"Looks like she's pretty happy," Max says to me as he finally breaks his gaze from Liz to put his arm around me.
"Mmmhmm, she does," I reply. I try for a smile, and almost make it, but I'm still trying to figure out what this recent discovery means, for me, for him... for us. If he really likes Liz that much then why is he still here with me?
Michael suggests that we all take our seats and then picks the one at the near end of the table where our group has gathered. Maria sits down next to him. Max pulls out a chair for me on the other side of the table towards the center and then sits down to my right.
I thank him and open the menu, but I'm not really reading it. I mean, don't get me wrong, I'm very happy and excited for Liz and this wonderful surprise for her birthday, but it just makes me think, you know? Maybe I'll have better luck on a full stomach, so I mentally shake my head, and look down at the menu to see what looks good.
The waiter comes in to take our drink orders and put chips and salsa on the table. A restaurant only qualifies as good if it serves Root Beer, and luckily this is just such a restaurant, so I order mine, Max gets a cherry coke and we all dig in to help ourselves to some chips while we peruse the menus.
I didn't know where everyone is sitting and I don't know if Max is sitting anywhere near Liz, so that's why it's vague. And if I moved ahead too much or something, let me know.

I couldn't find any mention of the names of Liz's siblings, no. I guess that's still up to you.

As I head for my seat with Tess, one of Liz's friends seems to be heading for a chair nearby and I end up sitting between her and Tess. I'm sure she knows us from the webcam, but I only have physical descriptions to go by. Still, I think I can guess who this one is.
"Kels?" I ask as the drinks arrive.
"That's right. And you're Max," she says with a smile.
"Yeah. I'm glad you made it all right. You had me worried for a while," I say. Then turning a bit, I add. "I'm sure you know this is Tess. Tess, this is Liz's friend, Kels."
She gives a sideways grin. "Well, it all works out in the end. Nice to meet you both," she says.
*Max*

okay, hope I get this right with the sitting arrangements 
ALEX
I pull out a chair for Liz when we reach the table and am about to sit down when I notice Isabel on the other side of me. I'm tempted to ignore her so her *date* can help her (not that I'm bitter or anything) but then decide against it since it would be pretty unpolite.
After both girls are set I sit down myself (noone holding the chair for me, of course) and look around the table. Kyle is sitting opposite of Isabel (lucky dog, can stare at her), Tess is opposite of me, between Kyle and Max who is opposite Liz.
Looking past Liz, I spot a woman who might be Mrs. Parker, with her husband next to her.
"Looks like the surprise worked out fine." I tell Isabel and everyone else who is within earshot I guess. "Or did she mention any suspicions to you?"

“I don’t think she knew anything about it. I know I had no idea what was going on,” I state, smiling. I have to admit that I’m pretty impressed with Liz’s surprise and I’m so happy since now she won’t feel so homesick. It was a really nice of Max to do that for her, maybe slightly too nice, I just mean that it seems like a lot of effect to go to for someone you’ve only known for a week.
Sandwich between Michael and Alex, I fiddle with my fork. Seeing Liz with her family and close friends is making me feel slightly homesick. I miss my father more then I care to admit and this is the longest time I’ve ever been away from my girlfriends since I’ve known them.

I keep up my end of the conversation, mostly answering their questions about how I’m doing and how things are going. And as glad as I am to see them, I keep getting drawn to the introduction conversation between Max and Kels.
“I’m glad you made it all right. You had me worried for a while,” Max says. It draws my attention more because it is unexpected and puzzling than anything else. What are they talking about? Had they spoken to each other before meeting just now? That doesn’t make any sense. If they had spoken that meant that Max knew about this. If the surprise was something scheduled by the show, how would Max have known? Michael surely didn’t know.

I wasn't paying much attention to the conversation on the other side of the table, but apparently Liz was hearing us just fine. She catches my comment to Kels and jumps in, asking how Alex knew about the surprise.
Busted, I think, although I hadn't actually made a decision about whether I would tell her about how the surprise had come together.
Alex answers, turning me into a costumed superhero as he does so. It was a bit of complicated planning, but it wasn't exactly a superheroic deed. I'd managed to find her home phone number and her sister had given me Kel's number and she supplied the rest. Since I had been assigned the job of securing a restaurant, that part was easy -- it was just a question of keeping it all secret as I collected responses and supplied directions and such...
I feel my ears getting warm under Liz's attention and I have a feeling I'm blushing already. "It wasn't that incredible," I tell her. "I just wanted you to have your family for your birthday. It seemed like the right thing to do." I finish with a self-concious shrug.

I lean over to try and hear what Kyle is asking me through the din of the others' conversations. "Um, say that again?"
"I said, So, did you help a lot with this too?"
"Oh, no. I was in the dark about it as much as you were," I pause, then add, "but it's a very nice surprise isn't it."I finish with a small smile.
Kyle nods his head as vocal agreement is less than practical at the moment.
I need to hear someone else's opinion on this matter who isn't Alex or Max, so I whisper to Kyle, "So, what do you think about all this?"
