Title: Unexpected Change

Rating: Adult
Couples: Z/L, M/M, A/I, Av/K, R/Lo, Mx/Sr
Summary: The New York Pod squad goes to Roswell to talk about the summit meeting. Rath, Lonnie, Ava, and Zan aren’t evil but they are rough around the edges. Due to the circumstances of their lives they have to steal to survive. Will new friendships and love help them change? As usual Tess the bitch is up to no good.
A/N: This takes place after future Max like in the show. I borrowed some lines from the show so it’s sorta similar but with a lot of changes.
Chapter 1:
(New York)
Zan, Rath, Lonnie, and Ava came out of the subway station in New York. They walked by a fruit vendor and Zan causes the stand to fall. As the vendor is picking up the fruit Lonnie reaches over to the cash register and takes the money. They continue to walk down the street when they’re stopped by Jay.
Jay smiled at Lonnie. “Hey, what’s up girl?”
“What’s up, man?”
“You looking good.”
“Yeah, she knows it.” Rath said hooking an arm around Lonnie.
“We done talkin’.” Zan said and continued to walk down the street. The others automatically followed.
“Yo, they contacted us again last night. Same invite. What we gonna tell ‘em?” Rath asked looking over at Zan.
“We tell ‘em to pump their brakes. We gotta talk to dem hicks in Rozzy first. We don’ know what’s up wit dem and this shit. What if it’s a setup or somethin’ we ain’t sure yet.”
Rath nodded. “Aight. When we goin’ to Hicksville?”
“We leavin’ soon as we get a ride.”
Rath stopped in front of a blue Trans am. Using his powers he unlocked the door on the driver’s side and turned on the car. Grinning he bent his head to look at them through the passenger side window. “We got a ride.”
They all laughed before climbing in the van.

(West Roswell High)
Liz sat at her desk trying hard to keep her eyes away from Max and her mind on her teacher. He was sitting two rows in front of her, he used to sit next to her. Sighing she turned her attention back to Mrs. Hardy.
“A black hole...that's what's left after a star dies. And that's exactly what happened last week, my friends. The spectacular, stellar, implosion of a red giant, unheard of in the history of astronomy...the first time a post-main sequence star burning in its prime suddenly and without warning violently exploded in a supernova of a hundred million degrees and disappeared, a process that typically takes many thousands of years. What could have accounted for this...remarkable loss?”
Liz looked at Max again. The bell rang signaling the end of the period. Liz got up quickly and caught up to Max outside.
“Hey. Kinda weird about that star, huh? Kinda sad. It just doesn't seem that something burning so bright could just...burn out.” Liz said trying to make conversation.
“But it did.” Max said without even a glance at her. Before she could say anymore he walked off.
Liz held back the tears threatening to fall. With one last look at Max’s retreating back she turned and headed off to her next class.
~~~
(UFO Center)
“Brody.” Max greeted as he walked into the UFO center.
“Max! You’re here! I’ve been dying to tell someone about this all day. Look . . . activity on the East coast. Somewhere near here.” Brody said excitedly.
“New York?” Max said frowning.
“Uh-huh. Someone or something is trying to make contact.” Brody grinned. They heard a beeping noise and Brody looked down at his pager. “Time for dinner.”
“I’m not hungry.”
“Well . . . take a break then.” Brody said waving him off.
“I just got here.”
“GO! Go go go go go!” Brody said shooing him off.
~~~
(Crashdown)
“Make sure you put pepper jack on that Galaxy sub Michael. The dude’s crazy about the pepper jack.” Maria said while she cleaned the counter.
“Yeah, all right.”
“Oh, Max called. There’s a meeting on Saturday night.”
“Can’t. Got some big plans Saturday.”
“Aww. That’s so sweet.” Maria said smiling.
“Sweet? It’s the dirt bike finals.”
“Hello? I’m singing on Saturday at the museum.” Maria said taking the sandwich from Michael.
“Yeah, but I’ve heard you sing before. What’s the big deal?”
~~~
(UFO Center)
“Hey Brody. Galaxy sub hold the mayo.” Maria smiled putting the bag on his desk.
“Thank you.” Brody said a tint of red on his cheeks.
“Is there pepper jack in that sandwich?”
“Uh . . . No there doesn’t appear to be.” Brody said when he unwrapped the sandwich.
“Unbelievable! I cannot believe it!” Maria said angrily.
“It’s all right. It’s just cheese.”
“No. No. It’s not just cheese.”
“But it’s a very small thing.”
“Yes, it is a very small thing. That’s why a person who cannot get cheese right deserves to die!” Maria said waving her arms in the air.
Brody nodded uncomfortably. “Uh, you really take your job seriously.”
“Look, here. It’s on the house.” Maria said giving him back his money.
“At least let me give you a tip.”
“That’s unnecessary but thank you.” Maria took the money Brody handed to her and left.
(On the Road)
“So, who is it we lookin’ for again?” Rath asked.
“Max. Max Evans. He’ supposed to be the otha king. We gotta talk to him and the othas about all dis shit.” Lonnie said from the back seat.
Zan looked up from the rearview mirror at Ava. “You aight back there Aves? You ain’t said a word since we left New York.”
Ava smiled. “I’m good.”
Lonnie put her arm around Ava. “You sure?”
Ava nodded. “Yeah.”
“We getting’ close. We jus’ outside Roshell.” Zan said picking up speed.
“Dog, this shit is only dirt an’ rocks.” Rath said looking out the window.
“Yo, why you think they didn’ tell them hicks from Rozzy about the summit meetin’?” Lonnie said looking at Zan.
“Cause we the only one’s that know there’s anotha set of us out there. ‘Sides they livin’ out here in the middle of nowhere unda a rock.” Zan said smirking.
Zan sped by not noticing the police car parked on the side of the road. The car followed them and flashed its lights signaling for them to pull over.
“Shit. 5-0” Zan said stopping the van.
“Be cool.” Lonnie said to her brother.
“Don’ worry. If anythin’ Ava you can do ya mind shit on ‘im.”
Ava nodded.
Sheriff Valenti got out of his car and walked over to the driver’s side of the door.
“License and registration. Max?” The Sheriff burst into laughter. “Lord have mercy. What’s with the hair and outfits?”
“We was on our way to a party. It’s a . . . kinda . . . a New York theme.” Rath said.
“You look like you’re from another planet. For once. So, where’d you get this car?”
“We uh borrowed it. Sheriff . . . um, Valenti.” Zan answered.
The Sheriff nodded. “Hey, listen. You wanna slow it down a little bit. There’s no need to attract additional attention to yourselves, especially with what we’ve been through lately.”
“Word! No you ain’t lyin’, sir.” Zan said. “Uh, Sheriff, you know in ma house there’s this uh, weird car parked out front.”
“Weird car?”
“Yeah,” Rath said nodding. “You know . . . alien hunter.”
“Yeah, you know felt like we was bein’ watched by someone. So, we was wonderin’ if we could follow you back and yous could check it out.” Zan asked.
“Okay. Tell you what. You follow me and if the coast is clear I’ll wave you off.” Sheriff Valenti nodded.
“Cool! Thanks Sheriff. You the freakin’ man!” Rath grinned.
The Sheriff laughed. “Okay.”
~~~
(Crashdown)
Liz walked over to Max at the last booth. “Um, do you want anything else from the kitchen? Cause it’s gonna close.”
“No thanks.”
Liz sighed. “God, I hate this. We can’t even talk to each other anymore. Before everything long before we kissed . . . we were friends. Why can’t we just go back to that?”
Max shook his head. “We can’t. I . . . can’t.”
Liz watched Max get up. “Ok. I understand that I do. I can respect it. I just. I just don’t want you to hate me.”
Max turned and left without a backwards glance.
~~~
(The Evans House)
“Look at dis place yo.” Rath said looking around at the houses.
“You imagine livin’ here?” Lonnie said looking at Rath.
“No! I think I’d kill myself.”
“Aight. Stop yappin’ We gotta talk ta Max.” Zan said getting out of the car. “Aves, you stay by the car an’ keep a lookout.”
Ava sat on the hood of the car while Zan, Rath, and Lonnie climb in through Max’s window.
“Yo! Look at his gear! Where the fuck he get all this shit, freakin’ Conway’s?”
Lonnie laughed. “Told you, total cornball.”
“Yo, out here they think that’s hip.” Zan said grinning.
“Oh my god! Check this out he works at the UFO museum.” Lonnie said holding up Max’s vest.
“No!” Rath said doubling over in laughter.
“Yo. What you find bro?” Lonnie said looking over Zan’s shoulder at the picture he was holding.
“That his bitch?” Lonnie said looking at the brunette. “Where’d you find it?”
“In his sock drawer.” Zan said. He couldn’t take his eyes off the beautiful brunette. He turned the picture over.
“To Max. I’ll always love you. Liz.” Lonnie read aloud.
“Liz.” Zan said a half smile on his face.
Lonnie looked at the goofy smile on her brother’s face. “Yo, you into her?”
Zan shrugged. “I’d do her.”
Lonnie shook her head. “Well, you betta not step on nobody’s toes.”
Zan smirked and put the picture away in his pocket. “I ain’t gonna step on nobody’s toes. If I see her we can jus talk or somethin’.”
“Yo! Look at this!” Rath said from behind them.
Zan and Lonnie turned around to see Rath wearing Max’s giant alien mask. “Well, it’s about time you showin’ what yous really look like.” Lonnie said.
Zan laughed. “Yo, we supposed ta be-“ He stopped. “Somebody’s comin’.”
Rath dived to the floor and hid next to the bed.
“We can still see ya giant alien head dumbass!” Lonnie said pulling off his mask and throwing it inside the closet. At that moment Phillip walked into Max’s room.
“Max? Izzie?”
“Hey . . .dad.” Lonnie smiled forcefully.
“Hey.” Zan said.
Phillip raised his eyebrows at their clothes and hair. “What happened to you? You guys look like some . . . rappers on TV. Like that uh, Queen Laisha and MC Ham.”
Lonnie snorted. “It’s Queen Latifah. And nobody be listenin’ to MC Hammer no more.”
Zan laughed.
Phillip looked at their arms. “Please tell me those are not tattoos I’m seeing.”
“Chill pops. It’s Henna. It’ll wash off.” Zan chuckled. “Ok. No, no . . . you know what? I’ll tell ya the truth. We ain’t really Max and Isabel.”
“You’re not?”
Zan shook his head. “Nah, I’m . . . Romeo and she’s my sister. See, school’s doin’ some kinda rock ‘n’ roll version of Romeo and Juliet and uh,-”
“And my son and daughter have leading parts? That’s great guys! Oh, the smells of the grease paint. The roar of the crowd. I took theatre too. I was Puck, my senior year.”
Lonnie and Zan tried to hold in their laughter. “Totally epic, dad.” Lonnie nodded.
“Well, I’m proud of you guys. Especially you Max it’s nice to see you happier these days. I’m glad the therapy’s working. And you don’t know how good it feels to see you two talking again. I was going to suggest a joint session for the two of you.”
“Uh, sure pops. Whateva you say.” Zan said sarcastically.
“Wow, Max. You guys are really getting into these characters.” Phillip said happily before he walked out the door.
Rath came out from hiding. “Yo, they seein’ a shrink? That’s ma wack.”
“And we thought we had problems.” Lonnie said shaking her head.
Zan took Liz’s picture out of his pocket. “Liz.” He grinned.
At the end of the day faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don't really expect it. It's like one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And it's not so important happy ever after, just that it's happy right now. See once in a while, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you, and once in a while people may even take your breath away
I know. I know. Another story, but I've been thinking about this for a while and needed to write it. I've got a lot of it done so I'm posting another part. I'll probably update daily for a while. Hope you guys enjoy it!
Chapter 2:
(West Roswell High)
Liz walked slowly to her locker her eyes down cast. She really didn’t want to be at school at the moment. She really didn’t want to be anywhere. She couldn’t stand the way Max looked at her anymore. She was tired of trying to get him to talk to her, or smile at her. She knew it was all for the best. When you’re in love with someone you’re willing to make sacrifices to save them. Even if your heart was breaking because of it. Liz started to walk faster to her locker before the warning bell rang. As soon as she got to her locker she felt it. The tingling on her spine and automatic heat that only came when Max was near. She was surprised to be feeling it at all. For the past two weeks after Max caught her in bed with Kyle she hadn’t had that feeling. Liz forced herself to open her locker and not look for him. If she didn’t look into those hurt eyes then she wouldn’t be tempted to forget everything and tell him she hadn’t slept with Kyle.
“Waz really good cherry.” She heard a voice say behind her.
Liz turned. “Excuse me? Are . . . oh, my god. Max? What’s with your hair?”
“Hey, sweets.” Zan said grinning. She was even more beautiful in person than the picture.
“Max . . . what’s with you today?” Liz said swallowing hard. Max had never looked at her the way he was now. Like if he had a chance he’d take her right there in the school hallway.
Zan reached out and ran his fingers through her brown silky hair then stroked her cheek. Liz’s heart was hammering in her chest, she couldn’t seem to move. When he leaned in and started placing small kisses along her jaw Liz came back to her senses.
“No, Max. We’re not together. I slept with Kyle remember.” Liz pulled away from him and started to walk off.
Zan smirked and grabbed her arm bringing her back to him. Before she could protest he slammed his mouth onto hers. She tried to fight him at first but soon gave in wrapping her arms around his neck. God, it felt good to kiss him again. Liz ignored the little niggling in her mind that told her Max didn’t kiss with such confidence and demand. She ignored the fact that she knew Max didn’t have a tongue ring but could clearly feel the metal ball playing with her tongue.
Zan had never enjoyed kissing someone more than he did Liz. She had the sweetest tasting mouth in the world. Her soft lips felt so good against his and he never wanted to stop. A sudden image of him with long hair flashed before him. Then another of him in preppy clothes dancing and laughing with Liz. Image after image appeared in his mind until he had to pull back. He looked down at Liz and a wave of desire went through him when he saw her pink cheeks and red swollen lips. Liz stepped back from him.
“I-um, I gotta go to class.” Liz said breathlessly.
Zan watched her walk away admiring the sway of her cute behind. “Epic.” Zan grinned.
(Saturday Night at the UFO Center)
“So, I think that the signal Brody tracked could be connected to the star somehow and-“
“You called us all together here for this emergency meeting to talk about a star that croaked? Michael said cutting Max off.
“I think it could mean something. It’s been . . . haunting me.”
“I cancelled my performance Max.” Maria said irritated.
“I think we should be ready for the next challenge.” Max said looking at all of them.
Liz felt that tingling in her spine again. She didn’t understand why she’d feel it if Max was standing right in front of her. It usually only happened when Max was in her vicinity but not where she could see him.
Rath, Ava, Lonnie, and Zan listened from behind a grating.
“Yo, he look jus’ like ya bro.” Lonnie whispered.
“How can ya say that Lon? What I eva do to you that yous gotta compare me to dat cornball?”
Lonnie grinned. “Sorry. You right. This one got a huge stick up his ass.”
“I can’t believe they told all dem humans. It’s like a fuckin’ town meetin’ down there.” Rath said looking at them distrusting.
“Hey sorry guys. Sorry, I’m late,” Alex said from behind them. He burst into laughter when he saw their clothes. “Don't remember it saying anything about costumes on the invitation. Oh. But it's too late for Halloween, and it's too early for Mardi Gras, so what's goin' on? Are we like goin' on the Ricki Lake show or something?”
Alex looks through the grating and notices the real Max, Michael, Isabel, and Tess. Automatically he knows something isn’t right. “Scratch that question. Uh, who needs a holiday to dress up, right? Anyway . . .”
Alex quickly goes down the stares before they could stop him.
“You’re late Alex.” Max said when he spotted Alex.
“Uh, Um, uh.” Alex points to the stairs at a loss for words.
Zan, Rath, Lonnie, and Ava come out of hiding and stand at the top of the steps.
“Hey, Yo. Up, here.” Zan called.
“Now this is freaky.” Maria says raising her eyebrow at them.
Liz lets out a small gasp when she sees Zan. She looked from Max to Zan and put two and two together. She hadn’t kissed Max yesterday. It had been this double.
“Who are you?” Max asked looking up at them.
Zan smirked. “We’re you.”
“I . . . I don’t understand.” Isabel said not taking her eyes away from Lonnie.
“They’re shape-shifters.” Michael said looking at Rath.
“Aight. I know ya must be buggin’ right now. I’d be buggin too if I was you.” Lonnie said.
“How could this be?” Isabel asked.
“Eight. Eight. There were eight pods originally.” Michael answered.
“You know ‘bout that?” Zan said surprised.
“Yeah, I . . . we just found out recently, so I just . . .didn’t know you’d look like us.”
“All we know is that there were eight originally. We never knew what happened to the other four.” Max said staring at Zan.
“They went to New York.” Zan narrowed his eyes at Max.
“New York?” Max questioned.
“The Big Apple. Center of the universe. Amazin’ Pizza.” Rath smirked.
“That’s incredible.” Liz spoke for the first time.
Zan’s eyes quickly zeroed in on her. He gave her a cute half-smile. “How you doin’ sweets? Class go aight?”
Liz blushed looking away from him.
Zan grinned before turning his attention back on the others. “Zan.” He said pointing to himself.
“I’m Max.”
“Lonnie.”
“Isabel.”
“I’m Ava.”
“Tess.”
“This is Michael, and these are our friends: Alex, Maria, and Liz.” Max said pointing to the rest.
“Uh, we’ve um, we’ve met.” Liz said glancing at Zan.
Zan grinned wickedly at her. “Best welcome ta Roshell present I’ve eva had.”
Liz blushed again.
“Aight, I need to talk to ya.” Zan said taking his eyes away from Liz and looking at Max.
(Storage Room)
Zan and Max walked into another room were they could speak more privately. Zan couldn’t help sizing Max up and wondering what Liz saw in him. Max did the same.
“We’ve been contacted.” Zan said cutting to the chase. “It seems some peeps in da hood wanna hook up wit us an’ have a sit down.”
“The . . . the hood?”
“Our star system. Home. Us . . . the rulin’ families of the five planets . . . they wanna have this summit meetin’. Now, I know they up to somthin’ an’ I kinda got this feelin’ that it’s a setup. I waz supposed ta go an represent our planet. I still haven’t given ‘em an answer cause I wanted ta kick it up wit ya four first. Ta hear what ya think.”
“Why did they contact you and not us?”
“Cause they found us first.”
(UFO Center with the others)
“So, why did they send two sets?” Michael asked Rath.
“Well, they made one batch and din get it quite right so they made anotha.”
“So, you guys are like, defective.”
“Actually, ain’t nobody defective. They jus sent a set more alien than anotha. You guys are more human than us. We was sent at a time of war so they sent two of us for insurance.” Rath said crossing his arms over his chest defensively.
(Storage Room)
“So, do you think we should both go and find out what’s going on?” Max asked Zan.
Zan shook his head. “If we both show up and it’s a setup they got both kings right were they want ‘em.”
(Corner of the room)
Lonnie and Isabel sat at the far corner of the room. Isabel looked at Lonnie’s piercings and tattoos.
“So . . . Lonnie. Is that short for Vilondra?”
Lonnie nodded. “You know about Vilondra?”
I’ve um, I’ve heard some things.” Isabel said nervously.
“What do you know?” Lonnie asked.
“What do you know?” Isabel answered.
Lonnie shrugged. “I know she ain’t really betray her family. Kivar did his mind mumbo jumbo on her ta get her to work on his side. Eventually she learned ta fight it and Kivar finding her useless zapped her along wit Zan, Rath, and Ava.”
Isabel grabbed Lonnie’s hand. “Are you positive? Are you one hundred percent positive that’s what happened?”
Lonnie nodded. “Yeah. That’s what went down.”
Isabel sighed. “Oh my god. You have no idea how happy that makes me.”
Lonnie shrugged. “When I talked to my bro about it he let me know. He knew I would neva betray ‘im like dat. What did Max tell you?”
Isabel looked away guiltily. “I couldn’t tell him. I was afraid and-“
“Don’t worry. We cool. Jus let ‘im know when you ready.”
Isabel smiled.
“Ladies . . . uh, Frosty beverage?” Alex asked holding up three cups.
Isabel took a cup. “Thanks Alex.” She said smiling.
Lonnie gave Alex a cold stare. They never trusted humans.
“It’s okay.” Isabel said handing her a cup. Isabel smiled slightly looked like she had competition on being the Ice Princess.
Lonnie took the cup from Isabel and drank. “Thanks.”
(Storage Room)
“I don’t even know what this war is about.” Max said frustrated.
“We know it's about us...the original royal four. Some kind of revolution happened, and they was all killed and sent to earth to be reborn. Ever since then, the hood's been a war zone.” Zan crossed his arms over his chest. “An’ now they sayin’ they want peace. It sounds like a load of bullshit ta me. All this probably got to do wit the granilith.”
Max looked at him surprised. “You know about that?”
Zan nodded. “Yeah. Yous was sent wit it to keep it safe. That’s why ya landed in Rozzy. There’s ma places to hide it.”
“What’s the reason they sent you guys to New York?”
Zan’s face darkened. “It’s a long story. Ain’t gettin’ into it.”
Max nodded. “So this summit meeting is most likely about the granilith?”
Zan nodded.
“But you don’t want to go.” It wasn’t a question.
Zan shook his head. “Nah. I don’t give a shit about none of ‘em.”
Max nodded. “So, why don’t I go with Rath, Lonnie, and Ava? I mean they want to see four of us right?”
“Yeah, but what if it’s a trap or somethin’?”
“We’ll keep in touch. If anything happens we’ll contact you guys here and you can help.”
Zan nodded thoughtfully. “Aight. I’ll talk to Rath, Lonnie and Aves see what they think.”
Max nodded. “I’ll do the same.”
(One side of the room)
Max stands in a corner with Isabel, Michael, and Tess.
“Well, here we are.” Max said.
“And there we are.” Isabel looked over at the far corner of the room to their doubles.
“I thought I’d seen everything.” Michael said shaking his head.
“Look, in New York there’s this summit meeting thing. Zan thinks it’s some sort of setup and doesn’t want to go. I told him I would with Rath, Lonnie, and Ava.”
“What, we’re not invited?” Michael asked a little hurt.
“You guys need to stay here and protect the rest. Rath, Lonnie, and Ava know New York. Besides, if it is a setup I don’t want you guys there.”
~~~
(Other side of the room)
Zan stood with Rath, Ava, and Lonnie having a similar discussion.
“So, Max volunteered ta go wit us to this summit meetin’?” Rath asked raising his eyebrow.
Zan nodded. “Yeah. You, Lonnie, and Ava.”
“Do I really have ta go ta dis shit?” Ava asked.
Zan looked down at her. “Nah. If yous don’ wanna go ain’t nobaody gonna force you.”
“I don’t want to.”
“Aight. Are you guys cool wit going to dis shit?” Zan asked Rath and Lonnie.
They shrugged. “Whateva. I don’ mind goin’.” Rath said.
“Me eitha.”
Zan nodded. “Cool.”

(Storage closet)
“All right chica. What just happened out there with Zan?” Maria asked Liz as soon as she closed the door to the small closet.
Liz looked away. “Nothing.”
Maria crossed her arms over her chest. “Come on Liz. Look who you’re talking to.”
Liz sighed. “Okay, well, yesterday, Zan kissed me.”
Maria’s eyes widened. “WHAT!”
“Shhh. Maria!”
“Oh my god! You kissed Zan and you spent two whole days without telling me this.” Maria looked at Liz hurt. “What happened to us Liz? We used to tell each other everything. I feel like I don’t know you anymore.”
“Oh, Maria. I just. Okay, his thing kind of happened with Kyle, but it didn't really happen, and I can't tell Max what I didn't do. But I can't tell you what I didn't do either, so don't ask me to explain it, ok? But...the point is, I just feel really stupid being here.” Liz said quickly.
“Do you realize what you just said makes absolutely no sense?”
Sighing Liz nodded. “Come on.” They walked back outside.

(UFO room)
“How long have I been asleep?” Alex asked.
Max looked down at his watch. “It’s seven thirty.”
They all looked at each other when they heard the front door open.
”In the morning?” Tess asked.
“I-it’s my boss. Hide.” Max said but it was too late.
“What the hell is this?” Brody asked looking at them.
“Morning.” Max said weakly.
“What? Is there a party going on? Funny I wasn't invited, seeing how it's my building. And who are you?” Brody said looking at the duplicates.
“Uh, Brody this is, um, my twin brother bob.” Michael said patting Rath on the back.
“I didn’t know you had a brother.” Brody said frowning.
“I live in New York.” Rath smirked.
“Well, that explains the hair. Now can you explain what you’re all doing here?”
Liz nudged at Maria giving her a pointed look towards Brody. Maria taking the hint walked up to Brody a big smile on her face.
“Hi.” She said cheerily.
“Hi.” Brody looked at her surprised.
“Um, you know how you asked about lunch?”
“Uh-huh.” Brody nodded.
“Well, how do you feel about a little breakfast?” Maria asked coyly.
“Stay as long as you like.” Brody said to them without taking his eyes off Maria.
Maria smiled and followed Brody out the front door.
Rath saw the look on Michael’s face. “You want me ta kill ‘im for ya?”
Michael stared after them his jaw set. “I’ll get back to you on that.”
Chapter 2:
(West Roswell High)
Liz walked slowly to her locker her eyes down cast. She really didn’t want to be at school at the moment. She really didn’t want to be anywhere. She couldn’t stand the way Max looked at her anymore. She was tired of trying to get him to talk to her, or smile at her. She knew it was all for the best. When you’re in love with someone you’re willing to make sacrifices to save them. Even if your heart was breaking because of it. Liz started to walk faster to her locker before the warning bell rang. As soon as she got to her locker she felt it. The tingling on her spine and automatic heat that only came when Max was near. She was surprised to be feeling it at all. For the past two weeks after Max caught her in bed with Kyle she hadn’t had that feeling. Liz forced herself to open her locker and not look for him. If she didn’t look into those hurt eyes then she wouldn’t be tempted to forget everything and tell him she hadn’t slept with Kyle.
“Waz really good cherry.” She heard a voice say behind her.
Liz turned. “Excuse me? Are . . . oh, my god. Max? What’s with your hair?”
“Hey, sweets.” Zan said grinning. She was even more beautiful in person than the picture.
“Max . . . what’s with you today?” Liz said swallowing hard. Max had never looked at her the way he was now. Like if he had a chance he’d take her right there in the school hallway.
Zan reached out and ran his fingers through her brown silky hair then stroked her cheek. Liz’s heart was hammering in her chest, she couldn’t seem to move. When he leaned in and started placing small kisses along her jaw Liz came back to her senses.
“No, Max. We’re not together. I slept with Kyle remember.” Liz pulled away from him and started to walk off.
Zan smirked and grabbed her arm bringing her back to him. Before she could protest he slammed his mouth onto hers. She tried to fight him at first but soon gave in wrapping her arms around his neck. God, it felt good to kiss him again. Liz ignored the little niggling in her mind that told her Max didn’t kiss with such confidence and demand. She ignored the fact that she knew Max didn’t have a tongue ring but could clearly feel the metal ball playing with her tongue.
Zan had never enjoyed kissing someone more than he did Liz. She had the sweetest tasting mouth in the world. Her soft lips felt so good against his and he never wanted to stop. A sudden image of him with long hair flashed before him. Then another of him in preppy clothes dancing and laughing with Liz. Image after image appeared in his mind until he had to pull back. He looked down at Liz and a wave of desire went through him when he saw her pink cheeks and red swollen lips. Liz stepped back from him.
“I-um, I gotta go to class.” Liz said breathlessly.
Zan watched her walk away admiring the sway of her cute behind. “Epic.” Zan grinned.

(Saturday Night at the UFO Center)
“So, I think that the signal Brody tracked could be connected to the star somehow and-“
“You called us all together here for this emergency meeting to talk about a star that croaked? Michael said cutting Max off.
“I think it could mean something. It’s been . . . haunting me.”
“I cancelled my performance Max.” Maria said irritated.
“I think we should be ready for the next challenge.” Max said looking at all of them.
Liz felt that tingling in her spine again. She didn’t understand why she’d feel it if Max was standing right in front of her. It usually only happened when Max was in her vicinity but not where she could see him.
Rath, Ava, Lonnie, and Zan listened from behind a grating.
“Yo, he look jus’ like ya bro.” Lonnie whispered.
“How can ya say that Lon? What I eva do to you that yous gotta compare me to dat cornball?”
Lonnie grinned. “Sorry. You right. This one got a huge stick up his ass.”
“I can’t believe they told all dem humans. It’s like a fuckin’ town meetin’ down there.” Rath said looking at them distrusting.
“Hey sorry guys. Sorry, I’m late,” Alex said from behind them. He burst into laughter when he saw their clothes. “Don't remember it saying anything about costumes on the invitation. Oh. But it's too late for Halloween, and it's too early for Mardi Gras, so what's goin' on? Are we like goin' on the Ricki Lake show or something?”
Alex looks through the grating and notices the real Max, Michael, Isabel, and Tess. Automatically he knows something isn’t right. “Scratch that question. Uh, who needs a holiday to dress up, right? Anyway . . .”
Alex quickly goes down the stares before they could stop him.
“You’re late Alex.” Max said when he spotted Alex.
“Uh, Um, uh.” Alex points to the stairs at a loss for words.
Zan, Rath, Lonnie, and Ava come out of hiding and stand at the top of the steps.
“Hey, Yo. Up, here.” Zan called.
“Now this is freaky.” Maria says raising her eyebrow at them.
Liz lets out a small gasp when she sees Zan. She looked from Max to Zan and put two and two together. She hadn’t kissed Max yesterday. It had been this double.
“Who are you?” Max asked looking up at them.
Zan smirked. “We’re you.”
“I . . . I don’t understand.” Isabel said not taking her eyes away from Lonnie.

At the end of the day faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don't really expect it. It's like one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And it's not so important happy ever after, just that it's happy right now. See once in a while, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you, and once in a while people may even take your breath away

Chapter 3:
Liz seeing as Alex had fallen back asleep and Maria had gone off to have breakfast with Brody passed by them and to the front door. Sighing with relief she opened the front door thinking she was free. Her relief was short lived though when she heard a voice behind her.
“Where you off to in such a hurry sweets?”
Liz closed her eyes at the sound of his husky voice. A voice so much like Max’s but different. She turned around and came face to face with Max’s
duplicate. It was so weird to see this punked out version of him with a smirk on his face, a look that Liz had never seen on Max. Liz noted that it worked for him though. His hair was longer than Max’s and he kept it spiked up in different directions. She noticed some of the spikes where colored blue and others were green. His sideburns were long and nicely shaped going down to connect with the hair on his chin. His right eyebrow was pierced along with his tongue and chin, and had a thick silver chain around his neck. He had on a hunter green and black cargo vest with a black hoody over a tight black sleeveless t-shirt. Liz couldn’t stop her eyes from roaming over his well muscled tattooed arms. He had an arm band on his left arm and the four square on the right. He sported a spiked wristband and thumb ring on his left hand. His hunter green baggy cargo pants and steeled toed boots completed his look.
“I’m um, I’m going home.” Liz said looking away from him when she caught herself checking him out.
“Where you live? I’ll walk wit you if ya want.”
Liz looked into his face. God he looked so much like Max. If she closed her eyes and listened to his husky voice she could almost pretend it was Max.
“What do ya say cherry? Want me ta walk ya?”
Liz nodded. Unable to help herself.
Zan walked over to her and held the door open. He grinned down at her and she smiled back and walked out. Zan once again looked down at the sway of her hips. They crossed the street to the Crashdown and Zan couldn’t stop the snort of laughter when he saw it.
“What?” Liz said smiling slightly.
“That’s so cornball.” Zan motioned to the restaurant. “Even worse than that stupid museum Max be workin’ in.”
“Hey! My parents own that cornball restaurant! It’s actually very cozy and creative.” Liz said indignantly.
Zan laughed, raising his hands in surrender. “Aight. Aight. Put the claws away cherry.”
Liz smiled shaking her head it felt good to laugh again, to be happy if only for a little while. She walked towards the back where the steps to her balcony were. “Okay. Well, this is me.”
Zan nodded looking up towards her balcony. “So, now that I walked ya to ya room I should get automatic invite to ya crib.”
Liz snorted. “And why is that?”
“Cause I protected ya from all the crazies in Rozzy.” Zan said seriously.
Liz laughed. “Trust me there aren’t many. Present company included.”
Zan raised his pierced eyebrow at her. “You callin’ me crazy?”
Liz shrugged one shoulder. “You said it not me.”
Zan held his tongue so he wouldn’t say what came to mind. She was too cherry to hear what he was thinking, though the image of him spanking her didn’t leave his mind.
Zan smirked. “Aight. I gotta get back.”
Liz nodded smiling.
Before she went up the ladder Zan pulled her against him and gave her a small sweet kiss. Liz pulled away not looking at him and climbed the ladder.

“Aight so what we doin’?” Rath said once Zan returned.
“I’m going to the summit with you guys.” Max said
“Well, Aves ain’t goin’.” Lonnie said glancing at her brother who had a small smile on his face.
“I’ll go.” Tess volunteered and stood close to Max. Though Rath couldn’t help but notice the looks she was giving his king.
“All right well it’s settled. Rath, Lonnie, Tess, and I will go to this meeting and Zan, Ava, Isabel, and Michael, will stay here.” Max said.
Everyone nodded in agreement. “Okay. Well, while we’re gone Zan and Ava can stay at Michael’s.”
“That’s cool.” Zan agreed.
“We should head to New York in a couple of hours and get all this over with.”
They all got up and walked out the front door. “Yo, I’m ma hungry.” Rath complained.
“Me too.” Michael said trying his best not to look through the glass at Maria and Brody.
“Yo you two hungry?” Zan asked Ava and Lonnie.
Lonnie nodded but Ava shook her head. “Aight. Lons go eat wit dem. Let’s go for a walk Aves.” Zan said putting his arm around Ava and walking down the street.

(Roswell Park)
They sat down on a park bench with Ava leaning her head on his shoulder. Zan was contemplating a way to tell her what he felt. He’d always taken care of her and though they lost their virginities to each other when they were fourteen Zan could never bring himself to love her like Ava wanted. He always felt like there was someone waiting for him, someone he was meant to be with.
“Yous found ‘er right? The bitch you was waitin’ for.” Ava said after a while.
Zan looked down at her surprised. “What?”
“That Liz chick. She the one yous been waitin for.”
Zan shrugged. “She’s ma dupe’s bitch.”
“But ya still have feelins fa her. It’s aight. We cool. I always knew yous was waitin’ fa someone else.”
Zan hugged her tightly. “Yous ma bitch Aves.”
Ava smiled. “Guess I’ma have to find maself something ta do while we here.”
Zan grinned. “Or someone.”
Ava punched him on the shoulder. “Shut the fuck up.”
Zan laughed. “Come on. We gotta see Rath and Lonnie off.”

(In Liz’s room)
Liz looked up when she heared a knock on the window. Her heart started hammering in her chest thinking Zan came back but to her surprise Max was standing outside. Liz opened the window letting him in.
“Hi.” Liz said biting her lip. She hoped he couldn’t see the guilt she had for kissing Zan.
“You said...you wanted to be friends...and I thought about it. And...I realized that...that I can't be friends with you because...I'm still hanging on...to you. To what we had. So...I decided to make a clean break. Here.”
Max handed Liz a pocket knife with their names encrypted on it.
Liz swallowed hard. “Max, this is yours. I gave it to you last Christmas.”
“I'm giving it back. I'm...I'm going to New York with Rath and Lonnie and...and Tess...to the summit.”
Liz nodded trying to keep her tears inside until he left. “Max...um...when...when you're at the summit, the granilith, ok? It's powerful, and it could be really dangerous if the wrong people get their hands on it.”
Max looked at her suspiciously. “What are you talking about? How do you know anything about the granilith?”
Liz looked at him sadly. “Oh...I can't tell you. But I just...I know, and...please, Max. You have to trust me.”
“I guess that's the problem, Liz.” Max said before climbing back out the window and down the ladder.
Liz looked down at the knife and felt hot tears fall down her face. She flung the knife as hard as she could against the wall before lying on her bed.

“Yo, be careful wit dem aight I don’t want yous getting hurt.” Zan said hugging Lonnie. Ava came up behind him and hugged her tightly afterwards.
Lonnie smirked pulling away from Ava. “Come on bro, you know I can take care a myself.”
Zan shook his head smiling. “Yeah, yeah. Get in the car.”
Zan went up to Rath and gave him their usual handshake. “I’m countin’ on ya to protect ma sis.”
Rath nodded. “I got this duke.”
When Ava hugged Rath he whispered something in her ear before pulling away. Ava looked at him questioningly but nodded.
Zan waited for Michael and Isabel to say their goodbyes. When he was done they gave each other a similar look that clearly said protect my family. If anything went wrong they would be the first to call. Zan looked down at the Roswell’s version of Ava. He didn’t like the vibes he was getting from her. She smiled almost flirtatiously at him before getting in the car.
They watched them drive off until the car disappeared. Zan looked over at the Crashdown a weird feeling in his chest. “Yo, I’ll catch ya lata.”
Ava nodded and watched him run towards the back of the Crashdown.

(Liz’s room)
Liz had her face buried in her pillow; the tears didn’t seem to want to stop. She couldn’t believe he’d given it back, it had taken her long hours at the Crashdown to pay for that pocket knife and he’d given it back. He didn’t trust her anymore, not that she blamed him. She’d betrayed him in the worst possible way even if it was for the good of the world. Liz felt a tingling in her spine and wondered if Max had come back. She lifted her face from her pillow and looked up to see Zan tapping on her window. Quickly wiping the tears from her face Liz stood up. Zan waved his hand opening the window and climbed in.
“Sup cherry.” Zan said looking at her intently.
“Nothing. What’s up with you?” Liz said giving him a weak smile.
Zan smirked. “Don’t bullshit me sweets. I can feel somethin’ wrong wit you.”
Liz looked away. Zan pulled out the chair from her desk and sat backwards on it. “Tell me.”
Liz sat at the edge of her bed contemplating whether she should let him know or not. It wasn’t like she was telling Max and she really needed to let everything she’d been feeling out. Liz glanced at Zan wondering if she could trust him they’d just met. Mind you he’d kissed her twice but that didn’t mean anything. He most likely had the same destiny Max had. God, she hated that word. Liz looked at him again. Could it really be that bad?
“I might as well start from the beginning,” Liz started. “A year ago . . . I died. I was shot at the Crashdown by this guy that was arguing about money or something-“
“Where they at?” Zan said through clenched teeth. “I’ma fuckin’ kill ‘em.”
Liz shook her head. “I don’t know they got away. Doesn’t matter . . . anyway I was shot and Max healed me. After that my entire life changed. We’d had run-in’s with the FBI, Max was captured and tortured by the special unit, we fought skins. I lied to my parents and jumped off bridges for him. I would do anything for him, even . . . even get him to hate me if it meant saving him and the rest of them.”
Zan pushed down the foreign feeling of jealousy down. “Wat you mean hate ya?”
Liz swallowed hard. “A couple of weeks ago Max came to me and told me I had to get him to fall out of love with me.”
Zan raised his pierced eyebrow at her. “Aight, ya lost me at a couple a weeks ago.”
Liz sighed. “Max came back from the future to get me to fall out of love with him.”
A sudden image of the long haired version of him came to Zan’s mind. “Ohhh,” Zan nodded in understanding. “Yo, an all this time I thought you an ma dupe was like role playin’ or somethin’. Maybe ya had a thing fa leather an long hair.”
Liz looked at him shocked. “How did you know-?”
“Saw it. When I kissed you at ya school.”
Liz’s eyes widened. “You got . . . flashes?”
Zan shrugged. “If that’s what you wanna call ‘em.”
“Wh-but I didn’t get any from you.”
Zan smirked. “That’s cause I keep ta myself. Aigh’t so continue.”
Liz swallowed the surprise at finding out Zan had gotten flashes from her. “Well, I needed to get Max to fall out of love with me and fall in love with Tess. His destiny,” she said bitterly. “So, I tried everything I could but he kept coming back until . . . until he caught me sleeping with Kyle.”
Zan narrowed his eyes at her and stood up walking over and pulling her to her feet. Liz just stared at him tensed; her small hands were stiff in his much larger ones. He leaned in close to her face and closed his eyes. Liz though he was going to kiss her again but to her surprise he just took in a deep breath, inhaling her scent. She felt a tingling in her palm and gasped when gold swirling light surrounded their connected hands. Zan pulled away and took a seat back where he was.
“W-what did you do?”
Zan shrugged. “I waz sensing you ta see if what yous said was true. Which it ain’t cause I can smell yous still ain’t never been touched before.”
“And that light?”
“That’s ya aura cherry. You is more special than you think.”
Liz bit her lip sitting back down on the bed. She could still feel the warmth of his hands in hers. “Doesn’t matter whether I slept with him or not. All that matters is that Max believed it.”
“Aight so lemme get this straight. Yous pretended to do the beast wit two backs wit this Kyle. Max found out an he believed ya? Zan asked raising his eyebrow.
Liz shrugged. “Who wouldn’t? He saw me with Kyle in bed.”
Zan smirked. “I wouldn’t. If yous woulda done all that shit fa me, jumped off bridges and all dat, I don care how many times ya told me ya fucked Kyle I wouldn’t a believed ya.”
“Yeah, well. Max isn’t as determined as you are. He, he came over today. I had asked if we could just be friends at least but,” Liz shook her head. “he said he couldn’t. He gave me back this really special present I had given him last Christmas.”
Zan stood up and sat next to her on the bed. “Is that why you waz cryin’?” He asked softly.
Liz gave him a small half smile. “Yeah. It just hurts you know? I love him so much and I have to sit back and watch while he falls in love with someone else.”
“I know exactly what ya mean.” Zan muttered under his breath.
Zan reached out and stroked her cheek, wiping away invisible tears. “Don’ cry anymore cherry.” He murmured.
He pushed down the urge to kiss her. He told Lonnie he wasn’t going to step on anybody’s toes and he planned to keep it that way. Besides if he kissed her he was positive the only person in her mind would be Max Evans.
“Kay.” Liz whispered.
Zan stood up. “Now that we taken care of ya problem how bout ya help me wit mine.”
Liz frowned. “Okay, what’s your problem?”
“Well, I kinda been on da road fa like two days an my stomach’s startin’ ta eat itself. Now you told ma ya parents own a restaurant an’ ya haven’t even asked me if I was hungry. Wat if I passed out right here on ya floor? I could sue ya an pretty soon be the owner of ya restaurant. ‘Course I’ma change it completely so it wouldn be so cornball but-“
Liz burst into laughter. “You’re asking me to feed you and you make fun of my restaurant?”
Zan grinned. “I love seein ya smile cherry.”
Liz sighed. “Okay, okay I’ll feed you. Come on.”

Chapter 4:
(Crashdown)
Zan and Liz walked into the restaurant through the back room. Zan was surprised to see Ava already talking to a guy in one of the booths. Walking over to them he sat down next to Ava and put a hand protectively around her. He was going to make sure this guy knew if he did anything to hurt her he was going to deal with him. Ava was like his little sister and he’d kick whoever’s ass he needed to if it meant keeping her safe. Liz watched Zan wrap his arms around Ava and was surprised she felt hurt and a little jealous. She shook her head knowing she only felt like that because he looked like Max. It was strange but Liz didn’t mind Ava. She didn’t feel the immediate hatred she usually felt when Tess was around. Though both Ava’s and Tess’ eyes were clear blue when Liz looked into Ava’s eyes she saw warmth even if she was a little rough around the edges. Unlike when she looked into Tess’s eyes and saw ice. The only other person that noticed how cold Tess was when no one was looking was Maria. The others though wary at first accepted her into the group.
“Yo.” Zan smirked at the surprised look on the guys face.
Ava looked over at Zan and smiled. “This is Kyle.”
Zan raised his eyebrows and glanced over at Liz who nodded. Ahh, so this was Kyle. “Waz really Kyle?”
Kyle shook his head nervously. “N-nothing really. Just talking to Ava.”
Zan nodded thoughtfully. “Aigh’t, about wat?”
Ava jabbed him hard on the side. “Stop playin’ Zan.”
“Hey Liz.” Kyle smiled.
Liz returned his smile. “Hey Kyle.”
“What are you doing here? I thought it was your day off.”
“Oh, well, Zan was threatening to sue me if I didn’t get him something to eat so we came down here.”
Zan grinned at her. “An yous still haven’t fed me. Guess I’ma have ta pass out right here ta prove it ta ya.” Zan said getting up.
Liz laughed and pushed him back down. “Okay, okay. What do you want?”
Ava watched the interaction between the two. She was surprised to see this side of Zan. Though he did have a wonderful sense of humor he never looked as carefree and playful as he was now.
“A burger, fries an a cherry coke.”
“How about you guys?”
“I don’t want anything.” Kyle said.
“Um, ya don’ have ta do that. I’ll jus share wit Zan.” Ava shook her head.
“No you ain’t sharin’ wit me. I’m starvin’.”
“Zan!” Liz glared at him. How could he treat his girlfriend like that way?
He looked at her innocently. “Wat?”
Liz rolled her eyes. “Don’t worry Ava it’s on the house. Tell me what you’d like.”
“Um, wat Zan’s havin’ I guess.”
“Okay.” Liz walked over to give her order to Jose.
“Aight Kyle, so wat’s ya intentions wit Aves?” Zan smirked when Kyle turned a deep shade of red.
“Zan!” Ava narrowed her eyes angrily.
“Well, first I think Ava is a-a very beautiful girl and um, I’d like to take her out sometime.” Kyle said never taking her eyes off Ava.
Ava turned wide eyes to Kyle. No one had ever called her beautiful before. Zan had always said she looked hot or sexy sometimes but never beautiful. No only that but no one’s ever asked her out before. It was usually just sex with other guys.
Zan nodded. “Good. I’m a leave ya two at it,” Zan got up. “Oh, an’ some words a wisdom, always use protection.”
“Fuck off Zan!” Ava glared at him. He totally ruined the moment..
Zan grinned mischievously. “Aight. I know when I’m not wanted.”
Liz appeared next to him balancing two trays. She put one down in front of Ava.
“Come on cherry. I gotta sit somewhere else. Ava jus kicked me off this table fa no reason at all.” Zan said giving Liz a sad little boy look.
“Aww. Why?” Liz turned to Ava.
“I told ‘im ta fuck off cause he likes ta talk a lot a shit.” Ava said narrowing her eyes at Zan.
Liz looked between Zan and Ava before nodding. “I wouldn’t put it past him. What did he say?”
“Somethin’ about me an Kyle usin’ protection. Can ya jus keep I’m away from me.” Ava pleaded.
Liz laughed. “Sure. Come on Zan.”
Zan sulked and followed behind her.
“So did ya mean wat ya said before?” Ava asked nonchalantly.
Kyle held back his smile. He could tell she wasn’t used to guys asking her out. “What that you’re beautiful or that I’d like to go out with you sometime?”
Ava swallowed. “Uh, yea that.”
Kyle smiled. “That’s a yes on both counts.”
Ava looked away embarrassed “Cool.”

(New York)
Tess sat in the Trans am trying her hardest not to glare at the people around her. God, why she chose to go on this stupid trip was beyond her. Looking over at Max and his far away expression she held back the urge to roll her eyes. His mind was probably on that stupid human bitch as always. Even after the whore slept with someone else. He was so pathetic, nothing like the king she remembered him being. Her thoughts drifted to the bad ass version of Max and a shiver of desire went up her spine. Now that was a king. The way he held himself with confidence and arrogance attracted her immediately. If she would’ve known about them earlier she would have ditched the human loving trio and gone after Zan. Oh, well. There was nothing stopping her now, well nothing except the loser currently sitting next to her and her double that was smarter than she looked and decided to stay in Roswell with Zan. Zan…she’d figure out a way to get him if it was the last thing she did.
“We here.” Rath said pulling her out of her thoughts.
They all piled out of the Trans Am and Rath and Lonnie led them down to the subway and through a tunnel. Tess kept her hands tightly to her sides not wanting to touch anything in this disgusting dump they called home. Once they reached the opening of the tunnel Tess closed her eyes tightly wishing that this was all a dream. No she was not in the sewers.
“Aight, well the summit meetin’ aint till tomorrow so ya can make yaselves comfy.” Lonnie said sitting down on a battered red couch in the middle of the room.
Rath took a seat next to her and wrapped his arm around her. Lonnie smiled and gave him a kiss.
“Okay, that is too weird for me.” Tess scrunched her nose disgusted.
“Why don’t we go walk around New York for a while.” Max said looking away from them.
Tess agreed not wanting to be around the freaks and their horrible living conditions.
As soon as Max and Tess left Rath voiced what he’d been thinking ever since he came in contact with the petite blue eyed girl. “I don’ trust ‘er Lons.”
Lonnie smirked at Rath. Yous don’ trust anyone.”
Rath rolled his eyes. “I aint playin Lonnie. That bitch rubs me the wrong way.”
Lonnie nodded. “Aight we’ll keep an eye on ‘er.”

Liz laughed again at another of Zan’s antics. The man was relentless. He was always saying something to make her smile and Liz found herself telling him things she never told anyone. She knew she could trust him even though they’d met just a few hours ago. He was easy to talk to, especially since he knew her secret and she didn’t feel like she needed to lie or hold back from him.
“You know, now I know why Ava kicked you out of her table. You’re horrible.” Liz said smiling.
Zan grinned. “Aww, don’ tell me you sidin’ wit her. I thought we waz friends, you suppose ta have my back.”
Liz snorted holding back a laugh. “I can definitely imagine you when you were young, running around pranking everyone.”
Zan gave her a cute half smile but didn’t comment.
Liz checked her watch and gasped. “Oh, my god. It’s almost twelve thirty.” She looked around and noticed the only people left in the restaurant were Kyle, Ava, Zan, and her.
Zan shrugged. “Time flies when you wit Zan.”
Liz rolled her eyes. “Oh my god.”
Getting up they walked over to Ava and Kyle. Liz could see Kyle was clearly flirting with Ava and she chanced a glance at Zan who didn’t seem to be bothered. Maybe they had different meanings for commitment in New York.
“Hey guys. Um, sorry to break it up but it’s twelve thirty.”
Their eyes widened. “Guess we lost track of time.” Kyle said.
“That’s fine. We did too.” Liz smiled.
“All right. Well, guess I’d better be going.” Kyle said getting up. He smiled down at Ava. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Ava nodded.
“Where are you guys staying?” Liz asked.
“At Mike’s.” Zan answered.
“Both of you?” Liz didn’t want it to bother her but it did.
Ava noticed the look on Liz’s face and immediately spoke up. “If ya don’ mind can I stay wit you? Zan snores like a trucka.”
Zan glared at her. “No I fuckin’ don’t.”
Liz laughed. “Sure. My parent’s are gone for two weeks.
“I’ll drive you.” Kyle volunteered.
Zan shrugged. “Aight.”
“See ya Liz. Bye Ava.” Kyle smiled one more time at her and walked out the door.
“I’ll talk to ya later cherry.” Zan said softly and bent to kiss her on the cheek. “Peace out Aves.” Zan followed Kyle out.
Liz looked between them confused. They really were a weird couple.

Chapter 4:

Hey guys! I'm back! Finals are over and I did excellent I might add. Okay, anyway here's another part so....ENJOY!
Chapter 5:
“Here, you can sleep in this.” Liz handed Ava a pajama shirt and pants.
“Thanks.” Ava walked into the bathroom to change.
Liz held back a laugh when Ava closed the door behind her. She still couldn’t believe she was letting someone that was identical to the person she hated most sleep in her house. It was weird being around her but Liz could see that Ava was nothing like Tess and she felt at ease with her. Ava came out of the bathroom while Liz was turning down the comforter on her bed.
“Night.” Ava said before dropping to the floor next to Liz’s bed and curling on her side.
Liz frowned. “Uh, Ava?”
Ava lifted her head. “Yea?”
“Why are you laying on my floor?”
“Cuase I’m tryin’ ta sleep.” Ava looked at her like if she was crazy.
Liz watched Ava lay on the floor again; she bit her lip unable to stop herself from feeling pity for the girl. It looked like she was used to sleeping on the floor and that really bothered her. Liz’s bed was big enough for them both and she found no reason for Ava to sleep on the floor. Now if it was Tess Liz would be the first to throw her ass outside.
“Ava?”
Ava sighed and sat up again. “Ya know I waz almost asleep dat time.”
Liz smiled. “I’m sorry. Look the bed is big enough for the two of us. We can share it if you want.”
Ava looked at her shocked then slowly nodded. “Uh, okay, cool.”
Liz handed Ava one of her pillows and they both lay on her bed. They were both staring at the dark ceiling in a surprisingly comfortable silence. Liz unable to help herself turned to Ava.
“Do you believe in destiny?”
Ava snorted and turned on her side to face Liz. She knew all about her supposed destiny with Zan and though when they were young she believed it, now it was different. She knew you could never force someone to love you no matter what a stupid book said. “Nah. I think that’s a load a bullshit. Why should anyone be destined ta be wit someone jus cause some old geezers said so?”
Liz’s eyes widened. “So, you and Zan aren’t-?”
Ava smirked. “Togetha? Nah, Zan’s a dork.”
Liz laughed. “You’d better not say that in front of him.”
Ava grinned. “Pleaze, I told him worse. He deserve it too. His ass is ma annoyin;”
Liz smiled thinking about Zan.
“Yo, Uh, yous an Kyle used ta go out?” Ava said trying to pass off as she if didn’t care.
Liz shook her head. “Oh that was a long time ago. We’re just friends now.”
Ava nodded thoughtfully but Liz could tell she was pleased.
“You know, you’re nothing like Tess.”
Ava’s face darkened. “Good. I don’ trust the bitch. Neitha does Rath. He tol’ me ta keep an eye on ‘er.”
“I don’t either but she’s never really done anything. Well, besides preaching destiny to Max every chance she can.” Liz said rolling her eyes.
“Well, she was all ova ‘im like white on rice when we was at that cornball museum. He didn seem ta mind.”
Liz sighed. “Yeah it’s a long story.”
Ava nodded. “So, how ‘bout you an Zan?”
Liz was happy that the darkness concealed her blush. “What about me and Zan?”
“Wat’s wit the two of you? You wanna do ‘im or wat?”
“Wh-no! He-we’re just friends. He makes me laugh.” Liz sputtered.
Ava laughed. “Sure okay.” She turned on her side and closed her eyes.
“No seriously. I don’t look at him that way.” Liz knew she didn’t believe her.
“Ava?”
Ava didn’t answer. She smiled when she heard Liz huff and turn on her side. Ava knew Liz was still hung up on Zan’s dupe but Zan had a way of sneaking up on you.

“Aight, so you ready fa this?” Rath asked as they stood outside the door were he would lead Max to the emissary.
“Yeah.” Max nodded nervously.
“Yo, if anythin’ seem fucked play it cool till we can call the othas.”
Max nodded again.
Rath walked with Max through the door. The emissary walked behind Max and placed his hand behind Max’s head. Max watched in surprise as a blue light burst from the emissary’s head shooting through his and projected an image of a V-shape.
“Sign here . . . your highness.” The emissary said.
He handed Max a receipt and left.
“It's a...it's a time card. The emissary works for a...a temp agency?” Max said as he looked down at the paper in his hand.
“Duke, the emissary never left his crib. That body that walked outta here works for a temp agency.” Rath said.
“What?” Max asked confused.
“It's like a vessel, you know? The alien emissary far away on anotha planet. Human on this planet. Emissary reaches out with his mind, takes control of the human. Human walks around like a puppet doing whatever the emissary wants him to do.” Rath explained.
“Like he's...like he's possessed?”
“Yea. Somthin’ like dat.”
Rath could tell Max still was al little confused. “Look, the humans are aight. They don’ rememba anythin’ that happened once the aliens leave there bodies.”
Max nodded.
“Aight. Come on. Let’s go find Lonnie and G. I’ll buy ya the best pizza slice ya eva had.”
“G?”
Rath shook his head. “For get it.”

(3am in Roswell)
Liz felt the warm tingling feeling and automatically looked to the window. Zan stood outside smirking at her. Liz bit her lip nervously before carefully getting up and opening the window. Zan put out his hand and Liz took it, letting him help her out.
“What are you doing here Zan?”
He grinned mischievously before wrapping his arm around her waist and pulling her hard against his body. Liz gasped and her eyes widened. Zan leaned down and nudged her nose playfully with his giving her time to back out. Liz smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck closing the distance between their mouths. A spark of electricity ran through her entire body and Liz moaned softly into his mouth.
Zan rubbed slow circles on her back over her shirt for a while but soon wanted more. “Do you want me cherry?” Zan asked pulling back so his forehead rested against hers.
Liz looked into his amber eyes noting that they weren’t like Max’s as she had once thought. They were a brighter gold and contained a wicked humor that she’d never seen in Max’s. She could also see a dark shadow in them and knew he hadn’t had an easy life. Above all those emotions the strongest was the raw desire she saw and she couldn’t help bite her lower lip nervously.
Zan groaned. “Don’ do that cherry.” He said softly.
Liz turned wide innocent eyes on him. “Do what?”
“Bite ya lip like that.” He leaned in and nibbled softly on her lower lip. “Only I get ta do that.”
Liz pressed her body against him and kissed him hard. “Say ya want me baby.” Zan whispered.
Liz opened her mouth but a flicker of movement caught her eye over Zan’s shoulder. She looked over and almost fainted when she saw Max standing in the corner looking at her with hate in his eyes.
Liz jerked out of her dream panting. She looked over and saw Ava was still knocked out snoring loudly. The clock on her bedside table read three in the morning. Liz reached over and picked up her phone.
“Hello?” Maria answered groggily.
“I need to talk.” Liz said quietly.
“It's 3:00 in the morning.”
“Please, Maria.” Liz begged.
“Where?”
“The place by the thing that we went that time with what's-her-name.”
“I'm there. Bye.” Maria hung up.

(The Fountain)
“I'm sorry. I know this all sounds really crazy...” Liz said biting her lip.
“So, you have a crush on you’re former boyfriend’s look alike. What’s wrong with that?”
“Everything! He’s . . . and Max . . . it’s just-“ Liz sighed. “I don’t know.”
“Look chica. You and Max had some kind of fall out right?”
Liz nodded. “Yeah but that was my fault and-“
“Liz. Just tell me what’s going on okay?” Mara said cutting her off.
After a while Liz nodded. “Okay.”
Maria waited patiently for Liz to continue.
“Well, a Max from the future comes back in time to tell me that I have to help him fall out of love with me because in fourteen years the world was gonna end.” Liz started.
Maria nodded. “Okay.”
“Okay. So, um...right, Max...Future Max...tells me that the reason that the world comes to an end is because...get this...he and Tess weren't together when their enemies came to Earth. And the reason they weren't together was because Max and I got married.”
“Oh.”
“I know it's really confusing.”
Maria shook her head. “No, no, no. I'm with you. Keep going.”
“So he asks me to help him and after a while I agree and I asked Kyle to help me. The only way is to end up in bed together.” Liz said slowly.
“So you slept with Kyle?”
“No, no. Not really. I arranged it so Max saw Kyle and I in bed together, but nothing really happened.” Liz said shaking her head.
“So Max thinks that you and Kyle...”
“I’m sorry I lied to you.”
“No. I'm so sorry that I got so mad. I should have known that it was, you know, an alien thing. Are you still a virgin?” Maria asked.
“Yeah.”
“Okay.”
“Okay.”
Maria stayed quiet for a while before grinning at Liz. “So . . . you have a crush on Zan huh?”
Liz blushed smiling. “Shut up!”
“Uh-huh.” Maria narrowed her eyes at her.
“Okay you need some sleep.” Liz said shaking her head.

(In front of the Subway in New York)
“Well, well, well. What a pleasant surprise.” Nicholas grinned evilly.
“I knew you’d be here. Khivar doesn’t do anything without his lapdog.” Tess smirked.
“Oh, shut up you little whore. And where’s our all time favorite shape-shifter? Did you kill him already?” Nicholas looked around as if Nasedo would appear out of nowhere.
“For your information, I didn’t. Someone else did.” Tess said smugly.
“Oh, but you had nothing to do with that right?” Nicholas shook his head mockingly.
“Of course not.” Tess smiled sweetly.
“So, I know you wouldn’t have summoned me if there wasn’t something you wanted. So, spill it.”
Tess leaned in making sure her breasts where jutting close to his face. “Well, I need a little help.” She said coyly.
“With what?” Nicholas whispered never taking his eyes off her chest.
“I need to get rid off Max. He’s of no use to me anymore.”
Nicholas’ eyes snapped up to hers. “Of no use? Did you forget the deal you have with Khivar already?”
Tess rolled her eyes. “No. But all Khivar wants is a brat from the king. And in case you haven’t noticed. There’s two of them.”
A slow smile spread over Nicholas’ face. “Ahh, I see. You’re horny for the freak from New York now.”
Tess smirked. “He is more powerful. Even if they both have the stupid royal seal Zan is more alien. He has so much more to offer than that worthless human lover.”
Nicholas looked at her his eyes bright. “Power turns you on? Cause I’ve got plenty of it.”
Tess smiled and ran her finger across his cheek. “Oh I know that. That’s why I want your help. I know you can do it.”
Nicholas caught her hand in his and pulled her down so there faces were millimeters apart. “Only if you help me.”
Tess nodded. “Anything.”
Nicholas kissed her hard. “Good. Now go back to that rat hole before they find out you’re not there.”
He slapped her ass emitting a giggle from Tess and walked away. Tess sneaked back into the sewer unaware of the pair of eyes watching her the entire time.

Liz and Ava sat down eating breakfast at the Crashdown. Ava was telling her stories of her childhood and about how they had to steal to eat and buy things.
“Why?”
Ava shrugged. “Thas jus the way it was. We had ta eat somehow and stealin’ was the only way.”
“But, why didn’t you guys get jobs?”
Ava smiled bitterly. “People ain’t too nice when they find out ya never had a school education. ‘Sides, we always been busy killin’ skins and shit that we ain’t got time. We neva really liked ta steal though. We usually did it when we was so hungry we couldn’ take it no more.”
Liz felt sad that they had to spend days hungry just because no body would hire them. An image of a six year old Zan cold and hungry came to her mind and she had to hold back tears.
“It’s aight. We fine now.” Ava smiled.
“Well, help yourself to whatever you want here. The perk of being friends with the owner’s daughter is you get free food.” Liz smiled back.
Liz felt the tingling in her spine and automatically looked to the door.
Ava raised her eyebrow confused until a minute later Zan, Michael, Isabel, and Kyle walked in. Zan’s eyes searched the room until they landed on her.
They walked over to them. Zan immediately took a seat next to Liz while Kyle took one next Ava. Michael and Isabel pulled out chairs to sit next to them.
Liz felt her heart hammering in her chest at Zan’s close proximity. He leaned over to give her a kiss on the cheek at the same time that Liz turned her head to say hi. His lips landed on her mouth. He didn’t seem to care; he just pressed his mouth against hers a little harder than pulled back. Liz looked away making sure not to look at any of the people around her.
“Hey cherry.” Zan grinned.
“Hey.” Liz said quietly.
“Okay, now that that’s over let’s talk about this summit thing.” Michael said stealing a piece of toast from Liz’s plate. “Max called yesterday tot ell us he arrived okay and he was just waiting to hear from the council people.”
“We jus wait an see if somethin’ wrong. Until he meet wit dem we don’ know shit.” Zan shrugged.
After a while Michael and Isabel stood up. “Okay, well, we’re leaving.”
They walked out of the Crashdown and drove off.
Kyle and Ava stood up after them. “Um, we’re leaving too. I’m gonna show Ava the sights.”
Liz snorted. “In case you didn’t know. These are the sights.”
Kyle turned red. “Yeah but she um, yeah.”
“See ya Lizzie.” Ava waved.
Liz looked down at her food a little nervous at being left alone with Zan. The dream was still vivid in her mind. She could still hear his husky voice and feel his tongue playing with hers demanding control.
“You aight cherry? Zan smirked at her flushed face.
“Yeah.” Liz nodded.
“Hey,” Zan lifted her chin so she looked into his eyes. “I can feel somethin’s wrong wit you.”
Liz smiled and shook her head. “It’s nothing. Are you hungry?”
Zan stared into her eyes then nodded.
“Okay, I’ll get you something.”
Zan watched the sway of her hips as usual. She looked so beautiful this morning. He could still feel the heat of her mouth on his and he wished he could just grab her and kiss her senseless. She came back with a large plate of eggs, bacon, pancakes, and toast, a large pitcher of orange juice and a bottle of Tabasco sauce. Zan raised his eyebrows at the large plate. Then nodded as if he understood.
“What?” Liz said sitting in front of him.
“Aves tol ya about how we live in New York.”
Liz blushed. “Well-“
“It’a aight cherry. Thank you.”
Liz smiled. “Why is it you call me that, cherry?”
Zan grinned and leaned forward to stroke her cheek. “Cause you ma sweet innocent little cherry.”
Liz laughed softly shaking her head. “You’re so crazy.”
Zan winked at her and continued to eat.

(Roswell)

Hey guys! It's been a while I know. I hope you enjoy this one it's extra long.
Chapter 6
(New York)
"Aight, now if ya feels like ya in trouble jus look at one of us an we go call Zan." Rath said giving Max last minute advice.
Tess rolled her eyes. Of course these losers would go off running to call Zan. They'd be nothing without him. Still she had to put on a front.
"I think he'll handle it." She said in her sweetest voice.
Rath narrowed his eyes at her. "Ain't nobody talkin' ta ya G."
Lonnie let out a snort of laughter from where she stood next to Tess.
Tess opened her mouth to tell them off when Max cut her off.
"All right that's it. We need to concentrate on this meeting."
Lonnie nodded. "He right. Rath go take Tess inside I need ta talk to Max fo a second."
Rath looked intently at Lonnie before going inside the room with Tess.
"You an my bro are alot alike ya know. Ya both ma loyal an ova protective." Lonnie said thoughtfully.
Max nodded not knowing where she was going.
"Ya also don' expect people close to ya to betray you."
"What are you saying?"
Lonnie sighed. "Rath don' trust Tess. He think she up to somethin'."
Max looked away from her. "Rath doesn't look like he trusts anyone."
"True. All I'm sayin' is keep an eye on 'er."
Max nodded before walking through the door.
When Max walks into the room he's suprised to see Brody sitting next to a browned haired girl with her head down cast.
"Brody?"
"Actually the name's Larek. Are you Zan?" Larek asked.
"They tell me that used to be my name but I'm Max. Max Evans."
At his words the girl sitting next to Larek raised her face. Max held his breath when he looked into the brightest purple eyes he'd ever seen. She was very beautiful and Max couldn't help but stare at her.
"If he doesn't even know his own name, how can he sit in conference with us?" Kathana said coldly cutting off the staring contest between Max and the girl.
"He sits with us because the emissary certified him. Kathana, Sero, Hanar will represent each of their worlds. Serena and I will represent ours and Max will speak for his." Larek glared at Kathana.
Nicholas chose that moment to walk in through the side door. "Actually, Kivar speaks for his world. And I speak for Kivar. Max. Nice to see you and your. . . girlfriend." He said eyeing Tess appreciativley.
"May we begin?" Larek said irritated.
"Ya know 'im?" Lonnie asked Max quietly.
"Long story. He was in Roswell."
"Be careful." Rath said eyeing Nicholas.
"That much I know." Max said taking a seat.
(At Liz's house)
"Zan stop it!" Liz laughed running behind the couch.
"Come on cherry. Jus one small one. I promise it won't hurt ya." Zan grinned from the other side of the couch.
"No!" Liz yelled running towards her room.
She almost made before she felt two strong arms catch her by her waist.
"Ahh!" Liz laughed.
Zan lifted her into his arms and ran back to the couch throwing her on it. He started ti tickle her mercilessly.
"Z..Zan. Ssstop!...I have to pee!"
"Say I'm da man! Say it!" Zan said tickling her again.
"You..you...you suck!" Liz managed to squirm away and run into the bathroom.
She laughed locking the door. Leaning against the door she panted catching her breath before relieving her bladder. Quietly she opened the door to the bathroom and looked around. Not spotting Zan she walked outside tiptoeing to her room. As soon as she reached the middle of the room a blue shimmering shield surrounded her. She pushed at the shield but it was like a wall.
"ZAN!" Liz screamed banging at the shield.
Zan walked over to her a huge smile on his face. "Sup cherry."
"Let me out!" Liz said angrily.
Zan crossed his arms over his chest and looked up thoughtfully. "Hmmm. Nope. Yous stayin in there till ya admit I'm da man."
"You suck!" Liz banged at the shield. "This is cheating. You're not supposed to use your powers."
Zan shrugged. "Alls fair in love an war."
"Zan I swear if you don't let me out of here..." Liz yelled.
"All ya have to say is I'm da man an' I'll let ya out."
"Fine. I'm the man."
"Nope."
Liz sighed looking around then smiling when an idea popped into her head. No one could ever resist her puppy dog look and pout.
"Please Zan. Let me out." Liz said sticking out her bottom lip and batting her eyelashes at him.
Zan's eyes widened. "Aww. Okay." He let down the shield.
As soon as it was gone Liz ran to the couch threw him a pillow smacking him hard in the face and took off into her room.
"Ha! Sucker!" Liz grinned closing the door and locking it.
She smiled. Finally she was home free. Turning around she almost had a heart attack when she saw Zan standing there a smirk on his face.
"How the hell-?"
"What did ya call me befo runnin' in here?" Zan had a preditory gleam in his eyes.
"N-nothing. I didn't say anything." Liz reached and unlocked the door runnnig towards the living room again.
She fell back when she ran into a hard chest. Zan grinned down at her.
"Ya ain't ruinnin' anymore cherry. Say it or I'm gonna tickle ya again."
Rolling her eyes Liz sighed. "Okay, okay. You're the man."
Zan helped her up and they sat back on the couch Liz lay her head on his lap and closed her eyes. He ran his hand through her hair while the sat in silence.
"Zan?" Liz said after a while.
"Hmm."
"Have you ever been in love?"
Zan looked down at her. He knew he could never have her. She was in love with his dupe and no matter how he felt about her he'd never come between them. Yeah, he'd given her innocent little kisses but it would never be more than that.
"Yeah."
Liz looked up at him surprised she felt a pang of jealousy go through her but tampt it down. "Really? With who?"
You. "Ya don' know 'er."
"Tell me about her."
"Well, she kinda like you a little bit. Funny, sweet. She the strongest person I know."
"You think I'm strong?"
Zan looked into her big brown eyes and gave her his best smile. "Yeah."
Liz smiled back before snuggling into his leg and closing her eyes again. a couple of minutes later she was fast asleep.
(Michael's house)
"So, what do you think?" Michael asked Isabel. "Do you trust them?"
Isabel shrugged. "I don't know. I mean they're different from us."
"I mean that Zan guy wasn't so bad. He was pretty cool when he stayed last night."
"Lonnie wasn't so bad." Isabel said thinking back to the conversation they had.
"Let's just keep our eyes open. I have a feeling something's going to happen."
Isabel nodded.
(The summit meeting)
"We're here in the spirit of reconciliation. We're not here to rehash the past, point fingers, and assign blame." Larek started.
"Can we get to it? We're here to end 50 years of misery and suffering among our worlds. Kathana attacks Kivar. Kivar attacks Sero. Sero attacks me. The situation is intolerable!" Hanar cried indignantly.
"Agreed! We have to find a solution." Sero said.
"And Kivar has a solution. Kivar will abdicate the throne and allow the royal four to return home under the following conditions: 1) Max becomes king only in name. All real power and government remains in Kivar's hands, 2) Max calls upon his followers to lay down their weapons and support the new government, and 3) Most importantly...Max returns the granilith to us." Nicholas smirked.
"The granilith?" Kathana raised her eyebrows.
"No, it's no longer on our world. Yes, we've known about it for a long time. No, Kivar decided he didn't need to tell you. And, yes, we know where it is. It's with Max." Nicholas said never taking his eyes off Max.
"Is this true, Max?" Larek asked surprised.
"It's here." Max sighed.
"So there you have it. Max comes home with the granilith. All is forgiven. Do we have a deal?" Nicholas said triumphantly.
"I...need to think about this." Max said looking at Rath and Lonnie.
"I'd be surprised if you didn't. But be quick about it. Holding onto these bodies isn't easy. In fact, it's chewing up huge amounts of our resources. 20 minutes, Max...then we need an answer." Larek said before turning to speak quietly to Serena.
"You'll have it." Max said and got up.
Lonnie, Rath, and Tess followed him out to discuss their situation.
"Cut a deal with Nicholas? I don't trust him anymore than I can throw him."
"Well, ya could throw 'im pretty far. That little munchkin don look like he weigh more than a feather." Rath said to Max.
"All this shit gotta do wit the granilith. Do ya think we really get ta go home or it's jus some bullshit ta get it?" Lonnie asked.
"I don't know but we can't give it to them. Liz said something... it's powerful and if it got into the wrong hands..." Max thought back to what Liz said.
"How does she know that?" Tess said trying to keep the hate from showing in her voice.
"She wouldn't say." Max said holding in his anger.
"Well, whatever you choose I'm sure it'll be the right thing." Tess said smiling.
Rath glared at her. He knew she was up to something. He saw her coming in late last night. What would she be doing out alone in a city she didn't even know?
"What do you guys think?" Max asked Rath and Lonnie.
"Maybe we should call Rozzy an' ask Zan what he think we should do?" Lonnie said.
Max shrugged the more opinions the better. "Hurry we've only got fifteen minutes."
(The Crashdown)
Zan sat down in his favorite booth talking to Liz, Ava, Kyle, Michael, Alex, Maria and Isabel when his phone rang.
"Yo."
"Yo it's Rath."
"What's good man? Everythin' aight?" Zan looked around at everyone letting them know it was from New York.
Zan put the phone on speaker phone while Rath explained to them what was going on.
"I knew everythin' had ta do wit the granilith." Zan sighed.
"So what ya think?" Rath asked.
"Zan." Liz looked into his eyes.
They had a silent conversation and Zan knew exactly what to say.
"No deal. Tell 'em we ain't givin 'em shit."
"Aight. I call ya lata."
Everyone was looking between Liz and Zan not really sure what was going on except for Maria.
"What was all that about?" Michael asked the unspoken question.
"It's cool Mike. We got dis." Zan said winking at Liz.
(Different room)
"God I hate this town. Hello?" Nicholas said looking around.
"Hey." Tess said coming out from behind a pillar.
"Hey yourself."
"Miss me?" Tess smiled.
"Always. Can't wait to see more of you." Nicholas looked her up and down.
"Well, we just have to wait till we get home."
"Let's be clear Tess. You can't go home until two things are done. I get the granilith and you get pregnant with the kings baby."
"Let's be clear Nick. I don't give a damn about the granilith. I'm going home as soon as I get Zan to fuck me."
"Big talk for a woman with no cards to play." Nicholas smirked.
"I have cards. I just haven't shown them to you yet. You know, I'm not like the others. I remember our world. I remember Kivar. I want that life, and I'll do what I have to to get it back. Be on my side, and you'll benefit. Be against me, and...well, it would be crazy idea to be against me. Don't worry about Max. He's a pussy. He'll go for the deal. He'll go for the deal because millions of lives hang in the balance. Besides, he wants to go home and give mommy a kiss and get fitted for his crown." Tess smiled sweetly.
"He won't live long enough to wear it. Kivar wants him dead. You know the deal. You get pregnant with heir and stand by Kivar's side. The rest of them die. He wants the granilith first though. It's very powerful."
"Well, I'd have to be an idiot not to have figured that out." Tess rolled her eyes. "But there's two of them. Two Zans. If Kivar kills Max Zan will be right there to take his place."
"Well, I'm glad we have that plan to kill Max then."
Tess smiled. "Once Max gives you the granilith we get back to Roswell so I can fuck Zan. As soon as I get pregnant we all go to Antar and Kivar can have the pleasure of killing Zan and the rest of those losers."
Nicholas smiled.
"We have to make it look like an accident though. Can't have those freaks suspecting me." Tess said.
"Don't worry it will."
(Back at the Summit)
"Well, have you made your decision?" Larek asked Max.
"Yes, I have. And the answer is no. I will not give up the granilith to you. Not to you, not to Kivar, not to anyone."
Rath didn't miss the lok of suprise that appeared on Tess's face before she masked it.
"You're all witnesses. Kivar tried to be reasonable, tried to extend a hand of peace...and had it slapped away. Our business is at an end here. Our offers are withdrawn." Nicholas said getting up.
"You made a lot of enemies here today." Kathana said before leaving.
"Do you ever wonder why your predecessor was killed? He made bad decisions." Nicholas snarled and left.
"You don't remember any of this, I'm sure, but...our families used to be very close. You and I practically grew up together. I was there at your father's funeral. At your coronation, your wedding. We were friends. And it was so painful to watch you fall, to see you trying so hard to make a better world for your people. And then to watch you have it all taken away by a man like Kivar...I told you you were trying to do too much too soon, that change takes time. But you wouldn't listen. You just kept...what's the point? It's all ancient history now." Larek said sadly.
Serena walked up next to Larek. "Larek has agreed that I shall go with you to Roswell."
Max's eyes widened at the softness of her voice. "W-why?"
Serena smiled. "To keep an eye on everything. I'll be able to keep in touch with Larek telepathically so he won't need to waste resources."
"Wouldn't he be wasting resources anyway? I mean doesn't it take strength to keep possesion of that body?" Max asked her.
"Oh, I am not in someone else's body like Larek is. I am full Antarian."
"She will be a good asset to you. Serena is one of the most intelligent scientist we have on Antar." Larek smiled.
"I-okay I guess." Max stammered.
Tess glared at the woman. This was not going as planned.
Serena smiled. "Great! I'll need a week to get everything ready."
"It was good seeing you Max. I'll keep in touch." Larek said before leaving.
"So, you comin' wit us?" Rath smiled flirtatously.
"Stop it." Lonnie said smacking him over the head.

Chapter 7
(Liz’s house)
Zan and Liz sat on her living room couch watching a movie. After Zan promised to let them know if Rath called again Michael had gone home to watch a hockey game, Isabel and Alex went star gazing and Ava and Kyle had gone bowling. Liz glanced over at Zan; the flickering of the screen gave him a dark shadowy look that only made him look more appealing to her. His lips were full and looked inviting. She felt her lips tingle when she remembered the kisses they had shared together. An image of Max flashed through her head and she immediately stopped her thoughts. She tried to pay attention to the movie but images of Tess and Max cozy in New York made her heart hurt. She knew it was for the best but she couldn’t help the way she felt. Reluctant tears appeared in her eyes.
Zan felt her tears and hurt before he saw them in her face. He hated seeing her like this and he felt anger flare for his dupe. Max didn’t know how much all this was affecting her and Zan thought he was being a little selfish. All this time he didn’t stop to think that all this time Liz had never given him a reason to doubt her. He didn’t trust her anymore and Zan knew that was what was most important to Liz, that and his friendship.
Zan drew her into his arms and let her cry on him. He rubbed her back whispering soothing words until she stopped crying.
“I’m sorry.” Liz said hoarsely.
Zan smoothed the hair away from her face stroking her jaw tenderly. “Don’ cry baby. Ya know I don’ like seein’ ya cry.”
“I know it’s just-“
“Ya love him.” Zan said successfully keeping the bitterness out of his voice.
Liz could only nod slowly.
“Don’ worry cherry. One day he’s gonna see what a asshole he’s bein’ an’ he’s gonna regret everythin’ he’s been doin’ to ya.”
Liz shook her head. “He has a right to be upset. What I did to him-“
“Ya did to save him and every body else.” Zan said cutting her off.
Liz looked into his warm eyes. He was looking at her the way Max used to before Future Max happened. Before she could stop herself Liz leaned in and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. She pulled back and looked into his eyes before going back for more. Zan quickly took over gliding his tongue over her bottom lip coaxing her to open her mouth for him. Liz did so eagerly wanting to feel his tongue mate with hers. Zan tangled one of his hands in her soft hair dropping his other hand at her waist. Her shirt had ridden up and Zan loved the feel of her warm skin on his palm. Liz wrapped her arms around his neck and straddled his lap.
Zan let out a groan and immediately hardened under her. He started to receive flashes but quickly blocked them out when he saw they were of Max. He should have stopped right there but he couldn’t help it he liked being selfish. Zan kissed his way down her neck he outlined the v-neck of her shirt with his tongue ring, slowly working his hands under her shirt. Liz had her eyes closed in ecstasy. God, she was so happy to feel his hands on her again. It had been so long. Zan cupped one of her breasts in his hand kneading and massaging her. He could feel her erect nipple begging for attention but he refused to touch her there. Not yet.
“Please,” Liz begged quietly. “Oh, please Max.”
The name was like a bucket of cold water. Zan removed his hands from her in a heartbeat and stood up so fast she stumbled off him but managed to keep her balance. Zan breathed hard through his nose keeping his anger and hurt in check. He knew he shouldn’t have let her kiss him. He knew her thoughts were filled with Max but he hadn’t cared. Hearing her call him that though…it hurt more than he wanted to admit. Not bothering to say or acknowledge anything he turned and walked to the door.
“Zan, wait I—“
“I’ll see ya lata Liz.” Zan said cutting her off and walking out the door.
Liz felt her heart lurch when the door shut. She let out a sob and fell onto the couch renewed tears streaming down her face.

“We have a change of plans.” Tess said into the phone.
“What happened?” Nicholas answered.
Tess felt anger bubble deep inside her. This was not how it was supposed to go down. Max was supposed to hand over the Granlilith and Tess and Nicholas were supposed to kill him. She hadn’t expected Max to deny his people potential freedom and she hadn’t expected Serena the bitch to come into the picture. She could see Max had a thing for her even if he didn’t want to admit it. The idiot obviously liked short flat chested brunettes.
“Serena’s coming with us to Roswell.” Tess said bitterly.
Tess ground her teeth together when she heard Nicholas’s bark of laughter. Oh, he thought this was funny did he?
“In case you’re too stupid to figure it out we can’t kill Max, not now anyway.”
Nicholas stopped laughing. “The only stupid one here is you Tess. You’re the one that’ll be screwed if you don’t get pregnant with one of the kings child. I don’t give a shit about Max or Zan.”
“Oh, well you obviously don’t give a shit about the rewards and praise you’d be getting if Kivar found out you helped kill the king either right?” Tess said silkily.
Tess was satisfied to hear him let out a frustrated breath. “What is it you plan on doing?” He asked.
“Glad you see it my way,” Tess smiled. “Well, we’re not going to be getting anything done in New York anymore so let’s all go back to Roswell. You included. We’ll need to set up a trap to get Max alone. You can do your mind rape if you want to find out about the Granilith before you kill him. The rest of them you can leave to me.”
“I hope this works out because Kivar won’t be too pleased with you if you don’t keep your end of the deal.”

(Empire State Building)
“Wow.” Max said in awe, he and Serena were currently at the top of the Empire State Building. The city looked beautiful at night.
“I know.” Serena said her eyes trained on Max.
She couldn’t help but stare at the gorgeous king. He was so handsome and she loved the way his eyes sparkled sometimes. Her heart sank when she thought of the Queen. They were obviously together in this lifetime too and she was a little disappointed.
Max felt her staring at him and blushed when he saw the look in her purple eyes. It had been a while since he’d felt this way. Since Liz broke his heart he hadn’t been himself. He had felt empty. Now though looking into the eyes of the beautiful brunette he felt like he may be able to start again. She made him smile and laugh for the first time in three weeks and it felt good.
“We should go back,” Serena smiled shyly. “The queen will be wondering where you are.”
Max frowned then it dawned on him. “Tess? No, she’s not my queen. I mean we’re not together.” Max shook his head.
Serena couldn’t hold back the smile of relief. “So, would you like to go out for some pizza or something?”
Max smiled. “Yeah sure.”

(Park in Roswell)
Zan stared into the small lake his thoughts on Liz. He’d gone for a walk last night after he left Liz’s house then stayed at Michael’s. He had time to think it over and he knew he had no right to be angry. The hurt he understood but he couldn’t be angry. It was his fault for letting it get carried away like that knowing she loved his dupe. He just wished that just one time somebody would choose him. Would fight for him. All his life he’d felt like a reject. Even though he knew that they were all essentially the same he always wondered why they’d had to fight to survive all their lives and Max and the others lived a wonderful life with friends they trusted and loved. He’d never say it out loud or admit it to anyone but he envied Max Evans. He wished that Liz could give him just an ounce of the love she felt for Max. He knew he had to go back to New York. Over the past few days he was considering staying here in Hicksville if it meant being around Liz’s smiling face but he wouldn’t be able to bear it. To watch as Max finally came to his senses and realize that Liz was the most precious thing he had and fight for her. He didn’t have the strength to see them get back together.
His cell phone vibrating pulled Zan out if his thoughts.
“Yo.”
“Yo, wats really good Duke.”
“Wat up Rath. How’d it go?”
“Aight. We told ‘em we wasn’t givin’ ‘em the Granilith. They was pretty pissed but they get over it.”
“So, when ya comin’ back?”
“In a week. Some bitch from Antar’s comin’ wit us so we gotta wait till she done closing shit off here.”
Zan’s eyes widened in surprise. “Who’s comin’ wit ya?”
“Serena. She’s Larek’s assistant or somethin’. I don’t know. They think she’ll be able ta help more if she waz in Rozzy.”
“Whateva. Hurry up an get here so we can leave.”
“Yo, what’s ya hurry? Rozzy ain’t so bad.”
“Yeah you was here fa like two minutes. Hurry ya asses up I miss New York.”
“Aight. Talk ta ya lata.”
Zan hung up the phone wondering what he’d do today. He wasn’t ready to see Liz yet and everyone else seemed to be doing something. He stared at an empty car parked across the street and made a quick decision. After calling Michael to let him know what Rath said he jogged over unlocked the door with his powers and turned on the car. Maybe some time away would help.

(Sewers)
Five days had passed since Max met Serena and it felt like he knew her a lifetime. They were practically attached to the hip and Max couldn’t be happier. Thoughts of Liz never came to his mind when he was around her and it felt good not to mope all the time. Two days Max had given her a tentative kiss and was happy when she not only kissed him back but deepened it. Now all they seemed to be able to do is make out. Things were moving pretty fast but he couldn’t help himself. He felt like he had to have her. Their make out sessions were pretty hardcore and Max couldn’t deny that he wanted to take that last step. In New York he felt like he was a different person. Life and problems in Roswell were put on hold and he was finally allowed to be carefree, even if it was for a little while. Max looked down at his watch and quickly got up. He was going to meet Serena at her apartment in twenty minutes and he didn’t want to be late. They were picking up last minute things before she handed in her lease. He was in such a hurry he didn’t even see Lonnie looking at him her arms crossed and her eyebrows raised.
“Were ya off to in such a hurry?”
Max looked up noticing her for the first time. “Oh, um, just going to help Sere finish packing.” He said nonchalantly.
“Sere? Ya two been pretty close the past few days. Ya done the beast wit two backs yet?”
“The beast with two-? NO! We, um no.” Max finished lamely.
Lonnie let out a snort and shook her head. “Whateva bro. Just rememba ta use protection.”
Max blushed suddenly feeling the weight of the condom in his pocket.
Lonnie grinned. “See ya bro.”

(Liz’s bedroom)
Knock…Knock.
Liz didn’t bother getting up. Five long days. It had been five long days since she’d seen Zan, five long days since she’d cried non-stop. She couldn’t help it. She was so used to having him around, he was the only one that made her forget about her problems and the weight she had on her shoulders. He made her laugh. She felt like she could say and do anything and he wouldn’t care. He had soon become one of her best friends and now he was gone. She’d driven him away. She’d selfishly kissed him thinking the entire time about Max. She had closed her eyes and pictured him in her head and now she wished she could take it back. She’d hurt him and she didn’t know how to make it right.
Her door opened behind her and Liz sat up quickly when she saw who it was. She must have been blocking him because she hadn’t felt the familiar tingling she did when he was close by.
“Sup, cherry.”
He looked sexy in his baggy leather pants and white sleeveless shirt. He stood at her door his legs slightly parted and his hands in his pockets. His presence screamed sex appeal and Liz just stared.
“Ya mad at me? Ria almost took ma head off wit a pot when she saw me.”
“Where’ve you been Zan?” Liz’s voice came out hoarse from lack of use.
“Vegas.” Zan said sheepishly. “Just chillin.”
Liz looked down at her hands. What could he have done in Vegas these past few days? Did he hook up with some girl and stayed with her? Liz knew she had no right to feel jealous but she did.
She felt her bed dip and looked up. Zan moved closer to her unable to stop himself from wrapping his arms around her. He could see the tears streaks on her cheeks and it hurt him to know she had been crying again.
“I’m sorry.” Liz whispered unable to hold back her tears.
Zan pulled her closer until her face was buried in his chest. “It’s aight cherry. Don’ cry baby, ya know I hate it.”
“Zan I didn’t mean-“
“Don’ worry about it. We cool. I ain’t angry or nothin’.” It wasn’t a lie. He wasn’t angry, hurt yes but not angry.
He wiped her tears away and grinned. They stayed in comfortable silence for a while until Zan spoke.
“As much as I love holdin’ ya cherry I’m gonna do the world a fava and make you take a shower. A nice looong shower.”
“Hey!” Liz punched him in the arm.
“Wat? It ain’t ma fault I’m lookin’ fresh and you still wearin’ the close from our movie night. You jus mad cause I’m cleaner than you.”
Liz rolled her eyes. “Oh please. This coming from the person that will put his clothes in the hamper and two days later pull them back out claiming they clean themselves.”
“Yo, who’s the dirty one here? Me or you?”
Liz got up and headed for her bathroom. “Bite me.”
“Where?” Zan said grinning wickedly.
Liz smiled shaking her head. God, she missed him.

Chapter 8
(Maria’s room)
“Okay, so let me get this straight,” Maria held up her hand to stop Liz from talking. “You and Zan were making out on your couch after he basically told you that Max was being an idiot and didn’t deserve you…you’re about to take a big step into your relationship with him and you call out Max’s name?”
Liz sighed at the exasperated look on her best friend’s face. “Yeah, sorta.”
Maria shook her head. “I love ya Liz but you’re an idiot.”
Liz rolled her eyes. “Don’t you think I know that? God, I wish I could take it back but I can’t.”
Maria looked at her thoughtfully. “What part do you want to take back? The part where you kissed Zan or the part where you called out Max’s name?”
“I don’t know. God, I don’t know Maria. Zan’s been this, this breath of fresh air since he showed up. I love being with him. He makes me forget all about this alien stuff, ironic cause he’s an alien himself but it’s like I can be this seventeen year old around him. Like I can actually be a normal teenager for once, just having fun. We laugh and joke and play,” Liz sighed heavily. “And then there’s Max. He’s been everything for me. He saved me-“
“And you saved him. Not just him but everyone in the entire world,” Maria looked at her in awe. “I’d say you guys are even.”
Liz shook her head. “Maria, Max is just, he’s my soul mate. I love him.”
“Are you sure about that? Are you positive he’s your soul mate? Liz loving someone shouldn’t hurt so much. Love should make you feel care free and happy. It’s been over a year since I’ve seen you like that. I was afraid I’d never see you laugh and smile again until Mr. Sex in a jar came to Roswell.”
Liz snorted. “Mr. Sex in a jar?”
Maria shrugged. “Liz the guy is like a walking porn shop. You can’t help but think of sex when you look at him.”
Liz narrowed her eyes. “Are you telling me you think of sex when you look at my-“Liz cut herself off.
“At your what Lizzie?” Maria said slyly. “I mean he is single and I’m currently on the market so…”
“Shut up Maria.”
“Oooh someone’s a little jealous. Hey, it’s only fair. You don’t want him so why can’t I have him?”
Liz opened and closed her mouth a couple of times thinking of an answer. “Because… you’ve….got Michael. Yeah you and Michael are meant for each other.”
Maria rolled her eyes. “In case you haven’t noticed, spaceboy and I are sooo over. I mean he totally forgot that I was gonna sing at the museum then he has the nerve to put cheese in Brody’s sandwich the other day. I mean what is…”
Liz nodded happy to steer Maria away from the conversation about Zan. What part did she want to take back? Did she regret kissing Zan? Every part of her screamed NO! No she didn’t he was a wonderful kisser; Liz could still feel his lips on her even after five days. Funny how she hadn’t thought of Max at all the entire time Zan was gone. Her mind was occupied with worry for Zan and where he was that Max hadn’t even crossed her mind. He tended to do that to her. To make her forget the pain she’d gone through.
“So anyway I decided that I should just shove Michael and Zan in a room so I can have my wicked way with them.”
Liz nodded deep in thought until what Maria actually said processed into her mind. “What!”
Maria shook her head sadly at her friend. “When are you gonna see it?”
Liz frowned in confusion. “What?”
“How much Zan loves you.”
Liz shook her head. “Zan doesn’t-“
“Have you noticed how his face lights up when you walk into a room? How your face lights up? You know he’s coming before he even gets to the door and when he does you both give each other these secret smiles. You always sit next to each other, his arm around you, love shining in his eyes and you still don’t see it. Heck, even Michael’s seen it and we all know he’s clueless.” Maria rolled her eyes.
“Maria, Max-“
“You know what sucks?” Maria cut her off again. “One of these days you’re going to realize how good he is for you and it’ll be too late.”

“Aight everyone in the car?” Rath asked getting in the driver’s seat.
“Nah, G’s still missin’.” Lonnie said from the passenger’s side.
Max stopped kissing Serena to look around. “Why aren’t we leaving?”
“Well, if ya two could stop suckin’ face fo a second ya’ll notice G ain’t here.” Rath said rolling his eyes.
After Max had gone to Serena’s house to pack they didn’t see him till the next day. It was clear to all of them what had happened but no one said anything. Rath had kept an eye on Tess and though he expected her to be angry and shoot death glares at Serena he hadn’t expected her to give the same looks to Max. They’d seen less of her after the summit meeting and Rath knew nothing good could come of it.
“Yo. I’ma go look fa her.” Rath said getting out of the car.
“Nah, forget it she comin’.” Lonnie said pointing to Tess.
Tess strolled down the block towards them like she didn’t have a care in the world.
“Yo you wanna kick rocks we tryin’ to leave here.” Rath said irritated.
Tess smiled sweetly at him and got in the back seat. Rath would be the second person she’d enjoy getting rid of once she got to Roswell. The first of course would be the bitch that everyone seems to love.

(Liz’s balcony)
Liz sat on the lawn chair on her balcony deep in thought. The words Maria had said to her two days ago were still haunting her. “One of these days you’re going to realize how good he is for you and it’ll be too late.”
Zan and she had gone back to how they acted before the incident in her house. Liz smiled thinking about the fun they had playing board games in her room. It was weird that Zan had never played board games before and Liz was happy that she could be the one to teach him. He cheated when they were playing monopoly and Liz had to throw a pillow at him, of course that led to an all out pillow fight where the only reason why Liz won was because Zan claimed she was too short for him to hit. She then made the mistake of making fun of his giant ears and ended up being mercilessly tickled until tears where running down her face.
Sighing Liz looked up at the stars wishing they had the answer to what she should do. She had stopped fooling herself and admitted she like Zan as more than a friend but she couldn’t deny she loved Max. Even after she knew he clearly hated her she never let go of that small hope that they’d get back together. That fate would lead them to each other and they’d be together again.
“Give me a sign. Tell me what to do who I should be with.” Liz said to the stars.
“Cherry?” Zan called from the street.
Liz got up and looked over her balcony at Zan. He was grinning up at her. She looked at him for a long time admiring the way he looked. Who would’ve thought that Liz would like a guy with tattoos and piercings? He looked so tough and mean but Liz knew that inside he was about as soft as a marshmellow.
“What is it Zan? You finally got some manners and decided that barging into my house like you own it is wrong?”
Zan’s grin widened. “Nah, jus didn’ feel like climbin’ all the way up there.”
“Lazy.” Liz coughed into her hand.
Zan narrowed his eyes. “Wat did yous call me?”
“Nothing.” Liz said innocently.
“Nothin’ huh?”
Liz’s eyes widened when he started to climb the latter. She knew she was in for it now.
“Wait Zan. I was just kidding.” Liz said backing up.
She turned and headed for her window but Zan was in front of it in a heartbeat. “It’s so unfair you can do that.”
Zan smiled mischievously. “Didn’ you learn ya lesson last time?” He said advancing towards her.
Liz backed up slowly. “When? The time I made you watch Dumbo and nicknamed him Zan or the time I called you loser for getting creamed by a girl in Mario Kart?”
Zan was on her in second. Picking her up he climbed through the window and deposited her on the bed wiggling his fingers where he knew she was ticklish the most. Straddling her legs he started tickling her under her ribs. Liz burst into laughter squirming to get away from him unaware that the skirt she wore had ridden up and her white flowery cotton panties where now visible. Zan stopped tickling her at once his eyes trained on her legs and underwear.
“Zan? What-? Oh.” Liz looked down at herself and tugged her skirt down blushing furiously.
Zan knew he had to get out off her bed and away from her soon because he was sure she’d notice how affected he was by her but the image of her little white panties was permanently burned into his brain. God, his little Liz was so innocent and the blush that marred her cheeks only made his erection harder in his pants. He looked down at her and held back a groan. Her lips were parted, her breath coming out in gasps from his tickling. He really needed to get off her.
Liz lay back panting, her cheeks felt like they were on fire and she knew she must be as red as a tomato right now. She was embarrassed; one because Zan had seen her underwear and two because she was mortified that the first time he saw her panties they weren’t sexy red laced underwear. She didn’t now where that last thought came from but she really wished the bed would just open up and swallow her.
Unable to deny the pull he held for her Zan leaned forward until there faces were millimeters apart. His hands were placed on each side of her face. Without thought Zan stuck his tongue out and licked at her lips. Once, twice until Liz opened them in a gasp. Zan looked down at her soft lips. He licked her again over and over until she finally stuck her tongue out and touched hers to his. Groaning Zan pressed their mouths together in a hard demanding kiss. He blocked her thoughts from him so he wouldn’t get flashes of her and Max and continued exploring her mouth. She moaned long and deep wrapping her arms around his neck. He didn’t know why he continued to torture himself but he was apparently a masochist. He couldn’t be around Liz and not want to kiss her, hold her, make her laugh, even if she was thinking of somebody else while he did it. That’s why he had to leave. Rath called earlier and told him they were just outside of Roswell and would be back in about twenty minutes. Zan had come to spend the last minutes with Liz before he said goodbye.
“Liz you will not believe what I just-oh!”
Zan quickly moved away from Liz getting up to stand by her bed. Liz sat up and glared at Maria for interrupting them.
“What Maria?” Liz said a little too harshly.
“Um,”
Liz just noticed that Maria was looking somewhat pale and nervous. She noticed the small vile she had in her hand and knew something was up.
“Maria what’s wrong?”
“They’re back.”
Zan knew she was talking about Max and the others. It was time.
***
(The Crashdown)
Zan, Liz, and Maria headed down the stairs to the Crash. Liz was nervous about seeing Max again she wondered if he had forgiven her yet if maybe they could start being friends again. Zan felt Liz’s nervousness and fisted his hands tightly to keep from blasting something. Taking a deep breath to calm himself he stepped out after them through the back door only to run into Liz’s small body. He wondered what made her stop when he looked up to see Max whispering something in a brunette’s ear and kissing her lightly on the lips. He felt the pain from Liz hit him in waves and before he knew it his hand was raised and Max was being blasted back into the back wall.
Liz watched Max fly across the room and got out of her state of shock. “Zan!”
Everyone looked at Zan too stunned to move. He looked ready to murder Max and though they were all wondering who the brunette was they didn’t know why Zan would react so strongly.
“Max!” Liz watched the girl run over to Max and help him up.
They didn’t expect her to turn blazing purple eyes to Zan and blast him through the back door.
“Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Can you people please stop blasting each other and tell us what’s going on!” Kyle said loudly.
Zan had come back holding a blue ball of energy in his hand the size of a baseball. Though he would never strike a woman he really wasn’t in a good mind set at the moment.
“Zan. Zan please.” Liz pleaded looking at his hand fearfully.
Zan took his eyes from the girl and looked down at Liz. The fear in her eyes was what finally got to him and he closed his hand. The blue ball disappeared but he stood still waiting to strike if need be.
“Okay. Now that we’re all calm. Who are you?” Kyle seemed to be the voice of reason at the moment.
“Guys, this is Serena.” Max said finally speaking.
Liz’s eyes widened when he heard the name. Serena. Serena will one day be a good friend to you. Was this the same one Future Max was talking about?
“She’s Larek’s assistant from Antar. She’s gonna be living in Roswell from now on.” Max said smiling at Serena.
“And you guys are together?” Kyle said raising his eyebrow at him.
Max looked directly at Liz when he answered. “Yeah.”
Liz felt the air leave her in a rush. She was shaking her head. “No,” she said quietly. “You can’t. You can’t be with her then it would have all been for nothing! You’re supposed to be with Tess.”
Everyone looked at Liz questioningly but Maria and Zan. They both knew what she was talking about. Zan felt the anger rush through him and the electric blue energy was flowing over his arms and hands.
“Liz what are you talking about?” Michael said speaking for the first time.
Liz shook her head tears coming to her eyes. “He’s supposed to be with Tess! What was the point?” She said loudly.
“You’re not making sense Liz.” Michael said irritated.
Liz shook her head and ran to the back room. Zan was going to follow but Maria stopped him shaking her head. “Go talk to her Max. You’re about to get a real hard push back into reality.” Maria said pointing to the back.
Zan tensed not wanting Liz to get more upset than she was but let Max walk past him into the back room.
***
(Back Room)
Liz sat on the battered couch her head in her hands. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be. Max was supposed to get with Tess so she wouldn’t leave and they could save the world. He wasn’t supposed to hook up with someone else completely. She heard the door open and looked up to see Max standing there with his hands in his pocket. She didn’t know what to feel anymore.
“What were you talking about out there Liz? What was for nothing?” Max said getting to the point.
Liz shook her head and looked away. “Nothing,” she whispered.
“Just tell me Liz. I know you can’t be upset about me and Serena because we aren’t together. We haven’t been together in along time. You made sure of that.”
Liz turned to look at him, angry tears in her eyes. “So you could follow you’re destiny! Its how it was meant to be Max.”
“I told you I didn’t care about my supposed destiny but you just walked away from me. I kept coming back to you trying to show you that it didn’t matter but you didn’t care. You go off and sleep with Kyle off all-“
“I didn’t sleep with Kyle!” Liz got up angrily.
Max looked at her stunned. “What?”
“I didn’t sleep with Kyle.” Liz said quietly.
“But-but I saw-“
“You saw what I wanted you to see. I never slept with Kyle. I could never do that to you.”
“But why? Why would you-“
“About a month and a half ago I got a visitor from the future. It-it was you. Fourteen years from now. You told me that I needed to get you to fall out of love with me. The night of the Gomez concert we were going to cement our relationship in turn causing Tess to leave. We were going to elope when we turned nineteen and we were going to be married for fourteen wonderful years,” Liz said the tears streaming down her face. “Earth was going to be invaded and little by little everyone was dying. Isabel, Kyle, Michael. Everyone. Only because you three weren’t strong enough without Tess. You weren’t a complete unit. So, I pretended to sleep with Kyle in order to stop the end of the world.”
Max stared at Liz unable to believe she would do something like that to save them. Walking over to her he pulled her off the couch and crushed his lips to hers.

(Front of the Crashdown)
“Yo wat got into ya bro?” Lonnie asked her brother.
Zan shook his head keeping an eye on the back door. He knew she was telling him about Future Max but he didn’t know how to feel. He didn’t want to see Liz hurt because of Max and Serena and he was second guessing himself about leaving. You wanted to stay even if it was just to make her smile. Max had had sex with Serena, Zan could smell him on the brunette but he was keeping a tight reign on his anger. He wasn’t going to do anything rash like blast Max’s dick off. He’d let Liz do that. He vaguely heard Maria telling them what had been going on with Liz. Max and Liz had been back there a long time.
Getting up Zan walked to the back door he’d just check to see if Liz was okay. Opening the door slowly his heart stopped at the scene before him. Max and Liz were kissing, he was holding her in a tight embrace and Liz seemed to be enjoying it. He stepped back unable to bear the pain in his heart and walked right passed everyone and out the door.

***
At the end of the day faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don't really expect it. It's like one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And it's not so important happy ever after, just that it's happy right now. Hey guys! Barrowed my sister's computer to send an update. I'm gonna try to update my other stories soon.
Chapter 9
(Park)
Zan sat on the bench at the park breathing heavily. He closed his eyes tightly to try and get the image of Max and Liz kissing out of his head but it only made the picture clearer. Leaning forward with his head in his hands he let himself feel, and for the first time in his life Zan da man, King of Antar cried. He cried for the love he knew he’d never feel. He knew he’d lose her to him but the sight of them kissing, of Liz giving Max the love that he most coveted made his heart brake. It seemed like he was always getting the short end of the stick and he hated it. He hated feeling like the reject.
Taking a deep breath he wiped the tears from his eyes and stood up. He was done feeling sorry for himself. He’d get over this. He’d go back to New York were he belonged and leave Liz with the love of her life. He wasn’t going to let this get to him. He was the man. He didn’t need anyone.
~~~
(Back room at the Crash)
Liz was surprised when Max pulled her up and started to kiss her. It felt familiar and she couldn’t help but kiss him back. She kissed him waiting for the connection to open, for the flashes to come but they didn’t. She didn’t feel any of the things she expected to when they kissed. She had expected to feel the deep love and safety she usually felt but she didn’t. If anything she kinda felt the way she did when she used to kiss Kyle. She had affection for him and loved him to an extent but not in the mind numbing soul touching way you should feel when you’re in love.
“Max what are we doing?” Liz said pulling back.
Max looked down at her wondering why he didn’t feel her like he used to. He also noticed he hadn’t gotten flashes from her.
“Max, you and Serena are together now. You shouldn’t be kissing me.”
Max’s eyes widened. Serena. He’d forgotten about her. He knew she’d definitely get flashes of him and Liz. He stepped back and put his hands in his pockets. What was he going to do now? He really liked Serena but he loved Liz. Should he brake up with Serena? Would Liz take him back? He remembered their kiss and knew she would. They were meant to be. He just needed to find a way to let Serena down gently.
“Why don’t we go back outside and we’ll see what’s going to happen with everybody?” Liz suggested.
Max nodded and walked back outside. Liz went to follow but a small pain in her heart made her stop. She put her hand to her chest and took deep breaths until it stopped. She had a weird feeling like something was missing but she ignored it and walked out to where her friends were currently discussing what they were going to do.
~~~
“Um, so what are you guys going to do? Are you staying in Roswell?” Isabel asked Lonnie, Rath, and Ava.
Liz looked around. “Where’s Zan?”
“He bounced.” Rath answered.
“Why?” Liz was starting to get a bad feeling.
Every one shrugged not sure why Zan had left so abruptly.
“We ain’t stayin’. Zan wants ta go back to New York. We ain’t leavin’ ‘im by himself so we goin’ wit ‘im.” Lonnie answered Isabel’s question.
“We goin’ back? I thought we waz cool in Rozzy.” Ava said purposely not looking at Kyle. She didn’t want to leave him but if they all went back…
Rath and Lonnie shrugged. “We cool wit Rozzy but Zan don’ wanna be here. He said he missed New York.”
Ava felt her heart sink. She was going to have to leave Kyle and she didn’t want to. He was the first guy that had ever made her feel special and beautiful. She couldn’t leave him.
“I ain’t goin’ back.” Ava said grabbing Kyle’s hand.
“Aves, I don’ know if Zan--“
“Yous can stay Ava.” Zan said from the doorway cutting Lonnie off.
Liz looked up startled. She hadn’t even felt him come in. She tried to catch his eye but he wasn’t looking at her.
“Yeah?” Ava said looking at Zan happily.
Zan shrugged. “If ya want.”
She jumped up and threw herself at him giving him a big hug. She kissed him on the cheek and sat back down next to Kyle.
“If any of ya wanna stay jus let me know.” Zan said to Rath and Lonnie.
They both shook their heads. “Nah we goin’ wit ya.”
Zan nodded. “Aight, let’s go then.”
Liz felt her heart constrict. “So soon?” She said looking at Zan.
He finally met her eyes. Liz shivered. They looked cold, nothing like the warm, eyes that always held wicked humor in them.
Zan shrugged. “Ain’t nothin’ keeping’ us here.”
“But-but Lonnie and Rath should rest. They’ve been on the road for two days. You guys should stay…a while.” Liz argued.
Zan looked at Rath and Lonnie and noticed they did look tired. “Aigh’t. Ya rest and we leave tomorrow.”
“Okay so how are we going to do this? Who’s staying where?” Kyle asked.
Ava looked between Liz and Zan. Something wasn’t right between them. Zan was still at the doorway and looked everywhere but at Liz. Liz kept trying to catch his eye but failed. Something needed to be done.
“Lonnie, Rath, can stay wit Michael and Zan and me can stay wit Lizzie. Serena can-“
“Oh, I’ve got my own place.” Serena said speaking for the first time and cutting Ava off.
“Well, that’s settled then.” Kyle looked down at his watch. It was still kind of early to be going home. He whispered something to Ava and they got up.
“Um, we goin’ out. Don’ wait up.” Ava grinned.
Everyone watched Kyle and Ava leave. Lonnie had her eyebrow raised and Rath had his mouth hanging open.
“Close your mouth bro.” Michael said from the stool he was sitting in.
Lonnie yawned after a while. “Yo, I’m ma tired.”
“Come on I’ll take you guys to my apartment.” Michael said standing up.
Isabel got up and grabbed Alex’s hand. “We’re leaving too. Do you need a ride home Max?”
Max shook his head. He had promised to help Serena unpack her things in her new apartment. It’d be the perfect time to talk to her about how he felt. “No, I’m helping Serena unpack.”
“Is dat wat ya’ll call it nowadays?” Rath smirked. “An’ here I thought it waz called fuckin’ like bunnies.”
Liz turned wide eyes to Max. “Y-you …guys are sleeping together?”
The guilty look on Max’s face told her all she needed to know. Tears welled in her eyes and she ran through the back door and up the stairs.
Lonnie turned angry eyes at Rath and smacked him over the head. Maria walked up behind Michael and smacked him over the head too.
“Hey! What the hell was that for?” The both said at the same time rubbing the back of their heads.
“That waz cause yous don’ know how ta keep ya big mouth shut.” Lonnie said.
“And that was cause you didn’t tell him to keep his big mouth shut.” Maria said.
Zan watched the tears form in Liz’s eyes. Even though he told himself he wouldn’t let anything get to him he felt the anger of the day well up inside him. His eyes were glowing gold and he raised his hand pinning Max to the wall across the room.
He walked over to Max never withdrawing his hold on him. “Do you fuckin’ know how many fuckin’ times I’ve held Liz in ma arms cause you fuckin’ made ‘er cry.” Zan said in a calm voice. Rath and Lonnie looked fearfully at Zan knowing that this was only the calm before the storm. “Do you even fuckin’ think! She saved the fuckin’ world fo yo ass and you off fuckin’ some bitch in New York!”
Serena raised her hand ready to attack but Zan wasn’t having it. With a wave of his hand a blue shield surrounded her.
Max was holding his hand to his neck struggling for air. “I don’t know why she still put up wit yo shit but she fuckin’ loves you. She’s been hurt enough and she don’ need you fuckin’ wit her head. If you love her an’ wanna be wit her than start makin’ some fuckin’ good choices. If I hear you made her cry again I ain’t gonna be so fuckin’ nice to you.” Zan snarled releasing his hold on Max.
He didn’t bother to look at anyone in the room. He walked towards the back door waving his hand to remove the shield before he walked through the doors and up the stairs.
~~~
(Liz’s room)
Liz laid in her bed her cheeks wet from tears. How could he have done that to her? Did he hate her that much that he would betray the supposed love they used to have by sleeping with someone he met a week ago? Liz let the tears fall when Maria’s words drifted into her mind. Love isn’t supposed to hurt this much. Why did it feel like loving Max had hurt her more than make her feel good? It had been such a long time since she’d actually laughed with him. Been happy with him.
Her thoughts went automatically to Zan and a smile crossed her face, her sweet Zan with his wicked smile and wonderful sense of humor. Liz frowned when she remembered how cold and distant he was downstairs. She got the same pang in her heart again and felt the emptiness inside her like if something was missing.
“You aigh’t Liz?”
Liz jumped and turned to her doorway. There stood Zan his face grim and his eyes the same cold solid gold color they were downstairs. She hadn’t even known he was there. She noticed he hadn’t called her by the nickname he’d given her since the first day they met.
Liz wiped her wet cheeks and nodded.
They stood in silence for a long time before Liz finally spoke. “Are you okay Zan?”
“Why wouldn’ I be okay?”
“I-you seem different.”
“Yea, well I’m goin’ through some changes.” Zan shrugged nonchalantly.
Liz nodded wondering where the Zan she knew was hiding.
“Everyone bounced downstairs so…I’ll be on the couch.” Zan turned and left without a backwards glance.
HEY GUYS!! Thanks for all the FB! All right this part is short but I've got the other part written down just waiting for me to type it! I'll probably update later on tonight. I'm trying to update all my stories today. Hope you enjoy!
Chapter 10
(Serena’s Apartment)
Serena glanced at Max for the third time since they got to her new apartment. He was quiet well more than usual and seemed distracted. Standing up from the floor where she was rummaging through on of the boxes she walked over to Max and sat down on his lap.
“What’s wrong?”
Max looked into Serena’s deep purple eyes and opened his mouth to tell her he needed to break up with her, but he couldn’t do it. Not now when he still needed to think about Liz and his lack of connection. He needed to talk to Liz about their relationship before he ruined something that could be good for him.
“Nothing, just thinking about everything.”
Serena nodded. She leaned in and gave him a kiss but pulled back quickly. “You kissed her?”
Max sighed and tightened his hold on her when she made to get off his lap. “I’m sorry. It was just an impulse after she told me everything that happened.”
Max explained what Liz told him about future Max. Serena listened fascinated by the power of the Granilith. Max finished the story and started placing small kisses along her jaw. He needed to feel like he was connected to someone. He needed to feel like he used to when he was with Liz.
(Liz’s house)
Liz lay on her bed looking up at the ceiling. Her tears had long since dried but the emptiness she felt in her heart was still there. She needed to talk to someone. Picking up the phone she dialed the familiar number.
“Lo’.” Came the groggy voice.
“Um, hey Maria.”
“What’s wrong?” Maria said automatically alert.
“Nothing. Nothing. I just-I needed to talk to someone.”
“Spill it chica.”
“I-Max and I kissed and…”
“And? Are you guys back together?”
“No! I mean he has Serena and I…”
“Liz, just let it out.”
“I didn’t feel it Maria.”
“Feel what?”
Liz sighed. “When Max used to kiss me, I felt like I’ve come home. Like in his arms I’d be forever safe because we loved each other.”
“And Now?”
“Now I didn’t feel anything. No flashes, no connection, nothing.”
“Hmm. Interesting.”
“That’s all you have to say? Interesting?” Liz said exasperated.
“I mean I’d hate to say I told you so but…”
“Maria, what are you talking about?”
“I told you Max wasn’t your soul mate.”
“I’ve been having these weird feelings. Like I’m missing something.” Liz said after a moment of silence.
“What?”
“I don’t know.”
“Is it like your favorite shirt or something?”
“No, nothing like that. It’s like…inside. I can’t explain it. I don’t know I’m just confused. I don’t know what to feel anymore.”
“How’s Zan?”
Maria’s question took her by surprise. “He’s sleeping on the couch.”
“Okay let me get this straight. You’re alone in your house with Mr. Sex in a jar just few feet away and you’re sitting here talking to me?”
“Something’s up with Zan too. He’s different all of a sudden.”
“I’ll say. You should’ve seen what he did to Max after you left.”
“What did he do?”
Liz’s eyes widened after Maria explained.
“He said that?”
“Yeah. He was really scary he was like glowing all over.”
“I can’t believe he did that.” Liz murmured to herself.
“What do you mean you can’t believe he did that?” Maria said angrily. “The man loves you Liz. HE. LOVES. YOU,” she said loudly and clearly.
“Maria-“
“No Liz. I’m your best friend in the world and I want to see you happy. Zan does that. He makes you happy. Why can’t you see that? Why are you still dwelling on someone who clearly has no idea what he does to you? How he hurts you?”
He loved her. Liz thought about everything Zan had done for her over the past few weeks. How he made her smile when she was sad, how he held her when she cried…he loved her.
“I gotta go Maria.”
Maria sighed. “Liz, just whatever you do promise me you’ll be happy for once.”
Liz smiled. “Okay.”
“All right. I’ll see ya tomorrow chica.”
“Kay. Night.”
“Night.”
Liz got up from the bed and walked out to the living room. Zan was sprawled on the couch snoring softly. Liz smiled noting that Ava was the one that snored like a trucker. She stood by the couch watching him sleep. He looked so young and peaceful and beautiful…and he was leaving tomorrow. She was never going to see him again. Never going to feel his strong arms surrounding her, hear his husky voice, feel his lips on hers. As if a light bulb went off in her head she knew. Zan. Zan was what was missing. She couldn’t sense him anymore. The automatic connection they had since he kissed her was gone. It was like he’d blocked her from his mind. Was she so clueless that she didn’t even feel him pulling back from her? Why would he do that? Zan shifted and one of his legs fell of the side of the couch. Making a quick decision Liz climbed on the couch between his open legs. Laying her head on his chest; with the warmth of his body and the steady beating of his heart she fell asleep.”
Zan opened his eyes when he felt her weight on him. He looked down at her peacefully sleeping form, her hand holding tight onto his wife beater as if she never wanted to let go. She squirmed slightly and his arms automatically went around her. Zan savored the feeling of having her in his arms knowing it’d be the last time. He watched her sleep for a long time memorizing every feature so when he was asleep at night alone in his bed he’d see her. He ran his fingers through her silky brown hair fanned out on his chest.
“You so beautiful cherry,” Zan murmured, liking the feel of her soft hair. “You don’t know how much I fuckin’ love ya sweets…I know you love ma dupe baby. Don’ worry I ain’t getting’ into that. I told ‘im to take care of ya or I’d beat the shit outta him…he’ll take care of ya if he know wat’s good for ‘im…I’ma miss you cherry. Yous ma best friend.” Zan continued to play with her hair unaware that she’d been awake throughout the entire speech.
Chapter 10
(Serena’s Apartment)
Serena glanced at Max for the third time since they got to her new apartment. He was quiet well more than usual and seemed distracted. Standing up from the floor where she was rummaging through on of the boxes she walked over to Max and sat down on his lap.
“What’s wrong?”
Max looked into Serena’s deep purple eyes and opened his mouth to tell her he needed to break up with her, but he couldn’t do it. Not now when he still needed to think about Liz and his lack of connection. He needed to talk to Liz about their relationship before he ruined something that could be good for him.
“Nothing, just thinking about everything.”
Serena nodded. She leaned in and gave him a kiss but pulled back quickly. “You kissed her?”
Max sighed and tightened his hold on her when she made to get off his lap. “I’m sorry. It was just an impulse after she told me everything that happened.”
Max explained what Liz told him about future Max. Serena listened fascinated by the power of the Granilith. Max finished the story and started placing small kisses along her jaw. He needed to feel like he was connected to someone. He needed to feel like he used to when he was with Liz.
At the end of the day faith is a funny thing. It turns up when you don't really expect it. It's like one day you realize that the fairy tale may be slightly different than you dreamed. The castle, well, it may not be a castle. And it's not so important happy ever after, just that it's happy right now. See once in a while, once in a blue moon, people will surprise you, and once in a while people may even take your breath away
