Part 21

Liz was at her locker after school when he leaned against the locker next to her.

"Hey Liz do you want to go grab a coke or something at the Crashdown?"
"Uh actually Max, I have to meet someone there."
"Ok. Let me walk you there."
"You are really worried about me aren't you?"
"Yeah. Liz, I really think Sean is going to try something again."
"Ok. You can walk with me."
"So who is it you are going to meet?"
"My old babysitter."
"Oh."
"Kimberly, baby sat me from the time I was seven until I was eight. Then she stopped and I haven't seen her since."
"Do you know why?"
"I think it has something to do with my stepfather. It was late and raining that night so he told her he would take her home."
"How late was it?"
"Close to midnight. I was awake in bed. I knew better then to let Richard know I was still awake. I don't know for sure but I believe something happened during the drive to Kimberly's house."
"Just going from your experience with him do think he might have raped her?"
"Yes. Back then I didn't know what rape was. Hell I didn't even know what sex was."
"Liz, if things were different, would you uh......"
"Max, if I wasn't so fucked up right now you are the kind of guy I could see myself dating. But I am not anywhere near there right now. One day I hope to be there."

Liz smiled and took Max's hand as they walked out of school together.

Kimberly looked up when the bell rang signaling someone entering the Crashdown. It had been seven years and it wasn't the little girl she remembered, but a young woman that entered. But she would know her anywhere. But she was surprised that there was a young man who came in with her. She looked over at the counter where Ms. Kent was keeping an eye on Beth. She watched as Liz said something to the guy and he took her bag from her and sat in the booth in front of the one Kimberly was in. He seemed to be keeping a close eye on Liz. Liz slid into the booth across from her.

"It's been a long time Kim." Said Liz
"Yeah it has Liz. I am sorry about your mom."
"Thanks. Why are you here Kim?"
"I feel like what happened to you is my fault."
"How do you know what happened to me?"
"I read in the paper that Richard Carter had been arrested for abusing his stepdaughter, your name wasn't printed. But I knew it was you."
"So that doesn't explain why you are here or why you think that bastard's actions are your fault."
"Do you remember the last time I babysat?"
"Yeah. I had fun that night."
"So did I. You and Serena were my favorite kids to babysit. Even if you two got into trouble from time to time. It was worse when Maria and Alex were with you though."
"Yeah. Want to get to the point?"
"Ok well your mom and Richard got home a little before midnight. I knew you weren't asleep. But you were quiet so it was no big deal. It was raining that night, really hard so Richard told me he would drive me home."
"He raped you didn't he?"
"Yes. He pulled over two blocks from my house and forced me into the back of his van and raped me. I have a younger brother and sister. He told me if I said anything he would kill them. I know I should have gone to the police. But I didn't want to risk them being hurt so I said nothing."
"Kim, what happened to me isn't your fault. No one is to blame but Richard."
"How can you be so forgiving?"
"Kim, since I was removed from that monster's care I have spent a lot of time in therapy. My friends that I pushed away came back and have been a big help."
"You seem to have at least one new friend since I left."
"Oh uh that is Max." Said Liz with a blush.
"You like him. He knows everything?"
"Yes he knows everything. He has been nothing but kind. He understands that I can't give him more than friendship right now. What about you?"
"I don't have a guy in my life. I just can't let them that close."
"Kim have you ever had any kind of therapy?"
"Some but I other reasons for not letting a man close."

Liz followed her glance to the counter where a little girl was eating ice cream under the watchful eye of Sarah Kent.

"My daughter."
"He got you pregnant?"
"Yes."
"You kept her?"
"Liz, she is an innocent. Just because it was a messed up way she came into my life I couldn't kill her."
"I don't know if I could have done that either. But that choice was taken from me. The night he beat me for the last time he kicked me so hard I lost the baby I didn't even know I was carrying."
"Oh Liz! I am so sorry."

Kim pulled Liz into a hug and just held the younger girl. Max who had been listening felt tears fall down his face.

I'm really glad to read that Liz is being so honest with Max. Telling him that she could see herself dating him if things had been different, but that she's not ready. And also telling him that he's one of the kindest people she knows. Max needs to know that he's doing things right, so he won't give up on her and (god forbid) abandon her.

Good meeting between Kimberley and Liz. Maybe they can build some kind of relationship on top of that meeting.

I'm so glad that Max is there for Liz. I'm glad Liz told Max she needs time and Max is very understanding. So finally the truth comes out about the last night Kim babysit Liz. I'm glad Kim told Liz everything. And I think it was good that Liz doesn't blame Kim for what happened to her. So Kim has a daughter from that bastard Richard. I'm glad that Max and Miss Kent are there for Liz and Kim. And I agree with Max about Sean attacking Liz again. I hope Max, Isabel, Alex, Serena, Kyle, Maria, Michael, Miss Kent and Kyle's father will be able to protect Liz from Sean, Tess and Mr. Harding.

Jo Liz wants Max to know that she does like him. That she wants him in her life. Max knows better then to abandon her just because all she can give him is friendship when he would like so much more from her. It was a good meeting between Liz and Kimberly.

L-J-L 76 Max understands that due to what happened to her Liz won't be able to give him more than friendship. He will take whatever she can give him. Yes the truth is out about what happened to Kimberly that night years ago. Yes Richard is the DNA donor for Kim's daughter. All those close to Liz know that Sean is still a danger to Liz and will do whatever they have to keep her safe.




Part 22

Liz watched as Kimberly left with her little girl. She understood why Kimberly couldn't babysit her after what happened. The hard part was coming up next week. It was when Liz would have to go before the grand jury to testify. As she stared out the window she felt a strong but gentle arm wrap around her shoulders. She turned to see Max standing next to her. To her surprise Liz felt totally safe with Max's arm around her.

"You OK Liz?" Asked Max
"Yeah."
"Have you talked to your therapist about the baby you lost?"
"A little. I don't know how I feel about it. Max, I didn't know about the baby until I had already lost it. All I know is I wouldn't of had an abortion. I don't know if I would have kept it. But I wouldn't of killed an innocent life."
"You really are one very special girl Liz Parker."

Sarah walked over to them smiling.

"Liz, I have to say I am happy that you really seem to be healing." Said Sarah
"What do you mean Sarah?" Asked Liz
"You seem very comfortable with Max's arm around you." Said Sarah

Liz bit her lip as Max pulled his arm away.

"I don't know what it is. But for some reason Max makes me feel safe." Said Liz
"I make you feel safe?" Asked Max
"Yeah. I mean, I know I am not ready for more than friendship. But unlike most guys you don't scare me. I only feel this way with Alex. Kyle Valenti isn't bad but I still can't be alone with him like Max or Alex." Said Liz
"Liz, I don't know what you are feeling. But I do know this young man brings a smile to your face. That you seem happier than I have seen you in a very long time." Said Sarah
"I am happy for the first time in a long time Sarah. I am still scared to testify but I know I have to do it. If I don't then he will win, and he will hurt someone else." Said Liz
"Liz, you know I will stand by you no matter what." Said Max
"Thank you."

Sean watched Liz from across the street. He was going to make Evans pay for getting in the way of him taking what was rightfully his. He had every right to fuck that slut. Max walked Liz home from the Crashdown. She was quiet the whole way. He had to wonder what was going on in her head. He was happy that he made her feel safe. But he knew that all she could only give him friendship.

"Liz, I know all we can be is friends. But I want you know that I have feelings for you."
"I would have to be blind not to see that. I need more time. But I want you to know that you are one of the kindest people I have ever met. My since of trust was broken. So it is very hard for me to give it. But I want you to know. No I need you to know that I am not scared of you. That I know you will never hurt me."

Max smiled and took Liz's hand and brought it to his lips giving it a kiss. Liz smiled and didn't pull away from him.

"Thanks for walking me home Max."
"You're welcome Liz."
"Max, I want to know that you are the first person other then the ones I am currently living with I have let touch me. But I am still not going to be able to be more than friends for a while."
"Liz, I understand that. You are this beautiful, smart young woman and I feel honored that you are willing to just let me be part of your life."
"Thanks. See you at school?"
"Yeah. Bye Liz."

Max headed for home and Liz went into the house.
