Drops of Moonlight (AA/CC/ML, Mature) Chpt 13&14 10/21!!

Post by EclecticRoswellian »

Alright so here's the next two chpts, I will try and get these up as fast as possible, so please bare with me....

These next two chpts will give a slight inkling as to what kind of troubles Max and Liz will need to get through before they can be together, but no worries I promise they will have their happy ending.

thnxs again for all your comments they keep this humble writer working hard to finish this story...

Chapter 13

Every muscle in her body throbbed, cursing with angry protest as she tried to push herself back up to her feet. The blood caked on her snout was already beginning to chip and fall and she could barely stand without whimpering from the slash at her right hind quarter, but despite the pain she growled with furious persistence. ‘Come on Bitch’ she snarled baring her blood tipped fangs, eagerly awaiting the oncoming battle.

A flash of gray fur, the sound of flesh being torn savagely, the horrid cries of a beaten animal, and the victorious howl that followed, all these things happened within moments and in the end the midnight tinted wolf stood valiantly bathed in the pale moonlight.

She let her eyes roam over the spoils of battle, 4 wolves laid beaten with their tails securely placed between their legs, at her feet. With a low growl, she issued her final warning, ‘Come near me and mine and my mercy will not save your hides again, go before my generosity runs out!’ The bitches around her whimpered their understanding and took off into the forest’s shadowy reprieve. Only a handful stayed at the side of their Alpha, loyally awaiting her next move, a cinnamon sprinkled she wolf approached cautiously, and gently nudged her. She gave a low yap of concern, and nuzzled her neck.

The show of familiarity was easily welcomed and after letting her senses pick up the scattering females, she allowed herself to relax. With all the adrenaline gone from her system, her tired body sagged and she fell to the ground panting.

‘Liz are you sure your okay?’ Ava asked her eyes barely able to hide the obvious concern for her best friends well being.

‘I’m okay…just a little worn out, is all’ Liz replied with a toothy wolven grin.

Ava mentally snorted, ‘I bet, do you realize you just took on 4 dominant bitches at one time, I mean damn girl remind me never to get on your bad side…’ Even Liz couldn’t help but feel her pride swell, she figured that she’d have to defend her claim on Max, especially since he’d never really accepted her as his mate, but she never figured all four main candidates would attack all at once.

Flashback…

She could hear the packs restlessness throughout the mental pathways, and as she walked out of Cedar High’s concrete archways, she could feel the challenging stares of formidable bitches issuing their demands.

Before she could get a word out, an unlikely opponent stepped into her path, “So, I hear you’re the skank that’s been hanging all over Max Evans?” Liz stared wide eyed and speechless at the human’s audacity, “Excuse me who the hell are you, and how exactly is that any of your business?” she asked still reeling from the shock of her presence.

Tessa smiled smugly, eyeing up her competition with little to no interest, “I’m Tess I just transferred to this inbred-filled poor excuse for a high school, and about the only decent male in all of Cedar Falls is Max, so don’t get to comfy, cause he’ll definitely be mine.” Not even bothering to wait for a response, Tess flipped her hair back over her shoulder arrogantly and strode off.

She’d been so distracted with the little ungulates, weak attempt at intimidation that she barely had time to dodge the lengthening claws of none other than the head pack whore, Selena Cassadine, as she attempted to slap her face. Grabbing her hand mid slap, Liz held tight as a growl escaped her lips, “What the Fuck?!” Yet from her right another attacker lunged and this time with her preoccupation and shock Liz was unable to escape the flying fist that collided squarely with her face, sending both her and Selena tumbling to the ground. Liz tried to shake herself out of the stupor and stared up at a pair of familiar dark sienna eyes, “I knew you bitches were to cowardly to take me on one at a time can’t say I’m surprised, but this needs to be continued at a more appropriate location…” Liz stood up shaking the dirt of her clothes, easily spotting two more female rivals circling from her left, ‘Shit…Aves, I need you to gather whatever girls I still have loyal to me among the pack and meet me by the lake ASAP’ Liz silently issued her order to her beta and continued to address her competition, “…we will resume this in an hour by the lake, I will take all four of you bitches on, but remember this, after this fight, win or lose this will be over and done with understood?”

The 4 stand in semi circle formation around her, their eyes flashing with menace, and all four nod at once, and so the battle is on, only one will remain standing in the end, and she will ascend as alpha female to the young pack and as such get first dibs on any dominant male with in the pack. Liz just had to make sure she was the victor of this war, ‘one hour…’

End Flashback….

Liz was suddenly pulled from her thoughts by a familiar scent, her ears perked and she stood straighter taking in a deep breath. A low rumble escaped her throat and she turned an anxious eye towards the forest opening to her left. Moments later a large pale white wolf appeared, his amber eyes glowing gold with concern. ‘Liz?’ He called out cautiously and fought the urge to run to her side, he waited for her next move, his eyes never once leaving her form.

Once the shock had faded, Liz was careful to remain hidden by the shadows cast by the forest, she didn’t want to explain exactly what had transpired a few minutes earlier and was thankful for the black coverage of her fur, ‘Max…?’ she gently whispered. When he remained rooted in place she understood, he was allowing her to take the lead and was instantly grateful for his patience. She turned to her beta and silently relayed her orders, within seconds Ava was a blur of cinnamon fur racing through the foliage.

Though it was nearly unbearable to remain passive as Liz only inched her way forward, he fought to remain motionless. He could still smell the lingering remnants of blood on the wind, and though he’d been too late in his arrival to catch sight of the quarrel, the scent of battle weighed heavily in the air.

Her right leg was badly injured and each step was pure torture, yet she bit back the whimper that threatened to escape passed her lips, and continued forward. Already her wolven blood was allowing her to heal at a rapid pace and by this time tomorrow she’d be back in top form. Yet she was hesitant to allow her mate to see her weakness, and hid shamelessly behind her wolf.

‘Max what are you doing here?’ she asked her eyes bold and unmoving as they stared him down.

This time it was her turn to remain still as Max circled her, his eyes taking in every inch of her body, never once flinching even when he licked the wounds on her muzzle. She allowed this intimate contact, and eagerly nuzzled his neck in return.

When he was satisfied that she was still in one piece, his concern and fear for her safety were replaced by anger and confusion, ‘What the hell is going on Liz?!’ his growl was low and rumbled in the silence of the night.

Flinching only slightly at the fire in his tone, she refused to back down, he maybe the greater of the two in strength, but her instincts as Alpha Female were pushing for dominance. ‘I needed to retain my claims…’ she answered with a snarl of her own setting a slow burn to ignite behind her emerald, eyes.

Max let out a warning growl, his wolf pushing for her submission, ‘Claims to what?’ even though he asked the answer was obvious. He circled her again nipping at her leg, pushing her further into the light, ‘How long has this been going on?’

She could feel his power, it radiated off him like heat, singeing her fur with the force of his anger, ‘I did what I had to, it’s the way of the pack, you’d know that if you were raised wolf…’ she bit out, unwilling to submit, she needed his understanding, if not they would continue this act, going back and forth till either she was knocked off her position as Alpha or he was killed.

‘This is ridiculous, I decide who I’m with, not some hierarchy of power.’ Max snarled, disgusted by the whole twisted power struggle.

‘THIS IS WHO WE ARE!’ Liz snapped, her voice booming through their link, causing her fur to bristle by his comment and his complete lack of comprehension. ‘You are not human Max, we are bound by our animal nature and if you can’t see that we are both as good as dead.’ She stood her ground even as Max growled in response.

The two wolves faced off, both intent on seeing their point across, neither would back down, the blood that flowed in their veins would not allow them to. Somewhere in the back of his mind, Max knew things were getting out of hand, but he seemed impudent to stop his instinct to dominate.

In an effort to try and appease the situation, Liz pulled back, she wasn’t stupid enough to believe she could win this battle, and though it pained her to admit it, she knew Max really wasn’t to blame for his lack of knowledge. He was raised human, raised to despise his other nature, so she couldn’t blame him for his beliefs.

‘I can’t do this with you Max, I can’t fight the pack and fight you at the same time, I wont survie it.’ She whimpered as she stumbled away, exhaustion finally overtaking her, she had no more fight left.

Sensing her pain Max padded over to her, gently licking her nose, ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t want to upset you…’ Laying down at her side, he simply allowed the silence to envelope them, he knew they had things to talk about, but right now he was just content to lie with her.

For tonight, she would find her peace cuddled at his side, her breath and heartbeat easily finding it’s match in his, the two soon fell into a trancelike sleep. Liz allowing his spirit to weave through her, speeding her already exhilarated healing abilities, by morning she’d be as good as new. Well, at least her body would be as good as new, her emotions and mental state were a completely different subject.

Chapter 14

She tossed and turned, the sweat soaking through her cloths and causing her hair to stick to her skin. In her sleep she whimpered, pushing her sheets off her over heated body, another bout of cramps tore through her causing her to cry out in the darkness. Flinging up she gasped for breath, her eyes scanning the room, easily picking up the details around her. Though she couldn’t see them, she knew her eyes were glowing silver, she needed to escape, and at the moment her open window was her main choice for a getaway route. Pushing herself up on shaky legs she stumbled over to the window, and breathed in a lung full of night air. Her heartbeat finally steadying, she could feel the pressure in her temples lessen, and her muscles relaxed slightly.

The howl in the distance startled her, when she glanced out into the darkness; she could see the forest opening from her perch and longed to lose herself in its welcoming embrace. Stepping away from window, she began to pace, so far she’d awoken from the dreams every night for the past week, always at the same time 2:45 am, and always feeling like her blood was boiling in her veins. She hated not having someone to confide in, but this was not a problem she could go to her mother with, how could she understand, this was not a human aliment.

Picking up her sketchbook she allowed her mind to blank out and let her fingers relieve her tension. As fingers danced over the clean white sheet, leaving well planned trails of coal in their wake, this was becoming her nightly ritual. She’d already filled two sketch pads, and was quickly on her way to filling her third.

When she glanced down at her drawing, she wasn’t surprised to find a pair of familiar eyes staring back at her. The wolf she knew like the back of her hand, was never far from her thoughts lately, every drawing was of her.

‘I think I’m going nuts…’ she silently mused shaking her head miserably.

Glancing at the bedside clock she furrowed her brow, it was only 4 in the morning and she was restless. Hearing the soft click to her right, her ears picked up the quiet sounds of her mother leaving her room. ‘What the hell?’

Weightlessly she tipped toed to her door and peeked out, she sniffed the air and easily picked up a new familiar scent. Her curiosity was now definitely aroused, why, was her mother having late night visits with her uncle. Sneaking out she stealthily maneuvered her way to the stairs and knelt, expanding her senses she allowed her wolfen blood to pull forward and improve her hearing.

“Thank you for meeting me Vincent, I know it is a little unorthodox considering the time, but I don’t know how to help her?” Amy’s frazzled voice drifted up.

“I’m glad to help, I already told you to call me whatever the time, I was just surprised to hear
from you is all.” Vincent assured and carefully stepped further into the room.

From her spot at the top of the stairs Maria eased her way down a few steps careful not to alert the adults of her presence.

“I know this is a trying time for both of you, but perhaps Maria would feel more comfortable to talking to you, in her eyes I’m still just a stranger.”

Amy shook her head, “I love my daughter Vincent, but this is uncharted territory for me, and I wouldn’t even know where to begin.”

Vincent let his eyes roam over the redhead before him, she looked tired, the dark circles under her eyes gave her face a much older appearance and he longed to see her as she once was. “I will help as best I can, and right now I think maybe we should call down our little eves dropper….Maria you can come down, I’m sure it’s getting rather difficult to hear from all the way up there.”

The yelp that followed the string of curses, and the loud thud announced her arrival, “Um…what’s going on?” she asked warily still unsure as to what this little meeting was in regards too.

“Sweetie I know what’s going on with you, and I really think that Vincent can help you?” Amy nervously explained keeping her eyes away from her daughter’s gaze.

“Mom, I’m fine alright just a little restless but it’s no big deal...”

“Maria I know this is a very confusing time for you, but you need to know that you’re not alone, not anymore…” Vincent interrupted his heart went out to the young girl; he could easily pick up the final stages of the change hanging heavily over her scent. He watched her eyes flare briefly
and felt a knew sense of fear, there’d only been one recorded case of mestizo successful change and even that was still a mystery to the pack, what if her blood was not strong enough to make it through the change. “…please don’t pull away from us, not now.”

Unsure how to answer, Maria simply nodded, her pulse racing with insecurity, “I don’t know what’s happening, I can’t sleep, and I feel like my skin is suffocating me, I just want it to stop, please can’t you make it stop…” She whimpered her eyes misting with unshed tears.

“Oh baby…” Amy threw her arms around her daughter, she hated feeling so damn useless, but at this moment she had nothing to offer, nothing she could do or say to make her baby’s pain go away.

Though he’d gone through the change himself and watched numerous others in his life do the same, it never seemed to get any easier. They’d somehow managed to avoid the high mortality rates that other packs suffered; it seemed to be a credited to the smaller pregnancy numbers. While other pack females were still carrying litters of 4 or more pups, females in his pack were carrying two at most and that was still a rarity. Riverdog claimed the fewer offspring the stronger the pup was and the less chance of the spirit being spread to thin. But a half breed was still uncharted territory, “Maria I promise that the pain will soon be over, but you have to stop fighting the change or it will tear you apart.”

She knew he was right, that the more she tried to deny her instincts the worse the pain got, but how could she give in. She hated the fact that she was a beast, that unlike her mother she was wild and dangerous and not completely human. It made her feel alien, the instinct to run was suddenly roaring through her, and before she could deny it she bolted out of her mother’s arms and out the front door.

“MARIA?!” Amy cried out but it was already too late, she was gone. She turned defeated and exhausted only to find a sad smile on Vincent’s face.

“She’ll be fine Amy, Sean will keep an eye on her, she just needs to come to terms with her nature, and right now unfortunately there is nothing you can do to help her.”

Run…Run…Run…
The words echoed in her mind, forcing her legs to beat faster against the pavement. She wasn’t aware of what direction she was headed, only that she needed to get away, so when she watched the forest opening spreading out before her she slowed cautiously. All around her she could feel others, watching her, waiting to see what she did.

Run…Run…Run…

Her eyes burning with silver fire she glanced around, the call was the strongest it’d ever been, but still she found her fears weighing her down. With tentative steps she creped closer to the forest’s entrance, if she took the final steps her decision would be made, she’d leave behind her human life forever. Glancing over her shoulder she looked back at the life she was about to leave behind, and her heart ached. Yet even with her doubts still lingering she took the final steps forward and entered the shadowy arms of her new life.

The howls rang out filling the night with their melodic cries, another child of the wild was stepping back into the fold, and they were rejoicing her home coming.

Drops of Moonlight (AA/CC/ML, Mature) New Chpt 15 10/21!

Post by EclecticRoswellian »

Alright I know I just posted chapters 13 & 14, but I just finished chpt 15 and I really would like your opinions. So please let me know if you guys like were this is headed...

Chapter 15

Everything around her appeared normal, nothing stood out as overly excessive, but somehow nothing felt right. Almost as if her surroundings were pushing to be something they weren't, fighting to appear non threatening but in the end failing to accomplish that one simple goal.

Her eyes caught a glimpse of him as he walked passed her in the halls, and her heart beat raced. Licking her lips in appreciation she watched mesmerized by his sleek movements, flowing to gracefully to be human, but still her mind fought to maintain his normalcy. 'It's just in your head, your brother's twisted fantasies are starting to sink into your thoughts is all...' she silently argued with herself, hoping to find a logical explanation.

Cobalt eyes narrowed as she watched the tiny brunette strut over to his side, she was about to turn away disgusted when instead of fawning over her as per usual, he slammed his locker and stormed off.

'Interesting, seems to be some trouble in paradise...'

“Hey Tess what's got you so focused this early in the morning?”

Her thoughts were disrupted by the tall blond at her side, “Hey Pam, nothing much just watching the scenery?”

Pam arched an eyebrow and followed Tess' line of sight, and she wasn't surprised by what she found, “Look Tess your new here and I think its only fair that I warn you...” Pam gulped back the memories that still haunted her, glowing eyes watching her from the shadows, shaking her head she stared intently at her friend. “...stay away from them, or you'll just end up another flyer on the wall.”

“What's that supposed to mean?” Tess asked suspiciously, her eyes rolling when Pam simply shrugged and took off. This town was entirely too backwoods creepy for her to deal with right now, yet she still felt a chill race down her spine as she passed a group of elites, their eyes staring intently at her, almost as if she were their next meal. Refusing to let them frighten her, she straightened and walked on with her head held high, glaring back at them when a few boys whistled and cat called as she passed. For a brief second she could've sworn their eyes were glowing gold but when she blinked and looked again it was gone.

Her mind was racing, could her brother be right, is that why he'd insisted they move nearly 2000 miles across the country to a hole in the wall town she'd never even heard off. 'Tess snap out of it girl, there are no such things as werewolves...' she once again argued silently, cursing her brother and his total lack of sanity.

“Watch it Zoobait!”an annoyed voice snarled as she pushed passed her, causing her books to fall to the floor. “Shit!” she huffed and bent down to pick them up.

“Don't mind them, they're always bitchy this time of the day.”A warm voice sauntered around her, and she nearly choked when her head tilted up to find a pair of honey colored eyes staring back at her. “Your Tess right?”

“Oh...um, yeah and your Max?” she managed to Stoddard out, her pulse leaping when he offered her a half smile.
Max could easily pick up the shift in her scent, signaling her desire, and though he wasn't interested in her in that way, it was still flattering. With her books securely in hand, he stood and offered her a hand up, “Again I'm sorry for that, if you like I can walk you to class?”

Still in shock and afraid this was all just a seriously realistic fantasy, Tess just nodded her consent and allowed him to lead her forward.

Another smile formed on his lips at the starstruck expression in her eyes, but it was short lived. He could feel eyes burning into him from behind, and he didn't have to turn to know who they belonged too. 'Liz calm down, I'm just walking her to class, nothing more', he silently informed, his outward presence maintaining it's cool demeanor as he continued to chit chat with the small blond.

Tess was completely oblivious to the peril her life was walking straight into, her focus was solely on the young Adonis at her side. Caught up in the moment she didn't even realize when her hand found its way into his, but the jerk that followed and the stormy expression that passed over his face had her wishing she'd kept her hand still, “I'm sorry I didn't mean...”

The second her fingers wove themselves around his unsuspecting hand, Max knew he had very little time to remedy the situation, before the poor girl found herself toe toe with a very angry predator. Pulling away from her touch like it burned he barely had time to apologize before he raced off. He knew it was unfair to leave the girl so abruptly but by the anger he felt raging through the mental link, he also knew he was probably saving the small blonde's life.

In a mad dash he reached her side in an instance, he was prepared to find her upset, but nothing could have warned him of just how angry she really was. “Liz..?”

Her wolf was clouding her judgment, she could still smell the offensive girls scent lingering on her mate, and it was driving her mad. A low growl rumbled in her chest as she turned burning green eyes towards him.

Max sucked in a breath at the ragged heat radiating off her, “Liz calm down, this is not the place for this.” he warned in a hushed tone, hoping to appeal to her logic. Unfortunately, he'd missed the way her eyes flared when he brushed her shoulder, and the next moment found him pinned to a locker.

Liz sniffed his clothes in disgust, “You stink of human bitch...” she hissed her nails lengthening as they dug into his shoulder.

He'd tried to remain passive as she pounced, but his own wolf was fed up with her show of dominance, she was his mate, but she was not his master. In a move to swift for human eyes to follow he had her flipped and pressed firmly against the wall. Thrilling at the small whimper that escaped her lips, and the way her body thrashed against his to be released. “I said CALM DOWN!” he hissed by her ear. Her defiance and lust painting her scent in an intoxicating combination that had his eyes flaring.

Realizing her attempts to fight him off were futile, Liz calmed finally reigning in her wolf, when he still kept her caged by his body, she smirked and leaned back into him. “Are you going to hold me prisoner much longer, not that I mind but I think the faculty may have a problem with your methods.” she teased and couldn't help but feel the loss of his body when he finally stepped back.

Running a weary hand through his hair, Max sighed, “You can't keep doing that, I was just walking her to class.” He explained, not really seeing the harm in his actions.

Tilting her head to the side, Liz studied his appearance, at first she thought he was just testing her, but now she realized he really wasn't aware of his nature or hers. Shaking her head she met his eyes, “You have no idea why I'm angry do you?”

Max stared at her cautiously, “Um...because you were jealous...”

Throwing her hands up in defeat Liz cursed Philip Evans with every ounce of her being, “Jealous...you think I'm doing this out of some trivial school girl jealousy...” She turned back to him, her eyes flaring defiantly, “...don't worry you'll know exactly what I'm talking about soon.”

At a loss for words Max could only stare as Liz stormed off, 'What the hell does that mean?'

Through out the day Max could only catch glimpses of Liz as she sped passed him, her words still ringing in his ears. It wasn't until lunch that he finally grasped the meaning behind her thoughts.

“Hey Evans you plan on joining the land of the living any time soon, or are you just going to stare off into thin air all day?” Alex joked jabbing him in the ribs as he passed.

Fed up with Liz and the whole cryptic message, he decided to simply shrug it off, 'no use over analyzing it to death.' he thought and joined Alex and Isabel by the fountain. As he approached he saw Alex stiffen as he glared at something over his shoulder, when he turned he felt as if someone had punched him in the gut. His blood surged faster through his veins, the hair at the back of his neck stood on end, and his eyes burned with golden rage.

“Max...?” Alex called out cautiously, he'd felt the change as it rippled over his friend and glared back at his sister. 'What the hell was she trying to prove?'

Max watched as Liz draped herself over Caleb, flirtatiously smiling when he spoke, and giggling when he whispered something in her ear. He'd never felt so much intense anger before in his life, it was all consuming, swallowing his human moral in it's fiery depths. When she tilted her head and whispered in the rival male's ear, her eyes staring intently at him as she did it. Mocking him, daring him to act, it was too much, with a growl he tore across the quad, his prey locked within the of his gold sights.

“SHIT!” Alex cursed and dove after his friend, leaving a horrified Isabel behind.

In one movement Max tossed Liz back and grabbed Caleb by the scruff of his shirt, “Back the Fuck Off!” he snarled.

Caleb barely had time to react, one minute he was enjoying his conversation with Liz the next he was being flung across the quad, by none other than Max Evans. When he stared back from his spot on the ground he was surprised to find Liz, standing to the side a satisfied smile on her lips. Then it hit him, she was using him, goading Evan's on and using him as bait. 'I should have guessed...'

Max's world was bathed in red, his wolf foaming at the mouth begging to be released, it was only Alex's restraining arms around him that kept him at bay.

“Max you gotta calm down man, this ain't the place for this shit, we've already got a crowd forming.” Alex informed his eyes glancing around taking in the damage, when they landed on his sister he growled low in his throat. She was actually smiling, the twinkle of mischief still shinning in her eyes, 'You better fix this shit now Liz or so help me I'll let him kill Caleb and then we'll see how dad handles this situation.' he spat wordlessly through their private link. Satisfied only when the smile was wiped clear of her face, replaced with dread at what her actions could inadvertently have caused.

Liz swallowed down her fear, Alex was right, if Max so much as even got one lick in, he'd shift and give the small crowd that had formed around them a show they'd never forget. Stepping in his path she took his face in her hands, bringing his eyes down to meet hers, 'I'm sorry baby, just relax he meant no disrespect, but you have to calm down, please...baby just calm down' she gently soothed his anger.

Blinking a few times, his eyes finally reverted back to the warm honey color that belonged to his human side. He couldn't remember how he'd ended up in this position, all he knew was that Alex had him restrained, his arms trapped at his sides, and Liz was staring up at him, regret hazing her dark chocolate orbs. Then it flashed before his eyes, and he jerked out of her reach, “Alex you can let go, I won't attack.” he informed in an even tone his eyes staring back at her with hurt and disbelief. Once he felt Alex step back, he rolled his shoulders trying to release some stress, but his eyes once again sought her out. “So this is what you meant, you did all this to prove a point, well good work Liz point taken...” he spat.

“Max...I just wanted you to understand, to feel what I felt, I never meant for things to get so out of control...” She apologized, hating the way his eyes stared back at her with barely veiled disgust.

“I'm tired of your games Liz, I can't do this with you anymore, I don't even know who I am anymore, how can I, when everyone seems to think they have a right to constantly tell me how to act, what to feel, I can't...” before she could answer, he was gone.

Liz stood frozen in place, she'd pushed to hard to fast and now she might have pushed him away for good. All she could do was stare after him, and pray things weren't irrevocably damaged.

“I told you to back off, I told you to give him space Liz, but this stunt was cruel even by your standards.” Alex commented as he reached her side.

“Look I don't need a lecture, alright I made a mistake, but in the end my point came across, he responded the same any one of us would, why should I feel guilty for wanting him to follow his instincts?” she argued, sick of being viewed as the one in the wrong for the simple fact that she was following her natural instincts.

“Yeah our instincts, and even though Max has flipped he isn't like us, he's half human and that will forever be apart of who he is, he wasn't raised to follow his instincts, he was raised taught to deny that part of him, and it's not going to change over night...” Alex's eyes softened slightly, he could feel the battle raging within his sister, this would surely get worse before it got better, he just hoped it wouldn't end up destroying them both. “...either you learn to be patient with him, or you let this go, but this can't happen again, or you'll have more than Michael and his lackey's on your case. Any threat to the pack will go before the council and it could mean certain death for him...and you.”

Guilt washed through her, and suddenly she felt gravity of her situation baring down on her full force, unable to process it any further she did the only thing she could to alleviate the situation. She ran...

“Liz...Damn it!”Alex cursed as he watched her bolt, sighing he watched her disappear, around him he felt the questioning stares of the others, but there was nothing he could offer to answer there questions. He simply shrugged and ordered them to disburse. When he reached Isabel she was a frantic mess, and he really couldn't blame her.

“Alex, what the hell was that all about, and what is wrong with my brother?!” she demanded harshly.

Again he was left to clean up the mess, and truth be told he was damn sick of it, “Izzy please try and understand, I know this is hard but I promise you Max is fine, he's just a little ticked at my sister, and he has every right to be, especially with the stunt she just pulled.” Alex explained, wrapping an arm around her shoulder, easily guiding her away from the scene and the curious eyes of the pack.

Across the quad a pair of blue eyes looked on knowingly, and though she tried to deny the truth, hoping that perhaps this time her brother was wrong, if only for 'his' sake. She couldn't deny the truth that now lay blatant before her, 'I'm sorry Max...'

Drops of Moonlight (AU/CC/ML Mature) Chpt16 New!! 11/7

Post by EclecticRoswellian »

Hey all sorry it took me so long to post this chpt but I've been working on a different project with my aunt trying to see if we could get a graphic novel finished between the both of us, so my focus as been split three ways between this, school and that

But I promise to finish this story thank you all for your patience and understanding and as always on with the show....

Chapter 16

“What is this about Jeff?” Philip Evans asked gruffly as he slumped in the offered chair at his side. He’d been expecting an invitation from the pack’s alpha, though he thought it odd Jeff had taken so long to do so.

Jeff Parker regarded his old friend thoughtfully; it still pained him to think how wide the gap had grown between them. They’d been best friends since birth all the way through high school, until Diane… “Philip thank you for coming, I know this is the last place you want to be, but I think there are a few things we need to discuss.”

“Look Jeff if this is regarding my son and your daughter’s relationship, then it is better if you don’t even bother, you know my feelings haven’t changed.” Philip huffed out and stood to leave.

Shaking his head Jeff sighed, he knew this was going to be difficult, but he at least hoped that since Max’s flip Philip had softened his resolve a tad. “Your right this meeting is in part to discuss the joining of both our families, but there is actually more pertinent business we need to discuss…” Jeff swallowed a breath unsure how to proceed.

Taken back by the answer and the sudden shift in his presence Philip turned curiously, “Okay you have my attention, what’s going on?”

Nodding Jeff motioned for Philip to take a seat, “Riverdog has been keeping an eye on the recent activities regarding our cousin packs, and what he’s discovered has us both worried.” Jeff anxiously wrung his hands, in the distance a contented howl could be heard drifting on the wind, and suddenly the severity of the situation hit him full force.

The stormy expression settled over Jeff’s features, only served to increase Philips trepidation, “Jeff it can’t be that bad just spit it out already.”

This time the careful restraint Jeff had placed on his emotions snapped, and his eyes flared heatedly, “Mind your place Philip, we may be friends but regardless of whether you consider yourself pack or not anymore, you will respect me…” Jeff growls, but pushes past his anger to continue, “…So far 3 packs have been almost completely decimated, with only a few survivors left in each to make it out alive. We think they were hunted down and killed, and now the threat is looming close to home.”

A cold chill settled over Philip, he’d never imagined this scenario, “Are…are you sure about this Jeff?”

With a grim nod Jeff responded, “Unfortunately yes, Riverdog is reviewing the scrolls as we speak, trying to decipher an ancient prophecy of sorts, but my main concern right now is keeping the pack safe, and I can’t do that if I’m at odds with you.”

“Jeff I know that we’ve had our differences, but I would never do anything to jeopardize our safety.” Philip answered sincerely.

The knock at the door interrupted any further discussion, and when Viviane entered a grim silence seemed to wrap itself around the room. She wasn’t surprised to find Philip seated in front of her husband, yet she couldn’t help the slight jump in her pulse at his presence.

“It’s good to see you Philip, how are Max and Isabel?” she asked.

Finally meeting her gaze Philip nodded, “They are both fine…it’s good to see you too Vi.”

Before the trio could continue Riverdog appeared in the doorway, “Well isn’t this heartwarming, feels just like old times in here.” Riverdog teased lightly before striding into the room.

“Were you able to find any new information?” Jeff asked anxiously.

Riverdog nodded a strange glint in his eyes, had the group’s curiosity risen, “It seems that the safety of the pack lies in the hands of its former outcasts…”

“What?!”

“The prophecy foretells of a union, a union of old blood and new blood, a union that will finally unite the pack and lead us into a new beginning.” Riverdog explained casually.

“What the hell does that mean?!” Vivian erupted.

But instead of answering Riverdog simply shrugged, and walked out, leaving behind three very confused adults to try and decipher his answer. They’d soon learn the irony of the situation at hand, but for now he’d let them sweat; he still had to check on the pup.

***********

His head was pounding, he could still hear the pack through mental pathways, and they were crowding his thoughts making it almost impossible to think. ‘Shut up!’ he howled in pain. Then as if it had never been there the voices stopped, Max sighed rolling his shoulders to relieve some stress.

There was a soft tap at his window, and without glancing up he knew who it was, stepping over to it, he pushed aside curtains and lifted the latch, “What are you doing here Liz?” he asked tiredly.

In one fluid movement, she jumped through the open window and landed soundlessly in his room. Her eyes flaring slightly as she took in his scent, “I thought we should talk.” She answered while flitting around the room, unable to meet his gaze, she tried to still her racing pulse.

Max could smell her anxiety, it was laced through her scent along with her desire, his wolf was biting at the reigns begging to be released. No matter how angry he was with her actions, he couldn’t deny his instincts, “Liz I’ve said all I had to say, I told you I need time, but you kept pushing and today was just…”

“Max you don’t get it, it’s not that I’m not sympathetic to what’s going on with you and if I could, I would give you all he time in the world, but things are getting really dicey out there, and I don’t think I’ll be able to keep the peace much longer .” Liz interrupted, she met his eyes and tried to muster up as much courage as she could.

In that instance Max could sense her desperation, it was draped over her in layers, dulling the light that seemed to always shine behind her eyes. His anger dissolved instantly, “Come here…” he called to her, and tucked her safely into his arms.

Liz inhaled his scent, letting it consume her, she whimpered softly when she felt him lift her into his arms and lay her gently on his bed. Taking a spot at her side she burrowed deeper into his arms, finding the only peace she’d ever know locked safely in his presence.

It felt incredible to have her at his side, it felt natural, “Talk to me?” he asked while running his hand through her hair. His eyes burned gold, when she her lips lightly skimmed the skin over his pulse.

Talking was the furthest thing from her mind at the moment, especially when she heard the low growl rumble in Max’s chest, but regardless she pushed past her own desires and found her voice, “I’m scared Max, things are happening in the pack, there’s a lot of talk going round, people are getting worried that maybe my father’s rule has come to its end.” She sighed wearily pulling herself further into his embrace, “Nikolas is stirring up trouble, causing the council to have doubts and if he pushes hard enough, he could send the pack into another war…”

Max found himself at a loss for words, he wasn’t even aware that there was so much under laying conflict within the pack, yet it wasn’t really surprising, they were after all slaves to their instincts. “If this does happen what can we expect?” he asked warily, uncertain whether or not he was ready for the answer.

“If my father is called out and defeated then power will shift, and both me and Alex will be targeted. It’s like what we learned in history, once you kill the king you remove his bloodline from the running as well.” Liz answered mechanically.
A cold chill ran up Max’s spine at the detached tone in her voice, pulling her more securely into his arms, needing to feel her warmth wrap itself around him, “Liz that wont happen, your father is a strong leader and he has the support of the old guard plus Riverdog, even with the support of the young pack Nikolas doesn’t stand a chance.” Max tried to reassure her, but even as he spoke the words he knew they weren’t completely true.

“Just hold me Max, please just hold me…” she whispered brokenly.

Pressing a kiss to her temple, Max offered her what little solace he could in his arms, but his mind was tormented with thoughts of war and duty. He knew that Nikolas was gunning for the position of next Alpha, and he could easily call out Jeff, it was well within his right, especially since neither Liz nor Alex was mated yet. He could feel his world begin to shift around him, finally the weight of his change was bearing down on him, with merciless force.

He could feel Liz’s breathing even out and knew she was fast asleep, holding her securely in his arms he silently swore to protect her no matter the cost. She was the one true thing is his life, the only thing that made sense since his flip, and he’d tear apart heaven and hell to keep her safe.

Whimpering softly Liz buried her head in his chest, ‘I promise you Liz…’ Max vowed silently, as he kept a tentative watch while she slept.

Hey everyone sorry its taken me so long to update but life tends to get just a bit messy especially when you really don't need it too  Well here's the next part let me know if anyone is still reading....

Chapter 17

There was a strange current flowing through the forest, a change was fast approaching and before weeks end the pack would feel the first ripples of its effects. Like the sudden coming of the first winter’s frost, breaking through the tepid autumn chill. Already word was spreading through silent pathways, a new reign was destined to take the old king’s place. Now all that remained to be seen was which way the scales tipped, would the newly flipped Mestizo and his warrior queen lead the pack into a new era of change, or would the strong willed pack rebel pick up where the old Alpha left off. The pack was split down the middle, the appeal of new age freedom vs. the comfort of old world safety, soon a choice would have to be made, and the pack would find itself in the midst of an age old battle.

A lone steel-grey wolf raced between the shadows, his sleek muscles bunching and stretching as he ran. Cold yellow eyes burned with fierce conviction, illuminating the darkness that wrapped around him. His pace slowed as he reached the clearing, sniffing the air he could easily pick up her scent, and once he was certain she was waiting for him, he allowed his body to reform. Taut tanned flesh soon replaced his silver colored fur, and with a quick shake he stood proud, his naked body glistening in the jagged streaks of light that poured in through the trees.

“It’s a nice night out, wouldn’t you say?”

Gia turned swiftly at the sound of his voice, her eyes raked over his body, and a small smile graced her lips, “It took you long enough…”

“Well what can I say, I’ve always been a sucker for a dramatic entrance…” Nikolas smirked when he noticed the subtle shift in her scent, “…but baby girl you know I’d never disappoint you.” He teased lightly while walking up to her, his eyes flaring gold as he caught sight of her current state of undress.

A soft purr escaped passed her lips as she watched him approach, she hated how much his mere presence affected her, it was enough to tear apart her resolve. “What do you want Nickolas?” she asked with subtlety veiled disgust.

Nikolas flinched in mocking hurt, “Ouch baby girl, if looks could kill…” letting his fingers run through her hair he closed his eyes while breathing in her scent. Burning gold his eyes parted, a low growl rumbled in his chest as her essence mingled in the air around him. Pushing away he fought to pull back his emotions, “…I need you to start work on the Evan’s mutt.” He bite out flatly, his eyes refusing to meet hers.

She watched the silent battle that waged with in him, and sighed, despite her own misgivings, she was certain that in his own twisted ways, he loved her, “Niko are you sure about this, maybe there’s another way…”

“Gia if I wanted your opinion I would’ve asked for it, now just get it done.” Nikolas snarled pulling further away from her side.

Heaving a weary breath she nodded, “Very well…” she stood abruptly pushing out her arms in a feline stretch. She could feel his eyes roaming over her with heated intensity, and when she glanced at him from over her shoulder she wasn’t surprised to find his eyes glowing lustfully. Giving him a mischivious wink she sauntered a few steps away pausing to arch her back in another languidly graceful stretch, “…so is our business done, cause I got places to be.”

The blood pumped fiercely through his veins setting a slow rise in his temperature with every step she took he could feel his restraint pull further at the reigns. His body tensed when she bent forward giving him an ample view of all her assets, he tried to bite down on his sudden desire to pounce, but one more sultry movement had him lunging.

Gia knew she was pushing his buttons, she could feel the crackle of desire spark in the air around her and hissed triumphantly. The next moment found her pinned to the forest floor, Nikolas’ lips devoring her neck, “Mmmm, Niko…” she purred seductively. Letting her nails lengthen, she pierced the skin at his shoulder, shuddering when he howled in appreciation.

Hidden within the safety of the shadows that blanketed the forest’s edge, two lovers danced, their cries echoing through the silence of the night. Around them several wolves raised their eyes to the heavens, letting their voices sing out in praise. Their howls blending melodically in an ancient cacophony of sound that flowed through the night with graceful intensity, filling the once quiet and peaceful corners of Cedar Falls with it’s seductive promise. Those who recognized the call cast a knowing glance to the skies, silently howling in response, others who were blissfully unaware shivered dispite themselves. Wrapping the blankets tighter around their bodies, and searching with cautious eyes through the shadows for their long lost boogeyman.

Marissa Aiden felt a cold chill race up her spine, and bundled deeper into her coat, her pale green eyes franctically searching the night as she stepped off the bus, a strong breeze brushed past her setting her long auburn curls into a fitful tussel around her face. Even with the heavy over coat securely wrapped around her body, she still felt bitterly exposed, all around her she could hear the haunting cries of wolves roaming in some far off forest, and it filled her heart with a familiar trepidation. She waited impatiently for her brother to imerge.

Marissa and Christian Aiden were the orphaned children of Portland’s star reporter Bethany Anne Aiden. Bethany Anne was an up and coming sensation during the 80’s amoung Portland’s literary community. A strong willed single mother of two, who tore through the scene making a name for herself by covering the stories others were to afraid to touch. Unfortunately it was this same tenacity and fearlessness that soon led her down the path of a secret society of powerful killers. While chasing a lead she stumbled onto a terrifiying truth that cost Bethany, her life and left her two children alone and in grave danger. Luckily both Marissa and Christian were whisked away by a faceless benefactor and protected from harm. Now 18 Marissa set out in search of the truth, her brother was the only family she had left and as such she would not leave him behind. The pair had very little to go on, no name, no address only a few pages of notes that their mother had scribbled and the name of a town, Cedar Falls, Maine.

“So this is it…” Christian commented shifting a bored glance around, “…not much of a town.” He huffed in disgust.

Rolling her eyes Marissa, ignored her brother’s disdain and continued towards the terminal booth. She noticed as soon as she stepped of the bus, how unsually quiet and empty the town had appeared, especially when it was no later than 8 pm, but tried to shake off the trepidation, yet now walking through the desolate station she could feel the unease seep into her bones. The station appeared unexceptionally normal, rows of dingy yellow plastic seats lined the far wall, surrounding a single glass framed booth. The air smelled surprisingly sweet and inviting, like fresh baked pie and coffee, and when she followed the scent, her eyes landed on a small snack shop located at the far end of the building. She kept walking till she reached the booth, a scraggly looking middle aged man slouched low in his chair, his eyes glued to a worn out paper back novel.

“Can I help you?” he asked without even gracing her with a glance.

“Um yeah do you know where my brother and I, might be able to find some lodging for the night?” Marissa asked carefully noting the furrowed brow and stunned expression the station employee was now giving her. She looked down and then over her shoulder wondering if maybe there was some odd occurrence taking place behind her but finding nothing she turned back to the man behind the counter. “Um…is there something wrong?”

Shaking his head the station employee apologized quickly, “No, sorry it’s just we don’t get many visitors up by these parts, especially during the off season. There really is only one motel, it’s over by Scarab Drive here…” he quickly dug through his drawer and retrieved a fairly worn down brochure, “…this has the address and a few details on the place, you really can’t miss it just walk out and make a right, go a few blocks down and you’ll hit the light on Sanderson Way, after that it’s a left and then your first right, it’ll be a the end of that road, can’t miss it.”

“Hey Rissa you about done yet, I’m seriously lagging.” Christian annoyingly chimed in, pulling up next to her.

Elbowing her brother in the gut, she offered the attendant shaky smile and her thanks. Pushing her way passed her obnoxious sibling. “Thanks again sir…” she called out over her shoulder before walking out Christian following at her heels, grumbling and rubbing his side, “Damn Rissa no need to get violent, just asking a question.”

Picking up her pace she tried to ignore the gripping coming from behind her, and instead focused on what their next move should be. They had so little to go on, the name of this whole in the wall town and nothing more, yet she was sure this place held all the answers. The stillness that permeated the town bore into her while walking, her scuffling sneakers echoing in the silence, even the slight mumurs of her brother’s grumbles seemed to be swallowed into the silent void.

“Yo Rissa can you please stop ignoring me already…” Christian asked as he caught up to her side, his signature smirk firmly in place. Marissa couldn’t help but smile, regardless of how upset she was her brother could always worm his way out of trouble, a smile and a glance from those baby blues and everyone was eating out of his hand, her included. “Look Chris, I know your anxious to get answers, but right now the best thing we can do is just find a place to stay and blend in.”

Christian mumbled his consent and soon the pair fell into an amicable silence, each lost in the torment of their own thoughts. It wasn’t until they reached the neon red flashing sign of the Double RR motel that they acknowledged each other.

“So this the place…” Christian glanced around less then impressed by the small establishment, “…great.” He huffed sarcastically and followed his sister in.

The lobby was a typical combination of small time charm and hideous backwater chic, complete with stuffed grizzly guarding the door and needlessly uncomfortable unpolished wood furniture. Marissa took one look around before heading over to the front desk, a slender chubby faced middle aged woman sat engrossed in the latest copy of Vogue, and completely oblivious to their arrival.

“Um excuse me…” Marissa politely interrupted, which caused the clerk to glance up in surprise, “Oh my, I’m sorry, um how can I help you folks.”, the receptionist fumbled with her greetings, pushing her magazine aside and straightening herself, her curious brown eyes scanning over the new arrivals as she spoke.

“Yeah we’d actually like a room for the night, if any are available?” Marissa asked, glancing sharply at her brother when he snorted at her last comment. Luckily Christian held his tongue and the desk clerk was never the wiser.

Clicking a few keys she smiled up at the pair, “Sure, not a problem now would you like a double or single bed?’ she asked carefully.

“Double definitely, my brother tends to be a bed hog.” Marissa explained playfully, grinning when she heard Christian deftly deny.

After a few giggles, the clerk handed the siblings their key and explained which way to go to reach their room. Once the deposit was paid the pair bid their goodnights and headed to their room. All the while the friendly chubby faced desk clerk appeared nothing but completely helpful, she even offered to show them the way to the room, which the duo graciously turned down. As they waked away, her eyes followed their progress till they disappeared around the corner, a grim frown marred her lips and she quickly dialed a common number.

“Hey, yeah listen just wanted to give you a heads up that we have two new arrivals, and from the looks of it, they aren’t here for some cute little getaway, if you catch my drift….” She chewed on her bottom lip and listened for directions, “…fine I’ll keep an eye on them but you owe me one Sheriff.” With a huff she hung up the phone and settled in for the night. Her mind racing with all the different scenario’s that could follow the odd and unexpected new arrivals, and for once Luciana Corvine wished for the mundane boredom of her nightly shift. She’d have to call Vincent soon and let him know, to keep an eye out, strangers weren’t usually such a threat, but during the off season it was literally unheard off to have tourists, especially two youngster traveling alone. She could easily pick up the scent of fear subtlely laced through the girl’s scent, and from the dark circles on both their eyes, they must’ve traveled quiet a distance to reach their destination, yet they only carried a small duffle each. ‘Who ever they are, there not here for a nature walk that’s for sure.’ Luciana silently commented once again resuming her careless perusal of the copy of Vogue.

The siblings sluggishly trekked their way to the room, carefully observing their surroundings and taking note at the complete lack of patronage occupying the small lodge. When they reached their room they quietly scooted in shut the door behind them. The room was a decent size, not overly made up, but with just enough quiche charm to make it stand out. It maintained the same woodsy cabin feel, complete with log framed double beds, and a stuffed doe’s head mounted on the wall.

‘Wheww…’ Christian whistled as he dumped his duffel on the nearest bed, “Damn is this town for real?”

Marissa rolled her eyes, but couldn’t help but agree with her brother, the town of Cedar Falls was definitely caught in a time loop. “Well let’s get some rest, tomorrow your going to school.”

“Ahh come on Rissa, you know I can just transfer over my credits and graduate early there really is no need to keep up appearances.” Christian whined.

“Look Chris, we agreed that we would both settle back into a normal life, I’m going to get a job and your going to school…” before he could argue she pushed forward, “…it’s a good opportunity to gain some survalience, you ask around keep your eyes open with the kids at Fall’s high and I’ll work the town’s folk.”

Though he wasn’t completely sold on the idea, he had to agree with it’s obvious benefits, “Fine, whatever who knows maybe I can get better acquainted with some home grown beauties while I’m pumping them for info…” he wiggled his eyebrows and smirked.

Tossing a pillow at him, Marissa snickered, “Your disgusting.”

Chris caught the pillow before it hit and winked at his sister, plopping the pillow under his head he rolled over, “Good nite sis.”

Unable to hide her smile, Marissa shook her head, her brother was definitely a handful, “Nite Chris…” she grabbed her pj’s and toiletries before heading to the bathroom. ‘God help the female population of Cedar Falls…’
