Chapter 1
Staring up at the beautiful star lit sky, Liz reminisced the events that had caused havoc to her small town girl personality.
She use to be the typical small town girl. She was pretty, smart, and had the star athlete as her boyfriend. Then with one instant, she became a small town girl, with something big to hide, and when it happened she didn’t realize the effects of it.
She fell in love with the reason that left her with this big secret to hide, and he loved her back. They had a love that was amazing, indescribable, every part of their love felt so right, but the thing she couldn’t understand was that why was it so wrong according to destiny?
Now she found herself, heartbroken, and longing for the King of a unknown far planet, the man who saved her life, the man who gave meaning to her entire existence.
She gave him up to follow his destiny, but he told her none of that mattered, that they choose their own destiny. If that was true, then everything she believed in heart was a lie. She believed that she was Max’s destiny, that in some parallel universe, it was faith, that he was brought upon her, and it was not only so that he could save her life, but to save her from drowning in this small town where everyone expected her to be perfect.
Then it hit her, he was her entire heart. He was her entire heart and soul, and what ever he believed, her heart did too. They chose their destinies; it took her a while to realize it, but now standing on the same balcony where everything changed between the two of them, she knew, that they were meant to be together, because that’s what their hearts wanted, not because of what was written on a book. Now all she had to do was make it up to him.

Max lay on his bed staring at the ceiling, sulking to the Counting Crows; something he found himself doing quite often since Liz left him that day at the cave.
He couldn’t understand why he couldn’t make her see, that they were meant to be, that they choose their own destinies, that they choose each other, making each other the other’s destiny.
He didn’t care about what some book told them, he didn’t care what his mother told him, he didn’t care what he did back in his old life. In this life he was Max Evans, adoptive son of Diane and Phillip Evans, a 17 year old boy who was desperately in love with Liz Parker, the girl who accepted him despite his many flaws, someone who loved him unconditionally. He just wish he could show that to her.
A loud crash brought Max out of his thoughts. He quickly got up from his bed. He knew he was the only person home, so no one could have made that loud noise. Max looked up from left to right and saw no one.
He sighed. Maybe he was just being paranoid. He ran his hands through his hair and walked in the direction of his bathroom.
“Who are you!” Max screamed lifting up his hand; getting ready to blast at the person who stood in front of him. A person who had an uncanny resemblance to him.
“Wait, please I can explain.” He said.
“Explain! WHO ARE YOU! AND WHY DO YOU LOOK LIKE ME! ARE YOU A SHAPE SHIFTER!” He screamed.
“Look I’m not here to harm you! I need to talk to you! I am you!” He said walking closer to Max. Max moved back not bringing his arm down.
“DON’T COME NEAR ME! YOU’RE A LIAR! I’M ME, YOUR NOT ME!” Max screamed.
“I am you just not in this lifetime.” The man said again.
“I’m giving you one minute to explain yourself.” Max said not putting his guard down.
“14 years from now the world is going to end, I know this because I lived it. I’m you but in another lifetime, I was able to alter the Granolith in order to changed it into a time machine so that I can come back and warn you, and so that me and you together could help change the future, and stop it from ending.”
“Why should I believe you.”
“If I were a shape shifter there would be no way that I could be able to tell the future, and in about approximately 10 seconds mom and dad are going to be coming home.” Max stared at this man, he didn’t know whether or not he should trust him.
“3...2...1.” Future Max whispered. Max didn’t hear anything.
“Well?” Max asked raising his eyebrow in question.
“I said approximately.”
“You know what..” Max started but was interrupted with the voice of his father calling out.
“ANYONE HOME?” Max look wide eyed at the man before him, he really didn’t have no other choice than to believe him. Max lowered his arm.
“Stay here.” He said walking out of the room to greet his parents, but mostly to make sure that they won’t walk into his room anytime soon.
Future Max sighed in relief and looked around and took in the familiar surroundings. He was feeling everything he ever felt when he was in that same exact room. Whenever he and Liz were together on the bed, the way she managed to make his heart flutter, and make him forget nothing else existed. He closed his eyes feeling sorrow that everything they shared would not happen if he succeed with what he planned to do.
He was brought out of his thoughts with the slamming of the door. He turned back to the younger version of himself.
“So will you help me?” He asked. Max crossed his arms around his chest.
“Well it seems like I have no choice do I?” Max said sighing walking over to his bed and sitting down, his life just became even more complicated then it was already was, and he didn’t know how much more he could take, he just wanted everything back to the way they were.
Future Max looked in the direction of the door, it was like he longed for it.
“How are they?” He asked. Max looked up at him.
“Mom and dad?” Future Max nodded.
“They’re fine, why?” Future Max sighed.
“It’s been so long since I heard their voice, since I last saw them.” He said closing his eyes remember the painful memory.
“What happened.” Max asked curiously. Future Max took a seat next to Max on the bed and looked ahead, it was as if he was as if he was non existent and not aware of anything around him.
“Me and Isabel finally told them, we were in some trouble. They didn’t care at all that we were of another species, to them we were still their children, and they loved us no less. Then when our enemies came, we tried to protect them, we told them to leave us, but they said they wouldn’t, they wanted to be with their children, that they would die for us. They died in a cross fire. I was only 22, Iz was never the same after that, I guess none us really were.” Future Max managed to keep the tears from falling.
“I’m sorry, but I promise, I’ll try my hardest for that not to happen.” Max said trying to keep his emotions intact. The fact that his parents died to protect them even after knowing their secret, he just didn’t know how to react.
“But why, what’s so special about this time, why come back to this specific moment of time?” Max asked. He didn’t see anything special with this time.
“Tomorrow night Liz is going to come over and tell you that she was wrong, and that she was sorry. That she realized that we are meant to be together because that’s what we wanted.” Future Max explained smiling at the memory. Max was ecstatic, it was finally what he was waiting for.
Future Max stood up and walked over to the window staring into the dark lit sky.
“We cemented our relationship that night, and after that we were inseparable.” Max turned to face Future Max.
“When you say cemented you mean..”
“We made love.” He said looking back to his younger self. Max nodded his head in shock.
“Wow.” He managed to get out.
“But don’t you see that can’t happen.” He explained. Max looked up at him.
“What why?”
“Max, after me and Liz made love, it marked the end of the world. Tess left, she couldn’t bare the thought of everything she worked for going down the drain. We needed her and when our enemies came to the earth, without her, everything fell apart, and we lost the battle.” Max shook his head.
“No, there has to be another way. Maybe I can talk to Tess” Max wouldn’t except it.
“I’m sorry but there is no other way. The farther away Liz is from you, the better it is. In the future your enemies are going to use Liz as a way to get to you. Right now they don’t know what she is to you, but it won’t be hidden in the future.”
“What did they do to her.”
“I just want to leave all that behind. I need your help Max, and if you want to assure the safety of the people you love, you need to let go of Liz.”

“Let me tell you something Buddha boy, I got a lamp, that needs some serious trimming.” Tess said seductively standing inches away from Kyle. As he was leaning in they were interrupted with the doorbell.
Kyle groaned in frustration. He walked in to the door and opened to find Max. He rolled his eyes, of course he had to have perfect timing, there goes all his chances with Tess.
“What you sensed some actual joy and decided to ruin the moment.” Kyle bit out angrily. Max looked at him confused but chose to ignore him.
“Is Tess around?” He asked peering over his shoulder looking for her. Suddenly she came into his view.
“We need to talk.” Max said.

“OoOoO Liz you look scrumptious. Where are you going?” Maria asked taking in Liz’s appearance as she walked into her room. She had her hair blown out straight, and wore a tight fitted red halter top with a black skirt stopping at her knees, and leather boots. Liz turned around to look at Maria.
“Oh, I’m going to talk to Max. I realized I was totally wrong about everything, and all I really want is for us to be together. I’m ready to tell him that he was right, that we are meant to be. Do you think he’ll want me back?” Liz asked nervously putting on her earring.
“Looking like that, Liz I doubt he’d be able to say no to anything, even if you asked him to sing in front of a bunch of people at the karaoke bar naked.” Liz laughed.
“Thanks Ria.” She said grabbing a picture from her table. It was the one they took together right before Tess came to town. They were so happy, and carefree, she wanted to show it to him, she wanted to tell him that they could go back to that, if he wanted them to.
“Now go get your moon doggie gidget.
****
“Look Tess by no means does this mean that we are going to have a chance in the future. I just want us to be friends. I know that you feel this destiny thing is something that needs to be put into effect, but I could never love you the way that you deserve. You deserve to be loved, you’ve lived your whole life with a man who had no heart, and you deserve to be happy, and you won’t be if your with me, because I’ll never be able to return that kind of love. But despite that, it doesn’t mean we can't be friends, I’d really like us to be friends, you’re an amazing person, and if you could forget about the destiny thing and just let loose, you’re a great girl, and really fun to be around with.” Max told her lying down on his bed, next to Tess who had a towel wrapped around her. He took his blanket cover and laid it over the two of them.
Tess didn’t know what to say, she knew what he was saying was true, but when he came to her and asked her to go through with this stupid plan she couldn’t understand what it meant for the two of them.
“Liz must of done something terrible to make you do this to her.” Tess said.
“It doesn’t matter, but I just want to say thanks for going along with it.” Max said looking at her. Tess smiled at him.
“You know I’m here for you, if you ever need anything.” Max smiled.
“Same here.” They stayed silent for a while until Tess started to giggle. Max looked over at her.
“What?” He asked curiously.
“Nothing, I was just remembering something, that me and Kyle were talking about earlier.” She said smiling at the happy memory. Max smiled, he never saw this side of Tess before, and he liked it, he hoped to see it out of her more often.
“Kyle’s a great guy Tess.” Max commented.
“Yeah he really is.” Tess said staring up at the ceiling.
“Maybe he can give you that love, the one we were talking about. I’ve seen the way he looks at you sometimes. It kind of reminded me of how I use to be with Liz. “ Tess turned to look at him.
“Really?” She asked with the hint of excitement in her voice. Max nodded.
Future Max watched from the peak of the closet, he slowly started to feel him self fade away, maybe they didn’t actually have to go through with the whole thing. Then it hit him, it was Max’s words to Tess that had done it, she was in love with Kyle, it just took some encouraging words to figure it out.
He was about to come out of the closet to tell Max that it was ok, he didn’t have to go through with it, but it was already too late. He looked over at the direction of the window and found the love of his life standing there, with the picture of the two of them in her hands; her face complete with sorrow and pain.
Max looked out the window and found Liz there with the same exact face from the day at the cave. Just seeing her like that broke his heart.
Liz couldn’t breathe, on the other side of the window lay Max and Tess naked, and they seemed perfect together, they were laughing and smiling. They were everything she and Max were suppose to be.
She dropped the photo and ran the opposite direction, tears rushing down her face as she did.
Max got up right after she left, the look on her face, it was too much for him to handle. Tess got up clutching to towel to her body. She scooted over closer to him and rested a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“I’m here.” She whispered. Max tried to hold back the tears as he looked over in the direction of the closet, where he saw Future Max disappear into nothing.
