Ok guys this next part is pretty short. I have had some writers block but I seem to be having a breakthrough. You will be happy to know that the next couple of parts after this one will be what the dreamers have been waiting for.
Stronger Together
Part 36
Michael sat in stunned silence. A million thoughts were running through his head, a million questions. He had a mother, Kyle’s mother. He and Kyle were almost brothers, twins. Then the emotion hit him. Why? Why didn’t she keep him? Why did he end up with Hank?
Kristiana sat and watched as the son who had been taken from her so many years ago processed the information that he indeed had a mother. That day should have been one of the happiest of her life. Instead it turned into a nightmare.
“Why didn’t you keep me?” Michael said breaking the silence that had settled between them.
“Oh Michael I wanted to. You have to believe that but it was out of my control.”
“You could have run with me. When we were alone.” He said trying to hide the emotion in his voice.
“I tried. I mustered every ounce of energy I had. Some how I was able to make it down the hall but then he saw me and stopped me.” She said tears streaming down her face.
“Who?” He asked.
“My Father.”
“Chrissy what are you doing?” He demanded.
“I’m taking my baby and leaving here. You can’t stop me.” She said trying to push passed him.
“You’re not being rational. He is not your son. He belongs with the other three.” He said.
Again she tried to push pass him. She was still nine months pregnant and had just had surgery but her adrenaline and her love for her son were giving her the strength to go. She managed to make it to the front of the office before she collapsed. Her father was just a few feet behind her and caught her and placed her in a chair.
In excruciating pain and weak from the drugs and surgery she was unable to resist as her father pried the baby from her hands.
Instantly the baby began to scream. Tears ran down her face. She could not move. There was nothing she could do to save her baby, to help quiet his screams.
“I’m sorry.” Her father said as he took the screaming infant back to the lab.
“I’ll never forgive you.” She said before she passed out.
By the time I woke up again they had taken you, put you back in the pod. All I had was this picture. She said handing him a worn old photograph. Sarah took it before my father put you back.
Michael took the photo. Suddenly he got a flash.

Kristiana is walking in the desert. She is very pregnant. She is crying and holding the picture in his hand.
“You searched for me?” He said.
“Yes. I didn’t know where to go but something always led me to the desert. Even after a few years had passed and I realized it was unlikely I would ever find you, the desert still called to me. Every year on your birthday I would go out in the desert. The first year was the hardest. I was inconsolable and had no one to talk to. The next few years I took Kyle and we had a picnic and even sang Happy Birthday. He thought it was a big game but he never questioned why we did it. It was as if he knew. We did that until I had to leave.”
“Why did you leave? I was found alone in the desert. You must have realized it was me.” He said trying to hide his emotion and not doing a very good job. All the feelings of abandonment that had been with him for all these years started to break through.
“I knew the moment Jim told me about the little boy from the desert that it was you. Don’t you remember I came to see you.” She said wiping away a tear that was rolling down her cheek.
Michael looked up as if a fog was lifting from his head.
“The football. You brought me a stuffed football.” He said as he remembered.
“Yes. I came to see you. I wanted to make the arrangements to take you home.” She said.
“I recognized you then also.” He said as the memories began to become clearer in his mind.
“You came right to me. The social worker was amazed because you hadn’t said or looked at anyone directly.” She said as she remembered how it had felt to see him again on that day. She had planned to tell Jim everything and to raise both her sons together.
“What happened? Why didn’t you take me with you?” He said in a low whisper.
“I was going to. I even told Kyle that I was bringing him a surprise but…”
“Then you abandoned both of us.” Michael said.
“Not because I wanted to. I never would have left my boys. If I had any other choice.” She said new tears building as waves of emotion ran through her body.
“I went home that day to tell Jim everything. I was tired of the secrets. I wanted my boys together and I didn’t care what anyone else thought.”
“I went back to the house. I planned on making a big dinner and telling Jim everything. When I got there my brother Paul was waiting for me.”
“The one who got to stay in Boston?” Michael said vaguely remembering her mentioning him earlier.
“Yes. My father had a stroke a few months after Kyle turned one. My brother became our family’s Antarian representative. He came to warn me that there had been a mole in the alliance and that the skins knew that I had carried one of the royal four. I told him that I didn’t care and that I was going to raise you as my own.” She said.
“So why didn’t you?” He asked.
“Paul told me by doing that I was putting both you and Kyle in danger. He said once they found me they would kill me and take you and Kyle. They would experiment on the two of you until they figured out which one of you was from the pods and get rid of the other one. Then he showed me…”
“What?” Michael said trying to speak past the lump in his throat.
“What they had done to other children they thought were the royal four.” She said feeling sick as the images fluttered through her mind.
“I couldn’t let that happen to my sons. God only knows what they would have done to you if they had found you. So I left and to make sure that they never found me here on earth my brother arranged for me to be sent to Antar as an alliance ambassador. My brother erased all signs of the person known as Christine Kingston. It was as if I never existed. I didn’t want to leave here but I knew that if I stayed they might find me and connect me to you or come after Kyle.”
Michael felt sick. He didn’t even want to know what she had seen. It had been bad enough that she had chosen to leave a life she loved, people she loved. He didn’t want to know because if he knew he would blame himself because they were looking for him.
“I have to go.” He said suddenly as he grabbed his keys and headed for the door. He didn’t want to think about any of this. So much had happened to innocent people because the beings on his former planet thought they should play God, because they created him.
“Michael wait…” She began to say but Michael just opened the door and walked out.
As she watched him ride away the tears that had been threatening to engulf her all night finally began to fall. It was done. She had told her son what had happened and she only hoped that he could forgive her.
