I look down at my the small bikkini I am currently wearing and smile.
"It would defiantly get boys' attention." I joke.
"But I think I'll change. Want to come with?" I ask.

God, why did I have to even speak? “Oh no, the burgers great.” Max speaks quickly and I glance up to look at him, “And I don’t need a refill, this is great thanks.” Is it just me, or does he seem as nervous as I am? I find myself just looking at him, waiting to hear his voice more. I'm so pathetic. Why would I ever think that he would be interested in me?
“And no your not intruding…its nice…talking to someone…different…” Okay, my heart really needs to calm down. I really need to stop this reaction when it's not going to go anywhere. “I mean…you.” He looks down and I can't help but feel a smile coming on. He's always seemed so... I don't know... confident before.
“You know..erm…those outfits you wear here…you seem to pull them off quite well…” I open my mouth to say something but he adds quietly, “I mean…very.”
I smile, "Thank you." I can't help to reach down and straighten it, feeling slightly self-conscious. Others might be disconcerted or batting their eyelashes at a compliment spoken in such a way, but me... I'm not sure what to think. Nibbling my lip I glance down and then back up, wanting to say something more so I can keep hearing his voice.
“So…how are you?” Max asks and I smile again because he's given me something I can actually use to make conversation that won't sound quite as idiotic as my attempts.
"I'm doing alright, bit worn around the edges. How about you?" I ask, a smile on my face as I look at Max across the table, hoping that I won't seem like an idiot.
"Are you ready for the midterms?" He's so attractive, so quiet. I can't believe we're actually talking to each other. I can't believe I am actually sitting here with him. I'm going to have to figure out something to do in order to thank Alex. We wouldn't be sitting here if he hadn't insisted that I sit down and rest. I don't think I'd even let myself take a break until after helping to close tonight. I have every intention of studying after work when I get home and anytime I can over the weekend. My grades had dropped, but not too drastically yet. I just have to make certain that I don't do badly on these exams. If I can keep my grades above nineties on them, then I won't lose my grade point average that I need for college's to accept me with full scholorships.
The thought of working like I was now just to live and go to college wasn't a pleasing one, but without a scholorship I'd end up having to do three times as much. I sigh, forcing myself to look at Max and stop thinking about college's. I didn't have time right now and I might not have the opportunity. My sleeping pattern is all haywire enough without letting myself start that thought process right now.

I know I'm staring at her again, but I really can't help it. She's just so... perfect. In everyway. And I can't help but wonder if she knows she is.

Ok, firstly, I just made myself sound incredibly lame and boring. Secondly, I can't believe I just said coming here. It can sound in either two ways, a) I'm a guy who just constantly eats burgers and greasy food... or b) That I'm her stalker.

Man! I come in to the Crashdown still feeling a bit high from my last practice session with the band. I feel great, the music still singing through my body. I know she thinks that'll diminish her standing, but I know she'd be HOT.

She nods in answer and I smile, relieved that I don’t have to go into the girls changing rooms. Being around all those sports playing girls always makes me feel so lazy and puny.
“Right, I’ll see you by my car then,” I state before making my escape.
Heading away from the swimming pool and then out towards the parking lot, I feel a little sad. I love coming to school, its one of the only times that I’m not completely by myself. My parents are always so busy with work that they don’t get to spend too much time at home. Not that I mind too much. I understand how important their careers are and I do enjoy the life style I’m able to lead because of their money.
Unlocking the silver land rover that my parents bought me for my birthday, I sigh. I’m having second thoughts about heading to the Crashdown. I really should be working on my college applications. The sooner I get them in the better I’ll feel. I mean, slackers do not get to attend Harvard.

My favorite person walks through the doors and I am instantly relieved.
"Hey Maria," Zan greets as he makes his way over to me. He looks a little conflicted regarding the seating arrangements so I give him a warm smile. "What's new with you?" He questions with his usual charmning flair. "Same old. Same old." I remark with less than stellar enthusism. "My parents are going out of town for a convention which means Kyle and I are left in charge of The Crashdown all weekend." I mumble irritated that they once again disreguarded my social engagements. Then it hits me!
"I have a beyond brilliant idea!" I shout loud enough for the entire establishment to hear. Opps. Steeping closer to Zan I lean over and whisper in his ear. "Since the parental units are going to be absent for the entire weekend we should throw the biggest party of the year here at The Crash." The minute I say it outloud I know it's going to take some major convincing Kyle to swing his vote my way. Leading Zan over to the table where Kyle and Rath are I put on my cutest most innocent smile.
"Oh Kyle! I have the best idea ever. You wanna hear it? I know you do. So I was thinking maybe we could have a quiet gathering of friends over tonight after closing." Trying to be sly I ease him into the idea. "You know just the neccesities, some food, nice conversation, and maybe a keg or two in the back.." I trail off with a hopeful grin.

D’oh! I did not want to or need to and again want to hear that really she’s my sister, maybe not by blood but still! So I nod slowly. This seems to set the poor guy off. “Look don’t worry I’ll make sure nothing happens… I wouldn’t do that to you. I didn’t do it to Zan with you know who, I m not gonna start doing it to my best friend.”
Oh. Oh! I get it now it makes since now. But before I can say anything I hear him say. “She so wants me”
ok ugh why? I look over at Rath the dude is my best mate but I know what he is like with women luckily I also know Maria can hold her own. So decided I say. “That’s a completely different thing you know, though you made the smart choice there man. Look if you like Maria and she likes you then there is nothing wrong with going out with her, I’m not blind I seen the two of you blatantly flirting. Don’t do that in front of me ever again by the way!” I stop choosing my words carefully now. “It’s just that I know your track record with women. But I can trust you not to do anything like that with her right?”
Before he can answer though Maria with Zan in toe comes over smiling.. Innocently... what is she plotting? I get my answer when she starts talking.
"Oh Kyle! I have the best idea ever. You wanna hear it? I know you do. So I was thinking maybe we could have a quiet gathering of friends over tonight after closing. You know just the necessities, some food, nice conversation, and maybe a keg or two in the back.."she trails off.
Why didn’t she just ask for the party? Why did she have to get all sneaky and insult my intelligence by trying to trick me? Just for that I’m gonna work for it. “But Maria weren’t you just saying how you have too much to do as it is?” I ask. “And don’t you have a date tonight anyway? Dan or was it Stan? You know I really think you should take it easy your doing way to much.” I then smile just as innocently as she was a moment ago. “I really don’t think your up for any... Quiet gatherings... tonight.”

Kyle gives me a funny look before answering.“But Maria weren’t you just saying how you have too much to do as it is?” He questions looking at me doubtfully. There's always time to party! Okay, not the best motto ,but you get the picture.“And don’t you have a date tonight anyway? Dan or was it Stan? You know I really think you should take it easy your doing way to much.” Since when does he care about my romantic entanglements? Is he serious?
Examining his prominent features I see that charming smile that I know I wore just moments before.“I really don’t think your up for any... Quiet gatherings... tonight.” Huh? This can't be the same Kyle who used to beg me to take him to parties. "First off, I do have a date with Doug... but if I'm not mistaken and I rarely am... He told a bunch of his footballer buddies that he was planning on taking me up to Lover's Point to..." Funny looks all around. Blushing sheepishly I continue, " Uh... well the name is pretty self explainatory, but seeing as how I don't kick the gear shift on a first date I'll suggest we stay here."
Making one last attempt to convince him I grin widely, "Please Kyle. Mom and Dad are gone and I've been a good girl for the past 16 years." Laughter all around. "Okay, relatively good anyway. Come on. You'll have a great time I promise. Some jamming music, lots of food, and just 20 or 30 people tops." Still unimpressed I pull out the big guns. "Alright what is it gonna take to get you to agree to help me throw the biggest party of the year? What do you want? I'll do your chores for a month." I offer hoping he will take the deal. "Name your price. We'll negotiate." Sliding into the booth next to Rath I cross my arms to show him I mean business.

"Yeah, I think so. I don't really do much except study and come here..." Max replies and I can't help but smile because I'd enjoyed seeing him everytime he came in. While he was speaking, I heard the sound that told me another customer had entered and saw his brother walk in. Man, why do they both have to be in here at the same time? It's so confusing seeing both of them at once. Zan is in a band and I haven't even had the chance to hear him play in several months because of work and school being the only constants in my life.
I only see him here in and at school at different times. I can't help but sigh as I sit there and feel the same confliction I've felt for a while now. It's not as though either of them would ever think about me as anything other then the girl who used to be somebody but was now a simple motherless waitress at an alien themed cafe'.
"But yeah I'm alright." Max ends up adding and I look back at him, nodding. It seems strange, sitting here across from him and simply talking to him.

I shake my head, "It's not as easy as it used to be. Studying, working, classes, paying bills... it's not always as easy as it used to seem like it would be. I must sound really boring." I listen to Maria trying to sweettalk her step-brother into a party. Sounds like a good idea to me, but I'm a bit distracted by Liz. She's looking at me. I can see it. She's watching me. Damn, she's hot, too. I know she's the reason that Max comes here most of the time, but he never actually does anything. Does he expect her to wait forever?
Nah. Maybe it's time for her to get some real attention from someone who knows what he's doing.

I listen to Maria trying to sweettalk her step-brother into a party. Sounds like a good idea to me, but I'm a bit distracted by Liz. She's looking at me. I can see it. She's watching me. Damn, she's hot, too. I know she's the reason that Max comes here most of the time, but he never actually does anything. Does he expect her to wait forever?
