I linked my arm through his as we walked back towards the house.

I smile as I lead her back in the house. When we entre I quickly move two chairs close to the fire and pull out one of them for Isabel to sit on.
"Is that ok? Can I get you anything?" I ask. "Would you like a drink or something?"

"Sure" I tell her smiling. I go and get two glasses of water. I keep looking at Maria. I hope Michael was being good to her. She deserved it. She deserved a guy who would treat her well. At one point I had thought I would be that guy. But somehow we had always just stayed friends. I think it was better this way.

I walk back over to Isabel and hand her the water. "One water" I say smiling. I sit down with her.

Ouch. I didn't want to admit it, but when he had said he was in love with Tess, it felt like a knife to my heart. Which really confused me; why on earth did I care?! He was an egotistical jerk with one thing on his mind.

"Love?" I scoffed without looking at him. "Try lust. Love at first sight doesn't exist, especially not for someone like you," I replied, and then, feeling slightly protective of my cousin, "and don't you dare go near her! She's innocent and naive, and it better stay that way! I don’t want you trying seduce her only to leave the very next day." I warned him.

He looked slightly shocked. “What, surprised? You shouldn’t be; father and mother drilled into my head for years how men such yourself are, and how I should beware of them. So, while I am innocent, I am hardly naïve.” I said. “ In short, Count Maxwell, don’t waste your time, or your flattery.”

Max:

I ran after her... "How do you know dosen't exist? If it's never happened to you before--why would you make such a big deal of not proving it...huh? Tell me... maybe I don't love her--but someone else..." I drifted off and I had her locked into a corner and blocking her was of escaping. "Would that make some think they believed in love at first sight?" I was inched away from her, I could smell the lavender purfume off of her skin, and her breath near my cheek. I brushed my fingertips along her arm and touched her cheek. " think that's enough bickering for tonight...don't you think... we can just carry this on tomorrow...I'll see you then." I winked at her and walked off. I turned back around to her a said, "Oh--if your wondering what my answers to the questions would be, here it goes. Red, night, moon, fiesty women, Roses, and I am a fan of every type of music including Classical peferiably Mozhart and his works. I love shakespear, and mythology." I smiled. "Maybe we could have a coral someother time Lady Elizabeth.." I bowed and contined my way to find Kyle to let him know I was leaving.

I held my hand against my speeding heart, willing my erratic breath to even out. Why did a man like Max do this to me? Because it was clear that he was nothing but scum. And what did he mean about being in love with someone else? Could it be.... ? No, I would not even let myself think it. A man like that didn't fall in love; he was putting on an act.

"I'm not going to fall for it, Max," I whispered to myself, making a vow. I would never allow myself to fall in love with Count Maxwell Evans.

I took the glass of water gratefully form Alex and then noticed that Max was leaving...
"Max is leaving I think." I stood up to go to Liz who seemed kind of flushed for some reason.
I turned around to face Alex before going to Liz..."Alex thank you for a wonderful evening.I enjoyed spending time with you.I'll see you tomorrow.Goodnight!"

I courtisied and went to talk to Liz..."Lizzie are you okay?You seem a little unsettled." I asked concernedly

Alex followed me outside the palace doors--I turned back to him, "You looked pretty cozy in there..how did things go with Isabel?" I asked him as I smile crept onto my face.
