"Did Nacedo tell you anything about a human-born second?" Max asks me as he turns to me. I don't understand what's going on. A human born second. Nasedo never said anything about a human born second. I shake my head. "No Max, Nasedo never said anything to me about a human born second." I say. This is all to weird. They need our second to help their second. 'But where is there second?' I wonder to myself. "If Nasedo knew I wonder why he didn't tell us?" I say aloud, without really realizing it.

"Nacedo was our protector," I explain. I have no idea what he was called on Antar and I don't suppose these three would know what Riverdog had named him. But he never mentioned any human born member of our group to her. In fact, he'd repeatedly referred to "the Royal FOUR." It just makes no sense...

"He raised Tess separately. The rest of us met him less than a year ago. He died shortly afterwards."

Zan

My double began firing questions our way, "What's the matter with your second? How do you expect us to help you? How would we find my Second? If she were born human, would she still be a clone of yours? Why wasn't she a hybrid like the rest of us?"

This was the tricky part, how to find Max's Second. I didn't exactly expect her to be Serena's lookalike, partly because I couldn't imagine more than one Serena. But who knew? Anything was possible in our world.

Lonnie, who had stepped to my side, pointed out that Serena needed help from her double, not them, before moving on to voicing exactly what had been in my mind. Then she asked if there was anyone else in their circle.

I was about to pick up from there when Ava, who appeared to be losing her patience, beat me to it. “Okay you’ve never met anyone, where it was like you just knew them from somewhere else? Like you recognized something in them at first sight, like you just knew?...”

For some reason, Ava's words made my heart ache and that was a bad thing because I didn't need my heart aching. The first time I'd set my eyes on Serena, I'd felt a strange feeling in the pit of my stomach. I remembered the time when I'd watch her do the ballet, graceful and captivating. Ballet was a soft, gentle thing, something I never cared for. But Serena's passion for it had been so strong, I just stayed the whole way. No. No, no. I was a man and didn't need raw emotions like heartache. Damn it, Ava!

I watched for Max's reaction. Wasn't it more than likely that he would have had similar feelings when he'd first come into contact with his Second, if he ever had? Was it too dumb to ask him if he knew a gorgeous, seemingly human girl who just seemed to be his life force?

He seemed to think about it for a while before turning to Ava's dupe. "Did Nacedo tell you anything about a human-born second?" he asked.

Nacedo? Now why didn't that sound the least bit familiar to me? Then again, he was probably their protector and it wouldn't be familiar to me.

"No Max, Nasedo never said anything to me about a human born second. If Nasedo knew I wonder why he didn't tell us?" the blonde seemed to be wondering aloud.

Max quickly explained that this Nacedo character had been their protector. Bingo. Well, he was dead now- we wouldn't be able to dig anything out of him. And this reminded me that having Aeidon around would probably be a good idea, since he always seemed to have a lot of answers.

"The dude's dead, so does it matter?" I questioned. "Right now, we need to find your Second. The dead guy's not going to help any. Now fellas, I need to have a chat with Maxie boy here for a sec."

I beckoned him to a corner and, folding my arms across my chest, got straight to the point. "See here. I'm no expert, but if I'm right, I'd be guessing that you would already know your Second without being awares of it. Number one, your Second's gotta be a she. Number two, she would have been born human, but you know that. And number three, she's probably - now this is a wild guess - someone real close to you. Anyone - anyone at all - fit the description?"

I hadn't actually planned on asking Max that, but if it would help, if it would offer us a clue, even the slightest hint, about who his Second might be, I was all for it. I wasn't exactly sure if I had come across as desperate - which, in truth I was - but I didn't really care. Anything to get the real Serena back.

Zan becons me to join him in a corner for a private conversation. I automatically bristle at the way he's trying to direct me and it doesn't help when he calls me "Maxie."

I cross my arms and glare at him. He adopts a similiar posture but he speaks first. His voice is different than before, almost desperate.

"Absolutely," I tell him coldly. "You're talking about my mom." Well, adopted mom. I know that's not really who he's looking for but she does fit all the criteria he's proposed. I'm sure he's thinking of someone our own age, but I'm not real happy at the way he's acting here. But before he turns purple, I say. "Listen up. The name is Max or Maxwell. Not Maxie. You got that, Zannie?"

"You're talking about my mom," Max answered, rather sarcastically. Jackass. He didn't understand how pressing the situation was. If only Serena could show up so that he could see for himself.

My double continued, sounding ticked off, "Listen up. The name is Max or Maxwell. Not Maxie. You got that, Zannie?"

I raised an eyebrow and then couldn't help but laugh. I didn't care what his name was, but if that was what he wanted, so be it. I resisted the urge to grab him at the collar. But violence wasn't an option at the moment. "Fine." I said.

After a moment of staring cold and hard at each other, I went back to the real issue, leaning closer and looking him in the eye. Strange how I was sort of looking into my own eyes; if it hadn't been for the whole Serena thing, I would have had all my attention focused on how weird it was. But there were more important things at the moment. "Now think harder, Max," I hissed, injecting exaggerated emphasis into his name. "This is no joke."

~Serena~

She crawled for a ways until she could hear voices talking beneath her and she stopped for a moment to listen to the voices talking below. She closed her eyes as the voices seemed to get more aggravated with each other. One side wanting answers, one side wanting action.

She put her hands over her ears in an effort to block them out but it didn’t block out the voices in her head. She jumped back down to the floor. Serena put her hands back to her ears as a million voices screamed at once, crying out for help and it was then that Serena screamed right along with them her voice ringing out through the UFO Center.

I cool off a bit as Zan seems to accept what I've told him. He's still urgent and doesn't seem to care about the rest of it. I do understand that. If it was any of my friends that were in trouble, I know I'd be half out of my mind trying to help them. I have been, when it was Michael who was sick, or when Liz was shot...

"I don't know what to tell you, Zan," I say, treating his question with more respect. "There was someone like that -- someone very special. But she -- It couldn't be her." I tell him. He's a stranger, even if he is wearing my face. I'm not going to tell him that I found my girlfriend in bed with another guy. I haven't even told Isabel about that.

Then, while I'm still trying to figure out what else to tell Zan, I hear a scream from outside. A girl's scream. It sounds almost like -- "LIZ!"

I turn and start sprinting up the stairs without another thought for Zan or his carbon-copy pod-squad. I see her there, on the ground. The clothes are odd, like Zan's and I can't see her face, but the shape and size and the flowing brown hair are unmistakeable.

"Liz," I breathe, kneeling near her. Only last month I would have swept her into my arms without a second thought, but now I'm a little afraid of what she'll think, although I still want to help. I can't see her in pain. I extend a hand towards her and ask. "What happened?"

"I don't know what to tell you, Zan. There was someone like that -- someone very special. But she -- It couldn't be her."

It sure as hell could be.

But before either of us could say more, a loud, piercing scream echoed throughout the building, followed by more. Max, immediately adopting an alarmed look, dashed towards the source. A name had escaped his lips in a frantic moment. Liz.

I hurried after him and, though I was worried, I was almost certain that Serena wasn't hurt; it had to be another one of her fits.

"Liz. What happened?" Max asked desperately as he knelt by Serena's side.

Instinctively, I burst out, "NO!"

I was partly worried about her hurting others, in this case Max, whom we needed at the moment. But I feared more that Serena would get harmed, intentionally or unintentionally, and so wanted no strangers near her. Maybe I was being overprotective, but caring for her was just like caring for a kid.

"No, don't touch her," I said more calmly this time, taking the squirming Serena by the shoulders and trying in vain to keep her still. I looked deep into the pools of her eyes, hoping, as I always did, to find some sign of recognition, some proof that she was not lost completely, but I saw nothing. "Ssh, ssh. Nassan’eera," I whispered, using the Antarian word that always calmed her down.

Name: Raith

Age: 17

Personality: Raith can be quiet gruff and out right rude sometimes. He has a temper and has no qualms about holding anything back. He likes the idea of having power over people and often likes to play with their minds along with Lonnie. Deep down, even he doesn't know it yet, Raith has compassion. It just takes that 'special someone' to bring it out IF he finds her.

Background: Raith grew up with Zan, Ava, and Vilondra in New York's sewers. He quickly learned to fend for himself and often was mean to Ava. He doesn't care for Serena just for the fact it makes Zan so damned happy and sappy and she's in the postition he thinks is rightfully his.

Raith is with Vilondra at the moment but not because he loves her. She's great in bed and they have a good time together. Her biggest turn on is power and he makes sure he's around everytime she gets a taste of it just to reap the benefits. He knows that there is more in her head than she lets on but keeps his mouth shut. He doesn't want to ruin a good thing...yet.

Raith has his own agenda. He thinks he should've been Zan's second and would really like to knock Serena off the list, but he can't kill her. He knew that would bring Zan's wrath down on him so he bides his time. With Serena the way she's become, he's sort of stepped up into her spot, to help 'council' Zan. He wants to keep her this way, and keeps an eye out for a way to spoil Zan and Ava's plan to get her back to the way she was. Raith is a lot smarter than he lets on.

Raith

Seeing the duplicates was a real trip. The faces were the same...but nothing like us. They were all prepped out and polite. I had to hold back a laugh when we approached and they got their eyes full.

I stood back while the others spoke. I took the time to get a good look around and evaluate what we were up against. Lonnie thinks that it'll be easier to overcome our dups and make them do what we want but I've got other ideas. Yeah, they look like goody-two-shoes but if they know who their second is, they aren't going to put her life in jeopardy too quickly. Which is fine with me. I'd rather leave her this way. Her condition worries Zan so much that he has trouble making decisions sometimes. With just a little push at the right moment I can usually get him to see things my way. But it's subtle. The last thing I need is for Serena to have a clear moment and kill me.

I watch my duplicate and can't help looking to the girl standing with him. She's pretty if you like the eccentric type. What drew my attention was her puffy red lips along with the long trim legs her short skirt showed off.

Once Zan pulled his clone Max away to talk I approached my dup and the girl with a smirk.

"She looks like a wild thing in bed man. Mind sharing?" I make eye contact with her and my smirk turns into an almost charming smile. I sense a shift behind her and know that he was about to go all protective, I've seen his type before. But that all get disturbed by a lound scream echoing throughout the building.

Max and Zan rush forward while the rest of us follow. I linger further back to observe. Used to her 'antics' I know it's Serena and seeing her body crouched on the ground I know I'm right. I lean against a rail, cross my arms and watch the show.

Okay, honestly I'm trying to follow along with their convo ,but it's really hard. They keep throwing in these alien names and ranks. Thus far the only useful info I've picked up is that Michael has been demoted from Max's general to what? Max's lackey.

Nope. Not my man. Even if he wasn't a big wig up there, he is absolutely top notch down here. I am proud of him whatever part of the thingy he is. Apparently I've been in my own little world in a while because when I look up Space Boy's double is looking at me funny.

Oh my gosh! Do I have something on my face? How embarassing. Thats gotta be it. Whoa thats a pretty intense look he just shot me. Oh please don't let him... yep he walks up to me smirking and asks Michael,

"She looks like a wild thing in bed man. Mind sharing?"

Uh oh. Michael tenses. I can tell even from up here. Not good. I should have never had those impure thoughts. What if he has the freaky alien mind reading voodo? Ahhh. Surely not. I feel extremely guilty ,but what can I do? Every girl has the fantasy of doing it with her boyfriend and his naughty twin. Right? Okay maybe not. Nevertheless I would never do that to Michael.

There's about to be a confrontation when I hear shrieks from the opposite side of the room.

From my angle all I see is hair, "Liz?" :D
