Prologue

The car jerked violently before swerving off the road toppling over to roll down the hill. His seatbelt snapped and he was thrown clear landing with a thud on the grassy sloping hillside while the car continued to roll downwards. When it hit the bottom it was still for a moment before it exploding in a shower of metal and fire. Max lay unconscious with his head resting on a fallen log and a trickle of blood on his forehead.
"Oh My God! Oh My God!" came the very panicky voice from above. A young girl about twenty two stood on the edge of the road peering down, she quickly whipped out her cell phone and called for an ambulance. After called for help she carefully slid down the slope till she was by his side
"My name's Maria. Can you hear me?" she clapped her hands in front of his face "Open your eyes!" his eyes fluttered "What's your name?"
"Ugh... L-Li" he whispered he went to sit up but Maria held him down
"Lee? Okay Lee try not to move just yet. You've been in an accident and you have to stay still until the paramedics come okay? You have to stay awake okay. Stay with me Lee" Max just stared up at the strange girl who kept calling him Lee. Was that his name?
"Who... are you?" he slurred
"I'm Maria. Do you know where you are?"
"No" he said as he slowly woke up to a better state of mind
"You're in Roswell. Your car... it had Roswell licenses plates on it. Do you remember how old you are?" she asked trying to keep him alert, she smiled with relief when she heard sirens coming closer
"No" he said
"Maybe you have a driver's license or something? I'll check your pockets for your wallet" she said and felt round but couldn't find it. She carefully checked his jacket but no luck. The paramedics slid down the hill and joined her
"Hi who do we have here?" asked the small dark haired blue eyed boy
"His name is Lee" said Maria, the boy smirked when he saw his step sister
"What are you doing here? Knowing you the accident was probably your fault"
"Shut up Kyle! I'm a traumatised bystander. You're not supposed to make wisecracks like that!"
"Sorry sis" he said as he began checking Max over "You have a bump to the head. Could be serious, no injuries to neck or back and... no broken bones"
"Are you done feeling me up? Can I get up now?" asked Max and Maria snickered. They helped him up and wrapped him in a blanket and helped him back up the hill to the waiting ambulance. He got in and they slammed the doors leaving him sitting in the back with Kyle's partner.

***

Liz buried her head in her hands as she cried, Isabel put her arm around her sister in law and tried to comfort her
"It's all my fault Izzy! I was so angry at him..." she said
"You had every right to be Liz, it wasn't your fault and it still isn't. You didn't know he was going to go missing" she said
"But I should have! I should have! Oh this is all Tess's fault! Max was never the one to cheat, we both know that but when I saw her there in his arms... it just hit home to me that she took something he'd promised to me"
"Shhh we'll find him Liz don't worry" she said as Diane came in after handing out posters
"Any calls?" she asked hopefully but Isabel shook her head with disappointment
"He'll turn up. This is Roswell for Godsake! Everyone knows everyone else!" Isabel pointed out as Liz grabbed another tissue to dry her eyes. He'd turn up, Isabel was sure I mean how could someone disappear in the smallest of small towns like Roswell?

Part One

Over the sea and far away
She's waiting like an iceberg
Waiting to change
But she's cold inside
She wants to be like the water

"Okay Lee I'm going to ask you a few simple questions and we'll see how we go from there alright?"
"What's wrong with me Doc? Why can't I remember?"
"Well that's what we're trying to find out" the doctor replied briefly glancing to the nurse next to him; her tag read Serina "When were you born?" Max thought about it but no answers came to him
"I can't remember"
"How old are you?" the doctor continued but again there was no memory of his age. He closed his eyes tight trying to remember something... anything
"Wait... Wait I know! I know this! Ugh! May 16th 1979" he said with a grin glad he had remembered something. Serina wrote it down quickly in case he forgot it again
"Where do you live?"
"Roswell. Apparently my car... it had Roswell license plates" he said Serina wrote that down too then leaned in to the doctor
"Just because he had Roswellian license plates doesn't mean he's from this city let alone state!" she pointed out and the doctor just nodded
"Do you remember your parents names? Are there any names that jump out at you?" he asked continuing with the questioning
"Yeah... my own. Lee... Lee Parker, I'm sure that's my name" he said Serina wrote that down then walked off to the main nurses reception to call social services and see if there was anyone missing a Lee Parker or anyone going by the last name of Parker. She gave the details in then glanced up at Lee, the doctor had left him alone and he just sat there rolling his thumbs. She went over and he looked up at her hopefully
"Do you have anywhere to go?" she asked and he just grinned and shook his head
"I can't remember where I live" he said in a jovial fashion
"You're taking this extremely well" she said and he just nodded
"It's like I forgot who I was before.... so I'm just dealing with it as it comes. I don't know how to react... it's all a little new to me" he told her and she blushed, pity was growing inside her and she could feel her heart opening
"I'll see what I can do about trying to find where you come from" she said and he smiled
"Thank you" she turned to walk away but he stopped her "Serina!"
"Yes?"
"Will I... Will I ever remember who I was? Before the accident? Will I get my memories back?"
"With-with most amnesia victims if they're lucky they get some of it back... but that's only if they're lucky" she said and he looked down
"What if... what if I did something I want to forgot?"
"What did you do?"
"I can't remember! All my instincts and gut feelings are telling me it was something very wrong that I shouldn't have done and it hurt someone I really cared about. Ugh God! I wish I could remember"
"You have a second chance. You should try make a new life for yourself Lee" said Serina finally before turning on her heel to walk off and follow up on any leads he'd given her between the time she looked after patients.

All the muscles tighten in her face
Buries her soul in one embrace
They're one and the same
Just like water

Everyone was here. Everyone. Isabel pulled her coat on and zipped it up before grabbing a armful of flyers. Michael looked stoic as he stood there wide eyed and worried
"Hey little brother it's going to be okay" she said and he just nodded without saying a word. Michael had been the second youngest out of all the Evans kids. Isabel was the oldest, then Zan, then Michael, then Max who was the baby of the family.
"Are we ready?" asked Liz. Isabel gave a snort and a small smile when she saw the petite woman standing there holding probably more flyers than anyone else. Max had dished out the worst to her and here she was still loving, still ready to look for him. She shook her head; when Max was born the whole family just adored him, everyone spoilt him then when he turned five he started... he started picking on people. He was always angry all the time, they had no idea what to do to help Max from his wicked ways. It continued on for two years until the Parkers moved to Roswell from California. The second Max laid eyes on their seven year old daughter he completely changed, he would find flowers for her and hold doors open for her and carry her books. He had never loved anyone more than Liz. They grew up and grew together, Liz finally fell for Max when he asked her to the prom. She had told him that she had the biggest crush on him since they met and he'd told her the same. Prom night came and they shared their innocence and after Graduation were married. That's when the trouble began to happen, Max started working with their father and he got colder and spent more time in the office; even Liz couldn't help him. She almost caught him having an affair in his office but after swearing it was over she began to trust him again and he totally blew her away. Liz had come home one night and found Max sandwiched between two blonde girls naked in bed; Courtney and Tess. She had left him that night, that was the night he'd disappeared and Liz blamed herself for it except the only think she was guilty of was being truly madly in love. He had hurt her when she found them and when she'd come running to her best friend, Isabel, his own sister nearly said that she should leave him; she was ready to tell her parents what he'd done to Liz. Liz was considered one of their own, and what Max did to her disappearance or not was unforgivable. Yet here Liz was ready to search for any shred of proof that her cheating husband was still alive and safe, in Isabel's eyes she wasn't sure if Liz was stupid or a truly doomed romantic.

The fire fades away
Most of everyday
Is full of tired excuses
But it's to hard to say
I wish it were simple
But we give up easily
You're close enough to see that
You're the other side of the world to me

"Lee! Lee! I found your father!" Serina rushed over. It had been four days since Lee gave her his details and it had been four long days with nothing happening. Not a word or clue to who he was or where he came from
"You're kidding? Where is he?" she asked
"Ohio. You're finally getting out of Santa Fe Hospital! He's coming to pick you up right now! I just called him and he's on his way"
"That's brilliant! I can't believe I can get to go home now!" he was tempted to pick her up and swing her around
"I know. Oh Lee you're really lucky" she said "The thing though... I found out that you went missing when you were seventeen. Everyone thought you'd run away, must be why you were in Roswell"
"I've been missing for five years?" he gasped "My parents must have been worried sick"
"It's over now Lee. You get to go home" she patted his shoulder and he smiled but there was sadness in his eyes
"I feel like I'm leaving something behind. Something important, maybe I made a life for myself here in Roswell? Maybe..."
"There are too many maybes, especially now you know the truth. Your family has been searching for you. They finally have the answers to the questions they couldn't stop asking"
"Yeah, you're right. God I can't believe I'm going to see my dad again, maybe when I'm home I'll start to remember things?" she shrugged and walked off leaving him to his thoughts.

On comes the panic light
Holding on with fingers and feelings alike
But the time has come
To move along

"Ring" she hissed at the phone through clenched teeth. Zan put his hand on his sister in law's shoulder but she shrugged him off "RING!" she shouted making everyone in the room jump
"Liz you should rest. You haven't slept in two days, not since we put up the flyers" suggested Zan
"I'm not going to rest until he's back here. He doesn't have the right to do what he did then leave like he has" she spat out then stood up "Y'know. Maybe there's something wrong with the phone?" she reached out to check it but Isabel stood up quickly snatching up the phone and pulled the cable out then threw it at the wall
"God Liz! What's the matter with you!" she screamed then Liz's face crumpled until she was crying and Isabel instantly regretted what she'd done "Liz... Liz I'm sorr-"
"No! Don't apologise! You're right! What's the matter with me? What's so wrong with me that Max would cheat on me with not one woman but two at the same time? And in our bed? I feel so guilty for wanting him back so I can punish him for what he's done and demand him to tell me why?"
"Liz he hurt you" Michael whispered, he hadn't spoken much since Max disappeared but usually when it did it was always volumes "You're only human to want those kind of answers. But doing this to yourself isn't right, you're not 'punishing' anyone. Not Courtney or Tess, you're just hurting yourself"
"How did you know who he was sleeping with? How did you find out?" asked Isabel a little curious
"You'll be amazed by the stuff you can learn when you're not the one talking" he said with a tight smile then looked down "Max is... just put it this way. It's been four days, the golden hour for missing persons is about twelve hours to a day. If Max wanted to be found he would have been by now... so this is what it's like to be the youngest in the family?" he said and Isabel slapped him
"Max is not dead. We will find him... but for now-"
"For now we need a new phone and Liz you need to go home and get some sleep-"
"I'm not sleeping in that bed" she replied quickly
"Fine you can stay with me" said Zan "Come on, I'll drive you" he walked out.
"I'm gonna find Max. Make no mistake about that" said Liz before following him. Isabel had a feeling that Liz probably would, dead or alive Liz would find Max.

The fire fades away
Can you help me
Can you let me go
And can you still love me
When you can't see me anymore
The fire fades away

Part Two

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
If there's nothing in it

Max sat nervously his knee shaking up and down while he waited. His father had just called the hospital from the airport and he said that he was on his way.
"Hey Lee. Are you okay?"
"Yeah, just a little nervous. My dad's going to be here soon" he explained and Serina just nodded
"Don't worry. Everything will be fine, he'll take one look at you and give you the biggest hug you've ever had and he'll take you home with him. It's been five years since you've been home, your parents must have missed you so much"
"I can't believe I ran away. It just seems like such a stupid thing to do, and yet I did it. God I hope he won't be angry at me for running away"
"It'll be fine. Don't worry! I have to go finish my rounds but I'll be back in a bit okay?" she smiled then walks off just as a tall middle aged man with greying black hair walks up to the counter
"Excuse me. I'm looking for Andrew Lee Parker, he's my son. I was told he was on this ward" when Max heard his name he stood up sliding off the bed; the man at the counter caught sight of Max staring at him and gasped. The boy looked a little taller than he come remember and his hair was lighter and his skin wasn't so pale and clammy looking anymore
"Andy?" whispered the man "Andy is that you?"
"Is... is that my name? Are you my... my father?" he stammers "Dad?"
"Oh My God it's you! I can't believe it's been-it's been five years! You've changed so much but. You still have your mother's eyes, God Andy I've missed you so much" he pulled Max into a hug and Max rested his head on his dad's shoulder and smiled
"I'm ready to go home now dad" he whispered then closed his eyes. Andy's dad, Brian, signed all the papers then they headed out to the rental car parked outside the hospital.
"There's been so many things I've been wanting to ask you, wanting to know. I had just about given up trying to find you, you're mom and I put posters up and nagged the police everyday but they said they couldn't do anything because you were a run away. God son why did you do it? Why did you run away?"
"I don't remember. I was in a car accident, the only thing I could remember was my age and my name and even then it wasn't my full name. I wish... I wish I knew to tell you, I am so sorry that I put you through so much. Can you ever forgive me dad?"
"I forgave you a long time ago Andy. I just wanted you home safe and sound" Brian replied.

And you'll ask yourself:
"Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?"

"NO!" she screamed "Look again!"
"Liz..." Isabel reached out for her arm but Liz shook her sister in law off
"Check again! There has to be some record! There has to be a record of him here! We've been to every hospital and doctor's sugery in the city! There has to be a record of him! My husband has been missing for three weeks now! He hasn't been using his card and he didn't take any clothes. Now I know something must have happened to him so please just-just check again" she rambled on as the tears started to fall. She bowed her head and Isabel carefully took hold of Liz's arms and pulled her away
"Come on Liz. Let's go home" she suggested, Liz turned and buried her head in Isabel's shoulder and sobbed madly.
Isabel led her sister in law out to the car and got her all fastened in. By the time she was in the passenger seat Liz was staring out the window not bothering to acknowledge her; she just sighed and started the car heading home. As they sped down the road they passed a recovery crew trying to pull up what was left of a car
"Isabel stop!" Liz cried, Isabel slammed her foot down on the brakes and before the car stopped Liz jumped out and raced over to where the crew was working "MAX!" she screamed, someone grabbed her stopping her from running down the hill to the wreckage. She stopped struggling when the car turned and part of the license plate came into view "No. NOOOO!" she began wriggling against the man who held her "Max! No! Let me go! That's my husband's car!"
"If your husband was in that car when it went down there then I doubt that he's going to hear you" Isabel came over to see why Liz had got out then she spotted the car
"Oh My God!" she froze staring at the frame burnt and blackened before moving on autopilot. She moved past the crew so fast that no one could stop her, she slid down the hill halfway down loosing her footing so she slid down to the bottom. She got up and carefully limped her way over the glass was all gone, parts of it was embedded in the seats and the driver's side was crushed beyond belief. No one could have survived the explosion. Isabel suddenly felt sick and she turned and threw up, she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand and climbed back up the hill
"Liz it would be best if we go home and tell the others that... that... that Michael was right" she couldn't bring herself to say it. Liz's eyes filled up with tears and her legs gave out there and then and she just cried as everyone watched.

Way out in the water, see it swimming.
I was swimming in the Carribean
Animals were hiding behind the rock
Except for little fish
When they told me east is west, trying to talk to me, coy koi

Max yawned sleepily as they drove along the darkend country lanes, he and his dad had been talking non stop about his life and what his parents did. His dad Brian, lived in the country and ran a farm away from the cities. His mom Katie was a secretary and she commuted to the nearest town. Andy had been in the local High School when he ran away and he'd had lots of friends he couldn't wait to meet again.
"Andy. Andy son don't fall asleep. We're almost home now" said Brian and Max smiled "Anything look familiar?"
"Dad it's pitch black out there! I have no idea how you're sticking to the roads!" he said, he felt a little nervous about being in a car; the last one he was in exploded and that was during the day time.
"I learnt these roads thirty years ago when my dad took me out in the family car and tried to teach me to drive. I always know my way home"
"I wish I was the same" Max mumbled, something about all this wasn't quite right; he wasn't sure if it was because he couldn't remember or that Brian wasn't his father?
"Katie's missed you more than I have. It tore her world up when you went. I was in the field when the hospital called, she answered and by the time I got home I thought something had happened to her. She was sitting on the floor, in the pitch black darkness sobbing still holding the telephone to her ear"
"But I'm home now right. She won't be upset anymore will she?"
"Andy... she would worshipped the ground you walk on just because you've come home. I never thought it was possible for someone to miss something so much that they pretty much stopped living" Max wasn't quite sure what to say to that
"So" he began trying to change the subject "Did I... did I help out on the farm when I wasn't at school?"
"Aye you were a good boy, the only kid in a five mile radius who would get up before the farmers just to make sure the cows had breakfast" Brian pulled into a drive way and cut the engine. They sat there for a moment before Max opened the door
"I want to see my mom" he explained and got out. There was a single porch light on and a woman was standing in the doorway, she had curly waving blondish grey hair and big green eyes, she was wringing her hands looking nervous
"Where is he Brian?" she asked staring at Max, Max took a step forward and she gasped when she realised that it wasn't Brian she was talking to "Andrew!" she cried rushing over to pull him into a hug "Oh My GOD Andrew! My baby!"
"It's okay mom. I'm home now" he said and she looked up the frowned and pulled away
"No" she took a few slow steps back "His eyes are too dark. My baby had Hazel eyes! He's too tall! He's not right! That's not my son!" she cried "You're not my son!"

Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Where is my mind?
Way out in the water, see it swimming

Part Three

Will you stay here by my side
Will you still mind shaking bones
Will you hold me when it's time to go?

They all stood nervous and a little clumsy at the sudden unsureness hanging in the air. He looked to Brian, his father, for some reasurance but none came. He cleared his throat to say something but Brian sighed and he lost his courage
"Look, it's dark out. It's late and we're all tired... why don't we just go inside and get some sleep? Maybe things will be clearer in the morning?" he suggested and Katie sighed deeply
"Come on, you can have the guest room" she said
"No Katie. He has his own room, he can sleep there" Brian corrected her and she glared at him before going inside slamming the door. Max felt guilty all of a sudden but Brian put his arm around his son's shoulders and led him into the house
"C'mon son. Let's get some rest" he led him into the house and Katie was nowhere in sight. Brian left him in front of the door to his bedroom and he suddenly felt nervous again, like he was intruding on something that had to lay to rest. He opened the door and found his room like he should have remembered it but didn't, there was an electric guitar sitting on a chair and a shirt on the floor and his bed was unmade. He took a step inside expecting to remember something but he didn't. He moved further into the room and nothing came to him. Max sat down on the bed and pulled his shoes off... he looked over his shoulder and saw a flash of a larger bed and someone waiting for him on it... he shook his head confused then undressed to his shorts and climbed into the bed pulling the blanket up to his chin. He was home... he thought as he drifted off to sleep.

He was dancing, dancing with a girl and he was wearing red. He had never seen anyone so beautiful in his life; they were dancing in a darkened room with little red heart lights rollings over them he leaned in to kiss her and the lights seemed to explode while they kissed and he felt like he never had before

He jerked up covered in sweat, panting and breathing hard trying to figure out what it was that invaded his mind, it was all still fresh in his head like he had just been kissing her; it was so real, so real.
"Liz!" he gasped when he realised he was alone, confusion came in waves and he reached out to touch the other side of the bed but it was only a single bed and he was still alone she wasn't here. He heard a thud and then footsteps, he tossed back the blanket and went in search of her
"Liz where are you?" he called as the door opened, the light was switched on and he held his hand up against the sudden burn of the light and saw it was Katie
"Are you okay? Did you have a bad dream?" she asked a little worried and a little curious at this man's wellbeing, she was sure he wasn't her son but that didn't mean he wasn't; five years had been a long time and he did look an awful lot like Andy
"Mom... did I know anyone called Liz?" he asked but she shook her head he sighed and flopped down on the bed and buried his head in his hands
"Are you remembering something?" she asked, she had been truly affected when he called her mom. She went over and sat down next to him
"Yes. No... I don't know... I think... I think she was... I think we were married" he said and Katie gasped "Oh God! She is! What if she was in that car with me? What if she got out? What if she's hurt? Did we have children? Are they wondering where I am?" he began to pace and Katie just watched him till he stopped and looked up at her "Mom? Will you help me find out? Please? Help me find Liz" she thought about it for a moment then nodded
"Okay, okay Andy. I'll help you find her" she said then patted his bed, he smiled sheepishly then got in. She tucked him in and brushed a stray hair from his head
"Night mom. I love you" he said before rolling over to go back to sleep. She quickly left the room and stood in the hall trying to stifle her cries.

Will you be my brave goodbye?
Will you be my brave goodbye?
Will you...

She lay in bed staring at the wall unmoving and cold even though she was under two thick blankets. She rolled over and her eyes landed on a small photograph of their wedding day
"What have you done to me Max Evans?" she whispered. She was still wearing the black clothes from the funeral and she was beginning to feel sick. She hadn't eaten anything since Max was officially declared dead and they held the memorial service for him. She groaned tossing back the blankets but never made it to the bathroom before throwing up and the doorbell rang. She lifted her head and went to investigate who was at the door. She opened the door slightly and saw a fiery strawberry blonde girl standing there
"Hi..." she said and Liz noticed she was holding one of the flyers they'd put out
"This isn't funny" croaked Liz "In fact it's sick. My husband's dead and you come parading his picture in front of me?"
"What do you mean he's dead? Did something happen to him in hospital? It was only a bump on the head" mumbled the girl
"What are you talking about?" Liz demanded opening the door wider
"Your husband Lee, I was there when his car went over. He fell free and I called an ambulance for him, God that was one of the scariest nights of my life..." she shook her head
"What are you talking about? My husband's name is Max"
"The car accident off 380 right? I was driving behind him, he swerved in front of me like he was in a hurry then lost control and went through the guard rail, he fell clear and the car exploded at the bottom. Dark hair, honey coloured eyes right? We are talking about the same person aren't we?" asked Maria and Liz nodded slowly her mouth open in shock
"He-he's alive?"
"Yeah, I live in Santa Fe. I was on my way home from College and then the accident happens. He was taken to Santa Fe General and then I went home after making sure he was okay. I was in Roswell visiting my mom when I saw this" she held the missing person flyer up "He couldn't remember who he was. He said his name was Lee Parker, that's all he could remember and his birthday May 16th" Liz gasped and started crying
"That's... that my birthday" she whispered "Oh God he's alive!"

Will you stay here and calm my fears?
Will you hold me and share these tears?
Can we take our memories this time

Brian watched Katie and Andy talking at the kitchen table and looking over maps and phone books searching for any clue to who his wife was. When he found out that his son had gotten married while he was away he was overjoyed, Andy described Liz and she sounded wonderful... he could even be a grandfather and he couldn't help the biggest grin that covered his face when he worked the fields.
"Here! I found something... this is the only Liz listed in Roswell" said Katie passing the book to Max, he found where she was pointing and read it aloud
"Liz... Evans" he got a flash of them standing together and he slipped a ring on her finger "That's it! That's her! Liz Evans was her name! Look! There's more listings for Evans as well!"
"Well what are you waiting for?" shouted Katie "Call her and tell her you're alright!" he picked up the phone and dialled the number but it was engaged. He hung up after several rings then looked to him mom
"It was busy"
"Well try one of the other numbers!" she shouted with a grin and he nodded a little flustered as he tried another number this time he got a reply
"Hello?" came the sleepy mans voice
"Hello is this Alezander Evans?" he asked and he could hear rustling in the background
"Yeah who is this? Michael? Is that you pulling phone pranks again coz if it is I'm gonna kick your sorry ass!"
"No it's not... Michael. Um are you Liz Evan's brother?"
"Brother in law. Why? Who is this?" he demanded
"I think... I think Liz is... I think she might be my wife" he confessed feeling a little unsure about how it may sound
"M-Max? Oh God! Jeezus! Look pal this isn't funny! My brother died in a car accident! This is low... if you call again I'm gonna call the cops!"
"Wait... please. I just... I need to know if Liz is okay? She wasn't in that car with me was she?"
"No she wasn't in the car. Look who are you?" asked Zan
"I'm Andy Parker" he replied looking to his mom who was looking on with a mixture of worry and hope "Look you said you're Liz's brother in law? Did you marry her sister or something?"
"Liz is an only child. She married my brother Max and if you were him you wouldn't be calling yourself Andy. Now stop calling and don't call Liz, she's been through enough loosing her husband" then Zan hung up. Andy looked at his mom unsure of how to tell her. It was clear as crystal to him and it was starting to break his heart. He wasn't Andy Parker...

Will you be my brave goodbye
Will you be my brave goodbye
Will you...

No sooner than Zan had hung up that the phone rang again. He snarled and picked it up
"Look pal! We can trace the call! If you keep calling I'm going to the cops!" he hised
"Zan?" he paused when he heard Liz
"Oh sorry Liz. Some nut just called me saying he thought he was Max"
"WHAT! What did he say? Did he say where he was? Oh My God!"
"Liz" he said trying to get a word in edge ways "Liz? Liz! What's going on?"
"Max is alive! Yeah he was in the car accident but there was a witness who saw him fall clear of the car. She called and ambulance and he was taken to Santa Fe General, that's why there was no record of him in any of the Roswell hospitals! She said that Max called himself Lee Parker and he hurt his head so he couldn't remember anything except his name and my birthday. He thought my birthday was his!" she cried and Zan suddenly realised that it was Max who had been calling and he'd hung up on him!
"Call everyone, I'm coming over"
"No Zan you call everyone. I'm going to Santa Fe to find out what happened to my husband" and with that she hung up on him.

Will you be my brave goodbye
Will you be my brave goodbye
Will you be my brave goodbye
Will you be my brave goodbye
Will you
Will you...

Kittens: I know very little about missing persons and hospitals, and police background checks. I'm only writing what I know or believe, besides the basic premise of this is that there is a big mix up. Sheer coinky dink and all that. I'm sorry if it you were put off reading it because of my lack of knowledge.

Part Three

Zan paced with the phone firmly pressed to his ear; God if he'd never hung up! If Liz hadn't have called he wouldn't be getting the run around now! He was on hold with the phone company as they traced all calls he'd received this morning.
"Hello? Mr Evans. Here's the only other number that called you, it's an out of state number" said the woman and she gave him the number
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" he cried then hung up and dialled the number she had given him. It was ringing! There was an answer "Hello? Hello?!" he cried
"Who is this?" came a very female reply
"Is Max there... not I mean Andy. He said his name was Andy? Is he there? Can I talk to him?" he asked all in a hurry
"Who are you?"
"I'm Zan. He called me early this morning"
"Oh my Gosh! I will go and get him now!" there was rustling then silence then something crashed before someone spoke again
"Hello? Hello? Zan?" he said into the phone
"OMG Max! Liz, she called me after you did and said that there'd been a mix up at the hospital and you went home with the wrong people. God mom and dad have been worried sick!"
"What do you mean mistake? What kind of mistake? How could they mistake something important like this?"
"I don't know but they did. Liz is going to the hospital you were in to try and find out what happened. Where are you Max? I'm coming to get you. I'll bring you home"
"I'm... I'm in Ohio" he said finally "Just... let me say goodbye to my... to Andy's parents before... ok?"
"Sure. I'll be there as soon as I can ok?" he said then hung up and left the house.

***

He watched a dirt trail come up the road as he sat on the porch wearing what he had been wearing when he came here. His dad looked grim, but then again he wasn't really his dad and that was probably why. Katie looked near tears, she had been searching for her son for so long and when she finally got him it wasn't really him! She had hold of his hand in a deathly tight grip as the car came closer and closer.
A man got out and they both gasped when they saw the likeness between Zan and their so-called Andy. He was wearing suit pants and a peach sorbet coloured shirt with a loose tie and his hair slicked back
"Max, it's really you!" he gasped then rushed over pulling Max up into a hug. He held out his fist and Max tapped his fist against his brother's on instinct then looked up surprised by what he'd done.
"You really are my brother aren't you" he said, more of a statement than a question. Zan pulled out his wallet and showed him a small picture, three messy mud covered kids standing together holding a trophy looking proud
"Is that us?" he whispered looking at the photograph "How many brothers do I have?"
"Two, me and Michael"
"So that's us three together?" he asked and Zan chuckled
"No. That's you, me and Isabel!" he said "She's the one with blonde hair, she wanted to have hair so much like you she cut it herself and mom was furious when she found out! Made Isabel wear..."
"The little lamb ears for a week" whispered Max then looked up "Zan?" Zan pulled him into another hug then ushered him to the car "Wait!" Max cried then hurried back to Katie and Brian pulling them into a hug
"I'll help you find him. I promise!" he whispered into Katie's ear before Zan pulled him away to the car. He got in and watched Brian pull Katie close as they faded from view.

***

Liz sat nervously in the airport with Isabel, she tapped her spoon against the cup until Isabel reached out and put her hand over Liz's
"Would you stop that? You're driving me mad!" she hissed and Liz blushed
"Sorry. I'm going to go to the bathroom again" she said getting up and before Isabel could say anything she rushed off. Isabel smirked when she saw Zan coming towards her table, she stood up and smirked
"Is it all ready?" she asked and he nodded
"I left him near the toilets, he should bump into her soon. Come on let's go see if we can find them" he said to his sister.
Liz walked along then stopped so suddenly that someone behind her walked into her. Her heart stopped for a moment before she remembered where she was and who she was looking at. A swirl of emotion swelled up inside her and she did all she could holding herself back from running to him. He was looking round looking lost, he looked like he did back when she first met him. She carefully took a step towards him then another and she caught his eye, he seemed to pause looking at her a little unsure then smiled
"Excuse me" he asked politely "Can you help me? I seem to have lost my brother. Are you from Roswell?"
"Y-yes" she stuttered a smile forming on her face, this wasn't the Max she had grown to know and if it was Max then he really couldn't remember himself
"I'm Max... Parker" he said then looked away like he seemed unsure
"Beth. Beth Guerin" she lied holding out her hand for him to shake
"So you said you're from Roswell? Do you know the Evans?" he asked and she wrinkled her nose
"Oh horrible people! Especially that youngest one Max! Downright awful man!"
"Oh?" he raised a brow wanting to know more information this gossipy but strangely beautiful woman could offer. From the second he saw her he had the urge to hold her tight in his arms and kiss her senseless
"Apparently his wife caught him in bed with two women! Imagine that!" Liz had no idea what she was doing, she wanted to test Max; if he really couldn't remember what he'd done then he wasn't pretending just to get away with it
"You're right" he said looking pale, guilt seemed to fill him and the early feelings he had of doing something bad were back. This was what he'd done, he'd betrayed his own wife! "It is horrid, what a cruel vile man. What happened to him?"
"Car accident, people say it killed him" she said in a very neutral tone, yet she was screaming inside, I know you remember Max now prove it!
"I think I best go find my brother now. It was nice talking to you Beth" he said then nodded his head before walking off.
Isabel and Zan who had been watching from the around the corner hidden by a potted plant turned and stared at each other before looking back to the scene unfolding before them. Liz raced after him
"Maxwell!" she cried "Maxwell Evans! It's me Liz!" she cried. Max paused halfway down the step and several people crashed into him, he turned slowly and looked up at her standing there staring down at him tears were almost streaming down her face. He slowly climbed the steps till he was by her side
"Liz?" he whispered reaching out to stroke her cheek, he saw a flash of doing the very same thing on prom night when they were dancing "It's you. It's really you... when I had the accident all I could think about... the only thing I remembered was you Liz. Liz I'm sorry..." he trailed off and she grabbed his arm when she saw he was shaking.

Flash

Max carrying the two heavy work boxes into the house followed by Tess and Courtney. They would be working on this case they had been given, Tess was willing to help because she wanted to get back into his father's good books and Courtney wanted to get a good recommendation.
"Max could I use the bathroom?" asked Courtney, he looked up and nodded. He saw the heated look she gave Tess before leaving the room.

Flash

Tess yawned sleepily and moved to sit next to him. He shot up off the couch when he felt her hand on his leg
"Look Tess, I know you have a crush on me but I'm a married man. I know I don't seem happy with Liz but I am. The only thing that gets me down is you, you and the pressure that comes with work" he snapped then cast his eyes upstairs to where Courtney was. She'd been in the bathroom for over an hour! He half expected her to climb out the window to escape the workload! "I'm going to see if she's okay!"
"No Max. I'm sorry, you're right. I'll lay off now, Liz is a lucky woman" she said with a glint in her eye that looked positively menacing "I'll go see where Courtney is" she said then climbed the stairs.

Flash

Tess had been gone for fifteen minutes when he decided to find out what they were doing. He went up and found the bathroom empty, he heard something from his bedroom and opened the door to see Tess laying on his bed naked and arousing herself
"What the hell do you think you're doing!" he demanded there was a bang and Courtney was behind him; she'd shut the door and was walking towards him predatorily. She grabbed his favourite white shirt and ripped it apart and pushed him back towards the bed, he was about to get up when Tess grabbed him and held him down whilst kissing him. Courtney straddled him and tried to undo his trousers then the door opened and Liz was standing there.

Flash

After Liz had left he'd rushed down to go after her but she was gone, she would never speak to him again! He knew what that had looked like, it would be for her to forgive him after this. Defeated he got in his car and headed out along 380. Liz had taken one look at him lying there and left him, the look of betrayal in her eyes was too much. All his life he'd never found anyone who understood him as much as she did, knowing the pain he caused her was unbearable, he reached the right stretch of road and let go of the steering wheel, the car jerked for a moment then he turned the wheel sending the car towards the guard rail
"Liz" he whispered right before he went over

Flash

"Oh my God! I remember! I remember that night... God Liz! They set me up! It was a set up and when I realised what they'd done and I saw how I'd hurt you... I knew you would never forgive me, even for letting them get me like that and seeing all the pain in your eyes that I'd caused... when we got married I swore to myself that I would never hurt you and that night... that night I did so much! I got into my car and drove out, the last thing I said before I hit the guard rail was your name... I could forget everything, my life and what I had done but I could never forget you Liz never" he cupped her cheek and she seemed so uncertain
"You should find Zan. I need some time to think about all this" she said then hurried off before he could stop her...

Part Five

"So this is my home?" asked Max looking round the nicely furnished living room. Zan nodded, after the whole thing with Liz at the airport Isabel had taken her home to her parents house and Zan had took Max home "It's just so... me" he said then looked at the mantle where several pictures sat "Us. This was ours"
"It still can be Max. That is if you don't screw it up again" Zan replied and Max put the photo down
"Am I... am I like I used to be? Was I a bad person?"
"You were yes. You were a very bad person, when you were little you would pick on us, you would break our toys and steal stuff. That stopped when you first laid eyes on Liz and you managed to screw that up too" Max looked down feeling guilty
"I wish I could remember all the bad things I did. So I could be remorseful for them... and Liz. I've really messed things up and I can barely remember how!" he said
"I never understood how mom and all the others could forgive you Max" Zan continued "You were the apple of dad's eye when you came to work for him. You had things so easy you were handed everything on a plate whereas the rest of us had to work for our livings. I remember the last thing you stole from me" he said "I'm not angry anymore, just sad that you got to have the one thing that really mattered to me"
"I'm sorry Zan" Max apologised not even knowing what he was being sorry for
"No you're not!" Zan shouted angrily "You stole the one thing that mattered to me then you destroyed her! I wouldn't have treated her like you did! She would have been loved if she had been with me" his tone softened and he flopped down on the couch "I really loved her Max, that's what hurt the most. That you could take her from me"
"I was never yours" Zan jumped up with surprise to see Liz standing there
"Sure we dated but you were too old for me. You was in college when I was working my way through high school... blaming Max about my decision to end things with you is not a very decent thing to do. Especially when he can't remember the non-existant things you say. Go home Zan, I have to talk with my husband" Zan's face darkened and he glared at Max
"I would have loved you Liz" he said
"You say it like Max didn't love me as well as you could"
"That's right Liz. Do you really think that Max cares about you? He cheated on you over and over again" Max was saying nothing because he didn't want to say anything in case this was all true
"No he didn't Zan. You never did stop to wonder why Max was such an angry child did you? Max wanted so much to make you proud, he thought the world of you Zan even though you made it clear that you hated him"
"That's not true. Max was just a cruel evil little bastard" Zan replied
"When he was eight he took some of your clothes and put them on, he even tried to brush his hair the same way you did. Took your mom nearly all night to get the gel out, but when you saw him standing there with a big grin on his face you shouted at him then ripped the clothes up" Max was standing timidly unsure of what to do about the confrontation between his wife and brother. Zan shook his head and left trying to avoid anymore truths coming out about him.
They stood there for the longest time just staring at each other after Zan left
"So" Max began unsure of how to really start talking
"Max... a year ago I came to your office and found you with Tess, he was all over you like butter on toast. I walked in just as things appeared to start... you told me that it was a set up and she'd come in trying it on with you. I believed you and I let it go but I lost a little bit of trust in you that day. Then that night... I came home and found you in bed with Courtney and Tess from your dad's office... I couldn't believe you would do something like that to me"
"But I didn't. I... we were working on the Hutton case and Courtney asked to use the bathroom. She went upstairs and didn't come back down, I was going to see if she was okay but Tess insisted that she do it. She didn't come back down either and I went to check on them, the bathroom was empty and I heard something from our room. I went in and found Tess on our bed she was..." he scowled trailing off "Courtney was behind me and she shut the door and grabbed at my shirt. They were forcing themselves on me then you..." he closed his eyes tight "I wish I could just erase that night from my mind. That's one memory I don't want to have, because that's the only time I truly hurt you. I wish I could take it back and undo what happened"
"But you can't. We can't back, only forward Max. I want to start over with you" she said as she sat down on the couch and patted the space next to her for him to sit down. He sat down and she smiled "I want us to start over from scratch. You know, go on dates and all that"
"I'd like that Liz, I would be able to make some new memories" he slowly reached out for her hand and she watched him. She linked fingers with him and smiled "But I don't want to be a lawyer anymore"
"Max, are you sure? Law was your life"
"Yes it was and look where it got me. I got mean again didn't I? And I spent less time with you and I can't remember a single thing about being a lawyer that puts a crimp in the whole thing doesn't it?" she nodded with a grin "I went to go back to college and do something to help people, I want to spend more time with you. I don't want it to be like it was before, I want to make it different this time, I want to make it good" she nodded still smiling as tears filled her eyes
"You really are my Max. The Max I fell in love with... you've been missing for a long time, even before the accident" she pulled him close and kissed him then laid her head on his shoulder
"I love you Liz" he whispered. He would make it better this time, he was going to make some new memories and it would be good. Nothing was going to ruin starting over.

Part Six

The coffee shop was warm and inviting as they sat together sipping out of large cups
"So Max what do you do?"
"I'm not really doing anything at the moment but I hope to start over in my career path. Maybe something to help people. What about you?"
"I work at the local high school, I teach Science"
"You love science" he said like he was remembering and she just nodded
"It's always been a passion of mine and I get to teach it to the world. Though they don't have the same enthusiasm as me" she chuckled and he nodded.
"This is so weird!" he said after a beat "I mean you know tonnes of stuff about me and me pretending to know who I am isn't really helping anything" he pointed out
"I'm sorry" she replied "Okay what did you want to know?"
"What's my favourite food? Was I clumsy as a kid? What music do I listen to?" he lowered his voice and leaned closer biting his lip nervously "What am I like in bed?" she couldn't help but blush at the last one
"Blue moon burger with orbit rings and Tabasco. You weren't really clumsy but you did get into a lot of fights. You listen to Counting Crows when you're feeling sad and..."
"I Shall Believe was our wedding song" he blurted out
"You remember that?" she asked a little surprised and he nodded
"And in bed... you were always... you loved me. Put my feelings and ugh enjoyment above your own. You loved watching me... you know..." she was blushing bright red. He had a brief flash of her arching up underneath him moaning out. He closed his eyes and tried to regain composure
"Because I had brought you to that, I loved seeing you so... happy" he looked away because the situation was beginning to feel awkward "How long were we married?"
"We eloped when we were nineteen so about eleven years"
"And... all this time we never tried for children?" he asked she looked down and he felt he said something wrong "What?"
"We did have... we had a son. Alexander. When he was six he caught menegitis and never recovered..."
"Oh God Liz... Liz I..." he reached out pulling her close
"He'd be eight this year" she said and he closed his eyes pressing his forehead against hers. He didn't see her reach down and rub her stomach...

***

Max sat at the dinner table next to Michael, he was opposite Isabel and Michael was opposite Zan. His parents sat at either end of the table
"I'm so glad that we're all here together" Diane said reaching out to put her hand over Max's
"Yeah, we are lucky" mumbled Zan as he pushed his food around his plate with his fork. Phillip just ignored him and turned his attention back to his youngest son
"So Max? When do you think you'll be able to come back to work?"
"I'm not" he said and several forks clattered including Zan and Isabel's
"Excuse me?" hissed Phillip and Max looked around, everyone was looking at him like he'd let a lion out of a cage
"I don't remember any of my college training or anything about being a lawyer so I'm going to start over. I want to help people"
"You were helping people!" Phillip pointed out
"I'm going back to college to do something more rewarding. Besides all the stress and working at the law firm got me where I am now and I'm not too happy about it. I can hardly remember anything about the people I'm sitting with and I know that my job really nearly ended my marriage. I just want to put things right," he said looking at Zan "I want to put a lot of things right and start over"
"Are you sure this is what you want to do?" asked Diane and Phillip scowled
"You can't be encouraging him Diane! He's going to be in charge of the family business!"
"No dad, the family isn't just you, me and mom. You have other kids"
"They have no interest in law,"
"You never asked us" Michael pointed out "Well since we're all making shocking revelations tonight maybe I should go next" Isabel smirked knowing where this was going
"I doubt anything you could say could shock me" said Phillip burying his head in his right hand
"I'm gay" he blurted out and Phillip looked up sharply
"I was wrong!" he said then got up from the table leaving the room. Diane looked around the room then sighed and got up following Phillip
"Congrats Michael. I always wondered when you were going to come out" said Isabel
"You knew?" Max and Zan asked at the same time. She just nodded then Max stood up and pulled Michael into a hug
"You're so cool for a big brother" he whispered into his ear. Zan came over and joined in
"I always knew you were a special guy bro!" he said as the hug got bigger. Isabel came over and wrapped her arms around her three brothers
"Ah my guys! I'm glad I still have all of you here!" Diane came back into the room and saw all her children in a group hug with big grins on their faces. She couldn't help feel a swell of pride well up inside her; she hoped nothing went wrong to upset her family.

***

"Is this it?" Max whispered against the cool morning silence and Liz nodded. He laid the wreath of flowers down on the grass then knelt down. He ran his hand over the cool granite and down over the inscription as tears came to his eyes. Liz knelt down next to him putting a hand on his shoulder "Liz" he gasped
"It's okay I'm here" she said reaching out for his hand. He was openly crying now
"I can't remember him" he cried desperately "I can't remember our son! Oh God! I don't..." he bowed his head and she stroked his hair
"We have photos and videos at home. We should get back and I'll show you Alexander"
"I don't want to leave him" he replied quietly "Not yet" she nodded and they sat there together for ten minutes before climbing to their feet and returning home.
Liz took their coats and put them away in the cupboard then took Max's hand and led him up the stairs to a room with the blue door. She pushed it open and in the dim light he saw his son's room; most of the toys had been packed away and a few boxes sat around but other than that it still looked the same
"After he passed away we didn't really have the heart to do anything to his room. It was only about last year that we did pack things up, we both needed to let go and move on" she explained as he walked around the room taking everything in "Max... there's something I need to tell you" but he didn't hear her. Every step he took it was like he was remembering more and more, he could picture Alexander sitting on his bed playing with a toy aeroplane that they'd made together.
"Why didn't anyone ever tell me I had a son?" he asked talking mainly to himself
"Because you don't Max" replied Liz "Not anymore. He died"
"I hate that I am this way. I hate that I can't remember anything about my life and who my family was! I want to remember everything about my wife and my son! Why can't I have that instead of brief flashbacks?" he hissed feeling very frustrated with himself
"Max, I know this may sound nasty but I'm glad you're like this. You're starting over and doing things better this time, yes you can't remember some things but I can show you. I can show you how good it used to be with Alexander and how better it can be..." she grabbed his hand and put it over her tummy "Dad!" all the colour drained from his face and he looked down
"You're... we're... I'm... we're gonna... OMG! We're pregnant!" he couldn't believe it. He picked her up and swung her around his arms, when he stopped spinning the room didn't as he stared up into her face. She kissed him softly and he kissed back. They broke their passionate kiss a few moments later and just rested their foreheads against each other
"I should make a crib or something"
"You already did Max. That what you said when you found out I was pregnant with Alex. It's in the garage" she told him and he just nodded
"If it's a boy... can his middle name be Alex?" he asked and she agreed

Part Seven

"I didn't think that it would be like this!"
"What?!"
"What?"
"What?!"
"It's too loud!"
"What?" Max grabbed his younger brother and pulled him to a quieter area of the bar to talk
"I didn't think it would be this loud Michael"
"It's a club. It's s'pose to be loud!" Michael shot back then tugged at his shirt nervously before slicking back his hair
"So when's he getting here?"
"He said he'd be here at nine. God... I haven't seen him in three days!"
"Does he know you told us all?"
"No" he said looking down "Liam isn't really the type of guy who seeks out parental approval"
"So tell me about him. I want to know if this guy is worthy for my big brother"
"He was on his way to San Francisco when he stopped in Roswell, he ran out of money so he got a job and worked himself up saving enough money. He got a small place and it took him a while to make enough to get a place in Frisco but then he met me..." Michael bit his lip ringing his hands together. Max grabbed Michael's hands
"Calm down! You're making me nervous! He must be something special if he's got you all this riled up"
"Yeah" he said grinning then looked around "Where's Isabel?" Max looked around when he heard a loud girlish squeal. They both saw Isabel sandwiched between two men, one had his hands firmly planted on her boobs and the other was grinding against her; she looked in her element!
"Oh My God!" gasped Michael and Max nodded
"Michael?" came a shy soft voice, Michael yelped before jumping at the guy a little shorter than him
"Liam! Liam! Liam! You made it!" he said excited then pulled him into a kiss. Max, deciding which was worse to see, chose to look at them kiss instead of Isabel having her way on the dance floor. The first guy still had hold of her breast but now his hands were under her shirt. Max was unfortunate to catch a glimpse of it
"Oh God! Dude!" he closed his eyes and looked away
"Liam... I want you to meet my baby brother Max and my... uh... that's my sister. She's the filling in the sandwich over there" Michael pointed to Isabel and Liam smirked
"You look familiar" Max said looking at Liam
"I just have one of those faces" Liam said looking a little nervous
"No... I swear I've definitely seen you somewhere before... you remind me of... no" he shook his head "It's not possible. He died five years ago"
"What are you rambling on about?"
"Andy. He looks like Andy, you know the guy they thought I was?"
"You look nothing like me" Liam blurted then clapped his hand over his mouth
"You're Andy?" gasped Max
"Liam?" whispered Michael suddenly feeling lied to "Who are you?"
"I'm leaving"
"No! Liam! You just got here!" Michael grabbed his arm "Don't go. I've been waiting to see you all week"
"He's not your brother is he? Is he a private detective? Did my parents send him?"
"You said that your parents kicked you out. Why would they send a PI if they didn't want you?"
"I'm not a PI by the way. I am Michael's brother... I have amnesia after a car accident. I thought I was you. You're mom and dad are worried sick, they want you home so much"
"I can't go home. Not like this! This would kill them! They'd never want me back as... a fucking fag!" he yanked his arm away from Michael and stormed off. Michael glowered at Max angrily
"Thanks a lot Max!" he hissed before walking off as well. Max went over and managed to untangle Isabel from the manwich
"What's up?"
"Michael's stormed off. Liam, Michael's secret boyfriend is actually Andy. The guy I thought I was, I remembered who he was and called him on it and he left. Michael's pissed at me"
"I'm not surprised! Next time we meet Michael's beau let me do the talking"
"Talking or do you just want to mawl the guy?" he quipped feeling surly
"Not fair!"
"Oh it is Isabel! Instead of meeting Liam you had a meeting of your own with that guys crotch!" he snapped then sighed "I'm going to find Michael"
Max found Michael in his jeep sobbing wildly in the back seat, Max climbed in and put his hand on Michael's shoulder and jumped when Michael turned sharply and buried his head against Max's shoulder and sniffled before starting to sob again
"I'm sorry Michael... I'm sorry I ruined tonight for you" he apologised for what he'd done and he meant it
"It's not about that Max. We've known each other for near enough three years and all this time he lied to me! He didn't trust me with his true self!"
"No Michael... that's not it... some people- they just they react differently to certain things. His parents are lovely people but they live in the middle of a farming community located a little way away from the middle of nowhere a town over from Hick Central. He was in High school when he ran away, he must have been under an awful lot of pressure and was worried about what his parents thought of him. My guess is instead of risking them rejecting him he just left them anyway to avoid loosing them but he did Michael, he lost them and instead of crying in the back seat of my car you should go after him and let him know that it doesn't matter because you love him right?" he asked and Michael nodded "And because you love him he's still the same person you always knew Andy or Liam it doesn't matter. He needs you now more than ever and you have to make the choice whether to move past this and help him or walk away" Michael nodded a faint smile on his face
"Would you drive me there? Please? I want to tell him that I don't care" he whispered quietly and Max climbed over into the front and started the engine "Thanks Max" Max smiled glancing in the rear view mirror... he wondered idly if the old Max would have said all those things. He had no way of knowing as he pulled out of the parking space.

Epilogue

"Dear Journal,

It's been almost a year since I was in that car accident that wiped my slate clean. I still don't remember anything and I don't care, though I'd never tell anyone. From what I've been told about who I was I'm glad that I don't remember, I'm alive and I'm happy right here and now. I'm back at college studying hard to become a teacher and I'm doing first aid in my spare time. I want to be able to help people in their time of need.

Liz had the baby about four months ago. She was a month along when I found out and now we have a beautiful baby girl. I feel guilty that I wanted a boy and it haunted me for a few days until Liz called me on it. She said I had been crying more than the baby had! I told her and she said that I did have a son... we talked all night and we both shed a lot of tears. I enjoy being a father... again... and looking after Lilith is the best thing ever because there's this tiny person, this little creature that could break any second that's depending on you to keep them alive and safe. Sometimes I hate myself for almost walking away from this a year ago, but that's why I lost my memory and I have to live with it and cope with all the people who know me yet I know nothing of them.

Liam and Michael... well that was a big shock, that night when we found out about Liam was a big night for them. I'm glad that I helped Michael see sense about things. They made everything official that night and now Liam's like a brother in law. Things have been going so well for them that last week Liam went home to his parents... and he took Michael with them to introduce him. He said he was going to explain and hope to God that they understood. Not only did they understand but they had a massive party in one of the recently harvested fields and invited everyone. They were surprised to see me standing there with Liz but I told them who Michael was and they couldn't believe it. What an amazing coincidence that was... they were lucky. Even luckier than some people are who loose children...."
"Max! Hey are you writing in that thing again!" chuckled Maria and I smirked "You're missing the party!"
"Maria and Liz became fast friends. I missed them meeting but now they're practically insperable! So Maria is here at the big party and so is Kyle, the guy saved my life and I owe him big time. Zan hasn't taken his eyes off Maria all night and Kyle has been flirting with Isabel like no tomorrow. I think I might have to do some more matchmaking!" Liz grabbed the journal off him before he could write anything else
"Max! Stop scrawling in your journal and come dance with me and Lilith. All you do is write nowadays!"
"That's because if I forget I want to have something that tells me about every moment. Every smile... every dance we share together Liz. I nearly lost you once... I don't think I could live without you again" he replied and she nodded tearing up. Diane came over and took Lilith from Liz
"Let me spend some time with my Grand Daughter, you two go off and enjoy yourselves!"
"Okay mom" Liz drawled rolling her eyes but smirking; Max took her hand and led her to the dance floor just as a song came on. The second it came on Max had a flashback of dancing on their wedding night, it was one of the few memories he did have from before the accident
"This was our song" he whispered and she gasped
"Do you remember?" she asked calmly but he shook his head
"I remembered it before I came back to you. No matter how much of my head gets damaged I still remember you Liz, that's what helped me find you. I can always find my way back to you Liz because you're my home... when Kyle and Maria found me it was your name on the tip of my tongue" she rested her head against his shoulder and sighed
"That's impossible. You're doctor said that you couldn't have possibly remembered anything about your life after hitting your head. He said the damage was instant and your long term memory was gone... there was no way you could have remembered me!" she whispered then stood up just as the song drew to a close. They stared into each other's eyes
"But I did. I love you Liz, you're the reason I believe in anything, you're the reason I'm the happiest guy in the world. I love you and..." he pulled out a little box and knelt down "I don't remember much of our wedding or how I ever proposed to you... Liz Evans, would you do the honour of being my wife... again?"
"YES!"

***

"Hey sweetie, what are you reading?"
"I don't know, I just found it here in the trunk while I was looking for the lanterns"
"Let me see" she held out her hand and Catie handed her the little leather bound book "Oh... I know what this is! This is my father's journal! He was forever writing in it"
"I only caught the end of it when he was at this party in some field"
"The Welcome Wagon Party Bash! My mom used to tell me all about this! I was there but I was only a baby at the time!
"The baby Lilith was you Grandma?" asked Catie and Lilith nodded
"I can't believe this was put away up here" Lilith rubbed the dust off the front cover "My father Max, he lost his memory and nearly lost me and my mom"
"What happened?" asked Catie almost fearful "Did he get his memory back?" Lilith shook her head
"No, he never did. He never remembered anything from before the accident"
"Well what happened to your father? Did him and Great Grandma get married again?"
"Yes, they did. And you know what?"
"What?"
"They lived happily ever after" she replied then pointed into the corner "There's the lanterns. Get them and let's go down so we can put them up for the party" Catie nodded and got the lanterns then helped her Grandma down the stairs. There was a big binner that said 'Dreamer Believer Party' Lilith couldn't help but smile as Catie, her granddaughter helped her kids with the little things. Her parents had got their happy ever after and she had too!

The End...

Was it a good ending?
