A/N This is a sequel to my fic Trick or Treat. It was something just thrown together in a few hours so please be kind

Happy Thanksgiving (at least to those in the USA)

1/1

Isabel stood in the dining room checking to make sure that the silver ware had been arrange correctly on the table. This was her first Thanksgiving with Alex and she just wanted everything to be perfect.

Seeing nothing out of place, she went back to the kitchen where her mother was sliding the turkey back into the oven. Isabel knew she was driving her mother crazy with her perfectionist tendencies but she figured that maybe it would keep her mind off the fact that her brother had disappeared to New York.

At first her mother had not wanted to celebrate the holiday, but after a bout of tears, she gave in. So in just under an hour not only would the usual crowd of grandparents, aunts and uncles appear but so would Alex Whitman.

“Relax sweetie.” Dianne said to her daughter as she noticed her agitated state. She couldn’t help but wonder for the umpteenth time about the boy who caused this reaction in Isabel. This would be her first official meeting of him since they began to date.

“I can’t help it mom. I just want to make a good impression with Alex.” Isabel said as she opened the door to the pantry, “We did get the orange soda, right? It’s Alex’s favorite.”

Her mother couldn’t help but smile at the worry in her daughter’s voice, “Yes. You called me twice on my cell phone yesterday while I was at the store to remind me.”

“What time is the family coming?” Isabel said as she wondered if she should walk through the house just to make sure everything was still tidy from her cleaning spree the night before.

“Probably any time now. What time did you tell Alex to arrive?”

Looking at the microwave clock Isabel was surprised to see it was already after 12:00, “I told him around 1:00. His parents were driving to Las Cruces for a late lunch with his grandparents and Alex was coming after he saw them off on their trip.”

Dianne gave her daughter a nod before turning back to continue fixing dinner. She only had a few more minutes before the mob would appear and she had to make sure everything got done before then, “Why don’t you tell your father that everyone should be here shortly.”

Isabel turned and headed out of the kitchen stopping in the living room to relay the message to her dad before she ran upstairs to her room. She shut the door and slump against it wondering if it had been a wise idea to invite Alex to such a large family function. She should have just waited until it was just her parents and them.

With a sigh she walked over to her dresser. Already the Thanksgiving meal was ruined by her brother’s unexpected trip to New York. It had broken her mothers heart when he had not come home and seeing her mom so upset had caused Isabel to break down and cry along with her.

Isabel had almost canceled with Alex but since she had invited him a week ago and really wanted to spend the holiday with him she had talked her mother into having it any way.

She couldn’t help but smile as she recalled a few weeks ago on Halloween when she had found herself at his door and told him how she truly felt about him. Since then they had hardly been apart as they explored their new relationship.

Isabel had been so excited when she had invited him to Thanksgiving at her house. Isabel had wanted to show him off to her family and let them know that he was the one and that one day he would be a part of their family.

Checking out her image in her mirror she made sure not a single thing was out of place. Isabel knew Alex loved her no matter what she looked like but she couldn’t help but enjoy the thrill she got when his eyes popped out of his head at the sight of her.

DING DONG! The doorbell rang and for a moment Isabel thought about Halloween and how she and Alex had made use of the time between the kids Trick or Treating.

“Isabel! Could you get the door? It’s probably your grandparents.” Her mother called from the kitchen.

Flying down the stairs in record time she opened the door to hugs and kisses from her grandparents. Isabel hadn’t seen them in months and was very happy that they had come but still nervous about the whole situation.

Next her other relatives arrives and soon every one was crowded in the living room talking as they waited for the turkey to finish in the oven.

“So Max will not be joining us for dinner?” Grandma Evans asked with a slight frown on her face. Clearly she was disappointed in not seeing her grandson.

Isabel looked over at her mother and saw the tears form in her eyes at the thought of her missing son, “No Grandma. Max is away on a trip.”

Her uncle rubbed his belly and smiled, “That just mean more food for us.”

“Actually, Isabel’s boyfriend will be joining us for dinner.” Isabel’s father said causing her to redden as everyone’s eyes turned to look at her.

“Boyfriend?” Her aunt grinned, “Does this boyfriend have a name?”

“Alex Whitman” Isabel said

“Must be serious if you are willing to let him near us.” Her uncle said with an even bigger grin on his face.

Isabel’s worry increased as she saw the way each person was smiling. What were they planning? She wondered to herself.

While everyone finally gathered in the kitchen Isabel paced the entry way waiting for Alex. She didn’t have long to wait before the bell rang announcing his arrival. Quickly she flew open the door and pushed her startled boyfriend back on to the porch. In his hands he was carrying a cake pan which made her glad he hadn’t dropped it.

He gave her a worried look, “Is everything alright, Iz?”

Isabel nodded and glanced back over her shoulder hoping none of her family had come out, “I just wanted to warn you about my family. I think they are planning to interrogate you.”

Alex couldn’t help but smile, “I figured as much. I think I can handle your parents, Isabel.”

Isabel groaned. Why hadn’t she told him that her relatives would also be here today, “It’s not just my parents in there, Alex.”

He raised an eyebrow, “Did Max come back from New York?”

She shook her head, “My Grandpa and Grandma Evans are here as well as my aunt and uncle.”

Alex’s face blanched at the thought of facing her family. He knew that he could handle her parents but he didn’t think he could with the rest of the Evans’.

Seeing the distress in his eyes somehow calmed Isabel and she reached out and took his hand in hers, “It’s going to be okay, Alex. I know they are going to love you as much as I do.”

He gave a nod and tried to smile but the nervousness was still there. Isabel couldn’t help but chuckle before leaning forward and pressing a gentle kiss to his lips, ‘Come on before dinner starts getting cold.”

Alex followed her into the house and into the dinning room where everyone was already sitting. All eyes were focused on him as he stood there beside Isabel with the cake dish held protectively in front of him.

Isabel quickly made introductions to everyone leaving her parents for last. Alex put on his best smile for all of them just hoping that he would make it through dinner in one piece.

“Alex you didn’t have to bring anything.” Dianne said as she took the cake dish from him.

“Actually my mother thought it was a good idea since I tend to eat more than my fair share. She just wanted to even up the dessert a bit.” Alex chuckled over his mother’s words.

The entire table laughed over his comment and soon Isabel and Alex were seated at the table. Automatically his hand reached for hers under the table his nerves still very much apparent. Especially since most of the family was still looking at him and sizing him up.

Alex shouldn’t have worried though because with Isabel by his side he knew he could make it through anything. In fact, he had a great time with her family and he finally relaxed and enjoyed the meal.

Isabel was feeling proud of her boyfriend and even got a nod of approval from her mother when Alex was talking to her uncle. With very little effort he had unknowingly fit into the family and brightened a day that had almost been gloomy.

Leaning near him so that she could whisper in his ear, “See I told you they would love you.”

Alex turned to her and grinned as he squeezed her hand. Her heart flipped at the sight and she couldn’t help but return the grin. She had so many things to be thankful for after this year of ups and downs but the most important thing was sitting beside her.

The End.
