Part 10b
Standing outside the Italian restaurant, Liz was a bit hesitant about going inside.
"I hope you like this restaurant"? Max smiled at her. "I wasn´t sure if you liked Italian or not"? He placed his hand on her arm, ready to escort her inside.
"I love Italian Max". Dropping her eyes she said embarassingly she asked. "But it looks so expensive, are you sure you wanna bring me here on our first date".
Knowing that Kyle was actually springing the money for his dates with Liz, Max said confidently. "Liz it´s OK, I´ve got it covered, besides I made reservations for us". He assured her, leading her inside. Max had seen how much Liz was struggling by the meagre apartment she was living in. It wasn´t like he was actually paying for anything, he thought as they approached the reservation counter.
"Table for two, Evans". Max told the woman standing behind the counter.
"Yes, Mr Evans 7.30. We´re been expecting you". The woman smiled motioning for Max and Liz to follow her.
Once seated, a waiter promptly came to their table, then passing 2 menus to each of them, he lighted a candle placed in the middle of the table.
"I think we´re just look through the menu´s first". Max said to the waiter, he nodded and walked away from them in his professional manner.
"Wow this place is really cosy". Liz leaned over the table to whisper to Max.
"Yeah it does have an atmosphere about it". Max diverted his eyes towards hers.
"Why don´t we see what´s on the menu, I don´t know about you, but I´m starved". Max suggested, reverting his attention back to the opened menu in front of him.
After ordering Max could see that Liz was still somewhat nervous, and decided he would break the uncomfortable silence between them.
"So Liz I never knew that you supported yourself". Max leaned into the back rest and draped his arm over the next chair casually.
She blushed. Maybe she had told him to much at her apartment.
"I have most of my life. When most kids were getting there weekly allowance to buy candy and things. I used to help my Dad around the office, mainly just going to his secretary and asking her for files when he needed him". She fidgeted with her napkin, no being able to look Max his eyes.
Fazed that Liz Parkers childhood hadn´t been that much different from his own despite her having wealthy parents. Max thought back to his own childhood at how he used to do odd-jobs as a kid to make ends make. Coming back out of his memories he grimaced at Liz relating to what she had just said. "Yeah I remember mowing Mrs Davies lawns when I was a kid and doing short errands for her. Money was always so tight at home".
"I was never in the same sort of situation as you though Max. My parents always had enough money, but all and all my upbringing made me realise at a young age that I could provide for myself without my parents financial support. It´s made me realise that I can live independantly from them if needed". Liz pursed her lips together. "So anyway what´s it like living with Kyle and Michael, to tell you the truth I don´t like either of them. How do you manage to live with those two"?
"Oh they´re not so bad once you get to know them. They take more things for granted than I do, but I suppose we´re all different". He suddenly broke himself away from their conversation not wanting to dwell on those two tonight.
"I hope our dinner comes soon". He changed the subject. "Hope your not as hungry as I am". He looked at the time on his watch. "If our food doesn´t come soon, I think I´m going to die of starvation". He grinned at her.
"Let´s just make a toast". Liz lifted her orange juice up in the air.
"To our new friendship and to where ever it may lead us". Liz smiled hopefully.
"Yeah to our new friendship". Max reiterated her words. "Where ever we shall go". Max smiled genuielly to her, clinging their glasses together.
For the most of the evening that followed they talked about 100 different things. Max began to see a side of Liz he never thought he would ever want to know. She was a typical young woman, as he now saw her. With her own dreams and exasperations in life, much like himself. Max had even managed to enjoy his date with her. Liz´s easy-going personality made him feel really comfortable around her for the first time in his life.
And the thoughts of the bet became buried deep in his head as the evening went on.
Once they had left the restaurant and he began to walk Liz back to her apartment, Max was surprised to find that he was suddenly saddened that the evening was slowly drawing to an end.
As she unlocked the door and turned to him, her shining smile brightened up her whole face, something that Max had never really noticed before in his life.
"Liz". He looked down at his hands at first. "I really had a good time tonight". He said as he lifted his amber eyes up to hers.
"So did I Max". She nervously put her hands behind her back. "And I want to say thank-you again for taking me out to dinner". She blushed as she saw his eyes with some uncertainty in them. Liz thought back to her one and only date she had back in high school with Tommy Marks. How when they came to this moment of the date Tommy had awkwardly leaned in and given her a soft kiss on her cheek.
Liz wasn´t sure what to say to him now, only waiting anxiously for him to make the first move.
"Liz could we go out again together"? Max asked he was as nervous as she was and he hadn´t expected things to go as well as they had tonight.
"I´d really like that Max". She twitched her fingers together still with her arms behind her back.
As they stood silently there, she said. "I would invite you in, but I have to get up early tomorrow, I´m working the morning shift". She bit her bottom lip still a bunch of nerves.
"I understand". Max replied, then unconsciously he leaned his face forward, as one hand moved to rest on the top of Liz´s shoulder, his other hand rested on her hip. Liz could feel his heavy breath on the soft skin of her face and as their lips drew closer together. Liz felt like her whole body was on fire.
As his lips gently caressed her lips, Max moved slowly away, his eyes hooded over. Her soft scent consuming him more that he had expected.
Liz traced her lips with her fingers, where Max´s lips were for just a short moment before.
"I´ll give you a call tomorrow in the afternoon if you don´t mind". He whispered quietly.
"I should be home by then". She replied her eyes like an open window to her soul.
"I better go now". The ends of his lips bent into a smile.
Then when he finally dropped his hand that had been placed on her hip, his fingers grazed over hers, sending an exhilerating sensation through his body.
Not taking her eyes away from his, Liz moved inside as she fell into a trance. "Good night Max". She then said, leaning on the door, she didn´t want this evening to end, and as he stood outside, her mouth curled into a smile too.
"Good night Liz". Max softly said, as he found himself hynotised by her eyes and she closed the door slowly.
Once the door was finally closed, Max stood there, staring at the door deep in thought.
Then when he finally realised he couldn´t stand outside her apartment door all night, he walked trudging his feet below.
Once back home again, Max was surprised to find Michael and Kyle sober and waiting up for him.
"So how was the date"? Kyle asked anxiously.
With downcast eyes Max replied". Yeah it was good". Not really wanting to go into details with either Kyle or Michael.
"What do you mean good"? Michael hugged the cushion he had in his arms.
"Does that mean good as in your made progress, or good as in you enjoyed eating out on my account"? Kyle asked with an eagarness in the edge of his voice.
"You offered". Max through back in his face, he couldn´t be bothered getting into any analyse of his and Liz´s date.
"Leave it out Kyle". Michael defended Max, much to Max´s surprise.
"Look guys I´m really tired now, and I just wanna go to sleep". Max rolled his eyes at Kyle then walked out of the living area going straight to the bathroom.
Closing the door behind him, Max went to the basin staring into the mirror in front of him.
Looking at his image, he ran his hands over his eyes and for the first time since he took on the bet, became ashamed of himself.
Sighing he uncovered his eyes seeing his face reflect back at him, he realised that for all the advice Kyle and Michael had given him. Max was sure that he had already fallen into the trap.

Hi everyone, thanks for the fb you´s sent me, for the first time since I started this fic, I´m wondering where or how I should approach this next part. I haven´t got writers block, because for this fic, I just jump on the computer and type whatever comes into my head.
But either way I have a block, OK stared at the screen for a few seconds now, got an idea.
Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Part 11
Alone in the apartment on a rare occassion, Max had waited patiently trying to go over a reading he had for one of his lectures, but ended up watching the clock tick slowly by. As the hand of the clock rounded finally to 1.00pm, Max couldn´t wait any longer and rung Liz up as he had promised to last night.
"C´mon, c´mon". Max mumbled to the mouth piece listening to the dialling tone. Then when he thought Liz wasn´t home he was about to hang the phone up when he heard her voice answer the phone.
"Hello Liz here". She said in a friendly voice.
Smiling he replied. "Liz it´s me Max".
"Oh hi Max, goof timing. I just got in the door about 20 minutes ago". She smiled brightly, drying her long hair with a towel in her other hand.
"You busy then"? He asked hoping she would say no.
"I just got out of the shower actually, I was just about to make me a sandwich for lunch. Otherwise I was just going to study". Liz told him, turning her head around letting her hair hang to one side.
"Do you want to meet up today or something"? Max suggested, sitting on the arm rest of the couch.
"What do you wanna do"? Liz asked walking into the bathroom.
"I could come around and study with you". Max said anxiously. "Then later if you like we could go for a walk in the park, or if you like shoot some hoops". He suggested very thoughtfully.
"Basketball, your´ve got to be joking". She hung the towel up, then walked back out into the open living space.
"Hey there´s nothing wrong with basketball". Max pretended to sound hurt. "I could teach you how to play if you want"? He offered, then spotting the basketball in a corner, walked over and picked it up.
"But I suck at basketball". Liz told him, walking to the counter that had the roses Max gave her last night.
"I´ll be nice". With his other hand Max threw the basketball slightly in the air catching it with his out-stretched palm.
"You just want to laugh at how I play". She fingered the petals of a rose softly.
"No I don´t". Max insisted, chuckling to himself.
"OK then". Liz agreed. "But only if you don´t laugh at me". She said as she became transfixed at the petals.
"So I´ll see you in about 15 minutes then". Max stood up promptly. Ready to go out the door.
"See you then". Liz beamed, her eye-lashes fluttering knowing Max would soon be there.
"OK Liz see you shortly then".
Once Max got to Liz´s apartment, he waited patiently outside until she opened the door.
"Hi Max". She greeted him blushing slightly.
Max knew that they weren´t a couple, and when he left Liz last night he had kissed her. He didn´t know whether he should kiss her again or not.
Then leaning over to Liz´s face, he peeked her on the soft skin of her cheek.
"Hey Liz". He said, standing back up straight.
Liz blushed again, touching where Max´s lips had just been with her fingers, realising she was just staring at him she then said. "Oh sorry, come in". She motioned to Max with her hand and he walked inside.
After studying for over 2 hours together, Max became restless, then asked Liz if she was up for their game of basketball.
So leaving there books on the table they got up to leave, walking to the courts about 10 minutes away.
"Hey Max catch". Liz threw the basketball miserably to him.
Max dove to the side, catching the ball, he then burst out laughing.
"Max what´s so funny, you said you wouldn´t laugh at how I play". Liz stood there with her hands on her hips.
"I´m sorry Liz". He tried to control his laughing. "But when you play 1 on 1 your not supposed to through the ball to your opponent". Max said still not being able to stop laughing.
"Oh, you didn´t tell me that rule". Liz said, going up to Max and swiping the ball out from under his arm.
But Max caught her around her middle as she tried to run away from her, he hoisted her into the air, causing Liz to laugh.
"Max let me down". She screamed through her laughter, kicking her feet out in front of herself.
"Not until you play fair". Max through her easily over his shoulder, she then dropped the ball to the ground.
"Put me down". Liz arched her back up, feeling like putty in his arms.
"No can do Liz". Max walked towards the side of the court, until he was standing on grass.
Then swinging her into his arms, he went down on the ground. Liz tried to struggled out of his arms, "Max please". She said all red in the face. "Your tickling me". She burst out in giggles.
Then when Max felt the hard ground under him, Liz turned in his arms, and he rolled over on top of her.
Not expecting to be in this position with Liz, Max lay his hand under her head, he could feel her chest raise underneath his body. But he couldn´t believe the sensations he was having for Liz right now or how good her warm breath felt against the skin of his face.
"Max what are you trying to do to me"? Liz asked as she opened her eyes still laughing.
"I don´t know Liz". He replied honestly through hooded eyes, as he lost himself in chocolate pools.
Realising what position they were lying in Liz pushed herself up, leaning her arms behind her,she ran her fingers through the long grass.
Max pushed himself off of Liz´s body, falling back onto his butt, still memorised by her eyes.
Biting down on her lip Liz then said. "We better get back to our game of basketball".
"Yeah", he said. Pushing himself up to stand he held his hand out to Liz and helped her to her feet.

Part 12
After taking Liz back home after there basketball match-up, Max walked the streets for awhile deep in thought, until hunger forced him to return home.
On returning home, he found the apartment was still empty, so he decided to turn in for an early night. After eating, he then duly went to bed, somewhat whithered by thinking to much.
Lying on his bed with his hands propped under his head he could not find sleep easily and stared hopelessly at the dimming light from outside his window.
Sure he wouldn´t be sleeping any time soon, he reflected on the events that had occurred with Liz that afternoon once again.
Then moving on his bed uncomfortably he turned on his side unsettled.
Today as they had played basketball somehow he had ended up in a precarious position with Liz. Lying on top of her Max began to feel warm sensation throughout his body, and to put it short he had become very horny because of the close contact. Max cringed at the thought that he had almost had a full-on, hard erection, but then breathed a sigh of relief when he remembered that Liz had broken him out of his stupor before it had actually happened.
Max then cursed himself, for almost losing his self-control and dignity like that. But knew it had more to do with the close contact with Liz rather than him having any real feelings for her, warranting his
´almost erection`.
In the short time that they had gotten to know each other, Max´s feeling towards Liz had changed from absolute despise to the tentative friendship that they now shared. So it was a purely physically reaction from his side.
Max then squirmed when his next thought entered his mind. He thought about how he was supposed to be playing Liz because of the bet and then a rue smile covered his face. Because in fact he wasn´t only playing Liz, but he was also playing all the guys that were on in the bet as well. And how was he playing the other guys too? The thing that Max knew that no one else knew about himself was that Max was in fact still a virgin, something that he wouldn´t admit to anybody in his life-time.
He had only wanted to fit in with the rich boys, and because Max definitely couldn´t competed with them financially he decided that he could compete with them on another level. The bet being his perfect opportunity to prove that he belonged to them. So he accepted the bet despite his virgin status.
Max had never held his virginity as something pure that he wanted to save for that special person, because up until now Max had never meet her, whoever she was. Then he half chuckled to himself thinking he was indeed a being of the male species, who would be willing to lose his virginity for a week long vacation to Mexico all expenses paid.
As Max continued to think he was unaware as then sky outside turned into darkness. Then his thoughts were interrupted by the sound of some-one or some- bodys entering the apartment. Hearing the voices of Kyle and Michael, Max could also distinguish a few female voices that he didn´t recognise.
"He not home yet"? Kyle asked in a slurred, dunken voice.
"Yeah he´s home, see his keys are on the table". Michael corrected him.
"Who are you´s talking about"? Max heard one of the girls giggle.
"Our room mate". Michaels then answered.
"Is he as cute as you´s two"? Another female voice asked.
"Yeah where is he"? The other female voice asked, walking towards the hallway.
"Hey Stacy". Kyle called her.
"My names Sandy actually". She replied unimpressed. "What do you want"?
"I mean Sandy, don´t go down there yet, he might be sleeping". Kyle popped open a can of beer, then walked to give it to her.
"But he might want to party with us". The second girl said, wondering who this mysterious room mate was.
"No Max would definitely not want to party with us". Micahel told her.
"Has he got a girl friend"? The other girl asked.
"Yeah he has actually". Kyle answered.
Hearing that part of the conversation, Max turned on his side with his back to the door. He then thought it was no wonder Kyle and Michael never had a chance with Liz, especially listening to how fake those two girls were. But then Max sighed thinking what made him think he was any different from them either.
Then closing his eyes he tried to clear his mind off from the inside battle he was having with himself, knowing he couldn´t talk to anyone about the truth.

Hi everyone, thanks for the fb once again.

Part 13
Once Max had left Liz´s apartment, she crossed the small room to gaze outside the window. Unlike the balcony that she had outside her bedroom, Liz was nonetheless content with looking outsied the small window.
As her eyes searched the tree lined avenue, her thoughts went back to the date she had last night with Max, and the comprising position they had found themselves in today.
She touched her lips with a feather-light touch as she remembered the kiss Max had given her last night. Liz had alway imagined that if she was ever lucky enough to be kissed by Max it would have been different. In her dreams, Max would take her in his arms tenderly, and that his lips would leave her completely breathless. Although the kiss had left her feeling breathless, it was missing the passion she had always dreamed off. But last nights kiss had left Liz the impression that there was more to expect from him, and in no way was she disappointed as she blushed wildy at how she tended to let her mind get away with herself.
Instead the kiss had been sweet, perfect for the moment especially since it was the first kiss Liz had ever had before.
When Liz´s thoughts then went back todays events, the soft skin of her face flushed a crimson red, thinking how she had wanted to throw herself at Max. Liz rolled her eyes in her head, hardly believing that those thoughts had come from her, inexperienced virgin from Roswell
But that´s what Max Evan did to her, he had the capability to turn her whole world upside down. Liz was greatful to be at least Max´s friend, or even more if she dared to believe. But Liz also knew for all the romantic notions she had ever harboured for Max Evans, if he ever desired her, and wanted more, that she could very likely cave-in to meet his every whim.
Later on in the evening, as Liz sat on her couch crossed-legs studying, her telephone rung.
Dropping her book, she went and answered the phone.
"Hi Chica". Maria acknowledged her, as she lay down on her bed.
"Maria, I was waiting for your call". Liz smiled happy to hear her best friends voice again.
"I tried ringing you earlier, but you must have been at work". Maria replied, propping herself against her fluffy pillows.
"Probably, or I could have been out with Max". Liz told her innocently.
"Speaking about the Devil, how was the date last night"? Maria asked then creased her brow on knowing they had gone out again today.
As Liz explained the details of last night, Maria was at least pleased to hear that Liz had enjoyed herself.
Then not wanting to miss the details of today events Maria asked.
"So Liz what were you and Max up to today"? The suspicion in her voice quite obviuos.
"We studied for awhile then we went out for a game of basketball". Liz explained.
"Basketball the boy takes you out for a romantic dinner last night, and the best he can do today is play ball with you"! Maria said huffed at Max´s last effort. "Besides you can´t even play basketball Liz".
"I know I can´t play basketball, and it was fun.....". Liz blushed not telling Maria the other details.
Maria noticed the way Liz paused in mid sentence then said.
"Liz there´s something your not telling me, tell me Liz". Maria demanded like most friends would.
"Well... um...". Liz stuttered.
"Liz spit it out, don´t you hold out on me now". Maria said pushing for an answer.
"Well we kinda ended up with Max lying on top of me". Liz told her rather too cryptically.
"As in he ended up lying on you because Dumbo tripped over his ears". Her distaste for Max again obvious.
"Maria, Max doesn´t have big ears". Liz defended him.
"I always said love is blind".
"Maria, I am not in love with Max". Liz replied.
"That´s what you think. Anyway, was it because he forced you too. No scrub that idea, he may be a jerk but he´s not an ass".
"Maria"! Liz scolded her.
"Or was Max lying on you because you´s both mutally agreed to it"? Maria asked hoping it was the first question.
"Maria, if you must know, Max threw me over his shoulder and when he fell down to the ground, I ended up squirming in his arms and he ended up lying on top of me". Liz then smacked her forehead with her hand slightly, realising that she had just told Maria what really happened.
"Why did Max throw you over his shoulder"?
Liz was expecting that question and replied. "I tried running away with the ball".
"Liz you don´t run with the ball in basketball". Maria rolled her eyes in her head.
"I know that rule now Maria, look this is getting ridiculous". Liz said sighing.
"OK Chica, then tell me what were you´s doing when lying down on the ground together"? Maria asked wanting to know everything.
"Well nothing actually....but...but, when Max was lying on top of me I wanted to throw myself at him are you satisfied now". Liz knew there was no point hiding the truth anymore.
"You wanted to do what"? Maria replied stunned from Liz´s admission.
"You heard me". Liz said sounding irritated.
Pausing Maria knew how hard this must be for Liz and said cautiously.
"Liz I have only one thing to say to you".
"What is it Maria"? Liz asked feeling silly for how she had reacted.
"All I am going to say is that don´t go giving your petals away. Remember our pact we made together". Maria reminded her.
"I won´t forget Maria". Liz remembered the pact they had made with each other at 13 years of age.
"Remember we are roses and your not going to shed your petals away for this guy". Maria said sternly.
"I won´t Maria". Liz replied fluttered. "Beside we have even gotten to base one yet".
"Even though you and Max haven´t even gotten to base 1 yet, don´t let him hit any home-runs OK Chica, until Max or whoever are going to get down on their knees and put that ring on your finger". Maria smiled giddily.
"Don´t worry Maria I won´t be sleeping with Max now, or anytime soon". Liz reassured her.
"And Chica, remember roses have thorns too. So if Max gets to heavy with you then prick him and let his male egotism float to the ground". Maria said in Maria wisedom.
"I will Maria". Liz laughed at her, thinking that she had really needed Maria to put things back into prospective for her.

Hi everyone, I enjoyed reading the last lot of fb. It will be interesting to see how Liz reacts to Max from now on. I have a rough idea what to do, but it´s not always easy especially since I always have Max and Liz as a couple in my other fics. LOL. See how it goes.

Part 14
"Max where are you taking me"? Liz asked him as they walked out of the library and in the opposite direction from the cafeteria.
"I thought it would be a good idea to get off-campus for a change". Max replied as he walked next to her. "And there´s a cosy little cafe I know not far from here".
"As long as we´re not to long". Liz looked at the time on her watch. "I´ve got a lecturer in a little over an hour".
"The cafe´s only about 10 minutes away once we´re off-campus". Max reassured her confidently, and continued to walk on.
Liz had been deliberately keeping a good distance from Max, he noticed this too, he was used to having her close to his shoulder. But then Liz had been acting distant for most of the morning, she had been her usual pleasant self. But Max had noticed small things as well, like when he had asked Liz if he could use one of her pens. They brushed fingers when he went to take the pen from Liz and she had pulled her hand away as if his fingers were hot coals of fire.
Max wondered if Liz´s behaviour was due to yesterday, and then thought that maybe just maybe she had felt the same sexual gravitation to him, like he had to her. But then he shook the whole deal off, because this was Liz Parker after all. He had heard at school that Liz was still a virgin, but choose not to believe the rumours back then, that was mainly because he had disliked her. Max was then thinking that maybe Liz really was a virgin and went to explore his thoughts on that idea when he was interupted by Liz.
"Max where do we go to now"? Liz asked him.
"Oh sorry Liz, I was day-dreaming". Max apologised to her.
"It´s OK Max, everybody day-dreams now and again". Liz grinned at him innocently.
"Yeah right, ummm the cafes 2 more blocks down on the right, Max said checking to see if the roads were clear before he and Liz crossed the road.
As the talked, still in the back of Max´s mind he knew that he was starting to like Liz. After getting to know her a little, Max had come to the realisation that Liz was a pretty decent person.
But not wanting to make a fool of himself in front of the guys, Max knew that he would have to approach this situation with Liz cautiously, so that she would trust him fully before he could move onto the next part of the plan.
"You were right, this is really cosy". Liz looked around the small rustic cafe.
"Yeah it´s definitely got that country feeling to it". He replied as he walked to the counter. "I come here now and again when I wanna be alone".
"I´m honoured then for you bringing me here". She leaned onto the counter. "Especially if you come here by yourself". Liz looked up to the black-board scanning the days menu.
"What can I get for you kids". A plumb older woman asked Max and Liz when she came out to serve them.
"Ummm I´ll have a mocca cappuccino". Liz answered.
"Anything to eat with that young lady"?
"No thanks". Liz began searching for her purse in her back-pack.
"That will be $2.20". The woman replied friendly enough.
"No I´ll pay for it". Max the woman.
"Max I do have money". Liz blushed brightly, embarassed by Max´s offer.
"Liz if your only having a cappuccino, I can cover it". Max reassured her.
"Max please, I can´t expect you to pay for me everytime we go somewhere". Liz insisted adamantly.
"Liz your forgetting that I won that scholarship, I do get enough money to be able to afford the small luxuries in life". Max said watching Liz´s face drop. "Liz why don´t you go and find us a table or something, and know that I think about it I haven´t seen you eat all this morning". Max mentioned, quite worried.
"Max, honestly I´m not hungry". Liz lifted her eye-lids up to look into his eyes.
"Ahem, I don´t mean to be rude, but I have to check something in the oven". The plumb woman said in a even tone.
"I´m going to order a cake and your going to share it with me, OK"?
"Yeah OK then". Liz replied shyly.
"Now go find us a seat". Max smiled at her, and watched Liz turn around to find them a table.
Seeing Liz waiting for him patiently in a secluded corner, Max carried the tray over to her.
"1 mocca cappuccino". He placed the cup on the table. "1 coffee decaf for me, and one cake for the both of us". Max placed the table in between them before sitting down.
"What is that for a cake"? Liz eyes bulged out of her head.
"This Liz, is a 3 layer, strawberry and cream cake". Max´s eyes brightened up, having one of his favourite foods in front of him.
"You expect me to eat that with you"? Liz picked up her desert spoon reluctantly.
"Sure do". Max took a spoon fulled with a strawberry and cream.
"Here try it, the strawberrys are good here". Max put his spoon out to Liz´s mouth. "Go on try it".
Liz blushed wildly, here she was being spoon fed strawberrys and cream from Max. "Thanks". Liz managed to smile a little, then took the spoon in her mouth. Max watched as Liz devoured the contents in his mouth, she really did look cute, and her prententious expression that she was enjoying the strawberrys showed.
"To sour for you or something"? Max asked her, grinning.
"It´s not that". Liz said after swallowing the food. "It´s just I don´t have a very big appetite". Liz wiped the corners of her mouth with a napkin.
"I noticed, but if your going to be hanging out with me, then you have to get used to my big eating habits".
"Oh here Max, use my spoon". Liz passed it over to him.
"Only if your take mine then". He challenged her with his raised brows.
"Good then if it means your going to stop acting like my Father". Liz took his spoon, taking a small piece out of the cake.
"Seriously Liz, I don´t think your Dad and I have much in common". Max then scooped a spoon full the cake, and stuffed it in his mouth.
Eating, Max then said to Liz. "Liz I wanted to apologise about what happened last year about the scholarship".
"Max it´s the past, it happened". Liz replied eating some more.
"Liz, I was really unfair to you last year. I always thought that your Dad gave you everything you wanted, that´s why I went off at your that time".
There was no way on earth that Liz was going to tell Max that she had actually pulled her application out, but said instead.
"Max it looks like that best man won anyway, so lets just forget about it".
Liz said as she looked down at her spoon full of strawberrys and cream.

Hi everyone thanks again for the fb.
LoveIsForever, yeah I thought Liz needed to pull the breaks on Max too! And talking to Maria did the trick.
Roswellluver, yep that was a long over-due apology.
anoymousarfan, Max is in the situation where he´s hiding the truth about his virginity from the guys, so not being able to have anyone to talk to about everything, he´s confused, but then are´nt most men. So he is torn between his feelings and the truth.
Dreamer_Dreaming, it´s good to see you back after a week, thanks for reading again.
Kel227, I know what took the boy so long to figure that out? I had been debating with myself about how I was going to let the truth out about that one. Yes it will kill Liz when she finds out, but your got the right frame of mind when it comes to the final outcome. I think your like the next part.
Hey Liz, yes our Max is a bit slow on the uptake when it comes to Liz. Yes he´s going to break her heart to pieces, and really I´m trying to get up to that part. LOL. Don´t grab for the tissues just yet, you make me wanna cry too, and I haven´t even written that part yet.
Typing as fast as she can, take care everyone

Part 15
A week later.
"Hey Max I think I could really get used to eating strawberry and cream sponge cake with you". Liz smiled at him as he took a spoon full of cream and delicately placed the spoon inside her mouth.
Max watched how Liz devoured the cream, restraining his self-control for the upteempth time that week.
Not sure if he was acting on his feelings or acting because of the bet, Max fingered his spoon nervously in between his fingers. Watching the spoon drop to the table, he blushed slightly then jerked his head up to face Liz.
"Is everything OK with you Max? Your´ve been really quiet nearly the whole day". Liz placed her spoon on the side of the plate a bunch of nerves.
"Liz, I don´t know how to say this but..."
"What Max"? Liz looked at him curiously.
Racking his fingers on the table-top, Max spat out nervously.
"Liz will you go out will me"? He asked her finally.
Staring wide-eyed at him, the jaw of her mouth dropped, then realising that Max had a good eye full of her tonsils, Liz clapped her mouth together and asked him. "You wanna go out with me"?
"Yeah, you know". He rolled his eyes upwards, having never asked a girl to go out with him in his whole life. "I wanna know if your be my girlfriend". Max admitted, not being able to bring his eyes to to Liz´s face.
"Max". Liz said catching his attention.
"Yeah Liz". Max jumped slightly in his seat.
"Your want me to be your girl-friend"? She asked him, fidgeting nervously with her fingers.
Then sliding her hands over to hers, Max covered Liz´s tiny hands and inhaling deeply said adamantly. "Yes. I want you to be my girl-friend".
Blushing a crimson red, Liz then melted into her seat, this was everything she had ever hoped to have with Max and more, she couldn´t remember how long she had dreamed of this moment.
Composing herself Liz slipped a, "yes", from her lips.
Feeling the softness of Liz´s skin underneath his fingers Max then asked. "So you mean it your really want to go out with me"? Max asked blushing himself, needing to hear Liz´s answer again.
"Yes Max, I really mean it". Liz reassured him, leaning her body over the table.
Lifting Liz´s hands to his lips, Max grazed her soft skin with his lips, his amber eyes fixated to Liz´s chocolate pools.
"I´ll try to make you happy". Max´s said as his heart beat in his heart.
"I know you will". Liz replied, knowing she would remember this moment for the rest of her life.

Later on that day an estatic Liz dialled Maria´s phone number up.
"Maria". Her name rolled off of Liz´s tongue.
"Lizzie, hi I wasn´t expecting you to ring until tomorrow". Maria grinned at the surprise call from Liz.
"I know, I know, but Maria your never guess what"? Liz asked her cryptically.
Thinking for one whole second Maria replied. "No, just tell me".
"Maria, Max asked me out today. Liz said practically jumping up and down for joy.
"Oh Liz, wow, I can´t believe this". A stunned Maria responded.
"I know, I couldn´t believe it myself". Liz lay on the couch, her long hair flaying over the surface.
"Tell me everything". Maria sat down in a comfortable position demanding her friendship rights on the whole story.
Then in as much detail as she could give Maria, Liz told her the whole story about being asked out by Max.
After hearing the story Maria asked. "So did he kiss you then"?
"Yeah he did Maria". Liz admitted grinning girlishly.
Then Maria gave Liz the run down about losing her petals again.
"Maria, I know I have to prick him with my thorns". Liz rolled her eyes in her head.
"Liz, if it wasn´t for the fact that I´m in LA right now and not by your side I wouldn´t have anything to worry about. But your all alone now, and your Max Evans girl-friend, and although I love you to pieces, I know how crazy you are about this guy". Maria said wisely with her hand pressed firmly to her hip.
"Yeah I know Maria, but then what do I do when things start to heat up between Max"? Liz asked seriously about her question.
"Liz, I´ve been saving this for a rainy day, but if things do heat up between you and Max, then this is my suggestion. Just think of me with my hands on my hips, staring down at you and Max with my eyes wide open and very angry".
"Maria, do you think that´s really going to work"? Liz raised her eyebrow up skeptically.
"I don´t know, but it can´t hurt to try it in times of need". Maria shrugged her shoulders.
"You know that is a real mood killer Maria". Liz replied honestly.
"That´s the point". Maria said slapping her hand against her lap convinced that Liz was able to fight off any lack of will-power on her part.

A few days later as Max was sitting at home studying, the telephone rung.
Answering the phone, Max was surprised to hear his sister Isabel.
"Izzy, hey I wasn´t expecting to hear your voice". Max ran his hand through his hair.
"I know, but I had to ring you up and tell you something". Isabel shot a cold look at a girl waiting in line to use the telepone after her.
"What is it Iz"? Max asked wondering what could be so important.
"Max I was talking to Mom, this morning". Isabel began telling him.
"Nothings wrong with Mom and Dad is there"? Max asked his heart pacing rapidly.
"No, nothing like that. Actually it´s about Liz Parker". Isabel admitted, leaning across the wall of her dorm.
"What about Liz Parker"? Max whole demeanor changed, unsure what Isabel could possibly have to say about Liz.
"Look, Mom was talking to Maria DeLuca´s Mom the other day".
"Yeah Izzy go on".
"And Mom and Mrs DeLuca were talking about what we were up to and what Maria was up too".
"Iz just get to Liz would you"? He said impatiently.
"Anyway, Mom mentioned to Mrs DeLuca that you won a scholarship to go to Stanford". Isabel then paused, turning her back on the waiting girl.
"Iz would you just cut to the case"? Max said irritated.
"Max, I´m getting there". She said adamantly. "Anyway, when Mom mentioned you winnng the scholarship to Stanford, Mrs DeLuca said she knew because Liz Parker was going up for the same scholarship and pulled her application out". Isabel finally explained.
"What the hell"? Max spat in the telephone.
"I know, that´s what I said too, but Mom said that she had heard that both you and Liz were going up for the same scholarship and that you had won it fairly, but Mrs DeLuca said she knew for sure that Liz pulled her application form out because Maria slipped it out by accident and told her Mom the whole story...... Max, Max you did not just hang the telepone up on me". Isabel looked at the phone in her hand. "I am so going to kill you next time I talk to you". Isabel slammed the phone down.
Seeing the girl behind her laughing at her, Isabel put on her best Ice Princess face on and said to the girl.
"Oh I just remembered I have to ring up my Mom now". She then turned and started dialling the phone number, smiling as she heard the girl behind her moaning in the back-ground.
While on the other side of the country, Max had just grabbed his jacket hanging up and was rushing quickly out of the door. Slamming the door hurriedly behind himself, Max knew that he had to talk to Liz about the scholarship, and somehow fix up his unjustice that he had caused to Liz.
Knowing that Liz had been keeping this a whole thing a secret, he only hoped that she would admit the truth to him about the application, as he ran out of the building and down the road.

Hi everyone, I´m loved reading the fb, thank-you.
AngelOhana, welcome to this fic, glad you loved the last part. I know having Maria standing over Liz and Max would be definitely be a mood killer. LOL. When LoveIsForever wrote this challenge up, I knew it would a real heart-breaker, I only hope I doing her challenge justice.
VeronicB, the Max in this fic, is totally different from his normal character. He can be so self-centered, and he needed to realise eventually that Liz is a good person. Men???
AznGurl87, so you hooked huh! Always good to hear. Finally the boy asked Liz out, for good or bad intentions. Hopefully your like the next part too.
Extingman, it´s hard to believe that there´s a happy ending after reading the prologue, it´s really difficult to respect Max with how he´s been handling things with Liz and the bet. Alot of times while writing this, in the back of my head I´ve thought, ´he doesn´t deserve Liz, what a pig `, all I can say is that Max does go through his own personal hell for awhile, which is understandable.
And no your not pathetic for whining, I think if someone else had of written this challenge and I had of read, I would have been in the same boat as you.
LoveIsForever, so happy you loved the last part! (Maia has a silly smile on her face).
I see your reasoning with that, and after reading the next part, then hopefully your like what I´ve done. Exactly the next part is pivotal because it´s the difference between Max accepting that Liz would do anything for him or not.
I am really touched that I had you crying before the truth of the bet comes out, because your challenge was a real tear-jerker from the start. I only hope that the next couple of parts don´t disappoint you.
kittens, like I told Extingman, yes it is hard to believe that this story has a happy end. Max has been nothing but an ass to Liz, and he does need to be going down on his knees, I totally agree, and the next couple of parts will reveal how Max handles everything.
Roswellluver, yes finally Max knows the truth about Liz´s sacrifice, I always thought that if Max hadn´t of had a big hang-up on Liz back in Roswell he would have treated Liz totally different.
Thanks again for the fb
Maia
Part 16a
A dishevelled Max ran down the street that Liz lived oblivious to anything around him. Thinking that he saw Liz´s tiny figure in the distance, he ran across the road.
"Shrreecckk"!!!! The tyres of a SUV sounded as the driver instantly put his foot down on the breaks.
Max halted his run momentarily, his hands fell onto the front of the vehicle. With his eyes bugging out of his head Max realised that he hadn´t watched out for traffic as he crossed over the street.
Winding down the window the, an exasperated Max said softly. "Sorry Mister".
"Ass-hole". The man yelled at him.
But turning his head, Max noticed Liz´s small frame walk towards the building door.
"LIZ"! Max yelled out, "LIZ"! He called out to her again, running after her again, not caring about the driver of the car anymore.
Taking her keys out of her jacket pocket, Liz was about to unlock the door, when she heard who she thought was Max yelling out her name. Pausing she turned in the direction of the shouting, to see Max nearing herself. Juggling her shopping bag, onto her hips, Liz´s face broke out into a smile but then her face frowned when Max was only a few feet away from her.
"Max what´s the matter with you"? Liz asked worriedly, as she took in Max´s unusually upheavelled appearance.
"Liz I gotta talk to you now". Max held onto her arm, leading Liz hurriedly to the door.
"Max why are you acting like this"? She frowned, looking down at Max´s hand which had an unruelly hard grip on her arm.
"Look, I´m sorry". Max jerked his hand away. "But I need to talk to you now". Max said demandingly, waiting for Liz to unlock the door.
"Is there something I did wrong, are you mad at me"? Liz asked a flurry of questions, Max´s strange behaviour making Liz nervous.
"I don´t want to talk about this on the streets, can we just go upstairs to your apartment"? Max said closing his eyes momentarily to gather his thoughts. Holding the door open for Liz to go in, Max tried to slow down the rapid beat of his heart beat.
"Then come on inside". Liz replied to him, and they both made there way upstairs in an uneasy silence.
Once inside Liz´s apartment, Max stood nervously by the window looking outside while Liz put her groceries away.
"Max, I´m really scared you know. I mean I wasn´t expecting you to come around like this". Liz watched him carefully, as she packed the items away.
"Liz you have no reason to be scared of me". Max turned around with a void expression on his face. "I´m sorry if I scared you but I think you need to be telling me about the scholarship I won".
Diverting her eyes, Liz fidgeted with a packet in her hand. "What´s there to say Max". Liz feigned a shaky smile on her face. "You won the scholarship and I didn´t. End of story". Liz then turned her back on him, putting the packet away.
"Liz don´t give me that crap". A frustrated Max said as he bounded towards Liz in the kitchenette.
Feeling like a trapped mouse in a corner, Liz swung around to meet Max, her feet walking backwards so that she leaned against the kitchen counter.
"Max what are trying to say"? Liz asked, her voice quivering.
"Liz I know that you pulled your application out for the scholarship last year, so cut the crap out". Max said angrily, unconsciously he grabbed Liz´s forearms in both of his hands.
"Max please". Liz whimpered, as she put her head down and broke out into tears.
"Why Liz? Why"? A still frustrated Max asked trying to look under the waterfall of brown hair that sheltered her face.
"Just let me go"! Liz said brokenly, lifting her face up to him.
Seeing the obvious pain in her eyes, Max gently let her forearms go.
"Please Liz, I have to know why you did that for me"? He asked desperately searching Liz´s face for answers.
Licking at some tears that had fallen down to the corner of her lips, Liz then softly said. "I......I ...can´t tell you". She admitted hopelessly.
Knowing he had caused all this pain that rested in her eyes, Max raised his hand up to the side of her face, he felt the soft skin underneath his palm, moving his fingers tentatively over her face, Max´s own ambers eyes were covered with unanswered insecurites.
"Just tell me why Liz"? His voice asked evenly.
Feeling Max´s fingers gently wiping at her tears, her breathing stuttered as she said. "Max I pulled out my application because...". She adverted her eyes away.
"Because of what Liz"? Max spoke softly.
"Because I have always loved you". Liz admitted as her face creased into exhaustion now that she had revealed her true feelings to Max.

Hi everyone, sorry about yesterday, I wanted so much to continue the post again, but my doorbells been ringing or my telephones been going crazy, and yes I´m expecting more people on my doorstep today, not that I´m complaining, it just takes me away from my own little Roswell world.
strawberry_dreamer, I think you may like the next post, umm it´s hard to say.
Extingman, it´s still a 50-50 call, at the moment, I can´t say anymore, (I know, I know, these writers), but I can´t let the cat out of the bag yet. But because Liz is in love with Max, she will be faced with some of her toughest tests. Max on the other hand yes I´m afraid everyone is going to want to literally kill him, because Liz has no idea about the bet. I do really wish I could tell you´s everything, and I love the fb you write back to me. And your ideas of what could happen next are very good points.
I just wanna thank-you so much for the unbelievably huge compliment, and that you value my writing so much. Wow, that´s like all a writer could ever want to hear in ones life. I am really humbled.
Dreamer_Dreaming, are you from England by chance? Just your last piece of fb, reminded me so much of Steptoe and Son, if you know the show. LOL.
LoveIsForever, thanks again for the fb, did you get the pm?
VeronicB, I know, I know. LOL. You know I had visitors around home practically the whole day until about 8.30pm, I tried to post after cutting the last part short, but then ding-dong the bell goes again. Then I after that, I was on the phone until 10.30 am, a woman from back home called me up, and then this morning one of my friends come around for breakfast. Then another one of my friends knocked on the door, during breakfast as well. Seriously, I love my friends and family, but I´m thinking that I might just take the phone off the hook for a few hours. LOL.

Onto part 16b
Exerts from the previous part
Knowing he had caused all this pain that rested in her eyes, Max raised his hand up to the side of her face, he felt the soft skin underneath his palm, moving his fingers tentatively over her face, Max´s own amber eyes were covered with unanswered insecurites.
"Just tell me why Liz"? His voice asked evenly.
Feeling Max´s fingers gentily wiping at her tears, her breathing stuttered as she sai. "Max I pulled out my application because....". She adverted her eyes away.
"Because of what Liz"? Max spoke softly.
"Because I have always loved you". Liz admitted as her face creased into exhaustion now that she had revealed her true feelings to Max.
"I´m so sorry Liz". He looked deeply into her eyes, searching her darkened pools in doubt.
"For what"? Liz sighed, a deep sorrow of regret shadowing her face, burrowing the inner turmoil that had fested itself into her soul. She blinked more tears away, sorry now that she had admitted her true feelings for him.
Then surrounding Liz in his arms he leaned his strickened face against her head and whispered softly. "That I was fool enough not to have known".
As his words filtered into her minds, Liz´s chest heaved uncontrollably, as she broke into a heart relieved set of new tears.
Feeling her body convulse against his, Max pulled Liz tigher against him, her arms entwined themselves around his middle, he closed his eyes, his thick lashes fighting back his own tears that were escaping slowly down his face. Then laying his soft lips on the flawless skin of her forehead, with his arms around her shoulders, Max pulled his face away from her head, running his fingers over the silkiness of her hair.
"Liz, I have been such a fool". Max kissed her tears gently, tasting the remnants of her pain.
Revelling in the fondness of Max´s soft touch, Liz tried to bring her faltering chest to a halt. Her breathing still somewhat ragged.
Leaning there foreheads together, Liz moved her arms away from his waist, bringing them between their bodies so that they lay then against Max´s chest. Seeking comfort from Max´s amber eyes, Liz then softly said. "I feel like a fool, for crying and everything". She mentioned also about her admittance.
"No Liz, your anything but a fool". Max stretched his fingers lazily through her hair. "Your...your just so.....beautiful". The words escaped from his mouth, the only fitting words Max could find at this moment. Then inhaling deeply, Max placed his hands on the side of Liz´s beautiful face. Leaning his lips, nearer to hers, Max kissed Liz softly, savouring the sensation. As he thought, that he had never known anyone outside of his family that had ever sacrificed so much for him before and that maybe he should open his heart to her, and cherish her for who she was.
Leading Liz to the couch, Max pulled Liz into his arms when they were both seated.
Both feeling emotionally drained, Liz lay her head against Max´s chest, bringing her feet up onto the couch.
Breaking the silence Max said to her. "Liz I want to make this up to you, I´m going to the Dean tomorrow and tell him I don´t want the scholarship no more". He announced as he stared blankly ahead of himself.
"No Max you can´t do that"! Liz moved upwards so her face was facing his. "What happened with the scholarship, it happened. Like I´ve said from day one. There´s no point you doing that now. We´re both her at Stanford studying, recieving good marks and I don´t see what that´s going to do for us both now". Liz said adamantly.
"But it just makes me think, that back in Roswell I thought I won the scholarship fairly....but now, face it Liz everyone knew your marks were just as good as mine if not better. I just thought back then, I had the extra edge in the end that´s why I won, but now I´m not sure about that at all". He said defeatively.
"Max if my marks were better or not, in the end it was my decision to pull the application out". Liz sat back up, as she tried to make Max realise that it made no difference now.
"But if I hadn´t had bullied you that day, then you wouldn´t have done anything, and I may have very well had of lost the scholarship to you".
Max clasped his hands over his nose and mouth exhaling deeply into his hands, his eyes bewildered.
"But you aplogised for that, that day at the cafe". Liz rolled her eyes in her head and slapped her hands on her laps in frustration.
"But Liz..." Max went to add his opinion to everything, when Liz leaned over and rested her fingers gently against Max´s lips. Stopped in mid sentence, Max´s eyes adverted from side to side, pondering her eyes.
"I don´t want to hear anymore buts from you Max, because I´m not going to let you ruin your life or mine because of this scholarship". Liz said as a smile brightened her calmed face again, as Max pulled Liz over to him so that she was sitting on his lap, in his arms once more.
"But..". He tried to say, but his lips were met this time with an outstretched finger, when Liz pushed her body away from his slightly.
"No, like I said no more buts from you Max, lets just live for the moment and don´t dwell on the past anymore". Liz eyes danced in merriment, when Max broke out into his own heart warmth full smile.
"I´ll try Liz". He replied before pulling Liz back into his arms.

Hi everyone, thanks once again for leaving the fb. It was really pleasing to see that everyone enjoyed the last part.
strawberry_dreamer, the next part will be able to explain your question, glad you lovd the last part, althought I´m doubting you will the next part, you gotta read it for yourself.
VeronicB, thanks for the fb, I should be thanking my regulars for staying with me this long.
Dreamer_Dreaming, thanks as well for the fb. Yes Max is coming a roundnow, (at last). Not from England then, yeah I love the way they talk too. Your last piece of fb had me thinking that you were. LOL, I really thought you were a Pom.
anonymousarfan, I know, I hadn´t intientionally meant to leave you´s like taht, so I know I had to get the next part posted and make it really special after the early cut-off, Whew, good to hear you thought it was great though!!! I had always planned that Max finding out about the scholarship would be the event that would make him finally realise that Liz was the darling she is, and that he would then change his ways. Your find out in the next part, what Max does about the bet. Coming back shortly.
LoveIsForever, no wedging them apart yet. Just bringing them together, for the next climatic event, yeah originally Max was only dating Liz because of the bet, and start having a tiny bit of happiness with Liz until....well you know when.
Liz, hey don´t worry about missing the 3 parts, I know that your life is really busy and everything, yeah I know what you mean about life being crazy right now, same here but now everythings starting to slow down a tiny bit.
Take care all, and thanks one more time for the fb.

Part 17
Exerts from the last part
"But..."- He tried to say, but his lips were met this time with an outstretched finger, when Liz pushed her body away from his slightly.
"No, like I said no more buts from you Max, lets just live for the moment and don´t dwell on the past anymore". Liz´s eyes danced in merriment, when Max broke out into his own heart warmth full smile.
"I´ll try Liz". He replied before pulling Liz back into his arms.
"Liz but if you don´t want me to got to the Dean and withdraw from the scholarship programme, then I want to at least be able to help you somehow. With some financial costs or anything". Max offered her, looking tiredly into her chocolate pools.
Entwining her hands around Max´s neck Liz replied reassuringly. "Max really I do have everything covered, and I do want to prove to my parents that I can make it on my own without their financial help, really believe me". Liz said softly emphasising the last words in particular.
Liz sunk her head to the side so adoringly Max could have almost agreed to anything Liz said at that moment, but blinking his eyes back into reality he then said skeptically. "Liz how can you say that? I mean if you can´t accept money from your parents, then you can at least accept some financial help from me". His eyes widened, not believing how Liz could not accept his offer.
"Max really, I love being able to be completely independant, and in the end I have the satisfaction of knowing that I accomplished this all by myself, rather than becoming a charity case. Besides what are you going to do, pay for my rent or something noble like that? What about your own rent"? Liz frowned at him unbelievably.
"Liz I wasn´t saying that your a charity case". Max responded by sighing, knowing deep down inside that no matter what he said to Liz, she wouldn´t accept any money from him, no matter how hard her living circumstances were.
"Besides Max, it´s nothing that I haven´t already done nearly my whole life". Liz crossed her fingers behind the nape of Max´s neck. "It´s rewarding enough to have known that I achieved all of this by myself, and although this apartment is nothing like what I had back in Roswell, it´s still my home". Liz studied the surroundings of her small apartment, happy and content.
"Liz I know your happy with your life now but, I mean today you say that but what about tomorrow if you get sick or something, then are you telling me that your going to be able to hold down a job and study at the same time"?
Then facing Max´s placid face Liz then said. "Max I may very well get sick tomorrow, I may not, but I´m not going to think about hypothetical theories that at the moment don´t exist. All I know is that in the long run the few years that I do have at Stanford are going to be worth the future ahead of me once I´ve graduated. With studying, working, and now that your in my life that is". Looking intently into Max´s eyes. "The time will be worth it, all of it". Her voice lowered down to a small whisper.
"So your saying that you won´t accept my offer then"? Max questioned her wanting to burrow himself into Liz´s warm embrace, but instead pulled her body closer to his.
"Well". Liz smiled with her face leaning against Max´s hardened chest.. "You can take me out for the occassional meal if you like, or maybe pay for the odd coffee or two"? Liz said jokingly.
"I think I can arrange that". Max grinned lazily, then pecking Liz on the crown of her head sat there just holding Liz in a comfortable silence.
Wondering what he had ever done in life to deserve all of what Liz had done for him.
Leaving Liz some hours later, Max walked out into the cover of darkness, stuffing his hands in his jacket pockets, Max hadn´t been prepared at all for the events of the last few hours.
With his eyes looking into the shadows of darkened stillness, he walked the short distance back to his apartment.
To say that Liz´s revelations about the scholarship had been something monumental in his life was an understatement. It was probably the biggest sacrifice anyone had done for himself apart from his parents. Max mused over every last word Liz had said to him. The words affecting him the most, ´Because I have always loved you `, kept repeating themselves in his head like a mantra.
He really had been an ignorant fool to say the least, and although Max had heard Liz telling him over and over again, that she expected no financial help from him in the future, Max decided once and for all what he would do, as he turned the last corner to his apartments building. He knew that he didn´t love Liz, his ignorance towards her had meant that he hadn´t even thought about developing those sorts of emotions for her yet. But then smiling to himself, he knew he would chance it with Liz, that he would try to give his relationship with Liz a real chance. While his subjectivity had gotten the better all forms of objectivity were thrown out the window. Then shaking the warm feelings of actually being in a relatioship Max realised he was suddenly standing outside his apartment door again. Turning back to look down the hallway, Max chuckled to himself, finding that he had his keys in his hand and without even really realising it had let himself inside the building.
Hearing noises coming from behind the door, he unlocked the door, and walked inside to find Kyle, Michael and a few of the other guys surrounding the kitchen counter.
"Hey Max our man". Michael lifted his beer to Max in acknowledgement.
"Guys". Max sullenly replied, as he took off his jacket hanging it up on a hook.
"So hows it going between you and Lizzie Parker"? Kyle grinned at Max in a drunkien stupor.
Not wanting to discuss anything about Liz with them at all Max replied.
"Fine"- then going straight towards his books that were still laid out on the table where he had left them earlier on in the day. Hearing jeckles from a few of the other guys, Max ignored them all gathering his pens and other stationary together, packing them away.
"How about joining us for a few beers Max"? Kyle then asked him, leering at Max on the end of his seat.
"No thanks". Max said packing his books together. "I´ve got an early day tomorrow". Then with his things securely in his arms, Max left the guys as he made a quick escape to his bedroom.
Closing the door behind him, Max sunk to the floor below, his books spreading out onto the floor, as his arms relaxed, and he sat there defeatively. Hearing the loudness of laughter and cheering from in the kitchenette.
Closing his eyes Max decided right then, that there was no way he could tell Liz the truth of the bet. Not when he wanted to give her a real chance to get to know him, and he wanted the same too. To get to know the real Liz Parker. The girl that had so unselfishly sacrificed so much for him. Although at that moment Max thought he was making the right decision, in not telling Liz the truth Max could not foresee the consequences of his fatal mistake, and the tragic events that would occur in the not so far future.

I´m just trying to figure out how to approach this next part, and will post again when possible. Thanks for reading

Part 18
During the next couple of days Max spent every minute he could with Liz, while successfully avoiding his flatting buddies and the other guys.
At first tentative, Max was nonetheless willingly trying to learn more about Liz on an emotional level.
Alot of their time would be spent usually studying at Liz´s place, who also with a lap-top at her disposal made it easier for Max to be able to type up and save any neccessary assignments or tutorial work he had. Liz happily sharing her beloved commodity with him, because she could see as well how much valuable time Max saved not having to wait for the computers to free up at the University. Since they were both studying Law it also helped that they could speak about any problems or ideas they had from their lectures.
The first evening after Max had decided to put his heart into his relationship, Liz had the evening shift at the small cafe she worked at. Out of a purely unselfish gesture Max had walked Liz there, and studied at one of the tables she served until Liz had finished her shift.
"Max I´ll be finished in about another 5 minutes". Liz smiled down at him when Max peeked up from his disarray of notes and books that lay spread out on the table.
"Oh is it that late already"? Max glanced around out the window to see that darkness had befallen the streets outside.
"Yeah, it´s 10.00pm already Max". Liz giggled to herself, as she watched Max´s surprised face.
"Gosh I hope you boss didn´t mind me staying here until you finished your shift". Max blinked his soft amber eyes up to the man standing behind the counter.
"Actually Phil thinks it´s cute that my boyfriend wanted to wait and walk me home after my shift". Liz languily replied, placing one hand on the table beside her. "It´s not like the cafe was full tonight, and I only have to clear your cups and plate away really then he doesn´t mind if I go home".
"Well I´ll pack my things up then". Max said beginning to make a hasty stack together of his papers.
"Don´t rush Max, I´ll just take your cup and plate out and I have to take my apron into the wash before I gather my belongings in my locker. I´ll need a few minutes until I´m ready anyway". Liz smiled patiently at him, before doing the last of her tasks.
Coming out of the staff room minutes later, Liz walked passed Phil.
"So I´ll see you tomorrow then Liz". The man said to her as he rung the cash register up.
"Tomorrow evening then". Liz sighed grateful that her night was slowly coming to an end.
Standing up from his table, Max slung his pack over his shoulders, walking to Liz who stood on the opposite side of the counter.
"So I´ll see you around". Max smiled at the man, then looking down at Liz, took one more step towards her, taking her small hand in his hand.
"Yeah, it was nice meeting you Max". Phil raised his chin upwards to face Max.
"I hope I wasn´t being a bother to you, waiting for Liz". Max said feeling the softness of Liz´s small hand.
"Anybody who´s a friend of Liz´s, or should I say Liz´s boyfriend is always more than welcome in my cafe". The chuffed man replied.
Blushing slightly Liz, unconsciously tightened her grip on Max´s hand.
"Thanks Phil, bye". She waved at Phil goodnight, then once all good-byes were said Max lead Liz outside into the still night.
Walking back to Liz´s apartment hand in hand the streets were practically empty as they stepped out onto the pavement.
"I don´t know how you do it Liz". Max said to her softly, as their arms swung between them.
"Do what Max"? Liz asked him, glancing into his handsome face.
"Work in the evenings, go to lectures during the day and still manage to study once you get home". Max replied in awe.
"It´s not easy, I must admit. But it´s the life I choose so I just follow through on the motions". Liz bit down on her lip nervously, blushing at Max´s observation on her life.
"It´s nothing that your haven´t done before Max". Liz said to him humbling herself and her efforts.
"Yeah but back at high school, I had my family behind me, and I know it wasn´t easy either. But now I don´t have to worry about working for a few years because of the scholarship". Max face blanketed in resentment.
"Max really I wish your´d stop mentioning the scholarship and how hard I´ve got it. I always say to myself just take life as it comes, no time for regrets and sorrows". Liz replied casually, swinging their arms a little higher.
"You know that really amazes me about you. Whereas if I had have been in your shoes, I would have moaned and groaned all the way until graduation. You just seem to take everything in stride". Max explained himself to Liz, as the faint brushes of fingers caused warm feelings inside.
"Max really, I don´t think you would have been that bad. But I´m only doing what I have to do to keep me going. Dwelling on what could have been isn´t good for anyone, and you should really try to have a more positive outlook on how everything has worked out". Liz said very wisely to him. "Just be happy that your here, because if you had have been stuck with anything less you would have been unhappy. As for me, be happy that I´m here too, because I am....especially now that I have you in my life". Liz whispered softly, turning into Max´s body.
"Your just so beautiful". Max´s head fell slightly to the side, his warm amber eyes flushed with extreme admiration for the small slip of a woman that stood before him.
"I´ve never met anyone like you before in my life Liz". Max raised the fingers of his hand to the silk-like skin of Liz´s face.
Pursing her lips together Liz found herself becoming hypnotised by the softness of Max´s beautiful amber eyes. He held her gaze, slowly leaning into Liz´s face, his warm lips closing the small gap until his lips lay on hers.
Tasting Max´s lips, Liz closed her eyes as she suckled gently on his bottom lip, the soft sensations of Liz´s mouth on him caused Max to pull Liz closer into his arms, entwining her body in his hold.
As butterflies swept through her stomach, Liz smiled, and she pulled away from Max, her eye lids fluttering with the tiny pleasure of having kissed Max.
"I think we better get going now". Liz slide her tongue over her bottom lip, relishing where Max´s lips had just been.
"Oh yeah"- Max replied breaking himself out of the self-imposed hypnotising stare he had on his face watching that small action of Liz´s.
"Home it is". Max whispered to Liz, pulling her body into his side, Liz grinned leaning her head against Max´s chest. The with his arm Max surrounded Liz protectively as they continued on their way.
Once Max and Liz were standing outside her apartment, she said to Max.
"I was going to stay up and study some more, do you wanna come in for a drink or something"?
"Yeah sure" Max took up the offer, anything to spend some more time with her.
Walking inside, Max helped Liz take her jacket off, and hung it up for her before doing the same with his own jacket.
"What do you want to drink, I was going to make me a hot cocoa". Liz turned to him before gracefuly walking into her tiny kitchenette.
"Yeah sounds good to me". Max walked over with his pack in his hand.
"Just settle yourself down Max, I just wanna to wash up and have a quick shower". Liz said as she pulled the neccessary things down for the cups of cocoa.
"Here let me do that for you". Max plonked his pack down and walked into the kitchentte.
"If you don´t mind". Liz replied to him.
"No not at all, do you take sugar"? Max then asked, finding the spoon.
"Yeah 2 teaspoons. I won´t be long then". She then said before leaving Max alone to make the drinks.
About 15 minutes later Liz walked out of the bathroom, her hair dampened and feeling more refreshed.
"I´ll just warm the water up for you again". Max offered getting up from his seat that he had made for himself on the floor.
"Thanks Max". Liz replied to him, as she run a brush through her long hair.
Max sneaking a peek from inside the kitchenette watched Liz as she brushed her long tresses.
Liz catching Max staring at her giggled. "So what were you able to find out on that research paper you have"? Liz asked him, watching as Max turned his back on her embarassed, trying to gather his thoughts.
"Oh just that the case Hammond Vs Leigh back in the 18 hundreds set the precendent on all similar cases that followed up until this day". Max stirred her drink once he had poured the hot water into her cup.
"Yeah Professor Gains said that it was the first case of it´s kind in Legal History". Liz added, remembering the notes she had jotted down in the lecture.
"Yeah I missed that point". Max sighed disappointely at himself.
"Oh it´s hard keeping up with all the notes in Professor Gains lectures, the man really knows his stuff, but seems to forget that we´re only first year Law Students. Sometimes his lectures go so fast, I wonder if I have taken down all the neccessary notes myself". Liz replied seeing the dejected look on Max´s face.
"Look don´t worry about it so much Max, we all miss notes now and again". Liz reassured him. "Why don´t we just sit down and go over everything together". Liz called out to him, taking her brush back into the bathroom.
"Yeah I suppose". Max then said, bringing Liz´s cup and sitting it on the table.
After hours of studying together, Liz who had positioned herself next to Max on the floor when they began studying slowly leaned onto Max´s arm, exhausted from her the studying.
"Liz"- Max whispered to her.
"Mmmm". Liz replied still with her eyes closed.
"It looks like it´s time for someone to go to bed now". Max grinned sleepily as he slipped his arms underneath Liz´s tiny body, and lifting her into his arms.
Maneouvuring himself upwards, Max walked into Liz´s bedroom. As her tiny figure lay in his arms, Max noted how peaceful Liz appeared when she slept. Going over to the shadows that made out her bed, Max lay Liz gently down.
"MMmmm Max". Liz mumbled out to him.
"Yeah I´m still here. Max grinned at her, pulling the blankets down from her bed, and slipping Liz´s body underneath them.
Once he pulled the blankets over Liz, Max went to the curtains of the window, he was about to draw them closed when he turned back to look at Liz´s sleeping body.
As the soft lights from the street lamps outside shone onto Liz´s face, Max sighed deeply, unconsciously he moved back to the bed.
Kicking his shoes off, Max had only meant to lie on the bed next to Liz so he could study her Angelic face. As he tentatively stroked his fingers against the softness, Max stared into Liz´s face for ages, completely in awe by her beauty, until also falling to exhaustion Max fell asleep on the bed next to Liz as well.
