Jesse's Girl

He rolled over and ran his hand down the cold empty side of the bed...how long has she been gone? What was it now, six months? That was longer than they were together. He rises out of the bed, dressed only in his pajama bottoms, ignoring the chill of the room. It seems like he hasn't been able to get warm, not since the day that she left. Walking to the window he looks out, seeing the stars in a whole new way now. Pressing his head on the cold window, he gently places his hand on the glass, as if to feel her, where ever she is..."Where are you?"

She looks out the window, sighing deeply, wondering, worrying...how long has she been gone from him? It was like a piece of her heart is gone...half of it torn away with each mile they traveled. Pressing her head on the cold window, she gently places her hand on the glass; as if to feel him, where ever he is..."I'm here."

Liz looked back at everyone sleeping in the van, everyone except Isabel; she sat staring out the window, deep in her own thoughts, her hand gently touching the glass as if to say something.

"Max, I'm getting really worried about Isabel...she seems to be slipping further and further away. Isn't there anything we can do? Anyway we can get her to Jesse?"

"Right now I'm afraid that's impossible, you know he's probably being watched...I'm worried about her too." Max looks at Liz loving her more everyday. He couldn't even begin to imagine where he would be right now if it wasn't for her. The sacrifices she made, the chance to become the woman she had always planned to be, was all a dream for her now. Now, she lived on the run with the rest of them, supporting him and all of them like it had always been her destiny. He wonders what he would be like if he had had her torn away from him so soon after starting their life together...he wouldn't be able breathe.

Looking over his shoulder, he sees Isabel trying to keep herself together. "Maybe I can think of something...there has to be a way...I just don't know."

After putting the coffee grounds into the filter, Jesse slowly adds the water to the back of the pot. Flipping the switch, he waits for it to brew. How he misses Isabel's coffee, not always the best, but it was made with love, so he got over the occasional grounds that floated in his cup. Opening the refrigerator he pours a glass of juice, not fresh squeezed anymore, well, maybe that was one thing he didn't really miss. He grins as he starts to pour his coffee, remembering all the memories of the breakfasts she fixed, trying so hard to be the perfect "human" wife. Then, all of the problems stemming from the shooting comes rushing back to him. Slamming his fist on the table, he regrets all of the time they wasted fighting over the family "secret". If only they had that time back...he would show her that it didn't matter to him what she was...she was his wife, his world, nothing could matter more. Looking at the clock, he realized he still had plenty of time for breakfast, but his appetite has been gone for a while, eating only when he had to, just to keep his body going. "Oh well, the sooner I get to work the faster I can throw my thoughts some where else." Picking up his briefcase and his coffee cup he heads out the door.

The morning passed quickly, thankfully. Some days it seemed like the clock stood still, but that usually happened at night as he paced the empty apartment. It was almost lunch time, he was starting to feel the rumblings of the lack of breakfast. "I'm going to the corner to grab a quick hot dog, anyone want to come along?"

"Sure, I'm game! Besides there are a few things I want to run over with you about the Donaldson case." Good old Gary, he was always there when Jesse needed to bounce some ideas off of him, so it was nice to be able to return the favor. He was also the only person that knew why Isabel wasn't here with him. Well, not the "real" reason, just that she was having some family problems that were keeping them apart, that they couldn't be in touch. He hinted, but didn't come right out as say as much, that her family was in the witness protection program. Not really a lie, he just didn't tell him they were being protected from the people that would have normally done the protecting.

"Great, I have an appointment at 2:00, so I guess we better go." They walked out the door of the building that housed their law firm. Looking around, they see their favorite hot dog vendor. Just as they were getting ready to cross the street, Gary grabs his arm. "Hey Jesse, isn't that Isabel? If it isn't her, it could be her twin!" Jesse looks to where Gary is pointing, seeing only a girl with blonde streaked, short hair...she looks like her, but something didn't seem right. Then it hit him, it was the strange piercings and the tattoos. There was no way that was her...was it? "I guess the government will do anything to get the job done."

"Yes, they will. It's what they do best, no matter who gets hurt." Jesse answers sarcastically, not noticing Gary’s strange look. He was too busy trying to figure out who that was. Then from nowhere, he sees a man, with the same piercings and tattoos, it was the Mohawk that threw him. “Michael?”

"Do you know the guy?"

"They say that everyone has a double, but to see that my wife's double and the guy that she calls her adopted brother together is a really weird coincidence." As he watches, the guy with the Mohawk "bumps" into a man, removing the man's wallet from his jacket. The smirk on his face says that this isn't the first time he did this, like it was just part of his every day life. But when he hands it to Isabel and they high five each other, Jesse knows that there must be some kind of mistake.

"I'll be right back; I need to find out what's going on!" He runs across the street, almost getting hit by an approaching car. Keeping his eye on the pair, he sees them duck down an alley. Preparing himself for what might be down there he rounds the corner, but nothing could prepare him for what he would see...Michael had Isabel pressed against the wall, laughing just as he was about to nibble her neck..."Yea, baby! I love those rich dudes, they're so stupid, they don't even know what hit them!"
"Just shut up and come here!" Grabbing his face she starts to kiss him...

Jesse not believing his eyes could only say one thing...

"Isabel...?"

Jesse's Girl (CC/Teen) 6/01 Part 2

Jesse's Girl
Part Two

Max drove around the park for the fifth time, looking for something, he wasn't sure what it was, but he'd know it when he saw it.

"Maxwell, how many times are you going to ride around this park? What's it make, six times now?"

"Only five, I have to find something. I have this feeling we need to be in this one place and I have to find it! This feeling won't leave me alone!” Seeing a picnic table under a tree, he points at it "There, that's it!"

"Max, it's just an ordinary picnic table...what's so special about it?" Maria was looking at Liz hoping to get a clue about what was going on with him.

"Don't look at me, it was his flash."

"This is it, now we wait."

"Wait for what Max, this doesn't make any sense." Isabel was starting to get irritated, she just wanted to be back on the road so she could sleep, that was the only time she didn't feel the pain of not having Jesse here.

"Let's just get out the food and we'll wait...maybe something will happen. Phoenix isn't a bad place, besides this park is off the beaten path, no one will notice us here." Kyle starts unpacking bags of groceries from the deli, but as he does, a police car goes by slowing down to look at the van.

"What was that for? Maxwell, the cops are looking at us, we can't stay here!"

"Michael, we haven’t broken any laws, at least not in this state, so they can't very well haul us in for sitting here eating our lunch."

As they sit there fixing sandwiches, they see a woman with a little girl looking their way. Liz passes a sandwich to Isabel who only shakes her 'no'. "Isabel, you have to eat something...we need you to be strong because we never know what will happen." Passing the plate to her, Liz looks at her pleadingly, "Please, do it for Jesse, he wouldn't want you to get sick..."

Reluctantly, she reaches for the sandwich and Cherry Coke that Liz passes to her. Again the police car goes passed; they look at the group at the picnic table again. "This is really starting to creep me out, how long do we wait?" Michael reaches past Maria for the Tabasco.

"I think it'll be soon, I don't know..."

While they had been talking, they didn't see the little girl come up to them, she politely waited for them to finish their conversation, her mother was still standing far off to the side. Max, finally realizing she was standing there, looks at her and smiles "Can we help you?" She looked like she was about eight or nine with strawberry blonde hair.

She looks at Michael, then Max. Staring at him with so much intensity, Max finally realizes that this is what they're waiting for. "They know you're here...they're hunting you. You aren't safe here...you have to leave as soon as possible, please." She looks deep into Max's eyes making him feel like she can see all the way through him...why did he know this face? He had seen her before, but where?

"Katie, are you done with your business? If you are, I think you need to go home and take a nap." She runs her hand over the top of her daughter's head.

"I'm done, but you have to tell them, they have to know..." She looks at Max again, then walks over to another table and sits down.

"I'm sorry, I hope she isn't disturbing you...this is very important to her..."

"I knew she was coming, I don't know how, but I did." Max looks over his shoulder to the little girl -where does he know her from?

"Almost a year ago she started having dreams, sometimes they would come every night for three nights. She would always insist on finding the people in the dream, to tell them something. It's strange, but she will never tell her father or me what the dreams are or why she has to talk to these people. We must always be away when she talks to them. Last week she started having the dreams again...they have never been this intense before...she hasn't slept for almost three nights. She insisted on staying home from school to come here, to find you. Do you know what she was talking about? Does it make sense to you?"

"Unfortunately, we do. Is there anything we can do for her?" Liz was worried about the little girl; this had to be very hard on her.

"No, nothing...she'll be fine until the next time. I only hope it won't be this bad again." Walking over to Katie, she reaches out her hand. Before Katie will take it, she walks back over to Max "Remember what I said, you must leave." Then she simply turns around and walks back to her mother, taking her hand they start to walk off. Suddenly she looks over her shoulder and waves her free hand and simply says “Thank you."

That's when it hit him, when he knew who she was! He gives her a slight wave then tells her "Thank you."

"I know who she is now! I can't believe it!"

"Max, who is she?" All eyes were on him.

"She was in the hospital that Christmas two years ago, she's one of the kids I healed!"

"Isabel? Is that you?"

Lonnie can feel Rath start to tense, he's ready to throw what ever his powers has to get rid of this guy.
"Chill, Chill. Let's see where this suit is going..." She growls in his ear.

"Do you know Isabel? How is she these days?" Lonnie pushes passed Rath to stand in front of Jesse. "It's been a while since we saw her, so, what's she to you?"

"You're not Isabel?" Thank God, Jesse mumbles under his breath. "What is she to you, how do you know her?"

"Well, you could say we're like two peas in a pod...if you get my drift." She pops her chewing gum, waiting to see if he would catch on to what she said. She elbows Rath; he just stands there smirking at Jesse.

"Two peas in a p...Oh my God, you're like them...? There's more of you...?" Jesse was trying to compose himself; he knew what they could be capable of. Rath walks over to Jesse, pointing his finger into Jesse's chest.

"Okay, dude, now it's your turn-who are you and what do you know?"

"I...I'm her husband and I know everything. Or at least I thought I knew everything..." He starts shaking his head, what else didn't she tell him. Suddenly Gary comes around the corner.

"Hey Jesse, is everything okay? H..Hi, Isabel?"

"Why does everyone think I'm her? Sorry, I ain't Miss Goody Two Shoes, at least not in this life." She looks at Rath and they start to laugh, an almost evil laugh. "You know, that kind of makes us family...we're cousins, I guess you could say. We kinda hatched at the same time, we all did, right Rath?"

"Word! Come on let's get out of dis alley, I need something to eat. What about you 'Cousin Jesse' you want to join us?" Smirking at Jesse, he reaches over to grab Lonnie, but she pushes him away.

Gary was starting to get an uneasy feeling; standing in this alley with these people was giving him the creeps. "Huh, Jesse, we need to get back to work. You do have that appointment and we have to go over the details of it."

"Oh, yea, right. I do have to go...here is my card, my cell number is on it...give me a call tonight and maybe we can get together and discuss family." Jesse reaches in his jacket pocket and pulls out a business card with his cell phone number on it.

"Discuss family business...yea right. What evea makes you happy man." Lonnie starts to laugh; it was a deep, throaty laugh, the kind that would only make you think of evil. "Come on Rath, let's let da man go back to work. We will be in touch..." With that she reaches up and grabs Jesse's face and plants a rough kiss on his mouth, then looks at Gary. "You could say we're kissing cousins." And winks at him.

Jesse and Gary watch the pair leave the alley. "What was that?"

"Gary, I have no idea, but I can't wait to hear what Isabel has to say about this one..." They turn to head back to the office.

Around the corner, Lonnie looks at Rath. "This could be just what we need, Nicholas will be begging to have this guy all tied up on a silver platter."

As they hurriedly pack up the leftovers, Maria grabs the garbage to put in the can. "Wait Maria...if they are looking for us, then everything is fair game for them. We can't throw this stuff away, they could use it as evidence..."

"What, how? It's only garbage." Maria looked at Liz thinking she had read too many conspiracy stories.

"DNA, it doesn't take much...remember how I got Max's cells in science class that time?"

"Oh...Ohhhh!" She quickly grabs the stuff out of the can, double bagging it so it didn't smell. "We can toss it once we're far from here, right?"

"I think we'll be safe then."

Two hours later they are driving down the road, not knowing where they're going...again. Suddenly Isabel jumps up, waking herself from her nightmare. "Jesse's in trouble, I mean big trouble!"

"Trouble as in the FBI has him or trouble as in alien trouble?"

"Alien trouble, really bad alien trouble. Max, what are we going to do?"

"We do what we have to do...we go to Boston!"

Jesse's Girl (CC/Teen) 6/02 Part 3 ~ 4 A/N

Post by roswellbrat »

A/N ~ In one scene in this part I have included a direct quote from a scene from Roswell ~ No infringment was meant.

Jesse's Girl
Part Three

As they traveled down the road Isabel stared out the window watching the mile markers pass, each one taking them closer to Jesse. Why can't we get there faster? She thinks. Looking around the van, everyone seems to be lost in their own little world; Michael and Maria are in the front, Michael driving. Kyle was trying to stay awake and read another of his books about Buddha; Well I guess that's better than some of those magazines he likes to read. Isabel thinks. Then she looks at Max and Liz, they're stretched out on the couch in the back, Liz is laying in front of Max, his arm draped protectively over her, whispering to each other. I can't stand this not knowing, maybe if I get some sleep the time will go faster. She tries to get comfortable but it just wasn't happening...

"Max, I'm sorry..." Liz whispers, trying not to disturb the others.

Max shifts positions; looking down at her, he brushes a stray hair off her face. "Sorry for what, what did you do?"

"For giving you such a hard time that Christmas...maybe it was meant to be, you know, saving those kids might have all been part of a bigger plan we didn't know about then. Do you think she was supposed to be able to warn us?"

"I don't know, I just knew then that I couldn't leave and not do whatever I could. You don't have to apologize...you were only saying what you felt." He leans over and kisses her forehead. "Now get some sleep, I'll be needing you to ride shotgun in a few hours." As she snuggles down into his arms, Max looks over at Isabel, he could tell she was trying to put on a good show but he knew what was in her heart. He sighs, pulls Liz closer and closes his eyes to sleep.

Jesse kept looking at the clock...still no call from his new "family" members. Maybe they were just trying to spook him, that they weren't really interested in anything he had to say. "Yea right, who am I trying to kid?" He said to his reflection in the bedroom mirror. Walking into the bathroom, he turns on the shower. Looking down at the floor he remembers another conversation with Isabel in their bathroom...

JESSE: Your dad introduced me to some new clients as his son-in-law.

ISABEL: This floor is way too hard.

JESSE: Do you think I should start calling him dad? Ha! That is too weird. I won't do it.

ISABEL: We could use a blanket. I'll be right back.

JESSE: Hey, where are you going?

ISABEL: To get a blanket.

JESSE: Why?

ISABEL: So we can have sex.

JESSE: In here?

ISABEL: Yes. It's tradition that when a couple moves into their new place, they make love in every room of the house.

JESSE: Ok. Can I finish flossing my teeth? Oh! Before I forget, your dad…

“I don’t care about tradition; I just want you here. I need to have some answers…I just need you here…I just need you.” He sighs, shakes his head and gets into the shower.

“When do you think we’ll get there? I don’t know how much longer I can take this. Isabel is driving everyone crazy.”

Michael was putting gas in the tank; Maria was leaning on the side of the van. “She’s worried about her husband. I mean you figure, her track record with men hasn’t been too good in the past, what with Alex…” Maria cringes at the sound of her friend’s name. “Sorry, and Grant. So, with her having those dreams, this whole alien vs. her men thing is bound to have her spooked.” As he puts the gas cap back on, Max, Liz and Kyle come out of the carry out. “Did you get the Tabasco? We’re almost out.”

“No problem, here!” Max throws a bottle at him; Michael catches it just before it hits the van.

“Great arm you have there Maxwell, next time, let the jock throw it.”

“Haven’t you heard? I’m not a jock anymore; I gave that up to run with the Alien Invasion.” Kyle opens the door of the van to put the things from the carry out inside, only to find Isabel curled up in a ball on the couch, crying.

“Iz…” Max goes to get into the van.

Liz gently grabs his arm, “Max, let me and Maria handle this, I think it’s time for a girls only talk.” She gives him a slight smile and a nod. “It’ll be okay, I think I know where she’s coming from…”

“Are you sure?” Liz nods, Max kisses her cheek. “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.” She touches his face. “Maybe you guys can take a walk, give us fifteen minutes, okay?” Max nods and they walk off, not sure where they were going to walk to.

Maria and Liz climb into the van, closing the door behind them. “Isabel, everything will be okay.” Liz reaches to her, taking her into her arms and letting her cry.

“How did you stand it?” Isabel asks through her tears.

“Stand what?”

“When Max was gone, when he was in the white room…how did you stand not knowing what was happening to him?”

“But you worried about him too, he’s your brother.” Liz wasn’t sure where Isabel was going with this.

“I never thought…I mean he IS my brother and I thought that no bond was greater…but this is so much more, I don’t know. It’s like part of my heart is gone and I don’t know if I can keep it beating much longer. Is that what you felt about Max when Pierce had him?” Liz nods. “Oh God Liz, I am so sorry for not realizing what you were going through!” She hugs Liz, feeling at last like they were really a family.

There was a knock on the van door. “Is it okay to come in now? It looks like rain and I think we need to be going. Besides, I found out we should be there before he leaves work today.”
Isabel pulls open the door, looks at her brother, surprising him by looking almost back to normal. “Well, what are you waiting for, let’s go!”

Jesse sat in his office still waiting for the call. He couldn’t concentrate on the brief before him, everything kept running together. A knock on the door got his attention. “Can I come in?”

“Sure Gary, but don’t expect too much from me, I just can’t seem to get myself together.”

“No call, huh?” Jesses shakes his head. “Well Jess, what do you have planned for the holiday weekend? I mean we have Monday off, how about some golf?”

“No, I think I’ll stay home and try to catch up on some of this stuff. I’m just not in the partying mood.”

Looking at his watch, Gary sees it’s almost time to go home. Slapping Jesse on the shoulder, he says “Well, if you change you’re mind, call me. We’ll be having that cookout on Monday and you know you’re always welcome.”

“Thanks, man, but not this time.” After Gary leaves the room, Jesse stands up to get his things together. Putting all the paperwork he would need in his briefcase, he gets ready to leave.

“Steph, I’m going to go ahead and head home. Have a great weekend!”

“Night Mr. Ramirez, you have a great weekend too. Do you have any plans for the holiday?”

“No, I think this will be a working weekend.”

“I hope not, you know what they say about all work…”

“Night, Steph.” He smiles at her, she smiles back. Too bad he’s married, she thinks and gives a big sigh.

Jesse pushes the button on the elevator that goes to the parking garage, when the door opens he gets in.

The bell dinged, signaling that the door would be opening. When the doors open, Liz, Max, Michael, Maria and Isabel get off the elevator. Looking at Liz and Maria they decide it would be best if just two of them approached the receptionist…

The bell dinged, signaling that the door would be opening. When the doors open, Jesse is just about to step into the underground parking garage, but he begins to have this feeling of foreboding, like something isn’t right. Out of the corner of his eye he sees the approach of a boy, maybe sixteen years old…

“So, this is the thing that the princess left Kivar for? Whatever was she thinking?” The boy walks over to Jesse looking him up and down. In the shadows, Jesse sees two familiar figures. Lonnie is standing near Jesse’s car, swaying from side to side, an evil look on her face. Rath isn’t far away, waiting for an opportunity to “take care” of Jesse, given the opportunity.

“What does Kivar want with that one; he knows he really wants me. I’m Vilandra, not her.”

“No, you’re just half the woman she is. But that’s okay, when Kivar gets what he wants…” Nicholas walks over to Lonnie. “I get what I want, just this once I won’t mind for second best.”

“In your dreams, little boy!” She gets ready to blast him.

“Don’t even think about it!” Pointing his hand at her, she flies against the wall. “Just remember whose side you’re on.”

“If you two don’t stop dis dancin’ around, wonder boy is gonna get away!” Rath points at Jesse, just as he was trying to head for the stairs.

“Silly man, hasn’t he learned anything yet?” Nicholas points his hand at Jesse, binding his hands with an invisible rope.

“What do you think you’re doing to me? If I’m not at work tomorrow, they’re going to know something is wrong!” Jesse yells, struggling to get out of the ropes.

“Do you think we’re stupid? I’ve lived on this planet for fifty years, and you stupid people have holidays for everything – they won’t even begin to miss you until Tuesday, if then. Right Rath?”

Doing a perfect Jesse imitation, Rath pretends to be talking on the phone…”This is Jesse Ramirez, I seem to have caught a terrible cold this weekend, I think I’ll just work at home for a few days. Pretty good huh, Dude?” Jesse starts to look pale…

“Hi, we’re friends of Jesse Ramirez. We weren’t expected, but, would it be possible to stop in and say hello?” Liz was trying to be cool, not look too nervous.

“I’m sorry, you just missed him. But if you hurry and take that elevator, you should be able to catch him in the parking garage.”

“Uh…thanks!” Liz and Maria trying not to look too anxious, hurry back to the others.
“Come on! He’s about to leave!”

The elevator door opens just in time for them to see Rath climb into the driver’s side of Jesse’s car, in the passenger seat is Lonnie. Then to everyone’s horror they see Jesse in the backseat, looking out the window, terrified. Suddenly they realize Jesse isn’t alone, sitting next to him is Nicholas. Seeing them, Nicholas raises his hand to his forehead in a mock salute, and then he signals to Rath to leave.

One second the walls echoed with the sound of screeching tires and in the next second the walls begin to vibrate with Isabel’s heartbroken, terrorized wails…

“Jeeessseee!!!”

Then she falls to her knees…

Jesse's Girl
Part Four

Max and Michael gently reached down and helped Isabel up from the floor. As she stood, she felt her legs start to give away, nearly collapsing to the floor again. Max turned her to face him, taking her into his arms he felt her start to shake.

"I should have listened to you, both of you. You said it would be dangerous for him...now he'll probably die too. I can't take this anymore! If I lose one more person that I love, I might as well be dead because there is no way that I will ever put another person through this hell." She was starting to get hysterical, shaking harder she turns to walk to the elevator.

"Whoa! Where are you going? You can't go back up there like that, people will know something is wrong... we can't expose ourselves like that!" Max was trying to reason with her, to show her they had to cover their tracks and get out without anyone being the wiser of what had just happened.

"Max, my husband has just been taken by three of our worst enemies! For all I know he's dead already! Frankly, right now I don't really care what anyone thinks. All I want is my husband back...then I can let him go. He'll have to realize I can't stay with him." She snorts out the words trying to hide the pain in her heart. "After all this, if he survives, he probably won't ever want to see me again and who could blame him."

"He loves you Isabel, we have all made adjustments to this life style. He won't want to give you up." Michael reaches out to try to comfort her, but to his surprise, she turns on him.

"We all made the choice to be in this...Maria and Liz came in with their eyes wide open! They knew their lives would never be the same once they took on this whole alien insanity. We didn't have a choice, it was made for us, but that's okay because it's all we knew...but Jesse, Jesse came in blind! That's our fault! We knowingly let him in without so much as a 'Hey, by the way, you might get attacked or kidnapped or maybe if you're really unlucky, killed by a whole list of enemies we have. The crazy thing is, we can't tell you who they are because silly us - we don't even know who they are ourselves! Maybe I should have let him read the list of victims I had...you know Alex and Grant!"

"I don't think they're going to kill him, Isabel. I think they want to use him as bait...to bring us to him."
Liz was trying to be optimistic, thinking of reasons for her not to give up.

"Or, maybe they're setting us up for another fateful meeting with Kivar...Jesse would never have a chance to make it through an alien war! Kivar wants us dead...again!" Isabel's breathing was starting to slow down; the anger was leveling itself off, allowing her time to start to think straight. "We don't have any idea where they took him...Maybe I can dream walk him...I don't know of any other way."

"We can't do it here; we’ll have to find a place to stay. What about Jesse's apartment, think we could get in there?" Max was happy to see she was returning to her old self. She had to keep herself together if they were going to get Jesse back safe.

"Look! Jesse must have dropped his briefcase in all the confusion." Liz reaches down to pick it up and suddenly gets a flash of Jesse locked in a bedroom, then she drops it back on the floor. "Oh! I just saw Jesse; they have him in a room. It looked like a bedroom...but where?"

Max picks it back up again and hands it to Liz. "Here, touch it again; maybe you can get us some more information."

Liz places her hands on the case, the flashes were stronger this time, but to her horror Nicholas was in the room with him, his hand on Jesse's head trying to get information from him. Liz sees Jesse's face twisted in pain, trying not to scream. On the night stand, Liz sees a wedding picture...it was Isabel's and Jesse's. "I know where he is...they have him at his place." She doesn't want to tell what else she sees; Isabel wouldn't be able to take that news. Looking at Max, he reads her face, knowing that there is more than she is willing to tell...

“Don’t tell me that you don’t know where they keep it, is it still here?” Nicholas presses harder on Jesse’s head; he would get the information even if it killed this human.

“I never heard of the thing! I didn’t even know what they are until Isabel got shot! There’s something about sparks shooting out of a person’s hand that makes you tend to ask questions!” Jesse flinched under the pressure on his head.

Nicholas lets go of Jesse’s head, looking at him in disgust. ”Well, I guess you aren’t going to be of much use to us then. What am I going to do with you?”

There was a knock on the door, “What do you want! I’m trying to figure out what to do with this…”

“Yo, do you want us to get the other package? I’d like my turn at that one!” Rath had something up his sleeve; he was never too eager to volunteer to do anything unless it meant having fun at someone else’s expense.

“Will it keep you out of my hair if I say ‘yes’? If I give you your own toy, will you leave me alone?”
He kept looking at Jesse trying to decide what to do with him.

“Nicholas, you know that you have a few things to do yet…Kivar isn’t going to like it if you screw this up again! Dis might not be the right time.” Lonnie was in a hurry to get things going; she wanted to take care of the other three. Once Isabel was gone, she would have Kivar all to herself.

“Lonnie, if you think it’s a bad idea…then it must be a good one! Okay Rath, go get it, it’s all yours.”

Nicholas looked in the mirror, disgusted that he was still stuck in this boy/man body. He wanted to get back home; he wanted to be far away from this retched planet. Life was unbearable now that he was the last of his kind. Anger flared in his eyes as he looked at Jesse. “Damn them all! They’ll be sorry they messed with us!”

Then he hears the door slam shut…

“When do we make our move? The sooner the better!” Michael was ready to get this over with, if Kivar did show up, he was ready to end it once and for all.

“I think we need to wait a little while, I don’t think Jesse is in any trouble yet. They probably want to wait to see if we figure out where he is, and if we’ll be stupid enough to run in there blind. Isabel, you’ll need to try to dream walk Jesse tonight, maybe get a layout of the apartment. We’ll work out a plan so we can all come out safe.” Max looked at everyone, waiting for any protests.

“We know what Nicholas is capable of. If he has been able to renew his husk, then we may be stuck with him for a long time.” Thinking of the “skins” and their husks brought back all of Liz’s memories of the time when all the humans disappeared from Roswell.

“At least we know what to do to get rid of him. I don’t think Buddha would mind if we got rid of that one, that instant karma thing might not be so bad…” Kyle wanted to get rid of Nicholas and if Lonnie and Rath went out in the process too, oh well. He hated to see Isabel in such pain, and any one that caused it would have to answer to him…well, maybe they’ll have to answer to all of them…

Nicholas had just opened the bedroom door, when there was a knock, well actually a kick. “Those idiots, can’t they even knock on a door? How do I get talked into doing Kivar’s dirty work all the time?” He reaches for the knob just as the door comes flying open, sending him to the floor. “If I didn’t need you to help me do Kivar’s dirty wo…well, I see you found what you were looking for.”

“Yea, our very own Benedict Arnold. You know what de say about pay backs don’t you?” Lonnie looks on laughing as Rath pushes Ava in the door and sends her to the floor landing next to Nicholas.

Nicholas looks down at her as he gets up; she looks back with terror filled eyes.

“Welcome home...”

Jesse's Girl (CC/Teen) 6/04 Part 5 ~ 6

Jesse's Girl
Part Five

Jesse sat on the edge of the bed listening to the voices coming from the living room. He thought he heard a new voice, although it sounded vaguely familiar, he couldn't place it. Just when he thought he knew who it was he heard the girl's scream and a large thud on the wall.

"What was that?!" He went to open the door, and then remembered it would be useless. Suddenly the door opened and Rath was standing there with the girl in front of him. "Get in there! When we're ready to continue our conversation, we'll let you know!" Rath pushed Ava through the doorway, causing her to fall on the floor.

"You're a real big man aren't you, shoving her like..." Jesse was starting to run for the door, maybe he could get control of Rath and get them out.

Ava was reading Jesse's thoughts "No!" She jumped up and stood between Rath and Jesse. "Don't man! He'll kill you!" She pushed Jesse away.

"Better listen to her, she knows what she's talkin' about." Rath looked from Jesse to Ava. "So, you two just better cool your jets!" He slams the door behind him.

"You ain't got no idea what he is - he's some kind of crazy, don't mess with him!" As she turned to face him, he saw the bruise that covered the side of her face.

"Te..Tess, right?"

"No, I'm Ava...how do you know Tess?" She flinched as she touched the side of her face, feeling the trickle of blood running from her lip.

Jesse headed to the bathroom, reaching into the cabinet he pulled out a clean wash cloth. Running the water until it wouldn't get any colder, he ran the wash cloth under the flow, ringing it out he folds it and hands it to Ava. "I'm Isabel's husband, Jesse. Just how many of you are there? I mean, are you guys’ just twins or are there more are you?"

"Isabel? How is she? Is everyone else okay?" She knew if they were anywhere around, she and Jesse just might have a chance. "Oh, no there ain't no more of us...didn't Isabel ever tell you, you know about "things"? If she didn't, then things might get a bit interestin'."

"I know some things, but she never mentioned another group of you...You look like Tess. At first I thought Lonnie was Isabel in a real good costume. Who's the kid?"

"He ain’t no kid, he's meaner than Lonnie, Rath and Zan put together...he killed Michael in the other world...please, don't mess with him, he'll kill you and it won't be fun." She looked in the mirror and inhaled when she saw the bruise that had spread over half her face. “Don’t be too hard on Isabel, she’s cool, but she has a lot to deal with. Take it from me; this ain’t a fun thing to deal with. They didn’t know nuttin’ about us until just before we showed up in Roswell. We came for Max, well Lonnie and Rath came for Max. We lost our “Max”, his name was Zan. Well, we didn’t really lose him, Rath and Lonnie kind of pushed him front of a truck before I could say anything…”

“They killed him, why? I mean wouldn’t you want to stay together?” Jesse started to realize just how dangerous Lonnie and Rath really were.

“Dere was a summit, a meeting of the leaders of the other planets of our solar system. Zan didn’t want to deal with it, so they killed him. They needed someone to take his place, so Max was it. It’s a complicated story, but Isabel didn’t know where they went, or if they would ever show up again. So I guess maybe she thought they were out of their lives forever…Nicholas is a whole different story. He’s been around for over fifty years, don’t mess with him…he’s Kivar’s right hand man on Earth. I think they must have thought he died too, that maybe he didn’t get his new husk in time.”

“Summits with other planet leaders, husks and who is Kivar?” Jesse started feeling like he never knew Isabel, or the rest of them for that matter. He was looking at Ava wondering how she ended up like this; she seemed so much different than the others.

As Ava turned over the washcloth trying to find a cooler spot, she suddenly remembered. “Hey! Did Liz ever change?”

“Did Liz change?”

“Man, are you a parrot or something? You keep repeating everything I say!”

“Sorry, I just find it hard to understand everything I keep hearing. Liz changed…oh yea! She blasted Tess across Michael’s apartment. She also started having premonitions; it saved their lives when the FBI planned to kill them all at graduation…”

“Cool, I’m glad she can handle all dis stuff, it ain’t easy. I can see why they never told their family. Dis life is never safe, always having to hide who you are…”

As Jesse listened to Ava tell of what their lives were like, he began to realize exactly what it was like for them…always living in fear, not knowing who to trust. No wonder Max was suspicious when he found out about Isabel and him. After his brief experience with the FBI, he could only imagine what Max went through when they had him. How hard it must have been to hide who they really are from the people that they loved the most…

It was then he realized that the room had gotten quiet; looking at Ava he saw that she had fallen asleep. He took the bedspread and covered her with it, suddenly feeling very protective of her. I wonder how many times she has actually slept in a real bed in a real home, he thought to himself. Living with Lonnie and Rath couldn’t have been easy. As he looks out the window he sees that the sun has gone down, the clock read 10:30. “I guess I better get some sleep, who knows what will happen in the morning.” Talking to himself was not a good sign. Looking around the room, he tried to find a place to get some sleep. The chair was defiantly out, then looking at the bed, he decides it won’t hurt. It’s a king size, plenty of room for him; he’ll have to sleep on Isabel’s side…

Looking around the motel room, Isabel tried to decide where the best place to attempt the dream walk would be. They had stayed in a lot of different motel rooms while they had been on the road, but this one had to rank near the bottom. “I guess the table will do.” She takes the chair and pulls it out.

“I’ll stay with you if it will help.” Kyle was worried; it was always hard on her to do this.

“Thanks Kyle, it’s good to know that someone is here to be able to snap me out of it if necessary.” Reaching in her purse, she pulls out Jesse’s picture. Everyone else had quietly left the room, knowing the less distractions the better. Placing her finger on Jesse’s face, she starts to move into his dreams…

“Jesse, can you hear me?” She is looking around the bedroom trying to find the best way in. “Jesse…can you he…” Looking at the bed, she sees another person covered up; what was going on?

“Isabel, is that really you? How did you get here?”

“I’m not really here; I’m in your dreams. I don’t have much time, what can you tell me about getting in?” She was still looking around the room, her eyes always falling back to the other person on the bed.

Jesse follows her eyes, seeing Isabel looking at the sleeping Ava. “Oh Isabel! Don’t even think…that’s Ava! Rath caught her and brought her here. He beat her up pretty bad.” He gently pulls back the cover, exposing the bruise on her face, she never even noticed.

“Oh God Jesse, be careful…hurry I need to know how to get in!” She sees the window “Is it possible to get in there?”

“I’m on the third floor, can you guys fly?” Looking at her, even though it was only in his dream, she looked more beautiful than when they left Roswell.

“Maybe we can figure something out; scaffolding maybe…the guys will know. Can you open the drapes, and then we’ll know exactly where to come.

“I’ve missed you so much. I understand now, I understand everything…Ava told me what your lives have been like. I am so very sorry I was such a jerk to you and your family…I love you more than ever!” How he wanted to reach out and take her in his arms.

“Oh Jesse, I love you too. When I saw them take you away, I thought I would die. I have to go…just be on the lookout for anything to happen, we’ll figure something out…please, be careful…” She was slowly fading away.

Suddenly she gasped, jumping up in the chair she felt her tears running down her face…

Jesse's Girl
Part Six

As she took a deep breath, Kyle looked on worried. "Are you okay? Did you see Jesse?"

Wiping the last of the tears away, she smiled at Kyle. "Oh yes, he's fine, for now. These are happy tears Kyle, he finally understands everything...he knows what I, I mean, we have been through all our lives. It's such a great feeling to know that that part of our problems are over. Now, for the biggest problem…we have to get to the others and start making plans.”

It was a nice summer night, so they sat on a blanket by the van while they waited for Isabel to connect to Jesse. Max was leaning against the tire with Liz's head on his lap, suddenly she pointed to the sky. "Look!" They all turn their heads to see what she was pointing at...there in the sky was the v formation directly over their head. "I think it's a good sign."

"Or a signal to Kivar, telling him where we are." Michael grumbles. "Ow, what'd you hit me for?"

"Spaceboy, don't be such a pessimist! We need good vibes now! We don't know what we'll be up against soon, so be nice and think happy thoughts."

"Gees, when did you turn into Pollyanna?" Michael was rubbing his arm where Maria hit him.

"Somebody has to...look here comes Isabel and Kyle!"

"I can't tell by her face if it's good or bad." Liz was trying to pick up on something, but not having any luck.

As Isabel and Kyle approach, they sense that she must have had good news.

"Well, what happened?" Michael wasn't wasting anytime.

"I got through to him; they're in the bedroom..."

"They're? Who's with him?" Max was starting to get worried now.

"Ava, Rath found her somehow and brought her to Jesse's. He beat her up pretty bad, Max. The one side of her face was one big bruise."

"Ava? What is she doing in Boston? Maria! If you hit me in the arm one more time...!"

"Let her talk Michael, how is she supposed to know what Ava is doing in Boston?"

"Thanks Maria." Isabel smiles as she looks at Michael. Max couldn't believe that she smiled; this must have been one good walk.

"We need to know what you found out...everything." Max was getting serious, this could be the battle of their lives and they needed to know where they stood.

"They're in the bedroom; there are a couple of large windows." She noticed that they seemed to relax hearing this. "That's the good news. The bad news is they're on the third floor.”

It had to be the third floor. They stood in the alley behind Jesse’s apartment building, looking up to the open drapes.

“Do you think Ava can mind warp like Tess?” Liz asked, trying to remember just what Ava had said she could do.

“I can’t really remember what if any particular powers they had…it seemed like they all had the same. Maybe that was another thing that distinguished us from them. The true Royal four had separate powers, ones that were only for a certain person.” Max was running all of the new thoughts through his mind, trying to avoid the problem of getting up to the third floor. Glancing around the alley, he saw just what they needed…a collapsible scaffold. He slaps Michael on the arm.

“Do I look like everyone’s punching bag?”

“Get over it Michael. Look, over there that just might work.” Max, Michael and Kyle walk over to check out the scaffold. Looking at each other, they nod. Max takes his hand and makes a force field, making it move right under the windows.

“Do you think we can get them and not get caught?”

“I’m not holding my breath…Kyle, you and Maria will have to stay with the van, I don’t want anyone without some kind of powers to go up there. We’ll need all the help we can get, and, nothing against you guys, but you have no way to defend yourselves.”

Kyle hated to be left out of the action, but he knew Max was right, they would be in the way if the others thought they were in danger. “Maria and I can hang…I can teach her about Buddha!” He was grinning, but trying to look serious.

“I think I’ll take a rain check, thank you. I’ve heard enough about him to last me a lifetime.” Maria wasn’t in the mood to be playing games. Pollyanna was put onto the back burner; things were getting serious, no more joking.

“Liz, I don’t like it, I don’t want you facing those three by yourself.” Max was looking at her like she had lost her mind. “You know what they can do, if we’re in the bedroom with Jesse and Ava, how can I protect you?”

“Max,” she places her hand on his cheek, “They don’t know that I have any powers, it will take them by surprise…I’ll be fine.” She said it with confidence, but deep inside she was terrified. “You’ll need a distraction while you do what you have to do.” He takes her into his arms, giving her a deep, loving kiss. In that moment Liz has a flash of someone dying. It was so quick, and in the shadows, she couldn’t tell who it was. Sucking in her breath, she pulls away from Max.

“What? Did you see something?” Wide eyed, she shakes her head yes.

“Someone will die. It happened so fast I didn’t see who it was…”

Jesse's Girl (CC/Teen) 6/05 Part 7

This is the conclusion of this one, hope you liked it!

Jesse's Girl
Part Seven

Looking at her watch, Isabel nodded, things were about to begin. Max and Michael started working on the window...

Liz looked at her watch, "Do it now" she told herself, it will be alright. Reaching for the doorbell, she pushes the button. Holding her breath she waited for someone to answer. When she heard the knob turning, she wanted to run...

"Well, look what the cat drug in...you mean your husband the King would risk his lovely bride?" Nicholas was looking at Liz, wondering what she wanted. "Why don't you come in?" He holds the door open for her. When she didn't move, he pointed at her, pulling her in with his powers. "Now, what are you doing here?" He was growing impatient.

"I came to get some of Jesse's things for Isabel, she wouldn't come herself."

Rath got up from the couch and walked over to her. "How about another kiss, I still remember the last one…epic!!”

“Uh…I don’t think so. Would it be possible to get a few things from Jesse’s desk, then I’ll be on my way…” Liz walked backwards, not giving them the chance at her back.

“No, I think we may have just added another person to the par…Damn! You idiots! Go check the bedroom!” As Rath and Lonnie headed to the bedroom door, Nicholas turned his back on Liz, not knowing of her powers.

Liz took advantage of his slip, summoning all of her energy and her hatred for him, she blasts Nicholas, knocking him out and sending him to the floor. “MAX!! Look out!”

In the bedroom, Max and Jesse were getting ready to head to the window when they hear Liz’s warning. At that moment Rath and Lonnie blast open the door, then time begins moving at fast forward and slow motion all at once!

Rath and Lonnie, spying Jesse and Max aim their combined force at them, realizing what will happen Ava jumps in front of it, taking almost their full blast. Jesse is hit with what got passed Ava, he falls on the floor. Ava, before getting hit sends her own blast at Rath and Lonnie, she used everything in her, all her hatred for them and all that they have done to people over the years. Michael and Isabel both aimed their force at the pair. The combination sends Lonnie and Rath flying against the wall. It was over in a matter of seconds, Jesse and Ava lay on the floor, wounded. Max didn’t know where to turn first. Michael walks over to the other ones lying on the floor, pushes Rath with the toe of his shoe. “I think these two are toast. How’s Jesse?”

Max was leaning over him, getting ready to heal him when Liz let’s out a yell “Ava! What did they do to you?” She falls on the floor and puts Ava’s head on her lap. “You’ll be okay, Max can heal you! Max, hurry, it’s Ava! She’s really bad…”

Max turns to look; Jesse sits up rubbing his shoulder. “Go to her Max, I’m fine. It can wait. Just help Ava, she needs you.”

Max goes to Ava and kneels on the floor, he sees the burn mark near her stomach, he had never seen a wound like that. “Here Ava, let me at that, I can have you good as new….”

Ava reaches up and puts her hand to his lips. “No, you can’t do anything for me now…it’s my time…I knew it when I let Rath take me.” She looks up at him; clearly the pain was showing on her face. Max looks up at Liz and sees the tears in her eyes, knowing what would happen.

“What do you mean ‘you let him take you’? You got caught on purpose?” Max couldn’t get the drift of why she would do this. Then Ava knew it was time that Max knew the truth, she lays her hand on his arm, giving him flashes to another time and place...they were swimming in a red ocean.
They were in love, but she wasn't his first love; the love of his life had died when she was having his child. She knew he still mourned for them, that she would always be second. But she would gladly take that, for she loved him so...

Max looked at Ava, finally knowing the truth, it was her that was his queen on Antar...but Liz had been there too. She was gone but always in his heart. Ava knew that Liz was the one he truly needed, the one he waited for, so she gave up her life so that they could be together.

A knowing look passed between them, he would never tell anyone the truth...it would be their secret. He knew now why he had loved her in that other life...

“I knew that someday dey would kill me, heck I’m just surprised they let me live this long.” She makes a small coughing sound; her breath was getting more labored. “I don’t regret it…you guys gave me more in the few times we…” The pain was getting stronger.

“Ava please, let Max heal you…please” Liz was begging her friend to be strong; one tear runs down her face. “Then when you’re all better, you can come with us in the van…” Ava just shakes her head “no”.

“If you won’t let me heal you, then at least let me do this.” Max takes his hand and erases the bruise on her face.

“Thanks, it was pretty ugly.” Her eyes were getting heavy and she could hardly focus them. Jesse comes over and takes her hand.

“Thank you, you saved my life…twice. I could never repay you for that.” He was fighting back his own tears.

“You be good to Isabel, she deserves the best…and I think you’re it. Nobody ever stood up to Rath for me before, so I have to thank you…” She closes her eyes, willing all her strength to go on. “Max, I’m so glad that you’re the true King…Zan, well he just wouldn’t have done so good. Someday you’ll take Kivar and Antar will be free again. Please, don’t cry for me…I don’t think I’m worth the tears…”

“Ava, don’t think that! You saved us tonight, you saved Max before…You are just as worthy of having a good life.” Liz looks down at Ava, she is fighting the pain, the burn mark is starting to glow, starting to consume her.

“Do me a favor, okay? If you could, put me somewhere nice, somewhere pretty…I hated the sewers.” She started to cough again; a little trickle of blood ran from the corner of her mouth.

“It’ll be the best place ever. We promise.” Isabel crouches down and takes Ava’s hand. “You are the best, you be happy were ever you go.” Isabel refuses to let Ava see her cry; it was her last wish, no tears.

They hear the slightest of breaths then she closes her eyes…

Down stairs by the van Kyle and Maria are pacing. “I don’t know how much more of this I can take…if we don’t hear something…Whoa! Look at that!” Kyle points up at the v formation, it has become ten times brighter and suddenly a shooting star with a flaming tail soars across it…

It’s August 14th, three days since we left Boston. Ava’s body was consumed by the heat from the blast and Max, Michael and Isabel used their combined powers to take care of Rath and Lonnie’s bodies. We weren’t sure what to do with their ashes. Although we liked Michael’s idea of sweeping them up and putting them in the garbage, we decided against it. Eventually we took them to the dock and dumped them in the Atlantic Ocean. We looked for almost a day to find the best place to put Ava. We finally found it at this park; it had the biggest rose garden we had ever seen. I had no idea that there were that many colors of roses! We snuck in after dark and sprinkled her ashes around a lavender rose bush called Ava’s Dream. I think she would have loved it.

We don’t know what happened to Nicholas. I guess he took off when he came to, hopefully that will be the last we see of him.

Jesse took an indefinite leave of absence from his law firm. I don’t think they were too happy about it, but I don’t think Jesse cares. He’s back with Isabel and they are both the happiest I’ve seen them since they got married. We told him he would have to drive for a long time to come since he has to catch up with the rest of us…and he didn’t mind a bit.

I feel bad for Kyle. I know he has always known that Isabel would someday get back with Jesse, but it finally hit home when we left Boston with Jesse at the wheel. I hope that he can find someone soon; he has become such a great guy. It would be a shame to let a good one get away. If only Ava had lived, I think they could have gotten together. But that’s a what if we’ll never know the answer to.

Michael and Maria are still the same, although, she did quit hitting him on the arm once she saw the bruise she had left. She had to do some major kissing up because of the one.

Max and I have grown closer, if that’s possible. With Ava’s death we have discussed some major issues, one of them being us having kids. It’s something we both want, someday, when we feel safer. We have decided on a name for our first daughter…she’ll be named after two of the most important women that had entered our lives…Claudia Ava.
