West Roswell High – October 31st, 2005 NOON
“I’m not kidding Liz.” Maria warned, pushing Liz lightly away while she tried to hold a straight face.
“Maria, you can’t be serious.” Liz giggled, playfully pushing Maria back as they walked to the schools parking lot.
“Hey, don’t bash on Madame Vivian.” Maria warned, glancing at her watch before placing them on her hips, failing in holding her angry expression as well.
“Maria, in case you forgot, been there, done that.” Liz reminded rolling her eyes and then noticed the long over due school bus, cutting the corner and heading their way.
“Hey.” Max greeted, surprising Liz from behind by dipping her down 2 feet off the ground, holding the small of her back with his hand and knee as he kissed her ‘hello’.
“Mmm…hi.” Liz replied with a blushing grin, still in Max’s arms when she was back on her feet.
“Ugh.” Michael puffed, when Maria’s arm slapped across his stomach. “Fuck Maria!” Michael shouted, while Max and Liz laughed. “What the hell was that for?” Michael vented, caught off guard by the attack.
“Why can’t you say hello to me like that?” Maria questioned, pointing to Max and Liz, who were watching in amusement.
“You’d be lucky to get a “good-bye”.” Michael retorted rubbing his stomach and then hanging his arm around Maria’s neck, pulling her to him to get a kiss and then felt her rub apologetically on the spot she hit him. “What were you two talking about?” Michael asked, changing the subject as the bus pulled up a few feet away from them.
“Fortune tellers, curses, make-up, you know, the usual.” Maria replied sarcastically.
“Only when you’re in the conversation.” Michael commented under his breath and blocked the elbow that was aimed for his side.
“Ha ha. Very funny.” Maria snickered and then realized their presence. “What are you doing here any ways?”
“Happy to see you too, babe.” Michael answered sarcastically and then looked over to Max to roll his eyes.
“What ‘are’ you doing here?” Liz asked surprised by the visit as well. “Didn’t you guys have a game in Hartley or something?”
“We had a meeting with some scouts.” Max replied, looking down to his school letter jacket to prove it to her.
“Scouts? Really? Why didn’t you tell me? How’d it go?” Liz asked enthusiastically, noticing they were indeed wearing their hockey jerseys underneath their school jackets, Max’s having the letter “C” on his, for Captain, over his heart.
“Maxie boy here’s gonna be the next Wayne Gretzky.” Michael announced, hitting Max’s arm with a light punch and then curled in his arm to take the blow Max retaliated with.
“Yeah, I will be with my trusted Wingman.” Max laughed.
“Aww, are we witnessing a Hallmark male bonding moment.” A voice commented from behind them. A voice they identified as Kyle Valenti’s voice. “Tear.” Kyle laughed, tracing his finger down his cheek to imitate a teardrop falling when the four turned around and then turned to look to his friends behind him to laugh along with him.
“I knew I smelled bacon.” Michael commented to Max, who was standing behind Liz with his arms around her as she rested against him.
“Nice. You think that one all up yourself?” Kyle asked cockily.
“Max. Michael. Everything cool?” Sean asked as he and Billy Darden walked to their sides, holding their hockey sticks firmly in their hands.
“If it isn’t the Prison Inforcers.” Kyle broadcasted in humor.
“I’d be happy to inforce my foot up your ass, Preppy.” Billy proclaimed, about to step up to Kyle when Max’s arm stopped him.
“What do you want, Kyle?” Max asked fed up by Kyle’s unwanted presence and comments.
“Heard you guys lost last nights game.” Kyle replied, crossing his arms and stroking his chin.
“So what’s your point?” Michael asked, rolling his eyes and then looking down to Maria, who was still underneath his arm, rolling her eyes as well and glaring at Kyle and his friends.
“Point is, you guys are an embarrassment.” Kyle answered, losing his humoring tone for a more serious one. “I mean, we have football and basketball cover, All-State.” Kyle enlightened them, pointing to himself and his friends behind him. “You would think you figure skating, trailer trash, red necks could handle a Pee Wee sport like hockey.” He laughed. “I don’t know. Maybe you guys should try a sport that’s more down to your level, like baseball, non-contact.”
“Or maybe even join a club, like the Explorers’ club, I hear your girlfriend has an opening.” Paulie added with a mischievous laugh.
“What’d you say?” Max asked in rage, pushing Liz to Maria as the four hockey players met up face-to-face with the football players.
“You heard me.” Paulie replied.
“What? Do somethin’.” Sean provoked to Angus.
“Fucking Preppies.” Michael vented to Tommy.
“Yeah, I got your Preppy right here.” Tommy responded, grabbing his nuts for intimidation.
“Gotta grow some first, Pinkie.” Billy retaliated with a cool chuckle.
“Alright! Alright! Break it up!” Coach Clay ordered, waving his arm between the eight guys, turning his back to Kyle and his friends to face Max’s and his. “Evans, you get your teammates outta my guys faces, right now! They’re already in shitter with Forrester, as it is.”
“Evening Coach Clay.” Miss Toplosky greeted as she jogged to him, clutching her clipboard to her chest.
“Miss Topolsky.” Coach Clay greeted, clearing his throat and turning to face her.
“I guess you heard about my girls.” She started, shaking her head in annoyance. “A couple of them got left behind for the Cheerleading Nationals in Hartley.”
“It seems to be happening a lot lately.” Coach Clay chuckled.
“Yeah, I heard about Mr. Selgiman.”
“He’ll live.” He shrugged off, not noticing the look Maria and Liz exchange to each other.
“Well, at least we’re all going to the same city.” She declared with a sigh of relief as she wiped the sweat off her forehead.
“Actually, Miss Topolsky, we were heading to Dalhart. Forrester just requested I’d stay behind with a few of my guys to help out a few of Coach Shellows’ boys get to Hartley in one piece.” Coach Clay informed her as he pointed to Max with his chin.
“Well, surely you wouldn’t mind if a couple of girls tagged along?” Topolsky asked with a flirty bow.
“Not at all. You just let me know if you need any help carrying anything.” Coach Clay volunteered, pointing Miss Toplosky to the direction of the parked bus. “Guys.” He called out, insinuating for them to follow.
“We’ll finish this later Evans.” Kyle threatened, taking a step forward to look up at Max.
“Anytime.” Max replied, un-intimidated, and watched as Kyle walked off with Angus, Paulie and Tommy following right behind him.
“Those guys? In the same bus with us?” Sean exclaimed.
“Man, Coach Clay is just doing it to get to us.” Billy huffed, shaking his head in disbelief.
“Man, like this day couldn’t get any worse and now we have the Peroxide clan coming with us too.” Maria bickered, referring to the cheerleaders as she crossed her arms, looking over to the bus to see the Kyle and his friends helping the uniformed cheerleaders with their gear.
“We just stay together and everything will be okay.” Max advised looking at Sean, Billy and Michael for their nod of agreement. “Alright, let’s get on the bus.” Max ordered, shoving his hands in his letter jacket that the four of them were wearing, and followed behind Liz and Maria.
“Why’s Forrester pissed at you guys?” Michael asked Billy, who was walking on his left, curious about the information when Coach Clay mentioned it.
“You know Ranch High’s mascot?” Sean asked with a grin, leaning forward and looking to his right to see Billy, Michael, and Max looking back to him.
“The pig?” Max asked Sean with a puzzled laugh and then looked suspiciously to Billy before shooting a worried look to Michael.
“Sure, if that’s what my stomach’s calling him.” Billy laughed, leaning on Sean who was laughing mischievously as well.
“I knew I smelled bacon.” Michael announced, making the four of them laugh when they climbed on board the bus.
Inside School Bus
“Alright. Settle Down.” Coach Clay ordered, flapping his hand and clipboard up and down, signaling them to sit down and be quiet. “I know you guys are looking around and noticing faces you probably have never seen before. But news flash, Kiddos, you all go to the same school, so I don’t want any fights on board.” He warned, looking at everyone’s heads’, that where only visible from where he was standing. “Alright, we got a full load today. We have some of Miss Topolsky’s ladies on board. Mr…uh, what exactly is your last name?”
“Del Moah.” A slender man replied. “Just call me Eddie.”
“Right. We have Mr. Rameriz and Eddie here taking over for Mr. Selgiman’s Science club while he recovers from his little DeLuca incident.”
“He told me to light it.” Maria clarified holding her finger in the air while everyone laughed.
“Whatever the police report says, Miss DeLuca.” Coach Clay murmured indifferently under his breath as he continued to look at his clipboard. “So, we do roll, make sure you guys are all here cause I’d be crazy if I’d have to come back here for another one of you’s.” He commented, clearing his throat as he pulled his pencil from his ear and placed it on the first name. “Answer ‘here’ when I call you.” He commanded, preparing to check off the first name. “Banks, Courtney.”
“Here.”
“Burrows, Eileen?”
“Here.”
“Darden, Billy?”
“Aqui.” Billy answered in Spanish.
“Save the bilingual skills for McDonalds, Darden.” Coach Clay exhaled as he checked off Billy’s name while listening to a few giggles and chuckles from his comment. “Davis, Brody?”
“Here.”
“Delaney, Vicky?”
“Oh yeah! A-ooo.” A few guys howled.
“Here.” She answered with an egotistic smile.
“Deluca, Maria?”
“Hellllo mama. Ouch!” Was howled again.
“Hey!” Michael warned, standing half way up until the howls died down from fear.
“Here.” Maria answered with a laugh, pulling Michael to sit back down beside her.
“God save us.” Coach Clay mumbled in the same bored expression as he checked off her name and continued down the list. “DeLuca, Sean?”
“Yo!”
“Yo? Let’s get one thing straight here DeLuca. I am not your friend nor am I your bro, and I’m definitely not your Hommie. So let’s keep the street talk in the streets. Are we clear?”
“Crystal sir.” Sean saluted and then looked down to his hands while Billy snorted a laugh beside him.
“Nice going.” Billy laughed.
“Cool it.” Max ordered, looking behind him to Sean and Billy and then looked beside him to hold Liz’s hand.
“Evans, Isabel?”
“Ow. Ouch. Hot mama.” A few boys hollered and whistled once her name was called.
“This is not the Playboy Mansion, guys, so keep it in your pants.” The Coach warned as he checked her name off the list.
“Evans, Max?”
“Ouch. Roaoo.” Elaina and Vanessa howled, who were sitting to the right of Max and Liz.
“Here.” Max answered in a serious tone, unable to make out the comment that came from Kyle’s direction for trying to calm Liz down, who was being backed up by Maria from the crack of the seats.
“Ferguson, Tommy?”
“Here.”
“Guerin, Michael?”
“Ouch!” A girl howled from the front of the bus.
“Who the hell was that?” Maria exclaimed, standing up as soon as she heard the howl, but was pulled right back down by Michael, while Max and Liz laughed behind them.
“Here.”
“Harding, Tess?” The Coach continued, ignoring Maria’s outburst.
“Ouch!”
“Here.”
“That was only her boyfriend.” Maria whispered to Liz through the crack of the seats, making her laugh.
“Masterson, Angus?”
“Here.”
“Parker, Elizabeth?”
“Ouch! Oh yeah! Ouch!”

“Here.”
“Summers, Paulie?”
“Here.”
“Thompson, Elaina?”
“Here.”
“Valenti, Kyle?”
“Here Coach.”
“Whitman, Alex?”
“Here.”
“Right, and as soon as Coach Shellow and Mr. Rameriz get here we can leave.” Coach Clay announced as he glanced at his wristwatch.
“We’re here. We’re here.” Coach Shellow announced as he hopped on before Mr. Rameriz.
“Right. Larry.” Coach Clay signaled to the bus driver to drive and then sat down by Miss Topolsky. “It’s gonna be a long ride.”
Texas - 6:26P.M.
“We’re still going to this Halloween Party, right?” Michael asked, leaning to the side to see Max as Maria got on her knees to look over the seat and look down to Max and Liz.
“Yeah, what’s the plans Evans?” Sean asked as he leaned forward and Billy leaned on Max and Liz’s seat, right above Liz’s head.
“We’ll never make it.” Max replied skeptically as he shook his head and then looked over to Liz. “When are you guys done stargazing?” Max asked curiously.
“About 9 o’clock.” Liz replied looking to Maria for confirmation.
“Kinda close.” Max hissed, giving Michael an unsure look. “Our game ends at 9:30…”
“That’s if we ever get there.” Sean mumbled under his breath and looked in the direction of Larry, the bus driver. “This guy should’ve been driving the short bus…”
“Or riding in it himself.” Billy finished off.
“Look at how thick his glasses are.” Sean pointed out, seeing all their heads turn in the drivers’ direction and then laughed when they realized he was right. “That can’t be safe.”
Road Barn Field
“Laaauuurrriieee.” A calm voice called out with the blow of the wind.
Laurie turned quickly around, with her hands up defensively, looking around the dark field for the source of the voice while she whimpered.
“Laaauuurrriieee.” She heard again, but this time close enough to send a chill down her spine and make all the hairs on her arms stand up.
“Run, Laurie. Move your ass!” Laurie Dupree commanded to herself. Limping across the field, she found herself running in a crop of long blazes of grass that reached a foot above her head, knocking out all visibility in front and behind her.
“Laurie!” She heard the voice shout angrily.
“Run!” Laurie cried louder to herself, feeling the long brushes of grass hit her bare arms and legs like whips as she bolted through them. Taking a short breath in a patch of the crop, she spotted a yellow school bus coming from the right, on the dirt road ahead of her. “Oh my God!” She cried in relief and began running again. “Help me!” She shouted as she ran through what was left of the crops. “Please!” She begged once she popped out, but saw the bus maintaining its speed. “Stop! Please! Help me!” She pleaded as she ran towards the bus waving her arms frantically for the driver to see her.
School Bus
“Little snot nosed fuckers.” Larry mumbled under his breath as he quickly snuck a sip of liquor from his flask and then tucked it back in the inside pocket of his vest. “8 hours of this bullshit makes me want to go back to…” He trailed off when suddenly a blonde girl appears in the diameter of his headlights in the middle of the road.
“Please! Help Me!” Laurie pleaded, waving her arms for the bus to stop.
“Holy Shit!” Larry shouted, turning the wheel hard to the left to try and dodge her while he heard everyone scream in fear. Pressing hard on the breaks, a loud pop was heard and then suddenly the bus leaned on it’s right wheels before it finally tipped over, sliding about 50 feet down the dirt road they were riding on.
