Rating: TEEN for violence
Disclaimer: I do not claim to own any Roswell Characters; I am just borrowing them for a while. And I will try to play nice so please don’t sue me! The only character that is truly mine is Kyia Hopkins.
Summary: This takes place about 20 years after Graduation episode. Zander is a famous author well known for his series of books called The Chronicles of Antar. He always knew he was different but didn’t know how different he was until he met a reporter named Elizabeth Evans.

Part 1

Zander Hopkins looked at the woman sitting across from him. She was older than him, in her late thirties perhaps. But what caught his attention was her huge brown eyes. There was a nagging in the back of his mind that he had met this woman before. But he let the thought slip as she began to speak.

“Mr. Hopkins, Thank You for meeting with me on such short notice. As I told you on the phone I have been desperate to meet you for some time, ever since I saw the article about your book in the New York Times.”

“Well thank you. I sorry but I have forgotten which paper you said you were from?” There was something not right about this woman’s story but Zander could not put his finger on what it was. She did not act like any reporter he had ever met. Most were cocky and a bit full of themselves, but this woman seemed meek and maybe even a little nervous.

“Umm, I am from the Chicago Tribune.” He had caught her in a lie. On the phone she had said some paper he had never even heard of. Even though he knew she was lying he did not feel threatened by her. Now she had peaked his curiosity.

“Well then let’s get on with the interview Miss…..”

“It’s Mrs. Elizabeth Evans”

“Well Mrs. Evans, we should hurry this along I need to get home. My kids except a bed time story before they go to sleep.”

“Oh I did not know you had children. You look so young.”

“Yeah I am twenty one but me and my wife started a family young. We were fifteen when we got married.” He watched her eyes get big at his last statement. He did not know why he was telling her about his personal life. He had been a famous writer now for three years but there weren’t many people that even knew he was married and that is the way he wanted it to stay. But there was something about this woman that he had felt he could trust her even though she had lied to him. He lit a cigarette while he waited for her next question. When she didn’t speak up he did.

“Do you believe in soul mates Mrs. Evans?” When she nodded her head yes he continued, “Well I met Kyia when I was twelve and I just knew she was the one. She lived in the same group home that I did.”

“Group home?” she asked him “I thought you were adopted?”

Zander looked at her quizzically. She had certainly done her home work. “I was adopted when I was eight months old, but when I was four the couple that adopted me couldn’t handle me so they put me back into the system were I stayed until my and Kyia ran away.”

“What do you mean ‘they couldn’t handle you’? How could they not handle a four year old?”

“I don’t really know, but I was kind of a strange kid I think. I always knew that they were not my real parents and from the time I could talk I would ask them to take me back to my dad. I think it freaked them out a little. I was also very paranoid. I would swear that we were being followed by bad guys and I would go hysterical when I was around men in dark suits. Like I said I was a weird kid. They had me in therapy for a while and when that didn’t work they decided it was best if they gave me back.” Why was he telling her all these details about his past? He had had an awful childhood. Why tell anyone about it? But for some reason he felt she should know.

“I’m sorry I didn’t know. I guess I just assumed that since you were such a child prodigy that you had come from a good home. You know? It says here that you wrote the first book in your Antar Series when you were only 14.”

“Yeah but I had the story in my head since I was a child. I suppose every child dreams of living on a different planet. I used to even draw pictures in school with violet skies and two moons. My teachers thought it was me just being creative.” Zander looked over at this so called “reporter” and saw that she was hanging on every word.

“Many of the characters in your books have special powers.” He nodded at this so she continued. “Did you ever pretend you had special powers when you were a child?” This question caught him off guard and he had an urge to flee but he calmed himself and simple nodded his head no. She looked at him for a moment as if she were trying to read his thoughts. ‘You’re just being paranoid’ he told himself.

“Well one more question before I go.” She looked down at the notebook she had brought with her. “Many of your characters have such unusual names. The king is Zan, his queen Ava, Princess Vilandra, and the general Raffe. Where did you come up with these names?”

That seemed like a nice safe question for him to answer. He liked that they were talking about his imaginary world instead of his life. “Well my son’s name is Zander after me and my daughters names are Vilandra and Avari. My wife started calling my son Zan so it would be less confusing. And my daughters we call Lonnie and Ava for short. So I guess I named the characters after my kids. They definitely think they are royalty.”

She laughed at that. She had a very comforting laugh, it made Zander instantly relax. “Do you have any pictures of them with you?” Zander nodded found a picture of his twin daughters and handed it to her. “That’s Lonnie with the straight hair and Ava the one with the curls. It’s difficult to tell them apart sometimes and there hair is the only way I can tell them apart. There mother always knows though. They just turned four last month.”

She was smiling as she looked at the picture. “They are beautiful. They look like little angels. Where do they get the blonde hair from? Their mother?”
“No Kyia has dark brown hair like mine. We don’t know where the blonde came from just one of those weird genetic things I guess.” She nodded and Zander handed her a picture of his son. She looked at it and stopped smiling. “What’s wrong?” he asked her.

She looked up at him, “Oh nothing I just thought he would look more like your daughters I guess. How old is he?” She said changing the subject. “He is five. Just started kindergarten.”

She handed the pictures back to him. “Well I hope your new book does well. Thank you for the interview Mr. Hopkins.” And with that she grabbed her stuff and left in a flash.

“Man and I thought I was always in a hurry” Zander thought to himself as he watched the woman practically run out the door.

**************
Liz Parker- Evans hurried back to her hotel room. It had been a long day and she had a feeling it was going to be a long night as well when the others discovered her news. Before she could put the key in the door it flung open. She looked up and saw a slightly agitated Michael on the other side of the door.

“Well what took so friggin’ long. We were about to send in the cavalry.”

Liz rolled her eyes at him and entered the room where her husband and her closest friends gathered. She looked at Max who seated on the bed tapping his foot nervously. She took a seat beside him and got ready to share the news.

“Well I was not sure if it was him at first. He doesn’t really look like you Max. I mean he is about your height and you have the same color hair but other than that that is the only similarity. If I saw him walking down the street I wouldn’t make a connection. His eyes are however Tess’s all the way. But then I thought a lot of people have light blue eyes. We started talking about his childhood and he was adopted but not for very long.”

Max looked at her then. “What do you mean?”

Liz cleared her throat. This was not information she wanted to tell her husband but she knew he needed to know. “Well he had a very bad childhood Max. The people that adopted him couldn’t handle him so they put him back in the system. He grew up in a group home until he was fourteen. Then him and his wife ran away.”

Max just shook his head. He knew what happened to people raised in places like that, Michael being his prime example.

“Well Liz do you think that this guy is Max’s son or what?” Michael said.

Liz looked at the grief’s stricken face of her husband. She knew he had always wanted to find his son, they had been looking for a long time. Liz didn’t think Max could handle any more disappointments in his life. They were still on the run from the FBI. The group had a friend who was a shape shifter that had infiltrated the FBI a couple of years ago. This was how the group got information that the FBI had found Max’s son and were preparing to kidnap him. However they didn’t get a name so they had no idea where to start looking. Then Liz had went into a bookstore when one book caught her eye. The Chronicles of Antar By Zander Hopkins. At first she just thought it was a coincidence until she started reading it. It mentioned everything she knew about Antar plus things she didn’t know about it. The most important aspect mentioned was the royal four. So she set up an interview with the very private author to try and find out more.

“Zander is different. I think he knew I was lying about being a reporter but he didn’t push the subject when he could have easily asked for some sort of identification. He kind of acted funny when I asked if ever dreamed of having super powers when he was a kid. I don’t know if he has any powers but he did seam very intuitive.”

Max had a far away look on his face. Liz wondered if he was blocking her out completely. “But what confirmed my any suspicions was a picture of his son.”

Max finally looked at her when she said this. “He has a son?”

“Yeah Max. Not only that but the boy looked just like you. I mean he could have been you when you were five. And he also has twin girls that look a lot like Tess. It was eerie and it gets weirder. His kid’s names are Zan, Lonnie, and Ava.

With that the room got really quiet until Isabel who had been unusual quiet the whole time spoke up. “You have got to be kidding me.”

Liz just shook her head. “I don’t think he knows what he is. He really thinks his books come from his imagination. Do you think that Tess might have done something to him so he would never forget who he was? Kind of like when Max gave him a memory.”

Max stood up and looked out the window. “I don’t know Liz. I just don’t know.” But Max did know one thing. His son was out there and he was in danger.

Part 2

Post by Athenea »

*Ok here's Part 2 Tell me what you think

Part 2

Zander was at his book signing the next day when he saw the reporter again. He was having a rough day and it was only eleven o’ clock. His wife had taken Zan to school but couldn’t find a sitter for the twins. So there he was at what was supposed to be a very professional book signing with a little girl on each knee. So seeing Mrs. Evans there he had a feeling that his hectic day was only going to get worse.

She walked right up to the table breaking in front of many people all of them giving her evil looks. “Mr. Hopkins I need to talk to you.” She said looking around at the group of people. “Privately.”

“Um, ok I have lunch at twelve how about meet me at the café we met at yesterday.” She nodded her head and walked away leaving Zander very confused.

“Who was that lady Daddy?” Ava asked him.

“That was the reporter I met yesterday”

“Oh ok,”

An hour later Zander was in the café with his daughters looking for the reporter. He finally spotted her sitting with a man with his back towards him. Zander started towards the table when the man turned around. Zander stopped in his tracks. Where had he seen this man’s face before? Then it hit him like a ton of bricks. His memory, the memory that had haunted him all his life: a young man holding a baby with a look of sorrow in his eyes. Zander started to slowly back away. Maybe they had not seen him yet. If he could just make it to the door “Daddy, daddy look it’s King Zan.” Zander looked down at Lonnie and looked back at the table. Both Miss. Evans and the man were looking at his daughter then back at him. So Zander did the only thing he could think of….he ran.

He didn’t get very far though he made it to the alley but lugging two four year olds can slow you down. He heard someone call his name.

“Zander wait. We just want to talk to you.” Miss. Evans cried out.

Zander seeing there was no since in running turned around to face him. “What do you people want?” Every fiber in his body told him to run. That whatever they had to say couldn’t be good. He felt threatened and he didn’t like it. He knew he was perfectly able to defend himself if he needed too but what if something happened to one of his kids?

“Just to talk that’s all. You might be in danger. We just want to help. Max show him.” she said

The man from his memories started to reach inside of his jacket. ‘This is it’ Zander thought, ‘He is going to pull out a gun. The time for precautions were over’ Zander held out his hand and a silver shield materialized. At the same time that Max saw Zander lift his hand Max’s green shield materialized also. Everyone stood there awhile looking in wonder at the sight before them until a little girl’s voice interrupted the daze.

“Daddy, King Zan isn’t going to hurt us. He is a good alien. Besides he would never hurt his child or his grandchildren.” Zander looked down at Ava. His daughter was never wrong about things and he knew that she spoke the truth. He slowly put down his shield and Max did the same. Zander slumped down to the ground. He did not know what else to do. Then Max spoke, “I just wanted to show you your adoption papers. I’m Max Evans and this is my wife Liz.” Lonnie walked up to Max and took the papers back to her Father.

Zander looked at the papers and saw what he expected. Under Father’s name was Max’s messy signature. His mother’s name was not on there however. Zander let out a long sigh what he was supposed to do. He asked the only question he could think of at the time. “What are you?”

2 weeks later…

Zander stared blankly at his computer screen. Since he discovered who his father was he had been in a bit of a state of shock. It had been Kyia who had handled everything she had even invited his new “relatives” to stay with them for as long as they wanted. Zander knew he had not gotten the whole story from Max yet but he wasn’t ready to speak to him yet. He had a lot of questions: Why did you give me up? What happened to my Mother? Why is this group of adults been traveling around the country together living out of a camper? And why did these people seem familiar to him? But Zander was scared to talk to them; Kyia had been wonderful in this unusual situation. She had made friends with all of them even Michael.

Zander had basically locked himself in his office and he only came out to eat with everyone. He did feel ashamed of himself but he was not in any mood to get to know his new family. ‘I mean where were they when I was developing my powers and was scared out of my mind’ he thought to himself. He heard Kyia calling him for dinner and sighed to himself. ‘Another uncomfortable meal with these people.’

*****************

Kyia watched as her husband stalked into the kitchen. She knew that this was hard for him but she didn’t really understand him. She would be ecstatic if her real family had sought her out. But that was just her; Zander was different in many ways. Kyia watched as Zander walked right past Max without even acknowledging his presence. Kyia also saw the hurt in Max’s eyes.

When Zander was out of hearing range she walked up to Max and put a hand on his shoulder. “He will come around eventually. We have just been on our own for so long that it will take some adjusting.”

Max smiled at her, “Thank you. I was thinking that finding him was maybe not the best thing for him. But your family has been so wonderful, I am thankful that I got to meet my grandchildren. You have been so kind to us, Kyia. I expected you to act like Zander. I was surprised that you accepted us so quickly.”

“You will find Your Highness that I am full of surprises. And I think it is time for you to be honest with your son and tell him where he was born.”

Max looked at Kyia dumfounded. “I don’t know what you mean.”

Kyia usually was a calm and sensible woman but Max’s comment sent her over the edge. “Max do not play dumb with me. The only reason you came looking for Zander is because you believed he was in danger. Otherwise you wouldn’t even have sought him out and he would have lived his entire life not knowing who he is. I know who you were in your first life time and how you became who you are now. Do not assume you are the only one with special abilities!”

“How do you know so much about me? Are you an alien also? Did you marry my son in order to get to me?” Everyone in the house came into the living room to see what the yelling was about.

“I am not an alien Max! How do you think your son has powers even though he is completely human? There have been people for centuries that have been able to access parts of their brains that others couldn’t. Most were burned as witches when they showed there powers to others.”

Michael cut in then. He didn’t like the way she was talking to Max. “If you’re not an alien then what the hell are you? What kind of powers do you have that make you think you know so much about Max?”

“She’s telepathic.” Zander answered. “And this conversation is over.” He said gently taking Kyia’s arm and leading her away from the group.

The group waited until they left the room before everyone started speaking at once. “Ok everyone quiet!” Maria yelled. Everyone stopped and looked at her. “Ok, so she’s human but she has powers. How is that possible?” Liz answered her question, “Didn’t Nasado tell Michael that your powers are human. So I believe she’s telling the truth.”

Kyle cut in after Liz finished,” You might believe her but I no longer trust anyone who can get into my head. So we need to make sure she’s not an alien. But how do we do that?” After Kyle’s question everyone looked at Isabel. “What! No way! I’m not going to dream walk her. Kyia has taken us into her home. Dream walking her would just be ... wrong.”

“Iz I understand where you are coming from but if she is a danger to us then we need to know about it. We need to be prepared.” Max told her.

“I don’t know Max.” Liz said, “If she is a danger to us then I would have gotten a premonition.”

Max looked at his wife they had always been warned of danger in the past by her gift so why wouldn’t they be now. “Ok Liz but we need to find out more about both of them. According to our informant, the FBI suspects Zander so we need to find out more about him and Kyia.” Max shook his head in thought. He regretted that he still didn’t know very much about his son. They had stayed in his home for the past two weeks and Zander had done nothing but avoid him. Him and his daughter had never had a really great relationship and he was hoping for something more with his son.

Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Hope Evans was born four years after Max and Liz got married. Everything was fine until it was Lexi started school. Every time they got her settled in a new school they would have to leave because the FBI was still on there trail. So he and Liz made the decision to let Lexi live in Roswell with Max’s parents. It was the second hardest decision he ever had to make. The first was giving up his son. Philip Evans made it look like he and Diane had adopted Lexi. So there was no way the FBI could trace Lexi as Liz and Max’s daughter. Max and Liz haven’t seen there daughter in years because it wasn’t safe. Now Lexi is sixteen and was going to Roswell High. She was also working as a waitress at the Crashdown.

“Maxwell, Maxwell!”

“What Michael?”

“So what do we do now?”

*Thanks for posting everyone. OK before you read this next part I just wanted to tell you that I do not know that much about science. I've taken a Bio 101 college class but since my major is psychology I scooted through it with a C so if you science buffs see something in here that couldn't possible be right just use your imagination. ~Thanks

Part 3

After Kyia and Zander had a little talk, Zander came back into the living room where the group was gathered. “I want to know everything. And you can’t lie to us because we can tell so don’t even try. Kids get in here!”

As the three children scurried into the room Zander motioned for everyone to take a seat when they did Max began speaking. “This isn’t going to be easy but I fear we are running out of time so I guess….” The next three hours were spent telling Zander and his family everything they knew. The good, the bad, and the ugly. When they had finished the kids were knocked out on the sofa. Zander took it a lot better than Max thought he would.

“So you mean to tell me that my books are not from my imagination but memory?” Zander asked trying to take it all in.

It was Liz that answered his question, “As far as we know yes. You seem to know more about Antar than anyone else in this group. It could be because you were born there.”

Kyia shook her head no, “No that’s not it, Zander didn’t you mention in one of the books that Antarian children are born possessing both their parent’s memories? So maybe that why you guys have a hard time remembering things because in this life you were not born but engineered.”

Everyone nodded in agreement with her statement. “But the problem at hand is the FBI is investigating you. I don’t know what made them suspicious but we need to know what you can do to protect yourselves.”

Zander looked at Kyia. They had swore a very long time ago that they would never tell anyone of their abilities but Zander could hear Kyia talking in his head ‘I trust them’ she said so he proceeded to tell there secrets. “Well Kyia is telepathic as you know. She can hear what others are thinking but she can also see into their subconscious meaning she can see their souls. That’s how she knew we could trust you.”

The grouped looked a little shocked at Zander’s statement about Kyia. The whole “soul seeing” thing freaked them out a little but they quickly recovered and Max asked “And what about you Zander?”

“I can create a shield as you know and I can send mental messages to people.”

“What do you mean by that?” Isabel asked

“Its like I can send images and feelings to someone else. The only people I’ve even been able to do it with is Kyia and my kids.”

“And me.” Max said. When everyone looked at him he explained, “When you were born I was hit with a rush of images that were moving so fast I couldn’t make out what they were. But I got the feeling loud and clear ‘Fear’. I knew it was you that sent them somehow and I knew you were in danger. Liz and I were swimming at the time and if she hadn’t been there I would have drowned because it was so intense.”

“I’ve learned to control it better. With Kyia’s help I learned to slow the images down. I can’t talk mind to mind like she can but it does come in handy.”

“So you can send messages and make a shield, that’s all you can do?” Michael said and was swiftly elbowed in the stomach by Maria.

When Zander looked hesitate to answer Kyia spoke up. “Zander you can tell them it will be alright.” Kyia could feel Zander hesitate and finally he just shook his head no. Kyia knew her husband was ashamed but she knew these people needed to know their abilities so she began her story. “It wasn’t long after we had run away from the home. I was working at a convenience store on second shift. We both had gotten fake ID’s that said we were 18 so we could get jobs. Zander worked 1st shift at a factory so I would leave for work while he was just coming in. Anyway I got off around 12:30 that night and was walking home. I know it was dangerous for a young girl to be walking alone at night, but I was a little cocky back then. I mean, how many fourteen year olds do you know that can move objects with her mind? I felt them walking behind me before I could see them. There were three of them and they must have been around 18 or 19. They were drunk so when they started yelling at me to slow down so they could talk to me I ignored them. I rounded the corner and there blocking my way were to more guys. They grabbed me and hauled me into the alley kicking and screaming. I used my powers to throw two of them off of me but there were five of them and they were strong. The biggest one hit kept hitting me trying to get me to stop screaming but I wouldn’t. When they started to rip my clothes off I thought ‘this is it there going to rape and kill me.’ But then it all stopped and I opened my eyes and saw five dead bodies around me. They had smoke coming off their heads like something had fried their brains. And then I saw Zander in front of me and he picked me up and took me home.”

Everyone was looking at Zander now amazed at Kyia’s story. Michael was the only one that had killed anyone and that was just one person. No one in the group had enough power to kill five people at once. I took a lot of power to use there kills one person. Isabel could dream walk three people at once but the only person they knew of that could use their power on more than three people was Tess.

Zander finally spoke up, “I was sleeping when I felt that she was in danger. I found her easily because we have a connection. When I saw those men on her something just snapped. This white light came out of me and towards their heads and they just dropped down dead. I don’t know what I did and I don’t think I meant to kill them but I did.”

“Sometimes we have to do things we don’t like to protect the ones we love.” Max told him.

“Yeah I suppose your right but we need to get the kids to bed and I am pretty beat myself.” Zander said.

“Honey you go on to bed I’ll take care of the kids.” Kyia told him. When Zander nodded and headed for their bedroom Kyia turned towards her company. “Would two of you grab a kid?” she asked and picked up Lonnie.

Max smiled “We’d be happy to help” he said and picked up Zan. “Michael get Ava would you?” Michael was about to protest when Isabel spoke up “I’ll get her.”

Max took Zan into his room and was tucking him in to his bed when the little boy started to wake. “Daddy?”

“No it’s Max.”

“Oh, are you going to keep us safe Papa?” Max was taken back by the question. First by the question itself then by the fact that Zan referred to him as ‘Papa’. The word gave Max a sense of pride.

“Yes I will keep you safe.” He said his little look-a-like drifted back to sleep.

**********

The next day Liz was looking in a microscope at the blood samples that both Zander and Kyia had given her. Liz had never gotten to finish college like she had wanted but she had learned a lot about micro biology. Liz had finished looking at Zander’s slides (which was completely human) and was looking at Kyia’s blood sample when she gasped.

Max looked up from the book he was reading. “Liz, what is it?”

“Kyia has the same genetic flaw as Laurie Dupree.”

Max looked at her quizzically. “Ok so she has the same flaw as Michael’s ‘sister’ I’m not following you.”

“Max, whoever created you had to clone humans with this specific genetic flaw because they were the only ones with the DNA that could combine with alien DNA. Are you with me?” when Max nodded his head yes she continued. “Now this is just a theory, but Zander is completely human however he could be a carrier for the alien gene. Meaning that even though he is human he could still pass on alien genes to his children. Now with Kyia’s genetic flaw that can create alien hybrids and if Zander is a carrier…”

“Zander and Kyia’s kids could be alien hybrids like me, Isabel, and Michael.” Max finished for her.

“Not just that Max, they could have even more alien DNA than you do.”

Part 4

Later that Day…..

Liz was in one of the guest bedrooms going over and over the blood samples when she heard a knock at the door.

“Hey, just making sure you guys were comfortable.” Kyia said. Liz noticed at that moment how truly young Kyia seemed. Liz had been sixteen when her own alien conspiracy had started, but she had had great friends and even a family that had supported her. Even though her parents didn’t know at the time what was going on in their daughter’s life they had still been there for Liz. Kyia and Zander had both grown up knowing they were different and had had nobody until they found each other.

“Yeah were good. Kyia, can we talk?”

“Sure Liz what’s up?” Kyia said and took a seat on the bed.

“I just want to ask you some personal questions and you don’t have to answer them if you don’t want too.”
“Liz you’ve looked through a microscope at my blood. I don’t think it gets much more personal than that.” Kyia told her

“Yeah I guess your right. I was just wondering when you were pregnant with your kids did any thing unusual happen?”

Kyia looked down for a moment in thought. “Yeah a lot of unusual things happened. That’s why I never went to a doctor or hospital when I was pregnant. Zan and the twins were born at home and Zander had a friend who did their birth certificates for us.”

“What happened that scared you so bad?”

“I knew the very moment my kids were conceived and at first I didn’t think much of it. Then I noticed if I ever got scared a shield would bubble up around me. This I kind of expected, with Zander being able to make one and all. But then one day I cut my finger on a kitchen knife and it healed instantly. I knew something was up but I didn’t have time to worry about it because I started gaining weight rapidly. Forty days after Zan was conceived he was born and it was the same with the twins. When Zan was born so early I was in shock. When I went into labor I only looked 6 months pregnant. I had gained the weight really fast but I still didn’t look full term. Then after I had them my body went back to normal. I didn’t even have any stretch marks. I knew my pregnancy might be weird but I didn’t know that it would be like that.”

Liz stared at her in disbelief. “Kyia would you mind if I took some blood samples from your kids?”

Kyia thought for a moment then nodded her head yes. “I guess that would be ok let me get them.” A few minutes later Kyia came back with her kids. Ava came in first so Liz asked her if she could prick her finger. The little girl looked unsure and looked to her Mother.

“It will be ok baby; Liz just wants to look at your blood through the microscope like she did with me and Daddy.” Kyia told her. Ava however still looked unconvinced and Liz noticed she looked at her big brother next. Zan smiled at her and nodded his head and you could see Ava relax.

After Liz had gotten the blood samples and the kids went off to play she asked Kyia, “The girls really look up to their big brother.”

“Yes they do. They are all really close. They hardly ever fight with each other and when they do argue its usually Zan and Lonnie. Ava just kind of sits back and takes it all in.”

Liz smiled at her. She hadn’t seen her own daughter since the day they had dropped her off at the Evans’ house. It had been one of the worst days of her life. How do you explain to a four year old that she can’t live with you anymore? Liz had tried to tell Lexi it was too dangerous for her to live with them, that the ‘bad people’ were after them. She had told herself she wouldn’t cry in front of her daughter but when the time came to give Lexi to Diane Evans the tears had come. When it was time to say goodbye to her daughter Liz was sobbing so hard that Max had to forcibly pry his daughter from Liz’s arms. Liz had clasped in Max’s arms afterward and he had carried her to the car. But the last thing Liz had heard from her daughter was Lexi screaming for her Mommy. Liz and Max had both cried themselves to sleep that night and Liz many nights afterward.

“You’re thinking about your daughter?” Kyia asked Liz.

“Yeah, she’ll me sixteen in a month. I can’t even call her to tell her happy birthday.”

“That must have been hard for you to give her up. It took a lot of strength to do such a thing. You are a very strong woman Liz Evans. I don’t think you realize how strong you truly are.” Kyia told her and but a hand on Liz’s shoulder. Liz felt a premonition coming as soon as Kyia touched her arm.

Kyia was running down a dark hallway. Her face was bloody and her clothes were dirty like she had run through woods. She ran up to a person on the floor and stopped to kneel down. Kyia reached down and turned the person over. You could see the person’s bloody face clearly…it was Zander. Kyia screamed in anguish as she grabbed his face. Kyia was in such torment that she did not notice that two men in suits had come up behind her.

Liz jerked out of her premonition by Kyia calling her name. “Liz what did you see?” Liz blinked a couple of times trying to clear the vision from her head

“There coming.”

Part 5

Staring at the blank screen on his computer Zander sighed to himself. He had a lot on his mind lately but he hated the fact that he was now experiencing writer’s block, something he had never had a problem with in the past. Writing helped him escape the real world and go into his own imaginary world, or so he had thought until Max Evans had showed up. And now Max expected him to pack his family up and leave their home because Liz had a premonition.

Zander looked up when he heard a knock at the door. “Come in.”

Max stepped in cautiously. “Hey, I just wanted to tell you that I am sorry all this is happening so fast. We have had to leave quickly before and I know what a pain it can be. I know we haven’t really gotten to know each other very well but maybe ……” Zander cut him off before he could say anything else. “Were not going with you Max.”

Max looked at him with a sad expression on his face. “Well, I understand. Where are you guys heading?”
“Were not leaving, we are staying right here. I am not just going to pack my family up and leave because your wife had a ‘premonition’. The FBI can’t just come in here and kill me, Max, I’m not trying to sound snobby here but I am a famous author. They can’t just come take me away, it would bring too much media attention to themselves.”

“Zander, Liz’s premonitions have never been wrong before. She has always been right about them. I can’t just stand by and watch while something happens to you. Even if you don’t want me as your father I still am your father and I feel responsible for you and your family.”

“Oh yeah, you feel responsible for me, huh? Well, where were you when I was developing powers that I couldn’t control. Where were you when my ‘father’ beat the crap out of me and locked me in the closet because I freaked him out? Where were you when Kyia and I were living on the street because it was a hell of a lot better than being sexually abused at the home? Max you stopped being responsible for me the day you gave me up so you wouldn’t have to deal with your guilt. You all tell me these horrible things about my Mother but at least she had been there for me. She left me with my Father who was supposed to take care of me and not abandon me.” Zander had never gotten this worked up before. He usually kept his emotions in check but Max being here had brought back some very bad memories and all he could feel now was anger.

Zander looked at Max who now had a look of defeat on his face. Zander almost felt sorry for the man. Almost. “I never meant for any of that to happen to you. I thought that you would get adopted by a nice normal family and live a normal life, which was something I never got the chance to have. Maybe I was being selfish but at the time I thought it was the best thing for you. I’m sorry.”

“Well sorry isn’t good enough Max. Get out of my house and leave me and my family alone.” Max just nodded his head and left the room. Zander slumped down in his chair. It had felt good to lash out at somebody but there was this nagging in the back of his mind that he had made a horrible mistake.

******

Kyia had been out in the backyard talking to Liz, Isabel, and Maria when she felt Zander’s anger. It wasn’t just anger she felt though it was a tidal wave of emotions; betrayal, fear, sadness, all mixed together. She and Zander had had a strong connection to each other since the first time they had met but she had never known him to get this upset and she didn’t know what to do about it.

While the other women kept on talking she tried to send encouraging words to her husband but he was blocking her out. A few moments later Liz stopped in mid sentence.

“Liz, what is it?” Maria asked her. Maria had been playing with Ava all day. Ava had taking a liking to her it seemed and would follow her around the house constantly asking her questions.

“It’s Max he’s upset about something, very upset.” Liz said and a second later Max came out into the yard. “Everyone pack up were leaving.”

“What now? Zander and Kyia will never be able to pack up that fast.” Isabel said and looked at Liz for support. But Liz just looked at her husband and didn’t say anything. It was Kyia who spoke up. “Were not going with you.”

“What!? Why not? You guys know what happens in Liz’s vision.” Maria said

Kyia looked at the new friends she had made over these past couple of weeks. She had never had any friends before and she hated that she now had to give them up. They had become family to her and her kids but not to Zander. “Maybe the vision was wrong.” Kyia told them with a sad smile. She knew it wasn’t wrong but maybe you couldn’t change fate.

*****

Zan had heard his Father yelling at Max. He had been in his room playing with a new monster truck his Mommy had bought for him. After he saw Max leave and head towards the backyard he snuck into his Father’s study. He had never heard his Father yell at anybody before and he didn’t like it.

“Daddy, why were you yelling at Papa Max? Did he do something bad?” Zan looked up at his son. Zander and Kyia had never planned on having children and Kyia had been on birth control with both pregnancies. Neither had wanted to raise children in such a hopeless world, but it seems fate had another plan for them. The first time he had held his son in his arms he knew that Zan was a miracle and he would have done anything for him. Even give him up to protect him? The question had popped into his head and he knew it was Kyia. Of course she was right, as usual, he would have given Zan up if he had too, but Max’s situation had been different than his own.

“Zan go tell your Mother I’m going for a walk and will be back before supper. She probably already knows but go tell her anyway.”

“OK Daddy. But be careful and remember to choose your battles.” Before he could ask his son what he meant by ‘choose your battles’ the little boy had already ran out the door.

Yes its short but hopefully the next part will be longer.

Part 6

Zander was enjoying the afternoon air when he heard the van come up behind him. All his instincts told him to run but he brushed them off. Max was making him paranoid. He pushed himself into a run. Running always helped to clear his head, and even since Max had come into his life it felt like he was suffocating.

He had grown up thinking his father had given him up but was eventually coming back for him. That dream had died by the time he was six and realized not only was he abandoned but he was also a freak. His childhood had been one nightmare after another until he met his angel in the dark, Kyia. She was his life and he lived for her and only her. She had saved his heart and soul with her love and he lived everyday trying to pay her back for that.

It wasn’t until a few minutes later that he realized the van hadn’t yet passed him yet. He was about to turn around and check when he felt a pin prick feeling on the back of his neck. He reached around and pulled off a small dart off the back of his neck. The last thing he remembered was falling to the ground and whispering his love’s name. Kyia.

**********************

Kyia was helping her house guests pack when she started to feel strange. She ignored the feeling and kept on packing when she fainted.

“Mommy!” all three kids cried out at once which got the attention of the adults. Max quickly ran over to where the kids were huddled around their mother but was thrown across the room when he hit a shield. Kyia and the kids had a silver shield up around them. Max looked up dazed as Michael tried to help him off the floor, but as soon as Michael touched Max he yelped in pain.

“What the hell, the kids got powers how that is possible? And Max you just shocked the hell out of me!” Michael yelled

“Michael get a grip!” Maria yelled right back at him. “Max how are you going to see what’s the matter with Kyia if you can’t get past their shield.” Max just shook his head still slightly dazed from getting throw across the room. Not only that but it felt like every cell in his body had been electrocuted. Michael was looking at his hand, still feeling pain from touching Max.

Liz kneeled down in front of the shield looking at the scared kids huddled around their mother. “Zan, honey, if there is something wrong with your Mother we need to get to her so we can fix her. Can you put down your shield?” Zan looked at her and nodded “It’s not just my shield its all of ours, Mommy’s too.”

“Oh, well can you put mommy’s shield down for us and get your sister’s to put theirs down.” Liz watched as the little boy nodded and closed his eyes. Zan put his small hand on the shield and it came down instantly.

The rest of the group came around and huddled around Kyia. Max came over and put his hands over Kyia trying to scan her for health problems, when he couldn’t find anything he shrugged his shoulders not really sure what to do.

“I think she just passed out or something but I can’t get her to wake up.”
Max told the others.

“Why don’t I dream walk her.” Isabel said surprising the others. Isabel usually didn’t like using her dream walking power since the time she had somehow managed to stumbled upon one of Michael’s erotic dreams about Maria. She couldn’t look Michael in the eye for months afterwards without a disgusted look on her face.

“Alright Iz give it a shot. I don’t really know what else there is to do.”

Part 7

Isabel stared at a picture of Kyia as she slowly slipped into her head. As soon as she entered Kyia’s dream she felt disoriented, almost like Kyia was in drugs. She looked around and saw she was in a room with white walls. ‘Oh God, not again.’ She thought to herself as she remembered when she had dream walked Max while he was in the white room. This was way to familiar. But how could Kyia be in the white room when she was lying in the living room floor.

Isabel heard a woman softly singing and she looked in the direction of the voice and spotted two figures sitting on the floor and she slowly made her way towards them. “Kyia? Kyia is that you. What’s going on? Are you ok?” she asked and the singing stopped.

“Isabel? What are you doing here? Oh yeah you dream walked me didn’t you?” Kyia asked “Kyia what going on?”

“He needed me so I came. He pulled me in too fast that’s probably why I passed out. This is his head we’re in.” Kyia said and for the first time Isabel noticed Zander. He was curled up in a fetal position with his head on Kyia’s lap and Kyia was stroking his head as she sang to him. Almost like a mother would do for a terrified child. Isabel looked Zander over without touching him. She didn’t want to startle him. His nose was bloody and he had a black eye. He must have fought his kidnappers with all he could.

There’s was bruising around his wrists and ankles where he had been bound tightly. He had on only a pair of scrub pants and his eyes were closed listening to Kyia’s voice. “Kyia can he tell you where he’s at maybe we can find him and save him. We saved Max when they captured him.”

Kyia stopped singing and looked at Isabel with tears in her eyes. “There killing him slowly. They don’t care about him like they did Max. They know Zanders human, they just want to get information out of him. And he would rather die before he lets these bastards know anything.”

“Kyia we can save him. Show me where he’s at.” Isabel said but Kyia just shook her head no. “They want you guys and they especially want our kids. He made me promise not to come. To stay with the kids.”

“Kyia look at me. Max just found his son. I don’t think he can take losing him please, come back to us and we will find him. I promise you.”

Kyia looked at Isabel and nodded she reached down and lifted Zander’s hand to her lips. “We’re comin’ baby. Just hold on a little longer.” She said as her and Isabel both came out of the dream together.

“Let’s go get my husband back.” Kyia said looking to the others.

*********

When the car was loaded up Kyia kneeled down for a tearful goodbye to her kids. Isabel, Maria, and Kyle were going to stay with them while Kyia, Liz, Michael and Max were going after Zander. Max had wanted Kyia to stay to but she had refused.

“Mommy’s will be back soon with daddy.” Was all she said to her kids but for some reason they were balling and wouldn’t let go of her. Finally Kyle, Maria, and Isabel had to gently remove them from Kyia.

As Kyia got into the car with the others she couldn’t help but say, “I wonder what they know that I don’t. They acted like they weren’t going to see me again.”

Part 7B

sorry this is so short but I wanted to but something up :? My muse is being a pain. Song by Ana Johnsson

Chapter 8

Michael, Max, Kyia, and Liz rode in silence for a long time until Max leaned over and turned on the radio, mostly just to ease some of the tension everyone was feeling. As the a new song started Kyia leaned back and closed her eyes, listening to the music in an effort to block out everything else.

See the devil on the doorstep now. My, oh my.

Telling everybody, oh, just how to live their lives.

Sliding down the information highway,

Buying them just like a bunch of fools.

Time is tickin' and we can't go back. my, oh my.

What were they going to do? Every moment Zander was dying slowly. She could feel him slipping away from her. Oh, he was fighting them but he knew that the longer he was alive the longer there was a possibility of them getting information about the others from him. Kyia knew no matter how much Zander and Max didn’t get along, Zander would rather die than betray him.

What about the world today?

what about the place that we call home?

We've never been so many,

And we've never been...so alone.

And even if they manage to get Zander back, what then? Would they have to live their lives on the run? She didn’t want to live like that, always looking over their shoulders. There had to be another way, there had to be, but at the moment she couldn’t think of anything.

You keep watching from your picket fence,

You keep talking but it makes no sense.

You say we're not responsible, but we are, we are.

You wash your hands, you come out clean,

But you fail to recognise, the enemy is within.

You say we're not responsible, but we are, we are.

We are.

Max glanced at Kyia in the rearview mirror and he wondered how she could be so calm, of course he supposed to the others he seemed calm too on the outside but on the inside he was panicking. This was his fault, the only reason he had given his son up in the first place was to keep him safe and danger found him anyway. Not only that his childhood had not been as Max would have imagined it to be.

One step forward making two steps back. My, oh my.

Buying pity on the bad boy's back for life.

Lining up for the grand illusion.

No answers for no questions asked,

Lining up for the execution, without knowing why...

Kyia felt it in the pit of her stomach, something was wrong, very wrong and she hoped that they weren’t too late. They finally parked outside a barbered wire fence. When they got out of the car and looked around all you could see is woods. She knew Zander was close she could still feel him, now it was only a matter of finding him.
