Chapter 9
“Thanks for talking to me, Michael.” Liz said lying onon her bed.
“No problem, Liz.” Michael replied.
“ It’s just I needed someone to talk to and you just popped in my head.”
“Like I said no problem, but I do have on question to ask.”
“What is it Michael?” Liz asked.
“Why didn’t you talk to Maria, Isabel, or even Alex about this? They obviously know more than me about this subject.”
“I don’t know,” Liz said thinking hard, “ I just knew that they would over react in some way. Well thanks for listening, but I should go it’s really late.”
Michael didn’t reply. He kept thinking about she said she didn’t want to talk to anyone else because they would over react. Didn’t she know him by now? He was the king of over reacting and doing whatever came to his mind. Now, after what Liz had told him, he wanted to kick the shit out of Max.
“Michael?” Liz asked getting a little worried.
“Huh? Oh um okay I’ll see you tomorrow at work with Maria.”
“Bye.”
Liz hung up the phone and fell asleep.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The morning had come rather quickly and Liz’s alarm starting going off right in Liz’s ear. She quickly reached out her hand and hit her clock. It wouldn’t go off so she extended her other and tried to hit the snooze button. When that didn’t work she picked up her clock and just threw it across the room. She really wasn’t in the mood to wake up. She opened her eyes anyway and looked at her watch on her night table. Seven o’ clock. She had thirty minutes to shower and get dressed before her shift started.
‘ I can already tell this is going to be a great day!’ she thought to herself as she got out of bed.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Liz headed down the stairs at seven-thirty on the dot. She had just made it in time. She saw Michael working the grill and she gave a knowing smile. He smiled back at her knowing what she meant. Maria came in and saw what was going on.
“Hey chica.” She said as she took Liz’s elbow and led her to the lockers.
“Maria, what is it?” Liz asked.
“What was that whole smiling thing that just went one between you and Michael?”
“What? I was just smiling.” Liz said innocently.
“Nuh uh, that was more than smiling. It was one of those smiles when someone knows something. What does he know Liz?”
“I called last night. You satisfied?”
“What did you talk about?” Maria asked expecting Liz to say it was she.
“Max.”
“Max?”
“Yeah, Max.”
“Why?”
“I really don’t want to talk right now, Maria. Customers are waiting.”
As Liz walked towards the door she heard gasps and screams come from the restaurant.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Michael saw Liz coming down the stairs and smile at him. He couldn’t hold back so he smiled back at her knowing what it was all about. Maria saw the whole exchange and she quickly pulled Liz into the break room.
‘ Man, Maria can get so jealous so easily.’
As Michael chuckled to himself he heard to the doors the Crashdown open. He saw Isabel and Max walk through. When he saw Max he had this feeling of anger filling up in the pit of his stomach.
Michael dropped his spatula as he watched Max walk toward the swinging door. He walked through them and stood in front of Max’s way.
“Michael, is Maria around?”
Michael stood there not saying anything.
“Okay.”
Max tried to walk past him, but Michael pushed him back.
“What the hell is the matter with you, Michael?”
“I heard all about what happened last night between you and Liz.”
“Yeah so.” Max said challenging Michael.
“Yeah so she called me and cried half the conversation.”
“Not my problem.”
“So why do you want Maria so bad?”
“I actually just wanted a waitress.”
Michael’s eyes were giving Max the evilest, scariest glare. He couldn’t hold back any longer and punched Max right in the face. Max fell on his back, but got right back up and went to punch Michael and socked him right in the stomach. As Michael doubled over he brought Max to the ground with him punching him in the face.
People in the restaurant were horrified by the events happening right in front of them. Isabel was surprised at first, but when she heard about it being about Liz she smiled.
‘ Serves you right you jackass.’ she thought to herself about Max.
Liz and Maria to see what the commotion was about, and saw Max and Michael fighting with each other on the floor. Maria and Liz went to pull Michael off Max and Isabel went over to pull Max away from Michael. Michael and Max both tried to get loose. Max looked at Liz and finally stopped trying to get loose. Isabel let him go and he shrugged it off.
“Come on, Isabel, lets go.”
Isabel stood there and looked at him in disbelief.
“Nuh uh. You’re on your own Max.”
Max laughed to himself.
“Thanks Iz.”
Max turned around and left the Crashdown.
Liz saw the way he was acting and still couldn’t believe that was Max. So she ran out after him.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Max!” Liz yelled out to him.
He turned around with an angry look on his face.
“What?”
Liz ran up to him.
“What is the matter with you?”
“You really want to know?”
“Well yeah, it’s kind of why I asked.” Liz said sarcastically.
“I got a call from Pam last night.”
“So, what trouble in paradise already?”
“No, she told me that she had to get a hair cut because of all the candy that was stuck in it from the Movie Theater.”
Liz held back the laughter that was about to erupt.
“So what does this have to do with having a rumble with Michael?”
“Well you told him what happened last night obviously and he was pissed at me. Actually I was pissed at me too, but when Pam called me I knew it was you, Maria, Isabel, Alex, and Kyle, that did it so I was glad I told what I said. And I still mean it.”
“So what? You’re gonna throw away a friendship of like ten years because your girlfriend had to get a hair cut?”
“It’s not just the hair cut.”
“What we’re not at popular status so you can't hang with us?”
Max looked at her.
“That’s exactly it.”
Max walked away from Liz. Even though he was a guy half way walking home he broke down and cried.

Chapter 10
Liz walked back into the Crashdown looking miserable. Isabel quickly went up to her.
“Want me to go kick Max’s ass?” She suggested.
Liz half smiled.
“No, I think Michael covered that.”
Liz walked up to him.
“Thank you, but that really wasn’t necessary.”
Michael looked down at his feet then looked back up at Liz.
“For the longest time I’ve known you, you were my friend. Then when you trusted enough to call me with your problem I started to look at you like a sister. I needed to protect you.”
Liz shook her head.
“But Max is your best friend.”
Michael scoffed.
“Yeah, if can still call him that, but even with that, it’s what brothers are for. You know, to kick their friends ass when they hurt their family.”
Liz smiled with little glimmers of tears forming in her eyes. She put her arms around Michael’s neck and hugged him. She breathed.
“Thank you Michael, or uhhh brother I should say.”
She let go and laughed as he did too.
Isabel sniffled and wiped a tear from her eye as she started to cry.
“That was the most * sniffle * beautiful * sniffle * thing I have ever * cry * heard. Excuse me.”
Isabel ran into the bathroom and shut the door. She blew her nose so loud Michael, Maria, and Liz heard it all the way from the bathroom and they started to laugh.
Maria went up to Michael and kissed him softly on the lips.
“That was very sweet what you did, and I forgive for anything asinine you will achieve today.”
Michael smiled.
‘Score!’ he though to himself.
Maria turned to Liz.
“Oh and I heard from this kid who knows this girl who’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother talked to and they found out from their friend’s cousin that there is going to be a party tonight. You interested?”
Liz thought about it for a minute.
“I don’t know.”
“Oh come on. Even if Lady and the Tramp are there Michael here will protect you,” Maria turned to Michael. “ Won’t you shnookums?”
“Yes, and don’t ever call me that ever again.”
Maria smiled and turned back to Liz.
“See! So will you come now?”
Liz thought an about it for a moment.
“Okay.”
Maria smiled with joy.
“Great, be ready at seven.”
Nine Hours Later…
Liz looked in her mirror at herself. Maria had picked out her outfit and Liz knew it wasn’t really her. It was a black leather jacket/shirt and a pair of red leather pants. Her hair was crimped and toppled over her head in a clip. Maria walked in wearing a short black dress.
“Liz, you look stunning!”
Liz smiled.
“Thanks, you too.”
Maria smiled and put her hand on her chest.
“I know.”
Liz laughed.
“We’ve got to get going.”
Maria pulled Liz down the stairs where Michael, Isabel, Alex, and surprisingly Kyle was waiting for her.
“Wow Liz, you look great.” Isabel said.
“Certainly different, but, I think it’s good.” Alex said after Isabel.
“I don’t like it.” Michael groaned looking at Liz.
“You look really pretty.” Kyle said smiling.
“Thank you, Thank you, Too bad, and Thank you.” Maria said for Liz, “ Now lets go!”
Maria dragged Liz to the Jetta along with Michael and Kyle. Michael got in the driver’s seat as Maria got in the passenger’s and Liz and Kyle sat in the backseats. Alex and Isabel got into Alex’s Golf and drove right behind them. Maria turned on the radio and started to sing the song playing.
“
There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're traveling with me
Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win”
“We’re here.” Michael said stopping the car abruptly.
“Geez.” Maria said under her breath as she exited the car.
Liz chuckled to herself.
Kyle opened the door and waited for Liz to get out.
“Thank you.” Liz said smiling.
“No problem.” Kyle said.
Liz walked around and saw all the people. She ran to catch up with Maria and Michael, but she had lost them and had suddenly lost Kyle as well.
“Great.” She said under her breath.
As Liz looked around more she caught a glimpse of Max. When she went to get a closer look she saw him dancing and getting close to Pam. He was laughing and smiling and that really pissed her off. She looked behind her and saw the snack table. There were chips, pretzels, soda, and the alcohol. Liz couldn’t resist at the moment and went for the alcohol. She picked up a beer and tasted it. It tasted bad, but she shook it off and drank more of it. She looked up and saw a girl in her science class and suddenly decided to talk to her.
“Hey Tess.”
Tess looked up.
“Oh hi Liz.”
Liz thought for a minute.
“Do you like Kyle Valenti?”
Tess eyes shined then went dull as she looked down at her feet and shook her head.
“No.”
Liz smiled knowing she did have a crush on him.
“Come with me.”
Liz pulled Tess with her and found Kyle leaning against a wall watching people dancing.
“Kyle, this is Tess.”
Kyle smiled.
“Hi Tess.”
“Hi.” She said shyly.
Liz rolled her eyes playfully at the way Tess was acting.
“Kyle, Tess here is going to be your date for the rest of the night.”
Tess looked up with her big blue eyes bulging out of her head and her face turning pale.
“Liz, no, Kyle’s here with you.”
Liz patted her on the shoulder.
“Don’t worry about it. Kyle, show Tess a good time. See ya kids later.”
Liz felt good. Beer was like a power drink. It was the new Gatorade. She felt she could do anything. She felt like she needed more. Liz went back over to the table and got another bottle of beer and chugged it down. Liz heard one of her favorite songs start to play over the speakers and got the urge to dance…with every guy in the room. Maybe that would show Max that him not being with her as a friend or more didn’t bother her now that she had her super drink! Liz moved out to the dance for and started to lip sync to the beginning.
[Redman:]
Ah, dirrty (dirrty)
Filthy (filthy)
Nasty (Christina), you nasty (yeah)
Too dirrty to clean my act up
If you ain't dirrty
You ain't here to party (woo!)
Ladies (move)
Gentlemen (move)
Somebody ring the alarm
A fire on the roof
Ring the alarm (and I'm throwin' elbows) [7x]
Liz started to move with different guys in the center of the floor. She liked the attention she was getting and couldn’t get enough of it. She felt like she needed to get her old image out of the way and have the new Liz Parker come out. She started to sing with the song.
[/I] “Oh, I'm overdue
Give me some room
I'm comin through
Paid my dues
In the mood
Me and the girls gonna shake the room
DJ's spinning (show your hands)
Let's get dirrty (that's my jam)
I need that, uh, to get me off
Sweat until my clothes come off” [/I]
Liz looked over and found Max staring at her in disbelief. She smiled and started grinding with a guy she thought was in her English class, but she really wasn’t sure but that didn’t really matter.
‘That’ll show him.’ She thought to her self.
“It's explosive, speakers are pumping (oh)
Still jumping, six in the morning
Table dancing, glasses are mashing (oh)
No question, time for some action
Temperature's up (can you feel it)
About to erupt
Gonna get my girls
Get your boys
Gonna make some noise
Wanna get rowdy
Gonna get a little unruly
Get it fired up in a hurry
Wanna get dirrty
It's about time that I came to start the party
Sweat dripping over my body
Dancing getting just a little naughty
Wanna get dirrty
It's about time for my arrival
Liz felt all the glares and stares on her. The glares coming from the girls whose boyfriends she was seductively dancing with and plus the jealousy they had over her and the stares coming from the people who knew her and couldn’t believe she was acting this way. Liz didn’t care though, she was having fun and she liked it.
“Ah, heat is up
So ladies, fellas
Drop your cups
Body's hot
Front to back
Now move your ass
I like that
Tight hip huggers (low for sure)
Shake a little somethin' (on the floor)
I need that, uh, to get me off
Sweat until my clothes come off”
Liz moved her hands up her body into her hair and combed her fingers right through it. She felt desirable and sexy at the same time. She’d never felt like that. She’d always been plain and predictable. She was a goody two shoes and everyone knew it. Well, not anymore. Liz was on a roll with this. And if Max could change and be a tight ass, well she could change and show off her sexy ass. * giggle *
“Let's get open, cause a commotion (ooh oh)
We're still going, eight in the morning
There's no stopping, we keep it popping (oh)
Hot rocking, everyone's talking
Give all you got (give it to me)
Just hit the spot
Gonna get my girls
Get your boys
Gonna make some noise
Rowdy
Gonna get a little unruly
Get it fired up in a hurry
Wanna get dirrty
It's about time that I came to start the party
Ooh sweat dripping over my body
Dancing getting just a little naughty
Wanna get dirrty (oh, oh)
It's about time for my arrival”
Michael, Alex, and Kyle started to come forward to get her off the floor, but Liz just ignored them and did her own thing. She turned to the closest guy and danced with him. She suddenly felt a pull at her arm and she was pulled from the dance floor and before she knew it she was outside.
”Hey, what the hell.” Liz staggered to see who pulled. It had to have either been Alex, Kyle, or Michael because they had a strong grip.
“What the hell do you think you were doing in there?”
Liz was surprised by the voice.
“What? I was having fun. Now, excuse while I go have more of it.” Liz pushed them away as she tried to get back inside.
“No way. You’re drunk I know it.” They said.
“What? Is there a law saying I can’t be.”
“Actually yeah there is. The Under Age Drinking Law to be exact.”
Liz was pissed now.
“Yeah well, I don’t care. This is the new me! I’m reckless and dangerous and a loner from now on. I drink, I curse, and I wear skimpy clothing. This is who I am now. It makes me feel good.”
“But, that isn’t you. That’s not the you I know. That’s not my best friend. You’re somebody else and don’t like who you’re trying to become. I want the old Liz back.”
“Well you made me this way. You made me dress like this!”
“How did I make you dress like this?”
“To get your attention. To make you see I’m a person out there. How come it’s okay for you to change, huh, Max? How come you can change and exclude the group so you can feel good, but when I do it it’s not acceptable to you so I have to go back to the plain
person I was. Boring, predictable, stupid, and unattractive.”
Max came closer to Liz and out her face in his hands and made her look at him.
“You’re not boring or predictable. And you are definitely not stupid or unattractive. Your smart and you’re smarter than this. You know better. And don’t go saying your ugly either. Cause your beautiful. And I’ve seen your face for the last 10 years so I know it for a fact.”
Max tucked a piece of hair that had fallen out of the clip behind Liz’s ear.
“I love you.” Liz said.
“Yeah I know.”
Liz shook her head.
“No, I mean it. I’m in love with you.” She urged.
“Liz, you’re drunk. You don’t mean what you’re saying.”
Liz stomped her feet on the ground.
“Don’t tell me what I mean and don’t mean! And right now I’m starting to really hate you!” Liz yelled.
Liz started to wobble in her platform shoes and fell into to Max’s arms.
“I don’t feel so well.” She mumbled into his shoulder.
Max scooped her up into his arms and brought her to the Jeep.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Max couldn’t believe the day that this had turned into. First, he went to Crashdown all pissed off. Then, Michael kicked his ass. After that, he fought with Liz and had a total meltdown walking home. He needed therapy. He knew something had to be major wrong with him. He forced Liz to be this way. When he had seen her on the dance floor practically looking at him and saying “Take this.” He messed up big time. And she was drunk because of it. She could have gotten in real trouble because of him. And plus the things she was saying to him were just drunken words. “I’m in love with you.” She probably would have said that to Kyle if he had been the one to rescue her. But none of this mattered now. What mattered was getting Liz home and he was just finally starting to understand that. He had to be the one to protect her. This was his job. It meant making sure she was safe and that’s all that mattered to him.
Max stopped the Jeep in the alley by Liz’s balcony. Liz was half-asleep, but she started to stir when the car stopped. Max went to her side of the Jeep and picked her up.
“Liz?” he whispered.
“Max?” She asked drowsily.
“You got to go up the ladder okay. I’ll be right behind you.”
Max took her over to the ladder and climbed up right behind her.
As she climbed onto the balcony Max was quickly right behind her so she wouldn’t pass out. He led her over to window where he climbed into her room. He gently pulled her in and walked her to the bed.
“Lie down.” He told her.
She obeyed and placed her head on the pillow. He pulled the covers out from under her and took her hair out of her clip and took her platform shoes off. He saw she had a tank top under her leather jacket/shirt thing and took that off of her as well. Liz snuggled into the bed and pulled the covers over her more. As Max began to move she grabbed his hand.
“Stay. Please.” She breathed in her little innocent voice.
“Are you sure?” He asked.
“Mmmhhhhmmmm.” She breathed still gripping his hand.
Max took off his shoes with his free hand and lied next to Liz in the bed. She turned toward him and snuggled close to his body. He kissed her head and watched her fall asleep.
“Night Max.” She breathed into his chest.
“Night Liz.”
Max watched her delicate form and waited for the perfect time to get out, but soon after he fell asleep next to his beautiful angel.
I could stay awake just to hear you breathing
Watch you smile while you are sleeping
While you're far away and dreaming
I could spend my life in this sweet surrender
I could stay lost in this moment forever
Well, every moment spent with you
Is a moment I treasure
I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
Lying close to you
Feeling your heart beating
And I'm wondering what you're dreaming
Wondering if it's me you're seeing
Then I kiss your eyes and thank God we're together
And I just wanna stay with you
In this moment forever, forever and ever
I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
I don't wanna miss one smile
I don't wanna miss one kiss
Well, I just wanna be with you
Right here with you, just like this
I just wanna hold you close
Feel your heart so close to mine
And just stay here in this moment
For all the rest of time
Don't wanna close my eyes
Don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
'Cause I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
I don't wanna close my eyes
I don't wanna fall asleep
'Cause I'd miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
'Cause even when I dream of you
The sweetest dream would never do
I'd still miss you, baby
And I don't wanna miss a thing
Don't wanna close my eyes
Don't wanna fall asleep, yeah
I don't wanna miss a thing
I don't wanna miss a thing

Chapter 11
Liz woke up as the sun was shining on the side her face through the window. She had an enormous headache and she couldn’t remember how she got it. Then it hit her. She had been drinking quite a bit of alcohol last night at the party. Though, after that was pretty much a blur. Liz started to turn in her bed when she felt as if someone was next to her. As she turned her face and saw theirs, she was in utter shock. Max was lying right next to her sound asleep. She quickly checked to make sure all her clothes were still on under the covers to make sure that they hadn’t done anything last night she had forgotten.
‘Whew. All there! Thank God!’ she thought to herself in relief.
She tried really hard to remember why he was here, but still her memory was a blur. She kind of remembered a confrontation between them in the parking lot of the party, but that still didn’t tell why he was here. As she stared at him a little more he began to stir. His eyes slowly opened up to see her.
“Hey.” He whispered.
Her eyes narrowed at him.
“What are you doing here?” She asked getting angry at him.
Max noticed the tone in her voice and couldn’t believe she was getting mad at him.
“Don’t you remember?” He asked starting to sit up.
“Do you think I’d be asking if I remembered?” Liz asked annoyed.
“It was just a question, quit being bitchy.”
Liz scoffed and rolled her eyes.
Max saw this and he started to get annoyed at her.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“What?” she asked innocently.
“You know damn right what I’m talking about.” Max demanded.
“Oh, the eye rolling and scoffing. Well you know since I’m being a bitch, I thought I’d give you a break from all the whining you must endure from your little girlfriend.”
Max got up out of the bed and stood up while retrieving his shoes.
“Running away as usual?” She asked also getting out the bed.
Max grunted in annoyance. She was really getting on his nerves. He didn’t know why she was even acting like this. He thought last night they had been working through their problems, but he must have been mistaken.
‘Thank god I didn’t take that ‘I love you’ she said seriously.’ Max thought himself.
“No, I’m not running away as usual. When have I run away?” He asked challenging her to tell him.
“Duh, I don’t know, maybe when Michael kicked the living shit out of you and I ran out to talk to you. You yelled at me then you walked away from me.” She said in a sarcastic then serious tone.
“Hah! I walked a way, I didn’t run away.” Max sarcastically as he took a step towards Liz.
“This isn’t funny, Max! Our friendship hangs in the balance while you crack jokes.” She yelled as she took a step closer to him.
Max walked and stood right in front of her.
“ Well maybe this friendship isn’t something we thought it was.”
“Yeah maybe it wasn’t.” Liz said agreeing.
They stood there glaring at each other. Tension was growing between them by the second. Finally, Max made his move. He quickly put his hand behind her head and pulled her face towards his. His lips touched hers. As they started putting all their frustration they felt for each other in it, they started kissing roughly. In the heat of the moment Max and Liz both pulled away from each other knowing what they were was because of their fighting. They both breathed hard and looked at each other. Max looked away and went over the window.
“I have to go now.”
Right after he said that he quickly left. Liz stared at window until she fully saw he was gone. She then touched her lips with her fingertips replaying the kiss in her mind. She didn’t know how she had let this happen. One minute they had been fighting the next they were kissing each other with raw emotion. Then right now he was gone, once again, and left her to think about what all this means. Liz quickly picked up her phone and called Maria, if she couldn’t figure this out, she knew Maria would have many rational explanations and, yet at the same time, have crazy ones also. Right now, she knew it was better than anything she had.
Max sneaked in to he kitchen trying not to disturb anyone. He failed to notice that Isabel was standing in the kitchen glaring at him.
“Where did you go last night?” She asked.
“Oh, suddenly you’re interested in my business?”
“No, it’s just ironic that you left right around the same time Liz disappeared. Then I had your poorly-cut-haired girlfriend asking ‘Where’s Maxie-poo, do you know where he went, Where’s my Maxikins?’ It made me sick.”
Max rolled his eyes and made his way past Isabel.
“I don’t have to take this from you.”
Isabel laughed.
“Course not. When it concerns you you want the whole group to come running and say ‘awwww poor Max’, but when it’s with one of us, because of you and your new way of perception, were insignificant little beings that aren’t on your cool radar!”
Max turned around.
“I do care about you. You wanna know something. Last night I was with Liz. She was drunk and a mess and I was there for her cause I care about her. Obviously she doesn’t care about me cause she practically yelled at me when she woke up.”
Isabel rolled her eyes in disbelief.
“You still don’t get it do you? You hurt her badly, Max. You hurt all of us badly. How can we forgive you by doing one little good deed? I know I can’t and we’re blood relatives. I suggest that you quit being so egotistical and start thinking about other peoples feeling instead of your own.” Isabel stomped past Max and out of the front door.
Max stared at the door.
“Jesus, what is this pick on Max day?” he said to himself.
As Max was about to go into his bedroom the phone started ringing. He picked up the receiver.
“Hello?”
“YOU SON OF A BITCH!” the person the other line yelled.
“God, I don’t need this from you too Maria.”
“Well you’re defiantly gonna get it from me!”
“What, you want to nag on me for making sure Liz got safely home?”
“ Yeah like you being ‘Designated Driver Max’ is gonna change what I think of you!”
Max groaned in frustration.
“You do know that is all your fault anyway. You’re the one who came up with brilliant idea of doing this!”
Maria scoffed.
“You’re gonna pin this on me? I didn’t tell you change your personality, I just merely said to go with Pam to make Liz jealous. Which they all know by the way and I have apologized time and time again for!”
“They all know? Even Liz?” Max asked in disbelief.
“Well she knows to a point. I didn’t want to shatter her heart into more pieces you can count. I know you did that job mighty fine!”
Maria hung up on him and he heard the click and then the dial tone. He had to make up a new plan now. And that included avoiding all his ex-friends and trying to concentrate on the new life he made for himself.

One Week Later
Liz sat at her desk and proceeded to write in her journal.
Dear Journal,
Have you ever wanted to go back in time at a certain moment and fix the thing that went most wrong in your life? I sure as hell do. It’s Monday morning and about a week and a couple of days after that party I went to. I woke up with a hangover and Max in my bed. And if that wasn’t surprisingly enough he thinks that just because he had the decency of driving home in my worst state (which has been all over school) that I can just forgive him. And to make matters twice as worse, we kissed. I mean really kissed. It was the heat of the moment thing while we were arguing. He left, as usual, and I called Maria, who called Isabel, who then called back to talk to Max. It was this big huge thing and they came over and told me what a jerk he was (like I needed them to figure that out). I just wish there was some easy way to resolve this. But I’m pretty sure Max doesn’t want to reconcile with any of us on the account of him purposely avoiding us anyway he can and staying very clingy to Pam (insert gag), though I have seen some trouble in paradise for them (insert smile). It’s just not the same anymore. Isabel is distraught over Max being such an ass (yes I’m saying this and I mean it), Alex is distraught over losing his best friend and that Isabel is sad, Maria keeps saying that this is her fault, and Michael’s pissed because he heard what happened. (Alex had to hold him back last Monday cause we thought he was gonna have some kind of power surge and fling Max across the school. What? It’s Roswell, anything is possible) And me? Well I’m just going over things in my head. The last time Max and I had a real conversation, and were still friends, was the last time I had him over and watched that scary movie. Maybe he changed because he felt threatened by Kyle, but that’s not even an issue anymore. I must have hooked him up with Tess Harding at the party cause they’re an item. I like Tess, she’s nice and it’ll be nice to have another girl friend to talk to cause Kyle still wants to hang with us. I’ve adjusted to him and realized he’s great to talk to. I just wish that I could talk to Max. It kills me inside that he doesn’t even consider us anything but people he goes to school with and I guess I’ll have to look at him that way from now on too. It’ll be hard, but I think I can do it.
~Liz
Liz put her journal away in her special place and grabbed her books. It was another week of school and she knew it wasn’t going to be pretty.

School, Week 1
Liz walked down the hall still faintly hearing about what had happened with her a week ago.
‘ Do these people have no lives or something?’ She wondered to herself.
She walked to her locker to retrieve her books for her morning classes. As she put in her combination and opened the door up someone abruptly shut it in front of her. When Liz looked up to see who it was she felt a sudden sickness in her stomach.
“What do you want, Pam?” She asked redoing her combination.
“Well, I want to know what you did to my Maxie-bear!” She said in her Mickey Mouse on helium voice.
Liz’s eyebrows narrowed in confusion.
“What are you talking about? I haven’t talked to Max in the longest time.”
“Well he seems to be thinking and looking in you and your stupid friends direction very a lot!”
‘Very a lot? Someone has to teach this girl how speak right!’
“What are you talking about?” Liz asked still confused on the issue.
Pam put her hands on her hips and stomped her foot down.
“Well, if this some way for you to try and win Max from me it’s not going to happen. I’m no stupid. And just so you know, since Junior Prom is coming up you’re not going to ruin this for me! I’m going to win.”
Liz rolled her eyes.
“I hope you do, cause I would never dream of ruining that for you.”
Liz closed her locker and started to walk away.
“Don’t walk away. I’m not gonna make it that easy for you!”
Liz turned around. She saw Maria, Isabel, and Tess coming her way as Pam’s friends Stacy, Courtney, and Vicky came to back her up.
“What’s going on here?” Maria asked glaring at Pam.
Everybody in the hall centered their attention on what was going on between the two girls now that their friends had come to their sides.
“I’m here to make sure Liz isn’t thinking of running for Queen just so she can dance with Max at the dance when they call King and Queen in three weeks. I know she has something up her sleeve cause Maxie-waxie seems to be paying more attention to Liz and you losers than me.”
“Umm just to clarify you mall whore, his name is MAX. M-A-X, not Maxiekins or Max-poo, Max! Get that?” Isabel started in.
“Whatever!” Pam replied in a valley girl voice.
Tess rolled her eyes.
“And just so you know, Liz is going to run for Queen!”
Liz shook her head in protest.
“I don’t think so!” Stacy replied.
“Well, I do.” Maria said sternly scaring Stacy a bit.
“Yeah, and she’s going to win, and we’ll make sure of it!” Isabel stated looking at Pam right in the eyes.
Liz slightly started to walk backwards out of the circle of girls, but Maria quickly brought her in the middle right in front of Pam.
“Fine Liz, we’ll see who wins, just don’t cry when they call my name instead of yours!” Pam smiled and left with her posse.
‘ No, I’ll just be in the bathroom hiding from the minute I walk in to the minute the dance is over.’ Liz thought starting to get scared.
Liz saw them leave and started to slightly hyperventilate. She quickly ran to the bathroom with Maria, Isabel, and Tess behind chasing her down the hall. Liz opened the door and placed her books on the counter and looked into the mirror. She felt she was going to be sick. The rest of the girls came in.
“We’re gonna win Liz, don’t worry about it.” Maria said trying to make Liz feel better.
Liz breathed.
“How could you do this? I can’t win, and then when I don’t I’m going to be more humiliated than I was I was last week!”
Liz put her elbows on the counter and put her head in her hands.
“Liz,” Tess said rubbing Liz’s back, “we’re gonna beat Pam at her own stupid little game. Maria, Isabel, and me are all here to help. We all know a lot of people so we can get a lot of votes for you. This is going to be okay.”
Liz looked up at all of them.
“I didn’t want to do this. I’m going to lose, I know that, but that’s not what I’m worried about really. It’s Pam. She said that Max was changing, and what if that meant he was converting back to our side cause he thought we didn’t need him anymore and that made him think. Now that I’m ‘supposedly’ in the running for this, he’s gonna think I’m doing it for revenge against her and then get mad at me. But you guys this isn’t my revenge,..... it’s yours.”
Tess, Isabel, and Maria all looked down knowing she was right to a point.
“I just don’t want it to be like this. Having it go back and forth. I’m sick of it! If Max wants to be with us, then he will, if he wants Pam then we can’t change that!” Liz added.
“We know, Liz, but you know how it is with Pam. It’s just that once you get into a fight with her you want to win.” Isabel said trying to defend herself.
“I realize that, but how are we gonna win this? I mean look at me, this isn’t ‘She’s All That’, Isabel. And even in that movie the girl didn’t win.”
“ You're beautiful Liz, don't say that. And we’ll think of something. We have three weeks to campaign.” Tess said happily.
“And that’s enough time to get votes. I know I can threaten some girls, and Michael can threaten some guys!” Maria exclaimed.
Liz laughed.
“I know I can persuade guys with my looks and get the girls who want to be me to vote for you. And Alex, he can get a computer database thing going, you know to see the polls of how we’re doing.” Isabel said with determination.
“And I know I can get a lot of people I know to vote for you, and Kyle can get a lot of the jocks who haven’t succumbed to Pam’s slut call.” Tess said smiling.
“You guys are great friends!” Liz said can’t believing her friends would do all this to make sure she’d win.
“Awwww!” The three girls cried out.
They brought Liz in to big hug. Maria pulled out first and smiled.
“ Well girls, it’s time to let the games begin!”

I'm Back!!!!! here is a new part. It's not gigantic, but it's what I would call enough!
Chapter 12
All four girls exited the bathroom. It was obvious how the whole school already knew about the contest between Liz and Pam by the way they were looking at her. She was supposed to be walking out in the hallway all filled with confidence like her best friends, but she was still scared of what this might do to her relationship with Max.
Either:
1.) Make it worse
2.) Create Armageddon
3.) Make Max realize he's being an ass and be with her again, not that she was ever with him, but she knew what she meant.
Liz ducked head down to exert herself from all the attention she was getting. All those eyes watching her every move and emotion. She already felt this was going to be a bad idea, be she wasn't sure how bad yet. The bell rang signaling everyone to get to class.
'Great, now I get to endure the pleasure of being stared and talked about behind my back, literally! Oh goody, goody, goody...'
Liz walked into her class and wasn't surprised by the quiet whispers she heard. Her eyes wandered the classroom as she found her seat and landed on Max. He was laughing at something one of his "new best buddies" had said to him. He wasn't even fazed by the current gossip in school. Liz just rolled her eyes.
'Figures he wouldn't care, he probably doesn't even think I'm competition.'
Liz turned to the attention of her English teacher.
'English. Words. Ass. Asshole. Max. Max is an asshole. AHHHHHHH!!!!!!'
Liz raised her hand.
"Yes Liz?" The teacher asked.
"May I have a bathroom pass?"
"Sure."
Liz got up from her seat and took her bathroom pass, while sneaking her backpack with her. She needed to get air, space, get to some place where she could breathe and not be smothered by the childishness masquerade of her life in this moment in time.
She walked down the hallway and was tempted to just cut school and not care. But that was her problem these days. Caring. All she did in her life was care about others, care about her schoolwork, and care about what she'd being doing for the rest of her life. She didn't want to care anymore. She wanted to be like the slackers in class and do nothing and care about nothing, but that wasn't her. She can't change herself, so now she came to conclude that she couldn't change Max.
'I guess it was good while it lasted.'
Liz walked farther down the hall and secluded herself in the stairwell until the bell to her lunch period rang.
Maria looked around her table and slouched down farther in her chair and continued to play with her lunch. She knew now, with what had happen that morning with Pam, it was just more stress to worry about. But, she had a feeling that they could do this. Alex had already started the polls and Tess had already persuaded the cheering squad to vote for Liz. Isabel was helping Alex and almost tempted him to consolidate an Anti Max and Pam page, but he thought that would a little over board even though Isabel knew she could get solid members. Michael was watching Max's every move and Maria, like Liz, was just in solitude.
"So how about those 9ers?"
Everyone looked up at Maria and started to laugh.
"Ahh, the melting of the ice, finally!"
Liz smiled.
"Yeah well, it's been a hard morning." she replied.
Everyone nodded their heads.
"How's the campaign going?" Michael asked.
"Pretty good, the cheering squad is on my side." Tess said.
"And the database is up and running. Plus, with what Tess said and with Isabel's inquiry on Pam's position in the poll I've have enough info to conduct whose leading who." Alex said.
"I want to drop out." Liz said.
"Liz, you can't. We can beat Pam. Trust me." Maria assured her best friend.
Liz looked over at Pam's table. She saw all these people stopping by and saying hello to her and how her "popular and prestigious" friends were laughing and talking. And also how Max seemed the click with it. It all made her mad. She got up from the table.
"Excuse me."
Liz picked up and escaped the smothering once again. She couldn't take this. How could she endure another two weeks? She quickly exited the lunchroom and headed for her spot. The stairwell. It was the only place she could get away to. As she was walking she opened up her backpack and took her Diet Coke out. As she walked she didn't notice someone walking out of the Girl's bathroom and bumped right into them.
"Ex-cuuuuuse mha-eeee." A familiar Mickey Mouse on helium voice rang out.
Liz looked up to find she had just bumped into her rival. Liz's began to shake slightly.
"Ewwww, it's you. I guess for this little incident I'll just be taking this." Pam said ripping he Diet Coke from Liz's hand.
As Pam opened the can Liz tried to protest, but it was too late. The liquid shot out of the can and drenched Pam completely. Liz was horrified. She couldn't believe what had just happened.
"You bitch!" Pam called out.
Liz looked at her in the eye.
"Takes one to know one."
Liz brushed past Pam and headed toward her stairwell. She heard footsteps behind her and then felt as if she should turn around. She saw Max trying to comfort Pam and staring at herself.
Now, don’t just walk away
Pretending everything’s ok
And you don’t care about me
And I know there’s just no use
When all your lies become your truths and I don’t care... yeah, yeah, yeah
Could you look me in the eye
And tell me that you’re happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased,
Are you happy now?
Are you happy now?
She then saw Maria and Isabel emerge to see what was going on, along with the rest of the student body. Maria went up to a girl in the hall who witnessed the whole thing and told Maria what had happened. Maria quickly told Isabel and they ran to Liz.
You took all there was to take,
And left me with an empty plate
And you don’t care about it, yeah.
And I, I’ve given up this game
I’m leaving you with all the blame cause I don’t care, yeah, yeah yeah,
Could you look me in the eye?
And tell me that you’re happy now, oohh oohhh
Would you tell it to my face or have I been erased,
Are you happy now? Ohhh, ohhhh
Are you happy now?
Maria and Isabel smiled and looked at Liz.
"She called you a bitch and replied with 'Takes one to know one'? You go girl!" Maria said.
Liz didn't look at Maria and Isabel. She stared at Pam and Max for a few moments longer wondering if she could do what she was thinking of. Max stared at her once more then turned away.
Do you have everything you want?
You can get up and give everything you`ve got
You can’t run away from yourself
Could you look me in the eye?
and tell me that you`re happy now, oohh oohhh
come on tell it to my face or have I been erased,
are you happy now? Ohhh, ohhhh
are you happy now?
Would you look me in the eye?
Could you look me in the eye?
I’ve had that all I can take
And I’m about to break
Cause I’m happy now, ohhh, ohhh
Are you happy now?
" Liz, honey are you okay?" Isabel asked.
"Look Liz, if this what I said before about 'letting the games begin' was wrong." Maria said.
Liz looked up at her best friends.
"You're right, you were wrong. Cause now, it's war." Liz said looking past her friends and at the door Pam and Max exited the hallway through.

Chapter 13
Maria smiled.
"Who are you and what have you done with my best friend?"
Liz smiled at Maria.
"What? I suddenly found a new perspective on this. I want to beat Pam, and I want to beat her badly."
"So you're in this contest now? As in, you want to be Prom Queen in two weeks?" Isabel asked.
Liz nodded.
"And if I want to beat Pam I'm going to have to find out her stratagy."
"Well, how about instead of finding her stratagy you, well, go after something she desires and doesn't want you to have." Maria suggested with an evil smile.
"But I'm running for Queen , she doesn't want me to have that." Liz said in confusion.
Isabel knew what Maria was talking about and decided to give Liz a clue on what they were thinking.
"That's not exactly what Maria meant, Liz." she said.
Liz thought for a minute.
"Well, then what does Pam desire and not want me to have more than being named Prom Queen?"
Isabel and Maria looked at each other.
"Max." They said in unison.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
During Math class, Liz thought about the suggestion Maria and Isabel had made. She wasn't really sure if she could pull it off. It was a risky thing to do, but she did want to win.
'But do I want to win that badly at the cost of any potential make up with Max?' she thought.
The bell suddenly rang and she got up to leave. She saw Max in the hallway with his new 'buddies' and suddenly got the urge to go forth with the plan. She walked up to him and tugged him on the arm.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
As Max talked with his friends he felt someone pull on his arm. As he turned around he saw Liz.
"I need to talk to you." she said.
Max looked at her suspiciously.
"Really? About what? About Pam? About how you're sorry about what happened? Don't hold your breath."
Max felt bad after he said that and looked at Liz. She looked hurt and he wanted to kick himself in the ass for that. Max took her arm and pulled her into the janitor's closet, leaving the door open.
"I'm sorry, what did you want to talk about."
Max saw Liz looking at the ground probably thinking about what to say. She looked up at him.
"I really am sorry about what happened. And I just wanted to say I never wanted it to be like this. This whole big mess."
"Well, I'm dealing just fine, you don't have to worry about me."
Liz scoffed.
"Well, goody for you then."
Max looked at Liz.
"You know what. I'm sick of this. Whenever I think we might be able to do something about this 'mess', as you call it, we always seemed to fight and I'm tired of fighting with you. Goodbye, Liz."
As Max was about to leave the door slammed shut in his face.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Liz jumped back a bit at the slamming of the door. She thought she could hear Isabel and Maria.
'This isn't part of the plan!' she thought.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
45 Minutes Ago
Liz stood by the lockers waiting for Isabel and Maria to tell her what she had to do.
"Okay, this is what's going to happen. You'll go up to Max and talk to him. Tell him how you're sorry about everything and how you wish you could clean up this mess. Then just try to convince him to be on our side for the Prom and try and make him think that it was all our fault." Maria said thinking on the spot.
Liz looked at Maria funny.
"What's this going to accomplish?" she asked.
Isabel jumped in the conversation.
"You'll be taking away Pam's man of the hour."
"But then won't she get pissed and want to win more?" Liz asked.
Isabel and Maria thought for a minute.
"Well, we'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it. Now you go to class."
Liz nodded and walked away to her Math class, contemplating whether to go through with the plan or not.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
20 Minutes Later
Liz ran up to the door and tried to open, but it wouldn't budge.
"Don't bother, Liz. I already tried." Max said in a huff.
Liz looked at him.
"I can't believe for the last twenty minutes I've been stuck in here with you!"
"Ditto!"
Liz sat down a tower of boxes. She couldn't believe how Maria and Isabel could put her in here with Max. What did they think she'd accomplishing being stuck here with him? They both hated each other at the moment. Just then a single tear slipped down her face and didn't go unnoticed by Max.
"Are you crying?"
"What's it to you? Actually starting to care about someone other than yourself or in your new group of friends?"
"Just because I hang out with another group doesn't mean I don't still care about all you guys."
Liz laughed.
Max grabbed Liz by the shoulders and stood her up to look at him.
All day staring at the ceiling
Making friends with shadows on my wall
All night hearing voices telling me
That I should get some sleep
Because tomorrow might be good for something
Hold on
Feeling like I'm headed for a breakdown
And I don't know why
"Look, I know we're going through something right now, but I never wanted to lose any of you."
"Well, you messed up big time. I could have dealt with you being with Pam and still hanging out with us, with me, but you didn't, and that's what hurt the most. Not you going out with Pam, or sitting at her lunch table, or god even talking to her friends. But Max, you just forgot about us, everything we have achieved together and been through was just all thrown away. How can you say you didn't want to lose any of us? You pushed us away Max, you did that by yourself."
But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Liz turned around and leaned against the wall beside the door.
"We miss you," she whispered and then looked at Max." I miss you."
I'm talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know they've all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong with me
Out of all the hours thinking
Somehow I've lost my mind
Max looked at Liz. He couldn't believe how stupid he had been. How now that he's locked in a room with Liz he saw all the things he did wrong. He saw how beautiful she was. As he had done before, he cupped her face and kissed her. Her body shifted from the wall and was pressed closely on the door. Theirs hands moved over each other. Max's hand was cupping the back of her neck and the other on her waist, pulling her closer to him. Liz's hands were wrapped around his neck. As they passionatly kissed, both din't want it to end.
But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be...me
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Maria, Isabel, Michael, Alex, Kyle, and Tess all sat on a bench outside the school.
"Do you think it's bad what we did?" Maria asked her friends.
They all nodded.
"But you have to understand the significance of it. I mean this is Max and Liz we're talking about! I mean come on, they're soulmates! I thought I'd just help the process!"
Michael looked at her.
"By locking them in a closet where they are probably fighting, screaming, and maybe even using violence against each other? I don't really think you're helping."
"I think Michael is right, they probably are fighting. Like Max could, what, be kissing her senseless against the door of the janitor's closet? That's like a one in fifty billion chance of happening this second." Kyle said entering the conversation.
Maria stood up.
"Then lets go and rescue Liz!"
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The six of them ran down the hallway to the janitor's closet. Maria quickly pulled the chair from the under the doorknob, since that's what she and Isabel had used to lock them in there. Maria listened and heard a banging on the door and thought the worst was coming true. She quickly opened the door and was completely surprised by the actions she was witnessing.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Max kissed Liz harder, which resulted with her beginning pressed closer against the door. Liz thought she had heard running coming down the hall, but she didn't really care. All of a sudden she felt the base of the door turn into air. Before she knew it her back was slammed onto the ground with Max on top of her.
I've been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they'll come to get me
Yeah, they're taking me away
"Did I say one in fifty billion chance of this happening?" Kyle said.
Liz looked up at the crowd of her friends.
"Hey guys."
Maria stepped up.
"I can't believe it worked."
Max got up off Liz and looked at Maria.
"What worked?"
"Uh..Uh...my plan. We wanted you to be our friend again."
Max looked down at Liz.
"So it was all an act? Some silly ploy on getting me on your side for Prom? Pam said you'd pull something like this, but I didn't think you'd stood that low."
Liz wanted to tell him he was wrong, but then she'd be wrong. She justed want to say something, but she was to stunned to. Only if Maria hadn't said anything. She looked at Maria, as everyone else did.
"Was it something I said?"
But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be
Yeah, how I used to be
How I used to be
Well, I'm just a little unwell
How I used to be
How I used to be
I'm just a little unwell
Liz rolled her eyes and looked to see how, yet again, everyone was there to see her fail and act retarded and not herself.
'Gee, I wonder how next week will turn out?' she said sarcastically to herself and while banging her the back of her head against the ground.

Chapter 14a
Week 2
Dear Journal
The first week of becoming Queen is finally over! There’s only one problem now… Spreading the word! As in this, I mean getting people to know I’m on the ballot and to vote for me. I cringe at the propaganda of this. This is the week all the rumors fly out and I know the one from the night at the party is going to show it’s ugly head. Then, there’s the janitor’s closet incident last week with Max, which, made me not closer to him. (insert sad face) I think I’m officially on his hate list. Okay, so what else is there? Well, I’m going shopping for a dress today with Tess, Maria and Isabel. That’ll be fun. (insert rolling eyes) I mean it’s not that I don’t want to go dress shopping with them, it’s well…. Okay, maybe it is that. I mean this is Junior Prom, not the actual thing. I also think they’ll try to get me into a dress that tries to reveal several of my body parts, but that’s not me. They have bodies for that and can get a away with it, but NOT ME! Plus, there’s this last little problem… A DATE! I would have loved it if Max and came to my window and in the sweetest way asked me to go with him. I would smile and try to divert my eyes as if I was really thinking about it, but actually just stalling to make him more nervous. He would ask my name in a question and I would turn around happily and smiling and say, “I would love to be your date, Max!” And then, he would smile and lock me into a passionate kiss and we would go and have a great time at the dance and live happily ever after. (Roll eyes) Remind me to somehow go back in time and shoot the man who said the words, “Happily Ever After.”
-Liz
Liz closed her journal and hid it under her bed thinking she was alone, but what she didn’t know was someone was outside waiting for the perfect chance to steel it. After seeing Liz left, they swiftly maneuvered in, got the journal, and got out without signaling anyone they were in the room.

p.s Added a lilttle something to Chapter 13
Last edited by mg_ros on Tue Dec 02, 2003 7:20 pm, edited 2 times in total.
Liz walked down West Roswell High feeling a bit self-conscious. Everyone was staring at her and she knew they were talking about her behind her back, literally. She was expecting this, but she didn’t expect it to feel this bad. Her stomach ached each time she walked by someone. She felt nauseated. Liz looked for any sign of escape she could. She looked at classroom doors and looked for her friends. She saw Tess down the hall and started to speed walk down the hallway. When she got to Tess, she pulled her aside from her locker.
“Tess, do you know what’s going on?”
As Tess turned around Liz could see something was very wrong.
“Tess?”
Tess took a deep breath, but before she could say anything a familiar voice came across the loudspeaker in the hallway.
And check this people of West Roswell High. This was dated two months ago.
Dear Journal,
You’ll never guess what! There’s this new guy at our school and he is might fine!!! (insert laugh) I mean it! I mean he’s really ~really~ cute! He’s built, tall, dark brown hair, and beautiful eyes! And he’s funny too! Well I don’t really know that on the account that I’ve never even talked to guy! (insert sigh and slap on the head) I’m so damn shy I can’t even talk to him!!!!! (insert another sigh) Anyways….Okay journal where was I? Oh yeah….. I can’t even talk to him and I know he probably doesn’t even notice, but all that is gonna change today! (I hope) Well I can always dream that one day Kyle Valenti will ask me out.
Awwww, now doesn’t that just give you a cavity cause it’s soo sweet. Hmmm, let’s see what else little Lizzie Parker wrote in her journal.
Liz was stunned. She couldn’t believe her privacy was being exploited like this. She turned to look at Tess who was saddened by the words she heard.
“Tess, that was two months ago. I don’t want Kyle. He’s not my type. You guys are so happy together, I would never want to do anything to jeopardize that.” Liz said trying to convince Tess she didn’t want Kyle.
“I know that. I just can’t believe Pam’s stupid friend Vicky is doing this! I can’t even believe that airhead even knows how to read.”
“Someone probably put it on ‘Books On Tape’ for her.”
Tess started to laugh, but it was only short lived when Vicky came back on the loudspeaker.
Now listen to this you guys.
~Liz
Awwwww, poor wittle Lizzie is sad cause Max found someone better. Let’s all find Liz and give her sympathetic looks. And everybody hang onto their cabooses cause the last entry is just as juicy as the ones before.
Liz was embarrassed as ever. Maria and Isabel had found her, but it was too late. The damage would be done soon enough. Liz walked into the bathroom and waited for the last entry to be spoken. She could only imagine what everyone must be thinking about her. How her lovesick entries would make her look. She couldn’t believe that now, while she was almost down and out, Max would finally know how she felt. Liz looked in the mirror and wanted to throw something at her reflection. She turned away, sickened, and quickly headed into the stall in front of her. She sat on the toilet seat with her knees up to her chest just waiting for the fateful moment to come.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Max had been sitting in his English classroom waiting for his teacher to give him extra help when he heard Vicky over the loudspeaker for ‘Pre-Morning Announcements’ and what announcements they were. He couldn’t believe Pam’s friends would stoop that low to try and win a stupid contest. It only proved to him, in his eyes, that they felt threatened by Liz’s presence in the race. He left the classroom in search of the quickest route to get to the principal’s office. He needed to stop this right now before someone got hurt, but, he had to admit, after hearing the things out of Liz’s journal he finally saw the way she saw him. And that could end up a good thing or a bad thing considering what the next ‘juicy’ entry was about. Before he could get to the office it was too late, Vicky had already started reading and all he could do was stand and listen.
Okay West Roswell Students. This entry is the last one, but if you came in late I made sure photocopies were made and a very special website was put up. http://www.geocities.com/roswell7128/LizzieJournal.html Go there and check it out! Anyway, the moment you’ve all been waiting for!
(insert rolling eyes) I mean it’s not that I don’t want to go dress shopping with them its well…. I would have loved it if Max came to my window and in the sweetest way asked me to go with him.
-Liz
Oh man, does your imagination run wild. Liz if you’re listening, you should try being a psychic as a future profession. Well, that’s all for now. Remember to vote Pam Troy for Queen. Cause she can actually make her dreams come true unlike her opponent who writes them down on paper. Ta-ta!
And with that over, Max stood there stunned. He knew it wasn’t a lie. Vicky and Pam together wouldn’t have been able to pull that off so Liz-like. He couldn’t believe it. All this wasted time between them and they could have been together. But this wasn’t enough for him. He wanted to hear the words come from Liz, not a piece of paper someone was reading to the whole school. Max looked around him and saw Maria and Isabel nearly in tears. He ran up to them.
’Hopefully they’ll know where Liz is.
“Maria, Isabel, do you know where Liz is?”
They both turned to Max. Their faces were red with anger, but not with Liz, with him.
“Why, Max? So you can go and taunt yourself in front of her. She’s been through enough this morning don’t you think?” Maria said getting angrier.
Max shook his head.
“I know that I’ve been a total asshole and I could kill myself now for it, but I want Liz to know how I feel about her now. All this wasted time that we have shared was just wasted time. I want to be with her and in order for that to happen I need to find her and if you two won’t help me I’ll find someone who will, so, excuse me.”
“Wait!” Isabel shouted.
Max turned around eager to hear what she had to say.
“Last time I saw her she was in the bathroom.”
“Thanks Iz.” Max said smiling at her.
Max noticed that it was his first real smile since this whole thing started and he knew he could get used to it again. He waved thanks to his two friends and dashed off in search of Liz.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Liz heard the announcement end and was relieved.
“So now everyone knows Liz Parker.” She whispered to herself.
Liz let the tears she was holding fall down her face. They stung her eyes and blurred her vision, but she didn’t care.
“Why should I care? No one cares about me, why should I care about me?”
Liz stood up and opened the door of the stall. She went up to the mirror and looked at her reflection.
“I should care because I’m all I have left.”
Can't keep me down
Can't keep me down, down
Can't keep me down
I said you can't keep me down
You know you can't keep me down
I said you can't keep me down
Liz wiped her eyes, turned the sink faucet on, and splashed her face with water. She pulled down some paper towels and dried her face. No make-up was left and Liz stared at her plain face.
“I’ll go out there, pretend it doesn’t faze me, go to my car, drive home, and then fill the rest of the day with moping.”
Hey, hey, man! What's your problem?
I see you tryin' to hurt me bad
Don't know what you're up against
Maybe you should reconsider
Come up with another plan
Cuz you know I'm not that kinda girl
That'll lay there and let you come first
Liz smiled in the mirror and took a deep breath.
“I’m not going to succumb to this. I’m stronger than that. Now, go out there and persuade people like you just persuaded yourself.” She told herself.
You can push me out the window
I'll just get back up
You can run over me with your 18 wheeler truck
And I won't give a up
You can hang me like a slave
I'll go underground
You can run over me with your 18 wheeler but
You can't keep me down, down, down, down
Liz walked out of the bathroom and into the hallway with all eyes on her. She was suddenly filled with all this strength at the moment and couldn’t help but say a few words.
Can't keep me down, down
Can't keep me down, down, down
Can't keep me down, down
Hey, hey, girl! Are you ready for today?
You got your shield and sword?
Cuz its time to play the games
You are beautiful
Even though your not for sure
Don't let him pull you by the skirt
You're gonna get your feelings hurt
“I’m guessing you all heard.” Liz said motioning to the loudspeaker.
The kids in the hallway laughed a bit, but listened carefully.
“I don’t know what you must think of me. And if you think I’m some brave, strong person for coming out and talking your dead wrong. I’m terrified, scared, even horrified and for some unknown reason I’m here talking. I’m not going to deny what that journal says because I would be lying. That was me and that’s my writing. And now you know me. You know my feelings and I’m hoping it doesn’t cloud yours because I’m still me. I don’t want your vote for Queen, I really could care less, but I don’t want to lose friendships. And I’m not going to retaliate and stoop down to their level because I know I’m better than that and I’m better than them. What they did was wrong, but I’m gonna look the other way as I hope you do too. Now, I’m just take today and move on and I’ll see you all tomorrow.”
You can push me out the window
I'll just get back up
You can run over me with your 18 wheeler truck
And I won't give up
You can hang me like a slave
I'll go underground
You can run over me with your 18 wheeler but
You can't keep me down, down, down, down
Liz walked down the hall towards the exit. The small group of students she had started talking to had expanded into a very large group. They started to clap for her. They all couldn’t have imagined what that must have taken. The talk about her not being brave or strong was wrong in their eyes and they respected her for it. Liz knew it too and it was all she wanted. She left the school and went straight to her car and drove to her house. Once she parked her car in the alleyway beside her fire escape she maneuvered herself up and hopped into her room. She landed on her bed and cried like she never had before.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Max ran and peeked into every girl’s bathroom he knew of. He finally got to the last one and peeked in.
“I’m a guy so don’t be alarmed. I’m just looking for someone. Hello?”
Max peeked in farther and didn’t see anyone.
“Liz? Are you in here?”
Max walked in farther towards the stalls and started to slightly tap them open. When he got to the last one he knew she wasn’t in her. As walked out he saw at the other end of the hall was a large group of people.
“And another girl’s bathroom.” Max whispered.
As he neared the scene he was too late. Liz had already left. As he tried to move around the crowd someone stopped him.
“Maxie-poo, don’t tell me you are going after her.”
“You know what Pam, I am. This whole thing with you was a ploy to get Liz. I love her and I used you.”
Pam stood there stunned.
“You’ll be back. I’ll make sure of it.” Pam whispered to herself.
Max heard what she said and brushed it off. Liz was his number one priority and he needed to get to her. He exited the school as fast as he could. He couldn’t believe what had happened only in a matter of twenty minutes. School hadn’t even begun yet and already there was a melodrama in the works.
“Next thing I know we’ll be known as Roswell: 88201.” Max said to himself as he jumped into the Jeep. He fumbled into his jean pocket to get his keys and finally retrieved them. He placed the car key into the ignition and started the Jeep. Before he knew it he was already at the Crashdown.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Liz lied in her bed crying. She had quickly told her parents, holding her tears, that she had thrown up at school and had come back. She really hadn’t been lying because she felt that at any given moment she would, but her parents bought the story anyway and called in her absence. Liz continued to look at the ceiling and cry like she had been for the last five minutes. Suddenly she was pulled out of her trance when a knock startled her at her window.
“Go away Maria, Tess, Kyle, Isabel, Alex, or Michael.”
The knocking continued and Liz looked up to see who it was. It was the last person she thought she would have seen today. Liz walked over and opened her window.
“What do you want, Max?” She whispered, hardly even being able to hear herself.
“I think you know why.”
A tear escaped her eye as she found herself looking at Max.
“So now you know.”
Max nodded.
“ And I hope you know it’s true about me too.”
Liz looked at Max confused.
“What’s true about you?”
“Well, I guess you haven’t heard the story. You see I broke up with Pam today because of a girl I’ve been in love with for the longest time.”
Liz looked down feeling even worse then before.
“Oh.” Was all she could get out.
Max smiled and brought his hand to her chin making Liz look at him.
“That girl is you, Liz. I’m in love with you.”
Liz shook Max hand away from her. Max was hurt by her reaction.
“No. No. This is some cheep trick to keep kicking me when I’m down and I’m not going to fall for it.”
Liz was about to shut her window, but Max stopped her.
“Liz, I’m not lying. God, ask Isabel or Maria. God, even ask Pam. They all know it. And it was probably the same for you. The only problem was, we didn’t know it. All the signs were there, but we still didn’t see them. We felt too bad about ourselves not to see them.”
Liz stood there staring at him. She was trying to see if he was lying or not and she knew he wasn’t.
“Liz,” Max said taking Liz’s hand through the window. “I would be the happiest guy in the universe if you would believe me when I ask you this, will you be my date to the Prom?”
Liz stood stunned. She smiled and bit her lip. This was what she wanted right? But she still wasn’t sure. Her smile fell and she looked away from Max trying to come to a conclusive answer. She wanted to trust Max, but after everything she wasn’t sure she could. She diverted her eyes and thought for one more second, a tiny frown coming upon her face.
“Liz?” Max asked a little nervous.
She looked at him and a big smile broke out across her face.
“I would love to be your date, Max!”
Max smiled and pulled Liz onto the rooftop. He put his right hand on the side of her face and used his thumb to wipe away a tear slightly falling. He then moved his face closer and locked themselves into a passionate kiss.
‘What a dream come true…. Wait… dream?’ Liz thought.
Liz pulled away for a second. She took Max’s left hand and pinched him.
“Ow.” He said.
Liz then took her own hand and pinched herself. When she looked back up everything was the same.
“Okay.”
“What was that all about?” Max asked a little intrigued by her behavior.
Liz smiled.
“Just making sure this isn’t one my dream/fantasy things.”
Max cocked his eyebrows up in amusement.
“Really…”
“Shut up and kiss me.” Liz said giggling.
Max pinched himself this time. He looked up at Liz and smiled.
“Just double checking.”
Liz continued to giggle as Max brought her back into their kiss. Her arms folded around his neck as his hands settled on her hip and back.
“Don’t you have to go back to school?” Liz asked between kisses.
“They won’t miss me.” Max answered.
Liz pulled back slightly as she leaned her forehead against Max’s. She pulled away further and walked over to her lawn chair. Max lied down on it and Liz lied next to him. She moved her arm over his and folded her hand into Max’s.
“ A perfect fit,” he said. “I knew we were meant to be. Our destiny…”
Liz chuckled.
“Okay Max,” Liz said turning to look at him. “If your so smart then what’s our destiny?”
Max smiled.
“I only know the part I’m hoping for.”
“Me too.”
Liz smiled and rested her head on Max’s chest. His breathing pattern, and the hot New Mexican sun beating down, soothed her after the horrific events that morning and soon Liz fell asleep, as did Max.

Chapter 15a
Maria sat through her English class doodling and thinking about Liz, Max, herself, and the events that have transpired through the last two months.
‘How am I going to be able to tell my best friend this is really all my fault?’
“I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it, I just hope it’s not soon.” Maria whispered, putting her head down on her arm still doodling in her notebook.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
~ FOUR DAYS LATER~
Liz awoke hearing a high-pitched scream. She opened her eyes to find out it was only the T.V. She lifted her head up to look at the human she was using as a cushion.
“Max,” She said, poking him. “Max.”
Liz groaned and looked at the floor. Passed out along the couch’s sides were all her friends coupled up. There laid Isabel lying on Alex, Tess on Kyle, and Maria, with a pillow between her face and Michael’s chest, on Michael. Liz started to shift up and moved quietly off Max. As she was almost away from the couch, Max grabbed her arm.
“And where do you think you’re going?” He asked smiling.
“Well, everyone was asleep so I was going to turn the T.V. off.” She said turning around, trying not to step on Alex.
“Well, since you’re up the least you can do is trip and fall on me.”
Liz laughed, know what he was implying.
“Fat chance.”
As she was about to walk to the television, she failed to notice that her foot was wrapped around Alex’s jacket. When she moved her right foot she fell backwards right onto Max, who had just sat up.
“Now, was that so hard?” Max asked.
Liz chuckled.
“You jerk.” She said, playfully hitting him in his shoulder.
Max leaned in and kissed her. She smiled and kissed him back. This was nothing like the kisses they shared before they had confessed their feeling for each other. It wasn’t fast, hard, and passionate, but sweet, shy, and passionate. Liz shifted under Max and lied on her back on the couch. She put her hands around Max’s neck as he began to lie on top of her. They were in mid kiss when Maria began to shout.
“God! Even in my dreams I hear them kissing! Stop the madness!” Maria yelled, taking the pillow between her and Michael and putting it over her head.
Max and Liz looked at Maria then back at each other.
“I guess it’s been annoying for them to keep hearing and watching us do this. We have been doing it a lot lately.” Max said a bit breathless.
“Yeah, but I’m not complaining. I’ve waited for this for a long time.”
Max smiled.
“Me too. You’re like this drug. It’s like if I’m away from you it’s absolute hell!”
Liz blushed and bit her lip.
“Really?”
“You have no idea.”
Liz smiled and started to play with Max’s hair.
“We have to talk about what we are doing for Prom.”
Max groaned, “Now?”
Liz laughed.
“Oh, but you were ready for a make-out session….”
“Okay, okay, what about Prom?”
“Well, as we both know Pam has been watching us like a hawk and both of our names are on that ballot, I just want to make sure that you know that you and Pam are going to win and I want to know what happens to me.”
Liz didn’t look at Max, but rather at the floor. Max put his hand on her cheek and gently turned it towards his face.
“And what makes you so sure that you won’t win and what makes you so sure that I’ll win?”
“Because Max, whether you remember or choose to forget, for the last two months you were Mr. Popularity and me, well, I just did it to get your attention. I had a thought that maybe if I won we could dance and then we’d fall in love and kiss or something and I’d break the spell you were under,” Liz looked at the weird face Max was making. “Okay, so that was a little fairy talish, but you can’t blame me or the worn out tape of Sleeping Beauty I watched over and over. Do you understand anything I’m saying?”
Max leaned down and kissed Liz.
“Next Friday will be great and before I forget I have some things for you.”
Liz looked at Max confused. Max lifted his body off of her and went over to the backpack he had brought with him. Out of the bag, he retrieved two things wrapped up in a silver paper. One was small, while the other was a rather medium size. Max walked back over to Liz and sat beside her. He gave her the small one first. Liz took it in her hands and looked at it with curious eyes, almost like a child at Christmas trying to guess what they got.
“I was going to wait until after Prom to it give to you, but after carrying it around for four days I wanted to give it to you now.”
“What is it?”
“Open it and you’ll see.”
Liz smiled and looked back at the small package and opened it up carefully. Out of it emerged and black velvet box. Liz’s heart started to beat faster and faster as her left hand slowly opened up the lid. Liz gasped at what she saw.
“You like it?” Max asked.
Liz’s eyes started to tear up. Inside the black velvet box was a silver chain with a silver key hanging from it. As Liz inspected the key she saw that it had the letter “L” engraved on it.
“I love it, but what’s it to?”
Max smiled.
“My heart.”
Liz laughed and wiped hers eyes.
“Really?”
Max looked at her with his eyes so sincere.
“No. I just said that cause it was a corny line that every guy uses in his life.”
Liz’s jaw dropped and she hit him the same spot she had hit him earlier.
“Ow.”
“You deserve it. I actually liked the line thank you very much. But I still don’t understand.”
“Okay, well maybe you’ll understand it now.”
Max took the other package and put it in Liz’s hands.
‘ I almost forgot there was another one. Am I this special to get this from him?’
As Liz did before, she opened it up carefully. As she pushed the paper off she felt the cover of her gift.
“I knew how much you liked the brown leather ones, so I made sure that’s what you got.”
She looked to the corner of her gift and saw a lock. She took the key necklace and put the key in the lock and turned it to the left. It opened up and Liz read what it said.
Dear Liz,
I know how much trouble your last journal caused so I made sure that this one was under lock and key, literally. I was planning on giving this to you on Prom night, but second-guessing myself I know I probably gave it to you earlier. I just hope that you know how lucky I feel to finally have you as my girlfriend. Just know that I’d do anything for you and that I’m crazy for you.
Would you look at her
She looks at me
She's got me thinking about her constantly
But she don't know how I feel
And as she carries on without a doubt
I wonder if she'll figure out
I'm crazy for this girl
Love,
Max
Liz looked through the pages of her new brown, leather bound journal. There were so many empty pages waiting to be written on of triumph, sorrow, imagination, and love. She couldn’t wait for life to bring on it’s next event so she could write it all down and relive it one day, no matter how it felt. She averted her eyes from the journal and looked at Max.
“Why? Why go and buy me this?”
“Because I know how you like to write everything down and I wanted you write it down in the best journal I could find that could actually keep its secrets and actual secret.”
“Thank you. This means so much to me. You are, I don’t even know if words describe what you are.”
Tears started to fall from Liz’s eyes.
“Don’t cry, please.”
Liz laughed a little and wiped some of the tears as Max helped her, wiping some away with his thumb.
“Sorry.”
Liz took the key necklace out the lock and dangled it from her fingers.
“Could you?”
Max nodded and took the necklace from her fingers, while she turned around and pulled up her hair. Max clasped the necklace together and kissed her neck. Liz closed her eyes enjoying the sensation and turned back to Max.
“How could we have gone this long with out this?”
“I don’t know.”
“So, we have to decide what we are doing after Prom, literally and in general.”
“I say, for the general part, that we take what we get and let the surprises and obstacles just come because I know that we can face anything and for after Prom, we’ll see what everyone else is doing, maybe come back to the Crashdown or hang out here.”
Liz leaned in and kissed Max.
“I love the way you mind works.” She said between a kiss.
“Not right now you wouldn’t.”
Liz pulled away and her jaw dropped.
“I don’t know whether to be flattered and kiss you more or just punch you.”
“Just do something so we can all get back to sleep and not hear you guys get all mushy.” Isabel called from the floor.
“Please?” All the couples on the floor asked.
“You guys have been listening this whole time?” Max asked.
“Yes, now go to bed!” they called out in unison.
“We better do what they ask. We know how they get up in the morning: grouchy with afro sized bed hair.”
“Hey!”
Liz smiled as she went back to her original position as she had woken up in, only this time she played with a beautiful necklace between her fingers.
“Good night…” Liz called.
“Good Night!”
And with that, Liz fell back to sleep happier than she had ever felt in her life.

Finally! Man, am I sorry! Do you know that I had to write an essay before my break and I still have to write another before my break is over? I had birthdays to celebrate and then things to buy for Christmas, and well, the other holiday that you'll figure out after you this chapter, lol. So, how excuses was that? Here's the new part and Happy Belated Christmas and Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! (Did I miss anything? )
Chapter 15b
Saturday – 6 days till Prom
Liz looked through another rack of Prom dresses. It was an expensive store, but ‘A Night On The Town’ had the some of the most beautiful dresses ever made… in Roswell anyway.
“This store isn’t right, either.” She called out to her three best friends.
“Lizzie, honey, sweetie,” Maria began. “ We’ve been to, like, eight different stores and in each of them you always go…”
“This store isn’t right.” She said with Tess and Isabel accompanying her.
“What? I just want to find the right dress. Whether I win or not, I want to look good!”
Isabel sympathized for her friend.
“Liz, my brother is head over heels for you. I think if you came in a burlap sack dress he’d still think you were the most beautiful in the whole entire universe! Plus, if it’s Pam you’re worried about, don’t be! She’s a skank, Liz, she’s as skanky as they come and she’s probably shopping….” Before Isabel could finish, Tess finished for her.
“…In here right now!”
The four girls looked towards the entrance of the store as Pam and posse entered.
“Hide in the dressing room!” Maria exclaimed.
They ran to the nearest one and Isabel locked the door. Much to their inconvenience, the room was much too small for all of them to occupy. The walls were a, blinding, bright pink and a fancy chair was in the corner, away from the door, and was next to the wall length mirror. Liz sat down in the chair and watch as her friends reacted to the compactness.
“Maria, could you move a little! Thank god I’m not claustrophobic!” Isabel complained.
“Well, Isabel, get your huge boobs out of my face or I’ll pop them,” Maria replied. “ That should make the room bigger and give up more oxygen!”
“You guys, quit it!” Liz said as she stood up to get between them.
“My aqua bra isn’t even that huge!” Maria mumbled.
Tess sniffed and her face scrunched up in disgust.
“Oh my god! Is it just me, or is this room reeking with B.O.?” She asked as she quickly held her nose.
Liz started to laugh inside at their predicament. It was only with her friends that something like this would happen. She looked over at Maria and noticed that she was moving her hand towards that wall and saw the certain spot she was going to place it in. She just about to protest, but it was too late. As Maria’s hand touched the wall it wiped against something wet and gummy. Then, Maria started to scream.
“EWWWWW! EWWWW! EWWWW! Get it off me! GET IT OFF ME!!!!” She screamed wiping her hand on Isabel’s red, cashmere sweater.
She pushed her way to the door, with Liz in front of her, and tried to open it.
“Open up!” She said while banging the door with her tan, platform sandal.
Tess put her hand between Maria and the door to get the doorknob. She quickly unlocked it and they all fell out onto the floor in a sandwich. Liz was on the bottom, while Maria was on top of her, Tess was on top of them, and Isabel was the lucky one on top. All the customers and workers in the store looked at them.
Tess thought fast and said the first thing that popped in her head, “Polyester…”
They all made strange faces at them, but shook it off and went back to what they were doing.
“Ugh, you guys, how come when I fall out of some type of confined space I, always, end up on the bottom?” Liz cried out.
“Just lucky I guess,” Maria said with a big smile. “Plus, how could it be bad the last time? Max, the man of your dreams and the days of our lives, was on top of you. Don’t even tell even tell you weren’t think what we were all thinking! And does anybody some kind of hand sanitizer?”
“Eww!” Isabel said. “You guys do realize he’s still my brother, and I really don’t want to picture him in any moment of sexual happiness with my best friend. You see, behind closed doors, that’s your business, just don’t bring it up with me here!”
They all started to giggle and get off one another. When they were all standing up, the dressing room three doors down from them opened up. Out came Pam Troy in a
sexy, stunning, strapless, light-pink dress. She turned to see them all looking at her beautiful dress.
“I thought I heard dogs howling.”
Maria’s face turned red with anger and she squinted her eyes at Pam.
“You guys better hold me back!” Maria said as she lunged at Pam.
Before Maria could get to Pam, Isabel and Tess caught her and pulled her back. Maria squirmed and tried to get out of their grasp.
“See, Deluca even needs a leash!”
That made Maria even more furious and she tried harder to get away from Isabel and Tess. Pam smiled and laughed and cocked her head to the side to see Liz trying to leave.
“Gee, Parker, leaving so soon? I’d thought you’d want to gawk at my dress because on Prom night I don’t think you’ll get enough seeing me in it, though, I don’t think Max will see it on me, just on the ground, next to the bed.”
Now, it was Liz’s turn to get mad. She couldn’t do anything though and she bent down to pick up her purse. It felt heavy and she opened it up to find a can of Diet-Dr. P in there. She smiled and looked up. Pam had already turned around and Liz clutched her hand around the soda can.
“Hey, Pam!” She called out.
Pam turned around with a scowl on he face.
“What?”
“I’m guessing if you want to stay fit in the dress, you’re gonna have to cut down on the calories you consume.” Liz lifted Dr. P up and threw it at Pam, “Catch!”
Pam’s reaction time was slow and the can hit her right in the nose. She cried out, “Oh, my nose.”
Maria, Isabel, and Tess all stood there in surprise, as did Liz. All of Pam’s friends were by her side consoling her and giving Maria and company stares and glares. When Isabel and Tess had finally released Maria she doubled over in laughter. The can of Dr. P then, suddenly, rolled by her foot and she picked it and shook it.
“Aww ‘Marcia’, you should really put something cold and refreshing on that.”
Maria turned her back to Pam and then turned back again.
“Actually, let me help.” Maria said as she opened the can up and it erupted all over Pam and her friends. Maria smiled and said, “Hope you brought daddie’s Mastercard, cause that’ll be one hell of a cleaning bill!”
Maria drank the rest of the Dr. P and crushed the can with her right hand. She followed her, still, dazed friends out of the store and back into the mall.

Max looked at his reflection once more. He had been trying on tuxedos for the last two hours with Kyle, Alex, and Michael, but nothing seem suitable to wear for Liz. He knew anything she wore would be breathtaking, but he wanted to do what she did to him to her.
‘Does that even make sense?’
Alex came up behind him and had a similar tuxedo on.
“Max, how long have we been friends?”
Max turned his head towards Alex and cocked an eyebrow.
“What’s this about?”
“Just answer the question.”
“Since the second grade.”
“And nothing could ever ruin that, right?”
Max felt a bit uncomfortable turned his body to Alex.
“Alex, if this conversation has anything to do with my sister and what happens after Prom I’m going to clock you right now!”
Alex held his hands up in defense.
“NO! God no! I would never say anything like that to you! I was just going to give you advice on how to date women.”
Max smirked and crossed his arms against his chest.
“Okay, enlighten me.”
Alex smiled.
“Well, as you know, in the past, my mind and wisdom has surpassed even the most knowledgeable….”
Max rolled his eyes, knowing where this was heading.
“Alex, creating a holiday called, ‘Chrismukkah’, isn’t exactly what I would call surpassing the most knowledgeable.”
“Your just jealous because I have both Jesus and Moses working for me.”
Max laughed.
“Okay, now back to my rules of dating. As you know I make my rules based on experience.”
“Really?” Max asked a little skeptical about his lanky friends experiences.
“Yup, cause as you know, every year some big football player ends up peeing in one of my shoes. Nah, I'm just kidding, he pees in both of them, but that’s not the point. The point is I learned something from that, which, happens to coincide with dating women."
“What’s that?” Max asked turning back to adjust his tux.
“Well, it's my experience in life, Max, that you should always apologize, all right? Even if you didn't do anything wrong. Your shoes will get peed in so much less. That was a metaphor."
“So, what are we talking about?” Michael asked, walking in with Kyle.
“The Rules of Dating Women, narrated by Alex Whitman.”
“Really, the same Alex Whitman that created ‘Chrismukkah’?”
Max and Michael laughed and Kyle got a confused look on his face. Michael patted his back and said, “Don’t ask, you’ll find out in December.”
“Ha, Ha, Ha, laugh it up you guys. Maybe this year Jesus and Moses will leave something surprising in your shoes.” Alex said walking out of the room.

As the girls walked into the food court, the guys were heading their way. Liz looked up and saw Max. At the exact same time he looked up and saw her and their eyes met.
As the rest of the group sat a table in the corner of the room, they still stood looking at each other.
“Hey.” She finally said.
“Hey.”
“So, any luck finding a tux?”
“Yeah, after two hours we finally managed to agree on what was right and not right to wear.”
“Alex?”
“Like always. So, did you find anything?”
“Well, there’s this whole long story that goes along with it, but, the abridged version is, no.”
“You know, you don’t have to stress out over getting the perfect dress, Liz.”
“I know, but I just want to feel it, you know, like the whole world is looking at me all night because I’m in this spectacular dress and with this amazing guy.”
Max bent his head down a bit and his lips caught Liz’s in a small radiant kiss.
“How about this amazing guy is looking at you all night, not because of a dress, but because your just so beautiful?”
Liz smiled and blushed a bit.
“Sure, tell him to give me a call and we’ll go out.” Liz said giggling as she walked over to the table where her friends were sitting.
“Harsh, Liz, that was harsh.” Max called out to her as he also walked over to the table.

As the waitress gave them their drinks, three cherry cokes, three Dr. Peppers, and two Diet Cokes, she took their orders and left again. Maria saw Liz had ordered a Dr. Pepper and started to laugh. Michael gave her look.
“Oh god, she’s having one of those attacks, again!”
Maria smacked Michael in the shoulder and proceeded to talk.
“No, the funniest thing happened at the shop.”
Liz suddenly realized what Maria was about to reveal and didn’t want her other friends, especially Max, to know just yet, but it was too late.
“Pam was there and I spilled Dr. P all over her unpaid dress…”
Liz breathed a sigh of relief, but then, again, Maria quickly blurted out what Liz did before taking a sip of her Diet Coke.
“Of course, that was after Liz threw the can at her…”
In sequence, Max, Michael, Alex, and Kyle all spit out the sips of their drink in theirs mouths. Liz shielded her face from the table and Maria just kept laughing to herself. Alex was the first to recover.
“I always knew you were a good pitcher, Lizzie, but where exactly did the can hit her?”
“Her nose,” Maria said nonchalantly. “ And it was so funny! Liz, you’re my hero!”
Liz was embarrassed beyond belief. She couldn’t face Max.
‘After all we went through, what will he think of me? Will he go and find Pam and comfort her? I really need to get out of here.’
“I need to leave…” She mumbled as she left the table.
Everybody looked at Maria and shook their heads.
"What is something I said....again?"
~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~*~~
Liz quickly pushed back her seat and left the table. She started to sprint after she left the food court because she knew somebody would come after her. As she started to run, her eyes landed on something magnificent. As she stepped closer, she saw this was what she wanted for prom. In the window, on a mannequin, was astrapless black dress with glitter flowing down it. Her eyes then caught the price from tag hanging down from it.
“Three-hundred dollars. I don’t have that much.” She said to herself sadly.
“How much do you have?” A voice asked.
Liz turned to look at the person.
“Hundred-fifty, but don’t do what I think your gonna do.”
“Why?”
“Because, I’m not worth it.”
“How can you say that?”
“Because it’s true.”
“Liz, if you don’t let me do this, I’m just gonna buy the dress in full.”
“Max!”
Liz saw he wasn’t kidding when he walked into the store and found a sales woman. She saw that he pointed to the dress in the window and pulled out his wallet and gave the woman his credit card.
“That stubborn son-of-a--” Liz said as she walked into the store.
Max turned around and saw Liz coming.
“Oh, so you came to try the dress on?”
“I came to give you the hundred-fifty for it.”
“I’m not going to take it.”
“Max! It’s three-hundred dollars!”
“But I love you and you’re worth it.”
“Max!”
The sales woman came back with Max’s credit card and the receipt for him to sign. She smiled at Liz.
“Aw, this is so sweet, buying a dress for your girlfriend. And is this the lucky girl who will be wearing that lovely dress?” She asked as she gave Max the receipt and a pen.
Liz smiled back at the woman and glared at Max. He just smirked as he gave the receipt back to the woman. She ripped off another paper and gave it him, along with the bag that had the dress in it.
“Okay Mr. Evans, you’re all set. You found that dress for quite a bargain with Prom sales. You saved one hundred and fifty dollars. Have a good day you two.”
When they both exited the store, Liz slapped Max in the arm.
“You jerk! You were going to lead me to believe that dress was still three hundred when you knew damn well I could’ve paid for it myself?”
“Yes, and let me add, ow!” He said holding his arm, with the bag still in his hand.
“Well, you deserve it!”
Max lead Liz over to a bench and they both sat down.
“Liz, you deserve to have this dress. I know I said before that you didn't need the pefect dress, but I know how much this means to you. You deserve to have the best Prom because, god knows, everything else for you was screwed up. And it’s because of me and I just want to make it up to you.”
Liz took Max’s hand in hers.
“Max, I don’t want you to think that the only way to make me happy is to spend money on me. I love the journal you gave me and the lovely key-necklace,” she said touching the necklace on her neck, “but Max, I know you think that I want to have the perfect Prom, but Isabel helped me realize that as long as I’m with you it doesn’t matter what kind of dress I wear or anything else that coincides with Prom. It’s not that I don’t appreciate it…”
Max smiled and squeezed her hand.
“I get, but you’re keeping the dress and your not paying me back!”
Liz gave Max her best puppy-dog face.
“No Liz.”
“But what about in kisses? Can I pay you back in kisses, one hundred and fifty times?”
Max thought playfully and nodded. Liz smiled and kissed him. Max pulled back a tad.
“What?” Liz asked.
“Are you including tax?”
Liz laughed, hit him playfully, and kissed him again.

Pam watched from the second level as Liz and Max went all “cute”. She rolled her eyes and walked into Victoria’s Secret. She browsed a bit and then an amazing plan formed in her brain. She smiled seductively at the perfect piece of lingerie in front of her.
“I know just what I’m gonna do to break Humpty Dumpty, and after my plan is done, they’ll never get back together again! Man, I’m good!”
What?
