Part 11: Ridiculous

Post by loviedovie »

Hiya! Sorry, it’s been a while. This summer has not been as laid back as I thought it would be. Thanks to all!
Roswellrox: Thanks! I’m soo glad you liked it. Max did go a little soft there, huh? Gotta mean something… ;)
Prettyfulpink: Welcome and thanks! Music is definitely what I want to put a lot of into this fic, so glad you like it!
GottaFeedTheMonkey1257: He, yeah they sure have some different ideas… ;) Thanks!
RASaero611: Oh yes, their togetherness is a must!
Kismet: Thanks a million for the bumps and support! No stopping for me, at least not permanently...
roswellian504: Thanks, glad you think so!

I hope that you guys enjoy this part… although I’m sad to admit that it may not be as fun as the last few. I kinda wanted to show a bit of what each group was like just together before they left, but don’t worry there will be lots more fun in the next part.

Part 11: Ridiculous

After a good three hours of practicing, Serena decided that it was time for a quick break.

“Okay, let’s break for now. How about some lunch?”

Everyone enthusiastically agreed with her suggestion and began openly expressing their preferences on food.

“Chinese!” Tess yelled.

“No pizza!”

“Quiznos!”

“No, let’s get tacos!”

“Oh my gosh, you guys are so bad at this.” Serena groaned. “Do I have to go and get the hat?”

“Yeah, let the hat decide!” Alex agreed. “The hat never lies.”

“The hat is stupid!” Tess argued.

“No it’s not!”

“Yes, it is!”

“Alright, alright! Calm down, we either eat where I want to eat or we use the hat!” Serena shouted, silencing the two.

“Where do you want to eat?” Tess asked hesitantly.

“Does this mean no hat?” Serena asked everyone.

“No!” everyone shouted back.

“Okay then, we use the hat.” She sighed and headed for the closet. She pulled out an old baseball cap and everyone quickly jotted down what they wanted on paper and stuck it into the hat.

“Okay…” Serena said, once they were all in. She stuck her hand inside of the hat and moved it around. “Mexican it is!”

“Yes!” Tess squealed.

“The hat ain’t so bad now is it?” Michael asked her sarcastically.

“Okay, here’s the menu.” Serena said pulling out a large binder full of fast food menus. “Everyone write down what you want and I’ll go get it. And try to keep the price down peoples. I think we’ve got about twenty five bucks today.”

“Hmmm, that’s not bad.” Liz commented.

“Yeah well, tomorrow it’s P.B. & J.” Serena replied glumly.

*~*~*~*~*~*

“Can we stop now?” Kyle groaned, once they finished the song that they’d been practicing for the last hour.

“Yeah, I’m getting tired of this song. I mean, we just played it about twenty bazillion times!” Maria burst.

“Plus, I’m starving!” Kyle moaned, placing his bass down on its stand.

“Fine, fine. Hold on, let me go and get the book.” Zan sighed, standing up.

“No I remember, it’s my turn!” Maria said, waving him off.

“Hey! I thought that it was my turn to choose today!” Kyle argued.

“No! It’s my turn!” Maria growled.

Zan shook his head and gestured to the others that he was indeed going to go and get the book.

“Nu uh, you like just went!” Kyle protested.

“No, last time Max chose. I go after Max!”

“No I go after Max!”

“Enough!” Zan said holding the book up in the air. “I got the book and it’s… Kyle’s turn to pick where we’re going to eat today.” He said glancing inside.

“Ah ha!” Kyle burst smugly. “I told you so, I told you so, I told you-”

“Yeah, yeah, hurry up and pick someplace.” Maria groaned, crossing her arms across her chest.

“Okay… uh, how about… uh…” Kyle sat down and frowned. “Hmmmm…”

“Urgh!” Maria groaned before throwing herself onto the couch. “He’s gonna take forever!”

Max rolled his eyes at her. “Well it’s better than eating pizza again!”

“Hey! I don’t always pick pizza!” Maria replied.

“Yes you do.” Isabel blurted.

“Do not.” Maria huffed.

“Why are you soo cranky today? Did you not get enough sleepy bye time?” Max cooed.

“No,” Maria replied sweetly. “I’m pmsing, and I’ve got a stick up my-”

“La, la, la, la!” Max yelled, covering his ears. “Don’t wanna hear it!”

Isabel and Maria laughed. “Oh please, it’s better then being taken over by testosterone
stupid-ness 24/7!” Isabel shot out.

“Excuse me, but I happen to be quite proud and satisfied with all of my testosterone!” Max gasped, placing his hand on his chest, pretending to be hurt by her words.

“Kyle did you pick a place yet?” Zan interrupted, causing everyone to look back at where he was sitting in deep concentration.

“Uh, yeah… how about… Oh! That really good Mexican place, Taco Del Mar!” he finally said in resolution.

“Sounds good, let’s make a list and I’ll pick it up.” Zan nodded, pulling out a piece of paper.

*~~*~~*

“Okay, I need three chicken tacos, three pork burritos, two veggie burritos and two cheese quesada’s.” Serena read off of the small slip of paper.

She waited patiently as the staff prepared her order.

“Wow, that’s a lot of food for someone so small.”

She spun around, baffled to see a smirking Zan.

“Hey!” she burst, smiling. “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” she joked.

“Hmmm,” he began, scratching his head. “I don’t think so…” he frowned despite the small twinkle in his eye.

“Oh, I know!” she gasped, pretending to hit herself in the head.

“You’re that kid who got wasted and serenaded me ten years ago with ‘baby got back’, on my birthday, on my front lawn, at two in the morning!” she replied, grinning.

Zan burst out in laughter. “Ohmifreakinggod! I can’t believe that you still won’t let that go!”

“Well I’ve got to say, it was quite memorable.” Serena smirked.

“Yeah especially when your sister threw a bucket of ice water on me from her balcony and then your dad threatened to call the cops!” Zan added.

Serena laughed. “Oh yeah… I was mad at Liz for that you know. She didn’t even know you and she still did that!”

“Yeah well, I did wake her up at two in the morning… so I can understand why she would be mad.” Zan concluded.

Serena giggled. “True…”

“Mam, here’s your order. That will be $23.45” the cashier said, handing Serena her bag of food.

Serena paid while Zan ordered his food.

“Well, I’ve gotta go. See you at work!” Serena told him, smiling.

“Yeah, see you.” He answered, returning the smile.

Serena left happily, as Zan proceeded to order his own list of food.

*~~*~~*

Two days later (Saturday evening):

“Yeah,” Serena laughed, switching the phone from her left ear to her right. “No, no that’s not what I remember… seriously?! Nobody told me that!”

Alex peeked his head into the kitchen slowly, glancing first to the right and then to the left at Serena. He gasped and slowly took a step retreating backwards when Serena put her hand up to stop him, glaring meanly.

“Zan, could you hold on for a minute? Thanks…” she said before setting the phone down onto the table. She stood up and crossed her arms.

“Alex, what are you doing?! What did you not understand when I said that nobody leaves the garage until I said so?!” she shouted.

Alex hesitated. “Uh, well I…”

“Well what?” she demanded, tapping her foot impatiently.

“You were talking to Zan!” Alex shot out suddenly, pointing an accusing finger towards her.

“So-soo?” Serena stuttered.

Alex’s hand shot to his chest as he replied dramatically. “You can’t fraternize with the enemy!”

“Yes I can!” Serena replied instantly.

“No you can’t!” Alex shot back.

“Can too!”

“Can not!”

“And why not?” Serena asked, throwing her hands in the air.

“Be-because, he’s working with another band! That’s why!” Alex answered after a moment.

“So? We’re old friends, we’re just talking!” Serena burst.

He narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. “Oh, really? Just talking eh?!”

Serena nodded. “Yeah, there’s no harm in that!”

“Au contraire madam!” Alex snapped. “You’re always flirting with him! Not only that but you two are co-workers. Who knows what kind of things you do at work… and I do believe that you were missing for a few hours just yesterday! What about that, huh?!”

Serena couldn’t help the blush that crept up her checks at Alex’s accusation. “I was paying my bills and doing some errands!”

“Riiiiight…” Alex replied, nodding at her knowingly.

“I swear!” Serena squeaked.

Alex just smiled smugly, still nodding knowingly.

“Hey A-man, where’s those sodas?” Tess asked, barging through the kitchen door.

“I was just about to ask Mrs. Betrayer where they were!” Alex replied, pointing to Serena accusingly.

“Huh?” Tess responded.

“Maybe we should ask her boyfriend, Mr. my band’s gonna beat you!” Alex burst, running towards the table to grab the phone.

“Alex!” Serena cried, trying to wrestle the phone from him.

“I know what you’re doing!” Alex said into the phone before Serena jerked it away from him for a moment. “You’re not going to get-” he shouted, before she pulled it the other way again. “-away with this!” he finished when he got the chance.

“Zan?” Serena said into the phone after harshly jerking the phone from Alex. “Yeah, can I call you back later? Okay thanks, bye.”

She clicked the phone off and then glared at Alex menacingly. “Why you little-”

“Epp!” Alex squeaked, before bolting out of kitchen.

“Hey! Get back here!” Serena shouted before running after him.

Tess frowned. “Hmm…” She went to the refrigerator and opened it up. She spotted a box of sodas on the bottom shelf and smiled. “Ah ha!”

*~~*~~*

Okay thanks, bye

Zan frowned as the phone clicked off.

“About time!”

Zan turned around and Maria snatched the phone from his hand.

“What are you doing?!” Zan asked.

“What does it look like I’m doing?” Maria burst, holding up the phone. “You’ve been hogging this thing for way too long!”

“Well, you’re definitely not practicing!” Zan answered angrily.

“Oh please, you got to talk to your girl for the last two and a half hours! I haven't talked to my boy in a week!” Maria shot back.

“Oh, so you’re calling Hunter?” Zan stated unhappily.

“Yeah, so what?!”

“You know he only digs you because you’re in a band.” Zan told her glumly. “-and hey! Did you call Serena my girl?!”

Maria smirked, dialing a well known number.

“Hey baby.”

*~~*~~*

Wow, it’s the night before we leave. I should be excited, but I’m not. Not really. Truthfully this whole thing kinda worries me. I mean, if we don’t win then I think that it would devastate some of us. Tess, she has so many goals for this band. She really wants for us to make it. Mike loves music, what would he do without it? He’s not stupid or anything, but I know that he doesn’t really have a back-up plan. Well… nothing realistic anyways, lol. Lizzie, she threw away a lot to be in this band. It shouldn’t be for nothing. Serena has worked so hard to get us where we are now. She pushed us, encouraged us and led us all in the right direction. I just don’t know what we’d do if we didn’t make it. Maybe we could all join the circus? Oh! Or we could join the army. Michael would make a kick-ass general. Anyways, let’s just say that this thing is gonna be important. Just a tad bit…

Part 12: From under the... hood?

Post by loviedovie »

Hiya! My b-day's Saturday, yay! Thank you EVERYBODY for all of your comments and support!!!! If I had more time i'd put eveyone's name down... but I don't right now. Enjoy this part! (I know, i'm kinda obsessed with Fall Out Boy's new cd... )

Part 12: From under the...hood?

Brothers and sisters: put this record down.
Take my advice, ‘cause we are bad news.
We will leave you high and dry.
It’s not worth the hearing you’ll loose.

Liz jolted out of bed at six in the morning as her Fall Out Boy c.d. began to play. “Oh my gosh!”

It’s just past 8:00 and I’m feeling young and reckless.
The ribbon on my wrist says: “do not open before Christmas.”

She danced around the room happily. “It’s Sunday!”

Serena stuck her head into Liz’s room. “Hey!”

Liz ran over and hugged her sister excitedly. “It’s Sunday!”

Serena nodded. “I know! Come on, get dressed. We gotta leave soon!”

We’re only liars, but we’re the best.
We’re only good for the latest trend.
We’re only good so you can have almost famous friends.
Besides we’ve got such good fashion sense.

As soon as Serena left, Liz began to dance, singing along to the music.

Brothers and sisters
Yeah, put these words down
Into your notebook, spit lines like these:
“we’re good friends only when you’re on your knees”
Make them dance like we were shooting their feet.

She fell onto her bed and laughed at her childish behavior.

The phone rang and she frowned sitting up.

It kept ringing as she got up and frantically searched around the room for it. When she finally found it, she was slightly breathless. “Hello?”

“Hey girl, good you’re up!”

Liz smiled at the familiar voice.

It’s just past 8:00 and I’m feeling young and reckless,
The ribbon on my wrist says: “do not open before Christmas.”
We’re only liars, but we’re the best.
We’re only good for the latest trend.
We’re only good so you can have almost famous friends.
Besides we’ve got such good fashion sense.

“Yeah, are you ready?”

“Uh huh”

“Are you sure?” Liz questioned hesitantly.

“Yup.” Tess chirped.

“Absolutely positive?” Liz stressed.

“Yeah Liz, I’m ready. Come pick me up so we can go!” Tess moaned.

Liz rolled her eyes, moving to grab the clothes she planned on wearing that day. “Tess, we can’t seem to go on a single trip without you forgetting something.”

“That’s not true!” Tess protested.

We’re only liars, but we’re the best.
We’re only good for the latest trend.
We’re only liars, but we’re the best.
We’re only good for the latest trend.
We’re only good so you can have almost famous friends.
Besides we’ve got such good fashion sense.
~ “Our lawyers made us change the name of this song so we wouldn’t get sued” by Fall Out Boy

“Fine, give me an example of one trip that we did not have to stop at a department store or a grocery store because you forgot something important!” Liz demanded, pulling her worn jeans on with the phone in-between her shoulder and her ear.

“Okay!” Tess replied.

Liz grinned into the quiet phone line.

Oh oh oh oh, Oh oh ohhh.
Oh oh oh ohh, Oh oh oh ohhh.
Oh oh oh oh, Oh oh ohhh.
Oh oh oh ohh, Oh oh oh ohhh.
You only hold me up like this
‘Cause you don’t know who I really am
Sometimes I just want to know what it’s like to be you
We’re making out inside crashed cars
We’re sleeping through all our memories
I used to waste my time dreaming of being alive
(Now I only waste it dreaming of you)

“Well?” Liz asked.

“I’m thinking, I’m thinking…” Tess hushed.

Turn off the lights and turn off the shyness
All of our moves make up for the silence
And oh, the way your makeup stains my pillowcase
Like I’ll never be the same

Liz skillfully put her bra on while waiting for Tess to say something.

“Ahh! That time my dad took us to the grand canyon!” Tess burst.

“You mean the time you forgot to bring your digital camera and you spent almost ten bucks at the overpriced gift shop for a small cheap one?” Liz replied, grabbing her shirt off of her dresser.

“Oh…I forgot about that.” Tess sighed.

You only hold me up like this
‘Cause you don’t know who I really am
I used to waste my time on
Waste my time on
Waste my time dreaming of being alive
(Now I only waste it dreaming of you)

“Well, what about that time my dad took us to Disneyland?” Tess asked.

“Well, let’s see… we were about ten and you forgot to bring any pair of socks except the ones you were wearing. Your dad didn’t think it was a problem but you convinced him that you would never wear a dirty pair of socks, especially not somewhere as classy as Disneyland. So he bought you three pair of Minnie mouse and daisy socks at the gift shop which may I remind you were not very cheap.” Liz smirked.

“Damn, when did you get such a great memory?!” Tess complained.

Turn off the lights and turn off the shyness
All of our moves make up for the silence
And oh, the way your makeup stains my pillowcase
Like I’ll never be the same
Oh oh oh. Oh oh ohh ohh.
Oh oh oh. Oh oh ohh ohh.
I’ve got headaches and bad luck but they couldn’t touch you
Nooo.

Liz shrugged, pulling her shirt on.

“It runs in the family.”

She grabber her socks and sat down to pull them on.

“Soo… check one last time to make sure that you brought everything. Including clean socks, your camera, tampons, mascara, your cd player and your toothbrush.” Liz told her, trying to list off as many things that she could remember Tess leaving behind before.

I’ve got headaches and bad luck but they couldn’t touch you
I’m not trying
You only hold me up like this
Turn off the lights and turn off the shyness
All of our moves make up for the silence
And oh, the way your makeup stains…
Like I’ll never be the same
Oh oh oh. Oh oh ohh ohh.
Oh oh oh. Oh oh ohh ohh.
~ “Of all the gin joints in all the world” by Fall Out Boy

“Kay, thanks.” Tess answered.

“Sure, see you soon.” Liz replied.

They said bye and Liz turned off the phone. She got up to grab her shoes and a hairbrush before going to find Serena in the other room.

*~~*~~*

“Yo Max!” Kyle shouted, wobbling slightly. “Help me carry this amp!”

He watched as Max didn’t even flinch when he called his name. “Hey jackass!”

Still nothing.

Kyle sighed and put the amp on the grass as carefully as he could.

As soon as he reached Max, who was sitting in the open van, he yanked the white earphones out of his ears.

“Hey!” Max protested.

“Get your lazy ass up and help me carry that amp!” Kyle demanded.

“Oh sure, if you had just asked politely I would’ve been happy to help you.” Max replied easily.

Kyle rolled his eyes. “Well I did ask you politely but you had those stupid things in your ears again!”

“Do not call my baby stupid!” Max protested, getting up to follow Kyle to where he had left the amp.

“Your baby? What are you, a girl?!” Kyle burst, leaning down to pick up the amp once more.

“No, just a caring parent.” Max grinned, taking the other side of the amp.

“Riiight…”

*~~*~~*

Later that day:

Serena sighed, glaring at Liz once more.

“Fine, but you girls be sure to hurry up!”

Tess nodded. “Of course!”

“No dilly-dallying.” Serena warned.

“He he, dilly-dallling… that’s funny.” Alex commented from the back of the van.

Serena shot him a glare.

“Right, we’ll be right back!” Liz reassured before hopping out of the van alongside Tess.

“I knew it.” Liz huffed.

“Sorry… I honestly didn’t think about it until I saw that billboard. You know the one with the marching bunny on it.” Tess explained as they entered the Target they had stopped at.

“Huh?” Liz asked, stopping. “Wait, what are we here for?”

“Batteries.” Tess replied.

“Batteries?! What do you need batteries for?!” Liz exclaimed.

“My camera!” Tess sighed.

“Urgh. You know, this could have waited until we got there at least!” Liz groaned as they headed towards the electronic section.

“But I want to take pictures along the way!” Tess informed.

“Okay, whatever. Let’s just get this and go.”

*~~*~~*

Long ago
Just like the hearse you die to get in again
We are so far from you

Burning on just like a match you strike to incinerate
The lives of everyone you know
And what's the worst you take (worst you take)
from every heart you break (heart you break)
And like the blade you stain (blade you stain)
Well I've been holding on tonight

“Oh come on Max let me see it!” Maria pleaded. “Just for a second?”

“Yeah Max, don’t be a hog!” Isabel agreed.

“Hey, hey now, I spent 300 bucks on this baby! It’s mine, so I use it!” Max announced, holding his i-pod protectively.

They had been sitting in traffic for the last ten minutes and everyone was starting to get restless.

What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Came a time
When every star fall brought you to tears again
We are the very hurt you sold
And what's the worst you take (worst you take)
from every heart you break (heart you break)
And like the blade you stain (blade you stain)
Well I've been holding on tonight

“Yeah but we’ve already listened to this song!” Maria whined.

“So? It’s a perfectly good song!” Max argued. “Don’t you think so Kyle?”

Everyone turned to see Kyle snoozing in the back seat.

Isabel snickered. “Wow, it’s only been about a few hours…”

What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Can you hear me?
Are you near me?
Can we pretend to leave and then
We'll meet again
When both our cars collide?

“Well what if I took requests instead?” Max asked.

“Ooh, but we don’t know what you keep on there!” Isabel whined. “Why can’t we play with it?”

“Maybe after a while you guys can use it… I just bought it last week. Just say a song or a band and I’ll tell you if I have it.” Max replied.

“Okay fine…” Maria grumbled. “What do you have by Blink-182 on there?”

Max grinned. “Well, let’s see…”

What's the worst that I can say?
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

“Serena… what’s going on?” Liz asked hesitantly as the van slowed down and lurched slightly.

“Uh, good question.” Serena replied as the van made a very odd sputtering sound.

“You should pull over.” Alex told her. “It sounds like something’s wrong with the engine.”

“Yeah okay. Oh good! There’s a gas station right off of this exit!” she exclaimed, pulling into the right lane.

The van started to smoke from the hood. “Oh crap!”

“This is not good…” Liz moaned.

Serena rolled the front windows down and strained to see where she was going.

“Okay we’re there.” She sighed as the car lurched to a stop and sputtered before making a popping noise.

Everyone climbed out of the car, waving the smoke from the car that bombarded their faces.

“Well this is just great!” Serena burst, throwing her hands up.

“Listen,” Michael began. “Why don’t Alex and I go and see if there’s a car shop around here. I’m sure there’s one not too far. You girls stay here and just relax, okay?”

Serena nodded. She was feeling stressful and was glad that Michael offered to help. “Okay, thanks guys.”

Michael and Alex headed down the road over to a nearby lot of stores and businesses.

The girls stared at the van in weariness. “We’ve really got to get this fixed up soon. If we don’t then we’re not going to make it there in time!” Serena complained.

Liz nodded.

“Hey Serena…” Tess asked, squinting over at the gas station’s quick-n-mart as three guys exited it. “Isn’t that someone you know?”

*~~*~~*

Wow, after a few hours I already know that this is gonna be one long ride. How did I end up in the back behind the two Hilton twins? It’s amazing that I fell asleep for a few precious hours, I couldn’t stand listening to Maria gush on about Jake Gyllenhal or Isabel’s crude comments about basically any girl who was not her! One that happened to come up an awful lot was Serena. Luckily Zan is up front talking with Max and can’t hear a damn thing we say back here. I gotta say that that whole Serena chick thing with Zan is kinda starting to bug me… but she sure is fine! No wonder he digs her… Anyways, next pit stop Max is gonna have to trade me spots!

Part 13: Breakdown, it's alright

Post by loviedovie »

Hi... sooooooo sorry that it's been so long! But i'm so not stopping this story and here is the next part at last!! Enjoy! :D And have a great holiday everyone!!!

Part 13: Breakdown, it’s alright

“Dude, what’s with all the bubble gum?” Kyle asked Zan, frowning.

“Maria told me to get it, you know that it’s like all she ever eats.” Zan shrugged.

Kyle shook his head. “Geez, no wonder that girl’s always so full of air…”

Max laughed and Zan gave a small grin.

They had been driving for the past few hours and stopped to pick up snacks and use the restrooms.

As soon as they purchased what they wanted, the boys exited the shop, immediately feeling the warm summer sun beat down on them.

Kyle pulled his cold mountain dew out of their bag and gulped part of it down.

“Where are the girls?” Max asked, looking around.

“Maybe they’re still in the bathroom.” Kyle said, looking around with Max.

“Do you see them?” Max asked Zan, who had yet to say anything.

Zan didn’t reply, his focus being elsewhere as he stared ahead of them.

Max followed his gaze. “Oh no, no, no…”

Kyle caught on and shook his head. “Zan…” he warned, but Zan was already striding towards a distraught looking Serena.

*~~*~~*

Liz gasped when she saw Zan striding determinedly towards Serena.

“Serena…” Tess began cautiously.

“Hey.” Zan greeted casually, glancing from the hood of the van then back to Serena.

“Hi.” Serena replied, smiling slowly.

“Need a hand?” He asked, nodding towards the hood of the van.

Serena bit her lower lip and nodded. “Sure.”

He glanced towards Max who stood to the right of him and then to Kyle who stood to the left of him and then walked over and popped the hood open.

Both Max and Kyle followed, neither looking quite pleased.

A cloud of smoke immediately emerged along with a loud sputtering noise.

All three boys took a big step back, waving the smoke away with their hands and coughing now and then.

“This doesn’t look so good…” Kyle frowned, as he examined the engine.

Zan had majored in auto mechanics during college and worked in the town for a while. Max and Kyle, interested in auto mechanics as well, took a small course and worked alongside him as well.

“But can you fix it? That is the question…” Tess said, inserting her own two cents.

Kyle glanced at her from his position, halfway under the hood. He winked and gave her a half smile confidently. “Of course we can.”

Zan tinkered around a bit and then shouted out to Max. “Maxie boy, go grab my tool box outta the van really quick.”

Max nodded then jogged over to the back of their van which was parked on the other side of the parking lot.

When he came back a minute later he was slightly sweaty but held the medium sized tool box they kept in the van for emergencies in triumph.

“Here ya go.”

Zan took the tool box from him and placed it on the ground to dig through it. He pulled out a wrench and then glanced over at Kyle, then at Max.

“What do you need?” Kyle asked.

“I need you to find me a 52 bolt,” he told Kyle “and I need your shirt.” He told Max.

Max frowned. “Why don’t you use yours? I actually like this shirt…”

“Hey, I’ve gotta meet up with Rob and this is my ‘nice’ shirt. Give me yours.” Zan responded, holding his hand out.

Max rolled his eyes and then peeled his white Sublime t-shirt off and handed it to Zan.

“Thanks.” Zan said, wrapping the shirt around his fist.

“You could probably bleach it out.” Serena told Max sociably.

“Nah, grease stains.” Liz reprimanded from her spot in the open van.

“It does?” Serena asked, frowning.

“Yup, remember that one Christmas…”

“No.” Serena replied, shaking her head.

“Yeah you do.” Liz answered. “There’s no way you forgot that year.”

“Well I did, remind me.”

Liz sighed. “You know… when we asked dad what he wanted for Christmas and he said he wanted his car to be fixed then when everyone was sleeping we got up and tried to fix it. Mom was pissed, and she couldn’t fix our dresses because they were all covered in grease.”

“Ooh, right…” Serena smiled. “I do believe that was your idea.”

“How cute!” Michael cooed. Liz slapped him on the arm and he grimaced.

“Ooh…I’ve heard that story.” Zan commented from his spot under the hood. “How old were you again rena?”

“Well, I was thirteen and Liz was eight.” Serena told him.

“Anyways…” Liz groaned. “Grease stains are a bitch to get out.”

“Oh thanks, that made me feel much better.” Max replied sarcastically.

“I’m just saying!” Liz stated bitterly, turning to glare at him.

“Oh yes, you and your wonderful words once again!” Max griped, glaring right back.

“Oh please, you’re not so great with words yourself Maxie boy.” She shot back.

“Well, at least when I speak I don’t sound like a broken fucking record!”

“Excuse me but I’m not the one with the tiny-”

“GUYS!” Kyle burst, causing both Max and Liz to fall silent and stare at him. “Stop fighting like you actually know each other!”

Tess burst out laughing at this.

“Hey!” Liz protested, “don’t tell us what to do!” she told Kyle, who quickly started laughing with Tess.

“Yeah, and stop laughing!” Max added angrily.

Ignoring Max and Liz’s death stare, Kyle and Tess went back over to where Zan was tinkering around under the hood, still laughing with each other.

Liz and Max gave each other one last dirty look before storming off in different directions.

Liz grabbed Tess’ Ipod and crawled into the back of the van. She turned it on, and lied down across the seat with a nearby pillow under her head.

Max turned his Ipod on and climbed into the back of his van and sat in the corner seat after grabbing some AP magazines to flip through.

*~~*~~*

“See, I told you! Look!” Maria burst happily, pointing and smiling.

“Well I’ll be damned…” Isabel replied, awed.

Maria giggled. “Oh my gosh, we have to hurry!”

“Yeah! I know we really, really, have to hurry. The boys are gonna be soo pissed if they find us here.” Isabel added, smiling now.

“Ahh, come on! There’s Guess!” Maria squealed, grabbing Isabel’s hand.

“Seriously! Oh my gosh, let’s go!”

*~~*~~*

“Crap…” Alex sighed, looking around.

“Urghh, there’s so many damn stores! How are we supposed to find an auto repair one!” Michael groaned.

“Hey look! There’s a directory!” Alex said, pointing to the middle of the shopping center.

On the top in large letters it read: Albuquerque Outlet Mall ~ 159 stores and growing!

“No wonder, this is a freaking outlet mall!” Alex burst, throwing his hands up.

Michael grabbed a map and skimmed down the list. “Hmmm…”

“Hey look, there’s a Jose’s auto shop on the other side of the mall.” Michael said, pointing to the map.

“Wow, this place is so huge that it might take a while to get there.”

“Nah, come on let’s go” Michael said stuffing the map into his pocket.

*~~*~~*

“Wow, I cannot believe my luck! I cannot believe that I just bought a cute pair of Guess jeans for only $15!” Isabel squealed.

“I know! That was so awesome and that shirt that I got for only $4, sooo cute!” Maria added.

“Oh look! There’s a Vans outlet!” Maria said, pointing across the way.

“Oh cool, we definitely have to go there!”

“Yeah, come on.”

*~~*~~*

“So this is what an outlet mall is like, huh?” Alex observed, walking beside Michael.

“Yup, guess so.” Michael replied, looking around.

“Hmmm… well, there sure are a lot of stores.”

“Yeah I know.”

“Hey look, this one’s a Vans store!” Alex said stopping.

“Oh yeah, cool.”

“Maybe we could, you know… check it out.”

“Yeah, okay. Really quickly anyways.” Michael agreed.

“Cool.”

They walked in and headed to the guys section of the store.

“Wow, the prices here are really good.” Michael observed, checking out a t-shirt.

“That’s because this is an outlet store you idiot!”

Michael sighed, turning around. “What are you doing here?”

Maria smirked. “The same thing you’re doing here, shopping! This is a free country you know.”

Michael shook his head. “Shouldn’t you be half way to L.A. by now though?”

“Shouldn’t you?” she shot back, not replying.

“Well, we would be except…” Alex began. Michael glared at him and he stopped.

Maria smirked. “Right…” She turned around and called out to Isabel who was busy looking at some sweatshirts nearby.

“Yeah?” Isabel replied, walking over with a few t-shirts in hand.

Alex noticed that she looked a tad bit surprised to see them at first but then hid it quickly.

“You about ready to go?” Maria asked.

“Almost… I just want to go try a few things on. Did you see the $8 section?!”

“No! Where is it?” Maria asked excitedly.

“Right over there in the back! C’mon!”

“Okay, uh… see you on the stage boys.” Maria said, throwing them a wink before turning to follow Isabel.

Michael turned to Alex and frowned. Alex shrugged. “What?!”

Michael just shook his head and headed out of the store with Alex following behind him.

*~~*~~*

“Alrighty then,” Zan said, wiping his hands off on Max’s now very dirty t-shirt.

“Let’s test this baby out.” He said, before closing the hood.

“Wow, already?!” Serena asked surprised, jumping up from where she sat.

“Well, we’ll see… can I use the keys?”

“Sure.” Serena said, digging the keys out of her pocket. She tossed them to him.

Zan hopped into the van and started the engine.

“Oh please, please let this work…” Tess muttered.

*~~*~~*

“Finally!” Michael groaned. “We’re here!”

“Yup… Jose’s auto shop, looks nice.” Alex commented.

They entered the small auto shop and went up to the cashier.

“Uh, excuse me sir.” Michael said, getting the cashier’s attention. “Si senor?”

Alex’s phone vibrated in his pocket and he answered it while Michael tried to explain their situation to the cashier.

“Hello?”

“Hey! Guess what?” Tess replied excitedly.

“Uh… oh no you girls didn’t find out that there’s a-” Alex began nervously.

“Zan fixed our van!” Tess interrupted happily.

“What?!”

“Yeah, we ran into Zan at the gas station and he pulled out his tool box! You shoulda seen that boy working that engine, I mean it only took like-”

“Tess!” Alex interrupted. “So the van is all fixed?”

This caught Michael’s attention and he turned to Alex and frowned.

“Yeah, now get your ass back here so we can go!” Tess replied before hanging up leaving an irate Alex on the dead phone line.

Alex shoved his phone into his pocket, shaking his head.

“What?” Michael asked, confused.

“Let’s go.” Alex said.

Michael frowned, “But-”

“I’ll tell you on the way, let’s just go!” Alex growled.

“Okay, okay… Uh, Jose I have to go.” Michael said, pointing to the door.

“You wanta me fix car?” The man asked, confused.

“No, no, no fix the car. Sorry man, we’re good. I go.” Michael replied, shaking his head and then pointing to the door.

“Oh, okay. You come back later.”

“Uh, yeah… we’ll see. Bye Jose!” Michael waved, edging towards the door.

As soon as they left the store Michael repeated his question. “Okay, what happened?!”

“Well, the van is all fixed up now!”

“Urghh… oh, I see how it is… so we walked all this way when all along it was probably some really stupid, little, easy-to-fix thing that was wrong with it!” Michael complained as they headed through the large outlet mall one more.

“Kinda, it seems they got help from Zan.”

“Ooooh… right. Mr. Zan man to the rescue!” He commented sarcastically.

“Yeah…” Alex rolled his eyes.

*~~*~~*

I remember when we wrote and played our very first song as a band… it wasn’t that great, but we played it like it was. It was such a rush, exciting and new to us all. It took us forever to get it down and then to find someplace to perform it. The songs have been flowing out of us since then, Liz being the main writer (surprisingly enough…). Although Michael like’s to write his own a lot too, since he’s the one who had to sing them all. But we all have to go over it as a band before we decide to learn it and have it as one of our songs. I love getting new songs; it’s amazing the way they can turn out if we work hard enough on them.

Post by loviedovie »

Hey! Thanks to pandas2001 (I’m so glad you caught that mistake there! Thanks!), RhondaAnn (Thanks for reading! I’m glad you like it!) and bluebballjumper (Aww, thanks so much! How cool, I wish I could play the drums… I’ve kept a beat before but it’s harder than it looks!)

This Saturday night, I will be in an author chat at Dreaming Among the Stars. Feel free to come and ask me questions about this fic! Here’s the site: http://p196.ezboard.com/bdreamingamongstars
It will be at 8pm PST / 11PM EST, hope to see you there!

And now… new part! Enjoy!

Part 14: Exnay

“Yes, we’re almost there!” Alex sighed in relief as he saw the van up ahead.

“Yeah I know… hey!” Michael griped. “Look at that! They’re over there drinking their sodas, sitting in the van and laughing it up with that… that buffoon!”

Alex shook his head. “Yeah! And after we walked all that way to that stupid mall all for nothing!!!” he added angrily.

“Oh my gosh, I did not!” Serena was saying when they got there, laughing.

“You so did!” Zan shot back, grinning. “Everybody thought you had gone insane! They hadn’t even considered for a second that goody two shoes Serena Parker had gotten soo wasted at some lame ass Christmas party!”

Alex raised an eyebrow as they finally reached the van. “What’s this about a drunken Serena?”

Zan laughed. “Well uh…”

Serena slapped her hand over his mouth, still giggling. “Now, now children. That’s a good story for… well, NEVER!”

As soon as she removed her hand, Zan nodded. “Yeah… or maybe for next Christmas…”

“No!” Serena protested quickly.

“Well, move over we need to sit down!” Michael griped out to Serena.

“My, my, aren’t you grumpy today!” Tess observed.

“Well, let’s see… I go all the way down the street, through some stupid mall on a hot afternoon to some tiny auto shop, try to talk to the worker who barley knows any English and then I find out that you’ve already gotten the car fixed! So then we walk all the way back here to find you guys laughing it up, in the shade, drinking your sodas!! So, yeah I think that I’m a little bit grumpy too!!” Michael shouted.

Tess sighed. “Here have a Sprite.” She said, handing him a bottle of his favorite soda.

He took it from her silently, still not looking very happy.

“Uhh hmm” Alex ‘coughed’.

Tess smiled softly to herself and grabbed him an orange soda.

“Thanks.” Alex replied gruffly, trying to stay mad like Michael had but obviously failing.

“Zan, I’m gonna go head back to the car and hang with Max.” Kyle said, getting out of the car.

Zan nodded. “Okay, I’ll meet up with you in a bit.”

“Hey, have you guys seen Isabel or Maria?” Zan asked, looking around as soon as Kyle left.

“Yeah, they were at the mall.” Alex replied, opening his soda.

“What?! What mall…?” Zan asked, surprised.

“The stupid outlet mall that we walked down the street to.” Michael said.

“There’s an outlet mall here?!” Tess asked, perking up.

“Don’t even think about it!” Michael warned.

“Yeah, we ran into them at the Vans store.” Alex informed Zan.

“Ahhh… I see.”

“Aww… there’s a Vans store there too?” Tess sighed.

Zan glanced at Serena worriedly but she just rolled her eyes and stood up. “Well, everyone use the bathroom now because we’re hitting the road in five.”

Michael groaned. “We just sat down…” he grumbled.

“Sorry but we’re already way off schedule.” Serena told him, after checking her watch one more time.

“You and your stupid schedules…” Liz groaned from inside the van.

“Hey, it gets things done missy! I wonder how last Thanksgiving would have gone if you had planned everything!” Serena snapped back.

“Well, grandma and grandpa wouldn’t have bickered as much because they wouldn’t have to sit next to each other!” Liz replied briskly.

“Oh you very well know they would have sat next to each other anyways! Besides I put you in charge of one teeny tiny thing…”

“Oh God, please don’t bring that up again” Tess sighed.

“Okay, now you just sound like mom!” Liz groaned.

Serena sighed. “That’s what you always say…”

“Well, that’s how you always sound…”

They glared at each other for a moment.

“Well, I’d better uh… go…” Zan said, getting out of the car.

“Um, wait.” Serena said turning around.

Zan stopped and looked at her. She tucked her hair behind her ear, and seemed much calmer than she had seemed a moment ago.

“I’ll walk you to your car.” She said softly.

Zan nodded and they headed towards his van.

“Well, thank you.” She told him softly. “I mean, you really helped us out a lot today and I really appreciate it.”

Zan shrugged. “It was no problem, really. I mean, I can’t help it if I’m so great with cars!” he joked.

Serena smiled. “Yeah, I guess so. Well I know who to call now, if I ever run into any more problems.”

He nodded. “Yup.”

She bit her lip, nodding too. “Well, uh… goodbye.”

She kissed him on the check quickly but he grabbed her chin before she could leave, so that they were staring at each other eye to eye.

She couldn’t help but glance at his lips quickly and lean forward.

“Serena, I…”

“Shhh” she said, before silencing him with her lips.

As soon as they started to deepen the kiss, Max honked the horn three sharp times, scaring the crap out of both of them.

“Dammit Max!” Zan shouted, whirling around.

Serena giggled. “It’s alright… we gotta go.”

Zan sighed and nodded, turning back to her. “Yeah I guess so…”

“Well, I’ll uh… see you later though.” Serena told him sweetly.

He grinned. “Yeah.”

She kissed him one last time and then headed back to her van. “Bye! Oh and thanks again!” she shouted, waving to him.

“See ya!” He shouted back, waving back.

Zan headed back to the van, grinning like a fool.

He got in the car and started it up, watching as Serena drove off.

Max rolled his eyes. “Did you forget something?” he asked as Zan put the car into gear.

“Nope, we’ll pick ‘em up on the way.”

“Pick them up?! Where the hell are they?!” Max asked.

“Oh, you’re gonna looove this…”

“What?” Kyle and Max asked at the same time, looking at each other.

“I heard they found themselves an outlet mall down the street.” He said pulling out of the parking lot.

“What?! Oh my gosh, those little…” Max began angrily.

“I know!” Kyle agreed, angry as well.

“Well, we’ll just have let them know how we were stuck here worried sick about them while they were gallivanting about at the local mall, won’t we!!” Max yelled.

“Yeah!” Kyle agreed.

“Won’t we Zan?” Max asked.

“Yeah, yeah…” Zan said distractedly.

Max frowned, and glanced at Kyle who just shook his head.

When Serena returned to the van, it was dead silent.

She started up the engine and turned up the radio, grinning and not really noticing the way everyone in the car was looking at her incredulously.

Let me know that I've done wrong
When I've known this all along
I go around a time or two
Just to waste my time with you

Tell me all that you've thrown away
Find out games you don't wanna play
You are the only one that needs to know

I'll keep you my dirty little secret
(Dirty little secret)
Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret
(Just another regret, hope that you can keep it)
My dirty little secret

“Wow, that sure was a close one, huh guys.” Serena commented, shaking her head as she started onto the highway.

Everyone remained silent.

“I mean, if Zan hadn’t come along we…” she continued obliviously, shaking her head and leaving her sentence unfinished for emphasis.

Who has to know
When we live such fragile lives
It's the best way we survive
I go around a time or two
Just to waste my time with you

Tell me all that you've thrown away
Find out games you don't wanna play
You are the only one that needs to know

I'll keep you my dirty little secret
(Dirty little secret)
Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret
(Just another regret, hope that you can keep it)
My dirty little secret

“We what?!” Liz finally burst from the back of the car.

“Huh?” Serena asked.

“What if he hadn’t come along? We would have died?” Liz continued sarcastically. “We would have been all on our own, with no knight in shining armor to tinker around and fix our car!”

“Liz…” Serena seethed. “You have no idea what you’re talking about! We were shit out of luck, in the middle of nowhere! Zan saved our buts and the next time we see him, you’re going to thank him!”

“Oohh… like the way you thanked him sis? Want me to plant a big wet one on him, or should I just fuck him!”

Serena shot a dirty look towards Liz quickly and then turned back to the road, her hands tightly gripping the steering wheel.

“Okay gals, lets not get all pmsy here…” Alex began.

“Excuse me!” Serena exclaimed, now shooting looks back at Alex.

“Exnay on the ingpmsay!” Tess hissed.

“What?!” Alex hissed back.

“You’re not helping!” Tess sighed, shaking her head.

“Ohh…”

“What?!” Serena shouted.

“Um, nothing! Nothing at all!” Alex replied nervously.

Who has to know
The way she feels inside (inside)
Those thoughts I can't deny (deny)
These sleeping dogs won't lie (won't lie)
And now I try to lie
It’s eating me apart
Trace this life out

I'll keep you my dirty little secret

Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret

“Oh shit.” Maria sighed from behind Isabel.

They were in line to purchase their items at the Bath & Body Works outlet.

Isabel turned to look out the window where Maria was looking. “Damn.”

Just then her phone rang. Grimacing, she picked it up. “…hello?”

“Um, yeah just give us a minute.”

Maria went ahead of Isabel to buy her things while Isabel stayed on the phone.

“Just a minute Max!” she repeated, sighing. “I just have to buy a few things!”

“I know, I know! ... It’s not like I don’t have my own money ya know!” she was saying.

Maria had finished her purchase, and the lady at the counter was motioning for her.

“Here, talk to Maria for a minute.”

Still frustrated with her twin brother, she gave the phone to Maria and brought her things up to the counter. She smiled brightly at the lady. “Hi!”

Maria scowled and put the phone to her ear to an angry, swearing Max.

“Yeah, yeah. Irresponsible, unreliable, inconsiderate, yada, yada! We’re at Bath & Body Works and we’ll be outside in a minute!” She told him before turning the cell phone off.

Isabel grabbed her bag. “Thank you very much!” she told the cashier, smiling brightly.

She hurried over to Maria. “We’d better get outta here.”

Maria nodded and followed Isabel out of the store.

Damn this is so stupid. Serena, why did you make us start writing in these stupid journals? You’re probably reading through them all right now… laughing. Well screw you then! Ha ha, you know I love ya like a sis! You and Lizzie, my sizzies. Remember when I freaked out that one day at school? Liz called you up and you ditched class to drive me home. That was really nice of you… I was such a dumbass. All through high school… well, thank God that’s over! Seriously, I would have flunked like every single class if you guys hadn’t been around to copy off of. Okay, enough of this mushy crap. I gotta try to get some sleep because I’m exhausted. Too much writing…

And thank you sooo much RhondaAnn, bluebballjumper, suicide_eagle_rath & TrudyGill23 for reading and for all of your great support! Enjoy!!!

Part 15: Settling

Sunday Evening
Los Angeles

“Hello everybody and welcome to the 10th annual Ernie Ball Battle of the bands!”

“Oh my gosh…”

“Oh my God…”

“Oh my freaking God!”

“Liz, calm down.” Tess soothed, patting her friend’s shoulder. “You’re starting to hyper ventilate…”

“We have 25 bands here, so everybody be nice and make room!”

“Calm down?!” Liz gasped, shooting her friends a look. “You want me to calm down when Pete Wentz, the genius behind Fall Out Boy, is standing practically right in front of me?!”

Tess grinned. “He is pretty hot, huh?”

“Oh yeah! I just wish we could get closer.” Liz sighed, checking out all of the people around them, not to mention the three huge security guards near the stage.

They had luckily arrived just about five minutes before the introduction had begun, but unfortunately this meant that they were stuck near the back of the crowd.

“This year’s winning band will receive: a $10,000 cash reward…” Pete announced to the rather large crowd.

“Wow, we could really use that…” Serena commented.

“…a whole new set of equipment…”

“That too.” Michael added from beside her.

“…a headlining spot on this year’s 10th annual Zeal Tour as well as a whole hella lot of respect from me and the rest of the bands on Zeal Tour!”

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

“See, that’s what we’re here to win!” Zan told the group, as soon as Pete Wentz had gone through the list of prizes.

“Yes… Pete Wentz can respect me any day…” Isabel sighed.

“Not to mention any way…” Maria added, grinning.

“Oh please, that fruitcake?” Max groaned.

“Max, for the last time he is NOT gay!” Isabel shot back at her brother.

“Right… just keep telling yourselves that.” Max grinned.

“Seriously… you’re a girl, aren’t you supposed to notice those kinds of things?!” Max said after another glance at Pete up on the stage.

“Max! Ask any other girl and she’ll agree with me!” Isabel argued.

“No! They’d only agree with you because they’d be on of your little Isabel-worshiping friends!” Max argued back.

“Fine. You want proof?! Those girls over there,” Isabel said pointing to Liz and Tess standing a bit ahead of them. “they could care less about me and they don’t know me. Come on.” She said before heading over to them.

“But-” Max protested. Isabel grabbed his arm and yanked him over to the other group.

“Hey,” Isabel said, tapping the girls on the back.

Tess and Liz turned around, surprised.

“Isabel! Hey, how are-” Alex began happily. Isabel put her hand up to stop him, continuing to look at Tess and Liz.

“Do you think that Pete Wentz is gay?” She asked them, with a dead serious face.

Liz’s eyes widened. “No fucking way is Pete gay!”

Isabel smiled, satisfied and then turned to Tess who looked up on the stage and then back at Isabel before replying, “Definitely not gay.”

“See!” Isabel grinned, glancing back at Max.

“Hey, this isn’t fair!” Max protested. “These girls are obviously bigoted… and besides they hate me.” He replied, throwing Liz a glare.

“We may be bigoted towards this subject, and we may hate you, but we know as a fact that Pete is not gay.” Tess told Max.

“Oh, and what’s your proof?”

Tess smiled, and then glanced at Liz. “Liz?”

Liz bit her lip, glanced over at Michael and then lowered her voice. “Um, well we kinda uh… snuck backstage and-”

Max cringed, stopping her. “Okay, okay. Whatever, I don’t really care that much anyways…”

“Ha! I told you so!” Isabel gloated, sticking her tongue out at him.

“Oh please Izzy, it’s not like we’re five anymore!” Max groaned, rolling his eyes.

Zan called Max and Isabel back over so Max headed back over to him.

Isabel turned back to the girls. “Thanks! Oh and, did you really uh….”

“Nah” Liz replied grinning. “Oh and no problem!”

Isabel smiled and nodded. “Okay, well see you guys later then.” She said before heading back over to the rest of her band who were way past ready to head to their hotel room.

“Yeah, bye!” Tess replied.

“Hey, what was that all about? Why were you being all nice to Isabel?” Alex asked, confused.

“Nothing, we just had a few things in common that’s all…” Liz replied, smiling.

Alex shook his head. “Whatever…” he muttered.

“I want to wish you all the best of luck, may the best band win! Now lemme introduce to you all Colin Hearson, the awesome guy who put this all together!” Peter concluded from onstage.

The chairman of the event went over to the microphone and gave a basic outline of the week which was basically:
Today (Sunday): Check in, relax and stock up your mini bar/fridge
Monday: Practice, practice, practice! Meet and greet party at 2
Tuesday: Practice! Band performances start at noon (check to see what time your band goes), 7pm the bands that are to continue will be posted. Winners will party, losers will pack up
Wednesday: Practice! Perform at local nightclub, beginning at 5 (check to see when your band goes), 7pm the bands that are to continue will be announced. Winners will party, losers will pack up.
Thursday: Band challenges will be assigned at noon, winners will be announced at 7pm. Winners will party, losers will pack up.
Friday: Practice, practice, practice!
Saturday: Final performances go live at 1pm, group party at 5pm, winning band will be announced at 7pm

He went over the things that have been handed out in the packets, thanked the sponsors and wished everyone the best of luck ending with the infamous words: “let the games begin!”

“Alrighty then, let’s go find our rooms!” Serena said to the group, holding up their packet.

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

“I want to wish you all the best of luck, may the best band win!”

As soon as the crowd settled down, Pete introduced the chairman of the event who gave everybody directions on what they were to do next and the basic outline of the next week.

“Alright then, let’s go check into our room!” Zan said, as soon as the speech was over.

He caught Serena’s eye for a quick moment before they left, he winked and smiled at her. She blushed and winked back, smiling as well.

Maria smacked him upside the head and grabbed the info packet that they had been given when they arrived from him.

“Ow!” Zan cried, rubbing the spot she had hit.

“Let me see… we’ve got two rooms on the third floor. Rooms 213 and 214.” She read, taking out four hotel room keys.

She handed one to Zan, one to Max and one to Isabel.

“Hey! I don’t get one?” Kyle asked, hurt.

“Sorry, we only got four.” Maria shrugged. “You can share with Max.”

Kyle frowned. “I don’t share well with others!” he grumbled

Maria laughed. “Yeah, I know…”

They walked up the stairs, along with the rest of the crowd, to their floor.

“Hmmm… here we are!” Isabel said stopping in front of room 214. “Girls get this room!” she said, sticking her key into the door slot.

“Okay then, guys get this room!” Alex called back childishly, running to room 213.

Everyone checked out the nice hotel rooms they had and put their coats and bags down before heading to their van for their luggage.

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

“Liz!”

Liz stopped; half-way up the stairs. She turned around and almost burst out laughing at the sight of her friend trying to drag an enormous bag up the steps.

“Wait…for…me.” Tess ground out, yanking her bag up a few more steps.

Liz bit her lip, trying not to smile. “Hang on, I’ll help you…” Liz set her duffel bag down at the top of the steps before heading down to Tess’ aid.

“I’ll take this handle and you take the other one.” She said, grabbing a handle from Tess.

Tess nodded, breathing heavily.

They both yanked on the bag, pulling it up some more steps. “Geez, what... the hell... did you pack?”

“Hey! You know very well... that this is light packing for me… but it was hard because I could not... decide on what outfits I wanted, and what shoes…went with…them” She whined as they pulled the bag further up the steep steps.

“It really sucks that the elevators are so crowded….” Liz said breathlessly as they took a quick break.

Maria nodded. “I know.”

Liz looked up at the last five steps. “Okay, once more. One…. Two….heave!”

They yanked the bag up two steps, then two more, then….

They cried out as they both toppled over onto the bag at the top of the staircase. Maria rolled off of the bag first, laughing at Liz who was practically hugging the huge bag.

“A little alone time with the sac?”

Liz lifted her head to see a smug looking Max Evans head towards the stairs.

She scowled before pulling herself up.

“Oh don’t stop on my account!” He joked, walking past the girls and down the steps.

Liz stared at his retreating form menacingly, not saying a word.

Tess glanced at Liz, surprised. “What, no comeback?”

“Come on, let’s go.” Liz muttered, grabbing her own duffel bag. “Our room’s just there.” She said, pointing to room 212.

Tess sighed and grabbed her bag again and followed her to their hotel room.

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

As soon as everyone’s things were loaded into the hotel room, Serena decided they should all get together and go over the shopping list.

“Here’s the menu I made you guys plan the other day!” Serena said, pulling out a notebook. “Now I’ve made a shopping list of the things we’ll need based on this but is there anything else that we’ll need? I’m going to pass this around and feel free to add to it, but only if you think it’s important! We have to be sparse with money you know….”

“Yeah, yeah, we know.” Michael said, snatching the list from her. He went over it and nodded, “looks fine to me.” He said, handing it to Tess.

Tess looked over it and then jotted a few things down. Alex put one thing down as well and Liz just glanced at it before giving it back to Serena.

Serena looked at the new additions to the list:
Tampons
Snapple
Alcohal

She frowned. “Okay… but Alex, 1. There’s no A in alcohol and 2. I’m not buying that for you guys.”

“Why not?” Alex pouted.

“Because we actually have to practice you know! Besides you’re all under the age of 21.”

“Any more questions?” Serena asked.

“Okie dokie then,” she stood up. “I’ll be back shortly, why don’t you guys unpack and get some practicing done!”

As soon as she left, Alex groaned. “Gah, she’s so freaking organized! Make it stop!”

Liz laughed. “I know, can you believe that I’m related to her?!”

“Ummm…” Maria began, glancing at Liz’s small duffel bag and back pack neatly placed in the closet.

“Okay, don’t answer that.”

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

If you’ve heard anything bad about me, don’t believe it, please. I’ve had so many weird rumors spread about me, and I’m so sick of it. Of course, maybe that was just high school… things could be different now. I think the rumors started when I began to hang out with a rather vile crowd, those popular girls who every girl secretly hates and every guy openly wants. Like my good friend Ava for example! It took me a few years to actually comprehend the kind of person she truly was. As a freshman, she was the first friendly person I met in high school, so I ended up following her around. I met her friends, her fashion standards, and soon her ridicule as well. She talked about anyone and anything behind their back…and looking back, I wish I wouldn’t have stood beside her. I wish I hadn’t pretended to agree with everything she said.

Part 16: Not the desperate type...

Post by loviedovie »

Okay I am super sorry that this fell into the dead and buried category once again... I know, I'm a horrible updater! :(
Thank you to those of you who left comments on my last part, unfortunately they've been deleted or I would thank you all personally. But if there's anyone out there who still wants to read this there here's a nice long part... and it's pretty m/l based, so hopefully that's okay
So to "celebrate" my first day back to school (senior year ) here it is, enjoy!:

Part 16: Not the desperate type…

Monday morning: 11am

“Hey, donuts anyone?” Zan called, entering the quiet hotel room.

“Hello?!” He called once more, frowning. He had left about an hour ago in hopes that everyone would be up and dressed by the time he’d return.

Of course he didn’t spend that whole hour picking out the dozen of donuts he held in his arms. He had met Serena at a nearby Starbucks first.

However the “kids” didn’t need to know about that… Zan thought, grinning.

He swung the bedroom door open and frowned, there were only three lumps spread out in the room.

“Alright, who’s missing?”

Nearby Gym

Max strolled out of the locker room happily. He had put on a pair of comfortable black gym shorts and a white t-shirt.

He looked around the gym and grinned, surprised to see a familiar face.

He walked over to the biceps curl machine in the corner of the room. He sat down on it and glanced over at Liz who was using the leg curl machine besides him.

“Thirty-four…thirty-five…thirty-six…” Liz continued counting, not acknowledging Max’s presence.

“Hey,” Max greeted, grinning cockily.

“thirty-seven…thirty-eight…” Liz continued to count and push her legs on the machine, not responding.

“So… do you work out often?” Max asked, beginning his bicep curls.

“thirty-nine…forty…forty-one…”

“You know you can’t just ignore me and I’ll go away!” Max groaned, pushing his arms harder.

“Forty-two…forty-three…forty-four”

“Maybe we should start over you know? Friends?” Max asked, stopping the movement of his arms.

Liz glanced over at Max and picked her water bottle up, remaining silent.

“So… friends?” Max repeated, holding his hand out for Liz to shake.

Liz gulped down some of her water, picked up her sweat towel and headed to the locker room.

Max frowned. “Okay then…”

He continued to finish his set of curls and was about halfway through a set of leg curls when Liz waltzed out of the locker room, her wet hair up in a tight bun.

Max grabbed his things and walked over to her. “Hey.” He grinned.

Liz kept walking and he continued alongside her.

“Why are you following me?” Liz asked through clenched teeth.

“Because, you’re such a friendly, nice person of course!” Max replied cheerfully.

Liz looked at Max and raised an eyebrow. What she did next surprised Max about as much as it pleased him; she laughed.

Max grinned and Liz kept laughing.

“Oh-my-” she tried to speak but couldn’t. She shook her head and wiped her eyes. “Good one…” She said.

“Um thanks.” Max replied, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

“No seriously, why the hell are you talking to me?” Liz asked abruptly, no longer laughing. She stopped in front of him and crossed her arms defensively.

“Huh?”

“You and your gang keep trying to get all cuddly and friendly with us, why is that? Are you trying to screw with us and our gig? Just because our managers are all googly-eyed or whatever doesn’t mean we want to be your friends.” Liz spit out harshly, barely even realizing how nasty she sounded.

Max raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Well, well aren’t we being a bit rash?”

“Excuse me?!” Liz exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air and taking a step forward.

“Stop talking to me and my band because we want nothing to do with you!” She burst, jabbing him in the chest with her finger.

She may be crude, but Max had a feeling there was more to her hard exterior. However he still remembered the way she had attacked Sean not too long ago and decided he’d better let it go for now.

“Fine, I’m sorry if I insulted you or something.” He told her, holding his hands up.

Liz glared at him suspiciously before leaving to continue on her way to her hotel room.

Max followed a few feet behind her, enjoying the view.

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

Liz stormed into the hotel room grimly, muttering under her breath. When she looked up, everyone was staring at her.

“What?!” Liz asked, exasperated.

“Where have you been?” Serena asked with her hands on her hips.

“The gym.” Liz muttered in response, dropping her gym bag on the ground and plopping onto her bed in the other room.

“Well thanks for the note!” Serena bit back sarcastically.

Tess sat next to Liz. “Are you alright?” she asked softly, glancing at Liz cautiously.

Liz sighed. “Yeah… just annoyed and extremely bitchy.”

Tess smiled. “Oh.”

Liz glanced at Tess. “What do you mean oh?” she snapped.

“Nothing… It just sounds like you had another run in with a certain member of ‘Destined to Rule.’” Tess smirked.

“Huh?!”

“Oh I overheard Serena talking and I guess that’s Zan’s band’s name; Destined to Rule.” Tess replied.

Liz laughed. “That’s a lame name.”

“Yeah.” Tess agreed, laughing as well. She paused, thinking for a moment. “Then again our band name is Abducted….”

Liz frowned. “Yeah but Abducted sounds so much cooler.”

Tess nodded. “Yup you’re right.”

“Soo… what happened?” Tess asked after a moment.

“Huh…? Ohh.” Liz replied, forgetting for a moment what they had been talking about before. “He was bugging me… and I just snapped on him I guess.”

“Uh oh…” Tess sighed.

Liz glared at Tess.

“No I mean you always do this Liz.” Tess sighed turning to look at her friend.

“Do what?” Liz asked, frowning.

“Get angry at guys who like you.” Tess replied, rolling her eyes.

“He does not like me; he just wants to annoy me.” Liz argued.

“Lizzie, there’s only one reason he’d want to annoy you like that…. Remember that one day in like fifth grade when Freddie wiped dirt all over your dress?”

“Yeah… he pissed me off, I loved that dress.” Liz replied, shaking her head.

“Yeah but then he told you he liked you a year later.” Tess reminded her.

“Yeah and then I almost broke his nose…” Liz nodded, smiling softly.

Tess nodded sadly. “He was actually really cute, and he just wanted you to notice him.”

Liz shrugged. “Well he wasn’t doing a good job then.”

Tess sighed. “Liiiizzz, you don’t get it…”

“Or you just don’t want to.” She added, glancing at Liz accusingly.

Liz sighed. “Whatever. Let’s go practice.”

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

“Okay one more time guys, it’s almost 2!” Zan announced. “And a one-two-three-”

Zan sat down and listened as the band played the song for their first performance once more and smiled. They sounded great and he could not wait to hear the praise they were sure to receive from the judges.

As soon as they were done with the song he told them to put their instruments away and to get ready for the “meet and great”.

“So… how was the gym?” Kyle asked Max as he unplugged his bass and put it away.

“Fine.” Max grumbled, stuffing his drumsticks into his equipment bag.

“That good huh?” Kyle quipped “C’mon, where’s those endorphins?”

“Oh I dunno Kyle,” Max replied, smiling fakely. “Shoved up your ass I suppose…?”

“Ooooh, I knew your drumming sounded exceptionally good today… not to mention loud. What happened at the gym?”

Max sighed, shaking his head. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

Kyle frowned, standing up. “Whatever… but I’m telling you this for your own good, watch out for the ‘Hilton twins’ over there.” He said, nodding to where Maria and Isabel were chatting in the other room.

Kyle left the room with his bass and Max sat back down on his drumming stool. He pulled his drumsticks back out and began to play some more.

He relaxed himself as much as he could but he could still not get over the things that Liz had shouted to him before. What was wrong with her? He was a friendly guy, what was wrong with having a friendly casual conversation with her? She seemed incapable of such a thing… and Max was going to change that. He had to.

*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*

“Welcome everyone!” Pete announced from the stage at the front of the room. “Please go around the room, meet and great and enjoy the food! Now here’s a little mood music…”

He handed the microphone to Patrick and picked up his bass guitar, many cheered surprised that the band was actually going to play for them.

She says she’s no good with words but I’m worse
Barely stuttered out, “a joke of a romantic”, or just stuck to my tongue

Serena turned to her band, determined to keep them out of trouble. “Listen, no funny stuff. Now, go have a good time and I’ll meet you all back at the hotel room by 4 o’clock for more practicing, okay?!”

Everyone nodded or muttered their understanding before splitting up to look around the room.

Weighed down with words too over-dramatic
Tonight it’s “it can’t get much worse” vs. “No one should ever feel like…”

Liz grabbed Tess by the arm. “Let’s see what they’ve got to eat.”

Michael and Alex turned to go the other way, intent on joining a group of people watching the football game in the next room.

I’m two quarters and a heart down
And I don’t want to forget how your voice sounds

“Mmm croissants.” Liz grinned, picking up a paper plate.

Tess smiled. “Yay.”

“Uber-yay!”

They both turned to see Kyle standing next to them with his own plate, grinning happily.

These words are all I have so I’ll write them
So you need them just to get by.

“Ahhh, well hello to you too happy pants!” Tess greeted dryly.

Kyle smiled. “Same to you.”

Liz rolled her eyes, watching the two while she ate.

Dance, dance we’re falling apart to half time
Dance, dance and these are all the lives you’d love to lead

“So, how’s the practicing going?” he asked.

“Fine.” Tess replied bluntly.

“Good.” Kyle nodded, noticing Tess’ icy tone of voice.

Dance
This is the way they’d love if they know how misery loved me.

“Well if you’ll excuse me I see a friendly blonde over there needing my assistance.” Kyle said, popping a grape into his mouth before leaving to the other side of the room with his plate.

You always fold just before you’re found out
Drunk up it’s last call, last resort, but only the first mistake

“Urgh.” Tess sighed. “Such a dork.”

Liz smiled as Tess shook her head.

“Yup.” She agreed, nodding.

“I mean why does he keep bugging me?!” Tess wondered aloud, grabbing a cookie from a tray on the table.

I’m two quarters and a heart down
And I don’t want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I’ll write them
So you need them just to get by.

“He loooves you.” Liz replied, grinning.

“Ha ha.” Tess replied, rolling her eyes.

“Well you said it yourself earlier…”

Why don’t you show me the little bit of spine you’ve been saving for his mattress, love

“You said, ‘Lizzie, there’s only one reason he’d want to annoy you like that’” Liz continued, trying to imitate Tess’ higher pitched voice.

“I did no- wait, maybe I did…” Tess began, frowning. “Okay but that was different!”

“I don’t see how it’s any different.” Liz replied smugly.

Dance, dance we’re falling apart to half time
Dance, dance and these are all the lives you’d love to lead

“Well it is.” Tess protested.

“Whatever…. So you’re saying that guys who are annoying are just annoying? There’s nothing behind it?” Liz asked, calmly.

Tess nodded. “Of course.”

Dance
This is the way they’d love if they knew how misery loved me.

“Good. Then we’re agreed. There’s no liking going on between our band and Destined to Rule.” Liz replied, tossing her paper plate in the garbage.

Tess nodded slowly then stopped. “Hey wait a minute….”

Why don’t you show me the little bit of spine you’ve been saving for his mattress, love
I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me

“Hey did you see the food table?” Kyle asked, greeting Isabel and Maria.

They nodded.

Maria snatched one of Kyle’s mini croissants off of his plate.

“Hey, get your own!”

Dance, dance we’re falling apart to half time
Dance, dance and these are all the lives you’d love to lead

Maria just stuck her tongue out at him.

“So where’s Max and Zan?” he asked, looking around the crowded room.

“Well, Zan is talking with Serena and some other managers over there.” Isabel said, nodding to the right of the room.

“And Max is talking to some not so intelligent girl over there.” She said, nodding to one corner of the room.

Kyle nodded. “I see. And what are you girls doing?”

Dance
This is the way they’d love if they knew how misery loved me.

“Just scooping out some cuties over there.” Maria nodded towards the other side of the room. “Wow, look at that guy Iz.”

She nodded to a tall, dark haired guy with his back to them near the entrance of the room.

“Hmm, he has a nice butt.” She continued.

“Okay! Well, I think that’s my que to leave… talk to you later.” Kyle replied before heading off towards Max.

Dance
This is the way they’d love
This is the way they’d love

Maria continued to stare at the guy as he ran his hand through his dark, very soft looking hair.

When he turned around and made eye contact with her she gasped.

Isabel giggled. “Well, well, well. You should let Michael know how great you think his ass is.”

Maria tore her gaze away to hit Isabel.

“Ow!”

I'm sleeping my way out of this one
With anyone who will lie down

Michael frowned as Maria abruptly stopped their staring match.

What the hell was that…? He wondered.

“Are you alright?” Alex asked as Michael focused his attention back on him.

He nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine.”

I'll be stuck fixated on one star
When the world is crashing down

Alex frowned. “Okay, well you zoned out for a moment there… and I would have sworn you were staring at that loud blonde girl.”

“Who Maria?” Michael asked, laughing nervously. “Of course I wasn’t!”

I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I'm not the desperate type

“Right.” Alex replied. “So anyways, do you think I should keep that little guitar lick I did in practice today?”

Michael nodded. “Yeah, I was surprised by it but it worked great.”

“Cool, yeah I was surprised by it as well. It just came out.”

“What came out of where?” Tess asked as she walked up with Liz besides her.

But you've got me looking in through blinds
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I'm not the desperate type

“The guitar lick I played earlier today.” Alex replied.

“Ahh, yeah that was tight. Didn’t know you had it in ya.” Tess responded, nodding in approval.

Alex smiled. “Yeah I guess we’re keeping it then…?”

Liz nodded. “Yes, definitely keep that in.”

I’m sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn't you

“Hey isn’t there like a rule or something that tells us girls we can’t chew gum and twirl our hair at the same time?” Tess asked abruptly, staring at something on the other side of the room.

“Huh?” Liz asked.

Tess nodded to the back corner where Max was talking to a petite blonde girl who was doing just that.

“Especially while talking…” Tess continued. “I mean who does that?!”

I'm not going home alone
Cause I don't do too well on my own

Liz turned her attention to the corner of the room and watched as Max smiled, talking to the ridiculous looking girl Tess spoke of. He looked up, catching her eye for a moment and then turned his attention back to laugh at something funny the girl said.

Liz turned back to look at Tess suspiciously. “So?”

Tess shrugged, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth as she noticed the small exchange between Liz and Max. “It was just bugging me.” She replied innocently.

I’m sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn't you

Max laughed, smiling as he had just noticed Liz glaring at him and the girl he was speaking with.

“So do you have any embarrassing stories like that?” she asked him, still twirling the same damn piece of hair around her finger to Max’s dismay.

“Um well… I can’t really think of much right now.” He replied.

I'm not going home alone
Cause I don't do too well on my own

“Awww,” She squealed. “that’s too bad.”

“Yeah,” Max nodded, deciding that enough was enough.

Just as he was about to excuse himself Kyle headed over to them. “Hey Max.”

“Kyle, hey!”

Kyle smiled at the girl he was talking to.

“Oh, Kyle this is Tina. Tina this is Kyle.” Max said, introducing the two.

“Hi.” Tina greeted, shaking Kyle’s hand.

“Nice to meet you.” Kyle replied.

The only thing worse than not knowing
Is you thinking that I don't know
I'm having another episode
I just need a stronger dose

“Well, I’m going to go get a drink. I’ll see you two later.” Max said before heading off towards the food table.

Kyle frowned. “Uh-”

“So, Kyle what do you play?” Tina asked, grinning as she began to twirl her hair once more.

I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I'm not the desperate type

Max picked up a paper plate and put a few things on it and grabbed a cup of soda.

He picked up a croissant and popped it in his mouth before picking up his soda and heading for the door so he could sit outside.

Just as he was about half way there he felt the urge to sneeze.

“Ahhhh”

But you've got me looking in through blinds
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I'm not the desperate type

He tried to hold it in but failed. “Choo!”

His eyes closed as he sneezed and his hand jerked, hitting somebody in the chest with his soda.

I’m sitting out dances on the wall-

“Ahh!” someone screamed in his ear as he felt his soda spilling out of the cup.

He opened his eyes, scared to see what he had done.

The music had stopped and Liz stood in front of him, her grey t-shirt covered in his pepsi.

She looked up, glaring at him.

“I-I’m so sorry.” Max told her, putting his cup and plate in a conveniently close garbage can. “Really sorry.” He continued. “Can I get you some napkins?”

What worried him the most was that she hadn’t said a word yet. No screaming at him, no yelling, no cursing, nada.

“Liz?” Tess asked nudging Liz in the arm. “Are you okay?”

It was then that Max looked around to see the whole room’s attention on them. Even the band had momentarily stopped playing to make sure everything was okay.

“Yes.” Liz replied, nodding. “I’m going to go change.” She added rather calmly.

The band, hearing that everything was fine, went back to playing.

Trying to forget everything that isn't you

“Can I do anything to help?” he asked worriedly, wanting to do something to make it up to her.

I'm not going home alone
Cause I don't do too well on my own

“Liz,” Tess whispered. “he sounds sincere…” she mumbled.

Liz didn’t say a word however and abruptly started for the door.

I’m sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn't you

“Liz!” Tess called, starting to go after her.

Max stopped her. “Wait, let me.”

Tess frowned. “Well… alright. But don’t make things worse.” She warned.

I'm not going home alone
Cause I don't do too well on my own

Max nodded before taking off after Liz.

Tess sighed, hoping she did the right thing. She headed back to Michael and Alex who were nearby ready to pound Max.

“Where did he go?” Michael asked, looking around.

“Michael, calm down. Liz is fine.” Tess assured. “She just went to change.”

I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I'm not the desperate type

“I know but where’s that smartass who spilled his drink on her?”

“Max left. Don’t worry about him, it was an accident.” Tess replied.

“An accident?” Michael scoffed.

But you've got me looking in through blinds
I keep telling myself
I keep telling myself
I'm not the desperate type

“Yes.” Tess shot back. “Don’t worry about it!”

“Um hey Tess?”

Tess turned around to see Kyle next to the blonde girl she had criticized earlier. “Yes?”

“Did you happen to see where Max went?” he asked.

I’m sitting out dances on the wall
Trying to forget everything that isn't you

“He went home, he’s fine.” Tess replied.

“Oh, okay. Thanks.”

“Hi! I’m Tina.” The blonde said, introducing herself.

“Hi!” Tess replied, sounding as happy as she could. “I’m Pixie, with a y!”

The girl frowned. “Oh, but I thought he said your name was Tess…?”

I’ve never really had much of a problem when it came to girls. Because of course I’m good looking and I’m in a band (girls really love drummers, seriously more than lead singers sometimes). However I haven’t dated too much. My parents always considered me shy actually and my sister… well she had her stupid opinions that I’d rather not discuss about my lack of girlfriends. I’m not much for playing the field I guess, I actually believe in that one girl one guy long meaningful relationship kind of crap. Most of my friends are the opposite though, but I can tell that in the long run they want the same thing. Out of the five girls I’ve ever had a relationship with; I’ve loved three of them. Well at least I think I did. And I’ve never had a relationship shorter than a month long. Now that our band may finally be taking off, I can’t help but worry about all of those skanky girls who are probably going to follow us around when we’re famous (because we will be soon!). I have yet to meet a groupie that really, truly liked me. They all just want to sleep with you! Okay, so that didn’t sound very manly but I can’t help but want someone who actually sees me. Who won’t take my crap and will keep me going every day. That’s the girl for me.
