Okay now back to work. All I have to do is not think about anyone or anything. Not the camera guys that are filming or anything. Be my normal self. Shouldn't be too hard should it? Easy infact. Right?

Ruby’s the one doing Shakespeare, not me, Luvya.

Alex leaves and Tess and Max are talking about going out to dinner. I really need to get Candy’s phone number again, and I’m wondering if she could be back at that bar tonight. Or maybe she just goes there on the weekends?

Max asks about any decent places to eat nearby, and Dave starts making suggestions. Maria chimes in with her opinions.

“We could go back to that bar we were at last night?” I suggest.

Max and Liz both look at me like I said something outrageous. “What?” I say in my defense. “They had food.”

“They had snacks.” Tess says sharply. “We’re looking for someplace where we can have a meal.”

I roll my eyes and look away. I don’t really care where they go.

I see Michael roll his eyes, and I have to apologize. I ended up sounding much more critical than I'd meant to. "I'm sorry, Michael. I didn't mean to sound rude. It's just that it would be fun to go somepllace special to celebrate our first day on the job, someplace with real food."

Michael nods, and I can see the wheels in his head turning. I think he's probably got an idea in mind of some kind of food that he really wants.

"So, what kind of food sounds good to you guys? I'd be up for anything, really. As long as it's real food. Actually, a nice Mexican restaurant sounds really good. Anybody else like spicy food?"

"I love spicy food," I tell Tess. Growing up less than 150 miles from the Mexican border, it was kinda a requirement. There was one local Mexican restaurant that actually delivered. That would be great tonight, but I don't expect to find such a place here.

Michael shrugs. "Sure. Mexican is fine," he says, sounding kinda bored.

"Do you know a good place nearby?" Tess asks Dave and Maria. The two start debating the merits of a handful of different sites, and I look over at Liz to see what she thinks of Mexican.

"You okay with that, Liz, or would you prefer something-else?" I ask.

“Yes,” I answer his question. “That choice of restaurant does seem appealing.” I wince inwardly as I notice my speech has once again shifted. And to make matters worse, I am completely clueless as to its cause this time.

Max gives me a strange look, and I turn my attention back to my soup, still untouched.

“Liz?” Tess asks me.

“I seem to have lost my appetite. If you will please excuse me, I shall return to my duties,” I whisper out. I quickly take my tray and rush over to the trash receptacle. Tossing the soup into the trash, I head towards the door. I just hope no one finds my behavior too odd and decides to follow me and confront me about it.

I really must be returning to work if Kyle’s attendance to the sports recreational PR activity is going to get organized. Could that be why I am not as social as expected in the current situation? Am I simply not ready to converse about and help organize another late evening in Miami? Why is it that I am the only one who is in disagreement with returning home to allow less than four hours of sleep?

Okay. That was just “blah” and I am sorry. I didn’t know what to do and I needed to post something. ::shrugs:: Again, sorry.

Yeah, I think it's Monday. :)

*MICHAEL*

My lunch has been done for a while now, so when Liz leaves I take it as my cue to go, too. "I'm heading back up, too." I tell them.

"See ya," says one of the housemates. Kyle, I think, but I'm not paying attention.

"I'll come by and take a look at your work in a few minutes, Michael," Sandy promises.

I nod, and continue on my way. When I get to the elevator lobby, Liz is still there. The doors open up and we both get in. She doesn't look at me, as she punches in her floor number.

"Where are you going?" She asks the wall.

"Fifth," I say, and she pushes that button, too.

We ride up in silence, as I watch the back of her head. Liz rejected all my advances last night. She actually dumped a pitcher of water over my head. But she also talked to me like a friend. Gave me "advice" on dealing with women. Not that I needed it, of course, but it was interesting to hear her suggestions. But I know she's definately not interested in me.

"Lizzy-beth likes Maxie-Max."

With Alex, Liz and Michael gone, it’s pretty clear that our lunch break is about over. Maria, Tess, Dave and I gather up our trash and dispose of it on our way back up to the studio. Maria and Dave have settled on what they think is the best Mexican restaurants for our needs. Par t of the description of its location gets my attention. Maria mentions a landmark down the block that helps clear up my plans for the night.

As we four step out of the elevator, I linger a little and Tess slows to walk with me.

“Tess, I was wondering if you had any thoughts for what we might do after dinner.”

Tess looks at me, curiously. “Not really. Do you have something in mind?”

I grin at that. “Well, yeah. I was wondering if you’d like to go somewhere with me. Maybe to a movie or something?”

She smiles and I see a hint of laughter in her eyes. “Why? Did Maria turn you down?”

“Maria?” I ask, feeling confused.

“I saw you talking to her before lunch,” Tess explains.

“Oh!” Suddenly it all clicks. “No. That wasn’t it. I was asking her about this morning, with the car and all.”

“And what did she say?” Tess asks.

“Well, apparently she has this thing about people driving her car without asking.” I shrug.

“How come?”

I stop for a moment, surprised. I’d just assumed that it was because it was her car. It didn’t occur to me that there might be some other reason. Maybe she’d had a bad experience in the past. “I don’t know. She didn’t say.”

Tess nods. “I guess we can ask her,” she says.

“Sure,” I say. We’ve just arrived at the door of the studio where Maria and Dave arrived moments before we did.

“Wait a minute,” I touch Tess on the elbow so she'll pause. “You didn’t answer my question. I know I look a little like a Halloween monster,” I touch the side of my face where it’s become all purple and swollen from the encounter with Alex. “But, would you want to go out with me tonight?”

“Lizzie-Beth likes Maxie-Max.” I hear him whisper from behind me and I stiffen. I look up and see that we are only on our way to the third floor. I pressed the button for the third floor and the elevator stops.

“I am going to take the stairs.” I do not know why I am so uncomfortable talking about Max, but I am. “Excuse me,” I say as the doors open and I move to walk out.

My heart just melts at the sweet way that Max asked me out. Wow, so he isn't interested in Maria. At least not that way. What a relief! I'd been hoping that Max would ask me out. I'm just a little nervous about where it might lead. I still get this really strong vibe between him and Liz. But then, he asked me out, so that's saying something. Besides, he's a lot of fun and whatever comes of this can only be good.

"I'd really like that," I smile. "A movie sounds good, or whatever else is fine with me." Maybe somewhere we could go talk would be nice, even if it's just at the end of the night.

"Oh, and by the way, you're still looking good, even with the bruise," I give him a flirty smile, wanting to keep the mood light but also to let him know he does look good. The bruise is actually starting to look a little better. I find myself wishing for healing powers to fix that bruise, because I'm sure it's still sore.

"Thanks, Tess!" Max gives me a pleased grin, and the two of us head back into the office to start practicing for tomorrow's first on-air show.
