"Yeah" I smiled at her. And when she smiled back I felt my heart thud. God she was beautiful.
I drove along the road still thinking about Liz. I thought I should break the silence.
"So Liz, with your new look and therefor new found popularity what do you intend on doing?"

"How about I take you? I know where it is." I heard Max ask from beside me. Aha, so he could speak after all! I smiled.

"that would be nice." Liz said, sending him a smile and then turning to me. "Oh, Thank you Maria, maybe we can talk sometime get to know each other. I'd really like that." she said shyly, but before I could answer Max grabbed her arm and pulled her down the hall in the direction of the library. She sent me a little wave, and then turned to him.

I stared into space at I sat, all alone, in thought. I knew third period, the period I had not attended, was going to end soon, giving me a chance to talk to Michael. I waited until the bell rang a few minutes later and then got up, blending into the crowd. I walked down to Michael's Art class and waited for him to exit the room.

When I saw him, I walked up to him and said, "Hey."

Maria was waiting for me. I really wasn't in the mood.
"Hi" I said answering her hi. Then I just kept walking. If she wanteds to talk shed follow me. Sure enough she did.

I watched in astonishment as he walked off, leaving me staring at his retreating figure. I snapped out of it and raced to catch up with his long strides, panting with the effort.

"Michael Please!" I said somewhat desperately. He wouldn't usually walk away from a fight, so I knew he had to be pretty upset with me to do so now.

I spin on my heels.
"Yes Maria? What do you want now? Do you want me to beg for you? Is that it? God I try everthing and I still Im not good enough for you. I don;t know what else to do."

Was that what he really thought? Of course he was good enough for me! I've never given him the impression that he wasn't... have I?

"No, that's not true! Michael, what are you talking about?" I asked, my voice betraying my hurt. "Am I... am I that bad of a girlfriend?"

Liz:
"well, you know Max...I didn't change my look for everyone else...but I know what you are getting at...Um.. I just want to be myself now...I want to join the track team. Down in Flordia I ran 4 miles a day, and I just tried out for the Schools production of Mambo Fever -- I'm hoping that I get the lead. I guess what I'm getting out of this is Respect...but that totally backfired today..with that guy at lunch." I smiled at him. "So whats changed about you since the last time I saw you?" I asked him.

Alex:

"Isabel?" I called... " Do you want to study at my place before going to the party tonight??" I asked her as I kissed her.

I smiled at her. "Well...to be honest...I haven't really changed. i wish I could say I have...but I haven't. I had no reason to change and no will to. I just played my sports over the summer." I say looking at her. then I turned mu eyes bck to the road. "And that's about it....well....apart from having to deal with a few personal things that wouldn't leave my head."
"Liz, don't worry about the jerk at lunch. Yiu've got loads of peoples respect. Including mine. So have you got our eye on someone at school?"

"Maria! Don't be stupid. You're perfect and the fact is Im not. And Im worried that I'll never be good enough for you. And I don't think it's fair on you to being going out with someone whos not good enough when theres so many people who are." I said miserably.

Liz:

"Yeah..he's really cute...with a nice smile..and has a good reputation...How about you...do you have it for someone...anyone I know?" I asked him teasingly.

"Oh" I say knowing my skin was turning redder by the second. "Yeah there is....but I.....well it's complicated. But I did something and I don't think she's ever going to fully forgive me." I say sadly.
