Matthew's Haven (AU+UC,M/L,ADULT) -AN:10/09/06 [WIP]

Post by RebeccaBehrEvans »

Author: RebeccaBehrEvans

Title: "Matthew's Haven".

Category: AU… Max and Liz of course, can't write anything else. But the whole gang will be there, too. No aliens.

Rating: will become ADULT at some point.

Disclaimer: Nope, I still own nothing related to Roswell unfortunately. However the characters of 'Matthew's Haven show' belong to me and my overactive imagination.

Summary: Okay, what can I say without giving too much of the plot??
-Maxwell Evans is a famous actor who's the main character of a new TV show called 'Matthew's Haven'… they have been airing the series for almost a year now and a new actress is supposed to come and join the crew. Guess who is that, huh?
-Max doesn't know her since she's only making her debut, all he knows is that she is supposed to be playing 'Helena', 'Matthew' 's soul mate, the one and only love of his life… well you get the picture. ('Matthew' and 'Helena' were best friends since childhood, until 'Matthew' moved when he was 11, and then they lost contact. 7 years later 'Helena' moves to Glenwood, New Mexico too where Matthew is now living and when they meet again,… sparks fly. Will the 'reality' join the 'fiction'?? )
-Elizabeth Parker has been chosen to interpret a new character in a very successful American series. It's her first important contract, but she knows nothing about the show, -- except the general story line and who she is supposed to be -- since she has been living in England, France and Spain for the last three years and has only come back to the United States recently. She doesn't know who Maxwell Evans is either.
-Elizabeth is originally from Albuquerque and the series is shot in Roswell.
Guess what happens when they meet??

AN: Hey guys :P
Okay, I don't know if anyone still remembers this story, well actually, I know some of you do, but well, since it was lost in the depths of the repost board -but of course, don't worry I know I'm the only one to blame  - I thought that I would just post it here again, before giving you what maybe some of you are still waiting for… a new part. I know, I know, it's been so long that you probably don't believe it  , but I have 7 chapters to prove you wrong Image

In the meantime of course, any feedbacks will be welcome and greatly appreciated, so don't hesitate. They'll actually be all the more appreciated since not only was the last thread pruned before I could saved all your feedbacks  … but that way I'd also see if there are still some people who wish for this story to be finished.

Besides that… things you should know if you didn't read this before of if you just forgot:

Almost all the usual characters of Roswell are actors of the show, so I'm just going to give you the names of everyone in this fic and who they are supposed to be in the series. Hope it won't be too confusing.

Elizabeth Parker:Helena Foster, also called Lena by her friends and Line by Matthew.
Maxwell Evans:Matthew Bell , also called Matt by his friends.
Maria Deluca:Noelia Delamico, Helena's best friend to be.
Michael Guerin:Joshua Stevens , Matthew's best friend. Called Josh.
Isabel Ramirez:Deborah Bell, Matthew's sister.
Alexander Whitman:Andrew Johnson, Deborah's boyfriend. Called Andy.
Kyle Valenti:Anthony Johnson, Andrew's brother. Called Tony
Tessa Harding:Sarah Sheridan . (haven't decided yet if she is going to have any friends! ) Has been in love with Matthew ever since meeting him.
(I'm only telling you this to make the situations easier to understand since a lot is going to happen in the show that's going to have some repercussions on the 'actors' 'life.)

Maxwell and Tessa are together (yeah I know  Go figure!)

Sean Taylor is Elizabeth's boyfriend. (for now! ) He moved to the United States to be with her.
Ana is Maxwell's sister.

And well… the banner is still Marteloise's work  … thank U again

Chapter one

Max drove the streets of Albuquerque as fast as he could, trying his best to not be caught in the traffic jam.
Her plane was due to arrive in less than fifteen minutes and he still had almost half the town to cross before being able to take first Gibson and then south on Yale Boulevard to finally reach Albuquerque International Sunport. If he reached it one day. Anyone with brain could tell it was a 'suicidal operation' knowing that it was almost lunch time and half of Albuquerque would soon be in their cars trying to join their domicile.

Sure he knew he should have left earlier and saved himself that trouble but like always he couldn't be on time and had chosen the worst moment to leave. He might have had many qualities but punctuality was definitely not one of them. One way or another he was always running late and even with the best will in the world, it seemed that he just wasn't able to change. And now, here he was again, praying that he would reach her on time. Of course he had no doubt that she would wait for him, but he just wanted to be there when she would get off her plane. He wanted to be the first face, the first 'familiar' face, she would see after having been away for so long.

After interminable minutes and many curses on the way, he finally entered the airport parking facility and spotting the first free space, he parked his brand new jeep as well as he could. Just when he was getting out of the car, though, a group of students, most of them schoolgirls who obviously were leaving for a scholar trip, passed him by and immediately he knew he was in trouble. Having been here and gone through this several times before, he knew that even with his sunglasses on there was simply no way he would be able to go unnoticed.

'Here it goes' he thought when he heard the first 'Oh. My. God'.
Mentally preparing himself, he sighed knowing what would come next.
The cries, the screams, the squeals. His name being called repeatedly and girls almost fainting on his path.
Have you ever tried to avoid a bunch of very young, very excited and very much obsessed teenagers. It's definitively easier said than done. But it was the occupational hazards some would say. 'You chose the job! Cope with it then'.

So yes he was an actor. And a famous one furthermore.
Most of the time he found it pretty 'cool' to be recognized wherever he went, and truth was that he simply loved to be known, loved to be famous. He had worked so hard to reach this: the celebrity. It was his dream come true since for as long as he could remember he had always wanted to be there. In the spotlights, with the famous and the rich, with the known and the envied. Yeah, call him a dreamer or whatever but ever since childhood he had known he was 'different'. He had known that he was gifted, known that he would become 'someone'. And now the world knew how talented he was as well.

He had started by appearing in some commercials but soon the roles were coming and he only had to wait for them and choose those that really stirred something inside of him. Those that he knew had been written just for him.
He had really begun acting at 15 and he might only be 22 by now, but he had already made something like ten more than successful movies and even if sometimes he had only played a little part in them, his performances had always been warmly greeted by the critics.

After his last movie though, a little more than one year ago, he had been proposed a role he had known he couldn't refuse and ever since he had been the leading character of a new TV series called 'Matthew's Haven', and with that his career had taken a new turn.

Matthew Bell was an 18 teenager who lived in Glenwood, New Mexico, with his parents and sister and who led a normal life. At least as normal as being a precocious and gifted child could allow you to live. He was what others would call a 'genius', with incredible intellectual abilities and an easiness to understand the most complicated things that many envied.

The series depicted his every day life, his relationships with his family, his friends, and his surrounding, his joys and his pains, his internal battles, his desperate need to be understood and his desire to just blend into the mass and not be considered like a phenomenon or some kind of freak.

Didn’t sound so enthralling at first sight, huh? But the show was gathering up more fans than anyone had thought possible at first and ever since the first airing its popularity had never stopped growing. It was simply amazing how people seemed to love it, and identify so much with the different characters, and ever since the first episode Max Evans's name had been on everyone's lips.

Everyone knew him. Whether they loved him or they despised or hated him, everyone knew who Maxwell Evans was, or at least what he looked like and what he was doing. Whenever he appeared somewhere, whether it was for a TV program, for some charities, or for some interviews, the fans simply became hysterical. They loved him. And he loved them as well. He knew he wouldn't be where he was if it weren't for his numerous fans.

Okay, so maybe to be honest he should add numerous 'female fans', but he at least didn't care. He loved the attention they showed him. Generally.
However even if most of the time he tried to deny it, he also knew he wasn't just a talented actor, and knew that most of the teenagers and women didn't love him only for his acting skills. He also was a very handsome, very well built and sexy man, or at least that was how most of the magazines described him.

Funny how you grow up thinking you're not so special and hating so many things about your looks and a few years later you're considered as the embodiment of most of the women's fantasy, or are voted one of the 50 sexiest men in the world. Go figure, huh?
Yes, celebrity was odd sometimes but he didn't think he could live without it anymore. It had become his life and he had learnt to deal with it.

But today was different. Today the simple fact that people seemed to recognize him so easily and wanted to stop him so that they could maybe have a chance to talk with him, take some pictures of or with him or have an autograph was almost annoying him. Usually he would comply immediately and with a smile, but today he would do anything to be anonymous again because today his sister was coming home again and he was the one to pick her up.

Ana. She was his older sister and they had grown up being always very closed. They shared a connection he thought most of the siblings didn't share or even knew of. Sometimes they could have silent conversations and were able to understand each other perfectly nevertheless. Just like that, without a word. It always amazed him in fact how Ana was able to know exactly what he thought or what he felt, what he wanted or what mood he could be in just by looking at him. She certainly was the one and only person who really knew exactly who he was.

Not Max Evans the actor. Not Max Evans the public figure, the well-known and famous, the one everyone thought they knew on the outside when they only knew what he let them see, what he wanted to show them.
No, Ana saw inside of him like no one else could. Ana simply knew his mind, his soul, what made him who he was. She just knew HIM.

So yeah, maybe it could seem weird to think such a profound and deep connection could exist between a brother and a sister, but that was exactly how it felt, how he felt, and though until now he had never felt 'connected' this way with any other woman beside Ana, he often wished that some day he would be able to 'connect' even more deeply and completely with someone else. He wished that some day someone would take his heart, claim it and stir in him the most amazing and unbelievable emotions, the most unrestrained and deep passion. And he wished that someone would show him that it was indeed possible to share everything, to share himself, heart, mind, body and soul, completely and without any reserve with someone else.

But he had yet to find that someone. As crazy as it seemed Max Evans could certainly have any woman in the world if he wanted her, but he had simply never felt this way. Max Evans had simply never really 'loved'.

So true, he wasn't single right now since he was currently dating Tessa Harding, one of the other actresses of the series, and some thought that they were the cutest couple ever, but Max knew she wasn't THE one. Though he truly and sincerely cared for her, and maybe in some way -or just in his own and particular way- he did love her, it wasn't the mind blowing, breathtaking, earth shattering love. The one that you know without a doubt will never fade, the one that you can't get out of your head, the one that becomes your one and first priority, your only obsession, the one that you simply know without a doubt you will never, ever, be able to live without and let go again.

No, at 22 he was still waiting for the right one to come into his life.
But little did he know that sometimes your life could change drastically when you less expected it, and that fate had a way to work that simply couldn't be denied or stopped.

About twenty autographs later, an endless series of pictures and a last 'Sorry, but I'm really in a hurry', Max was finally able to extricate himself from his very demanding fans, and after deciding that putting the cap he constantly kept in his car on was the only way he would be able to survive in a very crowded airport and avoid any more 'badly timed harassment', he rushed through the mass of people that were hastily coming in and out, and hoped that he wasn't too late.

After being around the world for two long and interminable years, traveling and discovering foreign countries, Ana was finally coming back and though they had never lost contact and had tried to call each other as often as possible, Max was really glad that it was over. He was quite busy with the show and everything that came with celebrity but having his sister near him again and knowing that he now would be able to see her and talk to her whenever he would feel the need was the best feeling ever, and he knew he would do his best to spend every free moment he would have with her.

She had so much to tell him. He still couldn't believe the number of countries she had visited during those two years. Truth be told, if he hadn't been already in the spotlights back then, he certainly would have left everything behind and gone with her to travel the world, but he hadn't been able to do so then, so now he only hoped that Ana would have enough pictures, tapes or whatever she had brought back with her to show him everything about her long journey, everything she had seen and experienced herself and give him the impression that he had been with her. But knowing her, it shouldn't be a problem.

Finally reaching the core of the arrival terminal, he slowed down his pace and checked the arrivals indicator to see if her plane had already landed. Just when he spotted her flight, an elderly couple walked by him and he looked amused how they pulled with great difficulties the heavy amount of luggage they were carrying with them. What all the stuff they had in there was he couldn't tell, but anyone could see that it was definitely too much for two old and frail people.

Stepping backwards to make room for them he never saw the young woman who was passing behind him at the same time and literally bumped into her, almost knocking her off balance. But though she was able to stop herself from falling, she wasn't as lucky with her handbag. It escaped her hands and fell directly at Max's feet.

Red with embarrassment, he quickly bent down to get the stranger's purse and not even looking at who had collided with him he started to apologize, hoping that no one would recognize him just now. He had been doing a pretty good job at hiding behind his sunglasses and cap until then, but just that stupid act could draw too much attention on him again and that was definitely not what he needed right now.

"Sorry… I wasn't paying attention… I…"

"No… it's okay… it's not your fault… I wasn't looking either." Max heard 'her' say, and he couldn't help but think that that voice had to be the sweetest sound he had ever heard.

Slowly he stood up and for the first time really took in the stranger's appearance, his eyes traveling from her stiletto shoes to her ankles and calves, from her perfectly shaped and tanned thighs to the soft curves of her hips and breasts, until he reached her delicate bare shoulders, and his first and should he say only coherent thought was that such an outfit or body should be illegal.

'She' was clad in a burgundy mini-skirt that showed more thigh and skin than his poor heart could take and a matching wrap-over top that seemed to have been directly sewed on her.

Oh, damn. Was it suddenly very hot in here or was it only his body temperature that was dramatically increasing along with his heart rate?

He had stopped at her neck and now was almost afraid to look at her face. Afraid to be disappointed, and at the same time praying that he would be.

'She's got an ugly face, right?!' he almost hoped, sure that he wouldn't survive this encounter if her face was anything like the rest of her body. Yeah, she HAD TO HAVE an ugly face. After swallowing hard, he hesitantly looked up and his breath instantly caught in his throat.

Hadn't someone said that the human brain could suffer irreversible damage if or when submitted to an important and too long lack of oxygen? He would surely spend the rest of his life in a vegetative state if he didn't stop looking at her and didn't remember how to breathe again, and fast.

'Come on Evans, you can do it. Breathe in. Breathe out.'
Who was this girl and where was she coming from? Heavens?
She had to have the most red, glossy and kissable lips he had ever seen, and her eyes. Oh God, those eyes. Was it even normal to have such large and expressive chocolate doe eyes.
Whoever she was, in his eyes she defined perfection. And she took his breath away. Literally.

God, he had met thousands of beautiful women ever since he had started his career, but never in his life had anyone come close to her. Beautiful didn't do any justice to the apparition in front of him. She was 'out of this world', 'not of this earth' beautiful. She was enchanting. She was magnificent. She was almost indescribable. She was just too much to be described with simple words in fact, and he was totally and completely captivated.

She wasn't real, she couldn't be real, he kept repeating himself.
He was dreaming, or his mind was conjuring up his feminine ideal before his eyes, somehow materializing what could be his dream girl in front of him, or whatever, when she didn't actually and really exist. No, she just COULDN'T be real.

He heard her clear her throat and immediately blushed, realizing that even with his glasses on he surely had been caught staring at her. If what he was doing could be called just 'staring' of course because devouring her with his eyes would definitely suit better.
And that smile, he thought his eyes lingering on her lips again. What was she trying to do with that smile? Trying to kill him?

"Hmm… Uh… Sorry again…" he stammered, his voice just above a whisper, when he realized that she had to be waiting for him to say something. Man, what was suddenly wrong with his vocal cords. "…I … here's your… purse…" he finally managed to say, and extended his hand to give her her purse back.

"I'm M-Max…" he stuttered once more, trying his best, though, to ignore and not be affected by the jolt of electricity that coursed through his entire being when her fingers brushed over his own.

'I'm M-Max…' Uh?? Lame, lame, stupid, stupid YOU, he berated himself.
Oh please! Could someone put him out of his misery and show him the nearest wall so that he could go and bang his head against it. He was an actor for heaven's sake, and how many times had he introduced himself so miserably, huh? Not one! And of course it had to happen just now.

"Thank you… I'm L-L…." she started to answer before catching movement behind his shoulder and seeing two figures frantically gesturing at her.
Oh, here they were she thought.

"Actually I'm… late… I mean I'm expected… sorry… Bye!" she finished awkwardly before flashing him a shy smile and running to join her friends.

'Late? Expected?…… Uh, NO! wait… don't go… don't leave me yet', his mind suddenly and incoherently screamed when he saw her leaving, begging him to keep her, begging him to find something, anything to have her stay with him. But she was already too far away from him and heading towards two other brunettes who without a doubt had to be her friends. And by the look of it, close ones.

Max watched as they jumped up and down laughing and screaming, obviously more than happy to see her again, before engulfing her in their embrace, and he wished he could be one of them even only for the shortest instant just to know how it felt to hold her in his arms.

Unable to tear his eyes away from her, he continued to observe her from afar, trying to memorize every inch, every curve of her body. God, even that tight bun she had put her hair in and that he would have found austere on any other girl her age was simply perfect on her.

Was it possible for someone to mesmerize you completely and capture you, to invade your every thoughts and consume them in only two seconds?
Was she some sort of enchantress? Some witch sent here to cast a spell on him? Whoever she was and whatever she wanted he swore he would give her willingly.

Her name, he suddenly thought. She hadn't even given him her name. What could the name of such a beauty be? Obviously something with an L.
Lindsay?… Laurie?… Loretta?… Lauren?… Loana?… Lana?… he wondered.
Uh-huh. No, nothing like that seemed to suit her.

She had to have a special name. A different, original name. Something that made you want to repeat it over and over again. Something that made you want to scream it in ecstasy indefinitely, tirelessly, endl………

Okaaay, so maybe he should take Tessa's incessant and not so subtle suggestions and offers on and finally 'get laid' because he definitely seemed to have a problem.
Where the hell had that come from?
And for the love of God, would you just please stop looking at her butt, he suddenly groaned.

"I really missed you girls!" Liz laughed and told her friends, refusing to let go of them just yet. She knew she was nearly crushing them both to death but she didn't care.
God, it had been so long since she had seen them. Three years. Three long -too long- years without her 'favorite twins'. How she had survived to that was really beyond her.

Tiphany, Angelica, her twin sister, and Liz Parker had grown up together and been best friends for as long as they could remember since Liz's mother had been the two sisters' day-care lady. They were the same age, and were simply inseparable, going everywhere together and obstinately refusing to part. Wherever one went, the two others followed, at least until Liz's father found a new job in England and had to take all his little family with him. Back then they used to do everything together, share everything together and therefore the separation had really been heartbreaking for the three of them, but most particularly for Liz.

Leaving your best friends, the one that you had known and trusted all of your life, when you were only seventeen and you needed them more than anything else in the world was really hard, maybe the hardest thing Liz had had to do until this day, but now with this new role she had been offered -okay, so to tell the truth it was actually her 'first important' role since till now, in England and later in Spain she had almost always been an extra or had only had a few token roles- she was home again and nothing could feel as good. They really had to make up for lost time even if they had been almost in constant contact ever since Liz had left for Europe. But knowing her friends, they surely had tons of new stories to tell her already, and therefore Liz was really glad that she wouldn't have to start working until the next week. That was definitely a positive point.

Of course she planned on staying at her friends' house, here in Albuquerque, for the next week first and then, since the set was in Roswell, she would still be able to go to and fro between the two cities easily on the weekends, and that would give them all the time and opportunities they needed to catch up on everything they had missed in each other's lives between the last time they had talked on the phone and now.

Absolutely not caring if the whole airport heard them, Liz suddenly heard Tiphany and Angie squealing her name again like they still couldn't believe that she was really here, and she couldn't help but laugh at their antics. Oh yeah, some things and some people never changed, but she wouldn't want them any other way. She was going to have the time of her life here. A new house to live in, a new job, and her two best friends, what more could she ask for?

"Liz" Max whispered, letting the name roll over his tongue.
Hmm, Liz, the sweetest music to his ears, he thought dreamily after hearing her friends calling her. He could already picture how and how many times he could repeat it. How he could scream it or murmured it, sing it or just breathe it, whisper it or…
Man, get a grip! he grunted inwardly. God, he really needed to get laid. And make that soon.

"Hey handsome… were you waiting for me?" he suddenly heard a very familiar voice coming from behind him and thanked God he was at least temporarily pulled out of his reverie and his oh so not pure or innocent thoughts.

"Ana" Max turned around and yelled as soon as he realized that his sister had finally arrived. "God, I missed you so much… Sooo much!" he whispered then, immediately taking her in his arms and holding her as tightly as he could.

"Me, too, little bro… me, too!" Ana replied grinning and wrapped her own arms around his waist. How it felt good to be home again, she sighed and closed her eyes, savoring the moment, content to finally be back where she belonged.

Just when she was opening her eyes again, something drew her attention and she noticed a little brunette who was heading out of the terminal but obviously couldn't help but glance toward them. Strange girl, she thought at first, but then sure that she was certainly a fan who had recognized Max, she dismissed the thought and holding her brother's hand, she went to retrieve her luggage, not even thinking about what her gesture could look like.

Liz turned one last time, unable to not look again at that stranger, "Max", who had literally crashed into her, and she sadly smiled when she saw him hugging and then holding the hand of a beautiful woman who surely had to be some top model.

'Must be his girlfriend', she thought but tried to not analyze the strange feeling that suddenly assailed her, the sudden pang that she felt in her heart.

Of course she had to be his girlfriend, who was she kidding, like such a gorgeous guy could be single anyway. But how she wished she could be her and take her place right there and then.

UH?? What was suddenly wrong with her? And where was that coming from now? she thought, almost shocked by her own thoughts.

Okay so he might have had those incredible lips that just screamed 'please kiss me, it will be so worth it' and a body to die for, and sure smelling so good should definitely be forbidden, but she hadn't even been able to really and clearly see his face with those sunglasses and cap he had been wearing. She didn't even know him, didn't even know his last name or anything else about him, and she hadn't even had time to give him her own name. And besides she already had a boyfriend herself, and she loved him, right?

So what could it do to her if that… 'stranger' was already taken, was even married or what else, moreover when she was sure that she would certainly not see him ever again. Nothing, right? But then, why did it feel so wrong to see him with another girl?

Rapidly pulled out of her reflection by her two very talkative and excited friends, she turned around and left the airport, unfortunately missing how Max had turned to look at her one last time, too, and the sudden sadness in his eyes at seeing her leaving his life just as quickly as she had entered it.

Chapter two

Liz turned around in her bed trying to ignore the voices she could hear reaching her ears more and more clearly with each passing second. No, she didn't want to open her eyes just yet. It was still too early in the morning and she wanted to continue sleeping.
After all she had barely been able to get any sleep last night, or at least not until one in the morning, and now she just wanted to catch up every single minute she had missed.

Actually to do so she would have to sleep through two or three days in a row since she couldn't really say that her first week in Albuquerque had been a restful one. Exception made of last night, she couldn't think of a day when she had been in bed before at least two a.m. Not that she hadn't wanted to, but with Angie and Tiphany always wanting to go out and party or just catch up on lost time it had just been an impossible task.

Of course it wasn't as if she regretted it, not at all, this first week back 'home' had been the best she had spent in a very long time, but now she was really starting to feel the effects of the lack of sleep. That was why she had gotten to bed early yesterday night but then she had been so nervous about today events that sleep had simply eluded her until her body had finally given up the fight and she had drifted off to sleep feeling totally exhausted. And now that she could use some more precious minutes, she just knew they wouldn't let her.

She really didn't know how they did it. How her two friends could sleep so little and yet be in tip-top form every morning like they had slept like babies all through the night, when sometimes she had to struggle to stay awake through the day, but obviously today was no different.

And like she had predicted it, the two sisters didn't disappoint her.
Though they were trying to enter her room noiselessly, Liz could already hear them approaching her. She heard their unsuccessfully muffled giggles and tried to prepare herself for what she was sure was coming.

No sooner had she thought about that, she felt the mattress shifting beneath her and soon after she heard Tiphany and Angie's now loud giggles echoing through the room. Then, like she had somehow stepped back in the past when they were still children, Liz felt them bouncing up and down on the bed in an obvious attempt to wake her up just like they used to do it back then.

"Wake up… wake up sunshine…" she heard them yell between fits of giggles.
Turning on her side Liz tried to ignore them and prayed that they would get the hint and would leave her alone for now, even if it were to come later. But right now, yeah, it was definitely too early yet.

"WAAAAAKE UP SLEEEPYHEAD!" the twins screamed even louder.
This was Liz's first day of work and there was no way they would let her sleep in. Not when they knew how much Liz could sleep if she wasn't disturbed.

"Geez, please stop doing this… it's like being in the Pirates' ship in Europa Park all over again!" Liz suddenly groaned hoping they would stop soon or she was sure she was going to be sick. Was it possible to suffer from seasickness while on a bed? In any case, Tiphany and her sister, each on one side of the bed, were doing a pretty good job at this.

"Where?" they both stopped and asked not understanding what Liz was talking about. Europa Park? Pirates' Ship? Maybe their friend was still dreaming.

"Europa Park…. It's a theme park… in Germany!" she mumbled still not wanting to open her eyes.

"Oh!" they both said before resuming their jumping and giggling.

"Girls, I can't believe you're both twenty… sometimes you just act like little girls." Liz growled again, turning herself on her stomach now and immediately covering her head with her pillow.

Why couldn't they leave her alone just one morning?
And why hadn't she moved in with her Grandma Claudia instead of moving with those two crazy insomniacs?

During the last week she had gone and seen her Grandmother who was currently living in Santa Fe and the first thing Claudia had asked her granddaughter when she had seen her was precisely that.

Liz understood that her grandmother wanted to have her near, moreover since she hadn't seen her for a long time now, but at first she had just thought it would be more convenient to live in Albuquerque rather than in Santa Fe. But now to be honest she was really wondering if she hadn't made a mistake.

So granted it would have made the every week trip to Roswell a little longer if she had decided to live with her grandmother but since here she apparently couldn't have her quota of much needed sleep, all in all there wasn't really any difference. What she would have lost on road time, she was already losing it in rest. Go figure why she hadn't chosen the other solution.

"Come on Lizzie… there is still so much to do before your first day!" Angie said and started to shake Liz.

"I have to be there at two this afternoon… It's not even eight in the morning now… I think I'm not in any hurry!" Liz retorted her voice sounded more angry than she was. So yes, she wasn't really a morning person.
Hopefully once she would join the crew she would be able to really rest, and she wouldn't have to share a room or a trailer with anyone.
'Yeah, like they are going to treat you like a queen there. You aren't a star yet.' she silently and sarcastically berated herself.

"Come on, breakfast is almost ready, you just have to go downstairs" Tiphany said ignoring Liz's protest.
She knew Liz, and knowing her she was sure she still had a ton of thing to prepare before being able to leave, always doing everything at the last minute. But this time would be different. Tiphany had no intention to run right and left just before Liz's departure because she wouldn't find something she suddenly remembered she needed. No way. If she just got up now, they would have enough time to do everything without any pressure or stress.

"Alright just give me five more minutes!" Liz finally grumbled knowing that it was useless to fight with them. Obviously they had already decided of the course of her morning so why bother any longer. And besides, she was already wide awake now so she might as well use this time.

"Take a shower, get dressed and we'll be waiting for you downstairs!" Angie told her before moving towards the door, her sister soon following her.

"Yeah, prepare yourself for Maxwell Evans!" Tiphany couldn't help but say before exiting the room, knowing just how much this subject had unnerved Liz ever since they had started to talk about him. She just had time to dodge and avoid the pillow that Liz threw in her direction, and with all the force she could muster as soon as she heard her. Well, at least this time she had anticipated her reaction, she thought.

* * *

Not half an hour later a showered and casually dressed Liz entered the kitchen very reluctantly.

"What would Your majesty have today?… Pancakes? Waffles?… toast and jelly?" Tiphany asked with a smile when she saw Liz's face. Obviously her friend needed some help today.

"Pancakes and coffee would be fine!" Liz answered before moving to take her cup.

"Here you go!" she said while putting a plate of freshly made pancakes in front of Liz. Ever since Liz's arrival they had taken turns preparing breakfast and today had been her turn.
She then took the coffee pot and poured some coffee into Liz's cup.

"Thank you!" Liz said before taking a sip of her hot coffee and starting to pick at her food. Tiphany had to make the best pancakes ever, but today nothing tasted right. Her stomach just felt too heavy to have a real breakfast. Even the coffee she usually loved so much seemed to be too much for her this morning.

At first they all ate in silence but after a few minutes Angelica couldn't take it any longer. She just had to let it out.

"Girl, I still can't believe you're going to work with Maxwell Evans!" she said excitedly, though with a hint of jealousy in her voice.

"Yeah, God, I sooo envy you!" Tiphany added her two cents.

"This guy is a hunk !" Liz then heard Angelica saying.
God, how was she supposed to calm down and eat if they couldn't stop talking about her work and this Maxwell guy. All the week it had only been Maxwell Evans here, Maxwell Evans there, Maxwell this and Maxwell that. She swore she would hate the guy before even meeting him if they didn't stop soon.

"Yeah, he's like… like…" Tiphany started.

"…the new Jason Behr…" her sister finished for her. A habit they had that sometimes irritated Liz. Why did they feel the need to finish the sentence of the other? Looking between the two of them she had the impression to be looking at a ping pong match sometimes. Just like she was right now.

"…Only even hotter!"

"…Drop dead gorgeous!"

"Should come with a warning!…"

"…And his ass… "

"…hmmm, yeah… his ass!"

"It's a shame he's wasting his time…"

"… with that Tessa chick!… But well… the guy gotta have some flaws!"

Liz watched patiently how they continued their discussion just like she wasn't there and decided to try to finish her breakfast, inwardly wondering when they would realize that this was really becoming ridiculous and stop.

"Okay girls… could you just stop for a minute?… he's just a guy… do we really have to go through this again?" she finally admonished, knowing that this could go on indefinitely if she didn't intervene.

"Just a guy?" Angelica almost squealed.

"Liz… Maxwell Evans he's everything you want but certainly not just a guy!… he's……"

"Whatever… I can't understand how someone can be so obsessed with someone they don't even know!" Liz cut Tiphany off.

"That's because you've never seen Maxwell Evans!" Angelica threw in.

"Yeah, wait until you meet him… I'm sure by the end of the day you're going to be just as obsessed as we are… if not more!" Tiphany added with a grin.

"I seriously doubt that… and even if I were… It's not like I would go and act on it just because I'm going to be spending some time with him!" Liz said sure of herself.

"Why not? … I swear that if I could put my hands on that guy… I surely would try to make the most of it!" Angelica admitted suggestively.

"God, yes… Liz, do you realize that you're going to be this guy's girlfriend, soul mate, … whatever!!" Tiphany told her excitedly. Damn, Liz was so lucky, and she didn't even realize it.

"My character is going to be his character's love. We are just going to be partners!" Liz continued just as seriously as before.

"And what if you're more than partners?" Tiphany teased, cocking an eyebrow.

"So not going to happen!" Liz mumbled. When were they going to understand that she wasn't and wouldn't be interested in Maxwell Evans?
Was that even his real name? Maxwell, was that even 'A' name?
She had heard people being called Maxime in France, Maximillien, even Maximo or Max, but Maxwell… that was just…

'MAX'.
Oh, no, no, no! She had been doing a great job until this second. Now was not the time to lose her concentration and think about him again, she scolded herself, quickly trying to bury in some recesses of her mind the image of the Airport stranger.

"It could… Maxwell is a hunk… and you're not so bad yourself!… So why not?" Angelica questioned her.

"First because of Sean!" Liz recovered and answered, thinking that this was the best reason.

"Well… okay… insignificant detail here… doesn't stand a chance!" Tiphany waved off Liz's reply. From what she knew of Liz and Sean Taylor's relationship, she didn't think he was the one for her anyway.

"Then … because of the rule!" Liz answered after glaring at her for her remark about Sean.

"The rule?" One of the twins asked puzzled since she didn't understand right away what Liz meant.

"Yes, the rule!" Liz reiterated as if it explained everything.

"Oh yeah… of course… how could we forget the rule!" Angie suddenly said while rolling her eyes dramatically and slapping herself on the forehead.

"NEVER, EVER GET INVOLVED WITH AN ACTOR!" she then chanted in tune with her sister before bursting into laughter.

They didn't even need to look at each other to know what they were both thinking. It wouldn't take Liz long to realize that those kind of rules couldn't apply to one Maxwell Evans. They couldn't wait until the two of them would meet. Their only regret was that they wouldn't be there when Liz would see the hunk she would be working with -and probably would be kissing very soon- for the first time. They were sure there was no way Liz wouldn't be affected by him. Boyfriend or not. Rules or not. Maxwell Evans was just the kind of guy you couldn't ignore.

"And even less when you're working with him!" Liz added seriously, knowing that even if Maxwell Evans was the most handsome man in the world or even the whole universe, there was no way anything would happen between them. Not when they were working together.

Liz knew that mixing pleasure and work was a very bad combination, and she had really made a rule of not getting involved with any job partner. Add to this that due to her job logically the potential boyfriends would almost all be actors, and then it became the best repellent ever for her.

Not that actors couldn't be great people, some really were, she knew that, it was just that according to Liz an actress/actor's relationship just couldn't work. She just had to look at all those famous couples who after months, even years of being together just couldn't bear to stay in the same vicinity and ended up parting in a clash.

Besides that, even if she found the slightest interest in this Maxwell Evans, her boyfriend Sean was supposed to join her in a week or two and even if her friends often made fun of her because of her very smitten and clinging boyfriend, she was really glad he had decided to move to the States to follow her.

Not that she had asked him to of course, she would never do such a thing. It was his decision and Sean had simply claimed that he didn't want and more importantly couldn't live without her. Nevertheless, at first Liz had tried to convince him that he didn't need to completely change his life because she was moving back to the States, that she didn't want to impose this on him, but Sean hadn't wanted to hear about it. Where she was going, he would go, too, he had said.

Liz knew it wasn't fair to him, it was her choice after all, she wanted this, when he had to leave everything behind if he wanted to stay with her, but somehow she was grateful for his decision, even if she would never have asked him to do so herself and even if sometimes she also thought she was being selfish for not having outright refused or insisted some more.

But what could she say? She knew that Sean certainly loved her so much more than she loved him or would ever do, but she needed him. He had been there, comforting her, supporting her and taking care of her when her world had fallen apart all around her and when her father couldn't be there for her, too absorbed he was with his own grief, and she knew that this would bind them together forever, even if their relationship should end one day. But for now he was her lifeline. The only one, the only man she knew she could rely on.

So yes maybe what she felt for Sean wasn't the kind of love that she had dreamt about when she was a little girl and she used to think about her Prince Charming. Maybe it was more a strong and deep loving-friendship and an even deeper amount of gratitude than love or anything else that made her stay with him, but she could live with that. And she could be happy with him.

She knew that, even if she had doubted it at first. Sean cared for her more than anyone else in the world had, could or ever would she thought, and he would do anything to make her happy. The only question was, could she do the same for him?

She really believed she could some times. But then his old demons would come back and haunt him again, and Liz would start wondering once more if she was really what Sean needed. They both had been hurt so much during the past year, could they really heal each other? Mend each other's still open wounds when they weren't able to do so for themselves.

"Hey… Liz… you're zoning out again!" Angie gently said, not wanting to startle her friend but knowing that somehow she had to pull Liz out of her gloomy thoughts.

The last past week Angelica and Tiphany had methodically avoided the subject of Liz's mother tragic death, but with the first anniversary coming soon they knew that sooner or later Liz would have to talk about it. Or at least they hoped she would do so.

Liz seemed so strong outwardly but sometimes, inside, she was still just like a little girl who obstinately refused to deal with the sudden disappearance of the person she had cherished the most in the world and refused to speak about it. But the twins also knew that the more she kept her feelings hidden inside, the worse it would be eventually.

Both their parents were still alive, fortunately, but they had never shared such a close relationship with them as the one Liz had had with her mother anyway. In fact, as soon as they had both been able to stand by themselves, their parents had started traveling around the world for their business and they were rarely at home anymore, leaving them alone at their house though they provided for everything; so they could hardly imagine what it had to feel like for her to have lost her mother. Now if she could just express her feelings instead of acting like everything was fine when everyone knew it wasn't, maybe she could heal sooner.

"Uh?… oh…… yeah, sorry!" Liz apologized, grateful that her friends understood that there were things she wasn't ready to talk about just yet, and that they hadn't pushed the issue until now. But sooner or later she knew that they would start questioning her and try to convince her to let it all out. Maybe soon she would be able to.

"So…anyway… are you sure you don't want to see the face of that hot Adonis you'll be working with, huh?… I'm sure I have some pictures somewhere… I just have to go and get them! " Tiphany teased, hoping that it would be enough to distract Liz and pull her out of her previous thoughts.

"No…" Liz managed to smile. "You know I'm not supposed to see him."

"Yeah I know… just thought I could tempt you… you don't know what you're missing, though!" Tiphany answered, thinking she at least had to try again.

At first none of them had really understood why one of the reasons Liz had been selected for the role was because she didn't know what Maxwell Evans looked like -thing that if you asked them was impossible until Liz confirmed it, since for them everybody had to know Maxwell Evans- or why she wasn't supposed to try to find out before seeing him on the set, but after one week of discussing it the twins thought that it could be fun. Liz wouldn't know what hit her.

Liz, too, had found rather ridiculous the condition imposed by the director, Cal Langley, when he had accepted to give her the role, but after all she could understand his reasons. Apparently he wanted their first meeting to be a scene of the series and the fact that none of them knew the other would only make more credible the surprise they were supposed to feel after their characters' first reencounter after so long. So today she would meet her partner at the same time that she would be shooting her first scene. Well the second actually but the first one with him.
Original to say the least, huh?
She could just hope that everything would go alright.

"Are still nervous?" Angie asked her, seeing how Liz had suddenly frowned.

"Yes… I mean… what if we don't get along… they have all known each other for quite a time now… they must be like a real family already and I'm going to be an outsider in their band… what if they isolate me and don’t want anyone to enter their small circle!" she voiced again her fears. She had already talked about that with them, though maybe not so openly, but it didn't help her to relax.

"Come on Liz… we're talking about you… Elizabeth Julia Parker… you were voted 'Best listener', 'Best Confident' and 'Best caring' friend in 9th grade…. They 're so going to love you… everyone does… and besides you can befriend anyone… you don't have to worry!"

"But what if they don't?!"

"Liz… they would have to be fools to not love someone like you… and if Maxwell Evans doesn't love you and become your best friend… well after us of course… I'll seriously have to revise my opinion on him." Angie said as seriously as possible.

Don't love Liz Parker, yeah like this could happen. Liz was the sweetest and most caring and considerate person she had ever met.
Yes, really, she wouldn't be the least surprised if Maxwell Evans became indeed Liz's new best friend in no time.

But wait… that would mean that he could become her new best friend, too. Oh yeah, she so had to work on that. Maybe they could even be invited on the set and meet him. She had wanted to ask Liz about that before but she just thought it was still too soon to ask for such a favor.

"I so want to believe that… but what if I'm left aside… if I'm all alone?" Liz continued still unconvinced.

"You really don't know anything about 'Matthew's Haven', do you, huh?" Tiphany asked her, still not believing that Liz didn't know who else she was going to work with. Man, that would be fun, too!

"No… but what does this have to do with my fears?" Liz asked her, not understanding where she was going with this.

"Well… if you don't know anything about this show… you're really in for a good surprise!" Angie answered cryptically for her sister.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Oh, no… now you will have to wait!" Tiphany refused to clarify.

"What does it mean??" Liz insisted, knowing that she was obviously missing something that her friends knew, but not able to see what.

"Nothing… we were just kidding." Angie lied before trying to change the topic. " So… are we finished? … you still have to pack the things you will need. What about we help you, huh?"

"Sure!" Liz said, slightly dejected. It wasn't worth insisting any longer since obviously her friends wouldn't say more, so she just sat up and followed them.
In a few hours all this mystery would be solved anyway. This one and so many others.

An hour and a half later and after having loaded her car, which fortunately had directly arrived from Spain Saturday morning, kindly sent behind by her father, she hugged her two friends, promised to call at night to tell them about her first day, and then hit the road.

LIZ.

Max hadn't been able to get her completely out of his head during the last past week. Even spending almost all his free time with Ana hadn't been enough to make him forget or think about anything else beside the amazing, stunning, beautiful young woman he had met one week ago at the airport. He knew it was ridiculous since he didn't know her at all and the chance he would see her again were almost, if not totally, inexistent but his brain just seemed to refuse to acknowledge that fact.
It was as if, in the short time she had been standing in front of him, she had found a way to imprint herself in his brain and had managed to invade his every thoughts. And somehow it really scared him.

He couldn't help but think that it wasn't normal to feel this way. It wasn't normal to want to see someone so much again that it hurt inside, but that was exactly how he felt. Like he was terribly missing her, though he couldn't understand how it was possible to miss someone you didn't know. It was even less normal to think and feel that way when you already had someone else in your life.
If he hadn't known himself better he could have thought that he had fallen in love. With just one look at her. And that was impossible right?
But then, what was it that he was feeling?

At some point it had even depressed him to think so much about her, but by the end of the week he didn't seem to notice when he did it anymore. At least not until someone pulled him out of his reveries. The only problem was, who this someone had been sometimes.

Since his sister had been home Max had tried to make Tessa understand that he wanted to spend some time with her, but say that she hadn't taken the news very well was an understatement. She had thought that this one week break would be a great opportunity to see each other alone more often and when he had refused she had been really disappointed. Then seeing that she had no other choice, she had decided to call him instead and each occasion she had. And that was when things became a little complicated.

During one of her calls, Max was so absorbed in Liz-land that he had almost called Tessa by the brunette's name. He still thanked God he had been able to stop himself at the last second and instead of saying ' I will see you soon Liz' he had managed to say 'I will see you soon Love'.

No need to say that if he had slightly winced at the endearment, Tessa had been totally ecstatic. After that she had reminded him how much she loved him, and like always he hadn't known how to answer to that and had ended the call as soon as possible.

Turning on his side Max looked at his alarm clock and seeing the hour he decided it was time to get up. Ana had already called him twice and if he didn't appear soon, he was sure she would come and pull him out of the bed, even if she had to pull him by the ears to do so.

Quickly putting his sweatpants on, he made his way downstairs where he knew his sister was already waiting for him. And by the smell that reached his nose, she had taken care of the breakfast again.

"Hey… good morning!" Ana immediately said when she saw her brother entering the kitchen.
It was about time she thought. Five more minutes and she would have gone and kicked him out of the bed.

"Good morning Ana!" Max softly answered before giving her a short hug.
Once again he couldn't help but think that it felt really good to have her here.

The whole week it had been like this. She would come to his room and wake him up, then she would have his favorite breakfast ready -not that he wanted her to serve him, but it was just the way she was, she liked taking care of her little brother- and they would discuss their projects for the day while eating together. Sometimes their mother would even join them, too, but this morning she had obviously already left.

Today though was slightly different. Even if they still could have their breakfast together, Max knew that they wouldn't spend the whole day together like they had done all week. Today he had to go back to work and that meant that he wouldn't be with Ana again until the next weekend.

"So, are you ready to go back to your life?" Ana asked him with a smile, knowing that this last week had been like nothing he was used to.

"Yeah… I think it's time, huh? … We don't want you to get bored of your little brother too soon… and I'm sure you're glad to have the day for yourself finally!." Max teased, though he knew she didn't feel that way.

"Like this could happen!" Ana answered before passing him his plate of pancakes.
Max might have changed a lot physically in the last two years, or at least it felt that way for her, but pancakes were still his favorites. " You won't get rid of me so easily either!"

"Damn… and here I was thinking I was doing a great job!" Max joked before adding. " So… have you already decided yet what you're going to do today?"

"Not really… but I think I'm gonna go to the Mall… mom said she could come with me this afternoon."

"Women!" Max mumbled, his mouth full of food, but swallowed quickly when he saw Ana glaring at him. "Sorry… what do you want to do at the Mall anyway… I don't think you or mom could still buy anything else!" he continued.
If there was one thing Max would never understand was women and their love for shopping, moreover when they already had all they could have or wish for.
During the short time Ana had been back here she had already succeeded in dragging him twice to the Mall and she had gone another time alone with his mother.

This last time though, Max had simply refused to accompany them since the first times people had ended up recognizing him and it had been almost impossible to get out of there afterwards. Max still wondered how he, or Ana, had been able to leave without any injuries.

People -okay, the girls- had gone totally crazy and the security guards had to help him exiting the building. And let's just say that they hadn't been really pleased with the disturbance and for once Max had really started considering Cal's suggestion to hire one or two bodyguards, thing that he had always refused till then.

Though he knew it could be really useful, Max simply refused to have two guys following him everywhere and encroaching upon his life. But then he had never really needed them either. Max wasn't really the shopping or 'being always out' type. Most of the time he was shooting, or he just stayed at home. When he needed something, his mother or some hired assistant would take care of that, otherwise he just ordered by internet.

Nope definitely not a fan of shopping. Twice was enough to last him a lifetime.
And now, after hearing Ana's intentions, Max found himself suddenly glad he had to get back to work and that he wouldn't have to go through this again.

"Hey, just because you don't like shopping or getting out of this house doesn’t mean that I have to! Mom said she wanted to go to this new shop they opened… she said they have all the last and famous creations but they sell them at lower prices. "Ana replied.
Her mother and her were true fashion addicts, so if they could have the best and not ruin themselves why couldn't they take advantage of it.

"Good for you… but don’t go and buy the whole shop!"

"You know me! … so what are you up to this afternoon, huh? … what's going to happen to our dear Matthew today?" Ana questioned then.

"Not much… I have only one scene to shoot! … he's going to meet his long lost best friend again!… Then we're all supposed to be introduced to the new actress so I don't think it's going to be a long day anyway! " Max revealed.
Strange, he hadn't really thought about that for a week now, but suddenly he could feel some apprehension again. He didn't like not knowing what was going to happen and so far the new girl was still a real mystery.

"Oh yes… 'the future love of his life'! … I'm sure Tessa's gonna appreciate!"

They might not have really talked about Max's job but there was one thing Ana knew: Max's girlfriend hadn't really been thrilled to say the least to know that he would soon be kissing someone else. As far as she was concerned it wasn't, or shouldn't be a problem since she knew it was only acting, but Tessa even if she was an actress herself wasn't that understanding. What was surprising though was the fact that Max didn't seem to mind. She had thought he would have been more upset with his girlfriend's reaction but he just acted like he didn't really care.

Thinking about it maybe that was the problem. Maybe he just didn't care enough.
Ana had known that Max was seeing someone for quite a long time now, well if 7 months could be considered like a long time of course, but they had never really talked about her. When she had come back though, Max had shown her an episode of 'Matthew's Haven', since she had never been able to see the series before, and that was when she had seen Tessa Harding for the very first time.

The girl was nothing she had expected: she was short, had curly blond hair and deep blue eyes. She was indeed beautiful but Ana couldn't help being surprised by her appearance. She hadn't thought that this was Max's type at all. However she wasn't here to judge him, or her for that matter, so she hadn't really said a word to him about her first impression.

There was one thing she was sure of though. She wasn't the one, and Max knew it, too. Maybe that was why he didn't talk so much about her, or maybe that was why he hadn't seen her in a week and had preferred spending all his time with her. But what comforted her in her opinion was that he hadn't even bothered to introduce Tessa to her, and Ana was sure that it would have been the first thing he would have done if he had thought she was the one. He would have wanted his sister to meet and know the love of his life.

"Don't even talk about it…" she heard him answer. "I think I've never seen someone being so mad… but she will get used to it, I'm not worried. "Max said his tone sounding confident, though he really prayed he was right.

"How is she anyway? Have you already met her?" Ana then asked.

"Oh! I didn't tell you, did I?… it's a surprise… I'll only meet her on the set!" Max rolled his eyes again and informed his sister. And once more, he couldn't help but see the absurdity of this situation.

"Oh, it's quite… weird, isn't it?"

"Definitely… but the director wanted it this way… so!" Max just shrugged and finished his pancakes.

"I would like to be here to see your reaction… or Tessa actually!" Ana continued laughing. She didn't know Tessa but she was sure it could be fun to see her meeting the one she already considered as a rival.

"Well… she doesn’t work today… but it wouldn't surprise me if she showed up just to see the new girl and make sure she doesn’t try to take away her man" Max chuckled. No it wouldn't surprise him at all.

"Yeah… a little jealous and possessive, is she?" Ana couldn't resist making some fun of him as she remembered what she had witnessed before.
Max might have not wanted to see Tessa while she was here, but the girl seemed to be pretty stubborn and clinging. Ana could swear that she had to have called him at least a hundred of times during this week.

"A lot… but really, she's nice when you know her!" Max defended her. Tessa was a nice girl, really, otherwise he wouldn't have stayed with her for so long, moreover when he knew he didn't feel for her what she felt for him.

"If you say so… but I don't think she's just the type to enjoy seeing her boyfriend in another girl's arms… I'm not sure she even lets anyone come near you."

"Well, it's not like there are so many other women throwing themselves at me when she is anywhere near me either, so!" he joked, knowing that no one was crazy enough to want to deal with Tessa.

Ever since the medias had started talking about their relationship but also Tessa's very possessive nature, no one dared to bother him when she was with him. So far she was the best bodyguard ever. One death glare of hers could scare even the more reckless.

"That reminds me something… who is Liz?" Ana suddenly questioned and seeing the face of her brother, she instantly sensed that this would be interesting. Wow, maybe she should have started with this.

Max choked on his coffee and started coughing before being able to utter a strangled and shocked "WHAT?"

"Liz… who is Liz? … you never talked to me about her… yet I'm sure there is a lot to say, isn't it? … are you keeping secrets from your sister here?" she teased, knowing that he had no idea how she could know about a Liz in his life.

Max looked at her totally dumbfounded and wondered if she had secret powers or what. How the hell could she know about Liz? He hadn't talked about her to anyone since meeting her. He hadn't even pronounced her name since that day. She just couldn't know.

"So???" Ana insisted impatiently.
Oh yeah, she had found something big here, Max was almost ready to faint. Well, who would have thought that going to wake him up could lead to this, huh?

"How… how do you know about L-Liz?" he stammered helplessly, still not being able to process everything. First they were talking about his job and Tessa and now he found himself in the Twilight Zone, where his sister could read his mind.

"So… there is indeed a Liz, huh?… you secretive thing… why didn't you talk to me about her?"

"You're not answering my question… how do you know about Liz?" Max insisted, too. Man, that was freaky.

"Okay… when I came to your room this morning and yesterday as well… you were obviously dreaming… and moaning her name. " she finally elucidated but Max didn't feel relieved for all that. He actually even felt worse when she continued suggestively. "Hmm, Liz… oh Liz… "

Now he was mortified and wished the floor could open beneath him and swallow him whole. It was one thing to be close to your sister, but he definitely didn't want her to know about his fantasies or his …*cough*… slightly erotic dreams.

Desperately he tried to avoid the question and sat up to put his cup and plate in the sink. But obviously it was the last straw for Ana, and he heard her bursting into laughter while she continued her suggestive and very much inappropriate moaning.

"Okay… stop… I get the picture…" Max suddenly groaned but didn't dare turn and look at his sister. "… she's just… a girl!"

"Yeah, just a girl… she has to be some girl if she can affect you like this… hmm, I'm not sure Tessa is going to like that, though… do you think she would like that, huh?" Ana continued, not realizing how embarrassing this was for Max.

"She won't know anyway…" Max confessed. "… Could you stop now please!"

"Oh come on…" Ana pouted before going on. There was no way he could stop there. She had to know more. "Okay, Max… seriously… who is Liz?… and why did you keep this from me?… I thought you told me everything……And of course… how come, if she's just a girl, that Liz seems to move you more than Tessa has ever done!"

"What are you talking about?" Max feigned to not understand what she was insinuating.
Yet, the truth was that he had realized that himself but he had just refused to give it too much thought or come to any conclusion. He knew all too well where it would lead if he did so.

"What am I talking about? … Max, look at you… I just say her name and you almost choke… I ask you who she is, and you refuse to talk about her, you usually never do that… and more importantly… you hear her name and you become all flustered, try to escape the conversation, look everywhere but at me, and I swear I've never seen anyone pass by as many shades of red as you just did! … So, I'm asking you again! WHO. IS. LIZ?"

"She… she's just a girl… I told you…" Max repeated again. "… a girl I met… but I won't see her ever again… so there is no need talking about her again, okay?"

"Obviously there is if you can't stop dreaming about her, and by the sound of it… I don't think your dreams were all that innocent… " she paused to look at him but he still didn't react. "Max, I don't understand… what are you doing with Tessa if you obviously want to be with someone else?"

"Ana… it's not what you think… " Max stuttered.
So yes, he had dreamt about Liz, and yes those dreams were definitely not innocent, but what could he say about them, or about Liz. There was nothing to say. How could he look at his sister anyway and tell her that he was fantasizing about a girl he had only seen once in his life. She would think he was totally losing it. He actually thought so himself already, so.

"Then explain it to me… maybe there is something I'm missing… why won't you see her again when it's so obvious you would like to?… What?… did the girl resist your charm?? I don't think so!… so what?… what are you not telling me?… and what did this girl do to you?…" She said smiling, but all smile left her lips when she saw and heard Max's reaction.

"Fine… you want to know the truth… Liz is someone I met last week… at the airport… when I was waiting for you… I don't know her and she doesn't know who the hell I am… I won't see her again because I was stupid enough to let her leave without asking for her surname or anything that would have helped me contacting her again… satisfied?… Now you can laugh all you want… " Max all but snapped at last, even if regretted having raised his voice at her the second his rant was over.

God, he hadn't even had any intention to give her this information, or any kind of information on Liz in fact, but hearing her making fun of the situation had just somehow unnerved him and he had been unable to stop himself.
Now it was all out and he was sure Ana would think he was a fool.

"Max… I'm sorry… I didn't mean to upset you!… I just thought she was some crush you refused to talk about… Are you sure you can't find a way to find her?" she apologized and asked.
That was definitely not what she had expected. Here she was making fun of him when obviously her brother was taking this way more seriously.
Honestly it hurt her to see him like this, yet at the same time it really surprised her, too. Max wasn't really the type to fall at first sight, though she knew he believed in true love, but obviously this Liz girl had made quite an impression on him.

"She didn't even give me her name… I only know it because I heard her two friends calling her Liz… she just left as soon as she came!" he whispered, the regret evident in his voice. " Look… I'm sorry for reacting this way… I still have one or two things I have to take care of before leaving… maybe we could talk about this at another time, okay…" he then added before quickly taking her in his arms and exiting the kitchen.
He really didn't need his sister to open his eyes on the reality of the situation. Not if he wanted to concentrate on his work. He would already have enough to do with his new partner.

Seeing him leave so dejected Ana regretted even more having brought the topic up, but she had really not known Max was feeling this way, or that someone could become so important to him in such a short period of time.

Yes, as strange as it seemed and though she was sure Max had probably not realized it yet, he had fallen, and fallen hard. If only she could do something to help him feeling better now. But what could she do? She didn't know anything more about the airport girl than he did, she hadn't even seen her. Therefore she could only pray that somehow they would meet again and Max wouldn't let her leave again without trying to know her or more about her.

But there was one thing Ana didn't doubt. If Max and 'Liz' were meant to be, they would find their way to each other. One way or another.

Title: "Matthew's Haven".

Disclaimer: Nope, I still own nothing related to Roswell unfortunately. However the characters of 'Matthew's Haven show' belong to me and my overactive imagination.

AN: Hey guys...
Before posting I just wnat to thank U all for the amazing feedbacks... I'm still impressed to see anyone replying when this is a re-run   ... it really means a lot that you guys like this story enough to let me know about it... again :D

Applebylicious
Rebecca, this was my face when I saw you reposting this.

 … well, this --> :shocked!: was my face when I saw your feedback

I'm really glad to have you here, and I'll do my best to uh… 'satisfy' you
Thanks for the feedback

VivaLasVegas
This was exactly what I was going to say! I still have the old thread saved in my Favorites folder...I actually checked for updates a few days ago. Can't wait to read the new chapters!

Another one? … well, I'm glad, and I really hope you'll like how the story continues, too
Thanks, too, for leaving feedback on this old, old story

Candy#1Dreamer.
WoW. I started reading this story sometime last August or July and then I just couldn’t find it anymore. I really like this story and I'm glad that you are going to finish.

Yeah, I know it has been sooo long  … but I hope it won't be till the next chapters  … thank U for your feedback and for your nice PM

XoXoDreamerXoXo: Thanks for the feedback as well :P

Sweetbrowneyes:
This is great. So Max and Liz won't meet until the cameras are rolling and the scene is shooting. I've never heard of that happening before. So many possiblies of how they could react.

LOL… yeah, well I don't think it would ever happen this way in reality, but hey, this is fiction, and it sounded like so much more fun that way,
It's really weird you know to see the reaction of someone who hasn't read this yet  … I guess you'll have to wait just a little more to see how they both react

This should be fun. And word of advice to Max and Liz, dump the clingy counterparts and hook up as soon as you meet. Yes, I'm being irrational, but damn it Tess pisses me off and she hasn't even made an appearence yet. Anyway, post more soon

Well... It will happen, don't worry… eventually  … as for Tess making an appearance, unfortunately I think that no matter how or when, it will always be too soon
Thanks, too, for giving this story a try and leaving feedback

Frenchkiss:
Rebecca this part was sweet and funny. Max and Liz are both hooked but they're still in denial. Tess and Sean have to go, especially the gerbil. It's going to be intersting when Max and Liz will meet again, sparks will definitely fly.

No kidding  … yeah, there will be sparks, but you already know that, don't you?

Angelica and Tiphany are crazy It's a good thing they're only fictional characters, huh?

 … like you don't know they are. Not… I mean come on, after last night, don't you see where all this is coming from… I swear, I know those girls personally
Thanks U so much for always leaving feedback, even when you've already read this

Behrsgirl77:
Rebecca! I finally got my ass over here to read this. I was planning on reading it in the past but then you stopped writing it Then you said...you're going to finish all of the (most) lol! I was like YEAH!!

I'm glad you did since that means I'll receive nice feedbacks, just like I love them… and you know how much I love yours

Okay so I read this part at work...I don't know how I have time to work when I'm reading all the time lol! But I have to say...the meeting in part 1 was *sigh* and Liz's two friends are just too much...I can't WAIT..and I mean WAIT until Max and Liz meet up again...ooh!! Hurry Back!!!

Well, if you like the first one  … wait until the second one, I guess two people won't know what hits them
Thanks U, too :P

Roswellluver: Thank U sooo much for always leaving feedback :P

Gigo:
Well... I won't really harass you unless you stop posting this. While you look like you're still on track, I'll leave you in peace.

 … you know I don't mind anyways   … I'm just happy you like this story enough to do so

Now, I know I said I wouldn't harass you unless you stopped posting, but I lied. Or maybe I just don't have much patience when it comes to this story

LOL… you know lying is baaad  … but okay, I guess I could post faster
Thanks for the feedback :P

Milla:
Hmmm... why do I have a hard time believing in it. Oh, yeah right, because she's lying, even she doesn't know that. She IS interested in Max Evans, and she's only seen him for a few seconds and she hasn't seen his eyes. Let's be honest, if she couldn't stop thinking about him without seeing his eyes, well after she does... oh I'm so stupid I already know what will happen

 … yeah, I guess we all know those eyes of his are lethal :lol:she just doesn't know it yet

Just like I said, twins are the best. Reading it I thought that it would be fun if the visited Liz on the set, and maybe saw her kissing Max, of course NOT in front of camera. I would love to see their reaction on something like this.

Well, they are supposed to go to the set sooner or later… but I hadn't thought about it that way… I'll see  … though I guess there would be no way to hold them down if they saw something like that happening and they didn't know about it beforehand
Thank you so much, too

Kaela:
I am even coming out of my posting cave to post my first message in months!! Thats how much i want you too keep going with this fic!!

 thank you so much then  … I remember how much you loved this, and I'm glad reading it again is still a pleasure :P

Seeing as i know you had written at least 7 chapters for it last time you posted it that means you already have those parts written, meaning you can post them sooner rather than later!!

Yep… I'll do that, and then… new ones
Thanks, too :D

Smac
Yes Rebecca get back her soon with the next part. I adore this fic and I can't wait to see all the old parts back up as well as the new one you have written.

Hey, you… I'm glad to see you're okay… you really got me worried for a while  … of course it's always a pleasure having you on my stories and I'm happy this one is no different  … Thank you so much for always letting me know what you think :P

Aurorasky:
i am so glad the you decided to repost the story again!!

Okay… here goes the next part now :P

Chapter three

After an approximate three hours trip, Liz sighed when she finally saw Roswell entrance sign.
Oh-kay, here she was.

Quickly looking at the indications sheet Cal had faxed her during the week, she turned left and followed a long road then turned twice right and drove until she could see the large facility that could only be the studio.

Stopping at the barrier she smiled at the guard who immediately asked her who she was, and if she had a pass.

Showing him the one she had received, she was finally able to enter and she couldn't help but gasp when she saw how large the place really was. There were buildings, sets, and outside décors everywhere, all surrounded by interminable open spaces. Everything together gave her the impression that she had entered a whole new town.
How could she not get lost in here? she wondered.

Not really paying attention to the sign that was in front of her, she parked her car as soon as possible and quickly made her way to a little reception lodge on her right.
There, a tall and lanky man indicated her where she would be able to find Cal Langley's office.

Reaching his door she softly knocked and waited for a response. At first nothing came so she was contemplating knocking again when suddenly a short redhead woman threw the door open and glared at her from head to toes.

After what felt like eternity for Liz, she finally looked her straight in the eye and introduced herself.

"Hello! I'm Cynthia Sanders, Cal Langley's secretary and assistant… You must be Elizabeth…" she said before looking at the document she had in hands. " … Parker… Elizabeth Parker."

"Yes… Hello… "Liz stammered suddenly forgetting what she was supposed to say or do.
Looking at the woman she couldn't help but think that she had never seen someone looking so professional and at the same time so austere, and she really hoped she wouldn't have to often deal with her. Not that she was there to make any friends and even less with the director's assistant but she had hoped that people here would be more smiling and welcome her differently.

"Okay… you're just in time… Cal is busy right now but he will see you before the shooting and give you the general instructions… I for one am supposed to show you around a little bit, then I will show you where you can change and prepare yourself. You will also have to go through the make-up and hairdo stuff and then Cal will be waiting for you on the set…… Like you already know, you only have two scenes scheduled today… when you finish you'll come back here to sign all the papers we will need you to, and Cal will go through your contract with you again… Someone else will also give you a tour of the whole area later… If you have any questions, ask them, I'll try to answer them as well as I can… if you don’t, all the better… we won't waste any time then… Now if you have some stuff in your car that you will need later on or right now… give me your car keys and I'll send someone to go and fetch it! … any question so far… No?… great… then we can start." Cynthia told her without batting an eyelid or giving Liz time to process everything she had heard. She hadn't even been able to think about a question that she was already deciding that she didn't have any.

'WOW, has the girl even breathed during her whole speech.' Liz thought before wondering if with time it couldn't be dangerous for the girl's brain.

Before Liz could react Cynthia had moved forward and was already distancing her.
Liz ran behind her and couldn't help but think that to an external eye, she had to look totally ridiculous.
Yes, so far this was really not what she had expected.

"So… " Cynthia started without even caring to look and see if Liz was following her. "This part of the area is reserved to the actors… on your right you have the main actors' Residence… it's divided into several bungalows… normally each actor or actress shares one with someone else… We'll take you to yours later… it'll certainly be Maria Deluca… she's the actress you'll be living with… don't worry… all your things will be there when you finish with your scenes… but if you need anything else… just ask her…… Behind you have the cafeteria… it's not the best but it's all we have… you'll get used to it… and…" she continued on and on.

Liz looked at all she was showing her and tried to memorize everything but she was speaking so fast that it was almost impossible. She couldn't even place a word herself, except maybe from an 'okay', 'oh really' or a 'thank you' here and there.

All in all and even after those long explanations, the only thing Liz had really registered was where she was going to live -talk about a waste of saliva- and from afar it looked quite nice.

The cafeteria though was nothing but an ugly one floor prefabricated and violet building and Liz could only think that if the food was anything like its external appearance, yeah she would definitely have to get use to it. She was not picky, but that thing really didn't make you want to go in there and eat.

"On the back… over there…" Cynthia pointed in front of her."… you have the main sets… the school, where you'll start,… the different class rooms,… Matthew's house… the Paradise Café, where everyone hangs out and you'll be working, Noelia's apartment and then yours just in front of hers…someone will show you all this later on and more in details, but basically it's all you have to know since you'll be mainly shooting on those sets… then on the furthest part you have the outside and external décors … but they are only occasionally used… so don't worry… now we'll go and see what we call the 'arrangements' building."

"Okay!" Liz mumbled. She didn't even really give her time to see what she was supposed to that she was already moving again. All Liz could really take in was that the area was even larger than what she had first thought. It really seemed to run indefinitely.

Liz entered just behind Cynthia and saw people walking everywhere and she wondered if any of them was going to be a real partner or if they were just mainly extras.
She could come across Maxwell Evans right now and she wouldn't even know it she then realized. God, the more she thought about it the more she found this situation really laughable.

They took some staircase and after walking for a few minutes Liz found herself in front of a large wooden door.

"Here is the dressing room…" Cynthia informed her before going in and opening several wardrobes. "… you can wear your own clothes if you really want but for now we'd rather see you choosing something through those ones here… these are your personal wardrobes… hopefully everything will fit you since it's supposed to be your size… but if there is any problem, inform us and we'll just send the items to the dressmakers…… Now… I have to go and see some of the extras to give them their planning… meanwhile choose something… preferably something sexy… get dressed… and I'll be back in about fifteen minutes. Then we'll go to the making-up."

And with that she left Liz in front of so much clothes that she thought it would take her forever to make her decision. She had known that most of the productions, at least those that had substantial budgets, often provided for this kind of things but she had never thought she would be given almost total free choice.

'Something sexy?' Well everything she was seeing so far definitely was, but since her character was supposed to be self-confident and very sexy precisely, it didn't surprise her.

After looking for several minutes through everything, she settled for a pair of jeans and a short top that definitely would hug her forms where they had to. She quickly entered one of the changing cubicles, got dressed and just as Cynthia reappeared she was finishing and was ready to follow her again. Just in time.

The two women walked side by side till the end of the corridor and stopped again when they reached their next destination.

"Here we are… I'll have to leave you here since I have other matters to attend… … For the hairdresser you'll have to go to the second floor… you just turn once on your left, twice right, twice left again and then it's the third door on the right side… you can't miss it!… oh and Cal asked that you let your hair loose… that was his only recommendation!" she announced at the same time that she opened the door in front of her.

Right now Liz was absolutely sure that if she asked her to sum up what she had just said, she wouldn't be able to restitute it right. She would certainly have to ask someone again, because there was no way she would be able to find her way in those long corridors.

"Elizabeth… this is Constance Dupree… one of our make-up artists… Constance… this is Elizabeth Parker, the new actress we were waiting for." Cynthia quickly introduced them before reminding Liz again that once she would have finished here, she would have to go directly to the hairdresser and then join Cal.

Like she would be able to do that alone, Liz thought again. Usually she had a good sense of direction and had no problem following some indications but this woman had really succeeded in disorientating her completely.

Leaving her between the expert's hands, Cynthia then excused herself and left the room without a second glance to Liz, and right at this moment she realized that she had never been more happy to see someone leave.

Now all alone by herself, she could only pray she would be able to manage from here and that everyone wouldn't be anything like this woman otherwise she would be back on the road to Albuquerque and on the next plane to Spain before the end of the day.

"Hi… nice to meet you!" after a short and awkward silence, Liz finally extended her hand and greeted the young woman. If she had a guess she would say that she had to be around her 25, 30 maybe but definitely not more.

"Me, too… Ravie de te rencontrer. Comment ça va? (nice to meet you. How are you?)" the young, green-eyed brunette shook her hand and said with the largest and warmest smile Liz had seen so far, her obvious kindness immediately contrasting with the secretary's coldness and distance.

It took her several seconds though to realize that she was speaking to her in French and with no accent at all.

"Uh… bien… merci…(fine, thank you) how…?" Liz stuttered still a little confused. She was going to ask her how she knew French when Constance cut her off.

"I'm French…" she giggled sensing Liz's surprise."… I heard that you had been living in France and I just couldn't resist!… I think I can't even remember the last time I really spoke French with someone who actually knew the language. J'espère que ça ne te dérange pas!( hope you don't mind)" she elucidated, never departing herself from her smile.

"Pas du tout (not at all) … actually, it has been almost a year for me, too… but I think I'm still able to make a conversation! I wouldn't have guessed you were French… you're really fluent in English!" Liz answered impressed but smiling.
If you didn't knew, there was simply no way you could say she wasn't American.

"Yeah, thank you… English had always been my favorite subject at school… so when I got the opportunity to come and visit the United States I took the first flight… and here I am… almost 6 years later…… still refusing to go back… Take a seat please!" Constance elaborated before inviting Liz to sit down so that she could start making her up.

"Thank you!…So… how did you end up here?… I mean … being a make-up artist on some TV show?" Liz asked curious once she was settled.

"Well… I was living in LA when I first arrived and one day I answered an advertisement … they were looking for some make-up artists, hairdresser, stylists etc… I presented myself without knowing that it was for some movie… I was hired and I've been working on movies and TV shows ever since… I met the already known Maxwell Evans on the last movie I was working on, and when he was offered this role, he kind of imposed me to the production." Constance answered while she searched for all the products she would need.

She could still remember the conversation she had had with Max over one year ago. The movie had been finished and like always she was thinking she would have to wait again to be contacted when he had said that she could always come with him instead of waiting for the next opportunity. That he would ask Cal Langley, the director, with whom he had already been in contact before, and that he was sure that it wouldn't be a problem. This way she would have a fix job for at least 3 years, since all the actors had signed for that long and unless the series was a total flop she would have nothing to fear concerning unemployment.

He had been right about everything. Since he was already quite known and respected and since she came recommended by him, she had been hired immediately, and the series was a total success.

"Well that was great of him… " Liz said, thinking that they had to be really good friends, or that Maxwell had to really like her if he had wanted her to follow him.

"Yeah it was… " Constance said before 'inspecting' Liz's skin. "Wow… your skin looks really incredible… I don't think you're going to need so much make-up… maybe just some eye-shadow and some lip-gloss… but… hey… honestly… what's your secret… I don't think you could have a tan like yours in France!" she then changed the subject and told her admiringly, glad she wouldn't have to use a ton of make-up base on her. Now this would really change her from Tessa and all the one she had to use to be sure to cover all her pimples and imperfections. She couldn't also help but marvel at the beautiful tan she had.

"Actually, no… I've been living in Spain for the last year… My father is a well known Chef in Europe… he opened several restaurants there…we first lived in England than we moved to France and finally to Spain… I didn't stay more than one year in each country but I really liked them all" Liz informed her, surprised that she felt so at ease with a woman she didn't even know.

"So you're English?" Constance questioned, misunderstanding her and thinking that Liz was originally from England but only then had moved to the other countries. Strange, she didn't have any accent at all.

She then started to apply a very small amount of light beige make-up base on Liz's flawless skin and worked on it.

"Hmm… no… I'm totally American!" Liz laughed, though sometimes she wondered herself what she really was, having moved and discovered so many new cultures.
After having lived in London, Paris and Barcelona she still couldn't decide which one she loved the more. Each town was so different and at the same time so special. She had also made a few trips to Germany and Switzerland when she hadn't been working and had had enough time ahead. "In fact… I was born and raised in Albuquerque… all my friends are still there."

"Really… well I think it's… Michael… who also comes from Albuquerque, but I'm not sure…"

"Oh really?"

"Yeah… the others come from everywhere through the country… Kyle is from San Francisco… Alex from Denver… Isabel and Maria are from Chicago but they didn't know each other until last year… and well … then we have your future 'lover'… I think he's from Farmington but he moved to Los Angeles at a young age, so I'm not sure he even remembers coming from the region himself." Constance informed her laughing and not bothering to explain her who was who. She would have time to meet everyone in due time anyway and she didn't want to stress the girl with the details of everyone's surnames.

Liz frowned slightly when she heard her calling Maxwell her future 'lover', but she didn't complain. Instead she just finally plucked up the courage to ask: "So… how is Maxwell?"

"Maxwell?" Constance repeated a little surprised.
No one called him Maxwell here, at least no one his age. Usually he went by 'Max' or even 'Evans', but definitely not 'MAXWELL', since Max didn't really like his name.

"Well… how is Sexyboy?… hmmm… that's a real good question!" she continued when she saw Liz looking at her expectantly.

"Sexyboy?" Liz giggled at the name. Did they really call him Sexyboy? Oh girl, this guy should really be something after all.

"Well yeah… every girl calls him Sexyboy around here… it's his nickname…we just thought it fitted him!" Constance elaborated for her before laughing.

"So…?" Liz tried again suddenly wanting to know more about the man who could claim such a nickname.

"Well… 'Maxwell'… is just Maxwell… I mean… he's not like anyone else, that's for sure… I guess you would have to discover him by yourself since I don't really know how to describe him and do him justice… He's really special you know! … He's different……Are you nervous to meet him? " she finally asked instead of really giving Liz any useful information.

But what could she say? He's an handsome and terribly sexy guy, he's the nicest and gentlest guy I have ever known, the best and most charming actor, too. He has to be every girl's dream … though maybe a little stupid since he is dating Tessa Harding.
No, she preferred letting Elizabeth find by herself and make her own opinion. She didn't want to influence her in any way, or maybe give her a wrong impression.

"Yes… I guess I am… I mean… I don't know him yet… but you should see my friends… they are always talking about him… they go absolutely crazy when they hear his name… girl… I swear they are totally obsessed with him… and they can't stop telling me how lucky I am… but what if it just doesn’t work between us… I mean… he's such a star… and well… I'm nothing compared to him... What if he doesn't like to work with a novice… what if I'm not good enough?" Liz said in one breath, glad to be able to speak with someone who knew him and maybe could help her.

"WOW… that was some speech!" Constance laughed. So much insecurities for nothing. "Look… I can say that I know our Sexyboy quite well… and I can tell you that he's just not the type… he's really a great guy… you don't have to worry about him liking you… he likes everyone…or at least he tries… this guy has to have the biggest heart ever!… and he will know how to put you at ease… he's the best when it comes to reassure people… you two will go along just fine!" she said confidently. She didn't know this girl, but sensing her fears she couldn't help but want to comfort and protect her. Quite strange since she had to be only 5 or 6 years younger.

Just when Liz was going to thank her for her nice words, she heard the door being opened and she looked gaping at the tall and sculptural blonde woman that had just entered the room.
Wow, this one must be Maxwell's girlfriend, she thought. Tessa something she remembered from what Angie and Tiphany had said. Well she seemed to be nice if you asked her.

"Hey, Iz… how was your break?" Constance immediately said when she saw Isabel Ramirez.

Using their one week break, Isabel had decided to go and spend a few days to Mexico to save what was left of her fragile marriage before it was too late. Jesse, her husband had never coped really well with his wife's status, but she had already been acting when they had met and married so he had thought -or had he just 'hoped'- that with time he would get use to it and it would get easier, but actually it was just the opposite. They had always had their problems, but lately they seemed to become impossible to solve.

"Great!" Isabel responded without elaborating more.
Right now she would rather concentrate on the little brunette Constance was making up than on her own problems.

What could she say anyway? 'Oh it was just great, we bickered one day out of two and I think that the only option left is filling for a divorce'. No, she didn't need anyone to know just yet. It was still too fresh on her mind.

For once she was really glad to return to work, though it would be a light day because of the new actress's arrival, but at least it would keep her occupied.
Eyeing Liz she extended her hand and greeted her warmly.

"Hi… I'm Isabel Ramirez… you must be the new actress, right!" she said with a large smile.

"Yes… hi, Elizabeth Parker… I'm pleased to meet you Isabel!" Liz answered just as nicely. Nope, she was not Maxwell's girlfriend.

"Me, too… so… how are you liking it here so far?" Isabel then asked, eager to make some conversation with her and learn more about the one who had succeeded to make Tessa Harding freak without even meeting her.

"Well… I didn't really have time to visit yet… but so far… yeah I like it!" Liz said before looking up at Constance who was still working on her and gave her a sincere smile. She was feeling better right now, though she knew that once the moment arrived, she would start to have jitters again.

"I hope Constance didn't give you a hard time! … I swear she can talk non stop… must be some French gene or something!" she told her playfully while she took a seat and started to look through the large amount of make-up that was in front of her.

She had been a model before starting acting, therefore she was used to this and had acquired quite a technique herself through the years. Of course she wasn't supposed to do it on her own since the make-up artists where there for that, but Constance didn't mind so she didn't tell anyone. Isabel guessed that she was just glad she had one less person to take care of and that that was just fine with her.

"Oh come on… please Iz…." Constance started feigning to be outraged, but Liz didn't miss the smile that was slowly creeping on her lips. " Give me a break… wait until she meets Maria… the poor girl won't know what hits her… I'm an amateur compared to her!"

"Maria?" Liz looked at her, the question evident in her eyes. Wasn't she the one she was supposed to live with?

"Yeah, Maria Deluca… she's one of the main actresses… she's something, believe me." Isabel told her laughing.

"I guess I will know soon. I'm sharing a bungalow with her." Liz informed them.

"Yeah… I know…you're lucky… you could have ended up with 'my' roommate." Isabel continued remembering that now she had to share her own bungalow with Tessa. Before she was with Maria and Tessa was all alone -wonder why, huh?- but with Elizabeth's arrival, she had to change since Cal hadn't thought it would be very wise to leave Elizabeth with her, knowing that Tessa hadn't taken very well her coming. But then at least she had been able to move to a larger bungalow so she wouldn't have to come across and see Tessa if she didn't want to.

She saw the puzzled look on Elizabeth's face and decided to talk about something else.

"So… what were you talking about before I came in?"

"Oh… I was just telling Elizabeth that she didn't 't have to worry about Sexyboy and that everything would go fine with him!" Constance explained.

"You're nervous?" Isabel asked her.

Why was everyone asking her that? Was it so obvious?

"Yeah… it's not easy… since I couldn't even see him before!" Liz admitted again to this new stranger.

"Oh, yes… I know… I heard about that! … better get use to those kind of things… Cal is quite the original!" she answered and rolled her eyes.

She couldn't remember or count how many times she had thought herself that Cal was really a weird man. But besides that he was quite cool, and she loved the fact that he wasn't too bossy.

He was nothing like the director she had worked with on her previous show. Cal rarely imposed anything on them but to know their text, well except when it was Max who was concerned, since he always seemed to find a better way to say it without changing or losing the sense. But then when it comes to act, move, interpret or develop their character, they were free to do as they felt it and that was really something she appreciated.

"You can say that!" Liz confirmed.
Never before had she been asked to do something so strange. Whenever she had acted before, even if she hadn't had big parts, she had been introduced to whoever she was supposed to face and act with before anything else, and before they had started.

"Well… Constance is right anyway… our lil' Sexyboy is really nice… I'm sure he is going to help you a lot… He may be young and famous… but he's really mature and he knows how to keep his feet on the ground… he's not the kind to belittle you or… think too much of himself… he won't judge you…just be yourself with him and everything will be great!" Isabel repeated and more or less corroborated what Constance had already told her.

"I really hope so!" Liz softly said, before looking at her reflection in the mirror and smiling. She was really liking what she was seeing. Constance really knew her job and how to enhance the depth of her eyes.

"Do you like?… I think the cream and golden brown eye-shadows are what is the best for your eyes… but if you don't like it we can try something else." Constance gave her the choice, even if that would mean that she would have to do everything again.

"No, no… I like it… really… it's hard to believe this is me!" Liz confessed.
Yes, when she looked at herself it was like seeing someone else or seeing herself for the first time.

"Someone else I know won't believe his eyes either!" Isabel whispered while catching Liz's eyes and smiling at her.

"How… how is he with girls usually?… I mean… is he very… selective? …what if he thinks I'm repulsive and… and doesn't want to work with me?" After a short pause, Liz almost inaudibly voiced what frightened her the more.

She didn't know why she cared so much about what he could think about her, but she was just so unsure of herself. At least physically: even if she had heard many people tell her she was beautiful, she just didn't think so herself.

The problem now was that she really wanted to keep this job, and even if she knew that in the end Maxwell wasn't the one to decide, she was also lucid enough to know that he could somehow influence Cal Langley's decision to keep her in the series or not if he wasn't satisfied with her. After all he was the one who would have to deal with her the more frequently.

Hesitantly she looked up at Isabel through the mirror in front of her and saw how her mouth twisted in a wide grin. Well obviously she had to have said something funny.

"You're kidding me, right?!" Isabel asked before laughing openly, soon followed by Constance. Was this girl for real? He was dating Tessa Harding for heaven's sake, that was the best proof he wasn't 'selective'!
At all.

"I don't think it's going to be a problem… not a problem at all!… Look at you… and look at what you're wearing… Believe me… it wouldn't surprise me if Maxwell Evans's eyes popped out of his head when he sees you… he's going to have a heart attack… it's a shame I won't be in front of him when this happens!" she finished showing Liz all of her pearly teeth.
Liz was a beautiful girl and even if she didn't know her yet, she couldn't help but think that she definitely corresponded more to Max's ideal than Tessa could ever do.

Liz suddenly felt very much embarrassed and couldn't help but blush at her comment. Now if she could only believe that and be so confident herself.

"I bet that, too… you're lucky Tessa isn't here today or she would surely throw a fit… but I suspect Cal did it on purpose since he most definitely didn't want her to be able to interrupt or disturb you…… she doesn't have any scene scheduled today… so normally she won't appear anywhere near here… not that I'm complaining!" Constance put on her two cents.

"Tessa?…… she's his girlfriend, right?" Liz questioned not really knowing why she even bothered. It wasn't like she was that interested in his love life anyway.

"Yeah… more like the millstone around his neck… but yes… I guess she is!" Isabel answered, not even bothering to hide her disapproval or her disgust.

Liz was really starting to wonder if there was anyone here, besides Maxwell himself obviously, who really liked the girl.

"Okay… Elizabeth… since we have both finished here… what do you say if I show you to the hairdresser." Isabel finally said after a moment and concluding the three girls' discussion there.

"Sounds great… I'm not sure I'll remember the way all by myself!" Liz replied before sitting up.

"So Frenchie… later?" Isabel turned to Constance smiling.

"Yeah… we could have dinner tonight all together… what do you think Elizabeth?… It would give us some time to know you better!" Constance suggested.
Yep, she really liked the girl already and she hoped they could spend some more time all together.

"I would like that… very much… and thank you… for the make-up… and for everything else!" Liz told her sincerely, glad that she had been so nice with her.

"You're welcome!"

"Let's go then… See you!" Isabel said before linking her arm with Liz, which surprised her to say the least, and they both excited the room.

After a little less than half an hour in the hairdressing room, Isabel ended up with some light curls added to her blonde hair, and Liz with some oil lightly applied to add even more brilliance to her long and silky one. Like Cal had recommended it she had let her hair completely loose, the layered strands in the front framing her face.
All the while they had continued to talk and Liz was wondering if everyone here was this nice, well apart from the secretary.

The hairdresser, Marilynn Brooks, hadn't stopped complimenting her on her hair and she had told her she hoped she would see her soon, and that she was welcome here whether it was to arrange her hairdo or just for some talk. Liz had of course gladly accepted the invitation.

Isabel had also informed her about who she could talk to and who she should rather avoid. Guess who was at the head of her black list. Tessa Harding of course. From what Liz had gathered, Tessa would certainly do everything in her power to make her feel unwanted, destabilize her and make her leave.

She had also learnt that Kyle was a randy devil and that he would certainly try to hit on her as soon as he would see her, but if she was firm with him and made immediately clear that she wasn't interested, it wouldn't be a problem. Normally.

Maria, according to Isabel, was really someone you could rely on. She was easy to live with, though she spoke a lot, but she was a good listener, too, and Isabel had no doubt they would be best friends by the end of the week.

Mike, one of the other actors, could seem a little grouchy at first sight and not really the talkative type and therefore left you with a bad impression, but when you knew him he was really great. Apparently once you had won his trust, you had a friend for life.

And Alex… well, whenever Isabel talked about Alex, Liz couldn't help but wonder if at some point there hadn't been something between the two of them. There was just something in her eyes when she talked about him that wasn't there when she talked about the others. Well maybe except with Maxwell, but from what Liz had understood, Isabel considered Maxwell like a little brother she had to protect and take care of.

So, Alex was obviously the clown of the band, and Liz just knew that at least with him she would get along just fine. She had always loved a guy who knew how to make her laugh and she felt really at ease with them.

"Okay, Elizabeth… I think it's time I let you join the boss!" Isabel said, having accompanied Liz as far as she could go and showing her where Cal was waiting for her.

"Yes… I guess I can't slip away now, huh? " Liz answered smiling.

"Guess not! … don't worry… you'll do great… I see you in a few minutes… dear future sister-in-law!" Isabel teased, referring to Liz's role and her own. In the series Isabel Ramirez was Deborah, Matthew's twin sister.

"Yeah… see you later… oh, and Isabel… you can call me Liz!" she informed her, realizing that she probably should have said that earlier.

"Okay, Liz… but only if you call me Iz or Isa!" Isabel answered her.

"Deal!"

After that they just smiled at each other and finally went their separate ways.

'Only ten minutes late, not that bad', Max thought when he finally reached the security barrier at the entrance of the studio complex. Having tried to forget his conversation with his sister, he was glad he would finally be able to concentrate on something else. Three hours on the road really gave you time to explore all of your thoughts, and unfortunately they all turned around the same subject.

After greeting the guard, he drove the few meters to his usual and attributed parking space but stopped when he saw that a car was already parked there.
B-0708-MC.
Where the hell was this car coming from and who did it belong to? The license plate wasn't even American.

Wait, hadn't someone said that the new actress was from Spain, or at least had been living there? Well obviously she, or her parents, had to have some money if she could afford to have her car come all the way from there. And what a car it was.

Max looked attentively at the gray and coupé Seat Leon and couldn't help wondering how much such a car could cost? Not that he had ever seen one before anyway.
Well that didn't change the fact that her car was on his spot and that it had nothing to do there. It wasn't as if it couldn't be clearly seen that this space was reserved.

Way to start their relationship, he thought.

One thing Max hated was to have his little habits disrupted or his world turned upside down, and this girl hadn't been here for one day that she was already changing things.

Deciding to forget about the incident for now, he drove further and parked as soon as he spotted the first, 'and not reserved', parking space. He then got out of his own car and immediately took the direction of all the 'arrangements' building. He didn't have time to go and greet everyone just now, but he would see everyone soon anyway, and well it wasn't as if they didn't know him.

Chapter four

Max entered the make-up room and as soon as he spotted his friend, he smiled.
Constance was one of the very few who didn't treat him like a star or some supposed self-absorbed actor like so many others did. She was true, honest and always spoke her mind no matter what or who she was talking to. Most importantly she always treated him like an equal, between them there was no 'who had the best job' or 'who was more important' and he liked that. Everything was always so simple with her.

Hadn't she been a little older than him and almost married, he might have been able to consider a more personal relationship with her at some point, or at least he had thought about that at the beginning -she knew and understood him so well, more than anyone before- but then of course he also knew that sooner or later it would have become a little awkward between them. The more time he spent with her, the more Max was sure they were meant to be friends, great friends, but not lovers, and taking the plunge would only have destroyed the precious and special relationship they currently had. All in , they both knew it was for the best. A boyfriend and his girlfriend, or even lovers could split up and go separate ways after a certain time, that was how things often worked, but a friendship like the one they shared was meant to last.

Looking at her taking care of one of the extras' make-up, he realized once more that Constance had somehow managed to become like a second sister to him. A sister who had been there when his real one hadn't been, always listening attentively to him, and always giving him good advice when he needed them, and for that he would always be grateful.

Finally acknowledging his presence through the mirror Constance turned around and flashed him a bright smile before greeting him.

"Hey, Max… it's about time … thought we wouldn't see you today!" she teased, not resisting making fun once more of his bad habit of being almost always late.

"Yeah… like I would miss a first day of work! … Hey yourself!" he replied before crossing the distance between them and moving to kiss her on the cheek.

"No, no, no… don't kiss me Sexyboy… I don't know where your mouth has been wandering!!" she said laughing and slightly pushing him away.

Of course in reality she didn't mind at all since Max was always very expressive with her, always taking her in his arms when he saw her after a long time and always teasing her, which had really surprised many people at first and set them talking since most of them saw him like a very shy guy and didn't understand how he could be so different with her.

But there was one thing Constance didn't like about Max and she couldn't help but remind him that once in a while: Max's obvious lack of judgment when it came to girls. Even a little more than 6 months later, she still couldn't understand what was Max doing with Tessa Harding. He deserved so much more than that selfish, self-centered and narcissistic bimbo.

"She's not here!… Haven't seen her in a week… My lips are as smooth and soft as those of a baby!… " he said before hugging her and peppering her face with little kisses as if to prove his point.
He knew Constance didn't really approve of his relationship with Tessa, actually not so many people approved of it, but strangely each time Constance mentioned it, directly or not, he found himself laughing with her and unable to hold it against her.

"Come on… just a little kiss, ma chérie! (my darling)" he added, using the little endearment he always used with her.
He had always loved French but ever since meeting her, his fondness for that language had only grown stronger and every once in a while he would even try to have a whole conversation in French with her. It was difficult at first since his knowledge of the language mostly consisted on the basis, but after two years or so working with her, he had gained a lot in fluency. At least more than he had before.

"I'm not sure they are as innocent as those of a baby though!" Constance answered laughing before returning his hug.
She laughed even more when she saw the face of the young woman she was supposed to make up. Say she was shocked had to be a clear understatement.
Well, who wouldn't have been, seeing the Maxwell Evans showing such a public display of affection to a simple make-up artist.

"So did you miss me mon Coeur?" she then asked him still in his arms.

"You bet!" Max answered before finally letting go of her.

"How is Ana?" she immediately asked him before resuming her work.
One week before his sister's arrival Max had driven her totally nuts. He was counting the days and couldn't stop talking about her. Constance knew what she meant to him and she was really glad that she had finally come back. She didn't think Max would have been able to stay without his dear sister one month or even just a few days more.

"She's fine!… Will take some time to get use to a sedentary life again I guess, but she's fine." Max said at the same time that he pulled a chair and sat to wait for his turn.
There were several make-up artists on the set, but Max simply refused to let anyone else take care of him. Of all the job aspects, that was the part he hated the more, maybe even the only part he hated in fact, so if he couldn't avoid it, at least he could let someone he enjoyed the company do it. Even if that meant that sometimes he had to wait for Constance to finish with someone else first like it was the case right now.

"Okay, your turn now!" Constance finally said after a moment and moved to be in front of him. "Don't squirm Max… god, you would think after all this time you'd get use to this!" she then added when she saw him making his all too familiar face.

She worked silently during a few minutes before deciding that some conversation would maybe help him relax some more. Each and every time she had to make him up, she couldn't help but wonder how he had to react when he was on a dentist's chair. Surely this couldn't be worse. But every time she reminded him of that, she always received the same answer. He was a guy and a guy shouldn't go through 'make-up base' and 'stuff' like that. That was totally disgusting, and he thanked God he had inherited the right chromosomes.

"You know… you just missed the new love of your life!" she suddenly told him with a large smile.

"What?" Max said confused. What was she talking about?

"Elizabeth… you're new partner… she was there not fifteen minutes before you arrived." she elaborated for him.

"Oh!" he just said once he understood what she had meant.

Yeah Elizabeth… his new partner. Matthew's soul mate… not his.
Well Helena was Matthew's love. Elizabeth was just some girl he would have to fake being in love with. Not that he couldn't do that. He was an actor after all but what bothered him more was the fact that he absolutely didn't know yet what she looked like, how she was. Obviously a little blind if she hadn't seen the Reserved sign on his parking place and his name just beneath, he remembered.

But besides that, what if there was no chemistry at all between them? What if she was another bitchy actress like he had met so many before and they just didn't get along? What if they just ended up hating each other and it showed on the screen?

He might be a good actor but he knew that without any chemistry between the two of them there was no way the show would work, and the public would certainly immediately feel it if they couldn't be in the same vicinity or hated each other. One way or another it would be reflected in their performances.

"How is she?" he suddenly asked his friend, knowing that she was pretty good at judging people.

"She's nice… she seems to be a great girl… I didn't really talk that much with her… but so far… I like her!" she answered truthfully.

"And…" he started hesitantly."… physically?… how is she ?… what does she look like?"

"I would say… you won't know what hits you!" she told , her eyes twinkling with mischief.

"That bad, huh? " he said smiling before trying to learn more. "Seriously… how does she look… tall,… short… is she blonde… "

"Brunette… "she cut him off. "Why are you so eager to know now?… you're going to see her in less than half an hour." she then questioned him.

"I know… it's just…" he trailed off, not really knowing why he suddenly couldn't wait to know her.

"My, my… are we nervous Mister Evans?" she teased before he could finish his sentence.

"NO… hmm… yes…argh… I don't know!" he admitted. "…I… It's just so strange to not know with whom I'm going to work… know what I mean?… I'm supposed to be madly in love with a girl I've never seen in my life before… usually when I'm going to work … so closely… with someone I like to know her a little more first."

"I don't know if it's going to help… but she's just as nervous as you are… maybe even more!" she said in an attempt to reassure him.
She knew the situation was rather odd, but since Cal Langley had wanted it this way, who was she to say anything. " She even wondered if you weren't going to find her repulsive." she added with a knowing smile.
Like that would happen. Constance wouldn't be surprised if it was just the opposite actually

"Am I?" Max questioned not sure if that was a good or a bad thing.

"Max…" Constance sighed before finally conceding. "She IS really beautiful… there's no way you're going to find her repulsive… and believe me… I know you!… and like I told her… you two are going to get along just fine… you don't have to worry… she's sweet… and she seems to be a very clever girl… everything is going to be just fine…. Feel better now?"

"I guess… yeah!" he replied understanding that she wouldn't say more about the subject.
Beautiful, huh? Could she really be that beautiful? What if she was too beautiful? What if she was so beautiful that...?
No, better not go there.

"Better bring this nice butt of yours on the set now… you're all done!" he suddenly heard Constance telling him and pulling him out of his thoughts.

"Yeah… thanks… I guess I'll see you later?" he asked while he was sitting up.

"You bet Sexyboy!" she replied with a wink before adding. " Hmm, Max… be nice with her… all this is pretty new for her… she doesn’t have your experience. "

"Yeah… don't worry… you know me!" he said with a bright smile.

"Yes… and that's what I'm afraid of! " she said laughing. " Don’t go turning her world upside down… heartbreaker." She finished before kissing his cheek.

"Constance!" he warned, knowing where this was leading.
No matter how many times he denied it, she just loved insinuating he was a lady-killer.

"Well, maybe this time it's going to be the other way around… wait until you see her… oh no… better… wait until Tessa sees her… she's gonna flip... I so have to be there when this happens." she said giggling.

Yep, Tessa seeing the one who would be spending so much time with her precious boyfriend would certainly be worth the sight. There was no way she wouldn't throw a fit.

Everyone knew of Tessa's tendency to be over possessive and very, VERY, jealous. And everyone still remembered the scene she had made when they had all been told that a new actress was going to be hired to be Max's 'love partner'. The poor girl couldn't understand why her character couldn't be that someone and it had taken like forever to calm her down. That and Cal's threat to get rid of her character definitely if she didn't stop her moaning.

"Tessa is not like that!" Max tried to defend his girlfriend even though he knew firsthand how she could be sometimes. " And anyway… she knows it's just going to be an act!"

"If you say so!" Constance answered with a smirk. Max was obviously the only one who didn't see how 'deranged' Tessa could be sometimes. "Now, go, go… I'm sure everyone is already waiting for you."

"Yeah… bye… see you later… chérie!" he finally said grinning before giving her a quick peck on the forehead and heading to the door.

"Come back soon SexyLoverBoy" she threw back with some exaggeration just before he left.

* * * * * * *

Liz paced nervously in front of the car she was supposed to drive in a few minutes, desperately trying to bring her pulse back to normal.
Had she found herself in a different situation she certainly would have taken the time to admire the red convertible Mustang that was supposed to be her own car, but ever since Cal had told her her first scene would be the next to be shot, she couldn't control her nerves or think about anything else.

She knew well what that meant. Once this scene would be over, she would have to face the rest of the crew. She would have to face Maxwell Evans, and the mere thought of this first encounter scared her out of her mind.

What if something went wrong? What if he was disgusted with her appearance and refused to work with her or asked for her to be replaced?

From everything she had heard about him she knew that logically she would find him attractive, but what if the feeling wasn't mutual?

Breathing slowly she tried to remember everything Constance and Isabel had told her about him. They both affirmed that Maxwell was a great guy and that knowing him he would do his best to put her at ease. She just hoped that he really was what everyone thought he was, otherwise she knew she would just lose it. And she wasn't sure that having a nervous breakdown on her first day at work would really make a good impression.

OH GOD, why had she let her father convince her to present herself and audition for the role?

Her father was one of Cal Langley's good friend and when he had heard that Cal was searching for an actress for a new important role in one of his series, preferably someone who wasn't known yet and that didn't know anything about the show, he had immediately thought that this was Liz's chance.

Of course he also knew that if Liz was selected it would mean that she would have to move back to the States, but he couldn't help but think that this was what she needed. A change in life. A way to distance herself from her mother's death. Jeff wasn't selfish enough to deny his unique daughter the opportunity to do what she had always wanted to, and if it helped her to heal her wounds it was even better.

Liz had hesitated at first, thinking that maybe she wasn't ready for such a responsibility yet, but Jeff had said that she would never know if she never tried.
Once she had accepted he had called Cal right away and asked him if he could send him someone he knew to audition. Since he had been auditioning both in the United States and in England it hadn't been too difficult for Liz to attend one, even if to do so she had to fly back to London for some days.

Of course he had left unknown his family tie with Liz, not wanting her to be treated any differently because she was the daughter of one of the director and main scriptwriter's friends.

Once in front of him Liz had given him her mother's surname, auditioned and only when he had told her that she was the one to be given the role, did she tell him she was the daughter of Jeffrey Parker.

But now, with all the pressure, she was really starting to wonder if all this was really made for her.
Did she wish to make a fool out of herself? Definitely not! But that was what was going to happen if she couldn't calm down.

Concentrating again on her text, she tried to forget about everything that could go wrong and got in the car. Now if she could just also forget that she would only have one shot for the scene with the group maybe she would be able to breathe normally again.

Cal had said that Matthew and Helena's first meeting would have to be perfect the first time otherwise they would lose all the surprise effect.
Yeah, easier said than done. And didn't he realize that this only added even more stress to her situation? Obviously he didn't.

"Elizabeth… it's your turn!" one of the assistant told her bringing her back to Earth. "Are you ready?"
'Ready to throw up!' Liz couldn’t help thinking.

"Yeah… Yeah, I am "she answered not sure she could do it in fact.

Actually the first scene wasn't difficult at all. Unless she suddenly and unexpectedly lost the control of the car, the only thing she had to do was drive the car right in front of her where the camera would be, then turn left, park the car and get out.
That was easy. What wouldn't be was the next one.

'Okay, Liz, you can do this!' she thought, trying to give herself a little pep talk. 'And if they don't like you, if HE doesn’t like you, screw them all!' she added, surprising even herself.

"You can start the car now!" she heard someone telling her, just before Cal screamed 'Action'.

Looking straight in front of her she drove the long road that was along her supposed school and went directly to the parking space she had been asked to go.

Getting out of the car, she took her book bag, dropped her hair barrette at her feet like she was supposed to do and squatted down.

She stayed down just long enough to let Cal yell 'cut' and then she turned to him expectantly.

"It's okay!… Perfect… " he said with a smile before seeing the way she was looking at him.
If her face was any indication he could only guess that she was really not sure of herself. Trying to reassure her he couldn't help but add. "You were great Liz… don't worry!… try to relax some more and everything will be all right, okay?"

'Yeah, great' Liz thought somewhat sarcastically. 'like driving a car was that hard… wait until you see me in the next scene… maybe you're going to revise your judgment.'

"Can we continue?" he asked her right away.

"Yes, sure!" she quickly answered, hoping she wouldn't chicken out at the last moment.

"Breathe, and don't worry okay… but remember we only have one shot" he said patting her shoulder.

'Of course like I could forget this… detail!'

"Try to stick to the text but if you forget anything, don't panic… act naturally and follow Evans… he's great… and he knows your text, too… if you make any mistake he will know how to continue… he's quite a pro at this… most of the time he changes his text himself!… not that it thrills me but well…" Cal continued to give her some advice but she was barely registering his words.

"Okay, I follow Evans!" she repeated blindly. 'Follow Maxwell 'The Great Guy' Evans' … wait but she didn't even know who the hell Maxwell was.

Seeing the sudden look of panic on her face Cal couldn't help but laugh. He knew she had never loved his idea and obviously she still didn't.

"Don't worry, he will know who you are and step forward……after that you know what you have to do!… For now… you get back into the car and when I say 'action' you go on again from there…… Also remember that there will be two cameras… one on you… one on Evans and the group… but when you walk to him and join him I want you to concentrate on the one in front of you… forget about the other one, okay!"

"Yes!" she said, remembering all the directives he had given her just before she had started shooting.
'Get back into the car.' 'Get out of the car again, squat again.' 'Walk slowly to the others.' 'Search something in your bag' 'Don't let them see your face immediately'.
At least now she understood why he had insisted she let her hair loose.
For the rest, she was free to decide how she wanted to do it.
Okay, she could do that. She COULD do it.

"So… here we go!…… Go near the car again!" he asked her before adding with a mischievous smile. " And don't cheat… you'll see him soon enough." Reminding her once more that she wasn't supposed to see Maxwell Evans before she would be almost in front of him and they were both filmed.
And with that he was gone.

* * *

Max quickly finished the cherry coke he had taken on his way and directly joined Kyle and Michael on the 'school' set were they were already waiting for their turn.

"Hey guys!" he greeted them since he hadn't seen them yet.

"Hey Max…… thought we would have to go and look for you!… What took you so long man!" Michael asked him while he slapped his friend's back.
Usually, once he had arrived of course, Max was the first one to present himself on the set. He liked to walk while he regulated his breathing and tried to clear his mind of anything but his text. But today they hadn't seen him until the last moment.

"I was talking with Constance!…… I didn't see the time." Max answered vaguely.

Looking to where Cal was standing he tried to see the new actress but with the distance, the flow of extras going right and left to position themselves and Cal's body in front of her, it was impossible for him to see a thing.

Anyway he knew he wouldn't have a clear look of her until she would be only a few meters from him. It could look like a short distance between them on the screen but in reality she would be much more far away.

"Are you sure it's the only reason?" Michael teased, knowing that Max had never approved of Cal's suggestion. It just wasn't the way he liked to work.

"Yeah, sure… what else could it be?" Max replied though he knew that Michael could read him like an open book. That was what best friends were supposed to do, right? And even though Max and Michael hadn't known each other for so long, they had definitely become that.

"So… anyone has seen the new chick yet?" Kyle asked them out of the blue, while he noisily finished his own drink.
Today he didn't give a damn about Max's reasons to be late, today the only thing that interested him was the new comer. The new female comer.
Man how he liked the sound of that.

"Her name is Eliza!" Michael said, not understanding why Kyle could never make an effort and call the girls by their name. With him it was always, 'girl', 'chick', 'bimbo', 'piece of ass', etc.

"Actually it's Elizabeth, Michael… Not Eliza... Well I think!" Max corrected though he tried to act like he wasn't too concerned.
Why was his heart suddenly beating faster and his palms sweating as if his body somehow knew that his life was about to change? This girl couldn't be trouble right? God, he had never felt so nervous before meeting someone, but what was really frightening him was that he couldn't understand why. He liked to control everything, and right now he didn't control a thing.
Yep, definitely scary.

"Whatever… at least I'm able to give her a name… not like someone we know." Michael replied looking directly at Kyle.
So yes, he always had had some difficulties remembering correctly the names, but that didn't mean that he didn't know how to show the girls some respect. And well to be honest, he hadn't really paid attention when they had been told her name. He wasn't the one who would have to work almost 24/7 with her.

"So, does anyone knows what she looks like yet? … I understand why you couldn't see her Max… at least I try… but man I wish I could have seen her before! … It's not like I'm supposed to be the one being hit by Love's Darts" Kyle asked totally ignoring Michael's remark.

"Don't know… Constance saw her but all she said was rather cryptic!" Max answered, remembering what she had told him. 'You won't know what hits you.'
That could mean everything and nothing at the same time. She could be so ugly that he wouldn't know what would hit him. But wait no, she had also said that she WAS really beautiful. But then again, what was a girl's conception of 'beautiful'?

"Guys… Maria… it's your turn… join your spot." Cal's first assistant screamed suddenly, stopping Max in his reflections, and they all moved to place themselves in front of their high school while the extras started moving and walking all around.
Since he wasn't supposed to see Liz at first, Max found himself his back turned to her.

Maria who had been silently listening to the guys' questioning couldn't help but roll her eyes.
Geez, what had she gotten herself into?
She loved them all, she really did, but sometimes she just couldn't stand them. At least Kyle and Michael.

Max was a really nice and sweet guy. And so shy most of the time. At least around girls or women that nearly threw themselves at him. Sometimes it was quite a sight seeing him trying to escape their assaults.

But Kyle was a jerk, well not always but he was most of the time. It was no wonder he couldn't stay with the same girl more than a few days. But who would want to stay with a guy who was always cracking lame, silly or dirty jokes all the time and checking out all the other girls even when he was with one anyway. No wonder his role fitted him so well.

Michael?… well Michael was a different story.
At first Maria had really thought that something could happen between them. They had been pretty close at some point and then he had suddenly distanced himself from her and now most of the time they were fighting over one thing or another or he simply ignored her.

Listening to them she couldn't help wondering why it was so important for them to know what this Elizabeth looked like. Maria's only preoccupation was knowing if they would get along since she was the one who was going to share her bungalow with her. If she was good-looking or not was really not her problem, though she doubted Cal would have chosen anyone but a beautiful girl to be Max's match.

"Okay, let's go guys!" Cal yelled in his megaphone hoping he would have everyone's attention.
Looking at Max he could see how tense he was, and he couldn't help thinking the sooner they finished this scene the better. He knew Max didn't like to be 'left in the dark' and not know what was waiting for him, but he knew he was right.

When he had decided to improve 'Matthew's love life' he had just known that he should do something and choose someone particular to distance the series from all the others that were currently aired.

He wanted someone special, someone exceptional, someone who would 'get the screen on fire', and he knew that choosing Elizabeth Parker had been the best decision he had made in years.

There was just something about her. Something so innocent and at the same time so beautiful and sexy, and when he had first seen her, even before knowing who she really was, he had known that she and Max would make a wonderful couple.
Max might have had his doubts, but Cal was sure that there would be a real alchemy between the two of them and that it would be impossible to miss. The public would just love them as a couple and he knew he needed that to be sure that the series continued to be as, or even more, successful than before her arrival.

He knew that most of the popularity of the show was due to Max and his charisma, and therefore to his numerous female fans. If he didn't want them to suddenly desert the series or even hate it, he couldn't bring some ordinary girl out of nowhere to be Matthew's love and hope they would accept her just like that.
No, he needed someone that would be so in tune with Max that the viewers would have goosebumps and would literally shiver just by looking at them on the screen. He wanted Helena to be like the missing part of Matthew and Max and Elizabeth to be so perfect together that people couldn't help but wonder if they were indeed a couple.

He wanted people to look at Matthew and Helena and envied their so evident love, wanted them to identify with them or fantasize about a love like theirs.

And so he knew it was risky to forbid them from meeting before they had to act together but he was really convinced that the scene would only be all the more realistic, beautiful and special if he could catch their surprise and all the rest of their feelings at meeting the other for the first time on the film.

"Sooo… action!" Cal finally said when he saw that everyone was ready.

The scene was very simple. Helena was going to arrive for her first day at school and immediately be spotted by Anthony 'Tony' Johnson, Glenwood High well known jock, alias Kyle Valenti, and Matthew's best friend, Joshua Stevens, interpreted by Michael Guerin, which naturally would draw Matthew/Max's attention. Matthew would be completely captivated by the new girl until he would finally realize that it was Helena Foster, his long lost childhood best friend.

"So are you ready for Ms Harris's math test?" Maria started as soon as she heard him.
In the show she was Noelia Delamico, unique daughter of a couple of Venezuelan immigrants and future famous singer. Or at least that was her main objective in life: becoming a well known artist.

"Didn't have time to review… but I don't think it's gonna be a problem." Max answered nonchalantly. Math was definitely not a problem for Matthew.

"Not really… I didn't understand the two last chapters!… so…" Michael shrugged and followed in Joshua's so typical distant voice.

"Well at least you have Matt near you!… Do you really think I can count on Pam Troy to help me pass this test?" Maria said rolling her eyes.

"It could be worse … you could have to sit near Tony!" Michael continued looking to Kyle who appeared to not pay any attention to them and was looking behind Max.

"WOW, man, I so want a piece of that!" Kyle suddenly exclaimed, interrupting their discussion and immediately getting into the role after looking first like he was following an arriving car with his eyes and then straight in front of him.
Not that it was that difficult for him anyway. Kyle Valenti was a real womanizer, and proud to be, so making such an inappropriate comment was something that came naturally to him.
The worse was that he didn't even have to really fake it for once he thought.

Seeing this Elizabeth chick for the first time, or better Elizabeth's nice behind, he couldn't help but think 'fresh meat'. Yeah crude, but so true.
Maybe he could actually have some, he thought. Nice body. This could be fun.
He had 'dated' almost every female extra that had joined the series, maybe this one would be as easy to have.

"Nice car!" Michael said, acting like he wasn't really paying attention to the driver.

"Nice ass!" Kyle continued with his text, inwardly thinking 'fuck, yeah, really nice ass.'
He then slightly winced in pain when Maria put too much… feeling… into her character and smacked his head a little harder than she was supposed to.

"You really are a pig Tony, you know that?!" she complained with an obvious disgusted tone.

Max turned around just in time to see Elizabeth moving up from her squatted position and locking the car, and despite himself he couldn't help but actually look at her ass.

'WOW…Can't she wear anything tighter?' he thought while taking in her appearance.
From her position he could see her pants molding her behind and even he could only agree with Kyle/Tony 's comment.

Trying to remember his text, he thanked God he had only three words to say right now and was able to speak without stammering or making a fool out of himself.

"Who is she?" he said, faking to be mesmerized.
Not that much effort was needed on his part anyway. This girl really looked incredible.

When she get up again he quickly looked at her slender legs before being totally captivated by the length of her hair. Like a chocolate waterfall it flowed on her back, almost totally covering it, and Max couldn't help wondering if it was as silky and soft as it looked like and how it would feel if he could run his fingers through her long tresses.

He didn't miss either how due to its length it gave the impression that she wasn't wearing anything beneath. All he could see was her pants, some skin and then her hair.

"Don’t know…" Maria answered. "Didn't your sis say they were waiting for a new girl?"

"Well, maybe I should have joined the Sunshine Committee after all!… Now if we could just see this hot babe's face!" Kyle said before dodging to avoid another one of Maria's slaps.

That was exactly what Max was thinking. If only he could see her face.
She was walking toward them at the same time that she was rummaging through her book bag and the long curtain of her hair falling in front of her made it impossible for him to see her clearly.
Lowering his gaze from her hidden features he gulped when he really paid more attention to the rest of her body.

The first thought that crossed his mind was that she had to be the hottest girl he had ever seen and that there was no doubt he would be in deep trouble if he had to work too close to her. Which was definitely a stupid thought since he already knew that in the following weeks they were supposed to become 'a couple', and he knew what that meant.

Man, he was going to kiss this total knock-out. How was he supposed to survive that?
Maybe he should really start to reconsider his relationship with Tessa after all he suddenly thought, because lately he was finding himself being very much attracted to other women.

Short, delicate, brunette women.

Everything that Tessa wasn't, well except maybe for short. But delicate was definitely not an adjective he had ever thought of using for his actual girlfriend. And she was definitively not a brunette.

He didn't know if she was the one who had chosen that outfit, but damn she really knew how to wear it.

Completely ignoring Kyle and Michael's next prepared comments, he let his eyes travel from her platform shoes to her very low ridding and very tight black jeans and then to her short and tight-fitting cream top, and couldn't help wondering if she had chosen it to enhance her beautiful tan even more.

Like hypnotized by her exposed flat stomach he found himself unable to tear his eyes away from the light but very much appealing brown skin.

Well, now at least he understood why it looked like she was nude from behind. Her top was so short that there were several inches separating its hem from the hem of her pants. No wonder her long mane had covered it.

He next noticed the little diamond that sparkled on her navel and even if he had never really been attracted or interested in body piercing, he surely was now.
Was everything about her just more sexy than on anyone else, he wondered.

'Get a grip Evans', he scolded himself, his behavior strangely reminding him of another hot encounter he had had not so long ago.

The moment of truth, he then thought when he saw her approaching even more and slowly lifting her head up.

But the second she looked up to him and their eyes met, Max's world literally stopped spinning and she stopped breathing.

'LIZ'.

Title: "Matthew's Haven".

Disclaimer: Nope, I still own nothing related to Roswell unfortunately. However the characters of 'Matthew's Haven show' belong to me and my overactive imagination.

Chapter five.a

Liz couldn't breathe, she couldn't think.
The moment she had met those eyes it was as if everything else around her had stopped existing. Like she was all alone with this man in front of her, left alone in a world where only the two of them existed. She had looked up and his gaze had totally captured hers, preventing her from looking anywhere else, from seeing anything beside him.

Just in front of her, standing a few meters away, was the most handsome man she had ever seen and Liz couldn't do less than drink in his sight.
No wonder he could be called 'Sexyboy'. God, this man literally oozed sexiness.

Just seeing how his muscles flexed when he was trying to rearrange his backpack on his shoulder was certainly enough to drive any girl insane, herself included. She even felt a shiver coursing along her spine and she had to bit her bottom lip, refusing to moan aloud at what she saw.

So that was Maxwell Evans, huh? God, Angie and Tiphany had been waaaay under the truth. He was even more gorgeous than they had described him.

Could anything, anyone be sexier than this guy? Liz wondered, taking in his beautiful appearance.

She loved how he filled his dark jeans, or how his gray-blue shirt clung to his body, molding his muscular chest and leaving nothing to the imagination. Even from the distance she could make out his powerful pectoral muscles or his rippling stomach underneath the material and the sight was simply breathtaking.

Yes this guy had a body to die for, and as if it wasn't enough he had the face that went with it. From his strong and well-defined jaw to those dark bangs that came and kissed his forehead, everything screamed perfection. And don't even get her started on his eyes. Even several feet away she could tell that they had to be special. The yet undefined color pierced through her and effected her like nothing had before.

Yet what really attracted her the most was those full lips that seemed to be calling her, begging her to go and claim them. Begging her to come and taste them.

What was wrong with her? Liz couldn't help wondering.
She had never reacted so strongly to anyone before, at least not until recently, but of course that was something she couldn’t afford to think about right now.

Had she caught some bad virus on the plane back or something that suddenly forced her to find too much displaced interest in mysterious dark-haired men and particular part of their anatomy or what?

What disturbed her more however was the fact that those incredible lips looked strangely familiar. Like she had seen them before. Tasted them before.

And for good reason.

Those lips had burned her skin wherever and whenever they had touched her even if it had only been in her dreams. Those lips had loved her and made her his more times than she dared remember.

And as easy as that, realization dawned on her and everything changed.

Instantly adverting her gaze from his, Liz felt panic assailing her at light speed, giving her the impression that she was going to suffocate.

'MAX'.

Oh God, it was Max. The Airport stranger. The man she had, unsuccessfully obviously, forced herself to forget everything about because in the short moment she had seen him, he had succeeded in doing what no one else had succeeded in so long.

He had made her FEEL.

He had stirred in her, emotions, feelings that she hadn't felt in over a year. Emotions and feelings that she had just refused to allow herself to feel again after her mother's death because even if she knew it was stupid somehow, she thought that it was the best way to protect herself. If she didn't feel, that meant that she couldn't be hurt either.
But what was worse was that he had made her feel things that she didn't even know about, and maybe didn't even want to know about. Things she had never experienced before and it scared her.

With Sean, everything was quite simple. She appreciated him, she knew that in some way what she felt for him was some form of love but she also knew that she wasn't totally committed to him and hadn't really invested herself in this relationship. Therefore she knew she wouldn't really suffer if something went wrong or if they suddenly decided to go separated ways, which in her conception of things was what always ended happening sooner or later. It didn't mean that she wouldn't miss him or be sad if it had to happen, when it would happen in fact, because she really cared about him, but she wouldn't be really hurt and she would be able to go on with her life easily.

With someone like Max, everything would be so much more complicated. She already knew that with him it could only be all or nothing. There would be no half-measures and she was well aware that she could lose much more in the end.

What she knew she would be able to feel for him if she just let herself could be really dangerous, because in a relationship with Max her heart would be at stake and she just knew that it would be like losing everything, like losing herself if she had to lose him after having had him. And this realization was all the more scary since this was just not her.

She didn't think 'long' and 'everlasting' relationships. She didn't think 'dreamy ending' and 'happily ever after'. Liz Parker only thought that every relationship in life had to end one way or another. But with someone like Max she knew she couldn't want anything less than FOREVER, she wouldn't sign for anything else and therefore she couldn't afford to take such a risk.

Yes, she had thought about it and more than she dared admit it.

All the week her thoughts had taken her back to this airport, where a fortuitous encounter with a faceless stranger had left her wishing for something she knew she couldn't have. All the week her desire for him, her desire to see him again had come back to haunt her at night and now that they were both here, she didn't know how to react.

Now he had a face, now he had a name and the pull she had felt towards him back then was here again to tempt her and take her to the unknown.

Liz almost cringed at the irony of the situation. Hadn't Tiphany and Angie said that she would be 'just as obsessed with Maxwell Evans as they were, by the end of the day'?
They really didn't know what they were talking about!

Liz had been obsessed with him all the week, she just hadn't known it was him. She had been obsessed to the point to forget that she already had someone in her life. Obsessed to the point to not even care anymore.

She could only thank God, and Cal for his finally brilliant idea, that she hadn't seen him before shooting the scene, otherwise she just knew she would have left running and screaming. Now at least she didn't have any choice but to go with it and act like everything was alright, everything normal and that this beautiful stranger wasn't turning her world, and most importantly her heart, upside down.

But like it wasn't enough to have to deal with that now, there was just something about the way he was looking at her that totally threw her off balance. Like he could see directly and right through her, like he could see everything she was hiding inside.

But could he, really? Did he know how he affected her? Did he know she had been dreaming, fantasizing about him not so long ago? Could he see, feel, know, what she was thinking and feeling right now?

If she had thought she was confused by her reactions to him before, now her mind was totally out of control. She hadn't been able to really avoid thinking about him even when there had been no hope, even when she was sure that it would only be an immense waste of time since she didn't think she would see him ever again, how would she react once she would really talk to him, when she would really know him?

God, she just couldn't do this.

How was she supposed to negate what only he had made her feel, probably only he could make her feel. How could she make her mind think about anything but him? And most importantly, even if she was able to control her mind, would she be able to control her body? Would she be able to control her physical reaction to his presence?

She tried to convince herself that if she didn't think about sheets, bodies, moans and sweat everything would be alright but standing here in front of him now, how could she not remember some of her dreams, and wish for a chance to know what it really felt like? That seemed to be totally impossible.

No, confusion didn't even start to describe what she was feeling.
But little did she know that she wasn't the only one to be experiencing this kind of feelings.

'LIZ'.

God, Liz was here.

Max didn’t know what to do, what to feel, what to think. At that moment it was as if any clear and logical thought had left his mind, leaving him confused beyond belief.

Part of him felt like running to her, taking her in his arms and never, ever letting her go. And part of him felt like a little boy, scared to approach and touch his dream come true, too afraid she would vanish and disappear from in front of him if or once he would dare move.

But God, LIZ. WAS.REALLY. HERE. And what a sight she was.

Yeah well, when part of your spirit decides to take some unexpected vacation and leaves you to fend for yourself, your body takes over, and man if his body was reacting right now.

Hadn't he thought not two minutes before that she had to be the hottest girl he had seen in his life. And that was before he had even realized that the airport beauty and this bomb-on-legs were the same and only person. There was no doubt in what was left of his mind now that this girl had been sent on Earth to tempt him and drive him crazy. And so far she was doing a pretty damn job.

It was no wonder Mini-Max was suddenly having a party all by himself in his boxers. Yes at that moment Max could swear he could feel him moving to this old tune he could now clearly hear in his head, the one that went like 'I like to move it, move it. I like to move it, move it. I like to, oh… move it!'

Maybe he should really try to not think about anything related to her. Definitely in fact.

But looking at her now Max couldn't not remember how it had felt to hold her in his arms even if it had only been in his fantasies or dreams.
The memories were still so vivid and looking, feeling so real in his mind.
No wonder he had spoken in his sleep and Ana had made fun of him. The emotions he had felt then had been so intense that it couldn't be otherwise.

Even now, he could still remember how it had felt to make love to her, how she had met his every thrusts, how she had moaned his name over and over again in unison with his to and fro motions. He could even still feel himself inside her. Moving in and out of her sweet body.

In and out. In and out. In…

Oh f*ck. He shouldn't think about that now. He couldn't think about that now. Not when there were so many people around that could see what was happening to him.

IN. AND. OUT. NOOOO!

Maybe if he just stopped thinking about her all together, maybe if he stopped looking at her, he would forget how good it had felt.

IN. AND. OUT.

Okaay, it wouldn't work. The rest of his stupid brain had obviously lost all the battles against his heated and frustrated body, too, and refused to think about anything besides that. Suddenly it was as if those were the only two words it was able to comprehend but now at least he knew exactly who invited and where this vacation was being organized. DOWN SOUTH.

Desperately trying to make it work again Max tried to concentrate again but irremediably his thoughts kept returning back to the same thing.

IN AND F*-CKING OUT.

Wait!
'In and out' he said?
That was… a movie?… with… with Kevin Kline and Tom Selleck, right?

Males?

That's it! He wasn't interested in males. At all.
So maybe if he thought about that, he wouldn't think so much about the gracious curves of Liz's body - strong males- about her delicate and soft skin -virile males- or about the feel and caress of her hair that would certainly have killed him when he made love to her, had he imagined it was so long. GAY MALES!!

GAYS. GAYS. GAYS.

Gays coming on to him.

Gays trying to get into his pants.

What? Okay, so he had nothing against gays, everyone had the right to choose their own way of living and who they wanted to love in his opinion, but that was just not his thing. That was all.

And that was… so not working.
If even with that he couldn't make it completely pass, then he would just have to wait until he would be all alone and maybe able to relieve himself. But something told him that he would have to do that veeery often from now on.

Would it sound really suspicious if he suddenly left running like a madman to the bathroom?

Nah!

But he couldn't really do that, could he?
And besides, Liz would think that she had scared him or something -hadn't Constance told him that she had wondered if he wouldn't find her repulsive. God, where did this girl live? In a house with no mirrors at all or what?- and well, that was definitively something he didn't want her to think.

So instead he did his best to really concentrate on anything beside the way she affected his body and surprisingly just the fact that he could scare her or made her feel uncomfortable with his reactions was almost enough to control himself again.

Almost. Because he was now really sure that this girl would never stop affecting him.
'Get a grip Evans, and try to breathe normally too' he scolded himself for the second time this day.

Sometimes during his little delirium Liz had continued with her part, stopping people around her to ask them to help her finding her way around 'the school' and Max suddenly wondered if everyone here, every man here was feeling the same euphoria because of her being here, but so far everyone seemed to ignore her and that was something that Max couldn't understand.

How could they not see what a beauty she was? How could they not realize the chance they had to be granted with her presence? How could they be so blind and not be affected like he was?

Was he the only one to see what a blessing she was?
And really she was! She was the light, the sun, of a day that would have been tasteless, dull, normal without her.
And what's so great normal?!

Max didn't want normal anymore. He wanted more.
He wanted Liz.

And with the realization came the memory of a text Cal had given him some days before their break. A text that would be incorporated to this scene later, in voice-over. A text he had read back then, but that was now taking a whole new meaning because even if he hadn't know it then, or known how close to the truth he had been, it was almost as if Cal had read his mind.

Those words could have been his. He could have written them as easily and naturally as he could breathe. Because even if they weren't his, they expressed with a terrific precision what he exactly thought now.

When Cal had asked him to record them he had even wondered how he would be able to make them sound credible, to make it look like all those words were coming from the bottom of his heart, but now he didn't need to question them anymore because now he really felt them with all he had inside.

Now he understood them and with a disconcerting ease, even almost two weeks later he was still able to remember them and restitute them almost perfectly.

And here she is.
Has anything looked more beautiful before?
Surely not.

She's beauty, grace, and magnificence personified.
She's everything I've ever dreamt about, and she's just coming to me.
I'm totally spellbound, there's nothing else I see besides her, nothing else more important than her.

And right now, the only thing I wish is to capture this moment forever.
I don't want to see it ending and I wish I could imprint it in my mind forever.
The indelible testimony of what I felt, what I thought the moment she entered my life again.

And right at this instant I make a promise to myself, now that she came back to me, now that somehow, GOD sent her back to me, I'm not letting her leave me again. EVER.

She's all I want. She's all I need.
And like my heart has been calling to her forever, even if I didn't at first, it recognizes her. Immediately. And right now I know, right now I'm sure. She's the one.
I look at her and I know I never lived before. I never breathed before and my heart has never beaten before.

How could I have done even the simplest things, when she wasn't with me. When I left the best part of me behind me.
With her.

Do you believe in destiny?
I do. NOW.

Yes, now he really believed in destiny.
Otherwise how could it be explained that after moaning over the fact that this beautiful creature was probably living in the same town he was but he had nothing to find her, after thinking that he wouldn't see her ever again and that he had let pass maybe his first and only opportunity to know what love was, and after finally renouncing to search her and thinking that the only thing to do now was to try and forget about her, she was now here, standing in front of him.

She was the girl that had been hired to be his character's soul mate.

How many times had he thought when people were calling her 'the love of his life', that their characters would be in love but she would only be a partner to him, like many others?

How many times had he denied any personal implications with her?

But that was until he had seen her. Because right now, he knew that Elizabeth, Liz, would never be just a partner. She was already more than that and he hadn't even started to really talk to her, to know her. He knew she could take an even biggest part in his life than she already had and that it wouldn't take many efforts on her part or even on his.

Max just knew that Liz could be it.

The ONE. HIS love. HIS soul mate. The one that he had hoped for, but thought he would never find.

Now he just wished that he wasn't too late and that she didn't already have someone else in her life. She hadn't been here long enough to find someone already, had she?
But even if she had, if she was his soul mate, he had to be hers, right? It was logical, wasn't it?

Then he would just have to fight for her. And fight he would, because there would be no way he would let her leave him again or lose her again, even if he had never had her in the first place.

If he could, he would just give up everything he was doing right now, take her to some more private place and talk to her. Tell her how he felt. Even if he was still confused himself and didn't really know exactly what it was he was feeling, or how he could put it into words yet. But he knew he had a few things to take care of or finish first.

Yes now that Liz was here, and even if that didn't mean that he would have any chance with her, he knew that he had to end things with Tessa, and the sooner the better.

Actually he should have done that a long time ago. He should have done it the instant he had realized that he didn't feel anything really close to love for her, but was able to have strong feelings for a perfect stranger, as beautiful as this stranger was.

If he let things go like they were, he wouldn't be honest with himself but most of all he wouldn't be honest with her, and that just couldn't go on any longer. The more he waited, the more he would hurt her in the end and that was definitely not what he wanted.

For a long time he had just hoped that one day he would be able to feel for Tessa what he knew she felt for him, and that had been enough to make him stay with her and convince himself that he was doing the right thing, since he was giving them a chance to work.

Then at some point he had finally ended thinking that maybe he was just not made to love and that he would never be able to feel such way for someone -after all not everyone could say that they had truly and madly been in love with someone at least once in their life- and at that moment he had really believed that as long as he was able to make Tessa happy, it would be enough to make him happy, too.

But in two minutes Liz had proved him wrong and it would just not be fair to continue with Tessa and give her hope or let her wait for him any longer. Not when he now knew that it would never happen.

Ever.

Not with Liz here and not with the way she made him feel.

Yes, he would have to have a long talk with Tessa, however first he had to finish this scene if he didn't want Cal to kill him for ruining the series. But for that he had to move and join the one that with one look had captured his heart, and that was definitely easier said than done.

His eyes permanently remaining locked on her and what she was doing, and his ears barely registering the sound of the others' voices around him, Max took some tentative steps towards her, hoping that his knees wouldn't give out under him. Somehow he didn't think that falling face down at her feet would make a good first impression.

However he looked at her in the distance, still so far away, too far away and he knew he had to do it. Not because his role imposed him to do so, but because now that he was seeing her again, he just couldn't bear the thought to not be even nearer to her.

Cal silently observed Max through the viewfinder of his camera and couldn't help being impressed by Max's awestruck face.

Man if he was good, he thought. He was supposed to look intrigued by her, then surprised to see her here, but actually Max really looked like he was totally fascinated by Elizabeth. Almost like he was walking in auto-pilot and like nothing or no one could stop him from joining her.

If he had had any apprehension or doubts concerning their couple, they had all left him as soon as their eyes had met. But that had been even more clear when he had seen Max slightly wince when some of the extras had knocked Elizabeth about like he had asked them to. He could have sworn that Max was ready to kick some asses just because they had dared touch her. Even he, couldn't tell if he was acting or not. And that was more than what he had wanted. That was perfect, and now he couldn't wait to see them really interacting together.

This would work, yes this would really work, he thought just before turning to see what the others were doing.

Chapter five.b

"What is he doing ?" Kyle said his text sounding slightly upset before calling after Max. " Hey buddy, I saw her first!"

"Shut up Tony, and spare your saliva… look at him … he doesn't even hear you" Maria stopped him from moving behind Max like she was supposed to, but strangely she couldn't help thinking that even if Kyle suddenly started to run after Max or planted himself just in front of him to stand in his way, it wouldn't make any difference. At that particular moment she was sure that Max was really not hearing any of them anymore.

What was happening here? she thought. Had she missed something already?

Once just near Liz, Max felt his heart beating so fast and loud that he was sure the whole state could hear it, all along with Liz.

What would she think? Did she know? Could she feel how nervous she made him?
He, the professional, the actor who was used to pressure and stress was suddenly feeling like a young teenager on a first date in front of her now.

He then saw her nervously arranging her hair and biting her lower lip and he couldn't help but gulp audibly.

That simple and maybe insignificant gesture for others stirred something in him that he couldn't explain. Maybe because he couldn't explain how someone could look so pure and innocent and at the same time so tempting and sexy.

For a second he wondered if she was aware of his presence, she had to of course, but it was as if she refused to look up at him. Maybe she didn't really like what she was seeing after all. Maybe she had recognized him and didn't want to be here with him.

"Hi" Max softly said to draw Liz's attention and take her eyes off the piece of paper she had in hands. They couldn't do all the scene Liz with her eyes constantly downcast and he looking like a puppy dog pleading for some consideration or recognition, right? At least he didn't think so, but when she finally looked up at him, Max literally sucked in his breath and nearly regretted it.

God, she was even more beautiful than he remembered her.

Kevin Kline, Tom Selleck. Kevin Kline, Tom Selleck. Males, Males, MALES, he tried again.

Definitely not working, he quickly realized. But how could any man, or woman for that matter, compete with her?

Like it had been the case at the airport, he couldn't help staring at her and admiring her again.

'Perfection' his mind screamed to him and Max could only approve.

Even the little scar just above her left eyebrow couldn't mare it. Actually he found it kind of… sexy? Well, not that it was difficult anyway, everything about her was just sexy in Max's eyes.

Speaking about eyes. He would have to seriously talk to Constance. She couldn't make Liz up like this and hope that he would be able to remember or say his text correctly.

What had she been thinking? One look at those eyes and he was ready to faint on the spot.

No, that was definitely not good for him.

But who was he kidding anyway, huh? He had wanted to drown himself in her eyes the minute he had looked up at them last week, even if she hadn't been so professionally made up. There was just something about them that called to him, and he couldn't do anything about it.

Max could go on and on like this, about what he liked, what he couldn't resist about her like forever and he had to thank God when her voice reached his ears and was able to pull him out of his reverie.

"Hi" Liz said with a shy smile but smile nonetheless, while inwardly she was just thinking 'oh God, please don't let me faint and make a fool of myself. '

Amber. His eyes looked like pure liquid amber. How was this possible? It couldn't be natural right?

Oh goodness, she needed to concentrate. She needed to focus on anything but him and act naturally, otherwise she wouldn't be able to make it.

God, he was so near now that she could feel his scent filling her nostrils and directly going to titillate all of her senses. She couldn't think anymore and there was no way she would be able to remember her text now. How she was able to keep standing on her two feet and still smile was already a real mystery to her. This guy was totally consuming her and there was nothing, nothing, she could do to stop him.

But the question was, did she really want to?

"Emm, … Excuse me but… do I… do I know you?" Max stammered, and that wasn't only because he was supposed to. Her mere presence could make him forget about everything he had learned during all those years he had been acting. She was simply intoxicating.

"Uh… I guess you do, yeah… hi Matthew. " Liz continued, her smile coming more naturally this time. At least she hoped so. After all she was supposed to be happy to see him again after having waited for so long for this moment to happen. She wasn't supposed to be scared shitless or feel any discomfort.

Unlike 'Matthew', 'Helena' knew she was going to see him again after so long since she knew where he had moved. At least that was what Cal had explained to her. He wanted her to be surprised to see him so soon but she was supposed to recognize him immediately when it would take him a little longer.

If you thought about it, it was quite logical after all. Since they were supposed to have been best friends, it was likely that Matthew would have told Helena where he was moving right? Therefore she couldn't be as surprised to see him as he was.

Thus the fact that at first she had even less understood why she couldn't see Maxwell before! But well, if Cal really wanted it this way!

"How…? …Who are…? " Max started like he was trying to remember who she was or where he had seen her before -yeah like he wouldn't have recognized her anywhere, the question was, did she recognize him? did she remember him?- then, opening his eyes wider he went on. "Wait… F-Foster? … oh God, you-you're Line Foster… OH-MY-GOD… LINE!" he almost screamed before engulfing her in his arms for the briefest instant. Long enough though to inhale her mixed but sweet strawberry and vanilla scent and become totally and already addicted to it.

Despite her nervousness Liz giggled and Max couldn't help thinking that even her giggles were definitely sexy, too.

"Glad to see you remember me, Bell!" she said slightly pulling away from him. And even if she hadn't wanted to or had to, she would have stepped away from him nonetheless because otherwise she was sure she wouldn't have been able to control her reactions to him.

Just being held by him, just being in his arms, even if it was just for a few mere seconds was enough to drive her crazy. She thought she could die right there and then and she would die a happy woman because now she knew how it felt.

She remembered clearly how she had wondered last week how it would feel to be in his arms when she had seen him with his girlfriend and now she knew.

His girlfriend.

Oh god, she had almost forgotten about her.

How could she have been so stupid and almost let herself fantasize about him again.

'Tessa', the top model of the airport, worked here for heaven's sake, that meant that she would have to see her, see them everyday, Liz then realized and she couldn't help feeling sick at the thought.

She remembered all too well what she had felt last week, seeing them so close and obviously in love, how would she react when they would be flaunting their love in her face every freaking day of the week.

How was it possible for her, 'Miss I'm so in control of my emotions', to find herself in such a situation? Something had to have gone really wrong in her life since that day at the airport and somehow despite herself she hadn't been able to stop that phenomenon. And now, now that she was seeing the cause of all her confusion, things could only get worse!

See that was why she didn't want to feel anything for anyone, why she didn't want to become attached again. She would only suffer and end up hurting once more. And Liz really didn't want to suffer again.

Liz caught sight of Max looking at her like he was suddenly wondering what was wrong with her and hoping that her face hadn't betrayed her previous thoughts, she plastered the fakest smile she could muster on it and tried to act as if nothing had happened.

"How… what are you doing here Line? How…I mean, … when? " Max stuttered again, though those were questions he didn't need answers to.

He knew exactly what Liz was doing here and what that meant.

"We moved to Glenwood last week…" Liz explained before being cut off by Max's next reply.

"Last week?… you mean you've been living here for a week now? " Max questioned sounding slightly shocked.

"Yes… I mean… well … I knew I would see you sooner or later… I mean… I knew you were here so… I would have tried to find you and contact you… sooner or later… I just didn't think it would be so soon… Imagine my surprise when I recognized you and saw you here, walking toward me… "

Surely he couldn't realize though how those words were so close to reality, Liz thought. Seeing him here was more a shock than a surprise. Never in her life had she thought that some day she would meet him again, least of all under such circumstances.

Seeing him now when she was working was definitely not something she had expected. But what surprised her even more was that despite everything, despite her emotional state and what she had thought at first, she was still able to go on with her text nonetheless.

Maybe it was just because this was really important to her and she couldn't take the liberty to blow up her chance, but she couldn't deny either that somehow it was also because of him. Despite all her denials, there was just something about him that reassured her and put her at ease. Like he would help her if anything went wrong. Like no matter what happened she could count on him.

But wasn't this what everyone had told her after all?

"Yeah… I can perfectly understand…" Max admitted before stepping back, taking both her hands in his own and opening her arms wide as if to take a better and appreciative look at her. "God… Look at you!… where is the little girl I left behind, huh?"

"Well… I guess she grew up… just like you!" Liz softly said , suddenly feeling very self-conscious with the way he was looking at her again. If she hadn't known he was acting she could have thought that he was really liking what he was seeing.

Yeah, right! Like this could happen.

"Yes but you… Line… You're… stunning… you're amazingly beautiful!" he told her admiringly thinking if only she could see the truth behind his words. If only she could realize how much he meant them. For him, she was the most beautiful woman he had seen in his life and he had really seen a lot. No doubt about that.

"Why… you're not so bad yourself, mister Bell!" Liz teased, letting her eyes roam over his body and unconsciously licking her lips.

No need to say Max nearly had a heart attack and had to stop himself from groaning out loud when he caught the gesture. Man, if he had to see that little pink tongue poking out between those luscious lips again, he wouldn't be able to stop himself from trying to taste it too.

Totally oblivious to Max's own inner turmoil, Liz couldn't help but appreciate his body, too, and think that this man was definitely more, much more than just 'not bad' himself.

"Thank you!" Max replied a huge smile creeping on his lips, hoping that at least part of her admiration wasn't faked.

"So…" they then both said at the same time before laughing together.

"You first!" Max told her still smiling.

God, how he liked the sound of her voice. The sound of her laugh. Everything about her in fact.

"You…… er… You said you would write… but you never did!" Liz said pouting and sounding slightly hurt, like this was the most important thing she could think of at the moment.

Then honestly, if she had been best friends with a guy like Maxwell Evans and then had lost sight of him, she would certainly have been hurt herself if he hadn't kept in touch when he had promised to.

"I know… I'm sorry… but you knew me, this was just… not my thing." Max answered the more sincerely possible, and couldn't help thinking that she was really good.

Looking at her he could almost believe that he had really hurt her somehow. Immediately he felt his heart strangely constricting in his chest at the thought, and he just knew that if he had to hurt Liz someday, it would be just like hurting himself and could only wish that this would never happen.

"Yeah… but it broke my heart!" Liz continued, trying her best to not be affected by Max's reaction and not analyze this flick of real emotion she was sure she had seen clouding his eyes during a brief moment.

"I really am sorry… I guess that means I'll have to try and…" Max started, before reaching and tucking a strand of hair behind her ear like he had seen her do it so many times already. Yes definitely soft and silky, just like he had thought it would be. Then, before he could even stop himself he was caressing her cheek with his thumb and he whispered the rest of his sentence more huskily than he had intended to. "… make up for it then."

Oh Lord, did this sentence sound as suggestive to her ears as it sounded to his, Max wondered.

Then, he would lie if he said he couldn't already imagine all the way he could use to make it up for whatever hurt he might cause to her, involuntarily of course. But maybe he shouldn't go there again if he wanted to finish this scene and not embarrass himself more than he was sure he already had. If anyone here had ever thought he was talented, they were certainly going to review their opinion after his performance of the day. He had actually never felt so totally 'out of his role' or so little concentrated than today .

Liz's breath caught in her throat the instant she felt his fingers brushing her cheek and unconsciously, naturally, her eyes drifted closed. It was the softest touch, but she was sure that if he had made love to her right then, she wouldn't have felt more satisfied.

With a simple touch, with a feather-like caress he was able to touch her core, touch her like no one else had before.

God, why did this have to happen now and with him, Liz lamented.

This was so wrong. Why did the only guy that made her feel really 'alive' again and after so long have to be taken? Why did he have to be an actor? And why did he have to be her partner moreover?

Their story was over before it could even begin, and she couldn't forget about all her principles, about THE rule, not even for him, could she?

But, wait! What was she thinking? There was no story at all between the two of them, she had to remind herself.

NO STORY.

She didn't even know him. And she had a boyfriend while he had a girlfriend as well.

Yes, she had Sean.
Sean. Sean. SEAN, she repeated as to convince herself.

This… whatever it was she was feeling for Max was wrong. SO WRONG.

But then why was it so difficult for her to admit that they couldn't be together?

And why was her head thinking something and her heart telling her something completely different?

"I'm counting on it." Liz finally whispered once she was able to find her voice again.

"It's… good seeing you again Line." Max continued with his text but unable to help himself he took her in his arms again. Only this time he took his time to savor the moment, one hand going to caress her bare back while the other instinctively caressed the length of her hair.

God, it felt right. It felt right in a way that nothing had felt right in his life before, and Max wished he could stay like this with her, forever.

Yeah, definitely right and he couldn't help marveling at how perfectly she fitted him. How he could encircle her completely, his right hand able to go and rest on her right hip, or how she was just of the right height, her head reaching and resting on his shoulder.

Perfection again.

Like she had been made just for him, for his arms and his body, and made just to be held by him only and no one else. Like the two of them were the two pieces of a puzzle that was only complete when they were together like this, and like it had been written somewhere that they belonged together. And when he felt her arms finally coming around his neck and Liz holding him back he could only sigh, so contented he was.

Now if you asked him, the only thing that could top that -okay so maybe there was more than one thing that could top that, but he couldn't be too demanding right now, right?- would be if he could be completely honest with her and tell her how he really felt. Tell her that all he was saying wasn't necessarily faked and part of it was actually really true.

Like right now: it was just a matter of name, because yes, nothing could feel better at this instant than seeing her again and knowing that he would be able to see her almost everyday from now on. Now he just wished he could say Liz and everything would be even more perfect if that was possible.

Yeah right why don't you tell her something like 'hey Liz remember me, the airport freak, the one who nearly drowned you in drool last week.', a little voice in his head told him and immediately he realized how ridiculous his thoughts were . He had seen her what, five minutes in his life until now, she would certainly not believe him if he were to tell her that he had missed her like crazy and hadn't been able to stop thinking about her since then.

"Couldn't have said it better!" Liz answered, her voice hoarse and trembling slightly.

What was it about this guy that made her go to pieces and feel like she was fourteen all over again. She was twenty for heaven's sake, and an actress, she shouldn't be reacting this way, and most of all, she shouldn't let him affect her so much.

But how could she deny any longer that she loved to be held by him, that she felt more secure in his arms than she had felt before in her whole life, and that nothing could feel more right to her and to her heart, even if the reason told her it could only go wrong between them.

Even if he wasn't taken, which of course was the case anyway, two actors just couldn't work together. She had always truly believed that and she couldn't let Maxwell Evans change her mind or make her hope for a different ending. Could she?

Then trying to reason with the unreasonable nonetheless, she tried to convince herself that the fact that he wouldn't be the least interested in her and would only break her heart like she was sure he had already broken those of so many other girls, would be enough to have her stay away from him anyway.

She couldn't and she wouldn't fall for him.
Yeah, try to believe that yourself, her conscience mocked her.

"God, I still can't believe it… how could my little best friend change so much." Max followed, trying to sound a little more cheerful.

There was definitely too much tension in the air right now. Sexual tension, to be precise, at least on his part.

No need to say that things got only worse and all his efforts went right through the window the instant Liz pulled slightly away from him again and his eyes met hers. Were her eyes always this dark or was he suddenly missing something here? he wondered.

Add to this that her next action was totally unexpected and therefore he was absolutely not prepared to it, and yes, there were absolutely no more doubts that he would cream his pants in front of everyone before they finished with the scene.

That, or he would die from a heart attack. He couldn't quite decide which one of the two 'options' would be finally worse. At least if he died, he wouldn't make a fool out of himself any longer, right?

"Well… I guess… some things never change…" Liz whispered at the same time that she let her thumb graze a particular spot above his lips, leaving Max with his breath caught in his throat in the process. "And others do!" she finished while she then let her fingers caress his unshaven cheek.

She didn't know why, but that just seemed to fit with her text. Even if she hadn't had any directives concerning this sentence -in fact it was certainly just a general line, nothing more for Cal- her action had come naturally, of course going against all her good resolutions. But her body, her senses seemed to be in control when he was around her and her mind couldn't do anything to stop them.

Last week when she had seen Max at the airport and her eyes had landed on his oh-so-kissable lips, she couldn't help noticing how cute that little mole he had just above his upper lip was. And of course one week later her opinion was still the same.

Now what was different was that last week he had been closely shaven, when today he was sporting a fine stubble, but damn, if he didn't look even sexier with it. And therefore Liz had been unable to not touch him.

This finally led her to conclude that this guy just couldn't be real. Nope, no one could have such looks and be human. He certainly was the exception to every rule of the Universe she knew but most importantly, he certainly was the exception to every one of hers.

Max as for him instantly thanked God that he didn't have to respond to that but just wait to be interrupted by Kyle and the others, because he just knew that his vocal cords wouldn't function right now.

She had touched him.

She had touched him. And the script didn't tell her she had to.

Though, SHE. HAD. TOUCHED. HIM. Could you believe it? He couldn't.

Man, he swore that he wouldn't wash his face or shave himself for the rest of his life. He would bring back the grunge style all over again if he had to, but he WOULD. NOT. DO. IT ever again.

Now if she could put him in such a state of elation and excitation that he felt like he could suddenly fly or walk on water and that nothing was impossible to him with just one touch, how was he going to react when he would have to kiss her?

And again Max couldn't not wonder how he was going to survive that.

AN:
Come on, I know you have more chapters so get to posting girl. Hope to read more soon
Since Sherrie asked so nicely and I'm supposed to be out of town for a few days, I thought I'd give you another chapter already so you wouldn't have to wait till next week… hope you don't mind

Marteloise, either I'm crazy or you did leave me a feedback on this part :? … don't know but I remember reading something and then poof it wasn't there anymore, guess it was pruned with the rest  … in any case, Thank U

Extingman:
In addition I can't wait for Max to break it off with Tess and for her to see how Max act around Liz.
Err… well the second part is gonna be easy… unless she's blind, she'll definitely see something is up with those two (no pun intended  ) but for the rest… It's gonna get complicated for Max pretty fast… but did you really expect anything less  Thanks too

FSUMSW94, Michelle 17,Natz, Roswellluver, Abbs007, anonymousarfan, Purpleant, thank U all :P

Frenchkiss:
I guess Liz won't feel that way much longer, working with Max, getting to kiss him (even if it's for their show) will get her to change her mind. They're meant to be together. Max has just to dump Tess' skanky ass, ASAP!!!!
LOL… I'm not sure a kiss is going to be necessary for that, but it will surely help lol… but why does everyone want Max to dump Tess… I really don't understand
especially when he's doing the lip licking thingy  and it reminds me of an other mole... let's wait until Liz sees it
Don't remind me girl… I go crazy every time I see him doing that  … as for the rest… don't worry, Liz will have time to discover all his moles… sooner or later  … Thank U, too. :D

Lizzy88:
But what a pleasure it will be when they finally say what they really feel
Definitely… though Max will have to work on that with Liz, she's not exactly going to make it easy for him… but I'm sure he'll find the words

Smac:
Your words really draw your reader into the story, like you're in the scene with them. That's what I love about your writing. It's so detailed.
Thanks so much… I'm glad you say that coz that's one of the things that got me always preoccupied… I'm always wondering if it's not too detailed, precisely… and since I don't want to bore anyone here
Anyway, I'm sure you can't believe your eyes but on this part you'll have to thank Gigo for beta-reading it for me, otherwise you'd have had to wait longer… the girl surely can work fast  … Thank U again Liz

Chapter six.a

"Ahem…." Kyle half said, half coughed, seeing how his two partners seemed to be in a world of their own, and again he couldn't help but envy Max for his evident talent. The guy sure knew how to convey emotions and look credible, but honestly she seemed to be just as talented as he was.

Those two, though Kyle was sure they had never met before, really looked like they had been in love their whole life and like they were the only ones that mattered to them. It was impressive to say the least.

But anyway, he somehow had to pull them out of this state they pretended to be, otherwise they would never finish this scene and Kyle had other plans in mind. One in particular, actually, which was to spend some 'quality' time with this beauty. The sooner they finished, the sooner he could do just that. And man if he was going to make the most of it.

But while Kyle was thinking that the chick was definitely hot, someone else was still almost choking on his own saliva.

How could this have happened and he not see it coming?

Maybe he should really start paying more attention to what people said around him, because if this could happen, anything could!

Man, wait until she saw him, then the situation will really get interesting. At least this could be a great test for her. If she passes this one successfully, she can handle anything and she'll really have her place here, he thought.

Following Kyle, Maria and Michael came to join Max and Liz and go on with the rest of their scene. Later on they would have to shoot the one that Cal called 'the intermediary scene' with the only three of them, the one that would be edited and incorporated to Max and Liz's scene, but for now they had to finish the common one first.

If they could!

Seeing movement behind Max, Liz looked up and froze when she saw the tall guy standing behind the one she assumed to be Kyle and took in the surprised expression on his face, even if she could also tell he was somewhat amused.

She had been so captivated by Max Evans before that she hadn't even taken the time to look behind him to see the other actors and now she could only regret it.

Oh. God. What was he doing here?

Hey, you idiot… he's an actor too, she berated herself inwardly as soon as she realized the stupidity of her question. But she had the right to be stupid… and surprised, right? After all he was definitely the last person she had expected to meet again, especially here of all places.

Talk about it being a small world! What were the chances of her working with someone she knew?

Note for self: kill Angie and Tiphany for not sharing this news with me, she thought, realizing that they had known all along.

Now at least she understood the enigmatic way they had dismissed her questions about the show and the fact that she really didn't know anything about it or about the actors. But she certainly would have felt better and been less nervous and stressed had they told her about that. And then their silence seemed even less fair.

However she would have to wait and deal with them later.

Right then, she had to keep concentrating on what she had to do for the scene and not give it too much thought. She would rather concentrate on what it meant later.

She wasn't really alone here anymore and suddenly all the apprehension she had felt about living here with perfect strangers seemed to leave her and she knew that she would be just fine. The way he was looking at her and trying to smile discreetly but reassuringly told her that everything would be alright and that like always he would be there for her if she needed him.

This feeling was only reinforced by the fact that Max had taken her hand as soon as he had turned around and the others had joined them and hadn't let it go ever since, bringing her some much needed comfort. Though to be honest it didn't stop her from feeling still a little tense, it felt definitely good, that was for sure.

In reality Max hadn't really thought about it, he had just felt her trembling slightly when she had been in his arms before and then really tense up when she had seen the others coming, and realizing that she had to be really nervous being suddenly surrounded by all these people she didn't know, it had only be natural for him to try to help her. And at this moment, holding her hand had seemed to be the best way to do so.

If he could, he would have kept her safely shielded in his arms, protecting her from the world and whatever could stress and scare her, but since he knew it was impossible, he wanted her to understand nonetheless that he was there for her if she needed him and she had no reason to feel any apprehension being here with them or working here.

They all were like a big family and now she would be part of it, too. He liked the sound of that very much, in fact maybe even more than he was ready to admit.

"Part of his family." If only.

Cal observed the couple in front of him with utter absorption and what he felt at that moment was simply indescribable.

He had really hoped for chemistry between the two of them but what he was seeing coming out from Max and Elizabeth went far beyond that. Looking at them together was incredible. They were simply perfect together, their actions seeming to come so naturally, so effortlessly, like they already knew each other, trusted each other. Like they knew exactly how the other was going to act, knew what the other felt.

As for the emotions that seemed to emanate from them, Cal had never seen anything like that before. Looking at them was like seeing two people really falling in love before your very own eyes. It was simply magical.

But what impressed him even more was their obvious closeness. He hadn't expected them to be so daring with one another. After all they didn't know each other so he had really thought that there would be more distance between the two of them, maybe more awkwardness and shyness even, but though it could clearly be seen that they were both rather nervous, the ease with which they both seemed to gravitate toward each other, as if they couldn't help but keep some form of contact, left him completely dumbfounded.

He hadn't given them any particular directions concerning this part of the scene, not because he hadn't wanted to, but rather because he had thought it would be unwelcome since they had never met before. He had thought that asking them to nearly fall into each other's arms like real best friends would have done, would have been a little too much, moreover knowing that he was the one to require they didn't met before, and yet, that was exactly what they had done. Like they had known each other all their life and like they had really missed each other. And strangely, Cal had immediately known that it wouldn't have looked so perfect and natural on the screen had he asked them to, if he had imposed the actions on them.

In fact, even after just this first experience, he was sure that he wouldn't have to impose much on them anyway but rather let them follow their own intuition. He could feel it. They seemed to be so in tune that it wouldn't be necessary, because they just seemed to know, feel, each other's intentions and what they could expect from the other.

He was also sure that Max would never do anything that could make Elizabeth feel uncomfortable, just like she certainly wouldn't. It was clearly written on his features and it showed on his obvious protective reactions to her.

Cal hadn't missed how Max had taken Elizabeth's hand as soon as the rest of the group had joined them and he knew that it wasn't only to fit the role. Knowing Max and his kind nature he had no doubt that he was trying to calm her down by bringing what little comfort he indirectly could considering the situation they were in and Cal was glad to see he could feel this way and want to help her so much.

He really needed them to feel completely at ease around each other, though so far it didn't seem to be a real problem. Helena and Matthew felt obviously comfortable around each other, he would just have to see how Max and Elizabeth would interact once they were no longer in character.

"Matt… who is this beautiful lady?… I don't think we have been introduced!" Kyle started, eyeing Liz from head to toe like she was a tasty meal. One he would definitely like to have a piece of.

"Emm… yeah, well… guys… this is Helena Foster… " Max elucidated, looking at the three others while inwardly he tried to not cringe at Kyle's remark, and then turning to Liz he continued: "Line…… these are my friends… Anthony, Noelia and Joshua."

"Hi Helena!" Michael and Maria greeted together while Kyle continued to eye Liz, licking his lips shamelessly.

"Hi… nice to meet you!" Liz smiled and said though she was feeling rather nervous all over again. In a way this was also her first introduction to the rest of the group, at least those she didn't know yet, and unconsciously she leant in closer to Max.

"Hey…The pleasure is all mine, believe me, Line!… And you can call me Tony…" Kyle went on, his tone quite insinuating.

"Hi Tony… you can call me… Helena… Matthew is actually the only one to call me Line." Liz answered smiling.

Somehow she liked the fact that only Max could call her by her diminutive. Well technically it wasn't hers and it wasn't Max, but she could at least pretend for a few seconds that she shared something with him that no one else had, even if it would sound totally stupid to everyone else if she had to voice her thoughts out loud.

"Well, I'm sure you won't mind if I do it too from now on." Kyle told her and raised an eyebrow suggestively, though he literally stopped dead when he looked up at Max.

Wow, Evans surely knows how to scare you to death, Kyle thought when he saw the black look Max was throwing his way. He was a pretty damn good actor; he wished he could be as good as he was some day.

Max had seen how Kyle was devouring Liz with his eyes, and one thing was for sure, he was certainly not only acting. And even if he was unable to explain his strong reaction to that, Max felt a pang of jealousy assailing him and he had to resist the urge to punch Kyle right on his smirking face.

He knew Kyle very well, and even if they were great friends, Max had never approved of 'his highly developed appetite for women', as he called it himself, and there was no way he would let Liz fall into his clutches and be this womanizer's next meal.

'Once a player, always a player', they say. Well Kyle Valenti would definitively not play with Liz, he would make sure of that.

"I don't think so…" Max said through clenched teeth. " That's my privilege only." He then added, trying to smile to fit into the role.

Matthew was supposed to not appreciate Tony's obvious interest in his 'best friend', not be ready to kill him, though that was exactly how Max was feeling himself at this moment.

"So… I'm pretty sure you're new here Helena… then how do you know each other? …where did you two meet?" Maria asked, clearly working to break the tension in the air.

Tension that was definitely not supposed to be so high, but she could swear that she had seen a flash of pure hatred or at least strong disgust in Max's eyes when he had talked to Kyle, like he was somehow protecting what he thought was his.

Strange, but definitely interesting. Maybe there would be some good action here soon.

"Well… Line… er…. Helena… was our neighbor when I was younger… and my best friend, too… and well… she… just moved here!" Max explained before turning to Liz and looking at her lovingly. A gesture that didn't go unnoticed by Maria either.

Wasn't this guy suddenly putting too much feeling into his role, she wondered.

Max looked completely smitten with the new actress, or had he just improved his skills even more? There was no doubt he was very talented but this was so much more than what she had observed until now, and he didn't seem to have to put any effort into looking at her the way he did.

What couldn't be missed either, she then realized, was the way Max was holding onto the girl's hand and obviously refused to let it go.

"Actually… to be honest… I had the hugest crush on him before he moved, but he simply refused to pay any attention to me!" Liz corrected, going along with her part.

Even closer to reality she thought. There was no way on Earth that this man would pay any attention to her. Not in this lifetime.

And again she had to remind herself that he had a girlfriend anyway. A girlfriend against whom she didn't stand a chance.

What would a guy like him do with a girl like her when he already had one of the most beautiful woman he could wish for in his life?

Max instantly shivered when he felt her leaning into him even more and slightly touching his arm with her free hand.

And the way she was looking at him... God, he was going to pop a vein before the end of the scene if she didn't stop looking at him like that.

For the briefest instant he could have even thought that she was indirectly talking to him, confessing to him what she felt for him and again he found himself daydreaming about all the possibilities, hoping for a relationship with her. Maybe even a future, why not? And all this just by looking at her, by looking into her beautiful eyes.

That was all he needed really, and this time it was only Kyle's, could he say very irritating, voice that kept him from losing himself in their depth again, thing that he would have surely done gladly otherwise.

"Really?… I bet you wish you could kick your own ass now man, huh?" Kyle said amused.

Yeah he could bet that whoever had refused to look at this beauty when she was younger wished he could do that now if he could see her and see what she had become. But, after all, he didn't know her. Maybe she had always been just as beautiful. Who knew?

Not that it mattered to him anyway, he was more than satisfied with what he was seeing right now, and hopefully he would see much more of her very soon. He was sure she had to be even more beautiful with no clothes on.

"Tony…" Max managed to tear his eyes off Liz long enough to look menacingly at Kyle and begin like he was going to give him some warning, just before Isabel and Alex arrived hand in hand to start with their parts, too.

Liz looked at the two newcomers and couldn't help thinking that they looked kind of cute together. Her guess was that this guy had to be Alexander Whitman.

Not because she knew that 'Alex' was supposed to be Isabel's boyfriend in the series, but because of the light she remembered seeing in her eyes each and every time the other actress had talked about him. The same light she could recognize now that they were in front of her, together, holding hands and looking and smiling at each other like a real couple.

Yep, definitely something going on. But was she the only one to notice it?

"Hey guys…" Isabel greeted everyone while eyeing Liz like she was trying to recognize her. " Aren't you supposed to be in class already?" she then asked looking more specifically at 'her brother'. If he really was her brother she would have definitely found strange to see him with a girl she didn't know, especially since they were holding hands.

Strange, she didn't remember that being part of the script.

And was Max even conscious that he was drawing little patterns with his thumb on the back of Liz's hand? Well, it was kind of cute and the girl obviously didn't seem to mind, so who was she to say anything?

"Yeah, yeah,... we were heading there… but Matt was introducing us to your friend." Maria informed her, insisting on the 'your'.

"Our friend?" Isabel answered sounding confused and looking at Liz again.

"Hi Deborah" Liz said, smiling brightly and naturally at the one she already knew would become a great friend.

"How… how do you know my name?" Isabel continued, still acting like she couldn't quite put a name on the girl's face.

At that Max briefly rolled his eyes and made the introductions once more.

"Line, this is Andrew, my dear sister's boyfriend… Andy this is Helena, my childhood… 'best friend' …and …Debbie… I'm sure you remember Line right?"

"Line? … oh Lord… Lena?? Lena Foster?…AAAHHHH! …What are you doing here?? Oh, wait… You… You are the new girl?… god, you are…when did you arrive? … how long have you been here?… when… oh God, I can't believe it!… Lena!" Isabel yelled while letting go of her 'boyfriend's' hand and nearly throwing herself on Liz.

"How many names does this girl have!" Michael mumbled which earned him a glare from Maria.

"What does it matter to you?" she rolled her eyes with exaggeration.

"Hi, Helena… Now… Debbie, calm down or you're going to hyperventilate! Alex joked, slightly making fun of his 'girlfriend' 's antics.

"Hi Andrew!" Liz replied still trying to not laugh at Isabel's euphoric rambling. No doubt the girl surely knew how to look excited.

"Oh Andy… you don't realize… I grew up with this girl!" Isabel continued excitedly. " It's so good to see you again, Lena!"

"It's good to see you too!" Liz answered back, trying to hug Isabel with just as much force despite her awkward position. But only when Isabel voiced what was wrong with it did she really realize what, or rather who the 'problem' was.

"Hmm… you know Matthew… I think you can let go of her hand… it doesn't look like the girl is planning on going anywhere anytime soon." Isabel said and immediately had to bite her lip to stifle her laugh.

Obviously Max hadn't even realized that he was still holding Liz's hand.

So, granted this was not really part of her lines, but knowing Max he would follow the lead easily. If he didn't die from embarrassment before of course. But, hey, this was his fault, and it was just too good for her to miss.

How many times had he indirectly made fun of the others' errors, it was only fair to her to have her turn for once. She knew it wouldn't happen very often.

Suddenly and finally realizing what he had been doing, Max let go of Liz's hand like it had burnt him and mumbled a quick sorry, praying that he wouldn't hear Cal screaming 'cut' and that he wouldn't interrupt the scene because of his 'mistake'.

This had to be a first, Max thought. Never before had he needed to be indirectly reprimanded by anyone during a scene. But strangely, he was sure that with Liz working with them now, with him, that would certainly not be a last.

It had just felt so natural for him to be holding her hand, to feel her fingers intertwined with his, that he hadn't even remembered he was doing it or thought about letting go of her hand so that she could go on with her act.
Yeah it had felt really natural.

Or was it just because his subconscious refused to let her leave him or leave his side for too long that he had been unable to think clearly?

But contrary to what Max could have feared, when Cal should have been upset with his obvious lack of concentration, he only found himself smiling, thinking that finally Elizabeth Parker had to have done quite a number on him to have Maxwell Evans make such an uncharacteristic error.

Title: "Matthew's Haven".

Disclaimer: Nope, I still own nothing related to Roswell unfortunately. However the characters of 'Matthew's Haven show' belong to me and my overactive imagination.

AN: Hi everyone...
I know that you were waiting for a new part and once more I have to thank U for your patience but believe me when I say that there wouldn't have been any way for me to post sooner... Like I had informed you a little over a week I was going to visit a friend, and while my time with her was definitely fun, it ended kind of badly... meaning both of us in a hospital... to make a long story short, we were in a car accident... nothing really bad, but still... we didn't come out unharmed... I have a wrist in a cast and two sprained fingers, and have to wear that neck brace I hate so much for a while again  ... my friend got it worse though, she has a knee luxation and broke her elbow since the shock was on her side... To add to this I'm supposed to leave in a few days to Spain again for my cousin's wedding, so though I'll be posting a new old part of this story today, you'll probably have to wait almost two weeks for more... as well as for BITL if you read that story as well... and I'm sorry for that, but really it's not easy for me to write right now, or even just stay in front of the comp. ( I'm nearing the 20min. just to write this  ) but anyway, I hope you'll understand :?

Enough with my babbling... here goes the next part... Thank U all so much for your wonderful feedbacks, and a special thank U to
Gigo for beta-reading this part... you wouldn't be having anything if it weren't for her!

Chapter six.b

Ignoring Max's embarrassment, Isabel went on like nothing had happened and after having hugged Liz properly, she concentrated on her lines again.

"So you have to tell me everything. When did you move? Where do you live now? Are you here for good or what? I hope you'll stay… there's so much we have to catch up on!"

"I know… and well, I'm here for a while so I guess we'll have all the time we need to do just that… but first I have to go to the registration office… I was looking for it when I saw Matthew." Liz answered Isabel's excited queries before instinctively looking at Max. Then, just when she was finishing her sentence, they all heard the warning bell ring, informing the masses that they "had five minutes to get to their first class".

"Well I can take you there." Isabel went on before seeing Max shaking his head behind Liz and changing directions. "…or maybe not. Okay, look… I was supposed to show you around first period anyway… how about if Matt takes you to the registration office and I meet you there? I have somewhere I need to go first."

"Where do you have…" Alex began before being stopped mid sentence by Isabel's death glare. "Oh yeah… right… it's true… we, uh… have to go… uh, somewhere… yeah!"

"Okaaay… I'll see you there then." Liz replied and rolled her eyes at their antics.

Had she met them in real life and seen them reacting this way then, she would certainly have found Alex totally crazy and Isabel totally… scary.

She could have sworn she had even seen Alex shuddering at the way Isabel had looked at him. Thank God she had met her just before starting and she had seen by herself how nice she could be, otherwise she would have been just as scared herself.

"Yeah… see you soon Lena… we'll talk later then… I can't wait" was Isabel's next answer which was soon followed by a round of 'yeah, see you later' or 'it was nice meeting you' coming from the others and a suggestive 'I hope I will have the opportunity to know you better very soon too… Line' coming from 'Tony', before they all headed inside the school leaving Max and Liz momentarily 'alone' outside. Or at least as alone as they could be with dozens of extras still going left and right around them.

During a few seconds a strange silence engulfed them until Max was finally able to concentrate again and remembered that they were still being filmed. But how could he not lose all his bearings when she was so close to him. Max was sure he could spend the rest of his day just looking at her and forget about everything and anything else as easily as that.

"So…" he started awkwardly. " I guess… er… well… it's this way!"

"If you say so… you're the one who knows!" Liz couldn't help but giggle before she started to walk next to Max, following the path that the others had taken.

Max looked so cute when he seemed to be embarrassed, even if she thought that it was faked this time. It reminded her how cute she had thought he was last week when he had given her her purse back and apologized. Only last week she hadn't been able to see his eyes when he had talked to her. But now she was glad she hadn't.

How would she have reacted if she had seen them then?

They say the eyes are the reflection of all your emotions, the mirror of your soul. If that was true, Maxwell Evans had to have the most beautiful soul ever, because Liz was sure she wouldn't be able to find eyes more beautiful and expressive than his, and somehow she knew that sooner or later those eyes would be her undoing.

The only question now was, how long would she be able to resist them? To resist him?

Little did she know that Max was having the same thoughts. The only difference being that he already knew he couldn't. He had lost this battle before it had even started.

"Right… well… uh…so… I hope that we're going to share some classes… you still love biology, right? … I'm in serious need of a new lab partner." Max continued, trying to sound more confident than he really felt. For a moment he could have sworn he was back in childhood trying to find something intelligent to say to the girl he liked. Pathetic much?

"I seriously doubt that. You don't need anyone, Matt. But, yeah, you know me… always the science geek. " Liz answered self-mockingly.

Personally she found those sentences quite stupid since how could someone really ask someone else about a subject they obviously loved seven years ago when they were like what? ten... and hope they would still have the same passion to the point to be able to make a good partner, huh? Biology then and biology now had to be totally different and just because her character loved biology then it didn't mean that she was still good at it now. Uh, did that make any sense?

But anyway, Cal was the scriptwriter so, whatever floated his boat she thought. And who was she to contradict him anyway? But that didn't mean it had to sound or look logical to her. Even famous scriptwriters could sometimes write complete and total nonsense, couldn't they?

"Line… " Max started before stopping her in her tracks and turning to face her, his voice deep and husky. "You're everything you could want to be… but certainly not a geek, believe me!"

Liz opened her mouth to say her next reply when she found herself suddenly unable to remember what she was supposed to say next. What was her answer to that supposed to be?

Dear Lord, everything had been going so well until then, right? And that couldn't be a good sign.

Of course not! She was Liz Parker after all, and since when didn't Liz Parker ruin everything in the end, huh?

Maybe if she told Cal that it wasn't her fault but Mister Maxwell Evans' for being so damn sexy, he wouldn't fire her. This could work, right?

What? It was true! She was trying to concentrate on anything but him. She really was. But the way he had said 'you're everything you could want to be' and the way he had looked at her while saying it, had just been too much for her and somehow, her brain had messed everything up and had managed to make her hear what she certainly wanted to hear. At this moment, his innocent sentence had somehow been transformed into 'you're everything I could want you to be!' so how was she supposed to remember anything after that, huh? And who could honestly blame her? No one!

She was sure she was going to hear Cal shout to indicate the end of the scene and yell at her for ruining it when Max did something she was really not expecting.

Seeing that she was obviously drawing a blank, Max knew he just had to help her. It was almost the end of their scene and she was doing so well until now, it wouldn't be fair to have to do everything again just because of a simple little mistake.

It wasn't as if it hadn't happened to any of them before -he had been there and done that not so long ago!- but Max knew that it would be different for Liz.

She wasn't used to this and he didn't want her to feel bad, or think she wasn't good enough for the job. Nope, there was no way he would let her doubt herself or regret anything.

They were supposed to have only one try for this scene, or so had been said, but Max also knew that Cal wouldn't be really upset if they had to stop there. They had done more than fine and more than enough till then, moreover considering the length of the scene. No one as inexperienced as Liz had had to do such a scene for a first try and to him she had been more than perfect --granted, he was maybe not the most objective person right now but hey, this was his *cough* professional and absolutely not interested opinion -- and if you asked him she had no reason to not be satisfied with herself, but he was also sure that she would feel more confident if she was able to do it without any major problems almost till the end.

"I…I really missed you Line!" Max stepped closer and whispered, his voice strangely choked with emotion.

Liz was ready to stop and ask for a second chance, sure that Cal wouldn't be satisfied with her and her actuation when she found herself in Max's strong arms again.

At first she didn't know how to react, didn't know what to say or what to do, when she suddenly remembered what Cal had told her just before starting. "If you forget anything, don't panic… act naturally and follow Evans…… If you make any mistake, he would know how to continue…."

And that was what Max was doing.

Giving her a chance to continue. Skipping the part she couldn't remember and going on with the rest of their lines so that they could finish the scene without interruption. Though of course taking her in his arms again wasn't written anywhere on the script. But it wasn't as if she minded anymore anyway. The only problem was that being so close to him had a tendency to distract her and that certainly wouldn't help.

"It's okay!" Max murmured only for her to hear, sensing that she wasn't really at ease yet and hoping that she would follow his lead. And like it was the most natural thing in the world he lightly kissed her bare shoulder, realizing too late what exactly he had done. But when he did, when he realized the consequences such a simple, innocent and sweet act could have, he felt like the biggest idiot of the Universe.

He could only hope, if he was lucky enough, that she had not realized what he had done and that she wouldn't think that he was taking advantage of the situation, or that he was somehow claiming her body like it was already his when in reality he had no right to think so, to do so.

But she had.

How could she have not when this kiss had thrilled her senses like nothing had before and when it was almost enough to make her come apart in his arms?

She had noticed and that was something she wouldn't be able to forget before long.

But once the first shock passed, she couldn't help wondering if he had done it on purpose or not.

Had he really meant, wanted to kiss her there, or had he just been too close to her and therefore his lips had inadvertently come into contact with her bare skin?

Had he meant for everyone to see the gesture, like a proof of Matthew's affection to Helena, or was it something only meant to the two of them, something special he now shared with her?

Was she reading too much into this simple gesture? Maybe he had really kissed her but had just meant to bring her some comfort again! Maybe it had only been an unconscious action and he hadn't even realized he was doing it.

She couldn't tell, but one thing was for sure though: now at least she knew that all her assumptions had been right.

Seconds later she was still feeling that tingling sensation where his lips had connected with her skin, she was still experiencing this jolt of electricity coursing through her entire body, awakening all her nerve endings and making her feel dizzy, just because of the mere caress of his lips. Therefore there were simply no possibilities that she wouldn't die when he would have to really kiss her. Uh-huh! No freaking way.

Maybe she should do some research and see if it was indeed possible to die from a too large amount of sudden pleasure before taking any chance with that.

Because yes, as crazy as it sounded, it was really and already pleasure she had experienced with this simple act and if Max thought he had calmed her down with that, then he was certainly clearly underestimating himself and the power he already had over her.

Liz didn't even recognize her own voice when she finally managed to utter her 'I missed you, too'.

And even if technically she was supposed to add "Matt" to her sentence, Cal would have to content himself with what she could offer, because with the way Max was affecting her, she couldn't trust herself and the chances that her tongue would slip and she would say 'Max' instead of 'Matt' were just too great for her to take any risk. One embarrassment a day was enough for her.

Rather awkwardly Max released the hold he had on her and once again found himself unable to tear his eyes off of her beautiful face. Cupping it in his hands he then slowly let his fingers caress her cheeks, until they finally reached her hair. He tried to control his suddenly erratic breathing but being here with her submerged him with emotions he didn't even know existed or at least didn't think he could feel.

God he really needed to get a hold of himself, otherwise he would do something that was really not planned by anyone here!

However his hands refused to listen to him and they tangled in her hair a little longer, finally pushing it behind her back so that he could really see all of her flawless face. Involuntarily his gaze lingered on her lips a little too long and he found himself leaning toward her. Closing the distance between them, his lips descending on hers.

Just when he was sure that nothing would stop him now though, his mind seemed to take back control just long enough to bombard him with questions.

Questions he couldn't well ignore.

Could he kiss her now? Did she want him to? Would she mind at all? And would Cal mind? After all that was the best way for Matthew to show Helena just how much he had missed her and what she already meant to him, wasn't it? And even if Cal wasn't satisfied, wasn't it worth it?

Even if he blew it and Cal asked them to start everything again, at least he would know what it felt to really kiss her, and that was worth all the anger in the world to him.

Then of course she could also slap him in front of everyone else for being so daring and that wasn't the best way to start a relationship with her.

Maybe he should stick to the script right now then and wait patiently until it would be time for "Matthew" to kiss "Helena" if he couldn't do it before. But honestly he couldn't wait until this moment and he could only hope that Cal had planned to make it happen very soon because he already knew for sure that waiting until then would be pure torture for him.

Reluctantly so, he let his hands that were until then resting on her shoulders drop to his side and he coughed trying to clear his thoughts and find his voice again.

Cal had heard one of the young assistants near him sucking in her breath, then someone else sighing behind him and had naturally turned to look at what was happening. But to say that he wasn't prepared for the sight that awaited him was a clear understatement. Every female around him seemed to be in a kind of trance, totally captivated by what was happening with Max and Elizabeth and the dreamy expression on their faces proved him that more than one at this particular moment wished they could be in Elizabeth's shoes.

At first when he had seen Max leaning over Liz, like he was almost ready to kiss her, he had really thought about stopping him. Stopping them.

Of course he trusted Max and he knew that he usually had good intuitions and knew well what he could do and what he couldn't, but there was no doubt that as far as he was concerned, having Matthew kissing Helena now would be a mistake. It was still too soon. But moreover he hadn't planned it like that and he didn't want it to happen like that.

However Max's reaction and hesitation, then reconsideration had obviously had its effect on the female population of the set and Cal couldn't help thinking that if it could affect some women who were old enough to be Max's mother or at least much older sister, it would definitely thrill all the teenagers who were totally in love with Max and his character and who represented the greatest percentage of the audience. And maybe with Elizabeth's presence now they could also attract more male teenagers to the show, which was something they were definitely lacking so far.

But anyway, it was clear that Max and Elizabeth had hit it off and were able to act totally in tune together. The passion was sizzling all around them even if it was faked, and Cal had no doubt anymore that their couple would set the screen on fire. He really couldn't wait for this first episode to be aired and have the first impressions and reactions of the viewers, even if he could pretty much imagine already what it would be like. They would totally love Max and Liz together.

"Okay… er… maybe we should go now… we don't want you to be late on your first day, right?" Max finally managed to smile and say, then immediately took Liz's hand to lead her towards the doors the others had gone through minutes ago.

He needed to finish this scene and fast. At least once that done, if he did anything stupid or totally uncontrolled it wouldn't jeopardize his career or Liz's for that matter.

"Yeah… I'm sure Deborah is already waiting for me." Liz answered, naturally intertwining her fingers with his again but not even realizing she was doing it.

Of course she tried her best to not think about what had just happened but that was like asking her to stop breathing. For a brief moment she could have sworn that Max was going to kiss her, really kiss her, and when part of her had felt totally elated by the possibility, at the same time it had scared her out of her mind.

It had scared her because at this moment, at this very second, she had known that despite their surrounding, despite what they were doing, and most of all despite all the reasons she had to push him back, she would have let him. Gladly. Worse, she would have kissed him back with all she had inside and Liz was really not ready to admit or face what it meant.

"CUT!" Cal yelled, finally announcing the end of the scene.

The instant the word was pronounced, an awkward silence settled over the set, leaving almost everyone there looking in awe at Max and Liz.

However this didn't last long.

Suddenly, all the assistants, technicians, extras who had witnessed this first encounter between the two of them were heartily applauding at what they had just seen.

Kyle, Michael, Alex, Isabel and Maria who were exciting the building at that exact moment were left totally speechless. Something like this had never happened before, not that they remembered of, or at least not with so many people clapping so furiously and at the same time.

But soon realizing that all this wasn't really directed to them they did the only thing they could think about. The only logical thing. They joined in with just as much enthusiasm.

In fact, the only ones who were totally oblivious and impervious to what was happening around them were precisely those who should have been directly concerned. Those who had obviously totally impressed and charmed the whole set.

The sound of the clapping all around him didn't even reach Max's ears. He couldn't hear anything beside the loud pounding of his heart slamming against his ribcage.

He couldn't see anything beside Liz and the way she was looking at him.

She had looked at him many times and in many ways until now, but this had nothing to do with what had happened until then. This was different and they both knew it.

Because before it was all an act when now it was only the two of them.

Max and Liz.

There was no more pretence. No more false and borrowed identities.

Max felt suddenly all giddy at the thought of having her here with him, at knowing that now he was going to really talk to her but at the same he couldn't not feel a little apprehensive.

"Hey" he whispered hesitantly, his gaze never leaving hers though.

"Hey" she mouthed back, nervously tucking some loose strands of hair behind her ear.

Oh yes, she recognized him. Thank God she recognized him.

Max suddenly felt like running all around, screaming that he was the happiest man in the world because she hadn't forgotten about him, but as rapidly as it had started the euphoria quickly waned.

Of course he had to remind himself that that didn't mean that he had affected her as much as she had affected him. Because maybe she did remember him now, but that didn't mean she had given him any second thoughts during this past week.

However that didn't stop him from quickly forgetting about all his insecurities and questions and from being drowned again in her eyes and shutting off the rest of the world. All he could see was Liz. All he felt was Liz. All he needed was Liz. And all he wanted was Liz. LIZ. LIZ. LIZ.

Oh dear Lord, here he was again.

Would it be like that every time she would be near him from now on?

He would have to work on this overactive imagination of his and most importantly on his sexual frustration. Otherwise he would jump her before the end of the week.

Why did she have to be so damn sexy and attractive, huh?

Totally ignoring what was happening around her, Liz was just as lost as him and as consummated by him than he was by her. In fact, neither of them could see what was happening around them anymore or how everyone was strangely looking at them now.

The applauses had long died but at first no one said a word, no one dared, they just kept staring at them with their mouths slightly open like they were looking at some fascinating show. Truth be told, none of them was blind enough to not realize that something was obviously happening just before their eyes, but how big it was they weren't quite sure yet.

Kyle was thinking that if the way Eliza, or Elizabeth, or whatever her name was, was devouring Evans with her eyes was any indication he could go running totally naked in front of her and singing the national anthem and she would not even glance in his direction.

So much for waiting impatiently for the new girl, huh?

In fact it wouldn't be a problem if it was only one-sided, he could have worked on that, but he would have to be totally stupid to not see that it was obvious that Max had it just as bad. Now he was not acting anymore. Now no one was asking him to look like he had just found the love of his life. This was real. Too real. And if he read the signs correctly, he knew that Max wouldn't let him come anywhere near her. She was already private property.

Near him Maria was just thinking that if those two kept looking at each other the way they were doing it, someone would soon have to go and call the firemen because soon the set would be on fire. Talk about sexual heat in the air, huh?

And again she couldn't help wondering if she had missed something and if Max already knew the new actress.

Maybe they somehow knew each other from before and had gone out a few times together in the past.

Nah, if she had to think along those lines, she would most definitely go for 'lovers'. Yes, maybe those two had been lovers at some point. Well, then the passion was still there. No doubt about that.

But then again this also seemed totally impossible since she was sure she had heard someone say that the new actress was coming from Europe. Max couldn't have met her before then, could he?

Michael was not thinking so far, too shocked he still was to see Liz here, and was only wondering if she had at least seen him and realized he was there.

Duh, she wouldn't even see a herd of buffalos if they suddenly came charging her way, he then thought. All she could see was Maxwell 'Freaking Sexy' Evans. It didn't take a genius to see that.

Isabel as for her, once the first shock passed, could only smile thinking that the obvious attraction they were feeling would maybe finally open Max's eyes and he would finally get rid of Tessa and really experience what true love was. And she could perfectly picture those two falling deeply in love. Oh yes she could.

Max had never looked at anyone like he was looking at Liz just now and Max had never been so fascinated by anyone to the point to forget where he was and what he was doing. It was going to be a piece of cake.

After several minutes spent just looking at them, Alex couldn't take the silence anymore. He just had to say something. This was just too good.

Did they at least realize that everyone was still around them? He really doubted it with the way they seemed to be totally captivated by the other.

Lifting his fist to his mouth and faking to be holding a mike, he started in a deep voice and as seriously as he could:

"Ladies and Gentlemen… tonight for our annual 'Look into my Soul Staring Contest' we have two new… and may I say very talented participants… On our right we have Maxwell 'Sexyboy' Evans… and on our left we have Elizabeth…uh…" Stopping there he suddenly put his other hand over the one he was using as a mike and turned to the others to ask: "What's her last name?… whaa-ouch!… what was that for?" he ended yelling.

Before he could even continue his speech, Maria and Isabel were slapping him and that was enough to make him realize again that some people would never understand his sense of humor.

"Man, no need to kill the messenger!… I was only pointing the obvious!" he mumbled under his breath while rubbing at his sore spots.

"Shut up Alex!" Maria warned him and Alex knew her well enough to know that she could do much worse than just slapping him. Maria Deluca certainly had to be the only girl on Earth who could perfectly kick his ass if she wanted and he knew better than to mess with her.

Just when Maria was going to introduce herself to her future roommate -if Max finally decided to let go of the girl of course- Cal arrived looking more happy than she had ever seen him in her life. Well, obviously he was more than satisfied with the new actress so that had to mean that all was pretty set for her. Yup, new roommate on the way!

At first sight she looked quite nice and she was good, that couldn't be denied.

Now she just hoped that she wouldn't be any trouble, but if the way Max was acting was any indication, it would certainly not be long before things exploded.

If Max wasn't able to control his obvious attraction to her, even his sometimes very blind girlfriend would notice that something was happening and knowing her she would blow a gasket.

"Elizabeth … you were fantastic… fantastic really!… in fact you two were IN-CRE-DI-BLE!" Cal said excitedly seeing how everything had gone beyond his hopes.

So yes they would have to shoot part of the end again but besides that, everything had been perfect. More than perfect in fact and he was sure that this first scene between Max and Elizabeth would be a reference in the show. He couldn't remember having filmed such an intense scene between two actors of the series before, and they had not even reached the 'intense parts' yet. Yes he definitely had had one of his good intuitions the day he had hired Elizabeth.

"Thank you… but I messed up in the end. " Liz snapped off of her trance and said not as proud of herself as he seemed to be.
If it weren't for Max she would certainly have blown it big time. So there was nothing to be proud of. Then if you saw things from a different angle, if it weren't for Max, she would certainly not have been so nervous to begin with, right?

"No, no… it's okay… we'll just have to film what has been missed later… but don't worry… you two did it perfectly until then… I couldn't have hoped for more, really! " Cal insisted wanting her to realize that not everyone could start under such circumstances and do so well. Many others would have failed long before and they were supposed to be professionals, not beginners.

"Nice save by the way, Evans!" he added, addressing to Max who could only smile and nod his head as to indicate that it was nothing.

He would do it over and over again if that meant that Cal was satisfied with them and let Liz stay in the series. He knew Cal and if something, or someone, wasn't to his liking, he had absolutely no remorse getting rid of the problem. After all he was the big boss here. Actually it was a wonder he wasn't already kicking him out of the show after his messing up, but Max was sure he would hear about that later.

"Okay… well Elizabeth… I think that it's time for you to be introduced to the mass… What do you think? " Cal then asked Liz.

"I guess…" Liz answered suddenly feeling very self-conscious with everyone's gaze on her.

"Fine… like you certainly know by now… the one who is still holding your hand is Maxwell Evans… though around here he is more known as Sexyboy…" Cal started trying not to laugh at Max and Liz's reactions and their crimson faces when they both realized that they had yet to let go of each other's hands. AGAIN.

He would certainly give it second thoughts later and try to see if this was a good thing or not but for now he still had a schedule to keep and couldn't waste too much time on that. Besides he found it kind of cute himself, so did it really matter?

"Yeah… I… uh… I heard about that!" Liz replied praying that her face didn't look as red as she was sure it was. Wishful thinking, right?

How many times could a person be humiliated in such a short lapse of time? she then wondered.

Embarrassed beyond belief, she kept her eyes down and didn't even dare look in Max's direction sure that his behavior had to mirror her own. Only when she heard Cal continuing with the presentation did she dare look up again.

"And here we have Michael Guerin, Kyle Valenti, Maria Deluca, Isabel Ramirez, and last but not least… Alex Whitman… our very own personal comedian. " he finished, having heard part of what Alex had said before. "Guys… this is Elizabeth Parker, your new partner... I think we can make it official now, right? "

Of course not one to miss an opportunity or deny what he took as a compliment, Alex couldn't help but making a little reverence at the mention of his name while the others greeted Liz rather warmly.

"Yeah… Hi everyone. " Liz answered trying to smile as much as she could despite the circumstances. " You can call me… " she started but was cut off by a soft whisper next to her.

"Liz..." Max breathed out before he could even stop himself.

Only when he saw the shocked expressions and looks on everyone's faces but more particularly on Liz's did he realize what he had just done.

Holy shit!

Did he just say her name out loud? Oh fuck, he did! he thought, wanting to strangle himself with his own hands.

Liz looked at him like he was a freaking alien stepping from another world, not understanding how he could know about that. She didn't remember giving him her name last week and until now the only ones here who had seen her before the scene and knew about her diminutive, were Isabel who she had indeed met but who had certainly not seen Max before starting and Cal who obstinately refused to call her anything but Elizabeth, so how could he possibly know.

Seeing all eyes turned to him Max tried to explain himself.

"We met before…" he started like it could justify anything or the dreamy way he knew he had expelled her name. "… at the airport… it was a crush…a crash… I mean… we crashed into each other. " he went on but immediately grimaced realizing that he was only making things worse with each single word that escaped his lips.

He hadn't really said 'crush' in front of everyone, had he? Could someone, anyone tell him he hadn't! Please! Even he couldn't be so stupid, right?

Max was sure that he was going to die from embarrassment and wished that the ground could open beneath him and make him disappear once and for all. First the hands, the kiss and now that. There was no doubt in his mind that now Liz would think that he was a loser or maybe some kind of pervert who was obsessed with her when he had seen her only once in his life -so okay, he was obsessed with her, but he WAS NOT a pervert! What? Of course he was not!- if she hadn't thought about that before of course.

But surprisingly her reaction was nothing like the one he had expected. When he was sure she was going to slap him and ask him to not approach her in his life or that she didn't want him anywhere near her if it wasn't for professional matters, she smiled.

She smiled that intoxicating smile of hers and Max felt his heart skipping a beat.

Yup, he must have died finally, but death was definitely sweet.

From Chapter 6.b

"Liz" Max breathed before he could even stop himself.

Only when he saw the shocked expressions and looks on everyone's faces but more particularly on Liz's did he realize what he had just done.

Chapter seven

In different circumstances Liz would certainly have kept wondering how the hell he could have this information when he wasn't supposed to, or if she had to be afraid he was some kind of maniac who had been stalking her or something, but seeing Max so nervous now, she could only smile.

Yes, she had to admit that she really loved how cute he looked when he was all flushed and embarrassed. She loved how he instinctively scratched the back of his neck when he was nervous and most of all she loved how he could look like a little boy at that moment when he was so man outwardly. And what a man, Liz almost moaned out loud.

She saw him looking at his shoes like they were suddenly the most interesting thing in the world and she just knew she couldn't let him squirm any longer.

"Yes… that's right… we briefly met last week!" she confirmed and informed the others who until now were still looking at them questioningly.

"Oh!" was all Cal could say, realizing that despite all his efforts to not have them meeting before the right moment it had happened nonetheless.

Well, that only proved him that even with the best will in the world you couldn't control fate. But it wasn't as if it really mattered anymore. As long as everything had gone well that was all he asked.

"Hey… wait… no… leave this here…" he then suddenly yelled, catching some movement on his left and they all saw him running towards one of the technicians, obviously not very pleased with what he was doing.

"It's… nice seeing you again Max!" Liz turned to Max and told him, shyly pushing her hair back once more. She didn't know what to tell a guy she had only met once in her life but already affected her so much. She only hoped that it would be enough for him to understand that it was alright and she wasn't upset or anything.

Apparently it was if the little shy smile that reached Max's lips was any indication.

"S-Same here" Max answered, still a little tongue-tied around her, but feeling as if a big weight had left his shoulders. Maybe she didn't think he was a loser after all. However he knew he would have to give her some explanation later, he didn't want her to be mistaken about him.

God, here we go again, Michael thought when he saw Max and Liz looking at each other with lovesick eyes all over again. Could he throw up right now or did he have to wait some more, huh? Not that he minded their obvious attraction, but well, all this was just… not his thing!

Liz hadn't even looked at him twice since they had been introduced and he couldn't wait any longer and so he coughed to get her attention.

"Oh… Hi Moron!" Liz heard him and said as seriously as possible, leaving everyone else around her gaping, but glad herself for the distraction. At least if she concentrated on Michael, she wouldn't have time to think about the fact that her stomach was doing flip-flops each and every time she met Maxwell Evans's soulful eyes.

Max immediately snapped off La-La-Liz-Land and looked at her totally shocked wondering what was suddenly happening here. Did she just say what he thought she said? No he had to have heard her wrong, but by the way everyone was looking at her, obviously she had just really called Michael 'moron'.

"Hi Squirt," Michael replied, the beginning of a smirk forming on his lips.

God, some things never changed.

"Pighead," Liz threw back, mischief dancing in her eyes.

"Lilliputian" Michael retorted, cocking an eyebrow and taking a step toward her.

Why could he already hear what she was going to say next?

"I hate you!"

BINGO.

Man, had this girl changed at all? Obviously not.

"Yeah, I know… I love you, too!" He lastly answered before giving up and flashing her his best smile. One of them had to stop, otherwise they would go on and on indefinitely and he knew how stubborn Liz could be.

Okaaay! Could someone tell him what the hell was happening here?, Max was only a second away from screaming and putting an end to all this.

Did just Michael say he loved her… *too*???

Hey, where was the 'Hi Max, it's nice seeing you again… I love YOU' part he had been waiting for. One minute Liz was talking to him and only him and something had to have gone really wrong here suddenly if you asked him since she was now exchanging 'love declarations' with someone that was not HIM! Yes that was definitely wrong. Michael couldn't love her, too!! He had no right to love her, too.

Max didn't even have time to process this information that the very next second Liz was in Michael's arms and he felt like crying out loud. Or maybe more like stomping his feet on the ground in frustration and desperation. Yeah, just like those little spoiled kids when they were very, very, very upset, exactly!

Well… one thing was for sure, they knew each other.

No kidding, duh!

But what were they exactly?

Friends. More than friends. Former friends. Former… lovers. Yuuuck!

What if she was in love with Michael? If their reaction was any indication they were pretty close. Did that mean that he didn't stand a chance now?

Wait. Had he just thought that? … oh yeah he had.

And as if that wasn't enough the little voice in his head attacked again.

MINE, MINE, MINE, his mind screamed incoherently and he had to resist the urge to grab her and pull her into his arms to prove his point and show every male within ten-miles radius that if she had to be in someone's arms it was in his and no one's else. No one had the right to touch her. NO ONE! Was he making himself clear enough here??

Now if he had been paying more attention, Max would have certainly noticed that he wasn't the only one to think that this situation was not to his liking.

Maria observed how Michael was reacting with this Liz -yeah, suddenly she was no new roommate, no new possible friend anymore but just this Liz- and she couldn't not feel jealous. It was the first time she could see him so evidently happy, smiling and at ease with someone else, and the truth was, it hurt. It hurt to know she wasn't the one to be able to make him feel this way, when there was no doubt that she had always wanted to. In fact, despite everything and Michael's sometime weird reactions to her, she had always hoped that she would be able to make him open up to her someday but what if it was too late now? What if he and Liz were more than friends? What if she was just what he needed, what he had always wanted?

So many questions. But only one way to find out.

"Well, well… let me guess… hmmm… You two… uh…know each other maybe?" Maria asked somewhat sarcastically, finally voicing the question that was on everyone's mind. Actually, for Maria, the real question was just how, and how much they knew each other.

"Oh yeah… yeah… sorry… yes, we kind of know each other quite well!" Michael answered without realizing what his sentence could imply. Instead he continued to hug Liz while she continued to laugh , too happy to see him again after so long.

However he didn't take Michael long to notice when he saw the quizzical or slightly shocked looks the others were giving him.

"I mean… remember when I told you I grew up in Albuquerque before moving to LA and then coming back to New Mexico?… well… Liz's mother was like the local day-care lady… so we kind of grew up together…" Michael finally elucidated for everyone, but that didn't reassure Max.

So they had grown up together, maybe like brother and sister, but that didn't mean that their feelings for each other were those of a brother and a sister. What if there was more? He would have to be blind to not see how close they seemed to be, and it was obvious they really cared for each other. What if it was more than just caring? What if it was love he was seeing?

He would have to find out, that was for sure. But for now he tried to convince himself that he was just being paranoid and maybe just a little too jealous of their evident complicity. Yeah, he was JUST. A. LITTLE. JEALOUS.

"Lucky me, huh? " Liz announced while looking at the others with a smile.

If they knew Michael like she knew him, there was no doubt they knew how he could be sometimes. Now at least she understood Isabel's description better. There was no doubt that that was her Michael. So serious and a bit of a grouch sometimes, but a real sweetheart once you knew him and he let you in. He was also the best friend ever and the most faithful if you had the chance to become his.

"Can you imagine me having to grow up with 'Mister Amiability' here… and now, when I thought I finally escaped him… I'm going to have to work with him… " Liz joked before openly laughing at Michael's expression.

"Well… had I known you were the Elizabeth we were waiting for… I would have quit the job!" Michael said raising an eyebrow and sure he would shut her big mouth up.

But Liz hadn't changed a bit and there was no way she would let him have the last word.

"And had I known you were working here I would have brought you your muzzle… Mister Barking Guerin!" Liz countered back not the least offended by his remark. Michael had always been like a big dog, he barked a lot but he didn't bite. Well that was at least what her mother used to say. Hence this nickname.

"Hey, watch your mouth Squirt!" Michael retorted warningly.

'Barking Guerin' was the nickname he had when they were younger -the one Liz had given him when they were younger to be precise- but he really didn't need everyone to know about that… or so many other things she could reveal.

"Don't call me Squirt… Miiickkeeeeey!" Liz replied, his name a long and almost painful to the ears whining. If he didn't explode in the few following seconds, she would shave her head, she thought sure of herself and searching the confrontation.

"Then stop making fun of me!… and the name is Michael… not Mike… not Mickey… and even less Miiickkeeeeey… you would think even after all this time you would remember!" Michael answered though the smile never really left his face.

Okaaay, so maybe Michael had changed a bit during the five years she hadn't seen him after all. She had been something like 15 at the time and he was almost 18 and back then, just hearing someone making fun of him or calling him Miiickkeeeeey was enough to have him throw a tantrum. Tiphany, Angie and Liz had become experts at pissing him off. Maybe they would have to find something else now if they wanted to have some fun with him.

Anyway, thank God she hadn't said anything about shaving her head out loud, because Michael might have changed a lot since then, but there was no doubt in her mind that he wouldn't have let this one pass. She would have been bald by the end of the day.

"If you say so… Miiickeeeeey!" Liz finally replied, though she whispered the last part.

"Squirt!" Michael whispered back having heard her nonetheless.

"Okay, okay… children!" Cal started trying to bring some order back.

He had come back just in time to hear Michael inform everyone that he too knew Liz and thought that maybe he should ask if anyone else here knew the girl, because for someone who hadn't been leaving in the States lately she surely knew a lot of people. But hopefully the obvious close relationship between them wouldn't be a problem. In fact, this could even work for the best.

Until she had talked to Michael, Elizabeth seemed to be really nervous and quite shy, but now she seemed to be acting more naturally. Even Michael seemed to be a totally different person in her presence. Not that he was usually bad or anything, just less expressive.

"Do I need to remind you where you are and what you're doing here?" he then continued though everyone could see he wasn't really scolding them.

"No Sir, Sorry Sir!" Michael launched into and saluted him like he was some army general or whatever. Of course everyone started laughing at that and Cal had to calm them down again.

"Okay, so Elizabeth… sorry, Liz… "he rectified when he saw how she was looking at him. "… there are one or two points I still want to go over with you before we continue… and then I want someone to give you a tour… I know that Cynthia is supposed to have shown you around a bit, but I think you need to know the place a little better before anything else, don't you think?"

"Yeah, that would be great, I don't think I could find my way around here after just one look… Iz had to take me here, otherwise I surely would have gotten lost!" Liz replied honestly.

A second and slower opportunity to see everything would certainly help her to find her bearings more quickly. She couldn't go on asking for people to help her or show her where everything was each time she needed to go somewhere, right?

"Iz? IZ?… what? You two know each other, too?… okay guys what is it? Was there a big 'let's introduce Liz Parker to everyone' Party and I was left aside or what?" Maria suddenly exclaimed indignantly.

How come everyone but her seemed to know her roommate, when she was supposed to be the one to spend most of the time with her. Well, beside Max of course, but that was not the point here. And yeah, Liz had gained her status of new roommate and possible friend back! What? She could change her mind, couldn't she?

"Hey, I wasn't invited either obviously because I don't know her! " Alex faked a pout and said.

"Ditto!" Kyle added though he was thinking that it was only a matter of time. If he could get rid of Evans first of course.

"No, no, don't worry…" Liz laughed seeing Maria outraged face but trying to ignore the other two pouting one's. Maria really made her think of a real drama queen and she was sure that living with her had to be something. " I met Isabel at the make-up room… and I don't really know Max… we only exchanged a few words last week, so… technically I only really know Michael here!" she then elucidated, though in her mind she had done more than just exchanged a few words with Max. Even if it was only in her imagination, she had been more intimate with this man than with anyone else in her life before.

She didn't know him YET, Max thought, but he would remedy to that and no later than… right now.

Seeing there his chance to spend some time with Liz, he was ready to offer his help, but unfortunately Kyle beat him to it before he could even open his mouth.

"You know… I would be more than glad to show her around Cal…" Kyle suddenly volunteered, his eyes riveted on Liz. Oh yes, some alone time with her would maybe be enough to make her forget her road had met the one of one Maxwell Evans today.

No need to say that the instant he heard his words, Max was fuming inside, ready to explode in fact, knowing that Kyle's sudden helpfulness was not innocent at all.

He was in full hunt mode again, having spotted a new prey and ready to attack the first opportunity he would get.

Max didn't know Liz enough to know if she would fall for his charms, but he didn't really feel like finding out. He had seen many other women falling into Kyle's clutches and he knew how easy it had been sometimes.

But what was he supposed to do now? Shove Kyle off, take Liz's hand or better, throw her over his shoulder and run as fast as he could and as far away from Kyle and his hunger for fresh meat as possible ? Somehow it didn't sound like the best idea of the day, and he wasn't sure that would be the best way to impress Liz.

Maybe Michael could help him here, he immediately thought seeing that he couldn't do that alone. He knew Kyle's reputation just as he did so if he cared for Liz he certainly wouldn't want her anywhere near Kyle.

Max turned to look at him and saw him ready to object -thing that he would have done himself if he wasn't afraid to be too obvious, moreover with what had already happened before -when he heard Cal refusing Kyle's 'so nice offer'.
Insert sarcasm here of course.

"Thank you Valenti, that's very nice of you… but actually I was more thinking about Evans here… I think it would be a good thing if they spent some time together and started to know each other since they are going to work so closely together… and besides… you know I need you for the intermediary scene. " he said ignoring Kyle's evident disappointment.

But honestly, even if he hadn't needed him, he didn't think that leaving Liz with Kyle for a quite long moment would have been a great idea. Even if he wasn't really that close to 'the band' as he called all of them, he had also heard about Kyle's reputation and Liz would definitely be safer and more secure with someone like Max than with someone like Kyle.

He knew he wouldn't be able to be always behind her and to always protect her, but his friend had trusted him with his daughter so the least he could do was to save her from finding herself in those kind of situations if and when he could. And right now he could. He knew Kyle wouldn't object against him this time.

Beside that he found Max more nervous today than he had ever seen him in his life, so maybe spending some time with Liz would help them both to relax some more around each other. He needed them to get along really well if he wanted everything he had planned to work.

OH. LORD.

Did this guy know how much he loved him, Max thought upon hearing him. Well, he surely did. Suddenly he felt like throwing himself into Cal's arms and showing him just how much this meant to him.

Yeah, he knew. Not a very manly reaction. Maybe all this talk about males and everything was finally starting to eat at his brain, but who cared? Cal was making all his dreams come true and Max felt like doing anything to thank him.

Right at this moment Max was sure he wouldn't have felt happier if someone had told him that he was given permission to make love to Liz Parker right this instant.

Okaaay, so no, that was not exactly the truth, because there was certainly nothing in this world that would have made him more *happy- happy* at the moment, but for now, he could be satisfied with just being her guide for the few hours ahead. He would just have to make sure their little tour lasted long enough for him to be able to know her a little better, if he couldn't learn everything about her in such a short time of course.

"Evans?… you don't mind right?" Cal asked Max, seeing that he suddenly didn't seem to be paying attention to what he was saying.

"Huh?" was Max's answer when he finally realized that someone was talking to him again.

To tell the truth, he had been so engrossed in mentally making a list of all the things he wanted to know about Liz that he hadn't even registered what had been said by everyone else. But seeing Liz biting her lips nervously like she was waiting for something he tried to concentrate again. "Sorry, what did you say?"

"I was asking you if you would mind showing Elizabeth around!" Cal repeated, trying his best to not roll his eyes.

"Oh… no, not at all… It would be a pleasure!" Max answered hastily, not wanting Cal, but most of all Liz to think that it could be a problem.

But then a terrible doubt assailed him and he couldn't help wondering if it wouldn't be a problem for her.

What if she preferred going with Kyle? Or maybe Michael rather than going with him? After all she hadn't said she wanted him to be her guide.

"I mean… if Liz doesn't mind… if-if you want me to, I'll be more than glad to help!" he quickly added.

"No, that's… great!" Liz replied, suddenly feeling all of the enthusiasm and excitation she had felt when she had heard Cal's suggestion vanishing.

Misunderstanding the meaning of Max's last sentence, she somehow managed to convince herself that Max was only doing her a favor and that that wasn't what he really wanted to do. Of course he would accompany her, but it was only because his boss was asking him to do so. He certainly had more important things to do than show the new girl around. And though she tried to deny it, she couldn't help feeling disappointed and hurt.

"So… everything is set then! … Elizabeth, do you feel like doing the rest of the scene right now, or would you rather wait?" Cal then questioned Liz, wanting to be sure she felt at ease with that.

After all, even if he had pressured her by telling her that she had only one shot, he had really considered the fact that they could have to make it in several times, at least part of it, so he had scheduled the afternoon depending on that. If she didn't feel like doing it right now they could take their time and do it later. This scene was the end of the episode and he wanted it completed as soon as possible but as long as it was done by the end of the day, they would still be in time.

"No, it's okay!… I mean… I just had a blank before … I…uh… but well… I can try again now if you want me to!" Liz answered not really wanting to go into details about why she had had this blank.

"Fine, then we will just start again from when Max stops you and go on from there! Once we're done you will come with me so we can go through those few last details and then you two can go, okay?" Cal told her before moving to sign some papers an assistant was giving him. "So… are you ready? Or do you have any questions?"

"Er… no… but shouldn't the extras start again too?" Liz wondered aloud seeing that they had been left pretty much alone. Michael and the others had moved aside as soon as they had heard Cal talking business and she was just staying with Max and Cal now.

"No, don't worry… you just do your part… I would take care of the rest, okay?" Cal provided with a smile. They didn't need any extras since he planned to film the rest of the scene in close shots. This way it would spare him the trouble of having to direct everyone again.

"Okay!" Liz said hesitantly.

"Are you sure you're okay with this?" she suddenly heard Max asking her.

She turned around and saw him looking at her, obviously concerned with her self being and she couldn't not smile at him.

"Yeah… I'm fine… don't worry!" she told him sincerely.

"Okay… let's go then!" Max replied smiling back and Liz was surprised to see him holding out his hand to her.

Her gaze lingered on it a brief instant as if she was wondering if she could take it or not before finally making up her mind and once more, hand in hand, they walked together to their designated spot, Liz drawing some strength from the contact, and Max only marveling at how perfectly her hand fitted in his.

For the ten or so following minutes they were again Matthew and Helena , two lost friends that were irremediably falling in love with each other, when in reality, both were well aware that they were only one mere step away from following their path and intertwining their destinies with those of their respective characters, even if none of them would admit it out loud.

"Cut! Okay guys… that's it!" Cal finally announced and clapped, drawing a relieved sigh from Liz.

At least this time she hadn't forgotten her lines despite Max's closeness. Small miracles finally did happen obviously.

"You were great!" Max whispered with a smile once they finished, taking this opportunity to compliment her since he hadn't done it before.

Of course he wished he could tell her more, but maybe it was still too soon to tell her just how fantastic and incredible he thought she was.

"Thank you!" Liz managed to say, immediately biting her lower lip.

By now Max was more aware of what that meant and he couldn't stop the smile from creeping upon his face.

There were two things Liz obviously did when she seemed to be nervous. Bite her lip and tuck her hair behind her ear. And Max found it totally endearing. After all, if she was nervous and shy around him, maybe it meant that he affected her at least a little bit. Then maybe there was some hope.

"So, what about we go to my office and finish with all the paperwork once and for all!" Cal suggested to Liz once he had joined them and before turning toward Max. "It shouldn't take us long… 15 maybe 20 minutes at the very most… so if you want to come and wait for her!"

"Hmm… yeah… but I have something to do first… so I'll join you, okay?" Max answered, dropping 'his' backpack at the side once he saw Liz doing the same. Yeah, first there was a little something he wanted to ask Michael.

"Fine… see you later Max!" Cal threw back before starting to move to see the others who had gathered further on their right when they had started shooting again.

"I see you soon, Liz" Max whispered to Liz when he saw her starting to follow Cal.

"Yeah… later, Max." Liz answered just as softly trying to not analyze what she was feeling at the thought of being alone with him or what she felt every time he said her name.

" Guys… Alex, Isabel… you're free for now… Maria, Kyle, Michael… be ready for when I come back… we still have a scene to shoot remember!" Cal succinctly informed the group and then moved towards his office.

"Michael… I… we…" Liz started, hoping that they would have time to really talk later. There was so much they had missed in each other's life and she hoped they could find some time soon to change that.

"Don't worry squirt… I'll be here when you come back!" Michael cut her off before she could continue knowing what she wanted to say.

"Yeah…See you then!" Liz replied, smiling this time despite the fact that he had called her 'squirt' again. He had to know she hated it, and always had, but somehow she knew that coming from Michael she didn't have to take it badly.

"Sure!" he answered and looked at her following Cal in the distance.

Liz had surely changed into a very beautiful and attractive woman in the last few years, but for him she would always be his little squirt, his little sister. Though they hadn't really kept in contact all those years so busy he was -last time he had heard about her in fact, he was moving to LA- it didn't change the fact that this girl meant more to him than anyone else here. Well, almost anyone else. But that was another story.

Oblivious to Michael's thoughts, everyone started to scatter around as soon as they saw Cal leaving, too happy they were to have a short break even if they hadn't really worked a lot today to say the least. Therefore Michael was a little surprised to see Max suddenly by his side.

However, that was nothing compared to how he felt once his friend opened his mouth.

"Michael… give me your keys." Max asked excitedly, suddenly feeling very restless. He couldn't wait to leave everyone else to their scene and have Liz all to himself.

Of course he would have to ask Michael a few things concerning Liz since he had to know a lot about her, but right now Max had other priorities.

"What?" Michael asked shocked.

Max couldn't really be asking him what he thought he was, right?

"Your keys… please…" Max repeated, trying to sound very confident.

He knew that Michael would rather cut himself an arm before letting anyone drive 'The Beast', but hey, that was the best way to see everything and it was the most comfortable too. At least FOR HIM.

Oh yes, anything with Liz so close to him could only be comfortable.

"You're kidding me right?"

That had to be it. He had to be kidding Michael thought. Max had never asked for his baby because he knew there was no way he would lend it to anyone. Not without a good reason at least.

"Do I look like I'm kidding?… come on man… give me your keys… I swear your baby won't suffer a scratch…I promise… please!" Max insisted, hoping that he didn't sound too desperate however.

"Maxwell! " Michael warned.

"Michael!" Max repeated using the same tone but somehow managing to not roll his eyes. It was never a good thing when someone used his full name. He knew that by experience. Go and ask his mom.

"Why do you need it anyway? Don’t you have your car? … or can't you go walking? " Michael asked, trying to find a way to refuse. Anything to not give into his request.

"Oh, c'mon Michael… if I have to give her a complete tour I'm not going to go walking… do you know how long it would take us? " Max whined like a little boy who was refused a present.

Okay, so forget about anything he had said about not sounding desperate. This was now a desperate situation.

Seeing him looking so pathetic, Michael had to resist the urge to roll his eyes. Since when was Max such a baby?

But that lasted only until he heard Max's offer.

"I will let you drive 'Bob II'… all the week if you want! " Max announced, knowing that this was at least something Michael couldn't refuse.

Okay, THAT was a good reason, Michael thought.

Max had never let anyone drive his new jeep, though Michael had driven the old one. He had thought it would be a couple of months, maybe even years before Max let anyone come anywhere near his precious car, and here he was offering him to finally drive it. Who in his right mind could refuse, huh?

"Two weeks… and whenever I want!" he tried to negotiate nonetheless.
Guys and their big toys!

"Whatever!" Max answered, holding his hand out, knowing that Michael wouldn't try to negotiate if he hadn't already made up his mind anyway. But Max was even ready to go to a year if he had to, so he didn't really care. All he wanted were the keys. NOW.

Wow, that was easy finally Michael thought, and hoping he wasn't making a mistake, he finally decided to accept.

"Okay… but I swear…" he started then let the sentence hang in the air and threw Max his keys knowing that he was certainly not even hearing him anymore, too eager he seemed to be to leave for his tour.

Now he only wished that the said trip didn't include a private tour of Max's bedroom. But Max wouldn't go so far right? He wasn't the type? Or maybe he didn't know him so well after all.

Maybe he was a "Valenti-in-disguise", waiting for an opportunity to show his true self and he would jump Liz as soon as they would be out of sight.
Okaaay, that was totally ridiculous, Guerin.

This was just Max. He was nothing like Kyle.

But that didn't mean he wouldn't have a little conversation with the two of them about what they could, and most importantly, COULD ABSOLUTELY NOT do with Liz.
Big Brother's instinct kicking in, yeah man!

"I know… "Max answered back, already far away and not even glancing back.

The instant he had had the keys in his hands he was literally flying in the direction of the parking and nothing else mattered than his time alone with Liz.

How was he supposed to think about anything else, and even less about waiting to listen to Michael's futile recommendations. "... Thank you"

"And take care of her or I would have to kick your ass… !" Michael yelled behind him. Only this time he wasn't talking about his 'baby' anymore but about Liz.

Best friend or not, he would definitely kick Max's ass if he hurt his little sister in any way. He just hoped he would never have to go this far.
