Transcending Destiny (AU,M/L,TEEN/MATURE) NEW Chpt 32 5/24

Post by EclecticRoswellian »

Okay so, first off I want to continue to thank all you guys out there that are still reading my lame attempts at entertaining, Thnxs!!!!

Um I have an idea how I want to end this but it may get really dark before the light so bare with me... Pls continue to feedback it inspires me

Chapter 32

He stared at his surroundings and a released a heavy sigh, though he was not surprised by the coldness of her actions, it never dawned on him that she'd be capable of so much cruelty. He could still hear the fear that trembled in his sister's final plea or the way her eyes widened in terror as her life was snuffed out, he'd never been close to her, even when they were children she kept herself closed off from the rest of them, but she did not deserve to die like that.

"Zan...?"

He turned to find Ava's frightened blue eyes staring back at him, "Yeah Aves."

She scurried to his side, desperate to feel the security his arms always seemed to provide, "I'm sorry Zan, I'm so sorry..." her apology deserved no explanations. They both were well aware of their fate, and though they'd never held any delusions as to what their purpose in this life was, it still left them acheing for what could've been.

Zan held her as she cried and offered what little comfort he could, "Sshh Aves, yous got nothin to be sorry for..." His arms tightened around her, "...hey we's gonna be okay, you and me, wes always find our own way, right?"

Ava nodded and smiled timidly up at him, and thanked the gods for allowing her the honor remain at his side, "Yeah we's always do..."

In this moment Zan finally understood the depth of Ava's love for him, he let the images of his memory float by and watched each moment in time. She'd never betrayed him, even when he'd been so heartless in his attentions to other women, even when he'd used her and left her alone and crying. Her love remained unchanged and pure, and Zan finally realized though his love for Alexia would never really disappear, his heart would/could love again. The punked out blonde in his arms, was his future, and a small smile graced his lips.

She could feel the shift in his emotions and turned her face up to meet his gaze, "Zan?"

"Aves I've been so stupid, and yous been at my side through it all, yous never once faltered, Iz can't ever apologize enough to you, but Iz swear..." he traced the contours of her face gently, and wiped a smudge of dirt of her cheek, "...I swear, I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you."

Tears brimmed in her eyes, and she stared up at him in shock, what a cruel irony it was, that what she's always prayed for was happening on the cusp of her death. Yet she'd take it, even if it was only a few hours, she'd live a liftime in those hours and she'd love him with the urgency of death. "Oh Zan..." she whispered before she tipped her head up and met his lips.

Their kiss was not hungry or rushed, it was gentle and reaffirming, allowing both of them the oppurtunity to reconnect with each other. Allowing them a small fragment of time, that belonged only to them. Despite the war, or their upcoming execution, these few hours belonged to them and them alone. Zan lifted her into his arms and walked them both over to the bed, he'd offer her his heart and what little else he possesed and she'd take it gratefully.

They'd face the world together in the morning, face the horrors that awaited them as duplicates, and even the pitiful death that was looming on the horizon, but they'd face it with the strength of a couple. They'd face it as a couple and endure the sacrifice with the strength of love in their hearts.

**********

The morning light that drifted in slits from the blinds, brushed over her face leaving jagged shadows to dance across the room. Though she could feel her body awakening from sleep's tired embrace, she struggled to remain under, she fought to continue the dream that was her only salvation. Yet like everything in life, the good never remains a constant, and soon enough her illusions vanished.

"Morning Highness, did you sleep well?"

"Yes thank you..." she yawned and stretched with catlike finesse. Her eyes immediately landed on the blonde that was still bowed at her feet, "There is no need for such formalities Ambrosia, you may rise."

"Majesty it is merely a sign of my respect..." Ambrosia smiled and winked as she stood and stared adroingly at her queen.

With a quick wave of her hand, Liz fixed herself, leaving her perfectly dressed, with immaculate percission. "What is on the agenda today?"

"Well, first you must address the troops and announce our departure, after which I suggest you handle the dupes and Khivarr, there is no need to delay their fate any longer than necessary." Ambrosia paused and waited for the nod to continue, "I assume you would want to secure the royal court now that Ciyan has been reenstated..."

"So the prince is awake, and I assume they are non the wiser of his true purposes." Liz stared with unseeing eyes at the morning landscape, from her window.

"No clue Highness, so far all is falling into place, um.."

"Yes Ambro what is it?"

"Highness we are going to proceed with the Kings awakening and would like your authourity to step up the time table." She waited with baited breath, unsure how the news would be recieved. At first the silence was unnerving, but when Liz nodded she released a breath and continued, "Other than that we are set, shall I inform the others?"

"Fine, I will be out shortly, dismissed." Liz informed and watched as her Captain vanished from sight.

Ambrosia's departure, left her feeling empty, she'd never been one to enjoy the trajedies of power, and now was no exception. She could feel the weight of her decisions, as they bared down on her soul, and knew instinctively that this path would ultimately lead to her destruction, but she seemed powerless to stop her own actions. 'This must take its course...' her mind explained.

'They will never forgive me...' she silently mused, already weary from the days hardships.

The voice in her soul was already arguing back, 'They will have no choice but forgive you, when they realized what you've spared them from.'

She hated that voice, her twined soul, locked deep within her mind, the cold and heartless ruler that pushed for vengence, the darkness in her heart that threatened to devour her completely. 'You are a fool, if you imagine we will survie this trail, we were doomed from birth' Liz wordlessly spat back at herself.

She caught her reflection in the mirror, and shuddered, this creature was not her, this creature was a twisted wretch and she pitied her, 'We are cursed, the prophecy was right, no being should be damned with the knowledge of eternity, we will perish under its weight.' she caustically laughed before flinging an arm out and disintegrating the glass in a shower of violet sparks.

'You never could accept our destiny, now you fear the truth behind our visage, you are weak!' the voice snarled.

Straightening Liz raised her head high and continued forward towards the door, 'Soon' she thought back, soon she'd find her peace, soon all this treachery would finally be over and she'd vanish back into the emptiness of time, where she belonged. Her heart only had one regret, her hand came to rest at the flat expanse of her belly, and the warm glow of her child nestled inside.

'Forgive me Zan...' Her heart cried out as the voice in her soul laughed maniacally.

*************

It was a less somber group of royals that greeted the morning, they were aware of the trails that awaited them and held no misconceptions regarding how difficult it'd be to ovecome them, but with the hope of a new day also came a new sense of determination. They may have lost one of their own, but they also saved another, the scales seemed even and perhaps they could tip them in their favor.

Max sat alone staring out at the dawn, his thoughts a jumble of worry and pain, he knew they weren't his feelings alone, and it gave him a sense of comfort to know that the link between them was still intact. Needless to say the fact that she could feel, gave him hope, she was not the machine she so desperately tried to appear to be to the others. He could sense her sorrow, her confusion, her regret...

"Hey..."

"Goodmorning." He smiled up at his beloved's sister, "Your up early."

"Yeah, I really couldn't sleep, so how yous holdin up?" she questioned catiously.

"Shouldn't I be asking you that?" Max gave her a sympathetic smile and offered her a seat next to him. Though they'd never been close in this life or the last, he still felt the commadary that had blossomed at the same sense of loss they shared. Perhaps no other member of his family felt her loss as deeply as she did, and to know that they'd only had a mere second of time with her before the chaos seemed a cruel joke.

"Max.."

"Serina.."

She blushed and offered him the first opportunity, when he declined and insisted she finish her thought she gratefully smiled, "Iz know that I've never given you the benifit of the doubt, and Iz know that dis shit aint fair to you or any of us. It's just..." She swallowed hard and turned away from his gaze, it was hard enough to get through this without actually having to look at him. "Iz can't lose her again, you may not have had all your memories from back then, but da three of us were born with them still intact, and ders one thing that maybe even yous don't remember, but has haunted me for two lifetimes."

Max stared at her curiously, whatever it was she was struggling with, it was something big and it would probably rock his little world to the core, once again. Fear suddenly settled in the pit of his stomach and he almost stopped her unsure if he wanted to know, this secret, but one look at her teary eyed stare and he held his peace.

"She loved you from the first moment she saw you, we were only children no more than toddlers, but she knew immediately, she knew that there would only be you in her heart. And I was jealous and angry, she was my big sister, she was everything to me and when you came into the picture she just pushed me aside, not completely because its not in her nature to be cruel, but she closed off a piece of herself from me and the others and I was jealous of you, I hated you for that and..." She was now crying uncontrollably, her shudders making it hard to talk, but when he tried to comfort her she pulled away.

"Please don't be nice to me, I don't deserve it, I'm the reason we are all here, I'm the cause of all this pain and heart ache, I DID THIS!" She hissed out in anger, the force of her emotions causing the walls to shake briefly.

He simply nodded and kept his eyes trained on her, he could feel the others begining to wake and gather, but he warned Isabel to keep them away mentally, this was not something that needed a crowd. Max felt them back off, but could still fell everyone at the outskirts of the connection.

Grateful for the reprieve of having to explain her actions to an audience Serina sadly smiled at her king, her guilt ripping away at her resolve, when she saw the concern in his eyes. "Please don't look at me with those eyes, I don't deserve your concern, I don't deserve any of it..." Serina rubbed at her eyes, willing the tears to stop, "...It seemed simple back then, you know, I actually thought I was doing what was best for everyone, I actually believed in my heart that we'd all be better for it, how wrong I was, how irrecovably wrong I really was." She stood and began to pace the length of the room, it seemed so simple in her mind, even now the childlike simplicity of her plan made her laugh.

"I don't know if you remember, but Alexia was born for the soul purpose of one day ascending as the new holy maiden, she was going to bring about a new era, a golden era, but only with your help..." Serina watched as the confusion spread over Max's features, "...See Lexi isn't like the rest of us, well not exactly she is like one other another born under the same cusp of light and dark, but that is not the point of all this. Lexi had a destiny that was far greater than any of us could ever comprehend, but you have to understand Max, I just wanted my sister back, and I made a deal with the devil himself to achieve that. I destroyed so many lives for my own selfish reasons..."

Max felt the world around him begin to waver as her words sunk in, he'd always believed that it was never meant for him and Alexia to be, he'd been told from childhood that she was meant for another, she was destined for another. It was all a lie, he was her destiny, it was going against that destiny that had cost them all so much, it was because of...

"Don't Serina...please don't say anymore..."He pleaded his mind finally grasping what she was getting at.

Serina shook her head furiously, she needed to get this out, it may have been a selfish desire, but he needed to know the truth if they were going to surpass this obsticle. "The two of you were going to bring about a new age of peace and prosperity, and with it you'd be more powerful than any other leader to ever take the throne, but I changed that. I threw a pebble in the pond and rippled that destiny, sending everything into chaos, leading us to this point in time."

"How..." he whispered dejectedly, his eyes staring unfocused at the horizon.

"Once I heard that both Zan and Alexia were betrothed I set my plan in motion, we were still so young, barely in our 15th year, but I could see how much you both loved each other, and knew there'd be no way to seperate you by my merit alone, so I enlisted the help of unlikely allies. Only a few members of the royal court knew the full prophecy, and only a handful of priestesses at the temple new the truth, I made the deal that sealed our fate..."

His eyes wiped back to her, and he could see the truth even before she spoke it, but this needed to be spoken, he needed to hear her say the words, "Keep Going." his voice was steely cold as the transformation took over his body.

Terrified she watched as Max, transformed into King Zan, his obsidian eyes rimmed with fiery gold power, Serina could only nod and continue, "Khivar was easy to manipulate, I simply told him what he wanted to hear, and dressed in her robes I whispered sweet nothings of power and lust in his ears and sealed our fates, but it wasn't enough to have him under my thumb I needed one other. One who could manipulate memories, one who could transform what was known into a completely different outcome.."

"Ava..." he whispered

"Yes Ava, you may not know this but we were all great childhood friends, and Ava was desperately in love with your brother, he loved her just as fiercely. I knew this and I destroyed any chance of their happiness. I poisoned her thoughts against him, and led her to desire you, I never realized how very good my lies were..." Serina mused ironically, "...she became obessesed with the notion that you and her were prophesized by heaven to be this great couple, and she twisted Ciyan's thoughts away from her and onto Alexia. Once I was certain that Ava was completely onboard, we set out to change the course of history, and you know where it led us. God I am so sorry Zan, you will never know how sorry I am, I did all that to keep my sister at my side and I ended up being the cause of her death, nothing will ever change that and I will never find reprieve for my actions..." Serina sobbed falling to her knees in desperation.

"FINISH!" he ground out.

"I...I tried to set things right, but the more I tried to fix things the worse they got, Khivarr and Ava grew crazy obsessed and soon plotted without my consent, when I'd learned of Alexia's pregnancy and the marriage. I believed that fate had salvaged destiny on its own, I never imagined..." The tears were running wildly down her cheeks, as she was almost to the point of hysterics.

Max stood horrified and stared at the pitiful being at his feet, and all the anger and pain boiled to the surface, his restraint snapped and all hell broke loose. He kneeled down and forcefully lifted her chin up to meet his gaze.

Terror rolled through her as she stared into the jet black eyes of retribution, she waited for the swift hand of vengence to strike her down. She heard the doors burst open and could barely make out the screams of her family. Everything faded into the background, a blur of voices and shapes, the only solid thing was the unrestraint anger that tore into her as she continued to stare into his midnight eyes.

With a wave of his hand Max erected an invisible wall, seperating his family from himself and Serina, he could here their pleas, begging him to release her, begging him to spare her, begging him to be merciful. But all he could see when he stared at her familiar face was the bloodied mess that was his wife and unborn child, her dead eyes staring out into the blackness of night, her cold pale hands trying to protect their child even in death. A wave of sheer hate crashed into his heart, and had he not released her face he'd have fried her brain with the overwhelming force of it. He stood his body consumed with red sparks of power, as he stared down at her weeping form.

"YOU NEVER IMAGINED...YOU WHO PLAYED GOD WITH ALL OUR LIVES FOR WHAT? FOR PEITY JEALOUSY!" His voice roared in the small space, he could feel the presence of new arrivals, but ignored everything around him and focused on her. Fighting the urge to rip her to shreds, he took a breath and focused his mind, "Serina your selfishness destroyed an empire, you killed us all, death is far to generous an act for you..."

"NO PLEASE!!" Serina cried out, begging to be finally released, but when she stared up at the malicious smirk that unfurled on her king's lips, all hope vanished.

"No Please...I believe those were your precious sisters last words, as she stared into the eyes of her murderor, the funny thing is, it isn't Ava's blue eyes she's staring into, but the emerald eyes of her beloved sister. You will live with the burden of knowing you destroyed everything you loved, and nothing will ever take that pain away. Your hell is far worse than anything I could ever concieve of doing to you..." Max harshly whispered before turning his back on her.

The room was gravely silent, and when the wall fell and Max stepped through the crowd, not a soul dared to move, the only sound that could be heard were the broken cries of a guilty sister. He walked past the three Captains and never faltered when they bowed to him, his entire person radiating pure power, he needed to get away before he killed the traitorous bitch at his feet and was thankful no one attempted to stop him. In the frame of mind he was in, he'd probably kill the next person to get in his way.

Serina stared after him, tears blurring her vision, she watched as the trio bowed and then watched as he disappeared from sight, the last thing she noticed before the world went black around her, was the satisfied smirk on the face of the brunette staring down at her. 'What have I done...' she whispered in her mind and then allowed the darkness to swallow her whole.

**********

"It has begun Majesty."

"Where is he now?" she asked with concern.

"He is headed for your room."

"Thank you, that will be all Evani, be on alert and make sure the Royals are secure."

"As you wish Highness." with a bow the brunette vanished.

Mere seconds later, the doors to her room burst open and their in all his glory stood her mate, power and anger thrumming through his body. She could feel her own energy rising eager to join the call of her king. She'd never seen him look more magnificent, and at the moment the room felt entirely to small, her breath was coming out in ragged pants and it was hard to focus on anything except his face.

"Zan..." his name came out in more of a plea and she noticed the half smirk that graced his lips.

Each powerful step caused her pulse to leap, Max's black eyes were now glowing with power and they were trained on her. Liz felt a wave of desire hit her suddenly and moaned out his name. He was reeking havoc on her senses and enjoying every single second of it, they'd not been together in almost a week and her body was craving his touch. In the back of her mind she knew this was a dangerous situation, especially since both their emotions were so heightened, their'd be no way to hide anything from each other if they happened to touch, at this moment.

"Ma..Max...we need to talk..." She felt him release another rush of desire and bit back a moan that tried to escape from her lips.

"I'm done talking Liz." He growled and stepped within a hair's breath away from her, he could feel the heat radiating off her body, and the entoxicating aroma of her feminity slithered around him teasingly.

Liz sucked in her bottom lip and prayed that some unexpected natural disaster abruptly bore down upon them, anything would do at this point, a freak tsunami, a tidal wave, even a hurricane would suffice. And though she was well aware that New Mexico was not really known for it's costal trajedies, she continued to pray hoping that perhaps the gods would be merciful.

"Max...Please..." her words silenced as he suddenly lunged and crashed his lips onto her. The kiss was the culmination of all the anger and passion that teatered between the two for the past week and it exploded around them, setting the room into a whirlwind of power and heat. Almost instantly the flashes started to flow freely between the two.

Flash...

Liz as a young child laughing and goofing around with Alex...

Flash..

Max stepping off the bus for the first time in the 3rd grade, feeling incredibly lonely and sad, but then a small girl with blonde pigtails and amazing green eyes running up to him and smiling.

"Hey your new here right, why not come play with me?" she asked but never waited for a reply before dragging him away to the playground.

Max feeling a little less alone, as he pushed her on the swings...

Flash...

"Ava I need your help?" Liz cautiously stepped up to the punked out version of her cousin.

She'd been expecting this for some time now, and she could say she was surprised to find Liz at the other end of the door to her hotel room, "Whats you need me to do?"

Liz smiled and for a moment regretted the place you would inadvertantly place her in, "Well, I need to get myself captured..."

Flash...

His voice roared in the small space, he could feel the presence of new arrivals, but ignored everything around him and focused on her.

Flash...

Two girls both identicle in apperance with long chocolate locks that flowed down their backs in curly waves, they both sat indian style facing each other, similar smiles graced their faces and their eyes were closed as they communicated without words. They were the personification of childlike innocence, as they held the worlds secrets in the depths of their mind.

Slowly they each turned to face the horizon, as their eyes opened the most amazing set of amber eyes stared out onto the vast open landscape.

"Daddy..."

End Flashes...

Max tore his lips away from Liz, and pushed her forcefully from his grasp, his mind was spinning, and he couldn't process the images he'd just seen, "What was that?" he asked, fear lacing his words for what her next answer would be.

Even before he pulled away, she knew, there'd be no possibly way he wouldn't know, "Max..." she whispered his name cautiously.

His eyes flickered back and forth between black and amber, his emotions were on a rampage, and it was taking all his self control to remain rooted in one place. Everytime he focused on her, his mind would flash with the images of the two perfect angels. "Please tell me, this is all just one big mistake, please tell me you did not set all this up...Please Liz, just tell me...please"

The pain and confusion dripping from his words, tore at her heart, the man before her was on the verge of snapping, he'd been through hell these last few months and this final betrayal would destroy him. This is what she feared, not the prophecy and not Khivarr, not even the 3 Sentiets, no what she feared was having to stand in this position, having to explain her part in this betrayal to the only man she'd ever truly love.

"I'm so sorry Max...I'm so sorry." she wept clutching her arms and falling to the floor.

And Max Evans world shattered to pieces...

Chapter 33

Silence...

Her hell was defined by a suffocating silence that not even the constant pititous noise of her own cries could drown out. She coulde feel the others treading lightly at the edge of her consciousness, but still refused to let them in. The condescending look of anger and resentment she found in the eyes of her king, would forever be engraved into her soul, and she was afraid to look into the eyes of her brothers and find her worst nightmare staring right back at her, the same destestable blame.

~Rina, please let me in, I...We need you, so please let me in~ Alex pleaded with his sister, he watched dejectedly as her eyes stared off into the vast distance, neverending tears falling down her cheeks. Alex turned pleading eyes to his brother who now had the daunting task of leading, in their kings absence.

Everyone was gathered in the adjescent spare room, emotions ran rampant through the group, feelings of pain, anger, and confusion slammed mercilessly into each one of them. It was regretably very clear that the unit was broken, their king was AWOL, their queen turned coat , and now one of their own was pandora incarnate. No one could offer condolescence, not this time, and as if luck wasn't already a bitch they were about to blast off, in less than two days.

"Okay, we need to regroup, and move forward with the plan." Michael asserted, stepping forward, with a very distraught Maria firmly planted at his side.

"Move forward with the plan...MOVE FORWARD." Isabel snapped caustically, her fear hidden behind a carefully manicured mask of disgust. "Have you lost your damn MIND...Max is gone...Liz is gone...Serina is barely coherent...Ava, Rath and Zan are probably dead, and God only knows what torture Tia and Xal have been subjected to!" Isabel was now inches away from Michael's face staring him down, her eyes blackened with misdirected rage, "...and what now your stepping up and assuming leadership roles, well highness forgive me if I don't bow." she spat her gaze dripping with rancor.

"Isabel?!" Alex gasped at the acid bite of her tongue

Isabel blinked as her gaze wavered and her mask slipped slightly causing her to back away ashamed by her own actions, "I..I'm sorry..." she managed to whisper out before fleeing from the room.

Alex was about to follow her, when Ciyan stopped him, "I'll go, yous stay an help rally da troops, Micky boy over der is gonna need your help." Ciyan explained throwing a worried glance over towards Michael. Alex nodded in understanding and watched as Ciyan dashed off after Isabel.

Seeing as their group was now short about half it's memebers Michael slumped back onto the couch in defeat, 'What am I doing?' he wordlessly questioned himself, burying his face in his hands Michael felt all his old inadequacy resurface.

"Hey..."Maria's soothing voice billowed gently around him.

"Hey Pixie..." Michael smiled at her concern.

"You know she didn't mean that, Isabel is just scared, we all are, and she lashed out at you because she knew deep down you were the only one who'd be able to handle it, but she didn't mean it." she allowed him to pull her close to his side and offered him all her understanding.

"I know, it's just really hard right now, for all of us, and I have no idea how to fix this, I just really wish Max were here, he's good at the whole leader thing, me I'm just the muscle."

"Hey you listen to me Michael Guerin..." Maria turned suddenly and cupped his face in her hands, turning him to meet her deteremined gaze, "...YOU are a wonderful, smart, kind, and generous man, who would make a great leader. YOU are not now, nor have you ever been 'just the muscle'...I do you understand me, or will have I have to beat some sense into you."

"Easy their Pixie..." He held up his hands in surrender, and chuckeled at the fire sparkling in her eyes, "Do you have any idea how much I love you."

"Maybe, but I think I need some reminding."

"Well then how about I start with this..." Michael placed a deep loving kiss on her lips and soon the two were lost in the moment. Allowing the peace of their shared bond to ease away the doubts the day had left.

"Ah Hemm..." Alex walked in clearing his thoart, and blushing at the sight he'd unknowingly walked into, "Um...I hate to break this up, but..." He watched with amusement as the pair jumped apart both painted cherry red with embarasement.

"So...where are we at..." Michael asked as he straightened himself still keeping Maria close to his side.

"Not good, Ciyan is checking on Isabel, and Serina seems to have slipped into some type of catatonic state, Tristan remains glued to her side trying to coax her out of it, also I can't get a reading on either Max or Liz..." Alex answered his eyes staring straight back at his brother, "...I can feel the others close, but from what I can tell, Rath, Zan and Ava are in a seperate cell from Xal and Tia, other than that I have nothing else to report." Alex finished his report and took a somber seat next to his brother.

"So what do we do now Michael?" Maria asked.

Michael took a breath and gathered his thoughts trying to find the courage he needed to lead, a small hand gently squeezed his own and suddenly he felt ten feet tall, "We need to regroup, right now we are at our most vulnerable, and I'm not liking the odds that are stacked up against us, without Max and Liz, we aren't a complete unit, but were not defenseless either..." Michael took a moment as he watched Ciyan lead Isabel back into the room, he offered him a smile of gratitude and waited for both of them to be situated before he continued. "...look, I know right now we're tired and cofused and hurt, but I refuse to just role over and die."

"Michael, how can we go up against an entire army?" Isabel meekly questioned, her eyes were painfully tinged with saddness and remorse

"We're not, right now our main objective is to secure our units safety and escape, we leave no man behind..." Michael started to explain, when he was interupted mid sentence as Tristan ran into the room.

"Something's wrong wit Rina?!" he infomed them in a panic and rushed back.

The others were quick to react and moments later the 5 remaining royals were gathered around Serina.

"What's wrong with her?" Isabel cautiously asked her eyes transfixed on the girl in question.

Serina seemed to be in some sort of trance, rocking back and forth, her eyes were an alien shade of black and she was seemed to be mumbling to herself in an alien dialect. As the others stared on, she grew more impatient the words running together till it was one long cry. Then just as Tristan was about to attempt to connect to her, her words fell silent and her eyes slammed shut. Seconds seemed to drag on for hours as the others stood stock still, apprehension knawing at their resolve, Michael was about to speak when Serina's eyes opened and fixed on him.

"Time shall pass with the turning of the wheel.."

"An innocence corrupted, a sacrifice made, a betrayal righted, and a loved one lost..."

"The two born of one shall face their greatest trail, for when one choose the light, the other must follow the darkness."

"Half to the light, Half to the darkness and this shall remain till the final battle is fought."

"When a child lights her way, and a child guides him back only then can two halves once again become one."

As she spoke the last word Serina's eyes rolled back and she fell unconscious into Tristan's awaiting arms.

"What da hell was dat?" Ciyan gasped in shock and by the looks plastered on the others faces he knew he was alone.

"I have no idea..." Michael answered a sinking feeling weighing in the pit of his stomach as he stared at his sister's sleeping form. He wasn't sure what had just happened but something deep inside told him that whatever that was only spelled trouble for them, and he prayed that Max and Liz showed up before it was too late.

**********

The night was still around him, in respect not even a cricket stired, but the silence only drove him further into the pits of despair. It'd been hours since he ran from her room, desperate to put as much space as he could between them. Still the truth he'd found locked behind her chocolate eyes, tore him to shreds, it seemed such a cruel joke, and for the hundredth time in his life Max Evans cursed destinies twisted sense of humor.

"Max..."

Whipping his head around he found himself face to face with the decieving angel herself, "Liz..." he whispered her name with cold steel in his heart. He would not play the fool again, "...come to finish the job yourself, I can turn my back if it would make it easier for you." he spat out with obvious rancor.

Liz flinched at the cruelty dripping from his words, but stood unwavering, she needed to get her point across, "I know I deserve that and more, but you have to understand their was no other choice for me Max."

Max turned around again, sizing her up with great scrutiny, he could sense the honesty in her words, but he also knew there was something she was hiding, "That's where your wrong Liz, there is always another choice, you just chose to betray me and your entire family and what I'm wondering is for what Liz, what could cause you to betray everyone you love?"

Taking a deep breath Liz gathered the strength she would need to come clean and said a silent prayer for his understanding, "Max, there are things you don't know, things that I've kept hidden, even in our previos life, and these are the secrets that I have guarded even in death that have the potential if discovered to rip our family in two, and I couldn't let that happen..." Suddenly brimming with nervous energy Liz started pacing, to many lives hung in the balance of this conversation and his acceptance and right now she wasn't sure if telling him was the best idea.

"It always boils down to secrets...secrets and lies, is that all we are?" Max asked earnestly, his eyes begging for her reassurance.

"No Max that's not all we are..." she replied gently, while taking a seat beside him, "I'm sorry Max, you'll never really know just how sorry I am, I tried not to love you, in that other life, I knew what Serina was planning, and I did nothing to stop it, I wanted to spare you, to spare all of you, but no matter how hard I tried to run every turn always led me back to you..." her voice was barely louder than a whisper, yet in the stillness of the night it boomed like a megaphone. "I know that Serina confessed her part in our deaths to you today, but what you don't know is that though she was careless and misguided, she also saved us from unimaginable pain and suffering, and gave me perhaps the greatest gift ever, a few wonderful years with you and my family."

"Liz I don't understand what your getting at, we could've been happy, avoided all the pain of Khivarr and Ava combined and still be living happily ever after with our family on Antar, how is what befell us any better than what could've been?" Max asked.

She turned away from him, needing the space to clear her thoughts, and her hand found it's way to her abdomen instinctually, "The Prophecy Max, who I was born to be, my families legacy..." Liz scoffed at the thought, 'yeah some great legacy', "...I'm not like the rest of you, my birth has been prophesized for centuries guarded in the text of the holy temple, buried so deep that not even the highest ranking officials within the order knew of it."

"A child shall be born on the cusp of light and darkness, one who shall bring forth an age of great fortune..." Liz repeated the old text mechanically. "And it goes on from there, explaining how I'm going to be this great leader with unimaginable power, but as always there was a catch..." Liz stood suddenly and stared off into the desert night, trying to fight of the tears that were always threatening to fall.

Max sat and watched her, fighting every instinct to jump and pull her into his arms, "Liz...?" he softly called her name hoping to offer what little comfort he could.

The sound of her name from his lips, never ceased to amaze her, how such a simple act could offer so much ease, Liz smiled and heavied a weary sigh, "There was another part to the prophecy, a second born chosen, my twinned soul, my brother. Rath is cursed by destiny much in the same way I am, there has to be a balance, an equal yet opposing force to counter act, and if I became the light then my brother would fall into the darkness. I'd either be forced to kill my own brother or be killed by him..." Unable to fight the tears, Liz fell to her knees and silently sobbed.

And just as suddenly Max understood the depth of her sacrifice, she took on fate and destiny all by herself, hoping to spare the ones she loved any future pain, and Max was at her side in an instance. "Oh god Liz, I had no idea, why didn't you tell me? I could've helped carry some of the weight, but instead I only added on...I'm so sorry baby..." He apologized, pulling her further into his arms.

The warmth of his body pressed up against her was all the homecoming she'd ever need, and suddenly all the fight was pulled out of her, and she was once again the teenager who'd recently moved from California in search of her family. "I'm scared Max, I'm so scared that I will lose everything and there will not be a second chance this time. I can't lose you, or my family, and that's why I've allowed this travesty to continue. I need those three to believe I am the queen they've been waiting for, I need them to focus on me so that Michael and the rest of you can be safe." She wept quietly in his arms, clinging to him with desperate urgency.

He held her and patiently waited for her tears to subside, he'd decided not to push her further, for now he would let her finish what she needed to say.

"There isn't much time..." Liz pulled out of his embrace and fiercely wipped at the tears straggling down her cheeks, "...I am constantly watched, we only have a few more minutes before the warp ends and my guards realize I'm gone and there is still so much you need to know."

"Liz..." He was unsure how to proceed, he only had one question in mind, but was terrified what her answer would be.

The apprehension that cloud his eyes, explained everything, she knew what his next question would be, but she could not answer him that, atleast not now, "Max you must go back to the others, act as if this never happened, and go along with whatever plan you had before our meeting." she knew he was about argue but rushed forward nontheless, "Please Max trust me, look beyond my deception and find the real me when next we meet, I promise this is all for us, I can't sentence my brother to that hell, so please just trust me."

Max could see the fire of determination burning in her eyes and nodded in agreement, with a kiss thier fate was sealed, and with a kiss she was once again gone.

He was left alone, only this time he longed for the silence that only moments ago left him apprehensive, now the night cricked and moaned voicing its dissatisfication, and serving as a taunting reminder of the farce his life had now become.

Evani continued to pace the small confines of the third floor lab, occasionally she would run of few tests and print out the daily progress reports but her mind was focused else where. The slight window of opportunity they'd come to depend on, was rapidly closing and she was still no closer to accomplishing her goals. Her thougts raced as she tried to devise an alterior plan of attack, yet it always fell back to one solution.

"Yo Vani whats the deal?" Andreaty's sudden appearance brought her out of her thoughts.

"We have a problem..." she started to explain but quickly stopped and concentrated on her sister willing her to materialize before her.

"You called?" Ambrosia's gentle voice drifted in as her body came into view.

"...as I was saying we have a problem, I think it is time to fall back on our fail safe." Evani informed as she continued her pacing.

"Why?" Ambrosia asked.

"Our queen is not playing ball, and unfortunately we don't have any more time, we need to move on the General..." Evani watched her siblings eyes widden and continued before they could interupt. "...we always knew this was a possibility, they are both chosen, the female was simply the more desirable choice of the pair, but now we have no other option."

"Vani are you sure? I mean Rath never seemed a wise choice to begin with and now we are pitting them against each other it could end badly for us, especially with both Zan and Alexia together as a united front." Andreaty explained his thoughts falling back to his queen, although he was very aware of her doubts, he figured that between the three of them they'd be able to overpower Alexia.

"Perhaps at one point we might've been able to turn her from the king, but since they bonded we are left with little choice, she will choose him every time..."Ambrosia answered her brother's thoughts, "...but if we pit them against each other it will tear her apart, we can sit back and enjoy the chaos and in the end we align ourselves with the winner, whomever survies will be easy pickings and a very subtable puppet." she smiled sweetly and twirled a blonde curl.

"Exactly..." Evani aggreed.

Andreaty was not so easily convinced, a nagging feeling was turning in the back of his head, they were missing a very important piece of this puzzel and it would definately come back to bite them on the ass, but for now he nodded his aggreement and set off to prepare for the General's awakening.

Once both Andreaty and Ambrosia vanished Evani stood alone in silence, 'This must play out...' she heard whispered in the wind and felt a shiver run across her skin. To many years she'd spent anxiously awaiting this moment, and now when it was so close at hand she could almost taste it, it seemed to constantly evade her. They were born for no other reason than to act as the catalyst to this moment in time, they'd lost their first oppurtunity when Ava foolishly killed Alexia, and had to wait almost a decade for this last chance. 'I will not be denied, my will is as strong as hers and I will have my war, I will watch the ground soaked with the crimson hue of royal blood and take back what should have always been ours.' A feral grin unwrapped itself fiendishly slow across her lips and she half laughed at the scene of destruction that played out in her mind as she whispered her desires with wordless glee.

'Soon...'

Chapter 33

Trans Story Chapter 34 9/18!!!!!

Post by EclecticRoswellian »

Alright all I am finally back, sorry for the delay but I promise to finish this story at all costs, so without further wait here is the next Chapter...Let me know what you think

Chapter 34

Sometimes even the best intentions can be led astray, if tempered with turbulent emotions, it was the reason mortals were so easily manipulated. But it was also these same emotions that made them such formidable opponents, once their hearts were in it, they'd fight up until their dying breath and sometimes even far after that. Andreaty had his doubts, he'd lived to many years among these mortals, humans, Antarians, and other species far too many to name, and always it was the same outcome. No matter how they planned or how perfect the situations were setting themselves up to be, nothing was ever guaranteed, love...hate...loyalty...envy...all these emotions held the final say in the outcome of each attempt, and so far they'd never succeed in their endevours.

"Ambro you sure about dis?" he suddenly asked, causing his sister to take a step back.

A carefree smile brushed itself upon her lips and she merely nodded in response, this was not the time to doubt in their sister, and she knew it. So rather than express her own misgivings about the plan, she tried denying them, even to herself.

He knew his sister, and this attempt to brush aside his concern with a fake smile and a nod was simply her way of dealing, "So, how do we set this plan in motion, Alexia was a willing participant, Rathos will fight us tooth and nail."

"Yes, but where as Alexia was always too intelligent for her own good, Rath is ruled by his emotions..." Ambrosia explained her eyes twinkling with hidden mischief.

Andreaty couldn't help but smile at his sister simple pleasures, out of the three of them she was always the carefree one of the group, yet underneath her plastic smiles she was far more conniving than both him and Evani combined. "So we take that approach then, you know he may not play into our hands with this move, he was always too unpredictable to read in the past."

"Yeah, but this time the group is splintered, and with all the cracks already in place, it wont be too hard to lead him onto his destined path, and she is just the leash we are looking for." she smiled at him finally regaining her confidence. "Plus we have the added bonus of her sketchy mental state to help us out in our endeavors."

"If you say so, now hows about we get some grub and check out our little princess?" Andreaty hooked an arm around his sister's shoulder and gave her a wink.

The pair rapidly vanished from sight, leaving only Ambrosia's giggles to linger on the wind.

********

"Hey..." he whispered dejectedly, while he walked into the room.

"Oh MY GOD MAX..." Isabel cried out and ran to his side almost in hysterics, "...I'm so glad your back..." she threw her arms around him and hugged for dear life, thanking the gods for his safe return.

Max couldn't help but smile at his sister's uncharacteristic emotional outburst, "its okay Izzy, everything’s going to be okay..." Max pushed her gently away from his arms and looked into her eyes, "...I promise Izzy."

The others stood back and allowed the siblings a moment to reconnect, once they watched Isabel nod and the pair hug once more, they knew it was time to get down to business.

"I know all you have a lot of questions, but right now time is of the essence, so I would really like to just get updated on where we stand before we move forward." Max spoke calmly his tone even and to the point, and though the others were dying of curiosity as to where their king had disappeared to, they understandably obeyed.

"We are currently trying to get a lock on both Xal and Tia's location, we have already contacted Ava and Zan and both are eagerly awaiting your orders to strike. I am sorry to inform that I have not been able to connect with Liz or Rath for that matter, but we are quiet certain both are still on base..." Alex dutifully bowed and waited for Max's reply.

"Thank you Alex, right now our main objective is securing the unit, nothing has changed, we follow through with the plan."

"Hold On a minute Max, what about Liz?" Michael asked, clearly disturbed by the lack of her mention.

"Yeah and what about Tess?" Ciyan also threw in, which caused a huge uproar to roll threw the room.

"WHAT?!"

"YOU"VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME...WHO CARES ABOUT THAT HOMICIDAL GERBIL!!!"

"HAVE YOUS LOST YOUR MIND CIY?!"

"ENOUGH!!!" Max roared, quickly silencing his court, "Tess is not our concern, and after what we all saw she is to be considered nothing more than an enemy, understood?"

"But Max she aint da enemy, she's my..."

"Ciyan I have given my order, please do not question me, especially when it concerns Alexia's murderer." Max bit out coldly.

Seeing the fire that burned behind his brother's eyes, was enough to silence any further comment from him, though he wasn't really sure where his feelings for the blonde had sprung from, he couldn't deny the ache in his chest at the thought of leaving her behind. Already his mind was formulating a plan to get her away from the base and the others.

Tristan kept a watchful eye on his 'brother', he knew Ciyan was too stubborn to just back down, he also knew he wouldn't risk going against Max's orders head on. Whatever he was planning would only lead to trouble he was sure of it...

"Yeah I don’t think he's given up that easily either." Maria whispered as she scampered over to her brother's side.

"Yours caught on too, Hahn." Tristan couldn't hide the smile that spread over his lips; he'd missed her so damn much, especially growing up. Serina and Ciyan were his family, but the pixie faced blonde at his side was his blood, his baby sister. Maria continued to ramble on about Tess and her less than high opinion of the girl, while Tristan watched as the others smiled shaking their heads, but to him it was the sweetest sound he'd ever heard. He could still remember the pain he'd felt as he emerged from his pod and was unable to feel her presence in his heart.

Flashback…

Is first glimpse of consciousness, was suffocating, with tiny fists he beat against the pulsating membrane that cocooned him from the harsh world outside. Syrupy goo oozed from the small hand sized tear that offered him his first peak at freedom, and with one final push he was poured onto the cold dank floor.

It only took him seconds to adjust his eyes to this alien terrain, glancing around he saw two more pods still heavy with children. On shaky legs he stumbled over to the first pod, it held a small girl with dark flowing hair, ‘Serina…’ his mind whispered as he placed a hand lovingly on her pod.

He was about to inspect the other vessel when a horrible emptiness ripped through him, causing him to cry out with newborn lungs from the pain. Hunched over he tried to still the rapid beating of his heart but already he knew it’d be pointless, and all the while a single thought raged through his mind.

‘Melenia is gone…’

Alone and broken, the young prince crawled over to the pod that held Serina’s sleeping form. Needing to feel her presence he placed his small dirt caked hand against the glowing surface of her pod and latched on to the dim hum of energy that surrounded her.
Pain like nothing he’d ever experienced before poured over him, enveloping his fragile body in it’s taunting embrace.

And that is how his protector found him, shivering and crying, calling out to a sister that was no longer their.

‘Melenia…’

End Flashback…

“Tris…Tris!?” Maria shook his shoulder concerned by the dark emotions circling around him.

“Huhn…What, oh my bad, I guess I just dazed out on ya.” Tristan pushed away the memory and tried to refocus his attention on the current situation.

Not entirely convinced with his answer, Maria decided to drop it for now, she’d felt the pain linked to that particular memory, and though she wasn’t sure what had occurred to cause him to lose all hope, she could only guess it involved her ‘death’. Linking her arm with his she sent him wave after wave of love and understanding, “Yeah no problem, just don’t make it a habit kay?”

“Hey you two Max’s called a final meeting before we move out.” Michael announced briskly before walking back over to his previous spot at Max’s side.

Taking a deep breath Maria steadied her nerves and prepared herself for battle, “Well let’s not keep his majesty waiting, shall we?” Tristan nodded and the pair headed off together, joining the others for the final meeting.

********

Zan could feel her approaching, it was like warm honey being poured over his soul, and the closer she got the hotter she burned. Quietly he extracted Ava from his side, careful to not wake her, he watched with a smirk as she whimpered and buried herself deeper into the bed and under the covers.

Grabbing his discarded shirt he’d just barely managed to pull it over his head, when she appeared before him.

“Zan…” her voice was barely louder than a whisper, and yet it thundered through him.

Even after everything she was still the most exquisitely beautiful woman he’d ever laid eyes on. She stood before him, in a cream colored slip that barely reached the top of her knees and dipped low in the front in a tear drop neck that showed off her ample cleavage. Her hair poured down her back and cascade over her shoulders, glistening in the pale moonlight that shone from his bared window.

“So yous come to gloat, or for one last fuck.” He bite out coolly.

She couldn’t hide the flinch that his words caused or the sadness she felt at the truth behind his comment. She’d used him in the worst possible of ways, even knowing how he truly loved her; she’d callously betrayed his trust and love. No matter how she tried to justify her actions, nothing would ever absolve her of this one truth.

“I know you have no reason to believe me, or even want to hear me out, but I need to explain certain things to you, and I don’t have much time.” Liz paused giving him a moment to digest her presence, when he nodded and motioned for them to talk in the adjoining room she agreed. She glanced behind him and nearly froze at the sight of a naked and sleeping Ava in his bed.

He’d felt her jealousy and pain, and though it was such a piety thing to feel joy over, it still felt good. “Are we goin or are yous goin to stand der with your mouth open all nite.”

Shaking her head, Liz pushed passed him and stormed out of the room, silently cursing herself for allowing him to see through her so easily.

They stood in silence, each sizing the other up, each battling their own demons…

“So you and Ava huhn…” she commented in spite of her better judgment, and quickly regretted it.

Zan could not believe the nerve of this woman, she’d used him, tossed him aside and basically signed his death warrant, and now she was jealous. “Exactly how is that any of your business?”

“It’s not, I mean I don’t care, look whatever lets just get down to business.” She felt flushed under his scrutiny, but tried to shake it off.

He smirked at her obvious attempts to regain the upper hand, “Yeah whatever sweets, now what’s got that pretty head of yours so twisted?”

“Zan, I know you have every right to hate me, I mean what I did to you I can never take back, but I never wanted to hurt you, if there was any other way, I swear…”

“HOLD UP!” Zan roared, causing her to jump back and waking Ava from her sleep, ‘Aves stay put got it’ he silently ordered which she wisely obeyed before he continued. “You are some piece of work, not hurt me, NOT HURT ME! Liz yous fucking destroyed me and for what, for a piece of ass, to stick to Maxie boy, what could you possibly hope to accomplish with this…WHAT!?”

Through out his tirade Liz held her ground and watched breathless as the energy around him peeked causing streaks of red lightening to dance over his arms. She kept her chin up even as he stormed towards her, pushing her forcefully against the wall and pinning her there with his body.

“How about one last Fuck Princess, you know to remember me by…” he leaned in and licked the shell of her ear, “…Iz know yous like it rough sweets, and I’ll have you screaming my name beggin for more.” Zan could feel how her body reacted to his proximity; he sucked her ear lobe into his mouth and gently nibbled on it, enjoying the breathy moan that escaped her parted lips.

It was a losing battle, for all accounts this man was her king, her mate, and her body could not tell the difference. “Zan…please don’t…” she barely managed to pant out. Luckily, Zan pushed himself away from her, putting much needed distance between them, and giving her the opportunity to regain her composure. She watched as he paced the length of the room, reigning in his anger, she’d fully expected this reaction, but they only had moments left and their was still so much to be said.

“Just listen, as we speak Max and the others are getting ready to bust you and Ava out of here and escape. I’ve arranged transportation, that will take all of you to Roswell, when you get there it is imperative that you all secure the granolith, and set up base at the pod chamber. I will try and give you as much time as possible, but even tapping in to all my power I can only offer a day tops, so you all need to work together and get it done.” Liz turned away from him, unable to meet his questioning glance, “…please just trust me on this, I know I don’t deserve your faith, but I swear all I did, I did to save you all from the pain our destinies so viciously decided for us.”

Zan stood completely floored by her words, he watched as she turned away from him, clearly avoiding his eyes. Her whole entire demeanor changed, she was no longer the powerful alien queen Alexia, now she was the scared broken teenage girl Liz Parker. He knew she was waiting for him to say something, but all words died on his tongue and he simply stared at her trying to process everything she’d just said.

The silence was deafening and she didn’t know what else to say, so instead she apologized once more and started to walk away.

He heard her apologize, he watched as she began to walk away from him, his heart was screaming for him to stop her, to beg her to stay with him, to comfort her, but instead he just stood their and watched as she disappeared around through the open door. The moment she was gone, his world fell apart and so did he. Zan crumpled to the floor and wept, for all he’d lost and for everything he’d soon lose.

“Zan…” Ava crept silently over to his side, concerned with the state he was in, before she could ask what was wrong, he’d latched on to her, burying his face in stomach. Ava was stunned but continued to run her hands through his hair and whisper soothing words to him. She held him till his cries subsided, and then helped him over to the bed and held him till he finally fell asleep.

“Liz…” he whimpered in his sleep, and though it should’ve pained her to hear another woman’s name on his lips, but it didn’t. Instead she felt for him, she felt for all of them, including Liz, this situation was not their fault, and Ava prayed that they all made out alive to see the end of this drama and finally get their happily ever after.
