"When is this going to end?" Eileen said softly, looking up at me. I see the pain in her eyes. She loves her son, we both love him but I understand what she is meaning. James and I haven't gotten along too well since about the time he started puberty. And I know she hates how he and I seem to always be at odds.
I sigh and brush my hand over her hair. "I'll go talk to him." I step away from her and head out to the living room. He is sitting there on the couch, his feet propped on the table. Taking a chance, hoping he's not too moody today, I take the seat next to him. Leaning back, we sit in silence for several minutes. It's a good sign that he hasn't gotten up and left yet.
"Going to that big party I heard?" I ask in a quiet and calm voice. I tell myself several times to take it slow. The last thing I need, is for James to storm out of here pissed before going off to a party I'm almost positive there will be alcohol at. I don't want to provoke him. I'm hoping to show him that we can sit and have a normal conversation like most father and sons do.

“Are you sure about the leather pants?” Marie asks.
I glance behind me to find her nervously looking into the mirror. Wearing a pair of black leather pants and a silk green strapless top that clings in all the right places. Marie looks completely different from her normal sports playing bookworm self. Her hair has been pulled back into a messy bun with a few strands framing her face and her makeup is simple yet elegant. She looks amazing.
“I am always sure. Now trust me when I say you look amazing ‘cause I’m not going to say again!” I state with a roll of my eyes before turning back to rummage through my wardrobe. I may have sorted Marie and Amy out but I am still completely clueless as to what I am going to wear. Nothing seems to be right and I need to look perfect tonight.
“Okay.” Marie says with a soft sigh.
There is a knock at my bedroom door followed by Amy’s voice. “Lily?”
“Yeah?” I call back, not moving away from my wardrobe. Seriously, I have nothing to wear and time is starting to run out. James is going to be here soon and I haven’t even done my hair or started my makeup. The only things I’ve managed to do are shower and get Amy and Marie ready. I need more time for me though.
“Can I come in?”
“Sure, whatever.” I reply absentmindedly glancing at the door as my sister walks into the room.
My jaw drops when I see Amy. Oh my God. Sandra Dee has been transformed into me. I don’t think that we’ve looked this alike since we were six and mom insisted that we wear matching outfits.
“If I didn’t know better, I would think that you were Lil!” Marie states, causing Amy to frown. Obviously, the thought of looking anymore like me then she normal does distresses her. I don’t know where she got the idea but for some reason, Amy thinks that I am the Slutty MacSlutty of Roswell High.
“That might be the best compliment you’ll ever get.” I state with a grin.
Amy scoffs slightly as she blatantly checks herself out in the mirror. She is wearing my raspberry colored Crinkled Camisole that I got from DKNY and a pair of blue hip hugging jeans that make her legs appear longer then normal and show off her tiny waist. I’m glad to see that her hair is down and flowing down her shoulders in soft curls. I guess sometimes she does listen to me.
“Oh my God, I don’t think that I can breathe. Lily’s ego is taking too much room!” Marie snorts.
“Hahaha, bite me Valenti!” I say before turning back to my mission. God, I must have something that is at least half way to perfect.
“I swear this top is actually lingerie!” Amy mutters, still studying her reflection.
“Actually its inspired by lingerie.” I murmur before adding quickly before she can start to whine. “And don’t start making a fuss because it doesn’t show off anything it shouldn’t and it doesn’t look slutty. It looks hot! Oliver is going to drool himself a river when he sees you.”
“Or have a heart attack.” Marie adds and Amy blushes prettily.
“Oh my God, its perfect!” I declare randomly as I catch sight of my favorite skirt and a perfect top to go with it right at the back of my wardrobe. I reach for it excitedly and breathe a sigh of relief. Perfect outfit, check. “What do you guys think?” I ask, showing them the items in my hands.
“That will look nice.”
“Nice?” I scoff and roll my eyes in disgust. Seriously, Amy and Marie are so useless when it comes to fashion. I should have begged Christina to get ready here with me. At least she would have come up with something slightly better then the word nice.
Sitting in front of my vanity table, I quickly set to work on my hair and makeup. Applying some mascara, I hum happily to myself. Tonight is going to be a blast, I know it. It is going to be the party of the year. Something big is going to happen, something that is going to be remember for a life time, I can feel it in my bones.
Applying a small amount of lip-gloss, I study my reflection carefully. What should I do with my hair? Amy’s is curly, Marie’s is up, which means mine should be straight. Searching through my drawers, I quickly find my hair straighteners and set about straightening my hair.
Ten minutes later, my hair and makeup are complete and all that is left to be done is to put on my outfit. Grabbing my clothes, I head towards the bathroom that I share with Amy that adjoins both of our rooms. Shedding my current outfit, I change quickly and spray a little fragrance onto my pulse points.
The short denim skirt that I’m wearing could be considered vintage since it use to belong to my Aunt Isabel in her teens. It is a simple and somewhat plain design but it shows off my legs to perfection while remaining tasteful. The top that I’ve chosen to go with it is really the icing on the cake. The black satin feels cool and smooth against my skin and hugs my curves like a second skin. The plunging neckline adds some much needed sex appeal to the whole outfit making it sexy not trashy.
“How do I look?” I ask Amy and Marie once I am done.

“How do I look?”
I turn to face the "as per usual stunning" Lily. God she looks great.
"Perfect" I tell her as I turn back to the mirror to asjust mu top again... feel so self conscious...I swear it's lingerie..infact I swear if Mom or Dad saw me now they would have a heartache, demand to know how many drugs I had taken and lock me in my room until I had become sane again.
I wonder what time Oliver will be here...I expect he'll take one look at me and run head long through the window or something. "Drool like a river" Lily had said...what utter rubbish...I look more than a slut...what do you call someone who looks worse than a slut? Well thats me to a tee...maybe they should just call it an "Amy" and be done with it.
After tonight I will never be seen in public again. I will be totally locked up in my room...perhaps Ill become a nun...
I swear it won't be Oliver having a heart attack...its me....now! I mean...I look utterly ridiculous! This outfit is amazing...on Lily! Who bought it! I am not Lily! I'm Amy! A...m....y!
I pull in a deep shuddering breath. "Well...Im going to wait downstairs for Oliver...and hey...if you see a girl with a paper bag over her head...thats me hiding. If you see a girl with a plastic bag over my head...don't remove it as Im trying to end it all" I tell them. "See you" I say and quickly walk down stairs.
I watch from the window...Im going to screw this up...I can tell....
Oh please let this go ok...

“And they say that I am the drama queen of the family.” I murmur as Amy leaves the room. She has totally stolen my crown today with all her whining and bitching. She needs an ass kicking. Bloody Sandra Dee wanna be.
“She must be freaking out about Oliver,” Marie says, adjusting a strand of hair in the mirror. She seems to have lost her nervousness about tonight. Good, that means that she can have fun instead of spending the whole night worrying like I don’t know say Amy.
“I don’t know why. Everything will be okay if she doesn’t freak out and Oliver will be his normal charming Jim Stark self.” I state. Its an odd combination, Oliver and Amy but it could work out if it was given the chance and considering that sweet innocent and very brief kiss the pair shared I think that Oliver might be making some real moves tonight. But then again, you never know with Jim Stark.

“Not everyone has your confidence.” I reply, staring at my reflection for the hundredth time. The image in the mirror is almost unrecognizable. Lily has managed to transform me completely. Tonight I can pretend to be someone else, tonight I can have the confidence that I normally only have on the soccer field or is class. Tonight I am going to have fun and enjoy myself. I’ll think about the consequences tomorrow. After all tomorrow is another day.
“I know.” Lily sighs. “I just don’t understand why Amy feels like she is inferior to Oliver. Its crazy.”
Thinking about my own feelings for Erik Whitman, I can sympathize with Amy’s feelings but unlike Amy, I don’t think I’ll ever get Erik’s attention especially with girls like Christina and Lily in the world. I am so mousy compared to girls like them and guys tend to look over me and not see me at all. Sure, I am great as a friend because I am such a good sport but I am not dating material.
“Or not so crazy. You’ve gotta be a little more understanding, Lil. Not everyone has guys chasing them around.” I say with a shrug.
“Ugh, it sounds like too much hard work but whatever. Maybe I should have a word with my old friend Jim and see where his head is at. That way I could be Amy’s mind at rest once and for all.” Lily says, tossing her hair behind her shoulder.
“I don’t know if that’s such a great….”
“Blah, blah, blah. My mind is made up. I’ll have a quick word with Oliver before him and Amy leave for the party.” Lily states, her mind clearly made up. “I’m thirsty. Let’s go and wait downstairs in the kitchen.”
I shake my head as I follow Lily downstairs, sensing that might be trouble ahead before the party even gets started. It shouldn’t be surprising since trouble seems to follow Lily everywhere she goes.
“What time is James picking us up?” I ask, changing the subject.
Lily’s body language changes at the mention of my brother. “8ish.”
“Cool.” I reply, studying Lily carefully. There is something going on with her, something different that I didn’t notice earlier and I think it might involve my brother. I wonder if they are….no they couldn’t be…unless…
“Amy, do you want a drink?” Lily shouts as she raids the fridge for some sodas and adds a dash of Tabasco sauce.

"Mom? Where are you?"
“In the kitchen, honey.” I call back when I hear Laura’s voice. Moments later, Laura joins me in the kitchen with a thoughtful look on her face.
Laura and I have always had a close bond since the moment she was born and I can’t believe how fast she is growing up. Its almost as if I’ve blinked, the last 16 years have gone so quickly. Its only feels like yesterday I was holding her in my arms and humming a lullaby to her. it’s the same with Oliver. They have both grown up too quickly. They don’t need me as much as they use but studying her now, I know that she has something on her mind.
“You want to talk about, sweetie?” I ask, letting her know that I am here if she needs someone but that I am not going to force her to talk to me.

“Amy, do you want a drink?”
I look up from my spot outside that Im staring at. "No thanks!" I call out to her.
I really don't think drinking is wise right now...I'll just wet my pants...but then again my mouth is really dry...
I walk into the kitchen. "Maybe I will actually". I quickly get out a glass and get some water. I only ever drink water. Fizzy drinks aren't natural. And I never ever drink alcohol...I men whats the point? It's just an excuse for people to get hyper and lose control, not remember anything in the morning. Besides its against the law. Even when Mom and Dad offer at Christmas I always say no.
I take a sip of water and look at Lily...she seems...not totally happy. I don't know how else to explain it. "Are you ok Lil?" ask.

I took a deep breath, preparing to tell my mother about the situation. "Ok, I have this friend, who has another friend that likes my friend's brother," I started out, inwardly cringing at how fake that sounded. Obviously my mother was going to know I was talking about myself and one of my friends. "Alright fine," I amended, "Amy likes Oliver, and he's supposed to pick her up tonight because I couldn't." I didn't want to go into why I hadn't wanted to pick her up. "Earlier I wasn't able to, but I have time the time now. The problem is, I think she'd be really disappointed if I showed up rather than him."
I frowned. "You know, that's not even the real problem. I just don't know if they're right for each other. I love Oliver in a sibling way, but I can see him hurting her. And I want to protect my best friend." I fidgeted with my hands, my frown deepening into a pout. Then I looked st my mother. A lot of people would think I it was childish to talk to my mother about everything, but it usually helped.

“Of course you do, honey.” I state as I absorb her words. Amy likes Oliver and Oliver is, well Oliver is Oliver. I am never quite sure what to expect from him but I love him and can’t imagine him hurting anyone purposely. Granted, there may be some ground to Laura’s fears. Siblings often share things that they can never tell their parents.
I understand Laura’s desire to protect her best friend even though I didn’t have anyone I could consider my best friend when I was her age. Her and Amy have been best friends since they were small and the two girls are very much alike. I wouldn’t have thought that Oliver would be Amy’s type but I suppose the saying opposites attract rings truth.
“Have you thought about talking to Oliver?” I suggest. “He might be able to put your mind to rest.”
