Hey all since I start school back up on Monday I've been working hard on getting new parts up. So I'm dropping off this part today, and hopefully will be able to have another one up either tomorrow or Monday.

Part 31

Isabel, Alex, Kyle, Serena, Marlok and three of his crew spread out in the woods to look for food. They all agreed that before they left Antar they would need enough supplies to make it out. Tess found the ship’s own supplies were limited because it was only a cruiser. She found basic first aid supplies, a limited amount of food and fuel to get them half way around the planet.

Tess was inspecting the ship’s combustion when she heard someone coming up behind her. She looked over her shoulder and smiled when she saw David.
“Hi,” she said almost shyly. She blew a strand of hair out of her eyes and turned back to the ship.
“How does she look?” David asked as he settled behind her. He wrapped his arms around her waist and rested his chin on her shoulder.
“If we get enough fuel and supplies we should be able to get out of here. We should get a new ship once we leave, not a good idea to go flying around in a trooper ship.”

David nodded and spun Tess around. “What are you doing?” She asked, but smiled when she saw the look on his face.
“I’m hungry,” He growled and buried his face in her neck. The vibrations of his growl shot through her and she melted into his embrace.
“David, we can’t. They might see us.” She said and giggled as she saw him pull back with a pout.
“But you look so sexy.”

Max walked back to the ship and looked in to see Liz still laying on the floor. He looked around to see Zan and Ava talking off to the left, he could hear Tess and David talking on the other side of the ship, Chiron, Eliza, and Maria were to the far right. Michael he spotted leaning against a tree looking over at Maria. He’d have to ask Michael about that later, he thought.

He walked into the ship and kneeled as close to Liz as he dared. He didn’t want to cause her anymore pain, but he had to know what was wrong with her. He sat Indian style in front of her and closed his eyes at the same time he raised his hands toward Liz. He opened their connection again and forced his way through her pain.

He could see the green energy chasing itself within her body, searching for any way to escape. He followed the path hoping to find the source of the changes, trying also to remember what he had done when he healed her. There was still residual energy that he had used on her. It settled in her brain where the most damage had been and other traces were in her lungs and heart after the internal damage brought on by the crash. He focused on his residual energy in her brain and pushed further trying to see if anything there would tell him what had happened.

What he found made him almost pull out. Liz had died. She was only dead for under a minute but she had still died. It took his boost to get her heart pumping again, but the energy that gave her brain the jump start stayed and slowly began to repair the damage. His Antarian energy was blending with her cells, changing them into a hybrid of the two. The change sparked her potential and his energy along with her new energy were seeking a way out. But Liz had no idea what was going on inside of her, so she had no control of the energy and what to do with it.

Max pulled out and gasped for air as he the residual energy and some that managed to follow him out crashed into him. He gritted his teeth to keep from making a sound to alert the others. When the initial pain died away he looked over at Liz to see her breathing was more level and it actually looked like she was resting.

Max inched closer and reached his hand out toward waiting for a reaction but one didn’t come. He got more confident and laid his hand on her naked arm and was greeted only by warm skin and only a very small current underneath. He sighed in relief when she didn’t flinch.


“What ya doing duke?” Asked Rath from the ship’s hatch.
“Just trying to fix her.” Max said and struggled to stand up. “
“What was wrong wit’ her?” Lonnie asked, stepping out from behind Rath and into the ship.
“When I healed her she was dead. My energy and her cells are combining.” Max explained.
“So what? She’s becoming more like us?” Rath asked.

“I can’t tell yet. Liz needs to wake up and tell me what she’s feeling.” Max looked over at Liz again and sighed. “I helped her get over the pain, but when she wakes up I’m going to have to help her through the rest.”

“So…” Alex started and looked over at Isabel who was walking beside him.
“Yeah?”
“Um…I guess I’m just glad we’re all ok.” He said and kicked himself for being so weak. Ever since he saw Isabel on Liz’s ship he was drooling. After being on a ship with just men he would be happy to see any woman but when he laid eyes on the tall, busty blonde he felt like someone had punched him in the gut.

“Yeah.” She said. She looked over at him and watched as his ears quickly turned red. The lanky man beside her confused her. Despite his appearance she knew he was a strong man. She had witnessed his strength during their battle with the soldiers in the woods, and when they went to retrieve the ship.

Kyle smiled when he looked at the two in front of him.
“What you smiling about?” Serena asked.
“Those two.”
“What about them?” Serena said and looked at Alex and Isabel.
“He likes her.”
“Oh.” Serena smiled.

“What do you think will happen when we get off this planet?” Alex asked Isabel.
“I don’t know. I wouldn’t mind if we all stayed together,” Isabel confessed. She smiled over at Alex and waited until he turned to look at her.
“That would…yeah I’d like that too.”

“Max!” Maria called out as she saw Liz begin to stir. She had gone into the ship after Max, Lonnie and Rath had come out and settled down besides Liz. She had noticed the change in Liz and now when she noticed Liz’s eyes struggle to open she did not see any pain.
Max came running into the ship at Maria’s shout and almost fell on top of her.
“What?”
“She’s waking up.” She said. Everyone else peeked through the ship’s hatch to see what would happen.

Part 32.


“Liz, girl wake up,” Maria said softly. She reached over and grabbed Liz’s hand. She felt Liz’s hand close on hers and smiled.
“Maria?” Liz’s voice sounded tired and hoarse. Her eyes slowly fluttered open and smiled at Maria.
“Liz, how do you feel?” Max asked tentatively. He was still afraid Liz would react negatively toward him.

Liz recoiled but shook the feeling away when she looked at him. She remembered some of what had happened, but all the details about how she found herself here were foggy.
“Max,” she said and struggled to sit up. She felt Maria’s and Max’s hands reaching to help her. “Where are we?” she asked.

“In our new ship,” Max said and smiled. His hand was on her bare arm and she was not screaming in pain. “We got you, Michael and Zan out of the Tower. Do you remember anything from there?”

Liz shrugged and reached to scratch her head.
“I remember being with Michael in the woods, then we’re in a cell next to Zan. I don’t know how long we were in there.”
“We were separated, do you remember that?” Michael asked from the hatch.
“I…I remember being in a white room, and…and a man was talking to me. It all hurt so much. What’s wrong with me?”

Max told her everything he’d learned while he scanned her unconscious body. He told her about how his charge brought her back to life and managed to change some of her cells.

“So what happens now? Do I keep changing?”
“I don’t know. This has never happened before. I’ve never brought someone back from the dead.” Max confessed.

“Where’s Serena?” She asked and looked around at those around her. “Is she ok?”
“Serena’s fine, girl,” Maria replied. She went out with the others to get supplies.”
“She…she can tell us more. She’s the scientist, she’ll know what’s going on.”

After finding a small village and practically raiding their rations storage, the group headed back toward the ship.
“It’s a little weird to have asked for these supplies,” Isabel said.
“I know what you mean. We’re used to the looting.” Kyle said with a grin.
“We must hurry up. The sky is darkening and night will soon be on us.” Marlok said and hurried ahead. His men nodded and followed quickly.

As they came near to the site where the ship was Kyle paused.
“What is it?” Asked Serena.

“Something’s different. There’s relief and apprehension.” He said.
“Well let’s hurry up and see what’s up.” Said Alex.

They jogged over the rest of the way and pushed their way past the others crowding the hatch.

“What’s wrong?” Serena asked out of breath. Kyle ran to catch up and stood beside her. Serena looked over at where Max and Maria were kneeling and saw Liz sitting up. “Liz!”

“Hi, Serena,” Liz said with a smile. “We need your help over here.” Serena walked over to them and listened as Max explained everything he had seen when he scanned her. Serena stood listening patiently and only speaking when Max was done.

“Ok, I’ve never encountered anything like this, but I can pretty much see what is going on.” She said. “You pretty much guess what is going on. Liz’s cells are adapting. For that brief moment that Liz was…dead, her body stopped all of its functions.

“If Liz would have been brought back with a defibulator then it would have been no problem, but your Antarian energy worked even deeper than a simple reboot of Liz’s heart. You went in and repaired the damage that was extensive in Liz’s body, her cells took in this energy and repaired themselves as well to add in this new recuperating energy. Her body is not rejecting the new intruder, its welcoming it, adapting to make it fit. As a result her biochemical make up is changing.”

“So what does that mean?” Liz asked.
“In essence, your cells are becoming a hybrid of human and Antarian.” Serena ran her fingers through her hair, “I’d need a sample of your blood and have the equipment to be able to see for myself, but that’s pretty much what all of what you’ve told me is leading me to believe.”
“And what about the sparks?”

“Again, Max pretty much got it down. He shot his healing ability into you. All of the changes in synapses and his energy mixing with yours created that excess. The sparks are that energy trying to find a way out. If we can manage to control it you might be able to hone it and use it the way Lonnie and Ava do.” Serena said.

Although all she was saying made sense to her she could see the way the others looked at her in confusion. “But like I said before, to know for sure I’d have to run some tests.”

“So I’m basically becoming some form of Antarian/Human hybrid and I’ll be able to blast?” Liz asked. Serena only nodded and looked at Max.

Liz nodded and tried to take in everything that she’d heard. She didn’t know how she felt about the unknown changed going on inside of her. Yeah, she was grateful that Max had saved her life, and she would not in any way regret what he had done, but she was scared. Back in the tower all she could remember was pain, a pain so strong she thought she would die. What if the changes became too much for her body and eventually killed her?

Max could sense the string of emotions running through Liz. She was scared, that much was apparent. He took her hand in his and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Liz looked up and tried to smile. She was eternally grateful for this man.

He had saved her twice now. But she couldn’t shake that frightening haze that she had been in. She knew he didn’t do anything to intentionally hurt her. He saw it in his eyes whenever she looked into them.

“I’m sorry,” he said, hurt echoing in his voice.
“Don’t, you have nothing to be sorry for. Thank you for saving my life.” Liz replied. She could still see the uncertainty in his eyes so she pulled him closer, cradled his face in her hands and softly pressed her lips against his own.

Oh my god I'm back. Today was my last day of class!!! Unfortunately I still have two finals next week but I'm not too worried about those. But to celebrate four years of college finally over with I bring a new part!!

Part 33

Max sat by himself behind the ship. Almost everyone was in the ship except for Marlok and his crew which were all sitting near the edge of the wood. He looked up and made eye contact with the large, blue-haired man who tipped his head in acknowledgement.

After Liz’s lips had pressed against his, because he refused to name it a kiss, he had simply nodded and walked out of the ship to where he now sat. He did not want to think about the implications of a kiss. Even though he had already had the pleasure of feeling her soft lips sealed tightly over his, he managed to down play that as just an effect of the Heat. But that kiss in the ship could not be attributed to anything other than pure emotion.

It scared him, yes. Not since before becoming the captain he now was had he allowed himself to feel anything for anyone who wasn’t family.

Her name had been Mikaleh. She had been merely fifteen when he had literally ran into her in the center of his village. He had been running from the older, and bigger, boys there when he looked over his shoulder and suddenly felt himself collide with something. It turned out to be someone.

The first thing he noticed when he looked over at her was the blood on her left knee. He heard her hiss when she reached for her injured skin and smiled when she cursed under her breath.
“I am sorry,” he had said. He could hear the boys laughing at the scene and sighed in relief when they’d left. “Are you alright?”

“Well this foodstuff is all on the ground, I’ve ruined these flowers, and my knees is bleeding.” She said in an angry huff.
“Let me,” he’d said and placed his hand on her knee. She gasped at the tingling heat and opened her mouth in awe when he removed his hand and revealed her healed skin.

“A healer?”
“Maxel.” He’d said and smiled. He got to his feet and reached down to help her up.
“Mikaleh.” She’d replied. “Thank you.”
“It’s the least I could do.”

They’d gotten to know each other the few months that followed that day. She had been the youngest in a family of nine. Her father had been an officer in the guard but had long retired after an injury which lost him the use of his right foot. Her mother had belonged to a mending circle, a group of women who gathered once a week in the middle of the village to mend some of the old clothes they had.

He never told his parents of his new friendship with Mikaleh knowing they would not approve. It hurt him to remember her accusing voice.
“You’re ashamed of me, is that it?”
“Of course not.”
“Then why do we always meet here. I’ve never once met your family. You don’t even talk about them.”
“There’s not much to say.”
“You just don’t really love me.”

He still remembered the hurt in her eyes. They’d lasted for another couple of weeks before his family found out.

He’d gone to visit Mikaleh on one afternoon, the sun struggling to peek through the clouds. He went up to her home and knocked softly on her door. It opened with his knocking and he cautiously stepped inside after calling her name.

After searching the now empty home for the third time Max stepped out defeated. How could she just leave without telling him?

When he got home his mother stood at the top of their grand staircase looking down ominously at him. He looked up at her, staring as her regal red dress trailed behind her like a puddle of blood.
“You knew,” he said, more of a statement than a question.

She simply nodded and watched as he walked away. His father was not home. He was hardly ever home. He walked by the worried servants who kept their eyes downcast as he passed.
“You should have known better, brother.” Said his older brother. He stood leaning against the wall, arms crossed over his chest.

Max did not feel like fighting with him so he just passed him, their shoulders bumping as he did.

He knew they were dead. There was no way her large family would just disappear by being threatened or bought off. He’d asked the people of the village if they saw anything and they all turned him away with sad eyes.

He’d spent years mourning Mikaleh and her family until he could no longer bear being anywhere near his own family or the village. He’d ran and ran until his legs collapsed from under him. When he found the strength to get back up he found himself among ships and crews.

After that he spent days, weeks, months learning everything he could about ships. He listened to the crews and other captains speaking about their adventures out in space and the other planets out there. With the money he’d taken with him, Max bought the ship which would be his until the crash.

He had remained one of the few of his crew which abstained from getting involved with women. He did not want to fall for someone and then lose them again. Now with Liz, his heart and mind were being thrown into a loop. He could not deny the instant attraction he’d felt when he first saw her on her ship, but now he was feeling something deeper. And it scared him.

“Hey bro,” Michael came up to him, hands in his pockets. “What you doing over here?”
Max simply shrugged and sighed. Yes he did think of Michael as his surrogate brother and loved him as such. His crew quickly became his family.

Max frowned when he sensed something different about Michael. He looked up at him and drew in a deep breath.
“Oh, uh yeah. I was going to tell you about that,” Michael stammered and checked over his shoulder.
“You and Maria huh?” Max teased with a smile.
“Yeah, it was sort of…unexpected. And incredibly hot, man.”

Max smiled and was happy for him. “But I really wanted to come and ask what happened back there,” Michael said and pointed over to the ship’s hatch.
“I don’t know,” Max sighed.

Liz stood up and walked to the opening of the ship. She could hear Max and Michael speaking from behind the ship, but decided it would be best to leave him alone for now.

Marlok and his crew were all huddled near the trees. She smiled when she saw her old friend. She could recognize some of the other crew members but other looked new. When Marlok spotted her looking at them he immediately stood up.

“Lil’ Bit,” he said with his characteristic huge smile on his face. Liz couldn’t help but smile as she approached him. “How are you?” he asked.
“Well all things considered…I’m alright.” She said. She grinned and launched herself at him and squeezed with all her might. “I’ve missed you.”

Marlok smiled and held his tears at bay. He had missed the young woman as well. “I heard everything,” she said.

He nodded and stepped back.
“I am sorry.”
“Don’t be. There was nothing you could do.” She said and took his large hand in hers. She had always been amazed by his large stature and features. When she was younger she remembered being afraid of him at first, but he was kind to her and the fear dissipated.

Marlok nodded and sighed.
“I am glad you are well. Your father would be proud.”

After talking with Marlok and reconnecting with some of the members she could recognize Liz found Maria leaning against a tree, a frown marring her face. Liz walked over to her, but the closer she got the powerful a strange scent became.
“What have you been doing?” Liz asked as she stood in front of Maria.
“What do you mean?”

Liz leaned closer and sniffed, grimacing.
“It smells like…like…” Liz started saying but stopped in order to remember where she had smelled that before. Maria’s frown deepened as Liz continued to sniff her.
“Ok I know I haven’t had the chance to shower but I do not stink.”

Liz was about to laugh when she stopped and gasped.
“You had sex with Michael!”

Maria’s eyes nearly bulged out of her head in surprise. She looked around to see if anyone had heard Liz’s outburst and then placed her hand over Liz’s mouth and pulled her farther away from the rest.
“What the hell? How do you know?”

Liz mumbled a response into Maria’s hand, and rolling her eyes Maria removed her hand.
“I could smell him on you, both of you, smells like sex.” Liz said.
“Oh god, really, you can smell that?” Maria said in disgust, she tried to smell herself but couldn’t detect anything. “I don’t smell anything.”
“Well I do. How can you not smell it? It’s so strong.”

“You’re crazy. I was around the rest and no one said anything. I do not smell!” Maria huffed.
“Well I can certainly smell it. And it hasn’t been that long ago. A couple of hours at least.” Liz said and then grinned. “So how was it?”

Maria rolled her eyes again but couldn’t help the smile that spread.
“He’s amazing, Liz.”
“He’s a great guy. You guys would compliment each other.” Liz said. She’d gotten to know Michael with their time together and had come to really think of his as a brother.
“Oh don’t get me wrong, I think he’s a good guy too, but a relationship? I don’t think so.”

Now it was Liz’s turn to roll her eyes. She could see the connection there, even if Maria denied it. She only wished she knew how she knew all this.

Well I've graduated College. Four years sure flew right by. It's crazy, I still remember walking into the dorms my first day, and now it's all over. Wow.

Part 34

Max’s own nostrils flared when the wind changed and it carried some pheromones over in his direction. Michael, who was still there with him, noticed the change.

He nodded and stepped away from Michael and leaned onto Liz. Michael and Maria did what Liz said and warned the rest non-Antarians to stay away.

Liz placed his left arm over her shoulder and helped him onto the steps leading into the ship. His breathing was becoming more labored and when she got him seated in one of the chairs she felt his hands come up to caress her arms.

Goosebumps formed on her skin where his hands grazed over. Her own breathing was quickening and she knew she made a mistake when she looked into his darkening eyes. His own pheromones wafted into her nose and she felt something calling out to her. This did not feel like the other times she was swept up by an Antarian’s Heat. No this was different.

She could feel her whole body being drawn to Max. His fingers continued to lightly dance over her skin, making her shiver.
“Max,” she whispered. She could not stop from lowering herself onto his lap. Even then his hands remained on her arms barely touching her.

“Liz,” he said in a near whisper. Her skin felt like raw energy. He could feel the small shock waves emanating from her and groaned when she had straddled his lap. They were only a breath apart now, their lips only inched closer. He knew Liz could feel how hard he was.

His eyes widened when he looked into Liz’s. Her own pupils were dilating and becoming bigger, blacking out her entire eye. He tried to snap out of the Heat enough to question the change in her but when he felt her grind down against his hardness he could no longer think.

Part 35

Liz’s small hand continued to pump Max’s member and he was nearly roaring with building pleasure. He didn’t really know how everything was happening. That’s when he felt the unmistakable pull of her soul wanting to bond with his own. He gasped when he felt the warm waves of her soul wrapping around his, the sense of near completion. He stared into her eyes and had to shake his head in disbelief when his own words were being repeated to him through Liz’s own pouty lips.

“NO!” He groaned and stood, grabbing Liz’s arms to keep her away. Liz shook her own head, trying to clear the shock of him stopping so abruptly and of the change she felt within herself. Max let her go when he was sure she was steady enough to stand on her own and quickly tucked himself back into his pants. Be turned away from her and paced, trying to bring his body back under control. He wanted Liz. He madly and truly, desperately wanted her, to make her his, but he couldn’t let it be a product of the Heat. When and if she ever came to him willingly, then he’d gladly take her, but the Heat took choice away from them both.

When he turned back around Liz was grabbing her shirt and closing it over her breasts. Her lips were red and swollen, still slightly wet from his saliva. Her hair looked tousled and her hands were still shaking. Her pupils were slowly shrinking to their regular size. He didn’t miss the slight look of disappointment on her face before she could disguise it.
“What just happened?” She asked.

Max shrugged, still not trusting his voice. Liz looked outside and saw the others at a distance straining to see what was going on in the ship. She secured her shirt and set to search for the repression shots. She located what she assumed to be a first-aid kit near the back of the ship. She found at least five vials of the of the serum. She sighed in semi-relief and retrieved one of the syringes.

“Ok, I found some,” she said and held up the filed syringe toward Max. Max nodded and turned to pull down his pants enough to expose the top of his buttocks. Liz held her breath at the sight of the hard muscles of his cheeks. She rubbed the sterile wipe she’d gotten from the kit on his left cheek, set her left hand on his hips and quickly injected him. She felt him flinch a little and smiled that such a strong man like himself could still flinch at an injection.

“All done,” she said and frowned slightly when he pulled his pants back up. “Max, uh what happened? I’ve been affected by the Heat before, but I’ve never felt anything like this.”

Max turned around to face her, his erection slowly fading away. He sat in the chair he had vacated and ran his hand through his hair.
“You were, going through the Heat like…like an Antarian.” He said unsteadily and then added, “We nearly bonded.”

Liz’s mouth opened in an “oh” of shock. She had felt something inside of her calling out, but she didn’t know it was that. She moved closer to him without thinking. After being jarred out of their intimate encounter she needed some sort of reassurance.
“Max, is that why you stopped?”

He looked up at her and saw her biting on her bottom lip. Her stance screamed insecurity. He reached out a hand and pulled her closer.
“I…I did not want to take advantage. It was the Heat that made you come to me. I did not want our first encounter to be a result of that,” he said before he could think about what his words implied.

“Our first encounter?” She asked with a small smile playing the edges of her mouth. She knew through their connection that he was attracted to her, and she could not deny that she was definitely attracted to him. When their connection flared this time she had seen his memories of Mikaleh. She had felt his anger when he learned of his family’s involvement in her disappearance. She also felt what he was while they were nearly bonding.

“Uh, I mean…of course it would be up to you…I mean not that you would agree but, look…I don’t know what to say,” Max stammered and turned a deep shade of red up to the tips of his ears.
“It’s ok Max.” Liz smiled trying to comfort his uneasiness. She squeezed the hand that was still holding hers. “I’ve thought about it too, to be honest.” She felt her own skin begin to blush at her statement. “And I have to thank you for stopping, this. I know I wouldn’t have regretted it if we had gone through with it, but you’re right I would like our ‘first encounter’ to be because we wanted it not because of the Heat.”

Max practically beamed at her and pulled her down to place a chaste kiss on her lips. He smiled when her hair fell down around him caressing his face.


“Is it safe?” They heard Maria yell from outside the ship. Liz laughed at the sudden interruption and Max merely smiled. Liz reluctantly pulled back, causing Max to release her hand and leaned out of the ship.
“Yeah, it’s safe.” She yelled back.

Everyone gathered outside of the ship, Antarians and others alike smiling conspicuously. Liz and Max stood at the forefront waiting for everyone to settle down.
“Ok,” Liz began, “This ship is not going to be able to get us clear of this planet without being immediately noticed. Plus, this ship only has enough power to circle the orbit, not get us clear of it. We have to find another transport and we need to get enough supplies to last us a pretty long while.”

Liz looked over at Max who nodded and took over.
“We are welcoming Marlok’s crew into our company, and they may choose to travel with us if they so accept our offer. For now, we need to lay low. I do not doubt that Khivar is currently sending out parties to search for us. We are not safe here. None of us have anything else to trade or any money to buy supplies. We cannot simply take what we need right now without a safe way out.”

The others grumbled at the bleak description of their plight, but Max raised his hand to continue.
“I know our escape seems impossible, but I have an idea.”

~*~

Max and Rath stood in front of the small home and knocked. After a few moments of waiting the door slowly opened and the small girl smiled up at them.
“You came back,” she beamed and launched herself at Max’s legs.

“It’s good to see you again,” Max said and smiled back at her.
“Symona, who’s at the…door?” The woman came forth and opened the door wider. “You come back,” she smiled warmly at them.
“Yes,” Max said, “We were actually wondering if you could ask for your help again.”

“You saved our daughter. We will be more than pleased to help the two of you again,” Kevnar said as he stepped forth next to his wife and daughter.

“Actually, there’s more than just us,” Rath spoke up and looked to the side. Kevnar peeked out to see who else was out there and his eyes widened when the group of more than twenty moved out from the sides of the house.

“Looks like I have more plates to serve,” his wife said and hastily went into the kitchen to prepare more food.

It is so hot over here in the west coast. I don't know how the rest of the nation is doing but I am melting over here. And it's getting hotter earlier in the day. Summer is definitely not my favorite season.

Part 36

Everyone managed to squeeze into the small home. Little Symona had settled on Max’s lap and Liz couldn’t help but smile at that. Kevnar’s wife had managed to make more stew and serve enough for everyone with the help of Isabel and Ava.

“Now that we have properly feasted, you can tell me what you need,” said Kevnar. Max cleared his throat and felt Liz’s hand move to squeeze his knee.
“I must be completely honest with you. We helped free these men from prison. Three of our friends had also been taken into custody, because of me,” before Liz could say anything he kept going.

“I am the space pirate Maxel. We are all pirates. We are right now hiding from authorities and by helping us you would be putting yourself in unwanted danger.” Max paused to let what he’d just said sink in.

A series of emotions played in the faces of Kevnar and his wife, but no one expected the whole-hearted grin on Kevnar’s face.
“Again I ask, what is it you need?”

After Max explained their transport problem Kevnar had stood up and whispered something into his wife’s ear. She nodded and walked toward the back end of the house. “Come, follow us,” Kevnar said and waited until everyone had stood up before following his wife.

His wife stood before a blank wall at the end of a hallway and waited for her husband to stand beside her. “You say you need a ship eh,” Kevnar said, grinning. He nodded to his wife who placed her hand against the wall. Kevnar placed his hand on the wall as well and the others stood back as a glow spread from their hands opening a hidden door beneath the floor.

As the door slid open a set of stairs was revealed and both Kevnar and his wife descended. Max took the lead, followed by Liz and the others down the steps.

“Oh my god,” Liz gasped as they all found themselves staring at a ship. While the top of the house looked homely and quaint the bottom was anything short of a lab. All chrome equipment covered the walls and a small platform supported the ship which was a lot bigger than either Max’s and Liz’s ships were.

“Good ship, eh?” Kevnar said with a proud grin. He switched on some gauges and the hatch of the ship opened. “Let’s look inside, no?”

Max followed Kevnar up the steps into the ship. Inside was an even grander experience. Alex and Tess marveled at the gleaming, seemingly new diagnostic equipment. Everything in fact looked like new.
“How long have you had this ship here?” Max asked.

“This has been here for fifteen years.” Kevnar said.
“But everything looks new,” Liz commented as she passed another set of controls.
“Mostly yes. I don’t let my possessions waste away. I have friends that keep me up with new equipment. I have stopped flying, yes, but I would never let my ship deteriorate.”

Max smiled at the sound of Kevnar’s voice. Yes, he’d felt the same about his ship and taking a glance at Liz, knew she felt the same as well.

“You a pirate too?” Rath asked as he ran his hand over the chrome inside.
“No. A life like that would have driven this one away,” Kevnar nodded his head toward his wife who smiled demurely. “No, I was in transport. I worked in a transport company for years before saving up enough money for my own ship. After that I went on my own.”

“If you don’t mind me asking, why live in seeming poverty?” Liz asked.
“If we look poor they leave us alone. To live in luxury here only leads to trouble. I build this underground hanger by myself,” he paused when his wife cleared her throat, “I mean by myself, with the help of my wife, of course.”

“This is beautiful,” Alex said in awe. He couldn’t help but make his way toward the flight controls. “Look it’s the latest technology. Precise location tracking, stealth settings…” Alex trailed on to himself.

“I think he’s about to blow a load in his pants,” Zan teased.

They continued to look around the ship and found that there were nearly twenty rooms on board.
“Why are there so many room if you were just a transport ship?” Max asked.
“Most of the room were used for storage. Only three of the rooms were really used for chambers. The others I just changed into chambers after I retired.” Kevnar explained.

Liz walked along behind Max, observing the interior of the ship. This was one of the best ships she’d seen in her life. It even challenged the memory she had of her father’s ship. She looked behind at the others and smiled as they entered the rooms, already claiming them.

“I have to ask, why are you so willing to give up this great ship?” Max finally asked when the tour was over.
“You healed my daughter. She was nearly on death’s door and you saved her. Giving you my ship is a small price for the life of my little Symona,” Kevnar said and smiled when he heard his daughter’s laughter ringing through the ship. “Thank you again.”

Max shook his head and put his hand on the older man’s shoulder.
“There is really no need to thank me. I was only too glad to be able to help.” Max replied.

“Do you think you have a handle on the controls?” Kevnar asked Alex. Tess, Isabel, Kyle and Alex all sat in front of the controls. They had been listening as Kevnar explained the controls and described all the instruments.

“Yeah. You gave great instructions. We should have it from here,” Alex replied for all of them.
“Well I guess this is good bye and good luck,” Kevnar said as he turned to face Max.
“We will need the luck, but the good bye will not be forever. I will definitely try to visit.” Max said.

Kevnar nodded and walked over towards his wife and daughter who stood outside the ship. “I’m going to open the room. You’ll be going a couple of feet in front of you and it’ll open up in a small clearing behind my home.” Kevnar said and waved as the ship’s hatch began to close.

He moved towards the controls against the wall and punched in a few codes for another door to slide open. He smiled as he saw the ship slowly moving toward the opening.
“You do not regret this, husband?” Asked his wife. Kevnar looked down at his small daughter who was holding onto his hand.
“No, I do not regret it, wife.”

“The clearing is ten yards ahead.” Alex said as he looked at the navigation controls.
“I love this ship,” Tess beamed. She looked at the controls in front of her and applied the correct codes that Kevnar had given them.

Through the window they could see the hydraulic lift that Kevnar described. It was now lowering from where it covered the forest floor.
“Ok, slow down. We’re going to get on the lift and it’ll get us out of here.”

Max and Liz both sat in the center, side by side. Liz kept glancing over at Max with a smile. She couldn’t get the idea of she and Max together. His words kept echoing in her mind about him wanting their first time to be about them and not the Heat.

Through the corner of his eye Max could catch Liz’s glances his way. His hand itched to reach over and grasp hers but he kept both hands on the arm rests.

The lift was safely down and the ship maneuvered over it. Once they were stable the lift began to raise them up onto the clearing.
“Ok, we’re out.” Alex said and set the control for a lift off. Beside him Kyle took hold of the steering controls and waited until Max gave the order.

“You do it,” Max said as he looked over at Liz. She smiled back and nodded.
“Ok guys, take us up.”

Part 37

They’d cleared the exit and were now hovering in the clearing.
“I’m in love,” Alex announced suddenly which made everyone burst into laughter. “She’s a beauty. Can’t you feel her?”

Isabel smiled in understanding. She could speak no ill of their past ship, but this one was…
“Beautiful,” Tess said beside her. Isabel nodded.

Liz smiled at her friends but couldn’t help feel the pang of regret at having lost her ship. Yes this ship was amazing, but her ship had been an extension of herself. She’d repaired that ship into working order. When she’d first bought it, it had been nothing short of a heap of junk, but after it was her life. Her home.

Max could feel her sadness and reached over to grasp her hand. With that small connection her emotions, thoughts and memories washed over him in a gentle current. He closed his eyes as the images of Liz and her ship came at him. He understood perfectly. He tried to send her his own memories of his ship and smiled when he could see the change in her face.

“We can make this our new ship.” Max told her. “I mean, if you wish to continue with this mixed crew.”

Liz felt his emotions through their connection. She felt the hope and even, yes, love that he felt.
“A ship with two captains,” she said as if thinking it over. “You sure you could handle having to share that responsibility?”

Max grinned and brought her hand up to his lips, kissing the back of her hand.
“I think I handle it.”

“OK guys we got a problem.” Kyle said as he looked down at his monitor. “Says here Antar is on full planetary lock down. Satellites and guard ships are in orbit monitoring outgoing transport. Their asking for proper authoritization for exiting the planet.”

“This baby got any cannons?” Zan asked. Rath grinned at his friend and cracked his knuckles at the prospect of a battle.
“You are not going to damage this ship so soon!” Alex yelled over his shoulder.

Marlok and his crew had been sitting in silence the whole time but Marlok chose now to speak.
“I may know a way to get out of here undetected.”

Liz turned around to look at the older man. The only tie to her father since his death.
“If you have a plan, speak up man,” Liz said with a grin. The older man grinned back and nodded. “We’re going to need to fly to Lower Antar.”

“Home!” Zan and Rath both cheered and gave each other high fives while Lonnie merely grinned to herself.
“Lower Antar? You mean you want me to take this goddess into that mess?” Alex asked, getting death glares from all three Lower Antarians.

“You got stealth. Use it.” Rath said menacingly.
“What will we be doing in Lower Antar?” Max asked.
“There is something there that will help.” Marlok said cryptically.

The trip into Lower Antar would take a week. Liz walked down the new corridors confident in leaving Isabel and Tess in charge with Alex and Kyle. She continued down the dim corridor and smiled when she heard her crew members ooohing and aweing at their new quarters.

She headed down to the bottom of the ship and entered the clinic area and watched as Serena inspected the equipment.
“So how does everything look?” Liz asked jolting Serena out of her revere.

“Oh, this is a great med lab. He’s a little low on meds and Heat shots, but other than that it’s great.”

Liz nodded and left her friend and walked back up to the main level. She’d picked out her room in their initial tour so she walked directly to it now. Her body felt tired but her mind was going a mile a minute still busying processing everything that had happened.

“You look like you should get some rest,” Liz stopped and turned around to where Maria stood. Her long time friend and second in command was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed over her chest.
“That’s what I was planning to do,” Liz said with a smile. Maria nodded and then pushed off the wall walking toward Liz with open arms.

“I was so afraid I was never going to see you again,” Maria confessed as she held onto Liz. Liz sighed and relaxed into the embrace.
“Me too.”

“Ok, enough of the mush,” Maria said and pulled back wiping the tears the she refused to let fall. “It’s good to have you back,” she said and walked back to the room she had picked out.
Liz smiled as Maria walked away and then entered her own room. But when the door slid open she saw that it was not empty.
“Max?”

Max looked up from his seat. He’d been waiting for her to come to her room. Being that there wasn’t any other seat in the room he had to sit on the bed. He looked tired, drained, and when he looked up at her he saw the same reflected in her eyes.

“Hi,” he said in a near whisper. He moved to stand up but fell back onto the bed when his legs gave out.
“Are you ok?” Liz asked as she rushed to his aide.

“Just tired, I guess,” he said with a weak smile. “Have you been feeling better?” He asked.
“I’ve been fine. I just feel…different.” Liz said. She sat down on the bed beside him and tentatively rested her head on his shoulder. “I guess we’re a lot more alike now.”

“Yeah,” Max grinned. He shifts so his chest is facing her which makes her have to lift her head from his shoulder, “Can I do a quick scan? Just to be sure,” he asks.

Liz nodded and let Max place his hands on either side of her head over her temples. “Just like before. Keep your eyes on me.” He said softly. She nodded and continued to stare into Max’s eyes. Slowly their breathing sync up and the connection flared.

Liz felt the pull that she had before. Like her soul was being sucked into Max’s. Her chest felt tight and her body felt warm like she was soaking in a bath. And then Max was all around her, in her, shooting through every fiber of her.

She felt tears brimming her eyes at the concern he felt for her. She remembered laying in the cell clinging to the memory of him. He’d brought her back from death. She zoomed past all of his childhood memories, only getting glimpses of emotions. What she focused on were the moments the shared. The Heat induced make out session they’d had, and the struggle he had to overcome to force himself to stop. And she’d been among enough Antarians to know that fighting it off was near to impossible.

Then she felt the gust of wind as she was sucked back into the present time and she looked out through her eyes again at Max.
“Wow,” she said and reached up to wipe her eyes. She could see the same shimmer of tears in Max’s eyes.

“Everything looks okay,” he said even as his voice broke.
“What did you see?” she asked.
“I’m sorry you had to hurt like that, alone. I’m going to kill those bastards,” Max said and Liz knew he’d seen her time in the Tower.

“It’s ok now Max. I’m ok.”
“I never wanted anything to happen to you. I never meant to change you. But I didn’t…couldn’t let you die. I know we’re still getting to know each other, that we’re being brought together through all this chaos, but I can’t stop from feeling for you. I don’t think I can stop it, and I don’t think I want to.”

Max never moved his hands away from her face. His thumbs were now stroking her cheeks, and his fingers were massaging her scalp. Liz reached up and covered his hands with her own. She turned her head so that his right hand hovered in front of her face and she kissed his palm. The same hand that had brought her back.

“You love me,” Liz whispered against his palm. She could see Max nod and lean so that his fore head rested against hers. “I’ve never really felt love for anyone other than my father. I love my mom, but she was always so unhappy. But I knew that I’d always have my father’s love. I used him as a model for the man I’d want to marry.

“And here you are. My compassionate, strong, brave pirate,” she said with a shy smile. And then his lips were on hers. This was not a desperate kiss, no, this was a kiss full of promise. A promise of a tender yet passionate love.

When they pulled back Max was smiling broadly.
“I’ve never met a woman like you,” he said. “You’d do anything to protect those you care about.”
“Including offering myself to an Antarian ruffian,” she teased.
“Yes, including that,” he grinned. “I do love you. I think I started loving you back on your ship.”

“One night Maria came to me as you. She was trying to prove that I wanted you,” Liz said.
“What happened?”
“I tried to kiss her.”

Max ducked his head and tried not to laugh, but the image of Liz trying to kiss Maria was too humorous.
“Michael wanted me to confess that I wanted you too, but he did not have to resort to such drastic means.”

“You’re not having any symptoms of the Heat now are you?” Liz asked.
“No. You?” Max looked up into her eyes and only saw love and want in them. Liz shook her head and leaned forward to kiss him again.

This time the kiss went deeper. Max pulled her onto his lap, and it was déjà vu. His erection pressed against her core and she shifted to rub herself on it. She smiled when Max growled, yes, growled into her mouth.

Max loved the feel of her soft skin. It was perfectly heated with desire. Her scent reminded him of a warm day in the field, sweet and comforting. The quiet noises she was making were pushing him further and further to the edge.

Liz smiled when she felt the hand she’s placed on her breast begin to trace circles over her nipple. “I know what I want, and I want you, Max.”

She worked to remove his clothes, starting with his shirt which she pulled up over his head revealing his bronzed chest. Her brown nipples pebbled and she couldn’t help but to lean down and capture one between her teeth. When she bit down, Max hissed and pulled her back up for a devouring kiss.

They both stood then and pushed off their pants before falling back onto the bed. In mid fall Max maneuvered so Liz would fall under him. They landed on the mattress with a soft bounce and both laughed in delight at the feel of each other’s skin.

Liz nodded in understanding. Lonnie was also from Lower Antar and she couldn’t have asked for anyone better.
“Do you know what Marlok has planned?”

“No,” Liz said with a sigh. “He wouldn’t tell me anything.”
“He seems like a great man. If your father trusted him to be in his crew then I shouldn’t be worried.”

OK guys I have not yet finished the next part but I feel so bad for taking so long in posting that I come to drop off a sneak peek...

I plan on trying to work on this during work. Unfortunately I cannot use the net there for anything other than work. And since I work at the front desk, I'm too chicken s#!t to try and use it for anything else. So I am going to be working on it in the mean time during my overtime hours.

Serena looked up from the desk to see Maria standing at the doorway.
“What’s up?”
“I think I need you to check me up.” Maria said.

“Really? Are you ok? What’s wrong?” Serena asked worriedly. Maria had never come to her lab willingly. She couldn’t remember a time when Maria was sick or injured enough to need her help.

“I don’t know. I mean I feel ok, but there’s something nagging me. I was trying to shift in my room and it wasn’t happening as easily.” Maria walked closer and sat in the chair closest to Serena.

“Want me to do a physical?” Serena asked.
“I don’t know. Maybe it’s just stress. I guess I just wanted someone to talk to.” Maria smiled. “Oh I almost forgot,” Maria grinned wickedly, “You owe me fifty bucks missy.”

“Huh?” Serena asked, frowning.
“Remember the bet we made back on the ship?”
“What…Oh! Seriously? How do you know?”

“I heard them.” Maria laughed. “Liz had gone into her room and I had seen Max go in there earlier to wait for her. At first they just did the whole talking spiel, but then they got down to the good stuff.”

“Damn I really thought she’d resist.” Serena grumbled.
“Well believe it or not, she’s the one who started it.”
“Really? Hmm, looks like our captain is finally loosening up.” Serena said, “Well you’re going to have to take an IOU cause I don’t have any more money.”

They would be arriving in Lower Antar in one day. Liz and Max had assembled everyone and were now sitting among their joined crew.
“Ok we’ll be in Lower Antar tomorrow.” Liz said. “Marlok you haven’t told us anything about what you had planned. Now would be a good a time as any to fill us in.”

Marlok sighed and stood up.
“Lil’…I mean, Captain,” he corrected himself with a smile, “What I have planned is best if no one knows until it’s time to execute.”

“Please call me Liz,” she said. “Marlok I really think it’s best if we were all aware of what was going to happen ahead of time. We’ve had enough surprises.”
“I’m sorry but I really must keep this as spontaneous as possible”

Liz looked to her left at Max and shrugged. She didn’t know Marlok to be so secretive and she couldn’t help but be apprehensive.

“I don’t like going into things blindly,” Max said and stood to approach the older man. Marlok also stood to meet him. “You flew under Jeff Parker,” Max said, “You fared to survive the Tower, you’ve helped us so far, but I don’t think I can do this the way you want.”

Marlok nodded and then shrugged. He looked back at his crew, the men he’d lived and fought with almost his entire life.
“I have heard much of you Maxel of Upper Antar,” he said, “I know the uncertainty of not having a set plan is not something you are comfortable with, but I can see no other way to do this.”

“Why? I don’t understand why in times like these you want to keep us in the dark,” Michael said from his seat, “We’ve had enough surprises with crashing and then being captured. We need a real plan, not something that only you know about.”

“I’m sorry,” was all Marlok said.

“Ok we’re now entering Lower Antar,” Alex announced from his seat. The trees were sparse here and finding a safe place to land was going to prove difficult.

Alex and Isabel worked together to find a good location to hide the ship.
“Still not going to tell us anything?” Michael asked Marlok. The two were sitting next to each other.
“I know you are not pleased with how I am doing this. But believe me when I say that I do this for the best.”

Michael grumbles under his breath and feel the craft settle in for a landing. He looked over at Maria who was sitting next to Liz and smiled. They hadn’t spoken since their encounter against the tree but he would often catch her sneaking glances in his direction.

He wondered what was going on in her head.

Maria could feel his eyes on her but she kept looking out the window. She didn’t know what to say to him. When she had practically attacked him against the tree it was out of desperation, a need to feel something other than fear.

Yes it was the most amazing sex she’d had in her life, but she didn’t know what to feel about it. She hardly even knew Michael. He seemed like an ok guy but with everything they’ve been through, Michael was still practically a stranger, given, a rather hot stranger.

“Liz, I know you and Marlok have history and all, but can we really trust him?” Maria asked.
“Maria, I know how you feel. I don’t like not knowing what’s going on, but I do trust him.” Liz explained.

The ship finally settled down and everyone turned to look at Marlok.
“So what now duke?” Rath asked.

OK so i finally got around to writing more of this fic. I hope you all haven't given up hope just yet. I have been sneaking time at work to write more. Unfortunately I can't log on to the net from work so I just write onto my email and send myself the new parts I write.

I have been thinking hard about the future of this fic, and don't worry I do plan on finishing it. Right now it's been harder than usual to find the time to work on it due to working full time and even going to school full time. I never thought I could be so tired. I go to work, get some fic writing done on the down low, and then rush over to school.

Anyways, I have the continuation of the sneak peek I left last time. I know I took way too long to update, please don't stone me.

Part 39B


Once they were satisfied that the ship was safely concealed everyone gathered around it. Michael and Rath were both leaning against the side of the ship, arms crossed. Zan stood beside them, arms securely wrapped around Ava who stood in front of him.

Isabel stood beside Maria and Serena and watched as Alex kept shifting his weight nervously from one foot to the other.
“Alex, keep still,” Isabel commanded and Alex immediately stood stock still.
“You can breathe you know,” Serena teased him.

Maria cast a glance over at Michael and caught him looking at her again. It was starting to really get on her nerves. When they’d first met Michael was some tough, arrogant, prick. And she respected that. Now he was all….she didn’t even know what he was becoming but she knew it couldn’t be anything good.

“Max’s second was staring at you again,” Serena said and winked at Maria.
“Yeah well Kyle isn’t exactly averting his gaze when you’re around,” Maria replied and Serena blushed.

Meanwhile Liz had pulled Marlok aside.
“You’re really planning on keeping me out of the loop aren’t you big guy?” Liz asked.
“Lil’ Bit, I’m doing what’s best, for everyone.”
“I really don’t like how that sounds Marlok. I don’t want you and your crew to do anything, well, stupid.”

“Trust me Lil’ Bit, what I have planned is anything but stupid. Now we have to head fifty yard away from Main Lower Antar. It will not be easy, but once we get past the city, what I am looking for should be well hidden.”

Tess stood next to David and noticed the way he couldn't stop fidgeting.
"Are you really that nervous about this?" she asked, confused.
"No," he said curtly. "I'm hungry."

Tess nodded and tried to suppress the fear. She's forgotten that it had been over a week that David had fed. And a hungry vamp was a dangerous vamp.

David turned to her and saw how she flinched.
"Jeez, I'm not going to bite you," he snarled. "just hold me will you. I'm cold."

Tess could see the sweat breaking out on his forehead and wrapped her arms around his neck, allowing him to rest his head in the crook of hers. A sign of faith on her part.

David sighed and his breath tickled her neck, which cause her hairs to stand on end.
"Don't be afraid of me, please," he said, but it sounded like a low growl.

Eliza wouldn't admit she was eavesdropping, but she was. She could see how Tess' body looked tense as David almost melted against her.
"He hasn't eaten," she whispered to Chiron. He nodded and wrapped his arms around her in a protective gesture.
"He is our friend, but if he gets out of control..." Chiron said but left the threat hanging. Eliza nodded.

Serena felt when Kyle's spine went rigid and how his gaze shot over at David and Tess.
"What's wrong?" she asked.
"David. He's hungry."
"So?" She asked with a frown.
"Hungry, he's a vamp remember."

At the reminder Serena gasped and noticed how the previous sweet looking embrace now looked terrifying.

"Don't be afraid of me," David said softly against Tess' neck.
"I'm not," she said, struggling to keep her voice steady.
"I can smell it."

Tess began to stroke the back of his head calmly.
"Just relax ok. We'll find you something to eat."
"It hurts baby. It's burning, but I'm so cold."

Tess felt her eyes burning. She hated that he was hurting, and it scared he what going without feeding for so long was doing to him. But his fingers dug into her back and his breath was coming out in fast pants against her neck.

She tries to walk backwards with him, into the brush behind him, incase something does happen. She does it all with a smile on her face so the others think it’s alright. She know he will not hurt her, but the brush of his fangs against her neck let her know that it may not be him anymore, not her David.

Liz can feel a pull as she looks over at Tess and the vampire David. She can see Tess smiling, and the way that she runs her hand over David’s head and neck, but she can see how tense Tess’ movements are. They seem forced in a way.
“What is it?” Max asks her.
“Something is wrong with David.” She replies and nods her head over to them.

Max looked over at his friend and crewmate and noticed the way his back was arched and the way he was rubbing his face against Tess’ neck. To anyone else it would just appear to be affectionate, but he knew it was beyond that. David was not a monster, but the thirst in him was.

“David!” Max called out in the familiar commanding voice. David stopped and raised his head but did not turn around to face Max. “David can I talk to you, over here, please.”

Everyone looked up then, catching the way Max’s voice caught, the caution in it. They all turned to David then.

“Babe, Max wants to talk to you,” Tess whimpers.
“You’re afraid, you’re all afraid.” He growled. She felt him tighten his hold on her and grimaced. “I won’t hurt you,” he said but she could feel him pressing his fangs into her skin. “It won’t hurt.”

Max saw the pain in Tess’ face and ran toward the couple. He tried to pull David off of Tess, but David’s embrace was firm. Liz was there, pulling at David’s hair, but it only made him angry and he thrust his teeth deep enough to cause Tess to scream out. Everyone rushed them then.

David growled and pulled away, his teeth stained with Tess’ blood.
“Oh fuck,” Rath jumped back and nearly knocked over Lonnie.
“What do you mean ‘oh fuck’?” Lonnie said. “He’s your friend,”
“I’ve never seen him like that.”

David pushed Tess out in front of him and she stumbled and fell. She looked up at him, hurt and scared.
“Fuck you!” David yelled and ran into the brush behind him.
“Let him go,” Liz said as Max moved to follow him. “You can’t help him right now.”

Serena and Isabel held Tess up, one on either side. She wasn’t really hurt but she wouldn’t stop crying. She had wanted to go after him but they held her back.
“He’ll get what he needs and come back. He’ll know how to find us again,” Serena said.
“What if he doesn’t?” Tess asked, “What if he doesn’t want to find us.”
“He will,” Isabel said.

“Ok, we really need to move out.” Max called out. He stood next to Marlok whom stood with his large arms crossed over his chest. “So you’re still not going to tell me anything?” Marlok simply shook his head.
“Listen to Lil’ Bit. I’ve never given anyone any reason to not trust me.”
“I trust you. Liz trusts you, and that’s enough. But I don’t like this plan.”

“I don’t like that we’s all going,” Rath finally said. “We should leave the chicks behind,”
“What?” Lonnie spoke up. “Why we gotta stay behind. I fuckin’ live here.”
“Yeah but they don’t.” Rath indicated to the other girls.
“They can take care of theyselves too.” Lonnie said and stood up to Rath, glaring at him.

“We’re all going,” Liz said. “We split up before and that didn’t work out well.”

Marlok gathered his crew and led the way through the dense trees.

Marlok led the way with his crew at the front. Liz, Max and their now blended crew followed close behind keeping vigilant watch on their surroundings.

"There's sure to be an all out bulletin for our arrests now," Alex said.
"Listen you," Isabel stopped right in front of him. "All you do is bitch and moan. If you don't have anything productive or helpful to say, then shut up," she said forcefully.

Alex swallowed hard, forcing his Adam's apple to bob painfully in his throat. Isabel's eyes bore into his and it was in that instant where every neuron process in his brain switched and focused all their attention to how intensely blue Isabel's eyes really were.

"Yes ma'am," he said with a geeky grin. She rolled her eyes at him and turned her back on him to hide the smile on her own face.

"How long do you give them?" Kyle whispered to Serena at his side. She frowned not really knowing what he was referring to and looked over at Alex and Isabel ahead of them.

"Those two," Kyle said, "they got stuff brewing. Alex is now seeing her differently, and Isabel realized just how cute he can be."

"How do you do that?" Serena asked. "Like, does it come to you in thoughts or...I don't get it."

Kyle laughed softly and took her hand.
"it's like a feeling. When Isabel reprimanded Alex just now I could feel his embarrassment, and then it became something else. With Isabel it was frustration but when he responded she changed too. I can pick up their emotions, like you would I guess.
When you see two people that are obviously in love it's like you can feel it too. Same thing with two people who obviously hate each other. But what with you would just be intuition, with me I actually feel what they do."

Serena nodded and looked back over at Alex and Isabel. Isabel was walking ahead of him now but Serena could detect a slight change in her walk, something a little more feminine. Alex followed close behind with a smile on his face and a lighter step to his tread.

Yeah, she could see it now.

Tess walked between Eliza and Chiron. She kept her arms wrapped around her self and tear tracks still showed on her cheeks. Eliza looked over Chiron as she placed her arm on Tess' shoulder. Chiron looked back and frowned. Neither of them had any idea how to comfort Tess so they remained silent, but at her sides.

"Lil' Bit, this is where I must ask for more of your trust," Marlok said as they stopped.
"Why?" Liz asked. Max stood beside her, arms crossed.

"We must part here," Marlok replied.
"Part here? As in what exactly?" Liz asked, not really liking what she was hearing.
"As in your crew stays here while mine goes on."

"You've taken us all this way and now you want us to stay here while you go off to who knows where still not telling us a thing?" Liz demanded to know.

Marlok sighed an looked over to his crew. The men looked tired and he knew they were in desperate need of retirement.
"Trust in me when I say I do not plan anything that would endanger you or your crew. What I do and what I intend to do is all solely for the benefit of all of you."

"What about you?" Max asked. Marlok looked over at him and smiled.
"What benefits Liz benefits me," Marlok replied shrewdly.

Marlok stepped forward and pulled Liz into a tight embrace. Liz felt her eyes watering with emotion. "Your father would be so proud of you Lil' Bit. As am I."

Liz nodded against his chest and pulled back into Max's waiting arms.
"You will know when all is safe," Marlok said. "When I have completed my task you will be safe to leave."

Without letting anymore questions be asked, Marlok and his crew turned and walked away.
