Part 22

Four years later

Max stands from his seat as the dean calls her name. He never thought he could be as proud of someone as he is right in that very second.

“Elizabeth Parker.”

He claps loudly and smiles at the honours strip she wears over her graduation gown.

Next to Max, Liz’s parents are snapping pictures as she takes her certificate, shakes the Deans hand, before turning to smile for the professional photographer. After he snaps her picture she gives her friends and family a short wave and blows a kiss to Max, which he reaches in the air to catch and place against his heart.

On the other side of Max, Maria sits with Michael.

“Yeah Lizzie,” they cheer and Max finds his smile growing if it’s even possible.

The group had all come a long way in four years, sometimes Max wondered if they would ever make it, but here they were.

Michael and Maria were still together and going strong. Sometimes Max wondered how they managed to make their relationship work though. They fought like cats and dogs, but during the times they weren’t fighting, it was clear they loved each other.

Max knew that he would miss both of them when they left for LA that night. They were flying out after Liz’s graduation dinner so that Maria could record her first demo. It had been a hard road for Maria but finally it seemed that she was on the brink of reaching her dream, and the best part was that Michael was supporting her 100% and was leaving his life in New York to go with her.

The other thing that had changed in the past four years was Maria and Liz’s friendship. At one time Max had truly thought it was impossible for the two of them to ever become friends but they proved him wrong. Max wasn’t exactly sure how it happened, but Liz said it was all because of him. Now the two girls were the best of friends, which made life a lot easier for both Max and Michael. It had also allowed Max to form a friendship with Michael. It certainly hadn’t been easy getting through the stonewall, but Max had earned Michael’s respect through the way he treated Liz and now Max could quite confidently call Michael one of his best friends.

The girls had also developed a strong relationship with Isabel too, and together with Ava the four of them had gotten into a fair bit of mischief. But none of that was important to Max. He was just happy that the three most important women in his life all got along.

Max felt tears fill his eyes as he watched the girl who owned his heart descend from the stairs and rejoin her graduating class. If someone has asked him four years ago if he would be there, with her family, watching her graduate he knew there was no way he would have been able to tell them with certainty he would.

Things had been hard between them the months following the truth about his movie career. Sometimes he still wondered how they had gotten through it. He knew that it was only the fact that they truly loved each other and wanted it to work that had gotten them both through the darkest times.

Max clapped and smiled when Ava appeared on stage to collect her diploma then. Although he had never gotten close to Ava she had been a good friend to Liz for the past four years, and also a great roommate until Liz had decided to move in with him.

It had taken two years for them to take their relationship to the next level. Max had wanted to ask her to move in with him six months after they had gotten back together. It was then that they finally made love again. But Max knew that Liz wasn’t ready then so he had waited for her to be.

It had definitely been worth the wait. They had lived together for the past two years in Max’s apartment. Max had been working for the firm he had interned with during his final year of college, and was now on the road to becoming a junior partner. Life was perfect as far as he was concerned. In fact he could only think of one thing that could possibly make it better.

Liz Parker becoming his wife.

He smiled as he thought about it and patted his jacket when the ring he had purchased was safely tucked away. He had already asked her father that morning, and thankfully Jeff Parker had smiled at him and welcomed him to the family. It had surprised Max but Jeff Parker had gotten better about his daughter over the years.

Soon enough the ceremony was over and Max joined everyone else in rushing to find Liz to offer congratulations.

The second Liz saw him she rushed towards him and wrapped her arms around his neck.

“I’m so proud of you,” he told her.

“Thank you,” she replied pulling back for a kiss.

“I love you,” he added.

“I love you too,” Liz beamed.

“We’re so proud of you Liz.” Jeff Parker hugged her next.

“Congrats little sis,” Michael grinned.

Liz wasn’t quite sure what she was going to do now that she was finally finished with college. She hoped that she was going to find the perfect job close to Max though, leaving him definitely wasn’t an option as far as she was concerned.

But for the next month job hunting was going to have to wait. She and Max had already planned a trip backpacking around Europe and she couldn’t wait.

Max felt the breath leave his body as Liz emerged from the bathroom dressed for her graduation dinner.

“Wow.” he whispered.

Liz smiled and did a small twirl for him. The skirt of her red dress swished slightly showing a bit more of her trim, tanned legs.

“You like?” she asked.

The dress was accompanied by a pair of gorgeous red pumps and Max felt himself instantly grow hard. They were fuck me shoes if he had ever seen some and from the twinkle in Liz’s eye he knew that she was more than aware of what she was doing when she had picked them.

“I more than like,” he whispered.

“Are you sure? It feels like something is missing,” she frowned eyeing herself in the mirror.

Max gulped. He knew exactly what was missing but did he want to ruin the surprise that he planned for later?

The moment seemed perfect and he found himself reaching into his jacket pocket and pulling out the black velvet box.

He walked up behind Liz and his eyes met hers in the mirror.

“I think you’re right,” he said.

“Should I wear a different necklace?” she asked.

Max shook his head. “No.”

“Then what’s missing?” she asked slightly confused.

Max popped open the black box then and held it up for her to see.

Liz gasped and whirled around until she was facing him. “Is that?”

Slowly Max lowered himself down onto one knee.

“Oh God,” Liz gasped again.

“I love you Elizabeth Parker, with my whole heart,” Max whispered. “Being with you these past four years has been a dream come true for me, you’ve made me so happy.”

“Oh Max,” she cried tears coming to her eyes.

“I knew the day I met you in Roswell, wearing your waitress outfit, that you were the girl for me Liz. You still are. I want forever and always with you.”

Max pulled the ring out of the box then and held it up for Liz to see.

“We’ve been through so much to get here, but it’s all been worth it to me, every single second of it.”

Liz nodded.

“So I’m asking you Liz Parker, love of my life, will you give me forever and always? Will you marry me?” he asked her.

Tears filled both of their eyes as they waited for Liz to answer.

“Yeah Max,” she nodded. “I’d love nothing more than to be your wife,” she whispered.

Max grinned as he slipped the beautiful Tiffanies engagement ring onto her finger. It was a perfect fit.

“I love it,” she whispered. “I love you,” she added.

Rising to his feet Max engulfed her in his arms as their mouths came together in the sweetest of kisses.

When they finally pulled back Max smiled at the tears that fell down Liz’s face.

“Don’t cry baby,” he said.

“They’re happy tears. I’m so happy,” she whispered.

“Me too,” Max said. “I hope this was ok, I had it all planned out differently than this but when I saw you come out tonight…”

Liz giggled. “The girls said this dress would blow you away.”

“We’ll they’re right. But I knew exactly what was missing the second you said it. It was this ring that tells the whole world that you’re mine Liz Parker,” he smiled.

“It’s all I’ve ever wanted.” Liz told him.

When Liz and Max made the announcement to their families that night they were all over the moon for them.

Both mothers were excited and quickly, along with Isabel, went into planning mode for the wedding.

“I don’t want to wait too long,” Liz told Max that night as they lay in bed after hours of love making. Max was eternally grateful that Liz’s parents had decided to spend their last night in New York in a hotel.

Max looked at Liz confused.

“To get married,” she told him.

Max grinned, “Good because I want you to become my wife as quickly as possible.”

“What do you think about getting married at the end of summer?” Liz suggested. “Something small and intimate.”

Max kissed her lovingly. “It sounds perfect to me,” he agreed.

Later that night when Liz was fast asleep Max had time to think about the journey he had taken in his life to get to where he was now. He would never forget the person he was or the experiences that had made him the man he was today. He knew that he couldn’t erase his past, or the two movies that would forever sit on shelves. There was always the possibility that they would come back to haunt him one day but he couldn’t worry about that now.

Max remembered the words his one time friend and co-star Jessica had said to him after they had completed his first movie. The words had been meant to comfort him, or excite him but Max knew that day, after hearing those words, that he would be happy if he never heard them again.

“Smile, you’re a star.”

Max looked down at the beautiful angel in his arms then and he grinned. He was a star, he was the star of the Max Evans and soon to be Liz Evans show and more importantly, he was happy.
