Title: Stained

Author: cfitch53@hotmail.com

Disclaimer: I don’t own anything Roswell.

Pairings: Alec/Liz with some other conventional couples

Category: Cross Over With Dark Angel

Rating: Teen-Mature

Summary: Liz has had enough with the pod squad and all the problems that go with it. When she runs away from the alien abyss another kasm awaits her. During her journey to find herself it’s a battle between the wits, the super-human and the groups.

Author's Note: Please give feedback! The transgenic Max will be spelled as Maxx so there won’t be any confusion. I’ll include some author’s notes in the postings if I feel they’re necessary also.

Chapter One: Who am I?

I know what people that have multiple personality disorder are called. Crazy. I mean, how can anyone really think that they’re two different people, right? They’re insane, certifiable and that’s exactly why the maker of Prozac is sipping margaritas with his lady friend on a deserted island in the Bahamas staring at her inflatable breasts. And don’t get me started on that Zoloft bitch. Okay, I don’t know that for sure, I’ll stop my rants. But you get the point, right?

My name is Elizabeth Anne Parker. I’m the daughter of Jeff and Nancy Parker. Jeff’s brother’s wife had me when money was really tight, so I went to live with them. I’m a star athlete and perfect student. I’ve never done anything to earn my parents distrust and I’m in every extra curricular activity I can possibly be in. I’m the loyal friend, the trustworthy listener and the go-to girl. If you need something, I’m there for you.

This girl is a fraud. To begin with, Jeff and Nancy aren’t my parents. Jeff does have a brother, but he doesn’t have a wife, if you know what I mean. I already learned everything I’m being taught so I slack off all the time. I lie constantly. I hate all extra curricular activities but I do them because I get bored otherwise. I am trustworthy, dependable and loyal. However, I hate listening to friend’s stupid insignificant problems. I mean not getting a date for Friday night hardly compares to being tortured on your fifth birthday by some sadistic commanding officer.

Now I’ve confused you, right?

My name is Jondy and my designation is 497. I’m the smallest, youngest, but most deadly in my group. I was the co commanding officer with my brother Zack. I was an experimental fetus. I of course have the best of the best as far as genes go but they added more feline DNA to my cocktail and added a dash of K-Nine. I’m faster, stronger and I was designed with a slightly higher brain function then the others in my group. It’s all stuff in you see in the X6’s and X7’s only less advanced. I’m ruthless and above all dangerous. I even managed to scare Lydecker on a daily basis. My fearlessness is only bested by my animal intuition and I go for the kill, not the injury.

That’s me. A transgenic killing machine. Surprised?

I escaped a long time ago from that place and that life. It seems like no matter how far I run from Jondy, Lydecker and the X5 designation it’s always two steps behind me. I feel like I need to choose. Safe little Liz Parker, or Jondy the transgenic?

But maybe this isn't a choice I even get to make.

Dreamer AZ04, aussietrueblue: WOW!!! Feedback already!!! Thank you so much!!

Chapter Two: The Blame Game

Liz walked up to Michael’s apartment. She was so glad she was going to hang out with her friends. She needed them so much. It had been two days since Alex’s funeral and she was still feeling lost. Alex showed her the real world and now he was gone.

When she opened the door everyone was standing around waiting for her. And the looks on their faces wasn’t a good one.

“What’s this all about?” Liz asked looking around at her friends.

“They want to call Alex’s death a suicide,” Isabel said angrily.

“WHAT? Alex would NEVER do that!” Liz shouted.

“We know. He was killed Liz,” Michael spat out.

“Liz, we think it was a target on you. You were supposed to be riding with him. And you told me that you got information a transgenic killing people from one of your brothers. And we all know that the government has been hanging around. It makes sense, makes perfect sense!” Isabel said.

“What?” she asked surprised. “You’re blaming his death on me?”

“Who else Liz? It wasn’t suicide, it was murder,” Maria said and stifled back a sob.

“We think… We think it would be best if… If you left us alone for awhile,” Kyle whispered his eyes downcast.

“What if what went on with Ben is going to happen to you too? Or what if… What if it already did?” Tess asked. Everyone could hear the accusation in her voice. Liz’s jaw dropped. How could they even think that?

“Are you serious? Maria?” Liz asked looking at her best friend. Her bright green eyes were filled with tears but she nodded too.

Liz felt herself breakdown. She was losing everything, everything that she loved. But she wouldn’t let them see it. Lesson number 08-965-1934: Never let your enemy see emotional weakness. It can compromise your hold on the mission and cause failure.

“I can see your point,” she said calmly. “Who knows? It might have been me. Because we transgenics are so dangerous and unbalanced. I mean we’re not human right? Oh wait, either are you,” she said looking at the aliens.

“At least our powers are human. We’re just advanced,” Tess said.

“That’s true, I do have animal DNA. I might go crazy like Ben did and go on a killing spree. Or maybe I’ll just go insane,” she said. “Or like Tess said, maybe I already have,” Liz said snidely.

“Liz, don’t be like this,” Max begged.

“Like what?” Liz asked. “Are you guys scared of me?”

“We’re scared of the problems you can bring,” Isabel said. “Please understand that it’s not you,” she said pleadingly.

“I understand. I mean I ran when the government came after you guys ‘cause I could have been put back in Manticore and be killed. And when you saved Max from the White Room and Pierce I just stayed at home. And I completely deserted you when we were running away from evil aliens. And God Maria, do you remember when I let you eat that bullet because I was too scared of being found out?” she asked. “Don’t worry, I completely understand,” she said sarcastically.

“Look, giving us a guilt trip isn’t going to change the fact that you are a danger,” Michael said.

“And how many times have we almost been killed because of your alien bull shit Michael? You’re so quick to point the finger of blame at me you never even considered the fact that it could have been an alien doing the killing,” Liz said and smirked when she saw that thought register. “Think about that before you accuse me of killing Alex,” she spat out and went to leave the apartment.

“Liz! Wait!” Maria shouted and Liz sighed in relief. She still had one friend that would stick by her no matter what. “I still love you. It’s just… You’re a liability we can’t make right now. We still care so much about you,” Maria said coming up to her. She grabbed Liz’s shoulder and tried to bring her into a hug when she was roughly shoved back into Michael.

“Next time you need a friend after you and Michael get in a fight, or you and your Mom get into it, or you can’t find the right shoes to go with your fucking dress don’t call me,” she said disgusted. She turned around and went to walk through the door again when a strong hand grabbed her arm.

“Liz… You need to be careful now too,” Max said. “If you need our help, call me,” he added.

“If you need my help, don’t,” she said coldly and she finally got out of the apartment. As soon as the door closed she let the sobs take over her body.

*Fine Jondy, you win,* Liz thought as she mounted her motorcycle.

(Author's Note: I hope this chapter was OK, I don't really like it that much, but I wanted to get this story started off quickly.)

Chapter Three: This Is Me Now

Liz opened up her closet and stared at her cloths. For once, she wasn’t going to play the part of sweet innocent Liz Parker. She might have been naïve before, but not anymore.

She was who she was now without apology or exceptions. She pulled out super-low rise grey pants. She remembered buying them with Maria, Isabel and Tess.

*Guess I won’t be invited on the next little shopping trip,* she thought sadly.

They were comfortable and allowed her to move though. They also made her butt look fantastic which was the big selling point at the time of purchase. She then grabbed a skin tight black t-shirt and a denim jacket. She set out the pair of boots she bought for the crash festival, threw away her boring brown make up and only kept the black and grey shadows she bought for prom and then stared at her long brown hair. She never did anything with it, just let it grow. Before she realized what she was doing she was hacking away at it. She left the length the same but cut choppy layers.

*Not too horrible,” she thought. It brought out the angles in her face and made her look older. There was still something missing to her new look though.

The color. The color had to go.

The trip to Elva’s Beauty Salon was short. Liz picked the lock grabbed a bottle of black hair dye and slid out completely unnoticed. When she got home she went into the bathroom and ten minutes later she looked at her reflection. She didn’t look unnatural. She actually looked good with black hair, just different. She didn’t look quite so safe and unassuming anymore.

She looked a little more like the kick ass girl who could break your neck with her pinky and forefinger she was.

Liz looked over at the clock and grimaced. If she didn’t hurry she was going to be late for school. Even Jondy was punctual at Manticore. Of course if you were late to field med or combat training you wouldn’t just get detention.

After drying and straightening her hair, doing her make-up and changing into the very un-Liz like cloths she grabbed her back pack and slid on a pair of large black sunglasses.

Liz usually got a ride from Maria but since that obviously wasn’t going to be an option Liz drove to school. The reaction to her 350 Ninja roaring into the school parking lot was laughably dramatic. People stopped and stared, jaws were dropped and gasps were heard.

“Get a life,” she muttered to the student body in general as she parked it. She walked into the school with dozens of eyes following her but didn’t acknowledge any of them.

“Is that Liz?” she could hear Michael’s shocked voice demand as she walked by. She almost smiled, almost. For some reason her former friends shock justified her change. Feeling vindicated she cast a side glance towards them and gave the patented transgenic smirk. Every transgenic had it.

The ‘The-world-can’t-hurt-me-and-you-can’t-touch-me” smirk.

Liz went to her locker and grabbed some of her books she needed for first period. She had Isabel, Maria and Kyle in this class.

*Let the games begin,* she thought cynically.

Liz sat down and got out her notes as usual. Isabel sat behind her, Kyle sat to her right and Maria sat to her left. This was going to be a LONG English class.

“So what time did you do everything with your hair?” Isabel asked. “What?” she demanded after receiving a glare from Liz.

You know the one, the ‘What the hell do you think you’re doing?!’ look. Another transgenic great.

“We didn’t say we could still talk to you in class,” Maria said. “We still want to be your friends,” she added.

“So wait, I’m confused. Maybe you could type up the rules and everything so I know the guidelines. Wouldn’t want to get you guys killed or anything,” Liz said rolling her eyes.

“So when DID you decide to change your hair?” Isabel asked after an awkward moment of silence.

“About an hour after you decided that I was the reason my best friend’s dead,” she said simply and the others had the grace to look away. “Let’s keep this simple guys. From now on you don’t talk to me, I won’t talk to you,” she stated.

The day went by fast. She’d gotten compliments and stares all day long. It was annoying but a little flattering. In every class and all through lunch the Pod Squad would steal looks at her. Even Tess did a few times. Liz was ready to go over and show them exactly how dangerous she is. Why couldn’t they just leave her alone?

“Hey Mr. Saligman?” Liz asked going up to his desk. Her biology class was starting soon and she needed to talk to her teacher as soon as possible.

“Wow, you went through quite the transformation last night,” he exclaimed.

“You have no idea. We have an uneven amount of students without Alex now in class. I just wanted to volunteer to be the one without a partner, it makes the most sense, I probably have the highest grade,” she said.

“Thank you, that’s very considerate! We can always depend on you to put out fires, can’t we Liz?” he asked and she nodded sitting in the back of the classroom where Maria and Alex used to sit.

“You don’t have to switch, you and Max have been partners since eighth grade general science,” Maria said as she approached.

“I told you not to speak to me anymore,” she said coldly and sat down.

Maria’s face instantly registered shock. It just made Liz angrier. How dare she be mad when Liz simply said what was on her mind! She wasn’t the one who was being shunned because of her past.

“Don’t go all soft on me now Maria. This is what you wanted remember? You threw away our friendship, not me, so just leave me the fuck alone,” she said and didn’t even glance up as the blonde left the classroom quickly crying with Max following on her heels.

Chapter Four: Goodbyes

Two weeks later…

“Liz, can we talk?” Max asked timidly in the hallway. They hadn’t spoken since that night at Michael’s. She was distant with everyone. He overheard her mom complaining about it to his mom. She just seemed to be off in her own little world. It was like her entire personality changed in a night.

“You can talk. I might not be listening though,” she smirked.

“We’ve been worried about you. The way you’re acting isn’t you Liz. I know you’ve been through a lot, but you shouldn’t be changing so dramatically. It’s not healthy,” he said, his forehead creased with worry.

“Look Max, when I left Michael’s apartment that night I made a decision. I said good-bye to my cover and hello again Jondy. I could have been happy living that lie. Up until then it was a competition between which one was more important. After that I wasn’t Little Lizzy anymore,” Liz said shutting her locker door and turned around to face him completely.

“Liz we were-”

“Please don’t try to justify your actions. You abandoned me. You ran away after I’ve risked my life for you countless times,” she said.

“You’re being reckless. Someone might find out about you and then where would you be?” Max asked.

“Back at Manticore I guess or dead maybe,” Liz said and his eyes widened just a little bit. “Don’t worry about Max, because I sure as hell don’t worry about you anymore,” she continued and saw a flash of hurt in his eyes.

Of course it was a lie. She still cared Max, Maria, Kyle, Michael, Isabel… Hell she even cared about what happened to Tess still. But just because she felt it didn’t mean she liked it. And it REALLY didn’t mean they had to know.

“Liz congratulations!” a councelour said walking up to her interrupting them. “You passed all of your exit exams.”

“Good,” Liz said. She already knew she was going to pass. She could have passed those tests when she was eight years old.

“As of seven minutes ago you are now a high school graduate. So the teachers and I were curious, what are you going to do now?” she asked perkily.

“I’m going to wait till next fall to attend college. Right now, I’m just going to live life,” she said mysteriously.

“Wow that’s exciting!” she said slightly put off. “I just wanted to give you the good news. We’ll miss you here! Don’t be a stranger!” she added before walking away.

“Well see you around,” Liz said to Max.

“Wait! You graduated from high school?” Max asked catching up with her retreating form. “Why? What are you going to be doing now?” he demanded.

“Whatever the hell I want to do,” she stated flippantly.

“You’re being really immature here. I’m trying to be the bigger person-“

“Oh my God Max! Just leave me alone and let me live my own life,” she interrupted.

“You can’t leave! I won’t let you,” he said slightly desperate. There were just too many reasons for her to stay. She was a part of the I-Know-An-Alien-Club. The members stayed in Roswell. Besides, what if whoever killed Alex was going to go after her too? She needed to stay in town so he could keep an eye on her.

“I’m leaving Roswell tonight,” she said. “If you’re smart you’ll forget about me,” she said and started walking towards her motorcycle.

She knew that in Roswell she would always be Liz Parker. If she was going to let go, she had to really let go. So now she was on her way to Seattle. Her cousin Calvin said she could crash there. Maybe she could breath there.

“Liz, this isn’t just about you! Your actions affect the group. We all have to make this decision,” Max said sounding slightly unhinged.

“This is MY life Max. And don’t give me that group bull shit. I’m not even a part of the group anymore,” she said as she mounted her bike.

“I- Liz I love you!” Max said in a final attempt to make her stay.

Liz turned on her bike and stared ahead for a second.

“Did you hear me Liz? I said that I love you!”

“I once loved you too, I still do a little bit. But really, what does that have to do with anything?” Liz asked turning towards him. She noticed that he was wearing the Antarian necklace they found at Atherton’s house. She wrapped her hand around it and yanked it down breaking the leather cord. “To remember you by,” she explained and then sped away.

Leaving her old friends and her family hurt. But just because it hurt, didn’t mean it didn’t feel right.

Chapter Five: Shut Up Already

Liz sat down at the counter for her last meal in Roswell for awhile. Saturn Rings, a Blood of Alien Smoothie and a Galaxy Sub never tasted better. Her mom was upstairs crying about her baby girl growing up too fast and her dad was in back working the grill trying to take his mind off his daughter’s departure. Parents.

Kyle walked in the door and sat down next to her and ordered a piece of pie and a strawberry milk shake. He didn’t say anything till she was sipping the last of her drink down.

“So I’m scum,” he stated without preamble.

Liz actually smiled at that. Out of all of them for some reason Kyle had always looked the guiltiest. And during the entire conversation at Michael’s he kept on looking like he wanted to say something. He’d respected her wishes enough to stay away. Out of all of them Kyle was definitely her favorite right about now. That wasn’t saying much, but it was something.

“I just wanted to apologize. I knew that freezing you out was wrong and I know that the chances that his death is because of you is like zilch to none. I don’t know why I did what I did. I’ve never really gone with the pack Liz, but that night I did. I didn’t stand up for you when I should have. The more they talked about why it could only be you, the more reasons Max, Maria and Isabel came up with the more it became a possibility. I just wanted to say… sorry. I know that’s corn-ball and it doesn’t even begin to make up for treating you like shit, but there it is. I’m sorry for being scum,” he rambled without looking at her.

“Good,” Liz said and saw his shoulders slump a little bit. “Maria’s apologized a million times to me,” she sighed and he turned towards her. She didn’t sound like she was about ready to kick his ass so he took that as a good sign.

“Really? Did you forgive her?”

“Well… They were like those apologies that have the words I’m Sorry in it but don’t really mean it. Like, “I’m sorry you feel like we attacked you” and “I’m sorry you’re being so unreasonable.””

“Oh.”

“So yeah, no, I haven’t forgiven her because she hasn’t actually said it yet. Besides Michael you are the one I thought I needed that from the least. If the others actually stop acting like bitches long enough to geninually feel bad about being ass holes then will you tell them I forgive them?” she asked.

“Of course.”

“And I can trust you not to spill the beans about some things right?” she asked and he nodded. She grabbed a napkin and scribbled down her new cell phone number, address and new e-mail. “Keep it touch, but don’t share the info.”

“Can do,” he said feeling lighter then he had in weeks. “I’m gonna miss you,” he admitted.

“Yeah, yeah. If you’re ever in Seattle and need a place to crash, call me.” Liz pulled Kyle into a warm hug when they were abruptly pulled apart.

“What the hell is this? You can’t even stand to be around me, but you’re here with Kyle- a guy you barely even talk to anymore- acting chummy?” Maria demanded. The two friends turned and could practically see the hurt and anger roll off of her in waves.

“Do you still think that by just being here I killed Alex?” Liz demanded in a hushed tone. Kyle noticed the change in demeaner immediately. All her muscles tensed as if she was ready to pounce and her eyes narrowed in anticipation of a fight.

*Felines,* he thought amusedly.

“Come on Liz. You know it makes sense!” Maria said exhasterbated.

“WAKE UP MARIA! We have been dealing with their bull crap for the last two years! The last time any of my shit happened was over a year and a half ago in LOS ANGELES. It wasn’t me! Why can’t you see that?!”

“It wasn’t there fault Liz! DEAL WITH IT!” Maria shouted back at her.

“Why-” Liz stopped to take a deep calming breath. “Why is it not a possibility for them but is for me?” she asked trying to keep calm.

“Because there hadn’t been any alien problems in a few months and Ben happened just two weeks ago. What if you guys are all on some twisted biological clock and you’ve all mutated too huh? Maybe Zack of Tinga or Maxx or whoever the hell else is here to mess with you just like Ben messed with the others?” Maria demanded.

“If that were true, I’d be killing too,” Liz said standing toe to toe with the slightly taller blond. “Does that scare you? Think about it, if it wasn’t an anomaly and we’re all changing I’d be insane right this minute. I’d be looking for my very next victim. He killed people of faith right?” she said in a creepy voice that even unnerved Kyle a little bit. Liz lifted the cross necklace Maria had tied around her neck and stared at it. “Exactly how faithful are you?”

“Liz, you aren’t helping the situation,” he told her tiredly.

“Whatever,” Liz shrugged and went back to Angry Liz instead of Creepy, I Collect Your Hair and Toenail Clippings Liz. “You do realize that you’re grasping at straws, right Maria? You just don’t want it to be Michael’s fault so badly that you’re ready to loose a friend over it.”

“Why are you being such a bitch about this?” Maria demanded.

“Because I realized you are a sad pathetic human being and I’m above you.” It might not have been true but she knew it would hurt Maria and right now that’s all she cared about. “Oh, you’re not gonna cry now are you?”

She smirked as Maria’s nostrils flared and saw her hand come up to slap her. Liz caught it easily and pushed Maria away from her into the counter. She hit the other end and knocked a bottle of Tabasco to the ground.

Unfortunately that was the exact moment Michael and Max decided to come through the door.

“Get the hell away from her!” Michael shouted putting himself between her and Maria.

“Gladly,” Liz said and turned around to Kyle. “Thanks for what you said before. Maybe I’ll see you around one day?” she asked and he nodded with a small smile.

“Wait, Liz, there’s something we wanted to talk to you about,” Max said halting her movement. “It’s important you we talk before you left.”

“One minute,” Liz said glancing at her watch.

“You’ve changed a lot lately. Tess is concerned that if you leave you might tell someone about us. Like you said earlier today. I don’t know you and that means I can’t trust you. She suggested a mind warp and I think it’s probably a good idea.”

Kyle stared at him dumb founded. How could he even think that Liz would betray him like that?

“You tell her that if she so much as tries to go poking around through my head I’ll break her like a Barbie Doll. I have a higher mind too, I’ll know if she tries anything and I won’t hesitate to take action,” Liz said.

Max, Michael and Maria’s jaws dropped. That was the clincher for them. She just threatened the life of another group member. It had to be a transgenic doing the killing if it wasn’t Liz herself.

“Well bye bitches,” Liz said smirking. “Talk to you when I talk to you Kyle,” she added and walked out the door.

The others just watched as she peeled out of the street on her motorcycle cutting off Isabel and Tess as they pulled up. One hand was gracefully raised in the air, a single finger waving goodbye at them as the dust trailed after her squealing tires.

 WOW!! Thanks again for all the feedback! I appreciate it a TON. Enjoy the next part and keep the f/b coming. :D This is a really short chapter but it's follow up is MUCH longer.

Chapter Six: New Beginnings

(Author’s Note: The break has already happened BUT (and this is huge so listen up :!: :!: ) Manticore has re-captured over ½ and shipped them off to another location. The only anomalies that managed to escape are a couple trench diggers, a few of the just screwed up looking guys, Mole and Joshua.)

Being a transgenic Liz was rarely scared of anything. When you were marching 60 clicks through land mines, dodging bullets and infiltrating a communist government you got scared. Being in a new city where you didn’t know anyone and didn’t know where you were going didn’t scare her at all.

She had gotten held up at a sector point when she was going through Oregon so she was a few hours late. She didn’t know where Sketchy was for sure but if she knew her cousin he was probably at a bar or a strip club. And if was the latter he’d be at the bar later that night. So she rode to the only place she ever heard him talk about, Crash, and parked her motorcycle in an out of the way alcove. No use risking her baby to thugs and thieves.

She walked into the bar and immediately went to the bar. “Hey, can I get two pitchers and a couple shots of Jose?” Liz called and the bartender smiled.

“Sure thing doll face,” he told her and got her, her drinks. “I haven’t seen you here before. You knew in town or just new to this bar?”

“Town,” Liz answered and threw some cash down on the grimy counter. “Well it’s nice to meet you-”

“We didn’t actually meet. My name’s Eric,” he told her.

“Jondy,” Liz told him. “Do you know if Sketchy’s here?”

“He’s in the back playing pool,” Eric told her. “Hey Jondy, don’t be a stranger!”

“Whatever,” she said noncommitedly as she walked towards the back.

Her cousin and a few other people were stationed at a table near the tables. She sighed in contentment. She was finally starting over.

*

“So when’s your cousin supposed to be in town?” Alec asked.

He and Biggs were rooming with Sketchy and adding another person caused some problems. For one, he had to sleep out on the couch now. The sooner the girl left, the sooner he could get his room back.

“She called about an hour ago and told me she was just getting into Seattle. So any minute now,” Sketchy said excitedly.

“Look at you,” Original Cindy grinned. “You’re as excited as a little boy on Christmas morning.”

“J-J’s the best! She’s pretty much the coolest girl you’ll ever meet. She’s totally laid back until you piss her off or mess with one of her friends. Then she’ll kick your ass! She’s the one person you can depend on for everything. She’s so smart too—”

“I thought you said her name was Liz?” Biggs interrupted.

“Oh yeah, she lived with a really abusive family until she ran away when she was eight,” he said frowning slightly. He was one of the few that knew that Jeff’s brother never really had a little girl. When Jeff and Nancy realized that they made a new cover story.

“J-J’s just a nickname from then. Man! You guys are going to love her. I’ve just sorry Maxx isn’t here to meet her. She’s so freaking independent too, ever since she was like ten. With her weird things just happen it's awesome. Anything's possible with her,” he continued.

“You make me sound like a saint!” Liz laughed from behind them. Liz put down the beer and gave her cousin a huge hug as he spun her around in a circle.

“You look good! I like the new hair! How was the trip?” he asked her.

“Long, but totally worth it,” she said and sat down in between Sketchy and the only other girl here.

“Guys this is J-J. J-J this is Alec, Biggs and Original Cindy, or OC,” Sketchy introduced.

“Nice to meet you,” Liz said and poured herself a drink.

"So how's Roswell doing?" Sketchy asked. "Meet any aliens?"

"Tons of, they kept on giving my trouble though so I had to leave," Liz said truthfully. "That damn anal probe," she added. Biggs choked on the drink he was trying to swallow and Alec gave her a grin.

"Thanks for the beer," OC told her.

Liz brought a full glass to her lips and finished over half of it before setting down the glass.

“Damn, you better pace yourself,” she laughed.

“But what would be the fun in that?" she asked.

"Who wants to play shots?" Sketchy called and got a few returns.

And as Liz sat around drinking with her cousin, new roommates and strangers she felt at peace for the first time in months.

Chapter Seven: A Plan

Alec poured himself a bowl of cereal and turned on the television. He had gotten home around 4 in the morning. Thank God he didn’t have to sleep. He and Jondy went dancing after they brought a passed out Sketchy home and Biggs went out with a girl he met at Crash.

Just thinking about the night before made him itch for the feel of Jondy’s skin. They’d gotten so close last night but every time he went to kiss her she pulled away. She had no problem sweating all over him on the dance floor but obviously swapping saliva was taboo.

“You’re up early,” Alec commented as Liz exited his old bedroom in a pair of boy cut underwear and a wife beater. He was surprised to hear the low growl that came out of his throat involuntarily.

“I’m still on an adrenaline high,” she said sitting down next to him on the couch. “I can’t believe I actually danced on the bar. God, I wasn’t even drunk,” she added.

“The way you were drinking last night I didn’t think I’d see you till late this evening,” he admitted. “And, for the record, you looked good on the bar.”

“Thanks. Did I embarrass you?” Liz asked. She couldn’t deny that Alec was hot. But she wasn’t looking for that. She needed to concentrate on herself. There were a few close calls when she was grinding with him though.

“No way. If a hot girl pulls you on the bar to sexually molest you and you’re not gay, it’s just a very good night,” Alec smirked. “You could make a lot of money if you did it at Glory,” he told her appreciatively.

Glory was the strip club that the boys all frequented. When she was at Renegade (the dance hall) she was approached by the manager. He offered her a job there as a Go-Go dancer. She said she’d call them back but doubted if she’d take the job. She wanted something in the day.

“I dance for fun,” she laughed.

“It really is early right now. Why don’t you try and get some sleep?” he asked checking the clock. They’d gotten back home two hours ago and she was already up.

“Not tired. Oh my God, turn it up! I love Jimmy Nuetron,” Liz said as the cartoon came on the television.

For some reason Liz felt comfortable with Alec. There was something familiar by the way he moved, his eyes… She just felt like she could be herself completely with him and not have him hate her for it. She couldn’t decide if that was a good thing or not.

“You’re such a dork,” he laughed but pressed the volume button anyways. “ So what are your plans for the day?”

“Hmm… I don’t know. Sketchy’s going to be with Natalie all weekend. They’re going up to this little island. So I’m gonna be flying solo for awhile.”

“I’ll hang out with you,” Alec volunteered surprising himself. He didn’t usually go out of his way to make friends.

“Well… what are we going to do?”

“We’re going to see the real Seattle J-J.”

“You can call me Jondy,” Liz said finding it weird to hear ‘J-J’ coming out of Alec’s mouth. Maybe because it made her feel like one of the guys. She didn’t want to be one of the boys when it came to Alec.

“It’s my real name. Sketchy just likes to call me J-J,” she explained.

*Where have I heard that name before?* Alec asked himself but dismissed it when he couldn't think of where.

“Okay. Well get dressed! The real Seattle is awake already!” he said standing up. “In fact we’re behind schedule.”

“Alright, I’ll be ready in twenty minutes,” Liz said and stood back up. She walked away into the bathroom and smiled.

This was the beginning of something. She didn’t know what it was yet, but it was definitely something.

Chapter Eight: Smart Alec

“So what are we doing here?” Liz asked standing on top of the Space Needle. “Not that I really mind the view, but once sunset happened I thought we’d be going off to the club or something,” she admitted.

“Every city has those places. But this is the only place that has a space needle,” Alec sighed sitting down. “Are you scared of heights or anything?”

“Not really,” Liz said walking down towards the edge.

“WAIT!” Alec called standing up quickly. “That drops off suddenly, it was broken in a bombing and it’s slick. It was raining earlier,” he said and held out his hand to her. She noticed that he was breathing slightly erratic. Nervous.

Liz laughed and walked towards him. “What?” he asked as she continued to giggle.

“You were worried I was going to fall,” she said and broke out into hysterics. She didn’t know why it was so funny to her. The fact that she could take a nose dive off the thing and end up landing on her feet probably had something to do with it. Got to love that feline DNA in her cocktail.

“You’re laughing at the fact that I don’t want to scrape you off the side walk with a spatula?” he asked.

“I wouldn’t fall,” Liz said with an eye roll. She liked that he cared, but she didn’t need another guy with a hero complex hanging on her. She was more then capable of taking care of herself.

“Tell me about yourself,” he said looking up at the stars.

“I live a boring life,” she lied.

“Sketchy told me that you grew up in an abusive family,” he said scooting closer to her. Maybe that was why she was so cautious around him, around everyone.

“Yeah. My uh… dad never really accepted failure,” she said looking down at the people. “You know the feeling you get when you walk up to people who were just talking about you? It’s beyond awkward and no one really knows what to say?” she asked and he nodded. “After I got out of that situation that was how I felt for two years,” she sighed.

“I know. Or walking around seeing everyone know something you don’t. Like everyone in the world is in on this secret but you,” Alec said and she nodded.

“I look down on them, I see the masses, and I think everyone’s got problems. Maybe they aren’t like mine, maybe they’re better or worse, but EVERYONE’S got problems, ya know? It makes me feel normal,” Liz said.

“You don’t feel normal regularly?” he asked curiously.

“No. But maybe that’s how everyone feels,” she sighed and the duo just sat there staring at the ant sized people below them and the glittering stars above them. When Liz realized that her hand had suddenly wrapped around his she stood up abruptly.

“Well… I say we go out to Crash and get wasted,” she announced.

“That’s the best suggestion I’ve ever heard,” he said grinning.

He really liked just hanging out with her. They had a hot dog from every vendor in sector one and two, had a cup of coffee that tasted like crap and just walked around China town for a long time. It was the best day he’d had since the break out.

There’s Sketchy, Biggs and Herbal who all thought of him as a player and master at his own games. Then there was Normal who thought of him as God. Then there was Maxx, Original Cindy and Logan who thought that he was free-spirited and a smart ass but ultimately immature and annoying. With Liz it was like he could be who he wanted to be around her. It was a rare feeling and he didn’t want to loose it.

Chapter Nine: Phone Calls

Author's Note: The next to chapters are short but enjoy.

“What the hell are you two doing?” Alec asked as he walked into the apartment. Biggs and Liz were sitting across from each other on the kitchen counter with spoons on their noses bouncing a small rubber ball between them.

“Don’t break our concentration!” Liz shouted.

“How long have you been doing this?”

“Like two hours, seventeen minutes and 37 seconds,” Liz said looking at the timer on the fridge. “That’s a slight approximate because the low battery will screw up the time configuration slightly.”

“She was doing it by herself against a wall. Since I got back from work early I decided to play with her,” Biggs said as the phone started ringing.

Liz giggled. “Ewe, that sounded completely perverse.”

“Guys, it says that we’ve missed five calls,” Alec said looking at the machine. “You’ve been here all day! How could we miss that many calls?”

“If one of us got down from the counter, to grab the phone on the couch they’d loose,” Liz explained. “But now that you’re here you can get it!”

“Oh my God,” Alec muttered. “Hello? … Who’s Liz—Oh! You mean Jondy! ... Who’s this? … Oh yeah? … Alec, her roommate. … I’ll get her,” he said walking towards them.

“Jondy, some guy named Kyle’s on the phone for you,” Alec said.

“Thanks,” Liz smiled and grabbed the phone. “Kyle? Hey guess what I’m doing right now? It involves a bouncy ball.”

“Are you playing that Spoon-cey ball game thing again?” Kyle asked.

“It teaches coordination and enhances your reflexes,” she defended. “And I didn’t come up with the name. Alex did in the seventh grade.”

”I remember Alex, Maria and I failed a midterm ninth grade year because of that game,” he said. “That game is the root of all evil. But that’s not why I called. What have you been doing lately?”

“I got a job at the bar I told you about three nights a week making drinks and then in the mornings I work at an auto repair shop.”

“That’s cool. Who was that guy that answered the phone? I thought you were staying with your cousin Calvin.”

“Oh, I am. It’s just that he’s always with his girlfriend and at her place so I stay with his two roommates a lot,” Liz said catching the small rubber ball.

“They alright guys?” Kyle asked slightly concerned. So what if she could break them in ways never before experienced by man? She was still his ex-girlfriend and one of his favorite gal pals. That meant that he had to protect her.

“Yeah, they’re good guys. So… how is everyone?” she asked after a second.

“It’s been hard... We had a meeting earlier today. They're convinced that you were the one to kill Alex or one of your siblings because you threatened Tess. They want to find you and then have Tess and ISabel go through your brain and fix whatever went wrong in you," he admitted.

"God. I just... What the hell do they want from me?" she asked throwing the ball towards Biggs. "I mean I didn't do anything to deserve their mistrust," she said with a sigh.

"I know. I think they know it's them, that it was an alien that killed him ya know? But since they can't accept that they just blamed it on you. Once they come to their sences they'll be sorry," Kyle told her.

"Yeah. I just... I was really happy there, you know? I miss how it was before Tess came to town," she said thoughtfully. Behind her Biggs and Alec exchanged looks.

"Yeah, things were a lot simpler then."

"I just wish he hadn't been in the diner that day, ya know what I mean? Then you, Maria and ... and Alex would still have these normal lives and you wouldn't have to deal with their shit..."

"Don't wish that!" Kyle said.

"If it weren't for me Alex still would be alive. I know it was them- that it was Czeck! I know it with every fiber of my being, and because I was the one who first brought him into this it's my fault!" she said and threw the ball a little again. She had no idea the for the last minute she'd been throwing it as hard as she could. Biggs' hand was throbbing.

"Liz, it's not. You have to stop thinking that way! You're gonna kill yourself if you don't!"

"Look I got to go, but I'll call you tommorrow night, around seven. Bye Kyle."

"By, what is it now? Jondy?"

"Yeah," Liz laughed and hung up. "Hey, do you guys want to go do something stupid?" she asked her roommies.

"... Sure," ALec shrugged.

"Good, I'm going to grab my jacket and bag and I'll be out," she said setting the ball down and going into her room.

"Damn that hurt worse then when 'Deck broke it for mouthing off," he said softly staring at the palm of his hand. "It shouldn't have hurt that bad. She shouldn't be that strong," he added.

"What are you saying?" Alec asked.

"That she's either a freakishly strong country bumpkin or she's something different," Biggs said.

"You ready?" Liz asked coming out of her bedroom.

Chapter Ten: Something Stupid

Alec pushed Liz on the swings as they tried to think of something else to do. They went to the roller rink, the arcade and a street fair already. They had picked up Original Cindy, Herbal, Sketchy and Natalie and were now just hanging around in the park.

“So did I meet Kyle?” Sketchy asked. “Wait… that guy before your sophomore year that was always hanging around you? The jock? You dated him didn’t you?” he asked laughing. “That guy was such a tool.”

“He’s one of my best friends so shut your face,” Liz sing-songed as she was gently pushed by Alec.

“But you dated him?” Original Cindy asked laughing.

“Sure did. For about five months. He was a typical jock at the time though. Not a crowd I usually matriculated with,” Liz said. “I usually hung out with the preppies or the brains.”

“So then how’d you get with him?” Alec asked pushing her higher on the swings.

“Me and a bunch of my friends went to a party. It was love at first sight. When I saw him standing over Pam Troy’s balcony puking up a bottle of Tequiela in her rose bush my heart leapt, then he turned towards me, slurred something that I think was, “You’re the brain right?” and passed out on top of me, a thin trail of puke running out of his mouth on cashmere sweater. I knew that if a guy could repulse me that fast he had to be special,” Liz said whimsically.

“You’re such a nerd,” Biggs told her. “So you had lot of boyfriends back at Roswell?”

“Enough so I was never bored, well actually… Only three ever in my life,” she said. Alex her freshman year, Kyle her sophomore and then Max the last two years.

“So Liz, and Sketchy you might not want to here this, we saw some pictures and heard some things about you before. You look like Mother Theresa’s child if she could have been with a guy. SO… were you a good girl?” OC asked.

“I went to parties on weekends, hung out late at night, but I was ultimately responcible.”

“No… I mean, were you a GOOD GIRL,” she reiterated suggestively.

“OHHH. No. I mean…” Liz trailed off when she remembered the first time she went into heat.

She and Sean in the Deluca’s basement her freshman year of high school… Alex in her bedroom five months after that incident… Kyle one summer night before 10th grade… After that she was much more careful. When she went into heat she went “camping” alone in the desert. She would take her motorcycle out as far as it could go, gas it up again with an extra tank she brought with her and then just hang out in the desert till she could handle being around testosterone again and then walk the 75 clicks home. She was lucky she did ‘it’ with the guys she did. Right after Sean got sent to Juvenile Hall, Alex did the best friend pinky promise to not tell and Kyle was too much of a gentleman to spread any rumors. She hated that it made her that way, made her out of control. It was a reminder of what she was and he wanted to forget that all so very badly.

“You mean what?” Alec prodded.

“I mean I’m 18, of course I’m going to have… experiences,” she said carefully.

”LALALALALALALALALALALALALALALA!” Skethey yelled covering his ears. “J-J still plays with Barbie doll, she still plays with Barbie dolls, she still plays with Barbie dolls,” he said over and over again with his eyes shut tightly.

“You’re so whipped,” Original Cindy told Alec suddenly after a long comfortable silence. “You’re pushing a grown girl on a swing. She’s perfectly capable of pumping herself up.”

“Maybe he’s whipped like a trained Chihuahua OR maybe he’s a genius. Do you realize that he’s been groping her ass for the last ten minutes, and no one thinks of him as a pervert at all?” Biggs asked.

“A stupid man ignores an opportunity when it’s presented,” Herbal stated and bumped fists with Biggs.

“I don’t know what you guys are talking about,” Alec said as pushed her again. “Although… I’m not complaining.”

“She’s my cousin ass wipe,” Sketchy said breaking apart from Natalie’s lips.

“Need I remind you that Natalie is a cousin to someone too?” Liz asked.

“So talking about living arrangements-“ Natalie said.

“Who was talking about living arrangements?” Alec teased.

“I was, keep up,” Natalie said. “I invited Calvin to move in with me and he said yes. Now we can wait a while longer Jondy if you’d feel more comfortable. Or you could move in with us. Either one is just fine by us,” she assured.

“Well Sketchy’s not there anyways most nights and as much fun as it sounds listening to you get it on all day long I think I’ll just stick it out with Biggs and Alec,” she said.

“YES. I get a room again!” Alec yelled triumphantly.

“Are you sure you don’t mind J-J?” Sketchy asked concerned.

“Oh yeah, it’s totally cool. We were kind of just waiting for her to ask,” she said indicating her roommates.

“Hey, do you guys want to go to Renagade?” Herbal asked. “I feel like dancin’.”

“I’m there,” Liz said jumping off the swing and landing on her feet easily. She linked hands with Alec and the group walked over.

Alec looked at their interlocked fingers. It was a small triumph but it went down as a win in his scorebook none the less.
