My mouth drops open and I look at Chris like he really looks like an alien. "Chris," I hiss at him.

~MICHAEL~

Ok, my kid is just full of surprises. His admissions cause my anger to deflate and I'm back to self-doubt. Turning to Roxie, I say, "Get out of this room and wait in Eliza's room. I'm calling your father."

I laugh at Liz's statement. "Yeah, vacation, I wish. Maybe when all of our kids move out."

"Chris, it's ok. We can talk later." I'm kind of relieved that Michael's going to call my parents. If everyone's going to be in trouble, I might as well be too. Then maybe eventually, I can find out what's going on.

~MICHAEL~

I snort at Roxie's statement. "Not for a while. Chris is grounded along with both of his brothers. Hand over your keys son. Your mother and I have agreed that until you can all prove yourselves responsible, nobody gets access to a vehicle." I hold out my hand for the keys.

~LIZ~

I smile at his reply. It's good to hear Max laugh again. "Well, ok, maybe a vacation is a bit much to hope for right now but how about a romantic night for two?"

I never would have thought when we started having kids that I'd end up being the softer of the two parents, but my kids know that I am, especially with Eliza. She's my only girl and I watch over her like a hawk but she's got me wrapped around her little finger. That's what makes this so hard. "I'm sorry, son. The fact that I've never had to ground you is what makes me so disappointed in you now. It's not a permanent solution and the sooner you start talking about what's been going on with you and your brothers lately, especially you, the lighter your sentence will be." I glance at Roxie who hasn't moved yet. "Get going!" I bark at her. When she scoots for the door, I turn back to Chris. "I'm going to go call Max and let him know that his two daughters are over here. That'll give you some time to think about what you want to do...talk to me or spend the rest of your youth in your room."

When Michael yells at me, I quickly move for the door and flash Chris one last smile before heading down the hall to Eliza's room.

"I'll talk to you." I say as I hand over the car keys. Out of my whole family, I take punishment lightly. I'm muture enough to know went to quit when I'm ahead. If I'm getting punished for things I know I did were wrong, I have no other choice but to respcet my parents decisions. It really does hurt to know that I disapointed my father.

"I'm sorry, Dad." I say while scratching my eyebrow. Like I said it's a gesture we have in common.

That sounds more like the Chris I know. I take the keys from him and say, "Hey, it isn't the end of the world. I'll be back in just a minute or two so we can talk. I gotta call Max first, though." I walk to the door and turn back, "By the way, you and Roxie looked a little more cozy than normally. Any good news there?"
