I lead the way,kind of ironic because I am feeling dizzy with anticipation and dread...was this stairway so long this morning?!...finally we reach the bottom and the Butler shows us into the Living room.

Before I could answer Michael,the girls presence was announced...
"Aaah there they are...you all look breath-taking"...I looked at Tess and my heart skipped a beat...unconscioulsy I go and stand by her side while I introduce everyone...
"Girls,these three handsome men are my closest friends...the roguishly handsome one is Max,the one who looks like a stonewall is Michael,hahaha!just kidding and the gentleman next to the fireplace is Alexander,but we call him Alex...
May I present my cousins...Lady Isabel Banning,Lady Elizabeth Parker and Lady Tess Harding...of course you all know Maria."

I laughed along with Liz, thinking that my cousins might not be so bad after all. "I suppose we should go," I told them softly. "A polite lady is never late."
They all seemed to straighten up at this, almost as if I was reminding them to be polite. We formed a line, and walked into the dining room as Kyle announced us.

"I'll have some red wine,Kyle,not too much though"...I look each of the men and I notice that Earl Alexander doesn't seem to be as out-going as the other three,yet he excudes quite strenght and confidence...further more I notice that he is the tallest man in the room,easily three inches taller than me...for some reason my heart jumped

Looking around at all the ladies--One was very tall and buzzing over Alex, The other one a fairly dark complexion but still beautiful beyond words--I doubt she is the one for me, and then my eyes go to a petiet blonde haired girl at this both beautiful on the eyes, and knows her place--is which I could say about the others. Not wanting to be rude, I start off a conversation with the small blonde haired girl first. "Lady Tess Harding...Pleased to meet you. I'm Count Maxwell Evans". I bowed and took her hand in mine and gently kissed it.
Jim:
"Amy, darling...don't you think we should make our entrance now?" I asked.
Amy:
"I told you...this isn't about us, it's about them...I promised everyones parents that they would mix and mingle and at the end of there stay...they would be hopefully engaged...that was the plan wasn't it? How is that suppose to work if we are in there...we'll go in and greet them, and then leave saying that we've got something important to go to.
Jim:
"Okay...fine... " I sighed.
Amy:
Sending two servants in front of me with appitizers, "Hello Everyone... Maxwell, Michael, and Alex...It's so great to see you again... " I looked behind me and Jim was quick to follow suit.
Jim:
Shaking the mens hands-- "Please everyone make yourselfs at home, and dinner will be announced shortly--the seating arrangements have already been made. Now if you excuse us... Amy and I have a previous engagment to attend to.
Max:
"I thought you guys were dinning with us?" I asked them curiously.
Amy:
"There's been a slight change of plans, but all of you go ahead--just don't stay up to late..." I told them as I made sure not to glance over at Maria, and took Jims arm and walked out of the room.
Jim:
"Well, that went nice..."
Amy:
I rolled my eyes and walked upstairs.
Jim:
"What.?" I sighed as I followed her.
Max:
Turning my attention back to Tess--"How is your stay so far? Pleasent I only hope." I asked her.

I looked over all the men, taking in their features. The man called Alex was very tall, and seemed captivated by Isabel; Michael had already poured himself a drink and was chatting up Maria. Then my eyes landed on Count Maxwell, and my breathing stopped. Devilishly handsome was a rather tame description for him. He was like something out of the movies; tall and tan, with a well sculpted face, muscular shoulders, and positively beautiful eyes.
I stared at him, debating whether or not to go talk to Mr. Tall, Dark, and Handsome. I had just decided to try and strike up a conversation with him when he walked over to Tess. The same Tess that had Kyle fawning all over her.
"Figures," I said, not allowing myself to feel hurt at the fact everyone had a suitor except me.

I toyed with the idea of approaching Alexander,he seemed kind and friendly but my courage failed me at the last second.
So,I got up and went and stood near the verandah door,drinking in the scent of jasmine from the garden outside.I mentally made a note to go and explore it when I had the time.
Everyone seemed to be having a good time,except poor Lizzie...she was looking at Count Maxwell but he had eyes only for Tess.
"Men are the stupidest creatures alive!"...I muttered to myself..."they are so bound by society's idea of beauty,that they will not even give Lizzie a chance."
I waved my hand to draw Lizzie's attention and motioned her to come and join me by the door.
"Well this is going well don't you think?"...I asked her sarcastically

I could see Max's mind working,his every move was so crystal clear to me after all these years of friendship.
He zoomed in on Tess,after what seemed like a brief flutter of interest in Liz...as usual he monopolized the conversation,one would wonder that there were three of us standing together.
"Max can I have a word with you alone"...I butted in..."excuse us for just a minute Tess."I pulled him by his arm to the bar and demanded..."What the hell do you think you are doing Maxwell???"
