I decided to break the silence and said "This evening turned out better than I had anticipated."

Alex looked at me enquiringly so I continued,"I am not very happy about my debutant status.It makes me feel like I am some piece of art up for auction.I thought this evening would be like the other evening that are sure to follow when Aunt Amy starts hosting her balls,all the eligible men looking out for the right wife to take home."

I waited to se if he'd would laugh at that description of myself but he kept quite..."Alex can I ask you a personal question?"

"Sure. Ask away" I said. I felt bad that Isabel felt that way. But that was not how I saw her. I saw her as some sort of beautiful statue that everyone admires from afar and up close.

Isabel

I took a deep breath and asked hesitantly,"Have you ever been in love?"

I sigh. "There was one point when I thought I might be. But it turned out we were just meant to be good friends. What about you?" I ask.

Isabel

"I was,about two years ago." I said sadly..."No one other than my family knows so please don't tell anyone.Even Maria and Liz aren't aware of it."

I paused unsure whether or not to carry on...

"I'm sorry." I say softly. "But Isabel if you don't feel comfortable talking about it you don't have to tell me. It's not a problem." I tell her.

For a few minutes I pondered whether or not to tell him but I felt that he was trustworthy...

"It was was while I was in Switzerland at a Finishing School,I met someone who was four years older than me and I thought it was love...I mean I was very happy and he said he would marry me" I trailed off here to compose myself

"His father died and he married according to his mother's wishes in order to take over the dukedom.I don't blame him though.Evere since then I've been wary of most men." I said smiling

(ooc: yeah! sorry for not replying sooner...i was at the doctors, i've just been cleared for my curve in my spine for the next three years )

"I'm sorry Isabel. If it makes you feel better, at least he loved you back. To this day I don't know if I was in true love or even just a bit in love, but she will always hold a place in my heart. But I will never hold one in hers. We were just better off as friends." I said sadly.

"Well, any guy who let you go was an idiot. I bet he's kicking himself." I said with a smile.

Isabel

I looked at him and said in a soft voice,"Thank you Alex,you are very kind."

Then I laughed...Alex looked at me,surprised..."Don't worry I haven't gone mad,it's just weird how you're the first person I've told this too other than my family and I've only known you for a few hours." I explained
