What Destiny Brings (CC ~ Teen) Seq ~ 5/27 Parts 17 ~ 18

Post by roswellbrat »

I'm glad you are enjoying it! :) Capra was used by their loved ones (Grandma Claudia, Miranda and Max's Antarian mother) to protect them...she was just a substitute for Isabel. Just one answer, but that's all you'll get  There are only 2 more parts after these two...then it's done. Enjoy!

What Destiny Brings
Part 17

He looked at the monitor, why wasn't it working? He should be able to see everything, who was coming in and who was going out. All he could see was black…

Evan carried the camera tucked securely in his hands, he didn’t want anyone to be able to see where he was. Looking around, he saw one of Liz’s ceramic boxes. Lifting the lid, he placed it inside. Once the lid was back on, he called to the others. “We did have visitors, they left us a present.” Putting his finger to his lips to signal to them not to say a word, he lifted the lid for them to see.

“Oh a mystery…we haven’t had any fun like this since Tess and Nesado!” Maria missed all of the excitement and mystery of their high school days…well it had scared her half to death on occasion, but it was always interesting. When she realized what she said, she gave Liz and apologetic look “Sorry.”

“Don’t be, I’m still here, they aren’t. We did have some pretty good times back then, didn’t we?”
Thinking about some of the situations that had happened made her smile. Even though they didn’t think of them as good when it was all going on, hindsight gave it all a new prospective. “Remember that time Kyle got Max drunk?”

“I only had one little sip, that doesn’t constitute drunk!” Max was pretending that his feelings were hurt.

Liz walked over beside him and pats his behind, “It does if you’re an alien, Dear. Now what do you suppose we should do with our gift?

“Let’s leave it in the box for now, maybe someone will come looking for it.” Michael wanted it out to look at it, to try to figure who would plant something like that here. He knew Max wouldn’t hear of it…they’d keep it closed up until they could take it somewhere else. He looked towards Max and Liz, they seemed more interested in the new destiny book. Evan and Capra had gone to stand by them, they wanted to know what it meant too. Liz picked it up, opening the cover, she looked for the picture of Evan and Capra…but she only saw Evan, Max was looking over her shoulder and saw it too. He reaches around Liz’s arm and takes the book closing it he tries to put it away.

“Wait, we want to see it…why did you close it like that?” Evan couldn’t understand what they saw that was so bad. “Our pictures are still in there right?”

“We’ll check it out later, when we have more time.” Max started to walk away, but Evan snuck his hand around and he grabbed the book away from him. “Evan! Give me that, we’ll look at it later!”

“No, if it has something to do with our future, I want to see it now!” He opens the book, then he sees it, he was the only one left, Capra was gone. “No! This is wrong! Where did she go?”
Capra looks over at the book and sees she’s no longer there. Her eyes fill up with tears.
“Does this mean…no, it can’t be that.” Looking at Evan, she runs for the door.
“It can’t mean that I lose her. I won’t let it! She’s the love of my life!” He runs after her, but she has disappeared.

“We have to get them back, to explain what they see isn’t necessarily what will happen…Max, he can’t lose her, it will kill him.” She began to fear for her grandson…if this destiny came to pass, she was afraid all would be lost for Evan.

“He will know soon, I think, that their destiny might be decided by how he handles a situation. Something or someone is coming, can’t you feel it?” Destiny hated it that she was burdened with all of the combined powers of her family. The intense flashes of things to come have been known to keep her locked away for days. No one, not even Liz knew how bad they could get. Sometimes they would be about people they didn’t know and had no way of finding, yet she was weighed down with the knowledge of something she couldn’t do anything about. Sometimes, when she could figure out where the person was, they would get there too late…making her unable to heal the person. “Sometimes I wish I could get rid of these powers, I feel like they will make me crazy.”

Max had never thought about what she went through…he knew what his cost him, but to have all of them, to always being connected with something or someone…was it a burden to her? He walks over to her and takes her into his arms. “Dessie, I know how they can be…no, I don’t know what you go through, it must be overwhelming.” That’s when he felt her crying, something she never did, at least in front of him. He just held her, he hoped that this would free her of some of the pain she must carry. “If there was anyway I could take them away, I would. But I think you were given them for a reason.” She looks at him, asking why with her eyes. “You are so much like your mother. When she was tested with Future Max, her strength to protect those she loved must have been immeasurable. She not only had to make me fall out of love with her, but she had to send me to Tess. I thought I would die when I saw her with Kyle…but for her to know that she didn’t have a choice, that she would have to lie to me, breaking my faith in her…I marvel at her every time I think about it. She is the real hero to me…she has survived what was put on her, to protect us all. Then when she found out it was all a test she accepted it because we had made it through it and it made us stronger. I think that sometimes you must be tested to accept the life you had no choice in. We never know what will happen, so we must accept each test one day at a time. I love you Dessie, you have made me so proud. You have your mother’s strength…you are my hero too.” He leans over and kisses her forehead. “Now, we have to find Evan and Capra and get this straightened out.” As he turns to go, he looks at her…when he does he sees a little girl that was lost changing into the woman that had finally found herself.

He stood off hidden in the rocks, watching. He saw her run out, this was good. She would be alone and upset. He would make his move now…

She stood in the shadows of the pod chamber, she ran down to the bottom. She didn’t want to take any chances by running up, not that she would, of course. The shade was cool, it let her clear her head. If they were in the book, then it changed, didn’t that mean that it could change back. She saw what their destiny was before and it was beautiful, even though it had surprised her. But to see that she wouldn’t be there…it just didn’t seem possible. Evan would find a way to save her…he had to. She was lost in her thoughts when she saw his shadow. “Evan, is that you?” She had to shield her eyes from the bright desert sun. He didn’t say anything, just pointed his hand at her, sending her backwards, knocking her out…

Evan went down the rocks, looking in every direction. “Capra! Where are you?” He waited but didn’t hear a sound…”Capra!”

“Evan? How are you?”

Evan turned at the sound of his voice “Professor Draakes, what are you doing here?”

What Destiny Brings
Part 18

“I don’t mean to sound rude professor, but did you happen to see Capra on your way here? She was upset about something and took off. I was just on my way to find her.”

“Sorry I didn’t see her…can I help in anyway?”

“No, we’ll find her. Is there something we can help you with?” Evan wanted to get going, he didn’t feel like making small talk with his ex-professor.

“I was wondering if you could make arrangements for me to see those burial grounds again, you seem to know the man at the trading post. Would there be any objections if I went up there and took some pictures?” The professor wanted to study some of the markings he saw.

“You can go up to the trading post, talk to Eddie, tell him I sent you. It should be okay as long as you don’t disturb anything. I really need to go, it’s important that I find her.”

He laid her down on the cave’s floor, he was surprised she hadn’t come around yet. Humans could be so weak. “I wonder how long it will take for them to figure out where I took her. Maybe they won’t figure it out, then what?” She started to make a small moan, then she went back to sleep. “I’ll give you another hour. Then I’ll make sure you’re awake to answer some questions…”

Evan checked every inch of the area in front of him, he knew it wouldn’t make any sense to go up, she would never do that no matter how upset she was. It was getting hotter and he knew she didn’t have any water, he had to find her soon. “Capra! Where are you?” He calls to her. There was one more place to check, and if she wasn’t there, then he wouldn’t know where she was. He looked around the area behind the rocks, a place she went to before, in the shadows he saw something. Bending over, he picked up her shoe. If she only had on one shoe, she couldn’t get far, unless someone helped her. “Camera man?” Did the person that left the camera take her, and if so, for what? He heard a noise behind him, making him jump “Capra?”

“No, it’s just us…sorry. You haven’t found her yet?” Max and Michael stood there watching Evan. “What’s wrong? Evan…” Max was starting to get nervous. With someone out there hiding cameras, could they have also taken her?

Evan held up the shoe. “She can’t be far off, she should be right here without her shoe. I don’t like the feeling I’m getting.”

“I think it’s time to get your mother involved. Let’s go.”

Destiny knew they were on their way, the feelings she was getting weren’t good. They needed to find her soon. But when they did, what would they do? It wasn’t going to be easy getting her back.
The door of the pod chamber came open; the three of them came into the room. “I think I can find her if you have a picture…I’ll need to dreamwalk her.” Evan thought for a minute…did he even have a picture of her? “I have one, just a minute!” He runs to his room, pulling down the box he had stored some of the things he had brought with him, he finds the group picture they took just before coming to Roswell. Returning to the living room, he hands her the picture. “It’s not real good, I hope it will work.”
Destiny looked at the picture, “This will do fine.”

Destiny placed her finger on Capra’s face. “Oh Capra, you have to hear me…we can’t help you if you don’t.” Closing her eyes, she leaned back and waited. She could smell and feel the dampness of the cave, but there were a lot of caves nearby, which one was it? She saw Capra lying on the floor. ‘At least she’s still alive’, but where were they? She needed to talk to her, but she didn’t know if she could get in. Capra started to roll over, opening her eyes she saw Destiny. ‘How did you get in? How did you get passed him?’ ‘I’m not really here. I’m in your dreams to find out where you are, can you help me?’
‘What do you want me to do?’ ‘Try to show me where you are, do you have any idea?’ Capra looked around trying to find something that would give her a hint to her location. Then she pointed to a wall, a green glow came from it. ‘The map cave? They took you to the map cave?’
Capra nodded her head. ‘I think there is only one of them. But there might be others. You have to go, I think he’s coming!’

She suddenly jerked herself up right. “Mom, are you okay?”
“Yes, she’s in the cave with the map, from what she says there is only one person involved. But there maybe others.”
“Let’s go!” Evan was ready to hit the road and get his wife back.
“No! We have to figure out the best way to get in there. If we do this wrong, we could get her killed.” Max needed to have a serious talk with his grandson soon. He has to learn that to go in blindly could be his downfall then everyone loses.

Destiny stood up; when she turned to go to the kitchen she bumped into the new destiny book. Picking it up she didn’t know if she should check it or not. Maybe it would be in their best interests if she did. Once she opened it she felt she had not made a mistake. Walking over to the table, she lays the open book for them all to see. “Evan, you must listen to whatever they say because if you don’t this will be the result.” Looking into the book, they see that Evan is gone too. “When it all comes down, you must also listen to Capra, she will save you from yourself. We must come up with a plan to make sure everyone comes home.”

He walked up the hill from the trading post, Eddie was kind enough to tell him a brief history of their burial grounds and what some of the symbols meant. He didn’t think the altitude had affected him this way that last time he was here…he could hardly breathe and his heart felt like it was racing, then he was on the ground…

“It’s about time you woke up. Now, what will it take to get them here?”

“I can’t believe it’s you, he would have trusted you with his life! I won’t tell you anything, you can’t make me talk!” Capra watched him, she couldn’t understand how he could do this to Evan…

The professor stood up, dusting off his pants…it wasn’t the best, but it would do in a pinch. It probably wouldn’t be for long anyway. Once this was done this body could die or it could live, it wouldn’t make any difference one way or another.

“I will have what I want, you and that boyfriend can’t stop me. Now where is it? I know you’ve seen it!” He walked towards her…this would be fun, he hadn’t had much fun in the past few years. That whole college thing was such a bore.

“Evan is my husband now, and I still won’t tell you anything!” Suddenly the light coming into the cave is blocked. Capra squints to see who it is. “Professor, get out of here now! Hurry before it’s too late!”

The professor starts to laugh, “It’s already too late…the professor is gone, at least for now.”

“It’s about time you got here! I don’t know how much longer I can stand this.” He starts to scratch at the peeling skin.

“Soro, my man, you are a mess. What happened to your moisture chamber, don’t you know that this dry, desert air is bad for you. What has it been almost fifty years now, if this keeps up, you won’t even make it the full time.”

“I’ve hated that stupid name ever since you gave it to me…what have you done with my moisture chamber?”

“All right Nicholas, are you happy now. Oh, yes, did I forget to mention that the last moisture chamber was destroyed when Michael blew up what was left of the Crashdown? Sorry.”

“I knew when I gave you the antidote for that damn poison that it would be the biggest mistake of my life…”

What Destiny Brings (CC ~ Teen) Seq ~ 5/28 Parts 19 ~ 20

Post by roswellbrat »

:D No problem...You still don't know about the professor, that's coming up soon. I was just hoping that the writing wasn't too confusing. I'm still playing around with the idea of a third part, but I'm not real sure where to take it.:? Okay, this is it...the conclusion! Enjoy!

What Destiny Brings
Part 19

Capra knew this wasn't good, she had a feeling that these two were old enemies of her family...they had to be stopped, but how? She leaned forward closing her eyes, could she connect with Destiny or Liz, would they be able to hear her…

“What’s wrong with that one? You didn’t start anything did you?” Kivar didn’t want anything to happen to her, yet.

“No, I was just getting ready to, then you came in.” Nicholas started rubbing his face, his skin fell off into his hand. He hated this new husk, but it was the best that could be done once the others were destroyed. If he didn’t get into some kind of moisture soon, he wouldn’t last much longer.

“Good, I want them to be here, I want them to see another loved one fall for the lose of my sister. And for this one, I think it will be a nice slow end…like the one they wanted for me. Now, have you been able to find out anything about the amulet?”

“No, she said that she didn’t know what it was. Of course she was lying.” Nicholas didn’t like the way Kivar was looking at him, he had seen that look before.

“Aren’t you the smart one, of course she isn’t going to admit to knowing anything about it!” Walking away he mumbles under his breath. ‘Stupid idiot.’

Destiny and Liz were going through the book when Destiny suddenly felt like someone had jumped into her head. “Ohh!” She held her head.

“Mom, what’s wrong?” Evan ran over to her.
“It’s Capra, she’s trying to get into my head, like she’s dreamwalking me!”

“Like Lauree Dupree? Can she do that?” Michael thought about the time Lauree had got into Isabel’s head, it had saved her life.

“She’s trying to tell me who’s there. Wait…” She holds up her finger for them to be quiet. “Oh my God…they aren’t dead! Soro isn’t who he claims to be.” She looked at the confused face of her son. “They want the amulet, but for what? Capra, don’t leave now! That’s it…I’ve lost her connection.”

“Who’s still alive? What about Soro?” Evan needed to know what was wrong with his best friend.

“Soro is really Nicholas. From what I could get from her, Nicholas is in a new husk. She’s very confused because she doesn’t understand what they are talking about. Professor Draakes is Kivar. I don’t understand, didn’t he die from the poison? Kivar must be using the professor as an emissary, you can’t kill him, he is innocent.” She looks at the three men. “Promise me you won’t hurt him.”

“If he gets in our way we can’t be held responsible for what happens to him. What else did you see?” Michael wanted Kivar dead this time no matter what the cost.

“No, he is to be saved…trust me it has to be this way!” She opens the new destiny book, the pictures of Evan and Capra are now very very faint, “See it’s telling you what I’m saying is true. Evan please, do not hurt the professor.”

“I think it’s time to get going, we have to stop them now!” Evan didn’t want to wait any longer, he wanted his wife back. His angry outburst caused the book to change again, looking down at it, he saw that what little picture there was of Capra was now gone.

“Evan, you can’t rush into anything, especially where those two are concerned…we must have a plan.” Max was getting worried that Evan would be the death of them all.

“You’re sounding like your wife again Maxwell. Always with the plans…” Max now knew where Evan got his hot head, but he hoped he could cool it off before they got to the cave. Michael looks behind him, seeing one of the boxes with the things from the UFO Center, he reaches in and gets Rath’s weapon. “A little help from my friend.”

Max walked over to a group of flat stones on the table, studying one of them, he picks it up and runs his hand over it. “They want the amulet, they got it.” He holds up the new amulet, a perfect copy. “They won’t know the difference.”

Kivar and Nicholas walk over to where the cave map used to be. The green glow was slowly turning red. “How much time do you think we have? If we don’t get that amulet, we’ll never get home.” Nicholas couldn’t stand one more minute on this planet, he wanted to get home and get rid of this husk.

“We have a while. After the red comes then comes the yellow. We won’t have long after that. Once the glow turns white, we better have that amulet or we can kiss our butts good bye.” Kivar paced back and forth in front of Capra. “I wish I knew what she was thinking.”

“I can handle that!” Reaching forward, he gets ready to place his hand on her head to read her mind.
“Don’t waste your time, we already know that they will come looking for her, it’s just a matter of time.”
“Well, that’s something we don’t have.”

“She’s doing it again…The map, it isn’t a map any more. They need the amulet to get home! It sounds like it has turned into some kind of portal to transport them back to Antar, the amulet must trigger it, like a key.”

“Again with the key, what doesn’t it open? Mom, is she okay, they haven’t hurt her have they?”

“She can’t stay connected very long…she’s fine, but these connections are putting strain on her. She is so strong, Evan, but she can’t keep this much longer or she won’t be able to help you when you’ll need it. I’ll try to make a quick connection with her, she has to know to save her strength.” Picking up the picture again, she quickly connects with Capra.

She felt Destiny’s connection; she knew it would be the last until her rescue, if they can succeed.
‘Capra, you know this will be the last time we speak until you are home with us…you must guide Evan. His heart is breaking without you, he will do whatever he thinks needs to be done, no matter what the cost…please you must save him from himself if you are all going to survive.’

Capra knew she was right, it would all depend on her and getting Evan to believe in himself…

What Destiny Brings
Part 20

"Okay, does everyone understand their part...this has to go down with precision, no mistakes.” Max checked to make sure that they had everything. “One stop at the trading post and we’ll be set. You did make sure he had what we needed didn’t you?”

“You’ve only asked me three times, yes, he has it. It’ll be ready when we get there.” Michael picked up Rath’s weapon and looked at Maria. “Don’t worry we will be back. I promise.” He walked over to the other side of the table and gave her a kiss.

“Max, are you sure we shouldn’t go with you…we are stronger together than we are apart.” She didn’t like the idea of him going off like this, they always fought together. She stood up and walked over to him, wrapping her arms around his waist, she leaned into his chest. Listening to his heart beat she noticed that it went faster. He read her thoughts and smiled down at her. She knew it wasn’t the up coming battle that did that, it was her touch, her presence, her love; because it always happened to her too. Even after all of these years the nearness to him sent her heart racing. “Please be careful, I couldn’t stand it if…”

Placing his finger on her lips he just smiled. “You will never know that, I will always come home to you.” Leaning down he gives her a kiss, one that she could hold on to until his return. He sent her a flash of being on the balcony the night before graduation, just after proposed to her…right before he claimed her forever and then of her lying in his arms on the blanket. “Something to look forward to when I come home.”

Parking in front of the trading post, Max got out and went inside. “Hey Eddie, is it ready?”

Eddie hands him a paper bag. “Be careful, Brother. This is dangerous stuff. It won’t take much. Are you sure you don’t want any company?”

“These are two bad boys that’s better left to us. Just make sure there is no one up there.” He extends his hand to Eddie. “Take care my Brother. Do us a favor and do some fast talking to those spirits of yours because we may need them.” He looks at him in the eye. Eddie knows of these two and he would rather be going with them, but Max knew best.

“Wait, I’ll be right out.” Eddie reaches up onto a shelf and gets down his abalone shell and eagle feather; then getting into his deer hide bag he removes some sage and sweetgrass. As he walks passed the counter, he grabs pack of matches. When he steps outside he sees that they have mounted the horses he had ready for them. “This can’t hurt.” Lighting the grasses he waves the smoke over them. “May the Great Spirit watch over you. Come home safe my friends.” As they ride off, he watches until he can’t see them anymore.

Liz and Destiny were getting ready, they checked the destiny book again, but things were still the same. “Are you afraid he’ll fail?” Liz could read her daughter.
“No, he’ll come through alright. He’s grown a lot in the past few days…but then he had to. I’m sorry for all the hard times I gave you when I was growing up.”

“Which times were those? I seem to recall quite a few.” Liz looked lovingly at her daughter.

“Because I blamed you for wasting your life by giving up college. When I was in school, all I heard was how smart you were, that you could have been the head of Harvard’s Science Department and you threw it all away. There were times I hated you for that…to give up your dreams to be on the run from the FBI. I think that’s way I was so hard on Evan, he has your brains but he wanted to waste his life…”

Liz looked at her daughter, so this is what had driven her all these years. “Oh Dessie, I never wasted my life. Your father, then you, were my life.” She reaches over and runs her hand down Destiny’s cheek. “I never gave up anything I didn’t want to give up. Without him, I had no life.” She starts to smile remembering all of the times in the van. “Even when we lived in that van with four other people, we had the best of lives…that was and still is our destiny, and we live each day to the fullest because even now we never know when it will be our last.” She reaches over and pats her hand. “Now, we have this battle to win.”

Riding up the hill, Max signals for them to stop. “Evan, you must remember, Soro is not your friend, he never was. He’s really Nicholas, so you must be prepared for him. When you look at him, look passed the face that you recognize as your best friend. If you get the chance, get the heaviest thing you can find and hit him here. “ Max places his hand in the small of Evan’s back. “This will break the shell of his husk and will kill him…he is our enemy, remember this.”

Evan read the seriousness of his grandfather’s words. He would not let them down. “I can do it, Capra is my only priority now. Her safety comes before everything else.”

They stood outside the entrance of the cave. Michael picks up his weapon and walks in. “Good afternoon, gentlemen. I think you have someone that belongs to us.” He looks at Capra to make sure she was okay. “Are you ready to go home? I think your husband misses you.”

“Ah, the second in command. Do they let you play with sharp toys now?” Kivar walked towards Michael.

“Would you like to find out?” Michael looks at him smugly. “I don’t think the professor does you justice.” Out of the corner of his eye he sees Nicholas starting to circle him. “I guess you had everyone fooled…oh, what is that?” Reaching over, he pulls off a piece of Nicholas’ cheek. “Rather gross in my opinion. Maybe someone should put you out of your misery before you turn to dust and make a mess every where.” Evan runs into the cave carrying a heavy tree branch they had found outside. Swinging it in Nicholas’ direction, he misses, and is thrown across the cave by Nicholas. Max walks in and points his hand at Nicholas and sends him flying towards the wall of the cave.
“Now, we have what you want, and you have what we want…what are we going to do about it?”

They sat at the table holding hands, Liz and Destiny had connected with Destiny’s dreamwalk. They were watching as the others tried to free Capra. Liz felt Destiny tighten up when she saw Evan fly across the cave. They see Capra heading towards Nicholas, wondering what she was doing. He is lying on his stomach, where he landed. He still hadn’t come around…or had he? They watch in horror as he reaches up and grabs her arm. “Don’t even think it.” He stands up and takes her back to where she was sitting. Standing behind her, he placed one hand on her chin and the other over the top of her head. “I wonder how loud it will be when it snaps…any one want to take bets?” Capra felt what Evan was thinking. If he moved she would be gone, it would be fast, but Evan would be lost and it would be his end too.
‘No, Evan, wait. Now is not the time. Hear me, please.’ Somehow she felt him back off, he had heard her.
Liz and Destiny watched in amazement as he did what she said. Looking down at the book, they saw that the pictures were getting darker. They were on their way back.

Max pulled the amulet out of his pocket, “I think this is what you were looking for. That light sure is a pretty shade of yellow…what does that mean by the way? That you two are a couple of cowards picking on a helpless girl like that?” He tosses it to Michael. He immediately tosses it to Evan. Evan looks at it. “You know, I heard Eddie say that little whole over there goes to a bottomless underground pit, should we see if it really is bottomless?” He takes the amulet and holds it over the small opening. “Oh look, the yellow is getting lighter, does that mean that it will be turning white soon?” He starts to spin the amulet, acting like he’s going to drop it in. Just as Nicholas jumps to get, Evan throws it back to Max, then he grabs the branch and hits Nicholas in the back. “Well, that was easy enough. Looks like you’re next.” He walks towards Kivar. He had one thought in his mind, to kill Kivar, nothing was going to stop him. Capra knew this was to be his test, she had to wait, their lives would be determined by the next few minutes.

Liz and Destiny watched, the book had stopped changing, it was like it waited with them. They watched as Evan came closer to Kivar. He wanted the amulet, if he was going to go after Evan, he knew that Max wouldn’t hesitate and would throw it into the hole. Evan threw a force field around the professor, now was his time, he would kill him if it was the last thing he did.

Capra stood in front of him, “It will be the last thing you do, you can’t kill the professor, Evan, he is as innocent as Brody was…let him go.”

Evan had him on the ground, tightening his hands around the professor’s neck. “No, this has to stop, I’m ending it now!”

Capra crouched down and looked at him, “Evan, Kivar isn’t in there…Look! He isn’t fighting you! Kivar would have surely thrown you across this cave by now. EVAN!” She looks at him with tears in her eyes. “You will kill yourself if you don’t stop.” She takes his face in her hands, he starts to push her away, then stops “You won’t be able to live with yourself if you kill an innocent man, it will eat at you for the rest of your life, killing you and killing us…please stop!” Evan picks his head up and looks at her. Then he looks at the professor, he was looking very pale. “Evan, you know what you must do…you can do it. His life depends on you.” She touches his cheek, then he leans down and places his hands on the professor, slowly healing him. Then he realized he healed himself at the same time. Max and Michael stood to the back watching them…who was she?

From behind them, they hear applause. “Boo hoo, pass me the tissues. Now give me the amulet!”
He was in another body.

“Where did that body come from? You were using the professor as an emissary, who is that?

“Oh, just an unfortunate hiker. I kept him alive until this morning. I have a few hours before they aren’t usable anymore. Good thing you got here when you did, he wouldn’t have been much good soon.” Holding out his hand, he waits for the amulet.

Liz and Destiny get ready, this mindwarp had to be strong, it would take both of them to send it to Kivar. They concentrated on the wall where the map was, in a matter of seconds Max would throw the amulet to Kivar, as he jumped into what he thought was the portal home he would actually be jumping into the bottomless underground pit. “Here you go!” Max tosses at the same time they connect with Kivar. Max uses his powers to blast open a hole in the ground, big enough for him to fall into. They hear his screams. Michael grabs the professor, Evan takes Capra’s hand
and they run outside. As they hit the opening, Max reaches into the bag, pulling out two sticks of dynamite and matches. “Run! These have very short fuses, we’ll only have seconds!” He lights them and tosses them into the cave. Running to catch up to them, he jumps on his horse and they ride down the hill. They hadn’t gone far when they heard the explosion. “Well, another bit of our past gone…”

The professor was still trying to figure out what had happened to him. Rubbing his neck, it felt sore, like something tight had been around it. “What happened to me?”

“Sorry sir, you must have hit your head in the cave and got knocked out. We found you on the ground.” Evan wasn’t really lying, they had found him on the ground.

Eddie offered to keep him for a few days and he included a full tour of the reservation. He was glad to see that everyone had survived…but he hoped that it wouldn’t happen again too soon, he was getting too old for this kid stuff.

Destiny and Liz looked at the book, the pictures had returned, their fate was sealed, at least for now…
Max looked at Evan and Capra. “Okay, who are you and how do you know what to do to keep him in line?”

Capra just looked from Michael to Max and finally to Evan and smiled. “I’m just a woman that happened to be lucky enough to know when to listen when destiny called. I followed my heart and saved the love of my life. Now, can we go home?” As the hover craft glided down the road you could her say one more thing. “Can I have a key to the front door now?” Their laughter echoed through the mountains…

October 15th. I’m Capra Guerin, this is my first entry in this journal. After reading the journals of Evan’s grandmother, I have decided that it is my turn to carry on the tradition. The destiny book has proved right…we were told that we would one day have twins, much to my surprise and it seems that day will come in about five months. Their great-grandfather has determined that they are a healthy pair. A boy and a girl. We have seen them many times…I think we will have our hands full with these two. But they will be happy and loved. That’s all that matters. We never heard from the professor again, we did hear that he took a leave of absence, it seems he thought he was abducted by aliens and joined a group chasing crop circles. Destiny went back to be with Evan’s father, but she now is traveling less and plans on being here for the arrival of her first grandchildren. Life is wonderful and we live each day to the fullest because we never know when it could be our last. We live well and we love with all of our hearts because it’s what destiny brings us each day…
