Feedback Chapter 34
Yay for double postings! Excuse me for a moment while I do a happy dance!
Okay, I'm back.
I'm so glad that Max explained to Liz why he left her in the gym. It makes sense that Sean wouldn't be able to wipe everyone's minds with three people there (Liz, Maria and the Principle). I'm just curious - since he wasn't mind warping Max - what he was doing to Liz that was draining her so much. I'm thinking that he was mostly fighting to keep her under his control. But it was more like he was draining her. I'm sure that Max knows. He obviously knew when to leave to get help so he had to be able to tell that she couldn't take much more.
As satisfied as Max might be to get a little revenge on the Sgt. I don't think that's going to work out well for him. Fighting with Sean is one thing but picking a fight (or even just purposefully annoying) the Sgt is something else. He has to know that wasn't a good idea. I think he's just a little fedup with the entire situation to care as much as he should. They've been threatening the woman that he loves and if the Sgt. is going to allow Sean to get away with such things... well, Max isn't going to just take that laying down.
I agree with Max. It's good that Jeff filed the police report. It really doesn't look suspicious that Liz didn't do it as she was still hospitalized at the time. And for a father to not file a report would (in this situation) put both him and Liz at more risk. I'm wondering how many stares Liz is going to receive upon going back to school though. And I'm not talking about the ones from humans.
This almost paints a target on her back for the entire rest of the alien population. Now she's more of a loose cannon even if they all think her memory has been wiped.
I can't imagine a Sean worse than he was before. I think the more frightening part is the fact that now he's going to be more vigilent to go after Liz when other people aren't around. If he thought he was doing that well enough before just imagine how isolated she'll be the next time. That has to be terrifying for her as well as Max. He can't stay with her all the time and he can't bring himself to fully fight for her out in the open. Though, in all honesty, is that a fight that he could win? If it's against the law for him to be with her it wouldn't just be the Sgt. that he would be going up against but the entire alien community.
So if Philip hasn't ratted out Max but the Sgt. presumably knows about the bond (or at least suspects it) where does that leave Philip in all of this? As much as I don't like him at the moment he covered for his son and appears to continue to being so by keeping that information to himself. But the Sgt. knowing puts Philip in a tricky situation as well. It also means that Philip might not be as privy to the Sgt's trust and insight as he once was. That's not a good situation for Max if his father actually is looking out for him.
And pausing for a minute here. Can you imagine everything that Diane is going through, watching her son as he gets these punishments, one after the other, knowing that she can't do anything to help him. At least her husband can heal him after his sentence is up but she isn't able to do anything and she's the one who would have cared for the children more.
It's interesting that Max has been working and learning on comatose patients. I'm wondering why he claimed to not be able to get into Liz's mind when she was drunk and why he asked Is if she could erase Liz's mind if he had no actual intention of allowing her to. He's been putting up a front for awhile with those closest to him and it's amazing to see how he has basically taken down almost all those walls and masks for her. He still has a way to go, you can tell he still tries to keep things from her to protect her but I think he's slowly learning that it's better to just be honest with her.
As far as Liz's memories coming back - I think they'll all come back once Max and Liz's bond is truly unbreakable. It'll be interesting to see how Philip handles that situation at the very least. Finally someone who has seen his bad side and isn't restrained in letting him have an earful.

It's interesting about Max using Liz's energy. I get that he doesn't like to but at the same time I find the whole thing intriguing. Anytime someone else tries or anytime she fights off another alien she's drained in a very negative way. But with Max she doesn't seem to suffer much more than a headache. I know we haven't seen it yet but I think that part of the "healing" that Max did during all her checkups (whether Sean and his father knew about it or not) was feeding Liz some energy when he healed her bruises, etc. given how much energy she would use fighting them. I could see him doing something like that.
I can also see why he would be so hesitant to use her again. I just don't know when he's going to realize that's he basically the only alien that feels that way in regards to her. For the others she would be a means to and end. So here's an idea! He should keep her close (like 24/7), keep the bond intact with her and do everything possible to strengthen it. The problem with that is, even if it's the best solution he'll look at it as being the selfish solution because he wants her so badly. So he'll fight it, not realizing it's what they both need.
And what the heck is up with an alien society that (for reasons still unknown) left their home planet to settle here only to act like monsters who think it's okay to approve the rape and/or lifelong torture of women? You would think that at least the women in the alien society would stand up and say something. Even if it was just the ones who were hybrids - but especially any human woman who married in! Jeesh! That's the part that I think make them monsters more than anything else.
At least we know a little bite more about the animosity between Sean and Max. In some ways it's a classic case of jealousy and fighting over a girl. But it's woven in such a complex way and is so high stakes that it's more than that. It's interesting that the aliens don't feel much and yet they seem to feel anger and hate perfectly well. I'm just curious as to why they don't have a way of balancing out those emotions outside of a bond with their mates, etc.
Sean might get first dibs on her but he won't actually be able to control her. He should realize this given how much she struggled during all of their checkups. As she gets older she's just going to fight more. And he's going to have to use more energy. Which means they'll both end up drained and dead on the floor somewhere. So, really, for self-preservation he should just give her to Max.
See? I let him save face and everything!
Though after finding out he killed Liz's mom I'm not really inclined to give him much of anything.
Just what kind of arrangement did Sean have with his dad? It doesn't seem quite right that he would just kill Nancy like that. Obviously his dad approved it if he didn't even get punished for it but why send his son to do it? To harden him off? Or to make sure his own hands stayed clean? Maybe it was to show him how to dispose of a Gaea in the event that they need to be handled in such a manner. Either way it was particularly sick and cruel.
And Max is still saying that Liz doesn't belong to him?! At that point I wouldn't care what anyone else said, there would be no way I would send the person I loved to be controlled and used by a murderer. Just the thought makes your blood boil!
So what exactly set off Sean so much that he paid Max a visit? I know I mentioned it after the chapter before but I'm still curious why he decided to step up when he did. I bet he wasn't expecting to get beaten at his own game by Max. He doesn't seem like the kind of alien that would go in to a situation that he couldn't win. Even if he's too cocky sometimes and thinks he can win when he can't. I'm secretly hoping he got in trouble with his dad to at least some extent for picking the fight and then for losing the fight.
At least it would mean he got punished at some point in time.
Interesting that the aliens have infiltrated most of the government. I'll have to think over that random bit of info.
I confess I'm slightly annoyed that Max is still trying to keep things from Liz. Obviously something about the bond. Maybe a third option he doesn't want her to feel forced into?
I sort of want to slap him from keeping whatever it is from her but given the painful blow she just landed on him about breaking the bond I guess I'll be nice.
Still - can we just have them cement the bond in the next chapter? Yes? Great! Glad you agree! (See how easy that would be... Just wanted to let you know it's not as hard to cave to our pressures as you might think.
)
Okay, off to read the next chapter so I can do the feedback for that. Hope I get warm and fuzzy feelings from it. That way I can skip around singing "Max loves Liz. Liz loves Max."
Well, not in real life, but you know what I mean.
