Chapter 1

This was her sanctuary; the early morning hours before the sun peeked above the horizon, before the town roused from its slumber, it was only during these few precious moments that she was truly free from all the shackles that tied her down. In these moments she shed her human façade and let the beast roam unbridled, where not even the duties of the pack haunted her thoughts.

Run…Run…Run…

It was an instinct as old as time it self, that called to her and her kind, begging for its freedom. Urging her to let go and let the wolf roam free...

Run…Run…Run…

The wind whipped viciously through her chocolate locks, causing them to dance wildly behind her. Each step pounded hard and fast against the pavement, till all the world was a blur around her. Shapes and sounds blending effortlessly together into a single amorphous being.

Run…Run…Run…

The closer she reached her destination the wilder her pulse raced beating in time with the thumping chords of rhythm blaring in her ears. She inhaled soaking in the scents of the forest almost within her reach, basking in its rain splashed fragrance and moist earthy smells. Though it was only a small piece of untouched land it offered enough security to let the pack run safely, if only for a few effortless hours. She knew they all longed for the open countryside, a place where they could lose themselves for days in rich forest, but sadly there fate was sealed by their blood. Pushing away the conflicting emotions, she paused briefly at the forest’s entrance and sniffed the air. She easily picked up the normal scent of forest critters scurrying about, and also the faint traces of pack male (probably from last nights bon-fire), but other than that nothing out of the ordinary. Taking one final glance around Liz quickly stripped leaving behind a trail of clothing as she stepped into the forest’s welcoming embrace. Pushing forwards she let her limbs stretch out in front of her, allowing the change to ripple through her skin. It was only a fraction of a second before her body flipped; she lunged out a human girl and landed a forest creature.
Luscious obsidian fur replaced her golden skin, and her chocolate eyes burned a luminescent green. The scurrying of a wild marmot to her left caused her to jump slightly and glance back, the moonlight shimmering off her eyes, making them glow supernaturally, and then in a flash she was gone.

Too soon her moment ended, too soon she felt the suffocating leash pull tightly around her freedom, and once she stepped out of the darkness her naked limbs glistening in the early morning light, her world shifted back once again. Quietly she inched her way towards the back entrance of her home, attempting to sneak her way back into her room without alerting her family. A trick that was next to impossible considering her heritage, yet when she reached the stairs without a single sign of movement she involuntarily relaxed.

“Goodmornin sunshine…” a caustic voice filtered in from the kitchen, causing the hairs on the back of her neck to stand on end. ‘Shit’ she silently cursed and dashed up the stairs, slamming the door in her wake.

Finally secure in her room, Liz let her head thud lightly against the wood and cursed at herself once more for being caught of guard. Not that she was ashamed of her whereabouts or her nude state of being. Pack was rarely modest when it came to nudity since most were raised around nudity since before the flip, and after they were less affected by human sensibility urged further by the wolven blood that raced through their vein. No, instead what irked her was who the voice belonged to, that was the reason she fled in such a hurry, the hackles rising as she went. ‘well that was pointless…’, stepping away from her spot by the door she let her limbs relax and took a deep breath finally slowing down her racing pulse enough to get through her haze.

As she crossed the room she caught a glimpse of her reflection in the mirror, and she stopped to inspect her image. It still amazed her just how subtle yet drastic the changes to her appearance were since her flip. She was still tiny in comparison to the other pack females, however despite her size she was strong, far stronger than her appearance suggested. Her body was lean and firm, a well oiled machine built for speed and power. Golden olive skin now replaced her once milk and cream complexion, and her eyes and hair took on a few traits from her wolf form. Letting her fingers skim lightly over her bare flesh she thrilled in the sense of primal sexuality that she now exuded.

Where once she was shy and awkward, now she was confident and strong, a creature of hidden desire and raw power, born of the night and captivated by its beauty. Every male showed her interest, even the humans; a small smile graced her lips at the thought. ‘I wonder if they’d still be so interested when I’m ripping out their throats’ Of course that was something she’d never do, the pack was forbidden to hunt human’s and plus some of her best friends were of the human persuasion.

Stepping into the already running shower, she let the warm water soothe her weary bones, her day hadn’t even started and yet she was exhausted already. She knew what her role in the pack would one day be, and it seemed every new day only seemed to solidify the leash that bite into her neck. Her father was Alpha, and being that she was his eldest child it meant she would have to mate with the next inline for the position. A choice she dreaded with each passing day. There was only one man she could ever consider for the role, and as it was his status in the pack was even lower than a human’s, she knew it was a futile effort. ‘Damn pack law.’ Even so his image flashed before her eyes, and a shiver of lust race up her spine. ‘Max’ his name brushed past her lips in a silent prayer. He was an abomination by pack standards, both he and his twin sister were ostreisized because of what they were, Mestizo (Half-breed). It never mattered to her that he was a Mestizo, she saw what the others were always too blind to see, that he was special, same as Isabel. Both Evan’s children were strong and from their scent she could pick up something different about them, something rare. Yet the pack had very specific rules, rules that had governed them for centuries and that now with the changing times left them vulnerable and weak. It was either change with the time or fade into the past and she’d be damned if she let her people vanish like so many other mythical creatures, only to be remembered in stories and cliché horror movies.

A knock at her door roused her from her thoughts, and she popped her head out just in time to see her stepbrother creep in.

“What do you want Michael, can’t you see I’m kinda in the middle of something.” She growled low and menacingly.

“Easy there little sister no needs to get all jumpy…” he smirked as he devoured her naked silhouette contrasted against the light cream shower curtain. He licked his lips in wanton anticipation, “Want me to scrub your back for you.” He asked still leering at her form.

Another growl escaped her lips and she turned glowing green eyes towards him, “If you know what’s best for you, you’ll walk away now before I lose my patience dear brother.” Liz snarled once more baring her teeth in defiance. Michael growled once in response but ducked out all the same. Once she heard the door latch shut, she once again let herself relax, and finished getting ready for school.

Michael really was the least of her troubles, though they’d been raised together practically all their lives, and she considered him a brother of sorts, since her flip he’d been making his interest plainly obvious. He was in the running to be the next alpha, already he held that position among the younger pack and it was only a matter of time before he took his place. She couldn’t help but feel saddened at just how far apart they’d grown, since her flip.

Growing up they’d been as thick as thieves, her father had remarried as was pack law barely a year after her mother’s tragic death. Along with a new stepmother, both Liz and her twin Alex had also gained an older brother. Michael was only a year older, but he took his role as big brother to heart, especially when it came to Liz. That’s why it was so painful when his intentions drastically changed after her flip. But then again she never expected a lot of things that happened in her very short 16 years of life, none more so than the death of her mother when she was only a pup of 2. That of course was a path she did not want to revisit at this moment in time, so instead she grabbed her backpack and rather than deal with her family she hopped of her balcony, landing soundlessly on the lawn below. ‘Another typical day at Cedar Fall’s High, hooray…’ she grumbled under her breath as she walked to school.

PS...Alright guys let me know what you think should I continue?

alright here are the next two chapters, again thank you to everyone for the comments and please keep them coming, let me know what you guys think of this story..

Chapter 2

Cedar fall’s High was your typical middle class suburban high school, jam packed with your usual air-headed drone like cheerleaders, barbaric Neanderthal football jocks, and the ever popular charcoal painted misunderstood Goth wannabes. No out of the ordinary achievements to romanticize, or make national headlines with, nothing that generally seemed out of place on the outside to speak of. Yet here in this small rural community on the outskirts of Maine a rare and dangerous breed mortal ruled the halls of Cedar High. The Fall’s Social Elite was a committee of young up and coming members of society that would hold positions of power within the town, only by blood could one join and once in their was no leaving. To the students and faculty around them they appeared a group of exclusive teens, each excelled in both sports and academia, and both male and female were exquisitely beautiful. They ruled the school in much the same manner their families ruled the community and if this was to be a sneak peek to what awaited the lowly human class citizens then they were in for a rough ride.

The Elites were as cruel as they were gorgeous, never thinking twice when it came to crushing any poor soul that stood in their way. They never socialized outside their circle and that included dating. This of course never stopped the occasional romp in the woods, but it was simply that a, just sex and nothing more. They practically made terrorizing a sport and often time took great pleasure in tormenting their fellow classmates. Only a handful of Elite were the exception to that rule, and none more so than Cedar Fall’s reigning queen Elizabeth Parker and her twin Alexander.

Liz and Alex were everything the elite weren’t, they were loved by all and even so they were never arrogant or mean. The duo always seemed to go out of their way to befriend students outside their clique, which unfortunately never seemed to work out (Michael and Zan made sure of it). There were only two non members who were tolerated in passing, and both Isabel and Max Evans had a far more difficult time fitting in than simply being tolerated by the Elite.

As she walked down the halls, Liz’s knee high black suede boots clicked with every sway of her sauntering hips. She was dressed to kill in her matching black suede halter and her pleaded denim mini. Her long raven locks falling in waves around her shoulders, and her smoldering chocolate eyes were carefully hidden behind a new pair of designer shades. Liz sniffed the air, easily picking up the packs trail and turned just in time to avoid confrontation. She made her way over to her locker, and was about to take off again when she caught whiff of an intoxicating scent that made her pulse race.

“Hey Max…” she greeted without even turning around.

“How do you do that?” he asked clearly amazed at how she could always sense him, yet not really surprised by her answer.

“Are you kidding me…” she turned playfully towards him and skimmed her fingers lightly over his chest, “I could pick out your scent in a crowded room.” She smiled when she caught sight of the pink blush that painted his ears, “Your looking good today Evans.” She gave him a very thorough once over with her eyes, taking extra notice of the way his shirt hugged his very noticeable pecs clearly defined through the thin cotton layer of his shirt. He was wearing a hunter green long sleeved tee and dark denim slacks, with a pair of dark brown docs on his feet. Liz let out a small appraising growl, thrilling at the scent of his desire.

“Thanks…you too…” he managed to mumble out as his eyes racked over her scantly clad form.

“You know Evans, a look like that could make a girl blush.” She teased all the while moving closer into him, she licked her lips and delighted when she watched his eyes darken to molten amber, briefly flashing gold before flipping back. Her breathing was coming out in tiny puffs of air and she knew her eyes were also glowing gold from his proximity. Lucky for them both Isabel chose that moment to pop in and interrupt.

“Hey Max there you are, come on we’re going to be late.” Isabel nearly dragged him away only stopping to give Liz a death glare before she left.

“Hello to you too Isabel.” Liz called out as she watched their retreating forms, she could still smell the fear mixed with anger laced through Isabel’s scent and also the unmistakable power and hunger radiating of Max’s scent. ‘Very soon those two would flip and when they do I can just imagine the hell that will break loose in Cedar Falls’

“Girl you are going to get both you and those two in a heap of trouble if you keep sniffing around the Evans boy.” Ava’s bubbly voice rang in from behind her.

Liz couldn’t help but smile as she turned to face her best friend, “Yeah but that fine piece of ass is worth all the trouble I get, plus those two are bound to flip any day, and once they do the pack wont be able to step in.” Liz inhaled the last shred of Max’s scent and slammed her locker shut.

Ava simply rolled her eyes, and both girls burst into a fit of giggles as they walked down the hall. They passed a few pack members, who bared their necks in greeting to their future Alpha female and her Beta, but their good mood was abruptly put to an end when a brooding male stormed towards them.

“Slumming again Liz?” he snarled as he sniffed the air around them. He then turned accusing eyes on his sister, “And I can see my sister is of course not being any help in the matter. Are you going to be sniffing around the Half-breed’s too Ava, or perhaps it’s that meat boy that has called your attention, what’s his name Ben something or other.” This time he literally snapped a growl in the blonde’s direction.

Sensing her friend’s pain Liz quickly jumped into action, “My, my Kyle never knew you were the jealous type, especially when it came to a half breed and an ungulate.” Liz pushed down her shades flashing glowing green eyes at the irate male, “…are you so insecure of your place in the pack that you would go so far as to humiliate your own sister in front of the others.” She whispered accusingly. Ashamed by his actions Kyle mumbled a weak apology and stormed of.

“I’m sorry Aves, I never meant to…” Ava put a hand up to silence her friend and the two continued onward to class. She’d never meant to cause a wedge between Ava and her twin Kyle, and it was one of the few draw backs that her perusal of Max brought with it. The Four of them had been nearly inseparable since birth, earning them the nickname of four musketeers, but when both Kyle and Alex flipped a crack began to tear them apart. And when the following summer Ava and Liz flipped it only seemed to drive a deeper tear through the group. A tear that finally split when Kyle tried to pursue Liz, when she turned down his advances, his pride would not allow him to move past it, and once he learned that Liz was making goodly eyes at none other than the half bred Evans his hurt turned to anger and then spite, which seemed to trickle over to his sister. But Ava never faltered; she’d remained a true friend even at the cost of her relationship with her brother, a fact that did not go unnoticed by Liz.

The tension was way to thick and Ava knew Liz was probably beating herself up with guilt, “You know there are definitely some fine specimens among the pack and a few that can definitely rock my world, have you seen Zan lately, damn that boy is fine!” Liz stared shocked at Ava’s admittance. She’d guessed there was something going on between the two but never guessed it was more than a passing desire. “So Zan huhn…”

“Shut up…” Ava teased back and then both disappeared into their first class.

Chapter 3

“Max what were you thinking, I mean honestly do you want to get yourself killed, if the pack found you even…” Max gave an exasperated sigh as he faced his sister, he really didn’t want to start another round of Pack bad, humans good from Isabel. “Isabel we were just talking.”

“Talking…Max the girl is next inline to be Alpha female, which means she is going to be mated to the next Alpha, which is definitely not you…” Seeing the pain flash briefly in her brother’s eyes, Isabel bit back her next words, “I’m sorry Max, and I’m just worried about you.”

“I know Iz, but there really is nothing to worry about, there is nothing going on between me and Liz (no matter how much I may want there to be).” The two continued to head to class when a petite blonde crashed into them. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry…” Isabel gave a huff and pushed passed the girl, not really giving her a second glance, but Max stopped to help her pick up her books that were now scattered all around them. “No problem your new here right?”

When she glanced up her words choked in her throat, as she stared at the Adonis before her, “Um…yeah, hi I’m Tess, my folks just moved to town from Cali.” She knew her cheeks were flaming especially when the dark haired god smiled warmly at her. “Wow, that’s a long ways away, must be a hell of a culture shock.” Max commented, then sensing Isabel’s impatience he excused himself and ran to catch up with her, leaving a very dazed blonde in his wake. Tess however had just found her next conquest, and though she never caught his name she would definitely be seeing him around.

“Awwoohh!” a couple of teens howled as she passed by and Tess sneered in disgust, ‘Great just what I need some horny dogs after my tail.’ Not bothering to dignify them with an answer she simply strutted down the hall towards the main office.

As soon as Max reached his Biology class, he knew he was in for a rough time, immediately both Michael and Kyle growled, obviously smelling Liz’s scent on him, and then to make matters far worse Liz let out a low snarl as he passed. When he turned to face her, he could see her glowing green eyes and knew he’d have to deal with her jealousy at the new blonde’s scent on him as well. ‘Great, just what I need more pack issues.’

“Mr. Evans, how nice of you to join us, how about we leave all the teenage drama for after class and you find your seat.” Thomas Riverdog the bio professor announced, which quickly silenced any further grumblings.

The class dragged on like normal and the rest of the day was full of convenient incidents, where he ended either falling on his ass, or being pushed into a wall of lockers. So by the end of the day he was more than thankful to be still in one piece. At his locker he let his head thud against the metal door and let out a sigh.

“Rough day?” Alexander Parker smirked as he pulled up next to his friend. Max never even bothered to look up, he just shrugged his shoulders. “Yep, definitely a rough day, and I can take a wild guess as to what went down, first the leading teen Alpha Prick of my stepbrother ordered his lackeys to torment you for speaking to my beloved sister, then add to that said same sister flipping out over the new bitch’s scent that is still lingering on you right now…am I close?”

“Wow Alex, what are you now, psychic?” Max snarled and slammed his locker. “Hey easy there tiger, just making an educated guess” Alex raised his arms in surrender, but quickly sobered when he caught the scent of a few males heading their way. “Don’t look now but your days not over yet”, he signaled with his head to the right and Max caught a glimpse at the trio walking towards them. ‘Great’

“Evans, how about we take a little walk, Michael wants a word with you?” Zan announced as he came to a stop right in front of both Alex and Max. The two goons at his side were none other than Logan Creed and Sean DeLuc the packs leading henchmen, both growled low issuing their demands.

“Look Zan, tell Michael I have nothing to say to him, and that the Pack has no right to make any kind of demands on me or my family.” Max informed catching sight of Isabel walking towards them. The others soon caught her scent and the males perked up, Max couldn’t help but growl at their heated expressions. ‘Back off’, his eyes signaled and issued his challenge, which caused the others to smirk.

Alex could tell the situation was turning ugly and quickly intervened, “Zan you can tell my brother to back off, both Max and Isabel are under pack protection and unless you want to deal with the elders they are not to be touched…understand.” This time Alex’s blue eyes flashed gold as he dared the others to protest. Even though Michael was the acting Alpha for the younger pack, Alex being the Packs Alpha’s son was not to be disregarded, though he usually remained neutral during disagreements he could easily hold his own even against the younger packs beta and his goons.

Having no intention of starting something he couldn’t finish and considering who his opponent was Zan quickly amended his demands. “Not a problem, see you around Evans.” Zan let his eyes flash once then the trio strode off smacking their lips when they passed Isabel.

“Ugh! I can’t believe this is what we have to look forward too” Isabel grunted in disgust, she eyed Alex cautiously, and only smiled her hello when she felt him relax. “Don’t sweat it Izzie they’re just big puppy dogs once you get to know them.” Alex teased which earned him a soft giggle and another brilliant smile. Max rolled his eyes and walked on ahead, “I’ll catch you two later I have to get to work, Alex thanks again and please make sure Izzie gets home safely.”

“Not a problem Max and hey don’t let them get to you, it’s just male ego bullshit, oh and Max heads up…”Alex called out which caused Max to turn inquisitly not sure what he meant, but when he glanced back both Alex and his sister were gone. He was about to shrug it off when he felt a pair of eyes burning a hole into the back of his head. ‘Oh crap…’

“Hey Liz…” he smiled and couldn’t help but let out a soft groan as he watched her saunter over to him.

Liz sniffed his clothes and snarled another bitch’s scent was still all over him, “Max…” she smiled caustically circling him like a hunter would its prey. “So, been making new friends?” she questioned her eyes flashing dangerously.

“Not that it’s any of your business, but I was just helping out a new girl, Liz you need to get over this, as much as I would love for this…” he motioned in between them, “…to be more than what it is, you know it can’t be, your pack and am just a half-breed who hasn’t flipped yet and probably never will” Max explained desperately trying to get her to see reason.

She would not be pacified, no matter what the others thought he was her chosen mate, and as soon as he flipped they’d be formally mated, and no human bitch was going to put her filthy hands on what belonged to her. “You will flip, even now I can smell the change in your scent…” she eagerly leaned in and let his smell surround her, her eyes flashing with approval, “…and when you do Max you’ll be…MINE!” Before he could respond she had pounced pushing him against a wall of lockers, her lips devouring his own. Her body was on fire, and she could feel his body temperature rise boiling over to meet her own. Before long Max took control of the kiss flipping them around so that Liz was now pinned firmly against the wall. He let out a growl, when he heard her soft mewling moans, and when he felt her nails claw into his bicep he snarled in response. They had to stop before the others caught a whiff of their scent, and when he pushed out of her embrace forcefully he knew his eyes were glowing gold. Panic began to rise up from his gut and Max darted out of the hall, mumbling his apologies as he ran.

Liz looked around slightly dazed, she was still panting lightly and when she licked her lips she could taste the blood that trickled from the tiny wound that Max left with his teeth. ‘Run now Max, but no matter how fast you run, I will always be able to catch you.’ Running a hand through her tussled locks she regained her composure and headed for the quad where Ava would surely be waiting. ‘Oh she’s going to love this one.’

Just as she imagined Ava was waiting patiently for her at one of the benches over by the fountain, she seemed to be enthralled in whatever Zan was babbling on about and completely missed her friend’s entrance. “Sup Liz” Zan greeted and continued on with his story, Liz elbowed Ava causing the girl to yelp and turn to face her. “Oh hey Liz, Zan was just telling me about last night’s bon fire.” Liz rolled her eyes, ‘Yeah I bet’. Ava sheepishly smiled, ‘Be nice’ she silently pleaded and Liz turned a fake smile towards her brother’s beta. “Zan, where’s your usual crowd of lackeys today?” she asked caustically. “Oh they’re around somewhere, probably making sport of scaring the meat-boys.” Zan explained casually his eyes never leaving Ava’s sight, he gave her a wink and turned to dash off, but not before addressing Liz before he left, “Hey your brother’s looking for you?” with that said he was off.

“So, are we done ogling Zan, or do you need a few moments to roll back your tongue, it seems to be hanging out of your mouth.” Liz teased and soon both girls were giggling. Ava turned and sniffed her friend, “So how’d things go with Maxie boy, did you find out who the new bitch was?” The dreamy look that was on Liz’s face quickly vanished when Ava mentioned the new girl, “No, but I have every intention to make sure that ungulate learns her place, but enough on that you need to hear what happened…” Liz then went on to describe the kiss and Max’s near flip, both girls were so deep in discussion that neither noticed a pair of glowing yellow eyes watching them intently.

Chapter 4

“Dad I’m home!” Liz called out as she ran upstairs to her bedroom; she was almost at her door when she heard her stepmother’s voice, “Elizabeth can you please come in here for a moment?” Vivian called out. ‘Damn’ she cursed and stomped back down making her way grudgingly to her father’s office. Inside she found both her father and stepmother waiting for her, “Hey, what’s up?”

“Liz we need to discuss your upcoming birthday, your about to turn 17 and that means you need to start thinking about picking a mate.” Jeffrey Parker explained, he hated to force his daughter into mating but with the pack being in such turmoil, especially with recent rebellions among the younger pack, he needed to secure his children’s future.

“Dad, I told you I will not be pressured into this decision, now if this all you wanted to discuss I’m outta here.” Liz turned to storm off, “Elizabeth Marie Parker, you will keep your butt glued to that chair until I dismiss you, do you understand?” Liz gulped when she watched her father’s eyes flash yellow, and scurried back to her seat, her eyes glued to the floor.

Vivian placed a soothing hand on her husband’s arm and tried to ease the situation, “Liz your father and I are just worried about you, we’ve been hearing some disturbing rumors about you and the Evans boy, and we want to make sure you understand how important your choice in mate is to the future of the pack.”

Liz let out a disgusted huff and turned to face her stepmother, “I am well aware of my place in the pack, and who I talk to or hang out with is none of yours or the packs business. I will take my place in the pack and sign away the rest of my life, but not until after my birthday, until then back off!” Liz growled her eyes flashing green, as she stormed out of the office. Jeff was about to go after her, when Vivian placed a restraining hand around his arm, she shook her head no, and the pair sat back listening to her stomping footsteps and slamming bedroom door.

“Well that went well” Jeff grumbled looking pleadingly to his wife. “She’s just young and rebellious; you know that Jeff, you also know she’ll do right by the pack that doesn’t worry me. What worries me is…” Jeff eyed his wife curiously and easily picked up on her thoughts, “You’re worried about her interest in the Evans boy.” Vivian couldn’t hide her concern, not that she had anything against the Evans’, Philip was once a prominent member in the pack on his way to becoming the next Beta, maybe even Alpha, but he threw it all away for the love of a human. And now his two pups were causing problems for her and her son, if Liz picked that half-breed to be her mate, Michael would lose his chance at being the next Alpha, and everything she’d worked so hard to achieve would be for nothing. “Jeff, I have nothing against Phillip or his pups, but we both know the pack won’t accept a Mestizo as the next Alpha.”

Jeff ran a weary hand over his face, “I know I’ll talk to Liz again, just give her a little while to cool off” he explained and pulled his wife into a reassuring embrace, lightly nipping at her neck. ‘come for a run with me’ he silently asked and relaxed when he felt her agree. The pair walked hand in hand towards the balcony, quickly shedding their clothes they leapt as humans and landed as a pair of light grey wolves, dashing towards the forest. The male wolf let out a howl as he reached the entrance followed closely by his mate.

All three Parker children perked up at the sound of their father’s howl, and each let out a howl in response. Other pack members also picked up on their leaders howl, and many bared their necks in respect, while others sent a silent howl through the packs mental pathway.

Crossing into Cedar Fall’s another family had also heard the call, but it sent a different kind of shiver to race through them. They were each hoping for a new beginning, a chance to build a life, and hopefully find their place among the new pack, but they weren’t naïve enough to think it would be easy. The dark haired male glanced back through the rearview mirror at his pups, he could see the trepidation burn in their eyes and tried to smile reassuringly at them. He felt his mate place a loving hand on his knee and turned to smile at her. They were on their way to see this packs Alpha, and plead their case, each praying that they wouldn’t be turned away. Lone wolves never made it very far and having two teens and a mate to take care off, only added to the strain. They needed this packs protection, especially since their own pack was no more. Following his senses he easily picked up the scent trail that would lead him to the Alpha’s domain, and as they pulled up to the large two story home he straightened clenching the steering wheel anxiously.

“It’s going to be okay, you know that right?” Cassandra Wyles tried to reassure her husband, the tension in the care was tangible and she knew they would need to relax before they stepped into this meeting. Fear was definitely not the way to start this meeting, especially if they wanted to prove they were worthy of a spot on this pack.

Keith let out a breath and smiled back at her, physically relaxing, as the car came to a stop, he turned to the back facing his kids, “You two stay put, me and your mother will be back soon.” He ordered and stepped out of the car with his wife.

The two teens watched as their parents disappeared into the house, and let out a shared breath. Before she could stop him, the boy climbed out of the back seat and walked around the car to stand by the trunk. Letting out a sigh, the girl soon follow suite, “What are you doing Caleb, dad said to stay put?” Kit grumbled as she reached her brothers side.

Rolling his eyes Caleb only shrugged in response, his attention was drawn to the lighted second story balcony. He was just about to turn away when he caught sight of movement, though it was dark he could clearly make out her features and his breath literally caught in his throat. She was gorgeous, sleek and powerful and everything he could ever want in a mate. His pulse raced as he watched her dive over the railing and before she hit the floor a midnight black wolf took her place. She gave only one glance back, before she dashed towards the woods.

“Wow…” he whispered as he tried to follow her movements, but the slap on his arm interrupted his reverie. “What?!” he let out a harsh whisper, annoyed at his sister’s interruption. Kit was fed up, she’d been trying to get his attention for a couple of minutes when she saw the black wolf racing towards the forest. ‘figures a bitch would catch his attention’

“I’m sorry am I interrupting your drooling, I just thought you’d like to know our parents are headed this way.” She pointed towards the front entrance where both her parents plus a middle aged gentleman, she could only assume was the Alpha, and a very pretty blonde about her mother’s age were walking up to them. “Shit!” she heard her brother curse and smiled, ‘serves him right’ she thought. ‘you do realize your standing outside with me’, he silently commented which in turn caused her to curse and him to smile triumphantly.

“These to scamps are our kids, who I could’ve sworn I told to wait in the car.” Keith commented lightly, though his eyes flashed for a moment, “My son Caleb, and my daughter Kitt…” he pointed at each, “…and this is Jefferey Parker and his mate Vivian.” Keith continued with the introduction, and was relieved when both his children bent their heads and barred their necks in respect.

Jeff eyed the two pups carefully, sniffing each before turning to face the new male, “Welcome to Cedar Fall’s, I can tell your son has recently flipped but your daughter still remains unchanged.” The teen male bristled at the comment, but one growl from his father and he quickly settled down, causing Jeff to smile, this pup was definitely someone to reckon with.

“Yes, Caleb is a year older than his sister and went through the flip last summer, Kitt has shown signs and we believe she will flip by the end of this month.” Keith answered but continued to stare his son down, daring him to comment, wisely the boy held his tongue.

“Well, it’s getting late, so I’ll let you check into the motel, but be sure to stop by tomorrow afternoon and we’ll get you all settled in, the kids can start school tomorrow I’ve already sent word to our towns keeper and he’ll be sure to get them straightened out.” Vivian explained offering her hand as a welcome, and soon everyone said their goodbyes. Jeff and Vivian watched as the car pulled away, “Are you sure this is a good idea, you know how the pack feels about strangers and now you basically invite them in to stay, with open arms.” Vivian commented she was less than thrilled at his decision, but backed him up dutifully none the less.

“They’re good people Vi, and I know they’ve been through a hell of a lot of troubles since their pack was nearly wiped out clean by the humans, I couldn’t just send them packing…” Jeff looked down into his wife’s eyes, hoping to soften her distrust, “…we’ll keep an eye on them and if the pack can’t accept them then at the next full moon meeting we can discuss their departure, but for now let’s give them a chance, alright?” He watched as the gears in her mind turned, and when she smiled up at him, he relaxed. In the distance a howl sounded from deep in the woods, “Jeff you’ve got to talk to that girl, before she causes anymore friction within the pack.”

“I know, I will, I promise to sit her down tomorrow and lay down the law.” He asserted and led his mate into the house, stopping only briefly at the threshold to glance back, his eyes glowing gold, ‘that girl is going to be the death of me’

Alright all you know the drill, here's the new Chapter enjoy and keep the comments coming, oh and guys please keep in mind that Liz and Michael are not siblings by blood, thnxs

Chapter 5

‘Another glorious day…’ Liz huffed as she stepped onto the quad of Falls high, there was a strange energy flowing through the halls at school today and Liz could feel her pulse begin to race. ‘What the hell is going on?’ Anxiety was shooting rapidly through her system, drowning out her normal senses and spiking her body with adrenaline. Her eyes glanced around seemingly detached from the mundane scene before her, trying to pinpoint the cause of her sudden sensory overload, but she couldn’t pick up anything out of the ordinary. ‘I need to find Ava’ she silently called out through the packs mental pathways and easily picked up on her best friend’s location.

‘Girl what’s wrong?’ Ava questioned concerned by the panic laced through her friend’s scent. She stood bewildered watching as Liz raced over to her side, her eyes searching wildly as she walked. Something was definitely freaking her out, and whatever the cause Ava knew it would be bad news for all of them.

Once Liz reached her destination, she realized that the strange sensations she was feeling were suddenly gone. Whatever it was that had spooked her was no longer an issue, and that left her feeling far more concerned than she expected. “Hey Aves did you feel strange a few seconds ago, like you were gearing up for a fight or a flip?” Ava watched her friend closely before answering no, “What’s going on Liz, your starting to freak me out” Taking one final glance around Liz shook herself off and smiled back at her friend, “Nothing I think I just need a vacation” Ava snorted a laugh, “You and me both sister”

As fate would have it, at that precise moment 3 new faces were walking into Falls High, and these latest additions to the pack would soon stir up a whirlwind of trouble. Liz never realized that what she felt was her instincts warning her of what was soon to descend on them all. For by the end of this particular day, mates would be claimed, allies would be forged and enemies would be made, the young pack was in for a new assessment of their hierarchy.

He yawned his lackluster eyes taking in the troublesome bitch at his side, though she was exceptional in the sack, just the sound of her incisive giggling grated on his last nerve. She seemed to be rambling on about some trivial topic after another and he was growing tired of her presence. Letting his head rest against a few lockers, he tried to block out her screeching voice, but nothing seemed to be working.

“So how about it Michael?” He looked down at her, disgust veiling his hazel eyes, trying hard not to snap her pitiful neck he pushed her as far away as possible and snarled when she tried to get close again. “Selena back off, your trying my last bit of patience.” He growled once more, restating his position.

Zan couldn’t hold back a snort as he watched the brunette slink away with her tail between her legs, he almost felt bad for her, but then again these young bitches were simply to damn gullible. “You know one of these days, your little conquest are gonna align themselves together and skin you alive.”

“Yeah wouldn’t that just be the icing on the cake” Michael smirked, his eyes instantly drawn to the dark haired beauty strutting passed him, he threw Zan a wink before heading her way.

‘Damn it’ Liz cursed when she sensed her stepbrother approach, “Michael I am not in the mood” she growled trying to speed up her pace, only to be blocked by 3 teen males closing in around her and Ava. Ava snarled at the new threat, but held her spot next to her Alpha, Liz knew they really had no chance going up against 3 males and their Alpha and Beta, but luckily they were still in school and Michael would not risk a confrontation in front of the humans. She sighed and turned to face him, “What do you want Michael, I don’t want to be late to class?”

Michael couldn’t help but lick his lips as he let his eyes roam over her scantly clad body, “Damn Liz you are looking absolutely delicious this morning,” his eyes glowed amber when he sniffed her scent. “You still reek of that half breed mongrel.” He snarled in disgust grabbing onto her arm with painful force he pulled her close to his side. Liz yelped and growled low in her belly, “Let go of me Michael, before you embarrass yourself in front of your lackeys.” She hissed while pulling her arm free, her eyes were glowing green, with an intensity that matched his own.

The others watched the power struggle, glancing nervously around, praying that the humans didn’t catch on to what was really taking place. The young packs Alpha was making a play for his mate, and wasn’t about to take no for answer.

Continuing to press her into a corner, Michael took an opportunity glance at her companion, Ava was on guard like any good Beta would be, keeping her body strategically placed in between her Alpha and the threatening male. Her loyalties were easily assessed and Michael knew he had no right to demand anything further from the pair, but his ego was bruised. To think that the Alpha’s current eldest child would pick a mongrel, rather than him was simply ludicrous. Glancing at Zan he silently relayed his intentions and in one fluid movement the two pounced.

To any normal onlooker it simply appeared to be a normal lovers spat, Zan quickly latched on to Ava’s arm pulling her out of the way as Michael pushed forward trapping Liz between him and a row of lockers. Yet before he could get a single snide comment out a hard unyielding body bowled into him, causing the 6ft male to stumble and fall on his butt. Liz looked on completely shocked by the turn of events. A new male none of them had ever seen was now standing between Michael and his prize and from the low growl he emitted he had no intention of backing down.

“What the Fuck!” Michael barked sizing up the new opponent. He was about to lung when Riverdog stepped in, “Pup I would think about continuing this at a later time and a more convenient location” the old Indian warned. The rest of the pack quickly disbursed but not before issuing their threats to the newcomer and not before Michael whispered his threat to finish this later on tonight.

Still unable to really comprehend what had just transpired, Liz stood mouth open and utterly speechless. Her blonde savior was their standing in front of her a devilish grin painted over his lips as he took in her uncharacteristic stunned state.

“You know keep gaping at me with your mouth open and you just might catch a fly…” he teased, giving her a full blown smile when she quickly shut her mouth and blushed. From behind her he watched as her blonde friend sized him up, before smirking and walking away. So he’d obviously met up to her standards and offered her a smile in gratitude. “My name’s Caleb I just moved here with my folks and younger sister.” He offered her his hand in introduction and waited patiently as she eyed him, still wary she only nodded instead of accepting it.

Liz sniffed this newcomers scent, he was definitely a skinwalker but not from her pack, and she still couldn’t understand why he’d jumped to her rescue. She could tell from his scent that he was rather new to his flip only a few months since the change, and still he’d challenged Michael and the rest of his goons without so much as a second thought. ‘Either this guy is incredibly brave or a complete idiot’ she wasn’t sure which one yet. “Um thanks for stepping in back there, but I don’t think you realize what you just did.” She tried to explain but he quickly silenced her with smile.

“Hey it’s no big, we had a bunch of muscle bound testosterone males in my pack too, and usually they are all bark and no bite, plus whatever retaliation I get it’ll be worth it if it earns me just one of your smiles.” Caleb answered still grinning like a fool.

‘Is this guy for real’]/i], she couldn’t deny he was gorgeous with his sunkissed tan and dark blonde hair, which lay in messy layers on his head, giving him that just got out of bed sexy style. He was as tall as Michael but leaner in build, he almost reminded her of an inverted version of Max, complete with crystal clear blue eyes and a lay back surfer grin. “My name’s Liz and thanks again Caleb.” What she did next completely surprised her, pushing up on her tippie toes she placed a soft kiss on this new male’s cheek before dashing off.

Caleb stood in the middle of the crowded hall completely amazed, his hand gently touching the spot where her lips had graced his skin with such an intimate gesture. He would’ve easily remained content in his dreamy daze if it wasn’t for an intense feeling of hatred barreling into him. He glanced around and found a pair of amber eyes staring at him, switching back and forth from human amber to wolf gold, and burning a hole straight into his pleasant haze. ‘So he had another contender for her affections, and this one seemed to genuinely love her,’ Caleb tilted his head at the dark haired stranger and watched as his eyes intensified for a split second before returning to their normal honey color and then he was gone. ‘This is definitely going to be an interesting place to live’ he mused before heading towards his new class.

By the time she reached her class, there was only a few seconds before the bell sounded, so Liz quickly made her way to her seat giving Ava a knowing glance on her way. This was one of the few classes she shared with Max and when she turned to offer him smile in greeting, she nearly fell off her seat from the force of his emotions. “Max…” she managed to whisper and trembled with desire as his eyes flashed and he emitted a low growl. To a human female such intense anger would certainly frighten, but to Liz it was a declaration of his interest to mate. She sat completely still as Max sniffed her scent, his eyes burning with rage at the new males essence all over her. Another delicious shiver raced up her spine as he leaned in close to her ear, “Mine” he gave a low growl, causing Liz to nod her head in agreement, she would’ve turned to meet him head on, but the bell rang signifying the start of class and the end of their current discussion. She felt as Max sat back in his chair, but was powerless to slow her racing pulse or the heat that ran rampant through her body from his presence. This was her true mate, finally staking his claim, he was right on the edge of his flip, and she could easily pick up the differences in his scent and licked her lips in anticipation. Anxiously she waited for class to be over she needed to talk to him, but once the bell rang he was out like a rocket zooming past students and away from her sight before she could stop him.

“Oh girl I do not envy you.” Ava crept up beside her, shaking her head in pity. She’d sensed Max’s turbulent emotions when she walked in, and was pleasantly surprised when his wolf pushed free to claim his mate. ‘That boy is in for a hell of time claiming Liz for a mate’ Ava almost pitied him, yet she couldn’t help but envy the pair as well. They had the kind of bond that was a rarity among her people, she knew wolves mated for life, but very few were able to achieve a bond without mating. She glanced again at her best friend, and watched as a flush painted her cheeks, “You sure you know what your doing?”

“Aves it is out of my hands, my body won’t deny his claim, he’s my true mate.” Liz explained evenly her eyes still fixed on the door Max had disappeared through. Sighing she walked out Ava close behind, she’d have to wait till after school to talk to him. At least the day was almost over she tried to reason, but it still did nothing to calm her racing pulse.

YOur Comments have really jazzed me so here is the new chapter,

Chapter 6

Max tore his way through the halls, easily avoiding the flocks of students heading for their next class. His body was a throbbing vessel of pain where every muscle cramped at once sending a piercing pain shooting through his system. Trying to coach his breathing, he focused on every intake of air and every breath that passed by his lips, pushing away the fear that was clawing at him.

Breath in…Breath out…Breath in…Breath out…

‘Arghhh’ he wordlessly cried as another cramp shot up his abdomen. ‘No, no, no, this can’t be happening now’ he desperately tried to keep the wolf from pushing through, but the more he fought the greater the pain grew. Sweat was already beginning to saturate his clothing and he could tell the other students were eyeing him suspiciously, the only chance he had was to make it to Riverdog’s class. ‘Almost there…’ he winced as another round of spasms nearly knocked him over, but by some miracle her reached his destination and collapsed inside the class.

“Max!” he heard Liz’s voice cry out before his world went black.

The pack stared on in shock as the town half breed lay in a convulsing heap at the head of the class. A few of there fellow classmates were already by his prone body, it was no surprise who they were, Liz and her brother Alex were trying to rouse the fallen teen, while Ava ran out to fetch his sister. They were all transfixed at the sight, each remembering their own flip and the pain that still haunted their memories.

“Class is dismissed for today…you over there, come help!” Riverdog announced and pointed at Caleb for assistance.

Despite a moment of hesitation Caleb jumped in and lent a hand, helping Alex carry Max’s body out to Riverdog’s truck. He noticed the panic and pain etched on Liz’s face as she remained constantly at his side, but tried to disregard his own budding jealousy focusing instead on the task at hand.

“Oh my god Max!” Isabel’s voice came roaring from the side where she was running frantically with Ava towards the truck. When she reached them, she felt horrified by the state her brother was in. She tried to bite back the tears that threatened to fall, and found her salvation in the brunette at her brother’s side. “THIS IS YOUR FAULT!” she viciously accused, her words stinging with spiteful venom and making Liz flinching from their force.

Sensing her friends sudden guilt Ava jumped in, “Back off Isabel, I know your freaking out but this is not Liz’s fault” Isabel turned fiery eyes towards the blonde and snarled, “This is none of your business, so LEAVE!” she was about to lunge at the petite blonde when she heard her brother cry out in pain.

“Isabel…STOP!” Max’s hoarse voice pushed passed his pain and sought out his sister. He could feel her hatred as she lashed out in an attempt to quell her own fears.

“We don’t have time for these trivial arguments, if you want to help your brother reign in your emotions and call your father, have him meet us at Cedar General he knows the wing.” Riverdog ordered.

Liz sat quietly with Max’s head tucked safely in her lap, she gently ran her fingers through his raven locks hoping to ease a little of his pain. She looked on in bitter anguish as her mate struggled to survive the flip and she prayed to the gods of their people that he be protected and brought safely out of it. She knew the odds were against him being only half wolf the change would take a heavy toll on his body, and unlike the rest of the pack there was only a 50/50 chance he’d survive the night. ‘Come on Max you can do this, I know you can just stop fighting it and let go’

All around him the world ripped and pulled viciously, sights and sounds that were once innocent and serene were slicing through him with savage force. He knew they were driving somewhere and he could feel Liz’s light touches that offered what little reprieve he could attain from the pain, but it was still unbearable. The beast within raged to be released and he was finding it harder and harder to resist.

“ARGGHHH!!!” he let out a retched howl as his body convulsed painfully. He was being carried somewhere and every jerky movement felt like a million blades cutting into his sensitive skin. Finally they were placing him down, he was half delusion from the pain but he could tell it was a bed. Around him voices danced in and out of his consciousness, his sister, Alex, his Father, a strange male he’d never heard before, but the one that remained constant was Liz. She was at his side now, smoothing back his sweat socked hair and whispering words of encouragement. But he was just too tired to continue, his body wanted to simply shut down and he was almost ready to agree.

Sensing his hopelessness Liz poured all her strength into forming a fragile connection, she realized that by doing so she would in essence be taking on a measure of his pain and also the risk of being pulled into his death if he didn’t make it, but she was far beyond caring.

The warmth trickled into Max’s essence rekindling the fragile tendrils of hope that only moments ago seemed bleak and fading. Instinctively Max knew this was Liz, that she was offering her very life to him, and the action gave him all the strength he needed to continue. Suddenly he was no longer in stark white hospital room, but deep within an ancient wood. Around him he could hear the haunting cries of wolves as they sang to him, each howl blending together to form a cacophony of sound that filled the night with its majestic beauty. He stood transfixed staring into the shadows trying to pick out the wolf from the darkness, only to find he could no longer decipher one from the other. Before him stood a midnight black wolf, her green eyes full with love and sensuality, and he knew this was Liz. She called to him, beckoning him to follow her…

Run with me…

And this time his soul surged forward, each strong step increased his speed till he was running swiftly through the forest. Glancing down he watched awestruck as his limbs contorted and fused, realigning themselves into a new form, his skin rippled and bubbled over and soon soft white fur replaced olive skin. Then with one final lunge he landed on all fours, racing along hidden trails descending upon his prey. When she turned to face him, her sleek muscles strained and pulled seductively, and her eyes were glowing with desire and pride at her lover. Max raised his head high facing the burgeoning moon and sang his praises of contentment. His last thought was how beyond intoxicating his rebellious and strong mate seemed outlined in the pale moon light.

Back in the hospital’s sterile reality Liz pulled away from Max’s wolven form, she was speechless by the sight of him, she’d always known he was special, but never imagined this. Unable to stand from her ordeal, she was thankful when she felt her brother’s protective embrace scoop her up. Her chocolate eyes drenched in gratitude, turned to meet his astounded blue shards. The two nodded their understanding and were soon joined by the others.

“His pelt…its. He’s…” Ava studard out, still speechless from the shock of watching his transformation.

“He’s a white, the first white for more than a century in the pack.” Riverdog confirmed.

The others could only look on in reverence at the sleeping wolf, not even a sigh escaped from the group, each fearing that this was just a fleeting illusion. They held their breath as Max’s body once again flipped back to his human form and he continued to sleep peacefully. When she was finally sure that her mate had survived and was safe, Liz fell back into the black void of unconsciousness secure that when she awoke, Max would be there by her side.

“Well, this is definitely going to shake up the pack” Riverdog announced and turned to face Philip. The poor man looked like he was about to puke and Riverdog couldn’t help but snort, “Come on Philip we need to inform Jeff of this new development.” Wordlessly the two walked out leaving behind a few shell shocked teens to deal with the rest.

When they were alone Alex decided to place Liz on the bed next to Max, and couldn’t help but smirk as the two automatically turned towards each other. Instinctively knowing the other was there they reached out and embraced, like two pieces to a puzzle fitting together.

“Well isn’t that sweet”, Isabel spat her words dripping with sarcasm, she turned and walked out letting the door slam in her wake.

“Bitch!” Ava snarled, “Watch it” Alex growled in response not taking kindly to the blonde’s defamation. “Sorry, but she aint got to be so selfish, her brother nearly died and so did Liz and she’s just thinking about herself” Ava apologized, knowing her place and also Alex’s position in the pack, but still the Half breed bitch was grating on her last nerve with her holier than thou attitude. Alex shook his head and stared down his sister’s beta, “Selfish? Think about it from her perspective a minute Ava, she’s been ridiculed and trashed all her life for what she is, and the only ally she’s ever found comfort in is her brother, but now he’s pack and she is still nothing more than a ‘mongrel half-breed’” Alex explained his heart breaking for his strong willed ice princess. At his words, Ava suddenly felt ashamed for her comment, and her part in making the girl feel isolated in the past. “I think you should go after her, she might need a friend, me and Caleb will stay and keep watch after Liz and Max.” she offered and Alex happily accepted and ran out the door.

“So are the days always this exciting in Cedar Falls?” Caleb joked, which earned him a snort from Ava and much needed lightening to the mood in the room.

“You have no idea…” Ava mumbled in response thankful for this quite moment, she knew that once it got out that Max had flipped and was a white wolf, there wouldn’t be many quite moments left. She turned and studied this newcomer, he was an enigma to her, obviously he was interested in Liz, but had helped his rival without a second thought. “So Caleb, it looks like we’ll be here for awhile, how about you tell me about yourself and I’ll fill you in on the packs juiciest gossip.”

Caleb couldn’t help but smile at the tiny spitfire seated next to him, “Well let’s see me and…”

A new friendship was formed that day, one that would definitely be valuable to both Liz and Max in the near future, of course when they looked back on this day it was very evident that this ally was forged through one very determined blonde and her uncanny knack at reading people, and not the couple blissfully unaware and asleep on the bed. While a few miles away another relationship was about to be conceived from a mutual hate, but this one was far less advantageous to the pack or its members.

A figure nervously paced in the hidden shadows of the alley, constantly checking his watch and debating whether or not he should just turn around and walk. He was about to do just that, when he caught the scent of a new arrival, “It’s about damn time.” He growled in aggravation.

“Relax Mickey boy, I had a few things to take care of, so how about we get down to business.” Nicholas smirked, and took in the appearance of the male before him. Even though he clearly held nothing but contempt for the younger male, it was simply a means to an end to form an alliance with him.

Michael kept a wary eye trained on the older male, never letting his guard down, despite their budding partnership, Nicholas was still nothing more than a threat to his position as future Alpha. “Look, you called me here, so what do you want?” Michael snarled.

“Now that the Evan’s mongrel has managed to flip, I think it would be in both our best interests too make sure he is out of the picture, that is unless you want to be taking orders from a lowlife half breed…” Nicholas paused and watched as Michael’s entire demeanor changed, whatever small grip he had on his anger quickly faded away, and he smiled knowingly, “…because your dear little sister will make damn sure that mutt is her mate, and you and me will be out on our butts.”

“That’s bullshit, Liz maybe infatuated with Evans but she knows she belongs to ME!” Michael ranted, his fists mechanically pumping at his sides, as his eyes flashing gold.

Nicholas couldn’t help but smirk, this was going far better than he could’ve anticipated, “Don’t worry Mickey, once we are done with Evans he won’t even be a footnote in the packs history.”

“What do you have in mind?” Michael asked curiously. Despite his hatred for the other male, he had to admit when it came to underhanded plays for power Nicholas was an expert.

Smirk firmly painted in place Nicholas explained his plan of attack and soon the two fell into a heated debate, visions of Max’s blood soaked farewell flashing behind their eyes. What they weren’t aware of was that at this same particular moment an unsuspecting newcomer was casually taking in the sights that Cedar Falls had to offer, and unknowingly she stumbled onto one hell of secret.

Chapter 7

‘I don’t understand…my life was perfect, I had a wonderful boyfriend who adored me, great friends and above average grades, it was as close to perfect as I could imagine any high school teen’s life could be, and then…’

“Maria?!”

“Damn it” she cursed and slammed the leather bound diary, her best friend Alexa had given her as a going away present shut. She hated this new town, they’d arrived late last night, after traveling for almost two days straight, and the first place her mom drags her to is the town’s Alpha’s house. She’d barely said two words to her mother the whole ride there, and now she was expected to smile and be grateful to complete strangers, and add to that the fact she was still in a state of shock with all the new knowledge of her true lineage and her father’s blood. A lineage which she now knew flowed strong through her veins. A fact that terrified her as much as it fascinated her, her mother finally breaking down in tears, retelling the tragic love story that brought about her birth, and also cursed her with a life of caged options.

“MARIA ANEISSE DE LUCA YOU GET YOUR BUTT DOWN HERE NOW!” her mother’s outraged voice screeched through the house.

“I’m COMING!” she yelled back annoyed at her mother’s impudence. Taking a calming breath she tried to reign in her emotions, afraid that her mother would catch sight of her glowing amber eyes. ‘Relax girl, just breath…’ she mentally coached herself and after a few seconds her eyes dulled to their normal emerald shade.

When she walked down stairs, she was immediately bombarded with several very distinct smells, and her senses spiked. The first thing she noticed were the three new arrivals sitting casually in her living room, she also noticed the fear and anxiety pouring off her mother in waves. When she stepped into the room, all eyes turned to her, making her fidget self consciously, “Mom?” she questioned and slinked rapidly to her side.

“Maria, I want you to meet your Uncle Vincent, and your two cousins, Sean and Pheobe…” her mother introduced motioning to each individual, before turning to face her daughter, “…you’ll be going to school with them.”

Again she felt the world tip on its axis, she’d always believed the woman standing beside her was the only family she had left, and now she learns that she has a family she never even knew off, “Hi…” she managed to choke out still too stunned to react.

Her uncle Vincent was an attractive man standing at about 6’1, his sandy brown hair fell in soft layers to his ears, his eyes held a gentle strength that seemed to radiate with their hazel glow. His smiled seemed genuine and Maria found herself smiling in return. “It’s very nice to finally meet you Maria, I hope you can come to look upon us as family someday, and if you ever need anything feel free to come to me.”

“Thank you, um did you…I mean were you and my dad close?” she questioned timidly unsure how the question would be perceived. Vincent’s smile fell slightly before he answered, “We had a strained relationship, he was my younger brother, and I loved him, but I never really understood him until it was to late…” his eyes took on a haunted expression and he seemed to fall into a memory. Sensing his father’s distress Sean quickly stepped into the conversation. “So, Maria what do you think of Cedar Fall’s so far?”

She turned her sights on the new voice, and studied the younger male, he was tall like his father about 6’2 and carried himself in much the same way, yet there was a mischievous glint in his dark chocolate eyes. “It’s different…” Sean smiled, he could smell the subtle scent of her change, she was close to flipping a fact he wasn’t sure either female was aware off. “Yeah I bet it’s a definite culture shock.”

“How about you two go and show Maria around the town for a bit, while I catch up with Amy.” Vincent suggested.

Maria was hesitant to leave her mother alone with this new male, but with a gentle shove her mother pushed her along. “Um okay, but I have my cell on if anything.” She gave her mother a pointed look and allowed her cousins to lead her out.

Once outside she felt some of the awkwardness fall away, it was a pleasantly mild afternoon, and even with the slight nip of autumn chilling the air it was still warm enough to enjoy a leisurely stroll.

The trio soon fell into a comfortable silence that had Maria debating whether or not to break, but curiosity soon won out, “Um…so are both of you…well I’m not really sure how to word this exactly, but are you guys…”

Sean couldn’t help but smirk, he could feel her discomfort, and it was amusing especially since most pack pups were raised to be proud and forth coming about their wolven heritage. Finally taking pity on the poor girl in front of him, he decided to put an end to her misery. “Yes, Maria, both me and Phebe’s are skinwalkers, but Pheobe hasn’t flipped yet.” He knew he hit a nerve when his sister gave out a low growl of disapproval, her current unflipped status was a sore subject, “…but Phebe’s is just about to flip, actually from what I can tell both of you are at about the same level.”

Maria nearly choked when she heard how casually he’d announced a rather private matter in her life, but she quickly recovered and tried to change the subject. “So what do you guys do for fun in this town?”

“Not much, it’s either the nightly bonfire by the lake, or some jock throwing a huge kegger, both lame and both only by invite.” Pheobe answered snarling in disgust, she’d never really been allowed to attend the bonfires, and it was strictly forbidden for pack to associate with humans.

Noticing the frost in her cousins tone, Maria decided not to press any further, she was after all new to the inner workings of the pack and despite having her uncle’s backing and protection, she knew her place was still to be determined.

“Look Maria, don’t sweat it, I mean I know this is all still pretty new to you, and I’m not going to lie, the pack will not take kindly to a new Mestizo, but no one will dare harm you or your mother, not while you are under my father’s protection.” Sean informed easily gliding in between the two females.

“Mestizo…?” Maria questioned, she’d vaguely remembered hearing the Alpha’s mate calling her that. Pheobe turned and smirked, “It means half-breed, and to the pack it is lower than human.”

“Oh…” she answered and once again the silence fell like a shroud around them, Maria could only pray that her parentage would not cause her further pain. She’d already given up so much, because of the blood that flowed through her veins, it seemed cruel to her the cost she now faced at being her mother’s child.

While the kids were out, Amy was facing her own demons, staring back into eyes that so painfully reminded her of her late husband.

“Amy, I can’t say I’m surprised, I figured Cole’s blood was to strong to lay dormant in Maria much longer, though I did pray this day would never come…” Vincent watched the anger dance across her features and quickly amended his statement, “…easy now, I meant no disrespect, I just know Cole would never have wanted this life for Maria, or you…” This time his efforts were rewarded with a slight smile from the fiery redhead in front of him, but his mood turned sour all to quickly, “Now unfortunately the pack has very strict rules when it comes to its members, I will offer both you and Maria my protection, but once she flips, there can be no further contact with her former life.”

Amy was at loss for words, she wasn’t naïve enough to think that the pack would welcome her and her daughter with open arms, but after meeting with the new Alpha she was less than hopeful as to what their lives would be like in Cedar Falls.

“Vincent, I want to thank you for this, I mean…I know we never really saw eye to eye, but I loved your brother with all I had, I still do…” Amy’s eyes misted with unshed tears, as memories flooded her mind.

He could see the pain still vivid within her, and had no doubt she cried herself to sleep on a nightly basis, something he knew quiet well himself. Though he would never admit it, especially to her, in truth he’d never given her a fair shot, it was forbidden for pack to mate with humans, and getting one pregnant was certain exile, Vincent never forgave his brother for the shame he’d bestowed upon his family, or the woman before him. When he chose a life with Amy, Cole abandoned all ties with the pack and his family, he could still remember the last conversation they had, it was a memory that would torment him always…

Flashback….

“She’s pregnant.”

Vincent turned disbelieving eyes towards his brother, “What?!” he yelled clearly having misheard, for there was no way in hell that could possibly be true.

Cole stood proud, never wavering even as he felt Amy shy behind him, pushing her body close to his and tremble slightly. He squeezed her hand gently offering what little comfort he could and continued to stare his brother down. “Amy is pregnant and I plan to marry her, with or without the packs consent.”

Outrage, pure and simple outrage is what he felt at the audacity of his brother’s words, Cole had always been the family black sheep (to say the least), but he’d never expected this, “Have you gone completely insane!” Vincent’s voice thundered through the stillness of the house, booming with inhuman conviction, “You would turn your back on your family, YOUR PACK, for some human bitch!” before he could get another word out, his brother lunged, forcing him to stumble back and crash into the nearby glass coffee table.

“COLE NO!!!” Amy screamed.

Despite the pain Vincent fought back and soon both brothers were evenly exchanging punch for punch, luckily Julian had just arrived home from another meeting at Jeff’s house, and walked into the family brawl.

“WHAT THE HELL’S GOING ON!” He shouted and pulled a snarling Cole up off his brother.

Still restrained Cole only struggled for a second before calming, Julian was the eldest of the three and easily the strongest, “Let go Julian…”

When he was certain neither male would attack he released his younger brother and stood in between them. Vincent stood and wiped the blood of his cheek wincing when he touched a sensitive spot, while Cole rushed over to check on Amy who was crying hysterically. Again he was at a loss, he’d never expected to walk into in all out war between brothers, and from the way Cole was soothing Amy he could only guess why.

“You’re a disgrace you and that ungulate you call a mate, get out, both of you, you are no longer my brother!” Vincent spat his voice cold and vicious, his eyes burning with unbridled hate.

“VINCENT!?” Julian shouted appalled by his brother’s contempt, but before he could apologize to the pair, Cole interrupted.

“It didn’t have to be this way, you’re my brother and I love you, but Amy is my heart and I am not ashamed of loving her, and I don’t regret the child she is carrying, I hope one day you can see past your ignorant prejudice but until then I guess this is goodbye brother.” With a heavy heart Cole gathered Amy into his arms and walked out of the only home he’d even known…

End Flashback…

It would be the last time he saw his brother alive; a year later he was gone. A stupid senseless accident ended his life and left his wife and daughter completely alone. He never got the chance to apologize and now it was too late. He was brought back from his thoughts by the soft hand on his arm, “I know you did, I also know he loved you just as fiercely, and though I’ll never be able to make amends where my brother is concerned, I’d like to think that by protecting that which was most precious to him, I am in some way honoring his memory.”

Amy was about to ask how he planned to keep them safe, when pack law clearly stated that their position within the pack was forfeit, when the kids came bounding through the door.

“Hey Mom were back” Maria called out as she headed straight for her mother.

“Hey sweetie did you have a nice walk?” From the strange way her daughter entered, Amy could tell she was feeling uncomfortable and one glance at her two companions she knew why. “Is everything ok?”

“Yeah mom, look I’m a little tired so is it okay if I go up to my room?” Maria explained keeping her tone light and never allowing her eyes to focus on her mother or their guests.

Amy could sense that something was wrong but decided to let it slide for the moment, “Sure honey go ahead.” Maria smiled gratefully and bid her farewells before darting up to her room. Once safe within the shelter of her 4 walls, she finally let her guard down and the tears flowed unhindered. Tears for the tragic love that she was conceived in, tears for a life she’d lost and tears for a life she could never truly belong in. She was alone, and for the first time in her life she had no one to turn to.

Post by EclecticRoswellian »

Thnxs guys for all the comments they totally inspire me to get these chapters up with a quickness...

nibbles2: The wolves are a bit prejudice, but most of it comes from fear, humanity isn't always known for being accepting, so fear breeds fear. As far as the the cross species aspect, well what can a I say they are changing their views but a snails pace, hopefully with a Half-breed Alpha they'll be singing another tune...now don't worry to much about Maria, she's a tough cookie.

pookie76: well I'll try to get these up atleast one a week, I have the first 12chpts written I'm just tweaking them so they'll be up quicker than the rest

And thnxs again to all the rest for your posts, here is the next part hopes you like....

Chapter 8

She tore through the dense foliage with inhuman speed, already her blood raged to be set free, her wolf longing to feel the whip of wind against her snot, or the crunch of paws beating against the forest floor. She only had one thought which repeated on a constant loop in her mind.

‘Find Caleb’

She could just barely make out his essence signature within the town, but she latched on to the familiar wisp and let it guide her. It wasn’t that she personally felt any fear for her own safety or that of her family, it was more an inane sense of urgency. She’d stumbled onto a secret that had the makings of a social rebellion, an act that would definitely shake this pack to its core. Having been privy to the fall of her own pack she was not eager to lose this last chance at finding a home.

She let out a breath as she saw the forest open up and a row of buildings come into view, ‘He’s at the hospital?’ she thought and immediately her anxiety spiked. Through their mental link she called out to him, ‘Caleb what’s going on? Why are you at the hospital?’

‘Kit?? What’s wrong?’ Caleb asked concerned by the panic in his sister’s tone.

‘Tell me where you’re at, I need to talk to you…’ Kit answered already heading towards Cedar Fall’s General. It only took her a few seconds to reach the waiting room and once she stepped into its pasty green arms she collapsed.

“KIT!” Caleb cried out as he watched his sister stumble into sight before falling in a heap by the door.

A smile of accomplishment graced her lips briefly before she passed out from sheer exhaustion, yet she was safe in the knowledge that her brother would look out for her.

Caleb felt his blood run cold and his eyes flashed gold when he took in his sister’s tattered appearance. A hundred scenarios flashed before his eyes, none of them offering any reassurance.

“Is she okay?” Ava cautiously asked, keeping her distance out of respect.

Gently lifting her up into his arms, Caleb carried his sister over to the couch and laid her down. He hissed when he got a good look at the scratches marring her face and body. ‘What happened to you Kit?’ he silently asked while brushing away a stray lock of hair from her forehead. When he was sure of her safety he turned to face Ava.

“I don’t know, but something definitely spooked her.” He answered but continued to hover close to his sister.

Ava was about to step out and give him a moment of privacy when Liz interrupted them, “Liz what are you doing up?”

Waving her off, Liz made her way towards Caleb and his sister, “What’s going on, I felt this wave of fear and anxiety that jolted me from sleep, is she okay?” Liz asked worriedly, her hand gently smoothing a few jumbled locks of hair on Kit’s head.

Caleb nearly choked when Liz placed her other hand on his shoulder, but managed to regain his composure without her noticing. “Um…I’m not really sure, she just got here and then collapsed before she could explain…”

“Look I think she’s wakening…”Liz said and moved aside so Caleb could have some space with Kit.

“Caleb?” Kit called timidly.

“Hey sleepyhead welcome back…” Caleb teased tenderly and helped her sit up. Kit was about to tease him back when the reality of the situation came flooding back.

“OH my god Caleb, I just, I mean I overheard these two guys and they were, talking, no wait they were plotting…and…” Kit was babbling her words began to jumble together and her breath came out in short pants.

“Whoa…just take a breath and try to make some kind of sense please.” Caleb held up a hand and turned confused eyes toward both Ava and Liz, who both appeared just as worried as he was.

Kit on the other hand was getting frustrated with her brother and finally erupted, “Look! I’m making sense okay, I was out checking out the town, when I stumbled upon a plot to get rid of the Queen B’s mate, and probably throw the whole pack into an all out war.”

“WHAT!?” all three cried out in shock.

Liz was the first to jump to action her fear and protectiveness spiking at the mention of Max’s life in danger, “Who did you see?” she asked her voice steely cold and her whole demeanor shifting to Alpha mode.

Kit gulped when she saw the change but managed to stutter out a response, “…um…it was some creep looking guys with short black hair, and um your step brother.” She visibly relaxed when Liz nodded and stepped back.

Ava who’d remained silent through most of the ordeal now took up her position next to her Alpha, “Liz this aint good, if Michael and Nicholas are conspiring it means that most of the pack will back this move.”

Wiping a weary hand over her face Liz let her eyes roam over the three individuals in the room, one she trusted with her life, the other two she barely knew and this was not the time to trust lightly, ‘Aves we need to come up with a plan, but I’m not sure I want Caleb and Kit involved’ she silently pathed and waited for Ava’s response.

‘Liz it’s kinda late for that now, plus I trust them.’

Both Caleb and Kit looked on, noticing the quiet exchange taking place in front of them. Caleb was certain that Liz would be hesitant to getting them involved, and in truth he wasn’t sure he wanted them involved either. Sure Liz and Ava were good people but the rest of them were turning out to be no better than the psycho’s that made up his old pack. He was about to delve deeper into those memories when Liz’s voice interrupted his thoughts.

“Look, I want to say thanks for today, I mean you barely know me and still you helped me and mine, and you came all this way to warn us, when in reality you could’ve easily shrugged it off and kept quiet…” Liz gratefully smiled at the pair, “…thank you both.”

“Hey no problem, plus you got my brother all smitten so I couldn’t just let you get bum rushed.”

“Kit?!” Caleb growled his cheeks flushing pink.

Both Kit and Ava giggled, while Liz scrunched her nose in confusion, but decided to let it drop, “Okay, now I think it would be best to keep this information between the 4 of us for now.” She was about to restate the seriousness of the situation when a familiar voice pulled her away from the discussion.

“Liz…what’s going on?”

‘Shit’ she silently cursed with a smile, “Max, what are you doing up, you need your rest, especially after everything that happened today.”

Max frowned when he woke up and found that he was alone, with only the warm indentation of where Liz’s body had been to keep him company. With his new senses he easily picked up her scent and headed towards it, he was not expecting to find her in a heated discussion with Ava, a new girl, and the rival male who’d kissed her earlier. It was the last companion that had his temperature rising, his wolf outraged by his presence, and by the familiar way Liz was behaving around him.

“I’m not really that tired, what’s going on in here.” He bit out harshly, his eyes flashing gold with anger.

Liz flinched at his tone, and when she turned to face the others and excuse herself, she was shocked to find Caleb’s eyes flashing dangerously in response.

‘Crap Aves, you need to help me diffuse this situation, else we’ve got ourselves a fight brewing.’

Ava nodded her understanding and jumped to action, both girls grabbing a guy and pushing them to separate corners of the room. Only Kit remained clueless throughout the exchange, her confused eyes glancing from couple to couple. ‘What the hell’s going on?’

Sensing Max’s jealousy Liz tried to reaffirm him of her feelings, she placed her body directly in front of his and bared her neck, showing her compliance to his dominance. ‘Max relax, I’m yours only yours…’ she whimpered silently when his lips traveled lightly over the skin of her neck.

Max growled his eyes staring down the male across the room as his teeth gently bite into the soft supple skin at the base of her neck. He might not be aware of it, but his instincts were pushing him to claim his mate, especially in the presence of a rival male. His human sensibility was clashing with his wolven desire, and his eyes danced back and forth from amber to gold because of the battle.

Liz watched intently as Max fought his nature, and prayed that in this one instance the teenage boy kept his cool, else she’d be helpless to prevent the fight that would ensue. Though she maybe Alpha in her own right, Max and Caleb were male skinwalkers, and for all her bravado she could never take on two powerful males, not even with Ava in her corner.

Ava also had her hands full, trying to restrain the irate male that was in her care. Caleb was no longer the funny lighthearted companion that had remained at her side as her Alpha slept, he was now a competing male chomping at the bit, ready for a fight. ‘Caleb back off, you don’t want this, she aint your mate…’ she tried to reason with him but was fighting a losing battle, she only prayed Liz was having better luck with Max.

“Max…Please not here…please I’m yours only yours…” Liz managed to breathe out. She was holding onto her slim grasp of reality with tooth and nail, but each swipe of his tongue or graze of his teeth was driving her insane.

‘Max!’ He pulled back with a low growl, licking his lips at the sight of her emerald colored desire. With new eyes he appreciated her beauty on a whole different level, a level that no human could ever understand. In one swift move he had her pinned up against the wall, his body holding her captive against its hard stone surface. He drew in a ragged breath at the soft moan that escaped her lips from the force of the impact. The moment his eyes met their match in hers, it was like a charge of electricity surged into him, igniting every cell with its power, till his whole body trembled with need.

Liz shock herself from the haze that clouded her judgment, if she didn’t stop this now, Max would have her claimed against this wall, in front of all their friends within minutes. She had one shot, ‘I’m sorry Max…’she regretfully whispered before lunging. With the element of surprise on her side she managed to knock him off his feet, slamming his back against the floor, she only had a moment to catch her bearings, before she darted out of the room, praying that Max would take up the chase.

Her eyes scanned the empty hallway, searching for an adequate escape route, ‘ahh, there…’ Racing passed empty rooms, she found her salvation in the form of stairs. Taking them almost 3 at a time she was about to reach the 1st floor exit when she was painfully jerked back and thrown forcefully into the wall at her side. ‘Ungh…’ she groaned. She’d been caught, and as she struggled to escape her pulse raced and her body hummed with a volatile mixture of passion and power. “Max…” she moaned his name, her chest expanding with each breath, drawing him closer, till he was towering above her.

“Where you running to Liz?” he asked calmly, his eyes burning gold. His wolf so close to surface, it was taking every ounce of restraint to maintain his human guise.

Liz whimpered at the raw power in his voice, she’d been drawn to Max the shy teenage boy, but she was completely captivated by Max the skinwalker. She craved his kiss, the feel of his teeth biting into her smooth skin, the burn of his touch as his hands marked every inch of her body. “Please Max…please…” she kept repeating, not really certain what she was begging for, but needing more than his lips could provide.

He could smell her arousal, and growled in response, running his lips up her neck he thrilled in the way her body trembled at his touch. Nibbling on her earlobe caused her to make a mewling cry that drove him mad with desire, his instincts were pushing for him to claim her, but another voice was begging for his caution. These dueling thoughts waged war within his mind, as his human and wolf side fought each other for dominance.

Through her own desire Liz was able to feel Max’s hesitance, and though it physically pained her, she pulled away from his embrace. With her back to him, she drew in a shaky breath and tried to reign in her wolf, her eyes flashed briefly before settling back to their normal chocolate hue. “Max you’re not ready for this, and I never should’ve let this get so far, I’m sorry…”

Unable to comprehend his actions, Max fell to his knees, confused and ashamed for the way he’d mauled her. She wasn’t a piece of meat, to be taken at his leisure, “Liz…I’m sorry I don’t understand why I did that, or why…” before he could finish his sentence she’d fallen to the ground in front of him, “NO Max, don’t feel guilty for following your instincts, it’s what makes you wolf, it’s what makes me love you so much.” Liz could sense his guilt and shame and cursed his father for keeping both Isabel and Max so distant from the pack. They’d never learned how to deal with their animal nature or how to temper it with their human moral, and because of it they’d both feel ashamed by things that were beyond their control. She tipped his chin up and met his eyes, “There is nothing I want more than to have you claim me as your mate, and I offer you my submission to take at your desire.” Her eyes glowed an unearthly jade as she spoke, “…I am yours.” With the last phrase she tilted her head back and bared her neck to him.

Max was speechless, Liz had just given him her oath as his mate, his wolf was fighting to break free, but his human sensibility would not allow it. With a ragged breath he turned away from her, “I’m sorry Liz I just can’t, not right now…”

His actions cut her deeper than she let on, but she forced a smile on her face and nodded her understanding. “It’s okay Max, how about we head back, I know your tired and I’m sure by now Isabel’s probably torn Ava a new one looking for you.”

He could feel her pain through the bond, and it killed him to know he was the cause, even through her weak attempt at levity, “Liz…”

“Please Max just don’t, I understand you need time I won’t push you on this, but I want you to know that my oath was real…” she met his gaze letting her eyes burn with all the love she felt for him, “…you’re my soul mate Max and no amount of time will change that, I love you Max Evans.”

For the second time in the span of minutes he was left speechless, ‘she loves me’ his mind whispered repeatedly, and it was true he could see it in her eyes. This was uncharted territory for them, “Liz…I..”

Liz shook her head and placed a finger to his lips, “Max you don’t have to say it in return, I know…” she smiled gently. And she did know, he was broken inside, both twins were, ever since the death of their mother, but Max had taken the news of her death far worse out of the two. Since then he’d never truly let anyone in again, Liz knew it was his fear of losing another loved one, but she was determined to heal that wound. “Now come on, before they think I’ve kidnapped you for my own twisted desires.” She teased and giggled at the blush that painted his cheeks.

Alright here's the next part, I will again try and post every few days, since I have these chapters written, thanks again for all your comments and feedback I'm loving it

Chapter 9

She sat lazily skimming over her latest copy of teen vogue, envying the carbon copy girls with their purchased bodies and plastic smiles. They had the world at their fingertips, and never really appreciated it, while she was stuck in this backwater town for the rest of her life, with only these magazines to offer a sneak peek at the world outside her gilded cage.

‘Come on Gia snap out of it’ she mentally berated herself.

When she glanced around the busy diner she couldn’t help but smirk, ‘if only these humans knew’ she mused, but envied their blissful ignorance. She envied all of them, sure on the outside the pack appeared to be the favored of the two, but in truth, the humans were the lucky ones. What she wouldn’t give to be just a normal teenage girl, where her biggest worry was what college she was going to attend and whether or not the boy she liked would ask her to prom. ‘What a joke…’ They were the rulers of a tragic kingdom, a race that no longer had a place in society, other than the occasional best seller or horror movie. Yet even in this small town where her kind walked freely among the humans, she still felt completely isolated. Though she was considered pack, she wasn’t exactly apart of them, she was different, she was a breed apart, so to speak. In a town full of shape shifters, she was only one of 3 of her kind. A distant cousin to the pack, at least that’s what her mother kept telling her and her brother, but for all the family references they were still outsiders, they were still not pack.

‘Well fuck’um I never wanted to be another bitch in the pack anyways…’

She was so lost in her thoughts she missed his approach until he was seated in front of her, “Well look what we have here, a pretty little pussy all by her lonesome, what’s wrong Gia, feeling blue.”

“Nico, what an unpleasant surprise, what no little children around for you to torment.” She sneered and tried to back away from his touch.

Despite the witty banter Nicholas couldn’t help but smile at her, she was after all the closest thing to a mate he had, though he was sure she didn’t see it that way. “Now, now kitty put away the claws I’m here on business.”

Gia let her eyes rake over him briefly, and in spite of her disgust, she couldn’t help how her heartbeat picked up in his presence. She licked her lips, and gave him her best ‘fuck me smile’, “Oh yeah, what kind of business…?” She had to admit he was one damn fine looking man, with his onyx eyes and the chiseled features it was no wonder he was known for the trail of broken hearts he left behind him, yet she could never figure why he always came back to her. They weren’t a couple by any conventional term of the word, lord knows she had her fair share of lovers, but still she always returned to him as he did to her.

Nicholas sniffed the air around her and his eyes flashed briefly, “Not that kind of business sweets, though…” Inching closer to her, he breathed in her scent, enjoying the feel of the slight shivers that raced over her skin at his proximity.

He was just about to let his lips linger over the skin behind her earlobe, when she pulled away, panting for breath, “Um…weren’t you here…for um business?” she asked in a daze.

Again he smiled as he watched her fidget under his gaze, “Right business, now I’m sure you’ve heard that the Evan’s mutt has managed to flip.” He said with obvious contempt dripping from his words.

Gia rolled her eyes, she knew it was only a matter of time before both Evans’ pups flipped, even if most of the pack would rather they didn’t. “Yeah I heard the pup made it through the change, and I’m sure that is grating on your last nerve, especially considering who jumped to his rescue. I bet that really pissed you off, that miss prim and proper chose a lowly half-breed over you or any other pack male, sucks to be you Nicky…”

“Watch it kitty or I’ll have to have you declawed.” Nicholas smirked and licked his lips appreciatively, as he drank in woman before him. Despite the fact that she wasn’t exactly pack, or was it rather because of it, that he was so enthralled by her exotic beauty. It was common knowledge among the pack that the Cassadines were a mixed breed, Malachi, going against pack law, married a feline lycan. His mate Ananissa was the eldest child of her own prides Alpha, and though she was disowned for her marriage, it gave her enough standing within the pack to at least guarantee the lives of her pups. The four Cassadine pups however were an enigma to him and the pack, two wolves and two panthers, one of each in both sets of twins, and while Gianna was a panther, her twin sister Selena was all wolf.

“Is there something you want, or are you just going to leer at me all afternoon?” She groaned with abhorrence, keeping her eyes strategically glued to the magazine in her hands. He couldn’t help but give her an appreciative smile, “Actually as much as I would love to keep up this little dance of ours, I do have some business that needs discussing.”

Her ears perked up, and she turned a curious eye up to him, “I’m listening…”

With a smirk firmly in place he leaned in close to her, letting her scent tease his senses again, his eyes flashed gold briefly, “I need your expertise with a little problem I have that needs dealing with…”

“My expertise is not yours for the using, and frankly I could care less who the queen bitch chooses for a mate.” Gia explained in a bored tone, her eyes only briefly rising form the magazine in her hands to glance at him.

“Whatever, look all I need you to do is keep Evans busy, he hasn’t accepted Liz’s proposal to mate formally so he can easily be swayed, especially when it is someone of your raw talent, who’s doing the propositioning.” Nicholas let one of his fingers skim lightly over the back of her hand, noticing the slight jump of her pulse and thrilling in the effect he still had over her.

She detested the way her body reacted to just a simple touch of his, her eyes steeled and she firmly locked her emotions away, “I don’t know who you think your talking to, but I am not some two bit whore, that does your bidding. You want Evans out of the way you handle it yourself, or better yet get one of your air headed bimbittes to fuck him, those bitches are always sniffing around for new meat.” She snarled barely capable of restraining the urge to rip his throat out, when his eyes mockingly glowed.

“Now, now Gia, green isn’t really your color, and if I do recall you are quite insatiable during your heats…” taking a deep breath in, Nicholas’s eye lids grew heavy with desire, “…and from the smell all over you, your entering one within a few days. So how about we both reap the benefits of this partnership, I get Evans out of my hair, and you get first dibs on a new born skin walker, if I remember correctly, virgin blood is a highly powerful aphrodisiac for your pride.”

Pure hatred pumped through her veins, it never ceased to amaze her just how far her feelings for him had changed. She’d once imagined herself to be utterly in love with the male seated at her side, once she believed that he’d be the man she’d choose as her mate, how wrong she’d been. “It seems that you’re getting the better end of the deal here.” Gia pushed herself further back into the seat, trying to put as much distance between them as possible.

“Well, I’m sure I can think of something to sweeten the pot for you…” Nicholas gave her a suggestive wink, and licked his lips.”

“You’re disgusting, and I’m sick of listening to you, so if you’ll excuse me…” she pulled out and stood getting ready to leave, but before she could take two steps Nicholas lunged. Wrapping a claw shaped hand around her arm he pierced the tender flesh, his eyes glowing with bridled fury. “Sit Down.” He gave her a warning growl, and pushed her back forcefully, causing her to groan out in pain when her back smacked into the chair’s rough backing.

Gia’s eyes frosted with hate and she hissed at him, “Fine…” she took in a breath and tried to ease the anxiety coursing through her body. “Fine…I’ll do it...” she whispered brokenly.

Once she agreed Nicholas released her arm and smiled, “That’s a good kitty, so I’ll get back to you with the details, for now just try and get the young pup’s attention…” Nicholas leaned in and let his lips trail gently over her cheek, “…always a pleasure my sweet pussy…” he whispered with a kiss.

Her breath caught and she could barely manage a simple nod in reply, she watched still stunned silent by his actions. ‘Damn him!’ she cursed and when she was certain he was really gone she let out the breath she’d unconsciously held. ‘Well Gia you’ve really done it this time, agreed to be a pawn for the devil himself…’

Chapter 10

“Here goes nothing…” Maria whispered to herself as she stepped into the main office. Her mother insisted that she be allowed to accompany her today, being as it was her first day in a new school, and considering how many ‘others’ were around she almost agreed, but in the end she needed to do this on her own. Now as she stood and glanced around, her fledging senses picking up the few pack members around her, and she regretted her choice.

“Can I help you?” the pretty blonde asked from behind the counter.

“Oh, um yeah my name’s Maria De Luca and I’m a new student here, I think I’m supposed to meet with um…shit I forgot her name.,,” she scavenged around her bag, searching for the slip of paper that her mother had given her this morning, and cursing her lack of organization.

The blonde couldn’t help but giggle, this girl was obviously clueless, but she seemed nice enough, “Don’t worry about it, it’s probably Mrs. Chambers she handles the special transfers…”

Maria gasped lightly as the blonde’s hazel eyes flashed gold, she’d never get use to that, “Thanks…”

‘This girl is too cute’, she smiled at the shock in her eyes, “Yeah no problem, just have a seat over there and I’ll call her for you, oh by the way the names Lonnie.”

“Maria…and thanks again.” This time Maria offered her a real smile and found herself breathing a little easier, perhaps this wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Of course had she known what awaited her today, she might not have been so quick to relax. Her first couple of classes went by without a hitch, she was even pleasantly surprised to find Pheobe in a few periods, it wasn’t until lunch that things took a turn for the worse.

She walked through the halls, completely absorbed in her own little world, she was going over everything she’d learned earlier, and so far she had to admit Falls High was no different than her former high school, and for that small reprieve she was thankful. Mentally going over each valid point in her mind she completely ignored the voice that called out to her.

“Hey blondie you Deaf or something?!” he asked again, only to find her once more ignoring his presence. It enraged him that this half breed chic paid him no attention, being the acts first think later type of guy he was, he grabbed her arm and jerked her to stop.

When she felt the vice like grip bruising her arm, Maria snarled and without thinking whipped her arm around, finger nails extending she slashed the perpetrators face, “Get the Fuck off ME!”

He winced at the sharp pain that now throbbed from his cheek, with fiery eyes he stared down his prey, a drop of blood raced down his face and he licked it before it dripped by. “That was a mistake.” He said with ice cold conviction.

Suddenly her misplaced outrage vanished leaving only the fear that his presence instilled, she turned her head wildly searching for a familiar face. She almost squealed with delight when she caught sight of the blonde she’d met earlier today in the office, “Lonnie…” the name died on her lips, when she saw the regretful frown marring the young girls face, and then the severity of the situation hit her.

“Look I’m sorry about earlier, so if we could just pretend this never happened and go our separate ways, I promise to stay as far away from you as possible.” Maria gulped at the strange glimmer in her captures eyes.

“What’s wrong blondie, you seemed all eager to play a few minutes ago…” he pushed her roughly into a wall of lockers, “Well now you’ve got my full attention, so how’s about we play?” Trapping her with his arms, he could literally taste the fear and anger pouring off her, and it intrigued him. She’d actually gotten a good lick at him, and even now when she was clearly overpowered she refused to back down, defiance shining in her eyes that now glowed with gold fury. That’s when he felt something he’d never felt before, an inkling of true emotion, just a mere wisp of an attraction that was not based on carnal desire but rather on a deeper connection. Pulling away from her abruptly he stared confused and then before she could utter another word he was gone.

Maria was fully prepared to get her ass handed to her on a plate, but when he fled from her sight she stood in shock, ‘What the hell?’ She stared at the spot he was occupying only seconds ago, still in a stupor as to what had just happened.

“Hey you okay?”

Turning she focused on the new arrival, nodding in response, she picked up her purse that had fallen to the ground by her feet during the confrontation and pulled out a small vile that held her salvation. Taking deep whiff she let the pungent aroma relax her frazzled nerves, once she was back to a semblance of clarity she faced her companion yet again.

“What was all that about, and why the hell didn’t you help me?” Maria asked stilled confused by the whole confrontation.

Lonnie let out a sigh, “Look you’re a cool chic and all and if it was any other male than I’d be at your side in a heartbeat, but that was Michael Guerin…” when the blonde still appeared clueless Lonnie figured she was just in shock, “Michael Guerin as in Alpha to the teen pack Michael Guerin, you know the head honcho around these parts, he would’ve ripped out my throat if I intervened, if anyone intervened…”

Maria’s eyes widened in understanding, and she winced with the knowledge, ‘Good job De’Luca your first day here and you manage to piss off the head tyrant’

Lonnie watched as understanding dawned on the distraught blonde, and then watched as the understanding melted into fear and regret. Shaking her head, she placed a hand on the smaller girl’s shoulder and gave it a comforting squeeze, “Maria don’t sweat it, whatever happened he backed off, which is a good sign, now you just have to avoid any contact with him at all costs, and pray that no one saw the little exchange.”

The sound of the bell signaled the end of lunch and Lonnie excused herself, leaving Maria to walk alone to her next class. She was definitely not looking forward to her next three periods, they were all strictly pack classes, which meant she was definitely going to run into Michael at some point, ‘Great’ she thought caustically and scurried to class.

When she stepped inside her next class, she fidgeted nervously and stared around hoping to catch a glimpse of either Sean of Pheobe, but unfortunately neither was present.

“Can I help you?” a middle aged brunette asked.

“Oh yeah sorry I’m new here, um here’s my schedule.” Maria handed her the piece of paper and stood nervously at her side.

“Great, well Ms. De Luca it is a pleasure now please introduce yourself to the class?”

With a sigh she turned to face the masses, “Yeah so my name’s Maria I just moved here from New Mexico with my mom, um and it has definitely been a learning experience…” she finished with a sigh and turned to face her teacher, when the woman nodded she grabbed her stuff and headed to the only empty chair in the class. It was beside a tiny dark haired girl, who smiled geniunely at her as she sat down.

“Hey, my name’s Liz.”

“Maria”

“Yeah I got that much, so your Sean’s cousin huhn…”Liz smiled at the confused nodded, “…small town, plus your mom stopped by my house the first night here.”

“Shit, you’re the Alpha’s kid…”Maria blurted out, which caused Liz to giggle louder.

“Ms. Parker, Ms. De Luca do we have a problem here?” there conversation was interrupted by an annoyed voice.

“No Mrs. Hardy.” In bored tone Liz apologized while Maria only shook her head. When Mrs. Hardy continued with her lecture Liz turned back to Maria. “Hey I just wanted to say a like the way you handled my stepbrother today…”

“Um thanks…” Maria hesitated briefly, before answering, still unsure what the brunette’s intentions were.

Liz smiled feeling a new kinship to the girl in front of her, she was different, a wolf that lived outside the packs leash, she stared at the blonde with interest, “So I wanted to invite you to hang out today, you know a sort of welcome to the pack kinda thing.”

Maria’s brow furrowed as the incident with Michael flashed through her mind.

Sensing her indecision Liz quickly added that Michael would be nowhere around, and Maria finally nodded.

“Cool, so I will meet you in the quad after last period....”

“Ms. Parker one more word out of you and I will be seeing you after school in detention for a week, do we understand each other?” Mrs. Hardy’s annoyed voice rang out through the class.

Liz flinched but nodded her head and sat back in her chair, she didn’t want to tempt fate twice so she refrained from any further comments.

When the bell finally rang Maria finalized plans with Liz, and headed to her next class. Though the day started out hectic things finally calmed down and once the final bell rang Maria let out well deserved breath, she’d survived her first day, things could only get better from here, right?
Little did she know that her life was about to get a whole lot more complicated, as she finally took her place among the pack.

Thank you all for your patience and for all the feedback, let me know what you think

Chapter 11

“Elizabeth we will discuss this further when you get home today!”

Before her father could even finish his statement she was already bounding off her balcony, her normal escape route. She could still hear the steel warning of his voice as he set down the law, ‘Pack Law dictates…’ she mimicked condescendingly in her mind, ‘What bullshit, I’m not a pack whore to be mated off like a prize, I choose who I love, I choose my fate…’ rage began a slow boil within her, and as it intensified so did her speed, till she was only a blur among the shadows.

How she longed to just let her mortal frame dissolve, to let the beast roam free, to hunt and savor her kill, but unfortunately daylight was no friend to her kind. Too many watching eyes, and one small misstep could be the difference between life and death for the whole pack. Still even in her human guise, nothing compared to the exhilaration of racing the wind. This was but a small fraction of time where she could find a moments peace, without the trappings of her family’s lineage to force her into compliance.

Her senses suddenly perked up as she caught a familiar scent on the wind, letting them guide her she soon came upon a small clearing.

He’d sensed her approach long before she’d arrived, and yet he was still left breathless when he turned to face her. In the early morning light she glowed, her skin soaking with inhuman light, the flush that painted her cheeks, the small puffs of breath that vaporized in the crisp autumn air, everything was perfect, she was perfect.

“Hey Max…how are you?” she hated the awkward sensation that flowed through her body, she’d always been in control of their dance, but now he was the one in charge and it terrified her.

“I’m good, you?” he watched as she hesitated, he could feel her uncertainty and regretted that he was the cause.

“Good, um just heading to school, um so I guess…I’ll just go then…” Unable to handle the mixed emotions she was feeling from him, she took the cowards way out and turned to leave.

With lighting fast reflexes, he lunged, coming to an abrupt stop inches away from her rigid back. He inadvertently inhaled her scent, his eyes glowing with raw need at her proximity. His wolf snapping at his heels, “Please Liz wait.”

Her body trembled slightly and she exhaled a breath she wasn’t even aware she was holding. The scent of warm grass and spice slithered around her; it was the scent that belonged only to Max. She’d ingrained it into her heart since they were children, wolves mate for life, and she’d chosen hers' at 8 years old. Needing his strength she leaned back into him, “Max…”

It was more a plea than an acknowledgement, and he could feel his insides melt, wrapping his arms around her shoulders, he held her. Only Liz could cause his heart to beat both fast and slow all at the same time, he wanted to assure her, to ease away the doubts he’d so callously caused, “Liz…”

She knew this was not the time to even attempt to get into this, and she could also feel his urgency to soothe her bruised ego, turning in his arms, she met his eyes and smiled. “Come on, we’re going to be late.” Then with a tug she pulled him along, she knew it was far from over, but for now this was enough.

As they reached the forest opening, Max bristled, he could feel the pack all around him, judging him through new eyes. ‘Relax everything’s going to be fine’ Liz’s gentle voice eased into his thoughts calming him if only for a second. He smiled down at her, finding his strength in the richness of her eyes. “Come on might as well get this over with.”

The two raced each other the rest of the way to school, playfully teasing and jabbing as they ran, simply content to be in the moment. When they reached the entrance to Fall’s High, Liz was thankful that both Ava and Alex were waiting for them.

“Hey guys.” She greeted pulling Max along with her.

“Hey lovebirds.” Ava teased with a wink.

“Sup Max, I thought you’d definitely bail today, I guess my sister dragged your butt here huhn?” Jabbing him as he spoke Alex wasn’t surprised when Max simply shrugged. He’d figured Max would need sometime to adjust after everything, but when he caught the lingering glances between him and Liz, he knew he’d be just fine.

“So what’s the damage?” Liz asked Ava keeping her voice light.

With a small frown Ava nodded, “It aint good, Michael and his goons are all riled up, and word through the pack is they plan on calling Max out.”

‘Damn him’ Liz mentally cursed, but tried to keep an outward appearance of calm for Max’s benefit. One that he of course saw right through.

“Liz we knew this would happen, Michael and crew have been gunning for me since we hit middle school.” Max informed casually.

“Yeah I know that, but you were under pack protection since you hadn’t gone through the flip yet, but now Max he can issue a challenge and there is nothing to stop him from seeing it through…” Liz looked around nervously, she could feel the tension in the air, the pack was gearing up for a change in leadership, either Max stood his ground and faced Michael or he backed off and lost his chance to claim Liz. Both choices terrified her, the thought of losing Max was unacceptable, “Max maybe you should go home today, you know just take a day no one would think less of you.”

“What?! No Liz, I’m not running home with my tail between my legs, I’m not letting Michael or anyone else intimidate me, not anymore.” He was angry and hurt by her lack of confidence in him, though he knew she was just worried about his well being, it still stung to know she had no faith in him. “Look I gotta go find Isabel I’ll catch up with you guys later.” He stormed past the trio, completely ignoring Liz as she called out for him to stop.

“Max Wait!”

“Liz let him go…” Alex kept a restraining hand on his sister’s shoulder, as she tried to run after him. When she calmed enough to talk he released her, and wasn’t surprised to find her eyes flashing with anger. “You can’t treat him like a human anymore Liz, he has to fight his own battles and find his place within the pack…”

“I know that, don’t you think I know that, but Michael’s going to fight dirty and I can’t lose him Alex, I just can’t…” Liz choked back a sob that threatened to escape.

Alex’s heart went out to his sister, “Liz you have to support his choices, you can’t control him or you’re going to lose him regardless.”

She knew his words were true, she also knew that making any attempt to stop what was bound to happen would only belittle Max in the eyes of the pack, hanging her head she could only nod her acceptance.

Ava had kept silent through the exchange, and like Alex her heart went out to the young couple, but before she could offer any comfort all three teens stiffened.

“Well, well what do we have here, it looks like our half-breed loving alpha bitch and her lackeys but no mongrel in tow. What’s wrong Liz; did your charity case run home?” Logan sneered as the trio rounded the corner.

Both, Logan and Zan were leaning against a wall of lockers, a pair of nameless blondes attached to their sides.

“Back off!” Alex growled his eyes flashing emerald with anger. He quickly stepped in front of both girls, keeping his body purposely between the two males and them.

Unlike Zan, Logan felt no need to back down, he was sick of the supposed power the Alpha’s pup carried, Michael was his leader and in his eyes Alex was only a lowly human loving disgrace. “What’s wrong Parker, did I strike a nerve?”

Alex squared off against the offending male, carefully keeping an eye to his left on Zan he snarled a low warning, “Logan back the fuck off, unless you want to start something you wont be able to finish.”

Even Liz bristled at the steel in her brother’s tone, she could feel his power radiating off in waves, and it was obvious Logan was in way over his head. She watched transfixed as her normally reserved sibling released his restraints and the beast within surged forward.

Logan soon found himself faced off with an opponent he had no chance of beating, and quickly regretted his stupidities, but it was already too late. Alex lunged easily pinning the young male to the wall, his eyes burning with unbridled fury, “Forgive me…I’m sorry…” he managed to whimper out.

The smell of fear played havoc with Alex’s senses, as he fought to restrain his wolf, “This is your only free pass, do not mistake my neutrality for weakness, I choose to stay out of the running for Alpha, but I will not allow you or any other useless male to disrespect my sister again!” Shoving him hard against the wall, Alex tore himself away from the frightened male, releasing a ragged breath he pushed down his wolf and turned to Zan, “Get the fuck out of my sight…NOW!”

In a flash both boys were gone, their bitches following closely behind as they ran. Liz and Ava stayed silent as they observed the scene, both a bit shaken by the uncharacteristic anger and power Alex was portraying. Around them they could feel the pack’s eyes, many were curious by the show of strength, while others were reassessing their allegiance, it was now clearly obvious that both Max and Liz had far more power behind them then once assumed.

“Damn Alex, I never knew you had it in you, let me just say that right now you are all kinds of hot.” Ava teased trying to lighten the mood.

“Shut up?” Alex groaned in response, he wasn’t use to being in the spotlight, and he could literally feel the weight of the pack push in from all around him.

Both Liz and Ava smiled when they caught the slight tint of pink painting his cheeks “Come on baby bro lets get to class before all the bitches around start to pick up on your scent.” Liz pulled him along, laughing at the way his body tensed at the thought. Unlike Ava and the others she was well aware of Alex’s hidden strength, if her brother so chose to he could easily bump Michael off his place as teen Alpha, but unlike most young males he never wanted the trappings of leadership. Like her, he was more than happy to give up his birthright for a quiet life, yet unlike her, Alex had managed to stay below the radar, though after today she wasn’t so sure he’d remain hidden much longer.

Chapter 13

“Hey…”

At the sound of her voice he nearly froze, things had become so strained between the two of them that he was afraid, she’d run if he even took a breath. Slowly he turned and found her sulking at his doorway, “Hey Iz.” He motioned for her to come in, and breathed a sigh of relief when she accepted and cautiously took a seat on his bed.

“Um…so how’ve you been?”

“Good I guess, still trying to get use to everything you know.” Max offered her a smile which quickly faded when he saw the loneliness draped over her eyes. “Iz what’s going on?” he asked and gently wrapped an arm around her shoulders, relaxing when she didn’t flinch or pull away.

Isabel was drowning in her own self doubt, she was now fighting the change tooth and nail and it was rapidly tearing her apart. “Max…I’m sorry for the way I acted and treated you after you flipped, it was selfish and wrong of me…” before she could finish Max had her wrapped in an embrace and that was all it took, she finally broke down and wept in her brother’s arms.

Holding on to her, Max waited until her sobs receded, “Iz please don’t cry, you have nothing to apologize for, if anything it is me who should be asking forgiveness.” He gently disentangled himself from her side and stood, with an exasperated breath he started pacing nervously around his room. “Izzie I knew how terrified you were about the change and how alone you felt, and I let my own selfish desires cloud my judgment. I should’ve come to you sooner and told you about my symptoms, I should’ve been honest from the beginning, instead of hiding things from you.”

She watched him carefully, with senses she’d rather not know she had, she could easily pick up his feelings of pain and sorrow. “Okay how about this, how about we just apologize once and never speak of this again.” When he nodded his consent Isabel smiled, “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you.”

“I’m sorry for hiding things from you and not taking into account your feelings.” Max apologized and once again took a seat at her side.

“Good, um now how’ve you been little brother?”

Hanging his head, Max let out a breath, “I’m not sure Iz, I feel like I’m being torn apart, one side of me is pure instinct, wild and domineering, while the other is reserved and wrapped in human moral and ethics.” He stood again and started his pacing once more.

Isabel watched the inner battle wage within her brother, but stayed silent allowing him to reveal as much as he needed without her interruption.

“I know dad raised us as best he could, and I know he promised mom to keep us away from pack life, but I’m not sure if that was the best idea. I mean look at us now, we don’t belong anywhere, not as pack and definitely not as humans, I’m so confused Isabel, I love Liz but if I accept her as my mate, I will be constantly fighting to keep her at my side, constantly proving myself to everyone that I am not some weak half breed but rather a strong Alpha in training.”

Once he was done Max let himself fall to the floor his head in his hands, drained and exhausted, it surprised him to find Isabel at his side a thoughtful expression washed over her face. “Max, you’ll make a great Alpha, and our mother’s blood doesn’t make us weak, if anything it makes us stronger. She gave her life protecting us and that kind of courage only comes from a strong heart, I know I’ve never really accepted the wolf side of our heritage, but it seems I don’t have a choice now…” She grew silent for a moment, as images of a life she’d no longer have a chance to live grew further and further away from her grasp, “…I won’t be ridiculed or pushed aside any longer, we are pack and it is high time they started dealing with it, now as far as you and Liz are concerned well, I think you need to figure out what you want and then have the courage to go out and get it, but don’t wait to long little brother.” She smiled and playfully jabbed him in the side.

Once again he was at a loss for words, he’d never expected Isabel to be the one to push him towards Liz, but then again he never expected to turn into a wolf at his whim either.

“Alright well I actually came up here to remind you that dad wants us home for dinner today, something about an important matter to discuss or whatever, I’m going to meet up with Alex so I’ll just leave you to it and see you then.” Isabel explained with a secret smile and headed for the door.

“Alex huhn, what’s that about?” Max asked although he had his suspicions already, but the light tint of pink that spread over his sister’s cheeks was all he needed to confirm it.

“Nothing we’re just friends, so don’t read into it.” She huffed and walked out.

“Bye Izzie…” Max stared at the spot his sister had just occupied, can’t say I didn’t see that coming, he thought casually before standing and stretching his weary limbs. Today had been a test to his sanity, he’d been expecting his transition into pack life to be difficult, but he was in no way prepared for what today held in store fro him. Already his mind was recalling all the incidents he faced throughout the day, but one stuck out in particular…

Flashback….

He could feel their eyes all over him, hear their whispers as he passed them in the hall, and more than once he could’ve sworn he heard their appreciation lick at his mind. His newborn wolf senses were wreaking havoc on his emotions, the smell of desire was thick in the air and coming from to many sources to name.

“Hey Evans, thought you’d bailed on me, seeing as how I haven’t seen you seen the spat you had with my sister this morning.” Alex taunted as he came up to his side.

“Not a chance Parker, but you can thank your dear sister for that.” Max let out a weary sigh.

“Look Max I’m not siding with Liz on this one, but you gotta see it her way to, she just doesn’t want you to get hurt, I mean she’s just worried for you is all.” Alex tried to smooth over Max’s bruised ego.

Max was about to answer when he was forcefully pushed out of the way, causing him to nearly fall over from the impact.

“What the hell is your problem?!” Max snarled he was about to push back when three pair of glowing amber eyes stared ruthlessly at him.

“What was that Half-breed?! Logan spat, as both Zan and Michael surrounded him.

For a brief second Max felt the human side of him retreat, but his wolf was too proud to back down from a challenge, “I asked what the hell your problem was, or are you deaf and stupid too.” This time his eyes flashed a brilliant gold before reverting to his normal amber color as he held is ground.

Time seemed to stand still as all eyes were drawn to the scene playing out in the hall, it was an epic confrontation, that had the makings of an all out war, and failure was not an option for either party.

Max squared off his eyes hardened to steel as he stood his ground, Michael circled the burning eyes of a predator stalking his prey shinning unmercifully at him. Luckily Alex managed to pull Zan’s attentions away from the confrontation, leaving only Logan to support his alpha.

“Oh I’m going to enjoying tearing that smug smile from your face Evans.” Michael snarled.

“I’m done cowering before you, I am not afraid of you or your goons, so let’s end this already.” Max answered with a low growl.

They were about to leap into action when small body propelled itself in between them, “WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE!”

The two males staggered back and both stood in awe at the sight before them, Liz stood barely bigger than a child in all her 5 nothing glory. Her eyes burned with anger flashed briefly a luminescent green, “Have you both forgotten where we are at?” she hissed through clenched teeth and motioned to their surroundings.

As both males looked around, they quickly realized the error in their judgment, already the halls were filled with spectators each enthralled by the scene that played out before them. Begrudgingly Michael backed down first, “This aint over Evans.” He spat while pushing past both Liz and Max.

Once he was out of sight Max relaxed, he turned to find Liz glaring at him, “Liz back off, this has to happen.” He told her evenly and grabbed his back pack off the floor.

She was about to lay into him, about rules and stupid male egotistical behavior, when she felt Alex’s hand restrain her by the shoulder. She turned and watched him shake his head no, ‘Liz don’t’. Biting down on her lip she repressed the urge to scream and simply sighed instead, “Max…I’m sorry…”

Her soft whisper had him stopping in his tracks, he’d been fully prepared to fight her tooth and nail on this, but instead he turned to find her calm and concerned. “Liz don’t please, just don’t…” he barely managed to get those few words out before the bell sounded. He knew it was unfair to leave things the way they were between them, but he just didn’t have the energy, so he simply walked away.

End Flashback…

Shaking himself from his thoughts Max decided that enough was enough, he’d been in love with Liz since before he could remember, but it was always nothing more than an impossible dream, due to his half breed status. But now, now she was literally giving him everything he’d ever wanted, and out of fear he was pushing her away. ‘Snap out of it Evans, before you lose her for good.’ He berated himself. Then with one final push he took off in search of the only person that his heart would ever love…Liz.
