"You?" Max asks when I speak of being a telekinetic and I simply nod. Knowing that he's probably thinking more of it and that I'd have explaining to do later.
"Ooooooookaaaaaay..." Maria lifts her hand and begins walking toward the door, "...all of this is getting just a tiny bite weird for a De Luca's liking." She turns the nob, "...I think I'm just gonna step outside for a minute..." The door was opened only a crack before she explained, "...you know, get some air" The door jerks from her hand and I know I hadn't done it, but I watch as she turns around as though searching for the culprit.
"Maria, no," Max says, and I look at him, wondering if he'd done it.
"Maria...just calm down." Michael says and I watch him go over to her. I can see that this might finally be the perfect time for him to let her see his interest and maybe get Maria to open up. "I know this is all...pretty hard to take in." He looks at me and I know he's wanting an explanation as well as Max. Even Isabel looks at me questioningly. "But I'm sure that if we just sit down for a bit then we can all head home soon."
"I'm sorry, Maria," Max tells her, yet something tells me it wasn't him. "Please. I know it's strange, but I'm still me. Just like that amulet doesn't change who any of you are." He looks over at Liz and that's when I remember how many times I'd wondered why he wouldn't let himself get close to her. "I've wanted to tell you all since we were kids but I didn't want you to think I was strange or to be afraid."
Max turns to look over at me and I simply smirk at his words, "I had no idea there were so many others who were the same.."
Suddenly, the girl at Mena's side passes out and from the expression on Cameron's face, I can't help but wonder if she'd done something.
"Adam, can you carry Serena up to the room next to mine?" Mena asks and the boy does so.
"Maria, no one expects this to be easy." Cameron says.
"It's time, Cam." Mena says and I watch Cameron nod.
"Some of you are closed off, I can't touch upon your minds, enter them to show you what needs to be shown. Please, try and open your minds. Maria, please sit down and have some more tea. We won't ask you all to stay here much longer. Let me show you what you need to see then you can go and discuss things amongst yourselves." She pauses a moment and looks toward Mena before looking at the rest of us.
"When you leave here, what we have said will be all we'll say until your decision is made. Don't feel that you have to return and train, Adam and I will do what we must, with or without your aid. No matter your decision, always wear your amulets."
I glance over at Teresa and wonder how she feels about this and how I should feel now that I know that she isn't simply human. I'd stayed away, withdrawn and distant in order to keep her from learning. Not to mention, I had other reasons about why I didn't want anyone close. I still had a job to do.
"Yes, and I'll get some for your friends to have as well. Though they are not chosen of Selene, I have extra's." Mena adds and I find that to be very strange. Of course, she doesn't know that we can protect ourselves.
"What do you mean by 'closed off'?" Max questions, just as I expected him too.
"Are you trying to do something to their heads?" He questions and I want to laugh.
"Can I use your bathroom?" Maria asks and Mena nods, pointing the way. Shortly after, I watch as my brother get's up to follow her and smile.
"Everyone, whether Son, Daughter or normal person has the ability to create a mental shielding, most of the time I can get through that shielding in order to communicate on a different level. I can share images, memories and such by creating a link of sorts with the other person's mind. Though, I also risk myself when creating that link because I can be pulled into a chasm of confusion if the Atrox attempts to attack at the same time. You are one of those that is closed off, I can't share those things with you." Cameron replies and before she says anything else, I have a feeling I know who else is. I remain silent, not about to say a damned word at the moment.
"I can't explain the last bit that I need to show everyone because it's not completely me sharing. The link will be created by myself with all of you, but the link between Mena and I will be volatile since she will be sending these images and such to my mind and I will basically be a transmitter to all of you." Cameron replies.
"Despite the fact that you helped us, Max... it doesn't make us feel certain that it isn't some sort of trap to make us feel safe and then have it turn out that you are another form of a Follower of the Atrox." She looks at Mena.
"What she means, Max.. is that certain people that follow the Atrox can keep her from linking with their minds which makes it hard for her to trust those she can't link with. She is also asking everyone for permission to make that connection with all of you so that we can save some time. I'm growing exhausted." Mena replies and I looked at her. Was it my imagination or had her hair grown a couple of inches since we arrived? And was that hints of gray in her temple?
"I'm not," Max replies, "We're not with Attrox, but I don't know how to do what you're asking. How do I 'open' my mind? What happens if I can't?"
Max pauses, falling into his thoughts, "And if we can, what then? Would you be looking at our minds, too? Would you see things? Private things?"
"Max, I have no intention of looking into your minds. My only goal here is to make things easier on Mena. That means connecting minds and allowing images to show, that's it. As long as we have a reason to trust you, I would ask before delving further into a person. As to how you can open your minds, I'm not sure how to explain it. Maybe, maybe I can show you and give you an idea..." Cameron begins and I watch her with interest.
"I've never done this with someone that's closed off, but Adam and I have done this at times when strengthening our gifts." She get's up and moves in front of Max, kneeling before him and holding out her hands.
"Take my hand and look into my eyes, Max. I'll try showing you what's in my mind slowly, it might allow you to open." I glance over at Isabel to see her stiffen and watch as Alex takes her hand. Despite the gravity of the situation, I smile. It looked as though some of what was happening here was going to bring people together.
"I know you said you won't be looking, but if you do see something ... something you don't understand. Just give me a chance to explain, okay?"
Cameron simply nodded before she began, "I promise, Max. I won't jump to conclusions if I do, but I swear I'm not going to delve."
I watch her expressions, her actions carefully, fully prepared to take her down if she seems as though she is going to harm Max. He may not have known about me, been open with me, but I sure as hell wasn't about to let him be hurt.
"O Mater Luna, guide me." The girl says and I can't see anything happening. I simply feel helpless, unable to understand what is being done. "Relax, I'll start slowly and with luck it'll work. Just try and open to me."
"It -- wow. It worked," Max says and I sigh silently, relieved that nothing had happened to harm Max.
"Did you ... see what you needed to? You know I'm not an enemy?" Max questions and I wait to see what the girl says.
"Yes, thank you for trusting me, Max. In showing your trust, opening yourself, you have more then proved that you are not with the Atrox, there is no darkness or negative energy around you that I can feel from the light bond. I swear to you, I will never look without permission unless I fear the Atrox is doing you harm." She promises and then moves her hand away.
"Can I assure you that the rest of my friends are also trustworthy or do you need to do this with everyone?" Max questions and I contemplate what it could be that he'd seen. I'm really interested in finding out so, I make a note to ask Max later.
"I'll take your word on it, Max. Something tells me that I can trust you and not just because you opened to me enough for me to show you these things. I still need people to open up unless you want to relay things to them for us later." She begins, "Mena, are you well?" I turn to see that Mena does indeed look like she is ill.
"I'm exhausted, but I'll be fine. They need to know..." Mena replies and looks around. "Someone may want to gather the other two."
"I think it would be best to let them be for now." I comment, my eyes moving to peruse everyone. "I'm sure someone can fill them both in on what they miss." I say. I feel that my brother needs the time with Maria as much as Maria needs time with him. "I'll relay things to them if necessary."
I glance over at Max and move toward him, leaning between him and Isabel enough to whisper so that only they can hear, "I'll have to teach you how to open in a controlled manner later." Then with a smile to both of them, I step back and look at Cameron and Mena, "So, why don't we go ahead and get this party started.
With a quick thought I move over to where Tree is and place a hand on her shoulder, "I still trust you, even if you are different. Hope you feel the same." I tell her quietly.
"You?" Max asks when I speak of being a telekinetic and I simply nod. Knowing that he's probably thinking more of it and that I'd have explaining to do later.
"Ooooooookaaaaaay..." Maria lifts her hand and begins walking toward the door, "...all of this is getting just a tiny bite weird for a De Luca's liking."
