"He's doing fine," she answers with a blush "busy of course, but doing really good."

I grin at her,"That's great." and squeeze her hand "Once you have a bit of a rest I want to show you the new dogs Kivar bought.One's for me and one's for him,he's going to get it trained so he can take it along when he goes out hunting."

Realising that Kivar is very quiet I glance back and notice the intense look on his face but since he says nothing I carry on walking.As we reach Tess' room though I hear him gasp and stop,but he smiles at us so I don't say anything in front of Tess.

Stopping at her bedroom door I take hold of Kivar's hand,"We'll see you in a while Tess after you've had a rest and had a chance to freshen up.If you need anything ring the bell rope,and I have assigned a few ladies-in-waiting to you."

Puliing Kivar away gently I ask him "What's wrong love?Do you want to go lie down?"

"No, no, my love. Nothing's wrong, except that I forgot that Nickolas requested a meeting with me and I had only just remembered. You should spend some time with Ava and I'll go see what it was that he wanted." I lean in and kiss her slightly. "I know you were looking forward to her visit and I'm sure there are things that you girls will want to chat about without me around. Now might be the best time." Besides, I need to take another one of those pills before my head explodes. I'm glad I'm able to hide this from her. I really need to get more tests done. I'm sure that the sooner we discover more about this parasite, the easier it will be to get rid of it.

"No, no, my love. Nothing's wrong, except that I forgot that Nickolas requested a meeting with me and I had only just remembered. You should spend some time with Ava and I'll go see what it was that he wanted."

I frown at his protests as he kisses me,slightly annoyed that he plays everything off like it is no big deal.

"I know you were looking forward to her visit and I'm sure there are things that you girls will want to chat about without me around. Now might be the best time."

"I just told her to go rest for a while before we go out." I say in a sharp voice but instantly regret it and soften my tone "I mean there's plenty of time for us to chat.I think I'll go write a letter home now since you're going for a meeting."

Vilandra's sharp tone almost causes me to lose my temper but thankfully, she catches herself and changes back to her usual sweet voice. Her mentioning of writing home causes mixed emotions to come up in me. The whispers from the other night seem to be trying to talk to me again and I mentally push them back. I narrow my eyes somewhat at her and say, "You know, you don't have to get so upset with me. I was simply trying to be understanding and give you two some time together without me as well as fulfill my obligations." My words sound somewhat cold but I cannot seem to take them back. "Go write your letter. I'm sure your family misses hearing from you," I say a bit warmer but still a bit distantly. I turn from her to move down the hall to find Nickolas.

"You know, you don't have to get so upset with me. I was simply trying to be understanding and give you two some time together without me as well as fulfill my obligations." he says indignantly and it makes me feel guilty and frustrated at the same time

"Go write your letter. I'm sure your family misses hearing from you," his tone is polite and indifferent so I turn in the direction of my chambers but not before saying over my shoulder at his retreating figure,"Knowing what's wrong with my husband is more important to me than spending time with his sister."

I said it a little too loudly but this time I don't regret it and stride back in to my room,shutting the door with a bang.

"Knowing what's wrong with my husband is more important to me than spending time with his sister." I stop in my tracks for a moment at her words and also at her tone and the fact that she's almost yelling them at me. Then her door shuts with a bang and I shake my head. Are we never going to have a week of total happiness? As the pain in my head increases, I continue down the hall and pull the pills from my pocket. I carry them with me at all times. I don't want Vilandra to find them and ask more questions. Popping one into my mouth, I swallow it quickly before coming upon one of the guards in the hallway. "Tell Nickolas I will see him in my study in ten minutes," I tell him. That should be long enough for the pill to take effect. He starts to move off before I stop him. "Wait. Also have some of the gardens finest blooms sent to the queens room...but come get a note that I will have waiting in my study before they are delivered to her."

"Very good, your majesty," he says and moves off to do as I have bid him. No need to let this go on between Vilandra and me for long.

Upon entering my room I go straight to my desk and pull out a letter pad and a pen and sit doww to write to my mother but my little tiff with Kivar has upset me and I can't really form any thoughts to put down on the paper.

Pushing my chair back in frustration I go stand by the window overlooking the royal gardens trying to push the anger aside.I don't remember the last time I shouted at Kivar.Actually I do,it was over a year ago...the first time he struck me.

Since he didn't react to my raised voice I am now more certain than ever that he is trying to change for the better.I should try and be more patient with him.He isn't used to sharing his feelings.

A few minutes after I settle into my study, I pull out a small card with the royal seal on it and take out one of my favorite pens. "Lonnie, please be patient with me. Things between us are working towards the better but we still have a long way to go. These past couple of days have been heaven and I hate that you feel I keep things from you. But you must believe me that you have nothing to worry about. I love you deeply and wholely. Yours for eternity, Kivar." There! That should help the situation.

There is a knock on my door and one of the servants enters, carrying a big bouquet of varying flowers. "The flowers, milord," she says quietly, obviously afraid of me.

I wave her forward, folding the card in half. "Perfect. I'm sure the queen will love them. Take this card with you and deliver them all yourself."

As she leaves, Nickolas comes in. "Your majesty, there are rumors around the castle that you are unwell," he says after I address him.

I stand and tower over him, angry and afraid. "Who is spreading these rumors?" I ask, my voice dangerously low and the glint in my eye promising retribution.

The knock on my door breaks my train of thoughts and I look around,"Come in." I order and smile when I see the flowers

"These for you my lady." says the girl with a bow and retreats hastily "Thank you." I call after her

Finding the note I open it eagerly,knowing that it is from Kivar,"Lonnie, please be patient with me. Things between us are working towards the better but we still have a long way to go. I hold it to my chest for a moment before putting it down on my desk and walk towards the other room to get a vase,the bouquet in my hand.

Nickolas quakes a little in fear of my tone. "It would seem that it can be traced back to one of the doctor's assistants, Lord Kivar. He mentioned something to one of the servants and he in turn told one of the maids..." he trails off as my look fills with my fury.

I take a step towards him, hold out my arms and turn in a circle in front of him. "Do I look like I'm ill, Nickolas? You tell anyone and everyone that the first person that I hear of by name spreading these rumors any further will be severely punished. There's nothing wrong with me. I also want that assistant of the doctor's fired and also banned from medicine. One of the first laws for them is confidentiality and even though he's spreading lies, it still breaks that law."

He swallows visibly and nods. Just as he starts to leave the room, I stop him, "And Nickolas?" At his questioning look, I tell him, "Make sure that the assistant is unable to work in any other field of work too."

As Nickolas leaves, I pull out two of my files that I've been studying for many years now. The file on King Xan and the one on King Kyle. I look down at the picture of my brother-in-law Kyle and can't help but hate the fact that he is indeed a good looking man. I toss the file away from me in a huff. I can feel the firm control that I hold on my life slipping and I don't like it.
