Now though Alex is one of my closest friends the situation calls for tact and diplomacy and may be a few white lies.

"Well Isabel is the same age as us.Tess and she have been friends for sometime now.She is from an aristocratic family but not a very high up one,they lost most of their power in the previous century."

Okay I am lying so smoothly that I am starting to scare myself.

"Alex she really needs help.Her husband is a monster and she's been through enough and she's a lovely person.As long as we are careful,no one will know she is hiding on Euralgon,no one will suspect it."

I don't like this. As long as we are careful ... I can already see her husband coming over to Euralgon, demanding where his wife is. But she really seems to be in a difficult situation.

"What am I supposed to tell my father then? He's already wired up enough with the two guards being here that Prince Zan sent, he surely will want to know who my guest is."

I really don't like this.

I sigh impatiently,Alex is being stubborn,I know it.

"Oh COME ON Alex!" that must have come across rudely but I don't care right now

"Make something up and it's not like there is only one palace on Euralgon,where you can keep her and even if you kept her in that one it's so huge your father wouldn't even know she was there."

I pause,trying to come up with something that will convince him,"Do it out of the goodness of your heart.Please Alex! You know I don't ask for stupid favours.Say that she is my cousin or something and needs time away to heal from mental and physical scars and Euralgon is the best place for that."

"She'll be there either tomorrow or latest by day after.I will let you know the exact timing once I get the details myself."

"Isabel is tall,may be three-four inches shorter than you and with long blonde hair all the way down to her waist and has brown eyes.I'll let her know that you will be there to meet her.Thanks Alex!"

Wow, I get a whole day to arrange the damn thing? How gracious!

Okay, I know I'm being an ass here and that the woman really needs help but ... I'd like to know I'm not taking someone in who's dangerous or will have dangerous people after her.

Sourly, I look down at the papers in front of me, certain that they are the reason for my foul mood.

"Have to go now, Kyle. Tell me the details as soon as you think you can. Bye."

Guess I have to start finding a place for a hiding wife then. Just great!

I grin at Max when Elizabeth asks him what the Prince is like.Max hates talking about himself or describing himself so this should be fun to listen to.Just to add fuel to fire I add,"Actually Princess,Max here can give you a better picture than me.They were great friends when we grew up together.You see we both were chosen to his his personal guards at birth,our father's being King Xan's personal guards.It's like a hereditary post.Max and Prince Xan get along famously."

Now that Max has come back may be I should go check on Lady Maria and may be try and be nice and not such a complete idiot.I suppose she was just being friendly and had no intent on being nosy.Clearing my throat to stop the staring contest between Max and ELizabeth I say with an amused tone,"I think I will go check on Lady Maria and then I'll be right back.Excuse me,your highness." I courtesy and leave the room heading for Lady Maria's quarters

Reaching her door I knock but see that it is ajar and the doctor,or at least whom I presume to be the doctor is examining her ankle,"May I come in milady?"

I roll my eyes...man what a grump!

Anyway,at least I have secured a place for Isabel to go to and since Euralgon is generally the peacemaker in our VATER system I doubt Kivar will suspect she is there.

Tess will be pleased when I speak to her in the morning.

Now what do I do. Telepatically I tell Michael, "You know I'm going to kick your arse right!"

I smile as I sit down with Liz. "King Xan... wow.... I uh... I don't know what to tell you. Michael was... well he was kinda exaggerating. Is there anything pacific you want to know?" I ask.

I am surprised to see Michael standing at my door when I hear a voice asking to come in. Then it occurs to me that Liz must have sent him with a message or something. I'm about to reply for him to come in when the doctor moves my ankle in a particularly painful way and I cry out. "Ow! That hurts," I tell him, trying to bite back the pain. "Yes, Michael, come on in."

The doctor pulls out a bottle of pills and hands them to me. "Here, these are for the pain. It is a minor sprain but you probably shouldn't put any weight on it for the next day. If it starts to swell up, keep it elevated and ice on it every once in a while but don't leave the ice on for longer than 20 minutes at a time. You should start trying to hobble around on it after that day of resting it so that it doesn't stay swollen up. Do you think you'll need some crutches to get around on?"

I sigh. Great, a whole day off my ankle. What am I supposed to do during that day? "Yes, I suppose so. I don't want to be completely dependent on everyone else."
