Before leaving, Sarah paused and looked at me. “Promise me you will save me the last dance?"

I grinned at her. "You bet, kiddo. But don't forget about me when you meet some good-looking guy, okay?"

I watched as my sister left the room. I was glad to see that her spirits had lifted considerably after our talk, but I sensed that she was still finding it hard to accept.

Then again, I wasn't sure if I was quite adjusted just yet. It had only been a day since we arrived, but it felt as if a lifetime had just elapsed before our very eyes. Heck, I was supposed to be at school. And where was I? On a distant planet getting ready for a party. Yeah right, the principal would definitely buy that.

"Do you need any help with your outfits?"

I glanced at the clothes that had been laid out for us. Funny, I hadn't noticed Justin standing there earlier.

I walked over to pick a piece of clothing up and winced. "Yeah . . . I don't suppose could do something about the colour, the design, the whole package?" I snorted. "Yeah, I didn't think so."

The one I was holding was a deep shade of red, or maybe mahogany, or something like it. It looked like a dress. Okay, well, maybe a robe of some sort. It belonged on the set of a kung-fu movie, in my opinion. What was wrong with a pair of comfortable slacks and a decent shirt?

"How does one wear these things?" I asked, raising my eyebrows slightly as I looked at my father, clueless.

Alexander turns reluctantly to the pile of clothes, picking up each piece as if it were going to bite him. "Yeah . . . I don't suppose could do something about the colour, the design, the whole package?" he asks.

"Sure, we can make some adjustments for color and fit, but mostly this is what we need to wear. It's the way Antarian noblemen dress when they're at a formal party," I explain.

Alexander snorts, not happy to hear that. "How does one wear these things?" he asks.

I step forward to help. Seeing Larak in the Library in his formalwear, and Skyler earlier in less formal clothing, it all seems to come back. Actually, every minute I spend here breathing, I seem to remember more and more of these details even if memories of the actual people and events are still fuzzy or even completely non-existant.

"Start with the shirt," I suggest, picking it up. "This is the front. It fastens over the left shoulder, like that." I hand the other shirt to Justin and watch him duplicate what I just did with Xan. "The trousers are pretty much like Earth but the fastener is a bit different." After both are dressed that much, I pick up the overtunic and hand one to each boy. "The elastic cinch goes in the back, like on a tuxedo vest. And then the sleeveless robe on top. You got it."

Both boys put on their shoes and socks and I know it's time to start with the alterations. I know Justin has seen me use my powers before. He's fully involved. But it still feels a bit odd to do this.

I pass my hand over their feet, altering the shoes for a more correct fit. Justin's trousers and robe are a bit long while Alexander's need to be a little shorter. I make those adjustments and then taylor the fit a bit more to give them a clean line. Then I look the boys over.

"Not bad," I say because they actually look the part of Antarian noblemen. "What colors would you like? I'm thinking Justin might do well in a forest green. While Alexander, maybe a navy blue with silver trim."

I make the color changes and then stand them both in front of a large mirror. "What do you think?"

After Dad made the adjustments, he stood both Justin and me in front of the mirror. "What do you think?"

I cocked my head to the side, examining the image of myself in the mirror. The colour was good. Everything looked fine. But it felt weird.

"It's as good as it can possibly be," I said with a shrug, resisting the urge to do a kungfu 'haiyah!'

It was funny. We all looked hilarious. Without warning, I burst out laughing and heard even the pretty-confused-Justin joining in. It felt good to laugh. Even in the ridiculous nobleman's outfit.

The boys start laughing and I have to grin with them. I fully understand how strange this must all feel. "You must feel like you're in a Halloween costume," I say. They don't have any memories of this so I know it's weird. "Just think of it as a costume party. People will be here from other planets who will be dressed a bit differently, too. It should be very interesting."

Looking at the boys smiling is wonderful, although I have to say the sight of Alexander in that outfit still feels a bit off. Like he should have some other thing added in although I don't know what or why.

I shake off the feeling, because it doesn't make sense. Instead, I turn to my son, putting my hands on his shoulders. "Xan, I know this is your birthday, too, by the Antarian calendar, but I think you'd best not mention that. Most people think I'm dead and they don't even know you exist. They have some strange notions about twins here, too, because it's not common. We should probably stay incognito unless someone-else says something."

It feels wrong to ask him to hide his identity but I really don't yet fully understand the current political climate here. Xan has no Dannion to protect his back. I just want him to be safe...

I nodded silently at my father's words. I wasn't exactly happy about it- it made me feel like a sneak, if you ask me. But I understood that it wasn't quite the right time yet. "Yeah, sure, Dad. Whatever you say," I said, adjusting my collar. Was it just me, or did he look a little guilty about making me do this? "I'll just- blend in with the crowd."

"But- wait, you said people from other planets," I quipped, having a delayed reaction. "Do you mean us, from Earth? Or other planets like . . . what, exactly?"

Athenea, let me know if I need to alter any of this. I'll be happy to edit.

*Max*

Xan seems to accept what I've asked him, promising to blend into the crowd. "That would be fine," I tell him. I just hope he doesn't think I'm ashamed of him or anything. Nothing could be farther from the truth. He's been amazing, in spite of all the incredible things that have been thrown at him. I couldn't be more pleased.

His question about who is attending, however, is a good one. I'm not completely sure who is on the guest list, myself. "Nobody from Earth, no. Except for us," I say, waving my hand over the surface of the mirror so that five glowing points appear in the familiar 'V' formation, each with a name written beside in the Antarian script. "The Antarian system consists of five major planets. The King of Antar had traditionally been the 'high king' of all five worlds and that's why our royal seal includes all of them. These other worlds are largely autonomous, like a federation, but Antar is the leader.

"There will be people from each of these worlds to be sure. Maybe royalty, maybe just representatives. My friend Larak is here with his son. He rules his world, Taltos. There will also be people from Khivar's home world, Sados. He'd been a nobleman there, but not royalty, before he'd killed me. I don't know if there will be anyone from outside of the system. I'd guess not, but we'll find out soon enough," I say.

I see the shell-shocked expression on Justin's face. It must be weird for him to hear me talking about having been killed, to hear all this stuff about alien worlds... It reminds me that he still needs something. Glancing over, I see a small object near to where the clothes were before the boys got dressed. I raise my hand and it flies to me. "Don't worry, Justin. This is a translator. Put it in your ear and you will be able to understand Antarian. It probably won't work for anyone outside the system, but if they're here, they'll probably be speaking Antarian, anyway."

This will be very useful to him and the girls. I can only imagine that we weren't given these devices earlier because we weren't expected to stay. I'm sure they didn't expect Sarah and Liz or even Alexander to be coming with me, certainly not Justin. I wasn't expecting any of them, either.

OOC: that’s cool isabelle :D

~Xadalyn~

Skyler comes in while I’m getting dressed and quickly looks away. That’s strange. What’s with the blushing? Antarians aren’t weird about nudity, never have been, and its evident in woman’s clothing styles. But what is with Skyler’s sudden shyness?

"For.....um....you my lady." He mumbles before handing me a beautiful rose. . "Thank you, Lord Anton." I tell him with a smile.

"My pleasure your heiness." He says and the strings on the back of my dress tighten roughly. “Not so tight Rowan.” I say calmy.

“We wouldn’t want you to fall out your highness.” The handmaiden says and before I can comment Kyria comes in and takes a seat on my bed. Her long black gown fitting her is all the right places and her hair and makeup done. It is rarely that she dresses up.

"Excuse me Xada, but I wanted to let you know that everything for the evening has been secured security wise. And everything also looks beautiful." She says

“You clean up nice yourself.” I say with a smirk and I turn to the mirror to see my reflection. The two piece blue gown fits me perfectly. The fabric changes to different color blues as the light reflects off of it. My long hair is half put up with the rest of my curls flowing down my back. My handmaidens put tiny diamond- like jewels all through my hair making little sparkles.

My eye make up reminds me of the ancient Egyptians of Earth, the smoky black eyeliner making my blue eyes stand out even more than I thought possible. The final touch, five jewels in a V shape representing the royal seal on my forehead, the middle one starting in between my eyes with another tear drop shaped jewel hanging off of it. And last but not least my silver tiara. I look like the perfect little Queen, just what everybody expects to see, an illusion. I guess it’s show time. I slip into my matching heals and take the arm that Skyler offers. “Let’s just hope there’s no assignations tonight.” I try and joke but from the look on Kyria and Skyler’s face I know they didn’t like the comment.

OOC: I’m waiting on everybody else to get to the Great Hall, where the party is, before my next post.

Kyria

"You clean up nice yourself." Xada says before returning to finish herself.

I looked down, I guess I did clean up pretty nice. I turn my eyes back to Xada, "Yeah, I guess we both do..." I say admiring her and her dress.

“Let’s just hope there’s no assignations tonight.” Xada says after slipping her shoes on.

"Assignations?" I smiled, "Now there will be none of those while I am around." I said. "Anyone trys to ruin this night for you... and for myself..." I said thinking of how I was dying to see Xan's reaction to my new temporary image,"they will be as good as dead."

I was a little frustrated with myself, though I couldn't wait to see Xan I still got a little mad at how girlie it made me feel.

"Kings and noblemen- sounds like a happy bunch," I said with a grin. "So if anyone asks where I'm from, I tell them what? And when does this party start, anyway?"

Parties were not really my thing- at least, not on Earth. I hated meeting new people, mixing around. But then again, I was on a different planet. I could do anything, be anyone- change.

I wasn't exactly looking forward to the banquet, especially dressed like this, but it would be interesting. I think.

I wondered if Kyria was going to be there. No, wait, of course she was- she was my sister's bodyguard - what, Dannion, right? - and best friend. She wasn't going to miss it. It was going to be pretty awkward, after what had happened that afternoon. She probably wasn't going to speak to me anyway.

OOC -- Borrowing Justin again....

*Max*

At least Xan seems to be enjoying this a bit. "Let's stick to the truth. You can say that your father is a friend of King Larak and that we're here at Xadalyn's request." Technically, she'd only asked for me, but it's not uncommon to get the whole family especially if there's a royal banquet involved. "The banquet starts in less than an hour. Most likely it will be downstairs in the Great Hall. I'll walk you both that way in a few minutes after I've gotten changed," I promise.

I turn to leave but I'm stopped by Justin's trembling voice. "Mr. Evans?"

"Yes?" I ask. He still seems very uncertain about all this.

"I ... I don't like green. I feel like a Christmas tree."

"Okay," I say stepping towards him. "What would you prefer?"

"Um... blue, like Xan? Or black?" he suggests.

I nod, touching his robes briefly. In an instant, his clothing becomes black, with a grey undertunic and a black robe with grey trim. "Better?" I ask. He surveys his appearance in the mirror and nods. Navy and black are more traditional colors for a man's suit on Earth so it makes sense he'd be more comfortable looking like that. I guess I understand that.

"Great. One more thing. Don't mention that Khivar is dead, especially the king of Sados. That's Khivar's cousin. Apparently the palace has announced that he 'escaped.'" That had been true, actually. He had escaped. Before he came back... "I'll be back soon."
