Chapter 20
“This place is amazing,” Liz said, a wide smile gracing her features as she sat down at the table for two that Brendan had asked for. The table overlooked the Brooklyn bridge just as the sun was starting to go down.
“That’s why I chose it.” Brendan said, a smile on his own face.
“Here you go,” The waiter said, placing a bottle of wine on the table. “Our finest wine.” He placed two wine glasses on the table.
“Thank you,” Liz said politely as the waiter smiled and walked off.
“So, apart from your dad flying in town today,” Liz said as Brendan poured her a glass of wine. “How was your day?”
“I’ve had better day’s.” Brendan replied. “I’m just happy to be here with you tonight.”
“Well, so am I.” Liz answered.
“So, what about you?” Brendan asked, taking a small sip of his wine. “Did you have fun with that Kyle guy?”
“We talked.” Liz answered. “I hadn’t seen him in year’s,”
“And you two went to High school together?” He asked.
“Yeah,” Liz said, “We dated Freshman year although it didn’t last very long.”
“You know,” Brendan said. “I realized today, seeing you with Kyle, that I don’t know much about you’re past. I mean, I know the basics and all, I know that you left Roswell when you we’re seventeen, but other than that, I just don’t know that much.”
“I know,” Liz answered with a small sighed. “It’s just that, my past is something I don’t really like to talk about very much, even Serena and Rachel don’t know much about it.”
“Something bad must of happened if you don’t like to talk about it then,” Brendan spoke softly. “Look, I know this is gonna sound real cheesy, but, you know that I love you right? And you know that you can tell me anything.”
“I know that.” Liz said guiltily. God, this guy was almost perfect! He deserved to know about her, he deserved to know about her past. Okay, so maybe not about the alien part, but about her relationship with Max and about Tess coming to town and about Alex dying.
“I...” Liz started, unsure of where to start. There was just so much to say. “I fell in love with this guy,” She said, taking a deep breath. “I was sixteen year’s old, it was right about the time where Kyle and I broke up. His name was Max. Max Evans. And I loved him and I know that he loved me too.” She paused slightly before continuing. “Anyway’s, this girl came to town. He name was Tess, and, she was someone...from Max’s past.”
“So he left you for her?” Brendan asked.
“No,” Liz said, “Not really. It’s just that thing’s got really complicated between us and I sort of pushed him away. He landed up sleeping with her and getting her pregnant.”
“I’m so sorry.” Brendan said sincerely. “It must of hurt when you found out.”
Liz let out a small dry laugh. “Actually, I only found out about it yesterday.”
“What?” Brendan asked, suddenly confused.
“Yeah, Max’s father is a Lawyer and he’s attending the same meeting that you are.” Liz explained. “The man from this morning, Philip Evans.”
“Wait, what?” Brendan said. “That’s Max’s father? And Max Evans is here in New York City?”
“Yup,” Liz answered sadly. “Philip Evans brought the entire family. Max, his sister Isabel, and Max’s seven year old son, Zan.”
“The little boy from this morning?” Brendan asked, realization quickly dawning on him.
“Yeah, that’s him.” Liz said.
“God, Liz, why didn’t you say anything before?” Brendan asked.
“I...I wasn’t sure how to tell you, Brendan.” Liz said. “I’m sorry, I know I should of told you all of this a really long time ago. I just couldn’t bring myself to do it, I’m sorry.”
Brendan let out a small sighed. “No, it’s okay. I understand that you didn’t want to talk about you’re past. Only what I don’t understand is why you left Roswell, you just said that you didn’t know that Max had slept with that girl, Tess.”
“That’s true.” Liz said, “See, I was also dealing with the loss of one of my best friend back then,” Liz said. “His name was Alex and he died in a car crash. Or so that’s what everybody thought. See, when he died I was convinced that he had been...killed. But nobody believe me. Sooner or later my friends started turning away from me because they just thought I ad turned into some sort of crazy person or something.”
“So that’s why you left,” Brendan said.
“Well, yes.” Liz said. “Kind of. The night I left Roswell, Max and I got into this huge fight and that’s when I realized that I had had enough of all that crap. So I left Roswell and landed up in San Francisco.”
“And what about you’re friend, Alex?” Brendan asked. “Was he or was he not killed in car crash after all?”
“He wasn’t.” Liz answered. “I...I talked to Max today. And he told me what really happened to Alex.”
“You talked to Max?” Brendan said, a quick look of jealousy overcoming his face. “Okay, not the point I get it. So what did he tell you about Alex.”
“A short while after I left Roswell, Max and the other’s found out that Tess had been the one who killed him.” Liz said, tear’s forming in her eye’s but she quickly blinked them away.
“Oh, my God, Liz.” Brendan said, “This is big. This is really big. You should of told me about all of this.”
“I know, I know.” Liz said. “I’m so sorry that I didn’t tell you before. I don’t know why I didn’t, I guess I was just...scared of what you we’re going to think of me.”
“Liz,” Brendan said, looking Liz in the eye.”I love you, I don’t care what happened in your past it’s not going to make me love you any less.”
“You’re amazing, you know that?” Liz asked, smiling at him as he reached out to take her hand from across the table.

“I’ll have the Double Cheeseburger with extra bacon, mayo and I want the fries with that too.” Michael said, handing over the menu to the waitress that was busy jotting down everything Michael had just ordered on her notebook.
“Alright,” The waitress said, taking the menu for Michael. “I’ll be back with your order’s in a short while.”
“Michael you’re a pig.” Isabel said, taking a sip of her water.
“I’m hungry” Michael said, “All I had to eat today was those stupid peanuts on the plane.”
“Daddy, you didn’t take much to eat.” Zan said, looking up at his father who sat beside him at the table. “Aren’t you hungry?”
“Um, you’re right, daddy’s not really hungry tonight.” Max answered his son.
“Hey, you know what?” Kyle said, trying to lighten the mood. “We should go see a movie. Movies usually make me feel better and they make me forget about all the stuff that’s going on.”
“I’m up for that.” Michael said.
“I’m tired.” Maria answered. “I just want to go to bed.”
“Same here,” Max said, “But, thanks for offering.”
“I wanna go see a movie.” Zan pouted as he looked at his dad.
“I wouldn’t ming a movie either.” Isabel said. “So, why don’t Michael, Isabel, Zan, and I go see a movie and you two can head back to the hotel to get some sleep.”
“Nah, if Maria’s not going, then I’ll just head back to the hotel with her.” Michael said, glancing at Maria who sat by his side.
“Okkay, then.” Kyle said. “Then it’ll be just me, Zan, and Isabel. You’re still on for the movie, right Iz?” He asked, turning to Isabel.
Isabel shrugged, “Sure, I’m still up for a movie.”
“Good,” Kyle said.
“I don’t want to go to the movies without daddy,” Zan said slowly, taking a look at his dad. “I wanna with daddy.”
“Oh, no, Zan,” Max said, forcing a smile on his face. “You go with Aunt Isabel and Uncle Kyle, okay? You go and have fun, daddy’s gonna go back to hotel.”
“Okay, then.” Zan said. “We can go see the movie, Kyle.”
Kyle smiled. “Alright, movie it is.”

“Where are you taking me?” Liz asked, laughing as Brendan pulled her by the arm. Brendan led the way across the street towards the entrance of the Empire State Building.
“Just follow me,” Brendan said as he continued towards the entrance of the building.
“Brendan, what are we doing?” Liz asked, “The place is closed!”
“Not to me it isn’t.” Brendan answered with a smile. As they approached the building, Liz could see a man waiting for them at the front.
“Mr. Harris,” The man said as he opened the door for them.
“Oh my, God.” Liz said, “I can’t believe we’re doing this!”
“Take it easy,” Brendan said, laughing at the look on Liz’s face. “This isn’t illegal, I have the permission to do this.”
Once they we’re inside the building, Brendan led her towards the elevator. Once they we’re inside Brendan pressed the button that would take them all the way to the top and then closed the elevator door’s behind them.
“You know, you are looking pretty damn fine tonight in that red dress,” Brendan said as he wrapped both his arm’s around her waist.
“Why, thank you, Mr. Harris.” Liz said, turning her body so that she was facing him. She stood on her tip-toes and pressed her lips to his.
The door’s to the elevator opened several minutes later and Brendan broke the kiss. “Here we are.” He said, taking Liz’s hand in his own and taking her outside.
“Oh my, God.” Liz said as she took a look around. The sun had finally set just about an hour ago and the stars had slowly begun to appear in the night sky. They’re we’re no words to describe what she was seeing, it was just so...beautiful.
“This is amazing,” Liz said, choked up. She stepped towards the railing and looked down. New York City was simply gorgeous at night, the entire town was lit up with all those city lights. Liz could see the stature of liberty from afar from where she stood.
“This is beautiful,” Liz said, looking around. “I can’t believe you would do this for me, Brendan."
“Well you are so worth it,” Brendan smiled, “I just want you to know how much I love you and how much you mean the world to me. I don’t know what I’d be without you, Liz Parker. One thing’s for sure, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. You’re the one for me, Liz, and I want to be you for the rest of my life. I want to go to bed by your side everynight and I want to wake up by your side every morning.”
Liz watched as Brendan smiled at her and then slowly began to kneel down in front of her. Liz’s eye’s widened in shock as he reached inside his pocket and took out a small box. With one small gesture he opened the small black box revealing a beautiful ring.
“Elizabeth Parker," He said, "Will you marry me?”
