Prologue & Chapter 1

Post by Skittles1983 »

This Love

Prologue

Liz Parker was truly alone for the first time in her life. Maria DeLuca, Liz's best friend, had left the day before on a plane to California to attend UCLA. Liz's parents and Maria's Mom had just gotten into a U-Haul and were on their way to move across country to Roswell, New Mexico and open up a Bed and Breakfast with a Spa in it. Liz had opted ot stay in Boston and attend Boston University. Never in her life had she been alone before. She always had Maria, her parents, and Maria's Mom.

Liz watched the U-Haul truck disappear down the road and then turned around and walked up the stairs and into her brownstone apartment. Liz flopped down on the couch and turned on her tv. She looked around her apartment and sighed at the quietness.

"So," she said aloud to herself, "this is going to be my life for the next four years."

Chapter 1

Four Years Later

Liz was excited and anxious, so she couldn't sleep. She got up at 4 AM and made sure everything was ready for the movers. They arrived at 6 AM and had everything in the truck and were on the road by 7:45 AM.

Liz looked around at her empty apartment. This had been her home for the past four years. She had enjoyed living here and was glad that she stayed in Boston. She had made some great friends and went out with several guys but hadn't found anyone worth while. She missed Maria and her parents and Maria's Mom and couldn't wait to arrive in Roswell.

She had decided to take a few weeks off and get settled in to her new apartment with Maria. Her new job at Roswell Hospital didn't start until the end of July, so that officially gave her six weeks off. She had had several job offers from research teams across the United States but already knew her heart was in Roswell. So, when Roswell Hospital offered her a job as an assistant to the Head Researcher of the Cancer Wing, she jumped at the chance.

Liz took one last look around her apartment and headed out to the cab that was waiting to take her to the airport. When she arrived at the apartment and made her way through security, she grabbed a cup of coffee, a bagel, and made her way to the lounge where her gate was. She settled into a chair, pulled out the most recent book she was reading, and waited for her flight to board.

Thanks for the feedback. Here's the next part.

This Love

Chapter 2

The Roswell sun was bright. Liz pulled her sunglasses on as she looked around for Maria. She rolled her eyes as she leaned up against the building and pulled her luggage out of people’s way. Maria was late as usual. Fifteen minutes later Liz was getting pissed. She whipped her cell phone out of her purse, but before she could dial Maria’s number, someone caught her attention. She watched a jeep pull up, but she wasn’t concerned with the jeep. She was concerned with the occupant of the jeep. He was definitely hot, beyond hot. He was had dark hair and a well defined body. She could see his biceps and triceps flex as he put his jeep in park. She couldn’t see his eyes because they were covered by sunglasses and that disappointed her. Her cell phone started to ring, which brought her out of her thoughts. She looked down and saw Maria’s name scrolling across the screen.

“Maria, where are you?”

“Is that how you answer your phone? No hello Maria, how are you Maria…”

Liz cut her off, “Okay, hi Maria, How are you and where are you?”

Maria chuckled, “I actually got called in on an emergency, but I sent someone to get you. Our parents are away at a conference, so I sent Zan. He’s tall and good looking.” The guy in the jeep went through Liz’s mind and she rolled her eyes at her own foolishness. Of course it wasn’t him.

“Okay,” Liz said, “how do I know who he is?”

“You won’t. I gave him your picture.”

And before Liz could respond, her skin prickled and she felt someone behind her. She heard a soft, masculine voice say, “Liz Parker?”

Liz turned around and was met with the most beautiful eyes she had ever seen. They were a mix of amber, golden, and gray. Absolutely stunning. Liz realized she was staring and blushed.

“Um, yeah. That’s me.” She said to him.

Into the phone she said, “Maria, he found me. I’ll see you in a little while.”

She hung up her phone, threw it in her purse, took a calming breath, and stuck out her hand. His grip was firm as he said, “Zan Evans.”

Liz smiled at him shyly, “Liz Parker, as you already know.”

Zan laughed and it was music to her ears, “Yes. I actually know your parents too. I’ve heard a lot about you from them and Maria.”

Liz blushed, “Well, you can’t believe everything they told you.”

He smiled at her, “Here let me help you.”

And he picked up her two biggest bags, and she followed him with her duffle bag and carry on back. He threw all of them into the back of the jeep and then opened the door for her. He helped her in and then got into the drivers side.

The ride to her and Maria’s apartment was pretty much silent except for the music blasting from the speakers. Once he helped her into the apartment, he showed her around. Liz remembered Maria mentioning Zan on several occasions to her. She knew Maria loved him like a brother. Liz could tell he spent a lot of time around the apartment because he was at ease. When they came to her room he hesitated then turned to her.
“Um, Maria told me how much you liked astrology. So, when she was decorating your room we repainted it. If you don’t like it, I will redo it anyway you want.” Liz just nodded and waited for him to open the door. He opened it and allowed her walk through first. Liz was in awe.

The walls were a dark blue color and the ceiling was a midnight blue and had hundreds of tiny stars sparkling on it. She could make out the different constellations. She saw a king sized bed in the middle of the room. There were two huge book cases on one wall. On another wall was a floor-to-ceiling mirror and a desk. Another wall had a big dresser, a closet and a door. She walked further into the room and saw that the door led to a bathroom with a huge tub, separate shower, a sink, a closet, and a toilet. Liz looked back up at the ceiling then looked to Zan. She found him watching her intently.

“Did you do this all by yourself? I can’t imagine Maria having this much patience.”

Zan laughed, “Yeah. I painted it and set everything up. My sister, Isabelle, picked out the furniture, but I did all the placements. If you want anything redone I can change it. I shouldn’t have taken the liberty of just setting up your room for you. It’s actually why I was late today. I’m sorry…”

Liz stopped his rambling, “It’s okay. I love it. It’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me. It’s beautiful. I can’t believe the ceiling. How long did this take you?”

“A few months. I had to research the constellations and then figure out the layout of the ceiling and the stars themselves. I’m so happy and relieved you like it.”

Liz smiled at him, “I love it.”

They stared at each other for a moment. Before either could say anything they heard Maria’s voice float in from the front of the apartment, “I’m home.”

They made their way out and the girls shared a strong embrace. Zan left them to catch up. On his way out Maria said, “Zan, don’t forget tonight we’re having dinner at the Parkers. Liz, your parents, my mom, and some close friends are all gathering at your parents for a welcome dinner. Then we’re gonna hit a club to really celebrate.” Liz laughed and was anxious to hear Zan’s response.

“Of Course Maria. I wouldn’t miss it for anything.” And he left with wink towards Liz.

chapter 3

Post by Skittles1983 »

Hello Everyone....sorry this took longer than expected. Thank you for all the wonderful feedback. Please let me know what you think of this chapter. Thanks, Amy

Chapter 3

Later that night

Everyone was gathered at the Parkers. Liz’s parents and Maria’s Mom had gotten back from their conference a few hours after Liz had arrived. Liz spent the afternoon unpacking her clothes and the boxes she had had shipped to the apartment. Liz had showered and threw on a pair of jeans and a fitted white tank top with a pair of pink flip flops. She threw her hair up and had gone to see her parents and Maria’s Mom with Maria.

Liz was introduced to a lot of new people and hoped she could remember all their names. She looked around the dinner table and mentally tried to put together faces and names. The beautiful, blonde across from her was Isabelle Evans. She knew that that was Zan Evans’ sister. Then next to Isabelle was her fiancé Alex Whitman. Next to Alex sat Isabelle and Zan’s parents: Diane and Phillip. Next to Phillip was Zan. At the end of the table was her mother while her father was at the other end. Liz was sitting next to Maria. Next to Maria was her boyfriend Michael. Next to Michael was Maria’s Mom, Amy and then there was Amy’s boyfriend, Jim. Liz remembered that Maria had mentioned her mother was dating the sheriff of Roswell. Liz continued to eat her food in silence as she listened to all of the conversations around her. She was proud of herself for remembering everyone’s name.

After dinner she helped her parents clean up. She was looking at pictures on the mantle piece when she felt someone behind her. She turned around only to find herself staring into those beautiful amber eyes. She smiled up at Zan as he smiled down at her.

“It’s a little overwhelming, huh?” Zan questioned her.

Liz blushed, “Yeah, I just want to remember everyone’s names.”

Zan laughed and Liz joined him.

She realized that he was holding two cups of coffee and smiled up at him.

He handed her a cup and said, “Light and sweet.”

“How did you know?” she asked amused.

“Maria.” was all he said.

They both laughed again.

They joined the others and Liz started to open up a little more. She really liked everyone she met. As it got later in the evening Maria rounded up Liz, Zan, Alex, Isabelle and Michael. Goodbyes were shared as everyone headed back to Liz and Maria’s to get ready.

The guys waited patiently for the girls to come out. Isabelle came out first dressed in a tight pair of pinstripe pants. She had on a white lace camisole that showed just enough skin. Her blonde hair was pulled up into a tight ponytail. She received a look of pure desire from Alex as she winked at him and took her place beside him.

Maria came out next. She had on a pair of red Capri pants and a black fitted ribbed tank top. She left hair down and had straightened it. Michael’s eyes followed the curves of her body appreciatively and she gave him a quick peck on the lips.

Next, it was Liz’s turn to come out. Liz was dressed in a pair of black Capri dress pants that flared out below her knees. She had on a hot pink halter top. She wore no make up except for a little lip gloss and she left her hair down and in curly waves. Maria made her turn around and when she did she heard a gasp from Maria. As she turned back around she found Maria’s eyes wide with shock.

Before Maria could question her, Liz decided to just answer the questions she knew were coming, “I got it about a month ago. I went with Kailee to this well-known, very reputable place called The Horizon. I was waiting to tell you, because I knew you would flip because I got it down without you. I wanted to get something in memory of my grandmother, and the first thing I thought of was angel wings. It took three hours and it hurt like hell.”

“Well, I guess that answers all my questions.” Maria laughed and then walked over to Liz to inspect the tattoos. On each shoulder blade of Liz’s back was a pink angel’s wing outlined in gray. They looked so real, that Maria touched them just to make sure that Liz wasn’t really sprouting the six inch wings.

Everyone complimented her and she blushed. Liz never really liked being the center of attention. So, she turned the attention back onto Maria and Isabelle and complimented their outfits. The group took Zan’s SUV to Club AMG. Once they pulled up and got into line Maria announced that Zan was Liz’s date for the night.

Liz turned to Zan and leaned up to whisper in his ear, “You don’t have to listen to her. Go do your thing and have a good time. You don’t need to babysit me.” Silently she prayed he would stay with her the whole night.

Zan smirked down at her and leaned into her to whisper back, “Angel, I wouldn’t leave you alone anyhow. You are my date for the night.”

Liz smiled up at him and felt extremely excited. As they made their way into the club Liz found herself being pulled on to the dance floor by Zan.

Four Hours Later

Maria and Liz tiredly made their way up to their apartment. Maria flopped on the couch while Liz grabbed them both bottles of water.

She handed a bottle to Maria and took a sip from her own, “So, are you trying to set me up with your friend Zan.”

Maria smirked at her, “I don’t think I need to do any match making. He seems to be into you without any help from me.”

Liz laughed, “Gee thanks.”

“That’s not what I mean. Listen, Zan’s been through a lot these past couple of years.”

This piqued Liz’s curiosity, “Oh yeah?”

Maria shook her head, “It’s not my story to tell. Just go slow. All I’m going to say is that he hasn’t shown interest in anyone since I met him four years ago. He has gone out on a few dates, but nothing ever comes from them. And, I definitely haven’t seen him look at anyone they way he looks at you. Isabelle said she hasn’t seen him look at anyone that way since Ava.”

“Who’s Ava?” Liz asked genuinely curious and also a little jealous.

“I can’t say any more. I’ve already said to much. I’m off to bed. Night Liz.” And with Maria headed to bed leaving Liz alone with thoughts swirling around in her head about Zan and wondering who this Ava woman is.

Hello Everyone! I finished this story. I hope everyone likes it! Thank you for all the wonderful feedback. Please let me know what you think! Thanks, Amy

Chapter 4

The Same Night

Zan tossed and turned in bed. He could not get Elizabeth Parker out of his head. From the moment he saw her, she had invaded his thoughts. He was always curious about her because her parents, Maria, and Maria’s Mom always talked about her, but when he saw her he felt as if a breath of fresh air had gone through him. He wondered if she really liked her room that he had painstakingly painted.

Thoughts of Liz swirled around in his head. He turned on his back and stared up at his ceiling. He turned his light on and pulled out his most current book he was reading, “The Brothers Karamazov” by Fyodor Dostoevsky. He hadn’t been reading too much lately because painting Liz’s room had taken up most of his time. As he opened the book to the page he had been reading last a picture fell out.

Zan’s breath hitched in his throat. He picked it up and stared at the beautiful girl in the photo. Her hair was blonde but it had strawberry pink highlights. Her eyebrow was pierced and their was a tiny diamond chip in her nose. Zan traced the outline of her face with his hands. He closed his eyes and in his mind heard her laughter. He could also hear her disapproving of the way his life had turned out right now. She had wanted him to date other people and move on but he couldn’t. Liz popped into his mind. Physically, she was the complete opposite of the blonde woman in the picture. However, Zan knew that they both had kind and loving hearts. He knew the moment he met Liz Parker he felt a spark for her. He hadn’t felt anything for anyone since Ava. He had gone out on a few dates, but they were just to please his parents and Isabelle. He knew they were worried about him. He shook his head as thoughts from the past and present mixed into one. Could he really ask Liz out? Zan decided he couldn’t deal with all of this. He ran a shaky hand through his dark hair and turned his attention to his book, blocking out the thoughts in his mind.

Two weeks Later

Liz watched Zan through her dark sunglasses. Everyone was at her parents house for a picnic. She, Isabelle, and Maria were laying outside tanning. She and Isabelle had gone shopping together and out for a coffee a couple of times and had gotten to know each other well. She liked Alex and Michael too. Liz would sometimes catch Zan staring at her but he would always look away when she made eye contact.

Currently, she was content to just watch him, Alex, and Michael in the pool playing beach ball. She admired the way his biceps and triceps moved under his bronze skin. She got lost in a daydream involving her and Zan in a pool with no one else around. She was so into her daydream that she failed to notice the three men approaching. She realized too late that Alex, Michael, and Zan had planned a sneak attack on the girls. She was in Zan’s arms submerged in water before she realized what had happened. She came up with her arms around his neck laughing. He was laughing too and Liz realized that the sound made her smile.

He winked at her, “You looked a little hot up there. So, I thought maybe I’d help you out.”

Liz blushed and thought, you have no idea just how hot I was up there. She said, “You have no idea.”

They both laughed. When they turned around, with her arms still around his neck and Zan’s arms still cradling her to his body they were met with everyone’s stares focused on them. Zan chose to ignore while Liz just looked questioningly at Maria who winked at her.

A few hours later, Liz was sitting on the swing in the backyard just enjoying watching her new friends and her family. She felt someone grip the chains and push her a little bit. She laughed as she leaned into it and allowed herself to be pushed. She turned her head slightly and smiled at Zan.

“So,” he said, “I have tomorrow off from work. I thought maybe I could take you around. You know, show you some sights, since your job hasn’t started yet.”
Liz nodded, “Sounds great. What time do you want me to meet you and where do you want to meet?”

“How about 9 a.m. and I’ll pick you up at the apartment.”

Liz smiled, “It’s a date.” Then she mentally kicked herself. She could not believe she just said that out loud.

Zan smiled in return, “It’s a date. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He gave her a final push and walked off.

Liz could not believe it.

Chapter 5

Zan knocked on the door for the third time. He couldn’t believe he had really asked out Liz. He didn’t know what came over him. He saw her watching everyone from the swing and he couldn’t help it. He just felt the need to be around her. He was slightly nervous but was starting to wonder where Liz was. He used his spare key to unlock the door to the apartment. He entered and found that it was quiet. He wondered briefly if she had forgotten but quickly dismissed the thought. He could see that she was excited last night. He smiled to himself then called out to Liz. He walked quietly towards her room and pushed the already open door even further open.

He stepped into the room but the sight before him stopped him from going any further. Liz was buried deep into the comforter and sheets that were on the bed. He could barely make out her tiny form but he could see her brown hair sprawled over the pillows beneath her head. He felt himself respond to her and he had the urge to touch her. Before he even knew what he was doing he was next to her and pushing the covers away from her face.

He reached out and stroked her cheek with his knuckles and called her name quietly. He didn’t want to scare her. Slowly her eyes started to open. She smirked at Zan and gazed at him through sleepy eyes. She sat up and stretched.

“Hi.” she said quietly.

“Good Morning.” Zan whispered.

They broke out in laughter and Liz said, “Okay. We don’t need to whisper. I’m so sorry I overslept.”

Zan shook his head dismissively, “Don’t worry about it.”

Liz smiled, “Okay, give me fifteen minutes and I’ll be ready.”

Zan just laughed and said, “Yeah, okay. I know how long you women take.”

Liz rolled her eyes as she got up, “You can wait in here or the living room.”

Zan nodded and watched her make her way into the bathroom.

Ten minutes later, Liz re-emerged from the bathroom. Zan was staring up at the ceiling admiring his work. He looked up at her. She had no make-up and her hair was up in a ponytail. She had on a pair of denim shorts and a blue tank top with a pair of white flip flops. He realized he was staring at her because she blushed and looked down. He mumbled an apology and felt like a fifteen year old again.

Liz nodded, “Um, is this okay. I mean I wasn’t sure what to wear…” she trailed off.

“Oh, yeah it’s fine.” he smiled at her as he stood up and offered her his hand, “Ready?”
Liz grabbed her purse and put her hand in his outstretched one, “Always.”

Six hours later

Liz had never had so much fun in her life. Zan had taken her out to breakfast at a local restaurant that was alien-themed. They had the best omelets according to Zan and he wasn’t kidding. They had followed that by going to the zoo and then an alien museum. They had had lunch somewhere in between and were now headed to Zan’s favorite place. He wouldn’t tell Liz where it was, no matter how hard she tried.

Finally they pulled up to a beautiful, secluded area. Liz looked at Zan as he opened her car door and he flashed her one of his million dollar smiles that she was coming to love. He took her hand and led her down a path. Before she could question him, they came to a clearing in the woods. There in the middle of this forest was a lake. It was beautiful. The sun reflected off of it and it appeared as if hundreds of tiny gemstones where shimmering.

She turned towards Zan, “How did you ever find this place?”

Zan shrugged, “I come out here a lot to think.”

Liz didn’t question him any further, she just nodded.

Zan let go of Liz’s hand, “C’mon.”

Liz watched him curiously as he pulled of his shirt and then shoes, his socks, and his pants. She watched awestruck as he was left standing in a pair of boxer briefs that left nothing to the imagination. She met his eyes and realized she was caught staring. He smirked at her.

She watched him turn away from her and make a mad dash for the water. He waded into the water than turned around and watched her.

She quickly discarded her clothes only to be left in a pair of pink underwear and a pink bra. She was thankful she hadn’t worn anything see-through or a thong. She joined him in the water where they spend the next hour laughing and playing. Zan surprised her by going to the car and getting a blanket and a picnic basket. The spent the rest of the time talking and getting to know each other. They stayed and watched the sunset. Liz was amazed at how breathtaking the sunset was on the water and how the moon played on the water. Eventually, they made their way back to the car and headed home.

Zan walked her to the door. Liz hesitated as she stuck her key in the lock.

“Zan, thank you for today. It was perfect.” Liz said as she turned towards him. She hadn’t realized how close he was standing. She looked up at him.

“You’re welcome. I wouldn’t of wanted to spend it with anyone else.” he leaned down and Liz closed her eyes anticipating the feel of his lips on hers. Instead, she felt his lips graze her cheek. Her eyes flew open but she couldn’t read the expression on his face. He gave her small smile and whispered his goodbye as he retreated down the hallway leaving Liz shocked.

Chapter 6

Three months later

Liz’s new job was going great. She loved her job and her co-workers. She was genuinely happy with life except for Zan. They had continued to hang out and do things together like a couple, but they never talked about their status. Liz had fallen completely in love with him, but she wasn’t sure how he felt. They had kissed a couple of times, but when things would start to get intense Zan always pulled away. Liz couldn’t understand what was wrong. She knew that it had to be something to do with this Ava person, but no one ever mentioned her.

Zan for his part was completely in love with Liz. He had fallen for her but he was still holding on to Ava. He needed to tell Liz everything and see what she said. They were meeting at the lake. It had become a ritual that the two of them would go out there once a week to watch the stars. Zan’s family was so happy for him. They could see how he truly felt about Liz.

The ride to the lake was silent but it wasn’t uncomfortable. They were both lost in their own thoughts. They made their way down to the lake, both knowing the path by heart. Zan spread out a blanket for them and they sat down. Zan looked across at the beautiful woman sitting across from him and then looked out at the setting sun.

Liz’s attention had been on the setting sun, but when she heard Zan sigh she turned towards him. She watching him silently as he pulled a picture out of his pocket. He handed it to Liz and watched her study it.

Liz looked at the woman in the picture. She was beautiful. He short blonde hair had strawberry pink colored highlights. She had her eyebrow and nose pierced but they just added to her beauty. She was smiling brightly at the camera. Liz looked up at Zan slightly confused.

“Ava. Her name is Ava,” Zan’s voice whispered and Liz’s heart dropped but before she could say anything Zan continued, “Her name was Ava. She died four and half years ago.”

Liz’s eyes widened in shock. She watched Zan’s face. He had a faraway expression, so she looked back down at the young beautiful woman staring back at her through bright blue eyes.

Zan continued, “When we were in high school Ava was diagnosed with Cancer. She had treatment and she won. The cancer went away and Ava was in remission. We graduated and started our freshman year of college. I was so in love with her and we thought we had forever on our side. But we were wrong. The cancer came back and spread rapidly.” Zan paused and Liz watched helplessly as silent tears trailed down his face.

“She asked me to leave her. She didn’t want me to see her sick, but I wouldn’t leave her. I stayed with her until her last breath. Some people don’t experience a love like she and I had but we were lucky because we had it. After she died, I shut myself off. Then I met Maria six months later. She helped me through a lot of stuff. I couldn’t get past the fact that Ava died and I was still here. She didn’t get to do a lot of things. She didn’t get her happy ending, her fairy-tale wedding, the American dream of 2.5 kids, a dog, and a white picket fence. How could I go on when she wouldn’t? I didn’t know what I would do. So, I shut off that part of me. I dated, but only to please my parents and Isabelle. I couldn’t tell anyone what I was thinking. I just couldn’t talk about it. Then, I met you. Liz, I fell for you and it scared me. I didn’t know how to deal with all my feelings. Then, I recalled a conversation I had with Ava before she died. I was so focused on her death that I didn’t remember it. She said to me, ‘Zan, you need to live now. Just because I’m not here doesn’t mean you can’t go on. God put me here for a reason.’ And, she was right. God put her here for me. She taught me what true love was and I am lucky to have known her. I’m also lucky because I’ve been blessed with that once in a lifetime love twice. You are my second chance at love. The moment I met you I knew that you were meant for me.” He looked up and took a breath.

He looked at Liz and was surprised to see her wiping tears away. He brushed them away and moved closer to her. He pressed a soft kiss to her lips.

“Zan, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. No one should ever have to live through losing their lover. I’m glad that you shared this with me. I was beginning to wonder what was going on with you. I love you too. Over the past few months I’ve fallen head over heels in love with you.” They smiled at each other through tear filled eyes.

Zan leaned forward and kissed Liz. This time Zan just let their emotions take over and loved Liz with all his heart and soul. Several hours later they made their way back to Liz’s apartment and collapsed into her bed, exhausted.

Just as Liz was drifting off to sleep she heard Zan whisper, “Thank you Ava, for brining another angel into my life.”

She smiled against his chest and fell into a peaceful sleep.

Epilogue

Two years later

The cry of the city like a siren's song
Wailing over the rooftops the whole night long
Saw a shooting star like a diamond in the sky
Must be someone's soul passing by

Zan placed the tulips on the ground. Liz placed the daisies next to the tulips. She knelt down next to Zan and watched him run his hand over the gravestone. They had come here dozens of times over the past two years. Liz had helped Zan heal from losing Ava and their love was stronger than ever. Liz listened as Zan spoke.

These are the streets
Where we used to run where your Papa's from
These are the days
Where you become what you become
These are the streets
Where the story's told
The truth unfolds
Darkness settles in

“Hi Ava, I’m sorry we haven’t visited in a while. Things have been hectic. Our wedding was beautiful and perfect. We spent our honeymoon in Hawaii. Our new house is only two blocks from here. We are actually living in between Michael and Maria and Alex and Isabelle. I know you were with us every step of the way.” He smiled as he stood back up. He glanced down at Liz and she smiled at him.

Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so I can see
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength
To carry on, carry on

“Just give me a minute.” Liz said. Zan nodded and walked a few feet away. He watched Liz’s long hair blow in the slight breeze and he smiled.

Don't wanna be a hero
Just an everyday man
Trying to do the job the very best he can
But now it's like living on borrowed time
Out on the rim, over the line
Always tempting fate like a game of chance
Never wanna stick around to the very last dance
Sometimes I stumble and take a hard fall
Loose hold your grip off the wall

Liz smiled, “Hi Ava. I just wanted you to be the first to know some good news. I know you are watching over us and blessing our home. I haven’t told anyone yet, but we are going to be parents in about eight months. I was thinking that we could name him or her Avery. I can’t wait to see the look on Zan’s face when I tell him.” Liz felt a cool breeze flutter through her hair and over her skin, she smiled.

Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so I can see
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength to carry on
Carry on

Zan watched Liz curiously. He wasn’t sure what she was talking to Ava about but he was content to just watch her. He watched a breeze go through Liz’s hair and saw her smile. He was truly happy and he couldn’t ask for more.

I thought I saw him walking by the side of the road
Maybe trying to find his way home

Liz stood up and smiled up at the sky. She made her way over to her husband and looped her arm through his. She knew that they could get through anything together because their love was solid but also because they had a guardian angel looking after them.

He's here but not here
He's gone but not gone
Just hope he knows if I get lost

Zan pulled Liz closer to his side and they walked home like that. Zan didn’t know what life would bring, but right now he was happy and he had the woman he loved by his side.

Shine your light down on me
Lift me up so I can see
Shine your light when you're gone
Give me the strength to carry on
To carry on
