Chapter Ten

“Max,” Liz gasped loudly when she turned around and saw him standing there. She stood there standing by the entrance of the Hotel, rooted to the spot.

“W-what are you doing here?” She asked, her eyes widened in shock. So much for trying to avoid him this weekend. She hadn’t expected to see him so soon!

“What are you doing here?” Max asked, his eye’s never leaving her’s.

“I- I’m here on-” Liz started but was interrupted abruptly by Max.

“On vacation with your boyfriend?” He shot a glance at the man who stood behind Liz. “Or is it your husband? I’m sorry I wasn’t too clear on that one.”

He’s mad, Liz thought as she looked at his face. And dammit he has absolutely no reason to be mad at me! He’s the one with the kid

“How dare you,” Liz started, pointing an angry finger at his face, “How dare you come here and start talking to me about what strictly does not concern you! My personal life is none of your damned business!”

She turned around and faced the man who had called for her car’s only minutes early.

“How much more time until the car get’s here??” She asked the man, eager to get the hell out of here as fast as she could. She couldn’t go back inside the hotel, he would simply follow her back to her room. The car seemed to be the only solution to get out of here.

“It should be here any second now,” The man answered, curiously shooting a glance at Max.

“Liz, your not going anywhere,” Max said grabbing her arm and turning her towards him. Liz quickly pulled away from his touch.

“Stay the hell away from me,” She said angrily as a Brendan’s white Mercedes suddenly pulled up behind her.

She turned on her heels and walked around the car as the man opened the front door for her. She got inside the car and the passenger door suddenly swung open and Max got in beside her.

“I’m not going anywhere until we talk,” He said stubbornly. “You owe me that much Liz. After everything you’ve done to me over the years, everything you’ve done to your friends back in Roswell and everything you did to your parents, the least you can do is talk to me.”

“I don’t owe you anything,” Liz said, anger building more and more inside of her, causing her blood to boil. “You’re the one who drove me out of Roswell! All of you! I made the right choice and I don’t regret leaving Roswell one second!” She pause and took a deep breath, “Now get out of the car, get out of my life or I swear I’m gonna get my husband to kick your ass!”

Little white lie won’t hurt anyone, Liz thought quickly as she saw the pain form on his face and slowly began to regret her words.

But not quite.

“Just go back to your son and Tess or whatever and leave me alone, okay?” Liz said, a little more gently this time. “I’ll be gone in less than four day’s. Just keep quiet and don’t tell anybody that you saw me.”

She turned and looked at his face, not daring herself to look into his eye’s.

He grabbed the car handle, opened the door and stepped out of the car, looking back at her once more before closing the door behind him.

And that’s when Liz made the mistake to look at him but to really look at him. His face was filled with confusion and pain as he looked down at her through the window of the car.

Finally he turned and walked away back inside the Hotel.

Liz let out a shaky sighed and pressed her heard against the steering wheel. Unable to keep everything bottled up inside anywhere, she let the tears spill down her face.

**************************************************************************************

Philip Evans glimpsed at his watch eagerly. This meeting had been going on for the last hour and he was bored already. He couldn’t stop thinking about Max and that Parker girl. He couldn’t bear to think of the look on his son’s face when he had spotted Liz Parker earlier at the Hotel with that man, Brendan. And that man happened to be sitting directly across from him in the brightly lit conference room that was situated right smack in the middle of New York City.

Philip looked around, taking in every single person in the room as Eric Chasse, one of the best Attorney’s from Boston, drowned on. From the tall, brown haired middle aged man that was sitting to his right to the black-haired women sitting at the far-end of the table.

Finally he rested his eye’s on the famous Brendan Harris. The guy who was supposedly Liz Parker’s boyfriend. Or so that’s what had seemed when he had spotted them earlier this morning.

No engagement ring, Philip thought as his eye’s scanned Brendan’s hand. No wedding band either. Max will be happy to know that.

“Alright everyone let’s take a quick break.” Eric Chasse said, placing his folder on the table. “Meet back here in fifteen minutes.”

People all around scrambled to get up, each and everyone of them eager to get out of this hot and sticky room.

Philip watched as Brendan stood up from his chair and headed for the door. Philip stood up after him and followed him outside the room.

I’ll talk to him, Philip thought, I’ll see what I can get out of him about Liz Parker.

“Mr. Harris?” Philip said loudly when the two were standing outside the room. Brendan was pulling out his cell phone when he heard his name and turned around.

“Yes?” He said, turning and looking straight at Philip.

“Philip Evans,” Philip said, holding out his hand. Brendan shook it. “I’ve got my own small firm in New Mexico.”

“Oh, yeah,” Brendan said, grinning. “I read your name off a list somewhere.”

“I got to say I feel pretty damned impress,” Philip said, smiling back. “Here I am standing next to one of the best Lawyer’s on the West Coast.”

“Hey, I’m not that good.” Brendan said, “Really, my dad just likes to exaggerate and make a big deal out of me being a Lawyer and following in his footsteps.”

“So where you from Mr.Harris?” Philip asked, trying to sound normal.

“San Francisco,” Brendan answered, the smile never leaving his face. “And, please, call me Brendan.”

“Alright, Brendan.” Philip said. “So, San Francisco, huh? Nice place to live in. And you’re here for the weekend if I’m correct? D’you leave a wife back there?”

“Oh, no.” Brendan said, “I’m not married. I did bring my girlfriend along for he weekend though. And I’m actually planning on proposing to her this weekend. She doesn’t know anything about it, unless her friends told her about it. Her friends kind of have big mouths, I wouldn’t be surprised if they told her about it already.”

Max is going to be crushed when he hears about this, Philip though, clenching his teeth together.

“That sounds great,” Philip said, “You must love her very much.”

Brendan nodded, “Yeah, I do. She’s an amazing women, she’s smart, beautiful, funny, I really want to spend the rest of my life by her side.”

Philip swallowed hard. “Well, good for you.”

“What about you?” Brendan asked. “I supposed you have a wife back in New Mexico? Do you have any children?”

Philip nodded, “Yeah, I have two children. They’re pretty much all grown up though. My son, Max, he’s 25 year’s old, he’s got a 7 year old son. And my daughter, Isabel, she’s also 25 year’s old. She works for me at my law firm. I brought the here to New York with me for the weekend.”

“Wow, that sounds great.” Brendan answered, he glanced at the door to the conference room and noticed that people were starting to walk back inside.

“It’s one long meeting isn’t it?” Brendan asked, noticing that Philip was staring at the people who were started to head back inside.

“Yeah,” Philip said as the two started walking back towards the conference room. “I can’t wait for it to be over so I can head back to see my see my family.”

“Yeah, I get what your saying.” Brendan answered with a small sighed. “I’ve only been away from my girlfriend for the past hour and I miss her like crazy already.”

“It was really nice talking to you by the way.” He reached out and shook Brendan’s hand one last time before the two had to re-enter the conference room. “And good look with your girlfriend by the way. I hope it works out for you. Both of you.”

“Thanks,” Brendan answered, “And it was nice talking to you too.”

The two nodded and smiled and then entered the conference room. Philip Evans took sat down at his usual seat, his mind racing his thoughts. He just hoped that Isabel had phoned the Parker’s that their daughter was alive and was presently here in New York City.

*************************************************************

Isabel placed the phone back down on the receiver with a sighed. She had just gotten off the phone with the Parker’s. She had been on the phone with them for the past fifteen minutes. She had explained to them where they were and where they had seen Liz and with whom they had seen her with. After all the explaining she had had to listen to them crying for a good ten minutes before they had finally calmed down. They had begged her to try to get Liz to give them a call, or better yet to fly back to Roswell to see her parents. Isabel had then told them that she would try her best and the Parker’s had promised to fly down to New York if she couldn’t get Liz to give them a call.

Once she had place the phone back down, she turned back to Xander, who she had promised to buy a milkshake when she was done with the phone calls.

Of course she hadn’t had the chance to give Maria, Michael, and Kyle a call. But she promised herself that she would do just that once she had gotten her patient nephew his milkshake.

“Are you done now, Aunt Izzy?” Xander asked impatiently as he played with his toys on the floor. “You promised me a milkshake when you were done with your phone calls and you’ve been on the phone for a long time now.”

“I know, sweetie.” Isabel said, taking her nephew’s hand in her own. “I’m all done with my phone calls now though so how about we go get you that milkshake, huh?”

Xander grinned widely. “Okay,” He said. Isabel smiled back. She was hoping to get her mind off of everything that was going on right now.

“Do you think that nice lady from before would like to come get some milkshake with us?” Xander asked, curiously as Isabel led the way out of the hotel room and down to the lobby.

“Uh, honey, I don’t think so.” Isabel answered.

“She helped me find you before when I was lost,” Xander said, a small frown creasing his forehead. “I think you should buy her a milkshake.”

Isabel let out a small laugh. God this kid was adorable. He was the complete opposite of his father and he wasn’t even comparable to his mother.

“Maybe another time, okay?” Isabel answered as she led her nephew downstairs to the small café in the hotel.

“Okay, next time.” Xander answered.

Isabel ordered two drinks for both her and Xander. Once they had they’re drinks the two sat down at one of the tables by the café.

"When's daddy coming back?" Xander asked, taking a large loud sip from his chocolate milkshake. "He said he was going to take me around the city for some sight-seeing but he's not back yet."

"He'll be back soon," Isabel said, "Don't worry about it. You have all weekend to go sight-seeing anyway's."

"Good," Xander said, beaming. "Is Grandpa gonna come with us?"

"Maybe," Isabel answered, "We can ask him later when he comes back from his meeting, what do you say?"

"Okay," Xander said just as Isabel's cell phone rang. Isabel quickly reached inside her jean jacket and pulled out her cell phone. She glanced at the caller i.d and pressed the talk button.

Chapter Eleven

“Isabel Evans!”

The shrill voice belonging to Maria burst out angrily from the other end of Isabel’s cell phone. She quickly held the small device away from her ear.

“How could you!?”

“Who is it?” Xander asked curiously from across the small wooden table.

“It’s just Maria, sweetie.” Isabel told her nephew reasuringly.

“She sounds really mad,” Xander said, going back to drinking his milkshake.

I had to hear it from her parents!” Maria continued, “Why couldn’t you call us before!? Michael, Kyle, and I had a right to know!”

“Maria, I’m so sorry.” Isabel said into the phone. “I swear, I was going to call you. It’s just that I had to call Liz’s parents and the call went on for like fifteen minutes and when I finally got off the phone, Xander wanted a milkshake and I just completely forgot to give you a call, I’m so sorry.”

“It’s okay.” Maria said finally, her voice softening. “I’m sorry I went all bitchy on you, it’s just...”

“Hey don’t worry about it, I understand,” Isabel said,

“Have...have you talked to her?” Maria asked softly.

“Yeah, I did.” Isabel answered with a sighed. “Technically anyway’s. And I feel so bad now. I mean, the way I treated her.” She lowered her voice and turned her body around slight so that Xander couldn’t hear her anymore. “I went all Izzy the Ice Queen bitch on her. And I think...I think she still thinks that Max and Tess are together or something.”

Ew. Gross,” Maria said, “Did you tell her she was wrong?”

“No, I didn’t get the chance,” Isabel answered. “She took off before I could tell her. She doesn’t know...about Tess killing Alex...does she?”

“No,”. Maria answered in a small voice from the other line of the phone. “Or at least I don’t think she does. She left town before...before we found out the truth.”

“God, I was such a bitch to her,” Isabel said with a frustrated sighed. “But I just-I couldn’t help it. Ever since Liz left Roswell my brother has been completely and utterly destroyed. He’s always’s been a different person without Liz Parker in his life, and It took me all this time to figure it out. You know, ever since she left Roswell six years ago my brother hasn’t been the same. I mean, he’s depressed all the time, he barely ever goes out, he just...keeps to himself all the time. The only thing that’s keeping him sane is his son.”

“I know,” Maria replied, “He’s screwed up without her, I get that, trust me. That’s why we have to get them back together. And fast.

“She has a boyfriend, Maria.” Isabel answered, smiling slightly at Maria’s suggestion of getting Max and Liz back together. “She could even be married for I know.”

“Oh my, God, she has a boyfriend! Maria practically squealed. “Have you seen him? Is he hot??”

“I only had a glimpse of him,” Isabel answered, “We got to the hotel and we saw her with him. They were sort of hugging and we all saw it. Max went into a catonic state, I swear I’d never seen him like that before. Anyway’s, about Liz’s boyfriend, my dad said something about him being a really succesful Lawyer. His parent’s are both Lawyer’s and they’ve practically got money growing on trees in their backyards from what I heard.”

“Wow,.” Maria said over the phone, “But I mean, did you see a ring on her finger or something?”

“I don’t know if she was wearing a ring or not,” Isabel answered. “I didn’t really notice/ Or have time to notice anyway’s.” She paused, “By the way, how’s it going back in Roswell? How are Mr. And Mrs. Parker? How are they doing?”

“They’re complete wrecks, Iz.” Maria answered sadly. “They’ve been crying a lot.”

“God, I can only imagine what they’re going through.” Isabel said. “Look, Max went after Liz. He wanted to talk to her and so her went after her. He should be back any minute now.”

“Wait, he what!?” Maria practically exploded over the phone. ”His highness went after Liz and you didn’t stop him?? She was pissed off at him when she left town, for God’s sake he’s probably one of the reason’s she left Roswell, and now your telling me that he went after to her to try to talk to her?? She’s probably still really mad at him. She’s just going to tell him to get right out of her life.”

“What was I supposed to do? What was I supposed to tell him?” Isabel asked, “You know how he get’s when he make’s up his mind, their’s no changing it. And what else should we have done? Somebody had to talk to her and I pretty much scared her off before.”

“What about your father?” Maria asked, “He could of tried to talk to her. Him being a father figure and all.

“My dad left for a meeting,” Isabel explained. “One which I was supposed to attend only Xander couldn’t stay here all by himself.”

“I’m buying a plane thicket.” Maria said suddenly out of nowhere. “I’m flying to New York first thing tommorow.

Before Isabel could reply, she heard a sudden struggle coming from the other line of the phone.

“Spaceboy, you give me that phone back right this instance! I’ll slap you! ”

“Isabel?” A voice came on the phone. Michael’s voice. Iz, it’s me. Listen we have a problem.

*************************************************************

Max walked down the sidewalk, his head racing with thoughts.

Liz Parker was married.

One of his nightmares had come true. She was married.

And part of it was his fault. If he hadn’t been so damned stupid six year’s ago, if he hadn’t been so damned mean to her, maybe thing’s would of turned out definitely. Maybe he’d be married to her today instead of that filthy rich, ass-lawyer. What was is that she saw in him anyway’s?

He couldn’t blame her for wanting him to get out of her life. Heck, he would of told her the same thing if the situation had been reverse. He had been so damned cruel to her the last time he had seen her seven year’s ago at the Valenti’s.

God, he hated himself right now. Actually he had hated himself ever since Liz had left Roswell.

A sudden honking noise made him snap back to reality. He turned and glanced at his father who was seated behind the wheel of the white Grand Cherokee that they had rented for their weekend in New York.

He walked over to the SUV and climbed inside in the passenger seat.

“What are you doing here?” Max asked, “Didn’t you have a meeting?”

“They let us go early,” Philip replied, “What about you? Are you okay?”

“No.” Max replied with a sighed. “I’m not okay.”

“You talked to her, didn’t you?” Philip answered. It only took one glance at his son to see that he had talked to Liz Parker and that the conversation hadn’t gone very well. “You want to talk about?”

“There’s nothing to talk about,” Max replied, his voice or face showing no emotions whatsoever. “She moved on with her life. She’s married to rich lawyer, she has everything she could ever dream of having.”

Philip frowned, “What?” He said, “What are you talking about? Liz Parker isn’t married.”

“What?” Max said, turning to face his father. “She’s not...married?” Why had she lied to him?

“I don’t know,” Philip answered. “But from what he told me today, he’s planning on proposing to her tommorow night.”

Max felt as though he had been punched in the stomach. Only this was ten times worst.

“She lives in San Francisco,” Philip continued quietly, hating to see his son like this.

“He’s...he’s going to propose to her?” Max managed to choke it. He felt as though he couldn’t breath. “Here? In New York?”

Philip nodded his head in response. “I’m sorry Max.” He answered quietly, placing a strong, comforting hand on his son’s shoulder as Max remained silent.

“You know, maybe coming to New York was a mistake.” Max said finally. “I think maybe it would be best If I just took Xander with me and headed back to Roswell tommorow morning first thing.”

“Running away isn’t going to make the pain go away.” Philip Evans said, facing his son. “It’s not going to solve anything.”

“Yes it is!” Max said, letting out a small harsh laugh. “Liz left Roswell when thing’s got rough for her. And look at her now! She’s living it up!”

“Maybe it may seem that way,” Philip said, “But maybe she’s terribly unhappy.”

“I doubt it,” Max answered sharply. “How could she be? She has everything she could ever want.”

*************************************************************

Liz parked the car in front of the hotel and stepped out of the vehicle. She’s only been out with the cr for about fifteen minutes and she realized that all she wanted to do right now was lock herself up in her hotel room and watch tv. And maybe even cry a little.

She managed a small smile to valet as she handed him the car key’s. He took them and smiled warmly at her,

“Mr. Harris just got her about ten minutes ago.” He said, “I told him you’d taken the car out for a drive.”

“Thank you,” Liz told him politely before heading inside the hotel.

Brendan’s back, Liz thought to herself as she quickly past the throng of people that stood before her. She headed straight for the elevator. Good,

Minutes later she made it to her room. She pulled out her card key and passed in through the slot next to the doorknob. There was a small click and she pushed the door open.

“Brendan?” She called out loudly. The door to the bathroom opened and Brendan walked out, smiling.

“Hey there.” He said as he quickly crossed the room and wrapped his arms around her small waist.

“Hey,” She answered and stood on her tiptoes to give him a kiss on the lips. “Your back from your meeting early.”

“Yeah,” Brendan answered, his smile not leaving his face for a second. “They let us go early.”

“That’s great,” Liz answered. “I’m glad you’re here.”

“Yeah, me too.” Brendan answered, “So d’you have fun? Rob told me you had taken the car out. Did you go shopping?”

“Nah, I just drove around for a while.” Liz answered. “I wanted to check the City out, you know? I don’t come here often.”

“Well I’m glad you took the car out for a drive,” He answered. “And now what do you say we go out and find a place to eat? It’s only 6:30 and I’m starving.”

“Sure,” Liz answered with a smile, “I’m started to get hungry too. Just let me change into something a little more formal before we go.”

“No way,” Brendan answered. “Your prefect the way you are. I promise not to take you out anywhere really fancy.”

“Okay,” Liz answered, grabbing her purse from the small wooden desk. “Let’s go.”

Chapter 12

Liz clasped Brendan’s hand tightly as they walked down the crowded street. The two had just come out of one of New York’s best Café and they were now working towards their hotel.

“That was a nice dinner,” Liz said, giving Brendan’s hand a small squeeze. Even though she had spent most of dinner thinking about all the thing’s that had happened today. Max, Isabel, and Max’s kid.

“Yeah, it was.” Brendan admitted as they walked passed a crowd of people who were standing on the sidewalk, glancing upwards at the tall skyscrapers. “You were kind of quiet though.” He said gently. “You we’re kind of off into your own world. Are you sure there’s nothing you want to share with me?”

“Oh, no, I’m fine.” Liz said, mustering a smile at Brendan.

“You sure?” He asked. “Because, you know you can tell me anything, right?”

“Of course, I know that.” Liz said, “Trust me, there’s nothing to worry about, I’m fine.”

“Okay,” Brendan said, “That’s good.”

The two walked in silence for a while, simply enjoying each other’s company. When they neared the Hotel, Brendan spoke up,

“It’s still kind of early, you know.” He said, “You want to go see a movie or something?”

“Hmm, I don’t know.” Liz said thoughtfully. “I mean, you do have a meeting tommorow at 7. Don’t you want to go to bed early?”

“Your right,” Brendan said with a sighed. “I have to get up early tommorow, I should be getting some sleep.”

“Yes,” Liz said, “Then let’s go to bed, I’m kind of tired myself what with the whole getting up early this morning and taking the plane to fly halfway across the country.”

“Yeah, there’s that too.” Brendan answered, smiling. He led the way towards the entrance of the hotel, the tall building looming above them. They walked into the large and luxurious lobby and took the elevator up to their floor.

Once they were in the room with the door locked behind them, Liz placed her purse back on the small table by the tv and yawned widely.

“I’m gonna go take a shower.” Brendan said, “Care to join me?” He added seductively. “There’s room in there for two.”

Liz let out a small laugh, “As tempting as that sounds, I’m gonna skip. I’m too tired right now. Maybe tommorow though.”

“Well, if you change your mind...” He said, pointing towards the bathroom. “I’ll be in there.”

“Alright,” Liz smiled as she watched him disappear inside the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.

Liz sighed and grabbed the remote control, clicking the tv open. She opened her suitcase and pulled out her pyjamas, quickly slipping into them. After that she slipped under the covers of the bed, thoughts invading her head and that’s when she knew she’d have difficulty falling asleep tonight.

Had she made the right decision by blowing Max off earlier?? By lying to him about her relationship with Brendan, by telling him that she was married? Hell, he himself had moved on, he had a child with Tess. So why not tell him that she was married and that she moved on herself?

**************************************************************************************

“So you want to talk about it?” Isabel asked as she and her brother walked outside.

Max had left Xander with his grandfather while he and Isabel went for a small walk outside to clear their heads and talk.

“Not really.” Max said with a sighed. “I just...I really want this weekend to be over it. I just want to head back to Roswell and go on with my life.”

“Right. Of course.” Isabel said. “I’m really sorry, you know.”

“Me too.” Max answered softly. “I should of done everything in my power to keep her from leaving seven year’s ago.” He paused, letting out a shaky breath. “But I didn’t. And now I’m jealous of that guy she’s with and I shouldn’t be. I deserve what I’m getting. I deserve all that pain that I have inside of me.”

“That’s not true,” Isabel said.

“Isn’t it?” Max asked, turning his head to face his sister. “I was a horrible person to her, Is. Before she left Roswell, I mean, she was right all along about Alex being killed by an alien and I didn’t even believe in her. I turned away from her. I left her to deal with Alex’s death all by herself. She needed me and I...I slept with Tess and got her pregnant.”

“Max, you love your son.” Isabel said.

“I know that.” Max answered.

“You wouldn’t be the person you are today if it weren’t for him.”

“I know,” Max sighed.

“Listen, there’s something important I have to tell you.” Isabel said suddenly. “I...I should of told you before but you were kind of messed up with the whole Liz thing and your son was there and I didn’t want to say anything in front of him.”

“What is it?” Max asked, his face turning serious. He stopped walking and looked directly at his sister.

“I talked to Michael earlier today.” She said. “Maria called me and she started bitching at me because I had forgotten to call her about Liz. She found out through Mr. And Mrs. Parker about Liz being here in New York.”

“How...how are they?” Max asked, his heart sinking.

“Not good.” Isabel answered. “They’ve been crying a lot.”

“And what did Michael tell you?” Max asked.

“Well, Michael came on the phone and he sounded pretty weird.” Isabel continued. “Anyway’s he told me...he said that he spotted Tess again. This time she was in a car heading out of Roswell.”

Max frowned. “That’s a good thing.” He said, “She left Roswell.”

“Yeah, but...Michael came home from work sometime this afternoon and he found that his entire appartment was trashed. And the paper with the address to our hotel and the number where we can be reached was missing.”

Max swallowed hard. Of course this could only mean one thing.

“Tess is coming here.” Max finally said. “Oh God. Is, what are we going to do?”

“Well,” Isabel started. “I was sort of hoping you could answer that question. Michael, Maria, and Kyle are on their way right now. That’s what Michael said anyway’s. They were taking the first flight out to here. Michael didn’t want Maria and Kyle coming along, he said it was to dangerous but you know how Maria can be.”

“For once running isn’t going to help.” Max said with a sighed. “If she does show up I’m going to deal with her once and for all. I should of killed her on the spot when we found out that she had killed Alex.”

“So the plan is to wait around for her and then you’ll just finish her off?” Isabel asked. “What if she get’s to your son first? What if she get’s to dad? They’re human, they don’t have any powers. What if she decides to hurt them? She’s twisted enough to do it.”

“She wouldn’t hurt Xander.” Max said quietly, even though he wasn’t sure of that himself.

“Maybe not but she could hurt dad.” Isabel said. “You don’t what’s going on in her head. You don’t know what she wants.”

“We have to get back to Xander.” Max said urgently. “I just won’t leave him alone for one second.”

Before Isabel had a chance to reply, Max turned around and hurried back towards the hotel.

Isabel sighed as she quickly checked her watch for the time. 9:14. p.m. If Tess had left Roswell a couple of hours ago, it would mean that she would get here about this time tommorow night.

She would make to pay back Tess for what she had done to Alex.

“Attention, passengers on flight 233, nonstop service to New York,” The gate worker announced. “We are now boarding passengers in rows fifteen to twenty-five. Fifteen to twenty-five, please have your boarding passes ready.”

Maria was the first to stand up, followed by Kyle. Michael remained seated in his chair as he continued to read the dirt bike magazine that he had gotten on his way to the airport.

“Michael,” Maria said, turning around to stare down at him. “Come on, get up. They’re going to start boarding any second now.”

“Alright, alright.” Michael said, shutting his magazine. He stood up and Maria handed him his boarding pass.

“Why didn’t we just drive there?” Michael asked gruffly. “You know I hate flying.”

“Flying is faster.” Maria snapped. “And we want to get there as fast as we can, Spaceboy.”

“I can’t believe Tess.” Kyle said, “I mean, why do you think she’s back? Why now? And what the hell does she want?”

“If I see her first I’ll be the first to rip her damned blond hair right out of her scalp.” Maria said angrily. “I swear to God I’ll do it.”

“I’m sure you will.” Michael said, nervously staring behind the gate worker’s shoulder and straight at the plane that they were about to board. “Please tell me we can trust American Airlines. They’ve never had any major accidents with that airline, have they?”

“Oh, sounds like the second-in-command is getting cold feet about taking the plane.” Kyle smirked. “Scared Guerin? It’s okay, Maria can hold your hand if you get too scared.”

“Kyle shut-up!” Maria said, glaring at him. She turned back to Michael “We’re not going to crash.” She told him reassuringly.

“I’m not scared.” Michael growled.

“You tell yourself that,” Kyle replied.

“Shut-up Valenti,” Michael growled as the three handed their boarding passes to the gate worker. She smiled widely and handed them back almost immediately. “Have a good flight.” She said.

“Oh, we will.” Kyle said, smiling back at the women.

“I’m going to kick your ass, Valenti, I swear.” Michael said.

“What are you waiting for?” Kyle asked.

“Okay, that’s it.” Maria said, letting out an annoyed sighed. “Both of you just shut-up. Kyle you sit by the window, I’ll sit in the middle, and Michael you can sit by the aisle.”

Kyle sighed. “Fine.”

The three finally boarded the plane and headed towards the pass.

“I don’t understand why you didn’t make those damned thickets first class thickets.” Maria hissed at Michael as she squeezed passed a middle-aged bald man.

“Being in first class won’t save our asses any more than if we’re in coach class if the plane goes down.” Kyle said, giving Michael a wink. Michael growled some more but ignored Kyle as he followed Maria towards the end of the plane.

The three finally found their seats and they sat down. Kyle sat by the window, Maria in the middle, and Michael by the aisle.

Close to ten minutes later the Captain announced that they would be departing shortly, not before one of the air hostess went through the entire safety procedures, which made all colour in Michael’s face disappear almost immediately.

Finally the plane engines started and the plane backed up. Michael’s hand gripped edge of the death tightly.

“Guerin feeling a little under the weather?” Kyle asked, mockingly.

“I’m going to knock you out the next time something like that comes out of your mouth,” Michael threatened.

“Do you think Liz has changed a lot?” Maria asked, changing the subject. “Think she cut her hair really short? Or dyed it?”

“I always thought she’d look hot with red hair.” Kyle joked. “Maybe even with blond hair.”

Maria rolled her eye’s as the plane came to a stop. She heard the engines of the plane grow louder. They were about to take off.

Michael closed his eye's.

"Tell me when it's over."

Free ~ Chapter Thirteen

Liz’s eyes opened slowly and she let out a small groan when she saw that she had forgotten to close the blinds of the room the previous night before she had gone to bed. Now sun poured in the room as she lay in bed next to Brendan, temporarily blinding her as she managed to get out of bed and cross the room to go close the blind.

She let out a small sighed once the sun was gone. She turned around and headed back towards the bed. She slowly crawled back under the covers, careful not to wake Brendan up, who was sleeping peacefully beside her side.

She lay her head down on the pillow and closed her eyes tightly. Thoughts slowly seeping into her mind. Why hadn’t she stayed home this weekend? Why had she agreed to come all the way down here? This weekend was starting to be the weekend from hell! She could of stayed home and gotten to work on next week’s column, and gone out with Rachel and Serena for a movie or something. But now here she was, in New York City, and Max Evans was sleeping only a couple of floors away from this one, with his son and Tess Harding. Sure she hadn’t technically seen Tess yet, but with her luck she was bound to see her sooner or later.

She felt a sudden small noise beside her and her eye’s snapped open. She turned around to look at Brendan, who sleepily reached out to wrap his arm around her waist.

Liz smiled slowly as she rolled over to his side and buried her face in his chest. They lay like that, arms around each other for several minutes.

“I don’t want to go to this lame meeting,” Brendan said his voice groggy from sleep.

“Then don’t go,” Liz answered back. “Just stay here with me.”

“Done deal.” He said, reaching out for his cell phone which lay on the bedside table. “I’ll call in sick.”

“Nah, you can’t do that.” Liz answered, letting out a small giggle in the process as she reached out and snatched the phone away from him. “As much as I want you to stay, we came to New York for the sole purpose of you going to these meetings. You have to go. We can sleep in tommorow.”

“Ughh, please don’t make me go.” Brendan pleaded quietly as Brendan’s phone suddenly went off in Liz’s hand. Liz quickly glanced down at the phone number.

“It’s your dad,” She said as she handed him the phone.

Brendan let out a small sighed and took the phone from Liz. In one swift movement he pressed the talk button and held the small phone up to his ear.

“Hello,” He answered. Liz watched as he listened intently for several minutes.

“You can’t be serious.” Brendan growled into the phone. “Dad, I don’t need your assistance over here, I’m fine.”

Liz frowned curiously as she listened to the conversation, wondering what Mr.Harris was telling Brendan.

“Fine,” Brendan snapped angrily as he hung up the phone angrily and tossed it back on the bedside table.

Liz looked at Brendan with a worried expression on her face. She gently reached out and stroked his hair softly. “What did your father want?” She asked gently.

“My dad’s flying in from San Francisco.” Brendan explained quietly. “He’ll be here in time for this morning’s meeting.”

“Oh,” Liz answered. “But...what’s so bad about that? Your dad’s not that bad of a guy. I mean, sure, he can be a little weird sometimes but apart from that-”

Brendan let out a small snort. “That’s because you don’t know him as well as I do. He just wants to get noticed by all the other attorney’s that are going to be at the meeting. That’s the only reason why he’s coming to New York.”

“It’s only for another three day’s, Brendan.” Liz pointed out. “I’m sure you can handle being around him for that long.”

“I just-“ He started angrily. “He’s gonna ruin my weekend. He’s going to ruin our weekend. This weekend was supposed to be perfect.”

“Is is,” Liz said. “It’s turning out to be a great weekend, Brendan. And I promise you we’re not going to let your dad ruin it for us, okay?”

Brendan nodded slowly. “Alright.” He took Liz’s small hand in his. “I have a surprise reserved for you tonight.” He smiled. “I should be back from the meeting at around 3.”

Liz answered him by planting a long passionate kiss on his lips. She finally pulled away from him a few minutes later.

“I’m gonna go downstairs and see what I can get for breakfast.” She said, smiling up at him. “You should get going, you don’t want to be later for your meeting. Wouldn’t want to miss your dad’s big entrance now would you?”

Brendan smiled and kissed her one last time before rolling out of bed. Liz did same thing and then slipped into a pair of jeans and black shirt. Then she went into the bathroom, brushed her teeth, her face, and then ran a quick brush through her dark, layered hair. She then grabbed some change from her purse and headed towards the door.

“I’ll see you at 3, then.” Liz said, shooting Brendan a wide smile at Brendan before heading out of the hotel room.

Luckily for her, it was only 7:30 in the morning which meant that most people were sleeping in late this morning.

Please, God, don’t let me run into Max, Tess, or Isabel, Liz thought to herself as she stepped inside the elevator. Please let them all be sleeping in this morning.

When the elevator finally stopped she stepped out inside the Lobby. She walked a little further down the hallway that led towards the small Café which she had seen the day before when she had gone on a tour of the hotel while Brendan had been out.

Liz looked around the small café and saw that their we’re barely anyone. And, yay, no sign of Max Evans anywhere or Tess Harding. Or did she go by Tess Evans now??

She walked over to the counter and ordered herself a small coffee and muffin. She then sat down at one of small tables by the wall and opened the newspaper that she had burrowed from table next to hers right before she had sat down.

Time passed slowly. And all of a sudden she felt a presence beside her. Someone was watching her.

She looked up from the newspaper she had been reading and her eye’s widened slightly at the person standing next to her.

Mr.Evans. Accompanied by none other than Max’s son. What was his name again? Oh, right, Xander. Xander Evans.

“Mr.Evans,” Liz stated, surprised at his being there. He was holding Xander’s small hand in his own as he looked down at her.

“Liz Parker.” He replied, a small smile tugging on the corner of his lips. “Mind if we have a seat?” He asked, looking at the seat opposite from her own.

“Uh, I....” She stuttered. “Sure. Have a seat.”

Mr.Evans nodded and sat down in front of her, pulling Xander up onto his lap.

“Hello, Liz.” Xander said, a huge smile forming on his face. Liz couldn’t help but smile back at the child sitting in front of her.

“Hi, Xander.” Liz answered back. Just because this kid’s father was an ass, didn’t mean the kid was.

“Long time no see, huh?” Mr.Evans said, looking Liz in the eye. Liz squirmed slightly. under his gaze.

“Yeah,” Liz answered uncomfortably.

“Not for me,” Xander said, the huge smile not leaving his face for one second. “I saw Liz yesterday. I was lost and she helped me find Aunt Izzy.”

Mr.Evans smiled. “That’s right,” He said, “So, Liz, what have you been up to lately? What have you been up to since you left Roswell?”

Liz forced a smile on her face. “Nothing much.” She answered, taking a sip of her coffee, hoping that it would somehow sooth her nerves. “I mean, I moved to San Francisco, met some great friends, went to University and now I work for my best friends mother. I’m a columnist for the San Francisco Bay newspaper. I write weekly columns.”

“Wow,” Mr.Evans said impressed. “Sounds pretty good to me.”

“You used to live in Roswell?” Xander asked. “That’s where me and my daddy live.”

What about your mom?, A small voice at the back of her head said.

“Why did you leave Roswell?” Xander continued.

“Yeah,” Mr.Evans said, “Why did you leave Roswell?”

“I had some...” Liz started to answer. But she paused, unsure of what to answer. “Issues. I had some unresolved issues. So I left town.”

“Ah, issues, huh?” Mr.Evans. “Have you spoken to your parents since you left town?”

Liz looked down at the table with guilt and shame. What was she supposed to answer now??

“Mr.Evans? Liz?”

Liz looked up from the table and found herself staring at Brendan, who looked slightly confused as he stared from Mr.Evans to Liz.

“Brendan,” Liz exclaimed. “Aren’t you supposed to be going to your meeting?”

“I was,” Brendan answered. “I was just stopping by to tell you I was leaving and that the meeting would be a little longer than expected and that I’d be back at around 4 instead of 3.”

“Oh,” Liz said.

“So what are you two doing anyway’s?” Brendan answered as he stared at Mr.Evans and Xander.

“Mr.Harris,” Philip said, extending out his hand for Brendan to shake. Brendan shook us, still confused at what was going on.

“Do you two know each other or something?” Brendan asked, looking at Liz.

“I used to know Mr.Evans from when I used to live in Roswell.” Liz explained, she glanced down at Xander. “This is his grandson, Xander.”

“Hey there, Xander.” Brendan said, smiling down at the small boy.

“Hi.” Xander answered slowly.

“Well, I better get going then.” Brendan said, briefcase in hand. He leaned down and placed a small kiss on Liz’s cheek. Then he straightened back up and glanced Mr.Evans. “I suppose I’ll be seeing you at the meeting then.”

“Actually, I better get going now.” Mr.Evans said, standing up from his chair, he placed Xander down on the floor. “Liz, you wouldn’t mind taking Xander up to his father’s room, would you?” He asked, “Floor number 5, room 345.”

Liz’s face paled visibly at his request. He wanted her to do what!?

“Wait, uh, what?” Liz asked, looking up at Mr.Evans frantically. “But I- I ca-”

“Thank you Liz.” Mr.Evans said, smiling his thanks to her. “Brendan, we should get going.” He paused and turned to look at Liz. “Liz, don’t forget, room 345 floor number 5.”

“Mr.Evans-” Liz pleaded.

“Oh, you should know that my son’s probably still sleeping right now, he should be making up at around 9. Maybe you could take Xander for a small walk around the hotel. He’s been begging me to check out the pool with him ever since we got here yesterday.”

“Yay, the pool!” Xander burst out with excitement.

“I-” Liz said, but failing miserably at saying something.

“We’ll see you later then,” Mr.Evans said, he bent down and placed a small kiss on his grandson’s cheek. “Have fun, Xander. Bye Liz.”

Liz looked at Brendan, pleading him not to leave her with her eye’s. He merely shrugged and followed Mr.Evans out the café, leaving Liz alone with Xander. Max and Tess’s son!

“Can we go see the pool now?” Xander asked as he took hold of Liz’s hand. He tugged on her hand and she stood up from her chair.

“Alright,” Liz said as he continued to tug gently at her hand. “I’ll take you to see the pool.”

They walked together out of the small café, which was slowly becoming more and more crowded by the minute. She glanced down quickly at her watch as they walked towards the stairs that would take them to the basement, which was where the pool was situated. It was only 8 o’clock and Mr.Evans said that Max would be sleeping in until at least 9 which meant that she would have to stay with Xander for at least another whole hour.

“Do you have a pet, Liz?” Xander asked all of a sudden as they got on the elevator.

“Uh, no.” Liz answered. “I don’t have a pet. I had a goldfish when I was smaller though. But that was years ago.”

“What happened to it?” Xander asked curiously.

“It...died.” Liz answered. “What about you? Do you have a pet?”

Xander shook his head sadly. “I wanted a puppy for my birthday. But daddy didn’t want one. He said puppies we’re messy.”

“What about your mommy?” Liz asked. She couldn’t help it.

“I don’t have a mommy.” He answered. “I have one...but daddy doesn’t like it when she talks to me. He doesn’t like mommy. And I don’t really like her too. She’s not a very nice person.”

“Oh,” Liz answered frowning. Why wouldn’t Max want Xander to talk to his mother? And why the heck didn’t Max like her??

“I saw her a couple of days ago at my school.” Xander explained. “Daddy got scared when I told him I had seen her. I think that’s why were here in this big City. He wanted to get away from her. Because she’s not a good person.”

“I’m sorry.” Liz said quietly to the small boy beside her who was still holding on tightly to her hand as they stepped off the elevator. “I’m sorry about your mommy.”

“It’s okay,” Xander said, looking up at her. “You don’t have to be sad about it. I’m not.”

“Oh,” Liz said. She decided to drop the mom subject, not wanting Xander to feel uncomfortable.

“So, then, your daddy hasn’t bought you that puppy you’ve wanted, huh?” She asked. “That’s to bad. Puppies can be fun.”

“Yup.” Xander said as they walked towards the pool area. They we’re hit by the sudden smell of chlorine as they got closer and closer to pool.

“That’s why I wanted a puppy but daddy won’t buy we want.” Xander explained. “I also asked him for a little brother or sister but he never answered me when I asked him for one. He got all quiet and then he changed the subject.”

Liz swallowed hard. “That’s too bad.” She answered, forcing a smile on her face. “Well, here we are. This is the pool.” She pulled the double glass doors open and the two stepped inside.

“The pools in the shape of a giant flamingo!” Xander said excitedly. “Look!”

Liz smiled widely when she saw Xander’s reaction. This kid was just so adorable.

“Can we go swimming Liz!?” Xander asked, staring at the pool. “Please?! I can go get my bathing suit upstairs! Daddy had it with him. Maybe he can come swimming with us!”

“Oh, Xander.” Liz said, “I don’t think that’s such a good idea. But I’ll tell you what, I can go bring you upstairs to your bedroom to your daddy and he can take you swimming.”

“And you can come with us!” Xander said. “You know my daddy, you can talk to him.”

“Maybe later, Xander.” Liz said, “I sort of have something to do before I do any swimming. And...I don’t really think your daddy and I get along very well.”

“Why?” Xander asked.

“It’s complicated.” She said, forcing yet another smile on her face. She held out her hand for him to take. “Come on, let’s go wake your daddy up.”

Tess Harding was drunk. She had driven 1000 miles since she had left Roswell and now she was finally nearing New York City. Now she stood outside a small bar in New Jersey, her hands resting on the hood of her red pickup truck that she had stolen back in California a few months back.

Now the sun was barely up as she leaned forward

Green and red sparks were shooting up her arms, she stumbled towards the door of the pickup truck as she held a bottle of whisky in her left hand.

She pulled on the handle but the door didn’t budge. She tried once more but the door wouldn’t open.

“Fuckin’ door.” She cursed angrily. “Open!”

She took another sip of the bottle before throwing the bottle violently in the back of her pickup.

“Damn you Max Evans.” She swore angrily. “You ruined my fuckin’ laugh you son of a bitch. You and that stupid whore- Liz Parker.”

She punched her fist through the window of the pickup and glass shattered all around her. She groaned in pain as she looked down at her first, which was stained with blood.

“I’ll make you pay Max Evans.” She mumbled as she managed to open the door and climb inside the large truck. “I’ll kill at the fuckin’ things you love. I’ll kill your fuckin’ son and I’ll kill that fuckin’ whore of yours. And I’ll make her pay too. I’ll kill the thing’s she loves until there’s nothing left. You two will be begging me to kill you by the time I’m done my shit.”

A laugh escaped her lips as she started the engine.

“I’ll make you pay.” She repeated as she drove off slowly. “I’ll make you fuckin' pay.”

Free ~ Chapter Fourteen

Liz stopped right in front of the large door, not knowing what to do next. Oh she knew what she had to do, only she couldn’t bring herself to do it.

“I can knock for you if you want.” Xander answered as he looked up at her with a big grin. Almost immediately he reached out and gave a small tap on the door.

The door opened almost immediately and Liz found herself staring directly at Max Evans. A look of shock registered on his face as he stared straight at her.

“Liz?” He choked out. “W-what are you doing here?”

“I’m here too daddy.” Xander said as he jumped into his father’s arms.

“Hey, Xan.” Max said, trying to regain his composure. “What’s going on? Did you get lost again?”

“Nope.” He answered with a charming smile. “Grandpa had to leave for his big meeting so he left me with Liz while he left with Liz’s kissing friend. Liz took me to see the big pool and now I want to go swimming with you and Liz but she says she’s busy and that she has to do something. Daddy you have to take me swimming. The pool’s so big and it’s in the shape of a giant flamingo.”

Max’s tore his eye’s away from his son to look at Liz. “I’m sorry you had to look our for him.” He said almost quietly. “I didn’t know what my father was going to do- I’m really sorry.”

“It’s okay,” Liz answered, looking at Xander who’s arms we’re wrapped tightly around his father’s neck. “We had fun, didn’t we, Xander?”

“Yup,” Xander answered. “Lots of fun. But she doesn’t wanna come swimming with us. Daddy can’t you make her come swimming with us?”

“I can’t do that, Xander.” Max said,

“Why not?” Xander asked, a small frown appearing on his face.

“Maybe later, okay, Xander?” Liz said, “I’ll be back this afternoon and maybe we can go swimming then.”

“Okay,” He answered smiling. “This afternoon?”

“Maybe,” She said smiling back before turning her gaze to Max. She gave him a small polite smile. “I’ll see you around.” She said before turning around and heading off her own way. Before she had the chance to actually walk off, a hand reached out and wrapped itself around her arm.

“Liz, please wait.”

Liz turned around and saw that Max was staring straight into her eye’s. She could feel her insides turn to mush.

“I know what you said yesterday, about me staying away from you.” He said. “But...can you let me explain. I just need to talk to you, Liz.”

“Max,” Liz started. “There’s just nothing left to say.”

“Yes there is.” He said, “There’s alot left to say. I just need for you to listen to me.”

“I don’t know,” Liz said with a small sighed. “I just-”

“Please,” He pleaded. “Just hear me out. I swear I’ll stay away from you after that. I promise you’ll never see me again.”

Why didn’t that make her feel better?? Liz swallowed hard before answering. “Fine,” She said finally. “Half an hour.”

Max’s face broke into a smile of releif. “Thank you.”

Xander let out a small giggle as wriggled out of his father’s arm. “Does this mean we’re all going to the pool?”

“Not right now, Xander.” Max said, “Later I promise. Right now I have to talk with Liz, okay?”

“Fine, fine.” Xander said, “I’m going next door to see if Aunt Izzy wants to come with me then.” And with that he trotted off to the room next door and quickly disappeared inside the unlocked room.

“Where do you want to go?” Liz asked quietly. There was even more tension in the room now that Xander was gone and Liz didn’t like it.

“How about we just stay here?” Max proposed as he motioned his head towards his room.

Liz shrugged, “Sure. Here’s fine with me.”

The two walked inside the hotel room and closed the door behind them.

“So,” Liz said. “What is it that you want to talk about?”

“Maybe you should sit first,” Max said, pointing to the bed beside her. Liz nodded and sat down on the edge of the king sized bed.

“I know yesterday’s conversation didn’t go well,” Max started. “And I think ,that first of all, we got a couple of thing’s mixed up.”

“What thing’s?” Liz asked.

“Xander’s mother.” Max replied. “Tess.”

“Gee, why am I not surprised?” Liz said with a cold smile on her face, making Max wince slightly.

“We’re not together, Liz.” He replied. “I made her leave Roswell not long after Xander was born.”

“You made her leave Roswell?” Liz said, her cold smile turning into a sneer. “And why the hell did you do that?”

“Because of the thing’s she did.” Max explained more slowly.

“What thing’s did she do?” Liz asked.

“W-we found out that she....” Max started but stopped, unable to go on. “You we’re right all along. About Alex being killed....by an alien.”

Liz frowned. What was he trying to te- That’s when she got it. Her’s eye’s widened in horror and her mouth dropped open. It was Tess who had killed Alex.

“Tess killed Alex?” Liz said, her voice rising dangerously high. “Tess killed my best friend!?”

“Liz, I’m so sorry.” He said, “I swear I had no idea. It was Michael and Maria who found out. I nev-”

“TESS KILL ALEX AND YOU DIDN’T KILL HER!?” Liz exploded with anger. “YOU JUST LET HER LEAVE THE FUCKIN’ TOWN!?”

“I couldn’t kill her, Liz.” Max said, swallowing hard. “I’m so sorry. I just- I couldn’t kill her in cold blood. I-I’m not like that.”

“So your telling me that there’s a fuckin’ murderer loose on the streets somewhere out there!?” Liz said angrily. “HOW THE FUCK COULD YOU MAX?? HOW COULD YOU LET HER LEAVE LIKE THAT!? DO HAVE ANY IDEA HOW MANY PEOPLE SHE COULD OF KILLED!?”

“I know!” Max said, “But I couldn’t do it! I just couldn’t do it, okay!?”

“You know, if she comes after you or your son of anyone else, you’ll be sorry you let her go.” Liz said, lowering her voice. “Did you ever think of that, Max? What if she came after your son tommorow? What the fuck would you do?”

“She-” Max said, “She won’t. She knows what I’ll do to her if she ever comes near my son. I made it clear to her-”

“Right, by letting her skip town.” Liz finished for him, sarcasm rolling off her mouth. “What a decision you made, Max.”

“I didn’t have any other solution!” Max exploded. “NONE OF THIS WOULD OF EVER OF HAPPENED IF YOU WOULDN’T OF LEFT ME! IF YOU WOULDN’T OF SLEPT WITH KYLE VALENTI!”

“YOU SLEPT WITH TESS” Liz exploded. “YOUR BLAMING ME FOR WHAT THAT WHORE DID TO ALEX!? WHY YOUR BLAMING ME FOR EVERYTHING YOU MESSED UP IN YOUR FUCKIN’ LIFE!?”

Max remained silent as he slumped down on the bed. Slowly he turned his head towards Liz as he tried to hold back the tears that we’re forming in his eye’s.

“Because we could of been happy together.” He said quietly. “I loved you, Liz Parker. I loved you so much. I was ready to give up everything for you. And then you slept with Kyle. You pushed me away. And there was nothing I could do. But the thing is- why did you do it? Why did you push away like that? I don’t understand what I did wrong. I- I don’t know what I did. What the fuck did I do that would make you want to sleep with Kyle. Why did you ruin our future together? You ruined everything we had.”

“I didn’t want too!” She said, “It was you. You came back from the future to tell me that I had to make you fall out of love with me or the fuckin’ world would end.”

“That’s impossible.” Max said, gritting his teeth. “Your lying to me. Time travel is impossible and you know it.”

“Don’t you think I know that!?” Liz spat. “But you told me that some future friend of mine, Ser-” That’s when she stopped dead in her tracks. Serena. Future Max had said that a close friend of hers, Serena, had known about Time travel and some stuff about quantum mechanics. But...that couldn’t be...could her best friend Serena be the Serena that Future Max had explained to her? And why the hell was this coming to her now?

“The point is,” Liz continued, “You came to me that night in October and he, Future Max, made you fall out of love with me. You said that we treated Tess like crap and it made her leave Roswell for good. And without her, the four square was ruined. And when this intergalactic war broke out or something, the three of you, Michael, Isabel and yourself, weren’t strong enough to fight back. Isabel and Michael both died because of it.”

“So you slept with Kyle.” He said, his voice hoarse.

“I set it up so that you would think I slept with Kyle.” Liz explained.

Max was silent.

“Damn you.” He said finally. “Damn you, Liz. You’re unbelievable. WHY DIDN’T YOU COME TO ME!? YOU JUST DID WHAT HE ASKED YOU TO DO! HE COULD OF BEEN A FUCKIN’ SHAPESHIFTER! IT COULD OF BEEN TESS MINDWARPING YOU! YOU JUST LET ME TO BELIEVE THAT YOU HAD HAD SEX WITH KYLE! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE FUCK YOU PUT ME THROUGH!?”

“I KNOW WHAT YOU WERE GOING THROUGH BECAUSE I WAS GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING!” Liz exploded. “DON’T YOU THINK I FELT LIKE CRAP FOR WHAT I HAD DONE! I LOVE YOU TOO YOU KNOW! AND I HAD TO THROW EVERYTHING WE HAD OUT THE WINDOW TO SAVE THE FUCKIN’ PLANET!”

“YOU DIDN’T HAVE TOO LIZ!” Max said angrily. He stopped and took a deep breath to calm himself down. “You could of come to me. I could of done something, we could of thought of something together. We could of stayed together.”

“It doesn’t matter anymore.” Liz said, tears stinging her eyes. “What’s done is done. We can’t go back in time and change it.” She let out a small snort at that. “Although we probably could if we really wanted too.”

“I can’t believe this.” Max said, running a hand through his dark black hair. “I can’t believe this. I mean, a lot of good that did you. Making me fall out of love with you.” He looked down at her. “Your planned never worked out by the way. I never fell out of love with you. Not for one second.” He paused, shaking his head. “And Tess turned out to be a murder who killed your best friend.”

Liz swallowed hard. “I-I have to go.” She said before bolting for the door. She tore down the hallway before Max had a chance to stop her.

She had to get out of here.

Chapter Fifteen

Max watched as Liz bolted out the door. Dammit, he wasn’t letting her get away that easily. Not again.

He hurried out the door and down the long narrow hallway. He ran until he finally caught up to her, grabbing her arm again and turning her around once more so that she was facing her. Her eye’s we’re stained with tears which made Max wince in pain. He hated to her cry.

“I’m sorry,” He pleaded. “Please don’t go. We still need to talk.”

“No,” Liz said shaking herself free from his grip. “Don’t- now there’s really nothing left to say. Please, just, let me go. Leave me alone.”

“I can’t.” Max said, “I can’t let you leave without us being okay. I don’t want to leave with you hating me.”

“It’s a little too late for that, don’t you think?” Liz said, her eye’s filled with tears.

“Please stop crying,” Max said, “I hate it when you cry.”

“What do you want me to do Max?” Liz said, “Throw myself at you? Tell you everything’s going to be okay? That you don’t have to worry about anything?”

“Of course not.” He lied.

Liz shook her head and turned back around, he stopped her again before she could walk off.

“Maria, Michael, and Kyle are on their way here.” He said softly. “They’re going to get here sometime today.”

“Great” Liz said sarcastically. ”More fighting, more bitching, more crying. This is the happiest day of my life.” She paused and swallowed hard. “Have you told my parents. Do they know I’m here?”

“Yes,” Max answered. “Isabel told them. And my dad talked to them to.”

“How are they?” She asked, more softly this time.

“They’re a mess.” He answered. “They’ve been a complete mess ever since you left Roswell.” He paused, clearing his throat. “So have I.”
“Daddy!” A voice interupted them. Liz turned around to find Xander running through the hall. Once he finally reached them he jumped into his father’s arms.

“Liz!” Xander said, grinning. “Your still here?! Why don’t you stay with me and daddy for a while, we can go eat some pancakes!”

“I’m sorry, Xander.” Liz said, “But I have to go.”

She turned on her heels and headed downstairs to her room. Once she got there she closed and locked the door behind her, throwing herself onto the bed.

She lay there, crying on the bed until the phone on her bedside table rang loudly, making her snap out of her thoughts.

She sniffled and reached out for the phone. She pressed on the talk button and held the phone up to her ear.

“Hello?” She said into the phone, grabbing a Kleenex from the night stand to her right.

"Liz?" A voice said into the phone. “It’s me, Serena. Rachel’s standing right next to me. Actually she's more like slouched on the couch.”

“Hey, Serena.” Liz said. “What’s up? And tell Rachel I say hi.”

“Just calling to see how you were doing, that’s all.” Serena said. "And she says hi too. How are thing’s in New York?”

"Kind of crazy." Liz answered with a sigh.

"By crazy you mean?" Serena asked curiously.

"My past is catching up to me." Liz answered. "And I don't know what to do about it."

"Your past is catching up to you?" Serena asked, slightly puzzled. "It's your parent's isn't it? You saw your parents?"

"No, not my parents," Liz said.

"Ex-best-friend? Grandma? Grandpa? Ex-boyfriend?" Serena asked.

Liz remained silent for a while.

"Ohhh, wait a second." Serena said into the phone when she saw that Liz wasn't answering. "It's the ex-boyfriend isn't it? What's his name again?"

"Max." Liz replied, "Max Evans."

"What did Brendan say when you told him?" Serena asked. "Or did you not tell him?"

"I didn't tell him." Liz said, "And I'm not planning on either. Only...I have a bad feeling about this, Serena. When we talk- more like when we shouted at each other- afterwards he told me that Maria, Michael, and Kyle- my friends from when I used to live in Roswell- he told me that they we're on their way here, to New York City." She paused, trying to regain her calm as the panic inside of her started mounting. "I just- I don't want that. And I don't know why but I don't want to tell Brendan about them- I don't want him to know about my past."

"Oh my, God." Serena said. Liz could hear Rachel fighting for the phone in the background. "So wait, they're all on their way to New York at this instant??? What about your parents?"

"I don't know about them." Liz answered sincerely. "But Max said that the other's we're on their way, and that they'd be here pretty soon. Serena, what should I do? Brendan's going to find out and- I don't want him too."

Liz heard Serena sighed on the other end of the line and she could hear Rachel telling Serena to hand over the phone. And then she heard Serena tell Rachel to shut-up.

"Well, why don't me and Rachel fly down there?" Serena said finally. "We can totally have your back and you know it." She paused, "Or if you want I can call Brendan and tell him that Lois needs you back here A.S.A.P. He'd put you on his Jet plane and you'd be on your way back home in less than half and hour."

Liz thought of that. Why not try it, it could work? But on the other hand, Brendan would be dissapointed. He had been looking forward to this weekend alone with her ever since he had told her last week.

"No, I can't do that to Brendan." Liz answered. "He's been looking forward to this weekend with me."

"You have no idea." Liz heard Serena say under her breath.

"I guess I'm just going to have to do my best to handle this situation." Liz said.

"Sweetie, maybe you should just tell Brendan about your...situation." Serena said gently. "You know you can trust hi, you've known him for two and half years. You can tell him about your past life in Roswell, I know he would listen to you and he would understand."

"Maybe your right." Liz said, "I don't know though. God, I'm just so confused right now."

"It'll be okay," Serena said reassuringly. "Your coming back home in two day's."

"Yeah, I know." Liz said. "I know."

"Everything's going to be fine, Liz." Serena reassured her. "And as I said before- if you have any problems, just give me and Rachel a call and we'll take the first flight out to New York."

"Alright." Liz said, "What are you and Rachel up to now anyway's?"

"I don't know about Rachel but I'm going out tonight." Serena said. "With this guy, his name is Rob."

"Woah, wait a second," Liz said, her eyebrow shooting up. "Supermarket Rob?"

"No." Serena answered annoyed. "Starbucks Rob."

"Ohhhh," Liz said, frowning slightly. "Okay, then" Liz said. "I better get going, I'm gonna go see what I can eat around here. Maybe go to some cafe downtown or something."

"He's a good guy." Serena said, "Really. He's hot, he's smart, and nice."

"I didn't say anything." Liz said defending herself. "If you say he's a nice guy, I'm taking your word for it."

"You didn't say anything but I could so hear your voice!" Serena said.

"Good-bye, Serena." Liz said.

"Bye," Serena said. They both hung up the phone the phone at the same time.

Liz sighed and threw the phone back on the bedside table. She ran a hand through her long brown hair before lying back on the pillow.

*************************************************************

"Max Evans open the door this instant! I know your in there! Isabel told us!"

A shrill voice said coming from the other side of the door. Max slowly got up from the bed, rubbing his still sleepy eye's.

He had been sleeping for the past half hour, ever since his fight with Liz. He had sent his son with Isabel while he took a small nap.

He rolled out of bed. That voice could only belong to one person. Maria.

He walked over to the door and unlocked it using his power's. He pulled the door open to find himself staring at Maria, Michael, and Kyle.

"I've been knocking on that door for the past five minutes!" Maria said as she pushed her way past Max into his room. "Why didn't you answer?"

"Hello to you too, Maria." Max said groggily.

"I'm sorry, Max." Maria said with a sigh. "We had a rough flight." She jerked her head in Michael and Kyle's direction. "I had to keep those two from killing each on the plane. I swear, we are driving back to Roswell."

"He started it." Michael growled in Kyle's direction. "He wouldn't shut-up the entire flight."

"Guerin," Kyle started, "Buddah has thought me-"

"Quote him one last time and I swear I'll blast you out the window." Michael said as he went to sit down next to Maria on the bed.

"So, Max." Maria said, ignoring Michael and Kyle. "How are you?"

"Not good." Max answered. "I talked to Liz again right before you guy's got here. I told her about...Tess. About what she did to Alex. She got pretty damn mad. She started yelling at me, asking me why the hell I had let her leave town without killing her."

'That makes two of us who don't understand why you let her go so easily." Michael said.

"I told you, Michael," Max said, angrily. "I couldn't kill her."

"But I could of." Michael growled. "But you wouldn't let me."

"You couldn't of killed her, Michael." Max said. "Don't you remember when you killed Pierce by accident all those years ago? You we're sick to your stomach about having killed him. Even when we tried to remind you about all the people that he had killed, you wouldn't even listen to us."

"Pierce was human," Michael said. "Tess is an alien. Big difference there, Maxwell."

"They're both evil." Max retorted.

"Ughh," Maria said, rolling her eye's. "Why do I have to be surrounded by guy's all the time? This is killing me!" She stood up from the bed and turned to face Max. "Where is she, Max? I want to try to talk her. I need to do this. And now."

Chapter Sixteen

“I don’t know what room she’s in,” Max said as sat down on the edge of the bed, staring up at Maria who hovered above him impatiently.

“I thought you talked to her,” Maria said as she glared down at him.

“I did,” Max answered with a sigh. “And it wasn’t really talking, it was more of a shouting match.”

“Can’t you use your power’s to figure out in what room she’s staying in?” Maria asked.

“Look, I think we should just stay away from her for a while.” Max said, swallowing hard. “She was really mad when she left from here, Maria. If you go find her now, she’s just going to explode. I know that your angry, and that-”

“No, Max.” Maria said. Max could see the pain and anger forming in her eye’s. “I’m not angry, I’m downright pissed off. She left us, Max. She left us almost seven year’s ago and she didn’t even care to tell us good-bye when she did! No note, no message, no nothing! Her parent’s we’re ripped apart completely! I was torn apart by her leaving. I had just lost Alex and then I had to lose my other best friend!?! Seven years and not a word from her! We had no idea if she was lying dead in a ditch somewhere , or, I don’t know,” She paused. “living it up!!

Michael, and Kyle remained silent as Maria spoke, none of them we’re looking at her.

“We pushed her away, Maria,” Max said softly, “And I know that-”

“That was no reason to leave us!” Maria exploded, angry tears we’re rolling down her cheeks.

Michael quickly got up from his seat on the bed and made his way over to Maria, wrapping one arm around her in comfort. She pressed her face to his chest as she continued to cry.

Max swallowed hard. He had absolutely no idea what to do now. He desperately wanted to go and find Liz, but he highly doubted that she would want to see him right now. He didn’t think she’d ever want to see him again period.

“How about I go see how she’s doing?” Kyle asked with a small shrug. “Maybe she’ll listen to me.”

“I don’t know,” Max said softly. “I don’t think she wants to see any of us right now. She was pretty shaken up by everything I had to tell her about Tess.”

“I want to go see her,” Maria said as she pulled away from Michael.

“You can come with me only if you can keep your emotions in check.” Kyle said, “No going off on her or yelling, it’s only make her want to get out of here even more and we don’t want that.”

Maria nodded as she let out a small sighed, “Fine. I’ll try to keep my emotions in check.”

“Good,” Kyle said. “Then it’s a plan. We can head to the front desk downstairs and see if we can get hold of her room number. Max and Michael, you two stay right here. I don’t she’ll want to talk to us with Max there.”

Maria pressed a small kiss to Michael’s cheek. “We’ll be back in a short while.” She said.

Max watched as Maria and Kyle walked out the door. He badly wanted to go with them, he wanted to talk to Liz and make sure she was okay.

“Let’s go check up on Isabel and Xan,” Michael suggested, “I don’t think they’ll be back right away, we have lots of time to kill.”

Max remained quiet as he got to his feet and followed Michael outside. So many thoughts we’re racing in his mind and all he really wanted right now was to be left alone but I know that won’t be happening.

“Hey, Iz,” Michael announced as he opened the door to Isabel’s room. “Look who flew in from New Mexico”

“Michael,” Isabel said as she looked up from where she was sitting on the bed. Both Isabel and Xander appeared to have been watching tv, the two we’re sitting cross-legged on the bed as they stared at the screen in front of them.

“Uncle Michael,” Xander said, a big grin instantly forming on his small face. “Where’s Aunt Maria and Uncle Kyle?” He asks excitedly as he hops off the bed and gives Michael a hug.

“They...” Michael said as he shot Max a look that clearly said, what do I tell him?

“They’re busy right now.” Max explained as he bent down and picked his son off from the floor. “But they’ll be back later.”

“Okay,” Xander said with a small giggle as Max picked him up.

“So what do we do now, huh?” Michael asked as he went to sit on the bed next to Isabel. “Doesn’t this place just plain creep you out? New York, I mean.”

“What do you mean?” Isabel asked curiously. “I like this place.”

“Oh come on, you know what I mean.” Michael said. “The Dupes.”

“What’s a....Dupe?” Xander asked with a little frown on his face.

“It’s nothing, sweetie,” Isabel said. “Why don’t you go next door and watch tv there? You’ll be more quiet and you can watch all the tv you want.”

“That’s not fair.” Xander pouted. “You never tell me anything important. I’m a big boy, I want to stay here with my daddy and you.”

“I know you do, honey.” Max says, “But Uncle Isabel and Uncle Michael and I have some important thing’s to discuss. We just need a couple of minute’s to talk and then you can come back and the room and we can do something.”

Xander’s eye’s immediately widened and he grinned. “Can we go swimming?”

“I’ll go swimming with you, buddy.” Michael said as he ruffled Xander’s hair.

“Yay,” Xander said, smiling. “Daddy, will you come swimming with me and Uncle Michael? What about you Aunt Izzy? Will you come swimming with us too?”

“Maybe, sweetie, we’ll see later, okay?” Isabel said, smiling down at her nephew.

“Come on let’s go set you up next door.” Max said as he carried his son out the door, leaving Michael and Isabel behind.

“How is he?” Michael asked Isbel when he was sure that Max was out of hear shot.

Isabel let out a small sighed. “I don’t know.” She answered him. “He’s not doing to good. He’s sort of shut himself out from everybody. I don’t think there’s anything we can do.”

“Damn, Liz.” Michael said angrily. “I can’t believe her.”

“That’s what I thought too.” Isabel said. “But then I realized that it’s not really her fault. We did push her away, Michael. And she was right all along about Alex having been killed by an alien and we didn’t even believe her.”

“That didn’t mean she had to run away.” Michael retorted. “For God’s sake, Iz, you don’t run away for something like that.”
“Why not?” Isabel asked. “I thought about it, Michael.”

“What??” Michael asked, his mouth dropping open slightly. “What do you mean by that?”

“When Alex died,” Isabel started slowly. “I wanted to get out of Roswell so badly. That’s why I wanted to leave for San Francisco. But then Max turned into a real ass and decided that I wasn’t going anywhere. I thought about leaving, Michael. I thought about running away.”

“But you didn’t do it.” Michael pointed out. “You didn’t leave. Liz did.”

“Yes, and I can sort of understand why she did it.” Isabel said with a small shrug. “Look, I reacted the same way that your reacting right now when I got here and I first saw her. But I thought about it and I just...don’t really blame her for leaving anymore. Even if in the process of leaving she ripped my brother’s heart and left us and her own parent’s worried sick.”

“So what?” Michael asked. “You just...forgive her?”

“I guess I do.” Isabel said with another small shrug just as Max re-entered the room.

“What we’re you guy’s talking about?” Max asked as he closed the door behind him.

“Nothing you need to know about.” Michael said. “And as I was saying before, the Dupes, do you think they’re still around here? It’s been seven year’s and we haven’t heard from them. Think they’re still in the sewers around here somewhere.”

“I don’t know.” Max said, “Not that personally care anway’s.”

“Unless they’re working with Tess.” Michael said quietly. “I mean, think about it. Tess screwed us over, the Dupes screwed us over. And now we find ourselves in New York, The Dupe’s territory. Who’s to say they’re not working all together to bring us down or something.”

“I doubt it.” Isabel said, shaking her head. “That doesn’t really sound like Tess to me. I don’t think she’d be working with the Dupes. What if she was working with the Dupes that time you came to New York seven years ago, huh?”

“She could of been.” Max said, swallowing hard. “She probably was.” He added, anger seeping through him.

“Well then I think we should be on the lookout for any of the Dupes.” Michael said. “Until we head back to Roswell anyway’s, which is in a couple of day’s only. We gotta be careful to who we talk to and what we do. No one goes anywhere alone. Better safe than sorry.”

“Okay,” Max said. “But...don’t you think we should warn Liz? She could be in danger too. The Dupes know who she is...I swear if something happened to her-”

“Nothing’s going to happen to her.” Isabel reassured him. “She’s going to be fine. We need to look out for your son, I think he would be the one on Tess’s radar the most, not Liz.”

“So wait,” Michael said, shooting Isabel and Max a look. “Here we are, talking about Tess coming after us, after Max’s son. We’re talking about not leaving anybody alone for a second and yet we leave the little squirt next door with no protection whatsoever?”

Max bolted out of the room and burst into his own room next door. His eye's widened in horror when he saw that the room was empty.

"Xander!?" He called out as he quickly checked inside the bathroom. No one was there.

"Where is he?" Isabel asked worriedly as she came into the room, closely followed by Michael.

"I don't know." Max answered painfully. "I- I can't beleive this. I left alone for only five minutes! His room was right next to yours!"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Kyle and Maria reached front desk and Maria was the first the ring the bell.

"Hello and welcome," The women said as she smiled brightly at Kyle and Maria. "Do you have a reservation?"

"Uh, no." Maria said, brushing a strand of blond hair out of her face. "I mean, we already have a room and all but we we're just looking for someone. A room number to be more specific."

"I'm terribly sorry, but we're not aloud to give out the room numbers here." The women said, her bright smile never leaving her face.

"But I need this room number." Maria said. "It's extremely important."

"I'm sure it is," The lady said. "But I just cannot give any room number out, I'm sorry."

"Has anybody ever told you that you have absolutely beautiful eye's?" Kyle asked as he leanned over the counter, staring into the women's eye's, who must of been at least 45 year's old.

"Why thank you." The women said, her face turning bright red. "I mean, I do get some compliment once and a while about those eye's of mine."

Maria immediately shot Kyle a look and Kyle merely shrugged back before leanning over the counter once more,

"Look, I get that your not aloud to give out room numbers to strangers." He practically whispered. "But this is extremely important. I really need to get hold of this person. Couldn't you...make an exception for just this once?"

He shot her a killer smile and the women behind the counter blushed some more.

"Well..." She said finally. "Alright then, I guess I could make an exception just this once."

"Thank you, gorgeous." Kyle said, giving her a wink. Maria rolled her eye's from behind Kyle.

"Now who's room number do you need?" The women, who's name tag read "Peggy" asked as she began to type on her computer.

"Elizabeth Parker." Kyle said as the women typed in the name.

"I have nothing under the name of Liz Parker." The women said, shaking her head. "Sorry."

"Dammnit," Kyle said as he turned to face Maria. "The room must be under the name of her boyfriend or something. Do you know what the guy's name is?"

"I don't remember." Maria said, "Damn I don't remember. All I know is that the guy's a really loaded Lawyer."

Kyle quickly turned back to face Peggy the secretary. "You don't know the name of a really loaded Lawyer, do you?"

He watched as she frowned. "Coule be Mr.Harris. He's the one who reserved the biggest suite for this weekend. I'm pretty sure that he's a Lawyer. And anybody who rents the suite that he rented for the weekend has got to be loaded."

"Okay, then." Kyle said with a smile. "That's the room number we're looking for, Mr. Harris's."

She nodded briefly and typed in the name, after a few seconds she spoke up again,

"Brendan Harris." She read aloud. "Top floor, room number 989."

"Thank you, pretty lady." Kyle said, shooting her yet another killer smile. Maria rolled her eye's again before grabbing Kyle and dragging him off. "Come on, we have someone to find." She said as the two walked off towards the elevator.

Chapter 17

“Here we are.” Kyle said as he and Maria stood outside Liz’s room. “Are you sure you want to do this? Because I personally don’t think this is such a good idea. You know, the whole you coming along to talk to Liz thing.”

“I want to do this, Kyle.” Maria said with a sigh.”Don’t you dare try to stop me, Valenti.”

“Fine,” Kyle said. “Let’s do this.” He held up his hand and knocked loudly on the door, waiting nervously for Liz to open the door.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz paced the room, her mind racing with thoughts. She couldn’t believe this was happening. She just couldn’t believe it. Tess had killed Alex. And Tess was still out there somewhere with her powers. How could Max have let her go!? God knows how many people she could of killed. Or God knows what she could be up to this very second!?

Before she could react, power surged through her body and through her arm and all the way to the tips of her hand. Power shot out of her hand, causing the lamp on her bedside table to explode.

Her eye’s widened in shock as she stared at the broken pieces of the lamp on the floor. She looked down at her hands, who we’re both cackling with green energy.

What the hell was happening to her!? She continued to look down at her hands with horror.

She let out a loud sob as she collapsed on the bed.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Tess swerved the red pick-up truck down the street. Cars honked loudly at her but she didn’t care. She had a meeting with some very important people in less than five minutes and she didn’t have any time to waste.

“Get out of my damn way,” She said angrily to the car that was slowly making it’s way down the street in front of her. She threw her hand up in the air, making the green Jetta in front of her explode. Fire engulfed the vehicle almost immediately.

But Tess didn’t stop. She continued down the road, not bothering to even stop at the red light. The fact that she was still half drunk didn’t improve her situation.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Where the hell Is she?”

Lonnie paced around the sewers while Rath remained sitting on the couch as he watch Lonnie. The two hadn’t changed much in six year’s. Not physically anyway’s.

“The bitch was supposed to be here half a fuckin’ hour ago.” Lonnie said. “Where the fuck is she? I don’t have all day here.”

“Take It easy babe.” Rath said, trying to reassure her. “She’ll be here. Just stop pacin’ around you’re givin’ me a headache.”

“I’m sorry.” Lonnie said with a small sigh as she stopped pacing and went to sit down next to Rath. “I’m just worried this chick ain’t gonna show up. I don’t want her to fuck us over.”

She slowly crawled onto his laps and placed a kiss on his lips. Rath’s arms immediately went out around her waist, pulling her closer to him. He then slid his hands up her shirt, using one hand to quickly unhook her bra.

“Wait,” She said, “We can’t do this now. She’ll be here any second now.”

“So?” Rath said, slipping Lonnie’s shirt over her head and throwing it to the floor. He immediately resumed kissing her all over.

“Oh, God.” She moaned loudly.

There was a sudden noise from behind them and Lonnie immediately grabbed her shirt to cover herself up.

“I’m not interupting something, am I?” Tess’s voice rang through the sewer’s. She bust into a fit of giggles.

“Fuck,” Rath said, “You we’re supposed to be here over half an hour ago.”

Lonnie discreetly turned around and quickly got dressed.

“I see you still live in this shithole.” Tess said with yet another giggle. She stumbled forward towards Rath.

Rath rolled his eye’s. The girl was obviously drunk.

“Hey, are you crazy or somethin’?” Rath said, angrily lifting himself up from the couch. “You’re drunk. You better not have done anythin’ stupid, Ava.”

“I go by Tess down here.” Tess corrected him. “And, no, I haven’t done anything stupid. Of course, I might of killed one or two people on my way here. There was to much traffic and he bitch was blocking my way. I had to do something to make her move.”

“Hey, as long as nobody saw you use your power’s it’s fine with me.” Lonnie said as she sat back down on Rath’s lap, who had re-seated himself on the couch.

“You want somethin’ to drink?” Lonnie asked, wrapping an arm around Rath’s neck as she stared up at a very disheveled look.

“No.” Tess answered. “I’ve had one to many drinks already.” She sat in the couch opposite from Lonnie and Rath.

“So you want to tell me what the hell you’re doin’ here in New York?” Rath asked. “Why d’you call us?”

Tess swallowed hard before answering. “I need your help for something.” She answered finally.

Lonnie let out a small snort. “Yea? And why the hell would we do that?”

“Because I’ve helped you out before.” Tess answered. “Almost eight year’s ago. Don’t tell me you forgot? I helped Nicholas and you guy’s at the Summit. I’ve put my life on the line for your two and Nicholas. Now I think you owe me.”

“Fuck you.” Rath said angrily. “That was year’s ago. We don’t owe you shit, Ava. It’s not like we ever got the chance to go back home.”

“It’s Tess.” Tess said angrily. “I need you to help me out. This concerns Max Evans. Zan. Don’t you want to get back at him for what he did to you? He destroyed you both. I mean, look at you, you’re both pathetic. You could of gone back home, but Max Evans stopped you from doing that. Now, I’m asking you to help me take him out once and for all.”

“What good will it do to help take Zan down?” Lonnie asked. ‘It’s sounds completely pointless to me.”

“I need to do this.” Tess said, anger rising by the second. “And imagine what Khivar will do to you if he finds out that you killed Max! He’ll reward you! You’ll be able to go home again!”

“We haven’t heard from Khivar in year’s.” Lonnie said. “He could be dead for all we know.”

“He’s not dead.” Tess said coolly. “I know what he’s been up to. I’ve been in contact with him. And he’s offering you a deal.”

“A deal?” Rath said, leaning forward. “What do you mean by that? What kind of deal.”

“If you take care of Max Evans.” Tess said, looking Rath and Lonnie straight in the eye. “Along with his son, Zan. And that stupid whore, Liz Parker. You get to go home.”

“Wait a second,” Lonnie said, “Back up here a second. Max Evans has a son?”

Tess snorted in disgust. “Unfortunately.” She answered. “He does. His name is Zan. He’s barely seven year’s old.”

“You want us to kill a seven year old?” Lonnie asked, making a face. “Why? Why would Khivar want a child dead?”

“Because he’s the heir to Antar you morons.” Tess spat out.

“Hey,” Rath burst out angrily. He used his power’s to make the jar next to Tess explode into pieces. “Watch your fuckin’ language.”

“And who the hell is this Liz Parker?” Lonnie asked. “And why do we have to take her out?”

“That’s personal,” Tess answered.

“Woah, Liz Parker.” Rath said, his face scrunched up in concentration. “I remember that chick. Long time no see is all I have to say. She was a real hottie. To bad I never actually got the chance to do her.”

“Well, if it’s personal why don’t you kill her yourself?” Lonnie asked.

“Maybe I will,” Tess answered thoughtfully. “I probably will.”

“So, who’s this kid’s mother anyway’s?” Rath asked. “And what does he look like? I’m gonne need a picture or something if you intend on me killing him.”

Tess grabbed her purse and quickly got several picture’s of Zan that she had manage to get a couple of day’s ago in Roswell. She handed them over to Rath and he took them from her.

“I’ll repeat the question,” Rath said again, looking up from the picture’s to stare at Tess. “Who’s the kid’s. He’s obviously not your’s or you wouldn’t want him dead now, would you?”

Tess gritted her teeth in annoyance. “Who care’s who the mom is?” She asked. “Just do what I say and everything will go fine. I want Max, Zan, and Liz dead. And I’m giving you a week to do it.”

Chapter Eighteen

Liz looked up from her pillow as she heard the knock on her door. She still had tear’s in her eye’s, she couldn’t let Brendan see her like that.

Another knock sounded on her door as she sat up. She quickly got up from the bed and crossed the room to go open the door. She brushed the remaining tears from her eye’s, desperately trying to hide the fact that she had been crying even though she knew that was impossible considering her eye’s were red and blotchy.

She unlocked the door and pulled open the door, her mouth dropping opening at the sight of Maria and Kyle who stood before her.

“Hey, Liz.” Kyle said. “Nice to see you again.”

Liz was so shocked she barely managed to answer, “K-Kyle.” She choked out. “What are you- what are you doing here?”

“Geez, Liz.” Kyle said, “I thought you’d be just a little happier to see us considering we haven’t seen you in, oh say, seven year’s?”

“I-” Liz stuttered. “I am. Happy to see you. I just- wasn’t expecting to see you here.”

“Well, here we are.” Kyle said. “Now, mind if we come in?”

“Of course,” Liz said, stepping out of Kyle and Maria’s face. Liz noticed that Maria hadn’t said a word yet. And worst, Maria hadn’t even looked at her yet.

“Nice room,” Kyle said, impressed as he took in the sight of the room.

“Yeah,” Liz said, brushing a strand of long brown hair out of her face. “It is pretty nice isn’t it?”

“So, Liz.” Kyle said, taking a seat on her bed. “How’s life been treating you?”

Liz could see that Kyle sounded mad. Sure he wasn’t saying anything against her, but there was something in his voice. And Maria wasn’t saying anything which was so unlike her. She was sure to blow up any second now and start yelling at Liz for everything she had put them through.

“Life’s been...treating me well.” Liz answered, swallowing hard.

“Well that’s fantastic.” Kyle answered.

“Your mad.” Liz said quietly as she sat down next on the bed next to Kyle. Maria remained standing by the door.

“Why would you think that?” Kyle asked, shooting her a look. “Why would we be mad at you?”

“Come on, Kyle.” Liz said, “Just..let me here it. Don’t just sit there and pretend you’re not pissed off.” She looked up at Maria, who for the first time actually looked back at her. “You too, Maria. Just yell or something.”

“Look, we’re not mad at you and we’re not here to give you any crap.” Kyle said with a small sighed.

“Yes, we are.” Maria said, speaking up for the first time since she had seen Liz. “For God’s sake, Kyle, we’ve been worried about her for year’s. I’m not going to just stand here and pretend nothing’s happened.”

“Maria,” Kyle said in a warning tone.

“Fine,” Maria spat out. “I can’t do this.” She turned and quickly walked out of the room, slamming the door behind her.

“I can’t say I really blame her,” Kyle said. “Look, I’m sorry Liz but you did leave us. I think the worst part in all of this is that you didn’t even think to give us a call. I mean, do you have any idea what you put your parent’s through? Or what you put me, Maria, and Max through?”

Liz let out a small snort. “Oh, please.” She said, “Like Max ever gave a shit about me. He slept with Tess and got her pregnant.”

“You pushed him away Liz.” Kyle said, “You made him think that we had slept together. You pushed him straight into Tess’s arms.”

“But I had to do it!” Liz said, “Max made me do that!”

Kyle frowned. “Max asked you to set up this thing where he would catch you and me together in bed?”

“Ye- No.” Liz said, shaking her head. “I had a visit from Future Max and he told me that the world would end if Max and I stayed together.” She paused, watching Kyle’s confused face. “Look, none of this matter’s anymore. It’s all in the past.”

“It does matter what happened seven year’s ago, Liz.” Kyle said, gently.

“No, it doesn’t.” Liz said, getting up from the bed. “It’s all in the past now. And the past is not something I want to talk about anymore. I have a good life now, Kyle. I have an amazing career that I love. I have two amazing best friends back in San Francisco, and I have the most amazing boyfriend ever.”

“Liz, I didn’t come here to force you to drop everything you have in your life just to make you go back to Roswell.” Kyle explained. “I just- we just wanted to see you again. To make sure you we’re alright. Maybe even to get some closure and maybe make you give a call to your extremely worried parent’s back in Roswell.”
“I know I should of called them before.” Liz said, slumping back down on the bed next to Kyle. “I should of at least given them a simple phone call, or even maybe just written them a letter.” She paused, shaking her head. “I was just...scared. I don’t know why I was scared. I guess I was just afraid of what they would say, how hey would react.”

“It’s never to late to try to make thing’s right.” Kyle said. “You should really give them a call. They know you’re here in New York. And they also know that Maria, Michael, and I flew in from Roswell to come see you. So they will be expecting a phone call from you.”

“I’ll give them a call,” Liz said, “You’re right. It’s wrong and I should of called them before.”

“Alright, then.” Kyle said. “But before you make that call, why don’t you and I go grab something to eat and you can fill me in on everything that’s been going on in your life, since I know that you’ll probably on the phone until sometime tommorow if you give your parent’s a call now..”

Liz mustered a small smile. “Sounds like a good idea to me.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Maria stormed out of the Liz’s room as fast as she could, heading down the hall in a hurry towards the elevator. Tears we’re already starting to spill down her cheeks, she just had to get out of here.

She had thought that she would of been able to handle the whole seeing Liz again only she hadn’t been. She had completely frozen up at the sight of her, her entire past had just come crashing back.

Maria waited for the elevator to stop on the first floor of the hotel where the lobby was situated. She was planning on getting out of here and going for a small walk around town to clear her mind a little. Only as soon as the elevator stopped and the door’s opened, she saw Xander standing there.

“Xander,” She said with a small frown as she quickly walked up to him. She bend down to his level, taking the small boy’s hand in her own. “Sweetie, what are you doing down here all alone? You should be upstairs with your father.”

“I know,” The little boy smiled up at her. “But daddy was busy talking to Uncle Michael and Auntie Isabel so daddy put me in his room to watch television. But I got bored because there was nothing on tv so I decided to go looking for my mommy.”

Maria’s mouth practically dropped open at the mention of Xander’s mother. This was so not happening.

“What do you mean?” Maria asked, brushing a strand of brown hair away from the small boy’s face. “Did you see her? Is she here? In the hotel?”

“Yup.” Xander said. “And I talked to her too. Not a lot though. She brought me downstair’s to see the pool.”

Panic started building inside of Maria. This wasn’t happening. Tess Harding wasn’t here. She just couldn’t be.

“You know,” Xander started, a small frown creasing his forehead. “I think daddy lied to me. He said my mommy was that small blonde lady I saw the other day...but I think he was wrong. The blonde lady isn’t my mommy.”

“Okay, now I’m lost.” Maria said, leading Xander towards the seat in the middle of the lobby. She sat down, Xander sat down next to her.

“What do you mean by that, Xan?” Maria asked him, “What do you mean by the blonde lady isn’t your real mommy?”

“Xander!” Max exclaimed as soon as he spotted Maria sitting next to his son. He quickly hurried over to his son and took the small boy in his arm’s. “Jesus, Xander.” He said, “You have to stop doing this. You can’t just take off like that without telling daddy where you’re going.”

“I’m sorry, daddy.” Xander said, hugging Max tightly around the neck. “I’m sorry I scared you. I didn’t want to do that. I was just looking for my real mommy.”

Max’s eye’s widened in shock as he looked down at Maria, who was just as shocked as she was. Max quickly placed the small boy back down on the seat.

“What do you mean, Xander?” He choked out. “She’s here?” He looked up at Maria. “Did you see her? Did you see Tess?”

“Max,” Maria said, swallowing hard. “I...I don’t think he’s talking about Tess.”

“Daddy you lied to me,” The small boy said. “Why did you tell me that the blonde lady was my mommy?”

“I didn’t lie to you,” Max said, looking into Xander’s eye. “I would never lie to you, Xan.”

“But you did,” Xander replied. “The blonde lady isn’t my mommy. That other lady with the brown hair is. Liz is my real mommy.”

Max thought he was going to black out. Why was his son saying this to him?

“Xander,” Max started. “I’m sorry, but, Liz isn’t your mother. It’s impossible. Honey, why would you think something like that? What make’s you think that Liz is your mom?”

“Because,” Xander said. “I saw thing’s when I was holding Liz’s hand. Image’s.”

“Oh, my God.” Maria said, looking at Max and Max knew what she meant to say. Xander was completely human. Or so that’s what Tess had told him when Xander had been born. So how the hell was it possible for Xander to have had a flash?

“What did you see?” Max asked, taking his son’s hand in his own. “What did you see when you touched Liz?”

“I’m not sure,” Xander answered with a small shrug. “The image’s flew by to quickly, I didn’t see much. But I just know that Liz is my real mommy. Why didn’t you ever tell me about her, daddy?”

“This is impossible.” Max said, standing up as he ran a hand through his dark hair. “It’s impossible, right Maria? I man, I would know something like this.”

“Why isn’t mommy living with us, then?” Xander questioned. “I mean, mommy’s are supposed to be with daddy’s. Isn’t that the way it work’s.”

“Xander, I’m sorry.” Max said. “But what you saw isn’t real. It can’t be real. Liz isn’t your mommy.”

“But she is,” Xander insisted. “Liz, is my mommy. Your wrong and now I have to go find her.”

“Why didn’t you say anything before about having seen those...image’s?” Max asked.

“Because you we’re busy talking to Uncle Michael and Aunt Izzy.” Xander answered, hoping off the couch. “That’s why I didn’t tell you anything.”

“And why did you leave without telling me anything?” Max asked. “I was worried, Xander.”

“I’m sorry, daddy.” Xander said, wrapping his small arms around Max’s legs. “I promise I won’t do it again.”

Max quickly bent down to pick Xander up in his arm’s again. Maria looked up at him, a worried expression on her face which Max could understand. He had no idea what was going on with Xander. Had Tess lied to him about Xander being human? She probably had considering that all Tess Harding was good at was lying and manipulating people. But the real question was; why? Whyhad Tess lied to him about Xander being human? And the thing that bothered him the most was why Xander thought that Liz was his mother. What had he seen in those flashes to make him think that?

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Yo, this is some serious shit your asking us to do.” Rath said, leaning back on the couch.

“Khivar wants you to do this.” Tess said, “You have to do this. You’ll be free to return home to Khivar if you do. Just think about that.”

“But I mean, a kid?” Lonnie asked, “That’s a little extreme don’t you think? I mean, don’t get me wrong, humans are pathetic and I have killed humans- people before. But a kid?”

“Fine,” Tess said, “You handle Max Evans and I’ll handle Liz Parker and the child. I won’t hurt the child but I’ll have to do something with him. I’ll just deliver him to Khivar, after that he can do whatever he wants to with him.”

“Sounds like a plan to me,” Lonnie said. “So all we have to do is kill Max Evans and we get to go home?”

“That’s the plan,” Tess replied coolly.

“What about those other aliens?” Rath asked. “That asshole of a twin of mine? And Lonnie’s dupe?”

“I don’t care what happens to them.” Tess answered. “I just want Max Evans and Liz Parker dead and I don’t care who you have to kill in the process I just want them dead. And remember what I said before, you only have a week to do so. Khivar’s a very impatient man.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“So you think she’s okay?” Rachel asked as she sat down at the table, setting down two glass’s of Perrier water bottles. The two we’re sitting at a small café downtown of San Francisco

“I’m sure Liz is fine,” Serena said. “You know Liz, she can take care of herself.”

“Yeah, your right.” Rachel said with a small shrug. “So, do you actually think she’s going to accept Brendan’s proposal?”

“I’m not sure anymore.” Serena said, “Not with her ex-boyfriend in New York with her she won’t.”

“I think she will,” Rachel said. “I know she loves Brendan. And I mean, those two are so meant to be together.”

“I don’t think the girl suspects a thing about the whole proposal thing.” Serena said with a smile. “She’ll be so surprised.”

“Yeah,” Rachel said taking a sip of her bottle. “Seriously, she’ll never see it coming.”

“So,” Serena said, “How’s John?”

“ Josh,” Rachel corrected her. “And I broke up with him.”

“But you’ve only been going out for the past week, what the hell happened?” Serena asked, making a face.

“Yeah, well,” Rachel answered with a small shrug. “He’s not really my type. That and the fact that he’s gay.”

“He’s what?” Serena said, almost choking on her drink. “You have got to be kidding me.”

“Nope, I’m not joking around or anything.” Rachel answered. “He really is gay. The guy announced it to me yesterday night while we we’re out on a date.”

“Wow, I’m so sorry.” Serena said. “That must of hurt.”

“Nah,” Rachel said, “I’ve only been going out with him for a week. I don’t really care, I’m actually happy that this happened. Now I’m free to flirt with any guy I want including that hot guy that’s sitting by the bar over there so if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go see if that hottie’s available.”

“Don’t forget to ask him if he’s gay first,” Serena pointed out as Rachel stood up from her seat.

“Don’t worry I won’t.” Rachel answered, flashing her a smile before taking off towards the bar. Serena smiled and shook her head. Rachel sure as hell was a very feisty girl, which was kind of weird considering that she was the complete opposite of Rachel. How she and Rachel had become close friends was beyond her, they didn’t even share the same interest.

Although she wondered what Rachel would say If she knew the truth about her. She wondered how she would react to know that Serena wasn’t exactly who Rachel thought she was.

Free - Ch.19

“So you actually finished high school and College?” Kyle sat across from Liz, the two had been talking in the small café of the hotel for the past half hour. “That’s pretty impressive.”

“I was lucky,” Liz answered with a small shrug. “I never would of had the job I have today if it wouldn’t of been for Rachel’s mom, Lois, she really did a lot for me.”

“Wow, I'm really impressed.” Kyle said, smiling at her. "That you managed to finish both High school and College and that you got yourself a pretty damn good job."

“Well, what about you?” Liz asked. "You obviously finished high school, what about College?"

“Wellll.” Kyle said. “I went to College but I only went for two year’s. I decided to open my own garage back in Roswell and it’s going pretty good. I’m even thinking of starting up another garage or two on Las Cruces and Santa Fe, only nothing’s set in stone yet.”

“Wow, Kyle.” Liz said, amazed. “That’s amazing, I mean, seriously.”

“Yeah,” Kyle said. “I have to admit, I’m doing pretty good for myself.”

“And what about your dad?” Liz asked. “How’s he doing?”

“My dad,” Kyle snorted a small laugh as he took a sip of his water bottle. “He finally got married. To Amy Deluca.”

“So Maria’s your,” Liz started only Kyle finished her sentence for her, “My stepsister.” Kyle said. “That’s right. Took a small while to get used to it.”

"I bet," Liz said. “And what about a girlfriend? Or, I mean, are you married or something? Kids? ” Liz asked curiously.

“Me?” Kyle asked, “Married? No way. I’m not married and I certainly don’t have any kids, no girlfriend either. I actually haven’t had a girlfriend for the past six months. But what about you? You must have a boyfriend.”

“I actually do.” Liz answered with a smile as she thought of Brendan. “Brendan, he’s Lawyer which is basically the reason that we’re here in New York this weekend, something about a meeting."

“Yeah, I know about that.” Kyle answered. “That’s why Mr.Evans flew here too along with Isabel and...Max...and his son.”

“Yeah,” Liz answered softly. "I know."

“So...you’ve talked to him?” Kyle asked. “Max, I mean.”

Liz swallowed hard before answering him, just the thought of Max made her insides churn.

“Yes.” Liz answered. “I did.”

“And he told you about Tess?” Kyle asked, not quite looking her in the eye.

“Yes,” Liz answered once more. “He told me...about her killing Alex. He told me everything...I think."

“I’m sorry,” Kyle said quietly.

“I-” She choked, feeling tears’ rising to the surface. “I really had no idea that Tess had killed Alex.”

“I know,” Kyle said gently. “We had no idea either Liz. We found out only a short while after Zan was born.”

“But you didn’t do anything.” Liz said, her voice going from sad to slight anger. “None of you did anything, you just let her leave town.”

“We couldn’t kill her.” Kyle explained, feeling Liz’s pain. “None of us could do it, Liz. Max tried- but she is Zan’s mother and he just couldn’t muster up the courage to kill her. So he threatened her and told her to leave town and never to come back. That if she ever came near Max, Zan or any of us, he would kill her.”

“But she didn’t pay for his murder,” Liz said, angrily.

“Well...” Kyle said. “Max did bruise her up pretty badly when he found out.”

“Oh, wow.” Liz said, sarcasm rolling off her tongue. “That must of done her lots of good. Bet you she left you alone after that."

“Liz, you wouldn’t of been able to kill Tess either,” Kyle said quietly. “Because you know better, your not a killer, Liz. By killing Tess that would of made you just that, a killer, which you are not.”

“I know,” Liz said finally with a sighed. “It’s just-”

“Hey,” A voice said. Liz quickly looked up to find herself staring at Brendan, who had a slightly puzzled look as he looked at Liz and then at Kyle.

“Boyfriend?” Kyle asked, glancing upwards at Brendan.

“Hey, Brendan,” Liz said, quickly getting up from her chair to give him a quick hug and a kiss. “I didn’t think you’d be back so early.”

“Well, I got tired so I just left the meeting,” Brendan answered, still looking at Kyle. “Not that anybody really cared considering that my dad's there now sitrring thing's up." He glanced down at Kyle, "And who are you exactly?” He asked curiously.

“I’m Kyle,” Kyle answered a little coldly. “And don’t worry, I’m not some idiot hitting on your girlfriend or something, I’m actually an old friend of her’s.”

“Oh,” Brendan said. “Right...and where did you two meet exactly?”

“Roswell,” Liz answered. “We used to live in the same town and went to the same High school.

“Really?” Brendan said, trying to sound enthusiastic. “That’s great.”

“Yeah,” Kyle said, "We also dated." Kyle knew that Liz would kill him if he said to much, but he just couldn't help it. For some weird reason he just didn't like this guy.

As he had predicted, as soon as the words we're out of his mouth, Liz shot him a warning look before she turned to her boyfriend. "It was year's ago." She said.

“Well.” Brendan said, wrapping a protective arm around his girlfriend, he turned to look at her. “I guess I’ll let you two catch up, I really should head upstairs to take a quick shower before we head out for supper.”

“I have to go myself anyway’s.” Kyle said as he stood up from the table. He reached out and shook Brendan’s hand. “It was nice meeting you, Brennan.”

“Brendan,” Brendan corrected him with a forced smile on his face. “It was nice meeting you too,”

“I’ll see you soon, Liz.” Kyle said, shooting her a small smile before walking off towards the staircase.

“Well that was fun,” Brendan said sarcastically.

"It was year's ago, Brendan." Liz said, "Trust me, we went out for a couple of months, I was barely sixteen."

"Yeah," Brendan answered with a sighed.

“You okay?” Liz asked, pressing herself against Brendan as he reached to hug her.

“I’m fine,” Brendan answered. “I just had a rough day that’s all what with my dad flying in and all, you know I have issues with the guy."

"Well, the, let's just get out of here and go to dinner." Liz said, smiling up at Brendan. "It'll take you're mind off of everything."

And it'll take some thing's off of my mind too, she thought to herself.

"You're right," Brendan said, leanning in and placing a kiss on top of her head. "Let's get out of here."

*************************************************************

“But that’s...impossible, is it?” Isabel said, pacing the hotel room. Max sat on the bed next to Michael, and Maria. Zan lay on the bed, his small body curled onto his side as he slept peacefully.

“I know it sounds crazy,” Max said with a sigh. “None of it makes sense.”

“Why would Tess lie to you about Zan’s powers?” Isabel asked, “None of it makes any sense.”

“I know,” Max said. “But the part that worries me the most is what Zan says he saw in that flash. What he saw must of been pretty powerful because he’s convinced that Liz is his mom.”

The door suddenly opened and Kyle walked into the room, closing the door behind him. He then turned around to face the rest of the gang.

“So?” Maria asked from the bed. “What happened? What did...what did she tell you?”

“Well, we had a long talk.” Kyle said. “We went downstairs at that café place and we just talked for like half an hour. That is until her boyfriend interrupted us.”

“Her boyfriend?” Maria asked.

“Yup,” Kyle said. “He looks like a classy guy. I don’t like him.”

“Well, what did she tell you?” Maria asked.

“She has a good life.” Kyle answered. “She’s doing good. I don’t think-”

“Daddy?” A small voice called out quietly from behind Max. Max immediately turned around towards his son.

“Daddy, I’m hungry.” The small boy said, rubbing his eye’s. “Can we go eat now?”

“Well, we have to wait for Grandpa to come back.” Max said, taking his son in his arm’s. “He’ll be home soon, then we can go out to the restaurant, okay?”

“Okay, daddy.” Zan said. “Hi, Kyle.” He said, waving at Kyle, who stood quietly next to Isabel.

“Hey there little guy,” Kyle answered, smiling at Zan.

“I’m not that little,” Zan whined, wrapping his arm’s around Max’s neck.

“I know that,” Kyle said. “Your big boy now.”

“Yup,” Zan answered, his voice muffled by his father’s shirt.

Max let out a small sighed, hugging his son more tightly. He wondered what he should do next. He wanted to speak to Liz so badly but he knew he couldn’t do that, she would be too mad at him after what he had told her about Tess. But God he wanted to see her.

“What do we do now, Max?” Isabel asked from her position by the window that overlooked the city of New York.

“I-I’m not sure,” Max answered quietly. “Maybe we shouldn’t do anything for tonight, maybe we should just take it easy.”

“Sounds good to me,” Michael said. “I haven’t been in this place for a long time, I say we just forget about our problems for one night and try to have a little fun.”

“How the hell are we supposed to do that?” Maria said. Max quickly held his hands up to Zan’s ears so that he wouldn’t hear what had come out of Maria’s mouth.

“Maria, the boy.” Michael warned, glancing at Zan.

“I’m just saying,” Maria said, lowering her voice and shooting Max an look of apology. “How are we supposed to have fun and not thinking about everything that’s going on right now?”

“Well, we can try.” Michael said. “Look, I know this is pretty bad but I’m not gonna sit on my...butt all evening brooding like you guy’s. Let’s just go out and have a good meal, I’m starving.”

“What’s new,” Isabel said, rolling her eye’s. “But, I think that for once Michael is actually right. Sitting around all day isn’t going to fix anything. Let’s just get out of here and go get something to eat. There’s this really good restaurant a couple of miles from here that I’d like to try.”

“Sounds like a plan to me,” Kyle said, glancing at Max and Maria for approval. “What do you guy’s say?”

“I...” Maria trailed off. “Fine, whatever you guy’s say.”

“That’s my girl,” Michael said, wrapping an arm around her shoulder’s. “What about you, Maxwell?”

“I think that...” Max said, “I need to speak to Liz.”

“Max,” Kyle said. “Listen, I know you want to speak to her. But you can’t. Not now. She’s still processing all that stuff you told her about Tess and I don’t think she’d speak to you if you should up at her door, she’s still pretty mad. And second of all, she’s with her boyfriend.”

“You can try talking to her tommorow again,” Isabel said, trying to reassure her brother. She walked up and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.

Max sighed. He knew his sister was right. He couldn’t talk to Liz anymore tonight. But that didn’t mean that this would stop him from trying tommorow.

“Fine,” Max finally agreed. “Let’s go get something to eat.”

“What about what Zan said about Liz before?” Maria spoke up quietly from beside him.

Everyone was quiet for a while, unsure of what to answer, especially with Zan in the room.

Max swallowed hard, thinking about what Zan had told him earlier about Liz being Zan’s true mother. None of it made any sense, he was sure that Tess was Zan’s real mother. But why would Zan saying something like? And had Liz gotten a flash from Zan too?

"We can figure it all out tommorow." Michael said, standing up. "For now, let's just get out of here."

"Yay," Zan said, still holding on to his father tightly. "Food!"
