Thanks for reading, I have started a couple of these and never gotten too far but I am DETERMINED to stick with this one, so we shall see :)

The Vitals:
Liz was a senior in high school when Max was just a freshman making them 3 years apart in age.
They never really knew each other back then but meet up unexpectedly years later.
Michael is Max’s older (adopted) brother by 5 years (2 years older than Liz) and was good friends with Liz in high school but lost touch once he went to college. Michael and Max are very close. The rest you will just have to wait and see.

Roswell, New Mexico 2005

It had been over 7 months since Liz Parker had graduated Harvard University with a degree in molecular biology, and here she was back in the town she grew up in, hanging out with the same people she had grown up with. While she knew she loved biology, she also knew she had needed a break from work and some time to unwind. Her time at Harvard had been intense. She worked her ass off to graduate with honors and was offered a lab assistant job at Harvard right out of school, but she declined it deciding she needed time to decompress and live a little. So she returned to Roswell that summer, much to her parents’ dismay, and took time off to travel with her friend Maria who was taking time off as well while trying to upstart her music career. They went all over South America and had an amazing time. Liz figured by the time she returned in October she would be ready to pursue her dream but she was actually more scared than ever. So to appease her parents she began working at their restaurant again, The Crashdown. The Crashdown is where Liz spent most of her youth, as did most of Roswell. She loved it, she did, but she had hoped going to school in Boston would help her move past her childhood, and while it did she still found herself back in the comfortable confines of the town.

Now it was about to be New Years and Liz was determined to start her life again in 2006. It had been a hard December for her. Her grandmother, whom she loved and emulated all her life had passed away suddenly and thrown Liz into a tale spin. She had taken to holing herself up in her room and writing for hours in her journal. None of her closest friends could seem to break her out of her incessant funk. Alex had come over numerous times with movies and jokes, none of which helped turn her mood. Kyle had brought Liz his Buddhist teaching books and tried to impart some wisdom on the religious aspects of death, which only served to further deepen Liz’s sorrow. Maria came by everyday just to be with Liz, even if it was mostly in silence. She was at a loss for what to do to help her best friend since birth break out of the shell she had created for herself.

So here it is, December 31, 2005 and Maria was determined to have Liz ring in the New Year on a positive note. Maria did the only thing she could, she ambushed Liz into going up to Kyle’s ranch in Hondo for a New Year’s party. It wasn’t hard to convince Liz’s parents to go along with the idea considering how worried they had become over Liz’s depression and subsequent loss of direction. Maria arrived to Liz’s bedroom that morning at 10am to wake her up and force her by any means necessary to attend the party.

“Lizzie time wake up!” Maria shouted walking into Liz’s room. Liz only responded with a groan and a mumble that sounded like something to the effect of ‘get out’, but Maria was not deterred.

“Liz, that is it, we are going to Kyle’s ranch in Hondo, and we are going to have FUN! You remember that don’t you? And you have to get up NOW, because Michael Guerin is going to be here in 30 minutes to pick us up.” Maria finished standing with her hands on her hips over Liz’s bed.

Liz thought about that name. Michael Guerin? Who was that? So she asked Maria what she was thinking.

“Oh you remember him Liz, oh wait didn’t you know, he decided to change his last name back to his birth parents name. So I guess he is officially Michael Evans Guerin.” Maria looked at Liz to see if she remembered him now and she did.

“Oooohhhh, Michael! Wow I haven’t seen him in SO long. How did this come about?” Liz asked as she sat up in bed and stretched.

“Long story but basically the Jetta wasn’t going to be able to make the rough ride up to the ranch and Michael kindly offered to give us a lift. So get your ass out of bed girl because we have to get you ready for today!” Maria started running around Liz’s room packing a bag for her.

“Wait what about Alex, Maria?”

“He is on his way over Liz.”

“But Maria, there is no way my parents are going to agree to this so last minute.” Liz scoffed.

“Oh but they already have my fair Lizzie.” Maria said with a devilish smile on her face

Liz was appalled, “What! You mean they knew before me? What is this….an ambush??!”

“Oh I knew you went to Harvard for a reason Liz,” Maria patted Liz’s head. “Now come on you have to get ready and don’t even TRY to get out of this! You are coming I don’t want to hear one word about it!”

The look Maria gave Liz left little room for discussion. Maria had been an amazing friend to Liz, especially the past month, and Liz couldn’t deny her anymore. So she trudged out of bed and threw on the first thing she saw, much to Maria’s dismay. But Maria didn’t push it. She knew the fact that she even got Liz to go willingly was a triumph. Maria finished packing for Liz while Liz sat on her bed in a daze until the doorbell rang startling Liz out of her reverie.

“Hey Liz that must be Alex, will you run and get it while I finish here,”

With a silent nod Liz headed down to let her other best friend in. As she opened the door, she was not greeted with the sight she was expecting. Instead small brown eyes, she was met with big amber ones. Instead of pale white skin, she was met with bronzed olive skin. Instead of tall and lanky, she was met with shorter and built. She stared in awe for a second uncertain of who this amazing man in front of her could be. He looked slightly familiar to her but not enough to really register. He smiled uncertainly at her before another man slightly taller with lighter hair appeared next to him. She tore her gaze away from the mystery man in front of her and toward the other man and realized he was more than familiar to her. He was Michael.

Her face lit up at the sight of him, “Michael!” She exclaimed, hugging her old friend tight. She didn’t realize how good it would be to see him again, and suddenly she was glad Maria and her parents forced her into this. She pulled back from the hug and smiled at Michael again.

“How are you?!” She beamed at him.

He smiled back just as warmly, “Good, it’s good to see you Liz. But it’s a little cold.”

“Oh, oh, come in.” Liz ushered the two of them in.

“Uh, Liz you remember my little brother Maxwell?” Michael introduced only to be whacked on the arm by said brother.

“Oh excuse me, Max. You two were at Roswell High at the same time, right?”

It suddenly dawned on Liz who he was. Wow, he had grown up – A LOT! She vaguely remembered him from when she was a senior and he was a freshman. But the boy from then was not the man that was standing in front of her now. He was confident and strong. Liz was literally shocked speechless. She looked back to who she now knew was Max Evans and realized he had caught her gawking. She quickly averted her gaze praying for something or someone to break up the moment. Luckily for her she got both. Just as Maria waltzed out to say hello the doorbell rung again and Liz quickly used the opportunity to compose herself. Practically running to the door, she immediately opened it to see her other best friend Alex Whitman standing with a goofy grin on his face.

“Hey Liz, so it worked huh? You are…oof” Alex was stopped mid-sentence by the force of Liz Parker thrusting herself into his arms. He didn’t know why she did it and neither did she really, but a hug was exactly what both of them needed at that time due to the month of stress their relationship had endured because of Liz’s depression. Alex didn’t know what brought about this sudden change in Liz’s attitude but he was truly grateful for it. Liz still didn’t look like the vibrant beautiful Liz Parker he knew. Her hair was in a messy bun, her skin was abnormally pale, her eyes slightly sunken in and her clothes were baggy due to her loss of weight, but there was a spark in her eye that he hadn’t seen for a month or even longer maybe. The old friends stared at each other for a moment longer before Maria approached them with Michael and Max in tow.

“Chica’s you ready?”

“Maarrriiaa…I told you not refer to me as your chica in front of others!” Alex whined.

Maria and Liz just smiled at this. Alex was forever the boy friend and never the boyfriend. But they were convinced Alex would find his match and fall head over heels for the lucky girl.

Alex turned and walked out the door followed by Michael and Maria. Liz turned to leave but was confronted with Max’s eyes as they intently watched her. She smiled hesitantly suddenly self-conscious about the state she was in. She was a mess to put it simply and figured Max was just trying to figure out why she was in such a wreck. Or maybe he didn’t care at all. Then she realized she hadn’t even said one word to him because she was too busy admiring how he had “grown up,” so she decided she better make it right before he thought she was a total loser.

“Oh hey Max. I don’t think I said hello earlier. Sorry about that, I am kind of out of it today.” Liz smiled nervously and tucked a wayward piece of hair behind her ear. Now it seemed like Max was in a daze because he just continued to stare at her with those eyes. She had never noticed them before, of course she had never really noticed him too much before either. Well she did remember thinking how cute he was, but it was more like little boy cute back in high school, not handsome. Plus he was so much younger back then that she never would have even fathomed anything, but now here she was 23 years old and seeing him in a whole new light.

Max suddenly snapped back to reality and smiled slightly at Liz. A smile she found to be super sexy.

“Uh, yeah Liz, it’s been a really long time. It’s good to see you.” He finally got out. Sounding utterly calm and confident.

“Yeah it really has.” Liz continued to lock eyes with him but became very uncomfortable with how he was looking at her. Not like he was creepy or anything, more like he was looking at her like no one else had…ever. It unnerved her. He was 3 years younger than her. She was a college graduate and he was, presumably, still in college. How is it this boy she left behind in her youth could make an instant impact on her as a man. Not like it mattered, she thought. There was no way a guy like Max Evans would think twice about a girl like her. And what was she thinking anyway. She had just lost her grandmother, whom she loved dearly, less than a month ago and here she was already pining over boys! It disturbed her, so she pushed all thoughts of Max Evans and his new…manliness, or whatever, out of her mind for the time being.

Turning on her heel Liz walked out to Michael’s car where everyone was waiting and both Alex and Maria had inquisitive smirks on their faces. Liz disregarded their looks as the three of them squeezed into the back of Michael’s Ford Bronco with Max in the passenger seat. As the car peeled out of Roswell and on to Highway 285 toward Hondo, Liz stared out the window and thought to herself; ‘this is going to be an interesting night.’

Part 2

The ride out to Hondo was about three hours and Max took every opportunity he could to find out more about Liz…and Maria and Alex of course. Max didn’t know what is was about Liz, but the moment she opened the door at her house over an hour ago he got rush that he had only had one other time in his life. It was when he was 12 and his parents took him and his brother on vacation to California. It was there that he got to surf for the first time in his life, and after multiple falls he finally was able to ride a wave to the shore. He had surfed for years now and had taken on many waves big and small, but that feeling was something he knew he would never forget and was sure he would never feel again. Until now. Granted he knew it was a bit trite to be comparing attraction to a girl to riding a wave but he couldn’t help it. Up until this point he didn’t think anything, not even love, would come close to the exhilaration he felt in the water. Max assumed all this because he had been in love or was still in love…he wasn’t so sure anymore. Now with all these new feelings he didn’t know if what he felt was love at all or just comfort from being with the same person for so long.

Max had dated his high school sweetheart for all four years and the first year and a half of college. He loved her, he knew he did. She wasn’t his first kiss but she was his first everything else. Their recent break up was a mutual decision with him going to school in California and her in Texas, he thought it had become to difficult. He hadn’t even kissed another girl since they ended it two months ago and truth be told her was terrified. Max felt scared of being with someone else for a couple of reasons. One was because he was afraid his girlfriend or ex as it may be would be upset seeing as she hadn’t been with anyone either. He still loved her and didn’t want to hurt her, but he just wasn’t sure what he wanted. Then there was his big reason for fear, it was that fear of the unknown. He hadn’t experienced much without her by his side and that thought alone was scaring him and none of the girls he had met recently seemed to be able to calm that fear. That was until he saw Liz today. Just seeing her made him feel calm and comfortable in a way he hadn’t even felt with his girlfriend at times.

All these thoughts and feelings he was suddenly thinking about Liz had put Max in a quiet reverie. He was abruptly snapped out of it by his brother shoving him in the arm. Disgruntled Max looked over at Michael expectantly.

“Bro your phone is ringing.” Michael told Max.

Slightly confused for a moment Max then heard the piercing jingle of his cell phone and quickly pulled it out of his pocket without even looking to see who it was. “Oh, sorry. Umm…hello.”

“Hey Max!” A high-pitched voice squealed into his ear and vibrated throughout the small car.

“Oh…uh, hey Tess.” Max said becoming growingly uncomfortable with close audience he had in the backseat. He found himself slightly annoyed with Tess’ phone call and oddly comparing her high-pitched voice to Liz’s lower soothing one. Max shook his head in an attempt to get rid of those thoughts.

“What’s up Tess?” he inquired in a hushed voice.

“Nothing honey, I just wanted to call and wish you a happy New Year and I will miss you.” Tess said with sadness in her voice.

Max frowned at this, he didn’t want her to be unhappy ever. “Tess, it will be fine. You will have fun with your girls ok. I will call you tomorrow or something all right?”

“Yeah Max, have fun. I love you.” Tess started to end their conversation.

He and Tess did still use that term with each other because as far as they were concerned they were still in love. But suddenly Max felt weird saying it to Tess, but he knew if he didn’t reciprocate she would be hurt. So he sunk in his seat and tried to say it back quietly so he didn’t draw attention to himself.

“Love you too. Talk to you later, bye.”

“Bye.” Tess said before hanging up.

Max closed his phone and sat back up hoping no one had noticed what had just happened. He wasn’t so lucky however.

“Soooo Max. Was that the girlfriend!?” Maria exclaimed.

Max was so mortified he couldn’t even turn around to answer her. “Uh, well, ex-girlfriend.”

“Oh yeah I didn’t know ex’s still said ‘I love you’ to each other.” Max could hear the mirth in Maria’s voice and was searching for a response when Liz came to his defense.

“Oh Maria leave him alone. Just because you like for everyone to know what is going on in your life doesn’t mean everyone wants to share what is going on in theirs.” Liz laughed at Maria’s pout.

Max quickly turned around to smile a thanks to Liz and became totally enraptured in her gaze again. It was only when she uttered her last statement that he came back to reality.

“Let the boy be…” It was short statement, not much to it really. But the way she said ‘boy’ really peeved Max. He wasn’t a boy! He was a 20-year old MAN! The fact that this was how she saw him both hurt and angered Max. So he turned around in a huff and stared out the window. Ok so maybe now he was acting like a boy but he didn’t care. Max stared out the window as they drove past mile marker 65 and thought to himself with a smirk, “I’ll show Liz Parker just how much of a man I am.”

Chapter 3

Michael’s Bronco created a dust cloud as it rolled into Kyle’s ranch 2 hours later. The remainder of the car ride had consisted mostly of idle chatter. Most of which could be attributed to Maria’s incessant rambling. Liz had spent the car ride lamenting over the newfound information about Max’s girlfriend or ex or whatever she was. He was on the rebound, that much was clear to Liz. Even if she did have these strange unsettling feelings for Max, she knew that tonight would not be the night for anything to happen. Not that she really believed he could like a girl like her. Even though Max hadn’t specifically said, Liz knew who Tess was, she was sure of it. It was Tess Harding. She may be three years younger than Liz but Liz had seen and heard about how much Tess had “grown” up over the years. But none of that mattered anyway because Max was still in love Tess, he had said as much on the phone and Liz was in no state to compete with that. So she put on her bravest smile and stepped out of Michael’s car and headed toward the house.

“LIZZZZIIIEEE!” A slightly slurred male voice greeted her. She looked up to see Kyle Valenti with a huge smile on his face and his arms wide open ready to encircle her. She genuinely smiled at the sight and hurried up embrace her longtime friend. He was clearly intoxicated and acting silly but his positive energy was making Liz feel better by the minute.

Kyle let Liz go so he could go greet everyone else. Maria quickly grabbed Liz and pulled her inside excitedly. Immediately they were bombarded with many nostalgic faces and some they didn’t even recognize. It was so overwhelming for Liz. She had barely been around more than her mom and dad in the past month and here she was surrounded by people she hadn’t seen in years, months, or ever! She tightened her grip on her best friend. Maria sensed Liz’s uneasiness and smiled reassuringly at her and then behind her as she walked away.

Liz stood there mouth agape. She couldn’t believe her best friend had just abandoned her in her most desperate of times. Every nerve in her body was tense and she felt her body go into panic mode. Then out of nowhere a hand reached her back and it was like everywhere it touched suddenly relaxed and she felt at ease. She was grateful for the relief and assumed it must be Alex. She turned around to thank him, and for the second time that day instead of being met by Alex’s figure she was met with Max’s. Their eyes locked and she felt the heat rise all around her. ‘How did he do that?’ Liz thought to herself. She barely even knew him and he could make her feel this way. Max smiled down on her genuinely and suddenly she felt ok being there-at Kyle’s-with Max.

All of sudden Liz found herself at the kitchen table sitting in between Max and Kyle with Michael, Maria, Alex, Isabel Chantos, and Serena O’Brien rounding out the table. The music was blasting and they were about to start a game of “Kings”. It was a drinking game Liz hadn’t played since she left college in June but she was starting to get into the groove of things. It was only 5:00pm and Liz wasn’t planning on drinking too much, however, the game had other plans for the players.

1 hour later

“Kyle, ‘My penis is large’, does NOT rhyme with ‘I was driving in my car!’” Exclaimed Maria in between fits of hysterics.

“Yeah Kyle, and it is a BOLD exaggeration to say the least!” Erupted Liz. Her comment caused all eyes to turn to her. Two sets of amused one’s, two sets of confused one’s, one set of embarrassed one’s and a burning pair of jealous one’s. Liz turned away blushing.

“Liz…what are you talking about?” Asked a curious Serena.

“Oh! That’s right you and Kyle dated freshman year! I completely forgot!!” Exclaimed Isabel.

“You did?” Max tried to ask non-chalantley but did not succeed causing Maria to pin him with an inquisitive stare.

Liz was not so observant however and attempted to get herself out of this hole. Unfortunately the incessant alcohol she had just ingested was hazing her thoughts and she couldn’t think of a way to better the situation.

“Uh yeah, it wasn’t for very long, just a couple of months. We make better friends though.” Liz tried to explain-avoiding Max’s eyes that she knew were on her.

“Better friends than lovers huh?” Isabel replied with a smirk.

Liz was quick to shoot that down—“Oh! No, no, no! We were never…we ummm…it just wasn’t like that.” Liz stammered and just put her head down hoping the subject would change.

“Yeah so SEE Liz doesn’t know what she is talking about I am all man down there!” Kyle piped up to defend himself.

“Okkaayy Kyle…I think I am pretty much shitty now. So maybe we should move around a bit.” Michael wanted to break up this conversation ASAP.

“Yeah good idea…let’s go out to the barn Michael. We can play in the hay!” Maria wiggled her eyebrows and moved with Michael toward the door. The rest of the group laughed as they all got up and headed in their separate directions.

Liz was attempting to get up when she suddenly started spinning and was attempting the grab onto something when two smooth arms encircled her.

“Whoa there…you all right?” Max caught her before she could fall.

Liz looked up into his amber eyes and in her drunken haze she suddenly forgot all her reasons for wanting to stay away from Max Evans.

“Should we go out and get some air maybe?”

Liz nodded her head in return as Max took her hand and led her toward the back door. Once outside she felt completely refreshed. It was growing cold and dark already and Liz shivered as her skin came into contact with the cold night air. Before she could even really register her coldness Max had removed his fleece and place it over her head. Liz just looked straight ahead and smiled.

“Wanna sit?” He asked her.

“Yeah. Sorry about that in there. I guess I drank more than I thought and I haven’t eaten too much today so…”

“Yeah, no big deal. So Liz Parker, you graduated from Harvard and are working at Crashdown again. I have to say I never imagined a girl like you with so much ambition would end up back here.”

Liz turned her eyes away from him and Max kicked himself for saying something so stupid.

“I didn’t mean it like that Liz, I’m sorry, I usually don’t act this stupid. It’s just when I am talking to you I get all nervous and confused and I just have never been like this with a girl…ever”

Max chanced a look up after his little rant and was relieved by the sight he saw. Instead of contempt in her eyes he saw the real Liz Parker for the first time that day…maybe the first time ever. Her eyes were what got him most. They were big and expressive and seemed to see right through him and for the first time in his life he wanted to be transparent to someone. He wanted her to really see him. Even when he was with Tess all that time he had kept himself partially guarded because he figured no matter how much you loved someone a part of you would always be your own. But with Liz, all of sudden, he wanted that part of him to belong to her. He didn’t know where all these thoughts were coming from but he didn’t want to reject them any longer, so he leaned in toward Liz.

“Liz.” He left her name hanging in the air as she stared back at him as he inched closer to her lips.

Max closed his eyes as he approached, mere centimeters from her mouth when suddenly she exclaimed, “Rebound!”

He was jolted back to reality and opened his eyes to see her now startled one’s staring back at him.

“Rebound?” He questioned.

“Uh…Max, yeah, you are great but this is a bad idea. You are in…a relationship thingy and…I am not in a good place right now, so can we just talk or something.” Liz finally took a deep breath.

Max realized what the hold up was and tried to correct it. “Liz, about the Tess thing…”

“Max, you are only 20 years old, you are Michael’s “little” brother this…just can’t be anything, not even a “hook up” or whatever.” Liz finished while waving her hands about.

Max was shocked silent. He couldn’t believe she still hadn’t gotten over the age thing. Granted not much had taken place between them, but he knew there was a connection there and he knew she felt it too. But he was too pissed about what she had just said to rationally examine what other reasons may be behind the flimsy excuses she had just given him.

So he stood up in a huff and said, “Yeah Liz, ok, maybe I should just go inside and see if there are any ‘kids’ my age around. See ya.” Max walked back inside.

Liz followed him with her eyes, stunned. ‘What had she said?’ Yeah she had denied him but a part of her was hoping he wouldn’t listen and would just kiss her anyway…like in the movies. But this isn’t how the scenes ended in the movies she’d seen!

“So much for my happy ending…” she mumbled to herself miserably.

Chapter 4

As soon as Max entered the house he headed straight for the bar where he encountered an old friend that he didn’t care too much to talk to at the moment.

“Hey Max!” Pam Troy squealed excitedly at Max’s approaching figure.

“Oh…hey Pam.” Max barely greeted her as he reached for the Tequila. He began filling a shot glass and before Pam could even utter another word he was downing 3 shots in a row. Pam watched him with interest and tried to continue with the conversation.

“So…uh…I’m sorry about you and Tess. It’s too bad it couldn’t work out.” Pam hedged, waiting for his response, but Max was barely paying attention to her.

He just continued to stare straight ahead, thinking about what had just happened with Liz. “Yeah too bad,” he repeated as if it were nothing.

Pam on the other hand took it to mean something. Something important—Max wasn’t over Tess Harding. Pam and Tess hadn’t always been the closest of friends but when they both found out they were going to be attending the same college their friendship had blossomed and they had become inseparable at the University of Texas. Well…almost inseparable. Pam had opted to spend New Years at Kyle’s ranch because her boyfriend Paulie was going to and she just wanted to be with him. She had urged Tess to come but her and Max had agreed to spend the holiday apart and he had arranged to go there before Tess could even think about it. So Pam had hesitantly left her best friend behind at home with the very explicit instruction to keep an eye on Max and dig up any information she could to help Tess get back with Max. See while Max was under the impression that the break up was completely mutual, Tess did not see it that way. She wanted Max back, and as her best friend, Pam would do whatever she could to help her get him back.

Pam smiled at the thought of the new information she had picked up from Max and couldn’t wait to tell Tess how desperate he was without her. “Well Max I’ll just let you be, see you later,” Pam patted him on the back and sauntered off, leaving Max to stew. Only he wasn’t thinking about Tess, he was dwelling on what had happened with Liz.

Max continued to stare out the window. He could see Liz still sitting out there. Her back was to him. As the tequila started to cloud his senses Max made a snap, irrational, very “un-Max” like decision. He had vowed in the car that he would show Liz Parker that age meant nothing and he could handle a woman like her and he wasn’t going to back down now! With determination he set down his glass and stormed toward the door. He felt the cold air hit him the second he stepped out. A surprised Liz barely had time to turn around to see who had walked out before Max grabbed her arm and all but dragged her around the side of the house. Liz was startled to say the least but before she could question Max his previously rough demeanor turned tender as he cradled her face and spoke to her, mere breathes from her lips.

“Liz, I know you think I am young and this is weird to you. But it isn’t to me. It is probably the most natural, least scary thing I have ever done or attempted to do in my life. Everything you are thinking about me…and…and Tess or our age difference is wrong. There is something here…between us and I am not going to let it pass. I have spent too many years just living with the mediocre, the status quo, and now that I know that I could have so much more and feel so much more…I just can’t…” and before he could even finish his thought he just did it. He leaned in and pressed his lips to hers.

The second they touched Max felt as if the space around them was on fire. He knew kissing her would be amazing but this was far beyond what he had imagined for the last five hours. Max lightly brushed his tongue across her lips allowing him to taste the remnants of her strawberry lip-gloss. He relished the taste and silently prayed that she would grant him access. Not just to her mouth, but to her heart and soul. And to his complete surprise and maybe even hers…she did.

The second their tongues touched Max felt her shiver as she wrapped her fleece cover arms around his neck, bringing him even closer if that were possible. He held her so tight he was afraid he was going to bruise her, so as the need for air finally got the best of them he released his grip a little. As he leaned his forehead against hers and stared into those eyes he already adored he tried to regain his normal breathing pattern and waited anxiously for her to speak.

“Hmm…tequila huh?” she smiled at him. “Is that all it took to get you to do that?” She tilted her head slightly to the right.

Max was dumbfounded for a moment. ‘That’ is what she chose to say to him after the most mind-blowing; explosive, electrifying kiss EVER! He stared at her for another moment before giving her a smile of his own and replying, “Not just any tequila…Petrone.”

Liz laughed in response. A genuine whole-hearted laugh, something she hadn’t done in over a month, maybe even since June. Max may not have known it but for Liz it was the most amazing feeling.

“So…you want to go sit over on the side porch and talk?” Max asked cautiously. He may have been completely bold and brazen five minutes ago but now his drunken haze had worn off and Liz Parker was intimidating the hell out of him!

Liz smiled at his sudden shyness, “yeah that would great.”

Max let out a huge breath in relief and they walked over to the side porch swing which was on a side of the house that no one could see out to from inside. They sat down together and started talking about their lives as the swing lightly swayed. Gradually Liz became more comfortable so she took her shoes off and placed her feet and calves on top of Max’s thighs. Max leaned over and retrieved a blanket from a basket next to the swing and covered both of them with it. Time passed by in a blur of conversation about everything from school to sports and then to Tess.

“So how long did you and Tess go out for?” Liz started to broach the subject she had most wanted to discuss in these last couple of hours.

“Almost 5 years, we started dating sophomore year. For me it was like, she was my stability through everything. I mean when Michael went on his quest to find his birth parent’s, it was really hard for me. I thought he was rejecting me and I was too young and naïve to really understand or care. She provided me with something constant and reliable and I will always be thankful to her for that. But after awhile I think it became more of a comfort thing than anything else. I mean I love her, but I just don’t know if I was ever really ‘in’ love with her. I know it sounds cliché but I have come to realize it is true. I just still don’t want to hurt her, she is still one of my good friends.” Max finished softly.

He had been softly caressing Liz’s feet and lower legs the entire time they had been talking but he hadn’t realized while he had just been talking she had removed her legs from his lap and scooted closer, placing her hands there instead. He fiddled with her hands for a couple more minutes before glancing up at her. Max hadn’t been prepared for the sight that greeted him—complete and total understanding. No jealousy or uneasiness or distrust. She believed him, and even more so she believed ‘in’ him. He couldn’t help himself so he leaned over and softly placed his lips on hers for the second time that evening. This kiss, although not as desire driven, was just as passionate if not more so. He placed a few smaller kisses on her lips and forehead before pulling away and staring at her again.

“Liz, are you ok?” Max asked compassionately.

Liz was taken aback by the question. She didn’t quite understand where he was coming from. Seeing her questioning eyes Max pressed on.

“I mean, I can tell, something is off. I know we don’t know each other that well but there is just something…” Max left the thought hanging for a moment before finishing, “…missing.”

Liz looked away. She couldn’t believe he could read her like that. It unnerved but excited her at the same time. She hadn’t thought too much about her grandma in the last few hours but even without directly grieving for her the void was still apparent. Liz wanted to share this part of her with Max, she just didn’t know if she could handle it. Before she even knew what was happening tears were streaming down her pale skin and Max’s arms were holding her steadfast against him.

“Liz…I didn’t mean to…” Max started, but Liz stopped him by shaking her head into his chest and then pulling away slightly.

“No Max, it is fine. I just didn’t realize it was so obvious. I thought I was good at masking it. It’s just…my grandmother passed away a month ago and we were like kindred spirits you know? Two people created from the same soul. Like soul mates, and it is just still hard for me. It is like, I know the heart is just an organ that keeps us alive, but when I lost her…I felt pain there. Real pain. A hollowness that has lessened but still remains there now. I know it has been a month and I should move on but…” Max stopped her as he kissed a few of her tears away.

“Liz, you should NEVER feel guilty for missing someone, especially your grandmother, and while I am sure she will want you to move on in time, you will do it when you are ready to not when other people say you should, ok?” Max finished searching her eyes for understanding, wishing with every part of himself that he could help ease her turmoil. And to Liz’s amazement he did.

“You know when I was younger I used to say to my grandma all the time, ‘Grandma we are soul mates, we will be together forever.’ And you know what she would say to me?” Liz stared up at Max, as he shook his ‘no’.

“She would say ‘Liz we are soul mates but when we can no longer be together physically another person will fill that space in your life and you will realize in life there are soul mates whose souls are created from one soul like us, and then there are soul halves whose souls come together to create a single soul stronger and more beautiful than either soul was alone.’” Liz looked up at Max to see if he was still following her and saw his eyes riveted to hers, so she continued.

“I never truly believed her…until…until…” she stammered with the end of her sentence but Max pushed her on.

“Until when Liz?” He questioned her with hopeful eyes.

Liz opened her mouth to finish when a loud shrill from around the corner caused them jump and subsequently move apart.

“Maaaxxxx! Are you out here?” A loud familiarly disconcerting voice penetrated the thin night air and then suddenly there she was standing in front of them…Tess Harding.

Chapter 5

“Surprise!” Tess exclaimed as she grabbed a hold of a helpless Max and began to hug him fiercely. It was only once she had release him that she noticed Liz, now on the complete other end of the swing. Tess eyed her suspiciously then looked back at Max and then once again at Liz.

“Oh…hey Liz, how are you?” Tess asked with insincere curiosity.

“Umm…all right.” Liz responded hesitantly.

Tess suspected she had stumbled upon something, what she wasn’t sure of yet. As she looked between the two faces she inquired, “What is going on here?”

Max was quick to answer, “Nothing! Just some friendly conversing is all. Liz was telling me all about Harvard. Remember how I was thinking of going to there at one time?” Max tried to cover their tracks. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to tell Tess he just wanted to let her down more gently. He didn’t know why she was there and he wanted to find out more before he completely broke her heart.

“Oh yeah, but he couldn’t have handled the winters there.” Tess responded and then placed her hand on his chest and began rubbing on it in a circular motion. “My Max is a true surfer boy at heart. You wouldn’t know it by the looks of him but you would by the body, if you know what I mean.” Tess finished cackling, causing Max to outwardly cringe not out of spite but out of worry for what Liz would think. And he was right to worry. Liz had heard and seen enough. She abruptly stood and smiled at Tess avoiding Max’s pleading gaze.

“Yes…well, it was great catching up. Glad I could be of some service to you Max, don’t worry you didn’t miss much. It only could have been the best experience of your life.” With a tight smile Liz started to walk off but not before Max grabbed her arm. He hadn’t missed the double meaning in her last statement.

“Liz…” she turned to look at him with such intensity that he couldn’t tell if she was just hurt or actually hated him now. He was at a loss for words though but he knew he needed to say something to stop this from spiraling out of control, so he turned around to face to Tess while still maintaining his grip on Liz.

“Tess…Liz and I…” but he didn’t get to finish because Maria, Michael, Isabel and Alex chose that moment seek out Liz.

“Liz! There you are!” Maria drunkenly embraced her friend. “It is almost midnight, come on, we have go inside and watch the ball…” Maria suddenly spotted Max and Tess. “…Drop. Tess…when did you arrive?” Maria inquired, barely masking her disdain.

“Ah…just now actually.” Tess replied slightly intimidated. She had heard horror stories about ‘Hurricane Deluca’ and the destruction it could leave in its wake.

Maria averted her gave from Tess to pin Max with a glare. But Max didn’t back down so Maria took hold of the arm Max was currently holding and grabbed Liz to pull her inside. Liz didn’t protest and she didn’t look back.

After the girls had left Michael said a quick hello to Tess and shot Max with an inquisitive stare to which Max could only shrug.

“Ok, we better get inside, it is almost midnight. You two coming?” Michael asked.

Tess stood to follow but Max stopped her, “We’ll be there in a minute.”
Michael nodded his understanding and ushered Alex and Isabel around the corner and inside.

Once Max heard the back door close he proceeded to question Tess.

“Tess what are you doing here? We agreed to spend New Years apart.”

“I know Max but I heard you were upset and you missed me and I just couldn’t bare…”

“What?” Max exclaimed

Tess looked at Max befuddled, “Well Pam called and said you miserable and drinking heavily and brooding and that you were clearly upset about us being apart and so I rushed up here so I could be with you because I know we said we would try being apart but clearly it is not making you any happier.” Tess finished while stroking Max’s cheek.

Max took a deep breath. ‘Ok this was it, it was now or never.’ He didn’t want to hurt her but he was not going to lie to her or pretend, so he gently removed her hand from his cheek and placed it in her lap.

“Tess…this is not going to be easy to say because I care about you a lot. I really do, but earlier, what Pam saw, she totally misinterpreted.”

Tess looked at Max with hurt in her eyes, “You mean you weren’t miserable and upset and drinking incessantly because I don’t know why Pam would make that up.” She looked at Max questioningly.

“No I was all those things…but…well…it wasn’t exactly you I was upset about. It was…Liz.” He finished exhaling deeply as he finally ventured a good look at her. She stood with a stoic expression masking her features so he forged ahead.

“Tess I will always love you. You have been so amazing to me…for me, but we are just not meant to be together…like that. Not anymore. I don’t want to hurt you, I never did, and I think that is why I held on for so long because I care about you too much to see you upset. But you deserve better than this, better than the friendship I feel for you. I’m sorry.”

Tess stared out into the distance for a while and then she turned to him and did the last thing in the world he expected her to do…she slapped him. It wasn’t a hard slap, you could almost call it a play fight slap but he was shocked nonetheless and when he finally recovered from the shock and turned to look at her she did the second to last thing in the world he expected her to do…she smiled. It wasn’t a big smile; just a little one but he appreciated it just the same.

“Sorry, I felt like I had to do that for some dramatic reason. I didn’t hurt you did I?” She went to touch his slightly tender cheek.

He chuckled slightly, “No, no, it’s fine. So what does this mean?”

“It means…I love you too Max and it may take awhile but I think I can get to the place you are at now and we can be friends again.”

Max beamed at her response and quickly embraced her. She was a lot more mature than he ever gave her credit for.

“Thank you Tess, thank you so much.” He whispered as he let go of her, not just for now but forever.

“Yeah, well, that Liz Parker is one lucky chick to have you all in a tizzy over her.”

“Yeah, I don’t know if she sees it that way really…”

“Well we better head inside to see the New Year come around.” Tess started walking toward the back.

“Yeah you go ahead I’ll be right in.” Max told her.

“All right. Bye Max.”

“Bye Tess.” And with that she turned around to walk in and wait for the New Year to come around.

Meanwhile inside the house…

Once Maria had successfully dragged Liz inside the house she immediately bombarded her with questions.

“What happened with you and Max? Did you make out? Did you have sex? What is Tess doing here? Are they back together? Is he two-timing her? Is he two-timing you?!” Maria only stopped when Liz placed her hand over her best friends mouth.

“Maria breath…good…now sniff this.” Liz pulled out the extra vile of cypress oil she had in her back pocket and handed it to Maria. What could she say when you had a best friend like Maria, you always had to come prepared. Maria gladly sniffed the refreshing oils, ‘cleansing’ her spirit for the moment.

“Ok in answer to your questions…not much, yes, no, I don’t know, maybe, possibly, and I guess not.” Liz thought about it a moment longer to make sure she hadn’t forgotten a question then looked back at Maria when she noticed some yellowish stuff poking out of her hair. Liz went to grab and when she realized what it was she cracked a little smile. Even in her distraught state she could appreciate this scene.

“Straw-hay Maria? Has someone been rolling around in the barn with the pigs?” Liz nudged her friend in the arm causing Maria to blush for a quick second, which piqued Liz’s interest because Maria Deluca NEVER got embarrassed over anything or anyone.

Maria began picking the excess straw out of her blonde locks and disposing of it on the floor. “Pig is putting it nicely.” She mumbled and continued, “Anyway, enough about me, I want to know what happened. You made-out? How was it? Do you like him?”

“Maria enough with the all the questions!” Liz exclaimed.

“Well Liz…” but Liz was saved by none other than Michael who strode up behind Maria wrapping his arms around her waist quickly causing her to lose her train of thought.

Now Liz was really intrigued. No one had EVER been able to silence Maria Deluca like that before.

“The ball is about to drop, come on babe, let’s go watch.” Michael whispered in her ear.

Forgetting everything they were just discussing Maria turned around to Michael to smile before turning back to Liz and embracing her.

“It’ll be ok Liz, you’ll see, 2006 will be a better year.” Maria whispered in her friend’s ear before squeezing her shoulders and walking off with Michael to get a better view of the TV.

Liz looked around and saw everyone coupled up—Michael and Maria, Pam and Paulie, Serena and Sean, Isabel and Alex…Isabel and Alex! Liz did a double take. ‘Well how about that’ she thought. As she kept looking around she suddenly felt the most alone she ever had. She couldn’t bare to see when Max and Tess would come back in and share a new year’s kiss so she turned and walk out the front door toward the barn. As she closed the door she heard the faint rumblings of people cheering, ‘3…2…1…Happy New Year!’ and for the second time that night she cried, but this time Max wasn’t there to kiss away her tears.

Chapter 6

Max entered the house right as the tune of “Auld Lang Syne” began to vibrate through the house and he had to duck a couple of times to avoid the drunken champagne corks that were flying everywhere. He scanned the room searching for some sign of Liz, but got distracted for a moment when he saw Tess and Kyle sitting cozily on the couch together. He found some relief in that. He knew she would be taken care of. He continued his scan of the room but he didn’t see her anywhere. He sighed in defeat. This was not how he pictured ringing in the New Year. Since they had arrived he kept envisioning him and Liz counting it down together while staring into each other’s eyes and sharing a sweet kiss to welcome in 2006. But that was all shot to hell now, and it was all his doing.

Suddenly Max caught a distant figure through a window out of the corner of his eye. It was headed toward the barn and he knew with every ounce of his being that it was Liz. Max grabbed a bottle of champagne and two glasses and immediately headed out the door to catch up with her hoping he could somehow salvage the start of this New Year.

Liz approached the barn carefully. To be honest she was a bit jumpy being out on this big ranch by herself at night. She stepped into the silent barn and sat on a bale of hay. There were no animals this time of year because Mr. Valenti couldn’t tend to them, so he sold them off in the fall and acquired new one’s in the spring. Liz felt her overcoming sadness once again and thought she was about to cry when suddenly the creak of the barn door frightened her so bad that she fell right off of the haystack she was sitting on.

“Oh my gosh, Liz, are you ok, I didn’t mean to scare you.” Max ran over to help Liz get up but just as he was reaching her she popped up on her own. Max wasn’t going to lie, it stung a bit but he was more determined now to set things right with her.

“Liz we need to talk…” he started.

“No we really don’t Max. I totally understand, it was nothing, it meant nothing, and we mean nothing…” Liz rattled on as she brushed herself off.

“It means everything…you mean everything Liz. I know it seems quick to say that but I have connected more with you in 5 hours that I did with Tess in 5 years. I thought you felt the same way, I thought you got me.” Max stared into her eyes pleading for understanding.

“Well me too, but clearly not seeing as you just brushed me aside within seconds once Tess showed up.” Liz was trying not to act hurt but she was, deeply. She had shared more with Max in those last couple of hours that she had with Maria and Alex in months.

“Liz that wasn’t it, just look at me when I say this, and if you don’t believe then…well…ok, but I have to try.” When he got no objection from Liz he proceeded.

“Ok, so Tess showing up was obviously just as much a shock to me as it was to you but not because I didn’t want her to know about you. I told you I care about her. She has helped me through some rough spots and I just…I didn’t want to break her heart and mortify her all at the same time because if I had said it right then that is what would have happened. And while I care about you…a lot…I am not willing to do that to any person…least of all someone who has been so supportive of me. I’m sorry I hurt you, I didn’t want to, I was just caught off guard. But I told her, about her and me being over for good, about you and me and whatever it is with us. She knows everything and now you do too and I just wanted one thing for new years and now it is completely ruined and I just feel like shit instead.” Max finished hoping she would trust him again.

“What thing Max?” When Max looked at her confused she stepped closer to him and clarified. “What was the thing you wanted for new years?” she asked again.

Max smiled softly at her as he cupped her cheeks with his hands. “You. It was you Liz.”

“So let’s pretend Max.” Max once again looked at Liz confused.

Liz looked into his eyes and started slowly, nervously, “10...9…8…7…” Max caught on to what she was doing and joined her, “6…5…4…3…” Their low voices turned to hushed whispers as their lips descended toward one another, “2…” That was as far as they got before sheer need and desire won over and they became entangled in each other, falling over into a pile of hay.

For a moment Liz thought of Maria and Michael probably in this same hay and began to laugh hysterically which made Max suddenly self-conscious. So to ease his mind Liz had to explain what was making her laugh which in turn caused him to erupt with mirth. When they had finally settled down Max grabbed the champagne and popped it open as it fizzed everywhere, pouring them each a glass.

“Well you sure were confident?” Liz smirked.

“Actually I was hopeful. I am confident with many things, but with you Liz Parker, I am just eternally hopeful.” Max smiled down on her causing her smile shyly in return.

“Happy New Year Liz.”

“Happy New Year Max”

Suddenly her shyness though turned to pure need as she grabbed Max’s face and brought it back down to her own. He immediately responded placing himself almost fully on top of her without crushing her. This time kisses grew more intense and passionate with each passing second. Max moved from her lips to just behind her ear where he nipped and licked until he had her moaning in utter pleasure.

“Awww…Max!” He had found her spot and he was going to remember that forever. But he kept moving down, toward her neck where he bit her ever so slightly like a vampire in a feeding frenzy. He was hungry. He was hungry for her. There was so much desire pent up in him from the entire day he hadn’t even realized it until he had started on this quest of her body. Suddenly he found his hands itching to touch her, skin to skin. So he kissed his way back up to her mouth and then pulled a way a moment to ask her if it would be ok to go further, but before he even had the chance Liz was already removing the fleece he had given her earlier and placing it behind her back so she wouldn’t get scratched from the hay before removing her red sweater. Max stared at her in awe for a moment.

Liz smiled that sweet shy smile at him and he couldn’t hold out any long so with one deft kiss to Liz’s mouth he moved his way down to her black lace covered breasts. He silently thanked the gods for making front clasped bras and carefully unsnapped it so that she would be revealed to him. She gasped a little as the cold air hit her sensitive nipples only taunting Max more by making them tighten up. With one last reassuring look from Liz Max quickly covered her bare chest with his mouth and his hands simultaneously, eliciting soft moans from Liz which only drove Max further.

After enjoying the taste of Liz for a while he made his way back up to her mouth, craving her lips and her kiss. But he didn’t get to enjoy it very long because Liz quickly took the opportunity to turn him onto his back where she straddled him while helping him out of his shirt. Max couldn’t believe how confident she was as she started kissing her way down his chest lightly biting at his flesh as she went. ‘So this is what they meant by older and more experienced’ he thought. He didn’t know how much ‘more experienced’ she was nor did he want to know but he knew she was doing something right because he was about ready to explode when she took him into her mouth and let him do just that.

Max laid there in pure ecstasy for a few minutes as Liz crawled back up his body and cuddled closely beside him. It wasn’t until he felt her shiver that he came back down to earth.

“Are you cold?” He asked concerned.

“No, no, you keep me warm just fine.” She smiled at him.

He laughed, “Ditto, that was just…wow.”

“Yeah” she sighed dreamily.

Then the two of them locked eyes again and just when they were about to start round 2 they heard something from outside. Not just something, voices. Two very distinct voices and they were getting closer.

“Oh Shit!” They whisper.

They quickly started scrambling to gather their belongings. Liz grabbed her bra and started to fasten it as Max slipped his shirt over his head and grabbed the fleece and her sweater. However, Liz was so frazzled she couldn’t even fasten her bra so Max stepped over to her and did it for her. Liz smiled at him and said thanks before rewarding him with a quick peck on the lips. He smiled and handed her her sweater as he grabbed her hand and ran to duck behind some bales of hay in the back of the barn. Once they were hidden Liz quickly threw her sweater over her head and listened as the barn door opened.

“It kinda smells in here…” the female intruder stated while scrunching her nose

“Yeah well with what I am about to do to you, you won’t even remember what planet you are from…” he grabbed her as she shrieks and laughs.

“Oh Kyle…” Tess exclaimed kissing him as they fell into the hay that was previously occupied by Max and Liz and Michael and Maria.

Things started getting hotter and Max and Liz looked at each other uncertainly as they heard Kyle moan, “Oh yeah baby, oh yeah…” thinking to themselves, “oh shit baby, oh shit.”

Hi Everyone! Here is a new part, I hope it is ok! I just want to say THANK YOU so much to everyone who has given me feedback and enjoyed this fic! I really appreciate what you all have to say! Thanks a bunch! Now here you go...

Chapter 7

Liz was mortified as the moans of pleasure grew louder and louder from both Kyle and Tess. She ducked her head in Max’s chest hoping to muffle the cries of joy but was unsuccessful.

Max was equally as uncomfortable listening to his ex-girlfriend pleasure some other guy. He wasn’t jealous at all, which pleased him, but it was just…weird.

“Max!” Liz hissed as quietly as possible. “What are we going to do?! What if they decide to go even further? Oh my gosh I feel like a total perv!”

Max looked around to see if he could find another way out but to his disappointment there was no other way. Just then they heard the screams intensify so Max made a split second decision and threw a rock from the ground toward the entrance of the barn, creating a loud thump.

“Max…what…”Liz was cut off by Max’s hand and him signaling her to stay quiet.

As Kyle and Tess heard the noise of the rock they came to from their sex haze, “What the hell…” Kyle exclaimed, standing up shirtless looking around the barn.

“What was that Kyle?” a now fully dressed Tess stood up and cowered behind him.
“I don’t know, must have been a coyote or something…” his thoughts wondered off not realizing he had said the magic words.

“A COYOTE!” Tess screeched. “There are wild animals out here?? Kyle Valenti, you did not bring me out to barn where wild animals could attack us just to hook up did you??!!” Tess stood with her hands on her hips waiting for a response from Kyle.

Kyle looked at her helplessly, “Uh…no?” he questioned.

Tess scoffed at him and stormed out of the barn as Kyle grabbed his shirt and went chasing after her, “Tess…”

There was silence again and then laughter erupted breaking it. Both Liz and Max were rolling on the ground laughing hysterically.

“I…I…can’t believe this just happened,” Liz continued to laugh as Max started to sober up and just stared down on her laughing form.

As Liz began to sober up as well Max started picking hay out of her hair and confessed to her, “You are so beautiful Liz, like so naturally, amazingly beautiful. I never knew inner beauty could really come through in a person physically, but with you…it does.” He finished staring at her intensely.

Liz lay there completely speechless. She had never really had a guy tell her she was beautiful much less profess it to her in such a statement. So Liz showed her appreciate the only way she knew how and reached up and kissed him softly and sweetly. It quickly turned more intense as Max’s tongue sought out hers and found it. They continued on like this for a while, switching between soft and sweet kisses and more lustful needy one’s. Finally Max released her for a moment and spoke.

“Let me return the favor.” He said simply and knowingly. When Liz looked at him questioningly he just nodded his head down toward her lower region. Liz couldn’t contain the smirk that came to her lips at his shyness to say the words, so she continued to play innocent.

“What are you talking about Max? You wanna...give me a foot rub?” She continued to razz Max as he caught on and ducked his head in embarrassment.

“Lizzzz…” he all but whined at her.

“What Max?” she continued to play but was bursting with laughter.

So Max took a deep breath and looked her straight in the eyes, “Let me pleasure you Liz, like you did me.” He thought that was a smooth line, he had heard it in movies, but Liz however found it completely hysterical.

Max didn’t find the situation very funny and his repeated attempts to get Liz to stop laughing only egged her on. First he tried the whole ‘stare into her eyes’ thing to which she bubbled over with laugher again. Then he tried seducing her by kissing a trail down her neck but even that hadn’t worked as she continued to shake with amusement. Finally Max huffed and slumped down next to her. How is he going to be taken seriously now? All he wanted was to make her feel as good as she had made him. Then it came to him – her spot. He knew he had taken note of it for a reason, if this didn’t get her to stop laughing then he was turning in his card as a member of the male race.

As Liz continued in her hysterics Max leaned above her once again and smirked at her. His sly look got Liz’s attention and she started calming down a bit but not completely.

“What Max?” She asked in between laughs.

With that question Max descended his lips to that ‘spot’. The special place every girl has that automatically makes her weak in the knees. Liz’s was just behind her ear as he had discovered earlier and he wasted no time pulling out all the stops to get her to surrender to him.

At first she seemed to be resisting, but he kept at it and within minutes his work paid off as he was rewarded with the most beautiful sound; her aroused moan. The sound was like a breath of fresh air for Max and he felt renewed in his quest to make Liz feel the most ecstasy she ever had. Max moved back to her mouth and kissed her there.

“Now that I have your attention (kiss) I am going to show you (kiss) that what I said earlier (kiss) was nothing to laugh at.” He finished with one final resounding kiss before making his descent northward and holding good to his promises. By the time he was done Liz didn’t remember a thing about what she was laughing at and she definitely didn’t remember EVER feeling the way Max just made her feel. Mission Accomplished.

Finally able to keep their horny hands off each other long enough Liz and Max headed back to the party and the rest of their friends. To be honest Liz was slightly nervous to go back into this party with Max, not because she was ashamed or anything, but because she really liked Max and she had never brought a guy around all her friends that she really liked. She just didn’t want to mess that up.

The twosome entered with Max’s arm draped around Liz but the second Maria took notice of them Liz casually shrugged away from his embrace and smiled at her friend as she walked over to them with Michael in tow.

“Hey you two!” Maria greeted them brightly while trading suspicious glances between them both.

“HI!” Liz exclaimed nervously.

Maria had to stifle a laugh at Liz’s awkward behavior. ‘She must really like him, no one gets under Liz’s skin like this’ she thought to herself.

“You guys wanna come play some Jenga with a few of us?” Maria inquired.

“Sure!” Liz replied nervously once again and sauntered off as Michael trailed behind her leaving Max and Maria to follow.

Maria grabbed Max’s arm, “She must really like you Max.”

Max looked at her confused, “How do you figure that with the way she just blew me off?”

“Are you kidding? That wasn’t her blowing you off, she is nervous, you make her come undone. No one, and I mean NO ONE has ever had that effect on Liz Parker, and with how tightly she is wound I can definitely tell you it is a good thing.” Maria told Max which caused a smile to creep onto his face.

“Now come on, you are going to LOVE this game!” Maria dragged Max toward the circle.

Max took a seat next to Liz and suddenly he noticed what she was talking about. Instead of the cool calm Liz he had seen back in high school and even earlier today. He now saw her playing with her ring on her finger and her necklace and her hair – she was nervous over him! He couldn’t help how happy that information made him. He turned back to the circle with a full-blown smile on his face and took notice of who else was occupying it.

He saw Michael, Maria, Alex, Isabel, Serena, Sean, Tommy Hoag and Madeline Arbor. In fact he realized, it was all couples, he then looked over at Maria suspiciously as she smiled in return. His attention was then suddenly pulled toward Liz.

“Owwww.” Liz hissed as she held her head in pain.

Max became alert and quickly began rubbing her shoulder and trying to figure out what was wrong.

“Liz, what’s wrong? What is it? Liz, talk to me.” Max started firing off question as the whole group stared on, amazed at how attentive he was.

Liz continued to rub her head and then the pain began to subside and she looked up into Max’s concerned eyes and smiled.

“It’s ok Max, I just got a weird sharp pain in my head for a moment, but it is going away now.” Liz tried to calm him down. “Don’t worry I am fine, ok?”

Max regarded Liz warily, “Are you sure? You were in a lot of pain a minute ago. Maybe you should lie down.” Max started pulling Liz up but she quickly protested, not wanting to make a spectacle of herself.

Liz laughed, “Max, seriously it is fine. This has happened before, it is just fatigue or something. Please let it go, ok?” Liz looked at him with hopeful eyes and he just could resist.

“All right if you are sure.” Max replied as he took his seat next to her again and they all turned their attention toward Maria.

“Ooookkaaayyy.” Maria started, “This is a little something I like to call ‘Sex Jenga’”

Nine heads whipped around to regard the ruby lipped smiling diva as they exclaimed all at once, “WHAT!”

Stay tuned for 'Sex Jenga'

Chapter 8

Maria rushed to explain as participants started getting up to leave, “Ok ok, it isn’t exactly ‘sex’ per se but sexual acts kinda.” Still no one was getting it. “All right I will go first and show you.” Maria reached and removed a Jenga piece. Once she had successfully done so she read what is said out loud.

“Kiss on the cheek.” Maria smiled and gave Michael a quick kiss on the cheek. “See it is innocent really and we only do what the block says with our partners, no one else, ok?” Maria looked around hoping no one would back out now. She had strategically placed the ‘kiss on the cheek’ block just to convince them to play. Little did they know things were going to get dirtier.

Finally everyone agreed except one.

“Maria aren’t we a bit old to be playing what is essentially a glorified version of spin the bottle?” Liz questioned her best friend.

Maria knew she would be the toughest to crack.

“Awww…Liz come on! All the cool kids are doing it!” Maria whined at her friend.

Liz couldn’t contain the smirk from forming on her lips and finally conceded.

“Great!” Maria clapped her hands together eager to get started. “Serena you go first.”

“Ok.” She started and pulled a block that said ‘straddle your partner – make out for 1 minute’. At first Serena looked appalled but with a heavy buzz going it didn’t take much for her to give in.

It continued around like this for a while and Liz couldn’t believe that people were doing this stuff in front of everyone. Why is it people, at any age, needed games like this as an excuse to get off on each other in public. She really didn’t want her or Max to pull a block like the Serena’s or Alex’s ‘lick whip cream off your partners neck’.

Liz was suddenly snapped out of her daze by Maddie who was nudging her and telling her to go. So Liz very carefully pulled a block from the center of the tower as Max nervously looked on. They still didn’t know what the “penalty” was if they knocked the tower down. Luckily or unluckily maybe, Liz was successful in pulling out her block. She smiled at her own success and read what was written which quickly caused her smile to turn to a frown.

“Do a strip tease!” Liz exclaimed to the group causing some gasps and one notable shriek of delight. Liz turned to the offender.

“Maria! I am not doing that…in front of everyone!” Liz exclaimed exasperated.

“Oh yes you are honey, I was hoping and praying you would get this one and you did! Let’s go girl, shake what your momma gave you, and show us some skin! I hope you aren’t wearing a thong!” Maria ran away to go put on some music while Michael and Alex hoisted Max up into a chair. Michael knew this would be entertaining to say the least. He just wanted to see Max squirm. How he loved Maria for this, whoa where did that come from?

Liz and Max both sat frozen in their respective positions on the floor and in the chair while the rest of the group looked on in excited anticipation. Maria finally came running back over with a boom box and CD in hand and once again smiled at her best friend. She actual felt a little bad for Liz. She knew how shy she was about this stuff but thought it would be good for her and Max in the long run. So she quickly grabbed Liz’s arm and dragged her over to the bar.

“Listen Liz, I know this seems embarrassing and crazy but you HAVE to do it! It will be good for you!” Maria tried convincing her but Liz kept looking at her like she was crazy. ‘Ok’ Maria thought, ‘this calls for desperate measures.’

Maria poured a double shot of Bacardi 151 while Liz wasn’t looking and handed it to her. It was the strongest alcohol there and she knew it would have Liz loosening up within minutes.

“Here drink this.” Maria shoved the shot toward Liz.

“What is it?” “It’s uh…Tequila, just drink it, it will chill you out.” Maria soothed her fears.

“All right.” Liz wearily took the shot down only to start into a coughing fit.

“Maria (cough) that was not (cough) tequila (cough).” Liz gasped for air.

Maria looked on innocently, “Oh it wasn’t? I could have sworn…oh oops. It was 151.” She smiled.

“151!” Liz screeched, her vocal cords still tainted with alcohol. “Maria what do you…” all of sudden Liz’s world swayed a little bit and she was sure she was going to fall straight on her ass until she felt two warm hands grasp at her partially bare midriff. She didn’t even need to turn around to know who those hands belonged to. She had already memorized their size, their texture, and their strength. They were Max’s.

Liz turned in his arms and felt the sudden urge to take him back out to that barn and feel his hand all over her, but his next words brought her out of her sexual reverie.

“Liz you ok? You know you really do not have to do this.” He looked at her concerned. They had just gotten things right again and he didn’t want to mess them up so quickly. Not that he didn’t want to see her strip for him, he did, he REALLY did, but if she wasn’t comfortable then he wasn’t. And to be honest he really didn’t want everyone else to see her strip.

“No, no Max! It was a challenge, I never back down from a challenge. And you know…I sort of want to see you get all hot and bothered in front of a room full of our friends.” She smirked and walked away towards the group.

Max looked on and thought to himself, ‘oh shit, how am I gonna handle this! Everyone is going to see me get all…hot and bothered as she said.’ Reluctantly he followed her back to the group and resumed his position in his chair where Liz stood in front of him with a huge grin on her face.

I hope you all liked it! I know it is short but Liz is about to get "dirrty" so come back for that!

Chapter 9

Maria quickly pressed play before her best friend lost her nerve and clapped her hands together cheering her girl on, “Yeah Liz, you do it girl!”

The first notes registered in Liz’s hazy mind and she let out a small giggle at the song choice. Soon the smooth R&B tune started vibrating through the small room and everyone looked on expectantly.

Take a good look at it
Look at it now

Liz started off slowly just swaying to the music and staring at Max. It was just the beginning and Max already felt ‘things’ begin to ‘stir’ so to speak. But she continued and started lifting her hands above her head so some of her taut stomach became exposed to him.

Might be the last time you’ll
Have a go round
I’ll let you touch it if you’d
Like to go down
I’ll let you go further
If you take the southern route

Liz continued her seductive dance moving behind Max and placing her hands on his chest and nibbling on his ear for a moment. Max closed his eyes in ecstasy and forgot there were other people in the room at all as Liz continued to touch and tease him.

Don’t go too fast
Don’t go too slow
You’ve got to let your body flow
I like ’em attentive
And I like ’em in control

Liz moved back in front of Max and brought his hands to the hem of her shirt for a moment, where he eagerly went to rip it off but she stopped him for a second while she went to straddle him. He looked at her confused for a moment but then she whispered, “Wait a second.”

Baby it’s yours
All yours
If you want it tonight
I’ll give you the red light special
All through the night
Baby it’s yours
All yours
If you want it tonight
Just come through my door
Take off my clothes
And turn on the red light

As the words registered in Max’s head he looked at Liz expectantly and she gave him a slight nod as he greedily grabbed at her shirt and took it off of her. After her bra became exposed Liz got off of Max and continued to dance and circle around him. His eyes riveted to her every movement.

I know that you want me I can
See it in your eyes
You might as well be honest ’cause the
Body never lies

Liz was behind Max now and as that verse played she reached down his chest and came dangerously close to the area of Max’s body that was NOT lying about how Liz was turning him on right then. But he didn’t even notice or care that other people were there and seeing it as well. After teasing him Liz continued her seduction.

Tell me your secrets and i’ll
I’ll tell you mine
I’m feelin’ quite sexy
And I want you for tonight
If I move too fast just let me know
’cause it means you move too slow
I like some excitement
And I like a man that goes

Liz stood back in front of Max and kicked her shoes off to either side of the room, then proceeded to place her left sock covered foot on Max’s right thigh indicating for him to remove it. He quickly complied, gingerly holding her ankle while he removed the thin white fabric. When he finished Liz placed her other foot there for him to repeat his actions. Once barefoot she went and sat on Max’s lap placing his hands around her bare waist so she could lean backwards as he held her to him. Wiggling and gyrating as she went. Max was almost as his breaking point as he struggled to maintain some control.

If you want me
Let me know it
I’ll make time but
You’ve got to show it
If you need me
I want to see
But don’t mistake me
I don’t want you down on your knees
I need someone a real man
I need someone who understands
I’m a woman a real woman
I know just what I want
I know just who I am

Liz knew she was getting to the end and had yet to discard her final piece of clothing - her pants. She vaguely remembered that she was wearing black lace bikini’s and was pretty sure her bikini line was good so she slowing started unbuttoning the top button of her jeans giving Max a quick peak of what was to come, but that was about all that Max could take. He jumped up, startling Liz and the rest of the group who had been sort of entranced by the whole scene, and grabbed her hands before she could get any further on her pants and virtually dragged her to the back room where they could be alone. As he slammed the door behind them, he quickly pinned her to it and began kissing her wildly. They barely registered the faint notes and words as the song wound down.

Baby it’s yours
If you want it tonight
Just come through my door
Take off my clothes
And turn on the red light
