I walk out of my room and hear, "Hey, Tess." I look to see who has called my name and see Kyle with two people I've never seen before. "Whats up, Kyle?" I ask walking over to them.
"Wanna show the new guy where his room is?" He says and I look the new guy over. He's pretty cute."If so, he's roomed next to Michael." I nod my head, "Sure. I'm Tess." I say looking at the newbies. "Welcome to Mutant High." I say with a slight laugh.

I watch, a little subdued as Kyle yells over to one of the professors about our rooms. I'd probably never call one of my teachers by their first names, because I'd be worried I'd bet in trouble. Well, apparently not here. This place is looking better by the minute.
He stops at Riley's room, and the girl next door, Tess greets us; they must be friends. "Hey, Tess. Wanna show the new guy where his room is? If so, he's roomed next to Michael." He tells her, and I use the time to take a look at her. She's cute. I mean, she's blonde, and has a really adorable smile on her face. I wouldn't mind being shown around by her.
"Sure. I'm Tess. Welcome to Mutant High." She says, laughing, and I grin at her. Well, I suppose that's one way to put it.
"I'm Nick, and this is Riley," I say again. I'll probably be repeating it for a while, being new.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, too. Well, lets go show you, your room." Tess, says, before looking over her shoulder to offer Riley assistance later. She seems nice.
"So," I start, once we're heading up the stairs. "Is everyone here so nice? Or are you all softening us up before you attack," I joke, smiling at her. I've never felt this welcome at school before.

"Oh, yes we're all just waiting for the right moment to pounce on you." She says, and I catch the sarcasm. Well, she's got a sense of humor. That's good.
"See, I was right. I'm more perceptive than I seem," I add, chuckling. When we get to the top of the stairs, I hold the hallway door for her. "So, which way?"

"Yeah, pretty much," I say with a shrug. "It started when I got really upset. There were a couple times I woke up and found my sheet shreaded and I didn't know why. The first time that I knew about it, I'd been walking home from the store and I saw these two kids race into the street after a ball. Of course there was a massive truck coming down the road. I leapt out to do something and found myself in the body of a lion. It was pretty freaky at first, but it worked. The truck stopped and the kids were safe. I had to run and hide until I'd calmed myself enough to turn back to human."
I bite my lip, sure now that I have said too much. God, why can't I just answer the short question without going on and on?
"Now I can do it without having to work myself up," I finish a bit lamely.

"Here we are." She says, pointing left and walking that way. We get to the door, and when she opens it I'm surprised. It's nice. I mean, really nice. I was expecting a sort of college dorm room or something, with a rinky little bed, and maybe a dresser. But these are big, and really nicely furnished, with comfortable beds.
Throwing my bags on the bed with ease, I smile at her. "Thanks a lot." I start rummaging through my bag and pull out my radio, setting it on the bedside table.
"So, you been here long? Kyle seems like he's familiar with the teachers."

I listen to her story with interest. My discovery wasn't all that exciting. The whole full moon thing started when I was twelve, and I've been dealing with it ever since. I just woke up one morning outside my room in the middle of the woods, and had dreams about it that night. And when I really thought about it, escpecially the day right before and right after the full moon, I could change.
"That's good, that you can control it. I mean, now that it's been a few years, I can change when I want to, but I lose most control on the full moons. My parents built this little shed in the backyard, and we moved near a forest to help out," I tell her, feeling a little out in the open. I've never really had someone who could relate, you know? It's not a usual topic.
"Are there a lot of, um, shifters here? Like us? Or, well, more like you, but you know what I mean."
