Hello My lovlies! Yes an actual update. Yeah, im surprised too.

I'm posting this rather quickly so i just want to say a HUGE thank you for all of the support. and without further adieu,

**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Kyle quickly made his way to where Maria was standing and smiled at her before deftly pushing her out the way.

“HEY!” Maria screamed in indignation before grabbing him by the back of his shirt. “Where do you think you’re going?”

Kyle turned an upraised eyebrow at Maria, “I was going into the kitchen to get some more ice. What? Do I need permission for that?”

Maria released her tight hold on his shirt before giving him a slightly sheepish look, “No. No, of course not. I just….er……I just was standing there and you pushed me out of the way. Very rudely I might add.”

Kyle gave her an innocent look, “Well, I would have asked nicely except I’m well aware that you are standing guard dragon for Max and Liz’s little liaison.”

“Guard dragon?”

“Yes, guard dragon. Guard dog just seems a bit too tame for you. And judging by the way you just grabbed me, I would say I was correct.”

Maria rolled her eyes at him and pursed her lips, “Well, anyway, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know where Max and Liz are.”

Kyle nodded his head. “Riiiiiiiight.” He said dragging out the word sarcastically, “Don’t worry Maria. I’m not going to try and interrupt them. I’m not that desperate.” He said muttering that last comment to himself.

And really he wasn’t…..right? So what if he hadn’t had any significant female contact in months. So what if he spent more time in the shower lately then he really should, ‘taking care of business’. So what if he had licked his lips at the sight of a bent over woman the other day only to find out it was Maria’s mom.

Uh…scratch that.

He was desperate.

Not able to look Maria in the eye anymore after that last thought, he sidestepped around her and made his way into the kitchen before opening the huge freezer doors. He pulled out two bags of ice and laid them on the table in the middle of the room. Taking the ice pick off the wall behind him, he noticed with wry humor that Maria didn’t move from her post at the door. Instead, she leaned against the open door while keeping an eye on both him and the party.

She has nothing to worry about. I’m not in a particular mood to see Evans getting some.

But even so, his eyes kept wandering to the ceiling and for a sick and twisted second he swore he heard noises coming from upstairs.

One deep breath and a firm shake of his head later, he resumed the tedious task of breaking the ice with the ice pick firmly in his grasp. There were easier ways to do this. Hell, he could throw the bags on the floor and let the fall break the ice apart that way. However, it was far more satisfying to imagine the ice in front of him was Max Evans face.

With renewed vigor, Kyle picked up his pace and tried his best not to let his eyes wander to the ceiling again.

“Max?” Liz whispered, “Max, did….did you see?”

Max nodded as he wiped away the tears that slid down her face, “Yeah. Yeah I did.”

Liz closed her eyes briefly. “Oh God Max. It was like I was there. As if it really happened.”

“It did. Just not to us. Not this version of us anyway.” Max swallowed hard at the feelings of warmth, happiness, safety and security that still coursed through him.

He wanted all of that. He wanted it so bad. He could still taste Liz’s skin under his tongue and the scent of her arousal still permeated his nostrils. He could still hear her giggle as he caught her in that hallway someday in the future that used to exist. He could still see the shadowy outline of the furniture in the apartment that he would never live in and while he couldn’t remember it all in excruciating detail, he remembered the feeling of………..home.

None of that would be his. None of it was what was planned for him anymore. He didn’t even know when he walked out of this room tonight what the status of their relationship was. So much stood in between them. Her deception. Her lies. The pain they all still brought.

And the biggest problem of all…..Tess.

It took him a moment to realize that his mind had been trying to tell him something whenever he was with her. What he had been mistaking for comforting feelings of friendship had been something else. Something that was being forced into him.

Tess……….

And without a second thought his eyes met Liz’s once more and he was thrust into the memories of a life he had moments ago wished he’d had the chance to have………
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*

"Well, well, well. If it isn’t Max Evans. Fancy meeting you here.”

Max whirled around from his reflection in the mirror. The hotel room he had been staying in temporarily until the wedding blurred slightly before coming into focus. A blonde stood haughtily at the doorway running a piece of silk from a decorative shawl through her fingers.

“Tess. What are you doing here?” Max asked angrily.

He had an hour before his wedding to Liz and no time to play games with her.

“Vegas is a big place Max. I came to have a little bit of fun. What about you? Why are
you here?” Tess raised her hand, stopping him as he opened his mouth, “Wait. Let me take a lucky guess. You think you’re marrying Liz.”

Max’s lips thinned into a straight thin line as he raised his hand and closed the door behind Tess with a slam. In a blur of movement, he was in front of a wide eyed Tess. Before she could blink, he brought both her arms behind her in a painful grasp effectively blocking her from raising her hand again.

Tess started to laugh. A laugh full of menace and an underlying sense of pain that had nothing to do with the physicality’s of her current situation but everything to do with the blackness of heartbreak.

“Do you really believe for one second that by not letting my hands go you’ll stop me from using my powers on you?” Tess laughed again and Max couldn’t help but notice the manic roll of her eyes

“All I know is that you’re leaving. Now.”

Tess’s laughter cut off abruptly. “I’m not going anywhere. You’ll marry that piece of shit human over my dead body.”

Max tensed and his grip tightened even further causing Tess to gasp in discomfort despite her bravado. “Don’t tempt me Tess.”

Tess’ face turned ugly as she glared at him. “Or what, boy? Do you really think anything you say will frighten me? You belong with me. Your Queen. When will you open your eyes and see that?”

“When will you see that I feel nothing but contempt for you?”

Tess started to breath deeply as her anger started to overshadow any other human emotions she may be having. “I swear to you Max, if you marry her I will kill her. I will get into her mind and I will make it so that she is begging me to end her life.”

Max’s body stilled as he lowered his eyes for a brief moment before raising them to Tess’s once more. Tess gasped as she saw the soft glow of amber in his eyes lighten until they became yellow. Power radiated from his gaze and seemed to fill the room and pulse.

Her thoughts became his thoughts and he was in her mind, in her eyes…..

When Max spoke, his voice was deeper than she had ever remembered it being, “I’m giving you one chance Tess. One. I’m going to assume that everything you just said was your silly bravado speaking and you are not so stupid as to try and threaten me or Liz.” Max’s grip tightened even further and Tess couldn’t help the short cry that leaked out. "Don’t ever let me see you again. If I ever hear that you so much as think of breaking Liz’s fingernail, I will break your body into dust.” Max mouth slid into a smile that could only be described as feline, “It’s been awhile Tess, but now I know your aura. I’ll know whenever you’re within our vicinity. How far my power goes I won’t tell you. But believe me when I say that I
will know. Don’t test me.”

Suddenly, a large flash blinded Tess momentarily and she felt a pain radiating from the back of her skull. And then she could feel it. She could feel a touching in her mind, almost as if fingers were sifting through files in her head. She saw flashes of memories from when she had been with all of them in Roswell High. She saw and felt her heart wrench every time Max was in her vicinity.

Her love for him blinded everything else. Everything she might have been. Every moment of happiness she might have had. Kyle’s face floated ever so briefly and she felt the bittersweet tang of yearning.

But only Max mattered.

Except the day he had broken her heart had been the end.

Or so she had thought.

She had needed to leave. Needed to figure things out for herself, needed to know how to live a life that didn’t involve being an Alien Queen.

But she had learned quickly that once Max Evans had been in your life, in your heart, it was hard to get him out.

Then she had heard that Max and Liz planned on marrying.

She still didn’t know who or what had given her that little piece of info.

Only a letter with no return address and two sentences. She didn’t stop to think how anyone had known where she was. She didn’t stop to think how her presence was going to affect Max and Liz’s impending marriage. She had only thought about how much she missed and needed Max and it wasn’t fair that one person should want someone so badly and not have those feelings reciprocated even a little bit.

Immediately, Tess felt her anger and despair flow through her and she used it to garner her strength. Max had been a busy little bee. He had learned how to delve into a persons memories but he was still too soft. His love for Liz gave him his strength but that love was also his weakness.

Tess pushed against Max’s power and planted an image of a dead and bloody Liz into his mind. Anguish filled her senses immediately and she knew she had gotten to him. She used her momentary victory to her advantage and pushed Max out of her mind and off her body.

Quickly, breathing heavily, she kneeled in front of Max who sat on the floor trying to get his bearings together. She raised one hand and lifted his cloudy gaze to hers and wiped clean all memories of the last few minutes. She watched as he rose off his feet and moved mechanically toward the mirror and fixed his tie. Through sad, tired eyes she saw him start to whistle an off beat tune that she recognized as the strings of ‘Here comes the Bride’. She finally made her way to the door before closing it behind her.

Tess knew she only had a second before Max realized he wasn’t alone and the warp broke but she couldn’t help but lean against the door and revel in his presence. She felt her momentary control start to waver and she broke the mental tether that binded them and their thoughts and walked away…………………

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Max and Liz both gasped as the connection broke. Liz clutched her head as if she was in pain and Max immediately reached for her.

“Liz? Liz! Are you okay?”

Liz nodded her head. “Yeah. Yeah. I think so. It’s just that….I felt it. Your power.”

Max ran a hand along the back of his neck. “I know. Me too.” Max finally got up and walked towards the window in Liz’s room and looked out into the night sky.

“Liz?”

“Yeah?”

Without turning from the window Max crossed his arms in front of him and said, “If we got married when we were nineteen then that means in two years I gained all of that power. That is a big transformation from the things that I can do now. What changed?” His voice was husky, as he was lost in the memories.

He heard Liz walking up behind him. She just stood there without touching him. He knew she wanted to but he also knew that right now she wouldn’t.

“I’m not sure Max. Future Max…erm..you…said that the night of Gomez we were cemented. I’m…I’m not entirely sure what that means but maybe that has something to do with it.”

Still not turning around, Max tightened his arms in front of him even further and closed his hands tightly into fists. He could feel his fingernails creating those half moon circles in his palms and he wondered fleetingly if he would draw blood.

His life was, in short, a mess.

Liz’s life was a mess.

There were still so many unanswered questions. But he didn’t know what to ask first or even if he would get the answers he wanted if he did.

“Max?”

“Hmm?”

He heard Liz shift uncomfortably behind him, “Tess…she ummm…she threatened my life in the vision but the it also showed us that she supposedly wiped your mind clean of the memories. Why were we able to see what really happened? I don’t think you would have come back from the future to try and get me to get you and Tess together if you thought she would hurt me.”

Max finally turned from the window, leaned against the window frame with a sigh and stared at the carpet on Liz’s floor. “I don’t know. Its possible that Tess warps broke when he put the memories in you. He may not have even been aware of what he was showing you.” Max’s eyes traveled to Liz’s hands as she nervously wrung them together. He reached out and tugged on her fingers and brought her in between his legs. He finally raised his head and looked into her face. “I would have never came back and told you to do what you did if I thought for one second that Tess would hurt you.” Max’s lips curled into a rueful smile. “No matter how much you nagged me to go.”

Liz gave him a tired half smile and threaded her fingers through his, “I know. Now we have to figure out just how many times Tess may have come back to you over the years and just how much of a part she really played on the end of the world.” Liz’s gaze turned thoughtful and alarmed all at the same time. “Max, we don’t really know when she turned to the “dark side” so to speak. I mean, now that we’re not…together maybe she’s…..I don’t know.”

At Liz’s words Max eyes widened, and he stood up abruptly. He stepped around Liz and started to pace slowly. He remembered feeling uncomfortable around Tess and then suddenly being glad she was there. He remembered being angry at Tess in the Jeep and wishing he was somewhere else and then suddenly….he wasn’t.

Downstairs.

Downstairs, she had stopped him, she had grabbed his face and forced him to look at her. Every time he had been annoyed, upset, angry, suspicious it had magically disappeared
One touch to his hand and he was putty in her hands.

“Max?”

Max turned a furious gaze on Liz and she stepped back slightly. “Max, what is it?”

“She’s already turned. In fact, I think she always has been.”

“What? Max, what are you talking about?”

“Tess has been mindwarping me. Every time she feels I’m pulling away from her she “calms” me down. I think she touches me and makes all the anger at her disappear momentarily.” Max scoffed. “What is it with the women in my life trying to make my decisions for me?” He laughed once before shaking his head and ignoring the look on Liz’s face as she bit her lip and gazed at him sorrowfully.

“I’m sorry Max. I thought I was doing what was best for everyone. I thought I was….”

“Saving the world. Yeah. I got that. But the ironic part is that Tess probably believes that she’s saving our world. Antar.”

Liz shook her head. “No Max. I was trying to prevent people from dying. Tess will let nothing stand in her way to get to you even if it means she has to hurt people.”

Max looked at some distant corner of the room. “Same agenda. Different approach.”

Liz narrowed her eyes at him. “Don’t compare me to Tess. Don’t you dare. She threatened my life in that vision Max. I think given a chance she would have killed me.”

Max sighed as he deflated right before Liz’s eyes. “I’m so tired of all this Liz. I just want-I just wanted to be normal. I just wanted to be able to love you and live happily ever after.” He laughed softly. “Musings of a child. An alien child at that.”

“Max, I….I can’t undo anything that I’ve already done. I’m sorry for hurting you but I can’t say that if this happened all over again and I wasn’t aware of Tess deception that I wouldn’t make the same decisions.” Liz reached for Max’s arm, “Our relationship isn’t worth the risk of the end of the world. No matter how much I still…love you.”

Max’s eyes raised at Liz’s words. They filled him with sorrow and with elation at the same time. She still loved him. She said it. The words had come out of her mouth voluntarily.

Those words did to him what they always seemed to do. They made him forget everything else but her and how much he wanted her. How much he would sacrifice to hold her again and smell the sweet scent that clung to everything she wore and drove him out of his mind when he smelled it drifting through the hallways at school.

“Why?” He asked. “Loving you is so simple. Why is keeping it so damn difficult?”

Max lifted a hand to her face and traced the line of her trembling lips with his thumb. He watched as he slipped his other hand through the hair at the back of her head and tenderly brought her lips to his. One kiss and he was lost again. He laughed to himself and knew just what a happily browbeaten husband he must have been. He would have done anything for just one kiss, for just the caress of her lips against his.

And he wondered what lengths Tess would go to get the same from him.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~

Tess’s face hurt from all the smiling she was being forced to do. She didn’t want to smile. She didn’t want to laugh. She didn’t want to pretend to give a shit. All she wanted was to break away from all these people and find Max. He couldn’t even be given one second alone with that human. Tess knew just how strong their bond was. It was taking all of her energy to infiltrate it. But she did have one thing on her side. They didn’t have a clue as to just how far their connection went. They all went bananas when they had discovered the visions Liz was having whenever they got too intimate.

Oh yes.

She knew about that.

Kyle had a big mouth with just a tiny bit of prodding. But if they even had an inkling of what would happen when they completed their circle…..well then it would be bye-bye Tess.

And Tess couldn’t have that.

No matter what the cost.

So Tess continued to smile at her guests and ooo and ahh over her inane gifts.

She would have to make a move and fast. Something was happening. Her senses were screaming with it.

And she had to stop it.

Hello All! Look at me updating on the same day I said i would. I'm getting better and better with this responsibility thing. 8)

Ellie - As always your thoughts are insightful as well as filled to the brim with the funnies. As far as your concerns with Liz and her decision not to be with Max: Liz has a maddending way of doing the exact opposite of what we all want her to do. My muse seems to play her up that way as well. But no worries. It will all clear up a bit here.

Thanks to all those that have stuck it out with me throught the long periods of waiting! :D

Part 11

Max’s mouth slanted against Liz’s as his breath started to get caught in his throat. His heart started to pound erratically and he resisted the urge to slide his hands under Liz’s dress to the silkiness of her thighs.

The kiss was already starting to get out of control. While Max may have been exhibiting restraint, Liz didn’t seem to want to be bothered with the concept. Her hands had already slid under his shirt and were caressing the warm skin of his back. Her fingers slid to the front of his chest and brushed by his sensitive nipples, making him suck in a breath against her lips, before sliding lower to the clenched muscles of his stomach. Liz’s fingers were perilously close to the button at the top his slacks when Max felt a small squeeze on his erection. Max let out a surprised moan before breaking the kiss and laying his forehead against Liz’s, his breath coming out heavily.

“Liz, what are we doing?” His voice came out strangled as he struggled to get his bearings back.

He felt Liz shrug slightly as she brought her shaking fingers to his face and leaned his head back slightly so that his eyes met hers. She gave him a shaky half smile before sighing. “When we kissed……it felt so natural…….the next step seemed so natural. Seeing those visions, seeing what happened between us….I guess I got carried away.” Liz’s eyes dropped and her half smile faded. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. I guess I’m just as confused as ever. I just feel like I have no control over any of my emotions anymore.”

Max’s eyes scrunched up in confusion, “What do you mean?”

Liz took a deep breath and let it out on a sigh, “I mean that I need, I mean, I want…..” She rolled her eyes at herself.

Max brought her hips closer in between his legs until the front of her body pressed intimately against his own, “Liz, I have a question for you and it could be the hardest question you’ll ever answer or the easiest.”

Liz gave Max a tired look, almost as if she knew what his question was going to be, “Okay. What?”

“Do you want to be together?” Max put a finger on Liz’s lips when she opened her mouth to answer him. “Wait. I need you to know something first.”

Liz nodded and Max pulled his finger away.

“Tess….Tess is doing something to me. She’s manipulating me and I’m not sure whether it’s just because she wants me to be with her or she has some hidden agenda. But, if that vision we had is any indication, Tess is dangerous. And while I don’t want to put you in the middle of that…….I honestly think that the only way I’ve been able to avoid being in complete control of her……..is you.” Max looked down for a second before reaching for the hand Liz had on his chest. He laced his fingers through hers, squeezed and met her eyes once more. “My focus is and always has been on you. Lately, Tess has been able to infiltrate that because…I’ve been so angry with you and hurt, but no matter what…I still loved you.”

Liz sighed sadly, “Max….”

“I need you Liz. Yes, I need your help with Tess but more importantly than that I need you to tell me when I’m being pigheaded, when I’m being too soft, or when I need to be stronger. I need you to be there when I just need someone to love me unconditionally.” Max’s eyes grew brighter as his words carried across Liz’s lips.

Liz took their two grasped hands and brought them to her lips. She placed one kiss on his knuckles and brought her other hand to his cheek. She nodded her head as she brought his lips to hers gently before breaking away. “Yes. Yes, I want to be with you. Yes, I want to tell you when you’re being pigheaded.” Liz’s eyes burned bright with anger, “But most of all I want to find out what the hell Tess is trying to do to you.”

Max breathed out loudly as the tightness in his chest loosened. He looked deep into her eyes and smiled, “Together, we can do anything.”

Liz started to smile as she looked back into Max’s eyes. Her smile faltered as she started to feel herself fall into their depths.

“Max?” She asked breathlessly, unable to move her eyes from his. “What’s happen-.”

Liz was abruptly cut off as the world around them dissolved and they were plunged into another lifetime.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Just promise me you’ll be careful today Max. I just….I just have a bad feeling.”

Max gave his wife a big hug before running his hand through her hair once. “I’ll be fine. I’m going straight to my three o’clock class and then from there I’ll be back here for dinner okay?”

Liz lifted her head from his chest and nodded, “Okay, I just….I can’t explain it. My stomach has been on a roller coaster since I woke up this morning. I just want to find out why.”

Max kissed her forehead once, “I’ll be fine. We’ll figure it out. Together, we can do anything.” He kissed her quickly again. “Come on. You’re going to be late for class.” He ushered her to the door as he grabbed her backpack on the way out.

Liz gave him one last kiss and one more worried glance. “I’ll call you when I can.” She said before heading out the door.

Max watched as she went down the stairs of their apartment building before closing the door.

He went to the window to watch her slim form walk down the block to the bus stop until she disappeared from view. His heart ached as it always did when they were separated; only this time the ache was fear. Fear of what, he wasn’t exactly sure. Liz’s premonitions were getting stronger as time went on but they were also still erratic and unclear. They seemed to enhance whenever they were intimate but even that had slowed down some. Max’s powers had also seemed to reach their limit. When he and Liz had slept together for the first time something had changed within him. Within them both. But for almost two years now, since around the time of their wedding, he hadn’t been able to harness the power and neither had Liz. His added abilities had just seemed to slowly fade over time.

Not that it mattered.

All of that was behind them now. Max Evans was just that. Max Evans. Not Zan the King of Antar. Not a leader of a world. Just plain old Max Evans from Roswell who went to school in Boston with his beautiful wife Liz. He finally gained the anonymity that he had so desperately craved. Some days he thanked God for the opportunity to be normal but there were days like today that he wished he had concentrated on developing them some more. Days when fear lodged itself in his throat for Liz’s safety.

Max shook his head clear of morbid thoughts. Liz would be fine. They would be fine. Noone was after them any longer.

So why was his head starting to throb with tension?

Running a hand through his shaggy hair, Max made his way to the shower and turned on the water. He held his hands under the stream and waited for it to turn piping hot. He watched as the steam started to fill the room before he removed his shirt and rolled his shoulders to relieve some of the tension that had taken up residence there.

Max looked at the empty towel rack in front of him and realized he would have to get a clean towel before showering. He turned around to the doorway and was met with a pair of startling blue eyes. Max gasped before he stumbled backwards in shock and landed on his backside on the tiled floor.

“Tess?!” Max looked up from his position on the floor into eyes he had thought he would never see again. “Tess, what the hell are you doing here?”

Instead of answering him, Tess kneeled down in front of him and caught his face in her hands. Immediately, Max was caught by her gaze and was immobile.

“Well, hello Max.” He watched through distant eyes as Tess smiled at him. “It’s always good to see you, but I have to say that it is even better to see you half-naked.” Tess’ eyes lingered on the muscled plains of his chest before bringing her eyes back to his once again. “I see you haven’t stopped working out. May I say the fruits of your labor are extraordinarily sweet.”

Max’s mouth opened and closed as he tried to get words to formulate. Tess clucked her tongue at him. “Poor Max. It’s okay darling. I’m not letting you speak, so please don’t try. You may end up hurting yourself.” Tess brought up her other hand and pulled Max’s head back until his throat was exposed to her gaze. Tess brought her face close to his throat before inhaling deeply.

Max felt the fingers holding his face start to shake before he felt her lips graze the large pulse point in his neck. Her tongue flicked out and she started to suck on the beating pulse as a lover would. He felt disgust roll through him with an urgency and some semblance of control returned to him. He snapped his head forward and in the process his chin hit the top of Tess’ head. Quickly, he flung Tess off of him and into the doorframe before he scrambled to his feet. Tess was up and moving faster than he could blink and it was pure instinct that made him put his shield up before she could reach him again.

Max looked at her defiantly and readied himself for a fight. He was breathing heavily as he watched Tess smile and then laugh. She laughed so hard he felt it right down into his toes until abruptly she stopped. Like a light switch, one second she was laughing to the point of hysteria and the next she just…wasn’t.

In that instant, looking into those deep soulless eyes, he had never been so afraid in his life.

Tess made her way to Max’s shield and ran her fingers over it, caressing it as a person would a cat. “Do you really think that your pathetic little shield is going to stop me?” She whispered.

Max concentrated until the shield grew larger and was raised from floor to ceiling. “What the fuck were trying to do to me?”

Tess ran her fingers down the shield until she came to the place right in front of his groin. She moved her hand up and down the area as if she were caressing him intimately. “I’m not here to answer your questions. I’m just here to make sure that the cap I’ve put on your powers is still in place and to re-enforce it.”

Max shook his head in confusion, “Cap? What Cap? What the hell are you talking about?”

Tess bent her head to the side and smiled menacingly, “They told me you wouldn’t remember. I guess a part of me didn’t believe them. The mighty and powerful Zan, King of Antar, should have broken through my warp easily.” She shook her head in disgust, “But Max Evans, wanna-be human, can’t.”

Tess grabbed the shield in her hand and right before his eyes Max watched in astonishment as it dissolved into nothing. Before he knew it, Tess’ hand was caressing him outside of his boxer shorts with glee.

Max let out a roar of anger and brought up his hands to push her away. Before he could, Tess brought her free hand to his chin and once again held him with her gaze. “Stop.” She said softly but firmly.

Max’s hands fell at his sides, useless. He felt his eyes start to lose focus and he felt like he was floating……floating……into nothingness…..only a voice was his anchor…….

“You will remember none of this. You will keep only your base powers and the very weakest of anything else you have learned. You will not conceive a child with Liz. You will not follow the Path of Cursena. And under no circumstances will you complete your circle.”

Max felt himself nodding before he quickly felt nothing at all.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Max broke away from Liz with a gasp. Tess had come back to him again in that other life. She had come back and somehow she had stopped his powers from progressing. She had made him forget any of the advancements he had made.

Max sat up and realized somehow during the vision he and Liz had ended up on the floor. He reached for Liz as she shook her head dazedly and tried to get her bearings.

Max felt a strange kind of disappointment and he realized that it was directed at himself. Max had a feeling that if he had really wanted to he could have broken through those warps, but the ever present yearning to be human, to be normal, had overshadowed anything else. He had subconsciously let Tess manipulate him. He had let her block his powers because in reality he didn’t want them.

According to his future self, they hadn’t been powerful enough to fight back against Kivar and his army mainly because they didn’t have a complete four square. Because Tess had been run out of town by him.

Or so they had thought.

But Max had seen how powerful he had gotten. The day of his wedding he had been more powerful than even Nikolas had been. He could feel it.

The truth was, they could have survived without Tess. They could have survived if Max had accepted his alien side. The world hadn’t ended because of his relationship with Liz. The word had ended because Max couldn’t face what he was.

In her own sick and twisted way, Tess was right. He needed to face his destiny. But he wouldn’t let go of his human side. He would hold on to that with equal fervor. He had seen what being completely alien could do to you.

The Tess of the future had shown him that.

And the Tess of the present was on the same path. Now he had to figure out what to do about it.

Hey guys!

First off thank you all for sticking with me through this fic and the wait in between updates! And a VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU to those of you who took the time out to join me in my Authors Chat! I will be having another one soon and will let you guys know well in advance!

This is a sort of transitiony part but these things need to happen in order to set up the next scenes. I will be back soon with more. But for now.......

Part 12
*~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Meanwhile Downstairs

Tess felt her hands start to shake as her stomach started to twist. Something was happening. The energy in the air was almost suffocating.

“Hey Tess. You got a big box here.” Sheriff Valenti said as he laid it on the table in front of her.

Smiling shakily up at him, before glancing at the card, Tess saw Liz’s perfect handwriting and wanted to throw up at the thought of even trying to accept the gift.

Tsk, tsk Tess. Appearances. Must keep up appearances.

Clearing her throat, she picked up the box cutter that she had been using to open up some of the more elaborately wrapped gifts and cut through the purple and white ribbon at the top.

“Ooo, well I wonder what this could be.” She said overly cheerful as her fingers touched the wrapping paper.

Immediately, a flash of Liz wrapping the gift for her flits through her mind. Tess feels the suffocating pain and heartbreak but Liz’s acceptance that this is the way her life is now. Another flash, and somehow Tess knows it’s Liz at the present. She sees a shellshocked and weak Liz and Max sitting on the floor of Liz’s bedroom. Tess watches as Liz crawls her way over to Max and reaches out a hand for his face as she asks him if he’s allright. Instead of answering, Max brings Liz to him and hugs her fiercely before kissing her with a passion. His lips start to travel down Liz’s neck to her shoulder where he bites her softly.

Marking her.

Claiming her.

Fury consumed Tess until her hands were quivering as a result of the deathgrip she has on the box cutter and she lost the connection. She looks around and noone has noticed her momentary lapse of attention. Sheriff Valenti has gone to change the music and everyone has taken to talking amongst themselves. Knowing she only had seconds to stop what is going on upstairs, Tess looks around the room and sees Michael heading for the customer bathroom.

‘Think Tess, think.’ She says to herself as she looks around the room. Her eyes fall on Alex and an idea forms. Tess tilts her head slightly to the side and watches as Alex’s eyes glaze over. Alex nods almost imperceptibly and starts to make his way over to the door leading to the employee lounge.

Humming a little tune to herself, she starts to unwrap the gift in front of her while keeping an eye on Alex as he makes his way through all the guests. Tess knows she can’t go up there without seeming suspicious. There is no reason for her to be in Liz’s room. There is however a good reason for Liz’s childhood friend to be looking for her.

“Come on, come on. Hurry up.” Tess mumbled.

Finally, Alex reaches Maria and tells her something in her ear. Maria glances over her shoulder as Kyle makes his way around her to the refreshment table with ice. She lets the door swing shut behind her and points to Alex and then to the door. Tess rolls her eyes as she imagines what Maria must be saying to Alex. ‘Don’t let anyone up there Alex. They may interrupt Max and Liz’s monkey bang-bang and we can’t have that.”

Tess watches as Alex nods impatiently. With one final glance at the door, Maria makes her way through the crowd looking around the room searching, not realizing her view of the door in now obstructed.

With a smirk, Tess watches Alex mechanically push the door open and disappear from view.
*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~

Three minutes prior…..

“I’ll be right back.” Isobel said as she squeezed Alex’s hand. “I have to go to the ladies room.”

Alex looks down at the hand in his and smiles goofily at Isobel before bringing her hand to his lips, “I’ll be waiting with bated breath my fair lady.”

Isobel rolled her eyes but smiled at him anyway, “You’re such a goofball Alex.”

Alex faked a hurt look, “And here I thought that was part of my charm.”

Isobel’s smile faded slightly as her face grew serious. She raised her free hand to his face and stroked it with her thumb, “There is so much more to you than just your ability to make me laugh.”

Alex smiled faintly, “Perhaps my smoldering sex appeal?”

Isobel mouth lifted into a half smile, “Perhaps.”

She brushed her lips against his for the smallest of seconds and Alex couldn’t help the moment of euphoria. It never ceased to amaze him how wonderful she tasted. A heady mixture of chocolate covered cherries and something so breathtaking and unnamable but undoubtedly all Isobel.

He watched as Isobel made her way across the room and sighed in contentment. Life couldn’t get much better than it was right now. So happy was he in fact, he pursed his lips and started to whistle along with the music.

Alex…………..

Alex’s lips stopped in mid whistle and his eyebrows creased.

Alex………Cincepta alg-u-ien……..

Alex’s body tensed as he heard the ancient words spoken to him. Immediately, his mind answered in kind, 'Porim krawn oy sontestar.'

The essence of Alex spiraled into darkness and the young man that had been so content just moments ago was no more.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*

Maria glanced at her watch for the one billionth time that night and sighed in unwelcome frustration. She knew that Liz needed the time upstairs with Max. She knew that this time alone would be good for them and maybe they would be able to clear the air just a little. Or at least get rid of that Godawful sexual tension. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t get a little bit impatient. Hell, she wasn’t exactly known for her ability to wait around idly for anything

Maria threw her head back against the door behind her and rolled her eyes to the ceiling.

Liz better be getting herself some. I swear if Liz walks out of that room without letting Max touch any of the goodies I may just have to shoot him to put him out of his misery. Or maybe I can just hang him upside down until all the blood rushes from his-

“Maria!”

“What! I didn’t say it!” Maria blurted out to a stoic faced Alex before blushing. “I-um- I mean I was just-yeah, so what did you want?”

Without making comment on her flustered state, Alex leaned down and spoke into Maria’s ear to be heard over the music, “Michael’s looking for you. He said to meet him by the customer bathroom.”

“Why wouldn’t he just come over here then?” Maria asked.

Alex made an impatient noise that sounded foreign coming out of him, “I don’t know Maria. He just said to meet him okay? It sounded like it was pretty important.”

Maria hesitated before looking to the side to see Kyle making his way around them with ice. Kyle wasn’t back there anymore, so she didn’t have to worry about him sneaking upstairs when she wasn’t looking. Plus Alex could stay here until she came back. He was a freakin’ boy scout. If she asked him to stay put he would.

“Alex, I want you to listen carefully to me. I need you to promise me you won’t let anyone up those stairs. Seriously, not even Liz’s parents. Okay scratch that. Especially not Liz’s parents. I can’t tell you why, I mean I’m sure you don’t even want to know why. I’m not even sure I want to know why-.”

“Maria! I got it. No one goes up there. Okay. Go meet up with Michael.”

With one last reluctant glance at the door, Maria nodded and made her way through the crowd, already losing sight of the door and Alex’s form slipping through it.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Alex’s feet took him to the staircase and he starts to make his way up them. His feet start to drag and with each step he’s going slower and slower until he makes a stop in the middle, confused. He has no idea why it’s so important that he get to Liz, only that he has to. Besides it was rude of her not to be at the party downstairs, especially since it was so important to Isobel that every one try to be nice to Tess.

Yes, that was it. He was doing this for Isobel.

With renewed vigor, he jogged up the steps to the door of Liz’s room.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Max let out a shuddering breath as he slid his open mouth over Liz’s chin and down to her neck. His tongue flicked out over the soft skin and he can’t help but bite down softly. Liz gasped as she ran her fingers through Max’s hair. She held him to her as she feels Max’s hands on her outer thighs rubbing inward bringing the fabric of her dress over her hips and exposing her thong clad bottom. He squeezed the globes in between his hands and pushed her too him, against him. Moaning at the intimate contact, he uses his grip on her hips to get Liz to start gyrating against him as his mouth slides past her collarbone and licks the exposed outer edge of her breast. Liz’s hands are at the base of his head holding him to her as her head starts to loll back in pleasure.

Their heavy breathing is the only sound in the room until Max’s mouth moves the material of Liz’s dress to the side and takes her nipple in between his teeth and bites it softly before laving it lovingly causing Liz to moan loud. Too loud.

Neither notice Max’s eyes start to glow. Neither notice Liz’s fingers glowing down Max’s back as she grabs onto his shirt for better leverage to push herself against his throbbing hardness. Desperation fills the air as this suddenly isn’t enough.

The door slams open without warning and even then it takes Max and Liz a second to pull apart, breathless as they look into each others eyes.

“Liz- Oh my God. I’m-I’m so sorry. I – Um – I um – Came to –um wow. Yeah, I’ll be going back downstairs now.”

The slam of the door echoes through the room and Alex’s hurried footsteps fade as they make their way down the stairs and back into the Crashdown.

OMG! Is this an update?! See? I surprise myself. LOL.

Part 13

Maria made her way to the bathroom door and looked around.

No Michael.

Behind her, the men’s bathroom door opened and out stepped the man in question, wiping his wet hands on a paper towel.

“Oh, there you are Michael.” Maria said smiling up at him, “What’s up?”

Michael gave her a confused look, “Um, same thing that was up the last time we talked. You know 30 minutes ago.”

Maria rolled her eyes at his sarcasm, “Michael, did you call me over here just to annoy me? ‘Cause really, I had other things to do.”

“What?”

Maria sighed with impatience, “You know, I thought we were passed playing games in our relationship.”

He gave her an exasperated look, “What? What are you talking about, you psycho woman!?”

“Psycho?” Maria put both hands on her hips, “I am NOT psycho! You’re the one who called me over here and then proceeded to act as if you don’t know what I’m talking about. You’re the psycho. You overgrown, anal-.”

“Wow guys. You want to keep it down to a low roar? I almost couldn’t hear you over the blasting music.”

Michael and Maria turned towards an amused Isabel, coming out of the ladies bathroom.

Maria turned back to Michael ignoring Isabel’s comment, “Ok Michael. Let’s try this again. I am going to act like I just got here and I’m going to ask you ‘What’s up?’ and you’re going to answer me like a human being and not with one of your sarcastic comments.”

Michael raised his eyes to the ceiling and lifted his hands towards it as if asking for patience from some divine being and turned back to Maria once more, “Ok Maria. Lets make this short and sweet. I. Have. You following me here? No. Idea. Still following? What you’re talking about!”

Maria let out a low scream and punched Michael in the arm, “You called me over here you moron! Alex told me that you told him to go tell me to meet you here!”

“Huh?” Michael scratched his head as he tried to get through the word jumble, “Why don’t you ever speak ENGLISH WOMAN!”

“I AM SPEAKING ENGLISH!”

Isabel finally stepped in between the both of them and gently took Maria’s arm, “Ooooookay. Now before you cause a scene, which I’m fully aware the both of you are so fond of doing, why don’t you both take a deep breath. Maria step over here and tell me what the hell is going on.”

With one last scathing look at a dumbfounded Michael, Maria turned to Isabel, “Okay.
Alex told me that Michael told him-.”

“And there she goes again,” Michael said with a slap to his forehead, “I don’t get it. I don’t get it! Why is it so hard to get a thought out of her that doesn’t involve some type of alcoholic beverage to understand?”

Maria flung herself at him and pushed him once, “Fuck you Michael! I swear one day you’re going to realize what a pompous……..”

Isabel snuck away and tiptoed out of sight before she could hear anything else. She wasn’t going to be involved in their weird foreplay anymore. Those two deserved each other. She started to make her way back to Alex when she realized he wasn’t where she had left him. With a confused look, she made her way over to the table Tess was at.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz was by the door in her room hastily pulling her dress back to rights and glanced out of the corner of her eye at Max. Max had a bewildered expression on his face and she knew he was desperately trying not to go into hysterical fits of laughter. This whole situation was nuts. It was only a matter of time before the both of them were shipped off to the looney bin.

“Max? Umm…what are we gonna do?”

Max whipped his head to look at Liz and let out a soft sigh, “Like I said before, we act like nothing happened. We go downstairs and everything stays the same. We just need to get everyone else in on what’s happened.”

Liz blushed, “Everything?”

Max lifted an eyebrow, “Well, not everything.”

Liz placed her hand on one of Max’s forearms. She couldn’t seem to stop herself from touching him. A lot had happened in such a short time and while technically she had never lived the life of the other Liz, she still felt some of the emotions that had been in those visions keenly.

And most of all she felt how fast her body responded to Max’s presence.

“We should keep some distance between each other. ‘Cause honestly, I don’t know how long I can act like nothing is going on between us before I scream.”

Max grinned and her heart thudded painfully when she realized how much she had missed that smile. He had done so little smiling in the past months and it was largely her fault.

Max reached for her waist and held her too him before running his hands through the back of her hair, “Neither do I.”

He placed a small kiss to her chin before bringing his open mouth to her lips sliding his tongue against the warmth of hers. The kiss deepened and with it the intensity of the moments they had shared so intimately before. Before either one of them knew what was happening Liz was grinding her hips against his as Max pressed her up against the wall behind her. The warmth of his body was intoxicating and it would take so little to ease the ache the burned in her lower extremities. A small push inside her body and she would be his forever…..

What?!

Liz finally pushed Max away slightly as her breath came in labored pants, “Max we have to stop. We have to go downstairs, get the others and tell them what’s going on.”

Max nodded as he tried to control his breathing, “Right. You’re right.” He slowly disentangled himself from Liz’s embrace and stepped back. He pulled his shirt down slightly before stepping towards her bedroom door.

Liz quickly fixed herself up for the one hundreth time that night and followed him out into her living room. At the door Max turned to Liz with something akin to fear in his eyes.

“Max?”

“Liz, I just want you to know that, I love you. I’m going to have to go back downstairs and act like I don’t. But I do, more than anything.”

Liz’s eyes started to burn as she felt a little bit of despair. But this was the only way. She knew that. “I know Max. Do what you have to, to get the answers we need.”

Max opened the door leading to the hallway but stopped again. He didn’t turn around as he gripped the doorframe in his fingers, “Liz? Can you tell me something?”

With a bewildered look at Max’s back, Liz reached for his white knuckled grip, and held his fingers, “What’s wrong Max?”

Without turning towards her he replied, “Tell me you love me. I just need to hear it once.”

Liz leaned into his back and stood on tiptoes before bringing her chin to his shoulder. She leaned into his ear and whispered, “I love you Max. I’m not going anywhere.”

Liz watched Max’s eyes close as she kissed his cheek. Without another word they both left the apartment to the uncertain future that lay waiting downstairs.
*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~~*

Tess rolled her eyes to the ceiling as she mentally pictured the look on Liz’s face when her best friend caught her with her hand in the proverbial cookie jar. She couldn’t keep the smirk off her face since she was well aware that whatever spell had come over the two of them to have a heavy make-out session, was now broken.

She watched as Michael gave one last frustrated look at Maria before she stomped over towards Tess’s general direction cutting him off mid sentence and had to bite her lip from laughing at the dramatics that one simple misunderstanding could cause.

Isabel stood on the other side of the table and gave her a small smile and a wave before her eyes started searching the room lighting up when they rested upon Alex’s lanky frame making his way across the room to her.

Tess had one last gift to open. It was from Max. She had left that particular gift for last hoping to be able to stall enough to have Max near her when she opened it. She wanted to be sure to make a big deal out of whatever it was in the box and act like it was the best gift she had ever gotten.

And she’d make sure prim little Parker was there to see it.

She dawdled on the gift that she currently had in front of her, ooohing and ahhing over the ugly as sin sweater that some girl she barely knew had gotten her.

“Oh, Angie this is beautiful thank you.”

Angie moved closer to her and smiled, “When I saw it I thought of you. It matches your eyes.”

“That’s sweet. Thank you.” Tess replied as she looked towards the door leading upstairs just in time to see Max coming through it. He was so handsome he took her breath away every time she saw him. His muscular arms seemed to strain through the fabric of his shirt and her stomach twisted in longing.

“Max!” She called out. “Max, over here. I was about to open your gift.”

Tess didn’t miss the grimace that came over his face before he covered it up with a wan smile.

Bastard.

Tess grabbed at Max’s hand the minute he was within reaching distance. She threaded her fingers into his and squeezed it tight. “I left the best for last.”

Max scratched the back of his head, “Oh um…good. Open it.”

Tess grinned up at him once more making sure to lace a little bit of vulnerability into her smile and pretended not to see the mistrust lurking in Max’s gaze.

She took the light blue wrapping paper into her hands and tore into the box in front of her, ready with the words of compliment.

“Oh Max!” Tess began, “It’s-.”

“The same damn sweater you just got from Angie!” Maria said with a snort.

After a quick glare towards Maria’s direction, Tess smiled up at Max with adoration, “Well, you must have gotten it cause you realized it matched my eyes.”

“It does?” Came a dubious Michaels reply from his current position on the other side of the table next to Isabel who promptly slapped him with the back of her hand on his chest.

Max shrugged and seemed to clench his jaw right before he bent down to kiss Tess on the cheek, “Happy Birthday.”

Tess looked towards the door leading to the breakroom. Liz was now standing there staring at them, a strange expression on her face. Tess threw her arms around Max’s shoulders and gave him a squeeze. She ran her fingers through the bottom of Max’s hair and closed her eyes. He smelled so good and felt so right in her arms. How could he not feel the same about her? It didn’t make sense. How could one person want someone so much and not get the same in return?

The thought made her anger come back and she could feel her fingers start to warm as she gripped the back of Max’s neck in one hand. She felt Max’s arms encircle her waist in a tight hug and smiled in Liz’s direction.

*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Part 14

Liz tried to keep her expression carefully blank as she watched Tess fawn over Max’s gift. Max looked very uncomfortable and he wasn’t playing his part too well. She’d have to speak to him about that later. This was never going to work unless he acted the part of an enamored alien. Even slightly enamored would work at this point.

She watched as Max leaned down and kissed Tess on the cheek and even though she knew that it was all a farce, she couldn’t help the roiling of her stomach at the sight. The feeling intensified when Tess ran her hands through the bottom of Max’s hair and squeezed him to her full chest.

Get off. Get off. Get off. Get off…………

The mantra played over and over through her head as she watched. The heat of her disgust and anger played a flush over her cheeks that she could feel burning through her skin.

She was biting her lip to keep from practically growling a warning at Tess, when a flicker of black seemed to surround the blonde. Liz blinked her eyes rapidly as she tried to comprehend what she was seeing. The black started to glow and suddenly Max’s hands were going around Tess’ waist and holding her thin frame to him tenderly.

Max would never voluntarily get so touchy feely knowing Liz was standing right there watching, even if he had to keep up a façade. Was this what she thought it was? Was this some kind of energy that Tess emitted when she started to warp?

And if it was, why could she see it?

Liz searched the expressions of the other aliens and only saw Isabel’s mild discomfort and Michaels disgusted look that seemed to be directed at Maria not Tess.

What was going on?

Tess smiled at Liz. Triumph evident in her gaze and it took all of Liz’s willpower not to go over there and rip her head off. She felt her heart start to pound and her eyes start to swim as the light got brighter, stronger. The burning was becoming intense and she almost cried out in pain. She finally glanced away and caught Maria’s concerned expression.

Maria, probably thinking Liz’s discomfort was because of the embracing pair, stood in the middle of the room and clapped her hands together. “Allright everyone! What are we all standing around for? This is a party! Let’s get back on that dance floor and do all the nasty things you really shouldn’t be doing, but will anyway!”

She watched as everyone gave her a strange look. “What? What part didn’t you understand? Vamanos!”

The crowd slowly dispersed and Liz felt more than saw the light fading. When she finally garnered the strength to look back, Max was pushing Tess away slightly. He took a step back and just stared at her before mumbling something and taking off for the kitchen with a determined Tess right behind him, the door swinging behind them. Neither one of them gave her a second glance.

Liz stumbled her way to a nearby chair and sat down heavily. What time was it? It had to be at least after 1:00 AM. A glance at her watch told her it was only 11:00 PM. She dropped her head into her palms and tried to get her strength up but it wasn’t going well.

“Wow. You would think that you’d be a little happier after getting some. But then again you’d also think that Max wouldn’t be all hugged up on that skank after getting some either. So I guess this is just weird all around.”

Liz raised her head and saw Maria flop into the chair in front of her, crossing her legs. Maria raised an eyebrow at her and crossed her arms in front of her chest, one hand raised as she chewed on the end of a Twizzler. “So, what limb would you like me to rip off first?”

Maria waited half a second for an answer before barreling on, “Of course you have a choice as to whose limb it’d be exactly. My only condition is that it be a limb they’d miss. And of course in Max’s case you’d have to make sure you will never, ever need to use said limb again.” Maria finished with a wicked grin.

Liz rolled her eyes to the ceiling and managed a small smile, “No limbs Maria.”

Maria shrugged and chewed thoughtfully, “So, you gonna tell me what happened, or are you going to sit there and act like everything is the same as it was this morning?”

After rubbing her eyes with the palms of her hands tiredly, Liz crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair mimicking Maria’s position, “Are you going to be able to like, not freak out on me?”

Maria rolled her eyes in frustration, “That was only that one time Liz. I think I’ve come pretty far dontcha think? I’m dating one of them for Gods Sake. Or at least I was...”

“What? What happened?”

Maria waved her hand in the air dismissively, “Never mind. One alien problem at a time.”

Liz heaved a sigh and bit the corner of her lip, “Well, I have to tell you and everyone else anyway. I was just hoping to kinda get everyone in one place so that I wouldn’t have to repeat myself a million times.” With another sigh, Liz looked around the room and leaned in close to Maria, “Max and I shared visions of our other timeline.” She whispered.

“You WHAT?!”

“MARIA!”

“Sorry, sorry. I just-I mean-wow. How? I mean, here I thought you were getting your groove on and instead you were getting those weird alien visions.”

At Liz’s blush, Maria’s mouth dropped open, “Oh my God. Did you….”

“NO!” Liz said a little too loudly, “I mean, no. We didn’t. Well, we almost did and well the details aren’t important-.”

Maria sucked her teeth, “Of course they are! How the hell did you get these visions and why?”

Liz ran a hand through her hair, “Well, we think when Future Max came he implanted them into me. I still don’t know exactly why he did but the point is, we saw things from that timeline. Private things. Personal things.” Liz felt her eyes start to fill slightly, “Maria, I saw my wedding day. And you were there and Alex and –.”

“Toto?”

“What?”

“Never mind. You were getting too emotional. I was trying to cheer you up.”

Liz sighed, “It was so weird Maria. But so wonderful. I was so….happy. And so naïve. We both were.”

Maria’s brow crinkled in confusion, “What are you talking about?”

Liz’s lips tightened in anger, “Tess. When she left in the other timeline, she didn’t leave permanently. She came back. On our wedding day. Somehow she made it so that Max couldn’t progress with his powers. He wouldn’t get any stronger. She blocked them somehow. And then she made Max forget that she came.”

Maria’s eyes widened, “What else did she do?”

“She threatened to kill me. I still don’t know why she didn’t attempt to but she didn’t.” Liz’s hand started to shake as Tess’s actions became clearer, “She came back again. Later on when Max and I were living in Boston.”

Maria’s eyes widened, “Boston? Lizzie, you made it to Harvard?”

Liz smiled sadly, “I think so. It wasn’t clear. I just know I was going to school in Boston.”

Maria took her hand and squeezed it slightly before letting go. “Go on.”

Liz cleared her throat, “Anyway, she made sure the cap on his powers was still in place and strengthened it. And she said some weird things. Some thing about the Path of Cursena and about Max not conceiving a child with me. And something about a circle.” Liz rubbed her temples wearily; “She played with Max like a helpless animal. She was so strong. We have no idea how many times she came back.”

Maria’s fists were clenching, “That little bitch.” She took another bite out of the Twizzler in her hand and shook the remainder at Liz, “She threatened me earlier, that little skank.”

Liz’s eyes widened, “What? Why?”

“I saw her trying to follow you and Max upstairs after that little Lambada display you two had going on. I stopped her from chasing you two and I told her to leave you guys alone.”

Liz’s eyes narrowed, “Why do I think you said more than that Maria?”

Maria pursed her lips, “I was protecting you and making sure that for once in your life you were happy. However it may have come out, is irrelevant. She threatened me! She told me she could squash me like a bug with one thought and then told me that I crossed the line with her.” Her eyes glinted wickedly, “Kyle happened to come up to us at that point and I made him think Tess wanted to open her gifts.”

Liz bit her lower lip in worry, “Maria, promise you wont confront her like that again. Please. We’ll tell Max and the others about what she said and then deal with her as a unit. In those visions she was extremely strong. And if she’s threatening you that way now, then it’s an indication that she may be very close to that strength already.”

Maria huffed, “I’m not scared of the ho-bag.”

“Maria….” Liz said in warning.

Maria shook her head in annoyance before lifting a hand when she realized something, “Wait, if Tess made Future Max forget all those things, why were you able to see them?”

Liz shrugged, “Maybe when Future Max put those memories in me, the warp broke and we were able to see what happened when he couldn’t.”

“Why would he put the memories in you at all? I mean you were only able to access them when you and Max got busy right?”

Liz blushed, “Well, maybe he was trying to comfort me somehow. Maybe he just wanted to give me something to hold onto. I think I would’ve probably been able to access the memories sooner or later. ”

...........premonitions were getting stronger as time went on………. still erratic and unclear............

Liz’s eyes widened as something from the last vision stood out, “Maria, I was gaining powers. I was able to see things. Like future things. But for whatever reason they weren’t progressing.”

“You were getting powers?! Holy shit. Does that mean you’re becoming one of them?”

Liz shrugged, “I have no idea.” She took a deep breath and her eyes drifted to the door leading to the backroom. Max was in there. With Tess. Liz didn’t think he was in any immediate danger and Tess had no idea what happened, so he would be safe. At least physically. Mentally she could harm him by warping him again. Controlling his emotions.

Liz sat indecisively, wondering if it would be a good idea to interrupt Max when he may be trying to get some information out of Tess. Out of nowhere a pain began low in her belly. She looked closer at the door and under the bottom doorframe a light was glowing.

“Maria? Maria, can you see that?” She whispered.

Maria gave her a quizzical look, “See what?”

“That light coming from underneath the doorway. Can you see it?”

Maria gave the door a once over, “You mean besides the light from the fixture?”

“Maria, come on. Something’s happening to Max.”

Maria stood abruptly, “What? How do you know?”

Liz shook her head, already heading for the door, “I’ll explain later. Just please come.”

“I swear,” Maria whispered furiously as she dutifully followed, “One day we are going to have a normal day go by that doesn’t include anything Czechoslovakian related and maybe we’ll eat ice cream and get fat like good little teenagers.”

Liz placed a finger on her lips and tiptoed to the door. She placed her ear to the door making sure to put as little pressure on the door as possible.

No sound was forthcoming.

“Shit. I can’t hear anything.” Liz said.

Maria rolled her eyes, “Liz, this music is not low.” She tossed her hair over one shoulder, “Follow my lead.”

Maria pushed through the door and started laughing hysterically out of nowhere, “Oh my God. Can you believe what Karen is wearing tonight? I mean it’s almost as bad as that sweater Tess-Tess hi!”

Liz followed Maria in, bogusly laughing but abruptly cut off when she saw Tess with her hands sliding out from underneath Max’s shirt. Max was staring blindly at a corner of the kitchen and a light that was surrounding them both began to fade.

Maria, oblivious to the light, made her way to Max’s side, “Max, I’m so glad we ran into you. We need a big strong man to move one of the tables outside.” She started to pull Max’s arm towards the door but he wasn’t budging. “Max?”

Tess made her way to Max’s other side, “Maria, can’t you see Max and I were having a conversation? Why are you so rude?”

Maria placed a hand on her chest in mock horror, “Moi? And here I was trying to get a table moved out of the way for your party and I’m getting lip. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

Meanwhile, Liz was watching as Tess tried to inconspicuously slide her hand into Max’s. The argument going on faded into the background as a warm glow surrounded the entwined hands. The light was getting brighter and brighter until it began to reflect a myriad of colors. Greens, blues yellows and the most prominent of all red. A red so warm, so comforting, it seemed to encase Liz where she stood and wrap her in a blanket of ease and before she knew it, she was falling…falling into an ocean of red….

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The heat……..

It was surrounding her in a warm blanket and she sighed in momentary contentment. The sun pleasantly warmed her bare shoulders as she glided through the street, her skirts swishing silently around her bare ankles. She inhaled the soft breeze as she carefully concentrated on the lights encircling her until they began to fade into a low throb.

Humming a low tune to herself, she stopped in front of a display of flowers. She ran her fingers delicately over the tops of the blooms and leaned down to inhale their scent, her long hair shifted by her waist and fell around her face creating a privacy curtain of sorts.

“Selenta…….”

A whisper……..

She stiffened slightly before closing her eyes in both yearning and frustration.

Beautiful. He had called her beautiful as he had so many times before.

She picked up the bloom closest to her and watched as it seemed to lean in her direction.

But she knew…….

She knew it wasn’t responding to just her. It was responding to the presence of another.

He was close. She had sensed him long ago………

If blooms could purr, this one would be in full-fledged ecstasy.

Closer………

Her heart started to pound as heat filled her cheeks but she continued to caress the top of the bloom as if unaware.

“You fool noone……”

‘You are wrong. I fool myself daily.’ She thought, her back still turned away from him. Away from his presence. Away from the heat of his eyes……

But if there ever was a magnet that would control her, it was he.

Carefully, she turned around, flower still in hand, and raised her eyes to his. Only the warm river of red from the sun rivaled the white light surrounding him.

His smile……

“Zan……”

Hellloooo Everyone!
:o OMG is this an update only a week later?!? LOL. What can i say, i got inspired by the very thought that Jason Behr may once again have a show on TV that i can watch every week. :D

Timelord31-Thank you!
cocopucks-Ahh the ever faithful cocopucks. You have been here from the very beginning. BIG HUG.
Arianneleigh-I think we ALL want them to continue their upsairs activities. However, there is a maniac on the loose people! Plan First. Sex Later.
Mica- Thankies!
roswell3053-I agree. Liz's special talent will come in handy....eventually...when she finally figures out what the hell is going on.
BehrObsession-I can't promise that all will be fixed soon. but i can promise that it will be fixed eventually. LOL-IS that a cop out or what?
roswellian love-Thank you for the comment!
Evans3- YAAAAAAAAAAY! Im glad you didnt have to re-read Wendy! Aren't you proud of me? Less than a week later and i'm back with a new part! :D (Let's see how long it takes for the next part. )
mlover25-
lazza-LOL! Im sorry. But the head scratching will have to happen for a bit longer. :?
Ellie-ROFLMAO! Those thoughts were definitly NOT Tess's. That's just plain nasty Ellie. Tsk, tsk. Veerrrry Interesting Questions My dear Ellie. Verrry interesting. However, if i told you all of that now, i wouldn't have any baragining chips for the next time you come accross some yummy Jason artifacts. Like that nummy leather trenchcoat he wore in that photoshoot we're all so fond of. Hmmm? I know you have it Ellie! GIVE UP THE GOODS!
ShatteredDreamer-Hi! Some of your questions will be answered here. Some. Not all. Because I'm wicked. 8)
Michelle in Yonkers-
I've semi-sworn not to read any more fics that aren't already finished—why, oh WHY do I not listen to myself!
OMG! I say that all the damned time and believe me it NEVER works. I ALWAYS get sucked into another fic. Never fails. Thank you so much for all that feedback Michelle. It was wonderful hearing from you and reading all of your thoughts and speculations. As far as the fact that Tess was having the vision of Liz wrapping the gift being a stronger power, i was under the impression that this had actually been mentioned in the show early in season one by Max as a power that they all had already. If i'm not mistaken, he had said something to the effect of sometimes being able to sense a person's presence on objects that they had touched before. A sporadic at best power, but a power nonetheless. I could be wrong. But I could swear that it had happened. The lord only know what episode it was though. But it makes me want to research some of the transcripts on the Crashdown.com website. :P
kelly13-Thank you for commenting!
belleoftheball-THANKIES!
clarkkent179-Awwwww, My Jeffy. My staunchest supporter. *BIG HUGS* Thank you for all of your support and positive feedback. I'm so flattered babes. I only hope i can continue to meet your expectations.

Part 15

Max pushed through the door of the employee lounge roughly. He took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. He had felt it. He had felt Tess trying to mindwarp him and then he had felt himself giving in. He knew what was happening but he was helpless to stop it. And it both scared the shit out of him and made him so furious his teeth ached with the need to open his mouth and scream his head off.

Clam down. Calm down. She doesn’t know you know. Use it. Use the knowledge against her.

How exactly he was to do that still remained a mystery.

Once he had been able to move his limbs of his own accord, he had told Tess that he needed some air and was going out the back door of the Crashdown. He knew full well that Tess would follow him. But he had no clue where to start getting information from her short of coming out and asking her if she had turned traitor yet.

Max turned around and faced a determined Tess when he heard the door swing open once again. Her arms were crossed over her chest and her expression bespoke impatience.

“I’ve had enough Max.”

“Excuse me?”

Tess’s lips tightened and she moved closer to him, “I’m tired of these games. I’m tired of your wishy washy feelings for me.”

Max ran a hand through his hair, “Tess, look-.”

“NO!” She shouted, “No. You look. This ends today.”

Max scrunched up his eyebrows in confusion, “Tess. I have no clue what you’re talking about.”

With a deep breath and a curl to her lip, Tess said through clenched teeth, “I saw you Max.”

“Saw me what?”

Another step closer to him, “I saw you and Liz getting hot and heavy in her room. I wonder how she would feel if she knew you had not too long ago been making out with me after prom. You know, the one you began with her but ended with me.”

The surprise at Tess’s revelation couldn’t overshadow the disgust that rolled over his face at the memory of that kiss. The kiss that at the time had made his stomach clench in sorrow but in sick satisfaction that he had done something similar to what he thought had been Liz’s betrayal.

Tess saw the look of disgust and her eyes seem to darken as fury made her arms fall at her sides. “When. Will. You. Get. It! When?! You DO NOT belong with them! You are not human! YOU ARE AN ALIEN, FOR FUCKS SAKES! YOU ARE A FUCKING KING!”

As Tess’s voice got louder, the energy in the room intensified until it seemed to burn a line down the middle of Max’s back. Her eyes darkened even further and her hands trembled. The hairs on his arms stood at attention. Something was going to happen. Something very, very bad. He wondered if Tess was even aware of the energy she was emitting.

“Tess, calm down.” Max raised a hand in a gesture of peace, but they both knew he was getting ready to defend himself if he had to. “Tell me what you think you saw.”

Tess laughed out loud, “I don’t think I saw anything. I know I saw you two together. When I touched her present I got a vision Max. Poor Liz’s turmoil is so strong she leaves behind emotional fingerprints on everything she touches. Too bad it got cut off before I could view the culmination of your sweet moment.” She spat out.

Thinking fast, Max ran a hand through his hair once again, and bowed his head momentarily. He had a feeling Tess barely got to see any of what had actually happened up there. “Yeah well, apparently you missed the best part. Liz doesn’t know what the hell she wants.”

Her eye’s narrowed, “What?”

“She evidently likes to play games with me and my emotions.” Max lifted hurt eyes in her direction, “She kissed me and then rejected me. Again.”

Tess’s chin lifted as she regarded him with suspicious eyes, “Oh really?”

Nodding his head jerkily, he continued, “She told me that she couldn’t help but still have feelings for me but that we didn’t belong together. She told me that I needed to accept that and move on.”

The energy in the room intensified instead of dissipating. Why wasn’t she calming down?

A look into Tess’s eyes sent shivers down his spine as her face was momentarily replaced by an older and crazier Tess Harding of the future. A Tess he had hoped to never encounter in this timeline. “Well, then Max, it looks as though I’ll have to help you move along now won’t I.”

Max froze. “What are you talking about? What are you implying?”

Tess’s hand shot up and a pain started at the base of his skull. Max grabbed his head in agony and tried to force out a scream but could only let out soft gasps of pain. Time seemed to slow as his vision cut in and out.

Tess was standing in front of him.

Her mouth was moving quickly. Too quickly for him to garner the words.

Her hand was moving beneath his shirt, caressing the area above his heart.

He felt Tess try to enter images into his head. Visions of something that she was trying to force into him.
A flash of Tess with her head thrown back in ecstasy as a dark head kissed down the center of her chest slithered through his mind and his heart seemed to clench momentarily in denial before speeding up once again. The thumping surrounded his senses. All he could hear was the rapid beating of his fear. All he could taste was the blood in his body moving at an accelerated rate.

And when voices permeated the bubble he seemed to be surrounded in, when the smell of Liz’s perfume wafted past his nose, all he could see was red……………
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“I bet I can get you to say yes.”

The sweet smell of grass encircled his nostrils. He barely noticed the green blades bend towards him in devotion as he ran after the giggling woman in front of him through the maze. He reached for the flowing edge of one silk strand of her dress as it blew behind her only to have his fingers slip right through it as she disappeared right before his eyes.

“And what makes you think I would be that easy to sway?” The now disembodied voice said seductively.

He smiled at the air and reached out with his mind for her presence. His smile turned into a smirk as he carefully skulked along a wall of grass.

“Because you can never say no to me.”

“Well there is a first time for everything, is there not?”

He reached the end of the wall and quicker than the eye could see he grabbed the surprised woman in his arms, her back resting against his front.

He let out a puff of air at the intimate feel of his body fitting into every contour of hers. “Do not let this be a first time.” He whispered in the shell of her ear.

He felt the air turn quickly from playful to burning heat as her body involuntarily pressed harder against his. She placed her hands behind her, leaning against the tops of his thighs trying to keep her balance.

“Why do you do this to me?” She said desperately, “Why do you make me see you as anything but the boy I used to throw rocks into the lake with?”

The smell of her hair was intoxicating. He nuzzled into the soft, dark strands before moving it to the side and rested his cheek against the smooth skin of her neck.

“I do nothing you do not already want me to do.”

With a sigh, she leaned further into his embrace. “What did I tell you about going into my dreams at night?” She admonished.

With a chuckle he tightened his hold on her, “I have not walked through your dreams in a long time. But thank you for confirming my suspicions that you have erotic dreams of me.”

She opened her mouth to sputter in embarrassment, only to gasp when his hand slid the soft material of her dress up her bare legs until his hand could caress the silky skin of her inner thigh.

“Zan, we shouldn’t……”

His voice rumbled in her ear, “But you want me too.” He slid the edge of her undergarment to the side with his pointer finger before bringing his middle finger slowly up her slit once. He groaned when he came back with the essence of her excitement, “Oh, do you want me too.” I

She moaned in response and her legs opened wider. “We are going to be in so much trouble if they find us.”

Zan plunged his middle finger into her and reveled in her cry, “Right now, I do not care.” He rubbed his growing desire against her backside as his finger moved in and out of her at a steady pace. “Do you?”

Her arm lifted and hooked itself around his neck and her hips involuntarily moved in time with his finger. Air was coming out of her mouth in short gasps, “Do I what?”

Zan chuckled, “Do you care if we get caught, Selenta?” He slid his other hand down her flat tummy until it reached the apex of her thighs. He rubbed at the small button at the top of her heat that he knew would make her shatter in his arms.

“Ugh…...” She moaned as her backside pressed harder against him, “No. No I do not care,” She finally gasped, “Please….just……”

Zan pressed harder against the top of her heat, pushed his finger in deeper and watched as her body shuddered. She bit her lip to keep the scream that he knew was bubbling in her throat from spilling out. He closed his eyes momentarily at the thrill that shot through him from the response he knew only he could evoke from her. The heat that only he could ignite. The love that only he could give her. Only he.

He never wanted to leave………

He only wanted her……

Only her……

Beautiful…

Selenta…

“I love you, Danae.”

Part 16

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“Liz?”

The warmth was leaving her body. It wasn’t fair. She wanted it back. She wanted to go back….

“Liz!”

The sound of an impatient Maria finally filtered into her conscious mind and she jumped slightly. Oh God, how long had she been daydreaming?

“Yeah?”

Liz looked around and noticed everything exactly the same as it had been before she went….where did she go? Was that another vision? And why did she call that presence she felt Zan? Did she somehow tap into Tess’s memories?

“…….to move the damned table!”

“What?” At Maria’s incredulous look, Liz shook her head dazedly, “I’m sorry Maria, I was……..I lost my train of thought.” She didn’t miss the wary stare of Tess, nor did the fact that Tess no longer had her hand in Max’s go unnoticed.

Maria sighed once in exasperation, “All I was saying is let’s go move the table. Max is ready.”

Still a little dazed, Liz finally looked up at Max. His expression seemed just as lost as hers. Had he shared the vision with her? She couldn’t have been in la-la land for longer than a minute. With Tess and Maria arguing they probably wouldn’t have noticed anything strange going on.

“Um, right. I’m ready. Let’s go.” Max stated as he stepped towards the door urging Liz with his eyes to follow.

Tess glared at him, “Max we were talking. The table can wait. It’s not important.”

Maria pushed both Max and Liz towards the door before winking at a furious Tess, “Look at her. So modest. Doesn’t even want people fawning over her on her birthday. Isn’t she the most unselfish person you’ve ever met?”

“Max, wait. Please.” Tess stayed where she was as tears began to fill her eyes.

Both Liz and Max turned to look at her when they heard the quiver in her voice. “Tess?”

Tess’s hands wrung in front of her nervously, “You and I we’re ok right? I mean I don’t want to argue with you anymore. I’m sorry I said those…things.”

Max had the strangest expression on his face. If Liz didn’t know him so well she wouldn’t know how to interpret it. Emotions played across his face that made her heart race in fear. Panic, relief, and then a cunning that would make Michael stand up and applaud him. They were gone in seconds and in their place was a blank mask that sent warning signals straight to Liz’s heart.

“Yeah, Tess. We’re good. Thank you. For listening to me when I needed you. I appreciate it. Truly.”

Tess broke out into a smile and something seemed to streak across her eyes. “Good. I’m glad. I’m always here to listen Max. Always.”

Liz refrained from sticking her finger down her throat and instead turned away from both Tess and Max and followed Maria out the door.

Behind her, she heard Tess tell Max that she would be with Mr. Valenti changing the music whenever he was ready to finish their talk.

“What the hell just happened?” Maria whispered furiously as she pulled on Liz’s arm and walked briskly through the crowd.

“I don-.”

Before Liz could finish her thought, Max grabbed at both girls arms. “Don’t look back at me.” He warned. “Let’s just pick a table, move the damned thing and get the fuck out of here. NOW.”

The harshness of his words made Liz’s poor heart race to it’s breaking point, “Max, wha-.”

“No Liz. Later.”

Nodding her head, Liz followed Maria to a table near the door. She and Maria took one side of the table and lifted it while Max took the other. They quickly moved it to the other side and on Max’s nod, slid out the open door.

Maria stepped outside and immediately turned on Max, “What the HELL is going on?”

“Please Maria. Not here. Michael is on his way out here with Isabel. We’ll talk then.”

“How do you know that?”

With a half smirk he replied, “He was watching you from the minute you stepped out of the break room. I just gave him the eye.”

“The eye?” Maria shook her head in amusement as she crossed her arms in front of her. “So, you really think he was watching me?”

Liz smiled as she rolled her eyes at the tone of Maria’s voice. Before Max could answer, first Isabel and then Michael made their way out of the Crashdown.

Michael looked around the streets warily as he walked up to them, keeping Isabel in front of him, “What’s wrong Maxwell?”

“Not here. We need to go someplace. Someplace close so that we can get back here quickly so that she won’t miss us.”

Isabel shook her head in confusion, “She? She who? What are you talking about Max?”

Liz grabbed Max’s hand and squeezed as she answered Isabel’s question, “Tess. She’s mindwarping Max. It’s a long story.”

Max looked down at Liz and his eyes crinkled in a strange form of confusion, “Oh Liz, you have no idea.”

Liz’s eyes met his and for an instant a red haze seemed to surround him and then was gone, “I think I do.”

“Do you two have any idea what retarded kind of Morse code they’re speaking?” Michael asked Isabel and Maria.

Maria shook her head, “Not a damn clue. Come on. Let’s go to the park. We can get there and back in five minutes.”

Without moving his eyes from Liz’s, Max caressed the skin of one bare shoulder, “Would you believe you can jump lifetimes in half that time?”

Hello everyone! *Waves* This part is a bit long since I’m trying to make up for not having posted an update in such a long time. But as I was editing it, I realized something that would be out of canon so i need to clarify something before we move forward. The aliens knew they were from another planet. But at this point in my fic (After the ep Heart of Mine) in the show, the aliens still had no clue as to what their planet name is! :x Even though, Max went to a summit with OTHER ALIENS, they met their dupes who were raised by a protector FROM ANTAR, they met Nasedo who is also from Antar and they had listened to a transmission from their mother from their planet with not one mention of what the planet name actually was…. *Slaps Forehead* It amazed me as I researched the transcripts from Crashdown.com, that the first time the planet name was even mentioned was after Alex had already died and they found the book translation.

So, the reason for this longwinded complaint is to say, boo on the writers of Roswell, for not including this beforehand and that for my fic we are going to assume that they learned the name of their planet when Tess showed up and was oh so helpful in bringing the Destiny book to them. And if not at that point in time, we are going to assume that one of the Roswell Aliens were smart enough to ask the first question that would have come out of my mouth when I encountered a being from my home planet, “Yo, what the hell is the name of the planet that I used to rule once upon a time?” And we are going to assume that Nasedo or Tess or Nicholas or Congresswoman Whitaker or Larek or any of the other aliens at the Summit mentioned the planets name at one point or another. It doesn’t really matter who. As long as it was somebody! If someone knows if at any point in time before the ep “Heart Of Mine” that the planet name was mentioned in the show, please tell me. ‘Cause it would alleviate a lot of the headaches that this has caused me. K, thanks.

*Rant over*

And although I wish I could thank each and every one of you individually, time is of the essence right now, and i just wasted a huge chunk of it ranting but I do wish to thank all of you who commented and bumped up my fic and any lurkers out there who have stuck by the long periods in between updates every now and then. You guys are the best. :D

Part 17

“So you’re trying to tell us that you and Liz saw the future? How is that even possible?”

Isabel looked at Max and Liz in disbelief as her eyes strode down to their linked hands. They hadn’t let go of one another since they had started the short walk to the park nor had their hands relinquished their grip as they sat on the backless park bench.

Liz hadn’t known where to begin when they had first gotten there, as two impatient aliens were staring her down. She had looked at Max helplessly and watched as he pulled a Maria and blurted out the first thing that had come to mind. “Liz and I witnessed another timeline. Specifically, our future timeline. Well, a timeline that’s now non-existent.”

After a bout of silence, Isabel had responded with a roll of her eyes and the skeptical response.

Liz looked up at the disbelieving Isabel and gave her a tired look before answering her questions the best way she knew how, “Future Max.”

Michael rolled his eyes and slapped his forehead, “Future Max. But of course. How could we have been so stupid?!” Then with a glare, he crossed his arms over his chest, “Now, what the hell does Future Max mean?”

Maria hit Michael on the back of the head once before pushing him slightly to the side so that she could sit on the other side of Liz, “Please excuse Mister sensitivity over there.”

“Maria!” Michael bellowed as he rubbed the back of his head, “How else am I supposed to react?”

“Maybe with a bit of understanding you big dork. Or at least keep your nasty comments to yourself until you’ve heard the whole story.”

Michael rolled his eyes and shrugged. With a sardonically refined air, he swept his hand outward with a flourish and bowed, “Well then, please proceed with your explanation Ms. Parker.”

Without reacting to Michael’s sarcasm, Liz heaved another sigh and glanced at Max briefly. She smiled slightly when he squeezed her hand, but she could see the anger that still lurked in the depths of his eyes. Max loved her. She knew that. But the pang of pain that followed any new discussion of Future Max would be there for a while yet. He knew why she had done it. Respected her for doing it. But would always wonder why she didn’t trust in him enough to go to him with the truth. Liz wasn’t so sure she knew why either. What had been so clear earlier this evening was getting foggy even to her senses.

With a swallow, Liz raised her eyes to the two aliens in front of her and began her story, “A few months ago I had a visitor. From the future. That visitor was Max…….”

As Liz shared her story, she watched as both Isabel and Michael’s faces paled at everything that had transpired behind their backs. She saw Isabel’s face tighten as she explained how she had faked sleeping with Kyle to get Max to fall out of love with her. And then saw Isabel’s eyes shine with remorse as Liz told them how she said goodbye to the only man who had ever captured her heart. She told them everything that Maria knew up until the point they had bombarded the break room. The argument, the accidental connection, Tess, their wedding day and the events surrounding it, even the threat Tess made towards Maria. She left out only the heavy details of precisely howthey had come upon the memories, hoping to avoid embarrassing questions.

“…..we believe when he touched me, he, um, he somehow like, downloaded the memories into me. I think he knew I would be able to access them someday. Maybe not as soon as this, but someday. ”

Michael looked away for a second and huffed out a breath in disbelief, “So how exactly didyou finally access the memories?”

Isabel let out a sound of disgust as both Liz and Max blushed, “Oh please don’t give us the gory details. I don’t think my stomach can handle them.”

Max finally spoke as he ran a free hand through his hair, “Relax Isabel. We all know how, erm, strong emotions bring out things we normally wouldn’t have been able to remember otherwise. That’s how we got the first orb.”

Isabel snorted, “Yeah, we’re all perfectly aware and still EWW.”

Liz tried to hide a small, tired smile and looked down. That’s when she noticed Michael’s fists were clenching repeatedly. The veins in his arms popped up every time he clenched and he looked ready to take a right hook at someone.

“Michael?” Liz said softly, “Are you alright?”

With a twist to his mouth, Michael let out an angry sigh, “No. No, I’m not alright.”

Liz bit her bottom lip and prepared for the onslaught. She knew Michael wouldn’t be able to react positively to the news about Future Max. Hell, almost noone could. But if there was ever anyone she imagined blowing a gasket, it was Michael. “Listen Michael, I know you must be furious with me, but-.”

“No. It’s not you. Even though I’m not thrilled with what you did, you did what you thought you had to. You were willing to sacrifice everything……” Michael trailed off. Not used to being open about any positive emotion, he couldn’t bring himself to say much more on the subject. “Anyway, it’s Tess I’m angry with. That little blonde bitch has been manipulating Max all this time. And today is the last day she’s going to get that chance. We just have to figure out how we’re going to deal with this, short of killing her. Although,” He said, with a hard twist of his lips, “I’ll happily volunteer if that’s the route you guys want to go.”

Isabel blanched at the idea, “But how do we even know that she’s that far into whatever treachery she may have done in the other future?” She ran a hand over her forehead slightly panicky, “Liz said herself that it wasn’t ‘til afterTess left and came back to Roswell that she began that block on Max’s mind on the night of your….your…wedding…. My God Max. In two years you would’ve been married.” Isabel’s mouth dropped open slightly as the implications of everything that Liz had just revealed hit her full force.

Max gave his sister a half smile, “I know.” His smile disappeared as he remembered what had made him run so quickly from the party moments before, “But in answer to your question Isabel, there’s more you need to know.”

“More?” Isabel said with a whisper, “I don’t know if I can handle anymore.”

Liz turned to Max with a small look of confusion, “More, Max? Did you....I mean, in the break room with Tess, did you see…..?”

Max’s eyes met Liz’s and for a second her deep brown depths seemed to brighten, but one blink and it was gone, “Um, did you see…?”

Liz’s breathing quickened, “I’m not even sure if what I saw could even be slightly…….”

Max’s eyes burned into Liz’s as his own breath picked up slightly, “I’m not sure either.”

Isabel, Michael’s and Maria’s eyes had been following the strange lines of conversation until they finally yelled in unison, “WHAT?!”

Michael threw his hands up in the air, “They’re doing it again. Speaking in tongues.”

Ignoring all of them, Max shifted until he could swing his leg over the other side of the bench and faced Liz completely. “Liz, what did you see? Should we speak about this when we’re alone?”

Liz gave Max a confused look, “Alone? No. Why would we have to be alone? I think everyone should know.”

Max’s face turned red as he cleared his throat, “Because I’m pretty sure if you saw what I saw, you wouldn’t want everyone to hear, um, everything.”

Her confused look deepened, “Yeah, um, I don’t think we saw the same thing.”

“Neither do I.” Max said quickly.

“HELLO! Do you guys think you can share a little bit of whatever the hell you’re talking about?” Maria said with a smirk, “Leave out the steamy details but let us know what’s got the King with his undies in a twist.”

Max scratched behind his ear as he turned back to face everyone, “Uh, Liz, why don’t you go first.”

“Yeah, maybe I better.”

Isabel let out a frustrated sigh, “Someone better tell me what the hell you two are talking about or I’m going to have to start doling out new embarrassing haircuts. Starting with that thing Maria had sophomore year.”

“HEY!” Maria said with an indignant look, “I’ll have you know that was what was in at the time.”

“Riight. Liz?”

“Yeah, so when I…ok so…I think I can see when Tess is using her powers.” Liz began hesitantly.

The silence surrounding that statement was deafening until Maria cleared her throat. “Was that what you meant when you told me earlier that you thought in the future you might have been gaining powers? Do you think you’re starting to get them now?”

Liz shook her head, “No. This is different. When we came back downstairs and Tess was opening her gift from Max, she hugged him and I saw something. There was like a black cloud surrounding her and then it got bright. Really bright. And when Max hugged her back the glow intensified. It intensified to the point that I had to close my eyes against it. The funny part was, when the glow dimmed I felt that it dimmed. I didn’t need to look at it to know.”

“So, wait,” Michael interrupted, “You think this black light is an indication that Tess is using her powers?”

Liz’s brow furrowed, “I-I think so. I think if she tried to mindwarp someone now I would be able to see it. I think that black glow is her energy.”

“But you only saw it that one time, it could have been anything.” Michael said.

“You see this is where it gets complicated.” Liz cleared her throat once, “I had this strange feeling. My stomach cramped, I guess you could say, and then I looked under the doorframe and there was that glowing light again. When Maria and I rushed into the room, Tess was taking her hand out from under Max’s shirt and he looked dazed. Almost as if his mind wasn’t in the room with us. The light faded until I noticed Tess tried to hold his hand. When I looked down at the hands, the light started again,” She raised her gaze to Max’s, and for some unfathomable reason, her heart started to pound in excitement, “And that’s when things got really weird.”

That’swhen it got weird for you?” Maria asked doubtfully.

Ignoring her, Liz continued, her eyes glued to Max’s, an almost metallic taste formed in her mouth as all her blood seem to rush to her head and cause her body to tingle, “There was suddenly all these colors, and then……..I wasn’t in Roswell anymore. I don’t even think I was on this planet.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Michael said, “Slow down there Parker. What are you getting at? What the hell did you see?”

With a deep breath she continued, as she swallowed hard. Her bearings were being distorted and it was taking all of her concentration not to be sucked back into the strange vision she had witnessed, “Ok, well maybe I’m getting a little ahead of myself. I was, or whoever it was in the vision, was walking somewhere and it was warm. Really warm. I could, I mean, she could, feel the sun on her shoulders and her skirt swishing at her feet and the smell in the air…..it was warm, peaceful……it was home…..” Liz’s voice started to take on a dreamy sound. Her eyes became slightly out of focus. Her hand lifted until she caressed the bottom lip of Max’s soft mouth, “The lights…the lights were bright but I could block them out…I could make them dim. But one light I could feel no matter where I went. It followed me everywhere. It waseverywhere.” She watched as a familiar glow started around his shoulders. The warm red was lifting off his body and seemed to reach up and sweep over her. Her hand reached for the back of his head and sifted through the bottom strands lovingly. Her head seemed to lean towards his of it’s own accord as his eyes roved hungrily over her face. She watched, as his breath seemed to quicken. “No matter how much I tried, I could never dim that light out of my heart. I didn’t want to love you. God, I tried everything to forget you……If they knew……”

I fool myself daily….

Selenta……….

Liz whispered, “Zan…….”

Max’s eyes widened and he broke away from Liz gasping as he stood up. “I could see it!” Max breathed out, “I could see it. It was you Liz. It wasn’t anyone else but you.” Liz seemed to be snapped back into reality at the loss of Max’s presence. She shook her head in confusion as her eyes darted around her vicinity.

Isabel and Michael stood in shock, as they looked back in forth between Max and Liz, their mouths agape, neither one sure what had just transpired.

Maria stood shakily, “What. The. Fuck just happened?”

Liz stood up and stepped back from the group, “I-I’m not sure.”

Max slid a hand in his hair and stood there stunned, as his eyes roamed over Liz’s ridged frame, “Liz, what does Selenta mean?”

Her eyes strayed to the three aliens standing opposite her, “Beautiful.” She said quietly, “It means beautiful.”

“In what language?” Isabel whispered, although she already knew the answer. They all did.

Liz swallowed hard as the images from her vision swept through her mind, getting clearer by the minute, “Antarian.”

“Maxwell,” Michael started quietly, “Please tell me why Liz, a human, knows even one word of Antarian.”

Before Max could answer, Isabel spoke up, “Liz, who are ‘they’?”

Liz’s eyes snapped to Isabel’s, “Huh?”

“Before, when you were talking about what you saw, you said ‘If they knew’. Who are ‘they’?”

“I’m not sure.”

“Are you guys trying to tell me that Liz was on Antar?” Maria screeched, “That’s impossible.

Max cleared his throat, “I think now would be a good time to tell you guys what I saw.”

Michael took a deep breath and ran his both hands through his hair, “Oh Man. This is getting out of fucking control.”

“I agree.” Isabel said. Her hands shook slightly as she crossed her arms over her chest in defiance, “Why are you all of a sudden seeing this past? It doesn’t make sense. First you’re seeing into the future and now you’re seeing our past on Antar? A past that you’re saying you were apart of? You are not an alien Liz. You were born and raised here on Earth. You’re human.” Her voice was rising as she spoke and took on a tremulous undertone. The desperation in her tone was apparent as she tried frantically to convince herself what she was hearing was wrong. “You can’t be one of us, it doesn’t make any sense.” She repeated.

“What are you implying Isabel?” Maria said testily, “That this is some psychotic attempt from Liz to get attention? It’s bad enough being apart of the ‘I know an Alien Club’, believe me when I say that Liz is not looking to become one of the founding fucking members.”

Isabel’s mouth dropped open before she arched a brow haughtily and gave Maria a frosty stare, “I’m not implying anything, Maria. All I’m saying is that it’s a little bit too convenient for my tastes. That’s all.”

“Convenient?!” Maria screeched, “Are you insane?! Does this look like anything ‘convenient’ to you?”

“Allright, enough!” Max demanded. “Let’s just get all that facts out in the open and then we can speculate about who is and who isn’t an alien.” Max strode over to Liz and took one of her hands in his own. He linked her fingers with his and felt himself calm slightly as he took in her countenance briefly before facing everyone else. “Tess tried to mindwarp me in the breakroom. Before today, I haven’t been able to sense when she was doing it since she first got to Roswell. I don’t know what changed, but now, I can feel when she’s trying to get into my head.” Max closed his eyes as what had transpired assaulted him, “When I went to kiss her on the cheek I felt her trying to use her powers on me. I knew she was doing it but I couldn’t do anything to stop it. Then when I went into the breakroom, she went crazy. She told me that she saw Liz and I…upstairs…kissing.”

Liz’s eyes widened, “What?! How?!”

“When she touched your present, she got a vision of what was going on with you right then at that moment. She said something about you leaving behind emotional fingerprints.”

Liz’s eyes closed briefly as she temporarily relived the loneliness that she had felt as she had wrapped Tess’ gift earlier. It had burned her to be giving the blonde alien anything. While she knew she had willingly walked away from Max, she never could shake the feeling that none of this would have happened if Tess had stayed in whatever hovel she had been in before showing up in Roswell.

“But the vision got cut off before she could see everything,” Max continued, “So I thought I would use that against her so that I could get her to calm down. She was so angry and I could feel this energy coming off of her. It was similar to that energy she emitted when we were tied up by the skins and she destroyed them. Anyway, I lied to her and I told her that Liz had kissed me but that…” Max hesitated and gave Liz a slightly apologetic look, “Liz had told me that she would always have feelings for me but that we could never be together and I needed to get over it. I don’t think she bought it.”

“Why?” Michael asked, “Why wouldn’t she buy it? You two have been playing the denial game for what seems like an eternity now.”

Ignoring Michael, Max continued, “Instead of her energy disappearing it got worse. And before I knew what hit me, she raised her hand and I felt this pain in my skull. Excruciating pain.”

“Nicholas.” Isabel whispered fearfully.

Max nodded slowly, “Yes. Like what Nicholas could do.” He sighed, “But remember, apparently in the future, I could do something like that as well.”

Liz’s eyes widened in remembrance, “Oh my God, Max. You’re right. The powers you had….you sifted through Tess’ mind the night of our wedding.”

“Whoa. Wait a minute. Hold on.” Michael said quickly, “Are you trying to say that we may all possess this power?”

Max shrugged tiredly, “I don’t know Michael. That’s something we’ll have to research when we have more time.” With a sigh Max continued, “Anyway, when I was in that room I could feel her trying to put these memories of her and I in my head. False sexual memories. Like when she first got here.” Max cleared his throat as he grimaced in discomfort, “I think at this point Liz and Maria had walked in. ‘Cause then, instead of seeing whatever it was Tess was trying to put in my head, I saw Liz and myself running through a grass maze.”

Maria snorted, “Oh that’s wonderful. Not only do we have confusing memories but we have a maze on top of it.”

Once again, ignoring the catty comments, Max continued, “We were running through this maze almost like we were playing a game. And then…it wasn’t a game anymore. It turned into something else entirely.” Max’s head slowly slid and out of the corner of his eyes he glanced over at Liz. She gave him a confused look as she tried to figure out what he was trying to say without actually saying it.

“Max….” She said quietly, “I’m not sure I…..” Her eyes met his full-on as he turned his head and looked into her gaze directly. He squeezed her hand and willed her to see what he had seen; hoping to establish that connection that was always there waiting to be drawn on. Hoping to be able to link her to the memory as she had with him earlier.

Liz’s eyes widened as her heart started to race, Max’s vision almost seemed to be tickling at her mind. It brushed against it, teasing her. She reached with her mind and grasped at the connection and it was almost as if a hum of energy broke over her body. As Max waited, she could see the vision play out before her eyes.

And with a blush, she realized why Max was being so vague to the others. Max smiled sheepishly at her, before dropping his eyes shyly and continuing.

“I got the feeling Liz and I…we couldn’t be together. Or that we weren’t allowed to be together. I know we had grown up together because Liz asked me why I kept making her see me as anything other than the boy she had thrown rocks into the lake with. We were in love. Even then. Especially then. But it was….”

“Forbidden.” Liz whispered.

Max nodded as he suddenly felt despair hit him in the stomach. The visions were getting clearer, and the associated feelings with the visions were starting to filter into the here and now.

“Wait,” Isabel said, holding a hand out in front of her, “How do you know that the female in your vision was Liz. What was her name? Did she even look like Liz?”

Max’s forehead scrunched as he tried to think through the haze, “She had long brown hair. Longer than what Liz has now. To her waist. But I think that’s where the differences stop. Her face was almost exactly the same. And even if it weren’t, I’d know those eyes anywhere.”

Michael groaned out loud, “Jesus Maxwell. Do you always have to wax poetic?”

“Shut up, Michael.” Maria admonished. “Take a lesson or two or ten.”

Unbeknownst to the others, Liz was searching her own mind trying to get a handle on the images Max has essentially sent her through their connection. The smell of the grass wafted past her nose as the warmth of Max/Zan’s body pressed up behind her. She could feel as her breath sped up and liquid heat took over any rational thought. She could feel a phantom breath on her ear, whispering words of devotion over and over again.

“…..Danae…”

Liz’s hand gripped his tightly as she whispered, “Danae. My name was Danae.”

And as she voiced the name aloud, she marveled at the fact that it had been a long time since anything had felt as right as it did at that moment.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Tess smiled slightly at Kyle. He has been rambling on about something for at least fifteen minutes now. It had taken all of her restraint not to tell him to shut up. Why exactly she was so keen on restraint with Kyle was still a concept she wasn’t willing to pursue.

“……so I think the whole lot of them are lunatics. I mean really Tess, you’re the only one I can talk to. So when I tell you something right now, I just want you to listen okay? Tess?”

Tess managed to shake herself out of her thoughts and tried to remember what it is that Kyle had been saying. Her eyes were still darting around the room trying to find her curiously absent fellow aliens, “I’m sorry Kyle. I’m listening. What is it that you want to tell me?”

Kyle took a deep breath before letting it out slowly.

Tess raised her eyebrows at his display of nervousness, “Kyle, whatever it is you have to tell me, I’m sure it’s not that bad. I mean its not like you’re going to tell me you’re pregnant or something.”

Kyle smiled wearily at Tess before running a hand over the back of his neck, “You have to understand that you’re the only one I truly trust with this. I mean….as much as I know everyone in our group cares about one another…the only one that I can really call a friend….is you.”

Tess mouth slid into a frown as a pang of something unfamiliar hit her in the stomach. She hadn’t let herself feel compassion in so long………..

“We decided that anything between us would just be friendship because we felt more like brother and sister….but I think…no, I know…..that you’d understand….I’ve been wanting something for a while now. And I don’t think I’m ever going to get it Tess.”

Oh God. No. She thought she had taken care of this……………

“Kyle,” She said softly, as she willed her head not to listen to her heart, “Whatever it is I’m sure…we can fix it.”

Kyle sent her a pained look, “Can we?” He closed his eyes, “I just want to stop feeling this way.” Kyle heaved a frustrated sigh as he avoided her eyes, “I want to be in love. I want someone to love me.”

Tess closed her eyes as despair for what may have been filled her senses and she fought back with everything in her, “Shit. Kyle…..I-.”

“I want Liz to feel about me the way she used to…before….before she died and came back as someone who forgot…..forgot about me.”

Tess let out a noise that sounded part relief and part aggravation, “Why don’t you tell her how you feel Kyle? I mean didn’t you guys sleep together? I’m sure she feels something for you.”

Kyle made a disgusted face, “Evans is in the way. He’s always in the way.”

Tess’s eyes lit with malice, “Well, I’m sure we can work something out to both of our satisfaction.”

Part 18

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~
“Danae….” Max repeated and his tongue seemed to tingle as the name passed over it. “Wow. It seems….right.”

“No, it’s not right!” Isabel exclaimed. “None of it is right. This is all so very, very wrong.”

Max watched as his sister’s eyes frantically moved back and forth, an edge of defiance in her chin and he felt like sighing in frustration.

Right now wasn’t the time for this. They needed to see how much more they could find out about the past so they could make sure their future didn’t repeat itself. Max understood where Isabel’s repudiation was coming from, but more than anything he wanted to find out as much as he could about the visions he and Liz had just shared. Liz was apart of their past. Now more than ever he knew it. He felt it down in his bones and saying her name, her true name, seemed to bring a whole other side of himself to life. What he felt for her wasn’t just the crush Michael and Isabel always dismissed it as and here, finally, was proof.

Michael took a deep breath and sat down at the vacated bench next to a still sitting Maria, “We all know who was in the pods. There’s no way she could have been sent the same way we were. Liz was not one of us.”

Maria let out huff, “Yeah, well it wasn’t so long ago that you guys thought you three were the only ones in those pods. So I think it’s safe to say that you may be wrong now as well.”

Michael turned a look of disbelief toward Maria, “What are you trying to say Maria? You think Liz is an alien now? You were just protesting the possibility.”

Maria shut her eyes and rubbed her head, “Sometimes I guess I have to remind myself that nothing is impossible when it comes to you guys.” She winced, “I think its time for us to stop trying to ignore the facts and accept that if there’s one thing that Liz is not, it’s a liar.”

Isabel was wringing her hands in nervousness and snorted at Maria’s last comment, “No, perfect, prim Miss Parker is not a liar. At least when she’s not trying to save the damned world.”

“Isabel-.” Liz started.

Maria narrowed her eyes before cutting Liz off, “Or when she’s trying to save your prissy alien ass. I don’t think I need to remind you how many times we’ve both had to lie and deceive, against our better judgment I might add, in order to keep your damned secret, so if I were you I’d keep your ice princess comments to yourself.”

“Maria-.” Liz tried again.

Isabel’s mouth opened wide before her own eyes narrowed, “Or what?” She said dangerously.

Before Maria could answer, Liz stepped forward, “God, enough! I thought it would be obvious that now is not the time to be arguing back and forth.” Liz turned her eyes towards Isabel, “Isabel, I know this is hard for you to take. Believe me when I say that this is not my idea of fun. But we need to stick together if we’re going to figure out a way to deal with Tess.”

Isabel mouth was still strained and she looked like she had a sarcastic retort to throw in Liz’s face before her body seemed to deflate, “I’m……sorry Liz.” She said with some difficulty, “I just….it just seems like every time our lives seem to be getting back to normal, something always interferes and we’re back to square one. Hiding, being scared, wondering if we’re going to see tomorrow…I…don’t want to live that way anymore.” Her voice shook at the last sentence and she turned her eyes down to the floor.

Max, who had been quietly watching everything, stepped forward and took his sister’s hand in his, “None of us do Isabel. But….these visions of Antar, need to be addressed. We need to figure out what Tess’s plans are and these memories could possibly help us. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Liz and I saw our past lives when Tess was trying to manipulate my memories. It’s almost as if it’s some sort of failsafe.”

Michael’s face screwed up in confusion, “Failsafe? What do you mean?”

The word had come out of his mouth almost of it’s own accord. But he knew that it was the correct term to use. Max rubbed his jaw, “I’m not…sure exactly. Honestly, I think if Liz hadn’t have been there Tess would have successfully planted the visions in my head. When Liz walked into the room, I think initially she was pulled into Tess’s mindwarp and then something in our minds changed it into true memories of our past.”

Michael ran his hand through his shaggy mane, “So, you’re saying that this failsafe only works if you and Liz are together or in the same vicinity?”

Max nodded, “Yes.”

Maria shook her head, “God, this is getting complicated.”

Michael nodded, “I agree.”

Liz glanced down at her watch, “Guys, it’s getting late. We’ve been out here for a little too long. We need to come up with some sort of plan. We can’t leave Max alone with Tess. He said himself that even though he knows when she’s mindwarping him, he’s still powerless to stop it.”

“Oh hell,” Isabel exclaimed as she looked down at her own watch, “Alex must be wondering where the hell we all are by now.”

“And Tess.” Maria muttered.

Max took a deep breath and stepped back to Liz’s side, “Ok. Hopefully all Tess wanted to do was implant false memories in my head.” Max’s mouth curved in derision at his last sentence. He never thought he’d think mindwarping as a lesser evil to whatever else Tess had up her sleeve. “As of right now, she’s not sure whether or not she succeeded. I think I need to act as if it did and give her a temporary false sense of security.”

Michael stood up, “And then what? We sit and wait until she tries to fry your brain again?”

Liz shook her head, “Tess has waited all this time to make a major move. We need to be careful but I don’t think she’s going to make another one for at least a little while. Remember, in the other past it wasn’t for at least another two years that she started putting the blocks in Max’s mind. Something changed in this timeline since Max and I didn’t, erm, cement our relationship. Whoever was guiding her movements in that other timeline stepped up to the plate quicker. We need to figure out what happened and why she suddenly upped the ante.”

Liz suddenly stopped and stared into space for a moment. She lifted her head as if taking mental inventory of everything that had lead up to this point, “Wait. What if we never met your dupes in the other timeline? What if you never went to The Summit, Max?”

Max’s eyebrows furrowed in thought, “Well, don’t think I would have missed an opportunity to get information about our enemies. I mean we knew so little at the time.”

Liz shook her head and smiled sadly, “No, Max. You would have let the opportunity go. Remember, we had already…..cemented our relationship. You didn’t want to know anything about your alien heritage. It wasn’t important to you anymore. Being normal….was.”

Max felt the same burn of anger come over him as he realized just how much had changed just because he and Liz hadn’t been on speaking terms. Without Liz as a focal point in his life, it was almost as if he didn’t care where he ended up or what happened to him. He remembered the way he felt when he had gone to New York. Anything to get away from Roswell, Liz and the pain was preferable to staying and watching his world fall apart.

However, in the other timeline, Max remembered his determination to embrace his life on Earth and to forget anything else from his past life. With a shake of his head, Max realized that Liz was right. If the opportunity had come up to go to the Harvest or even to New York for The Summit he would have said no. It would have been a connection to his life on Antar and that wasn’t his life anymore.

Isabel suddenly drew in a breath. “Do you think the Dupes have anything to do with this?” Isabel shook her head, “No they couldn’t of, Max said…..” As her thoughts caught up to her mouth, her voice trailed away.

Max closed his eyes briefly, “I said that when I walked into their house, sewer, whatever it was, Tess was just sitting there and there was…stuff floating around us. Tess had said that she had fought back and that she didn’t know what had happened. I assumed…I assumed that she had destroyed them. I took her on her word. I never pressed her for more answers.” Max’s fists clenched, “Dammit, I just trusted her.”

Maria scooted closer to Michael, “So, Tess is working with the dupes?”

Liz was rubbing a comforting hand up and down Max’s arm, “I think it’s safe to say she just might be and that Nicholas may also be a part of it. We thought he was dead too and he showed up again at The Summit.”

Max rubbed a tired hand over his eyes, “We all have to very, very careful. Something is happening and I’m afraid that they’re going to make a move faster than we think. I just wish I knew what the hell they were after. It’s not just having us back on Antar. Or even killing us. It’s more than that.”

Liz’s hand stilled on his arm, “Max, remember in the vision Tess was telling you all these weird things about the Path of Cursena and not completing your circle? Just because all this is happening sooner than it would have, doesn’t mean that the agenda has changed.”

Max nodded and looked thoughtful, “Yeah, I agree but even in the other timeline I don’t think I was consciously aware of what that all meant. I mean, I’m saying it all outloud now and I’m not even getting a twinge of it being familiar. Not like when I said your name before.”

…Danae…..

There was that tingle again. His tongue thickened and seemed to fill his whole mouth. He desperately wanted to say it outloud, wanted to whisper it in her ear and watch her shiver.

Liz gave him a soft smile as if she knew where his thoughts had gone, “But Max, this time we know we can possibly access the memories of our past lives. While we may not know what those strange terms mean now or in that other timeline, I can bet we knew it way back then. If we can somehow retrieve those memories again, we could figure out what it all means.”

Michael let out a huff as he seemed to look at Max and Liz in a new light, “Oh man. Do you two have any idea what information you may be holding in your subconscious? We could figure out what really happened. We could finally know what we used to be capable of.” Michael ran a hand threw his hair, “Jesus, we could figure out a way to get home. On our terms.”

Isabel paled slightly at Michael’s words, “This is home, Michael.” She said, slight anger laced in her tone, “I…I don’t want to go back there if we don’t have to. We…we were killed. Assassinated. Why would we want to go back there? We’ve made our home here with Maria, Alex, my parents….Why would you want to go back to what we don’t know anymore?”

Michael glanced sheepishly at a suddenly tense Maria, “Maria, I-.”

Maria raised a hand quickly, “No! No, Michael. Don’t even say anything. I’ve always known where your priorities were.” She said acidly as she stood up and moved to walk out of the park, “It was silly of me to think that I may have been one of them.”

Liz gave Michael a withering look before running to catch up to her friend, “Maria! Maria, wait!”

“God Michael, you really are a social retard.” Max said tiredly.

Michael’s eyes followed Maria’s distraught form, but he made no move to go after her, “Shove it, Maxwell.”

Isabel glanced at Max as he ran a hand over his face once more, “Max, we’re not even sure how you accessed those memories from Antar before. The possibility of Tess trying to mindwarp you while Liz is in the room again, is slim to none. So how do you think you’re going to do it without this failsafe?”

Max tried to hold back a grin as he thought of all the other ways that he had accessed memories from timelines. If it worked then, there was a good chance it would work now. Granted, all the memories he had accessed in the heat of the moment had been from his time on Earth, but really, trying wouldn’t exactly be a hardship. In fact just the thought of touching Liz intimately and licking his way into her mouth made his blood boil in anticipation. He had a feeling that Tess’s attempt to implant false memories into him had awakened a part of themselves. Something felt different. He couldn’t put his finger on what just yet, but he planned on finding out.

“Max?” Isabel said impatiently.

Michael sighed and finally stood up, “You know Isabel, for someone who doesn’t want to know anything about her brothers sex life, you sure do ask a lot of stupid questions.”

Isabel turned a confused look in Michael’s direction before comprehension took over, and it turned into comical disgust, “Oh.” She said simply.

Max cleared his throat and started to make his way towards the two best friends talking animatedly on the edge of the park entrance, “Come on. We have to get back to the party. Let me and Liz handle the erm, memories from Antar. The party should be over pretty soon anyway. I’ll just have to avoid Tess in the meantime.” Max stopped walking before turning back to the two alien’s behind him, “No one is to be with Tess alone. No one. God only knows what she’s been implanting in our heads all this time.”

Max’s last line caused Isabel to still, “Max,” She said quietly, “Do you really think she’s been mindwarping all of us?”

Seeing the looks of true fear on Isabel’s and Michaels face caused Max’s heart to fall slightly, “I’m not sure of anything Isabel. But we have to entertain the possibility and its something we have to look out for.”

Isabel’s eyes narrowed into something else entirely and Max watched as her teeth clenched dangerously, “She is going to pay for all of this.”

Max nodded his head once, “We have to find out what happened on Antar. Right now we’re one step ahead of her. She doesn’t know that I can sense when she’s mindwarping me and she doesn’t know that Liz can see her ability manifesting. Once we find out what all that other stuff means, we’ll be more than ahead of the game. Until then, we can’t take the chance of her getting one of us alone.”

Isabel and Michael both nodded and with Max ahead of them and the two of them flanking his back, they made there way to the tense silence that greeted them when they reached Liz and Maria.

Kyle glanced down at the petite blonde at his side, “What the hell are you talking about woman?”

Tess gave Kyle a small sweet smile, “Come on Kyle. You and I both know how I feel about Max. And the relationship between Max and Liz is so bad for the both of them. I mean she slept with you for God’s sake!” Tess didn’t miss the guilty look that passed over Kyle’s face, and while it puzzled her, she continued, “And yet he still can’t completely get over her. That’s not healthy for either one of them. They need to move on.”

Kyle nodded his head in thought, “I agree. But I can’t force Liz to have feelings for me again. Besides being pathetic, it’s just plain wrong as well as impossible.”

Kyle missed the narrowing of Tess’s eyes at his comments, before she schooled her expression back to the earnest mask she so often wore, “Nothing’s impossible Kyle. I want Max. You want Liz. You help me. I help you. It’s as easy as that. Don’t forget that Liz once had strong feelings for you.” With a wink, Tess smiled, “She’s obviously attracted to you physically.”

Throwing his head against the wall behind him firmly, Kyle closed his eyes briefly, “Tess, there’s probably something you should know-.”

“Hey guys, have you seen Isabel?”

Tess gritted her teeth in frustration, as she turned to see Alex standing in front of them. She met Alex’s gaze with her own directly, “No Alex,” She said softly, “I haven’t seen her in about half an hour.”

Alex scratched his forehead before looking around the room, “Yeah, neither have I. As a matter of fact I haven’t seen Liz, Maria, or anybody besides you two for a while.”

Tess held her breathe for a moment before slightly rolling her neck. This little shit was ruining this for her. However, their missing ‘friends’ were giving her cause for concern as well.

Her hands twitched as she let her energy build slightly. Finding out what Kyle was about to reveal to her took temporary precedence over the missing teens. “Alex?” She said softly, waiting for his blue eyes to meet hers.

Alex turned his head toward’s Tess, “Yeah?”

Cincepta Alg-

Suddenly, the lights in The Crashdown turned off and the music abruptly stopped.

“What the-.”

A small light started to appear in one corner of the room and make its way towards the middle. It took Tess a second to realize what was happening as the strains of “Happy Birthday” floated to her ears.

Tess watched as Max’s face came into focus and was softly illuminated by the candles on the huge cake he was holding out in front of him. His lips moved with the words and he smiled at Tess. She gazed back at him in shock that melted into happiness as she made her way over to him. The planes of his face seemed to deepen and the bangs swept casually across his forehead framed eyes that glowed the color of honey in the darkness. She still felt her power tingling on her fingertips and she realized she had been in the middle of commanding Alex before being interrupted. Her lips lifted up into a soft, sad smile of their own accord. The candle light wavered slightly and Max’s face glowed for an instant, illuminating everyone around him and effectively illuminating the thorn in her side. There, by his side, was Liz Parker.

Tess felt her anger and her energy rise to un-nameable heights. Her hands started to tremble and black seemed to cloud the edge of her vision. The black rose as its own separate entity and seemed to swallow the scene before her. She raised her eyes to the moving black and thought she felt her arms raise towards it in welcome and then she was floating….floating in a dark alien abyss…………..

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Princess Ava! Princess Ava! Please, Il-Aine, I must carry this message to you.”

Her feet stopped mid stride as she turned a haughty curved eyebrow in the small man’s direction. “This better not bore me, Sinil.”

The man stopped in front of her breathing heavily. She gazed down at him arrogantly as he dropped to one knee, “My apologies, Il-Aine. But this message was to be hand delivered to you post haste.”

She rolled her eyes and lifted a hand palm up to receive the message, “Well?” She said impatiently, “Where is it?”

The servant raised apologetic eyes to the princess, “I am sorry Il-Aine. But there was no written message, only a place that you must go to immediately.”

She scoffed loudly, “And what makes you think that I would go anywhere without knowing exactly why? I am a Princess! I am much too important and have too many important things to do to be gallivanting around here aimlessly.” Her eyes narrowed, “And while I fear no one, how do I know that this isn’t some type of trap, Sinil? These are dangerous times. Anyone could want to hold me for ransom. ”

The man trembled slightly at her feet, “I am sorry Princess Ava, but I was told only to tell you that you must go to Mandalas Maze,” The servant hesitated for only a moment, “And that Idris-Zan would be there.”

Immediately she felt her heart start to pound. Had Zan sent this message? Did he arrange to meet with her in the secluded maze? Granted, he had barely spoken three words to her since her arrival, but she knew it was only a matter of time before he once again noticed her beauty and realized his mistake.

“Princess Ava?”

“Quiet, Sinil. Your Princess is thinking.” She barked.

The servant immediately bowed his head low to the floor, “My apologies, Il-Aine. I meant no disrespect.”

She waved at him for silence impatiently as she crossed her arms over chest and raised her eyes to the sky in thought. This was her chance. She could feel it. Zan was steps away from being hers.

“Who gave you this message Sinil?”

“It was whispered in my ear as is common among the royal Antarian messengers. I am not sure who the bearer of the message was. I did not recognize the energy.”

She shook her head in confusion and impatience, “I still don’t understand this nonsense about messages being sent through the air to their intended target. It’s impossible.”

The servant lifted his head slightly, “It is common practice among the royalty on Antar. Rest assured that someone of high-rank are the only ones with the capability to send anonymous messages such as this.”

High rank? It
had to be Zan.

A small smile made it’s way over her face and she suddenly was in a hurry to get to her destination. Without a second glance at the man kneeling at her feet, she quickly strode to the path leading to the rear gardens.

It took her some time to figure out the correct direction as she was still new to this part of the palace, but eventually she made her way to the front entrance of the maze. She looked around worriedly and wondered if she should enter the maze or wait in front when she heard the sound of a deep baritone float through the air.

“Zan?” She called out.

A laugh hit her ears and she immediately recognized it as Idris-Zan’s. Without a second thought, she made her way into the entrance and sent out her energy to find the source of that laughter.

There. She could feel him. She could feel him everywhere.

Her slipper clad feet hurried noiselessly through the fragrant grass and she felt a radiant smile blossoming over her face as she felt his energy get stronger and closer.

She turned a corner and knew he was on the other side of the grass wall directly on her right. She leaned into the wall with both palms and started to call out his name when a sound stopped her. A moan drifted lazily through the air and her smile slid off her face.

“We are going to be in so much trouble if they find us.”

Her mouth dropped open as she ripped her palms off the grass wall as if burnt. She put her fist in her mouth to stop the cry of rage that threatened to leak out.

Danae. Danae was on the other side of that wall. With her Prince. HER PRINCE.

“Right now, I do not care. Do you?”

He didn’t care if they got caught? He didn’t care that he was already betrothed to another? HE DIDN’T CARE?!

“Do I what?” Came the breathless reply.

Oh Goddess, he was touching her. She could feel the air for what it truly was; for what she had tried so valiantly to ignore on her trek over here. The passion and desperation was heavy and she could taste the vile feelings in the back of her throat. She had subconsciously blocked it from her mind but it now washed over her and threatened to send her to her knees.

“Do you care if we get caught, Selenta?”

Beautiful……Oh Goddess, how she had dreamed of hearing that endearment coming out of his mouth and into her ears. But not like this. Not this way.

Another moan. This one long and drawn out and she finally felt the bile rise in her throat.

“No. No I do not care, please….just……”

“That’s it Selenta, come for me.”

Her head moved frantically as she searched for some way to escape this hell. She moved blindly to an exit behind her and ran through it only to be slapped in the face by the full view of exactly what she was trying so hard to run away from.

Zan’s arms were around her, one hand stroking her intimately as his own breath labored in her ear. Danae’s head was turned to the side as the silky strands of her hair flowed freely along the front of his body down past his waistline. Her mouth was opened in a gasp as she moved her hips frantically in time with his fingers.

There was power mingling in the air and she realized Zan had tried to muffle the sounds they were making with his energy but instead had unknowingly blocked any sounds from reaching them. He couldn’t feel anyone around them. He couldn’t hear anyone approach them. He was still such a little boy when it came to mastering his powers.

Then again, he was decidedly distracted.

‘No…..No……NO! This isn’t happening.’ The Princess thought to herself as tears of absolute rage spilled down her cheeks.

“I love you, Danae.”

NO! NO! NO!

Danae finally shuddered in his arms and stopped moving as she breathed heavily through her release. She tilted her head up to meet Zan’s lips with her own and the Princess finally had a complete view of her face.

“Liz? What the-.”

Black rage ran through her and up towards the sky and blanked out the scene before her………………..

Tess was abruptly thrown back into her conscious mind and was greeted by the ending strains of the birthday song and the sight of Liz clapping along with everyone else around them.

What the fuck just happened?

“Make a wish, Tess!” Someone yelled out.

“Make sure it’s a good one!” Someone else shouted.

She was still breathing erratically as she tried her hardest not to scream in rage. Even the past wasn’t even hers. Max was never hers. Fucking Elizabeth Parker haunted her in all her lifetimes.

They knew this. They knew what had happened. They were using her. They had LIED to her.

Now someone had some explaining to do.

Il-Aine – Pronounced – ill-I-ney – Means: Your Radiance

Idris- Prince

Sinil – Derogatory term for Servant

So, i suck. I have a whole list of excuses which im sure none of you want to hear and thats ok neither would I. :( However, I did a bad thing and got all engrossed in my M/L/Z fic that i have yet to post, because i'm determined to get it all written out so that way there isn't weeks in between updates.

In between moving offices (Which was a nightmare by the way), I managed to get this part written and out, but in the meantime lets briefly summarize:

1)Max and Liz accessed memories from their other timeline.
2)Max and Liz have discovered that they both were on Antar in the past.
3)Liz’s name on Antar was Danae.
4)They loved each other desperately but for some reason could not be together. What that reason is has yet to be revealed.
5)Tess has continually mindwarped Max and has an agenda of her own. Also yet to be revealed.
6)Tess was given a vision of her own past on Antar and was enraged when she learned that Liz was also there and apparently she’s being lied to….by someone…also yet to be revealed.
7)The gang believes that Tess’s agenda in their other timeline may also be her agenda in this one.
8)Max wants to try and access their antarian memories through…ahem….sexual means. How they will do that exactly…..you guessed it…has yet to be revealed.
9)And I just realized that I am a cruel and evil tyrant for leaving everyone out on a limb with all of these loose ends. And the sadder part? This section doesn’t truly answer any of those loose ends. But something important happens here and needs to happen.

Otherwise, I apologize for the huge delay. :(

The last thing Liz wanted to do was sing and act like she gave a damn about Tess’ fake birthday. However, things had to be done to keep up appearances.

Grinning and bearing it seemed to be the theme of the day.
She knew standing possessively by Max’s side was probably a mistake but she couldn’t help the feeling of foreboding that started when they walked into the room and Max quickly grabbed the birthday cake out from Mr. Valenti’s hands with a smile of reassurance.

Something was wrong. She could feel it. Something was happening. There was an itching somewhere in the back of her mind, but she couldn’t seem to be able to find the exact place to scratch.

A movement out of the corner of her eye made her swing around in slight panic as an alarm bell seemed to go off in her head.

Tess……

She was standing in the corner of the room with Alex and Kyle but something was off. Liz tried to get a clear view of her through the mass of people but Tess kept getting swallowed up in the movement of the crowd.

As more seconds passed, the more Liz felt as if she was going to faint in this fear that she couldn’t understand.

Something wasn’t right, dammit.

“Isabel,” Liz whispered fiercely, “Shut the lights. Hurry.” Something to distract her. Anything to distract her…but why?

Isabel nodded and made to move towards a switch.

“No.” Liz said, her voice slightly strained, “Use your powers. Noone will know the difference. Just hurry.”

Isabel gave her a strange look but surreptitiously snapped her fingers. Darkness settled around them leaving only the light from the candles to illuminate their immediate surrounding area.

The room was shrouded in shadows as the music was cut short and Liz’s poor heart felt like it was ready to burst from her chest. Maybe being in the dark with Tess not in her immediate line of vision wasn’t such a good idea after all.

It seemed like an even stupider idea as four glowing dots seemed to float their way over to them. It took Liz a second to realize that the glowing dots were Tess’s eyes and hands as she was walking towards them with the strangest bittersweet expression gracing her features. Liz didn’t even try to look at the others around her to see if they saw what she saw. By now she knew better. This was a manifestation of Tess’ powers and she was the only one who could see it in a physical sense.

Liz started to feel a pressure start to build around her eyes as the blonde got closer and closer to them. She felt her lips moving in time with the rest of the crowd but she couldn’t help but stare at Tess in confusion and not a little bit of malevolence.

“Happy Birthday to you…………..”

Before she could realize what was happening, her eyes started to almost reject what they were seeing. A black cloud seemed to replace the space Tess was occupying and it was almost as if she was erased from the spot she was standing in. Liz quickly blinked her eyes and before she could react the cloud was gone and another face stared back at her for a second. It was Tess……but it wasn’t.

Blond hair. Check.

Blue eyes. Check.

Malice in the gaze. Check.

But………

Another blink and Tess was standing in front of her cake practically glaring into the flames of the candles, her blue eyes shining brightly. Liz watched in awe as the candles flamed higher than normal and seemed to point at her as Tess’s eyes slid over to meet hers.

Hate. Pure, fierce hate.

It sent a chill down Liz’s spine. This woman……alien…would not hesitate to dispose of her. It was there, deep in the windows of her black soul. The ability to kill without preamble. To take out roadblocks with the flick of her hand.

So what was holding her back?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*

The rest of the evening seemed to pass in a blur. The party broke up not long after the cake was cut, as most parties do. Liz, Maria and the rest of the I Know an Alien Club were staying behind to help clean The Crashdown after the party and Tess was going to go home as it was her ‘birthday’.

Curiously, Tess stayed away from Max for the rest of the night only coming up to him when she was leaving. After the strange incident during Tess’s birthday song, Liz had kept a close eye on her throughout the rest of the party. However, Tess proved to be a boring subject. She stayed with Mr. Valenti and Kyle and, while she seemed preoccupied, remained stiffly standing on the outskirts of the party. It seemed the drama for this night was over. For now.

“Max?” Came the blondes voice.

Max, as well as most of the rest of the group, noticeably stiffened before turning towards Tess, “What’s up Tess?”

Tess ran a hand through her hair once, her eyes skittering over to everyone before pulling Max slightly away from the others, “I’m-uh-leaving for the night.” Liz heard her say as she pulled garbage into the bag in her hand and shamelessly eavesdropped on the conversation, “I just wanted to thank you for coming and-um-if you don’t mind, maybe tomorrow we can meet up and finish our talk?”

“Uh-talk?”

Tess nodded, “Yes, our talk. The one that was interrupted in the breakroom.”

Liz heard Max clear his throat, “Tess, I mean, I don’t think that’s necessary. It never ends well when we talk about these things. Why don’t we just drop it, okay?”

Liz watched as Tess’s eyes narrowed and she felt that familiar twinge of fear run up her spine.

Tess pursed her lips before answering, “Max,” She said slowly, “I really want to finish our conversation.” She insisted as she tried to take Max’s hand in her own only to wince when Max snatched it away.

“Tess, I’ll call you in the morning okay?” Max shoved his hands in his pockets before quickly leaning down and giving her a quick peck on the cheek. “Happy Birthday.”

Tess clenched her jaw and looked for all intents and purposes as if she was about to argue with Max, before nodding once and looking around the room, “Have a good night everyone and, um, thank you for coming and helping out and…….
I’ll…..uh see you in school on Monday.”

With one last almost glare in Liz’s direction, she made her way to the door where Mr. Valenti was waiting to take her home.

“You sure you kids are going to be okay here with the cleaning?” Mr. Valenti said as he held the door open for Tess.

Kyle nodded as he made his way over to the key hanging from the lock on the front door, “Yeah, we’re sure Dad. Don’t worry. I’ll be home as soon as I can. Someone has to stay behind and make sure these teenagers do a good job.”

Maria rolled her eyes, “In other words he’s going to be pointing at all the dirt and telling us to clean it.”

Kyle turned a haughty eye to Maria, “Well, that is what a supervisor does isn’t it?”

“Since when did you become ‘supervisor’?” Maria asked in part humor part disgust, before raising her arms and dropping them down in frustration, “Oh God, I’m playing right into his hands aren’t I?”

Mr. Valenti shook his head and fought a smile, “We’ll see you kids later. Have a good evening.” With that, he walked out the door and into the car where Tess was currently waiting.

The minute the door was firmly locked behind him Liz turned to the rest of the group, “Something happened earlier and I’ve been trying to figure out what.”

Max, Michael, Maria and Isabel immediately gave Liz their attention while Kyle and Alex threw a wet, slightly dirty rag back and forth to one another, oblivious to the evident tension flowing between their friends.

Max stepped forward, “What happened? Did we miss something?”

Liz nodded, “When we came back Tess was in the middle of a warp…..I think.”

The rag flew towards Kyle and hit him square in the face with a wet slap as he turned towards Liz in utter confusion. He threw the rag to the side and shook his head, “What?”

“Shit.” Michael said on a sigh.

Isabel grabbed Alex’s hand, “I think you guys should sit down. We have a lot to cover and not a lot of time.”

Alex made a face, “Why am I so sure that this will not end well?”

Liz gave him a tired look, “Because it’s won’t.” She said simply.

Kyle raised a hand, “Wait. Wait, wait, wait. How do you know that Tess was mindwarping anyone? What would make you even say that?”

Liz looked at Max and silently asked if it was okay for her to explain. With a slight nod he motioned her slightly forward.

Liz took a deep breath and tried to gather her thoughts, “It started earlier today…..well…..actually, if I were to get truly technical it all started the night before the Gomez concert………..”

From the look on Kyle’s face, Liz knew he realized a big reveal was coming. She just hoped he could find it in his heart to understand why she didn’t immediately tell him why she needed him to pretend to sleep with her.

“That night I had a visitor. That visitor was Max…..from the future…………”

It took about 20 minutes for Liz to get to the part where she had first seen Tess use her powers during her receipt of Max’s gift and it took that long for Kyle to start to protest.

“You know what? Stop right there. I’m not sure I want to hear anymore of this intergalactic bullshit.”

“Kyle!” Maria yelled in shock.

“No! You know you guys have been suspicious of her since day one and she has only proven what an asset she is to your cracked club and you just keep using her and ignoring her like she doesn’t even exist!” Kyle stopped and clenched his fists, “Sort of like me. A pawn to be used whenever it’s convenient.”

Liz gave Kyle a hurt look mixed with anger, “Kyle, Tess is using all of us. Probably even you.”

Kyle shook his head firmly, “No! You see that’s where you’re wrong. From what I understand that other Tess from that other timeline was the evil one. And you know what? Let’s be real for one second. The reason she turned out that way is because she was being treated like garbage by the one man she loves more than anyone! Max fucking Evans who always has to get the girl!” Kyle turned accusing eyes towards Max briefly before continuing in a quieter, but no less angrier, voice, “It’s not like that now. She has a family who loves and cares about her. She has friends.” He stops before looking at them in disgust, “Or at least I thought she had friends.”

Liz scrunched up her eyebrows and decided to take one issue at a time. “Kyle,” She started quietly, “Please just hear me out, ok? Let me just finish with everything that happened.”

Kyle softened as he looked at Liz in the eye, “I’m sorry Liz. But……I just can’t listen to this. I mean do you realize what you’re implying?”

“That Tess is a cold hearted, manipulative, potentially murdering biatch? Yeah, I think we’re all well aware of the implication, we’re just smart enough to face the facts instead of thinking with our dicks or being one for that matter.” Maria chimed in before Liz had a chance to answer.

Kyle shook his head in disgust. “You really think this is about sex? I care about Tess like a sister. Like my family. Someone I can count on. I don’t think about her that way. At all.”

Maria held up two fingers in the shape of a W and mouthed “Whatever.”

Kyle made a noise of frustration before Liz grabbed his arm and led him slightly away from the others.

“Kyle, please,” Liz started, “Just hear me out on the rest and then we’ll take it from there. There is just so much more going on that you don’t understand.”

His face scrunched up, and an unreadable expression flashed over his face, “I never do when it comes to you.”

Liz tilted her head to the side as confusion took over and she tried to read Kyle’s face, “Kyle, what are you talking about?”

He slid a palm over his face before looking down at her and for the first time in a long time Liz finally saw what she had been so desperately ignoring. The longing in Kyle’s eyes made her heart clench in sorrow for what used to be.

Was Kyle perfect? Not at all. But he had grown. Grown into a good man. A man she could count on in a blink of an eye. And he was right. She had used him and he had let her. Willingly. However, Kyles’ reasoning behind all that wasn’t as simple as him being a loyal friend. That had only been her assumption. As she looked up at her ex-boyfriend she realized that while she had moved on in every sense of the word, Kyle couldn’t let go of all the what-may-have-beens.

And it broke her heart.

It broke her heart to see that look in his eyes that he had so carefully hidden from her time and time again. Or maybe she had just been that blind to it. Once Max Evans had been in her line of vision everything else had paled in comparison. Even the ever loyal Kyle.

God, she felt like such an asshole.

Slowly and almost without thought, she reached for one of his hands and lightly squeezed. She watched as Kyle grasped her fingers in between the warmth of his and started to lightly caress the indent between her thumb and forefinger. A gesture so familiar yet it had been so easily forgotten. So comforting yet it held none of the fireworks that shot out at her from the simple touch of Max Evans.

With a look of regret in her eyes, Liz took a deep breath, “Kyle,” She began.

“Don’t Liz.” He said as he desperately tried to bring back up those walls. “Just don’t okay? We’ll deal with it another time. Not now. Just….just finish telling me what you think you know. I won’t promise you that I’ll swallow it all willingly but….I’ll listen. Let’s just not discuss…..this….right now.”

With one final squeeze of his hand, Liz nodded, amazed at how they both just knew what the other had been trying to say without words.

“Thank you.” Liz said softy.

Liz heard someone clear their throat on the other end of the room, “Uh, hello? Is Kyle ready to stop being such a tard?”

“Maria!” Alex yelled in exasperation.

“What?”

Ignoring the antics of her best friend, Liz gave Kyle a small smile and both of them made their way over to the others.

“Okay, so where was I?” She asked.

“You were up to the part where you first saw Tess’s powers manifest.” Alex said, “Which is completely freaking me out by the way.”

“Right. Okay. So, I was talking to Maria when I felt this strange feeling in my stomach…….”

To Maria’s very verbal amazement, Kyle managed to stay quiet throughout the rest of Liz’s explanation and even asked a few questions. Alex was stuck between amazement and disbelief. He had a very hard time believing that Liz had been on Antar. His skepticism was understandable. Liz still had a hard time believing it herself. However, when Liz was finished that brought on a whole other set of questions.

“…….during the Happy Birthday song something happened as well. I’m still not sure exactly what, but Tess seemed to almost disappear for a second. Like she was just erased from where she was standing and then she was almost someone else….I don’t know how else to explain it. One second she was there. The next second she wasn’t. And then the second after that….it was almost as if someone else’s face replaced hers……..I mean….I don’t know. It was her but it …wasn’t.” Liz looked around helplessly, feeling ridiculous at her lack of a proper description.

“But she was definitely in the middle of mindwarping someone.” Max said as he leaned against one of the tables with his arms crossed in front of him. His eyes shone with worry, “The question now is…who?”

Liz cleared her throat, “Um…in this case I think we could narrow it down to two people. Alex and Kyle were the only one of us near her right before I had Isabel shut the lights off.”

“I’m telling you she wasn’t mind warping me or Alex or anyone.” Kyle said his shoulders stiff with denial, “She wouldn’t do that. She was trying to help m-” Kyle abruptly cut himself off and closed off his expression.

“Kyle?” Isabel asked a small frown starting to form.

“She just wasn’t mind warping us okay?” Kyle said angrily.

“No, not okay.” Michael said nastily, “Do you think I want to believe that we have a traitor on our hands? Do you think I want to believe that Tess is mindwarping Max at every turn? Do you think I want to believe all this crap about Liz not being human?”

Maria held up her hand, “Whoa, hold on Spaceboy. Don’t get ahead of yourself. I’ve been thinking about all this and I think Liz was definitely born human. And even though all this weird crap is happening, I think she still is human. Although she may be changing now that lover boy over there saved her life that day. However, I do think her soul is…Danaes’. She may have been named Liz Parker by her parents…..but her soul ….her soul has always been Danaes’.”

Michael raised his eyes to the ceiling, “Why am I not surprised you’d bring in your soulmate mumbo jumbo into this?”

Maria glared at Michael, “Because I’m right dammit. Max and Liz, they’ve never had a normal relationship. Those bells and whistles they always seem to hear from a mere kiss? Totally not normal.” She glared even harder at him, “And believe me when I say that the fireworks don’t happen with every alien.”

“Ahem,” Alex said, “I beg to differ.”

Maria made a face as Alex grinned goofily into Isabel’s eyes, “Whatever. Anyway, is my point really so hard to believe? Among all this other crap that’s been happening in our lives, this doesn’t seem so implausible. And besides…….I know I’m right.”

Kyle had noticeably stiffened and seemed to be getting quietly angrier by the moment. Liz was taken back to that day at the Pod Chamber when she heard that Tess had been Max’s wife in a prior lifetime. She remembered how it had hit her and how hard her heart wanted to shrivel up and die. She could sympathize with what Kyle might be feeling right now and wanted to laugh at the irony of how often history seemed to be repeating itself within their world.

None of them could ever seem to get it right.

“Can we move backwards for a second please?” Max asked as he stepped forward, “One thing at a time. Kyle, the point of a mind warp is so that the person doesn’t know they’re being manipulated. If Tess was mind warping you, you wouldn’t realize it or remember anything about it.”

“But Liz just finished saying that you sensed it earlier. That you knew she was mind warping you even though before you couldn’t.”

“I don’t know why I can sense it now. Maybe…Maybe I’m accepting my alien side a little bit more now. Maybe Tess is getting sloppy. Who knows? The point is you and Alex would never know if you were being manipulated. So now, how the heck do we find out which one of you was it?”

Isabel turned worried eyes to both Alex and Kyle, “We may never truly know. I don’t think even dreamwalking them would work.”

“Listen here Missy, you keep your big alien feet outta my head, ya dig?” Kyle said, pointing an angry finger in Isabel’s face. “If I even get an inkling that you’re trespassing around in there, I swear-.”

“What Kyle?” Max said very quietly, a dangerous, foreign glitter in his eyes, “What do you swear?”

Kyle sneered in Max’s direction before turning back to Isabel. When he caught the tired sadness in her gaze he seemed to deflate, “I’m….I apologize Isabel. This is just…too much for me to handle right now. And I’m sorry but I don’t want to believe any of you.”
He set his face into a hard shell, “I need to think about all of this.” Kyle started to make his way towards the door. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow or something.”

Maria turned angry eyes towards Kyle, “Can we trust you to keep your big ass mouth shut? Or are you going to run to Tess?”

Kyle stiffened in his flight to the door, before turning to the rest of them, “I won’t say anything.” He pursed his lips, “But don’t mistake my silence for any big loyalty to your alien king. I’m going to keep my mouth shut simply because I don’t want to sound like a raving lunatic to the one of the few people I give a shit about.”

With that, Kyle walked out the door with a slam.
