Zan

Ava suggested that we head over to some bar blasting country music. Not our usual type of place but who cared anyway. Raith made some clever remark, but I wasn't sure what it was because soon afterwards, Serena piped, “The cat has found the mouse. He likes to play hide-in-seek.”

What cat? Hide-and-seek? Between who? Max, Liz, me, her, who? “He gave up everything to find her, and he found her broken.”

Gave up everything to find her?

I shook my head. Her codes were just too difficult to decipher.

I heard Raith groan. "Come on. I'm hungry. Let's at least see if this place has decent food," he said impatiently as he and Lonnie strode past us

I maintained my earlier pace and asked Serena quietly "What cat Serena?"

"A time-traveler? Me?"

Max asks, staring in something like disbelief. I'm sure he must think I'm mad, I guess I would think the same had I not been there...

Biting my lip, I nod slightly, looking down as memories from that night run through my mind.

*Me, standing in front of my mirror, imagining my wedding day*

*Seeing him...refusing to believe he is who he says he is until...*

*Max singing outside my window*

*The roses*

*My whole life falling apart*

"But why wouldn't you tell me? Why didn't I tell me? Why go to you?"

He doesn't know what to think about this, and I can't say I blame him...

"According to Zan and the others, you're part of the gorup, too, although I don't really understand how. Did he say anything about that?"

I shake my head as Max says this last, not really knowing what to say myself at the moment. How can I explain something that I don't understand myself...? I swallow, forcing myself to look up at him again. "I-I don't know about the last Max, I don't know how I'm a part of this, or why, or what's supposed to happen... The version of you from the future never mentioned that, he just said that if we were together, Tess would leave, and everyone would die because of that when it came to fighting Kivar..."

Hesitantly, I reach out to take his hand, unsure whether he'll try and pull away, but just needing to have some contact right now... I've dreamt about telling him every day since, dreamt about being able to tell him the truth, but I never thought it would happen... "Y-ou said that if the two of you met, you'd both be destroyed, and that was why he came to me... Because you and I were the only two who could do what was needed..."

*'I need you to help me fall out of love with you.'*

I close my eyes, trying to rid my mind of these memories but then just won't go... It's then that I realise what I have to do though, it's then that I realise there's only one way to really explain...

"Max...?" I swallow and look at him. "I know that I don't deserve to ask this after everything I've done, but will you trust me...? I want to do more than explain, I want to show you... Will you let me do that...?" I ask him softly. "Will you make a connection with me, will you let me show you what happened?"

~Isabel~

"Um Liz, what is going on?" I hear Alex say and turn, feeling slightly calmed knowing he's there. Not that there's anything big between us, but he's always managed to help me calm down. Of course, I can see his confusion and wish that there was something I could do to make it easy to understand.

"In case you were wondering, that's not Isabel," Max explains after the strange attack on Liz from the girl Serena. Of course, Max had connected and obviously learned that there had been some sort of lie. What kind? I had no clue and it probably wasn't any of my business but it seemed to have something to do with Kyle. "Or Michael. Their names are Vilondra and Raith. Those are Ava and Zan. They're our doubles and they came here for help. The other girl is Serena."

"C'mon, let's leave," I hear Zan tell the copies of us and turn to see them gathered together. My copy was looking sort of smug and it bothered me that she had said something about our predecessor and asked me about it. Without caring how it might seem, I walked over to stand next to Alex and watched and listened as plans were made to meet up later.

"Whatever boss." Raith, the copy of Michael replies. I look at him and can hardly believe that he's supposed to be the same as Michael.

"Will she be all right? I want to help Serena. I need to talk to all of you." I glance at my brother and then back at Vilandra as I wonder whether I should try and talk to her in private as well.

"I still can't let go, I've still got your face painted on my heart, scrawled upon my soul, etched upon my memory." Serena starts speaking as though in another form of a riddle, but it also sounds like some sort of song.

"Maybe we should let preppy boy here," I hear Raith start and turn to look at him with a glare. "Settle things with his crew." He's looking at Zan but that doesn't keep me from thinking that he needs to stop insulting my brother. "Now that they know 'bout us, they can find us when they need us. And maybe give her a break from all of this?"

"It's your call, man," Zan replies and he seems a bit different from the rest of them. Then again their Tess, (Ava), seemed different from ours too. Not so much just because of appearance, but attitudes seemed different. "If you're up for it, by all means let's get on with it. If you're not, we'll find you later."

"I guess we can't," Max replies after looking at Liz. "Not right now. Not until we figure out why Serena says that Liz can't do it yet. Maybe we can meet up again in an hour and brainstorm some more."

"Serena," Max questions and I glance over at him with surprise at his next words. "Zan, do you think there's a way the Granolith can help Serena or make Liz able to help her?"

Why would he mention that? That wasn't a good idea to do. We don't know how much of what they say is true. What if they've done something to make this girl crazy?

"It's worth a shot.." Ava comments in reply and I can't help but wonder whether we're about to have a massive problem. "If something bad is heading our way, we need to be ready, and we will need her… well."

"We're going for a ride?" Serena questions

"Do you want to go for a ride?" Ava asks her.

"A ride in the desert under the stars." Serena simply replies, almost child-like.

"So where is the granolith?" Ava asks Max and I look over at him as though to tell him that we need to talk about this before he does this. Michael isn't even here, it can't be done without all of us agreeing because it's import to all of us. We've all been trying to figure things out for the Granolith.

"I do need to talk to Liz first," Max responds and I instantly exhale slightly. "We can meet at the school in about an hour. Maybe the rest of you can spend some time getting to know each other," I nod as Max looks between myself and Tess. Whatever he wants to do at the moment, as long as he's not rushing into things with our copies.

"Unless you want to have some time to yourselves," Max says toward Zan and I kind of hope that's the case. I'm not sure how I feel about all of this yet.

"We can call Michael and Maria so they can join us, later."

"You guys sort out your- whatever, and we'll meet up with all of you later." Zan replies and I'm once again feeling relieved.

"Great. See you soon," Max replies and looks at Serena before looking at Liz, "Let's go." He then turns to Alex and Kyle, "Could you give Isabel a ride for me? I need to talk to Liz alone."

"I'll be fine, Max. You go." I say simply, not wanting him to be concerned about me when there's obviously something going on that he and Liz need to fix.

I see Kyle nod, "Ok sure. Alex you need a ride?" I simply shrug as I see him suddenly run off after the Tess copy and the others.

I turn to Alex and sigh, "Would you like to be filled in on the chaos you missed?" I ask him with a light smile. Though, inwardly I wasn't feeling like smiling at all. I simply just wanted nothing more then to vanish into thin air and forget everything. I still hadn't told Max everything I'd learned the night of my surprise party and the night I'd killed Whitaker.

"Isabel? Could you make sure the place is locked up for me?" I hear Max ask and simply nod. I know he's got important things to do. "And maybe you and Tess can bring Alex and Kyle up to speed. I'm sure they have even more questions than we do."

"Don't worry about it, Max. I'll lock up and if either of them want questions, Tess and I can definitely handle it." I reply.

I watched my brother leave and simply sighed, moving about to make sure everything was set up for being locked down.









~Vilondra~

"There are a couple more who know and they're already on their way," Max replied as I asked if there were others in on the secrets.

Ava of course had to jump in with a question, "Okay you've never met anyone, where it was like you just knew them from somewhere else? Like you recognized something in them at first sight, like you just knew?"

I watch as Zan's double, Max, shakes his head and wait as he seems quiet for a moment before he turns to Ava's double, "Did Nacedo tell you anything about a human-born second?"

"No Max, Nasedo never said anything to me about a human born second." The other Ava replies and I can't help but think to myself that she seems just as wimpy as our Ava, though there's something else… "If Nasedo knew I wonder why he didn't tell us?"

"Nacedo was our protector," Max explains and I simply roll my eyes as I glance over at Raith, like I really cared who this Nacedo creep was.

"He raised Tess separately. The rest of us met him less than a year ago. He died shortly afterwards."

"The dude's dead, so does it matter?" I heard my brother say and grinned. "Right now, we need to find your Second. The dead guy's not going to help any. Now fellas, I need to have a chat with Maxie boy here for a sec."

I watch him guide Max over to the corner for a talk and smirk as I look at these other dupes. Not to mention the humans with them. It was simply going to be rather fun being here to mess with them while my brother sought out what he wanted to. I, on the other hand, had other things to continue working on. Things that would get me back where I wanted to be. On top, with all the power

"She looks like a wild thing in bed man. Mind sharing?" I hear Raith say and turn to see him looking at his dupe's girl. Seems he has the same idea in mind as I'm getting. Toy with them and simply make them worry. Of course, I had my own reasons for what I'm doing. Reasons that even Raith didn't know. Although, I was beginning to think it was time to make the offer of power to him, to gain his true assistance in the matter

While Max and Zan are in the midst of a talk, I suddenly hear a scream and know without looking that it's our dear Serena. I barely contain the urge to simply laugh. I can't stand that girl.

"LIZ!" I turn and hear Max scream out as he moves up toward the top of the stairs.

I turn to my dupe and smirk, "So, Isabel… what do you know about us, I wonder?"

I see her shake her head as though to deny knowing anything and I grin, "Oh, don't try to deny it. I know that you have to know a little bit, especially after the way you responded to hearing my name." I see her eyes glance up slightly and laugh before simply shaking my head.

Glancing up above at the top of the stairwell, I see my brother and his dupe. Let them fuss over Serena all they want. I'm going to plan on having a little fun here. I return my attention to the scene near me and let the others go through their own motions, wondering just how things will play out with Raith's double. "As long as you don't mind me sharing my fist with your face," he replies and I smirk.

Of course, I also can't help but think how enjoyable it could be to see if he's anything like my Raith.

"Maybe I should go get Liz?" His girl says and I can see she's a bit nerved up with how Raith is acting.

"Want some company?" Raith asked and I began thinking of just what fun it could be to maybe enjoy something with his double while he was having his fun with the human. Or, even watching him with the human would be fun.

"If anyone goes with her it's going to be someone from our group." Ava's dupe replies and I start laughing right then and there. She's so certain she's going to have to play rescuer, then again, sometimes the humans involved with me and Raith thought so. "I can go with you and we can stop and get everyone supper!"

"Just volunteering my help Blonde." Raith replies and I simply watch as Max and Zan come back down with Serena and they help her into a room before coming out. Ava remaining with Serena.

Things turn to other talk, Raith's double and his woman end up taking off. Of course, they'd only misunderstood the situation. I'll have to learn his name and where he lives so that I can reassure him that he hasn't lost his position. Of course, while I'm at it, I'll just have a little fun with the situation.

"Well it's not wanted so back off!"

"Watch it, tart." I warn quietly as I step up. Who does this girl think she is stepping in to interfere in our business?

"Okkaaay...what's going on...?" I suddenly hear and look up to see a girl that bares a slight resemblance to Serena. Hmm, maybe that's the girl.

I listen as things begin getting explained, confusion mounts and chaos becomes the norm. The usual things being said by the wonky Serena, her strange words nothing new although the meaning was different and had to be interpreted rather often.

"Lons.." I hear Raith suddenly and turn to him, "This could be fun."

"Damn straight, babe. It's gonna be a blast, Raith." I reply with a quiet laugh so as not to interrupt the others.

Things turn to other talk, Raith's double and his woman end up taking off. Of course, they'd only misunderstood the situation. I'll have to learn his name and where he lives so that I can reassure him that he hasn't lost his position. Of course, while I'm at it, I'll just have a little fun with the situation.

"Michael. Please don't go far. I need you to help me here," I hear Max calling after him and smirk, Michael. Well, that saves me some problems.

"A-are you leaving...?" I ask him softly, trying desperately to keep my voice from shaking.

"No," I hear Max tell her and want to once again comment about human mentality but instead just share a look with Raith. "At least, I don't think so. Nobody's mentioned it."

"This is Zan. That was ... our name ... back on Antar. And this is Vilandra and Raith," Max introduces and I simply nod my head. "And that was Ava who just left. The other girl is Serena and they came her because she needs help

"Maybe you should sit down," Max tells the new gitl that entered, "Zan?" He beckons his little crew over and I watch my dupe move over closer to him. "This is Liz. Can you explain to us how you met Serena and how you knew who she was?"

I listen without comment as Zan and Max go through things with this girl, Liz and how quick the human was. I was actually tempted to applaud but knew that the mood of the moment would simply earn me a look from my brother who was already aware of how I felt about these things.

Finally, it was decided that we would leave and all meet up later which meant that I could get a few things out of my system very soon. Of course, it took Serena stabbing Liz with a letter opener and Max healing her, obviously seeing something during the connection. From his expression it must have been something bad, but I knew I'd have to wait and see what it was about although it seems that Liz lied about something. Big surprise.

"Ain't that the shit?" Raith had asked me and I'd simply laughed silently and looked at him with an expression that told him exactly what I thought of how Serena had done that.


We all walk out and I'm still thinking of the fact that the Granolith had been mentioned. My, my… if that aint the shit. Well, that's just one more thing to report on later. I wonder if our dupes will decide to actually take us to the location. If they do, then I will have more then done my job. I will have the chance to deliver exactly what Khivar wants and get him back. I'll be back on top. Inwardly, I smirk though on the outside, I remain stoic as I listen.

"Yo, don't you think we should scat? I mean, look at her. We don't want her going balistic on these humans." Raith comments and I grin, my hand skimming over his crotch through the fabric as I think of some of the things I'm gonna do to him while we chat later.

"Well we gotta go grab a bite, catch ya later though." Ava says and I roll my eyes so that only Raith can see it.

"It's a possibility. We'll just have to wait and see," My brother says and I can't help but laugh silently, barely keeping my voice low. Wait until I saw him again and told him everything that was going on.

"For all we know, the Granolith might be a weapon of mass-destruction," He comments and I remain silent. "Come on, let's just get outside first."

"What about over there?" Ava questions pointing towards a bar nearby that was playing country music loudly. "We can grab something to eat and I doubt with that loud hick music anyone could over hear us."

"Why am I not surprised that this rat-hole town has a damn country bar?" I laugh openly as Raith comments, turning to see him smirk toward me. Yeah, we want fun and we'll have it. He was obviously thinking the same thing. I smirk back and repeat the earlier movement of my hand, looking at him with promise.

"The cat has found the mouse." Serena begins and I roll my eyes again. "He likes to play hide-in-seek." I shake my head. "He gave up everything to find her, and he found her broken."

"Let's make this meal to go so you can get Serena back to the hotel to rest. I think me and Raith will go sightseeing and then meet ya later." I looked at Raith, raising a brow in question to see if he agreed.

Ava

Zan asks Serena what she meant but she doesn't seem to hear him and continues to look at the rooftops of the buildings.

"Let's make this meal to go so you can get Serena back to the hotel to rest. I think me and Raith will go sightseeing and then meet ya later." Lonnie says

"I can get us something and you can take Serena to rest." I offer. I think this trip is starting to take its toll on everybody. And maybe I'll run into that Kyle boy. "There's a park over there. Maybe you could take her for a walk or something." I say remembering how Serena liked to walk to clear her head.

"I-I don't know about the last Max, I don't know how I'm a part of this, or why, or what's supposed to happen... Liz says, reaching out to take my hand. I let her do it without moving, but on the inside I've definately pulled back. It's only a physical contact. Nothing more...

Okay, that makes some kind of crazy sense. Two of me in the same place would be a problem in physics... Maybe he was slightly out of phase with this time, like when the Skins came and made all the humans disappear...

"Max...?" she says, interupting my thoughts. "I know that I don't deserve to ask this after everything I've done, but will you trust me...? I want to do more than explain, I want to show you... Will you let me do that...? Will you make a connection with me, will you let me show you what happened?"

My eyes go wide as I feel myself bracing to automatically reject the idea. When I saw how Liz saw me, back when we first started dating, the depth of her feelings had left me completely awed. Since I found her in bed with Kyle, I'd been avoiding that, afraid to see how much her feelings had probably changed. But I've already seen that, when I healed her. Her feelings hadn't changed. Just her actions ... Should I risk this?

Hesitantly, I turn my hand over so it's palm-to-palm with hers. "I don't know if it'll work. You can't usually control what flashes are seen. It's usually random," I say. In fact, I'm sure I got flashes from her during that time, just before I gave her the tickets to Gomez. I'm sure that was after the Mariachi band and I know I didn't see this person-from-the-future then...

"But I guess we can try ..."

Zan

"Maybe you could take her for a walk or something," Ava suggested after Lonnie and Raith sauntered off.

"C'mon, Serena," I said, gently leading her towards the park. I had actually hoped that we could discuss everything together, but I should have known that that wasn't really what everyone had in mind. Raith and Lonnie always seemed to bury themselves in their own suspicious matters, whatever they were.

I looked around, seeing a few kids scattered here and there, a few young couples and some old ones. This place had a read family kind of setting, so different from what we'd grown up in.

I stayed silent as we walked, Serena looking around aimlessly. She didn't appear to be in the mood to talk to me. In about an hour, we'd be meeting the others again, and maybe then we would find answers. Would the Granolith be able to help her? And would saving Serena harm Liz?

What if they decided not to help us?

*Max*

Liz doesn't say anything when I agree to help her. She just looks at me with an intense emotion that I can't quite identify. Maybe she's feeling as mixed up about all this as I am.

I shift in my seat so I'm facing her a bit more and she does the same. I take a slow deep breath, trying to relax and to brace myself at the same time. I did sense another person in the flash before, the one with Liz and Kyle in bed. That must have been him ... the time traveler. Or should I say me? It's a bit confusing.

I make an effort and turn up the edges of my mouth in the semblance of a smile, trying to re-assure her. We've done this before. Most recently less than an hour ago, but that was different. She was hurt and I acted quickly, I had no choice, no time to hesitate. Now, I do...

"Okay, let's do this," I say, unneccessarily. I put my hands on either side of her face and look into her eyes. She looks back at me, unblinking. I try to focus, to find that connection and suddenly -- it's there. I'm gliding through flashes of her memories again.

I see Liz, wearing a length of lace over her head, like a wedding veil. She's smiling and feels so happy. Then a flash of light outside her window turns that to fear. Next, I see his face -- long hair and stubble on his chin, but it does look like me.

"I need you to help me fall out of love with you."

"And it turned out Tess was critical to our survival. The four of us - Michael, Isabel, Tess, and I...we made a complete unit. We all had different gifts, and with one of us missing, we weren't as strong, and everything fell apart. "

"Oh, we had a great wedding. You called Maria, Michael, Isabel, and Alex, and had them meet us halfway. We spent the whole night singing and dancing in some dive outside Phoenix, and at the end of the night, "I Shall Believe" came on the radio."

You're supposed to be breaking up with him, not kissing him.

You have to find a way. All of our lives depend on it.

I blink and lean back, my hands falling from Liz's face. "Married?" I ask, barely breathing. "We -- got married?"

~Rath~

Ava turns to get us some food while Zan leads Serena over to the park. I shake my head. I swear, those two baby her so much, it's quite sickening. But then again...as long as her brain is screwed up, I'm allowed to be who I was before she came along...Zan's Second.

I look around and see a small section of trees and bushes nearby, the opposite direction Zan was going. Imagine...trees here in the desert. Getting an idea, I take Lonnie's hand and pull her toward the small patch of what I consider a forest.

As soon as we are out of sight, I push Lonnie against a tree and attack her lips, my body pressing against hers. Since seeing Michael's little human girl, I can't seem to get her out of my head. Her pouty lips and spunkiness...yeah, she'd be a damn hot one in bed.

I shift my hips making my arousal known to Lonnie but my mind is not on her. They shift to Ava's dupe. She was a fiesty one too. Oh, to take them both...I sigh as Lonnie attacks my mouth with the same enthusiastic manner. I have to wonder if Lonnie would help me get those two...often back in New York we'd hop from club to club, searching for some fun. Humans, either male or female, we didn't care, to enhance our power trips. I can't help but fanisize about the fun we'd have with another hybrid and human.

"I have a feeling we may have a lot of fun here." I mumble against her lips.

~Kyle~

“Damn...oh for the love of. Ouch!” I raise my head up only to smack it off the hood of my car. I hadn’t gotten a block from the Crashdown when the engin just died on me. “Sweet merciful Buddha.”

I grab my cell phone from it’s place on the dash board. I see that it’s running low on n batteries I quickly dial Maria’s cell. “Please pick up. Please pick up.”

I glance around a truck passed by but other then that I seen no one. Creepy I think to my self. Where is everybody?

Ava

Lonnie and Rath take off in one direction and Serena and Zan in another. I start down the road to pick up the food when I hear someone talking. I look around the corner and notice that Kyle boy standing beside a broke down truck. Now every alien cell in my body is saying to just keep walking, but…

I walk up behind him. “Hey, need some help?” I ask.
