CH. 11

“Hey guys,” yawned Maria the next morning, rolling over and waking up the others in the process when Liz, Alec, and Maxie walked in the living room. Last night, everyone had just decided to move the furniture around and crash in there. No one wanted to expend the energy of traveling home. “How’d you sleep?”

“We didn’t,” shrugged Liz. “We stayed up all night talking.” She looked at all the sleepy faces staring back at her. “In fact, we need to talk to all of you about something.”

“Uh oh, why do I not like the sound of this,” Alex looked at the three warily. “What’s going on?”

“How about we get coffee first,” suggested Alec. “We can all talk about it over breakfast.”

“Food?” Michael immediately perked up.

“Yeah,” snorted Liz, “we’re going down to the Crashdown to eat the same food we eat every other day… you comin?”

“Hey, food is food… but don’t we need to open?” he asked, standing from his makeshift bed and stretching. The others were all doing the same around him.

“I’m not opening today… we have too many things going on, I can’t concentrate on this. The masses will just have to eat somewhere else.”

“Great!” He shrugged when everyone looked at him oddly “I’m not going to complain if I get a day off from work.” They all slowly started to make their way downstairs before Maxie spun around to rouse Logan. Ten minutes later, everyone except for Michael was sitting around a table in the diner and a cup of coffee was before them. “How did I know I was going to end up making breakfast?” he grumbled to himself. Finishing up the eggs and toast he walked out with plate laden trays and set them before his friends. As everyone began eating, the conversation also began.

“Before we get started, do any of you have any other questions?” asked Liz.

“Do you know what kind of cat you are?” asked Tess hesitantly. She didn’t know if there was anything that would make them uncomfortable.

“I’ve got panther in me” said Liz. She looked at Alec and Maxie who both nodded as well.

“Are you going to prom?” asked Maria, completely serious.

“What?” was the unanimous response of everyone.

“I’m serious, are you going to prom, it’s this weekend.” She shrugged as she looked at everyone. “Well let’s think about it, if this conversation is about to go anything like I think it will then she deserves to have at least one last night of teenage normalcy.”

“I hadn’t really thought of it,” replied Liz. She was looking slightly uncomfortable at the stares she was receiving. “I guess I could go, but I don’t have a dress and I don’t have a date.”

Alec looked at her, mock hurt showing on his face. “What am I chopped liver? I’ll be your date,” he smirked at the surprised look on her face.

“Are you sure? I didn’t want to assume…“

He waved her off, “Please a night with you looking gorgeous and being on my arm. I’m definitely there.” He looked at the others… ”So anymore questions?” When no one made a move to talk he sighed. “Ok then, Logan you want to do the honors. He did call you after all. Oh, before I forget, we didn’t mention it before because it wasn’t about us, but Logan said you should know, he’s Eyes Only.” Alec smirked at the stunned expressions on everyone’s faces. “How else do you think he knows everything he does?”

“Ok,” said Alex. “You’re Eyes Only?” When Logan nodded he dropped down on the ground at his feet. “Dude, you’re friggin’ Eyes Only!”

“Yeah Alex, we know.” sighed Maria, she shook her head in amusement at her friend.

“Maria… Eyes Only is my hero,” explained Alex, he turned back to Logan. “And I’ve been hanging out with him for like the last day and a half.” His face turned pale, “Oh my God… I talked shop with Eyes Only.”

“My name’s Logan,” he smirked at the young man before him.

“Right, I’m sorry… it’s just, wow!”

“So you want to let him get on with it Whitman?” asked an impatient Michael.

Logan stood and began pacing, every eye following him until he suddenly stopped and faced the group. “Lydecker contacted me yesterday while we were still out in the desert.” He looked at their confused faces. “Oh yeah, Lydecker was the original director of Project Manticore. We’ve had our run-ins with him and he’s the one who helped us destroy the DNA lab. When Renfro took over and killed one of his ‘kids’, he turned traitor on them.”

Logan paused and motioned to the three transgenics, “They are his ‘kids’, them and all the others, but he has special interest in the original escapees and Alec. Anyways, he called me and said there was a new threat to the X-series as a whole. He couldn’t tell me much, just that he knew where we were and he was on his way, also that we should be on our guard. We don’t know what exactly it is that he wants, but it seems like he wants to help. He told us this guys name and the basic idea of what he wants, but not much more.” He took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes in frustration. “Things might get hairy soon, just warning you-“

“Also if we pull out fast, don’t try and find us. Things go bad, we’re gone, it’s to protect ourselves as well as all of you. I’ll give Michael my emergency cell number only call if it’s a life or death situation,” glared Liz, looking sternly at each of them. “There, now that that’s done any news I need to be caught up on?”

“Alex was captured by Khivar to make Isabel come back to him, and Kyle developed powers,” blurted Maria, flushing when everyone stared at her. “What? I’ve been waiting forever to get that out to her!”

“Are you serious?” Liz looked sharply at Alex, “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine Lizzie; he just used me for bait.” Alex walked over and enveloped Liz in a comforting hug. “I’m fine,” he whispered.

“So you guys took out this Khivar character, right?” asked Maxie. Looking at the others and feeling a sense of dread begin in the pit of her stomach at their uncomfortable and sheepish looks.

“Guys, he’s gone right?” asked Liz, picking up on their hesitancy.

“Not exactly,” hedged Tess. She sighed and threw her hands up in the air in defeat. “He got away ok?”

“Damn it” hissed Liz.

“He’s not a threat, Isabel doesn’t want him and we kicked his butt,” shrugged Kyle.

“You don’t know he’s not a threat,” groaned Liz. “Rule number one, never leave your enemy intact, and take all possible measures to ensure the threat is eliminated.”

Max looked up from where he had been quietly sitting. “When the time comes, I’ll take care of Khivar. Nothing will happen to anymore people I care about. There’s nothing more we can do now, so why don’t we move on?”

Liz looked at Kyle, “Are you okay?” she asked her friend.

“I’m good, Buddha teaches us that only through conquering the obstacles in our path can we achieve true happiness.”

“I’ll take that as a yes,” she laughed. “Hmmm… I wonder why I didn’t develop powers.”

“Maybe because you’re already advanced,” shrugged Tess. “Kyle just unlocked a side of his brain that humans don’t use yet, not for another few hundred years at least. Maybe because you already have access to that and your DNA is so different, Max’s healing didn’t really change anything.”

“That’s a good theory,” mused Logan, looking at Tess with a newfound respect in his eyes.

Silence descended on the group as Maxie, Alec, and Liz battled their instincts and training while the others just sat waiting for someone else to talk. Maria finally broke the silence. “Lizzie, if you are going to prom then we need to get you a dress.”

“Shopping!” squealed Isabel and Tess, both already running through the places they would need to go. “The guys can come, it’ll be fun. We won’t just go shopping, we can just hang out and maybe go bowling.”

“Bowling?” asked Alec hesitantly.

“You’ve never been bowling?” asked Maria in shock.

“Oh yeah, in between field med and weapons training, I joined the bowling league…” Alec deadpanned.

“We’ll just have to teach you,” smiled Liz, not at all fazed by Alec’s comment. “So everyone meet at the mall at one?”

“Sounds good,” replied Alex. Everyone agreed and before long only the four friends were left.

“So, you guys are going to prom and Logan and I will hold down the fort,” clarified Maxie.

“Oh, Maxie, I forgot that you can’t go!” exclaimed Liz. “I don’t have to go; we can stay here and keep you guys company.”

“No, no, Maria was right you deserve a night of teenage normalcy. So go, have fun with your friends. We can deal with covert organizations and guns and everything else that is our usual norm. later.” She sighed and stretched, purring as she felt her muscles loosen. “Let’s get ready to go out. Liz jumped up racing back upstairs, calling over her shoulder that she got first shower. The others simply looked at each other and smirked, slowly following her back to the apartment.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz had decided to just ride with Alec out to the mall, she pointed out where to turn and before they knew it they were there. Maxie pulled up next; Logan perched on the back of her bike, arms wrapped tightly around her. No matter how many times he had ridden on the bike he still wasn’t used to it.

Liz looked at her friends, standing just inside the entrance; each one was dressed in jeans or some other laid back type of clothing. She looked down at herself and her family, they were semi casual. She herself was in black slide on tennis shoes, black drawstring cargo Capri’s and a red tank top, her leather jacket hung loosely on her shoulders. Alec was in black cargos and a black t-shirt, his leather jacket hung nicely on his broad shoulders. While Maxie and Logan were both in jeans, Logan wore a tight gray shirt and Maxie was wearing a blue t-shirt, leather jackets on both of them. Oh yeah, we’re nothing out of the ordinary, we should just stamp it on our foreheads that we’re genetic military weapons. She began walking in to meet the others, smiling when they automatically opened the doors for them to walk through. “So we ready?”

“Oh yeah,” smiled Maria almost bouncing around them. “I thought we girls could go get you ready and the guys could take Alec to get his tux. We can meet later for dinner and to hang out, then move on from there.”

“Sounds good,” shrugged Alec. He didn’t know what it was like shopping with the girls but he wasn’t sure he wanted to find out right now. “Let’s go get my penguin suit boys, and girls don’t be too long.” He looked pleadingly at Liz.

“We’ll rendezvous at five in the food court,” she arched a brow at Alec in question and he nodded. “All right, let’s move out.” The girls made their way into various stores, but nothing Liz saw really jumped out at her. Finally as they were walking into the last store she turned to the others. “What are you guys wearing?” she asked her friends.

Isabel looked over at her from the rack she was currently perusing. “My dress is red and strapless, it’s kind of tight but not so I can’t move or breathe and it flares out at the bottom. I got red heels to go with it, other than that I’m going for simply beautiful this year.”

“My dress is blue,” squealed Tess. “Sorry, its just Kyle likes me in blue. Anyways it’s got tiny straps that cross back and forth on my shoulders and the back plunges down to my lower back. It’s got a sheer white top layer that flows over the entire dress; the top has little blue flowers all over it.” She moved over to a rack of shoes and picked up a pair of black boots. “I need new shoes,” she mused.

“My dress is pink, but not like bright, makes you want to puke pink. This is a nice shade. It’s a halter dress that cuts across my back while the front plunges low,” she giggled before speaking again. “I wonder what Michael will think. Also, it’s got a slit up the front to about my knees where the material gathers and drapes around my legs. Oh I love this song!” she squealed as she and Isabel and Tess began dancing in the store.

When it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love
You'll understand what I mean when I say
There's no way we're gonna give up
And like a little girl cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there cause it's getting harder and harder to breathe

“Kat,” called Maxie. She pulled her sister over to the dress she was looking at, the other girls oblivious as they continued to dance. “This dress would be perfect on you.”

“Are you sure? I mean I don’t think I have the body for that,” she chewed on her lower lip in contemplation.

“Are you kidding, girl, go try this on Alec will freak!” Maxie stood back and waited for Kat to come out of the dressing room. She didn’t have to wait long, a few minutes later her baby sister walked out and she looked amazing. Her dress was black with the thinnest straps, the material shimmered as she moved and the back dropped away to about the top of her butt. There was a slit up one side to almost her hip and the front was simple, it plunged but not too deeply. She looked amazing even though she did seem a bit uncomfortable.

“Does it look okay?” she asked, smoothing down the material nervously as she looked in the mirror. Maxie was kept from answering by the others gasps.

“Oh my God Liz, you look amazing!” shrieked Maria.

“She’s right Liz, that dress was made for you,” said Isabel. She couldn’t believe how different Liz looked, the dress really did seem to have been made for her.

What you are doing is screwing things up inside my head
You should know better you never listened to what I've said
Clutching your pillow and writhing in a naked sweat
Hoping somebody someday will do you like I did

“Alec’s going to flip!” was Tess’s smug response. She could see it now and it thrilled her to no end.

“Guys, nothing’s going on between Alec and I, he’s just taking me to prom as a friend,” Liz tried to explain. But from her three friends disbelieving looks and Maxie’s guarded smile she sighed and didn’t mention it again. “So you think I should get this one?”

“Definitely, and I found heels to match,” exclaimed Isabel rushing back over to the shoes before coming back. They weren’t that high, so Liz wouldn’t kill herself in them, but the straps delicately crisscrossed up her ankle before tying off. She loved them.

“Oooh, oooh, you have to get this necklace.” Maria held up a silver chain with a simple diamond heart that would hang just low enough but it was the back that made it even better. The chain was made to hang down to her mid back, bringing more attention to the creamy skin of her back. “I think you’ve got your prom outfit Lizzie,” smiled Maria.

“Let’s pay for this and then we better find the boys, and make sure they’re not getting into trouble,” sighed Maxie, “With Alec, you never know what’s going to happen.”

“Yeah, I can see him and Kyle becoming great friends,” groaned Liz, straightening when she realized what that meant. “Let’s go, NOW!” The girls did indeed find the guys, Alec and Kyle were laughing at something that Michael was just staring at in amusement while talking quietly to Max. Logan and Alex seemed to be in an intense conversation, there were arms flailing about and amusing expressions on both their faces. Liz sidled up next to Alec, “What are you doing stranger?”

Does it kill
Does it burn
Is it painful to learn
That it's me that has all the control

Does it thrill
Does it sting
When you feel what I bring
And you wish that you had me to hold

Alec looked over at Liz, smiling and delight twinkling in his eyes. He was happy, for once in his life, he was happy and he was enjoying every minute of it. “Kyle is showing off his powers to me,” he smirked, looking innocent as hell but Liz knew it was all an act.

“And I’m sure everything you’re doing is completely legal,” she asked brows raised.

“Why do you make me lie to you? Besides it’s nothing you and I wouldn’t do together” he chuckled as Kyle turned, his own eyebrows raised, only in amusement and piqued interest.

“Really?” he asked, a smirk threatening to consume his entire face.

“Shut up,” scolded Alec. He turned back to Liz, “So you girls ready to eat?” He asked in an attempt to distract her from Kyle’s questioning gaze.

“Starved!” exclaimed Liz and Maxie; the two girls were letting him off the hook this once. The two girls ran off, being chased by Alec as they dashed to the food court. Everyone else trailed after them amused. The group sat down and enjoyed a nice dinner, when they left the mall; Liz, Alec, Maxie and Logan took off to go back to the apartment and put up their stuff. Everyone else promised to meet them later to pick them up for bowling, the girls wanted to go home and change into more bowling oriented attire, or so they said.

CH 12

That night Alex pulled up in his Corolla with Isabel, Kyle and Tess; while Max drove Bob and had Maria and Michael, they arrived at the Crashdown shortly after seven and looked up in amusement when they could hear music blasting out of the apartment above them.

“Damn” exclaimed Michael, “they sure do like loud music.” A grin split his face as he realized what they were listening to. “And they’ve got good taste.” Although Michael was a Metallica fanatic, his music taste expanded to other rock groups as well. He looked around at his friends, all the guys were in jeans, it had basically become their trademark except for the occasional cargos, and they all had on t-shirts of varying colors.

Michael of course was in black, Max was in red, Alex had on green and Kyle blue. Tess was wearing jeans and a baby blue spaghetti strap t-shirt to match Kyle, Michael was sure. Maria was wearing black jeans and a green long sleeved shirt that cut off on her stomach leaving a lot of skin exposed. Isabel was in boot cut blue jeans and a red t-shirt after getting the approval on what they were wearing from Isabel they all made their way inside and upstairs.

Kyle pushed open the door and nearly laughed out loud at the sight before him. Liz and Maxie were jumping around the room, singing along with the song at the top of their lungs while Logan and Alec simply sat back on the couch and watched them with amusement.

Can we forget about the things
I said when I was drunk
I didn’t mean to call you that
I can’t remember what was said or what you threw at me
Please tell me
Please tell me why
My car is in the front yard
And I’m sleeping with my clothes on
I came in through the window last night
And you’re gone

Isabel did a very unladylike thing and snorted at the scene before her but composed herself and took in what they were all wearing. Liz was in black leather pants with holes in strategic places laced together with strips of leather; her black wifebeater rode high on her stomach and conformed perfectly to her body, Maxie was wearing the same except her wifebeater was white, both girls were wearing black boots and their hair was pulled back but oddly, no barcode could be seen. She’d have to ask them about that. Next came the guys, Alec was in black jeans and a simple gray shirt that clung tightly to his muscled frame, Liz was one very lucky girl. Logan was wearing black cargo’s now and a blue muscle shirt with a picture of a huge wave and a surfer. All four leather jackets were hanging on the rack a few feet away.

It’s no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy
Cuz every now and then I kick the living shit out of me
The smoke alarm is going off and there’s a cigarette
Still burning
Please tell me why
My car is in the front yard
And I’m sleeping with my clothes on
I cam in through the window last night
And you’re gone

Liz and Maxie were jumping around, banging their heads to the beat and laughing as hard as they could. Logan and Alec traded looks, smirking at their girls. Alec did a double take, his head whipping around to stare at them. When he noticed them, the seven moved further into the room. He stood to grab Liz around the waist and threw her down on the couch pouncing on her and tickling her mercilessly as Logan got Maxie’s attention and pointed.

It’s no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy
Cuz every now and then I kick the living shit out of me
The smoke alarm is going off and there’s a cigarette
Still burning

“Guys we have company!” shouted Maxie. When neither Alec nor Liz responded she walked over and smacked them both over the head. She pointed out everyone and repeated that they had company. “You guys ready to go?” When everyone stood and moved back to the door, Alec and Liz stood, the four moved over and grabbed their leather jackets.

“Yeah, by the way… what happened to your bar codes?” asked Isabel.

Liz looked confused for a moment before snapping out of it. “Oh, body makeup… hides them when we have our hair up or need to blend in even more so… how else do you think I kept it hidden from you guys, remember I had my hair up a lot working in the diner, besides lasering them off hurts like a bitch and they return a few weeks later anyways.”

“I’m riding with whoever’s got room” declared Logan. At Maxie’s hurt look he explained. “You guys are in one of your ‘moods’ and I myself am in no mood to do death defying things. Plus if I know you, and I do.” Logan quirked a brow at Maxie’s indignant expression. “You’ll be out till all hours while we ordinaries need our sleep. So if I ride with them then the three of you can each take your bikes no baggage.” He shrugged at the looks he received.

“That’s great Logan but you didn’t have to say it in excruciating detail” laughed Liz as she walked downstairs. The group made their way to the bowling alley and found it relatively deserted, which was perfectly fine with them. They ended up going girls versus guys and the girls totally dominated much to the chagrin of the others. By the end of the night there were bets being taken and even some of the other patrons were getting in on the action, seeing who bowled the best between the sexes.

Alec glanced up at one point and nearly had a conniption when he saw Liz flirting with some muscle bound air headed jock… at least that’s what he assumed the guy was. He didn’t give it much thought, all he saw was Liz smiling and laughing with this guy and then she placed her hand on his arm and laughed some more. Alec nearly saw red. He never noticed the conspiring glances of the other girls or the smirks they were sending each other.

After a while they moved on to the pool tables where Liz and Alec proceeded to beat the pants off everyone who dared to come up against them. Liz had walked away to get drinks for everyone and when she returned she saw some bimbo falling over Alec. Her shirt was so tight if she breathed any harder and leaned over anymore her boobs would just fall out all over the place. She growled and gripped her glass so hard it shattered, no one noticed except for Tess who leaned over and restored it, setting it next to Liz. Liz didn’t even acknowledge Tess, she was so intent on Alec’s responses to the over amorous slut.

Liz didn’t see Tess walk over and whisper to the other girls who then cast glances her way, flicking back and forth between her and Alec. Liz straightened her back and walked over to the guy she had been talking to earlier, pulling him with her to play on another table. She didn’t notice Alec’s glare or the others nearly falling out of their seats laughing at their antics. She was half focused on the guy next to her and kept shooting glances at the table that held Alec and that… girl.

Maxie couldn’t take it anymore. “Okay guys, how about we head on home, you know stop taking these nice people’s money.” She nearly groaned in relief when Alec and Liz tore themselves away from their ‘friends.’ She was so sick of seeing the crap that was going down between them; she just wished they’d jump each other already. Sure it had been amusing to watch the two of them earlier but now it was just getting plain irritating. She looked at the others and could see thankful expressions on some of their faces.

“So what are we going to do now?” asked Liz, coming over and standing between Maria and Tess, she completely ignored Alec and the look on his face told her she hurt him but she couldn’t bring herself to care. If he hadn’t of been so involved with ‘Skank Barbie’ then she wouldn’t be like this. She didn’t know what was making her act like this, she was used to Alec flirting with other girls… something lately was just pushing her buttons.

“I think we’re going to head home” said Tess sleepily; a yawn burst forth only reinforcing her statement. The others laughed as they all headed to their cars.

“How about we go to UFOnics tomorrow night” suggested Liz.

“Sounds good” shrugged Max, while he was still a little uncomfortable being around the others; he was starting to feel like a part of the group.

“Ok, Michael and Maria… we are opening the Crashdown tomorrow. The three of us are working the morning shift, but I’m going to have take off for a little bit… I’m getting my diploma from the school; Saturday is my last official high school activity.” Her tone was a little wistful and it surprised most of them but they shrugged it off when Liz seemed to.

“How is it that you guys aren’t at school this week?” asked Logan. He hadn’t even realized that today was Wednesday, too many things had being going down lately to really keep track of the days.

“Even though things here are better than other places now, stuff still has a tendency to go wrong… everything at the school is down. They cancelled until it’s up and running again” shrugged Alex. “I offered my services to get the computer system running again but they declined, seemed to think I would just tamper.” His expression turned innocent. “I don’t know why they would get that idea.”

“Yeah right” snorted Liz. “I remember a couple of years ago when you made all the computers start playing that porn film, school was shut down for two weeks trying to get it off.”

“Alex you dog,” laughed Alec. “Okay, so you three work tomorrow and then tomorrow night we party?”

“Looks like,” said Tess noticing that Alec and Liz seemed to be subconsciously drifting together. She figured it wouldn’t be long… she just hoped this whole thing didn’t blow up in their faces. She got the sinking feeling it would though.

Everyone parted ways, the aliens and humans going home. Liz had given Logan a copy of the key to her apartment so he headed back there to do a little Eyes Only work before crashing. The three transgenics took off on their bikes, just driving in the desert, clearing their heads and enjoying being with each other. Alec and Liz had finally returned to normal, a little air and a good adrenaline rush was all that was needed to restore them to their usual antics.

The three arrived back at the Crashdown and jumped up to the roof, laughing and trying to shush the others. Taking turns they jumped off the building, using their agility to land softly on their feet before jumping back up and doing it again. Soon it became a competition on who could do the most intricate jump. Finally heading inside when things became too heated. They didn’t want to wake the neighbors to people jumping on and off of roofs.

~*~*~*~*~*~

The next morning was busy; Liz and Maria were the only two waiting tables and everyone who didn’t get food there yesterday seemed to be in at the same time. Michael was constantly ringing the bell and swearing at them to hurry up until Maxie took pity on her sister and new friend and decided to help out. When she slipped into the uniform and stepped out there happened to be a dent in the masses so Liz and Maria were taking a much needed break, This also presented the three of them as targets to Alec and Logan, both of whom had waken late and come downstairs only a few minutes ago.

Maxie noticed the look on Alec’s face and stopped him before he could start. “You say one word, even the slightest hint of something smart ass coming out of your mouth about these uniforms and I’ll shove my foot so far up your ass you won’t be able to talk because it’ll be coming out through your mouth,” she growled. Smiling she turned to Logan. “Don’t you say anything either,” she warned, kissing him quickly on the lips before walking away to join Liz and Maria.

“Hey guys, since there’s a break in customers you think I could swing by the school and be back in time?” asked Liz as Maxie walked up.

“Sure, me and Ria can hold down the fort” shrugged Maxie.

“Yeah chica… we got it covered. By the way,” the blonde turned to Maxie. “What was up with that little chat with Alec?”

“Smart ass tried to start something about the uniforms” she growled, turning back to look at him sitting there with Logan drinking coffee.

“If he dares to say anything… I’ll kill him myself” warned Liz. She looked at the clock. “I better get going before lunch rush starts. Agnes and Tiffany should be in soon along with Jose; hopefully I’ll be back first though.” She thanked both of them again before rushing out of the diner and over to her bike. She never noticed the eyes watching her from the shadows.

A/N: So, after the week from hell, of the first week of college, I am back! Yay me! Anyways, I digress, after reading the first few parts of vampiricheart's story, my muse is gunning for a new Xtremer story. Now don't worry dear readers, I will get the sequel to this finished, but when my muse calls I cannot ignore.

Also, thanks for all the amazing feedback! I love it you guys, really, and let me just say I nearly passed out when I saw that the lovely Calinia had left feedback. It was a real honor and I'm sure a lot of you feel the same. So thanks for all your feedback and more is most definitely welcome! OH, most important part; for those of you jonesing for some Alec/Liz lovin' I swear it's coming up in the next few parts, just please be patient a while longer!

CH. 13

That night, the guys arrived at Liz’s apartment at about eight. Isabel had once again been the coordinator of everyone’s outfits, and the girls had gotten ready at Liz’s. Tess was wearing a dark blue leather mini skirt with a sky blue silk halter top, her normally curly blonde hair was straightened and she had on a silver choker with a blue teardrop in the center. Her makeup was light and she had on silver stilettos.

Maria was next, her brown leather pants molded to her body and the green long sleeved shirt she was wearing had flared sleeves that started at her elbow and flowed down past her fingertips. The top itself cut off just beneath her breasts, it was held down by a band of elastic that ran around the entire top, it left her entire stomach bare and above her breasts was a deep v-neck plunge. She was wearing brown boots and her hair was curled and pinned in various places.

Isabel was wearing red, of course. She was wearing black leather pants and a red tube top with red stilettos sticking out from the bottom of her pants. Her makeup shimmered and sparkled as she shifted with the light. All three girls looked great, but in their minds they were nothing compared to Maxie and Liz.

Maxie was wearing low slung black leather pants with a silver chain belt. Her black boots stuck out from the bottom of the pants and her top consisted of what appeared to be a plain maroon halter top, but when she turned around and didn’t have on her leather jacket, you could see their was no back, simply black chains draping across her back. The top had a high wraparound collar and Maxie’s long hair was straightened and hung down beautifully around her bare shoulders.

Liz was last; she was wearing a blood red halter dress with sparkling black flowers on it. The dress came down to her knees on one side and then slanted up to almost her hip on the other. She was wearing strappy black heels and her hair had a wet, slightly curly look to it. Her eye shadow was a shimmering black and she had glitter on her cheekbones, while her gorgeous, thick, lips were glossed over in red. Isabel looked at all of them and felt pleased with herself. “Well ladies, let’s not keep the guys waiting any longer.” She smiled as she strutted out of the room; Tess and Maria following her. Liz and Maxie hung back for just a minute.

“You feel it?” asked Maxie looking at her little sister.

“I feel something. I can feel a comforting presence and a not so comforting presence. I don’t know what it is, but I think we’re running out of time. I don’t want to just ignore it, but I’m so happy Maxie” she turned tear filled eyes on her big sister. “Something’s coming and I don’t know if we’re strong enough to face it. I can’t help but think I’m going to lose more people that I care about before this is all over.”

“Hey, shhh… we’ll deal with this bitch, take it one day at a time.” She wiped away Liz’s tears without smudging any of the make up and took her sister’s hand in her own. “We can do this, we’re good. Now, we shouldn’t keep them waiting any more. You going to be okay?”

“Yeah, I’m good. I’m ready to go out and have a good time, but after prom I think we need to move on.”

“Deal, now let’s go.” The two women made their way out to where their friends were waiting and Liz realized yet again how lucky she was. Alec stood before her looking like a god. He was wearing black cargo pants and a long sleeve white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The shirt was casually untucked and his black boots were sticking out from underneath the cuffs of his pants. His hair was messily styled, although Liz didn’t think he really did it on purpose and that just made it even more adorable and sexy. The other guys were similarly dressed, some things varied but overall they looked good, though not quite as good as Alec.

Shrugging out of her daze she looked at everyone, avoiding staring at Alec for too long. “Let’s blaze” she called, heading down to where the cars and bikes waited. They arrived at the club about ten minutes later and stood in line for twenty more. Finally they got in the door and the girls took off for the dance floor immediately. Alec looked after them for a moment before turning to the guys.

“So who’s getting drinks and who’s getting a table?”

“I’ll get drinks, I know what these guys can and can’t drink,” offered Kyle.

“Cool, I’m coming with you,” said Alec. He turned to Logan, “What about you?”

“Yeah count me in, Alex?”

“Yeah, I’ll take care of the Isabel, Maria and Tess’s drinks too. How about our alien friends grab the table?”

“Yeah, yeah; we see when we’re not wanted, we’ll go get the table since we can’t drink” grumbled Michael. He and Max walked away, leaving the three humans with Alec. It was times like these that he hated that Kyle didn’t inherit their reaction to alcohol. A few minutes later he looked up and waved the guys over. He and Max had found a table strategically placed so they could see the girls dancing in the center of the room. Michael was becoming increasingly concerned by the attention being shot towards the girls well; specifically Maria. “Those guys are really starting to piss me off” he growled.

“What guys?” asked Alec as he sat down at the table.

“Michael’s obsessing over those guys drooling over the girls” explained Max.

“Damn it, they’re getting awfully close to them, any of them lay a hand on the girls and they’re dead.”

“Just go dance with her” sighed Alex. He took a sip of his beer as he watched Isabel dancing with Liz. He smiled at the happiness radiating off of her, sitting back he noticed the happiness coming from everyone, well, except Alec. “Hey man, what’s wrong?” When he didn’t get a response he turned and looked at the man next to him.

“Alec?” Alex asked again, waving a hand in front of the blonde’s eyes and still not getting a response or even a blink he turned and looked out at the dance floor, trying to pin down what Alec was looking at, it wasn’t that hard. Liz was dancing with some guy, her arms wrapped around his neck as she ground her hips into his. Alex looked back at Alec and sighed, he hoped his friends would come to their senses soon; this was really starting to get annoying.

A few minutes later Liz came sashaying over. She spun the chair around and plopped down, leaning against the back of it. “Uhh Liz, don’t mean to point out the obvious but you’re in a dress” said Kyle, looking at her over his glass.

“Yeah, so?” she asked looking down at herself. “Oh, yeah, I don’t really care; I’m more comfortable this way.” She looked at Alec for a moment, “Did you get me my drink?” she asked him.

“One whiskey and coke just for you,” he said, swallowing back everything he felt just to keep her happy. “You looked like you were having fun out there” he choked out.

“Yeah, until that guy started groping my ass. I think I might have ‘accidentally’ broken a couple of his fingers,” she smirked.

“That’s my girl” he smiled proudly. He didn’t understand where all this jealousy was suddenly coming from; he had seen her around other guys before. Some of the other soldiers in Manticore had flirted shamelessly with her. As taboo as she seemed to be, it also drew some of them in.

“Oh I love this song!” she exclaimed. “Alec, please come dance with me” she turned the puppy dog eyes on him.

He relented easily, standing and holding his hand out to her. She squealed as he pulled her to him, leading her out onto the dance floor as Rob Thomas’s sultry voice carried throughout the smoky club.

Man it’s a hot one
Like seven inches from the midday sun
I hear you whisper and the words melt everyone
But you stay so cool
My mu equita my spanish harlem mona lisa
Your my reason for reason
The step in my groove

Liz slid her leg between Alec’s smiling up at him as she wrapped her arms around his neck. She felt him put his hands on her waist, his hands actually almost encircling her entire tiny waist. They began swaying to the beat together, moving perfectly and they began to draw the attention of the others around them. Soon they had an audience watching them; the guys except for Max had also abandoned their table, coming up to wrap their arms around their girlfriends and watch Liz and Alec as they moved as one.

They had been made perfect; this was just another area in their lives that showed off their designer’s skill. They looked perfect together and their friends just couldn’t understand how they didn’t see it. Alec moved one hand up and wrapped it around the back of her neck, the other resting on her waist as he held her against him.

And if you say this life ain’t good enough
I would give my world to lift you up
I could change my life to better suit your mood
Cause you’re so smooth

Every single girl in the room sighed as they watched the hunky blonde dance with the gorgeous brunette. Her leg was between his and they were grinding themselves so closely together you couldn’t tell where one ended and the other began. Liz moved her small hands to Alec’s shoulders, bracing herself as he dipped her backwards, pulling her slowly and sensuously back up his body. She didn’t know what was going on between them but this was an interesting turn of events.

Liz was close to him but they had never been in this particular situation before, her emotions were heightened and she could hear and feel everything around her, everything that was him. She spun around in his arms, her back to his front as she ran her hands through her hair, pulling it up and away from her face and neck. Sweat was beading on her creamy skin as she felt Alec place his large, warm hands once more at her waist.

And just like the ocean under the moon
Well that’s the same emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin that can be so smooth
Gimme your heart make it real
Or else forget about it

As the beat became more defined she moved her hips side to side each time the bass pumped out. She could feel Alec’s arousal and it turned her on but she knew they couldn’t do anything. There was too much between them. For right now she was enjoying this dance.

Alec nearly groaned from the time she stepped into his arms. The whole world dissolved around him until it was just the two of them. He had nearly lost it back at her apartment when she had stepped out in that tiny little dress. She was really working it tonight, and that dick she had been dancing with earlier had no idea what he had in his arms. He had gone and blown it, to Alec’s advantage but still Liz deserved to be with someone who could handle all of her. Feeling her body grind up against his, fitting so perfectly against him, made him wish that he could be that someone. It was getting harder to be around her, but he knew he would restrain himself if it came down to it.

I’ll tell you one thing
If you would leave it would be a crying shame
In every breath and every word I hear your name calling me out
Out from the barrio you hear my rhythm from your radio
You feel the turning of the world so soft and slow
Turning you round and round

Alec spun her back to face him once more; he placed one of his hands at the small of her back as he dipped her backwards. Taking a dare, he ran his hand down the valley of her breasts as she was bent backwards, over her firm stomach until he reached her hip, wrapping his other arm around her he brought her back up to face him, shocked to find her eyes black with desire. She hooked one of her legs around his waist, pulling their hips flushed as he spun her backwards. Her hair was flying out behind her as he ran his hand up her thigh and body to tangle in her hair.

And just like the ocean under the moon
Well that’s the same emotion that I get from you
You got the kind of lovin that can be so smooth
Gimme your heart make it real
Or else forget about it

They finished the dance, breathing heavily and shocked when applause exploded around them. They both looked slightly embarrassed but kept shooting each other questioning glances. Liz pulled away from him as the girls surrounded her and began herding her towards the bathroom. However she stopped suddenly as a figure caught her eye.

Seeing him, Liz felt her stomach drop. She stopped immediately walking over to him and noticed him moving away, he was heading towards the back door. She turned quickly motioning for Maxie to get the others and follow her. Slamming open the back door she walked out, inhaling the fresh air opposed to the stifling air inside the club. Looking around she immediately went on the defensive just in case, but then the figure stepped out of the shadows. Her hand flew to her mouth, smothering a gasp. She could feel tears well up in her eyes. “Zack?” she questioned hesitantly, taking in the blonde figure dressed in black pants, black shirt, and black leather jacket.

“It’s me Kat” he whispered, choking on emotions he tried to push back. This was the first time he had made contact with his youngest and closest sister since everything had gone down. He opened his arms and she ran into them. He sighed as he wrapped his arms around her, relishing the feel of her safely tucked against him.

If Zack had ever lost her or Maxie he didn’t know what he would do. Zack felt tears come to his eyes at the realization that he almost had. Looking up when the door slammed open again, he tensed but then relaxed when he saw it was Maxie, and Logan, and Alec; he knew who he was from keeping tabs on his little sisters. He couldn’t say he was happy with the fact that he and Kat were apparently getting close, but he couldn’t shelter her all the time anymore. She was a grown woman. But why the hell did the rest of these people come out here, he knew what kind of shit had gone down with his little sister because of them. They hurt her and he would be damned before he let them do it again. “Kat” he asked hesitantly, “do all of them know the truth?”

Liz looked down, feeling her face heat up with shame, the last thing she ever wanted to do was disappoint Zack. “Yeah,” she whispered quietly, her face buried in his chest. “When we made it back, I got shot… we don’t who’s after me yet but when we got inside the Crashdown, well, they were all there. Max healed Maxie and Logan, Zack. They’re good people and they won’t tell anyone. Our secret is safe with them.”

Liz pulled back a little bit, looking into her older brother’s eyes. She could see him fighting a battle within himself on whether to give in and trust or to run, run like he always did since the escape; it was the only way to guarantee longer safety. She smiled in relief when he looked down at her, enveloping her in a hug once more and promised he would stay with her.

“Zack?” asked Maxie hesitantly as she walked towards where her brother and sister were. “Oh my God, Zack!” she sobbed, falling into the waiting arms of her big brother and little sister. Everything else around them faded, the others all staring on in confusion except for Logan and Alec, the fact that they were standing in the middle of a dark alley, and the fact that there were people hunting them suddenly didn’t matter anymore now that she was reunited completely with the two siblings that meant the most in the world to her.

The three pulled apart, wiping tears that had been long in coming, away. Liz turned to face her friends. “Guys, this is Zack, my big brother and commanding officer. Zack, these are my friends: Maria, Michael, Alex, Isabel, Tess, Kyle, and Max. You already know Logan and Alec” she motioned to everyone before Alec stepped up.

“Maybe we should continue this reunion back at your apartment where there is less chance of being overheard” he suggested.

“Zack?” Liz turned questioning eyes on him.

He smiled softly as he caressed her hair fondly. “My bike is around the corner, I’ll meet you there.”

“Sounds good” she smiled. “Let’s bounce!”

A/N: hello, I just wanted to let you all know that the beginning of what you have all been waiting on is in the next ch. I know, I know... it took me long enough didn't it? well, tough... j/k don't hurt me. I hope you all enjoy it and I'll try to have it up by the end of the week or so.

A few questions to answer:

who shot Liz will basically be answered in ch. 18

Zack and Logan will get along fine... I have other plans for Zack :P

also, there was a question earlier on whether or not anymore of Liz's family will show up, well the answer is kind of... but not until the last ch. there will be more of them in the sequel.

Now, on with the story, I hope you enjoy it!

CH. 14

The next morning was pretty uneventful, Michael, Liz and Maria did their shift, with the others all sitting at the regular booth. Zack was getting to know everyone and trying to comprehend just what exactly was going on as Maxie filled him in on what he had been missing. Around one Liz and the others clocked out as the new shift came on. Liz and Maria went upstairs to change and Michael to the bathroom. They each came out a few minutes later. Liz was wearing low slung black jeans and a dark purple long sleeved shirt. Maria was in a jean mini skirt and a white tank top while Michael was in jeans and a long sleeve gray shirt.

Isabel looked up as they all walked back into the room, “Before any other conversation starts, let me be the one to ask what is up with you guys and motorcycles? All four of you have them, and appear to be obsessed with them.”

“My bike is an extension of my soul” said Liz, pausing as a far away look entered her eyes. “I had one before I was taken back to Manticore in fact it was the one I was riding when I got grabbed. They trashed it, the bastards, and I had to get a new one, but that thing is 600 cylinders between my legs and it’s an amazing feeling.” She trailed off, “What?” she asked as her friends all looked at her oddly. She looked at her family and Alec. “You guys know what I mean.” She smiled as they nodded. “See? By the way, might I say that, God it’s good to be out of that uniform” sighed Liz as she plopped down next to Zack.

“But you look so cute” smirked Alec. “OW!” he exclaimed leaning over and rubbing his shin, glaring at Liz as she smiled in satisfaction. “So uh, Maxie” he grunted, turning to look at the girl snuggled in Logan’s arms. Personally he thought they were sickeningly sweet and he felt a cavity coming on whenever they were in the same room together. “I’m thinking of getting a job when we move back to Seattle.”

“No Alec!” glared Max. She knew exactly where he was going with this and she wasn’t about to do this.

“I could really use the job” he smirked.

“I’ll need a job too” smirked Liz, her eyes twinkling as she and Alec ganged up on her sister.

“Wait, what?” asked Maria, alarmed. “Why would you need a job in Seattle when you’re here?”

“Maria,” Liz said gently, laying a hand on her friends arm. “I can’t stay here any longer; we’re probably leaving next week. You knew this” she said softly.

“I know” she sniffled. “I was just holding out hope that maybe you wouldn’t leave again.”

“Hey,” said Logan, “Maybe if it’s safe, when summer gets here for you guys, you can all come up… if it’s okay with them” he pointed at Liz and the others.

“Maybe, if it’s safe” conceded Zack.

“So about that job” said Alec, diverting the conversation back to his original goal.

“You I don’t mind” smiled Maxie, pointing to Liz, “but you” she continued to glare at Alec. “I don’t want you anywhere near the place.”

“Where better to work than where you already have friends?”

“You’re not really my friend, you’re Kat’s friend. To me, you are a pain in the ass and I’d just as soon beat you repeatedly with a stick than have you work at Jam Pony.”

“That’s cold Maxie, and that hurts.”

“Not as much as that stick would” laughed Liz. She turned and bumped fists with Zack as he laughed too watching the interaction between his sister and the guy that apparently was in love with her, not that she noticed. He wasn’t sure how he felt about her being with Alec, he had nothing against the guy personally just a normal, ‘nobody’s good enough for my little sister’ thing.

“Besides, you would just use the opportunity as a way of casing places to rob” Maxie arched a brow at Alec, daring him to contradict her.

“No I wouldn’t!” exclaimed Liz and Alec both, they looked at each other before Liz looked guiltily away. Everyone else was holding their sides from laughing so hard at their antics and wiping away tears from their eyes.

“Excuse me?” asked Maxie looking at her sister.

“Nothing” said Liz, coughing and shrugging uncomfortably. She looked back up and glared at Maxie after a minute. “Hey a girl’s gotta make a living.”

“Yeah, do it honestly.”

“That’s a first” muttered Logan.

“Traitor!” accused Maxie, scowling at her boyfriend.

“You can’t live on minimum wage in that city!” argued Liz and Alec again at the same time, glancing at each other once more.

“Okay, now that’s getting creepy.” Tess looked between the siblings and then flicked her eyes to Alec. “So,” she looked around as the café began filling up again. “Maybe we should move this party upstairs so people don’t overhear certain things.” She looked at Logan as his phone went off, everyone looked at him oddly.

“You expecting a phone call?” asked Liz, “almost everyone who would call you is here.”

“I know, maybe it’s one of my contacts… or Lydecker” he grimaced at the thought of dealing with that man right now.

“Why would Lydecker be calling you?” asked Zack sharply. He looked around the room, before looking back at the others as Logan answered his phone. “What’s going on?”

“We’ll talk about it upstairs” whispered Liz sharply. She looked over at Logan again, “Who is it?” she mouthed.

“Asha” he whispered back, snickering at the look of disgust on Max, Kat and Alec’s faces. Kat and Alec had never met Asha but Max had told them all about her. “No, not you… I was talking to someone else. Max and I are taking care of business for Eyes Only. No, I don’t know when we’ll be back. Asha, I’ll talk to you when we get back, yes, no I don’t like that idea-“

“He doesn’t like that idea?” asked Alec with a smirk, “I don’t think I like that idea either, what about you three?” He turned to look at Zack, Maxie and Kat. “OW Damn it woman!” he cursed as Maxie smacked him on the head.

“I don’t think I like that idea” smirked Liz as her sister glared at her.

“I don’t know what we’re talking about” shrugged Zack, “I’ll get back to you.”

Everyone zoned back in on Logan’s conversation, snickering at the annoyed look on his face. “Bye, Asha…” he clicked his phone shut and sighed.

“She wants to jump your bones” growled Maxie.

“No she doesn’t, she’s just a friend” argued Logan, blind to the fact that other women wanted him. He was solely focused on Max and Liz thought that was how it should be.

“A friend who wants to jump your bones” smirked Liz. She stood and walked away.

“Yeah, I don't like that idea either" Zack smirked at Maxie. It was a favorite pasttime of his, to rile his sisters. "So back to the whole Lydecker thing” asked Zack in confusion. “Why are we on friendly terms with him after everything?”

“Upstairs now!” shouted Liz from the doorway, startling some of the guests but getting the others asses moving just fine. Once everyone was settled upstairs she turned and looked at Zack. “Lydecker contacted us, the new bad guy in our life has information on Max and myself that even himself and the other people at Manticore didn’t know of. He said he was going to do some more digging and get back with us, we’re still waiting.”

“How do you know this isn’t a set up?” asked Zack standing and facing off against his little sister. “You should have called me!”

“You weren’t here, you’re never here! You left Maxie at Manticore and you didn’t even come for me when I got recaptured! I was there Zack, I was there when you four blew the DNA lab and you didn’t even know” shouted Liz sadly before storming out of the room, she left the others and slid down the fire escape. So many thoughts were rushing through her head and she felt like the walls were closing in around her. She jumped onto her bike and sped off, leaving Roswell in her dust as she drove out into the desert.

“Zack, she didn’t mean it” whispered Maxie, placing a comforting hand on her brother’s shoulder as he slumped back against the seat.

“Yes she did, Maxie… I let her down” he choked out. “I let you all down. What kind of leader am I?”

“Zack, we’re not in Manticore anymore” argued Alec. “We don’t have to worry about them again, let it go.” He walked over and sat with the other two. “I know I’m not a part of your official family but I am one of you. We can start a new life now Zack, none of us have to look over our shoulders anymore.”

“Besides” smiled Maxie, “we have a lot of people to look out for now. Somebody’s got to keep them in line.”

Maria and the others quietly let themselves out, they knew it was time for the transgenics to have alone time, Liz would come back in time and they all needed family time. Logan walked into the room he and Maxie were sharing and softly shut the door, leaving the three alone in the living room.

“She hates me” sighed Zack.

“She doesn’t hate you Zack, she’s just had a lot of shit to deal with lately and she’s had to repress a lot, just give her time.” Alec walked into the kitchen and grabbed three beers before walking back into the living room. He handed the other two theirs before plopping back down on the couch and cracking it open.

“We just have to give her time, we’ll probably be in her place at different times” shrugged Maxie. “It’s just how we are, no one else on the planet can begin to understand what we go through and that’s a lot to deal with. Everyone deals in their own way with what they’re handed, the four of us just happen to bottle it all inside, it’s in our nature. She’ll come around.” She sat back to next to her brother and Alec, slowly sipping at her drink. The three sat there in silence, different thoughts running through each head.

~*~*~*~*~*~

I will dedicate
And sacrifice my everything for just a second's worth
Of how my story's ending
And I wish I could know if the directions that I take
And all the choices that I make won't end up all for nothing

Liz drove, she drove until late afternoon and then she stopped, knowing that she was already farther away than she needed to be. She drove off the rode and dropped the kickstand on her bike and walked a few feet away out into the desert. Dropping to her knees she screamed. She screamed until her voice was hoarse, and then she tried to keep screaming. She screamed for Eva and Tinga, Ben and Brin. Her family was being picked off one by one and now this new threat loomed before them and she just didn’t know if she had strength left to fight.

Show me what it's for
Make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer
Is there something more than what i've been handed?
I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer

She knew she shouldn’t have said those things to Zack, knew he did what he thought he had to, and she also knew there was no way he could’ve known she was inside. Then Liz felt the tears come, coursing down her face and the faster she tried to wipe them away, the faster they came. She wanted it all to just end. Manticore was gone, she was happy so why did this bastard have to mess everything up for her. She wanted to live in peace, she didn’t want anything to do with her soldier training but she knew if it came down to it, her and her family would fight… she would fight. Liz would fight and kill every single bastard that got in her way. They had been through so much; never had a childhood, hell didn’t have much in the way of a normal teenage life. Their lives had been guns and training, beatings and Psyops, that wasn’t the life for children; what right did those scientists have to play God; what right did Lydecker?

Help me carry on
Assure me it's ok to use my heart and not my eyes
To navigate the darkness
Will the ending be ever coming suddenly?
Will I ever get to see the ending to my story?

She dropped backwards, laying on the hard ground as she watched the sky darken and the stars begin to come out. It was times like these that she remembered that night and being free to look at the stars uninhibited; before the gunfire started. She looked up at the night sky and knew she was a part of something more, that there was more to life than what she had now and she would fight for it. She would work with Lydecker, sure she would beat the shit out of him first… it was the principle of the thing. Then she would do what needed to be done to ensure her family’s safety. She may not want to be a soldier but it was a part of her and she knew how much damage she could do. She was done running. She, Zack, Maxie, Alec and whoever else they had to call in would take out the bad guys and live their lives the way they wanted, without any interference.

How much further do I have to go?
How much longer until I finally know?
Because I'm looking and I just can't see what's in front of me
In front of me

She stood, brushing off the dirt and wiping away the tear tracks before walking back to her bike. She straddled it, shooting one last glance at the night sky as she gunned the engine. She turned the bike away and sped off, kicking up dust as she drove back to Roswell; back to her family, and back to her life.

Show me what it's for
Make me understand it
I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer
Is there something more than what i've been handed?
I've been crawling in the dark looking for the answer

~*~*~*~*~*~

When she arrived home she climbed back up the fire escape and slid into her room, she tossed her jacket on her bed before making her way into the living room. She found Zack, Maxie and Alec quietly talking and drinking beers, they had quite the pyramid started when she grabbed one and joined them. She looked at Zack as their eyes all turned to hers. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.

“It’s okay… things are weird but we’re good,” he replied taking another swig of his beer before standing and grabbing her in a hug. “I’m here for you now, I won’t let anything else happen to you.”

“I know,” she whispered. “But there’s also things that I will have to deal with on my own.”

“What are you talking about Kat?” asked Maxie confused. “I don’t know, I just have a feeling that all of this isn’t as over as we thought it was.” She sat back next to Alec, “But we’ll take this one day at a time.”

The four stayed up talking the rest of the night and building their pyramid, which stretched half of the room and almost to the ceiling by morning when Liz's friends came in. They found the four sprawled out around the room laughing and talking and they all stared in shock at all the beer cans. The girls were supposed to spend the day here, getting ready for prom that night and the Alec was going to Michael’s to get ready. Zack, Maxie and Logan were going to see what they could dig up on Lydecker’s business and just what exactly was going on.

“Are you guys okay?” asked Kyle, stepping over a pillow as he walked further into the room.

“Yeah, we’re good,” shrugged Liz. “Why wouldn’t we be?” She looked around the room when the others all looked pointedly at the pyramid. “Oh… high metabolism breaks down the alcohol, remember?”

“Yes, but you said that you got drunk before,” reminded Max.

“Ahh, yes, but that was a lot of alcohol within like two hours… this was more spaced out… we were drinking in small doses. So you guys gonna help us clean up?” She smiled brightly at her friends as they all groaned but moved to help.

A/N: So here it is... kind of... So I'm just gonna go run and uh... hide!

CH 15

Liz looked at herself in the mirror; she couldn’t believe she was going to her prom. After everything that she had gone through, she had made it this far and that amazed her more than anything else she had seen in her life. She looked at the other girls, after helping with the cleanup of up her, Zack, Maxie and Alec’s mess they had retreated to her room and bathroom to get ready. The friends that loved her regardless of knowing what she was, she loved them all and tonight they all looked so beautiful. She knew tonight was going to be amazing and she couldn’t wait.

“What time are the guys getting here again?” asked Tess from the bathroom.

“Five minutes,” called Isabel as she walked back from the kitchen, she had gone in there in search of non alcoholic drinks and returned with four mountain dews and Tabasco for her and Tess. The bell dinged throughout the apartment.

“They’re early,” muttered Liz as she hollered for them to come in. “All right, time for you all to make your grand entrances,” she smiled at the girls.

“You’re making a grand entrance too you know,” said Tess as Maria walked out first, smirking at the look on Michael’s face.

“It’s just Alec,” shrugged Liz, “he’s doing this as a favor to me… he’s a good friend.” She watched Isabel walk out to Alex and smiled at her friends.

“Uh huh, whatever you have to tell yourself Liz, but don’t delude yourself to long, somebody else might snatch him up.” Tess turned and walked towards Kyle as Liz took a moment to think over what she had said… was there more between she and Alec than friendship. She smirked to herself as she shook off the thought, it was crazy. She looked at her friends fondly as they all stood together, waiting for her to come out.

They were happy and together and it would break her heart to leave them but it had to be done… at least she would see them again. Liz pushed away the dark thoughts and squared her shoulders as she walked out her door and down the hallway. Her breath was nearly taken away when she saw Alec standing there awkwardly in his suit. He looked like a god, beautiful, she had never realized just how gorgeous he really was until this moment and she thought there might be more to what Tess had been saying. She was so caught up in her musings that she failed to notice everyone else stop and stare at her.

The guys couldn’t believe how beautiful she looked, sure she was gorgeous but now, she looked radiant and they couldn’t believe they were looking at the same girl they had just about grown up with. Max felt a familiar twinge at once again realizing that she wasn’t his, but he was happy for her, and he would deal… in time he would be okay.

Alec couldn’t take his eyes off her, gulping as she walked slowly towards him; she was breathtaking not only in the dress but all of her, the entire package. He couldn’t believe she would be on his arm tonight; he grimaced as he realized how hard it would be to stay on good behavior tonight. “Hey,” he said softly as she reached him.

“Hey,” she replied just as softly. She looked up at him when he took her small hand in his own larger one. Liz locked gazes with him as he slid something around her wrist and when she looked back down she felt tears prick her eyes at the sight of a white corsage. He didn’t have to get her one, she was just happy to be going, but he had thought of it regardless.

Tess smiled as she traded glances with the other girls at the interaction and chemistry between Liz and Alec. She cleared her throat to get their attention before addressing everyone. “So, are we ready to go party at prom?” she asked giddily.

A chorus of ‘yeahs’ and whoops filled the air as the group headed downstairs. They all piled into the limo that awaited them and before they knew it they had arrived. The drive had been filled with laughter and stories but now they were ready to party.

Alec held out his arm and Liz gratefully took it, linking the two of them together as they followed the others inside. Gasps echoed around the room, it didn’t surprise Liz, she had been gone for almost a year and now turned up looking very different and with a guy like Alec on her arm… of course there were gasps. She just wished that people would mind their own business. The nine friends made their way over to a table and put their stuff down. Liz and the other girls immediately jumped on the dance floor while the guys sat back and watched.

Automatic supersonic hypnotic funky fresh,
Work my body so melodic,
This beat flows right through my chest,
Everybody ma and pappi came to party,
Grab somebody, work your body, work your body,
Let me see you 1,2 step

The girls moved together out on the dance floor, drawing the attention of most of the other students, especially Liz. She was acting differently and dressed differently than any of them had ever seen her, and this was the first and probably last time she would be seen by them again, they were all shocked to see her back, no one really knew what happened to her. The most logical choice of rumors was the boarding school one, but there had been a lot of other ones that were out there. The crowd basically parted, giving the group room to dance without any interference. The girls were all laughing and having fun as they bumped hips and waved their arms in the air just moving to the music and having fun.

Rock it, don't stop it,
Everybody get on the floor,
Wake the party up,
We about to get it on,
(Let me see ya'll) 1,2 step,
(I love it when ya'll) 1,2 step
(Everybody) 1,2 step,
We about to get it on,
This beat is

Liz looked over at the table smiling at Alec, but her smile faltered as she watched Vicky Delaney approach him. She felt her blood heating up as the girl obviously flirted with him. Alec’s only saving grace was that he had the decency to look uncomfortable; all the other guys did as well. She stormed over, every fiber of her being screaming out that he was hers, she didn’t know what was coming over her but her instincts were screaming for her to take care of Vicky. She walked up in time to Alec really protesting dancing with Vicky, saying his girlfriend wouldn’t like it.

“I don’t think your girlfriend would mind,” whined Vicky. “Anyways I can take care of you so much better than she could.” She fluttered her eyelashes and leaned towards him, her boobs almost spilling out of her dress. She obviously hadn’t been here when the group walked in and her boobs must be interfering with her ears hearing the gossip, because Liz and the ‘hunky blonde’ were all anyone could talk about.

Alec looked up relieved when he saw Liz; he jumped up and wrapped his arms around her from behind pulling her back against his chest. It was a move as much to shield him as to keep Liz from ripping this girl in front of them apart. Liz looked up at him scowling slightly and he mock scowled back before a lazy smile spread across his face. “Hey baby, having fun?”

Vicky took a step back; she hadn’t realized Liz was back… or that this blonde god was hers. The look on his face when he looked down at Liz was one of sheer adoration. She glanced at Liz who was currently shooting glares at her that clearly read ‘back off!’ She realized she didn’t have a chance with this guy so she slowly turned and walked away before she got hurt.

Spend all your time waiting
for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always one reason
to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction
oh beautiful release
memory seeps from my veins
let me be empty
and weightless and maybe
I'll find some peace tonight

Alec turned Liz in his arms and pulled her out on the dance floor as a slow song started. “Thanks for coming to defend my honor,” he smirked as he pulled her reluctant body against his. He could feel the tenseness in her and knew it was a good thing that girl left when she did. Transgenics were very territorial and although he and Liz weren’t together that way, he was still her best friend and Liz was still an alpha female… things would have gotten ugly.

“She had no right,” snarled Liz, looking up at Alec when she felt his hand cup her chin and pull her gaze to his.

“It’s okay,” he soothed, “everything’s okay now.” He rested his chin on the top of her head as she finally relaxed and leaned into him. He looked around and noticed the other couples of the group gathered around them. He glanced up and saw Max staring at them with sad eyes but he knew the boy was just remembering. He felt everyone’s eyes on them and shrugged off the uncomfortable feeling of being under the microscope.

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there

“Alec,” whispered Liz, not moving her head, knowing he could hear her perfectly with their enhanced hearing.

“Hmm?” he questioned, drawing lazy patterns on her back.

“I always felt like you were my sole savior in Manticore… you kept me sane and were there for me when no one else was. You didn’t have to become my friend; you could’ve hated me like everyone else.”

“My pleasure,” he whispered back as they continued to sway softly

“Alec,” she whispered again.

“Yeah,” he smiled softly at her even though she couldn’t see.

“You’re my angel; you’re the only one who hasn’t abandoned me in some way. You’re my guardian angel.” She shifted slightly and wrapped her arms around him tighter, never noticing the tears that pricked his eyes.

so tired of the straight line
and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
and the storm keeps on twisting
you keep on building the lie
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference
escaping one last time
it's easier to believe in this sweet madness oh
this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

in the arms of an angel
fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room
and the endlessness that you fear
you are pulled from the wreckage
of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort there
you're in the arms of the angel
may you find some comfort here

The friends continued to dance and have fun until it was time to go. They were all going to head back to the Crashdown and spend the rest of the night hanging out with Zack, Maxie and Logan. They walked in laughing and having a good time as Logan and the others closed up shop in front of the computers and came to join them. Liz and Maria walked into the back room, returning a few minutes later with ice cream and spoons. Isabel had pulled out one of her mix cd’s and started playing it with her powers. All the girls removed their shoes and took their hair down while the guys took off their coats and ties and un-tucked their shirts, kicking their shoes off as well.

“So, did you guys have fun tonight?” asked Maxie.

“Oh yeah, especially when Liz almost ripped apart Vicky Delaney for flirting with Alec,” exclaimed Maria, ice cream half way to her mouth.

Maxie and Zack both turned and arched their brows at their little sister. “Really?” asked Maxie.

“I don’t know what came over me… I just saw red and he was my date,” she justified, fanning herself as she looked around the room. “Is it hot in here or is just me?” she asked.

“No, it’s fine… Liz are you okay?” asked Alex hesitantly.

“Yeah, I’m good,” she replied looking over at him, she did a double take for a second before shaking herself out of it.

“Are you sure?” asked Zack, she turned to Zack. Zack was a beautiful man, Manticore, as whacked as they had been, had really known what they were doing when they made him. Liz licked her lips as she looked at Zack, he was gorgeous and he was an alpha male. Before the others could react she had pounced on him. “Shit!” exclaimed Zack as he pushed Liz off of him.

“What the hell is she doing?” exclaimed Tess.

“She’s going into heat,” shouted Maxie trying to get to her sister. A blur rushed past her as Alec slammed Zack against the wall. His eyes were cold as he snarled, holding Zack in place who didn’t try to fight at all.

“She’s mine,” he growled.

Liz came up behind him, wrapping her arms around him as she did so. “Yours huh?” she purred, turning his face to hers and kissing him deeply. Maxie took that as her opportunity to step between Zack and Alec.

“Get off him, Alec,” she warned, startled when Liz grabbed her and pulled her away. She was flung into a table as her sister glared down at her, she had never experienced another females heat... only her own. She didn’t know what it was like to have an alpha female stake her claim this way.

“He’s mine,” she hissed.

“Stay out of it Maxie, bow away from her,” came Zack’s strangled warning. He locked gazes with Alec before bowing his head, acknowledging that Liz was Alec’s. Alec dropped him and he rubbed his throat as he watched Alec grab Liz and the two took off upstairs, wrapped up in each other.

“What the hell was that?” repeated Tess.

Maxie and Zack looked at each other before glancing upstairs. “Okay, but quickly, we need to get out of here as soon as possible. Kat is going into heat, probably why she almost ripped apart that girl at prom. Alec and Zack are the two alpha males Kat and I are alpha females. Liz was looking for the strongest and the one who would claim her; she smelled Zack first and went after him. Alec saw his mate, so to speak, being taken and he reacted, Zack had to bow out from the competition as did I when Kat came after me. Now if we don’t get out of here they’ll smell us and come back down here, “explained Maxie in a rush.

“You guys can crash at my apartment tonight,” offered Michael.

“Thanks man, Logan we don’t have time, leave it… we have to go now!” The group of friends hurried out, Max stopping and sealing the doors so no one else could get in, just in case.

Maxie turned and looked up at her sister’s balcony. She hoped things didn’t end to badly between them; this was going to change everything.

A/N: I'm sorry it took so long guys. The issues I've been having lately have been insane! First school/work has been crazy, then car troubles, comp. troubles and then finally, the router died, so I had no internet! MADNESS I say! Anyways, please be kind as this is my first time writing this. Hope you enjoy what you've all been waiting for!

CH 16

They had amazingly, made it upstairs, their lips latched on to each others. Hands groping trying to get any amount of flesh they could. They had slammed into a few walls, even fallen on the floor in their haste to reach Liz’s room. They were so consumed with one another, feeling everything, magnified. Everywhere they touched left them panting for the other, desire was being stoked in their souls and they were feeding it with every passing second.

Liz felt like she was on fire. Every inch of her skin was going up in flames as Alec kissed her. His tongue delved deep into her mouth, tangling with her own. His hands caressed every inch of skin he could reach. Her hands weren’t idle either; one was buried in his thick dark blonde hair as the other slid up under his shirt, feeling the warm, smooth skin that encased his hard muscles. She groaned as he took his lips away from her own but let out a low throaty moan as he began nipping at her neck, pausing to pay special attention to her pulse point. He laved the area with his tongue as he ran his hands up and down her bare back.

Alec moved his talented mouth to the base of her neck, the hollow where her collarbone was sent an especially delicious shiver down her spine. She pushed his dress shirt off his shoulders, realizing they were both still dressed in their formal wear as they attacked each other mercilessly. “Alec,” breathed Liz, tilting her head back to allow him better access. “Alec,” she repeated pulling his head away from her neck to look him in the eye. Both sets of eyes were black as night with their lust for each other. “I want you,” she whispered.

Alec looked at her, knowing in the back of his mind that this was wrong, but he was to overcome by lust, by her scent, to stop. He leaned back in and kissed her slow and languid until she melted into his embrace. He ran his hands back up her smooth skin to the straps on her dress; slowly pulling them down on each side he rid her of the garment, his gaze taking in her naked form for the first time. “No underwear?” he panted hoarsely, eyes raking over her glorious body.

“I can’t in this dress,” Liz smirked, nipping at his chin. “See something you like?” she asked rubbing against him seductively. Purring in delight as his hands cupped her ass, pulling her closer to his hard body.

“Oh yeah,” Alec growled, claiming her lips once more in a passionate kiss. His hands caressed her shoulders, kneading the tense muscles before sliding down and cupping a soft breast in each palm. He smiled in satisfaction when she groaned her approval as he circled a taunt nipple between his fingers. He continued his way south with one hand, grasping her hip and pulling her towards him, letting her feel the evidence of his arousal.

“You’re wearing to many clothes,” Liz gasped, pulling away from his embrace only long enough to rip his shirt down the middle. Seeing his chest bared to her, no restrictions from touching the perfect skin, she ran a hand up from his waist, trailing feather light touches over his well defined six pack, giggling to herself when his stomach muscles flexed in response. She had forgotten how ticklish he was, so caught up in her haze of lust.

Liz continued running her hand over his beautiful body until she reached his pecks, looking up into his eyes she smiled mischievously before leaning down and biting onto a hardened nipple hearing him suck in a breath in response. Liz pulled back before leaning down and blowing a cool stream of air onto it, watching it harden even more. She laved it gently with her tongue before switching and giving equal attention to its twin.

Standing and pushing against his chest Liz walked Alec backwards until his knees buckled when they reached her bed. Instead of him simply falling he latched his hand onto her arm and pulled her down with him, both groaning when her hips rolled against his still covered cock.

Alec leaned up on his elbows, kissing Liz deeply, thrusting his tongue in and out of her mouth teasing her and testing her. Slow kisses would turn into rough, the two of them fighting for dominance until finally he flipped her over. Resting his weight comfortably on top of her, Alec leaned in kissing her forehead before moving to her eyelids, nose, cheeks and lips before pulling back, he groaned as she bucked up into him. Staring at her lips, Alec kissed a trail down her body, stopping to pay special attention to her breasts, hearing her moan his name did wonders for his ego as she writhed beneath him. When he reached the apex of her thighs he gently spread her legs his heightened senses were assaulted with her smell and he immediately plunged one finger into her waiting depths.

Liz arched her back up off the bed as she whimpered out his name. Alec thought she had never been more beautiful than at this point in time; her legs spread for him, body flushed, panting his name out of those sweet, sexy, bruised from his kisses, lips.

Alec plunged another finger into her, relishing how tight she was and wishing he were already buried inside of her. He lowered his head after glancing at her one last time, her head was flung backwards, hair strewn all over the pillow and her eyes were clamped tightly shut. Alec's mind reeled at the taste of her… he knew he would never be able to get enough of her. He slowly lapped at her, tasting her sweetness.

Liz's hands were fisted in his air, pushing her hips up into him, trying to get as close to him as she could. He sunk his splayed fingers into her hip to keep her still, relishing the feeling of her wrapped around him like this, physically begging for his touch

“Alec,” she gasped, clutching the sheets tightly in her fist. She had never felt this much pleasure. Liz could feel herself coiling, her muscles tensing as he used his glorious fingers and mouth to bring her to new heights. She knew what was coming and if his fingers were any indication of what he had left to offer she would be one happy woman.

A nagging voice in the back of her mind knew she shouldn’t be doing this but she couldn’t stop herself, she was too far gone to care right now. “Oh God, Alec!” Liz screamed before slumping down on the bed. She looked up at him as he slowly crawled back up her body. “That was incredible,” she whispered, leaning up to kiss him and tasting herself on his lips.

Breaking the kiss he looked down at her, panting with barely suppressed lust. “It was my pleasure.” He smirked as she automatically reached for his pants. “In a hurry?”

“I want you, I need you now!” Liz rid Alec of his pants and stared at his erect cock in awe. She softly stroked him, feeling pleased with herself at his hiss of satisfaction. She led him to her waiting depths, cradling his body between her thighs. She wasn’t sure how she was forming a coherent thought let alone keeping up with him and what he was doing to her body. Liz knew that he could stop the ache building once more inside of her. She heard him calling her name and looked up into his eyes; those beautiful hazel eyes that she loved so much. Liz's mouth dropped open in a silent gasp as he suddenly thrust into her. The intrusion took her off guard for a moment and she was grateful when he paused to let her adjust but soon they were rocking together like they had been making love for years.

“Oh God, Kat,” hissed Alec through gritted teeth. He could feel her nails raking up and down his back and felt the pain mutate into pleasure. Knowing she would leave marks on him, as if she was leaving physical marks that he was hers, spurred him on even more. He began pounding into her frantically, the primal blood pumping through his veins directing every move. He was so close; the added effect of the pheromones was driving him crazy.

Alec wouldn’t come without her though, so he slid his hand beneath their bodies and found her clit with his fingers. Pinching it roughly he felt her come apart in his arms, himself following soon after. He collapsed on top of her and once they got their breath back they shot apart, looking at each other in horror at the realization of what they had just done.

“Oh my God,” shuddered Liz. “I think I’m going to be sick.” She ran into her bathroom followed by Alec who she was grateful had the decency to put his pants back on. She bent over the toilet, retching, emptying her stomach of all its contents. Standing she wiped her mouth and threw on her robe, tying it tightly across her waist before turning and pinning Alec with an accusing glare. “How could you do this?”

Alec’s mouth dropped open in shock, “Me? It wasn’t completely my fault, you went into heat,” he challenged.

“You should’ve stayed away from me as soon as you realized it,” she protested. “I told you! I told you back in Manticore that I always went to the desert, you should’ve had at least Maxie take me out to the desert… then this wouldn’t have happened.”

“Kat,” he tried to reach out and pull her into his arms but she shrugged him off and moved to the other side of the room. Alec sighed, rubbing his face in frustration. “It’s not exactly like we had time to do that, before I knew it we were up here making out! The only thing I remember is feeling threatened by Zack,” he shrugged his shoulders helplessly at her disbelieving look. He knew what she was thinking, how could he feel threatened by her older brother.

“You should’ve stopped it,” she cried, Liz could feel tears coming to her eyes as realization sunk in that she had just given the most precious thing of hers to Alec. He was her best friend and might have been more but she couldn’t deal with that right now. “Alec,” Liz whispered. “I was a virgin, nothing changed since Manticore and now, now it’s gone,” she sighed sadly.

“What do you want me to do Kat? What can I do to make it better?” Alec wanted to take the pain out of her eyes, anything to take the pain out of her eyes. Yes, it stung him that she was reacting like this to him, but he could see where she was coming from. She was shocked and confused and hurt, but understanding didn’t stop her words from hurting like hell.

“It’s not like I wanted this to happen!” he shouted, his anger at the situation getting the better of him. He understood the look on her face and snapped. “How can you think it meant nothing to me? That it was just some roll in the hay fuck, courtesy of Manticore genetics!”

Liz flinched back as if she’d been struck. Her face hardened. “I need you to go,” she whispered, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Alec mentally cursed himself for losing his temper. “Kat,” he protested weakly, “please… don’t.”

“You asked me what I needed, and this is it… I need time to sort things out. I need time to deal, to clear my head. Can you accept that?”

“I said anything,” Alec sighed before picking up his dress shirt since his undershirt was ruined. He crouched through the window and went to go down the fire escape but something stopped him, he turned back to look at her as she was stripping the sheets from her bed. “I’m sorry,” he whispered before crossing the balcony and going down the ladder. He walked over to where his bike was parked and drove off into the desert to think and clear his head as well.

Liz finished stripping her bed before picking up Alec’s ruined shirt; she held it to her, sobs working their way out of her throat as she was overcome by his scent. She mechanically walked over to her closet, pulling out a pair of black jeans and a black wifebeater. She walked out onto her balcony and jumped to the roof. Normally her balcony would be enough but she couldn’t handle being enclosed next to the building next door right now. Liz breathed in the clean air as her system finally began dealing with everything that had happened.

She had slept with Alec, well fucked to be more exact. She had lost her virginity when she fucked Alec. Liz couldn’t even begin to comprehend how to deal with this. Sure he was her best friend, but she had gone into heat and now all that was probably down the drain.

It was times like these that she really hated Manticore. Sometimes she thought it would be better if she had never been made. Liz looked down at the still street below her, she wasn’t nearly as high as she’d like to be, for some reason being up high seemed to put all her problems into perspective. She didn’t know how she was going to get out of this. Liz felt bad for yelling at him like that, he hadn’t meant to do it, it was a part of their genes… search out the alpha male or female and do your thing.

It’s not like those monsters had encouraged in unit dating. She loved Alec she knew she did. Liz had been denying it to herself for a long time, scared of being hurt again, scared of losing him the way she did members of her family. Liz was scared of getting close and now look where it had landed her, in more trouble and pain than she had ever imagined.

Nothing Manticore could have cooked up for torture could rival the pain in her heart right now. Liz had just let the one good thing she had walk away from her because she was to stupid, emotional and selfish to realize it. She just wanted to go back to the beginning of the night everything had been so perfect then.

Liz heard a commotion carry on the wind and turned her head to see what it was. Scanning the area she honed her ears and her eyes dilated as she tried to figure out what she was hearing. She finally spotted it and felt her heart stop.

Alec was lying on the ground a few feet away from his bike, a man was standing over him with a gun and two others were walking up with restraints. Liz wanted to run, scream, do something but she knew she would never reach him in time, no matter how advanced she was and they wouldn’t hear her anyway. She watched in horror as they loaded him up in a black SUV and drive away. Her eyes may have been good but they weren’t good enough to get the tag, it had probably been a rental anyways. That pain she had been feeling just got worse, Alec had been taken.

~*~*~*~*~*~

“Hello?” asked Zack sleepily as he rolled over to look at the clock. Not that it really bothered him because of the not needing sleep thing but who would be calling him at four a.m.

“Zack?” came Liz’s hysterical voice from the other end.

“Kat?” he asked, all vestiges of sleep vanished instantly. “What is it what’s wrong?” his tone alerted Maxie who came creeping out of the guest room while Michael walked sleepily out of his room.

“What is it?” they asked.

“It’s Kat; she sounds like she’s in trouble.” Zack's game face slid on as he continued to listen to his baby sister, Logan woke up as well and joined them, and all three were looking at him concerned. He hung up the phone after promising to come straight over as fast as he could. “Get dressed,” he ordered, throwing down the phone and pulling his pants back on over his boxers. “That’s an order, soldier,” he scolded Maxie, only to get her moving.

“What’s going on Zack?” asked Logan, he had just returned from throwing on his pants and shirt.

“Wait for Maxie and Michael to get back out here,” Zack sighed rubbing his hands together. Kat had been really messed up on the phone. This was going to be bad. When Maxie and Michael walked back out he sat them down on the couch.

“Michael,” he glanced sharply at the man before him. “Call the others tell them to meet at the Crashdown A.S.A.P! Logan get in touch with Lydecker, now! I don’t care how you have to do it, just make sure he gets here A.S.A.P as well.”

“Zack, what is it?” stressed Maxie.

“Alec’s been taken. I don’t know what went down over there earlier but something bad happened and Alec left to clear his head. Kat caught the sound of a struggle on the wind and when she looked over and zoned in Alec was being loaded up either unconscious or…” Zack trailed off because he didn’t want to say it, saying it made it even more of a possibility. “Let’s move,” he ordered. The four walked out of the apartment, Michael already on the phone with the others. Everyone was gathered at the Crashdown ten minutes later.

Tess led the group inside the apartment finding Maxie, Logan and Michael already sitting on the couch. “Where’s Zack, Liz, and Alec?” she asked feeling anxiety sweep through her system as the three on the couch traded guarded glances.

“Guys?” asked Alex, “where are they?”

“Zack’s with Kat on her balcony,” answered Maxie slowly. “And Alec’s been taken by someone… probably the new bad guy.”

As one every face paled at the news. Isabel finally cleared her throat, “Is it uhh… safe for Kat and Zack to be alone?”

“Yeah,” sighed Maxie. “What’s done is done from what I can tell, she’s safe.”

“What do you mean?” asked Max. He watched her touch her nose and sniff slightly, confusion must have been clearly written on his face because Logan gave him a better answer, still vague enough to not be crude.

“She can smell Kat and Alec,” he whispered. He felt bad seeing the slight twinge of pain flash across the boys face but it was time to face facts. He watched them all sit down around the room everyone was preparing themselves to wait out whatever was going on. They were all startled when the door swung open and a man with graying hair and dressed in all black walked in.

“Lydecker,” growled Maxie.

~*~*~*~*~*

“He’s gone Zack,” cried Liz as her big brother slowly rocked her in his arms. “I messed things up so badly after… and now he’s been taken, God I don’t even know if he’s alive!”

“We’ll get him back Kat, I swear. Logan’s trying to get in touch with Lydecker and we’ll go from there.” He let her go as she pulled away from him to pace, head tilted up as she smelled the rain coming.

“Zack, I love him,” she whispered quietly, “I love him and he doesn’t even know.”

“You’ll get the chance to tell him Kat,” Zack wiped the water out of his eyes as he watched her, watch her slowly become who she was born to be. It took eighteen years and so much pain but she was finally allowing herself to be. He felt his heart break as resolved as she was, she was still shutting down, going into soldier mode.

The clouds broke overhead and rain poured down on them both; Liz slicked her hair back as she felt the rain wash away all her pain. “I have to get him back. I’ll do anything to get him back,” she vowed. “No more running. These guys want a war; we’ll give them a war.”

Liz threw her arms out and glared up at the sky as if flinging her challenge out to the far reaches of the world. “You hear that?” she screamed. “I’ll fight you to the very end, I’m coming for him!” She looked back at Zack, “Let’s go,” she climbed back inside and walked into the living room.

Everyone was there plus one extra person. “Lydecker,” Liz snarled. Before anyone could react she blurred over to him and elbowed him in the face before grabbing his arm and twisting it behind his back. She kicked him in the back of the knee and brought him crashing to the ground, placing her foot there to hold him down. “What do you know?” she hissed.

“Kat,” reasoned Maxie. “I know you hate him, we all do, but this isn’t the way to get Alec back.” She looked at her sister for the first time since this all happened and saw the change in her. The fierce protectiveness for her mate and family and the eerie calm that had come over her. She sighed as Kat released Lydecker and came to sit next to her. This was going to be a long night.

A/N: Hey guys, thank you so much for all the amazing feedback! Don't worry as I said before, my xtremer heart remains true so Alec and Liz will be reunited shortly. But before that, here's another flashback. There's a little bit of 'Berrisford Agenda' in it, but it mainly plays along as my version, no infringement!

Alrighty guys, I hope you enjoy this! And thanks again for all the wonderful feedback!

CH. 17

I cannot take this anymore
I'm saying everything I've said before
All these words they make no sense
I find bliss in ignorance
Less I hear the less you'll say
But you'll find that out anyway

Liz had been asleep again when they came for her. They had grabbed her, one at her head and one at her feet, physically carrying her to the lab. She had struggled of course but they just gripped her harder, squeezing her already battered body.

She was so tired, she just wanted to sleep, but that was impossible here and now because all they were concerned about was how to torture her more. She was strapped down to a table and wondered what it would be this time, more tests or another attempt at reindoctrination.

Before the drugs kicked in Liz glared hatefully at the doctors standing over her and from the corner of her eye, saw Renfro leaning casually against the wall, calmly drinking out of a mug. She woke a few hours later, groggy and her body convulsing. “NOOO!” she screamed as another wave of pain engulfed her body.

Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
I need a little room to breathe
Cause I'm one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

“Get up 254, you’re moving!” shouted the guard, banging on her door.

“What are you talking about?” Liz asked, stepping out into the hallway. She was flanked on either side by guards as they started moving her down the hallway.

“Director Renfro’s orders, all breeding partners are being bunked together. Since you were in a holding cell, you’re being moved to 494’s quarters,” answered the guard.

Liz continued walking through a maze of corridors until they arrived before a normal looking door, normal looking opposed to the steel door with a small window that she was used to. The door swung open and she saw Alec sitting at a small table. He turned towards them and nodded, acknowledging her and dismissing the guards. Once they were alone Liz turned on him. “What the hell is going on?” she asked in disbelief.

“Renfro decided that all breeding partners should live together to encourage more copulation. As for us, at least this means we can watch out for each other.” Alec paused shifting uncomfortably.

“What?” asked Liz; she turned looking around the small quarters. There wasn’t much in the way of comfort, not that she figured Manticore really cared about that. It was sterile, but it was what Alec called home. There was a bed against one wall and an adjoining room that she figured was the bathroom. A small dresser stood against the other wall that housed the small table he was currently sitting at. The wall opposite the main door held nothing but a sole window. She finished her perusal of the room and looked back at Alec. “What is it?”

“As you can see there is only one bed… that means we have to share.” Alec looked down before rushing on. “By the way, clothes for you have been added to the dresser and toiletries to the bathroom.” He looked back at her, hoping she wouldn’t argue the idea of sharing a bed with him. They had grown closer but he wasn’t sure how she would react to this news.

“This is a lot nicer, than the holding cell they had me in,” Liz smiled softly at him, reassuring him that this was okay. They weren’t in the ideal of situations, so they had to make do with what they were given. “If we don’t have to report today then I suggest we get some rest, I want to show you something tonight.”

“No orders today, I guess they want to give everyone the chance to umm…” Alec trailed off smirking slightly.

“You can say it, geez! Renfro wants everyone to fuck their brains out until the females get pregnant.”

"Well, a little time with me and you're corrupted already, God I'm a great influence!"

Liz walked over to the bed and lay down, patting the area next to her for Alec to come lay down as well. He hesitantly joined her and they slept for a few hours before Liz woke and looked outside, it was dark… perfect.

Liz nudged him awake and pointed to the window, “Come on,” she smiled. She jammed the window open before sliding out on the ledge, Alec followed her, looking around carefully to ensure no one saw them. He glanced up and saw her climbing carefully up a drainage pipe.

“Where are you going?” Alec hissed.

“Just come on, I want you to see something.” Liz continued to climb, hearing Alec following her until she reached the roof and swung herself over the ledge. Landing firmly she pulled him up after her. Looking around she breathed in the crisp, almost spring air. She smiled waving her hand around at their surroundings.

“So, it’s the roof. What’s so great about a roof?” asked Alec, clearly confused as to why they were there.

“This isn’t just a roof, this is the ‘high place’,” explained Liz. She pulled Alec over to sit on one of the air ducts with her before she looked at him again.

“When we were younger, before the escape, we would climb up here. Everything felt like it was put into perspective up here and Ben would tell us about the Blue Lady, stories he made up to explain the things we didn't understand and give us hope. Ben told us if we had faith in her she would protect us. We would bring her different offerings, showing her we were good soldiers. This place was our freedom before the escape.” Liz trailed off sadly and looked up sharply when she felt Alec wipe a tear she hadn’t realized had fallen, away.

“How can you stand to be around me?” Alec asked not meeting Liz's eyes.

“What do you mean?” asked Liz confused. She took his hand in her own he was shaking.

Alec's eyes shot up to Liz's chocolate orbs at the familiar contact of her hand. “I mean I’m Ben’s genetic twin. I look just like him… the way you talk about your family… what happened to Ben, how can you stand to be around me? I must remind you of him everyday, wearing his face, I mean for God’s sake, we’re breeding partners!” he exclaimed. Alec stood and began pacing, his head hung down sadly. “You don’t deserve to be here, with me… you deserve to be back out there, in the real world.” He stopped when Liz stepped before him, halting his steps.

“You know for someone who was so against the real world when I first met him, you’re preaching a lot lately about being out there,” Liz smirked at him before sobering. “ Alec, I don’t see Ben when I look at you,” she held her hand up to his lips, stopping him from saying anything. “Sure I did in the beginning, sometimes it was hard to be around you… but you’re you! You’re Alec, not Ben… and I grew to see that. I don’t know what all has happened to you as a result of what he did, but to me, from now on… you’re Alec.” Liz slowly took his hand and led him back over to sit down. They stayed on the roof a little longer, simply sitting in silence, enjoying each other’s company.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Alec stumbled into their room, out of breath and shaking. He collapsed on the bed and looked at Liz with tear filled eyes. She rushed over to him and wrapped her arms around him, tightening her hold when he tried to flinch away.

They had been living together for about a month and a half and this last half Alec had been taken away on assignment. Liz was left alone to train because Renfro didn’t trust her to be let back out on solo missions or co-ops. “Alec, what’s wrong?” she asked, gently stroking his forehead.

I find the answers aren't so clear
Wish I could find a way to disappear
All these thoughts they make no sense
I find bliss in ignorance
Nothing seems to go away
Over and over again

Alec grabbed her hand; gripping hard as he shut down, he knew he had to, to get this story out. “They sent me on a solo assignment,” he said mechanically. “Assassination of one Mr. Robert Berrisford. My cover was as his daughter’s piano teacher, things were going smoothly. Rachel, his daughter befriended me and I slowly began to integrate myself in more and more." Alec made a choking sound as he squeezed harder on Liz's hand.

"Renfro gave me the final part of the assignment, I was supposed to plant a car bomb and both he and his daughter would be killed. So, I planted it, had every intention of going through with it, but I couldn’t do it. Rachel believed in me, she had become the one other friend I had except for you and I couldn’t do that to her, so I told her. She slapped me in horror and ran out to save her father, I was being dragged away by Renfro’s contingency plan when they activated the car bomb from another remote.” Alec stopped talking as Renfro stepped into the room.

“Spilling your deepest, darkest secrets 494?” she asked coldly. Renfro turned and snapped her fingers, two guards entering the room. “Take them to PsyOps, have their memories erased of this assignment. Then place 254 in her own room, they are not to be alone together again.” She stepped back out, relishing the sounds of 254 and 494 struggling.

Everything you say to me
Takes me one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break
I need a little room to breathe
Cause I'm one step closer to the edge
And I'm about to break

CH. 18

“So 494, we finally get to meet,” smirked White as he watched the male transgenic slowly come to.

“I guess you’re the new bad guy coming after Kat and Maxie,” Alec commented as he spat blood out of his mouth. “I figured you’d be taller.”

Alec couldn’t believe he let himself get captured so easily. Then again, his emotions had been completely out of whack. He had been just sitting on his bike out in the desert trying to think of a way to fix things with Kat in any way when he had been jumped. Alec's only regret was leaving her like that, thinking that she didn’t mean anymore to him than a fuck courtesy of Manticore.

Alec looked around his surroundings and found himself in a cage, in a warehouse; from the sounds outside he realized he was back in Seattle. He glared at the man smirking at him. “Can I help you with something or do you just enjoy staring?”

“You’ve got a smart mouth; I hear that’s why 254 named you Alec.”

“You don’t know shit about us,” snarled Alec. “I don’t know what your deal is, but your role is so overdone. The others have been running from people like you for ten years.”

“Ah yes, but Colonel Lydecker just wanted to recapture them… his kids,” spat White derisively. “I have a much better plan, a much more fulfilling one.” He began pacing the room, rubbing his hands together in contemplation. “I am going to eradicate your species 494.” White studied him for a moment. “You don’t know what they are do you?” he asked, amazed at how easy this was going to be.

“What who are?” asked Alec quizzically.

“No matter, just makes my job a hell of a lot easier. We will get what we need from them and then we will eradicate all of you, you won’t even be a stain on the pages of history. It’s a pity actually; you three would have made great additions, if you weren’t freaks.” White turned to leave the room, snapping his fingers the room was plunged into darkness. “Get some rest 494, wouldn’t want you to miss the rescue party.”

Alec sat back, resting his head against the cool bars. There was nothing he could do now, no way of getting out without help. White probably already knew it but Alec had been casing the place, looking for escape routes. There was nothing except for the main door, “Damn it!” he cursed.

Alec slammed his head back and slumped further down. He’d just have to wait until the others came for him. He just prayed they got around whatever White had waiting on them. “Just don’t get hurt Kat, “ Alec prayed. His attention was drawn back to the door as it slid open. Nothing in his training could prepare him for who stood before him. “Dude, you’re dead,” he said in shock.

“Hello, 494,” smirked Renfro; she stepped to the side as a few more men stepped into the room. “Don’t mind me; these boys are just here to have fun.”

Alec watched confused as the door to his cage swung open. He stepped out hesitantly as the three men approached him. “Hey boys, lets not fight… just let me go and everything will be good.” Alec reeled back as the first guy punched him in the face. “Or not,” he grimaced.

That punch had been a lot harder than Alec expected. He watched these guys carefully as they shifted around him; darting in to deliver blows and then darting back out. They weren’t normal and he put his arms up to defend himself but it was too late and it wasn’t enough; they rushed him and proceeded to beat the shit out of him. Alec lay there on the floor what felt like hours later, bruised and battered on the floor when White walked back up.

“You have no idea who you’re dealing with 494,” White spat before walking back to the door and rejoining Renfro. He motioned to the three men to dump the X5 back in his cage before he walked out.

“See now don’t you wish you were still inside Manticore, 494?” asked Renfro snidely. She stepped out of the room after the men, and shut the door, plunging him into darkness.

“Please let Kat be okay,” Alec choked out, gasping as pain racked his body. He fell to the floor and curled up in a ball trying to fall asleep.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz paced back and forth in the living room, prowling like a caged animal. The others all watched her anxiously, unsure if she was going to snap again. Her hair hung down around her face giving her an even more animalistic appearance. Liz snapped her gaze around to glare at Lydecker. “What do you know?” she snarled before pacing again.

Lydecker tried to stand but Zack pushed him back down in his chair. “You’re probably safer keeping your ass right there,” he warned, his face cold.

“His name is Ames White. I did some digging when I found Renfro’s briefcase in his tent. Your files were there, you and 452-“

“My name is Kat and hers is Max,” Liz growled, glaring at him. “You’d do best to remember that!” she snapped.

“As I was saying, through my digging, I found out about this cult… its front is a Demolition and Disposal organization. From what I found out, Manticore was just the tip of the iceberg,” Lydecker warned. “This has been going on for thousands of years, every occurence has the Manticore symbol. It’s a breeding cult,” he explained, throwing pictures down on the table. “They’ve been breeding the best of the best for millennia’s. They have become just as powerful, if not more so than transgenics. A member of the cult began to disagree with what they were trying to achieve-“

“Which is?” asked Maria, she was scared of what was happening. She had never seen Liz like this, so primal… so animal. The others had all shut down as well, she kind of felt sorry for the people that were going up against them.

“I don’t know,” shrugged Lydecker. “But whoever started Manticore was creating his own army to combat this cult.” He sighed before turning his gaze solely upon Max and Kat. “The files on you two, the tests that Renfro ran, they show results unlike anything I’ve ever seen.

Neither one of you showed statistics like this when you were kids. You have abilities that far outreach those of a normal transgenic. I don’t know what exactly is going on, but Renfro is a part of it.”

Maxie snapped her fingers as pieces began to come together. “That’s why she called us the ones!”

“What?” asked Lydecker, looking both confused and extremely interested.

“Renfro, before she took a bullet to the gut for me, she said that Kat and I were the ones. Personally I thought she had seen ‘The Matrix’ one too many times but maybe there was some truth to it.”

“So, this Renfro is dead now because you’re the ones?” questioned Michael.

“Apparently,” shrugged Liz. She had finally stopped pacing and now stood before Lydecker, glaring down at him.

“That’s impossible!” exclaimed Lydecker.

“What? You, yourself just said the two of them were different,” snapped Logan. He was beginning to grow tired of Lydecker no matter how much he had done for them he was still a source of pain for all of Maxie’s family.

“Not that, it’s Renfro… she’s not dead,” he looked at them confused as silence descended on the room. Maxie and Kat traded worried glances.

“NO, you’re lying!” shouted Maxie. “I saw her die with my own eyes.”

“He’s not lying,” said Liz. She studied Lydecker closely for a moment. “I don’t know how she’s alive but I’ve felt it, I knew it wasn’t over.

“Kat, that’s impossible… you know she couldn’t have survived a point blank gunshot wound,” argued Maxie… she didn’t want to acknowledge it. If Renfro was alive then they had more to be worried about than she wanted to think of or go through, not after everything else.

“No, she’s alive, especially if she’s a part of this cult.” Liz began pacing again, her scowl deepening until she put her hand through the wall. Pulling her fist out she began picking pieces of plaster and concrete out of her skin, she never even winced.

“That’s not natural,” breathed Kyle as he stared at her in awe. He mentally reminded himself to never piss her off.

“No, it’s not,” said Zack grimly as he stared at Liz.

“What? I thought you guys were superhuman,” asked Isabel. “Shouldn’t her being able to put her hand through a wall be no big deal?”

“They can’t block physical pain,” explained Lydecker, he stood, no one stopping him this time. “They can push it away for the good of the mission, but they will react to it and it will begin slowing them after a while but this,” he motioned to her complete lack of response. “I’ve never seen anything like this. Do you feel any pain at all?”

Liz looked at him and shook her head. “Renfro’s alive and she took the one thing she knew would make me come after her,” she spat. “She just didn’t count on how hard and fast I will come.”

“But why would she want you to come to her?” asked Max. He itched to heal her hand, it was his natural instinct but he shoved it back. Unless Liz asked, he wouldn’t interfere and if her nonchalance over it was any indication… she didn’t even notice it.

“I threatened her back in Manticore,”

“Kat,” growled Zack in admonition.

“She had it coming! I told her I would be the one to kill her, when everything was over… I would kill her. Her eyes flashed in fear, I could see it, but I don’t understand it. I mean sure I’m a transgenic but if she’s a part of this cult then couldn’t she technically wipe the floor with me? I mean that’s what you’re saying right? That the members of this cult are superior to transgenics. If that’s true then why did he even start Manticore, we’re apparently no match for them.”

“I don’t know,” sighed Lydecker. “I’ll try to find out more if I can… but it may take time. Besides, the tests say differently, you two seem to be the two most perfect soldiers ever created. Nothing is flawed in your DNA at all, everything has a purpose, to what end I don’t know, but I will find out.”

“Alec doesn’t have time,” protested Liz. “I’m going for him now, I’m leaving while it’s still dark out.” She turned and began walking back into her room. Maxie began following her. “You can’t stop me,” she warned.

“I’m not trying to stop you, I’m going with you.” Maxie smiled at Kat. She had her sister’s back and would do this with her; besides the more they found out now the better prepared they’d be later. She turned and looked at Zack, arching a brow in question.

He sighed and looked skyward. “Somebody’s gotta keep you two out of trouble. I’m in.” Zack walked into the other room and grabbed his stuff, changing into more travel worthy clothes and headed back out. Maxie and Liz soon appeared as well. All three were in black fatigues and threw their duffel bags down in front of Logan.

“We move out now,” Liz looked at her friends. “All of you are staying here. We’ll call you when it’s done.” She halted them as they moved to protest. “That’s an order,” she barked. “You’re not coming,” she glared.

Liz grabbed Lydecker by the collar and pulled him up from where he had sat back down. “You’re riding with Logan and he has the ability and my permission to shoot you if you do something stupid, you got me?” When he nodded, she shoved him out the door. “Let’s move.”

After the door shut, the others all looked at each other in shock. They couldn’t believe what they had just witnessed. Liz had snapped, and whoever took Alec was going to be in a world of hurt. At least Maxie and Zack were going in with her; hopefully they would keep her out of trouble. Alex hesitantly walked over and picked up Lydecker’s scattered pictures… only to drop them again in shock.

“Alex, the point is to pick them up and look at them,” joked Maria quietly.

“That… that… that’s umm…” he gulped beginning to shake. Alex backed up and walked straight into Isabel. She wrapped her arms tightly around him, soothing him, as she looked at the others worried equally concerned faces.

“What is it?” she asked quietly.

Alex continued shaking slightly but looked around the room at his friends faces. “That symbol is the same thing that Khivar had at his base when I was taken,” he whispered watching every single face pale at the implications of that statement.

“Are you sure?” asked Michael sharply. When Alex nodded, he spun around and began pacing. “Damn it,” he hissed.

“Call Liz, NOW!” ordered Max.

“She never gave me her number,” shrugged Michael. “She wasn’t going to give it to me until right before they left next week.” He continued pacing, racking his brain for answers, finally he snapped his fingers and spun back towards Alex. “You can hack anything right?”

“Well not anything,” trailed Alex. “I’m pretty good and Logan worked with me some. What do you need, I’ll see what I can do.”

“See what you can dig up on this thing and any connections Khivar might have to it. We need solid answers and more information before we go to Seattle.”

“Wait, we’re going to Seattle?” asked Tess… “How are we going to explain that? How are we going to find Liz?”

“Tell my dad, he’ll spread it to the others,” suggested Kyle. “They can come up with some sort of excuse. We can’t let Liz walk into this blind. And, we’ll wing it… figure something out.”

“Well Alex, can you do it? The clock is ticking.”

“Yeah, yeah…” He headed toward the door, “meet me at my house in thirty minutes, get everything you need together and I should have a scan started.”

“You heard the man,” shouted Max, “Let’s go!”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz looked up from her seat in Logan’s apartment as he walked up to her. “Hey,” she said softly.

“Hey yourself,” he replied. “How you doing?”

“How do you think I’m doing?” Liz snapped, immediately regretting it. “Logan, I’m sorry,” she whispered.

“It’s okay, I understand.” He scooted closer to her and wrapped his arm around her, pulling her to his body. She willingly leaned into him, seeking comfort. “I felt the same way when I found out Max had been recaptured.” He paused, and silence descended on them as they watched Maxie and Zack gear up. “We’ll get him back Kat, I promise.”

“You know, you don’t have to tie me up… I’m not going anywhere,” complained Lydecker from the corner.

“SHUT UP!” they all yelled at him.

“Kat,” said Logan as he gently nudged her side. “I already talked to Maxie about this… but if you don’t want to I understand…” he trailed off hesitantly.

“What is it?” asked Liz looking up at him curiously. Logan had done so much for them, for Max and she didn’t know how she would ever repay him. He had let them use his apartment as base of operations from the minute they got into town early this morning and he had immediately called in his Eyes Only contacts to find where Alec was being kept.

Logan's contacts had come through. Even though he was human, she hadn’t seen him sleep a wink since the night before prom. He was tough and he was willingly doing everything he could to help her. Normally it would have taken them two days to get back but Logan had pulled through and they had driven straight through, no stops, till they reached his penthouse.

“If you want, until you get a place of your own… you can move in with me.” Logan looked down at her, waiting for her response. “There’s plenty of room, if you want you can take the guest room you had last week. Besides this is like Grand Central Station for anything transgenics as it is. Max would be over here all the time anyways and once we get Alec back I’m sure he’ll be a permanent fixture as well.”

“Thank you Logan,” choked Liz. “You don’t know how much this means to me and if you’re sure then when this is all over with I will move in… at least until I can get a place of my own.”

“Let’s load up,” called Zack. He grabbed his bag off the ground and untied Lydecker. “So Logan and Deck are going to be in the van doing surveillance while the three of us go in. We go in fast, silent and hard. We leave no survivors and we take no prisoners, our main objective is getting Alec out of there safely, clear?”

“Clear,” stated Liz and Maxie as they locked hands with Zack.

“We’re getting him back Kat,” said Max. She grabbed her bag as the five of them made their way to the elevator. It was a tense ride down; the three transgenics were gearing up for what was about to go down. They all knew this was one of the riskiest and most important missions they had ever gone on, they were bringing one of their own home.

A/N: hello my dear readers! hope you all enjoy this next part and thank you so much for all the feedback! as to the sequel, well my muse is pulling me in two other directions, both xtremer related so we shall see how that goes. again, i hope you enjoy!

CH. 19

“What did you find out Alex?” asked Max as he walked into his friend’s room, he saw that the others were all already gathered there.

“What we suspected, Khivar is a part of this… I’m not sure exactly what role he plays but he is a major player. I managed to narrow it down to which sector Logan lives in, but that’s about it. Things will be tough getting into Seattle without sector passes, we’ll have to all get them and it will take time to process each one through the system. It’ll take two days at the least to get up there, plus a few more to get everything taken care of.”

“Good, we’ll handle things when they come, is everyone ready to go?” asked Michael. When everyone nodded he stood. “Let’s go, we don’t have time to waste.”

“Michael, I found one other thing,” choked Alex. He hadn’t believed it when he first read it himself but there it was in black and white.

“What? Alex, what’s wrong?” asked Maria, already getting a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach at her friend’s reaction.

“The Parker’s are dead…” silence filled the room. “They were killed by the breeding cult. The file was on record; they were bait, a way to get Liz out of hiding. The bastards used them because they were an easy target for Liz.”

“Oh my God,” gasped Tess, her eyes filling with tears at the fate of Liz’s parents. They hadn’t even been a threat, just used as bait for Liz, a means for them to use to recapture her when she found out. Because she knew her friend would go to any lengths necessary to take out her parent’s killer.

“Ok, we have to go to Seattle, NOW!” exclaimed Isabel. Everyone agreed and hurriedly loaded Max’s jeep and Kyle’s bronco. Before long they were passing the ‘Now Leaving Roswell’ sign and hit the open road. Everyone felt grief for the Parker’s and a feeling of mixed hatred and sadness settled in each of them.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Liz stared up at the warehouse before her as its darkened windows stared back at her as if they were eyes, penetrating her soul. She shivered at the derelict look of the place. Liz knew that Alec was inside and could feel her blood already boiling at the thought that they had harmed him at all. She would rip this place a part piece by piece in order to find him. “Let’s go,” Liz growled, slinking off into the darkness. She made a series of hand motions to Zack and Maxie and watched them fade into the darkness as well. They were going in.

Creeping to the side of the building, Liz began climbing up the drainage pipe running up the wall. Reaching the roof, she blurred across to the skylight. There were no signs of any guards, which both worried and reassured her. No guards meant an easier way to get Alec out but it also meant that they might be inside, guarding him.

She slid open the panel on the window and dropped silently to the catwalk beneath her. Making her way down through the different levels she finally dropped to the ground and crouched low, sliding her way across the room. From either side of her, Liz saw Zack and Maxie drop too.

Flicking her eyes around the room, she noticed a door on the other side and could see figures moving inside. Gesturing towards the door she, Zack, and Maxie slunk over, without hesitating Liz kicked the door down and stopped frozen at what she saw on the other side. Alec was bent over on the ground, battered and bleeding profusely, three men standing over him and Renfro standing in a corner, apparently supervising. She could see an open cage a few feet behind him and at the thought of him being held in there, she growled long and low before advancing on them, Zack by her side and Maxie going to contain Renfro.

She felt renewed strength flow through her and kicked one of the men in the stomach when he turned to her. He grabbed her foot in his hands flipping her over and she landed with a thud on the ground, snarling she flipped herself back up onto her feet. They exchanged blows, blurring around the room, Liz picking up speed with every move. Dodging her opponent she ran up the wall and landed behind him, grabbing the back of his neck she smashed his head into the wall dropping him without a second thought as she heard his skull crack.

Liz turned and saw Renfro and Maxie fighting, watching her sister go flying across the room she blurred over to Renfro and grabbed her wrist. “You’re not going anywhere,” she hissed. “I have a promise to keep.”

Liz threw out a left hook and caught Renfro across the jaw; the blow sent her staggering backwards. “You bitch!” she raged. “What do you want from us? Does it make you feel better about your miserable life to hurt other people?” She kicked her and sent her flying across the room. Stalking up to her, Liz grabbed her by her hair and jerked her backwards. She kicked out her legs and sent her crashing to the ground. Holding Renfro by the back of her head, Liz glared down at her. “You took him because you wanted me to come, why?” she yelled, shaking her. Renfro sat silently, grunting in pain when Liz kneed her in the head. “WHY?” she repeated.

Spitting the blood out of her mouth she glared at Liz. “Because, you are the one 254. If he hadn’t made you, we wouldn’t have any problems, but you… you are different, the ‘savior’.”

“I’m no savior,” said Liz confused, momentarily letting down her guard. “What are you talking about? Why did you take Alec?”

“We needed someone we knew would make you come to us… who better than your mate?”

“You couldn’t have known that Alec and I would…”

“We knew, I saw it from the moment I paired you two together as breeding partners, I could see that you two would end up together. He’s your weak link, 254… and he’ll get you killed. Join us, become more than you ever imagined, you’re a part of us, more so than your sister.”

“What are you talking about?” snarled Liz. “And talk fast; I’m beginning to lose my patience.” She looked up as Zack and Maxie walked over, Alec limping between them. He looked so helpless and that just pissed her off even more.

“Kat, we need to get out of here now!” ordered Zack. He looked winded and it was then Liz realized that the other two Zack and Maxie had fought were stronger than they looked. How else could Alec have been so badly beaten? Something weird was going on.

“One more minute, now talk!” she glared down at the pathetic woman beneath her. She pulled her up and wrapped her hand around her neck, squeezing.

“You and 452 have breeding cult blood flowing through your veins, you have our DNA” she choked out. “452 doesn’t have as much and the source isn’t the same. 452’s comes from the betrayer; the one who made Manticore… yours, yours comes from…”

“From who?” shouted Liz; she glanced up distracted by movement in the shadows. Renfro took that opportunity and kicked her in the gut, sending her flying backwards.

“White,” gasped Alec. “Run,” he whispered, but the other three heard him. “Run now!”

Liz jumped to her feet as a man stepped out of the shadows. “Run! Run now, I’ll catch up!” she ordered to her family. Liz turned back to Renfro and circled her warily, “I’ll take on both of you if I have too,” she snarled, but the man stayed where he was, simply observing.

“You killed my siblings,” hissed Liz as she circled her prey. Darting in, she delivered a swift kick to the knee, sending Renfro down momentarily in pain. “You hurt me,” she growled. Picking up Renfro’s battered form Liz threw her as hard as she could into a wall on the opposite side of the room. She glanced quickly at the man, assessing that he wasn’t a present threat before moving over to the body on the ground. Dragging her up, Liz slammed her against the wall, every reverberating bang of her head into the metal was punctuated by Liz’s snarl of disgust. “You tried to kill my friend by hurting my sister!”

Liz stepped away from Renfro momentarily, looking at the beaten woman in disgust. “I hope you’re proud of yourself, because you did the one thing you knew I wouldn’t ignore,” she cocked her head to the side and looked at her, thinking “It was probably the most desperate and stupid thing you could have done, but it worked, just not in your favor… You hurt Alec,” she hissed, leaning in to whisper in Renfro’s ear. She was about to go in for the kill when the man, White, made his move.

White came flying out of nowhere and began beating her back slowly but surely. She defended herself but soon abandoned the fight; her revenge would have to come later; when the primary objective was taken care of… Alec was safe. She turned and ran out after her siblings and Alec, breaking the lock on the door before blurring away again.

They got him to the van where Logan and Lydecker were waiting and loaded him up before jumping on their bikes and heading back to Logan’s. Once inside Liz took him to her new room and laid him out on the bed, he was asleep. She looked down at him with tear filled eyes before brushing his hair out of his eyes and walking back out to the others. “He’s asleep,” she reported.

“Good,” smiled Maxie from her spot on the couch. She was sporting a couple of cuts and had an ice pack on her wrist. “You okay?” she asked her sister.

Liz looked back towards her closed door. “I will be,” she whispered. She looked at her family and sighed. “I didn’t get to kill Renfro; White interfered before I could do the deed.” Liz growled at the knowledge that her chance had slipped through her fingers.

“You’ll get her Kat,” promised Maxie. “You’ll get her.”

“If I’m free to go, I’ll see what I can dig up on what you told me,” said Lydecker. He stood back from the others, watching their dynamics and feeling pride well up inside of him at his ‘kids’. They were doing what they were born to do and while he knew they wouldn’t appreciate it if he voiced his thoughts, he couldn’t help but still feel it.

“You’re free to go,” said Zack. “Keep in touch, don’t make us come looking for you.” He watched Lydecker nod and walk out before looking back at the others. “Thanks Logan,” Zack nodded to the other man.

“Your welcome, it was my pleasure.”

Maxie stood and stretched, wincing slightly. “I’m gonna blaze. Kat, you need time with Alec so I’m taking these two with me,” she pointed to Logan and Zack. “You two can stay with me and Cindy. Call us when it’s cool to head back over.”

“Maxie, you don’t have to do that, I mean it’s Logan’s apartment and I’m just grateful he’s letting me stay here,” protested Liz.

“It’s okay,” soothed Logan. “You and Alec need this time to yourselves. Take as much time as you need. And yeah, just call us when it’s all clear.”

“Thanks,” she whispered. Liz got up and hugged him, then Zack, and then Maxie. “I’m going to get him cleaned up and then put him back to bed. I’ll see you guys later.” She walked back into her room and sunk down on the bed next to Alec. Liz gently nudged him awake and felt her heart squeeze at his groan of pain. “Come on Alec, wake up, you have to wake up so I can get you taken care of,” she whispered gently.

“Kat?” Alec asked groggily. He grasped her hand and lifted his other hand stiffly to her face. Caressing her cheek he smiled softly as she leaned into his touch. “I thought it was all a dream, but you found me,” he whispered.

“I’ll always find you, Alec.” Liz helped him sit up before leading him into the bathroom. Standing him in the center of the room, she made sure he could stand on his own before stepping away and turning on the shower. Letting the water heat up she turned back to him and began stripping him out of his tattered clothing. Neither cared about their soon to be individual states of undress, all that mattered was the healing process; emotionally, physically, and mentally.

Liz choked back a sob as she peeled away what was left of his tux that he had been captured in. Finally seeing the extent of his injuries she realized she didn’t make his captors suffer nearly as much as she should have. After getting Alec in the shower, Liz quickly stripped down and stepped in as well, the warm spray flowing over both of them. Turning to face Liz as she gently and methodically cleaned his body, Alec captured her hands in his own shaking ones. Halting her process he held them captured against his heart.

“I’m sorry,” Alec whispered, choking on pent up emotions. He placed a fingertip against her lips and stared down at her pleadingly. “I’m sorry,” he repeated, “for hurting you in anyway the other night. I’m sorry things got out of control and you got hurt both physically and emotionally. I’m sorry for being an ass and most of all I’m sorry for taking advantage of you and our friendship from that situation. Please say you can forgive me, I don’t know what I’ll do if you can’t… it’s all I could think about back there…” he trailed off, his body trembling as he slowly sunk to the floor of the tub. Liz dropped with him, taking his body and cradling it against her own. She gently rocked him, muttering meaningless but soothing words.

“I forgive you Alec,” she said softly as she gently kissed him on his forehead. “I don’t know if you’re ready to hear this, but I have to say it.” Liz paused, collecting herself before opening her mouth again. “From the moment you walked away from me in Roswell, I could feel my heart shattering into a million pieces. You were my best friend, who I loved more than anything in the world and I thought I had just destroyed that.”

She felt him take her hand in his own and looked down at him, the shower long forgotten as they stared into each other’s eyes. They both had tears running down their faces but each gaze held so much love that neither was willing to look away. “Alec,” Liz choked. “When I saw you being taken away, I felt my heart stop. I could feel a part of myself dying. I never want to feel like that again and I know it will probably take time and more effort on both our parts, but I have to say this. Alec…” Liz began trembling, she was about to lay it all on the line to the one man who meant the most to her. “I love you. I’m just sorry that it took me so long to realize it and that I caused us both so much heartache.”

Alec lay there stunned, the now cooling water beat down upon them but he paid it no mind. Liz had just told him that she loved him. It was a horrible thing that they had to go through so much to realize it but she did love him… Alec was sure of it. And as if she’d read his mind, her next words relayed the same thoughts or doubts that just went through his head.

“I’m sorry it took what happened to us, to you, to make me realize it… but I can’t lose you again Alec. I understand if you don’t want me after everything I said to you, but if you could give us a chance, I would make it up to you a million times over.” She was halted by Alec crushing his lips to hers. Liz melted against him, opening her mouth to his and moaning when his tongue darted out to sweep against her own. She pulled back and looked down at him dazed.

“Does that answer your question,” he smirked slightly.

“Definitely,” she smiled, happiness was radiating off of her and Alec couldn’t believe that he was the one who put it there.

“We can take our time, however slow you want to go… we can do that. I’ll take you out, I know we don’t have normal lives, but I will try and be the perfect boyfriend, whatever you need… I’m here for you,” he whispered. He cupped her face gently and smiled up at her, all of his pain momentarily forgotten as he basked in the glow of Kat’s love.

After lying there a little bit longer, both Liz and Alec began to shiver… the cold water finally registering. “We should get out of the shower,” she said a bit sheepishly. She stood and pulled Alec up with her, he was a bit stiff, his wounds still preventing him from being at one hundred percent, but she helped him out and dried him off before grabbing his bag that they had brought back from Roswell. Liz tossed him a pair of his boxers and she proceeded to throw on another pair of his boxers and one of his t-shirts before climbing into bed next to him.

“Those are my clothes you’re wearing,” commented Alec mischievously.

“I know, what’s it to you?” smirked Liz. She knew neither one of them was ready for anything physical after the other night but now that the truth was out she was ready to be completely open with him.

“I think you look hot in my clothes in fact, it’s sexy as hell,” Alec growled possessively as he wrapped his arm tighter around her. He sighed contentedly as Liz laid her head on his chest, hair fanned out over him and her fingers tangled with his own on his stomach. “I love you,” he whispered.

“I love you too,” Liz replied, inhaling deeply the scent of Alec and overjoyed to be reunited with him. “I don’t know why it took me so long to realize it, I’m sorry-“

“Hey, hey,” soothed Alec, gently running his hands up and down her arms. “It doesn’t matter now, it’s in the past and we’re together now.”

“Alec, what you said in there about being the perfect boyfriend, that was sweet, but it’s not what I need… all I need is you,” whispered Liz, looking up into his warm eyes that she loved so much. This is what she had missed, simply lying in his arms, just being… and she intended to never miss an opportunity like this again. They soon fell asleep, Alec sleeping peacefully for the first time since he had been captured and Liz since he had been taken.

Waking a few hours later to the sounds of someone coming in the door, Liz rolled over on the alert. She grabbed her gun from the bedside table and crept to the door. Turning back to see Alec looking at her sleepily. “Someone’s here,” she whispered. “Stay here, I’m going to check it out.” Liz cocked the gun before walking out into the rest of the penthouse. Rounding the corner she saw a girl, a little bit taller than herself with short blonde hair rifling through Logan’s Eyes Only files. “Who are you?” she asked calmly, gun trained on the intruder as she whirled around.

“Who am I, who the hell are you?” asked the girl.

Liz studied her for a second before lowering her weapon. “You must be Asha,” she guessed. Taking in the girls guarded stance she stuck her hand out, “Hi, I’m Kat.”

“How do you know my name, and your name doesn’t tell me anything about you,” glared Asha. “What the hell are you doing in Logan’s apartment?”

“It’s not just Logan’s anymore… it’s mine too, and he’s not in right now. He let me move in today.” She paused and stared at Asha. “I don’t know the whole deal with you and Logan or what you’ve tried to pull to get with him, but it stops now,” said Liz firmly.

“Oh so you think just because you’ve moved in you get him? Well I’ve got news for you… I knew him first,” said Asha haughtily.

“This isn’t about dibs… besides you don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell with my future brother in law, so lay off.”

“Brother in law? You’re a transgenic, one of Max’s ‘sisters’” she said derisively.

“Yeah, you want to make something of it? You know what, I don’t have time for this, take it up with Logan when he comes home. For now get the hell out!” Liz walked to the door and held it open, “Now!” She slammed the door when Asha left and walked back into her room. Climbing back into bed she glanced at Alec as he asked what had happened. “Just had to get rid of unwanted company.”

“So that was Asha, huh? Yeah, I can see why Logan would pick Max.”

“Watch out, she might come after you,” growled Liz.

“Well I’m already taken, so she’s just going to have to deal with it.” Alec leaned over and kissed Liz lightly on the lips before rolling onto his side and wrapping his arm tightly around her waist, anchoring her to him. “Goodnight Kat,” he whispered sleepily.

“Goodnight Alec,” she whispered back, they fell asleep again, contented smiles on both their faces.

CH. 20

“Hey Normal,” called Maxie as she walked into Jam Pony with her siblings and Alec. It had been a week since they had rescued him and so far he seemed fine, he was back to his normal smart ass comments and now on top of that he and Kat were all over each other.

Maxie was happy for her sister; don’t get her wrong, she just didn’t want to be witness to some of their acts. Although Alec and Zack had moved in together, luckily they hadn’t killed each other yet; the two always seemed to be at Logan’s penthouse. Granted she herself was always there too, but it was Logan’s… well Alec was always there for Kat, and they just needed to find Zack a girl. So after a week of being back it was about time to get back to work, and as much as Maxie loathed the idea of working with Alec, Kat wanted him to get the job too so here they all were.

“Well, well little missy, where have you been for the last three months? You’re lucky you’re not unemployed!” Normal came around from behind the desk and looked at the three with her. “Who are these hooligans? Friends of yours no doubt,” he sighed as he looked each of them over. “Sam? Sam, my dear boy, is that you?” Normal asked, looking excitedly at Zack. He ran over and embraced him tightly never noticing the others weird looks and Zack’s uncomfortable stance and lack of response.

“Yeah, Normal… see my man Sam here… well it turns out he’s my long lost older brother named Zack… we got shipped off to different social services places post Pulse and our records got wiped.” Maxie pulled Normal off of Zack and turned him to look at Kat too. “This is Kat, our little sister, the three months was us trying to find her and we did. This is her boy Alec; also… the three of them need jobs.”

“Fine,” sighed Normal, “here are your Jam Pony sector passes, use these for now and your official ones should be in tomorrow. Follow Max on her runs, she’ll show you where to go and probably where to get into the most trouble. Grab lockers, and bikes and be ready to work, I don’t pay these bums to just sit around.”

“Thanks Normal, you’re the best!” smirked Maxie as she watched him walk away muttering about worthless lay a bouts that aren’t worth the time or money.

“All right guys, now that you’ve got your jobs, I expect you to be on the straight and narrow,” commented Max, looking pointedly at Kat and Alec as she led them back to the lockers.

“Hey boo, glad to see you’re back, and no bullet holes at that” smiled the girl Liz met her first night in Seattle.

“Hey Cindy, meet my brother Zack, my sister Kat, and the current darkness to my sunny world… Alec, also known as Kat’s mate.”

“Maxie, that’s cold,” smirked Alec. “It hurts me right here,” he patted his chest mockingly.

“All right people, we got packages to deliver, I don’t pay you to stand around and socialize,” shouted Normal as he threw a package at Liz, she caught with ease and looked at him. “Bip, bip, bip, people!” he called waving her away.

“Hey, Max, glad to see you’re back!” smiled Sketchy as he pulled his bike up next to the gathered group.

“Hey Sketchy, you haven’t been getting into too much trouble without me to bail you out huh?” asked Max, poking fun at her friend. He had a tendency to get himself into trouble, whether it was over weed or women, you never knew with Sketchy.

“Max, you wound me,” he smirked.

“I think I like him already,” snickered Alec, earning a glare from Max and a reprimanding spank from Liz who he looked down at with arched brow. “Not now sweetheart, we have company.” He simply smiled innocently as the others attention was drawn to him and Liz glaring at him.

“Who is this beautiful lady?” asked Sketchy already smoothing back his hair and stepping towards Liz.

“Baby sister,” said Max and Zack both placing a halting hand on Sketchy’s chest.

“And taken,” growled Alec possessively. He wrapped his arms around Liz’s waist as she purred and leaned into him.

“Ok, ok, I can see when to back off… but sister?” he looked at the four in front of him, “what’s this about her being you guys sister, and Sam?”

“Turns out the three of us are family, Sketch,” smirked Max. “Pulse wiped out our records and we just found each other again, F.Y.I. his name is Zack. Isn’t life grand?”

“Oh yeah,” he said distractedly, “grand.”

“What?” asked Zack, staring hard at the man before him. They had gotten along fine when Zack had been here before, posing as a new messenger, but he was still wary especially when it came to his family.

“I was just thinking how unfair it is that the pretty people are all related to each other,” sighed Sketchy mournfully. “And she’s even dating this guy, who looks like he would have been a model pre-Pulse.” He scratched his head before sticking his hand out in introduction. “Calvin Theodore, otherwise known as Sketchy.”

“Alec, Kat, Zack,” the three said, each shaking hands with the man before them. “Nice to meet you,” smirked Liz, “even if the circumstances were kind of weird.”

“Bip, bip, bip, people! Seriously I don’t pay you to stand around and chat!”

“Guess we should get going,” sighed Max. “I gotta show the newbies the ropes,” she smirked as Kat swatted at her. “See you guys tonight at Crash?”

“Definitely boo,” smirked Cindy as she herded Sketchy away from the group.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Later that night everyone was gathered at Crash playing pool, drinking and generally being crazy as always. Alec and Liz were winning money off anyone stupid enough to play them. Max and Logan were sitting against the wall drinking whatever was put in front of them. Zack was playing foosball with Sketchy and Cindy had just gone to get the next round. Alec walked up behind Liz and wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “Are you happy?” he whispered.

“I am very happy,” she smiled, turning in his arms to face him. “I have a great guy on my arm who I love very much. I have my family around me and good friends, or who will soon be good friends.” She looked up at him carefully, “You okay?”

“Yeah,” he smiled suddenly. “C’mon, I know its spur of the moment, but I want to take you out,” he grinned mischievously.

“What are you up to?”

“You’ll have to wait and see,” was his cryptic reply. “Get someone to take your bike home for you because I am taking you away from all this,” Alec said dramatically, waving his arm around the room. He watched her walk over and speak to Max quietly before turning and flashing him a huge smile.

Alec felt his heart stop and knew then and there that to keep her happy and safe he would do anything in his power. He gulped as she slowly walked back over to him, the sway of her hips seemed more defined tonight, and everything about her seemed brighter, sharper.

Nothing physical had happened between since that night back in Roswell; sure here in Seattle they had kissed and held hands but it seemed as if both of them were scared to move forward. They were confident in their love, hell it had taken them over a year to spill their guts to just themselves, but the past few days they had been itching to be alone and the time never presented itself. Alec didn’t want to rush her, he had promised her he wouldn’t but he seriously needed some alone time.

“Hey, you ready?” asked Liz as she walked back up to him. He had looked deep in thought and she was concerned but realized he was okay after he looked her in the eyes. One look into those gorgeous hazel eyes and she was done for. Liz could read him like an open book, he was hers and she had nothing to be worried about. She followed him out to his bike and climbed on behind him, wrapping her arms tightly around his waist and smiling in satisfaction when she both felt and heard him suck in a breath.

The ride was brief; they stopped only to grab sandwiches and a couple of drinks before they arrived at their destination.

“I know I promised you normal, but with this view, why would you go anywhere else?” Alec asked, motioning upwards at the Space Needle. He took the bag with their food in it in one hand and grabbed her free hand with his other. Reaching the top they both walked out onto the edge and sat down, Liz cradled safely between Alec’s long legs as she bit into her sandwich and leaned back against his strong chest.

“Alec, I love this, I love you, but I told you I don’t need normal, just you,” Liz whispered, tilting her head back to look him in the eye. She giggled when she saw some sauce on his cheek and turned to get it. Pulling her hand back at the last second Liz leaned in and licked it off his face, sitting back she looked into his eyes as they darkened slightly. “There now, all better,” she whispered huskily. Tilting her head back up to his she playfully licked at his lips until he admitted her access, moaning when their tongues collided.

She felt herself being pushed gently backwards and looked up through hazy eyes at her mate as he leaned in to kiss her again. Gentle caressing of hands on heated flesh and tongues darting out to play in the sweet recesses of hot mouths took the lovers away on a heady journey, one that was brought back to earth by need of air. Liz leaned her forehead against Alec’s, breathing heavily as she clutched the lapels of his leather jacket tightly in her hands. “Can we go to a club?” she asked slightly breathless. She smirked up at him as he pulled her to her feet.

“Whatever the lady wants, she gets,” Alec smiled as he held out his arm for her to take. They drove to the nearest club and walked in, the music pumping around them only fueling their adrenaline as they walked out onto the dance floor.

Ooooooh, I don't want I don't need I can't stand no minute man
I don't want no minute man
Ooooooh, here's your chance be a man take my hand understand
I don't want no minute man

“C’mon lover boy,” purred Liz as she grabbed his shirt and pulled him after her. They made their way through the throngs of people dancing around them. The club was hot, everyone was sweaty as the bodies ground together, it was hard to tell faces apart in the mass of writhing flesh.

Boy I'ma make you love me, make you want me
And I'ma give you some attention, tonight
Now follow my intuitions, what you're wishin
See I'ma keep you all night, for a long time
Just start countin the ways

Liz looked up at him as he wrapped his arm around her waist, grinding into him as the sensual beat washed over them. Something seemed different in both of them tonight, but both were relishing in it and wanted to see where this took them. They had both kept their hands to themselves, first using Alec’s injuries as an excuse but that only lasted so long. They were both nervous, the unknown loomed before them but something in the air tonight left them heady with desire and wanting more.

Liz smiled up at Alec as he leaned down and kissed her deeply, running his hands over her body, caressing each curve as he pulled her small body closer to his own hard one. He fisted his hand into her chocolate tresses as she arched into him letting out a content purr of satisfaction as his lips attacked her pulse point.

Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no one minute man
Break me off, show me what you got
Cause I don't want, no..

“Do you love me?” asked Alec, pulling away from Liz momentarily, looking down into her desire filled eyes. He saw the confusion flash through them along with uncertainty.

”Of course I love you,” Liz replied. “Where’s this coming from? You know I love you.” She placed her hands gently on either side of his face, making him look down at her, neither noticing the entire time that they had never stopped dancing.

“I know the other’s have joked about it, and I know we’re rushing here… but I can’t help how I feel,” sighed Alec, pulling faintly back before glancing down at her again. “I love you Kat, you know that. I think I’ve actually loved you since you kicked me in the gut back in Manticore,” he joked slightly. Alec looked around again and finally tugged gently at her wrist. “I can’t tell you this in here,” he motioned around irritated. They walked out onto the street and Alec breathed deeply, “Can we go back to the penthouse?” he asked hesitantly.

“Sure, but Alec… what’s wrong?” asked Liz concerned, she had never seen him so anxious like this. He was kind of scaring her, she didn’t know what was going on.

“Nothing’s wrong,” he smiled, finally noticing her worried features. Reaching the bike, Alec pulled Liz to him, inhaling her scent and relaxing. “Nothing’s wrong,” he repeated, “just some stuff I need to tell you. Can you wait until we’re back?” he asked, smoothing her hair away from her face.

“Yeah, I can wait… as long as you’re okay,” she replied, still a little hesitant.

“Okay.” He pulled her onto the back of his bike and gunned the engine, turning to go back to the penthouse. When they reached it, they walked in quietly, not wanting to disturb Maxie and Logan if they were there.

“That’s odd, they’re not home yet,” shrugged Liz, as she pulled off her jacket. She turned to see Alec fidgeting and walked over; placing a pacifying hand on his she looked up at him. “What is it?”

Alec sighed and took her hands in his own; placing them over his heart he looked deep into her eyes. “I love you. I want you for as long as you’ll have me. I want you heart, soul, body; I want all of you and I want to give the same back to you. I know it’ll be hard, hell we’re two of the most stubborn people on this planet and for some reason only happy with each other, so God knows it will be hard. But I love you and Kat, no matter what anybody else says… I want you to be my mate. You are the one and only woman I love and will ever love.” Alec paused, and looked down, avoiding eye contact until her small hands moved from his chest and wrapped around his waist. She had managed to worm her way into his heart and into his arms and he finally looked down at her in trepidation.

“Alec,” Liz whispered, her eyes filling with unshed tears, “make love to me.”
