Chapter Ten
“Max,” Liz gasped loudly when she turned around and saw him standing there. She stood there standing by the entrance of the Hotel, rooted to the spot.
“W-what are you doing here?” She asked, her eyes widened in shock. So much for trying to avoid him this weekend. She hadn’t expected to see him so soon!
“What are you doing here?” Max asked, his eye’s never leaving her’s.
“I- I’m here on-” Liz started but was interrupted abruptly by Max.
“On vacation with your boyfriend?” He shot a glance at the man who stood behind Liz. “Or is it your husband? I’m sorry I wasn’t too clear on that one.”
He’s mad, Liz thought as she looked at his face. And dammit he has absolutely no reason to be mad at me! He’s the one with the kid
“How dare you,” Liz started, pointing an angry finger at his face, “How dare you come here and start talking to me about what strictly does not concern you! My personal life is none of your damned business!”
She turned around and faced the man who had called for her car’s only minutes early.
“How much more time until the car get’s here??” She asked the man, eager to get the hell out of here as fast as she could. She couldn’t go back inside the hotel, he would simply follow her back to her room. The car seemed to be the only solution to get out of here.
“It should be here any second now,” The man answered, curiously shooting a glance at Max.
“Liz, your not going anywhere,” Max said grabbing her arm and turning her towards him. Liz quickly pulled away from his touch.
“Stay the hell away from me,” She said angrily as a Brendan’s white Mercedes suddenly pulled up behind her.
She turned on her heels and walked around the car as the man opened the front door for her. She got inside the car and the passenger door suddenly swung open and Max got in beside her.
“I’m not going anywhere until we talk,” He said stubbornly. “You owe me that much Liz. After everything you’ve done to me over the years, everything you’ve done to your friends back in Roswell and everything you did to your parents, the least you can do is talk to me.”
“I don’t owe you anything,” Liz said, anger building more and more inside of her, causing her blood to boil. “You’re the one who drove me out of Roswell! All of you! I made the right choice and I don’t regret leaving Roswell one second!” She pause and took a deep breath, “Now get out of the car, get out of my life or I swear I’m gonna get my husband to kick your ass!”
Little white lie won’t hurt anyone, Liz thought quickly as she saw the pain form on his face and slowly began to regret her words.
But not quite.
“Just go back to your son and Tess or whatever and leave me alone, okay?” Liz said, a little more gently this time. “I’ll be gone in less than four day’s. Just keep quiet and don’t tell anybody that you saw me.”
She turned and looked at his face, not daring herself to look into his eye’s.
He grabbed the car handle, opened the door and stepped out of the car, looking back at her once more before closing the door behind him.
And that’s when Liz made the mistake to look at him but to really look at him. His face was filled with confusion and pain as he looked down at her through the window of the car.
Finally he turned and walked away back inside the Hotel.
Liz let out a shaky sighed and pressed her heard against the steering wheel. Unable to keep everything bottled up inside anywhere, she let the tears spill down her face.

Philip Evans glimpsed at his watch eagerly. This meeting had been going on for the last hour and he was bored already. He couldn’t stop thinking about Max and that Parker girl. He couldn’t bear to think of the look on his son’s face when he had spotted Liz Parker earlier at the Hotel with that man, Brendan. And that man happened to be sitting directly across from him in the brightly lit conference room that was situated right smack in the middle of New York City.
Philip looked around, taking in every single person in the room as Eric Chasse, one of the best Attorney’s from Boston, drowned on. From the tall, brown haired middle aged man that was sitting to his right to the black-haired women sitting at the far-end of the table.
Finally he rested his eye’s on the famous Brendan Harris. The guy who was supposedly Liz Parker’s boyfriend. Or so that’s what had seemed when he had spotted them earlier this morning.
No engagement ring, Philip thought as his eye’s scanned Brendan’s hand. No wedding band either. Max will be happy to know that.
“Alright everyone let’s take a quick break.” Eric Chasse said, placing his folder on the table. “Meet back here in fifteen minutes.”
People all around scrambled to get up, each and everyone of them eager to get out of this hot and sticky room.
Philip watched as Brendan stood up from his chair and headed for the door. Philip stood up after him and followed him outside the room.
I’ll talk to him, Philip thought, I’ll see what I can get out of him about Liz Parker.
“Mr. Harris?” Philip said loudly when the two were standing outside the room. Brendan was pulling out his cell phone when he heard his name and turned around.
“Yes?” He said, turning and looking straight at Philip.
“Philip Evans,” Philip said, holding out his hand. Brendan shook it. “I’ve got my own small firm in New Mexico.”
“Oh, yeah,” Brendan said, grinning. “I read your name off a list somewhere.”
“I got to say I feel pretty damned impress,” Philip said, smiling back. “Here I am standing next to one of the best Lawyer’s on the West Coast.”
“Hey, I’m not that good.” Brendan said, “Really, my dad just likes to exaggerate and make a big deal out of me being a Lawyer and following in his footsteps.”
“So where you from Mr.Harris?” Philip asked, trying to sound normal.
“San Francisco,” Brendan answered, the smile never leaving his face. “And, please, call me Brendan.”
“Alright, Brendan.” Philip said. “So, San Francisco, huh? Nice place to live in. And you’re here for the weekend if I’m correct? D’you leave a wife back there?”
“Oh, no.” Brendan said, “I’m not married. I did bring my girlfriend along for he weekend though. And I’m actually planning on proposing to her this weekend. She doesn’t know anything about it, unless her friends told her about it. Her friends kind of have big mouths, I wouldn’t be surprised if they told her about it already.”
Max is going to be crushed when he hears about this, Philip though, clenching his teeth together.
“That sounds great,” Philip said, “You must love her very much.”
Brendan nodded, “Yeah, I do. She’s an amazing women, she’s smart, beautiful, funny, I really want to spend the rest of my life by her side.”
Philip swallowed hard. “Well, good for you.”
“What about you?” Brendan asked. “I supposed you have a wife back in New Mexico? Do you have any children?”
Philip nodded, “Yeah, I have two children. They’re pretty much all grown up though. My son, Max, he’s 25 year’s old, he’s got a 7 year old son. And my daughter, Isabel, she’s also 25 year’s old. She works for me at my law firm. I brought the here to New York with me for the weekend.”
“Wow, that sounds great.” Brendan answered, he glanced at the door to the conference room and noticed that people were starting to walk back inside.
“It’s one long meeting isn’t it?” Brendan asked, noticing that Philip was staring at the people who were started to head back inside.
“Yeah,” Philip said as the two started walking back towards the conference room. “I can’t wait for it to be over so I can head back to see my see my family.”
“Yeah, I get what your saying.” Brendan answered with a small sighed. “I’ve only been away from my girlfriend for the past hour and I miss her like crazy already.”
“It was really nice talking to you by the way.” He reached out and shook Brendan’s hand one last time before the two had to re-enter the conference room. “And good look with your girlfriend by the way. I hope it works out for you. Both of you.”
“Thanks,” Brendan answered, “And it was nice talking to you too.”
The two nodded and smiled and then entered the conference room. Philip Evans took sat down at his usual seat, his mind racing his thoughts. He just hoped that Isabel had phoned the Parker’s that their daughter was alive and was presently here in New York City.

Isabel placed the phone back down on the receiver with a sighed. She had just gotten off the phone with the Parker’s. She had been on the phone with them for the past fifteen minutes. She had explained to them where they were and where they had seen Liz and with whom they had seen her with. After all the explaining she had had to listen to them crying for a good ten minutes before they had finally calmed down. They had begged her to try to get Liz to give them a call, or better yet to fly back to Roswell to see her parents. Isabel had then told them that she would try her best and the Parker’s had promised to fly down to New York if she couldn’t get Liz to give them a call.
Once she had place the phone back down, she turned back to Xander, who she had promised to buy a milkshake when she was done with the phone calls.
Of course she hadn’t had the chance to give Maria, Michael, and Kyle a call. But she promised herself that she would do just that once she had gotten her patient nephew his milkshake.
“Are you done now, Aunt Izzy?” Xander asked impatiently as he played with his toys on the floor. “You promised me a milkshake when you were done with your phone calls and you’ve been on the phone for a long time now.”
“I know, sweetie.” Isabel said, taking her nephew’s hand in her own. “I’m all done with my phone calls now though so how about we go get you that milkshake, huh?”
Xander grinned widely. “Okay,” He said. Isabel smiled back. She was hoping to get her mind off of everything that was going on right now.
“Do you think that nice lady from before would like to come get some milkshake with us?” Xander asked, curiously as Isabel led the way out of the hotel room and down to the lobby.
“Uh, honey, I don’t think so.” Isabel answered.
“She helped me find you before when I was lost,” Xander said, a small frown creasing his forehead. “I think you should buy her a milkshake.”
Isabel let out a small laugh. God this kid was adorable. He was the complete opposite of his father and he wasn’t even comparable to his mother.
“Maybe another time, okay?” Isabel answered as she led her nephew downstairs to the small café in the hotel.
“Okay, next time.” Xander answered.
Isabel ordered two drinks for both her and Xander. Once they had they’re drinks the two sat down at one of the tables by the café.
"When's daddy coming back?" Xander asked, taking a large loud sip from his chocolate milkshake. "He said he was going to take me around the city for some sight-seeing but he's not back yet."
"He'll be back soon," Isabel said, "Don't worry about it. You have all weekend to go sight-seeing anyway's."
"Good," Xander said, beaming. "Is Grandpa gonna come with us?"
"Maybe," Isabel answered, "We can ask him later when he comes back from his meeting, what do you say?"
"Okay," Xander said just as Isabel's cell phone rang. Isabel quickly reached inside her jean jacket and pulled out her cell phone. She glanced at the caller i.d and pressed the talk button.
