Ok guys this next part is pretty short. I have had some writers block but I seem to be having a breakthrough. You will be happy to know that the next couple of parts after this one will be what the dreamers have been waiting for.

Stronger Together
Part 36

Michael sat in stunned silence. A million thoughts were running through his head, a million questions. He had a mother, Kyle’s mother. He and Kyle were almost brothers, twins. Then the emotion hit him. Why? Why didn’t she keep him? Why did he end up with Hank?

Kristiana sat and watched as the son who had been taken from her so many years ago processed the information that he indeed had a mother. That day should have been one of the happiest of her life. Instead it turned into a nightmare.

“Why didn’t you keep me?” Michael said breaking the silence that had settled between them.

“Oh Michael I wanted to. You have to believe that but it was out of my control.”

“You could have run with me. When we were alone.” He said trying to hide the emotion in his voice.

“I tried. I mustered every ounce of energy I had. Some how I was able to make it down the hall but then he saw me and stopped me.” She said tears streaming down her face.

“Who?” He asked.

“My Father.”

“Chrissy what are you doing?” He demanded.

“I’m taking my baby and leaving here. You can’t stop me.” She said trying to push passed him.

“You’re not being rational. He is not your son. He belongs with the other three.” He said.

Again she tried to push pass him. She was still nine months pregnant and had just had surgery but her adrenaline and her love for her son were giving her the strength to go. She managed to make it to the front of the office before she collapsed. Her father was just a few feet behind her and caught her and placed her in a chair.

In excruciating pain and weak from the drugs and surgery she was unable to resist as her father pried the baby from her hands.

Instantly the baby began to scream. Tears ran down her face. She could not move. There was nothing she could do to save her baby, to help quiet his screams.

“I’m sorry.” Her father said as he took the screaming infant back to the lab.

“I’ll never forgive you.” She said before she passed out.

By the time I woke up again they had taken you, put you back in the pod. All I had was this picture. She said handing him a worn old photograph. Sarah took it before my father put you back.

Michael took the photo. Suddenly he got a flash.

**************Flash********************

Kristiana is walking in the desert. She is very pregnant. She is crying and holding the picture in his hand.
“You searched for me?” He said.

“Yes. I didn’t know where to go but something always led me to the desert. Even after a few years had passed and I realized it was unlikely I would ever find you, the desert still called to me. Every year on your birthday I would go out in the desert. The first year was the hardest. I was inconsolable and had no one to talk to. The next few years I took Kyle and we had a picnic and even sang Happy Birthday. He thought it was a big game but he never questioned why we did it. It was as if he knew. We did that until I had to leave.”

“Why did you leave? I was found alone in the desert. You must have realized it was me.” He said trying to hide his emotion and not doing a very good job. All the feelings of abandonment that had been with him for all these years started to break through.

“I knew the moment Jim told me about the little boy from the desert that it was you. Don’t you remember I came to see you.” She said wiping away a tear that was rolling down her cheek.

Michael looked up as if a fog was lifting from his head.

“The football. You brought me a stuffed football.” He said as he remembered.

“Yes. I came to see you. I wanted to make the arrangements to take you home.” She said.

“I recognized you then also.” He said as the memories began to become clearer in his mind.

“You came right to me. The social worker was amazed because you hadn’t said or looked at anyone directly.” She said as she remembered how it had felt to see him again on that day. She had planned to tell Jim everything and to raise both her sons together.

“What happened? Why didn’t you take me with you?” He said in a low whisper.

“I was going to. I even told Kyle that I was bringing him a surprise but…”

“Then you abandoned both of us.” Michael said.

“Not because I wanted to. I never would have left my boys. If I had any other choice.” She said new tears building as waves of emotion ran through her body.

“I went home that day to tell Jim everything. I was tired of the secrets. I wanted my boys together and I didn’t care what anyone else thought.”

“I went back to the house. I planned on making a big dinner and telling Jim everything. When I got there my brother Paul was waiting for me.”

“The one who got to stay in Boston?” Michael said vaguely remembering her mentioning him earlier.

“Yes. My father had a stroke a few months after Kyle turned one. My brother became our family’s Antarian representative. He came to warn me that there had been a mole in the alliance and that the skins knew that I had carried one of the royal four. I told him that I didn’t care and that I was going to raise you as my own.” She said.

“So why didn’t you?” He asked.

“Paul told me by doing that I was putting both you and Kyle in danger. He said once they found me they would kill me and take you and Kyle. They would experiment on the two of you until they figured out which one of you was from the pods and get rid of the other one. Then he showed me…”

“What?” Michael said trying to speak past the lump in his throat.

“What they had done to other children they thought were the royal four.” She said feeling sick as the images fluttered through her mind.

“I couldn’t let that happen to my sons. God only knows what they would have done to you if they had found you. So I left and to make sure that they never found me here on earth my brother arranged for me to be sent to Antar as an alliance ambassador. My brother erased all signs of the person known as Christine Kingston. It was as if I never existed. I didn’t want to leave here but I knew that if I stayed they might find me and connect me to you or come after Kyle.”

Michael felt sick. He didn’t even want to know what she had seen. It had been bad enough that she had chosen to leave a life she loved, people she loved. He didn’t want to know because if he knew he would blame himself because they were looking for him.

“I have to go.” He said suddenly as he grabbed his keys and headed for the door. He didn’t want to think about any of this. So much had happened to innocent people because the beings on his former planet thought they should play God, because they created him.

“Michael wait…” She began to say but Michael just opened the door and walked out.

As she watched him ride away the tears that had been threatening to engulf her all night finally began to fall. It was done. She had told her son what had happened and she only hoped that he could forgive her.

Stronger together
Part 37

Liz balanced a tray of tea in one hand and slowly pulled Maria’s door closed behind her. Michael had gone out hours earlier and had not returned and Maria was a total mess. Liz had spent the last 2 hours with her best friend trying to reassure her that Michael was fine and that he just needed to blow off steam. Logically Maria knew this was true but of course in true Maria fashion she had let her mind wander and by the time Liz came to check on her she had worked herself up into such a frenzy that she was on the verge of tears. She had finally fallen asleep a few moments ago and Liz prayed that Michael was back by the time she awoke, because if he wasn’t she had no idea how Maria would react.

“How is she?” A voice asked from behind her.

She knew he was there before he even spoke. She always knew when he was there. She turned to face him.

“She is frantic and panicked. You know how Maria can get sometimes but she’s really worried. I finally got her to go to sleep but if he’s not back when she wakes up...”

“I know. If he is not back in a few hours I am going to go out and look for him.” Max said worriedly.

They stood there in an awkward silence. So much had happened since her date with Sam. She finally had realized that she wanted to be with Max, needed to be with him. Then she had seen how he saw her and that had confirmed to her even more that they should be together. No matter what happened there was no one for her but Max.

Then they had learned about the “prophecy”. Was she really supposed to be with Max? Would their child be part of the 4 to activate the granolith and save Antar? Was it really possible that all along they were supposed to be together and if she told Max how she felt would he think it was just because of what she had heard today? Damn why didn’t she have the nerve to tell him this morning before all hell had broke loose. It was a mute point now and she knew what she had to do.

“Max, this tea is still hot do you want to come to my room and talk? I really don’t feel like being alone.” She said.

Talk, alone in her room. A pit formed in his stomach. He didn’t know if that pit was from fear or anticipation but he knew he had to accept.

“Sure, we can wait up together. Neither of us is going to get any sleep.” He said and followed her across the hall into her room.

Max opened the door for Liz and followed her as she entered. The smell of strawberries filled the air and he smiled because it was a smell that always reminded him of Liz.

Liz placed the tray down on her nightstand and poured them each a cup. It was as if she was pouring herself a cup of courage and as she walked over toward him with his mug she took a deep breath as she prepared to have what might turn out to be the most important conversation with Max she had ever had.

“Max, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking and I have something to talk to you about.” She said as he took the mug from her.

The knot in the pit of his stomach tightened at her words and he felt as if there was pressure on his chest. When he looked back on this moment later it would amaze him that he didn’t drop the mug of tea and that he was able to maintain his composure.

“Listen Liz, I know that what we learned today was….” He began to say.

“Max wait.” She interrupted him.

“Please let me finish what I have to say. I really need for you to listen to me.” She said with conviction.

He sat down on her bed.

“Ok.” He said in barely a whisper.

“Last night at dinner Sam helped me come to a realization about you and I.” She began.

Great Sam had helped her come to a realization about them. This couldn’t be good.

“I’ve always known I loved you Max. From the moment you healed me and probably even before… I think I always just knew. It’s funny to say it now but I think that things were so much easier when we first started out. Sure it was scary but the one thing that we were sure of then was how we felt about each other. Even if we denied it to each other in the beginning, deep own we knew. Then it all began to change and suddenly you had a wife and Alex was killed. Our relationship, it changed, we changed. Everything became cloudy and we lost our way.”

Max took a deep breath. Here it came his worst nightmare was about to come true and all he could do was stumble around in his mind for words, any words that would stop her from doing this.

“Liz I…” He started.

“Max you promised I could finish.” She said stopping him before he had a chance to go any further.

Defeated he reluctantly allowed her to continue.

“My instinct then was to escape and try and hold on to what we had that first few months. It’s why no matter what you did or how hard I thought I was trying to forgive you I never could.” She said smiling sadly as she thought about all the time they had wasted.

Max couldn’t take it anymore. This was unbearable. He didn’t want to relive this again. He relived it over and over again, every day and at night in his dreams.

“Listen Liz, I’m going to make this easy for you. Last night Sam helped you realize that you want normal. I understand that. I don’t like it but I’ll deal with it.” He said so fast she didn’t have a chance to interrupt him.

“You said you would let me finish.” She said a little annoyed.

“Why do we need to rehash this for the billionth time. I get it. I am not what you want. We can’t have what we once had and so on. Fine be with Sam.” He said aggravated.

Liz was starting to get annoyed. This was not how this was supposed to go.

“I said I had come to an important decision. I did not say what it was…” She started to explain further when he interrupted her.

“Liz why are you doing this. Do you want me to suffer like you suffered when you thought I chose Tess? Trust me I am suffering. Every time I see the two of you together I will be dieing a thousand deaths. Kivar himself could have not come up with a more torturous existence for me. I’ve lost you and you’ve found…” He said and collapsed on her bed. He just couldn’t take it. He was losing her and the emotions coursing through his body overtook him.

“You. I’ve found you again.” She said as she sat down next to him and placed her hands on his face.

“I don’t want to be with Sam. I may have wanted to believe that because it was the easy way out another escape. Sam showed me how wrong I was. He saw how much I loved you and he called me on it.” She said as she caressed his cheek.

Max didn’t know what to say or do. He was stunned. Did she just say she had chosen him? What? Why? How? The questions raced through his mind.

“Sam said that if it wasn’t hard it wasn’t true love. He was right. I thought our love and relationship needed to stay the way it had been at the beginning, untainted, but that was a teenagers ideal of love. I believed it was pure and innocent and I thought it needed to stay that way for us to be together. When you grow up you realize nothing stays the same. Things change and so do relationships. There are going to be hard times, obstacles and struggles but if you can make it through them your stronger and so is your love. That Roswell teenager couldn’t see that but Max that’s not who I am any more. I’m a woman and this woman chooses you and our love struggles and all.” She said as she wiped a stray tear from his cheek.

“I can’t believe this. Do you know how long I have waited for this? I thought I had lost you. I didn’t know how I was going to go on. You’re my life. All this time I’ve felt like a part of me was missing, my heart. You’re my heart Liz. I….” He said his emotions again overtaking him.

Liz placed her finger on his lips.

”Shh… No more. I don’t want to live in the past anymore. I want to live here and now and be with you.”

There were no more words to be said. They stared deep into each other’s eyes as if looking into each other’s souls. They could see it now, it was so clear. Now that they had let go of the guilt the hurt and the pain they truly saw each other and in that moment they saw themselves, their love, their children, their future.

As Max stood there he could feel himself come alive again. He felt her soft silky hair run through his fingers, he took a deep breath and inhaled her sweet scent; he listened as their breathing began to synchronize. It was if all his senses were suddenly alive again. There was only one sense left, taste and he longed to taste her sweet lips. Slowly he lowered his head and placed them on her luscious lips.

The connection was instant and intense. They both were assailed by images. At first the flashes were familiar, Max coming out of the pod, the Evans finding Max and Isabel, Liz meeting Maria and Alex for the first time, Max coming off the bus and seeing Liz, The teacher naming them lab partners, Max saving her in the Crashdown, There first kiss, the night the spent in the desert when they found the Orb, Jumping off the bridge after escaping Pierce, Liz running away after learning of Max’s so called destiny, Future Max, dancing in Las Vegas, the Prom, Alex’s death and the pain they both felt. It was at this point that the images changed.

Tess and Max are at the Observatory.

“I can’t believe how my life has changed. So much has changed I have nobody.” Max says.

“That’s not true Max. There are a lot of people that love and care for you.” Tess says and puts her hand on his arm.

He turns and smiles at her.

“I’m sorry for the way I treated you Tess. I was wrong.” He said putting his hand on hers.

Tess reaches out and pulls Max into a hug.

“I’m sorry I have to do this.” She whispers.

Tess places her hand on Max. He sees a flash of light.

“What’s happening?” He asks as he senses a presence in his mind.

**Please don’t fight it Max. I have to save Kyle and my child. This is the only way. I’m sorry** He hears a voice in his mind.

“Tess.” He mumbles before he loses consciousness.

He awakes to find a naked Tess in his arms. They look at each other.

“What happened?” He asks.

“We Made love.” Tess says without meeting his eyes.

“Oh my God what have we done?” Max says.

Liz breaks away from Max and the flashes stop.

“Liz I’m so sorry, I never wanted you to see that…” Max starts to say but stops when he sees the expression on her face.

She is smiling. Not just any smile but a wide ear-to-ear grin.

“Why are you smiling like that?” He asks confused.

“Don’t you see Max? It all wasn’t true. You never slept with Tess.” She said still smiling.

“But…” He began and then he remembered. The presence in his mind, he remembered it now. He remembered how he heard Tess’s voice in his head. That part was never in his dreams. It must be true. Tess loved Kyle she would never betray him. She tricked Max into believing that they had slept together to protect Kyle and KJ.

“I can’t believe this. Why didn’t I ever remember this before?” He said.

“I think it was us, me and our connection. It must have unlocked your memory. We never could keep anything from each other when we are this close. ”

“It means I didn’t betray you.” He said tears now forming in his eyes.

She shook her head in agreement and then leaned into his embrace.

”I love you Max whether it was true or not I have chosen to be with you.” She said as she pressed herself deeper into his embrace.

Pulling back to gaze into his eyes she took his hands and entwined them with hers.

“Since that first day on the playground. I knew we were meant to be together.” He said as he closed his fingers around hers.

For a moment they gazed into each other’s eyes and for the first time truly saw the others soul. This time there were no walls of protection or guilt. All they saw was the love that the other felt for each other.

“This is the way it is supposed to be.” Liz said in barely a whisper.

Max lowered his lips on hers. The connection was instant and electric. The images came again but they pushed passed them. This moment was special. It was about the here and now and they wanted to be focused solely on each other.

“I love you.” He said.

“I love you too.” She said breathlessly.

There were no more words. They both knew what they wanted, what had been destined since they first set eyes on each other. They had finally chosen each other and on this night in Liz’s room Max and Liz became one.

Sorry this has taken so long but I was planning a baptism and getting everything ready for that. I am glad everone liked Liz and Max's reunion. I hope that you all like this part but I am going to label it R so be aware.
So without further blabbing from me here it is:

Stronget together Part 38

Michael walked into he house and closed the door behind him. He had been out riding all night just trying to digest what he had learned. He knew Maria was probably worried sick and he didn’t want to wake her up if she had fallen asleep.

He had a mother and Kyle was for all intense purposes his twin, Kyle Valenti. Sure he and Kyle got along but never in a billion years would he have guessed they had shared a womb. It was as if the world had been turned upside down and he had no idea how to deal with it, no amount of driving his bike was going to change that. He needed the one constant in his life and that was Maria.

As he approached his bedroom he noticed that Max’s bedroom door was open and he wasn’t anywhere to be found.

‘Hope he isn’t out searching for me.’ He thought to himself feeling a bit guilty about not calling. Yet he didn’t regret it. He wasn’t ready to share this new information with the group, especially Kyle. What was he going to say? “Oh Kyle by the way were twins.” They would think that he had come down with some form of alien schizophrenia. Everyone that is except Maria, she would believe him and that is why he decided to come home. He needed her.

He opened the door to her room, which for all intense purposes had become their room. She was laying on the bed a beige blanket covering her small frame.

She sensed his presence immediately and stirred from her sleep. She opened her eyes and quickly sat up in bed, ready to give him a piece of her mind for making her worry all night. However, when she looked at him all anger drained from her body. She knew instantly that Michael had learned something tonight that had touched the core of his being. She could see it in his eyes. She knew that he needed her and not to yell or talk but just to be there for him.

Michael braced himself for Maria’s rage but it never came. Instead he watched as she pulled the covers back on the bed inviting him to join her. Without saying a word he laid down beside her.

She pulled the covers over him and wrapped her body around his. There would be time for talking and dealing with whatever Michael had learned tonight but right now what Michael needed more than anything was there connection to each other. As her feelings of love and admiration engulfed him Michael did something he hadn’t done since the night things had gone so terrible wrong with Hank, he cried.

***********************************(*******************************************

Kyle woke up to find Isabel’s head on his chest and her hand lying directly over his crotch area. After they had been told that their children were part of some Antarian prophecy Kyle had flown off the handle and Isabel had followed him to try and calm him down. She was no happier with the situation then he was. Their children were not even a year old and yet they had already lost a parent and now they were expected to be some great savior to a planet they had never even seen and probably would never see.

Kyle and Isabel had agreed that night that they would try and make their children’s lives as normal as possible. They would not put Lexie and KJ in any situation that they felt might harm them. If the prophecy were true it would happen whether they exposed their children to all things Antarian or not.

They had talked to the wee hours of the morning and had fallen asleep on his bed. This wasn’t something that had not happened before but what was new was the way that Kyle’s body was responding to Isabel.

Feeling himself beginning to stir he shifted his body slightly trying to angle his growing arousal away from her.

‘Damn it, this is Isabel for Pete’s sake why the hell was this happening?’

Isabel began to stir when Kyle shifted beneath her. Her eyes fluttered opened and locked with his. There was a brief moment of awkwardness when she realized where her hand was and she quickly removed it as she turned a crimson red.

“Thank God your awake. Did anyone ever tell you that you sleep like the dead?” He said trying to break the awkwardness of the moment with humor.

“I’ve been trying to wake you for the last fifteen minutes. My hand fell asleep.” He lied and began shaking his hand in hopes that it would distract her attention from his groin.

“ Shit, Now I’ve got pins and needles. I hate that feeling.” He said as he continued the fierce shaking.

Isabel threw her legs off the side of the bed.

“Men, they have no tolerance for pain. That’s why we bare the children.” She said as she rolled her eyes.

“Speaking of children…” She said as she glanced at the two Infant carriers next to the bed.

“Have you looked at the clock? It’s 8 AM. They slept through the night. I can’t believe it.” She said as she watched her daughter begin to stir.

“Wow, what are the odds they would do that for the first time on the same night. You would think they were twins.” He said.

‘Yeah but that would mean we would be their parents together.’ He thought to himself and then quickly reprimanded himself. What the hell was going on?

Isabel shifted uncomfortable on the bed. She could feel the tension in the room and she didn’t know what to make of it.

“I’m going to go take a shower.” Kyle said quickly moving passed Isabel picking up the Infant carrier and heading for the door in one swift motion.

“Maybe will go to the Mall later and get some Christmas shopping done.” He said as he glanced behind him.

‘Yeah that’s it a large public place.’ He thought.

“Who are you and what have you done with Kyle Valenti.” She said again trying to move passed the elephant in the room.

“What? It’s KJ’s first Christmas and I’m not much of a shopper. I figured that you could help me, after all they don’t call you the Christmas Nazi for nothing.” He said with a laugh.

Isabel threw a pillow in his direction and laughed.

“I’ll get you for that one Kyle Valenti.” She said.

“I only speak the truth.” He said as he closed the door behind him.

When he was safely in the hall way and the door was closed behind him, he exhaled a huge breath. He could feel that something was shifting between he and Isabel and he didn’t know what that meant for them. He also didn’t know that on the other side of the door Isabel was realizing the same exact thing.

************************)********************************************

“Wow. I can’t believe it. You and Kyle are like twins.” Maria exclaimed as she shook her head in amazement.

“I mean twins. You guys are like night and day. Kyle’s social and you’re a loner. He’s a jock and you’re a biker. I mean the differences go on and on…”

“Where not really twins.” He said trying to break her ramble.

“Not Twins.” She yelled.

“What are you talking about? You shared womb space I would say that makes you two Twins alright.” She yelled.

“Maria please be quiet. I don’t want the whole house to know.” He said rolling his eyes.

“I’m sorry but you can’t deny it you’re twins and the oddest pair of twins at that. Except maybe for Danny Devito and Arnold Schwazeneger in the Movie Twins. Now they were an odd pairing…”

Michael listened to her ramble on and rolled his eyes.

“Maria.” He said.

“And you know when mom marries sheriff Valenti Kyle will be my step brother and your brother and well that’s just to weird for words.” She continued

“Maria!!” He said and grabbed her by the shoulders to stop her pacing. “Breathe.”

“Your right I guess Kyle and I are really twins.” Finally admitting it to himself.

“And we are not that different.” He added.

Maria gave him a look that said ‘Yeah right’

“No really think about it. Who always agrees on what movies we should watch? And who are the two that are always getting yelled at because we are watching hockey.” Michael said.

“You’ve thought a lot about this haven’t you?”

“Yeah I guess I have. I mean think about it Maria, Kyle and I never really ever butted heads. Sure I never wanted him to know our secret but I didn’t want anyone to. I mean even when those guys beat up Max, I knew it had to do with Kyle yet I didn’t go after him. Why?” He said starting to realize that maybe there had been subtle clues that they had a connection all the time.

“I guess you’re right. I never thought about it before. Aside from Tess you were the only other alien Kyle would acknowledge in the beginning, even if it was with insults between the two of you.”

“There were plenty of times that Kyle could have turned me in for things before he knew but he never did.” Michael added.

Suddenly Maria got a strange look on her face and became really quiet.

“Maria, What’s wrong?” Michael asked concerned.

“Nothing.” She said shaking her head.

“Maria. I know something is bothering you tell me.”

“Well if the Antarians did all of these things to you, Kyle and your mother then maybe my Dad isn’t lying.” She said a little bit of hope in her voice.

“It’s possible. I’m the last person who wants to trust him but he could be telling the truth.”

“I think that I can’t just assume he’s lying. All of our lives have been screwed up by this damn prophecy. I think that I owe it to myself and my father to give him the benefit of the doubt.”

“How do you think Amy is going to feel about that?”

Maria grimaced.

“I’ll deal with that when I have to and not one minute sooner.”

“So what are you going to do? Are you going to tell Kyle?” She asked curiously.

“I don’t know. Is it really my secret to tell?” He asked her as he ran his hands through his hair.

“Can you picture his reaction? He hasn’t been dealing with this very well. This could send him over the edge.”

“He is your twin. He has a right to know.”

“I know but I don’t think it should come from me. It has to come from Kristiana. He needs to hear why she did the things she did.”

“Then you need to convince him to go see her.”

“I know but that’s easier said then done.”

“I’m sure you can convince him. You’re very convincing when you want to be.” She said as she put her arms around his neck.

“Oh really.” He said with a grin.

“Yes really.” She said as she sported her own grin.

“Well then do you think I can convince you to get back in that bed?”

”Maybe you should practice your tactics of persuasion.”

Michael kissed her.

“I think that can be arranged.

*******************************************I**********************************\
Max smiled as Liz began to stir from her slumber. It been had been an eventful night. Liz had chosen him. Even before they had found out that he hadn’t slept with Tess. He still couldn’t believe it and then they had given themselves to each other not only physically but emotionally as well. Max had never felt so at peace and so complete. It was as if some part of him that was missing had been found. After everything that had happened they had found their way back to each other and as far as he was concerned he was never letting her go.

“Mmm…” Liz awoke with a smile on her face. She remembered instantly where she was and all of the events that had transpired. She felt so safe and happy in his arms and she never wanted to let that feeling go.

“Good morning sleepy head.” Max said when she opened her eyes.

“Good morning.” She said and reached up and placed a kiss on his lips.

“Did you have sweet dreams?” She asked.

“The sweetest. They were all about you.”

Liz blushed and again brushed his lips with a kiss.

“I haven’t slept that well since…” Liz began to say.

“That night in the desert.” They both said.

Liz and Max laughed.

”Sure we slept so well that night that we almost weren’t allowed to see each other any more.” He said.

“Do you remember my Father’s face? I thought he was going to leap over the counter and strangle you.” Liz remembered.

“It’s a good thing he didn’t. I might have put up my shield for the first time out of sheer panic.”

“I don’t think they believed that we didn’t do anything that night. My father made sure that he had the “Sex” talk with me again that night.” He said remembering how he had sat there listening to his father discuss the many merits of birth control.

“Guess he was talking to the wrong child.” Max cracked.

“Max that’s terrible.” She said trying not to smile.

“I know, I know.” He said laughing.

Liz started to get up and get dressed.

“Where do you think you are going.” Max asked raising one eyebrow at her half-naked form.

“I have to go check on Maria.”

“No need. I heard Michael’s bike around 1 this morning. I’m sure they are having make up time right about now.”

“Thank God she was so freaked.”

“So now that your worries have been taken care of you can come back to bed.” He said as he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her on the bed.

She kissed him and savored the taste of his sweet lips on hers and then moaned. She could feel the passion begin to rise within her again and she moaned again. She felt their bodies fall into a steady rhythm and listened as their breathing became synchronized. The waves of pleasure that enveloped her body as he touched her took her to the brink and back and when she could bare it no more they again became one. She felt pure peace in that moment and never wanted to leave that room.

As they lay wrapped in each other’s arms spent from their lovemaking Liz whispered, “I love you.” And then she drifted off to sleep.

Max sat and watched her sleep and breath for a half hour before his own exhaustion over took him and he to fell asleep as well.

****************(*****************************************************
Kyle and Isabel pushed their strollers through the Mall.

“Lets find the elevator. I need to get to the Children’s Place and Baby Gap.” Isabel said as she stopped at a cart that sold hair accessories.

Kyle felt like he had been at the Mall for hours. Isabel was like a super shopper. She zipped in and out of stores and always came out with at least 2 bags. In the hour that they had been there she had zipped through almost the entire first floor. Not an easy feat and now she was headed for the second. In that same time Kyle had managed to buy 2 gifts for KJ for Christmas. Lexie had at least 20.

“Iz, I need to rest and get something to eat.” Kyle said.

“Rest, eat, not while these two are napping. This is prime shopping time and I’m not about to miss it because your belly is rumbling.” She said as she paid for the butterfly barrettes that she would put in Lexi’s stocking.

“Besides didn’t you say you needed to get some Christmas shopping done? Well I see 3 bags under your carriage and 2 of them are mine.” She said pushing the stroller towards the elevator.

“I haven’t seen anything that I wanted to pick up yet, except that fishing reel for my dad and the junior fishing rod for KJ. I’m not good at this.” He said shaking his head.

“That’s why I am here to help.” She said with a grin.

Isabel pushed the elevator button numerous times.

“You realize that doesn’t make the elevator come any faster.”

Isabel gave him a dirty look and continued to press the button. She didn’t like when they stopped. It meant she had to make eye contact with him and after what had transpired between them that morning she was weary of that happening.

“I also think that we should invest in one of those double strollers. Why should we lug two strollers everywhere when we are out together?” She said.

“You mean why should you have to be hindered by a stroller when you have me along to push it.” He laughed

“Well that too.” She admitted as they piled into the elevator.

“You are to much Isabel Evans.”

They exited the elevator and headed towards the GAP kids store.

They entered the store and Isabel went to work. Kyle watched her with amusement as she breezed through the racks of clothes. She was truly in her element and boy was she beautiful. If it was at all possible motherhood had made Isabel even more beautiful. It had softened her. When you looked at her you could just see the amount of love she had for her child and not just for her child but for his as well. That’s what made her even more amazing anyone that looked at Isabel in that moment would believe that both of those children were hers.

“Kyle, you need to get this for KJ.” Isabel exclaimed. She was holding up a white shirt and red vest.

“Isabel, that vest is red.” Kyle said as if the statement said it all.

“So?” She said placing her hands on her hips.

“So my son is not going to wear a red vest.” He said matter-of-factly

“You have got to be kidding me.” She said rolling her eyes.

“That shade of red is a girl color.” He stated.

“Kyle this is Christmas red. IT is not a girl color.”

”It is a girl color and KJ won’t be wearing it.” He said as he took the vest and placed it back on the rack.

“You’ve got issues.” She said shaking her head.

“How about this?” She said holding up a cream colored sweater covered in dark blue snowflakes of various sizes.

“That’s more like it.” He said nodding his head in agreement.

Isabel and Kyle paid for their purchases and moved on to the next store. This time Kyle waited outside with the babies and allowed Isabel to shop on her own. After zipping through the racks like the seasoned pro that she was Isabel took the items she had decided on and purchased them at the register.

With her packages in hand she rushed out of the store hoping Kyle wasn’t mad at her for taking so long. When she reached the doorway of the store she stopped dead in her tracks. There was Kyle with the carriages and with him was a tall leggy blond in a tacky green miniskirt.

‘Who the hell is that and what the hell is she doing with her hands on Kyle?’ Was the first thought that popped into her head when she saw the scene before her.

Kyle stood outside the store a fake smile glued on his face as he spoke to Dina Caferty. She was a cheerleader for the team and was always all over him. When he had seen her coming down the mall corridor he had looked in any which direction to get away but with the two carriages it wasn’t so easy and by the time he began to move she had already spotted him. So here he had stood for the last 20 minutes listening to her cackle on about the latest fashions and campus parties.

“So how come I never see you at any of the campus parties?” Dina asked.

“Well with an infant it’s not like I get out much.” He said stating the obvious.

“Oh come on there has to be someone you can get to baby sit.” She purred as she placed her hand on his shoulder.

“Actually…” He started to say but then he saw Isabel.

‘Thank God.’ He thought and began to wave her over.

“Isabel.” He yelled.

‘Damn did he catch me staring at them?’ Isabel thought when she heard Kyle call her name.

Dina looked in the direction that Kyle was waving. She was annoyed that anything was drawing his attention away from her and when she saw Isabel she became even more annoyed.

“Oh is this your girlfriend?” Dina asked snottily when Isabel had reached them.

“No!” They both said simultaneously.

“Were just friends. Isabel is Lexi’s mom.” Kyle explained.

Isabel busied herself looking at her bags. She didn’t understand what she was feeling and she didn’t want Kyle to see her like this. It was then she realized that she had left a bag inside.

“Oh, I forgot a bag. I promise I’ll only be a minute.” She said and rushed back in the store.

“Take your time I’ll keep your friend busy.” Dina purred.

Kyle rolled his eyes while Dina wasn’t looking.

“So an unmarried mother. I’m not surprised she hangs around you. You would be a real catch for someone like her.”

“Someone like her? Some one like her?” Kyle said infuriated.

“You know nothing about that woman or what she has been through. That woman is the strongest most courageous woman I have ever met.” He said in an angry voice.

“You know why she’s not married? Her baby’s father is dead. That’s why. She has been through things you couldn’t even imagine and has done it with Grace and dignity. You and she aren’t even on the same page lady. So why don’t you stop wasting my time and get the hell out of here.” Kyle yelled drawing the curious looks of passers by.

“Well I never.” Dina said shocked at the way Kyle spoke to her.

“That’s right you never have and you never will. Bye-Bye.” He said.

Isabel emerged from the store a few minutes later and saw Dina leaving.

“Ready to go he said.” Trying to calm himself so that Isabel wouldn’t see he was upset. He didn’t want to explain what had just happened.

“Yeah. I’m ready.” She said as she began pushing her stroller.

“You ok?” She asked.

“Yeah I’m fine.” He lied.

The truth was he wasn’t fine because in that little confrontation with Dina he had realized something. He had feelings for Isabel and he didn’t know what that meant for either of them.

Stronger Together
Part 39

Maria climbed the stairs heading toward her room with a tray of sandwiches. After Making Love to Michael they had watched a DVD and by the time they realized it was late afternoon. Deciding that they couldn’t live on love alone she had headed toward the kitchen to make them some sandwiches.

When she got to her room Michael got up from his spot on the bed and helped her with the tray.
“This looks great Maria.” He said as he look at the tray piled with food.

He took a sandwich that Maria made for him and bit into it.

“Maria, you forgot the Tabasco.” He said talking with the food in his mouth.

“I make all this and your going to give mw grief about the Tabasco. I don’t think so. Do you think it was easy making all of this. No mister it wasn’t. You’re a picky eater.” She said waving her finger at him.

Michael laughed. She was beautiful when she was angry or annoyed hell she was always beautiful.

“I’m sorry if I didn’t show my appreciation.” He said grabbing her and kissing her passionately.

“Now can you please go get me the Tabasco.” He said with a grin.

“I don’t believe that your legs are broke. Get up and get it yourself.” She said as she plopped herself down on the bed.

Michael scowled. He had been very comfortable and had not wanted to get up but he couldn’t eat these sandwiches without the Tabasco and she knew it. Reluctantly he got up and headed for the door.

“Oh and you can bring me a refill of my Snapple.” She said with a huge grin

‘That would teach him.’ She thought.

Michael opened the door and stepped into the hall. He looked down the hall and quickly opened the door and went back in his room.

“Back so soon. I’m not going for you Michael I don’t care what you say.” She said amused.

“Shh. Maria be quiet. Your not going to believe what I just saw.” He said

“What?” She said intrigued.

“You’ll have to get me the Tabasco to find out.” He said using his information to his advantage.

“Ha, you didn’t see anything. You’re just trying to get me to go down and get the Tabasco.” She said and lay back down on the pillows.

“Oh yes I did see something and it is huge.” He said knowing the curiosity was killing her.

“But if you don’t want to know…” He said and headed toward the door.

Maria knew that Michael hadn’t seen anything but her curiosity was killing her and she wouldn’t take the chance that he had seen something.

“Fine.” She said jumping up and stopping him at the door.

“But you better not be lying or that hot little alien lovemaking session we just had will be your last for a very longtime.” She said pointedly.

“Apparently ours wasn’t the only hot alien lovemaking session going on.” He said under his breath.

Maria ran down the stair and grabbed the Tabasco sauce from the counter and rushed back to the room.

“Here.” She said thrusting the bottle at him. “Now spill.”

“Well he said.” Taking a bite out of his sandwich and chewing slowly.

Maria was getting very aggravated and began to tap her foot.

“You better have something to tell me Michael Guerin or you better make something up.” She yelled.

Michael loved toying with her.
He took a sip of his Snapple.

“Ahh.”

“Michael!” She yelled.

“Ok. You are not going to believe who I saw coming out of Liz’s room half naked just now.”

“Please tell me it wasn’t Sam. What was she thinking. I mean she hardly knows the guy and she’s sleeping with him. She told me she loved Max. What the hell is going on? Well I hope she was safe. Oh my God I have to go talk to her.” She said running off at the mouth.

“Maria! I didn’t say it was Sam. Would I be this calm if it was Sam? As a matter a fact it wasn’t Sam. It was another male you mentioned.”

“Max?” She said surprised.

“Yep and from the looks of it he seemed really happy. There is only one thing that puts that look on an Alien Hybrids face. Hot alien Sex.” He said with a grin.

“Michael!!” Maria yelled and threw a pillow at him.

“What? You know it’s true.”

”I have got to go see Liz.” Maria said and hurried out the door and down the hall towards Liz’s room.

******(************************************************************************

Maria didn’t knock when she reached Liz’s room. She just turned the knob and walked in.

Liz was startled by the sudden entrance and looked up from making the bed in surprise.

“Maria, Hi.” She said when she realized it was her friend.

Maria looked at Liz and knew instantly that Michael had been right. Liz was practically glowing and there was peacefulness to her. Maria could sense her happiness and her excitement.

“Don’t Hi Maria me. You’ve been devirginized.”

“Maria!!” Liz exclaimed.

“Don’t try and deny it. I know that look. I had that look only a few hours ago. You and Max made love.”

Liz blushed. There was no use denying it. In fact she didn’t want to deny it. She wanted to shout it from the rooftops. She loved Max Evans and they were going to be together always.

“We did.” She whispered shyly.

“I knew it.” Maria yelled and then plopped herself down next to Liz on her freshly made bed.

“Are you ok Chica?” Maria asked.

“I’m more than ok Maria. I’m whole. It’s like suddenly I’m complete.”

Maria nodded because she knew the feeling well.

“How did this all happen? I mean the last time we spoke you weren’t even sure you were going to tell him how you felt.” Maria said.

“I decided to just go with my heart like grandma Claudia told me to.” She said remembering her Grandmothers long ago words.

Liz explained to Maria about what had transpired between her and Max the night before. She only left out the intimate details because those were private and were only to be shared between the two of them. She told her about Tess and how he and her had never actually slept together.

“I’m so happy for you Lizzie. It’s been a long time coming.” She said.

“I know it has but now that we are together nothing is ever going to tear us apart.” She said with conviction.

“So how is Michael?” Liz asked remembering that her friend had a rough night.

“He’s ok. He just needed to sort some things out.” Maria said. She wanted to tell Liz what was going on but it wasn’t her secret to tell and she knew that.

“I let him know that if he ever scares me like that again he would live to regret it. If you know what I mean.” She said matter-of-factly.

“Needless to say he won’t be doing that again.” She said with a satisfied smile.

Liz blushed again knowing what Maria was implying.

“Maria I can’t believe that you use sex as a weapon.” She said shaking her head.

“Liz you have to understand, Michael is a very sexually being. He sometimes can’t go without a little loving for a couple of days. Can I help it if I use that to my advantage sometimes? It’s the way of the woman and let me tell you it works. You’ll see.”

“I can’t ever imagine me using our lovemaking against Max like that Maria.”

“We’ll see.” Maria said.

“You do realize that now that Max has had a taste of the real thing that he is going to want it all the time and if your anything like me so will you but us woman we have more will power than men, at least most of the time.”

“Maria, Can I ask you a question?”

”Sure Chica, anything.” Her friend said smiling at her.

“Is it always that good.” She asked shyly.

“Oh Liz it only gets better.” Maria said as she smiled.

Liz couldn’t imagine it being any better than it had been but somehow she knew Maria was right.
**********************(******************************************************
After sitting and waiting in the room for a half hour Michael came to the realization that Maria wasn’t coming right back so he decided to head downstairs.

He saw Max sitting in the kitchen.

“Hey, man what’s up.” Michael said as he went to the refrigerator and grabbed a snapple.

“Not much.” Max replied and began to head towards the stairs.

“Yeah right.” Michael said sarcastically.

“What is that supposed to mean?” Max said with a raised eyebrow.

“If you were planning to head to Liz’s room Maria’s in there and If I know Maria they won’t be out for hours.” Michael said a smirk on his face.

‘Damn what did Michael know? Was their secret out already?’ Max thought to himself.

“What makes you think that I was going to see Liz?” Max said feeling him out for what he knew. He didn’t want to go blabbing anything if Michael didn’t know anything. He wanted to have some time for he and Liz to just be together with out the others knowing about it. There was no telling how they would all react. It had been a long bumpy road the last time they were together and he really didn’t want anyone’s input on what they thought of their new relationship. He knew it was selfish but still it was what he wanted and if Michael didn’t know anything there was no need for him to give him any information.

“Jigs up Maxwell. I saw you coming out of Liz’s room before.”

‘Damn he did know something’

“So? I was returning a book I borrowed.” He said spitting out the first lie that came into his head.

“Half naked?” Michael said with a chuckle.

Max looked down defeated. There was no use denying it now he knew.

“Is it that obvious?” Max mumbled to himself.

“For what its worth I think its great. Its about time.” Michael said.

Max felt a bit relieved at Michael’s show of support.

“I know it’s been a long time coming.” Max said a huge smile on his face. He had nothing to hide. He loved Liz and everyone should know it and if they didn’t like it to damn bad.

“So what happened? I mean as of yesterday the two of you were barely speaking and now you’re together.” Michael said.

“It was all Liz. I had pretty much decided to let her have her “normal” life but she decided that she wanted me. She came to my room and told me that she loved me, flaws and all.” He said remembering the night they had shared.

“So was it different this time then last.” Michael asked then immediately wanted to take it back. Bringing up his indiscretion with Tess probably wasn’t the best thing to do right now.

“Turns out there was no other time.” Max said matter-of-factly.

“What do you mean?” Michael asked curiously.

“When Liz and I connected last night it lifted a block on my memory. Tess and I never had sex. She made me think that to protect KJ and Kyle from Nicholas.” He said.

“Wow.” Michael said shocked by the news.

“I know. I think that I always knew it deep down but I just couldn’t see it because I wanted it to be true and so I kept telling myself that it couldn’t be. If that makes any sense.” Max said.

“It makes sense. Remember I am engaged to Maria Deluca I can make sense out of anything.” Michael said with a laugh.

“Damn, Kivar and Nicholas and the rest of the people from these damn planets. Who the hell do they think they are? Messing with peoples, lives, their marriages or their children. Personally I don’t want anything to do with them.” Michael said angrily and banged his hand on the table.

“Wow Michael.” Max said surprised by Michael’s strong reaction.

Michael took a deep breath and tried to pull himself together. He didn’t plan on telling Max what he had learned right now. It wasn’t his secret to tell and the way that Kyle felt about Max he would never forgive Michael if Max knew about their sibling status before he did.

“Sorry. It just makes me really angry. I mean Maria almost died and would have if someone hadn’t decided at that moment that it was time to send her father back. I don’t even want to think about it.” He said shaking his head.

Max knew exactly how Michael felt. People he had never seen had run his entire life from a planet he had never laid eyes on. And the best part was after hearing Rian and Kristiana explain it they didn’t even know what the hell was going on.

“They don’t even know what the hell we are supposed to be doing here. I mean to recreate beings based on a riddle and then expect something to happen is ludicrous.” Michael continued echoing Max’s thoughts.

“”Well as far as I am concerned we just live our lives. Forget all that nonsense. If something happens we deal with it but we are not letting it interfere with our lives anymore.”

The door behind them opened drawing them away from their conversation.

“I told you I was a shopping pro.” Isabel said as she entered the house holding an infant in each arm.

Max and Michael couldn’t control their laughter when they saw Kyle. He had bags up and down his arms and held 2 boxes in his hands.

“You went shopping with Isabel? Dude what are you crazy?” Michael said through fits of laughter.

”Ha, ha very funny.” Kyle said putting the packages down in the living area.

After Max and Michael had gotten a hold of themselves the four went to the couches and sat down. Isabel placed the kids on their infant play mat and plopped down in the Large recliner. Kyle moved as far away as possible from her to the Love seat and Michael and Max sat on the Sofa.

Both Kyle and Michael put their feet on the coffee table and the fact brought Michael’s thoughts back to what he had learned the day before. He had to convince Kyle to go see his mother he couldn’t carry this around with him forever.

“my, my.” KJ said pulling on Michaels pant leg.

“Ooh, my, my.” KJ said again.

Michael scooped KJ up off the floor and placed him in his lap. KJ and Michael had become close ever since Michael and Maria had found he and Kyle at the Pod chamber. If KJ wasn’t with Kyle or Isabel you could often find him sitting or playing with Michael. Maria had even stated on numerous occasions that she loved seeing the two of them together because it gave her a glimpse of the future.

“Hey there KJ. What you got there?” Michael said pointing to the stuffed ball in Kj’s left hand.

“Ball, my, my.” KJ said.

“I think he is saying Mike, Mike.” Michael said grinning.

“Oh please, that’s a stretch Michael.” Isabel said laughing.

“No really. He always says my, my when he wants my attention.” Michael said defensively.

“Your right Michael. He IS saying your name.” Kyle said watching Isabel’s reaction.

Isabel gave him the reaction he was expecting she rolled her eyes.

“Am I missing something?” Max asked noting his sister’s response.

“Isabel is just a little defensive because all Lexie says is Ma, Ma and ba, ba.” Kyle said trying not to smirk.

He knew it bothered her that KJ’s vocabulary was exploding at a fast rate. He always teased her about it and he thought that if he tried to return to their normal routine he could forget the feelings he was beginning to feel for her.

“That is so not true. She said doll just the other day.” Isabel said defending her daughter.

“Come on Is, you know I’m just kidding.” Kyle said.

“So where are Maria and Liz?” Isabel asked changing the subject and throwing a dirty look Kyle’s way.

Max and Michael exchanged glances with each other, something that didn’t go unnoticed by Isabel.

“What is gong on? Are they making wedding plans without me?” Isabel said beginning to get a little angry. Maria’s wedding was something she had chosen to focus on. It gave her something to do other then change diapers and sing songs, it brought her back to the adult world and though she loved her daughter she needed that. In her head she was planning the wedding she and Alex would never have.

Max and Michael noted the sad look on their sister’s face and quickly tried to assure her.

“No, nothing like that.” Michael said.

Isabel relaxed a little relieved in knowing that she still had her escape. Taking a brief glance at Kyle she had a felling she would be needing it.

“Then what?” She asked getting impatient.

“You better tell her or she is going to explode.” Michael said grinning.

Kyle leaned forward in his seat his interest piqued.

“What?!” Isabel yelled fuming.

“Liz and I are back together.” Max said waiting for his sister’s reaction.

“What? You mean to tell me that we sat here this whole time making idle chitchat and you had something this huge to tell. What happened? When did this happen?” Isabel said standing up.

“Last night. We decided to forget the past and just be together.” Max replied.

“And?” Isabel said wanting more information.

Max sat there amused by his sister’s reaction but he was not about to tell her about what had happened between them last night. IT was one thing to know that your sibling had sex and another to discuss it with them.

Isabel blew air out of her mouth.

“Men thy are useless when it comes to details.” She huffed.

“Where are Liz and Maria?” She asked again.

“I think they are still up in Liz’s room.” Michael said amused by Isabel’s reaction.

“Well that’s where we will be.” Isabel said scooping Lexie up and heading towards the stairs.

“Getting details.” She said throwing her brother a look over her shoulder.

“Well, I think its great and about time.” Kyle said when Isabel was gone.

“Thanks Kyle.” Max said surprised by his supportive reaction. Max and Kyle’s relationship had improved over the last few months but was still a work in progress. He also knew that Kyle was still very protective of Liz and so this was not the reaction he had expected from him.

“Listen Kyle there is something that you should know. Something that Liz and I figured out last night.” Max began.

Kyle tensed in his seat.

“I had a block on my memory and when Liz and I formed a connection that block was removed.” Max continued. This wasn’t as easy as he thought it would be and then he decided to just tell him.

“Tess and I never slept together.” He said feeling like a huge weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

Kyle visibly relaxed.

“I think I always knew that Max. Deep down I just knew.” He said.

“Well glad that’s out of the way KJ seems to think we need some male bonding and he thinks a hockey game might do the trick and luckily there is one on ESPN right now.” Michael said breaking the serious tone in the room and flicking on the TV with the remote.

Max and Kyle both smiled.

“Sounds good little guy.” Max said giving KJ his finger to grasp.

“I’ll get the beer for us and some formula for you mister.” Kyle said laughing at his son.

In that moment there was no prophecy, no far off planets and no alien conspiracies, all there was were 3 men and a baby enjoying each others company.

******(****************************************************************
The girls came down a half hour later and Isabel looked pleased that she now was up to speed on what had happened between Max and Liz. They found the guys sitting on the couch eating popcorn, drinking beer and watching a hockey game.

“Hey look who decided to join us.” Michael said pulling Maria on to his lap.

Liz went and sat by Max. Isabel stood awkwardly and then headed back to the recliner.

“So did you get your details.” Michael said laughing.

“I got enough.” Isabel said knowing what he was implying.

Maria and Liz had filled her in on all the pertinent information but had left the more intimate details to themselves. Isabel preferred that her brothers sex life remain a mystery.

“So we have Thanksgiving coming up in a few weeks.” Isabel said trying to shake the images of Liz and Max from her head.

“Yeah. IT should be great. All our parents are coming and I’m sure my Mom will be full of details about the wedding.” Maria said.

“I still can’t believe that they are getting married on New Years Eve.” Kyle said.

“It should be fun.” Liz said.

As they continued talking about the upcoming wedding Lexie crawled over to Kyle and reached her arms out for him. On instinct he scooped her up.

“Da, Da.” She said and placed her head on his shoulder.

The room became instantly quiet. Kyle stiffened and Isabel became visibly pale as tears stung her eyes. It was as if time stood still, no one knowing what to do. After a few moments Isabel regained her composure.

“It’s passed Lexie’s bed time.” She managed to say.

Kyle quickly handed the little girl over to her mother avoiding eye contact. Once she was out of his arms and in Isabel’s. Isabel rushed her upstairs.

The remaining five sat there in silence for a few more moments.

“I’m going to go to her.” Max said.

“No Max. Let me go.” Liz said. She knew that Isabel must be feeling a thousand different emotions at this moment. Isabel needed Alex in that moment but he wasn’t able to be there. His best friend would have to do.

“Ok but I’ll be in my room if you need me.” He said following her up the stairs.

Michael looked at Kyle. He could see the guilt in Kyle’s face. He had treated Lexie like a daughter since the day she was born. She felt that love. She chose to express it in the only way a baby knows how.

“Kyle, it’s not your fault.” Michael said after a few moments.

“I never tried to replace Alex.” He said softly.

“We know that Kyle.” Maria said.

“She’s a little girl. She doesn’t understand. She hears KJ call you da, da and she just followed suit.” Maria said trying to comfort him.

Kyle wiped a stray tear from his cheek. Why had he been so stupid? How could he be so stupid? Was he subconsciously trying to take Alex’s place? Was that why he was having all of these feelings for Isabel? It didn’t matter it stopped now. He knew what he had to do.

“Maria, Michael do you think that you could help me out with watching KJ for the next couple of weeks? Football season is almost over and once it is I won’t have a problem but I could really use your help until the.” He said.

“Sure no problem.” Michael said bouncing KJ on his knee.

“Kyle don’t do this. It’s not necessary. It was innocent. It could have been anyone.” Maria pleaded.

“It wasn’t anyone. It was me. I can’t keep pretending that I am a father to Lexie or Isabel is a mother to KJ. It will only confuse them. I have to do this.” He said and went over to Michael to get KJ.

“I’ll see you in the morning.” He said.

Maria and Michael watched sadly as he walked up the stairs.

“Hasn’t his world been turned upside down enough? Isabel and he were each others support system what are they going to do know.” Michael said shaking his head.

“I don’t know but a better question is how much more can he take?” Maria said.

Maria was right. How could he send Kyle to see Kristiana now? It might be too much to handle but deep sown he knew Kyle deserved to know and he didn’t know what the hell he was going to do about it.

****************************)****************************************

Liz knocked on Isabel’s door.

“Isabel can I come in?”

Isabel wiped the tears from her cheeks and rubbed her eyes. Hearing Lexie call Kyle Da Da had really thrown her for a loop. It brought up so many raw emotions and Isabel sisn’t know how she was going to deal with them.

“Just a second.” She said and walked over and unlocked the door.

Liz walked in and Isabel went back to her bed and sat among the pictures of Alex she had taken out and laid on her bed.

“She looks so much like him.” Isabel said breaking the silence.

“Every day I look at her and I see him.” She continued.

“It’s not fair he isn’t here to see her grow up. He would have been so excited to hear her call him da da, I can just see him with his chest all puffed out.” She said thinking what it would be like.

“Isabel you can’t do this to yourself. Alex wouldn’t want this.” Liz said placing her hand on Isabel’s shoulder.

“Would he want his daughter calling someone else Daddy.” She said quietly.

“He would be happy to know hat someone loved his daughter enough that as a baby she made that mistake.” Liz said.

“Isabel Alex would have loved being Lexie’s father. He would have spoiled her rotten but he’s not here. Lexie doesn’t think Kyle is her father. She just made an association.” Liz said trying to rationalize it for her.

“No, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have put her in a situation where she could assume that someone else was her father.” Isabel said shaking her head.

“Isabel, Lexie will always know who her father is. She will get to know him through stories she hears from you, me, Maria and when the time comes his parents. I have so many stories I’m going to tall her about the type of person Alex was how he always stood up for me. How in the second grade he got himself punched in the nose because Paul Johnson kept pulling my pigtails. He marched right up to him and told him to stop even though Paul was the size of a 10 year old. He was my hero that day. “ Liz said as the memory filtered through her mind.

“Oh Lexie will know her father.” Liz said smiling.

“Your right she will. I am going to make some changes Liz. This will never happen again.” She said determined.

“I mean what was I thinking. I was using Kyle as a substitute for Alex. That’s not fair to him, me, or to these 2 children. It stops now.” Isabel said.

”I don’t think that is what you were doing. It was only natural that you and Kyle would bond. You were in the same situation. Alex would never begrudge you that. He would want you to have someone.”

Isabel shook her head. In her head this was the best solution for everyone. She had been using Kyle as a substitute Alex. In her mind it explained everything away, especially the feelings she had been having the last few days. She knew that the only way to stop this was to distance her and Lexie from Kyle and KJ. It might put Kyle in a bind but in the end it would be best for both of them.

“I’m going home to stay with my parents for a little while.: Isabel said and went to the closet and took out her suit case.

“Isabel don’t do this.” Liz said.

“It won’t be forever but I have to have some distance right now.”

“I’ll be back before Thanksgiving.” She said as she continued packing.

“I think your making a mistake. I’ve run before. It never solves anything.” Liz said.

“This isn’t the same thing. I have to protect my daughter.” Isabel said.

“From what? Kyle’s love?” Liz said trying to make her see she was being rash.

“From losing her father’s memory.”

“That’s never going to happen.” Liz said.

“You’re right and I am going to make sure of that.” She said as she closed her suitcase.

“”Now if you’ll excuse me I have a lot of packing to do.” She said and opened her door.

Maybe Isabel wasn’t ready to deal with this yet but Liz knew what running would do. It wouldn’t solve anything. It would just make things more complicated. She hoped that she would change her mind but deep down she knew you can’t change someone’s mind about something unless they want it to be changed and right now Isabel felt safe running away.

Thanks again for all the great feedback. This next part is all Isabel. I think that you stargazers will like it. It's bitter sweet.

Stronger Together
Part 40

Isabel pulled her car to a stop and turned off the ignition. She had arrived in Roswell a week earlier. Her parents had been very surprised to see her. She had told them that she had been getting homesick and really missed Roswell in the fall. Her father had accepted this explanation immediately but her mother was more skeptical.

“Are you sure that nothings bothering you?” Her mother had asked a few days after she had arrived.

“I knew you wouldn’t just accept that I had come home to see the leaves change.” Isabel had said with a half smile.

“I think I know you a little better then that. You have never been much of a nature buff.” She quipped.

‘I use to love to stargaze.’ She thought to herself but didn’t voice this to her mother.

“So why don’t you tell me the real reason you came home.” Diane said placing her hand on her shoulder.

Isabel handed her mother a hairbrush. Diane took it on instinct and began to comb her daughter’s hair. Isabel closed her eyes as her mother brushed her hair thinking about how innocent things had been the last time her mother had done this.

When she was a little girl she would spend hours with her mother talking and laughing about all sorts of things as her mother brushed her hair. It had always been their time and she loved it because they shared everything. It made her feel like she belonged, but that was before healings, and skins and before her life truly went out of control the day Alex died. She had no control over that event or the events that followed and if she looked deep within herself she had no control over her own feelings but that wasn’t something that she was ready to admit to herself, not yet.

“Alex.” She finally said after her mother had been brushing her hair for a few moments.

“I had a feeling.’ Was all her mother said knowing that the thing her daughter needed from her now was to listen.

“Lexie said Da, da for the first time the other day.” She continued.

“That must have been difficult.” Diane said continuing to brush her hair as she spoke.

“That’s not the half of it. She didn’t just say it. She called Kyle da, da.”

Diane wasn’t surprised by this development. Lexie had never met her father, Kyle had been around from birth and KJ was always calling him Daddy, an adult might make the assumption why not this child.

”You don’t seem surprised.” Isabel said after a few moments of silence. She had expected shock from her mother but there was none.

“I could see how Lexie might have done that Isabel. She hears KJ call Kyle da, da all the time. She just associated the two. I don’t think that she thinks that Kyle is her father.” Diane said trying to soothe her.

“Still it never should have happened.” Isabel said resolutely.

“Is that why you came home, to escape Kyle and keep him away from Lexie?”

Isabel sat silently for a moment.

“Maybe. That’s part of the reason but I think it’s more. I feel like there is something that needs to be done here. Something for Lexie and for Alex.” Isabel explained.

Diane had an idea of what this might be but she knew Isabel needed to figure it out on her own.

“On Tuesday I plan to be home all day. I can stay with Lexie if there is anything that you need to do.” Her mother said.

“Thanks, maybe I’ll take you up on that.”

So here it was Tuesday and she had taken her mother up on her offer. After a quick breakfast at the Crashdown she had driven around until she ended up here. She got out of the car and began walking almost trance like toward her destination. She knew the exact way. She could never forget it. When she reached her destination she stopped.

“Hello, Alex.” She whispered.

It had been a long time since she had visited him in his final resting place. Isabel knew within herself that Alex wasn’t her that his spirit had moved on but still she couldn’t bear to think of him here cold and alone. IT was one of the reasons that she hadn’t come when she arrived in Roswell.

As she looked around she noticed that someone had been taken meticulous care of his gravesite. Weeds and old flowers surrounded many of the other head stones but not Alex’s. Someone had taken great care to weed it out and planet fresh flowers and a small evergreen tree.

“Someone’s been taking good care of you I see.” Isabel remarked.

“I’m sorry I haven’t been to see you sooner. You know how I feel about this place. I know your not really here and that if I need to talk to you I can just do it anywhere but something drew mw here today.”

“Lexie is getting so big. She crawls and is even starting to pull up and stand. It’s amazing how fast they grow. She reminds me so much of you. She looks a lot like me because she has my hair coloring but her expressions are all yours and her eyes that were blue at birth are the same shade of brown that yours were. The other day she was trying to get something and it was out of her reach. Maria, Liz and I were watching here and she got this look on her face. We all gave a little Gasp and Maria said that look is pure Alex. She proceeded to grab a toy and throw it at the little rattle she wanted in frustration. It was adorable.” Isabel said with a laugh.

“And her smile well she definitely has the Whitman grin and your brains too.”

”Oh Alex I wish you were here.” She said with a sigh.

Isabel sat in silence for a few moments thinking about why she had really come.

“You know she said da, da the other day.” Isabel whispered.

“She said it to Kyle.” She paused.

“ I freaked. I know that it’s not Kyle’s fault. He has been so good to her. He delivered her for goodness sake but in that moment I was so angry with him. I was angry because he was here to be called Da, Da and you weren’t. I know it’s wrong and irrational.” She said as tears began to fill her eyes.

“I left the next day with out even a word to him. He is probably really angry. I left him in a tough spot with KJ and all. It’s just that he’s not her father you are. It’s not his fault. I leaned on Kyle and he leaned on me. I let him be fatherly to her. It never dawned on me she would think he was her father. I tell her all the time about you and the time we spent together. Every night she hears stories of nights spent under the stars gazing at the stars but how can the few stories I have compete with Kyle who’s here and loves her like she’s his own.”

Isabel sat quietly and cried after she made her confession. She buried her head in her hands. She felt so lost, so empty and then she felt something cold hit her hands. She removed her head from her hands and found it was snowing.

“It’s a little early for snow in Roswell. Is this you’re way of letting me know that you know I’m here?” She said with a smile.

“Alex loved the snow. It just might be a sign.” A woman’s voice said from behind her.

Isabel was startled. She turned to find a woman in her forties with dark brown hair and brown eyes standing before her. She knew immediately that it was Abigail Whitman Alex’s mother. She had only met the woman a few times but Alex had her eyes and she would know those eyes anywhere.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you Isabel.” Abigail Whitman said seeing the surprise on Isabel’s face.

“I could come back later if you would like.” She added.

“No, please stay.” Isabel said.

“I usually come on Thursdays but something just drew me here today.” She said as she began to pull a stray weed that must have sprouted while Isabel was there.

“It’s been so hard these last few months. I miss him so much.” She said her voice cracking.

“I know. I miss him too.” Isabel said in a whisper.

“He would have been happy to know you were here.” She said smiling faintly.

“How are you Isabel?” Mrs. Whitman asked as she took a seat next to Isabel.

“I’m fine. I haven’t been here for a while because I left Roswell.” She said feeling the need to explain why she hadn’t been to Alex’s resting place in so long.

“It’s ok Isabel. We all have to move on. I guess it’s different for mothers though. I don’t think we ever do. Alex was my baby. We tried for so long to conceive another child after Alex’s sister was born. It took us 2 years I had almost given up hope and then one day I was in the supermarket and I got dizzy and fell. They rushed me to the hospital and after running some tests they told me I was pregnant. It wasn’t an easy pregnancy but Alex was a survivor and I always told everyone he was meant to be.” She said with a sad smile.

“His sister and father adored him and spoiled him rotten but he never took advantage of it. Except once.” She said laughing as the memory.

“He was about 4. Alex decided that it would be a good idea to have cookies for breakfast. He came and logically explained to me how Cookies were good breakfast food because they included many of the things people eat for breakfast, eggs, milk, and butter. He had it all worked out. He didn’t convince me but he took his appeal to his father. Of course his father thought it was brilliant and what do I find the next morning? Alex, Sarah and my husband eating cookies for breakfast.” She said laughing.

“He was clever.” She said shaking her head.
“ Oh listen to me going on about my memories. You must be bored to tears.” She said placing her hand on her shoulder.

“You’ll see when you become a mother you just can’t stop talking about your kids.”

Isabel sat watching Abigail as she spoke about her son. Telling her things that she had never known about Alex and then she knew. It was time and Alex knew it. It’s why she had been drawn to Roswell. It’s the reason the two of them were standing here right now. Alex wanted it this way.

“No I don’t mind at all. I love hearing stories about Alex.” She said with a smile.

“Mrs. Whitman…” Isabel began.

“Please call me Abigail.” She interrupted.

“Abigail. Do you know why I left Roswell?” She asked.

“To go to college I assume. I vaguely remember hearing you had moved to Las Cruces to attend the State University. You’ll have to forgive me. I was quite out of it after Alex’s death. I couldn’t stand to be near things that reminded me of him. So I left to go stay with my daughter Sarah in Texas. She goes to Texas A&M.”

“Why dear is there another reason you left?” She asked.

“Yes.” Isabel replied

“And if you come with me I’ll show you the reason why.” She said with a smile.

For some reason Abigail knew that she should go with Isabel. So without questioning her further she agreed.

“Ok. I’ll follow you in my car.” She said.

As they reached their cars and got in the snow abruptly stopped and Isabel smiled.

“I love you Alex.” She whispered and drove away.

*********************&************************************************
Isabel pulled her car into the driveway and waited as Abigail Whitman parked her car.
She looked at herself in the rearview mirror. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying and she looked drained.

She sighed as she put the mirror back into its original position. It had been a long couple of days and it was about to get tougher.
When she had found out she was pregnant she had thought about telling Alex’s parents. She thought it might help them but she didn’t know how she was going to explain anything Alien that might arise with her pregnancy. She debated it with herself over and over and in the end Abigail Whitman had made her decision for her by leaving Roswell. That didn’t mean that Isabel hadn’t thought about it since, she had. It was always in her mind.

Lost in her thoughts Isabel didn’t notice Abigail Whitman walk up alongside her car until she heard a tap on the window. She opened the car door and got out.

‘How am I going to do this? I can’t just spring it on her.’ Isabel thought now that they were standing a few feet away from the front door.

“Before we go in I want you to know that I love Alex very much.” Isabel said.

“I know dear. He loved you very much also.” She said smiling at the young girl her son had always spoke of with such affection.

“But Isabel what does that have to do with you bringing me here. I am a little confused.” Abigail added.

“There is someone I want you to meet. Someone Alex would want you to meet.” Isabel said and opened the front door.

Curious as to who was inside Abigail followed close behind.

“Mom, I’m back.” Isabel yelled for her mother when she entered the house.

Abigail looked around the room. It was nicely decorated in a traditional theme but what surprised her was the changing table and baby swing in the corner. As far as she knew Diane Evans didn’t have any other children besides Max and Isabel let alone an Infant.

“Oh Isabel, good your back.” Her mother said as she walked in to the living room from the kitchen wiping her hands on a dish towel.

She stopped suddenly when she realized that they were not alone and a half-smile crossed her lips.

“I didn’t know that you had brought someone back with you Isabel.” She said smiling.

“Mom, You remember Mrs. Whitman.” Isabel said making the introductions.

“”Please call me Abigail.” She said as she shook Diane’s hand.

“You have a beautiful home. I must say I am a little curious to why Isabel has brought me here though.”

“I think that the answer to your question is in the kitchen.” Diane said giving her daughter a knowing look.

Isabel didn’t say another word and headed for the kitchen. Without thinking Abigail followed her. She entered and found Isabel standing in front of a high chair
.
“Hello sweetie. There is someone I want you to meet.” She whispered as she bent down to pick Lexie up.

The first thought that crossed her mind was that she had no idea that Isabel had a child but that all changed when she got a glimpse of the child. She gasped and stepped backwards. She looked at the baby. She looked at those eyes. She knew those eyes. Those were her Alex’s eyes. The eyes that she had first gazed into when he was born, the eyes that had filled with tears when his pet goldfish had died, the eyes that had shown with such pride when he had won the 8th grade technology award, the eyes that she had not seen in over a year.

“Alex.” She said.

The voice startled Isabel. She hadn’t realized that Abigail had followed her into the kitchen. She looked at her face and knew that she didn’t need to explain anything because Abigail already knew.

“Mrs. Whitman I would like for you to meet Alexandra Whitman Evans or we like to call her Lexie for short.” Isabel said tears rolling down her face.

“She’s beautiful.” She said as she inched closer to her.

“Lexie, I would like for you to meet your Grandmother.” She said locking her eyes with Abigail’s.

“Could I hold her?” Abigail managed to croak out through her tears.

“ I can’t believe it she looks so much like him.” She said as she looked down at her granddaughter and watched as she sucked on her index finger.

“Alex, used to do the same thing. He never wanted to suck on his thumb, only his index finger.” She said as she laughed.

“I wondered where that came from.” Isabel said with a smile.

“I wanted to tell you sooner but when I found out I was so scared I didn’t even tell my own parents for a while and then by that time you had already left Roswell.”

“It’s ok Isabel. It must have been hard for you going through this alone.” She said holding on to the baby so tightly as if she were afraid if she didn’t she would disappear.

“I have my family. I just wish that Alex could be here.”

“He would have adored her. He loved children especially babies. You have no idea how much this means to me. How much it will mean to my husband and Alex’s sister. You’ve just given us a piece of Alex back and for that there are no words to thank you.”
Isabel smiled back at her and wrapped her arms around herself. This is what she had come home for. This is what Alex wanted her to do. His family was the link to his childhood. Lexie had a link to her Father’s past now all her Mother needed to do was figure out her own future.

This part is pretty long so I am going to post it in 2 parts. The part will immediatly continue in the next post. Part of the first part was posted before the boards went down so it might seem familiar but there is new stuff too.
Stronger together Part 41

Kyle awoke the next morning on the couch in the living room, with a terrible pounding in his head. He tried to focus his eyes on the cable box clock and when it finally came in to focus it read 11:00.

‘Damn I can’t believe I slept the whole morning away. Thank God Maria had KJ last night.’ He thought to himself.

Slowly he got up from the couch and headed for the Kitchen because he was dying of thirst. The house was empty and he was thankful he didn’t have to deal with anyone right now. He didn’t need anyone to lecture him about drinking, especially since he suddenly was beginning to remember why he rarely did it.

When he reached the refrigerator he found a note on the door.

Kyle,
Your Dad picked up KJ this morning.
He said you had arranged it and as
I couldn’t wake you I took his word
on it. I packed him a bag and your Dad
said he wanted you to call him.
Maria
P.S. My herbal remedy for hangovers is in the
Blue pitcher if you want to try it. Drink one
Glass and I guarantee you will feel better.

‘Damn his father knew he had been drinking. This was not going to be a fun conversation.’

Kyle opened the Refrigerator door and eyed the Blue pitcher hesitantly. God only knew what was in that concoction of Maria’s.

He rubbed his temples with his fingers and decided that it couldn’t hurt. He grabbed a glass and pored the remedy in it. It was green and smelled like a freshly cut lawn.

“ Is she trying to kill me?”

Feeling his head begin to throb again he decided to give it a try. He held his nose closed his eyes and chugged. His face contorted as the remedy slid down his throat.

“Man that was gross.’ He said shaking his head.

He sat with his head in his hands waiting for the throbbing headache to return but after a few moments he realized it wasn’t coming back.

“Hey not bad. Maria should market this stuff. We could be rich.”

He eyed the kitchen telephone and thought about calling his father. He looked at the clock 11:30, the perfect time to call. He knew his father’s routine and he knew that right about now he was heading into the crashdown for lunch and the fact that he had KJ with him meant that he wouldn’t be back for at least 2 hours because Nancy Parker would be spoiling him rotten.

Kyle dialed the number and waited for the machine to pick up.

“Hi dad, it’s Kyle. Sorry I missed you this morning. I’m just calling to see how KJ is doing. I’ll check in later. Bye.”

Kyle placed the receiver back on the hook and breathed a sigh of relief. He didn’t have time to deal with his father’s lectures right now. He had other things on his mind, like why Maria and Michael were so insistent that he go and see his mother.

He headed up the stairs toward the shower and then a confrontation with his long lost mother.

1************************************************************************
Kyle looked at the piece of paper 24 North Bare Lane. He remembered when his father had given it to him. He had been sitting sullenly in his room thinking about his mother’s betrayal and his father had knocked on the door. He said nothing at first just sat next to him and placed his hand on his shoulder.

“This is where she is if you want to see her.” Was all he had said and the he got up to leave.

Kyle’s initial reaction was to throw it away or better yet burn it, but he hadn’t. He had folded it neatly and placed it under his socks in his dresser. He never believed he would use it but here he was.

He pulled his car in front of the address turned off the engine and headed for the house.

Kyle thought he would be hesitant but now that the moment was here that wasn’t what he felt at all. No he felt anticipation. Maybe he needed to do this more then he realized. Maybe he needed to put the past to rest so that he could move on with the future.

He rang the bell and waited a few moments before he heard the sound of someone coming to the door. He watched almost as if in slow motion the doorknob turned, the door opened and his mother appeared before him.

Kyle flashed back on the last time he had seen her.

“Today is a special day Kyle. You are going to meet someone very special.” She said bending down and helping him put on his backpack.

“Who?” A 7-year-old Kyle begged.

“It’s a surprise.” She said with a smile.

“Have fun at school and I’ll see you later. I love you.” She said and then kissed him as she walked him to the school bus.

The last thing that Kyle remembered was watching her wave as the bus pulled away.

The first thing that he thought was that she looked exactly the same. It had been years and yet she still had the same dark brown hair and loving eyes. It angered Kyle. No one who had abandoned their child should have that look of kindness and love in their eyes.

Kristiana opened her mouth in stunned shock. She had thought Rian had forgotten his keys again. She had never expected to find Kyle standing there.

“Kyle.” She said in shock.

“Glad to see you still recognize me.” He said the sound of anger clearly evident in his voice.

“I would always know who you were.”

“Could have fooled me.” He said under his breath.

“Do you want to come in?”

“I guess that would be best. We wouldn’t want to air our dirty alien laundry right here on the front porch.”

She moved out of the way to allow him entrance to the house. He walked into the large living area. Kristiana followed him closely behind.

“Please have a seat. Can I get you anything, a soda, Snapple, an oatmeal raisin cookie?” She asked remembering all the times she had baked those for him.

“I haven’t had one of those since the day you left.” He said matter-of-factly.

The words hit her like daggers and she could feel the tears begin to build in the corner of her eyes. She took a deep breath. She was determined to be strong. Kyle needed to say his peace and she needed to tell him why she had left. Breaking down would not help either of them.

“So how is Kyle James?” She said after a few moments of silence.

“He’s fine. Not that you would care.”

“Kyle that’s not true, I do care.”

“You could have fooled me but that’s not why I’m here. I’m here for answers.”

“Well I’m here to give them to you. Kyle you have to know that I would never just abandon you.” She began.

Kyle chuckled. “Funny because that is exactly what you did.”

“I know that it seems that way but the truth is I was trying to protect you.”

“Protect me? Protect me how? How does leaving me protect me? Because all it did was open me to a whole lot of pain. I sure as hell didn’t feel protected.”

“If you give me a chance to explain maybe we can come to an understanding.” She said taking a deep breath.

In a way this conversation was harder then the one she had with Michael. Michael’s abandonment issues came from within. Until he found out about her he didn’t know why he felt them he just did but with Kyle the wounds were on the surface and though they might have healed somewhat over the years her return had ripped them open again. He was her everything and she knew that he had felt the same way.

“I understand you’re angry.” She began.

“I’m glad you Understand my Anger! I’m glad you can see it from my point of view but can you feel it? Can you feel what it felt like when I came home and found my strong father broken on the couch? Can you feel what it felt like at little league games when other moms were there to cheer their sons on and I looked in the crowd and never saw you? Do you feel what it was like for me to go through countless Mother’s day events without a mother? Do you know what the holidays were like? Do you? That single decision you made changed my whole childhood and it wasn’t for the better.”

Kyle released years of pain anguish and pent up emotion in those moments. Everything that he had felt growing up came bubbling to the surface and even with the anger there was sadness and when he had finished his tirade he placed his face in his hands and willed himself not to cry.

Kristiana sat on the couch bewildered. She knew it had been hard for him. She had seen it in his dreams. Before they had forbid her from visiting him there. Antar had ruined her life and her sons and in that moment she cursed her heritage.

“I’m sorry Kyle. I never wanted to leave you. I had to protect you. I had to keep you safe.” She said chocking back sobs.

“Protect me from what?” He said lifting his head out of his hands.

“Didn’t Michael tell you anything?” She asked confussed.

“Michael? What the hell does Michael have to do with any of this?”

“He came to see me. I explained… He didn’t tell you.”

Kyle was confused. What did Michael have to do with any of this? Why did Michael go to see his mother? Was this why he was pushing so hard for him to come see her?

This was going to be hard. She had waited for years to be reunited with Michael her talk had been more of a reunion. With Kyle it was different. This was the reason she had left him and she didn’t know by any stretch of the imagination what his reaction would be.

“Do you remember the day I left?”

“How could I forget it is burned in my memory.”

“Do you remember that I told you I was going to be bringing someone to meet you?”

“So, What’s your point?”

Kristiana sighed at his hostility. This wasn’t the relationship that she had wanted with her son. Every time she looked at him all she saw was hurt and anger and it was all their fault. If Kivar was in front of her right now she would kill him with her bare hands.

“It was Michael.” She said finally.

“Michael? Why would you want me to meet Michael? Please don’t tell me Rath was your great-grandfather or something because that would just to weird for words.”

“No, Michael and us are not related by blood but we are connected.”

“Aside from being connected to you through Rath, how could Michael be connected to us?” Kyle asked.

“This would be a lot easier to explain if you let me show you.” She said touching his hand.

Kyle flinched back from her touch. He had told himself no physical contact because he could be strong if he viewed her as the enemy, someone to stay away from but if she touched him he would remember she was his mother. He would remember all of the good times they had shared and he didn’t want to remember those because then he would remember the love. He would remember the love that he felt for her and he didn’t think he could handle that.

Kristiana’s heart broke when she felt her son pull away from her touch and again she cursed Kivar and Antar but she was not deterred. She wanted a relationship with her sons and the only way to start one was to show Kyle the truth. It was her only chance.

“Kyle, please I know that I hurt you I’m sorry but if you let me show you, you might just understand a little.”

“How do I know that you won’t be lying to me? You could just send me images you want me to see. I know what Antarians can do.” He said as he tried to avoid meeting her eyes.

“Kyle, you’re my son. We already have a connection. I know that you can feel it. You just choose to ignore it. If I was lying you would know it.”

She was right as much as he tried to ignore it the connection was there. It had always been there, even when she was gone. It had only gotten stronger since she had returned and with her just inches from him it was the strongest since he was a child. His eyes began to fill with tears as he allowed the connection to open up a little. He could feel her love, her pain and her guilt. He closed his eyes pushing back the tears and shook his head. He didn’t want to feel these things. He didn’t want to know that she loved him it just made it harder.

Kristiana could feel his pain she felt his conflicting feelings and it tore a whole in her heart. She had done this, even if she had been forced to do it she had been the one to bring her son so much pain and she hated herself for it.

“Kyle.”

She placed her hands on either side of his face but this time he did not flinch at her touch. Instead he sat there his eyes shut tight telling himself this wasn’t happening, but it was and the longer he sat there feeling the warmth of his mother’s touch the more he realized that he didn’t want to resist it. It was with this realization that he gave into it and opened his eyes.

Kristiana felt the moment he let down his wall. She felt the connection that was like a dull buzzing in her head fully open and pull her in. Kyle was letting her in. He wanted her to see what his life had been like without her and she did. She saw everything through his eyes.

She saw how he had felt about her before she left. She was his world.

She saw his reaction to finding out that she was gone, denial.

She felt him slowly lose the hope that she would return and then came the anger.

She tried to send feelings of love to him as he was showing her these images but he pushed passed them and focused on letting her see that the event that changed his life more than anything else was not finding out that aliens existed, but it was losing her.

She began to cry as the full reality of what she had done hit her. Her hands pressed against his cheeks relishing in the warmth of her child’s skin that she had not touched in so long. Again she thought how sorry she was for leaving him.

“You should have thought about my feelings long before now. Sorry just doesn’t make up for it.” He said to her sensing what she was feeling.

“Kyle I’m sorry. I truly am sorry I need for you to see why I did what I did.”

She closed her eyes and willed herself to remember and show him.

*******************Flash************************
She and Jim had gone out and his father had shown up claiming she was an alien.

“Jim, your father has nothing to do with you. I don’t care about him, I care about you.” She said waiting for his reaction.

He reached over and took her hand.

“You do?” He said.

She lifted her head and her eyes met his.

“Yes.” She said softly.

“He lifted her chin with his finger and lowered his lips on to her. It was sweet, tender and the most romantic kiss she had ever experienced.

“Can I see you tomorrow?” He asked

“I would like that.” She said. He placed a gentle kiss on her hand and she got out of the car.
**************************FLASH*******************************

Jim, I have something to tell you.” She said biting her lower lip.

“What is it Chrissy?” He asked as he looked over some paper work.

“I’m late.” She said biting her lower lip waiting for his reaction.

“Honey I’m sure Nancy will understand you weren’t feeling well. You have been friends forever she’s not going to mind if you’re a little late.” He said and returned to his paperwork.

She rolled her eyes and sighed.

“Jim focus.” She said waving her hands.

“I’m not late to meet Nancy I am late late.” She said emphasizing the last two lates.

“What are you saying?” He said forgetting about his paperwork and walking over to her.

“I think were going to have a baby.” She said with a huge smile.

“A baby, I can’t believe it a baby.” He said as a huge smile spread across his face.

“I love you, both of you.” He said as he touched her belly and placed a kiss on her lips.

*************************FLASH*********************************

The scene changed and they were at a doctor’s office.

Slowly she turned the knob to the lab door. She was surprised to find it locked and used her powers to open it. Her father and Sarah were obviously hiding something and she was going to find out what it was.

What she saw when the door swung open was not what she expected.

There on the table was a large pod. It was clearly damaged and had a tube circulating fluid out of it and new fluid into it. She knew it must be one of the pods her father had come to look after but what was it doing here? She stood there in silence for a few moments before the two others noticed her.

“Chrissy! What are you doing in here?” He father asked.

“I…I…” She tried to speak but her eyes were fixated on the pod was that an embryo she saw in there.

“Is that one of them?” She managed to finally say.

“Yes.” Lets go to my office we need to talk.

Kristiana followed her father down the hall towards his office followed closely by Sarah.

When they arrived they all sat around the round conference table.

“Yes, Chrissy that is one of the pods. It was damaged in the crash in 47. Up until now we have been able to sustain the life in side it because the being was going through cell division. Now that it is growing as a human baby it is putting a lot of pressure on the sac. That is why it is leaking all of that fluid.” He explained.

“Can you fix it?” She asked her heart in her throat. She had heard stories about the royal four and how they would save Antar. It would be a major blow to the planet if they lost one of them but that wasn’t why she was upset. No when she looked at that pod she saw an embryo. A human embryo and the thought that it might be lost made her heartache.

“We can fix the pod but we have to remove the sac from the pod to do it.” Her father explained a hint of sadness in his voice.

“So do it.” She said.

“The embryo will not survive for long without the insulation of the pod.” He explained.

“That’s where you can help.” Sarah spoke for the first time.

“Me? How can I help?” She asked surprised.

“The embryo is at the same stage of development as your child. If we removed the sac we could implant it in your uterus next to your child where it would get the nutrients it needs to survive. By the time you are ready to give birth the sack will rupture and the pod will be ready for the child to be placed in.” Sarah explained.

Kristiana sat in stunned silence. Were they really asking her to do this? She didn’t want anything to happen to the royal four but could she do this?

“Would it be safe for my child?” She asked.

“Oh Chrissy yes. It would be as if you were carrying fraternal twins. 2 babies in separate sacs. I wouldn’t even consider this if I thought something could happen to my first grandchild.” He father said placing his hand on hers.

Kristiana knew what she was going to do. If her child was assured to be ok she would help save the life of this other child. It was what she knew she had to do.

“I’ll do it.” She said.

*********************FLASH********************

Kristiana has just woken up and she places her hand on her belly. How are my 2 angels this morning?

She laughs as she feels a Strong kick from one side and a rolling sensation from the other. “That’s what I thought.” She said with a laugh.

*********************FLASH***********************************

Kristiana looked at the clock near her bedside 4 Am. She couldn’t sleep. All she could think about was that in a few hours her father and Sarah were going to take her baby and put it in some cold pod. The thoughts sent shivers down her spine. She couldn’t let that happen to her little fighter.

She made her decision she was leaving. She was going to Massachusetts. She could hide out there till her babies were born. Once she had both of them she would come back. Then people would think she had twins and her father would have to let her keep them. She would leave Jim a note saying she wanted to go visit some friends before the baby came. After she got there she would call and tell him she had an episode and the doctor had advised he not to travel. He would understand.

She wrote the note and placed it on the nightstand and headed for the door suitcase in hand.

When she opened it she found her father standing there.

“I had a feeling you might try something like this.” He said as he took the suitcase from her hand.

“I am not giving up my baby.” She said.

“Your right. You aren’t giving up your baby. Your baby will be safe in your womb for another month but the royal baby must go back with the other royals.” He said.

“No. This baby is as much mine as the other one. I won’t let you take it.” She yelled as she cried.

“You have no choice honey. This child has a destiny to be with the other three. We can not interfere.” He said.

“No!! We have already interfered. This child is different it knows a mothers love and warmth, you can not take it from such a place and put it in that damn cold pod!”

“I have to. You’re hysterical. You can’t make these decisions. It’s not up to you.” He said as he reached over and placed his hand on her forehead.”

“What are you do…” she began to say and then everything went black
************************Flash**************************************

Kristiana was back at her Father’s office. She was still visibly pregnant.

Sarah came in the room with a small bundle and handed the baby to Kristiana. A burst of love unlike she had ever felt coursed through her veins.

“Your perfect.” She whispered as she kissed the top of the baby’s head that was covered with a little hat.

**************************Flash*********************************

Chrissy what are you doing?” He demanded.

***********************Flash*********************************
They are at Roswell General hospital.
Kristiana is in excruciating agony.

“Christine, you have to push.” A woman doctor says.

“Come on Chrissy you can do it.” Jim says as he squeezes her hand in a show of support.

She let out a loud yell and gave one last push and the baby was out. Suddenly the room was alive with activity. The doctor was cutting the umbilical cord, Jim was yelling it’s a boy and snapping pictures but she was focused on one thing her baby. This life that she had created with Jim.

They placed the baby on her chest and she wept. He was beautiful, with a small tuft of light brown hair and pink rosy cheeks. She held him close to her chest and nursed him for the first time. Their eyes met and she knew that no one was taking this child from her. They would have to kill her first.

The last flash and the emotion he felt from it was more then Kyle could take. He knew that feeling. It was how he felt ever since first seeing KJ. He knew that he would never leave KJ willingly. His mother had felt that way about him. He knew it. He felt it. So how could she leave him?

He couldn’t take it any longer and he broke the connection.

“Kyle…” She began.

“No don’t.” He said putting his hand up to stop her from speaking.

“How could you? I felt the way you felt about me. I know it wasn’t a lie. How could you leave me?” He said tears stinging his eyes as the vulnerable hurt child within him came to the surface.

“I have a son. I would do anything for him. I would never leave him.” Kyle said not trying to hold back his anger or his tears any longer.

“Oh yeah to protect me.” He said sarcastically when he saw her about to respond.

“How did leaving me alone without you protect me. I was devastated. I was 6 years old and you were gone and Dad… I had to be strong for him. Do you know what your leaving did to him? It destroyed him. You didn’t only leave me without a mother you took my father for a while as well. Do you know what that was like? I was six years old damn it. No six year old should have to deal with that.”

Kristiana wrapped her arms around her stomach and tried to control her emotions. seeing Kyle’s pain, feeling it was one of the most difficult things she had ever experienced.

“They would have killed you.” She managed to say.

“Who, Kivar, aliens from another planet?”

“They knew that someone had carried one of the royal four. They were getting close. They would have found me. They would have found you. I couldn’t let that happen.”

“So you decided that you would take the easy way out and leave.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision for me to make. They would have assumed you were the one I carried and they would have taken you and when they figured out you weren’t the one they wanted they would have killed you.” She said the anguish evident in he voice.

“We’ve been eight teenagers and we have been handling ourselves ok. You were an adult.”

“You’ve lost Alex and Tess. I couldn’t take the chance of them hurting you or Michael. I just wouldn’t put you in harms way. My brother told me that if I disappeared he would erase my existence. They would never be able to find you. I had to make that sacrifice. Wouldn’t you do the same for KJ?”

Kyle sat there with his head in his hands. He was visible drained and he didn’t believe he could fight anymore.

“I would find a way for us to be together.”

“My brother showed me what they would do to you and Michael. It was horrible. Those poor children.” She said choking back the sobs.

“You could have told Dad. He would never let anything happen to us. He would have made sure I was safe and Michael too. He would have loved him as if he was his own son.”

Kyle looked at his mother and something he had never felt for her before swept over him, pity. She was a broken woman. She had lost her children and her husband. It had been her choice but nonetheless she had lost them. In her mind she wasn’t wrong and Kyle knew that there was no use fighting. It wouldn’t change anything. Inside he would always be the vulnerable, scared, angry and abandoned little boy. It had shaped whom he was and nothing was going to change that. He knew that his mother would always regret what she had done but that she would always believe that she had made the right decision.

“The funny thing is Dad does love Michael like a son. It would have been a different life, for all of us but that chance is gone now.”

“Kyle it was the only choice I had.”

“I know that you believe that and I don’t hate you anymore. But I don’t know if I can ever forgive you either. It’s been a long time and the past can’t be changed.”

“If you can’t forgive me for the past do you think that you might be able to try and start here and now? I know that what ever else you might think you know that I love you.”

“I don’t know. It’s been a long time and I don’t know if I can open myself up to you again.” He said as he got up and walked towards the door.”

But I’ll try, for KJ. He’s lost enough in his life. He should get to know his grandmother.”

Kyle opened the door and took one more look at his mother. He had come full of anger and was leaving with a sense of peace. He had learned a lot and knew that he would have to deal with it but as he closed the door behind him he knew that he had done the right thing by coming.

As promised here is the next part. Hope you like it.

Stronger Together

Part 42
Kyle looked at the road in front of him and watched the sunset in front of him. The oranges, reds and even purple hues were breathtaking. He had forgotten how beautiful the sun setting in the desert sky could be.

It had been a long day filled with revelations. He had ended his hatred of his mother that day and released all the anger and resentment within him. He had to admit it felt good. He now knew why she had left and though he didn’t agree with the decisions she made he no longer hated her for them. She believed that she was doing what was right for her son.

“Both of her son’s.” He whispered to himself as he shook his head.

He still couldn’t believe it. For all intense purposes Michael was his twin brother. He didn’t know what to do with that information. Michael Guerin was his brother. Sure he had always hung with Michael more than Max but he had always thought it was just because for a long time he hated Max and once Alex was gone there was no other male in the group, but maybe there was more to it.

As he grappled with the thoughts in his minds he was pulled from those thoughts by a realization of where he was. He was at the route Marker for the pod chamber.

He hadn’t realized he was heading towards Roswell. He had just driven not intending to really go anywhere but here he was. He pulled the car off the main road and followed the path he had been down only a few times before.

He turned off the engine when he reached the destination and just sat in the car staring at the rock formation before him. No one would ever suspect what was hidden within those rocks, what had taken place within the hidden chamber. He had mixed emotions about this place. This was where he had lost his first love but this was also where he had received his greatest joy, his son.

As he got out of the car he remembered the last time he had been here. The night KJ had come into his life and the night Tess had been taken from him. He knew he could not come here and not visit her final resting place. As he climbed the rock formation tears began to build in the corners of his eyes.

He walked up to the rock wall and placed his hand on it. Almost instantly a silver handprint glowed beneath his own and the door opened.

He entered quickly and the door closed behind him. It was exactly as he remembered it. The pods hung where they always had still giving off there other worldly glow and through one he could see the glowing of the granolith.

He walked off to the side where they had buried Tess that day. Michael had taken a stone and with his powers engraved the name Tess and underneath it Loving Mother. Kyle Sat down Next to the stone and let his fingers run over the words and then he cried. He cried for the love he lost, the future he would never have and the Mother that KJ would never know.

“I wish you were here.” He whispered when he had calmed a little.

“KJ is getting so big. I can’t believe it sometimes.” He said as he shook his head.

“I brought you something.”

Kyle reached into his wallet and pulled out a picture of KJ. He was wearing a denim baseball hat and denim overalls with a dark blue short-sleeved shirt and was holding a baseball in one hand and a glove in the other. He remembered the day the picture had been taken.
Isabel had been taking Lexie every month to have her picture taken at Sears and had been badgering him to do the same.

“What is KJ going to say when he grows up and there are all of these pictures of Lexie and none of him.”

Kyle shook his head and laughed at her. They had had this conversation for the last 2 months but she was still insisting.

“KJ’s a boy. Pictures are for girls. Trust me he will be fine.”

Isabel folded her arms in front of her chest. Kyle saw the fire in her eyes and knew he was in for it.

“You listen to me Kyle Valenti.” She began shouting.

“You are going to go up those stairs open KJ’s closet find an adorable outfit and put it on that child. Pictures are not only for girls. They are for all children and I am telling you that when KJ is older he is going to be hurt that you never took him to have his picture taken.”

“I have plenty of pictures. I take them all the time.”

“Kyle have you looked at these pictures? In this one his head is cut off and this one is so far away that you can’t even make out it’s a baby.”

“What does he need all of these pictures for anyway? He only needs a few to see what he looked like anyway.”

“When KJ grows up and finds a nice girl to marry they are going to have a wedding and they are going to have a wedding video and they will need baby pictures, lots of them.” She said matter-of-factly.

“There see it’s for you girls.” He said as if he had proven his point.

“Kyle we are done here. Be ready in 15 minutes.” She said as she turned wiping her hair behind her.

Kyle began to protest but she stopped him.

“15 minutes and no excuses understand.”

Defeated he picked up his son and headed towards the stairs.

“See, KJ this is what happens when a woman nags you to death, eventually you just give in.” He whispered to his son as he walked up the stairs.

“I heard that.” Isabel yelled and Kyle quickly ran up the stairs.

Isabel had been right and the pictures had come out great. They had gone out for Ice cream afterward and Isabel had yelled at him for giving some to KJ.

‘God she was so beautiful when she was angry.’ He thought and before the thought had crossed his mind he was berating himself for even thinking it, here of all places. He ran his hands over his face and turned his attention back to Tess’s resting place.

“This is a picture of KJ. He has your eyes. Maria always says that there is no mistaking that he is your son because his eyes are identical to yours. We made a beautiful baby Tess and I just want to say Thank You. He’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. I never knew that I could love like this and I’m sorry that your not here to be with us.”

Kyle placed the picture next to the stone.

“He’ll always know who his mother is. I love you Tess. I always will.”

*************************************************8******************

Kyle got back in his car and continued driving. A short time later he found himself driving down Murray Lane. It was late and he wondered if he should get out and ring the bell. His decision was made for him when Isabel emerged from the house carrying a bag of garbage.

“Hey, you never take out the garbage at our house.” He yelled out the window.

“Kyle?”

“What are you doing here?” She asked surprised to see him.

“I needed to see you.”

He hadn’t realized it until now but it was the truth. From the moment that everything had happened with his Mom he had wanted nothing more than to find Isabel and tell her everything.

“Oh my God, what’s wrong? Is it KJ? Max?” She said afraid that something might be wrong.

Kyle got out of the car and walked towards Isabel.

“Nothings wrong. I needed someone to talk to. I went to see my Mom.”

Isabel visibly relaxed.

“Are you ok?”

“Surprisingly yes. As much as I tried to resist it I needed to see her.”

Isabel was glad that he had gone to see his mother she had always believed that he needed to do it but she also knew that he needed to do it in his own time.

“Let’s go on the porch so we can sit down and you can tell me what happened.”

Isabel and Kyle went to the porch. Isabel opened the front door and found her father standing there.

“I was just coming to check on you.” He said.

“Kyle dropped by and we are going to talk for a while.”

“Hi Kyle. I didn’t know you were in Roswell.”

“My Dad and Amy have KJ, so I thought I would come back home for a few days.”

“Nice to see you again.”

“You too.” Kyle said with a nod of the head.

“Ok sweetie, I’ll let you two talk. I’ll see you later.”

He kissed her on the forehead and went back inside.

“Sorry about that. He still thinks I’m 12.”

“I think it’s nice. If I had a daughter I probably wouldn’t want her outside alone at night either.”

After realizing what he had said Kyle wanted to smack himself. She had left because she wanted to get her daughter away from his fatherly influence and with in the first 15 minutes what does he do he goes and mentions it.

Isabel stiffened slightly at Kyle’s comment but then mentally reprimanded herself.

‘He’s only making conversation. He wasn’t talking about Lexie.’

“Well I’m not alone. I am with you and I want to hear all about what happened with your mom so spill.”

Kyle explained to her what had transpired between he and his mother. He told her about his grandfather and how he had asked her to carry Michael and how she had wanted to keep him but he was torn from her arms. He told her about how his mother was going to go get Michael and raise them together after he had been found but when she learned that the skins and Kivar were about to learn his whereabouts because of her she had made the decision to leave.

When Kyle had finished Isabel was in tears.

“That must have been the most difficult decision that your mother has ever had to make.”

Kyle sighed. “I know and I don’t blame her for it anymore but there is a part of me that can’t forgive her because I know if it was KJ I would have found a way to make it work.”

“So what do you think will happen with the 2 of you now?”

“I don’t know. I would like to have a relationship with her. The six years I had with her were good years. I blocked that out. I guess it was because if I remembered how good it was it would hurt even more.”

“I can understand that. When we were going to leave that day I began to mentally try and not remember how wonderful my parents were and how much I really loved my life here. I thought if I could put it out of my mind I could move on.”

Kyle looked up at the sky as he remembered that day.

“God that seems like so long ago.”

“I know what you mean. We are only starting our twenties and I feel like we have lived a whole lifetime already.”

Kyle grinned at her. “Technically you have. You don’t look bad for someone who’s probably at least 100.”

Isabel stood up in mock outrage. “ I can clearly see how you and Michael could be twins.”

Kyle laughed. He loved the easy banter that they had with each other.

“Don’t let Guerin know I said this but it’s obvious I got all the looks and the charm.”

Together they laughed at that and then Isabel asked the question that had been plaguing her since Kyle had told her his mother’s story.

“Kyle, do you blame us?”

“Blame you? For what?” He asked confused.

“For your mother leaving, for all the years that you missed out on with your her. It’s our fault. If we had never been sent to earth then your mother would have been with you.”

“I guess I never really thought of it that way but if you guys had never been sent here then my grandfather would never have had to come to Roswell and my parents would have never met and I wouldn’t be here. It’s all relative I guess.”

Isabel was relieved that he felt that way. He had changed so much from the boy who had been so freaked at first finding out about their alien status.

“When did you become so wise Valenti?”

“It just comes naturally I guess.” He said with a wink.

Isabel again smiled back at him and figured she should get the other thing that was bothering her off her chest as well.

“I’m glad that your ok and I’m sorry that I wasn’t there when it happened.”

Isabel had been feeling guilty about that since the moment he had told her what had happened. He had gotten her through so much the last couple of years and the one time he truly needed her she wasn’t there. She knew how hard it must have been for him to go see his mother. She had been there the night he saw his mother again for the first time. She had received that flash from him and she knew that she should have been there for him.

“I understand Isabel you have had a lot on your mind lately. I’m a big boy I can take care of myself.”

Kyle stuck his hands in his pocket and looked down at the floor. He didn’t want her to feel guilty. He did need her, more them he was willing to admit and being with her these last few hours had only highlighted that point for him. He didn’t want her to see that need, that want in his eyes.

“That’s no excuse Kyle. I want you to know that you can always talk to me.”

Kyle looked up and locked eyes with her. They stood there in silence for a few moments. Her skin glistened under the stars and he wondered what the warmth of her skin would feel like to the touch. He wanted nothing more in that moment then to take her in his arms and taste the forbidden fruit of her lips.

“I’ve missed you.” He managed to say through the electric atmosphere that had surrounded them.

As Kyle looked at her something began to stir in Isabel. Something that she had tried to keep buried was rising to the surface, no matter how hard she was trying to suppress it. Her first instinct was to run but she found that she couldn’t move. For a brief moment she imagined what it would be like to give in to it, to feel his touch, to have his lips on hers. Her mind was trying to deny that anything was going on in that moment but her heart and her body were telling her differently and when she heard him speak part of what she was feeling a tear escaped her eye.

Kyle walked over to her and placed his right hand on her cheek and wiped the tear away with his thumb.

“Kyle I...” She choked out.

Before she could continue and before he knew what he was doing he bent down and placed his lips on hers. He parted her lips with his tongue slowly but when he felt her respond he pushed on deepening the kiss.

Slowly Isabel gave in and stopped fighting. She leaned into his body pressing hard against him. She relished his warmth, savored the taste of his lips. She didn’t resist when he deepened the kiss and began to run her fingers through his thick brown hair. She felt so safe and so at peace. She couldn’t remember the last time she had felt this way and then it hit her like a cold bucket of Ice water had been thrown on her…Alex. The last time she had felt like this was the last time she had been with Alex.

‘How can I do this to him.’ Began to run through her mind over and over again

Her hands fell from his hair and her body stiffened. She placed her hands on his chest and pushed away from him breaking the kiss.

Kyle was confused by the sudden change and began to speak but Isabel beat him to it.

“Why would you do that?”

“Excuse me.” He managed to say stunned by what he was hearing.

“How could you kiss me? Do you know what you’ve done?”

He was stunned and then he became angry.

“If I’m not mistaken I wasn’t the only person involved in that kiss Isabel. You were kissing me back, I know I didn’t imagine that!”

“Do you know what you’ve done? You’ve changed everything! It’s real no!. We could deny it until now but now there is no denying it.” She said tears in her eyes.

“That’s the point Isabel! I don’t want to deny it anymore! I think I’m falling in love with you and if that kiss was any indication I think you feel the same way about me.”

“I love Alex.” She said as if that made what he was saying untrue.

“And I love Tess. Do you think I don’t feel guilty? Tess was my first love. She’s the mother of my child. Do you think that that I love her any less because I have feelings for you?”

“Alex…”

“Is dead.” Kyle finished for her.

Isabel looked up at him tears flowing freely now.

“I can’t do this.” She said and turned to head inside.

“Isabel.” Kyle called after her.

“You know what maybe this was a mistake. It’s obvious you’re not ready to move on. I don’t think you will ever be. Forget this even happened. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking.”

And with that Kyle turned his back on her and jumped in his car. He sped off so fast he didn’t even hear her yell after him.

“KYLE!”

Isabel sat down on the porch defeated. He was gone.

The song used in this part is unwell by Matchbox20.

Stronger Together
Part 43

Kyle sped away quickly down Murray lane and toward the highway. It was his own fault. Damn it why had he kissed her. He had always been able to control his emotions, but not tonight. No tonight he had decided to be impulsive, tonight he had decided to take a chance.

“Damn.” Kyle yelled and banged hard on the wheel.

‘She kissed me too. I know she did. This isn’t all one sided.’ He thought as he got on the deserted highway.

‘Out of all the women in New Mexico, America, God even the world I have to go and fall in love with another Alien Hybrid from another planet.’ He thought.

“My life has turned into a bad sci-fi movie.” He mumbled to himself.

Kyle turned on the Radio and fiddled around the stations.

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell

Came the lyrics from the song on the radio.

“You and me both mister.”

Kyle continued to listen he tried to focus on the music and put all thoughts of his mother, and Isabel out of his head.

I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be...me

I'm talking to myself in public
Dodging glances on the train
And I know, I know they've all been talking about me
I can hear them whisper
And it makes me think there must be something wrong with me
Out of all the hours thinking
Somehow I've lost my mind

But I'm not crazy, I'm just a little unwell
I know right now you can't tell
But stay awhile and maybe then you'll see
A different side of me
I'm not crazy, I'm just a little impaired
I know right now you don't care
But soon enough you're gonna think of me
And how I used to be

Kyle pressed on the gas to go faster as he sang the words to the song.

“What the…” Kyle said as he pressed on the gas trying to accelerate.

Kyle pressed on the break, pressed on the gas, and tried to turn the steering wheel. It took Kyle a few seconds to realize he had no control over his vehicle. Yet the car was still moving.

A bright flash of light blinded him from seeing what was in front of him.

“I know I said my life was a bad sci-fi film but this is ridiculous.”

Suddenly the light was gone and the car had stopped.

Kyle’s eyes began to adjust to the darkness of the night. He jumped back when his focused on a face before him. The face looked familiar but he couldn’t place it at first.

Then it dawned on him.

“Nicholas.” He spat.

“I see my reputation proceeds me.” He said with an evil grin.

Kyle grabbed for the door handle but it wouldn’t open.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” Nicholas said.

Kyle spit in his face.

“Oh good the hard way.” Nicholas said wiping the spit from his face.

Before Kyle knew what was happening he was on the ground. He felt energy begin to build in the palm of his hands but didn’t know what to do with it. He flung his arm out and a small bolt of energy flew from his hand and grazed Nicholas’s leg.

“Tsk, tsk. Is that all you’ve got. I don’t know what Ava saw in you but then again she married Zan in her last life too.”

“Pathetic.” He added as he grabbed Kyle’s arm.

Kyle struggled to free himself from his grasp but to no avail. Before he knew it Nicholas’s hands were on his head.

The last thing he heard was the final Lyrics to the song.

I've been talking in my sleep
Pretty soon they'll come to get me
Yeah, they're taking me away

And then there was darkness.

Stronger Together
Part44

Kristiana paced the floor of the living room.

After Kyle had left she had felt that finally she had a chance at a relationship with her son. She knew it wouldn’t be easy but she also knew that he had forgiven her and that gave her hope.

The emotional meeting had taken a lot out of her and she had decided to take a nap. She had fallen asleep quickly but was awoken by a sharp pain in her head and a feeling of dread. The pain had left quickly but that sense of dread remained and that had left her with a sickening feeling in her stomach.

Rian walked in through the front door with a huge smile on his face. He had just come from Dinner with Mari and couldn’t be happier at the fact that she was giving him a second chance. He even felt that he might be making a good impression on her fiancé.

His happy mood changed the instant he saw Kristiana.

“What’s wrong?” He asked immediately.

Kristiana had never been happier to see somebody in her life. She needed to voice her fears.

“Thank God you’re here. Something’s wrong. Something is very wrong.”

“Why what happened?”

Kristiana relayed to him all that had happened.

“Wow. You’ve had quite a day while I have been out.”

“Yeah and I really thought that things were getting on the right track and now this.”

“What do you think this means?”

“I think it means that something has happened and it has to be either Michael or Kyle because the feeling is so strong.”

“Well Michael is fine. I just had dinner with him and Maria.”

“Then it’s Kyle.” She said sadly.

“I could try Maria and see what she knows. She mentioned he was a little upset last night.”

“No, don’t worry her if there is no reason. I think that we need to go to Roswell.” She said.

“Roswell?” He questioned.
“I need to see Jim. He’ll know where Kyle might be.”

Rian hadn’t been back to Roswell since he left so many years ago. He hadn’t planned on ever returning. Too many memories but he knew that this was important. Kristiana needed him and for her he would face those demons.

“Ok. I’ve got the keys. Let’s go.”

Without a word they headed toward Roswell, toward Kyle and what was ahead of them.

*********************************************************8*

Amy walked out of the guest bedroom and closed the door carefully. Slowly she walked toward the couch where Jim was waiting for her.

“How is he?” He asked when she sat down beside him.

“I finally got him to calm down and go to sleep.”

“What so you think was wrong? I’ve never seen him act like that before.”

“Babies have their moments. Sometimes they just need to cry. Maria’s bewitching hour was always five o’clock when I was trying to make dinner.”

“It’s just that KJ is such a happy baby. He hardly ever cries. So I guess when he acts like a baby and cries for an hour I just got nervous.”

“Kyle will have to deal with many more crying fits from that little guy and then there are the teenage years.”

“Oh what a joy that will be.” She laughed.

Jim laughed with her as he imagined Kyle dealing with a teenage KJ.

“So now that the baby’s down. What should we do?” Amy said flirtingly.

“I can think of a few ways to pass the time.” He said winking at her.

Amy blushed and Jim pulled her closer to him.

“I love it when you blush.” He whispered in her ear.

“I am sure there are many more ways you can make me blush Mr. Valenti.”

“Is that an invitation?”

Amy smiled and Jim crashed his lips against hers. There movements became frenzied and clothes were shed.

They were moments away from making love when they both heard the knock on the door.

“Damn it.” Jim said.

“Ignore it. Maybe they will go away.” Amy said.

The knocking became louder and began to turn into banging.

“It doesn’t sound like they are going anywhere. We should get dressed.”

Amy and Jim quickly dressed as the banging became louder.

“Hold your horses.” Jim yelled.

“So help me if this is that vacuum cleaner salesman again. I’ll take that hose and stick it where he will never find it.” Amy said.

When she reached the door she was all prepared to tell the salesman to buzz off.

“I told you…”

“YOU.” Amy spat feeling the anger rise with in her.

“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING HERE?”

”I need to see Jim.” Kristiana said pushing past Amy.

When Kristiana walked in Amy noticed for the first time that she was not alone.

“Well not only did your lying ex decide to visit she brought my lying ex with her.” Amy spat as she gave him an evil stare.

“Amy.” Rian said.

“Don’t say my name.”

Rian sighed.

“Can I come in?”

“NO, but seeing that she didn’t ask to be invited in why should you?”
Rian gave her a sad look and walked past her and towards Kristiana who had gone and found Jim in the kitchen.

“God it’s like I’m part of some bad reality show called meet the ex’s.” Amy said as she slammed the door and walked towards the kitchen.

“What are you doing here Christine?” Jim asked frustrated by his ex’s timing.

“When was the last time you heard from Kyle?” She asked.

“You came all the way here to ask him that? There is such a thing as a phone you know.” Amy spat.

Kristiana just glared at her. She could understand where Amy was coming from but she didn’t have the time for her melodramatics right now.

“Kyle came to see me today and I think that we need to talk about it.”

“Alone.” She said pointedly.

“Maybe you have forgotten but you gave up your right to be Alone a long time ago.” Amy snapped.

“If we don’t stop yelling we are going to wake up the baby and we just got him to go down.” Jim said in a hushed tone.

Jim looked at Amy pleadingly.

Amy grabbed Jim by the arm and pulled him aside.

“Are you really asking me to leave?”

“No Amy. I just need for you to let her talk.”

“I love you Amy. Nothing and no one is going to change that.”

Happy with his answer Amy headed back to Rian and Kristiana.

“I need some fresh air.” She said. Then she walked over to Jim gave him a kiss and left the house.

“I guess I’ll give you guys some time to talk.” Rian said feeling the odd ex out.

“Thanks.” Kristiana said to him with a smile.

**********************************************&**************************
Amy stood on the steps sniffing some cedar oil trying to calm her nerves. It wasn’t that she doubted that Jim loved her but Kristiana had been his first love. She was the mother of his child and connections like that just don’t go away. If she was honest with herself she would admit that she felt threatened.

She put the cap on her cedar oil, stuck it in her pocket and sat down on the steps. She sat there for a few moments lost in her thoughts when she heard the door open. She looked up and met the eyes of the man who had turned her whole world upside down.

“Amy.”

Instinctively she reached for her vile of cedar oil.

Rian watched her. Her hair was shorter and she was thinner if that was possible but she was still as beautiful as he remembered.

“I see you still use cedar oil to help calm your nerves.” He said trying to start up a conversation.

“There is not enough cedar oil in the world to help me deal with you being back Ryan.”

He sighed and sat down beside her.

“Amy I didn’t come back here to hurt you. I wanted to see Maria, get to know her.”

“You had years to get to know her, years to contact her. What makes you think that you can just walk back into her life and she’ll accept you? Do you have any idea what you put her through?”

“There were extenuating circumstances.”

“Extenuating circumstances? What kind of extenuating circumstance? You and your little girlfriend in there didn’t want to deal with 2 little kids so you decided that you would leave. Now that they are grown and all the hard works has been done raising them you think that you can just waltz back in and pick up with the kids right where you left off? Well it just doesn’t work that way.”

“Christine and I did not run off together.”

Amy stared at him in disbelief.

“Do I look like I have stupid written on my forehead? You have got to be kidding me.”

“The two of you mysteriously disappear at exactly the same time and miraculously reappear TOGETHER and you expect me to believe that the two of you aren’t together.”

“You’ve got a better shot of me believing there are aliens among us.”

Amy was angry. He had left her for Jim’s ex-wife and he wouldn’t even own up to it. How could she have misjudged him all the those years ago. She never had any idea any of this was going on. She thought they were happy. They were talking about having another baby and then he was gone.

Rian saw the pain in her eyes, the hurt. He wanted to reach out and take her in his arms and make it all better but he knew that would just make things worse. They had lost so much, all of them.

“Amy, I swear to you I did not leave you for another woman.”

Years of pent up anger and pain were beginning to wash over her. She tried hard to control herself. She felt the tears building in the corners of her eyes. She fought hard to keep herself from crying from giving him the satisfaction of knowing it still hurt.

“I don’t believe you.” She bit out.

Rian watched as the young girl he fell in love with so many years ago struggled to control her emotions. It was in that moment that he decided that she deserved to know everything.

“I’m not the naïve woman you left so many years ago. She would have believed you. She would have believed anything that you told her because she trusted you.”

“Do you remember right be for I left I got a visit from my father?”

Amy just shrugged not wanting to re-live the past.

“It wasn’t just a random visit. He came to talk to me about family concerns.”

“Maria and I were your family, you didn’t seem to be concerned about us.” She bit out.

The hurt in her voice only encouraged him to go on.

“My family they are not from around here.”

“God! I know that! I was married to you and Maria has visited your parents in Arizona!”

“She has?” He asked surprised.

“Just because her father is a jackass I don’t blame your parents.”

“That was nice of you.” He added.

“Don’t patronize me.”

“I wasn’t… You know what it doesn’t matter. What matters is that you know why I left.”

“Well I’m listening.” She said in an annoyed tone.

“My family was bound in tradition to a royal family.”

“Like Prince Charles.”

“Sort of but a lot more powerful. My brother was to fulfill the responsibility but he got hurt. When they called for him they said my father had to go. I couldn’t let that happen. He wouldn’t have survived. I had to go in his place.”

“Ya know I may have been really gullible when I married you but I am not now. You may think your some great storyteller but I’m not stupid! I might not be the brightest light on the Christmas tree but I know that there aren’t that many ruling Kings and Queens left. So if they started calling you so called Defenders up I think I would have heard about it on the news. So tell your fairytale to someone else.”

Amy got up and stormed toward the front door. She turned back to look at him and gave him an evil glare.

“You had a better shot of me believing you were with aliens.”

“I was.” He said just above a whisper.

She turned toward him and narrowed her eyes.

“I was not serious.”

“I am.”

They stood there silent for a few moments. Rian waited for an explosion but it never came. Instead Amy began to shake her head.

“You’re pathetic. Even now you can’t admit the truth.”

“That is the truth. My family has an alien heritage and I was called back to a planet called Antar .”

Amy stood dumbfounded. Was he really trying to make her believe this?

“You know what? I take that back your not pathetic your CRAZY.” She said raising her voice when she said the word crazy.

“Maybe you have spent the last 12 plus years in a psyche ward.”

She turned and began to walk back toward the house.

Rian didn’t know what to do. A lot of time had passed but he still loved her and he needed her to understand.

“It’s true Amy. Ask Maria.”

Amy stopped and turned around.

“I really hope you haven’t been filling my daughters head with this crap. No wonder she’s giving you the time of day. She thinks your crazy.”

“Maria knew about Aliens long before I came back.”

“The only thing that Maria knows about aliens she learned at the crashdown.”

“That’s not true. If you just open your eyes a little you will be able to see it.”

Amy was angry. She walked right towards him and got in his face. Who the hell did he think he was?

“My eyes are wide open and the only thing that I see is a psychopath!”

She turned and ran into the house. She startled Jim and Kristiana who were still talking in the kitchen. Jim immediately rushed to Amy.

“Amy what’s wrong? Are you ok?”

“I’m fine except this lunatic is trying to tell me he has spent the last 12 years on another planet!!”

Jim ‘s expression became stern and he looked directly at Rian.

“You bastard. What did you tell her?” He asked through gritted teeth.

“I told her the truth.” Rian said not backing down.

“You had no right.” Jim began.

“I had every right. She’s my wife.”

Jim walked right up to Rian and punched him.

“Jim!” Kristiana yelled rushing to Rian.

“She’s not your wife anymore.”

“Will someone please clue me in to what the hell is going on?” Amy yelled.

“Jim you don’t believe him do you. Why would you even consider what he is staying”

Jim took Amy by the shoulders.

“Amy, you need to calm down. Part of what he may have told you may be true.”

“What are you talking about?!”

“It’s not my story to tell Amy. I think we should call Maria and Michael.”

“What do Maria and Michael have to do with any of this?” She yelled as she moved from his grasp.

“Michael is part of the royal family.” Rian said.

“Shut the fuck up.” Jim yelled at him.

Amy began to laugh. Slowly at first but then she found herself in uncontrollable hysterics.

“Michael is a lot of things but royalty is not one of them.” She said through fits of laughter.

Rian walked towards Amy but Jim stepped in front of him.

“Stay away from her and get the hell out of my house.”

“I’m not going anywhere.” Rian yelled.

“The hell your not.”

Jim grabbed him and the two men began struggling and rolling on the floor. Amy continued to laugh and Kristiana was yelling at them to stop. None of them noticed the knocking on the door or when Deputy Hanson opened the door and walked in.

“Sheriff? Is everything ok here?” He asked.

Valenti noticing Hanson jumped to his feet and brushed himself off.

“Hanson. What the hell are you doing here?” He asked startled by his presence.

“I was outside and when I knocked no one answered. I heard a commotion and thought I should make sure everything was ok.” He said still not understanding what the hell was going on.

“Everything is fine.” Jim stated as he shot a nasty look at Rian.

“Are you sure?” Hanson asked skeptical.

Valenti gave him a stern look and Hanson knew he shouldn’t take it any further.

“What brings you here at this time of night?”

“Umm… Well.” Hanson stumbled over his words.

Valenti had no time for this. He was aggravated and angry and all he wanted to do was get Hanson and the rest of them out of his house so he could talk to Amy.

“Spit it out already.”

“We got a call about an abandon vehicle on the highway.”

“You came all the way here to tell me about an abandon vehicle?”

“It’s Kyle’s Sir and there appears to have been some sort of struggle.

Amy quickly went to Jim’s side and Rian to Kristiana’s.

“Is he…” The sheriff began to say.

“There isn’t any sign of him.” Hanson said quickly.

Jim grabbed his hat and then turned to Amy.

“Well talk later.” He whispered in her ear.

She smiled, gave him a kiss on the lips and said “I’m sure he’s fine.”

“I think that I should come with you.” Rian said.

“Like hell you will.” The sheriff spat.

“You might find me useful.”

The sheriff thought about it for a second. If this was something alien related he might be right. Jim did not want to let his pride hurt his son.

“Fine, but one false move and your staying in the patrol car.”

“I’ll stay here and call the others and see if they have heard anything.” Amy suggested.

Jim pulled her into a hug and kissed her forehead. “Thank you.” He whispered.

A few moments later Jim Rian and Hanson were out the door and Amy was on the phone. Kristiana sat quietly and prayed that her son was ok.

The search for Kyle was on.
