Chapter 20

“This place is amazing,” Liz said, a wide smile gracing her features as she sat down at the table for two that Brendan had asked for. The table overlooked the Brooklyn bridge just as the sun was starting to go down.

“That’s why I chose it.” Brendan said, a smile on his own face.

“Here you go,” The waiter said, placing a bottle of wine on the table. “Our finest wine.” He placed two wine glasses on the table.

“Thank you,” Liz said politely as the waiter smiled and walked off.

“So, apart from your dad flying in town today,” Liz said as Brendan poured her a glass of wine. “How was your day?”

“I’ve had better day’s.” Brendan replied. “I’m just happy to be here with you tonight.”

“Well, so am I.” Liz answered.

“So, what about you?” Brendan asked, taking a small sip of his wine. “Did you have fun with that Kyle guy?”

“We talked.” Liz answered. “I hadn’t seen him in year’s,”

“And you two went to High school together?” He asked.

“Yeah,” Liz said, “We dated Freshman year although it didn’t last very long.”

“You know,” Brendan said. “I realized today, seeing you with Kyle, that I don’t know much about you’re past. I mean, I know the basics and all, I know that you left Roswell when you we’re seventeen, but other than that, I just don’t know that much.”

“I know,” Liz answered with a small sighed. “It’s just that, my past is something I don’t really like to talk about very much, even Serena and Rachel don’t know much about it.”

“Something bad must of happened if you don’t like to talk about it then,” Brendan spoke softly. “Look, I know this is gonna sound real cheesy, but, you know that I love you right? And you know that you can tell me anything.”

“I know that.” Liz said guiltily. God, this guy was almost perfect! He deserved to know about her, he deserved to know about her past. Okay, so maybe not about the alien part, but about her relationship with Max and about Tess coming to town and about Alex dying.

“I...” Liz started, unsure of where to start. There was just so much to say. “I fell in love with this guy,” She said, taking a deep breath. “I was sixteen year’s old, it was right about the time where Kyle and I broke up. His name was Max. Max Evans. And I loved him and I know that he loved me too.” She paused slightly before continuing. “Anyway’s, this girl came to town. He name was Tess, and, she was someone...from Max’s past.”

“So he left you for her?” Brendan asked.

“No,” Liz said, “Not really. It’s just that thing’s got really complicated between us and I sort of pushed him away. He landed up sleeping with her and getting her pregnant.”

“I’m so sorry.” Brendan said sincerely. “It must of hurt when you found out.”

Liz let out a small dry laugh. “Actually, I only found out about it yesterday.”

“What?” Brendan asked, suddenly confused.

“Yeah, Max’s father is a Lawyer and he’s attending the same meeting that you are.” Liz explained. “The man from this morning, Philip Evans.”

“Wait, what?” Brendan said. “<I>That’s</I> Max’s father? And Max Evans is <i>here</I> in New York City?”

“Yup,” Liz answered sadly. “Philip Evans brought the entire family. Max, his sister Isabel, and Max’s seven year old son, Zan.”

“The little boy from this morning?” Brendan asked, realization quickly dawning on him.

“Yeah, that’s him.” Liz said.

“God, Liz, why didn’t you say anything before?” Brendan asked.

“I...I wasn’t sure how to tell you, Brendan.” Liz said. “I’m sorry, I know I should of told you all of this a really long time ago. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, I’m sorry.”

Brendan let out a small sighed. “No, it’s okay. I understand that you didn’t want to talk about you’re past. Only what I don’t understand is why you left Roswell, you just said that you didn’t know that Max had slept with that girl, Tess.”

“That’s true.” Liz said, “See, I was also dealing with the loss of one of my best friend back then,” Liz said. “His name was Alex and he died in a car crash. Or so that’s what everybody thought. See, when he died I was convinced that he had been...killed. But nobody believe me. Sooner or later my friends started turning away from me because they just thought I ad turned into some sort of crazy person or something.”

“So that’s why you left,” Brendan said.

“Well, yes.” Liz said. “Kind of. The night I left Roswell, Max and I got into this huge fight and that’s when I realized that I had had enough of all that crap. So I left Roswell and landed up in San Francisco.”

“And what about you’re friend, Alex?” Brendan asked. “Was he or was he not killed in car crash after all?”

“He wasn’t.” Liz answered. “I...I talked to Max today. And he told me what really happened to Alex.”

“You talked to Max?” Brendan said, a quick look of jealousy overcoming his face. “Okay, not the point I get it. So what did he tell you about Alex.”

“A short while after I left Roswell, Max and the other’s found out that Tess had been the one who killed him.” Liz said, tear’s forming in her eye’s but she quickly blinked them away.

“Oh, my God, Liz.” Brendan said, “This is big. This is <i>really</I> big. You should of told me about all of this.”

“I know, I know.” Liz said. “I’m so sorry that I didn’t tell you before. I don’t know <i>why</I> I didn’t, I guess I was just...scared of what you we’re going to think of me.”

“Liz,” Brendan said, looking Liz in the eye.”I love you, I don’t care what happened in your past it’s not going to make me love you any less.”

“You’re amazing, you know that?” Liz asked, smiling at him as he reached out to take her hand from across the table.

“I’ll have the Double Cheeseburger with extra bacon, mayo and I want the fries with that too.” Michael said, handing over the menu to the waitress that was busy jotting down everything Michael had just ordered on her notebook.

“Alright,” The waitress said, taking the menu for Michael. “I’ll be back with your order’s in a short while.”

“Michael you’re a pig.” Isabel said, taking a sip of her water.

“I’m <i>hungry</I>” Michael said, “All I had to eat today was those stupid peanuts on the plane.”

“Daddy, you didn’t take much to eat.” Zan said, looking up at his father who sat beside him at the table. “Aren’t you hungry?”

“Um, you’re right, daddy’s not really hungry tonight.” Max answered his son.

“Hey, you know what?” Kyle said, trying to lighten the mood. “We should go see a movie. Movies usually make me feel better and they make me forget about all the stuff that’s going on.”

“I’m up for that.” Michael said.

“I’m tired.” Maria answered. “I just want to go to bed.”

“Same here,” Max said, “But, thanks for offering.”

“I wanna go see a movie.” Zan pouted as he looked at his dad.

“I wouldn’t ming a movie either.” Isabel said. “So, why don’t Michael, Isabel, Zan, and I go see a movie and you two can head back to the hotel to get some sleep.”

“Nah, if Maria’s not going, then I’ll just head back to the hotel with her.” Michael said, glancing at Maria who sat by his side.

“Okkay, then.” Kyle said. “Then it’ll be just me, Zan, and Isabel. You’re still on for the movie, right Iz?” He asked, turning to Isabel.

Isabel shrugged, “Sure, I’m still up for a movie.”

“Good,” Kyle said.

“I don’t want to go to the movies without daddy,” Zan said slowly, taking a look at his dad. “I wanna with daddy.”

“Oh, no, Zan,” Max said, forcing a smile on his face. “You go with Aunt Isabel and Uncle Kyle, okay? You go and have fun, daddy’s gonna go back to hotel.”

“Okay, then.” Zan said. “We can go see the movie, Kyle.”

Kyle smiled. “Alright, movie it is.”

*************************************************************

“Where are you taking me?” Liz asked, laughing as Brendan pulled her by the arm. Brendan led the way across the street towards the entrance of the Empire State Building.

“Just follow me,” Brendan said as he continued towards the entrance of the building.

“Brendan, what are we doing?” Liz asked, “The place is closed!”

“Not to me it isn’t.” Brendan answered with a smile. As they approached the building, Liz could see a man waiting for them at the front.

“Mr. Harris,” The man said as he opened the door for them.

“Oh my, God.” Liz said, “I can’t believe we’re doing this!”

“Take it easy,” Brendan said, laughing at the look on Liz’s face. “This isn’t illegal, I have the permission to do this.”

Once they we’re inside the building, Brendan led her towards the elevator. Once they we’re inside Brendan pressed the button that would take them all the way to the top and then closed the elevator door’s behind them.

“You know, you are looking pretty damn fine tonight in that red dress,” Brendan said as he wrapped both his arm’s around her waist.

“Why, thank you, Mr. Harris.” Liz said, turning her body so that she was facing him. She stood on her tip-toes and pressed her lips to his.

The door’s to the elevator opened several minutes later and Brendan broke the kiss. “Here we are.” He said, taking Liz’s hand in his own and taking her outside.

“Oh my, God.” Liz said as she took a look around. The sun had finally set just about an hour ago and the stars had slowly begun to appear in the night sky. They’re we’re no words to describe what she was seeing, it was just so...beautiful.

“This is amazing,” Liz said, choked up. She stepped towards the railing and looked down. New York City was simply gorgeous at night, the entire town was lit up with all those city lights. Liz could see the stature of liberty from afar from where she stood.

“This is beautiful,” Liz said, looking around. “I can’t believe you would do this for me, Brendan."

“Well you are so worth it,” Brendan smiled, “I just want you to know how much I love you and how much you mean the world to me. I don’t know what I’d be without you, Liz Parker. One thing’s for sure, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. You’re the one for me, Liz, and I want to be you for the rest of my life. I want to go to bed by your side everynight and I want to wake up by your side every morning.”

Liz watched as Brendan smiled at her and then slowly began to kneel down in front of her. Liz’s eye’s widened in shock as he reached inside his pocket and took out a small box. With one small gesture he opened the small black box revealing a beautiful ring.

“Elizabeth Parker," He said, "Will you marry me?”

Chapter.Twenty One

Oh my, God.” Liz gasped.

She couldn’t believe that this was happening. God, Brendan proposing to her was the <i>last</I> she had expected to happen this weekend. Actually, scratch that. Seeing Max and the rest of the gang was the last thing she had expected to happen this weekend. But this was huge! mHow could this be happening? Brendan <i>proposing</i> to her? She wasn’t ready for this! Sure she liked Brendan, and a big part of her loved him too, but, this was just so unexpected.

“I-” She said, “Brendan, I can’t believe this. I...wasn’t expecting this to happen, and, I guess I’m just really overwhelmed right now, I don’t know what to say.”

“Say yes,” Brendan said gently. "I mean, we have been together for a little over two year's now and, I love you, Liz."

“And I love you, too,” Liz said, tear's forming in her eye's. “But I mean, now? I just wasn't expecting this.”

For God’s sake, Liz, A voice in the back of her heard practically shouted. You know you love him, or at least you want to love him. Just say yes, it’s not like you and Max will ever have a chance together again. It’s never going to happen. At least Brendan loves you and he wants to be there for you. He won’t break you’re heart. He won’t go around sleeping with an alien killer and then get her pregnant. Brendan really loves you, Liz. Say yes. Just say yes.

“What do you say, Liz.?” Brendan asked, giving her a hand a small squeeze. "Will you marry me?"

Liz cracked a small smile. “Of course I’ll marry you, Brendan.”

Brendan’s face broke into a huge smile as he took the beautiful ring and slid it onto her finger. He rose to his feet, cupping the sides of her face with his hand, he placed a long passionate kiss on her lips.

“I love you, Liz.” Brendan said, wrapping his arms around her. “I promise you, you won’t regret this.”

“I love you, too,” Liz answered. "And I know I won't regret this either."

Or, Hell, she hoped so.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

“No way, I can’t believe she actually married that guy!” Isabel said, making a face as she grabbed her jacket from the seat next to her’s. “That was a terrible movie, I can’t believe you brought us to see this.”

“Hey, I liked it.” Kyle answered. “God, Iz, you don’t like anything.” He turned to look at Xander. “What about you big guy,” He asked, taking the little boy’s hand in his, guiding him towards the exit of the theater.

“I liked it,” Xander answered with a small shrug.

“See,” Kyle said, glancing at Isabel. “Xander liked it.”

“Oh, come on.” Isabel said. “The movie had no point, Kyle. That was just about the lamest ending I’ve ever seen and I just cannot believe she married him!”

“Love is a crazy thing.” Kyle replied. “Come on, let’s get back to the hotel before Max freaks out about us being gone for too long.”

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Max sat around in his hotel room, flipping the channels of the television, trying to find something he liked only he could barely concentrate, his thoughts kept flying back to Liz. He simply couldn’t get his mind off of her. God how she had looked beautiful with those brown eye’s and long brown hair. It was eating him up inside that he couldn’t even be with her anymore. He hated himself so badly right now for everything he had done. She deserved so much more than him.

“Daddy?” A small voice called out as the door opened and Xander entered. “Hi!” He squealed, throwing himself at his dad.

“Hey, there.” Max said, picking his son up in his arms. “How was the movie?”

“Aunt Izzy didn’t like it,” Xander said, “Kyle liked it though. And I liked it too. Aunt Izzy didn’t like the ending.”

“We had fun,” Isabel said as she came inside the room with Kyle by her side.

“That’s good,” Max said,

“Anyway’s, we’ll see you tommorow morning.” Isabel said “Goodnight, Xan.” She walked over and placed a small kiss on Zan’s cheek. “Goodnight, Max.”

She turned and walked out the door, Kyle right behind her, closing the door shut behind him.

“Okay, Xander,” Max said, “It’s bedtime, let’s get to bed.”

“But, daddy, I’m not tired.” Xander whined, wrapping his arm’s around Max’s neck.

“You’re not tired?” Max asked in mock horror. “But it’s almost 10 oclock!”

“I know, daddy,” Xander replied. “But I’m just not tired. Are <i>you</I> tired, daddy?”

“Yes,” Max answered sincerely. “I am. And we have a big day tommorow.”

“Okay, then.” Zan said. “Let’s go to bed. I am <i>kind</i> of sleepy.”

“Okay,” Max said with a small laugh. “Come on, go put on your pyjama’s and then we’re going straight to bed.”

“Ooh!” Xander said excitedly as he looked at the bed. “I get to sleep in the same bed with you tonight!”

“Yeah,” Max answered, smiling at his son’s enthusiasm.

Xander slid off the bed and hurried to the bathroom. Minutes later her came back out, all dressed in his pyjama’s. He hopped onto the bed.

“Did you brush your teeth?” Max asked, closing the tv shut using the remote control and the light.

“Of course,” Xander replied, sliding under the cover’s next to his father. “I always brush my teeth, daddy, you know that.” He paused. “Daddy?”

“Yeah?” Max asked, turning his head towards his son even though he couldn’t see anything because of the darkness.

“Daddy... why we’re you all sad today?” Xander asked.

“I wasn’t sad.” Max lied quickly.

“Yes you were.” Zan said. “You were really sad.”

Max didn’t know what to answer. He couldn’t believe it had been that obvious, had he looked <i>that</I> desperate all day long?

“Is it because of mommy?” Xander asked. “You’re sad because of Liz, right? Is it because I said she was my mommy?”

“I-” Max started, shocked at what Xanderan had just said. He had no idea what the heck was going on but he was going to get to the bottom of it, that he was sure of. “Xan, what do you mean by that? <i>Why</I> do you think that Liz is your mother? What did you see to make you think that?”

“I don’t know,” Xander answered with a small shrug. “I can’t explain what I when I touched her. But I just <i>know</I> that she’s my real mommy.”

“I- I don’t know what to say.” Max whispered softly. “Xan, I don’t know it that’s even possible. For Liz to be your mother. I- I wish. I wish that she could be. I wish that so much. I wish that she could of stayed with us in Roswell and I also wish that we could of all lived together. Like one big happy family. But, I know that it will never happen.”

“Why not?” Xander asked curiously. “Why did she even leave home in the first place.”

“Because daddy made her sad.” Max replied. “I didn’t- I didn’t listen to her enough. But I should of. If only I would of listened to her. If only I would of stood by her side when she needed someone the most. Maybe she wouldn’t of left home.” He was trying desperately not to let his emotions get the best of him right now. The last thing he wanted was to start crying in front of his son.

“It’s okay, daddy.” Xander said, trying to reassure his father. “It’s okay.”

Max smiled slightly as his son reached out and gave him a hug.

*************************************************************

“So, you and Liz actually had a decent conversation?” Isabel asked as the two walked down the quiet hallway of the Hotel.

“Yeah,” Kyle said. “It was pretty cool. We went downstairs to the café place and we talked for a good half hour.”

“That’s good.” Isabel said. “Do you think Maria will be okay? I mean, she’s been quiet pretty much all day long which is <i>really</I> not like her if you know what I mean.”

“Yeah,” Kyle said with a small sigh. “I know what you mean. And I think she’ll come around. It’s hard on her, you know. Liz was her best friend, they’d known each other since they were barely six year’s old. Maria had just lost Alex and then Liz left town.”

“Yeah,” Isabel said. “Max isn’t doing so good either. Not that I’m sticking up for him either, I mean, he made mistakes, now I guess he has to deal with them.”

*************************************************************

Serena grabbed her purse from the bar counter and quickly grabbed some chance to hand over to the bar tender.

“Have a good night, Ma’am.” The bartender said as he took the money from her. She nodded curtly before turning and heading out the front door of the Club. It was only ten thirty at night but the Club was quickly filling up. People were standing outside, waiting patiently to get inside. The sun was long gone and it was now getting slightly chilly outside, which was kind of unusual for San Francisco.

She reached once more inside her purse and dug out her key’s. She made it to her car that was parked several blocks down from the Club. Once she got to her car, she reached out to unlock the car with her keys but in the process dropping her keys to the floor. She let out a small grunt as she bent down to pick up the key’s that were lying on the floor.

<I>Damn key’s,</I> She thought as she straightened back up, key’s in hand, <i>Why the hell do I even bother taking the damn car when I could simply use my-</I> Before she could finish her thought, she felt a rough hand across her mouth. God, someone was attacking her! She couldn’t even turn to see who her attacker was. The next thing she knew, everything went black.

Ch. Twenty-two

Max awoke the next morning, the sun was shining in his room brightly, almost blinding him. He let out a small grunt and lifted himself up. Xander was sitting up on the bed next to him, watching cartoons.

“Hey, daddy.” He said, not taking his gaze off of the screen.

“Hey, Xan.” Max said groggily. “How long have you been up?”

“Bout’ ten minutes,” He replied. “Are we going for breakfast?”

“Of course,” Max answered, swinging his legs off the bed. He got up and slipped on the first black shirt he saw. He walked inside the washroom, changing into a pair of jeans and making sure his hair looked decent enough to go out in public.

“I’m all dressed already,” Xander called from the other room. “Do you want me to go get Aunt Izzy!?”

“No, it’s okay.” Max replied quickly, glancing at the clock. It was only 9:30. Knowing Isabel, she was probably still fast asleep at this hour. “Your Aunt’s probably still sleeping, we don’t want to wake her up or she’ll be grouchy all day.”

“Okay,” Xander answered as Max stepped out of the washroom. “Come on, sweetie, let’s go eat breakfast just you and me, okay?”

“Okay, daddy.” Xander said, hoping off the bed. “I’m starving!”

“Good,” Max said, smiling down at his son as the two walked out of the room.

**************************************************************************************

Brendan was sleeping peacefully on the bed when Liz placed a small kiss on his cheek. She was fully dressed, wearing a pair of jeans and a simple white tank top. She had woken up about half an hour ago and had decided to take a quick shower and change before heading down to grab some breakfast. She wasn’t sure if she should wake up but finally decided against the idea, she was going to let him sleep.

She slowly got off the bed and grabbed her purse from the desk. She then headed towards the door, slipping out of the room as quietly as she could, not wanting to wake him up.

Her fiancé.

She glanced down at the gleaming, gorgeous ring on her finger. God, would she ever get used to this? She was going to get <i>married</I>. She <i>still</i> couldn’t believe that Brendan had proposed to her! And she couldn’t believe she had accepted his marriage proposal! It’s not that she didn’t love Brendan. She did. She <i>really</I> did love him. It’s just, ever since she had seen Max again....

She let her thoughts trail off as she entered the lobby. She headed towards the small café near the back of the hotel.

**************************************************************************************

“Here!” Xander exclaimed as he let go of his father’s hand and ran off towards one of the tables near the back of the café. “I want this table.” He said as he climbed on the chair.

Max smiled as he took a seat across from his son. “N ice choice of table.” He told his son. “Now, what do you want to eat this morning? You know, we <i>could</i> of gone somewhere else to eat breakfast. We don’t have to eat muffins here every morning.”

“But the muffins here are good!” Xander answered his father, a small grin on his boyish face. “Especially the chocolate muffins. And the chocolate milk!”

“Yeah, the coffee’s pretty good here I have to admit.” Max said, picking up the newspaper on the table. He scanned the front page and then dropped the newspaper back on the table, not really interested in reading it right now.

“Look, daddy.” Xander said suddenly, looking up from the table and past Max’s shoulder. “Look.” He repeated, urging Max to turn around.

Max turned around, curious to know what it is that had Xander all excited. Max slowly turned around, and what- <i>who</I> he saw made his insides churn.

<i>Liz</I>

**************************************************************************************

Liz entered the small quiet café. The place was practically empty. Well it was only 9:40 in the morning, some people were still sleeping and others had actually gone out for breakfast instead of eating down here.

She looked around, unsure of where to sit when all of a sudden she spotted Max’s son from across the room, he was staring directly at her. And sitting across from her was none other than Max himself.

He turned around and stared directly at her.

Liz froze, unsure of what to do now. She couldn’t just ignore him and get out of here. She had to act like an adult.

So she walked across the small café, heading straight for the two of them. She was just going to go and say hi and then she would go sit far across the room from them.

“Hi,” She said, forcing a small smile on her face. She didn’t look Max straight in the eye’s. She simply couldn’t do it.

“Hi, Liz.” Max almost choked out. “How are you?”

“I’m fine,” Liz answered, still not looking him in the eye. “How are you two?” She asked, looking at Xander and smiling at the small boy.

“We’re good,” Max answered. <i>Dammnit, Max, take control of yourself.</I> He thought to himself. He was practically shaking out of nervousness.

“Liz, you have to sit with us!” Xander exclaimed as he jumped off the chair, grabbed her hand and led her towards the empty chair next to his own.

Great. She couldn’t say no now, could she!?

She took a seat next to Xander, who hopped back up onto his chair. “Daddy and I came here to eat breakfast. Did you come down here to eat breakfast, too?”

“Um,” Liz said, clearing her throat. “Yeah, actually I did.”

“Good,” Xander beamed happily. “Then you can have breakfast with us. Daddy was just about to go order me a muffin and a big glass of chocolate milk. Do <i>you</I> like chocolate milk or do you like milk better?”

“Both,” Liz answered Xander with a smile. “I like both.”

“And do you like chocolate muffins?” Xander asked, tilting his head to the side.

“Actually I prefer blueberry muffins.” Liz told him. “But chocolate muffins are okay.”

“My daddy likes blueberry muffins more than chocolate muffins, too.” Xander explained. He turned to his father, “Daddy, you have to go get us all two blueberry muffins and one chocolate for me. And you have to go get us three glasses of chocolate milk.”

Max looked shyly at Liz. “Um, Xan, sweetie, I’m sure Liz doesn’t want to be here.”

Xander looked from Max and then to Liz. “Liz, do you want to stay here with us?” He asked her, putting on his cutest smile. He didn’t want her to leave.

How could Liz say yes to his question? She didn’t want to upset the child.

“I don’t mind,” Liz answered. “I can go order if you want.”

“No, it’s okay, I’ll go.” Max said, quickly getting out of his chair to go place the order.

Xander beamed at Liz. “I’m glad you’re going to eat with us!” He said happily. “Daddy’s going to take me to see the...” He paused, searching for the word. “Empire State Building once were done eating.”

“That’s great,” Liz smiled down at the boy. “I’m sure you’re going to love it there, it’s absolutely gorgeous. And the view is very impressive.”

“Yup, that’s what daddy said.” Xander answered with a small smile.

“So you’ve never gone to see the Empire State building before, have you?” Liz asked.

“Nope, this will be my very first time.” He answered. “I’ve never been in this big city before this.”

“Well, how do you like it?” Liz asked him.

“It’s very big.” He answered her. “And there are lots of people.”

“Yeah, I know.” Liz said. “<i>Lots</i> of people.”

“I think I like Roswell better.” He told her. “It’s smaller. And they don’t have my favorite restaurant here.”

“Well, what’s your favorite restaurant?” Liz asked him curiously.

“It’s the Crashdown Café.” He answered her. “It’s a pretty neat restaurant to go to. They serve lots of thing’s there. And they have the best milkshakes in the whole entire world!”

Liz felt her stomach do a flip. Listening to him talk about the Crashdown made her realize how much she missed Roswell, the Crashdown, and most importantly, her parents.

“What’s your favorite restaurant?” Xander asked, looking up at her.

“Well,” Liz said, thinking. “There’s this small place where I live in San Francisco.” She explained. “It’s called Luna Park. They have <i>amazing</I> food there. And they pretty much serve you anything you want.”

“I want to go there!” Xander exclaimed just as Max reappeared with the food in his hands. He placed the food down on the table.

“Go where?” He asked as he sat back down at the table.

“Liz’s favorite restaurant in the whole entire world.” Xander explained as he reached out and took the chocolate muffin from his father. “It’s in San Francisco and it’s called...”
“Luna Park.” Liz answered for him with a smile.

“Yes,” Xander said, taking a sip of his chocolate milk. “Luna Park.”

“I brought you coffee instead,” Max said, handing her a cup of steaming warm coffee.. “I figured you’d prefer coffee over chocolate milk.”

“Oh,” Liz said, “Thank you.” She reached out, taking the cup of coffee from Max’s grasp. His eye’s immediately glanced down at the shining ring on her left hand.

Max froze. He thought he was going to die right there.

“I-” He said, taking a deep breath and trying desperately to regain control of himself. “You’re-”

Liz followed his gaze down to the engagement ring on her finger. Dammit!

“Oh,” Liz said. “Yes. I’m...engaged. Since last night actually.”

Max thought he was going to be sick. That asshole had proposed to her last night!? Goddamnit, this was all his fault. Why the hell hadn’t he went after her yesterday after they’re fight!? Maybe if he would of she never would of accepted his damned proposal!

“Congratulations.” He said in a voice that was barely a whisper.

“Thank you.” Liz answered him. What now? Why the hell did she feel like crap all of a sudden? All she wanted to do was take the ring off her finger this instant. She couldn’t bear to see the hurt in his eye’s like that. But why? He had hurt her in the first place! If he wouldn’t have hurt her, maybe thing’s wouldn’t of turned out this way!

“Does that ring mean that your getting married?” Xander asked, his eye’s wide as he stared at the ring on her finger.

“Yes.” Liz answered, her voice cracking a little as she turned to face the small boy next to her. “Not now, but in several months.”

Max cringed. He <i>had</I> to get out of this place. He felt like he couldn’t breath any more.

“B-but you can’t get married!” Xander exclaimed.

“Sweetie-” Liz started, frowning slightly at Xander’s reaction to her news. What should he care if she got married or not.

“And you can’t leave to go back to San Francisco!” He continued, tears shining in his eyes. “If you do- when am I going to see you again!?”

“Xander-” Max warned, swallowing hard. “Liz <i>will</I> be going back to San Francisco and we will be going back to Roswell. It’s just the way thing’s are.”

“But, you can always call me anytime you want.” Liz said, trying to calm the boy down.

“But what about the vision I had when I touched your hand!” He said. “What about that!? You’re just going to leave me and daddy again!?”

Liz felt as though someone had thrown a freezing cold glass of water in her face. What had he just said?

“Xander, what do you mean by that?” She asked.

“We should go.” Max said suddenly. “Xander,” He had a very bad feeling that Xander was about to spill everything to her and that’s not something Max wanted right now. It was just freak her out even more and-

“Mommy, you can’t leave us again!” Xander burst out.

Liz’s eye’s widened in pure shock. This wasn’t happening. This couldn’t be happening.

Ch.Twenty-Three

Liz turned her gaze towards Max. Max, who remained frozen in his seat.

“Max?” Liz asked, her voice tight with emotions. “What did he just say?” She choked out. “Why did he just call me that? Why did he just call me mommy? You and I both know that there’s no way that he’s right.”

“Liz,” Max said. “I don’t know <i>why</I> he keeps telling me that you’re his mother. I don’t <i>know</I> why. He said he had a flash when he touched you yesterday. He said he saw thing’s. Thing’s that make him think that you’re his mother.”

“But she <i>is</I>!” Xander said. “She <i>is</I> my real mommy! I <i>know</I> she is! I’m not lying! You’re the one who lied to me about who my real mommy is! You told me that my mommy was that women with bright blond hair! But you were wrong!”

“Xan, sweetie.” Max said, bending down to his level. “Come on, let’s not make a scene here okay? Why don’t we go back up to our room and we can talk about this over there. I-” He turned to Liz, wanting to make sure that she hadn’t fainted or ran off. But she hadn’t moved. Even her expression was the same. Shock was written all over her face. But then all of a sudden her features softened a little and she bent down to Xander’s level, looking him in the eye.

“It’s okay,” She said. “There is nothing to discuss. This is a mistake. Honey, I’m sorry but I’m not your real mother. I don’t know what it is that you saw in the flash, but it’s impossible that I’m you’re mother. It just cannot be, okay? I’m sorry, but your vision or whatever it is was wrong.”

“No,” Xander said, tears springing back to his eye’s. “No, you’re wrong. You’re my mommy. And now you want to leave me and daddy again.” He looked down at her engagement ring. “You’re going to go back to San Francisco and get married to that man and you’re going to forget about us!”

“Xander, please.” Max begged. Liz was going to explode if he didn’t stop...

“I-” Liz said. “Max, this is a mistake and you know it. I- I have to go now. Brendan’s waiting for me. I- I have to go...” She turned on her heels, ready to leave and get back to Brendan as fast as possible. But Max stopped her.

“No,” He said. “I’m not letting you get away from me again this time. We <i>need</I> to talk.”

“Max, <i>not</I> right now.” She said, tears were burning the back of her eye’s. “I can’t do this right now, okay? Please just let me go. <i>Please</I>.”

“No, Liz” Max said. “Liz, you have to listen to me. We <i>have</I> talk. Right now. Tommorow you’ll be gone. And we won’t see each other again.”

“I- I can’t do this,” Liz said. “I just- can’t.” She whispered. “I don’t know what’s going on here but this mus be come sort of big mistake.”

“Dammnit!” He said angrily. “Liz, just come upstairs to my room, okay? We need to talk for Xander’s sake, okay?

“Okay,” Liz answered, unsure if she had just made the right decision or not.

Max turned to his son. “Come on, Xander.” He said, taking the boy in his arms. “We’re going to find out once and for all what it is that you’re talking about.”

“Ow!” Serena let out an irritated cry as the man that stood before her tightened the ropes around her hands. “That hurts you basturd! Who the hell are you!? And where the hell am I!?”

“Shut up!” The man said. “Stop asking questions!”

“No!” Serena retorted angrily. “I will <I>not</I> stop asking questions because I was KIDNAPED AND STUFFED IN A SMELLY ROOM WITH MY HANDS TIED TO A FREAGIN’ CHAIR!”

The man raised his hand and brought it down in one swift movement to her face. His fist collided with her face. She let out a loud groan as blood spurred from her nose.

“Now, will you shut up?” The man said, glaring down at her. “Stupid bitch.”

“You,” She breathed out, her head throbbing with pain from the impact of his fist. “Have <i>no</I> idea who you are dealing with.”

“Oh, I know <i>exactly</I> who I’m dealing with.” The man answered. “You’re the one who has no idea who you’re dealing with.”

“Tell me, then.” She choked out. “Who are you? And what the hell do you want from me?”

“I’m not the one who’s after you.” The man replied. “I was only ordered to find you and bring you here. I go by the name of Kholer.”

“And who the hell do you work for?” Serena bit out angrily. Who did this man think he was? Hitting her like that!?

“You don’t know him.” Kholer said. “But he knows exactly who you are.”

“What’s his fuckin’ name!?” Serena asked angrily.

“Khivar.” He answered simply.
Serena frowned. “What the hell is a Khivar?” She asked.

“Khivar is a person!” Kholer snapped in anger. “He is a King. <i>The</I> King of Antar.”

“<i>Antar</I>?” Serena asked. “What the hell, dude. Is that some unknown country somewhere in Europe because I swear I have no idea what the hell it is that you’re talking about.”

“Antar is a planet you bitch.” Kholer snapped at her once more. “And I have been ordered by The King himself to bring you here. He will be here in about half a day or say or so?”

“<I>Half</i> a fuckin’ <i>day</I>?” She squeaked out. “Are you crazy!? I have thing’s to do! I have a job I have to get to and I have fuckin’ people to see. I don’t have time for this bullshit!”

Kholer smiled down at her. “Sweetheart,” He said. “You’re not going anywhere.”

************************************************************

Liz sat on Max’s bed. Xander was sitting next to her and Max was standing up, pacing the room.

“Why don’t you just connect with him?” Liz suggested from where she was sitting. “Find out that was he’s thinking really isn’t true.”

Max looked down at his son and then at Liz.

“Good idea,” Max said, “Sweetie, I want to try something with you, okay?” He told his son as he approached him, sitting down on the bed next to him. He took the little boy’s hands in his own before locking eye’s with Liz.

“What are you going to do?” Xander asked worriedly as he looked up at his father. “It’s not going to hurt, is it?”

“Of course not.” Max said, pushing Xander’s hair back. “It’s not going to hurt at all. I just need you to look into my eye’s for me okay? Look into my eye’s and clear your mind of everything.”

“Okay,” Xander said, doing what his father asked of him.

As soon as Xander looked up into his eye’s, Max was immediately sucked into the boy’s mind.

Tess paced her room. Or Kyle’s ex-room anyway’s. She was furious. Everything she had worked for for the past years was falling apart.

“It’s over,” She said angrily, looking at the large mirror above Kyle’s dresser. The man looked back at her from inside the mirror. Khivar.

“The whole plan- it’s all over.” She continued, pacing the room in anger. “Max slept with Liz.” She told him disgust. “In a fuckin’ observatory.”

“It’s not over yet.” Khivar told her, his voice tight. “Do you understand me? There still is a way to fix this.”

“How, Khivar?” Tess sneered. “How the hell can I <i>fix</I> this?”

“By stealing Liz’s baby.” Khivar answered. “By using a little something called a Tonic. It’s a special Antarian tonic that is made to handle thing’s like this. You have to make her drink it. And you have to take some for yourself also. This tonic will only take a couple of hour’s before kicking in.”

“And how exactly do I get my hands on this tonic?” Tess asked. “And what if it doesn’t work?”

“It <i>will</I>” Khivar said. “As long as you don’t screw anything up. Again.”

“Hey,” She snapped angrily. “It’s not my fault do you understand me?! It’s not my fault that he’s...in love with that bitch.”

“You had a year and a half to get him away from her!” He retorted angrily. “That should of been enough!”

“But it wasn’t!” Tess answered angrily. “And I don’t even think ten year’s would of done any good either. He doesn’t love me, Khivar. He will <i>never</I> love me. He loves <i>her</i>. He chose <i>her</I>.”

Khivar remained quiet. Finally he spoke. “I’ll work on getting you the tonic you will need. “ He told her. “You will need to do some more mindwarping. Lots of it.”

“What do I have to do?” She asked, slumping on the bed.

“You have to start by mindwarping Zan and that girl.” He said. “Make Max believe that it was you that was with him in the observatory tonight. And you must make that girl believe that she was somewhere else. Anywhere.”
“Alright.” Tess nodded slowly. “I can do that.”

“Good.” Khivar answered her. “I’ll be back as soon as I can with your tonic. So you might want to stick around until I get back.”

"What do I do when I get this tonic?" Tess asked. "How do I make her drink the damned thing?"

"Pour in her drink." Khivar answered simply. "It's as simple as that."

"Right." Tess answered with a roll of her eye's. "Real easy." She paused and let out a small sighed. "Just go get me what I’ll need. I’ll wait for you here. But hurry up, we don’t have much time.”

Khivar nodded before disappearing from the mirror. Tess held a hand up to her mouth in horror. What the hell was she about to do?

*************************************************************

Max gasped as the connection broke. Sweat was pouring down his face as he immediately let go of his son’s hands, falling to the floor.

“Max!” Liz cried out, reaching out for him. But he back away from her, tear’s flowing down his face.

“Daddy!?” Xander asked, crying.

“I-” He stuttered slightly. “No! She- Tess, none of it was real. It just a mindwarp. Tess screwed us all up. Her and I never- we-” He stopped himself, trying to collect himself.

It took almost everything he had for him to look up into her eye’s. He had to tell her the truth. He swallowed hard, taking a deep breath. “Liz, Xander is your son. <i>Our</I> son.”

Hello gorgeous people,

I just wanted to drop by and answer people's question's, and also, because I'm so nice today, because I want to post a new Part (Lol, I'm on a roll this weekend)
extingman wrote:So Serena is special, who is she and why does Khivar want her? Does she have powers? Does Liz?
All I want to say about Serena is that, first off, she's not an alien. She knows nothing about Khivar either. But, she does have powers...
begonia9508 wrote:Today was such a boring day until I discovered 2 new parts and fantastic ones!.....  :o :o :D :D :D :D
Poor Liz, awful that she missed (how old is Zander?) x years of her own son! Enough to flip totally!!!!!

And Kholer: Serena knows nothing about aliens?....... was he expecting Liz and took Serena instead?

How Liz is going to react? I can't imagine......

EVE
Lol, Xander just turned seven. And, no, Kholer (lmao, I so could not come up with a better name. His name is really lame, lol, oh well) didn't mix up. He took the right girl.
frenchkiss70 wrote:OMG!!!!!
what about Max's attitude? Was he so mean with Liz because Tess was mindwarping him?
He was just mean because...well, Liz was about to run off on him again and he didn't want her too. Lol, I should of made him just a little nicer.

ANyway's, thanks to everyone else for the feedback, and here's Ch.Twenty-Four...

Enjoy,

Liz remained frozen in place. Max’s words still playing over and over in her head.

<i>“Liz, Xander is your son. Our son.”</i>

She couldn’t move from her spot next to Max. She felt as though time itself had stopped right there.

“Liz?” Max asked shakily from where he was sitting on the floor. He hadn’t moved from his spot on the floor. He couldn’t believe that this was actually happening.

“Liz, please talk to me.” Max whispered. “Say something.”

Liz didn’t speak. She simply dropped down on the bed, clutching her stomach. She felt as though she was going to faint any second now.

“I’ll go get you some nice cold water,” Xander said, getting up from the floor. He quickly disappeared inside the washroom.

“Liz?” Max asked, getting off from the floor. He walked over to her and sat down next to her, wrapping an comforting arm around her. “Please, Liz. Just say something.”

“I-” Liz managed to choke out. “I don’t know what to say.”

“I know,” Max said. All he wanted to do right now was take her into his arms and never let her go. “I don’t know what to say either. I never imagined something like this would happen, Liz. I had no idea.”

“Here,” Xander said, coming out of the bathroom and handing Liz a glass of water. “It’s cold. I made sure of it.” He handed it to her and Liz took it from him. He then climbed onto the bed next to Liz, resting his small head on her arm.

“What did you see?” Liz asked, turning her head towards Max. “Maybe what you saw wasn’t real. Maybe it’s all just some sort of mindwarp. I mean, he can’t be <i>my</I> child Max. We never- and I was never pregnant with him.”

“I know,” Max asked. “Tess mindwarped us. That night in the observatory, it was really you and me. She found out about us and then I saw her talking with Khivar in the Valenti’s house. He wasn’t physically here But I saw him in the mirror. He and Tess had been talking and, Khivar said something about a special Antarian tonic or something. It seemed to me as though she made some sort of switch. She took the fetus out of you and...” He trailed off, tears stinging his eyes once more. “I’m so sorry, Liz. I’m so sorry.”

Liz remained frozen. She seemed to have gone in a sort of catonic state.

“Are you certain that this is real?” Liz whispered. “Are you <i>sure</I>?”

“Yes,” He said. “It’s true, Liz. Let me show you.” He reached out, taking Liz’s small hands in his. He looked into her eye’s and connected with her. And she saw everything. She saw Tess standing in her room, talking to Khivar, telling him that it was all over. That Max had her had made love in the observatory. She saw Khivar tell her all about the plan to give her the tonic. And then she watched as he disappeared from the mirror, leaving Tess all alone.

As soon as the connection broke Liz moved away from Max. She held her hand up to her mouth as the tears spilled down her face. Her world had stopped spinning right then...

Max got up and reached out to hug her. Liz let him. She didn’t give a crap right now that she was supposed to be mad at him. She needed some major comforting right now.

She cried in his arms, her face pressed against his chest. She could feel him crying too as he held her. His face buried in her hair.

“I’m still here.” Xander said quietly from his spot on the bed as he stared up at Max and Liz.

“I know, sweetie.” Max said. Liz broke away from Max, turning to Xander.

“Come here,” She said, tears still falling down her face. Xander quickly hoped off the bed and walked over to Liz, wrapping his arms around her neck. She held him tightly, not quite believing that this was her son. Her <i>son</I>.

She ran her hand across his back as she continued to hug him.

“It’s okay.” Xander said, his arms wrapped tightly around Liz’s neck. “It’s okay, mommy. See, I knew you were my real mommy. I wasn’t lying.”

Max swallowed hard as he stared at Liz and his- their son. He couldn’t believe this was happening. He wasn’t sure <i>how</I> he was feeling about this. He felt pure hatred and rage towards Tess right now. All he wanted to do was find Tess and kill her with his bare hands for all the crap she had caused in his life for the past seven years.

“How could Tess have done this to me?” Liz sobbed. “How could she have taken my own child away from me?”

“I don’t know.” Max said, shaking his head. “I don’t know. But I promise you that I’m going to find her and I’m going to find out and make her pay. Trust me, I’ll make her pay.”

“What do I do now?” Liz asked, more to herself than to anyone else. She couldn’t imagine what she was going to do. What about her life in San Francisco? She had a career, she had two amazing best friends and...she was engaged. But on the other hand, she didn’t want to leave Xander and Max...

“I’m not sure...where to go from here.” Max said, sitting down on the bed. “I- don’t know what to do. I don’t know what you should do. Only you can decide that.”

She sat back down on the bed, both arms around Xander. She reached out and wiped her tears away. “I need to go see Brendan.” She said finally after having made up her mind. She had to go see him right now, and she also had to give Rachel and Serena a call.

“Okay,” Max said almost painfully. “You’re right. You should go see him. But, what are you going to tell him?”

Liz shook her head. “I don’t know.” She answered truthfully. “He’ll freak out if I tell him that...I have a kid.” Saying it out loud like this just made it sound way weird.

“I’m going to go see Isabel.” Max told her. “You don’t mind, do you? If I tell her?”

“I don’t mind.” Liz said softly as she got up from the bed.

“You’re going to come back, right?” Xander asked worriedly as he looked up at her. “Right?”

“Of course,” Liz answered him immediately. She bent down and placed a small kiss on his head. “I’ll be back, don’t worry okay?”

“Okay,” Xander said in a small quiet voice. “I love you.”

Liz heart stopped momentarily as more tears sprung to her eye’s at his words. She couldn’t believe this was happening.

“Bye, sweetie.” Liz said, giving him one last kiss before turning around and heading straight for the door. She turned her head to give Max one last look before she left.

“Daddy, are you okay?” Xander asked as he looked at his father.

“I don’t know.” Max answered sincerely as Xander crawled into his laps. He ran a hand through his son’s hair.

*************************************************************

Liz entered her hotel room and immediately spotted a shirtless Brendan by one of the dresser’s across the room.

“Liz!” He exclaimed as soon as she walked through the door. He walked across the room and she wrapped her arms around him tightly.

<i>Don’t cry, Liz.</I> She thought to herself. </i>You’ve already cried enough to fill the Mississippi river,</I>

“Where we’re you?” He asked her. “We we’re supposed to go eat breakfast together this morning.”

“I know,” Liz answered. “I’m sorry. It’s just, I woke up this morning and you were still sleeping. I didn’t want to wake you so I just took a quick shower, got dressed and went downstairs to grab myself something to eat.”

“Baby, you should of woken me up.” He said, his hands on her forearms. He looked deep into her eye’s and frowned. “What’s wrong?” He said quickly. “Liz, are you okay? You’ve been crying.”

“Oh that.” She said, forcing a smile on her face. “It’s nothing. Allergy season, you know.”

“Allergies?” Brendan asked. “I didn’t know you were allergic.”

“Oh, I’m terribly allergic.” Liz lied quickly. “Pollen and stuff. It gets real bad.”

“But...you didn’t go outside.” He said, frowning. “So why would the pollen affect you?”

“Well, I sort of went outside for a small stroll around the building.” She lied. She hated lying to him like this but she didn’t have a choice. She didn’t want to hurt him. “And the pollen’s real bad today.” She faked a sneeze and grabbed a Kleenex from the small desk. She blew her nose and threw the Kleenex in the small garbage to her left. “I hate allergy season.” She said.

“Well, you wanna stop by the pharmacy to get something?” He asked. “Those thing’s that they show on tv to fix you’re allergies?”

Liz let out a small laugh. “No, it’s okay.” She said quickly. “I’m going to be okay.”

“Alright, that’s good.” Brendan said. “So, do you want to go out today?” He asked her. “We can go shopping or something? I’m all ready to go.”

“Isn’t your dad in town?” Liz asked curiously as Brendan let out a small sigh.

“Yeah,” He answered. “Unfortunately for me.”

“Don’t you want to see him?” Liz asked.

“Oh, we’ll be seeing plenty of him.” Brendan replied. “He called while you were out. He and my mom want to go for supper tonight.”

“Oh,” Liz said nervously. For some reason she always felt nervous when she was around Brendan’s parents. They were those rich, brandy-drinking, suit-wearing people.

“I didn’t tell them about our engagement.” Brendan said. “We can tell them tonight and get it over with, what do you think? My mom will go completely ballistic. She’ll want to start planning for the wedding tonight, you know how she is. She absolutely adores you. And my dad will be delighted too.”

Liz felt a small pang of guilt as he leaned in and kissed her. God, what was she going to do?

“So, where are we going this morning?” He asked her.

“Wherever you want to go.” Liz replied. “I really don’t mind.” Actually, she did mind. She didn’t want to go anywhere right now. She just wanted to get on the phone and try to go fix thing’s with Maria and then go back to see Xander. And Max. Even though she didn’t want to admit it.

“Alright, then.” He said. “Why don’t we go shopping. We can head over to Macy’s and go crazy. I need new shirts.”

Liz smiled. “I think Rachel would have to agree with you on that one.” She said. Rachel complained everytime that Brendan had to buy more shirts and start wearing them instead of wearing those business suits he wore practically everyday.

“Okay, let’s get out of here.” He said, grabbing a shirt from the bed and slipping it over his head. He grabbed his wallet it and slipped it in the back pocket of his jeans. He took Liz’s hand in his and led the way out the door of the hotel room.

How was Liz going to survive today?

Ch.Twenty-Five

“I can’t believe it,” Isabel said as she sat on the bed, looking up at Max with bewilderment in her eye’s. “I-this is unbelievable.”

“I know,” Max said quietly. “I’ve never imagined that this would happen. I mean, of course, I’m not exactly disappointed. Mostly because...well, I’m still in love with Liz. I never stopped loving her not even for a second. And...finding out that she’s really my son’s mother, it’s pretty overwhelming but also..”

“I understand,” Isabel said. “Where is she now? Liz, I mean.”

“She went to see that guy, Brendan.” Max answered painfully. “Did you know that she was engaged to him? They’ve been engaged since yesterday night or something.”

“Oh my, God, Max, I’m so sorry.” Isabel said. “But, she can’t marry him now. Not with everything she just found out.”

“She can do whatever she wants, Iz.” Max said sadly. “It’s her life. If she doesn’t want to be a part of Xander’s life, I can understand. What with everything that’s happened with Tess. And it’s not like she can just come back to Roswell and leave her whole life behind in San Francisco.”

“God, I don’t know what to tell you, Max.” Isabel said.

Max turned, watching his son playing with some toys on the floor on the other side of the room so that he wouldn’t overhear anything when all of a sudden the door to the room burst open, revealing Maria, Kyle, and Michael.

“Oh my, God!” Maria practically shrieked. “Max! I can’t believe it!” She quickly walked up to him and wrapped her arms around his neck. “I couldn’t believe it when Isabel called me and told me. I totally freaked out at that restaurant we went to and I think I scared the crap out of everybody who were there.” She paused, he arms still around Max. “How is she? Liz, I mean. How did she take the news?”

“She’s in shock about the whole thing.” Max answered. “Which is completely understandable.”

“Well, where is she now?” Maria asked. “She sure as hell shouldn’t be alone right now.”

“She’s with Brendan.” Max answered.

“<i>What?</I>” Maria said, backing up. “You’re kidding me, right? She just found out that she had a son and she ran to her <i>boyfriend</I>?”

“Well...yeah.” Max answered. “And it’s not <i>boyfriend</I> anymore. She’s engaged.”
Maria’s mouth dropped open. “Are you serious?” She asked. “I’m so sorry, Max.”

“I know,” Max said. “Everybody’s been telling me that.”

“I’m going to go talk to her.” Maria said suddenly.”I’ll be back later.”

She turned on her heels but Max stopped her before she could reach the door. “I don’t think that’s such a good idea.” Max said. “We have to leave her some space, okay? This is a really big deal for all of us. Especially her.”

“Max, I <i>need</I> to go talk to her.” She said. “We’re all leaving tommorow. She’s goin g back to San Francisco and we’re going back to Roswell. I have to do this <i>now</I>.”

Max let out a small sigh, running his hand through his hair. “Fine,” He said. “Just, don’t start yelling at her. She has a lot on her plate right now. <i>Way</I> too much.”

“I won’t yell,” Maria answered, clearly annoyed. “Jeez, am I that terrible?”

Nobody answered.

“I’m going,” Maria said.

“Do you want me to go with you?” Kyle asked immediately.

“No,” Maria snapped. “I’m <i>not</I> going to yell at her, okay?”

“Fine,” Kyle said. “I trust you.”

Maria headed out the door, closing it shut behind her.

“She’s going to yell, isn’t she?” Kyle asked.

Michael nodded. “Yeah, she probably will.”

**************************************************************************************

Liz and Brendan walked down the hallway towards the elevator that would take them down to the lobby. Brendan had already called downstairs to make sure that their car would be there by the time they arrived downstairs.

So today’s plan was to go shopping. Even though shopping was the <i>last</I> thing she wanted to do right now. So much was going through her head right now, she didn’t know what to make of herself.

She had aa <i>son</I>. A <I>son</I> She had missed nearly seven year’s of this little boy’s life. She hadn’t even gotten to carry this child inside of her. It had been taken away from her. And she hadn’t even known. How could Tess have done something so cruel like that? She had taken away <i>her</I> child. Although she guess it was to be expected. Tess <i>had</I> killed her best friend. And if Tess was able to kill someone, she guessed that she was able to take someone’s child away like that. Tess was twisted and sick. Liz felt disgusted just thinking about her. And she promised herself that if she ever crossed paths with that bitch again, she would kill her herself. She would make her pay.

“Hey, are you sure you’re okay?” Brendan asked, giving her arm a small squeeze as they waited for the elevator door to open. “You don’t look too good, do you want to stay here instead?”

“Um, actually...” Liz started, but before she had a chance to finish, the elevator door opened. And Maria was standing in there.

“Liz!” Maria exclaimed when she saw the small brunette standing there. “Hi.” She said.

“Hi,” Liz said, a small smile forming on her face.

“And, who is this?” Brendan asked. “Another long-lost friend?”

“Yeah,” Maria answered, holding out her hand. “I’m Maria Deluca. Liz and I go way back.”

“Wow,” Brendan said, shaking her head. “It’s like all the people you used to know are popping up here in New York.”

“Yeah,” Liz said. “Um, honey, why don’t you go on downstairs and just go out today and just do whatever you want. I’m not feeling too well so I’m just going to stay here and catch up with Maria, okay?”

“Okay,” Brendan said. Liz could clearly hear the disappointment in his voice. Today <i>was</I> their last day in New York, and she guessed that he was wanted to make the best out of it. With her.

“I’ll be ready for tonight though, okay?” Liz said. “And, by the way, what should I wear? I’m guessing we’re going somewhere fancy with you’re parents. Should I wear a dress? A skirt?”

“Wear whatever you want, sweetie.” Brendan said, giving her a small kiss on the lips. “You look gorgeous in anything.”

Liz blushed as he stepped inside the elevator while Maria stepped out and stood beside her.

“I’ll see you this afternoon,” Brendan said right before the door’s to the elevator closed.

Liz took a deep breath and turned to Maria. “Mar-” Liz started, but before she had a chance to say anything, Maria jumped into her arms.

Liz felt slightly taken aback considering that only yesterday Maria had seemed as though she wanted to bite her ass off.
“I heard about Xander.” Maria said. “I couldn’t believe it! I can’t believe that he’s really <i>you’re</i> child. You must be going through hell right now, God, I just want to help you get through this.”

“I-” Liz started, “Thank you. That means a lot to me. Considering everything I’ve put you through in the last seven years.”

“Yeah,” Maria said. “About that. You sure as hell did put us through hell for the past seven year’s. I mean, jeez, Liz, it’s called a phone.”

“I know,” Liz said. “I’m a bitch. I’m the biggest bitch out there. I was just really scared. Scared of what you guy’s would think of me.”

“Babe, we wouldn’t of been pissed off at you!” Maria said. “I mean, sure, in the beginning we would of. For God’s sake you just took off! We were worried sick! You’re parents were going crazy with worry!”

“I know,” Liz said. “Maria, you have <i>no</I> idea how guilty I am. I feel guilty every single day of my life.”

“I’m sorry I made you feel like crap before you left,” Maria said sadly. “You had been right all along. Alex had been murdered by a blond alien skank. I should of stuck by yourself and helped you find out the truth.”

“God, it’s not you’re fault Maria.” Liz said. “You we’re grieving. You didn’t want to hear all my theories on how Alex could of died.”

Maria let out a small sighed. “Come on, let’s go to your room. We can talk more there, okay? We don’t have much time to talk, I have to head back home to Roswell tommorow.”

“I know,” Liz said sadly. “And I have to go back to San Francisco.”

The two headed towards Liz’s room, unaware that someone was watching them and hearing every single word that they were saying.

**************************************************************************************

“San Francisco,” Rath said, dropping back down on the couch. “That chick, the brunette, she’s heading back to San Francisco tommorow with her boyfriend or whoever he is.”

“What about the other’s?” Tess asked. “Max? Michael? Are they heading back to Roswell?”

Rath nodded. “Yeah.” He answered simply. “They’re going back tommorow.” He paused. “Oh, yeah, and that kid of your’s, Xander or whatever his name is. He’s actually that brunette’s child, isn’t he?”

“How do you know that?” Tess asked, panicked.

“Because Liz know’s that the kid is her’s.” Rath answered. “She and that Maria chick we’re talking about it.”

“What!?” Tess said, “Liz know’s!?”

“Yeah, calm down, woman.” Rath said.

“We won’t have to time to kill all of the by tommorow.” Tess muttered. “We’re going to have to split up. Two of us go to Roswell and two of us head on to San Francisco.”

“What!?” Rath burst out angrily. “Hey! You never said anything about us leaving our crib. I’m sorry, but that’s just not going to happen. Lonnie and I aren’t goin’ nowhere.”

“Do you want to go back home to Antar!?” Tess asked angrily. “I told you all this before! If you manage to kill Max, Liz, and Xander, then we get to go back home. Khivar will let us.”

“Hey, you know what?” Rath said angrily. “I’m not even sure if you’re even working for the guy! I have a weird feeling that this is just some quest of yours to get revenge or somethin”

“Well, your wrong.” Tess answered sourly. “This isn’t some <i>quest for revenge</I>. <i>Khivar</I> is the one who wants them dead.”

“Fine,” Rath said. “Lon and I will head over to Roswell. You head to San Francisco and take the brunette down. Lon and I will take care of the King and his prince.”

“Good.” Tess said, a small smile forming on her face. “Very good. Khivar will be pleased.”

Ch.26

“Oh, God, Liz!” Maria said, bursting into yet another fit of giggles. “You just <i>had</I> to be there!”

Both Maria and Liz sat cross-legged on the floor. The two had been talking for the past hour talking.

“I wish I had!” Liz said with a small laugh. “Wow, Maria. You seem to have such an awesome life, I’m so happy for you.”

“Oh, please.” Maria said, rolling her eyes. “I’m not the one with the amazing career as an Advice Columnist and the really hot, multi-millionaire boyfriend.”

Liz mustered a small smile. “Yeah,” She said, “You know, he really is a great guy. And, yeah, I do have a pretty good job.”

“Tell me more about the boyfriend.” Maria said. “How did you two meet?”

Liz immediately let out a small laugh. “I bumped into him at Starbucks. <i>Literally</I> bumped into him. I spilled coffee all over the place.”

“Really?” Maria said, “Wow.”

“Yeah.” Liz said. “After I bumped into him he offered to drive me to work. We started going out the very next day.” She paused. “He actually proposed to me last night.”

“Oh, wow, Liz.” Maria said, “That’s amazing!”

“Yeah, I guess.” Liz answered with a small sigh. “It’s just, you know, with everything that I learned today about Xander and Max. It changes everything.”

“I bet,” Maria said. “What are you gonna do? About Xander, I mean? And Max?”

“I don’t know,” Liz said sadly. “I mean, I have a life in San Francisco, Maria. I have a career and I have an amazing boyfriend. But on the other hand, I don’t want to leave my... son. I’ve already missed seven years of his life, Maria. I don’t want to miss anymore.”

“I know you don’t, babe.” Maria said, reaching out and giving Liz’s knee a comforting pat. “You’ll figure out a way to see your son. I know you will.”

“I hope so,” Liz said with a small smile just as a small knock on the door resounded. Liz short Maria a small worried look before she got up and walked across the room and opened the room.

“Oh,” She said, a bright smile forming on her face as she looked down at the small seven year old child who stood there, Max stood right behind him, his hand on Xander’s shoulder.

“Hi,” Max said, a small smile on his face. “We just wanted to check up on you and Maria. She’s been gone for the past hour and we just thought-”

“That I had ripped Liz’s hair out?” Maria called out from the bed, throwing Max an evil look. “So much for trusting me.”

“It wasn’t daddy who wanted to check up on you,” Xander said, grinning at Maria.
It was Uncle Michael and Uncle Kyle.”

“Great,” Maria said. “You know what? I’m gonna go and give those guy’s a piece of my mind. I swear, those two are sitting next to each other on our way back to New Mexico.” She turned to Liz. “Liz, I’m so glad we got thing’s fixed between us. Do you think you could join us for supper tonight? We’re supposed to be going out somewhere, it hasn’t really been discussed yet though.”

“Oh, please say yes!” Xander said excitedly. “You have to come, mommy! It’ll be really fun! It’s always fun to see Uncle Michael eat like a pig!”

Maria snorted a laugh at that. “The kid’s right.” She said, smiling.

“Um, actually,” Liz said, almost feeling guilty. “Brendan’s parents are in town and Brendan and I are going to eat with them tonight.” Liz immediately regretted her words when she saw Xander’s face fall.

“It’s okay.” He said, looking up at her with a small sad smile. “We can go to the restaurant together another time, right?”

“Oh, of course, sweetie.” Liz said, reaching out to give him a big warm hug. “We’ll go to the restaurant thousands of times together.”

“Are we going to go to that restaurant you talked about someday?” He asked, his eye’s lightening up. “That pace you said it was you’re favorite restaurant?!”

“Of course,” Liz said, smiling brightly. “I’d love to take you to Luna Park!”

“Can we go tonight?” Xander pleaded.

“Oh, honey, it’s far away.” Liz explained. “It’s across this part of the country! But I promise, if you ever come to San Francisco, I’ll take you to Luna Park.”

“Okay,” Xander grinned. “You promise?”

“I promise.” Liz answered, smiling.

“Okay,” He said. “Can we go swimming now? Daddy, you promised you would take me swimming. And I want mommy to come too.”

“Xan,” Maria said, glancing briefly from Max to Liz. “Why don’t I take you swimming? Mommy and Daddy really need to talk right now, okay?”

“But I’ll go swimming with you right after,” Max reassured his son.

Xander turned to Liz, looking up at her with big pleading eye’s.

“And me too,” Liz answered.

“Okay,” Xander said, wrapping his arms around his father’s legs to give him a hug. “I love you, daddy.” He said before turning towards Liz. “I love you, too, mommy.” Liz smiled and wrapped her arms around him, giving him a big hug. He let out a small giggle as he placed a kiss on her cheek.

Maria laughed lightly, taking Xander’s hand in her own. “Come on, hon. You and I are gonna have a race in that pool.”

“I bet I can beat you!” Xander said.

“Oh, really?” Maria said as the two started walking down the hall towards the elevator. “I guess we’ll just have to see about that!”

“Liz?” Max asked, turning to face her.

“Um, yeah, maybe we should go inside the room, what do you think?” Liz asked, taking a step inside the room. Max stepped in after her, closing the door behind him. He looked around the large and spacious room. This was, by far, one of the largest hotel suite he’d ever since.

“Nice room,” He said, clearing his throat as he looked around. “Your boyfriend must make a hell of a lot of money.” He stated.

Liz’s eyebrows shot upwards as she turned to look at him. “What makes you think that <i>he’s</I> the one who makes all this money?”

Max’s mouth almost dropped open. “You mean that- you’re the one who makes-”

Liz smiled. “I’m just joking.” She said. “You were right, Max. Brendan does make a lot of money. He’s a pretty damn good lawyer and there’s also the fact that his parents own one of the best law firms out there.”

“Yeah,” Max said, “That Brendan sounds like a really nice guy.”

“He is.” Liz admitted truthfully. “He’s a really good guy.”

“So,” Max said softly. He walked over to the window that overlooked New York City.

Liz remained rooted to the spot by the bed. Just being in the same room as him drove her crazy. All the old feeling’s that she thought had been dead and buried about Max we’re beginning to re-surface. Being in the same with him was almost intoxicating.

“I was happy, you know.” He spoke quietly, still gazing out the window. “When I- when I found out through those flashes that he was your son. That he was <i>our<</i> son. This small- this <i>big</I> part of me was happy.” He turned to look at her. “Do you have any idea how many time’s since you left Roswell that I hoped and wished that he could of been ours? How I wished practically every night that it could of been you and make making love in that observatory? That you, Xander, and I could of been a family?”

Liz could feel tears rising to the surface but she quickly blinked them away.

“And now I find out, seven year’s later, that all of those thing’s <i>did</I> happen?” He pressed on. “That you and I really did make love in that observatory and that you and I really did conceive a child together.”

“But I don’t remember ever doing it.” Liz said. “And that hurts more than I can bear.”

“I know,” Max said, tears were now evident in his own eye’s. “I wish I could remember. I wish that so much.”

“I’m sorry I left, Max.” Liz said, letting out a sob. “I’m so sorry.”

Max didn’t say anything. Instead he quickly crossed the room and wrapped his arms around her small body, rubbing her back in a soothing manner.

“Thing’s are so screwed up for me right now.” Liz cried. “I- I don’t want to leave Xander. I don’t want to leave you and I want to see my parents again. But I can’t leave S-San Francisco. I have a life there too.”

“Shh,” Max said. “It’s going to be okay. We’re going to figure this out, Liz, I promise, okay?”

“I hope so,” Liz said, trying wiping her tears away. “But h-how?”

“I don’t know,” Max answered truthfully. “But we’ll figure something out, okay? Try not to worry about it too much.”

“How could I <i>not</I> worry?” Liz said. “I’m supposed to be going back to San Francisco with Brendan tommorow!”

Max remained quiet for a while, unsure if he should ask her this next question or not. He probably shouldn’t, he already knew the answer to his question. But yet...

“Liz,” He started,

“What?” Liz asked, pulling herself slowly away from him even though she didn’t want too. She felt safe in his arms. Like nothing would ever happen to her.

“I- do you...” He trailed off, not looking at her.

“What?” Liz asked curiously. “Just say it, Max.”

“Do you love Brendan?” He asked her, swallowing hard. “Are you in love with him.”

Liz was taken aback by his question. “I- it’s complicated.” She answered. “You know, for year’s I’ve been desperately trying to get you out of my mind. And I thought that if I was with Brendan, maybe, just maybe, I’d be able to do that. Get you out of my mind I mean.” She paused, “And then I saw you again. And- these old feeling’s just came rushing back to me, you know? I thought I could forget about you. But I couldn’t. I can’t. I know that deep down inside I’m still...in love with you. I can lie to other’s. But I can’t lie to myself, can I?” She took a deep breath. “But I know that, even though I may still be in love with you, I can never be with you. Because of-”

“Because of Brendan?” Max asked her,

Liz nodded slowly in response. It broke her heart to see Max’s face like that, full of pain and hurt.

“I’m sorry,” Liz said as tears started running down her cheeks again. “But- I just can’t do that to Brendan. Because he’s a really good guy and he doesn’t deserve to have his heart broken like that.”

“I understand,” Max said. He reached out and brushed away her tears with his thumb. “Don’t cry, okay? I hate seeing you cry. I just want you to be happy with whatever decision you make, Liz. That’s all I want, for you to be happy. Because you deserve it so much. You deserve to be happy.”

“Thank you,” Liz said, reaching out and wrapping her arms around him. “Thank you for saying that. But I want you to know, that my life with never be fully whole without you, Max. I will never be fully...complete without you by my side.”

“Liz-” Max said, tears forming in his eyes. He quickly blinked them away before they had a chance to fall. “I will never be complete without you.”

And that’s when it hit him. What the hell was he doing? And what the hell was he doing? He was going to sit here and listen to her tell him that she couldn’t be with him after everything they had learned today? They had a <i>son</I> together! He had never slept with Tess he had made to love to Liz! She loved him and he loved her, she had just said it! Hell, he was going to get her back into his arms even if it was the last thing he did! Screw that Brendan guy, he was probably a big snob and Liz just couldn’t see that about him.

He pulled away from her, standing up to his feet. She frowned, confused look coming over her face as she looked up at him.

“I can’t do this,” He told her. “I’m not going to let you leave with Brendan tommorow, Liz, I can’t. We learnt a hell of a lot of thing’s today. You and I have a son together, we made love to each other. It wasn’t me and <i>Tess</i> in that observatory it was <i>you</i> and me.” He swallowed hard. “Tess screwed us over. Big time. We could of been happy together you and me, Liz. We could of had a family if it wouldn’t of been for her. She ruined my life. I have- I had nothing left.” He paused, staring at her in the eye before saying to her, “But now I’m about to take it back.”

He took a step back. “I’m coming for you, Liz Parker.” He said. “And I can guarantee you that you’ll have changed your mind about that Brendan guy before you have to leave tommorow morning.”

Not waiting for her answer, Max turned around, smiling to himself as he headed towards the door and opened it. He didn’t even look back as he excited the room. He wanted Liz back and he was going to do everything in his power to get her back.

Ch.27

Liz stood staring at herself in the full length mirror. She was wearing a beautiful red dress that stopped just above her knee’s. She had bought it a few months ago at a small shop near the bay area. She had been out shopping with both Rachel and Serena and the two girl’s had urged her to buy the dress, telling her that it fit her perfectly and that it was absolutely gorgeous on her. She had been wary about buying it at first but the two girls had quickly convinced her of it.

So now there she stood, looking at herself in the mirror of her hotel room, waiting for Brendan to come out of the bathroom. Hopefully the dress would be okay and Brendan would like it. She was nervous about tonight. Seeing Mr. And. Mrs. Harris was what made her nervous like hell.

The door to the bathroom opened and Brendan stepped out, looking hotter than ever in his black suit. He had chosen a dark blue blouse to go underneath, which really suited him good.

His mouth dropped open at the sight of her, his eye’s looking her up and down as he approached her. “Holy crap.” He said, practically gaping at her. “Geez, Liz. Are you trying to drive me nuts? How the hell am I supposed to spend supper without attacking you at the dinner table?”

Liz smiled. “You look pretty damn good yourself, Mr. Harris.”

“Not as good as you, that’s for sure.” He said, his eye’s still firmly planted on her.

“So when are we leaving?” Liz asked, glancing at the clock beside her bed. “It’s already 6:00.”

“Yeah, I just got off the phone with my dad and he told me to meet him in half an hour at this restaurant downtown. It’s in this building that overlooks New York City or something. He gave me the address.”

“Okay,” Liz said, “Well, then maybe we should get going so we don’t arrive there late?”

“Are you nervous?” Brendan asked, smirking at her. “Because you sure as hell look nervous right now.”

“Me?” Liz said. “I’m not nervous. I’m <i>really</I> not nervous. I’m like the least nervous person on the planet.”

“Of course,” Brendan said with a small laugh. “I trust you.”

“You better mister because I’m <i>not</I> nervous.” She answered. “Now, hurry up. I don’t want to be late.” She glanced at herself one last time in the mirror before grabbing her purse from the bed.

“Wait,” He said before she had a chance to reach the door. Liz turned around to face him and he leaned down and placed a warm kiss on her lips.
“Now we can go,” He said, opening the door for her. She stepped outside and he followed her, locking the door behind them.

They walked towards the elevator and Liz couldn’t help but flash back to the earlier conversation that she and Max had had in her hotel room. He had told her that he would be coming for her. And that he would change her mind about being with Brendan before they had to leave the very next morning to go back to San Francisco. She couldn’t help but wonder what exactly he had meant by that. What was he going to do?

“Liz?” Brendan asked, his voice bursting through her thoughts. “You okay?” He asked worriedly as the elevator stopped and the doors opened, leading them directly to the lobby of the hotel.

“Yeah,” Liz said quickly. “I’m fine. Come on,” She took his hand, leading him across the lobby and towards the exit of the hotel. They walked outside, the sun was slowly begin to sink down already and it was starting to get chilly outside. The white Mercedes-Benz was already parked right outside the hotel, waiting for them.

Brendan quickly opened the door for her. She smiled thankfully as she sank into the passenger seat and waited for him to get in. For some weird reason she had a bad feeling about tonight. Something was sure to happen. And she wasn’t sure if that something was a good or a bad thing.

**************************************************************************************

“Max, you can’t be serious.” Maria said as she walked quickly after him, trying to catch up to him. The two, along with Michael, Kyle, and Isabel who was holding Xander by the hand walked outside the hotel where Philip Evan’s rented SUV was parked in the driveway of the hotel.

“Max, this is ridiculous.” Maria whined after him, she turned to Michael. “Michael knock some sense back into him, <i>please</I>”

“I tried.” Michael said. “Didn’t work. And it’s not going to work either. The guy’s on a mission and nothing’s going to stop him.”

“She’s gonna get <i>really</I> mad at you, you know that?” Isabel said. “And, God, I can’t believe I’m letting you drag me into this diabolical plan of yours!”

“This is my only option,” Max said as they all piled into the SUV. “Unless you can come up with a better plan, this is what we’re going to do.”

“Okay, somebody <i>please</I> come up with a better solution,” Maria said, looking around the crowded SUV. “Michael? Kyle? Izzy? Nothing?”

They all looked away.

“Oh, fine,” Maria said. “Just go over the plan one more time, will you?”

Max let out a small impatient sighed. “Here’s what we’re going to do...”

**************************************************************************************

“Brendan! Elizabeth!” A voice exclaimed loudly as the two walked inside the restaurant.

“Looks like my mother’s here,” Brendan whispered, rolling his eyes. “And, oh, hey, there’s my dad.”

“You’re parents aren’t that bad, Brendan.” Liz said with a small laugh as they walked towards the table where Mr. And Mrs. Harris we’re seated, sipping a glass of wine. And it wasn’t the cheap kind either that was for sure.

“Hey mom,” Brendan said, smiling as they finally reached the table. “Hey dad,”

“Hey, son.” His father said as he and his wife rose from the table to greet them both.

“Elizabeth, I haven’t seen you in such a long time!” Mrs. Harris exclaimed. “Honey, you look absolutely gorgeous in that dress!”

“Thank you, Mrs. Harris” Liz said as Mrs. Harris pulled her into a hug.

“Oh, God, you’re not still calling me that are you?” Mrs. Harris said as she let go of Liz. “Honey, I told you to call me Ann.”

“Alright then, Ann.” Liz said, smiling.

“And you can call me Eric, dear.” Mr. Harris said as everybody sat back down at the table. Liz was sitting next to Brendan and on the other side of the table Mr. And- Eric and Ann we’re sitting side by side.

“What took you so long to get here?” Ann asked her son as she took a sip of her wine. “You’re fifteen minutes late.”

“Yeah, we had a hard time finding the place.” Brendan explained as he picked up the menu. “So what foods good here?” He asked, scanning the menu.

“Honey you just got here,” Ann said, “Talk to us here, Brendan. What’s new in you’re life? How’s work going?”

“Work’s great,” Brendan said, smiling briefly. “And there is one big thing that I wanted to talk to you about.”

“Well, what is it?” Eric Harris said, glancing at his wife.

“Well,” Brendan said, he turned to Liz, smiling at her. “Liz and I- we’re engaged.”

“What!?” Ann said. “Are you serious! Oh, honey, that’s fantastic!” She got up, reaching over to pull Liz and Brendan into a hug. “Oh, I’m so happy for you!”

Liz felt her insides churn, she felt like she was dying inside. Everybody was happy. Except for her.

“Congratulations, guy’s.” Eric said, smiling brightly at the two of them.

“Thank you,” Liz said as Brendan took her hand in his and gave it a small squeeze.

“Oh, my, have you set a date yet!? And when did you propose, Brendan? You didn’t tell us anything about this!” Ann asked, her eyes widened with excitement.

“Yesterday night actually,” Liz said, smiling. “On top of the Empire State Building.”

“Oh, wow.” Ann said, smiling. “It must of been beautiful up there! And have you set a date for the Wedding yet!?”

Brendan laughed. “Mom, we’ve only been engaged since yesterday.”

“I know, honey.” Ann said. “But you gotta start planning now! Liz, what did you have in mind for the wedding? Summer wedding or Spring wedding?”

“Um,” Liz said. “I don’t really mind actually.”

“Oh, Summer's way too hot.” Brendan said. “Spring is better.”

“You’re absolutely right,” Eric said. “Summer’s always so hot and humid. You really should go with Spring,”

Liz was just about to say something when they were interrupted by a huge squeal.

“Lizzie!” A voice called out. Liz’s eye’s widened slightly, turning around to look at Maria who was heading straight for their table. The funny thing was, that she wasn’t alone. Following closely behind her was Michael, Isabel, Kyle, Max, and... Xander.

“Hey, isn’t that Maria?” Brendan asked, looking at Liz. “And that guy, isn’t that Kyle or something?”

“Hey guy’s!” Maria said as she stood beside they’re table. “Liz, that dress looks awesome on you!”

“Uh,” Liz said. “Thank you. Um, what are you...doing here exactly?” She asked, looking around at everyone, her gaze landed on Max and Xander.

“Hi, mommy!” Xander squealed as he tried to get out of Max’s arms to give his mother a hug.

The table fell silent. Liz couldn't even bring herself to turn around to face Brendan and his parents.

"Oops." Max said. "Did Xander just say something he wasn't supposed to?"

Chapter Twenty-Eight

“Liz?” Brendan asked. “W-what is he talking about?”

Liz swallowed hard, mustering up all the courage she had before turning around to face him.

“I-” She started. She couldn’t lie to him. Not with Xander standing there, listening to every word she was saying.

“Yes,” She answered softly, not looking him in the eye. “He’s my son.”

“Oh my, God.” He said, holding a hand up to mouth. “I can’t- I can’t believe this.” He said. ‘I can’t...stay here right now. I have to go.” He stood up from his chair. Without looking back, he hurried off.

Liz turned her gaze to Max, who looked down at her with a small shrug. “You, outside, <i>now</I>.” She said angrily, standing up from her chair.

“Mommy?” Xander asked, looking at her with sad eye’s. “Are you okay?”

“I don’t know, sweetie.” Liz answered. She glanced back at Eric and Ann. “I’m so sorry for this.” She said. “It’ll be okay though, I promise.”

She grabbed Max angrily by the arm, leading him towards the exit of the restaurant, leaving Xander, Isabel, Kyle, and Michael behind to deal with Eric and Ann.

“I cannot believe you!” She said angrily to Max as the two excited the restaurant. “How dare you!? You had it all planned out!”

“Liz, calm down.” Max said. “He had to know the truth and you know it.”

“I know!” Liz cried out. “But he didn’t need to know <i>now</I>! Not in front of his parents like that!”

“Okay, I admit, that <i>was</I> a little harsh.” Max said. “But I had to do something before you left tommorow! And I <i>know</I> that you still love me!”

“Yes, maybe, but that doesn’t mean that you had the right to do that!” Liz said angrily. “God, Max! What am I supposed to tell him now!?”

At that moment, the door to the restaurant opened and Xander came out, looking up curiously at his parents.

“Daddy, mommy.” He said, “What’s going on?”

“Nothing,” Liz answered, taking her son’s small hand in her own. “Nothing at all, sweetie. Everything’s fine.”

“Okay,” Xander said. “Well then can we go home? Back to the hotel, I mean. I’m tired, mommy, I wanna go to bed.”

“Daddy will take you home, okay?” Liz said gently, looking up at Max. “Take him home, Max. I need to go find Brendan and try to fix this.”

“But, mommy,” Xander whined. “I wanted <i>you</I> to tuck me in! Daddy’s been doing it for a really long time and you’ve never done It before!”

Liz’s heart broke in two as she looked down at her son’s pleading eye’s. “I... you’re right, sweetie. You know, you’re absolutely right.” I look up, looking around the parking lot. Brendan’s car is still parked there. He probably took off for a walk somewhere. The thing was, he had left the keys with her. He would probably walk back to the hotel, it was only a couple of blocks away from here anyway’s.

“You wanna ride with mommy back to the hotel?” She asked her son.

“Yeah!” Xander exclaimed. “Is daddy coming home with us?”

“I think it would be safer for daddy to take his SUV back to the hotel with Aunt Izzie, Maria, Michael, and Kyle.” Liz answered, looking up at Max with and angry look in her eye’s. She was still pretty pissed off at him right now.

Max answered her by smiling at her. Oh Liz wanted to smack him so badly and wipe that smile off his face!

“Could you tell Eric and Ann Harris that I’m sorry for everything and that If they see Brendan, to tell him that I’ll be at the hotel?”

Max nodded. “Sure.” He said, handing Liz the key to the hotel room. “Here. You know which room it is, right?”

“Come on,” Liz said, grabbing the keys from Max as she took the little boy’s hand in her own. She led the way towards the parked white Mercedes- Benz. She opened the passenger door for him and he hoped inside. She went around the car and got in.

I quickly lean over, grabbing the seat belt and tying him up.

“Okay,” I tell him. “Are you ready to go?”

“Yup,” He answered, smiling up at him as she smiles back and starts the car. They drive off, thankfully the hotel isn’t very far away.

“Honey...what did daddy tell you tonight? About going to the restaurant with him?” Liz asked, as she drove down the street. “Did he tell you that I would be there?”
“Yes,” Xander asked slowly. “He told me that you would be there and that we should go and see you to spend time with you.”

Liz fumed angrily. She still couldn’t believe he had had the nerve to do that to her.

Brendan walked down in the sewers, this place was completely disgusting. How on earth could someone live here for God’s sakes. They’re were rats everywhere and the place smelled badly.

He continued walking towards the small patch of light that emanated in the distance. The further he moved forward, the louder the voices grew louder.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, he finally reached his destination. He turned the corner and found himself looking at two people who were sprawled on the couch. Across from them was a pretty blond.

He supposed that women and the man that we’re sitting on the couch we’re Rath and Lonnie. And they’re was no mistaking who the blond was. Tess Harding.

“Brendan?” She gasped, when she finally spotted him. “What the hell are you doing here!? You’re supposed to be keeping an eye on Liz and the others!”

“We have a problem,” He said with a small sigh as Tess quickly hurried into her arms.

“What is it?” She asked, looking up at him.

“We we’re eating dinner.” He explained. “When Max came in with the whole crew and the kid. The kid knows that Liz is his mom. Everybody knows. And now I have a pretty strong feeling that Liz is about to blow me off to go back to that loser and their kid. I have a feeling that she’s not gonna come back with me to San Francisco tommorow.”

“Wait a fuckin’ second here,” Rath said, standing up from the couch angrily. “Who the fuck is this now? What is he? And why the fuck do you keep lying to us about stuff? You want us to help you kill Zan and everybody else but you keep hiding stuff from us and lying.”

Tess swallowed hard. “Fine,” She said. “This is Brendan. Brendan is my brother.”

**************************************************************************************

“You’re not mad at daddy are you?” Xander asked quietly. Liz held Xander’s small hand in her own as the two made their way down the long hall of the hotel.

“I’m not sure what I’m feeling for your dad right now,” Liz answered. “But, don’t worry about it Xan, everything’s going to be okay.”

She pulled out the key to the room and stuck it inside the door, turning the knob and the door opened.

“Okay, sweetheart, go put you’re pj’s on, okay?” Liz said. “And don’t forget to-”

“Brush my teeth,” Xander answered with a grin. “I know.”

Liz smiled as her son. “Go on then, I’ll wait in here.”

She watched as he scrambled off towards the bathroom, closing the door shut behind him. With a sighed, Liz walked over to the bed and sat on it, thoughts racing through her mind. What was she going to do with Brendan? He’s was going to think that she couldn’t trust him, that she had lied to him. And what was she going to do with Xander? She couldn’t leave him, that much she knew. He was her <i>son</I> and therefore he was her first priority. Too bad if Brendan couldn’t understand that.

“Okay.” Xander said, the door to the bathroom opened and he stepped out, wearing light blue pyjama’s which Liz thought we’re completely adorable.

“That was fast,” Liz stated. But then she realized that it he hadn’t been fast but that she had spaced for a good five minutes.

“Yup,” Xander answered, crawling under th covers of the bed. Liz got up and quickly went to shut the lights off in the bathroom and the rest of the room, making sure to closer the curtains so that he wouldn’t be awakened tommorow morning by the light.

“You’re going stay here with me right? You’re not going to leave me, are you?” Xander asked, and Liz could hear fear in her voice. He thought that she would leave him.

“I’m not going to leave you, Xander.” Liz answered, as she walked back towards the bed and pulled the covers up to his shoulders. She got onto the bed and went to lay down next to him, placing a kiss on his small cheek and running a soothing hand through his hair.

“I love you, mommy,” He said in a small voice. “Please don’t ever leave me again, okay?”

Liz felt her heart sink and tears quickly formed in her eyes. She blinked them away, pulling Xander closer to her. “Honey, I’m never going to leave you ever again, okay? I love you, Xander. And I’m so sorry that I haven’t been in you’re life for the passed years, it hurts me so much that I haven’t been able to be with you.” Her voice cracked.

“It’s okay, mommy.” Xander said, “You’re here now, that’s all that matters to me. Just don’t leave me and daddy. Daddy’s heart will be broken if you leave him again. And my heart will be broken too.”

“I promise I won’t leave you,” Liz said, hugging her son tightly. “I promise.”

Ch. Twenty-Nine

<i>“Liz,”</i>

Liz stirred slowly. Someone was trying to wake her up and she didn’t want that. She was comfortable the way she was.

<i>Liz</I> The voice called out to her again, this time louder.

“Go away,” Liz groaned, burying her face in her pillow.

<i>Liz, it’s me, Max.”</I> The voice says again. <i>"Wake up,"</I>

Liz slowly opened her eye’s. The room was dark and she could barely make Max out. “Where am I?” She asked.

“You’re in my bed,” He answered softly, brushing a strand of brown hair out of her face. “You fell asleep here with Xander.”

“Xander?” Liz asked curiously. She turned her head to the side. Sure enough, Xander’s small body lay on the bed next to her, he was fast asleep. That’s when it all came rushing back to her. Brendan. He knew about Xander. He had taken off at dinner and she hadn’t seen him since. She had brought Xander back home and she had fallen asleep.

“What time is it?” She asked groggily.

“It’s almost midnight, Liz.” Max answered.

“Oh my, God.” Liz answered. “Brendan, I have to go see him.” She paused briefly, glancing at Xander. “But I don’t want to leave Xander.”

“Stay here, Liz.” Max said gently, “Don’t go.”

Liz turned her body to look at Xander, who was still sleeping peacefully in the bed next to her. She reached out slowly, running a small hand through his hair.

“He’s beautiful,” Liz whispered softly as she smiled, staring at her son. It felt so surreal for some weird reason. He was <i>her</I> son.

“I know,” Max answered softly. “I can’t believe that he’s ours, Liz. I mean, for weeks when I found out that...when Tess told me that she was pregnant, I kept wishing that he could of been ours. And now...now I find out that he really is and I...it’s amazing.”

Liz smiled up at Max, forgetting momentarily that she was supposed to be mad at him for the stunt he had pulled the night before.

“Liz, I...I don’t want us to be apart again,” He said, staring into her eye’s. “I love you so much, these past seven years have been pure hell for me. I’ve been so worried about you, I barely slept for the six months after you left. Isabel tried countless times to try to dreamwalk you but it wouldn’t work. Most probably because of Tess and her mindwarping capabilities.”

“Probably,” Liz answered with a small sigh. “I just- I can’t believe that anybody could be as cruel as that! Taking my own son away!” She hissed angrily. “God, I swear Max if I ever see her again- you better hold me back because I’m going to be doing <i>alot</I> of damage to her.”

“Don’t worry,” Max reassured her. “I won’t be holding you back.”

“Good,” Liz said, a feeble smile forming on her face.

“Daddy?” Xander’s small tired voice said suddenly. “Mommy, is that you? What’s going on? Is it morning already?”

Both Max and Liz immediately turned to look at Xander, who had now sat up, he was rubbing his eye’s, trying to adjust himself to the darkness.

“Oh, honey,” Liz said, “Go back to sleep, okay? It’s late, daddy just came home and I was just about to leave.”

“Liz-” Max started, reaching out to touch her arm. Liz felt a small shiver run through her as soon as his hand came into contact with her arm.

“Please stay,” Xander begged, looking up at her. “The bed is really huge and I’m sure we can fit all three of us in it! You can’t leave, mommy, you just can’t.”

“Xander,” Liz said, ready to tell him that she was going to go. She was worried about Brendan right now, she didn’t want him to be alone, she had to go find him even if it was late. She had to try to explain everything to him and make thing’s right. But she couldn’t. She couldn’t leave Xander’s side, she just couldn’t leave him.

“Okay.” She said, “I’ll stay. Now, come on, honey, just go back to bed.”

He settled back down on the bed as she pulled the cover’s back up to cover him. She leaned down and placed a kiss on his forehead. “Goodnight, sweetheart.”

“Goodnight mommy,” Xander said, closing his eye’s with a small smile on his face.”Goodnight, daddy. I love you guy’s, lots.”

“We love you, too, Xan.” Max said, placing a kiss on his small cheek before turning to face Liz. “Liz, are you sure you want to sleep here in the same bed with...me?” Max asked quietly. “Because, I can just go sleep on the couch if you want. I don’t want you to feel uncomfortable.”

“It’s okay,” Liz answered. “It’s...fine.” She paused slightly as she lay back down on the bed.

“No,” Max said. “It’s not. Listen, I’m going to go on the bed, okay? I understand-”

“Max,” Liz said, reaching out and grabbing his hand lightly. “It’s okay, really. I don’t mind the sleeping arrangements, okay?”

He nodded, smiling slightly. “Okay.” He answered. “You don’t mind me taking my shirt off, do you? Don’t worry, I’ll keep the pants on.”

“It’s fine with me,” Liz answered, swallowing hard. God help her he was about to take his shirt off!

Max reached out, quickly pulling his shirt off of himself. Liz’s mouth immediately dropped to the floor as she gaped at him. Or at his upper body anyway’s. God he was so hot!

Max smirked as he dropped the shirt to the floor before crawling under the cover’s next to Liz. He had her exactly where he wanted her.

“Goodnight, Liz.” Max said, smiling to himself in the darkness.

“Uh. Yeah.” Liz answered stupidly. “Goodnight, Max.”

“You have to go back to the hotel,” Tess said as she looked up at Nathan. “You have to go back and just...act all hurt and stuff.”

“And then what?” Brendan asked angrily as he paced the grimy, disgusting sewers.

“And then you get her to go back to San Francisco with you.” Tess said. “She <i>has</I> to go back. And Max can’t follow her back to San Francisco with her, okay? Because, trust me, if he does, we’re all screwed.”

“And why would that be?” Brendan asked.

“Because if Max and Liz are together I can’t kill Liz!” Tess explained. “They have that whole stupid connection thing going on and Max would <i>never</I> let anything bad happen to Liz. He’s all protective of her. He’s got power’s and he’s going to protect her. But, see, if she’s all alone in San Francisco with no power’s, I can easily take her out. And I can have Lonnie and Rath take Max out back in Roswell. It’s all good.”

Brendan let out a small sigh. “Fine,” He said. “I’ll try my best. But I’m not promising anything. She’ll probably land up breaking up with me to go back to that idiot and their kid.”

“Well, <i>don’t</I> let that happen, do you understand?” Tess snapped angrily. “Now, get out of here. Go back to her side.”

“Wait!” Lonnie called out angrily before Brendan had a chance to make an exit. “What the hell is this brother shit you’re talking about? How is it possible that this guy’s you’re bro?”

“He was my brother back on Antar,” Tess answered. “Plain and simple.”

“We..didn’t know you had a brother back on Antar,” Lonnie said, her arm’s crossed over her chest.

“It’s because you just don’t remember it,” Tess replied. “Hell even I didn’t know about it until he showed up here a couple of year’s ago. He came all the way from Antar to come and find me.”

“How sweet,” Rath drawled out. “This is useless shit you’re mumbling on about. Why don’t you just get your brother to get outta here so I can watch me and my Lonnie can have a little fun around here. And while your at it, why don’t you just get out of here to? Lon and I would like just a little bit of privacy.”

“Ew,” Tess said, rolling her eye’s in annoyance. “Fine, I’ll be back in a short while.” She looked up at Brendan. “Come on, let’s get out of here.”

**************************************************************************************

Max stirred slowly, letting out a small groan. He could feel someone moving a little in his arm’s. He slowly opened his eye’s. His arm’s had somehow found they’re way around Liz’s small body and Liz’s body had somehow found it’s way into his arm’s. She was snuggled closely to him. So close that he could smell the shampoo that she had used for her hair. So close that he could feel her warm breath on his neck...

He froze when he saw her move a little in her sleep, letting out a small moan. Lucky for him she didn’t wake up. He couldn’t believe that Liz Parker was in his arm’s. That he was holding her finally after all these year’s. This was miracle.

“Max?” Liz’s groggy voice broke to his happy thoughts. “What- what am I doing?”

She seemed to have woken up and was now realizing her position. “Oh my, God.” She said, unmoving. “What am I doing? How did I get in you’re arm’s like this?”

“I don’t know,” Max said defensively. “I <i>woke</i> up like this.”

“Mommy!?” Xander said softly as his eye’s slowly opened. “Hey, you’re still here.” He smiled, turning around to look at his mother, who was still all wrapped up in Max’s arm’s.

“Hey, good morning little guy.” Liz grinned widely, reaching out for her son. He immediately snuggled into her embrace.

“Hi, mommy,” He said, still smiling. “Hi daddy.”

“Hey, honey.” Max grinned, “How d’you sleep?”

“I slept very good.” Xander answered. “Mommy, you’re coming back to Roswell with me, daddy, and Aunt Izzy, right? We get to take the plane! It’ll be lots of fun!”

“Oh, sweety,” Liz said quietly, turning to give Max a look. “I don’t think I’ll be going to Roswell. Not right now anyway’s. I just have a lot to take care of back in San Francisco before I can head back to Roswell.”

“But,” Xander said, tear’s quickly forming in his eye’s. “Mommy!”

“I know, Xander.” Liz said softly. “I don’t want to leave you too but I don’t really have much of a choice right now. I <i>really</I> don’t want to leave you, but...” What was she going to do? What was she going to <i>say</I> to this little boy who was her <i>son</I>.

And that’s when it hit her.

“Well, honey, why don’t <i>you</I> come back to San Francisco with me?” She turned her head, looking at Max. She hoped that it would be okay with him.

“Yes!” Xander squealed. “I wanna go to San Fran...sico.”

“San Francisco.” Liz corrected with a small laugh. “And I’m glad you’d like to come back with me. But what does daddy think? And does daddy wanna come to San Francisco too?”

“Wait, what?” Max said, taken aback by her proposal. “You’d like <I>me</I> to go back to San Francisco with you?”

“Well, why not?” Liz said, looking at him. “I want to get to know my son better and, well, I’d definitely like for us to...be friends again.”

“You and daddy friends?” Xander said with a little giggle. “But you’re my mommy and he’s my daddy. That means you two have to be together forever and now that I know that Liz is my real mommy you two have to get married.” He paused. “And I want a little sister or a little brother.”

Liz blushed at his words.

“Sweetheart, it doesn’t really work that way,” Max said, glancing at Liz out of the corner of his eye. Of course, there was nothing that he’d like more in the world for him and Liz to be married. And he definitely wanted children with her. But she was engaged to Brendan...

“What do you mean it doesn’t work that way?” Xander asked looking confused.

“To be together you have to love one another.” Max explained.

“Well you love Liz!” Xander said. “I <i>know</I> you do! And Liz must love you too or she wouldn’t be sleeping in your arms like that!”

Liz blushed even more, pulling herself away from the two of them.

“No, mommy don’t go!” Xander said. “I didn’t mean to scare you away and make you all red in the face!”

Liz couldn’t help but let you a small laugh at his words, he was just so damn adorable. “So what do you think?” She asked Xander. “You wanna come to San Francisco with me??”

“Daddy, please say yes!” Xander begged, looking at his father. “Please??”

“Well I can’t say no now can I?” Max said, smiling at his son and to Liz. And it’s not like he would of said no either. He wanted to be with Liz. And maybe if he was with her long enough he could make her crack and she would come back to him. He was sure that she still had pretty strong feeling’s for him. But he knew that she was just confused because of Brendan. Brendan was blinding her of the feeling’s that he guessed she still had for him.

“Well, my apartment’s big enough to fit you two in it. I have to extra bedroom’s in there so you can stay with me.” Liz said. “Although I think you’re going to be needing more clothes. I doubt that you brought lots of clothes with you for this weekend considering you only stayed here a couple of day’s. I guess you could just buy some more in San Francisco or I could have Brendan’s pilot bring you to Roswell and back to San Francisco for you to pick up some more clothes back home if you wanted to.”

“Brendan has his own Jet plane?” Max asked in awe. “You’re kidding me right?”

“Actually, I think the Jet plane belong’s to his father.” Liz explained. “Although he uses it a lot when he goes on business trips.”

“And does he go on business trips very often?” Max asked curiously as his son climbed into his arm’s.

“Kind if,” Liz said with a small shrug. “He’s a Lawyer. He’s a very busy man.”

“I bet,” Max said with a small snort. God he hated that basturd. Or maybe he was just jealous of him.

“Alright,” Liz said, “Well I better get back upstairs. I really need to talk to Brendan and sort everything out with him. This might take a small while. I’ll give you a call to let you know what’s going on as soon as I’m done with him, okay?”

Max nodded. “Yeah.” He said. “That’s a good idea.”

“You’re coming back to me and daddy right after you’re done talking to that man right?” Xander asked.

“Of course,” She said, reaching out and placing a small reassuring kiss on his cheek. “I’ll be right back to see you okay? I love you.”

She got up from the bed, taking one last look at her son and Max before she grabbed her purse from the table and walked out of the room, closing the door behind her.

“She’s going to come back, right daddy?” Xander asked worriedly, looking up at his father for more reassurance. “Right?”

“Of course she will.” Max said, running a hand through his son’s hair and giving his forehead a small kiss. “Now come on, let’s go get dressed. We can go downstair’s and eat breakfast with grandpa, what do you say?”

“Grandpa and Grandma still don’t know that Liz is my mommy!” Xander said. “<i>I</I> want to tell them!”

“Uh, sweety,” Max said. “Maybe I should be the one to tell him the new’s, okay?”

“Why?” Xander asked with a little pout.

“Because,” Max said, wrapping his arm’s a little more tightly around his son. “Grandpa doesn’t know about Liz and it might give him a little bit of a shock.”

“Okay,” Xander said with a small sigh. “Let’s go eat breakfast with Grandpa.”
