As soon as Alex leaves I smile at the two young men before me. Reaching out a hand towards the lighter haired one for him to shake, I say, "I'm glad to see that you made it here without event. When we are alone, you may call me Jeff. Which one of you is Xan?" I don't know which one is Xan but they are both healthy looking boys. I hope whichever one is he, that he'll take good care of my daughter.

~MARIA~

I am kind of surprised about Liz's declaration that it's time that I marry. Marriage? I'm kind of happy with the way my life is right now. Not that finding someone to care for and be cared by wouldn't be nice but I honestly hadn't thought about marriage in a while. Maybe I'm just too wrapped up in my best friends' lives.

Lizzie pulls Alex into her room and closes the door and I pounce on him. "Ok, what are their names? What are they like?" I ask.

~KIVAR~

I watch her leave me behind to spend time with my sister and a slight feeling of jealousy and anger flashes over me before I dismiss it. Well, this way, at least I'll have a little time to get some more tests done. I quickly make my way to the medical wing of the palace and find the doctor standing over some sort of microscope or something. "Doctor," I say lowly to get his attention.

He jumps and spins around. Dropping to his knees he starts to shake and pleads, "Your Majesty, you must believe that I had no idea my assistant would talk. I have told no one of your problem! I swear it. I would have fired him myself and even come to you had I found out about it before Lord Nickolas. Please, have mercy on me!"

I go over and yank him off the floor and place him on his feet. Looking him directly in the eyes, I say, "I know you had nothing to do with it but I hope it was a warning to you. If you breathe a word of it to anyone, I swear you won't be able to talk about anything again. Are we clear?" He nods and swallows. "Good. Now if you have some time, I have an hour or so to run some tests."

Tess squeezes my hand reassuringly,"I have been thinking of you a lot these past few days, and for some reason it just felt urgent to get here. I'm so happy that you are doing better now, but what had you feeling so crazy?"

"Kivar has promised me that he is trying to change.I have no clue what has suddenly brought about this change of heart in him but whatever it is I will be eternally grateful to it.A few days ago he came to me and said he wanted us to start over.Before that Tess..." I trail off thinking about my desperation

"Before that I was at my wits end.There wasn't a moment when we were together that he wouldn't try and punish me for god knows what,whether we were simply talking or whether we were in bed.It was horrible Tess!I had sent numerous letters to Antar for help but they didn't reply to a single one and I suspect may be Kivar intercepted them but that's in the past."

Smiling at her once more I change the subject,"And what about you?Any babies in the near future?" I ask in a teasing tone

As soon as the Prince leaves us alone with the King he extends his hand towards me,"I'm glad to see that you made it here without event. When we are alone, you may call me Jeff. Which one of you is Xan?"

Taking his hand in a firm grip I shake it briefly before letting go of it,"Pleased to meet your Grace.I am Rath,Crown Prince of Reschevt and this" I move aside and introduce Max "is Crown Prince Xan fo Antar."

I am startled at this revelation and I know that it must show on my face. "Crown Prince Rath! I had no idea that you would be the one to accompany Xan. I admit I am a bit surprised. But of course it is a pleasure and honor to meet you. I wasn't aware that the ruling houses of Reschvet and Antar were so close." I am a bit uneasy at this new development. I want to trust the two men in front of me but centuries of war make for a bad past and I admit to being a bit leary of what these two planets might have planned by sending both of the royal heirs. I know that I will have to watch out for their safety if nothing else. I had assumed that the other man Xan would bring with him would be one of his own personal guard. If something happens to either prince, Eurolgan could be blamed for it and all of the tentative alliances will be a dream in the past.

ALEX

I grin when Maria immediately bombards me with questions, so typical for her.

"Maria give me a chance to answer." I plead teasinly before sitting down in a char. "Not that I can tell you much, we didn't talk much and father sent me here to tell you that the bodyguards have arrived, Elizabeth."

Then turning back to Maria, knowing that she won't be satisfied with that answer, I add, "I can only tell you that they are both tall, one with dark almost black hair and the other guy's hair is lighter. Can't tell you much else, I'm afraid."

"Hm, did father said that I should come to his office and meet them?" I ask Alex, not sure what I'm expected to do with this information. "Maria already told me that they arrived."

ALEX

"Honestly, I don't know Liz. He just told me to tell you that they arrived. He didn't say to come to them and he also didn't say you shouldn't."

Can't believe that I forgot to ask if Liz should join them or not. Damn! That was stupid of me. Then Liz's words register.

"Maria told you?" I whirl around to look at my cousin. "How did you know?"

I bow to King Jeffrey and state, "It's an honour sir." I look up and say, "May I first state how lovely your country and rooms are." I smile at Rath and add, "And I am very lucky to have such a good man as Rath accompany me."

Looking back at King Jeffrey I say, "Your highness I'm very much looking forward to meeting your daughter. I'm sure she is a treasure. Most people call me Max, and this is probably the best way to address me."

I grin a little sheepishly and shrug. "Weeelllll, I kinda, sorta, mighta watched them when they landed a few minutes ago. I wanted to see what they were like...first impressions and all that. You can't blame me for that right? Curiosity is my nature." Turning to Liz, I say, "I wouldn't go to meet these guards unless Uncle Jeff sends for you."

I admit to liking this young man's manners. He doesn't seem to be a spoiled prince. The fact that he says he's looking forward to meeting my little girl and calls her a treasure might be a bit over the top but he seems sincere...and a bit nervous. I smile and say, "Well, Max, I'm delighted to have you visit our home. I admit to being a bit nervous about your well being here. I hope you have kept this visit a secret because there are still plenty of people out there in this system that are all for the demise of these peace efforts. Your accomodations will be in the same area as Liz's and Maria's as you are supposed to be her guards. I'm afraid they won't be as luxurious as you are used to because of your secret identities..." I trail off as another thought hits me. "And what are we supposed to call you, Prince Rath?"

"I remember that for a very long time, and really only until recently I had never even thought about having children myself. I guess maybe because Khivar was the one who raised me mostly, and I just never thought I would be any good being a mother." she says hesitantly

I place my hand on her forearm,"Tess,Kivar told me about how the woman your father employed to take care of you both treated you and it's not your or his fault if that scarred you in some way psychologically.But I have seen how happy you are and how you have blossomed being married to Kyle.You'll be a good mother,I'm sure of it." I smile kindly at her

"Lately, I've been thinking a lot about it, but Kyle and I haven't really discussed it in depth very much. So..." she wrings her hands together blushing profusely and I start chuckling
"I'm sure Kyle would only be too willing to try and have babies.After all trying to conceive is half the fun,as Kivar would say."

"Hmm what about you? Do you think I will have any little nieces or nephews soon?" she asks

I roll my eyes dramatically and then laugh,"If it were up to Kivar I'd be pregnant right now.He's eager to start a family but I think he and I need to get to know each other again and spend some time together...you know,just the two of us without a baby being involved."

Stopping near a flower bed I stoop and pluck one and give it to Tess,"This is one of the new hybrids that Kivar's scientists came up with.Anyway about babies,may be in a few months time you'll hear some good news,hopefully." I say with a chuckle and lead her back in to the palace
