Prologue: The Last Command
Kyle Valenti stared at himself in the mirror. He hesitated before calmly dabbing the blood from his fingers. Cuts and bruises. It was all that kept him alive now. He was dead. A void inside, black as the space from which she ca- "Stop it!" He muttered to himself angerily. He wouldn't cry and grieve for her leaving, leaving him like everyone left him. Her voice whispered in his head, "You are nothing, just a human, how could I ever presume to love you." The others never asked how he was of course, the only one who ever really knew him was gone. The groups stability their anchor, was gone as well. Liz and Max were together somewhat, though the fact was neither was sure that the wounds between them could ever fully heal. Isabel grieved in her own way the Ice Princess facade was back in place and stronger than ever before. Her freezing glare and sharp comebacks for the masses that dared approach her left no doubt to him that she would never recover from the hurt. He could talk to her, he supposed, but what was the point. What was the point of saying, "I'm sorry, but maybe if I'd been stronger and maybe if I'd been more alert I could have kept her out of my mind. It was futile though. He had been trapped. He remembered the horror of being a prisoner in his mind, unable to speak or speak a single syllable. Tess had prevented him from stating anything that might reveal her true purpose and he had served as her puppet. He remembered in his nightmares what she forced him to do. She had forced him to break Alex's defences down by whatever means she saw fit. He sighed and opened up the medicine cabinet. *Flash* Blue Eyes, so cold so unfeeling glowed at him. Her voice distorted she said calmly, "Your last instructions are as follows you will kill your father and yourself, if you are unable to find the Stargate. by two weeks after I have left. You have served me faithfully Kyle and I will not tolerate you to have any other. Kyle slowly turned around and a single tear trickled down his cheek as he helplessly prepared to obey his last command.

Chapter 1: Spiraling Downward Into Flame
Interlude*
The Granolith glowed suddenly, the mountain trembeled slightly as the cave dislodged the dirt and brick. from the mouth.
Return*
"The DSPS tracking system registered a brief object similiar to the signature of an Asgard transportation device heading into deep space on-"
Major Samantha Carter sighed and turned back around. It was quiet in the breifing room with Colonel O'Neil absent and frankly, somewhat disconcerting. Currently she had volunteered to give this breifing to General Hammond and Colonel Maybourne who had, curiously enough, requested to be there. General Hammond had not objected however, if Carter was reading him right, he wasn't happy with the situation (not that it was easy for her to tell this however). She was just about to continue with her breifing when a large bright light appeared in the corner of the room and Colonel O'Neil appeared in mid yell. Everyone started slightly and Sam privately noted to herself that it was amazing how despite the fact that everyone could take for granted the idea of traveling through a wormhole in space to distances of thousands of light years apart, it still startled to actually see the StarGate and the otherworldly technologies in motion. Jack O'Neil muttered something under his breath about fishing and vacations and after straighting up he said finally, "We have a problem."

A figure in white appeared suddenly in front of the Evan's residence in Roswell, New Mexico. He brushed his robes awkwardly in an appearent effort to make himself look more presentable then went up the steps and knocked on the door. Isabel Evans stared up at the ceiling wondering how long it would be before she burned herself out. Alexisdead, Alexisdead, Jim Valenti's words rang through her mind again and again until she couldn't function and the tears threatened again. Then she heard the knocking on the door. She went downstairs to open it after checking her mirror to see how she looked. She had an image to maintain of the ice princess, for her prince had died and all her identity that was left was of the ice princess. Her brother had deserted her again remembering the words that echoed in her head still along with the mantra of Alex's death. I will drag you back to roswell. She would never leave her hell of icy glares and gossip. She was who she was now and couldn't change it all because the only man who had ever shown that she could be more than that was dead, and in the shell she made her heart was frozen and numb, without the pain of grief. She blinked as the doorbell ringed rather insistently until finally coming to the door she opened it, revealing no one. She was about to storm off when she noticed an envolope on the ground. Opening it she read the note's contents and raced off to find her keys.

Kyle delayed himself as much as possible, making excuses, but the compulsion was too powerful. It was only a matter of time before he gave in, he realized. This time though he was determined to fight to the last second. He opened the door and proceeded out leaving the figrue in th white robe who been silently and invisiably watching him in his wake.

"You're telling us Colonel, that the Asgards are requesting information about the activities of a unit of the FBI?" General Hammond said incredulously. "Yes, appearently, they believe that there were in fact prisoners taken from the crash and tortured for several years." Colonel Maybourne looked uneasy for a moment before Daniel stated calmly, "Jack not to doubt the word of the Asgards, but it seems kind of unlikely that any one would presume to torture an alien life form, without any kind of indication of hostility on their part." For a moment Sam thought she should call Maybourne on the uneasiness of his expression but the General jumped in and in his most commanding voice stated, "Something you'd like to add to this discussion Colonel Maybourne." The Colonel looked up again wearing that expression. "I'm afraid that's classified information, sir." Maybourne said clearly trying to dodge the question. "This is a classified briefing," Jack observed in his typical dry sense of humor. The General started to say something, stopped then and said very calmly, in an almost fatherly fashion, stated, "I'm going to ask you once more son, then I'm going to call the President." "General, I cannot give information about the subject without authorisation from my superiors. Now if you'll excuse I need to make a phone call," For a second Sam thought the General was going to explode but then he calmly stated, "You do that." Sam glanced around the other personall in the conference room. Daniel looked puzzeled, General Hammond looked angrier than she she had ever seen him before, T'ealc, was....well, T'ealc and Jack looked anoyed. "Permission to eavesdrop, Sir." Jack said innocently, then looked astonished as General Hammond looked at him for a moment then declared, "Granted."
********************
Isabel reached the turnoff for the exit just as she spotted Kyle's car headed for his father's fishing spot. She debated phoning Max or one of the others but decided that there was no time and frankly no use. The words still echoed in her head, Iwilldragyoubacktoroswell. She sighed and headed towards the fishing spot still wondering about the note. She had looked at it and just known that it was true. Kyle was in danger. The only questions were how and why.
********************
Kyle turned down the radio as he approached his destination point. He wanted to yell or to scream a warning but he was helpless. It was like a dream, he was moving and paralyzed at the same time. Just two more minutes and he would be relased from his guilt, he finally realized. Maybe this was his punishment for harboring a murderer. But why his father? He sighed.
********************
Isabel parked her car and raced after him, not noticing the white robed figure who appeared beside her suddenly. She began to run, her breath coming irregularly as she raced, heart beating faster as she raced to figure out why she was doing this, why she was helping Kyle. The answer came to her finally. 'Because I feel alive now' she thought. She was running, her blond hair swaying in the wind. I am alive now, she thought, in every way that mattered, I'm helping family.
*********************
Kyle picked up the knife that he carried in his bag. It was large now, and shown in the sun, it gleamed, innocent, free of blood, like him before he met Tess. His father lay calmly by the shore. His eyes were closed to the world, peaceful and calm. Kyle began crying softly now. "Jim" Isabel cried in the distance. Jim Valenti awake with a start to to see Kyle holding a butcher knife crying.
**********************
Jack O'Neil struggled to hear as he placed the glass to the door. Listening carefully, he struggled the hear the voice in Hammond's office. "We have to proceed carefully, if they suspect this could lead to an investigation. Yes, I'm aware that the special unit no longer exists but if they pull too hard this could start to unravel. I recommend pulling in Max Evans for questioning. Yes I know. Heavy interogation would be my recommendation. Yes, Goodbye sir." Colonel Maybourn opened the door, revealing a very put out looking Jack O'Neil. "What the-" "Who's Max Evans, sparky?" O'Neil said. He was never one for the subtle approach, and frankly having the Asgard play, let's beam up everybody's favorite earthling Jack O'Neil on his vacation just when he was about to catch a trout, was really kind of a downer on his day. "I don't know what-" "Let me explain something to you, Sparky I'm not happy, and well frankly, I could put out research questions on the special unit, Max Evans, and call General Hammond who will call the President who will call the DCI who will call the head of the NID and guess who's dog will get kicked. Now if you explain to me politly what your phone call was all about we can avoid all that. Maybourn said tightly, "It's classified. You have no idea-" "But I intend to find out." General Hammond's voice cut Maybourn off as the General walked into the room with three Airmen. "Escort Colonel Maybourn to the briefing room gentlemen. I need to make a phone call.
****************
Kyle screamed for joy in his mind as Isabel arrived. "Kyle put the knife down." The intensity of the compulsion in his mind prevented him from complying with Isabel's order however. He advanced on his father longing to say something, to explain but unable to. "Kyle, give me the knife." "Give him the knife," A voice suddenly said and he turned reflexively shocked to see a white robed figure appear out of thin air. The figure pulled back the hood revealing Alex Whitman's smiling face.

Chapter 2: A Rebirth
The shock at Alex's command caused the knife to drop from Kyle's nerveless fingers. His mind suddenly cleared as he stared into Alex's eyes. "I come back to you now at the turn of the tide." Alex quoted solemnly with a twinkle in his eyes. Kyle could see Isabel running towards Alex and his father sit up staring at the impossible site that greeted him from his awakening. "I'm sorry." Kyle said quickly realizing what his first words had to be. He felt power emanating from Alex, like a tangible presence despite any physical absence. "Alex?" Isabel's voice trembled uncertainly and suddenly Kyle could see what he thought Alex saw all along, the uncertainty of a little girl unsure of herself and afraid to let anyone in. Alex turned towards her and his look changed from bemused to nostalgic in one instant. "Isabel," he said looking at her and for a second Kyle felt like a voyeur, watching something so intimate between two people, Alex's longing evident on his face and Isabel tenuously stepping towards him. They stayed like that for what seemed like eternity. "Not to interrupt," Jim said after a few minutes of silence, "But what the hell's going on?"
*****************
Jack O’Neil stared at General Hammond. “You’re kidding. Aliens are actually in Roswell New Mexico.” “Jack I’m quite serious. The DCI personally verified the matter with the FBI head and is forwarding the information to us as soon as possible. Apparently the last head of the special unit attempted, a man named Daniel Pierce, used heavy interrogation on one of them before attempting to destroy all the evidence of the units activities, but the NID intercepted some of the copies. “Just when I think I’ve seen everything.” Jack muttered as they both walked to the briefing room. “We just saw the footage, sir.” Sam and Daniel both looked up from the video they were watching, both looking a little green. “How bad?” Jack asked, remembering his own experiences at the hands of the Iraqi prison guards when he was captured for six months while on a mission for Air Force Special Operations Command’s 720 th Special Tactics Group. “It’s bad sir.” Sam said, pausing the tape. “General how the hell could this be sanctioned?” Daniel asked furiously. “Dr. Jackson this isn’t sanctioned. I spoke at length with the DCI and the footage that the NID sent up was conducted by a rogue group of FBI members.” General Hammond said firmly. “After seeing the footage, he assures me that an investigation is under way as we speak. “Good to hear,” Jack said, clapping his hands together, “I take it a field trip is in order.” “DSPS verified that the Asgard device left from a section of the New Mexico desert and while they were unable to pinpoint the exact location they were to get enough of a rough idea to be able to get a fix on the position with a KH-14.” Sam stated. “So what now?” Asked Daniel curiously. “We should go out and establish contact with them. Colonel Maybourn recommended heavy interrogation of Max Evans again to try and discover more about a possible link to the Asgard. We have to get to him first.” The General said firmly, in a tone that booked no argument.
******************
The question hung in the air as Alex tore his gaze away from Isabel to Jim finally saying, “I need to talk to the group.” “Why, what is this all about?” “I don’t have time, Jim.” Alex said firmly. “My time here is limited and there are several other places that need my attention. The Granolith is still here and-“ “Wait, you aren’t staying?” Isabel said, grabbing his arm. “It’s not my time yet. There are still things that need to happen before I can fully return. I’m afraid my battle has just begun.” “I love you.” Isabel said the scared little girl suddenly a women with her lost prince back. “I think we both know I love you too.” Alex said and they kissed for what would be (unbeknownst to them) the last bit of peace for some time.
******************
The CV-22 roared through the air, the noise surprisingly muffled through the inside. Daniel was reading some Archeological journal, while Sam was working on her laptop on some technical thing or other Jack figured. T’elc seemed to doze, although Jack could tell from his breathing patterns that he was just meditating rather than fully sleeping. Sam looked up from her laptop. “You know sir, it might help the time go by faster if you tried to sleep.” Jack snorted, “Carter the only time that I would sleep on a plane is if I’m flying it. You know the saying, I’d like to die in my sleep like my grandfather not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his plane.” “Car, Jack,” Daniel observed, looking up as well. “Whatever,” Jack muttered.
*******************
Isabel’s heart hammered as she kissed Alex, receiving flashes quicker than she ever had before. The worlds and universe flashed through her mind matching the turmoil of her heart. A slight throat clearing broke the connection as Kyle was examining the sky above them and Jim seemed fairly absorbed in cleaning his fishing rod. She blinked and with a flash, Alex disappeared. “We should call the others,” Kyle observed snapping out of his observation of the bright sky above. Isabel frowned, she wasn’t eager too, but perhaps the time had come for her and Max to have it out once and for all.

Chapter 3: The Walk Through the Fire
Two Hours Later:
Isabel Evans strode purposely down the hall to her brothers room. Judging from the amount of giggling she prudently decided to knock lest she be scarred for life. “Just a minute,” Max yelled from inside. Isabel blinked, frankly Max hadn’t sounded that cheerful since she couldn’t remember when. Max appeared, followed by a semi-clad Pam Troy…PAM TROY?! Isabel stared at Max. Something was seriously wrong here; her brother had loved Liz Parker since forever. Also add in the fact that the stench of pot was in the air, and it didn’t take a genius to figure out something was seriously rotten the state of Maxwell. She moved forward trying to ignore the sick feeling in her stomach that something was seriously wrong then she said calmly, “Max, can I have a word with you privately.” Max looked at her oddly for a moment then said casually, “Nah. Sorry to disappoint princess but Maxy-pad ain’t here right now... My name is Zan.” He shape shifted suddenly, revealing spiky hair and an outfit that defiantly screamed punk; a leather duster and white wife beater shirt underneath and way the hell too tight leather pants. Definitely not Max but, “Aren’t you dead?” Isabel asked shakily. Alex was supposed to be dead as well, but she had been so overjoyed to see him that it came with as much less of a shock. Even in Roswell the dead didn’t usually come back to life so Isabel decided she could live with a certain amount of shakiness in her voice, mixed in with the normal “dupe shock” of seeing one of her family dressed that way with mannerisms to match. Pam giggled inanely and Isabel suddenly wondered how she was going to explain the shape shifting before realizing that she was high enough so that Isabel could probably dreamwalk her without any major difficulties at the moment. Zan turned and grinned before shoving her towards the bed and closing the door. “Let’s talk.” He said, still smiling. Isabel looked at his eyes then and wished she hadn’t. There was something about his eyes that looked different than Max’s. Physically, they were the same but somehow the lack of humanity in them showed through, in a way that Max’s never had Isabel thought. Her heartbeat quickened in fear as he stepped towards slightly but she tried to refuse to show weakness on her part. “Where’s Max?” She asked hating the slight tremor in her voice but unable to stop it, just looking at this false replica of her brother gave her the creeps. “Maxi-Pad went and got himself snatched. I’m afraid. Alex asked me to take his place while the feds have their fun with him.” Zan said grinning slightly. “What?” Isabel asked, with her heart in her throat. A white light appeared next to them suddenly next to both of them and a familiar voice suddenly exclaimed, “Zan, you idiot!” “Alex,” Zan and Isabel both said at the same time, Isabel sounding overjoyed, Zan sounding somewhat resigned. Zan looked over at Alex, than back at Isabel. “Isn’t this a hallmark moment.” He remarked snidely taking in their heartfelt looks at each other. “Well there might be a heart somewhere else besides on a card soon, Zan.” Alex muttered, obviously very angry with Zan. “Alex what’s going on, why-“ “I’m sorry, Isabel.” Alex interrupted her. “I was unable to get to Max before the NID took him.” “What’s the NID? Why” Isabel started before Alex interrupted her. “I can’t explain right now, but help will be coming soon. You have to get the others together at the Crashdown and I’ll explain everything then, I promise.” “What about Max?” “You can’t help him now, but once everyone is together you’ll be able to help him. I’ve got help coming that you’ll need to trust, ok. Just trust me.” “I always will.” Isabel whispered.
********************
As the Hummers sped towards Roswell (Reinforcements of SGC personnel had arrived separately via military transport at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, NM), inside Colonel O’Neil was talking over the SAT Phone to General Hammond. “What exactly are our orders, sir?” he inquired. Daniel sat up front with T’ealc teaching him how driving worked and discussing various music while fiddling with the radio as Sam went over the classified reports on each of the Roswell teens in back. General Hammond replied, “Try to make friendly contact with them and earn their trust. Try to keep them out of harm’s way and if the rogue NID has already captured them, check back and I’ll coordinate with the President and the DCI to see what can be done.” “We’ll do our best sir,” Jack muttered hanging up. “Well, what are our orders?” Sam asked. “Gain their trust and protect them.” “Given the circumstances that may prove difficult.” Sam said grimly still reading over the reports. As they passed the sign stating now entering Roswell, Jack sighed, feeling a certain of foreboding. God knows he done some stuff that he wasn’t exactly proud of, but still, these were just kids and the fact that someone had been willing to do this to them, wasn’t something he liked to consider. No Sam was right, this wasn’t going to be easy.
*******************
Max Evans was in agony. He was lying on a modified dentists chair while men in HAZMAT gear were torturing him. Perhaps he was paying he thought blearily for his time with Tess. The pain had been too much then, too. Nothing but pain he felt for not being able to save Alex, for not being able to forgive Liz for sleeping with Kyle. The “dentists” pried his mouth open with tools and began to drill seeking the tender nerve endings that were found in his teeth. He screamed for Liz but a weak rasp was all that came out due to the voice suppressing drugs injected into his voice box. He sighed finally as the pain stopped. A voice came from out of the shadows. One of the Men in Hazmat suits that was watching asked clearly, “Tell us about your home world Max.” Max tried to reply that he didn’t know, but could merely gasp at the pain. “Are you part Asgard, Max?” The questioner watched him then snapped his gloved fingers. The drills began again and Max screamed again, but couldn’t even hear his own voice this time over the pain.

The group assembled in the backroom. Liz’s parents were away at a conference and Liz had the Crashdown closed. Michael was the first to speak up. “Alright, Isabel, what’s this all about?” “Alex is alive, sort of.” Isabel said breathlessly. Liz and Maria gasped. Michael looked at her shocked, and Kyle and Jim both were still unnerved from the incident that happened earlier that at morning and didn’t react. Zan, who in the meantime looked like Max, just looked uneasy. “How?” Michael asked. “We saw him, we buried him. Max couldn’t bring him back.” A white flash interrupted him. Alex appeared then looking out of breath. “Sorry, I’m late.” “Alex,” The girls all squealed and hugged him. The guys looked on (Michael rather jealously as Maria hugged him rather vividly) until a rather large throat clearing interrupted the festivities. “Not to interrupt but what’s going on? How are you still alive?” Michael asked in his best I’m-an-alien-but-I’m-still-gonna-go-Scully-on-you. “I’m not technically alive per se, more like in a different state. At the moment I’m on a somewhat higher plane of existence.” Alex said calmly brushing off his white robes, which had become rumpled after the girls attacked him. “Well that clears that up.” Michael muttered. Alex smiled somewhat at that. “What about Max.” Isabel said clearly torn between wanting to know more about Alex’s situation but scared for her brother. The others looked at Zan as he changed back to form. “Zan.” Liz breathed. Zan looked at her boldly eyeing her up and down. “So you’re my dupe’s bitch huh? Funny, I was expecting someone taller.” Maria drew herself up to say something on behalf of Liz and judging from her expression it was going to be really good too, but Liz interrupted before she could say anything. “I was expecting you to be more of something too.” She said, with a pointed look down at the tight leather pants. Zan grinned and giving a quick pelvic thrust he said, “I’ll give however much you can take bitch.” Alex interrupted them both, “Zan cool it.” He said sharply. “You should all know that Max has been captured and is currently being tortured.” “What?” Liz asked sharply. She still hadn’t exactly worked out her feelings for Max but she had seen what happened to Max in the White Room and no one deserved that. The others looked similarly shocked. “How can we help him?” Michael demanded. “You can’t. But there’s help that’s coming. Kyle do you remember Tess final instructions about the StarGate?” “She wanted me to look for a device called a StarGate. The Air Force has one, that’s supposed to be able to travel to other worlds.” Kyle replied, his head still a little fuzzy from Tess’s mindwarping. “Yes well, I managed to get the Air Force to send a team down here. They’ll protect you and get Max back.” “Wait a minute, the military? How could you trust them with our secret?” Michael yelled. “Michael they have already contacted Alien life on other planets. They’re the good guys. You have to work with them. The people that kidnapped Max are professionals. They will kill Max if necessary, and any rescue you try to make will fail. This isn’t the keystone cops FBI that you were facing with Pierce. Besides which, you’ll need their help to mount a rescue attempt of any sort to get back Tess.” Alex explained firmly, still encapsulated by the group hug of girls around him. “Why would we want that bitch back?” Maria demanded. “She wasn’t responsible for the atrocities committed upon you. A Goa'uld was implanted in her in New York.” Kyle looked shocked and Alex caught his eyes, still seeing the remorse and sorrow for his actions there. But there was something else, almost as though he was afraid to show it. It was hope. “What’s a Goa'uld?” Michael asked. “Something very unpleasant” Jack said stepping in with the other members of SG-1. The others whirled around revealing a somewhat annoyed Jack O’Neil, puzzled looking Daniel Jackson, worried looking Sam Carter, and Teal’c (who looked like Teal’c). “Who are you?” Michael demanded, stepping forward and putting Maria behind him in an obvious attempt to shield her while raising a hand in case of attack. “I’m Jack O’Neil. The door was kind of locked so we unlocked it.” “Breaking and entering is a crime you know.” Jim stated firmly. “Don’t worry we didn’t break anything.” Jack said in his usual dry humor. Michael stared firmly, doing his best to attempt to intimidate Jack. Alex sighed then. “Thor was right, you can lack tact sometimes.” Jack stared at Alex. “You know Thor?” “Yes. It was I who requested that the Asgard contact you to bring Roswell to your attention. The rogue NID members are acting now and so they can be taken down. Max has already been kidnapped by them.” “Why do they want Max?” Daniel asked. “They think he’s part Asgard. But he’s not. He’s Antarian, which is the native race from one of the planets in the Midgard system. A group of colonies from various races were placed on all of the planets due to its strategic location in the whirlwind galaxy. The Midgard system has been at war for some time now since Khivar achieved dominance of Antar, which is the most powerful planet of all of them, due to the fact that the population was native to Antar and is the only planet not colonized.” Who’s Khivar?” Jack asked curious now that Alex had admitted to knowing Thor. “Khivar was the former second in command of the Antarian army. He achieved a military coup after assassinating the royal family. Their essences were sent back to Earth in the way of human/alien hybrids.” Alex motioned at the pod squad. “That’s what happened on our home planet?” Michael asked. “Yes, but that’s history at the moment. The problem that you really should be kind of concerned about is that Tess found and used the Granolith.” “The who and the what now?” Jack asked. “The Granolith, it’s a device that is exceedingly powerful ancients device and is the reason I’m here now.” “Yes, according to the files you died.” Sam interrupted. “I’m not dead, obviously, however, when Tess mindwarped me the Granolith intervened and elevated me to the ancients level. The Granolith is the doorway to the ancients current level of existence, among other things.” Alex replied. “Wait, so you’re where the ancients are now?” Daniel asked. “Yes, although strictly speaking that’s not entirely accurate. The Ancients are at a higher level than me. I guess a more accurate analogy is to say that I’m at a stepping stone between their existence and yours currently.” Alex explained, clearly trying to think how to best explain it. “Once you go to the Ancients level you can’t come back I still have a choice, however.” “How did the Ancients elevate to their current level and not bring the other races with them?” Daniel asked curiously. Alex cocked an ear as though listening to someone speak and than said quietly, “I’m afraid I’m forbidden to answer that question Daniel. There are only certain points that I can relate when dealing with you due to security reasons. The ancients don’t want other races particularly the Goa'uld to follow them. The only reason I’m being allowed to intervene at this point is that there is a strong possibility that the Antarian forces here on Earth will attempt to gain control of the Granolith and that cannot under any circumstances be allowed to happen. The Goa'uld, The Nox and even certain elements of the Tok’ra would stop at nothing to let-“ “The Tok’ra?” Samantha asked interrupted him shocked. “Yes, understand Major, that the Tok’ra have been fighting for symbioses for a long time. Like the NID there is an end justifies the means mentality that certain members of their group have been known to use. The Ancients will not risk the Granolith to fall into any race’s hands that has not proven themselves ready to be able to use it.” Alex said firmly. “Wait a second, so why put this thing on Earth then, why-“ Daniel begun. “Because the human race has potential.” Alex said simply. “Humans inhabit thousands of worlds throughout the gate network. Any of the old ones could have guarded it but their societies have grown stagnant with the technologies they use. The Nox and the other races are ‘older and wiser, supposedly because they have no concept of war. But the truth is that they are just in denial. They could easily have ended the Goa'uld threat but none of the other races will do so, besides the Asgards because they have their own reason, due to the fact that they view themselves as superior because they live in peace.” Alex sighed. “Sometimes war is necessary against evil, and the Goa'uld are as evil as you can get.” “What about the Ancients, then why send you to help out, why not just wipe Goa'uld out?” Jack asked. “Like the Asgard the Ancients also have a threat. One that is more powerful than anything the worst Goa'uld could imagine.” Alex shuddered, unconsciously seeking Isabel’s hand in need of support. “If they intervened and made this level of existence our battleground entire galaxies could be destroyed and billions of billions of innocent lives could be lost. I can advise but I can’t interfere directly.” “This is interesting, but shouldn’t we be concentrating on rescuing Max first.” Michael asked still somewhat uneasy about the presence of the SG team but unwilling to show weakness. “Yes, he’s being held at Eagle Rock for the moment. It’s been heavily retrofitted to be one of the most secure bases around. The biochem risks should be minimal, but I should warn you the compound has VX Nerve Gas fitted as a failsafe device to be used to prevent the workers from being captured. Michael, you recall most of the details of the base, you want to brief the Colonel?” “Let’s get the rest of the teams in here.” “How many people did you bring Colonel?” Michael asked, his voice and manner still tense but Maria give grabbed his hand and squeezed it in a show of support. Michael squeezed softly back. “SG-2, SG-3 and SG-4. We have a HRT support team on the way as well.” Jack replied, pretending to be somewhat nonplussed yet actually confused, as to how the hell a 17 year old half alien half human hybrid was taking charge. Michael walked over and began scribbling on a napkin. Slowly but surely a map started to appear. He squinted, concentrating on remembering from times past. A year ago, they had been alone then, their worst fears realized when one of their own was taken. But now, it was different. He wasn’t alone anymore, he had someone who saw him and loved him and he’d be damned if anyone would mess with his family.

Chapter 4: Through the Fire and the Rain
Max Evans lay on the cold ground; his body broken and mind wounded. The white room looked pretty much like it had the last time he had been there. No visible exits or entrances, just himself and the pain. He whimpered slightly as the room darkened and the temperature decreased slightly. Goosebumps formed and he moaned as on of his broken ribs starting aching due to the temperature and as a result made breathing even more of a chore than it already was. “Liz,” he muttered, as his one good eye closed matching the other one that had swollen shut. “Sorry Max, but wrong guess,” Alex said, internally worried for his friend. “Alex,” Max muttered. “I’m sorry, I couldn’t save you.” His eye opened and he looked at Alex dizzily. “Am I dead?” “No, but neither am I.” Alex said, sitting down next to Max and breathing hard, he was getting tired, moving from place to place as he had been doing was difficult given how many other things he currently was trying to do at the same time. Interference at this level of existence was hard to do and he could easily understand why now that the ancients rarely did it. He had paused, but gave himself a mental nudge, reminding himself what was at stake. “Max, you have to promise me something.” Max tried his best to focus on Alex, “Whatzat?” “You can’t give up Max. Neither of us can give up. We both have to do what we can, to change this world and we both have had to sacrifice ourselves to do it. Promise me that you’ll take care of Isabel for me. “Why,” Max grunted trying his best not to move his broken jaw. “There is still so much I have to do.” Alex said his voice soft and sad. “The road that I am forced to take leads me more and more away from Isabel. She needs her family now more than ever thanks to the events that have passed. After all this is over and what happens occurs, I still love her and want her to be happy.” ‘Thatz good.” Max muttered and collapsed.
****************
“Tango down, report Tango down!” Former SAC FBI agent and current head of operations for the HRT team Jay Cartwright screamed. Larry Brown, his second in command shook his head. “You’re a fanatic, you know that right?” “Hey, Rainbow Six is not just a computer game it’s a sport.” Jay Cartwright responded fondly, his voice carrying over the Chevy Suburban and radios monitoring local Roswell PD broadcasts, while directing his virtual squad on the laptop he watched. “Besides, the fact that the director has not seen to brief us but we are in fact waiting for the Air Force,” He started typing even more furiously than he already had been and then stopped. “They have no jurisdiction and yet somehow they end up as the leading element. This Colonel O’Neil guy refuses to tell us anything with the exception that rogue federal agents have taken hostages and he needs us “to contain the area.” The whole thing smells lousy and guess who ends taking the blame if something goes wrong.” “We do?” Larry guessed. “You betcha.” Jay replied. “So I’m thinking, what if we happen to see what’s going down?” “Spooks go medieval on our asses. But, frankly I think it would be worth it.” They both laughed.
****************
Two Hours Later…
Colonel O’Neil stared at the rocky terrain surrounding the old complex. It was unassuming as fortresses went, most likely to keep the civilian population at bay. There would be underground living quarters, as the staff would most likely be sequestered to prevent questions about daily comings and goings from an “abandoned” military base. The NID was a major player in the intelligence community despite (or because of) lack of public knowledge about them. During his work for the CIA SOG Jack had carried out some “distasteful things,” tickling (heavy interrogation), even the occasional termination order. Such was the unpleasant reality of work in the intelligence community. But there were areas that the western intelligence services drew the line at, even when doing work that ‘the hill’ wouldn’t have approved of. The rogue NID however, clearly didn’t follow those examples and would have to be dealt with. Jack wouldn’t have put it past them for dealing with the leaks that had come through about the StarGate in the past and that alone made them responsible for a death that could have been avoided. “Penny for your thoughts?” A voice inquired from behind him. O’Neil whirled around, MP-5SD at the ready. He let out an explosive bit of breath, narrowly avoiding use of an expletive. “Don’t Do That!” He growled between clenched teeth at Alex who had materialized behind him. “Sorry,” Alex said sounding amused. “You have to hurry it up a bit.” He then said a bit more seriously, “Max isn’t doing too well. They’re interrogation has really taken a toll on him and I don’t know how much more he can take before they cause irreversible damage.” Jack shook his head in disgust. He knew what it was like and was trying not to remember. His hands shook slightly and he forced it down. ‘I won’t remember. I can’t, the second you do you remember all of it. The drills whistling, the hammers, the helplessness.’ He suppressed it releasing some of the tension by letting his training take over. He felt the usual pre-op tension gear up, and relaxed slightly relating it for what it was. It was time to go in. He checked his gear, flashlights and other gear. “Sierra Golf One Alpha to all teams, are we in position.” Various affirmatives flashed through the radio and he paused. “Snipers have a Green Light.” He muttered into his com. Immediately the crack rang as five customized HRT rifles found their respective targets walking through the corridors above. The Hostage Rescue Team’s Snipers based out Quantico are among the finest in the world and are trained specifically to be able to put a round within the rough diameter of a quarter. Naturally, they were easily able to hit a moving target from 100 yards with no cross breeze. The glass shattered slightly as the bullets raced to their mark and found them easily. The NID personal patrolling had no warning at all and all five were downed within a second after the shots. The HRT snipers had been specifically ordered to shoot for the kill zones on their targets. “Go, Go, Go!” Jack frantically whispered into his com. The four SG teams raced towards the building, followed closely by over 30 HRT agents. “Fire in the hole,” Major Carter yelled as a specifically shaped breach charge designed to rupture doors was slapped against the entrance to the main building. Although it looked abandoned they had been assured that the complex had maximum security attached to it. Three helicopters approached from behind and begin landing more support troops while another circled the area looking for possible escapers from the base. General Hammond, with the cooperation of the President had procured as many units as possible at the news of NBCs on sight and for fear that the rogue NID may attempt to use them on attackers. While the first wave wouldn’t be dressed in Biochem gear, the second wave of attackers would be. The charge detonated, blowing a hole through the solid steel thickness. HALON fire suppression gas systems covered the area and the HRT and SG teams moved in standard ‘leapfrog’ formation. Six security personal began firing at them in the lobby as alarms sounded. Gunfire was penetrated the ringing of everyone’s ears from the explosion as the loud coughing of MP-5 SD’s mixed with the blasting of shotguns and Car-15s. The security personal were dressed in Kevlar and so switching to their training the SG teams aimed for the head. Two HRT members were wounded and two others were killed and the exchange happened taking less than 30 seconds, yet as in all firefights seeming like an eternity at the time. SG-2 sustained casualties as well as more security started to run to the front, most likely a delaying tactic until the Nerve Gas could be used. What they didn’t know however, O’Neil thought in a corner of his mind was that Alex had been able to disable most of the security measures throughout the building via access to a computer system inside the base. ‘Someone’s in for a surprise,’ he thought as the gunfight continued. Teal’c stepped in from behind them with a M-60 SAW pumping rounds faster than most of the security forces could react. The HRT personnel were sustaining the brunt of the casualties but more foes than friends were being hurt and the battle was beginning to end. “Through your weapons and surrender,” O’Neil yelled. The security forces did so, as their will to live overcame their training. As some of the HRT members cuffed them the others stepped forward. “Right, let’s go!” O’Neil yelled. As more reinforcement teams started coming through the breach in door, the others began moving down going building by building. The front end of the hallway was slick with blood where the battle had taken place. Unlike television, when people are killed it is an extremely messy business, and blood covered the floors and walls. Walking to avoid slipping by the teams began going room-to-room, searching for any signs of what had occurred. It was the HRT that found the first technicians hiding behind the desks. Quickly handcuffing them, the head agent radioed Colonel O’Neil with the news. Upon arriving, O’Neil began questioning them. “Where’s Max Evans?” Jay Cartwright and Larry Brown exchanged looks upon arrival; they had tagged along and were determined to see what was going on. “Who?” One of the scientists asked. “The hybrid.” Alex said grimly stepping through the door. The two FBI agents turned and covered him with their weapons before Major Carter motioned to them to back off. “He’s in the interrogation room at the moment.” The lead scientist said, a frosty expression on her face staring at the wall. After getting directions from the head scientist, the team proceeded down to the White Room. Upon site of Max’s body, they ran over to him. “Oh God,” Major Carter said looking down at him and reaching for his hand to find a pulse. “He’s alive,” She said clearly relived at news but alarmed at Max’s state. Max opened his eye slightly looking at the people around him. He closed his eye again hoping that the pain would pass and he would see Liz again to tell her he was sorry one last time for failing her as he felt the pain become too much and began to drift off into the darkness.

Chapter 5: Blood, Fire and Tears
The steady beeping of the health monitors woke Max Evans from his slumber. He kept his good eye closed. ‘Control your breathing. Don’t let them get to you. Don’t let them know you are awake or the pain starts.’ He breathed softly, terrified of what was around him. “I’m not comfortable having him here without his parents notification.” A voice said. Then the impossible happened; Alex’s voice said, “It should be their decision to tell their parents. Trust me, the time will come soon enough where it will be necessary.” Another voice started speaking, a women this time. “I’ve run some tests and the blood and cell samples definitely aren’t human. Physically they are human but the cellular structure is altered somehow. Also from the results of the MRI his brain is active in certain regions that I’ve never seen activity in.” “That makes sense,” Alex agreed. “They were designed to have powers that normal human weren’t so that would mean a larger amount of brain activity to control and use those powers.” “They were engineered?” The first voice asked. “Yes.” Alex replied a little more testily this time. “For various reasons, which I can’t go into at the moment.” “Sir, he’s awake.” Max opened his eye slightly at that. A dark haired woman was standing over him, observing him calmly. “I’m Doctor Fraiser.” She said. Max opened his mouth and croaked, “I don’t know, I can’t tell what I don’t know.” He turned his head then, and saw Liz and the others outside the door. Isabel, Liz and Maria all looked teary eyed and Kyle looking unkempt, unshaven and broody with bloodshot eyes, while Michael looked concerned in a Michael sort of way. Alex paused slightly, looking at him carefully. “Max, it’s all right, you’re with friends. Ok? You’re safe.” The others shuffled carefully forward at that. “Max?” Liz looked at him near to tears, obviously afraid to touch him feeling his fragility. “Liz?” Max asked hazily. His beautiful angel, his breath of heaven, his lifeline all in one appeared before him. He knew it was her beyond the shadow of any doubt. “Max,” She breathed, still hesitant to approach him, just content to look at him and know that he was safe. He sighed then and they were together at last and he drifted back to sleep and to sweet dreams.
******************
“What’s the status of Max Evans at the moment, Doctor?” General Hammond asked curiously, as the SG-1 team and Alex sat in the briefing room three hours later along with Doctor Frasier. The others had elected to stay with Max to keep an eye on him. “At the moment, he seems to be in stable condition. Aside from several broken ribs, a broken jaw, and at least two teeth that have been ground down, the damage to his vital organs seems to be healing at an accelerated rate.” “Yes, they have increased healing abilities, as well as hybridized immune systems.” Alex muttered. General Hammond looked at him somewhat reproachfully for the interruption but said nothing. Doctor Frasier looked at him, curiously. “How exactly do you know all this if you don’t mind my asking?” Alex opened his mouth to say something, only to be interrupted by Jack, “Oh, he’s an ancient, they know everything, about you know, everything,” he stated in his usual sarcastic manner. “I wouldn’t say that,” Alex said wryly. “Nor would I.” The others turned around startled at the deep voice, where a grim shadowy visage stood, cloaked in pure darkness appeared. “I was wondering when you would show up, Khiver.” Alex said casually, not bothering to turn around.
*************
“What’s taking them so long,” Isabel muttered putting her hand on Max’s shoulder as she and the others gathered around and tried not to think about where they were. The hospitals, the military it was all like their worst nightmares, except, it wasn’t. ‘Maybe we were wrong,’ she thought. ‘Maybe they aren’t the ones we should be afraid of.’ For the first time in her life Isabel Evans begin to feel less than wary. These people knew who and what they were and weren’t afraid of them, not like in the movies, but in reality, they were honorable. Sure they had got the odd glance going in here, but word got around (the base grapevine had taken care of that, soldiers being soldiers, are the one of the most profound gossiping forces around. Major Carter had once suggested they try to harness the power of gossip as faster than light communication system) they were treated with respect and courtesy. She looked into the faces of the General and even the odd airmen and as they looked back she realized with something of a shock that they looked back not with fear or mistrust but with curiosity. It was as she was thinking this that the sirens started going off.
**************
The grim specter stared down at Alex. “Hello, Alex.” “Hello Khiver.” Alex replied calmly turning to face Khiver. “Hey aren’t you going to introduce us?” Colonel O’Neil protested. “Your names are known to me human.” Khiver said, his voice echoing. Several Airmen ran into the room with weapons at the ready as the alarms sounded as security personal watching the monitors noted the intruder and the base was locked down. “Who the hell are you-“ General Hammond shouted over the racket as the airmen faced Khiver with their weapons drawn. Khiver simply laughed at this display and put his hand out, palm facing towards them and a blast of energy came within inches of the airmen before being stopped in midair. It was a hovering ball of blue flame burning the eyes of those that looked at it. “Dissipate!” Alex ordered and the ball did so with a bright bang and a flash of light. Everyone else blinked for a few moments with blinded eyes but Alex still remained staring stonily at Khiver. “Do you want to test your power against mine?” Khiver asked in an amused tone. “The time is not yet ready for that, you seek a confrontation before it is ready.” Alex replied. “Your time will come soon enough.” Khiver replied pointedly before disappearing. Everyone turned around and looked at Alex. “So that was Khiver, huh?” Jack asked finally. “Yes.” Alex replied, breathing hard now that Khiver was gone. He was visibly shaken and sweating, his face pale with strain. With some effort he pulled himself together. The others at the table stared. Alex attempted a feeble grin. “I guess a fight just wasn’t in the cards huh?” He said in what was supposed to be a joking tone, but instead came out rather strained.
*********
Max Evans awoke with a start staring with his good eye somewhat blurrily into the lights surrounding him. He turned is head and slightly to the side in an attempt to get a better view of his surroundings. He was underground, judging by the lack of windows, the sparse surroundings and décor. He forced down his fears. Liz was here, he could feel her, and he was going to protect her no matter what the cost. He was just about to start to get out of bed when a black haired woman came into the room and observed him stirring. “What are you doing?” She asked in a tone that only doctors concerned about their patients can manage. “Liz,” he grunted, trying to avoid moving his still mending jaw and broken ribs while sitting up. “Liz is doing fine. I’m Doctor Fraiser by the way and you aren’t going anywhere in your current condition. Lie back down please, Max.” Max weakly tried to sit back up only to be forced back down by Doctor Fraiser. “Max, please lie down.” She repeated as he continued to attempt to sit up. “Max!” Max jerked his head away revealing-, “Liz?” He asked, his mouth felt like it was filled with cotton and the medications were making him groggy. “Max, I’m so sorry about everything.” Liz exclaimed her eyes teary at the sight of Max’s bandaged wrapped body. “It’s going to be alright Liz,” he assured her, his good eye intent on hers. “They shouldn’t have done this to you, it’s all my fault-“ “No,” Max protested. “Liz you are everything to me, you were the only thing that kept me going in there. Please believe that.” “I wish I could, Max, but if hadn’t pretended to sleep with Kyle then none of this would have happened.” Liz said brokenly, trying to ignore the presence of the others in the room. Max sighed in confusion and tried to sit up only to be forced back down by the pain in his ribs. He grabbed her hand then and she gasped. Doctor Fraiser and the airmen watched silently as they connected. The flashes came then, with the emotions. As Max initiated the connection, he poured his love and support to her, she saw herself through him once again and she looked beautiful.
*********
Maria watched them from the doorway. With Alex’s return with the news of Tess’ vindication, she had wondered where things with her and Michael stood now. They had slept together, and at the moment summer had begun. Her Mom was probably worried sick, she thought. The sheriff would take care of her mother, she thought. Strangely, the thought didn’t bother her as she watched Max and Liz together. I wanted that, she thought. But it wasn’t fair to either of us. Michael loved her and she loved him. Granted they would argue for hours endlessly, but that was part of the fun. She sighed; she had finally realized in the end what she wanted and whom she wanted. She didn’t want someone like Max who would gaze at her endlessly and worship her; she wanted her spaceboy, as bizarre as it sounded. She sighed, then reconciling herself to dozens of spiky haired little children. Hopefully they would have their mother’s hair…”Penny for your thoughts?” A voice said from behind her. “Why did you have to leave us, Alex?” she asked without turning around. Alex sighed, looking at her intensely then sighing again, he said, “Quit trying to change the subject. You’ll have to tell him eventually, you know.” “I just wanted a part of him was that so wrong?” “That’s not for me to say. I don’t think that it was wrong of you. I probably would have done the same thing given the circumstances.” Maria looked at him with tears in her eyes. “But suppose he leaves me. God, Alex, my own father left me, what if he leaves me.” “I don’t think he will. He loves you Maria.” “Can’t you tell me for certain?" “To quote someone we both know and love, I’m not God Maria. I’m not even close. I wouldn’t tell you even if I could because you and Michael have to settle it yourselves.” “God, Alex I’ve missed you. I’m sorry we should never have taken you for granted like we did.” She said heart brokenly. “I went out of my way not to be noticed, Maria. That’s really not the same thing. I guess I didn’t want to be sucked into the alien abyss as much. I just wanted Isabel. But now, I don’t know if I love her enough to give her up.” “What do you mean?” Maria demanded a sudden terrible suspicion forming in her mind. “Nothing.” “Try again, Alex, you may not be able to come back is that what your saying?” “It’s a possibility, yes.” Alex said nervously, not liking the direction she was taking. ‘I’m not afraid of Khiver but the moment that Maria starts getting angry I’m terrified.’ He thought bemusedly. “Damn it, Alex, didn’t you see what happened to all of us once you left. Max went into total controller mode and Isabel could barely keep going. Liz was crusading to find out the real reason for your death saying you couldn’t kill yourself. We need you. You are our balance!” She started yelling at the last bit of her sentence. Maria was starting to get pissed and when Maria got pissed, Alex got going, in the other direction. “Look Maria, I really don’t think now’s a good time to discuss this-“ “Really, why is that, please, enlighten me? Is it because your afraid of what the others would say if they found out?” “Found out what?” Liz appeared in the doorway then, concerned about the rapidly increasing volume of the attack. “Liz,” Alex said nervously. “How’s Max?” “Asleep, now found out what?” “Apparently Alex, may not be sticking around for the long term.” “What?” “Look, its not that simple. There are other places that may need my attention. You’ll do fine without me-“ “No.” Liz said dangerously calm. “What?” “No, I’ve lost too much, Alex. I can’t lose you here. I can’t do this without you and Maria. You promised, best friends forever, all right. I’m holding you to that. Find a way.” Alex sighed, looking at her. “If I can I will. There is still so much I have to understand about this.” “You aren’t alone in this Alex.” Liz said looking at him. “Don’t ever think that you are.” "I know," Alex said smiling sadly at them before fading.

Chapter 6: More Than You Start With
“Impressive isn’t it?” O’Neill asked watching Michael as he gazed out
through the glass partition staring down at the StarGate. “The window, I
mean, not that ring thing that lets you travel hundreds of light years through time and space.” Michael’s lips twitched just slightly at that before continuing his perpetual scowling expression. “So, whatcha doin?” “Thinking,” Michael grunted. Max wasn’t capable of moving for the moment, still exhausted from his ordeal and so that left him in charge. The tactical situation seemed lousy for the moment, as the military had them in custody, there was no way for them to leave or escape if necessary. He was terrified for Maria. He had just found someone that he loved unlike any other, that scared the hell out him, and he was scared for her sake as well. Alex seemed to be everywhere and nowhere at once and Michael still wanted to get a straight answer out of him regarding their pasts. “And for what the future might hold.” He muttered to himself. “Is someone paging me?” Alex asked looking at Michael. O’Neill looked at Michael and then glanced at Alex. Both were looking at each other, Alex with a serious expression and Michael with a stony glare. “I’ll just go…do that thing, that I need to do.” O’Neill muttered and departed in the direction of the gateroom. “Where have you been?” Asked Michael. “Getting my batteries recharged. The Granolith is keeping me going at the moment and I need to get booster shots from time to time.” “Booster shots?” “Yes, for various reasons I need to remain anchored to this reality. The Granolith helps me do that as well as powering my gifts.” Michael raised a hand, “Hold on, I think we’re losing track of the issue here, and that is what the hell is going on?” “Could you be a bit more specific?” Alex asked mildly; seemingly unfazed by Michael’s tone. Michael resisted the urge to shake Alex until his dental work came loose. “Look, why’d the ancients pick you to become an, well,-” “Ancient? Alex suggested. “Yes,” Michael replied through gritted teeth. “Because I’m special.” Alex replied in his best Ralph-Wiggum-from-the-Simpsons voice. Michael looked like he was about to go into cardiac arrest for a moment, then let out a short bark of laughter. “Seriously, though, Alex continued, “When Tess killed me I thought it was the end. Well, for a while at least. But I was taught a lot of things when I reached the level where I am now and one of those things is that death is an end, but not always the end. Sometimes, people can become more than what they start with.” Alex suddenly seemed older somehow; his normally cheerful face becoming shadowed as he talked. “What happened to us, in our last life?” Michael asked. “You died, but you became something more than you started with.” Alex responded. “What about us, our families, our friends...” Michael asked, his voice trailing off. “Michael, Rath wasn’t you. The Antarians have nothing but disdain for humans. Ignorant primates, they called us, used by the Goa'uld and the elder races.” He sighed then, looking weary and fired up both at the same time. “They still don’t understand.” “What about our dupes?” Michael asked suddenly. “What?” “How is Zan still alive after getting hit by a truck?” “Oh, them. Zan healed himself and disappeared underground after getting hit by a truck. Takes a lot to kill one of you guys, you know. Believe me if one of you was dead than the others would know it.” “That’s it, he healed himself?” Michael said incredously “Well, admittedly the Granolith may have helped out a bit.” Alex said obviously a bit uncomfortable with the subject matter. “What about Lonnie and Rath.” Alex shifted from foot to foot even more nervously. “I persuaded them to help keep various parents from worrying, which they did. They’re doing some errands for me, for the moment.” Michael’s eyes narrowed visibly and almost audibly. “You mind telling me a little more about this situation with them?” “Well, admittedly, I may have promised a few things as well, you know goingbacktoantarwithusontherescuemission,” He finished in a rush. Michael paused. “The fact that they’re our evil twins, didn’t seem to bother you?!” He yelled. “We’re going to need all the help we can get Michael.” Alex said suddenly, turning to look at him rather quickly with an intensity that startled Michael. “I need all the help and support I can get, because frankly, I’m losing the battle. The Granolith can only keep me here for so long and when I’m gone Khiver will come knocking with a fleet of ships and he can literally take down the entire mountain without trying.” “He’s that powerful.” Michael stated, searching the other boy’s face. “More so. For the moment we are almost at an equal level, but his power is growing, and mine isn’t.” Alex said, and for a second the mask of calmness and intensity that Alex had displayed so far slipped and Alex looked scared, not for himself but for the others. “What about Mar- the others? Can’t we send them offworld?” “It doesn’t matter where you send them Michael. Khiver wants them dead, and at the moment it’s all I can do to stop them. He wants Isabel and it seems Nicholas wants Maria and Liz.” “What?! Why?” Michael cried, alarmed. “I don’t know, yet. All I know so far is that he wants them.” “You’re an ancient, do something!” Michael yelled almost panicked. He took a breath and calmed down slightly. There was something he was missing. The connection he and Maria shared was growing and it was getting less easy for him to stay in control of himself. ” Alex looked at him for a moment almost as if he knew exactly what was going on before saying, “Talk to Maria. I have to go.” “Wait, what about our past?” Michael asked, cursing himself for getting sidetracked in his effort to pry answers out of Alex. “It’s catching up to you.” Alex said before fading out.
*********
Lonnie smiled to herself as she entered Isabel’s room, Isabel’s parents were gone so she and Zan had free range of the house. She sighed, upon walking into Isabel’s room. Her twin seriously lacked any fun potential. ‘She so needs to loosen up,’ Lonnie thought to herself. “Bet she’s never even had a-.” She muttered to herself. “A what?” Alex said stepping through the doorway. “An orgasm.” She turned grinning. “Hey opie? How they hanging?” “Fine,” Alex said, a low blush on his face, given the subject of the conversation. Lonnie sauntered up to Alex in a way that struck him as curiously catlike, and he unconsciously stepped back a bit. “Where’s Zan?” Alex questioned quickly as she started moving a bit closer. Oh, he’s still in Max’s bed christening it with some blonde bitch.” “Pam Troy.” Alex muttered, messaging his temples with his fingers and wondering if ancients could get stress headaches. “Don’t worry, I’m watching him.” “I know,” Alex said. She looked at him still grinning. “You worry too much.” She said casually. “You need to have a bit more fun.” Still grinning she leaned forward and Alex tensed up as she leaned forward and grabbed his- “Lonnie!” He yelped jumping slightly as her hand massaged him in a very sensitive portion of his anatomy. She chuckled throatily, “Damn, opie, I gotta-“ It was then that Zan interrupted them both. “Hey opie,” He smiled, unnatural on his face, his spikey hair and goatee slickened with sweat that was coating the rest of his skin. Lonnie turned slightly her head downcast and her expression flickered with fear. It was a slight motion but Alex caught it and he began to get mad. He felt the power within him grow chaotic as the granolith responded to his need for more power. The intangible presence of peace and calm was still there, but now it was intensified with the unstoppable force of a desert storm. Zan, looked at Alex, with the unpleasant smirk on his face indicating that he knew the reasons for Alex’s change in manner and didn’t particularly care, in truth perhaps he welcomed it. Alex clenched his fists as Lonnie let out a slight whimper under her breath. “Where’s Pam Troy.” “She’s having fun riding her hand, Bitch is still gagging for it even after all this time, I banged her everywhere twice and she still can’t get enough. Why my loser double wants his bitch is beyond me. She told me a lot about you though.” He smiled with all the charm of a torture implement. “Behave yourself Zan, and you get back, don’t and I guarantee I can find a very nice cell for you someplace.” Alex said his voice firm. “Your parents are nice folks.” “What?” Alex demanded dangerously. “Be a shame if something tragic happened to them.” Zan said still grinning. He nodded to Lonnie who suddenly placed her other hand on Alex’s palm. Alex hardly noticed until the room suddenly started spinning. He looked down revealing a oddly shaped dagger stuck through his stomach and blood covered wound, fluid trickeling down from the horrific wound. “Don’t worry Opie, we’re gonna have some fun together.” Lonnie whispered in his ear as the pain hit him and he collapsed to his knees. “What did you do to me,” He whispered. “Just found something that would give us a little edge on you.” She said. “Hello again Vilandra. Where are they?” A small figure walked in through the door flanked by two massive fellows. Alex could barely breathe due to the pain. “I got something better for you.” Lonnie said. Grabbing Alex his hair she lifted his face up towards the figure. “Nicholas,” He whispered in shock as the face of the figure revealed itself.

Ye gods, please don't throw rocks at me people, I have been pounding out ten pages of BVTS and Roswell fanfic goodness that I will put on as soon as I finish with it. To be honest I have a few ideas in mind regarding future fics, but I'm not going to say anything to jinx it.
Bye for now,
