Fics by Tears_of_Mercury (UPDATED 10/21)

Post by Tears_of_Mercury »

Hi, ya'all! I thought that I should put one of these up about now, since I'm pretty far into my first Roswell fic and have tons more on the way. My sneak peak section is, as of now, pretty much the biggest.

WIPs

Reconstructing Madonna

Summary: A story set in (somewhat) present time that leaves cannon behind after Ch-ch-changes. For Max, Liz leaving was just the latest in a long line of painful events, but for Liz things just got worse from there. Six years later and she's still struggling to control her powers, hold down a job she didn't aspire to, and keep her friends from worrying. When her nightmares evolve and become premonitions she finds herself working next to Max once more and struggling to come to terms with why she ran away in the first place.

Trick of the Light

Summary: At the end of Max to the Max, a tragic misstep leads to Liz being captured by the FBI instead of Max. As clashing opinions on a plan of action divide Max, Alex, Maria, Tess, Michael, Isabel, and Nacedo, Liz begins to develop alien powers and discovers that sometimes the worst hell isn't the one created by someone else. Based on the challenge by FrenchDreamer.

One-shots

Anchor
*UC

Summary: 'He has the inconceivable wish that she would linger for a moment.' After his altercation with Hank in Independence Day, Michael goes back to see Isabel.

Different

Summary: A pre-pilot Max thinks about the differences between him and the object of his affections.

Link to story: http://www.roswellfanatics.net/viewtopi ... =4&t=18961

Equilibrium
*UC

Summary: Isabel has some problems with her balance. Michael helps. This takes place sometime in and after ‘The Toy House.’ It references later cannon, though it doesn’t change anything significantly. This story is the prequel/companion piece to Anchor, and although I’d love if you read (and reviewed) that story, it’s not required to understand this one.

Falling into Place

Summary: ‘She’d forgotten that world-changing doesn’t always mean bad.’ A somewhat angsty and generally OOC musing where the author follows Liz’s non-existent storyline in A Roswell Christmas Carol.

Link to story: http://www.roswellfanatics.net/viewtopi ... =4&t=18870

The Protector

Summary: Post- EOTW and –Harvest. Michael invites Courtney to homecoming… kind of, anyway, and our favorite peeling alien gets a front row seat to the drama of Michael and Maria. She also finds a confidant in an unexpected place. Because sometimes it’s the people who don’t know you at all who understand you best. Done for the Avant Garde '07 Fall Challenge at Roswell Heaven.

Signal Fire

Summary: When Max sees Liz and Kyle in bed together, his small hold on control slips away. He finds himself isolated from all of the people who are supposed to care about him and decides leave Roswell. When Liz finds out about his disappearance she immediately begins searching for him, flashes that he's left behind guiding her way. The answer to the challenge from Zanity.

The Polaris Series

Summary: The ancient Arabs thought Polaris was an outcast among stars. The Moguls and Scandinavians believed it held the universe together. Only the Omaha Indians knew the truth: Polaris was the star that guided all weary travelers home. An alternate version of Breaking Dawn in which Seth is the werewolf to imprint on Renesmee.

as though there were some obstacle in her way;
and yet: as though, once it was overcome,
she would be beyond all walking, and would fly.”

“Few men can keep alive through a big surf
to crawl, clotted with brine, on kindly beaches
in joy, in joy, knowing the abyss behind:
and so she too rejoiced, her gaze upon her husband,
her white arms round him pressed as though forever.”

tax collector, police inspector;
this inner time is our wife.”

Souls Mate Eternal

Summary: Ever since Max and Tess came back from New York, Liz has been plagued with vivid and heartbreaking dreams - dreams where she isn't Liz Parker but Liz Valenti; where Max, Michael, Isabel, and Tess do not exist; and where she is left, virtually friendless, to keep her life together. As the dreams intensify in frequency and emotion, a new character enters the scene - the mysterious Zan, who is both a help and a threat.

Ten Thousand Miles

Summary: Mistakes were made; lives were taken. Sixteen years later, Renesmee Cullen is righting a wrong and making history by breaking a flawed imprint. Feeling isolated from the only family she's ever known but unable to turn her back on them completely, she makes the long journey to the ex-pack member who can tell her the truth about the night she was born. In the end, it's the lonely Seth Clearwater who makes her realize that even what's shattered can be made new again. [SethxNessie]

This ruined puzzle sounds like a good story. I like time travel fics.

Carrie, feel free to call me Rachael. :)

As for 'Signal Fire,' most of the first part is written, but I haven't written anything for it in months... but as it is a challenge and I did say I would get to it soon, I'll probably be editing and posting in short order. I just want to make sure before I start posting that a new fic won't interfere with updating 'Madonna.'

EDITED because spotty internet connection and double posting go hand in hand. My note is nowhere good enough to warrant a repetition.

Hi, guys. I know I've been slightly MIA lately on the CC and AA boards. I think I'm getting somewhat productive again, though (finally!). I had that whole mid-story existential crisis where I go "Oh em gee, I'm so not writing the story I thought I was, and all the original things I thought I was doing were so stupid and cliche and I really need to be doing the exact opposite and... and... and my whole key storyline is one big, fat, stupid mess!!!!" Thankfully, though, rereading a classic ('Age of Innocence') and walking my dog in monsoon-ish weather got my sarcastic and somewhat good-humored side back into gear just long enough for me to tell myself, "Please. You knew from the beginning you weren't writing a masterpiece. So what if you want to go back and do massive edits? It makes you ten kinds of evil and big-headed to really think that the story would be so much better after rearranging one or two words every three chapters that everyone would fall all over themselves excusing a three-month absence while you did that and procrastinated on actually updating." So now that all my personalities have reintegrated and the intelligent side of my brain is kicking in, updates should be forthcoming soon-ish. (Or, for anyone who just wondered what the hell I'm talking about, see actual author Libba Bray's much more succinct and ten times as funny lj entry: http://libba-bray.livejournal.com/36896.html A Great and Terrible Beauty totally saved my life freshman year of high school. And... that didn't make me sound like a total dork at all. )

Oh, and just as an aside I'm gonna show ya'll the lovely banner precariousem made for an AU w/Aliens that I'm working on (translation: maybe it'll be up by the end of 2009).
