Summary: When Liz Parker comes to the crossroads in her life, which way will she choose?
Spoilers: This follows EOTW, the skins; dupes do not exist in my story.
Authors Note: this is my first attempt at writing fan fiction, and this story actually came to me in a dream

She wondered around the darkness searching for a way out, she couldn’t see anything in front of her. She closed her eyes trying to fight back the tears. She wanted to disappear, let the darkness swallow her. When she opened her eyes she found herself standing in a meadow, the wind slightly blowing her long brown hair. She tucked her hair behind her ears and surveyed her surroundings. Seems so peaceful here she thought to herself and started walking to the lonely tree she saw in a distance.
As she walked to the tree, she wondered why she didn’t feel scared or worried, for once in a long time she felt at ease, she felt like she was safe. Safe she tried to think back to the last time she felt safe. Her thoughts drifted towards Max Evans. I used to feel safe when I was with him.
Leaning against the tree she wondered where everyone else was, why was she here and where was she. Her head hurt like hell and she didn’t know why. `Hello’ she called out. No one answered her. Where the heck am I she thought. She started to walk away from the tree and felt a dizzy spell kicking in. `Ill look around right after I rest my eyes for bit’ she said aloud. Kneeling down on the trunk of the tree, she rested her back to its base and closed her eyes.
She didn’t see the figure walk up and stand over her. `Hello Elizabeth Parker’ the voice said. She raised her head to see the figure standing before her `who are you?’
Chapter 1
Liz Parker sat there looking at the bottle in her hand and her journal in the other, taking a sip she looked down at the words in her journal. Why does life have to be this hard, you start with a secret, you tell a lie to cover up that secret, and the lies only get bigger until it destroys everything? Even now I Liz Parker have the biggest secret of all to keep. The secret that only I carry the burden of knowing, the secret that has destroyed my life. Its funny how one little instant can change your whole path in life. She closed her journal and threw it across in room.
She closed her eyes and let the tears flow softly from her face. Opening her eyes she looked back out the window listening to the song on the radio come into focus. She started to think about the night her and Max were in the park.
Of all the things I've believed in
I just want to get it over with
Tears form behind my eyes
But I do not cry
Counting the days that pass me by
'Liz please slow down we need to talk about this’ Max pleaded with her. 'I know you Liz, I know you would never hurt me like that’ Liz slowly turned to face him.
I've been searching deep down in my soul
Words that I'm hearing are starting to get old
Feels like I'm starting all over again
The last three years were just pretend
And I said,
'Max please just let it go, its over and done with you have to move on with your life we have been over this already’

'So far, all I know is what I saw, and what I saw can't be true, because it means everything I felt in my heart for the last year is a lie! Now, you owe me an explanation, and I want it right now!

'Max, I am not who you think I am, I am not perfect okay, I made a mistake, me and Kyle slept together, end of story’ Max didn’t say anything just looked at her, turned his back towards her and walked away leaving Liz standing there alone in the park.

Lost in her thoughts she didn’t hear the door open.
"Liz what are you doing" shouted Maria.
“I want to be left alone,” shouted back Liz. “Are you drunk,” Maria asked. “Maria, please just leave me alone" continuing to look out the window taking a big swig of the liquor bottle... “Give me that" Maria said as she stole the bottle out of Liz’s hand. "I know your hurting Liz and you won’t tell me what's going on, but I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s going on"
I don’t want to talk about it" Liz said coldly. " Please come downstairs with the rest of us I don’t like you being up here alone like this" Maria pleaded. “Who’s the rest of us?" Liz asked. Knowing that Maria would not leave her alone until she came downstairs with her. " Kyle, Alex, Michael and Iz are here, we are having a little get together before school starts back up next week". Stated Maria.
" I really don’t feel like dealing with anyone right now, but I know you wont leave this room until I agree to go with you, just give me a minute to use the restroom and I will come down" Liz said as she staggered into the bathroom. “Five minutes chica then im coming back up here and will drag you downstairs,” Maria said as she headed to the doors. Looking in the mirror at her red eyes she thought could this night get any worse?
“Is she coming down?" asked Alex. Michael and Iz turn their head to the door as Maria is coming out “She will be down in a minute, but there is something you should know." “What" they all ask. “Well Liz is not herself right now" said Maria. “What do you mean?” Kyle asked. “She’s drunk" Maria said, “She’s drunk? The perfect Liz Parker". Asked the Ice princess. This I got to see thought Michael.
'I do not know what’s going on with her” Alex said as he started to hook up the Karaoke machine. 'Something must have happened between her and Max, he’s been moping around the house for the last two weeks’ Isabel said. 'I’m sure they will make up and suck face sooner or later’ Michael stated. 'I hope so, the way Max looked when he came home two weeks ago, looked like someone had just ran over his dog’ Isabel said. 'What do you think Kyle?’ Maria asked. 'No telling with those two’ said Kyle as he got up and walked over to where Alex was standing, hoping to change the subject. 'Hey Alex, let me help you with that’
Inside the Evans house
Max layed there in his bed staring up at the ceiling listening to the counting crows. Still after weeks of seeing the love of his life in bed with another man, not just any man, a man he begin to think of as a friend, he didn’t know whether he wanted to cry or to scream. I have to get out of herehe thought and grabbed his jacket and headed out of his window. After hours of walking around he found himself sitting on the park bench.
He seemed to be finding himself here a lot lately. Sitting there looking up at the stars, he didn’t see Tess walk up 'mind if I sit down’. Max shook his head no 'how are you doing’ he asked. 'I guess im doing ok, I thought Kyle and I were headed somewhere, but I guess his feeling are not the same.’ Tess started to look up at the stars also 'you know I keep thinking, It does not make sense’ 'what doesn’t?” Max asked. 'You would think the two of them would be all over themselves after what happened, but they act like nothing happened at all’.
'I don’t know Tess, whatever their reasons are its over and done with, I saw them with my own eyes.” 'I know you told me’ she said. 'you know I should be the angriest at her’ 'Why’ Max asked. 'Because this is the second time Liz Parker has taken something from me’ 'Tess, I was never yours for her to take’. '
'I know that now, back then when I first came here I had it set in my mind that we were meant to be together, that it just had to be that way it was our destiny’. Max turned his head towards her 'what made you change your mind’ Tess stood up and faced Max 'It was that night at the pod chamber when we got the message from your mother, when Liz walked away I saw the hurt in your eyes and I realized that you would never love me, that no one would ever replace her’.
Tess pushed a blonde curl away from her eyes 'so I took your advice when you said we create our own destinys and - 'you went after Kyle’ laughed Max. 'Sorry’ he said after noticing the death glare she was giving him. 'I always felt what Nasedo told me to feel, I never thought I would have feelings for someone so fast feeling on my own’. Placing her hands behind her neck and tilting her head back in a stretch' Buddha boy just kind of grew on me, I thought that he was feeling the same thing then he and Liz slept together’Slept together those words pierced Maxs heart closing his eyes remembering how he stood outside her window seeing the two of them in her bed. 'Can we not talk about this anymore please”. Tess shrugged her shoulder 'Okay, by the way are you going to the Crashdown tonight?’
Max stood up and started stretching 'I hadn’t planned on it, are you going?’ Tess smiled a little 'well lets just say that if I don’t show up, I will have a nightly visitor plaguing my dreams’ 'She told you that to huh’ laughed Max. Tess stood up and took his arm' well, shall we head over there?” 'why not, I really dont want a certain blonde to haunt my dreams' Max said.
Chapter 2
Liz stumbled thru the double doors of the Crashdown, looking at everyone staring at here she thought good at least I don’t have to face those two tonight
`What are you all staring at, you act like you have never seen someone drunk before’. Maria walked over to her and slid her arm around her arm `come on Chica, we are here to have some fun’ as she walked Liz over to a bar stool. `You are not actually thinking we all are going to sing Maria?’ Kyle asked as he handed Alex a wire to the Karokee machine. `Oh you bet your jockey butt you are going to sing, we all are’ she said as she glared at Michael noticing the look on his face.
`Ria I can do it myself’ Liz slurred as she went to sit on the bar stool and missed the stool landing on her butt. `Looks like you are doing a real good job by yourself’ Isabel laughed. Liz glared back at Isabel. Maria starting to feel the tension spoke up `So who wants to go first’. She asked.
They all looked at each other and groaned. `Fine ill go first, but you all are going to get up here and sing’. Maria stated as she walked over and took the mic. With a big smile on her face she laughed and said `For my first number it is going to be-“as the music started playing.
Turn around

Alex headed over to Liz `How you doing kiddo?’ he asked. `would be better if everyone stopped asking me that, and if I had’ she stood up and started walking to the kitchen `I’ll be right back, I need to get something’ she said and disappeared behind the door.

Tess and Max walked into the Crashdown, good shes not here thought Max as he gave a nod to Alex and Kyle and sat down in the booth next to Michael. Tess gave a weak smile to Kyle and headed over to the booth sitting down next to Isabel. `So, I see you decided to come’ Isabel said. `Well as much as I love you, my sister is the last person I want to see in my dreams every night’ laughed Max. `Ditto’ said Tess smiling. Isabel laughed out loud. `What’s that about’ Michael asked. `Nothing’ laughed Isabel `I just threatened the both of them’

Liz walked back into the front as Maria was finishing up her song. ‘Oh shit, what is he doing here’ she said to herself as she dropped the bottle of Tequilla in her hands. They all turned and looked at her. `Elizabeth Parker, what do you think you are doing’ Maria yelled as she grabbed a towel off the counter and walked over to Liz.
Liz fell to her knees and starting crying (sniff) `th- the bottle, I just wanted’ (hiccup) `I brought it down for everyone’ (sniff). `I thought we could all’ (sniff). Michael got up and came over, he bent down and waved his hand over the bottle bringing it back to its natural state. `Get a hold of yourself Parker, its just a bottle of liquor no need to cry about it’ he laughed. He picked her up and handed it back to her `see good as new’ he smiled. (hiccup) ` thank you’ Liz said as she hugged the bottle to her like it was a baby.
`Whats up with her’ Tess asked. `Um, shes just a little drunk’ Isabel said `OH!’ Tess and Max both said. Bringing their gaze back to Liz they watched her stumble back to the counter and put the bottle down, then bending down she brought up a couple of shot glasses and some lemons. `Now we can really get this party started’ Liz said as she opened the bottle and started to pour the Tequilla in shot glasses.
`Kyle Valenti, Alex Whitmen and Michael Geruin get your butts up here your next’ Maria yelled as she changed the disc in the machine’ Oh Man’ Kyle stated `Think I might need this’ he said as he took the glass and did a shot. `Me too’ Alex said doing the same thing and walking over to the machine. `That’s not fair’ Michael stated. `I can’t drink’ Kyle laughed and said ` It’s not my fault if you aliens get all freaky when you get a drop of alcohol in you.
`Since no one wanted to pick one, I picked one for you’ Maria said smiling. ‘Oh man, I can only imgine’ stated Alex looking at the screen the words started to come up and they started singing low. A long, long time ago I can still remember How that music used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance `Louder’ Tess hollered. The three of them just gave her a glare and started singing louder That I could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while But February made me shiver With every paper I delivered Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step
Soon the three of them started getting into it and dancing around the floor laughing and cutting up. I can't remember if I cried When I read about his widowed bride But something touched me deep inside The day the music died So bye, bye Miss American Pie Drove my Chevy to the levy but the levy was dry And good old boys were drinkin' whiskey and rye Singin' this’ll be the day that I die, This’ll be the day that I die.
Maria walked up to Max, Isabel, and Tess and sat down `your next’ she said with this evil looking grin on her face. ‘Im not singing Maria’ Max said. `Oh you will sing if I have to pull you by your hair up there to do it’ she said laughing. `and just because you are giving me such a hard time your gonna go by yourself’. She looked at Tess and Isabel. `we got one, we got one’ putting their hands up in defense laughing.
As soon as Kyle, Michael and Alex were finished Isabel and Tess stood up and walked over to the mics. `If we have to sing, then you have to get up and dance’ Isabel stated. `Noone danced while we were singing’ Alex shot back. `well we don’t sound as bad as you do’ laughed Tess. Kyle stuck his tongue out at Tess, all she could was smile.
“Ok here we go’ the girls said looking at each other. Uh Huh, life's like this, Uh Huh, uh Huh, That's the way it is. Cuz life's like this,Uh huh, uh huh, That's the way it is, Chill out, Whatcha yelling for? Lay back it's all been done before, And if you could only let it be you would see, I like you the way you are, When we're driving in your car, And you're talking to me one-on-one,But you've become-
Maria got up and started to dance, she walked over to Liz `come on babe, lets dance’ pulling her up `Ria, I don’t want to’ Liz protested. She looked over at Max and saw him staring at her `ok, but just for you’ she said. `By the way your next’ Maria stated. The four boys just sat there and watched as the two girls danced on the floor an the other two danced while they were singing.
`Ok you ready?’ asked Maria `No Maria, I don’t want to sing, you can’t make me’ Liz said as she started to walk back to the counter `nope your gonna sing, Kyle!’ Maria hollered as she motioned for him to come here. `Bring her up there, she refusing’ Liz just glared at him with her eyes. `Man I am glad you don’t have death ray eyes’ he laughed. The others just broke out into a laugh, even Max Evans let a smile creep across his face. `Liz, I love you like a sister, but if I had to do it, so do you’ Kyle said as he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. Tess and Max just looked at each other.
`Fine, let me get this over with’ Liz said as she snatched the mic out of Maria’s hand. `You know I love you’ Maria laughed `yea, yea’ Liz snapped back as she turned towards to screen to sing. She turned and glared at Maria when she saw what song it was, she gave her this I’ll deal with you later look and started to sing.

Max sat there and stared at her, listening to her sing and noticing she was trying to look everywhere but in his direction, he didn’t even notice the other six get up and start dancing.

Tess layed her head down on Kyles’ shoulder and closed her eyes. She heard him mumble `this is the way it should be’ She looked up at him `what did you say’ she asked. Meeting her eyes he said `this is the way it should be, me and you’ `Kyle’ she said looking at him confused `I never knew you had feelings for me, I thought you and Liz-‘ He stopped her before she could say anything else.
`Since the first time I saw you, I knew you were the one for me’ he said. `What happened between Liz and I cant explain its not my place’. He gave her a soft kiss on the lips. Tess wrapped her arms around him tighter `You don’t know how long I’ve been wanting this’ as she rested her head back on his shoulder.

Standing there singing, Liz tried to fight back the tears that wanted so badly to fall from her face, she glanced at Max sitting there in the booth looking back at her, she wanted so badly to run to him to tell him everything.

And I Think im going to be sick!
`Is that part of the song’ Isabel asked laughing and looking at the others, ‘No’ Alex said and watched Liz run towards the bathroom covering her mouth. Max got up and started to head to the back `I’ll Go” Maria said and ran off to the bathroom after Liz.
Maria crept into the bathroom and saw Liz on her knees hugging the toilet. `How are you doing’ she asked and she kneeled down beside her and held her hair up. `How does it look like I’m doing’ Liz snapped as she continued to throw up in the toilet. `Liz why do you do this to yourself, talk to me chica’. `I told you I didn’t want to talk about it’ Liz said as she rested her head down on her arms. `Does this have something to do Max’? `Maria, stop being so damn nosey, and take the hint I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT’ she yelled.
`Jeez, message received your bitchness, now if your finished worshipping the toilet god let me at least help you upstairs and put you to bed’ Maria said pulling Liz up off the floor. After making sure Liz was upstairs in bed Maria came back downstairs `how is she’? Alex asked. `She’s passed out cold’ said Maria.
`Well it looks like we should just call it a night’ Max said as he stood up to leave. `Stop right there your highness, who said this party was over’ Maria said smiling and picking up the mic `I believe it’s your turn to sing’.
Chapter 3
The next morning Liz rolled over and groaned as she answered the phone. ‘Hello’ she said as she put her hand on her pounding head. `Good morning, how are you feeling’ Maria asked on the other end of the phone. ‘Like my heads been hit with a sledge hammer’ moaned Liz. ‘Good now repeat after me, I'm sorry, Maria." Maria said. `I’m sorry, Maria.” Liz said groaning again. Maria laughed ‘Okay your forgiven’. Liz asked her `Do I wanna know what I did that I’m sorry for?’. Maria laughed again `Well lets just say if there was an award for Queen Bitch, you would have won it last night’. Liz sat up in her bed and told Maria she would see her when she got here, she had to go so she could open up the Crash Down.
Liz got up and dragged herself into the bathroom. She hoped taking a shower would ease her pounding head some. Walking downstairs she noticed Michael already there ‘She’s alive’ he smiled saying. `Only my body is’ Liz muttered as she walked over and turned the closed sign to open. A few minutes later Maria came walking in from the back. She walked up to Michael and placed a kiss on his check `good morning my favorite Martian’. `Could you please stop giving me nicknames’ Michael groaned.
`Oh but it’s just so much fun’ she laughed as she walked over to her first customers of the day. `Liz, when do your parents get back’? Maria asked as she walked back over to give Michael her order. `Sometime today’ Liz said as she popped two Tylenols in her mouth. `I’m never drinking again’ Liz said as she rubbed her temples. `We’ve all heard that one before’ laughed Maria. A couple of minutes later Tess walked in the door and sat down at one of the booths. Liz groaned and walked over to her `Hey’ Liz said. “Hey’ Tess answered back. `What can I get you’ Liz asked. `How about just a cherry coke’ Tess said. `Be right back with your order’ said Liz. As she turned around Tess said `Wait Liz’ Liz turned around. `Can we talk for a minute please’. Liz sighed and sat down across from her in the booth.
`Well I just wanted to say I’m sorry’ Tess said. `Sorry for what Tess?’ Liz asked confused. `Everything that I have done in the past, I know I have put you thru hell ever since I came here with the whole Max and destiny thing’. Tess continued on `I want you to know that I don’t believe that anymore’ `Tess it doesn’t matter anymore, Me and Max are not together anymore he has to move on with his life.’ Liz started to say.
`Wait Liz, I’m not finished I want to also say I’m sorry for Kyle’. `What about Kyle’ Liz asked. `Well I know that you two slept together and -‘ Liz’s eyes got big `how do you know’ `Max told me’ Tess said `Oh’ Liz said `god does everyone know?’ Liz asked. `No, I haven’t said anything, and I know Max hasn’t told anyone’. Tess could see the pain in her eyes, but could also see the relief that no one else knew what happened. `Liz, I want us to try and be friends, I don’t want me and Kyle getting together make matters worse’. `You and Kyle are together now?’ Liz asked.
`Well we both have admitted feelings towards each other, I’m not sure where we are headed but with you and him having slept-‘`Don’t worry about that Tess, that was a one time deal’ `We decided we were better off as friends’. getting up Liz said `I’m happy for you and Kyle, I hope everything works out for you two, but I really need to get back to work now’ ` You two looked real buddy buddy over there’ Maria said walking up behind Liz. `Oh, It’s nothing ‘ Liz said. The rest of the afternoon Liz tried to stay busy. When her shift ended she went upstairs and crashed.
A couple of weeks later
Liz walked the halls of school. She noticed Kyle and Tess standing at a locker lost in deep conversation. She started to think about her life and how much it had changed over the last year. She was so lost into her thought that she didn’t see where she was going. She ran right smack into something solid, stumbling backwards she felt two strong arms reach out and grab her. Eyeing her supporter up and down until she meet those familiar amber eyes. `Max’ Liz whispered `Thank you’. Max still holding onto her said `your welcome’. They stood that way for a few minutes staring into each others eyes. Liz started to speak `Max, I –‘ Max cut her off `I got to go’ he said and walked off leaving her in the hallway.
Lunch time came and Liz walked out to the courtyard, she saw the seven of them sitting under a tree cutting up and laughing. She hurried up and walked to Pam Troy when she saw Maria waving her hand at her to come over. `Now I know she saw me’ Maria said angrily’. `Who’ Michael asked. `Liz,’ Maria said `I don’t know what going on with her, she has been so shut out and moody lately’. Maria threw her hands up `She doesn’t return my phone calls anymore, and just now I know she saw me.’
`Maybe you don’t have the right body parts to get her attention’ Max mumbled under his breath turning to look at Kyle. `What did you just say’ Isabel asked. `What did you mean by that Max’ Alex threw in. `Max please’ Tess said giving him this please drop it look. `Nothing’ Max said. Alex noticed the two staring back at each other like they wanted to kill each other `Is there something going on between the two of you that we don’t know about’ he asked. `No, it nothing’ Max said as he stood up and grabbed his backpack `I forgot something in my locker’ he hollered as he walked away.
Maria’s eyes lit up and she squealed. The others looked at her like she was crazy. `I have an idea, and this weekend is perfect for it my mother is going be at some convention all weekend’. Maria said ‘perfect for what?’ Isabel asked. ` A girls night only at my house Saturday night’. `I don’t know’ Tess said. `Oh come on we need this and maybe we could get Liz to open up some to us’ Maria said. `Sounds good to me’ Isabel said. `I am not sure Maria, even thou we talked, me and Liz are not exactly the best of friends’ Tess said. `Maria smiled and said `Don’t worry, nothing bad is going to happen I promise’. After Tess agreed Maria was determined to get Liz to come.
Saturday came Maria and Liz were working the morning shift at the Crash down. Maria walked up to Liz `What are you doing tonight’ she asked. Liz answered `studying’. `No your not your going to come sleep at my house tonight for a girls night only.’ Maria said. `Maria’ Liz started `Don’t you Maria me, you owe me for blowing me off at school’. `I did not’ Liz said, Maria turned to her `You can not lie to me Liz Parker, I know you better than anyone’, Liz threw her hands up in the air `Oh alright, now can I get back to my customers?’ Maria squealed `this is going to be so much fun.’ After their shift Maria followed Liz upstairs so she could get her stuff.
Chapter 4
As Maria waited for Liz to finish getting dressed she asked her `is it alright to grab some of these tapes to bring’. `Yea, sure’ Liz yelled from her bathroom `none of them are labeled, how can you tell what’s what’ Maria said. ‘I haven’t had the time to go thru them’. `That’s okay we’ll try them out once we get to my house.’ Maria yelled. ‘Maria are you sure about this?’ Liz asked. `Yes, I promise nothing bad is going to happen’ Maria said. Liz stepped out and grabbed her bag. `Okay let’s go’ she groaned. `Cheer up, this is so what we need, a complete girls night without no guys’. Maria said looping her arm around Liz’s and walking out the door.
A couple hours later the four of them were sitting around with mud masks, and experimenting with different nail polishes. Of course Isabel and Tess were doing the actually changing of the colors. Maria laughed `I so need powers of my own, it would cut my time in half getting ready’. `Oh you mean you could actually be on time somewhere then’ Tess said. Maria picked up a pillow and threw it at her. ‘I don’t think all the powers in the world would get Maria on time anywhere’ Liz said. They all broke out into laughter.
The doorbell rang and Maria jumped up `I’ll get it’ she ran to the door and answered it ‘Ack’ they heard Alex scream `who are you and where’s my best friend’ he said smiling. ‘And I thought we were scary’ Michael added. ‘It’s called a mud facial, and what are you four doing here’ she said pointing to Kyle and Max walking up. `We are crashing your girl party’ Kyle said. Michael pushed his way into the house `I’m Hungry’ he said. ‘ Just like a man, always thinking with your stomach’ Maria laughed. Liz, Tess and Isabel grabbed a towel and wiped their faces clean before the guys could see them.
After a few minutes of the Hellos Alex walked over the stereo `What are all these tapes, none of them have titles on them’ Alex said as he picked one up. `I am not sure, I just grabbed some off of Liz’s desk.’ Maria said. `Just pick one and put it in, If you here me talking, then you know it’s not music’ Liz said. `Okay’ Alex said as he picked one up and put it in. He pressed the play button and all of a sudden eight eyes got big when they heard what was coming thru on the speakers.
Liz.
Max?
No, no, I don't...I don't know who you are, but you...you're not Max.
Liz, I know this is all hard to believe...
Wh-what? You expect me to believe that the...the granilith is like some sort of time machine?
Liz ran over to the table ‘Where did you get that, turn it off now’. ‘It was mixed up with your other tapes’ Maria said with this worried look on her face. Liz looked at Alex with tears in her eyes `Alex, please I’m begging you please turn it off now, your not suppose to hear that.’ ‘ No’ Max said looking at all the confused people standing around him. `I think we want to hear this’.
It wasn't intended to be, but it does have an enormous amount of power, and we were able to modify it to artificially create a tear in time space.
No! No! There is no such thing as time travel, ok...because it is against every rule of physics, of reality, of everything.
`That’s my voice, but I know I never had a conversation with you about that’ Max said looking at Liz. `What is going on Liz’. Liz looked back at him `I, I’m sorry’ was all she could say. Liz walked over to the wall and slid down burying her head in her lap, this was the day she had dreaded. The rest of them sat there and listened on.
Look, I realize this is overwhelming.
No, you're not Max, ok? You...you're like a shape shifter. You are like some other kind of alien, with, like, the ability to look like Max with that beard and those...and those grey hairs.
They all look at each other with their mouths popped slightly open, with this confused look on their faces looking to see if someone knew what was going on.

They all looked at Max and he lowered his head a little with his cheeks turning a bright red." Very creative" laughed Michael. `Shh, space boy’ Maria said slapping him on the arm.

I can't tell you too much, Liz...only what you need to know...but 14 years from now, we are taken over by our enemies.
Isabel, Michael, Tess and Max exchange a look between themselves wondering what the heck was going on.

Max closed his eyes as he felt the tears building up.

Just don't say anything. Ok, I...I just re-read "Romeo and Juliet", and you know, the first thing that I realized is that isn't even the title. It's called "The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet". They die. You know, she's this young girl, she...she's younger than me, and she dies. Look, I think the reason why people think that it's such a romantic play is they don't know what it's like to be put in that position...but when your life and...and other people's lives are...are put at risk, there isn't anything romantic about it. Max, you can't stop what's happening to you. I mean, your life will always be dangerous, but my life, it doesn't have to be. My life is only in danger if I am with you. I...I want to be in love with boys...normal boys. I...I want to see my 21st birthday. I...I want to have a wedding day. I...I...I want to have children...and I want my children to be safe. Max remembered that night and how much it killed him hearing those words come out of her mouth. They could hear Liz crying in the background on the tape.

She didn’t sleep with him, she didn’t sleep with him kept playing over and over in Max’s mind. “She didn’t sleep with you?’ Max asked mouthing the words to Kyle. Kyle just glared at him.

They hear Future Max’s voice again.
I've fought a thousand battles...but watching you do that was the hardest thing I've ever had to do.

Maria ran over and knelt beside Liz "Oh my god, Liz I had no idea all this time what you have been dealing with" "I forgot I recorded that, I was working on some notes and stuck the recorder in my pocket when the flash happened.’ Liz cried. Looking at the rest of the group and seeing Max start to walk towards her "I have to get out of here now, I can’t face him right now" Liz said and got up and started running out the door.
“Liz wait" hollered Max. She wasn’t ready to deal with this yet, her eyes were full of tears clouding her vision, she ran out of Maria’s house right into the middle of the street the last thing she saw were two bright lights.

She wondered around the darkness searching for a way out, she couldn’t see anything in front of her. She closed her eyes trying to fight back the tears. She wanted to disappear, let the darkness swallow her. When she opened her eyes she found herself standing in a meadow, the wind slightly blowing her long brown hair. She tucked her hair behind her ears and surveyed her surroundings. Seems so peaceful here she thought to herself and started walking to the lonely tree she saw in a distance.
As she walked to the tree, she wondered why she didn’t feel scared or worried, for once in a long time she felt at ease, she felt like she was safe. Safe she tried to think back to the last time she felt safe. Her thoughts drifted towards Max Evans. I used to feel safe when I was with him.
Leaning against the tree she wondered where everyone else was, why was she here and where was she. Her head hurt like hell and she didn’t know why. `Hello’ she called out. No one answered her. Where the heck am I she thought. She started to walk away from the tree and felt a dizzy spell kicking in. `Ill look around right after I rest my eyes for bit’ she said aloud. Kneeling down on the trunk of the tree, she rested her back to its base and closed her eyes.
She didn’t see the figure walk up and stand over her. `Hello Elizabeth Parker’ the voice said. She raised her head to see the figure standing before her `who are you?’
Chapter 1
Liz Parker sat there looking at the bottle in her hand and her journal in the other, taking a sip she looked down at the words in her journal. Why does life have to be this hard, you start with a secret, you tell a lie to cover up that secret, and the lies only get bigger until it destroys everything? Even now I Liz Parker have the biggest secret of all to keep. The secret that only I carry the burden of knowing, the secret that has destroyed my life. Its funny how one little instant can change your whole path in life. She closed her journal and threw it across in room.
She closed her eyes and let the tears flow softly from her face. Opening her eyes she looked back out the window listening to the song on the radio come into focus. She started to think about the night her and Max were in the park.
Of all the things I've believed in
I just want to get it over with
Tears form behind my eyes
But I do not cry
Counting the days that pass me by
'Liz please slow down we need to talk about this’ Max pleaded with her. 'I know you Liz, I know you would never hurt me like that’ Liz slowly turned to face him.
I've been searching deep down in my soul
Words that I'm hearing are starting to get old
Feels like I'm starting all over again
The last three years were just pretend

'Max please just let it go, its over and done with you have to move on with your life we have been over this already’

Lost in her thoughts she didn’t hear the door open.
"Liz what are you doing" shouted Maria.
“I want to be left alone,” shouted back Liz. “Are you drunk,” Maria asked. “Maria, please just leave me alone" continuing to look out the window taking a big swig of the liquor bottle... “Give me that" Maria said as she stole the bottle out of Liz’s hand. "I know your hurting Liz and you won’t tell me what's going on, but I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s going on"
I don’t want to talk about it" Liz said coldly. " Please come downstairs with the rest of us I don’t like you being up here alone like this" Maria pleaded. “Who’s the rest of us?" Liz asked. Knowing that Maria would not leave her alone until she came downstairs with her. " Kyle, Alex, Michael and Iz are here, we are having a little get together before school starts back up next week". Stated Maria.
" I really don’t feel like dealing with anyone right now, but I know you wont leave this room until I agree to go with you, just give me a minute to use the restroom and I will come down" Liz said as she staggered into the bathroom. “Five minutes chica then im coming back up here and will drag you downstairs,” Maria said as she headed to the doors. Looking in the mirror at her red eyes she thought could this night get any worse?
“Is she coming down?" asked Alex. Michael and Iz turn their head to the door as Maria is coming out “She will be down in a minute, but there is something you should know." “What" they all ask. “Well Liz is not herself right now" said Maria. “What do you mean?” Kyle asked. “She’s drunk" Maria said, “She’s drunk? The perfect Liz Parker". Asked the Ice princess. This I got to see thought Michael.
'I do not know what’s going on with her” Alex said as he started to hook up the Karaoke machine. 'Something must have happened between her and Max, he’s been moping around the house for the last two weeks’ Isabel said. 'I’m sure they will make up and suck face sooner or later’ Michael stated. 'I hope so, the way Max looked when he came home two weeks ago, looked like someone had just ran over his dog’ Isabel said. 'What do you think Kyle?’ Maria asked. 'No telling with those two’ said Kyle as he got up and walked over to where Alex was standing, hoping to change the subject. 'Hey Alex, let me help you with that’
Inside the Evans house
Max layed there in his bed staring up at the ceiling listening to the counting crows. Still after weeks of seeing the love of his life in bed with another man, not just any man, a man he begin to think of as a friend, he didn’t know whether he wanted to cry or to scream. I have to get out of herehe thought and grabbed his jacket and headed out of his window. After hours of walking around he found himself sitting on the park bench.
He seemed to be finding himself here a lot lately. Sitting there looking up at the stars, he didn’t see Tess walk up 'mind if I sit down’. Max shook his head no 'how are you doing’ he asked. 'I guess im doing ok, I thought Kyle and I were headed somewhere, but I guess his feeling are not the same.’ Tess started to look up at the stars also 'you know I keep thinking, It does not make sense’ 'what doesn’t?” Max asked. 'You would think the two of them would be all over themselves after what happened, but they act like nothing happened at all’.
'I don’t know Tess, whatever their reasons are its over and done with, I saw them with my own eyes.” 'I know you told me’ she said. 'you know I should be the angriest at her’ 'Why’ Max asked. 'Because this is the second time Liz Parker has taken something from me’ 'Tess, I was never yours for her to take’. '
'I know that now, back then when I first came here I had it set in my mind that we were meant to be together, that it just had to be that way it was our destiny’. Max turned his head towards her 'what made you change your mind’ Tess stood up and faced Max 'It was that night at the pod chamber when we got the message from your mother, when Liz walked away I saw the hurt in your eyes and I realized that you would never love me, that no one would ever replace her’.
Tess pushed a blonde curl away from her eyes 'so I took your advice when you said we create our own destinys and - 'you went after Kyle’ laughed Max. 'Sorry’ he said after noticing the death glare she was giving him. 'I always felt what Nasedo told me to feel, I never thought I would have feelings for someone so fast feeling on my own’. Placing her hands behind her neck and tilting her head back in a stretch' Buddha boy just kind of grew on me, I thought that he was feeling the same thing then he and Liz slept together’Slept together those words pierced Maxs heart closing his eyes remembering how he stood outside her window seeing the two of them in her bed. 'Can we not talk about this anymore please”. Tess shrugged her shoulder 'Okay, by the way are you going to the Crashdown tonight?’
Max stood up and started stretching 'I hadn’t planned on it, are you going?’ Tess smiled a little 'well lets just say that if I don’t show up, I will have a nightly visitor plaguing my dreams’ 'She told you that to huh’ laughed Max. Tess stood up and took his arm' well, shall we head over there?” 'why not, I really dont want a certain blonde to haunt my dreams' Max said.
Chapter 2
Liz stumbled thru the double doors of the Crashdown, looking at everyone staring at here she thought good at least I don’t have to face those two tonight
`What are you all staring at, you act like you have never seen someone drunk before’. Maria walked over to her and slid her arm around her arm `come on Chica, we are here to have some fun’ as she walked Liz over to a bar stool. `You are not actually thinking we all are going to sing Maria?’ Kyle asked as he handed Alex a wire to the Karokee machine. `Oh you bet your jockey butt you are going to sing, we all are’ she said as she glared at Michael noticing the look on his face.
`Ria I can do it myself’ Liz slurred as she went to sit on the bar stool and missed the stool landing on her butt. `Looks like you are doing a real good job by yourself’ Isabel laughed. Liz glared back at Isabel. Maria starting to feel the tension spoke up `So who wants to go first’. She asked.
They all looked at each other and groaned. `Fine ill go first, but you all are going to get up here and sing’. Maria stated as she walked over and took the mic. With a big smile on her face she laughed and said `For my first number it is going to be-“as the music started playing.

Tess gave a weak smile to Kyle and headed over to the booth sitting down next to Isabel. `So, I see you decided to come’ Isabel said. `Well as much as I love you, my sister is the last person I want to see in my dreams every night’ laughed Max. `Ditto’ said Tess smiling. Isabel laughed out loud. `What’s that about’ Michael asked. `Nothing’ laughed Isabel `I just threatened the both of them’

Liz walked back into the front as Maria was finishing up her song. ‘Oh shit, what is he doing here’ she said to herself as she dropped the bottle of Tequilla in her hands. They all turned and looked at her. `Elizabeth Parker, what do you think you are doing’ Maria yelled as she grabbed a towel off the counter and walked over to Liz.
Liz fell to her knees and starting crying (sniff) `th- the bottle, I just wanted’ (hiccup) `I brought it down for everyone’ (sniff). `I thought we could all’ (sniff). Michael got up and came over, he bent down and waved his hand over the bottle bringing it back to its natural state. `Get a hold of yourself Parker, its just a bottle of liquor no need to cry about it’ he laughed. He picked her up and handed it back to her `see good as new’ he smiled. (hiccup) ` thank you’ Liz said as she hugged the bottle to her like it was a baby.
`Whats up with her’ Tess asked. `Um, shes just a little drunk’ Isabel said `OH!’ Tess and Max both said. Bringing their gaze back to Liz they watched her stumble back to the counter and put the bottle down, then bending down she brought up a couple of shot glasses and some lemons. `Now we can really get this party started’ Liz said as she opened the bottle and started to pour the Tequilla in shot glasses.
`Kyle Valenti, Alex Whitmen and Michael Geruin get your butts up here your next’ Maria yelled as she changed the disc in the machine’ Oh Man’ Kyle stated `Think I might need this’ he said as he took the glass and did a shot. `Me too’ Alex said doing the same thing and walking over to the machine. `That’s not fair’ Michael stated. `I can’t drink’ Kyle laughed and said ` It’s not my fault if you aliens get all freaky when you get a drop of alcohol in you.
`Since no one wanted to pick one, I picked one for you’ Maria said smiling. ‘Oh man, I can only imgine’ stated Alex looking at the screen the words started to come up and they started singing low. A long, long time ago I can still remember How that music used to make me smile And I knew if I had my chance `Louder’ Tess hollered. Soon the three of them started getting into it and dancing around the floor laughing and cutting up. Maria walked up to Max, Isabel, and Tess and sat down `your next’ she said with this evil looking grin on her face. ‘Im not singing Maria’ Max said. `Oh you will sing if I have to pull you by your hair up there to do it’ she said laughing. `and just because you are giving me such a hard time your gonna go by yourself’. She looked at Tess and Isabel. `we got one, we got one’ putting their hands up in defense laughing.
As soon as Kyle, Michael and Alex were finished Isabel and Tess stood up and walked over to the mics. `If we have to sing, then you have to get up and dance’ Isabel stated. `Noone danced while we were singing’ Alex shot back. `well we don’t sound as bad as you do’ laughed Tess. Kyle stuck his tongue out at Tess, all she could was smile.
“Ok here we go’ the girls said looking at each other. Uh Huh, life's like this, Uh Huh, uh Huh, That's the way it is. Maria got up and started to dance, she walked over to Liz `come on babe, lets dance’ pulling her up `Ria, I don’t want to’ Liz protested. She looked over at Max and saw him staring at her `ok, but just for you’ she said. `By the way your next’ Maria stated. The four boys just sat there and watched as the two girls danced on the floor an the other two danced while they were singing.
`Ok you ready?’ asked Maria `No Maria, I don’t want to sing, you can’t make me’ Liz said as she started to walk back to the counter `nope your gonna sing, Kyle!’ Maria hollered as she motioned for him to come here. `Bring her up there, she refusing’ Liz just glared at him with her eyes. `Man I am glad you don’t have death ray eyes’ he laughed. The others just broke out into a laugh, even Max Evans let a smile creep across his face. `Liz, I love you like a sister, but if I had to do it, so do you’ Kyle said as he picked her up and threw her over his shoulder. Tess and Max just looked at each other.
`Fine, let me get this over with’ Liz said as she snatched the mic out of Maria’s hand. `You know I love you’ Maria laughed `yea, yea’ Liz snapped back as she turned towards to screen to sing. She turned and glared at Maria when she saw what song it was, she gave her this I’ll deal with you later look and started to sing.

Standing there singing, Liz tried to fight back the tears that wanted so badly to fall from her face, she glanced at Max sitting there in the booth looking back at her, she wanted so badly to run to him to tell him everything.

Maria crept into the bathroom and saw Liz on her knees hugging the toilet. `How are you doing’ she asked and she kneeled down beside her and held her hair up. `How does it look like I’m doing’ Liz snapped as she continued to throw up in the toilet. `Liz why do you do this to yourself, talk to me chica’. `I told you I didn’t want to talk about it’ Liz said as she rested her head down on her arms. `Does this have something to do Max’? `Maria, stop being so damn nosey, and take the hint I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT’ she yelled.
`Jeez, message received your bitchness, now if your finished worshipping the toilet god let me at least help you upstairs and put you to bed’ Maria said pulling Liz up off the floor. After making sure Liz was upstairs in bed Maria came back downstairs `how is she’? Alex asked. `She’s passed out cold’ said Maria.
`Well it looks like we should just call it a night’ Max said as he stood up to leave. `Stop right there your highness, who said this party was over’ Maria said smiling and picking up the mic `I believe it’s your turn to sing’.
Chapter 3
The next morning Liz rolled over and groaned as she answered the phone. ‘Hello’ she said as she put her hand on her pounding head. `Good morning, how are you feeling’ Maria asked on the other end of the phone. ‘Like my heads been hit with a sledge hammer’ moaned Liz. ‘Good now repeat after me, I'm sorry, Maria." Maria said. `I’m sorry, Maria.” Liz said groaning again. Maria laughed ‘Okay your forgiven’. Liz asked her `Do I wanna know what I did that I’m sorry for?’. Maria laughed again `Well lets just say if there was an award for Queen Bitch, you would have won it last night’. Liz sat up in her bed and told Maria she would see her when she got here, she had to go so she could open up the Crash Down.
Liz got up and dragged herself into the bathroom. She hoped taking a shower would ease her pounding head some. Walking downstairs she noticed Michael already there ‘She’s alive’ he smiled saying. `Only my body is’ Liz muttered as she walked over and turned the closed sign to open. A few minutes later Maria came walking in from the back. She walked up to Michael and placed a kiss on his check `good morning my favorite Martian’. `Could you please stop giving me nicknames’ Michael groaned.
`Oh but it’s just so much fun’ she laughed as she walked over to her first customers of the day. `Liz, when do your parents get back’? Maria asked as she walked back over to give Michael her order. `Sometime today’ Liz said as she popped two Tylenols in her mouth. `I’m never drinking again’ Liz said as she rubbed her temples. `We’ve all heard that one before’ laughed Maria. A couple of minutes later Tess walked in the door and sat down at one of the booths. Liz groaned and walked over to her `Hey’ Liz said. “Hey’ Tess answered back. `What can I get you’ Liz asked. `How about just a cherry coke’ Tess said. `Be right back with your order’ said Liz. As she turned around Tess said `Wait Liz’ Liz turned around. `Can we talk for a minute please’. Liz sighed and sat down across from her in the booth.
`Well I just wanted to say I’m sorry’ Tess said. `Sorry for what Tess?’ Liz asked confused. `Everything that I have done in the past, I know I have put you thru hell ever since I came here with the whole Max and destiny thing’. Tess continued on `I want you to know that I don’t believe that anymore’ `Tess it doesn’t matter anymore, Me and Max are not together anymore he has to move on with his life.’ Liz started to say.
`Wait Liz, I’m not finished I want to also say I’m sorry for Kyle’. `What about Kyle’ Liz asked. `Well I know that you two slept together and -‘ Liz’s eyes got big `how do you know’ `Max told me’ Tess said `Oh’ Liz said `god does everyone know?’ Liz asked. `No, I haven’t said anything, and I know Max hasn’t told anyone’. Tess could see the pain in her eyes, but could also see the relief that no one else knew what happened. `Liz, I want us to try and be friends, I don’t want me and Kyle getting together make matters worse’. `You and Kyle are together now?’ Liz asked.
`Well we both have admitted feelings towards each other, I’m not sure where we are headed but with you and him having slept-‘`Don’t worry about that Tess, that was a one time deal’ `We decided we were better off as friends’. getting up Liz said `I’m happy for you and Kyle, I hope everything works out for you two, but I really need to get back to work now’ ` You two looked real buddy buddy over there’ Maria said walking up behind Liz. `Oh, It’s nothing ‘ Liz said. The rest of the afternoon Liz tried to stay busy. When her shift ended she went upstairs and crashed.
A couple of weeks later
Liz walked the halls of school. She noticed Kyle and Tess standing at a locker lost in deep conversation. She started to think about her life and how much it had changed over the last year. She was so lost into her thought that she didn’t see where she was going. She ran right smack into something solid, stumbling backwards she felt two strong arms reach out and grab her. Eyeing her supporter up and down until she meet those familiar amber eyes. `Max’ Liz whispered `Thank you’. Max still holding onto her said `your welcome’. They stood that way for a few minutes staring into each others eyes. Liz started to speak `Max, I –‘ Max cut her off `I got to go’ he said and walked off leaving her in the hallway.
Lunch time came and Liz walked out to the courtyard, she saw the seven of them sitting under a tree cutting up and laughing. She hurried up and walked to Pam Troy when she saw Maria waving her hand at her to come over. `Now I know she saw me’ Maria said angrily’. `Who’ Michael asked. `Liz,’ Maria said `I don’t know what going on with her, she has been so shut out and moody lately’. Maria threw her hands up `She doesn’t return my phone calls anymore, and just now I know she saw me.’
`Maybe you don’t have the right body parts to get her attention’ Max mumbled under his breath turning to look at Kyle. `What did you just say’ Isabel asked. `What did you mean by that Max’ Alex threw in. `Max please’ Tess said giving him this please drop it look. `Nothing’ Max said. Alex noticed the two staring back at each other like they wanted to kill each other `Is there something going on between the two of you that we don’t know about’ he asked. `No, it nothing’ Max said as he stood up and grabbed his backpack `I forgot something in my locker’ he hollered as he walked away.
Maria’s eyes lit up and she squealed. The others looked at her like she was crazy. `I have an idea, and this weekend is perfect for it my mother is going be at some convention all weekend’. Maria said ‘perfect for what?’ Isabel asked. ` A girls night only at my house Saturday night’. `I don’t know’ Tess said. `Oh come on we need this and maybe we could get Liz to open up some to us’ Maria said. `Sounds good to me’ Isabel said. `I am not sure Maria, even thou we talked, me and Liz are not exactly the best of friends’ Tess said. `Maria smiled and said `Don’t worry, nothing bad is going to happen I promise’. After Tess agreed Maria was determined to get Liz to come.
Saturday came Maria and Liz were working the morning shift at the Crash down. Maria walked up to Liz `What are you doing tonight’ she asked. Liz answered `studying’. `No your not your going to come sleep at my house tonight for a girls night only.’ Maria said. `Maria’ Liz started `Don’t you Maria me, you owe me for blowing me off at school’. `I did not’ Liz said, Maria turned to her `You can not lie to me Liz Parker, I know you better than anyone’, Liz threw her hands up in the air `Oh alright, now can I get back to my customers?’ Maria squealed `this is going to be so much fun.’ After their shift Maria followed Liz upstairs so she could get her stuff.
Chapter 4
As Maria waited for Liz to finish getting dressed she asked her `is it alright to grab some of these tapes to bring’. `Yea, sure’ Liz yelled from her bathroom `none of them are labeled, how can you tell what’s what’ Maria said. ‘I haven’t had the time to go thru them’. `That’s okay we’ll try them out once we get to my house.’ Maria yelled. ‘Maria are you sure about this?’ Liz asked. `Yes, I promise nothing bad is going to happen’ Maria said. Liz stepped out and grabbed her bag. `Okay let’s go’ she groaned. `Cheer up, this is so what we need, a complete girls night without no guys’. Maria said looping her arm around Liz’s and walking out the door.
A couple hours later the four of them were sitting around with mud masks, and experimenting with different nail polishes. Of course Isabel and Tess were doing the actually changing of the colors. Maria laughed `I so need powers of my own, it would cut my time in half getting ready’. `Oh you mean you could actually be on time somewhere then’ Tess said. Maria picked up a pillow and threw it at her. ‘I don’t think all the powers in the world would get Maria on time anywhere’ Liz said. They all broke out into laughter.
The doorbell rang and Maria jumped up `I’ll get it’ she ran to the door and answered it ‘Ack’ they heard Alex scream `who are you and where’s my best friend’ he said smiling. ‘And I thought we were scary’ Michael added. ‘It’s called a mud facial, and what are you four doing here’ she said pointing to Kyle and Max walking up. `We are crashing your girl party’ Kyle said. Michael pushed his way into the house `I’m Hungry’ he said. ‘ Just like a man, always thinking with your stomach’ Maria laughed. Liz, Tess and Isabel grabbed a towel and wiped their faces clean before the guys could see them.
After a few minutes of the Hellos Alex walked over the stereo `What are all these tapes, none of them have titles on them’ Alex said as he picked one up. `I am not sure, I just grabbed some off of Liz’s desk.’ Maria said. `Just pick one and put it in, If you here me talking, then you know it’s not music’ Liz said. `Okay’ Alex said as he picked one up and put it in. He pressed the play button and all of a sudden eight eyes got big when they heard what was coming thru on the speakers.
