I wasn't even aware of the conversation going on around me; Liz's words kept playing over and over in my head. They had sex?! How stupid could they be?! And Michael attacked Max? Quite literally attacked?! My world was coming apart in front of my eyes! And I was more pissed than I've ever been in my life.
"Well, congratulations Max. You've just hurt everyone in your life." I paused, feigning a thoughtful look. "Well, except for Liz. I guess that's it, isn't it? None of us are even remotely important when it comes down to it. All that matters is your precious Queen." I mocked calmly, cold fury in every word. "I really hope she was a good lay." I spat, and then stomped towards the door.

I watched in complete shock as Michael lost his mind in front of my eyes. He wouldn't speak to anyone, he had just used his powers against his best friend, and now he was stomping away without working any of this out.
I ran after him. "Michael! Michael!!" I called, seeing him walking down the sidewalk. He didn't stop; I sprinted to catch up with him.
"What's going on, babe?" I asked, grabbing his arm to make him face me.

I look at her angrily. "Would you really have done it Maria? Would you really have dumped me just like that? Just because of someone else? I thought I meant more to you than that. Why don't you just go back inside Maria, Im sure King Max would love to have another follower."
She's still holding on to my arm.
"Let go Maria." I said coldly.

When Isabel starts to open the door, I shut it again with my powers.
"DONT YOU DARE INSULT LIZ!" I shout. "What the hell? Not important? Isabel you know you don't mean that. You know I would die for you. What the hell is up with everyone today! Have you all taken something and not told me."
I take a few calm breaths, and walked towards her.
"Isabel, please. I get why Michael's angry. But why does it matter what I do with Liz. She can't get pregnant. Why have I hurt "everyone around me"?"
"Don't even try to say you'd die for me! What was the first freaking thing out of your mouth after I said that, Max?! Don't you dare insult Liz!" I mimicked his voice, furious. "And if you don't know why you've hurt everyone, then you're really more of an idiot than I thought you were!"

"No, I'm not letting you go, Michael. You have a few issues that we need to work out." He jerked away, but I walked in front of him, blocking his escape route. "Ok, I never would have really broken up with you," I said sincerely; Michael let out skeptical noise. "I mean it, I wouldn't have. I just needed to get your attention; you were beating the crap out of your best friend! What if I hadn't made you stop? Would you have seriously injured him?"

"Isabel! What the hell! Im in love ok! And what! Why is it not okay for me to be happy! You have Alex, Michael has Maria...why can't you be happy for me! I haven't done anything wrong. So unless your shouting at me for falling in love with the love of my life, I don't see any reason for you to scream at me! And you know bloody well I would die for you Isabel. Your my sister! Of course I would!" I shouted back, getting really pissed off.

"Maria, you just don't get it do you! He's the bloody King! He can heel himself like a good soldier if he wanted to. Him and his little queen. And me? Im his lacky. His good dog that should come when is called, and not say anything when he makes mistakes. That's not who I am Maria. I can't stand in the side lines anymore. I am not going to let him rule me. He is not my King. And if you just want to be one of his followers Maria, just go inside now." I tell her.

"That's just it Max!" I cried. "How do you know you're in love?! You've known Liz for a couple of days! Or at least, really known her; you never bothered before! Or are you forgetting that last year you moped and pined for her after you told her you wouldn't be with her because she wasn't good enough for you?!" I took a deep breath, trying to calm my anger. "My point is, Max, how do you know it's not just obsessive attraction?? Or some unconscious need to fulfill your 'destiny'??"

"You know I'm not leaving you; if I had wanted Max I would be in that house right now," I said angrily. "And, Michael, don't you get it? You don't have to be anything you don't want to be! This life is different from your other one; you're not the same people. Don't be his second in command or his lackey or whatever you think you are. It's your choice, but you've got to start thinking better of yourself. Have you ever considered yourself as anything other than a second to Max?"

"Oh come on Isabel! That's so not fair! You know why I did that before and her not being good enough wasn't it. We all know I made a horrible heartwrenching decision that wrecked me for the entire summer! Isabel, how did you know you loved Alex! You just did! Well that's how I feel about Liz. I couldn't give a damn what ruddy destiny says. What I care about is my heart, and my heart loves Liz. It's as simple as. The fact is Isabel, you won't let me near Liz, but yet it's ok for you and Michael to be in love. Why is it not ok for me! Tell me! Why can't you stand to see me happy!" I shout back at her.

"I don't have a choice Maria. No one at school knows who I am. The commentator at games has trouble remembering who I am. He's often called me "Evan's friend". Even before we knew about this "destiny" thing, Max was in charge of us. I always knew he was the leader. I knew it. And I was right. Max is the King, Liz is Queen, Isabel is the Princess...and me! Im the second in command. Great title don't you think! I can't be anything else than his robin to his batman, because that's who everyone sees. No-one has ever seen anything else of me." I tell her.
"I... I... it has nothing to do with that!" I yelled truthfully. "I don't know her Max! What if... what if she hurts you? How can I help protect you from someone I don't know??" I yelled without realizing it. After the words came out, I snapped my mouth closed, turning abruptly. Why did I just tell me that??? Why, why, why???

"Michael... you always have a choice. Ok, so If Max outshines you in basketball, quit. Quit the team. Stop being Max's shadow. Because the thing is, babe, you've never tried to make your image anything other than 'Evans' Friend'. Stop following Max everywhere, and stop letting him outshine you. There are plenty of things that you have that Max Evans doesn't."
